Lands with Titans
Oruwariye signed with the Titans on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye is headed to Tennessee after racking up 29 tackles (23 solo) and an interception across seven games with the Cowboys during the 2024 season. He can contribute both as a depth defender and on special teams during the upcoming campaign.
Dec 28, 2024
Placed on IR due to foot injury
The Cowboys placed Oruwariye (foot) on injured reserve Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye was already ruled out for Sunday's game against the Eagles due to a foot injury. With the Cowboys eliminated from playoff contention, Oruwariye's placement on IR means he will also be sidelined for the regular-season finale against the Commanders. It's the second time Oruwariye has been placed on IR this season as he missed five games earlier in the year due to a back injury. He'll end the 2024 campaign with 29 tackles (23 solo) and three pass defenses (including one interception) across seven regular-season games.
Dec 27, 2024
Ruled out Sunday
Oruwariye (foot) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Eagles, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye downgraded from limited participation Thursday to a DNP at Friday's practice, so it's no surprise he won't suit up for Sunday's divisional matchup. The Cowboys' defense will now be without two of their top three corners, Oruwariye and Trevon Diggs (knee), in Week 17. C.J. Goodwin and Andrew Booth are likely to see increased work with Dallas' first-team secondary in Oruwariye's stead.
Dec 26, 2024
Limited Thursday
Oruwariye (foot) was a limited participant in practice Thursday, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The cornerback was not listed on Wednesday's injury report. Oruwariye has played on 64 and 99 percent of Dallas' defensive snaps over the last two games with Trevon Diggs out due to season-ending knee surgery. If Oruwariye can't play Sunday against the Eagles, Andrew Booth or C.J. Goodwin might be in line to see more snaps.
Dec 9, 2024
Moves to active roster
Oruwariye (back) was activated from injured reserve Monday.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye's move to the active roster should see him suiting up Monday against the Bengals. The veteran corner will likely serve in a reserve role, assuming he's active, but could see more work if Trevon Diggs (knee) is out.
Dec 4, 2024
Returns to practice
Oruwariye (back) was designated to return from injured reserve Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye has been on IR for the Cowboys' last five games since suffering a back injury against the 49ers in Week 8. The Penn State product will now have a 21-day window to practice with the team before he needs to be placed on the active roster, but if healthy enough, he could return Monday against the Bengals.
Oct 30, 2024
Moves to IR
Oruwariye (back) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye suffered the injury in Sunday's loss to the 49ers and was unable to return to the game. He'll now be sidelined for at least the Cowboys' next four games, while he tends to the injury. With DaRon Bland (foot) expected to return this week, Oruwariye's absence may be lessened, but it'll still be a blow to Dallas' secondary depth.
Oct 27, 2024
Questionable to return
Oruwariye (back) is questionable to return to Sunday night's game against the 49ers, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
The cornerback made eight tackles (six solo) before exiting. Oruwariye came into the game with 12 tackles (11 solo), three passes defensed and an interception in three previous games and on 153 defensive prior defensive snaps this season. Dallas is down to three available corners in Trevon Diggs, Jourdan Lewis and C.J. Goodwin.
Oct 16, 2023
Joins Jaguars' practice squad
Jacksonville signed Oruwariye to its practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
In a corresponding move, outside linebacker Derek Parish was cut from the Jaguars' practice squad. Jacksonville is dealing with multiple injuries in its defensive backfield, so it would not be too surprising to see Oruwariye elevated as soon as Thursday at New Orleans.
Sep 13, 2023
Suffers practice injury
Oruwariye (neck) suffered an injury during practice Wednesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye was taken to a hospital after suffering a neck injury but was later released after the results of the evaluation and testing were negative. The 27-year-old has already been cleared to return to the team's facility though it's unknown how long he'll spend on the sideline.

Finds new home
Oruwariye signed a contract with the Giants on Thursday, Art Stapleton of The Bergen Record reports.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye will get a new opportunity in New York after struggling to maintain a steady role in Detroit. The 27-year-old recorded 44 tackles (36 solo) and three passes defended in 2022, which were both the lowest since his rookie campaign in 2019. He'll likely work to provide depth in the secondary for the Giants.
