Oruwariye signed with the Titans on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Oruwariye is headed to Tennessee after racking up 29 tackles (23 solo) and an interception across seven games with the Cowboys during the 2024 season. He can contribute both as a depth defender and on special teams during the upcoming campaign.

The Cowboys placed Oruwariye (foot) on injured reserve Saturday.

Oruwariye was taken to a hospital after suffering a neck injury but was later released after the results of the evaluation and testing were negative. The 27-year-old has already been cleared to return to the team's facility though it's unknown how long he'll spend on the sideline.

Oruwariye will get a new opportunity in New York after struggling to maintain a steady role in Detroit. After topping 75 percent of the defensive snaps in three games as a rookie, Oruwariye played a much bigger role in 2020 and saw 100 percent of the snaps in nine of 16 games. As his playing time increased, so did his production, and the physical second-year pro ultimately finished with the most tackles and pass breakups amongst Lions cornerbacks. Still under contract for cheap through 2022, there's no question Oruwariye will be back as a key cog for the Detroit defense ahead of the 2021 campaign.

The cornerback developed a back issue that led to a limited practice Wednesday, but it's evidently not serious enough to keep him out of the Thanksgiving clash. Expect Oruwariye to again play a prominent role in the Detroit secondary; so far this season, he has registered 29 tackles (25 solo), one interception and six passes defensed in 10 games.

The 24-year is now on track to rejoin the Lions' secondary, where he'll look to carve out a bigger role this season after logging 19 tackles and two picks in nine games with the team in 2019.

While Rashaan Melvin's eventual return to health pushed Oruwariye back into a bit role for the last few weeks of the season, Oruwariye at least put a bow on his rookie season by picking off quarterback Aaron Rodgers on an errant deep pass in Week 17. Now with Melvin set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, Oruwariye seems set up to compete for a starting job in 2020, and that could be an IDP-friendly role if opposing offenses continue to throw away from stud cornerback Darius Slay. After all, Melvin finished top-five among cornerbacks in tackles this year despite missing three games.

Oruwariye missed the last four games with this knee injury, but it appears he'll be ready to go Sunday against the Bears. The Lions' cornerback corps features plenty of experience, so the rookie fifth-round pick will stay in a special-teams role for now.

Oruwariye went to the locker room during Thursday's preseason game against the Browns with an apparent ankle injury, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.

Oruwariye was expected to make the 53-man roster, but if his injury is significant, the Lions may need to add another corner in his place. He'll be considered day-to-day until further notice.