Feb 2, 2023
Disappointing 2022 campaign
Oruwariye totaled 44 tackles, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery over 14 games in 2022.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye opened the season as a clear starter on the outside, but he became a much smaller part of the cornerback rotation after Detroit's midseason firing of its defensive backs coach. Oruwariye ultimately topped 50 percent of the defensive snaps twice over the final nine games of the year while finishing the year with three-year lows in practically every statistical category. Now entering the free-agent market at the end of the league year, Oruwariye may need to fight for a depth role somewhere other than Detroit in 2023.
Oct 9, 2022
Healthy scratch Sunday
Oruwariye (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye struggled last Sunday against the Seahawks, which may have led to this decision. Although who will step up to start opposite of Jeff Okudah is unclear, Will Harris and Mike Hughes are both likely candidates.
Sep 22, 2022
Logs full practice
Oruwariye (back) was a full participant during Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye was sidelined during Detroit's 36-27 victory over the Commanders with a back injury, but his ability to practice in full Thursday suggests he's moved past the issue. In the team's season opener against Philadelphia, the 6-foot-2 cornerback corralled four tackles and one pass defensed. Expect Oruwariye to reclaim his starting spot at cornerback during Sunday's NFC North clash against the Vikings.
Sep 18, 2022
Out for Week 2
Oruwariye (back) is inactive Sunday against the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye was unable to practice Friday after being limited Thursday with the injury. In his absence, Will Harris and Mike Hughes will be looking at increased opportunity.
Sep 16, 2022
Questionable for Week 2
Oruwariye (back) is questionable for Sunday's contest against the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye landed on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant and didn't practice Friday, but he still has a shot to play in Week 2. If he's unable to suit up, Mike Hughes and Will Harris would be likely candidates for increased snaps versus Washington.
Sep 15, 2022
Limited in practice Thursday
Oruwariye (back) was listed as a limited participant on the Lions' injury report Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye picked up an unspecified back issue after not listed with any injuries on Detroit's practice report Wednesday. The 26-year-old appeared to be working through some lower back tightness as he was spotted stretching during Thursday's sessions, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports. If Oruwairye, who recorded four tackles and one pass defended during his start in Week 1, is ultimately unable to suit up this Sunday, then cornerbacks Mike Hughes, Will Harris and Bobby Price figure to increased usage versus the Commanders.
May 11, 2022
Candidate for contract extension
Oruwariye is a candidate for a contract extension in the near future, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2019 fifth-round draft pick has not missed many games relative to 2020 No. 3 overall pick Jeff Okudah (Achilles). Oruwariye is also coming off a highly productive (57 tackles, 11 PBUs, six interceptions) 2021 campaign as Detroit's No. 1 cornerback despite having played behind one of the least productive defensive fronts in the league. While it could take awhile for both sides to come to an agreement after Denzel Ward reset the cornerback market this offseason, look for the Lions to lock Oruwariye up before long. Meanwhile, it appears the 26-year-old is past his broken thumb considering Oruwariye has reportedly been working out at team headquarters this spring.
Dec 25, 2021
Done for season
Oruwariye (thumb) was placed on IR on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye injured his thumb last Sunday against the Cardinals on the final drive of the game. It was reported Friday that he could need season-ending surgery. Either way, with three weeks left in the season and a minimum three week stay on IR, Oruwariye will be ineligible to return this season. The third-year pro will now set his sights on being ready for the 2022 campaign.
Dec 24, 2021
Could need season-ending surgery
Oruwariye (thumb) won't play Sunday against Atlanta, and he could require season-ending surgery, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Lions coach Dan Campbell, Oruwariye injured the ligament and bone in his thumb on the final drive against the Cardinals last week. While the cornerback is still being evaluated, surgery appears to be a possibility. Oruwariye leads Detroit in defensive snaps this season, so his presence would be a big blow to the team's secondary. Either Will Harris or Ifeatu Melifonwu figures to take Oruwariye's starting role.at left cornerback for Sunday's game and potentially beyond.
Dec 22, 2021
Unable to practice Wednesday
Oruwariye (thumb) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice session.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye recorded his sixth interception of the season during Sunday's win over the Cardinals but is managing a thumb injury ahead of Week 16. He'll likely need to practice in some form if he hopes to play Sunday against Atlanta.
Dec 22, 2021
Sixth interception of season
Oruwariye had five tackles (four solo), two pass deflections and one interception during Sunday's 30-12 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye jumped a Kyler Murray pass intended for A.J. Green in the third quarter and returned it 50 yards to Arizona's six-yard line. On the ensuing play, Jared Goff found Jason Cabinda for a six-yard touchdown. Oruwariye continues to be a ball hawk, totaling 11 pass deflections and six interceptions across 14 appearances this season.
Oct 19, 2021
Picks off third pass
Oruwariye recorded two tackles and one interception in Sunday's 34-11 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye has been a fixture in the Lions' secondary through six games this season. He now has three interceptions on the campaign, each of which have come across his last four contests.
Oct 15, 2021
Cleared of hip injury
Oruwariye (hip) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Bengals, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye progressed throughout the week, upgrading to full practice participation Friday after practicing on a limited basis Thursday and missing practice entirely Wednesday. He looked good enough Friday to shed his injury designation and should start at cornerback against the impressive Bengals receiving corps.
Oct 14, 2021
Limited for Wednesday's practice
Oruwariye (hip) practiced in limited fashion Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye seemingly picked up the hip injury in Sunday's loss to the Vikings and was held out of Wednesday's practice. However, his return to practice bodes well for his availability in Week 6 against Cincinnati. Through five games this season, Oruwariye has logged 20 total tackles, three passes defended and two interceptions.
Oct 13, 2021
Sitting out Wednesday
Oruwariye (hip) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye recorded a season-high nine tackles during Sunday's loss to the Vikings while playing every defensive snap, but he apparently tweaked his hip at some point during the contest. The 25-year-old will likely need to practice in some form Thursday or Friday to have a chance of suiting up this weekend.
Oct 13, 2021
Posts season-high nine tackles
Oruwariye registered nine tackles (six solo) during Sunday's loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye has 19 tackles, two interceptions and two pass deflections across his last three contests. If the 25-year-old can maintain this type of production, he could become a consistent option in IDP leagues.
Oct 6, 2021
Second straight game with pick
Oruwariye totaled six tackles (four solo), one pass deflection and one interception during Sunday's 24-14 loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye has picked off a pass in back-to-back games and has matched his rookie season total in just four games. Despite his playmaking ability and his constant presence on the field, the 25-year-old's fantasy upside is limited due to his lack of tackles.
Sep 29, 2021
Records pick against Ravens
Oruwariye recorded four tackles and an interception in Sunday's Week 3 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye has not left the field with the Lions on defense this season and has been a key in its secondary. His interception of Lamar Jackson was his first pick of the season and fourth of his career. Despite his constant presence on the field, Oruwariye has managed only five tackles across three games to this point in the campaign.
Aug 31, 2021
No action in preseason finale
Oruwariye did not play in Detroit's preseason finale against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
After securing the starting spot at cornerback opposite Jeff Okudah, Oruwariye was rested for the final exhibition game as Detroit evaluated its depth options.
Jul 29, 2021
Opens training camp with starters
"Nobody is really pushing" Oruwariye for first-team reps at outside cornerback, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While Oruwariye was an every-down player for Detroit in 10 of 16 games last season, this news is notable given Detroit's offseason addition of cornerback Quinton Dunbar. While there is plenty of time for the tide to change before the end of training camp, Oruwariye seems poised to continue on as a key cog in the Lions' secondary this fall.
Jan 15, 2021
Makes second-year leap
Oruwariye recorded 53 tackles, seven pass breakups and one interception over 16 games in 2020.
ANALYSIS
After topping 75 percent of the defensive snaps in three games as a rookie, Oruwariye played a much bigger role in 2020 and saw 100 percent of the snaps in nine of 16 games. As his playing time increased, so did his production, and the physical second-year pro ultimately finished with the most tackles and pass breakups amongst Lions cornerbacks. Still under contract for cheap through 2022, there's no question Oruwariye will be back as a key cog for the Detroit defense ahead of the 2021 campaign.
Nov 26, 2020
Good to go Thursday
Oruwariye (back) is not among the Lions' inactive players for Thursday's contest versus Houston.
ANALYSIS
The cornerback developed a back issue that led to a limited practice Wednesday, but it's evidently not serious enough to keep him out of the Thanksgiving clash. Expect Oruwariye to again play a prominent role in the Detroit secondary; so far this season, he has registered 29 tackles (25 solo), one interception and six passes defensed in 10 games.
Aug 9, 2020
Activated by Detroit
Oruwariye has been activated from the Lions' reserve/COVID-19 list.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year is now on track to rejoin the Lions' secondary, where he'll look to carve out a bigger role this season after logging 19 tackles and two picks in nine games with the team in 2019.
Aug 1, 2020
Placed on reserve/COVID-19 list
Oruwariye was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The designation means Oruwariye either tested positive for COVID-19 or was in contact with someone who tested positive. The depth cornerback played only nine games in his rookie season, but did record two interceptions throughout the final seven weeks of the 2019 regular season.
Jan 10, 2020
Strong finish to rookie season
Oruwariye recorded 19 tackles, three pass breakups and two interceptions over nine games in 2019.
ANALYSIS
Drafted in the fifth round out of Penn State, Oruwariye didn't see a single snap on defense until Week 11. However, when first forced into an expanded role Week 12, the rookie didn't waste much time in recording his first career interception off of Redskins QB Dwayne Haskins. While Rashaan Melvin's eventual return to health pushed Oruwariye back into a bit role for the last few weeks of the season, Oruwariye at least put a bow on his rookie season by picking off quarterback Aaron Rodgers on an errant deep pass in Week 17. Now with Melvin set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, Oruwariye seems set up to compete for a starting job in 2020, and that could be an IDP-friendly role if opposing offenses continue to throw away from stud cornerback Darius Slay. After all, Melvin finished top-five among cornerbacks in tackles this year despite missing three games.
Nov 6, 2019
Ditches injury
Oruwariye (knee) practiced at full speed Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye missed the last four games with this knee injury, but it appears he'll be ready to go Sunday against the Bears. The Lions' cornerback corps features plenty of experience, so the rookie fifth-round pick will stay in a special-teams role for now.
Nov 3, 2019
Unable to play Sunday
Oruwariye (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye will sit out his fourth straight game and the seventh of the season, as he's been plagued by this knee injury. Once he's healthy, he could remain scratched from the lineup, and he tops out as a special-teams asset.
Nov 1, 2019
Officially questionable
Oruwariye (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye was limited at practice all week, and is looking like a true game-time decision. Primarily a special teams contributor and depth corner, a potential absence does not figure to have an impact on the Lions' defense. Final word on the rookie's status will come closer to kickoff.
Oct 25, 2019
Out against Giants
Oruwariye (knee) is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye, a rookie fifth-round pick, will sit out for the sixth time in seven games. Once he's ready to go, Oruwariye is expected to contribute strictly on special teams.
Oct 18, 2019
Out again
Oruwariye (knee) has been ruled out for the Lions' Week 7 game against Vikings.
ANALYSIS
The absence will mark Oruwariye's second straight due to a knee injury. He was again a non-participant at practice and remains week-to-week going forward. The depth corner's absence does not figure to have an impact on the Lions' defense.
Oct 12, 2019
Ruled out
Oruwariye (knee) was ruled out ahead of Monday's contest against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye failed to practice all week, so this designation shouldn't come as much of a surprise. The rookie cornerback has mainly been a special teams factor throughout the first five games of the 2019 campaign.
Sep 4, 2019
Loses injury tag
Oruwariye (ankle) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
The rookie out of Penn State left the preseason finale with an ankle injury and didn't return. It was a quick recovery, though, and Oruwariye will be good to go Sunday versus the Cardinals. He and Justin Coleman could both see an increased role in the defense if Rashaan Melvin (ankle) can't play.
Aug 29, 2019
Suffers potential ankle injury
Oruwariye went to the locker room during Thursday's preseason game against the Browns with an apparent ankle injury, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Oruwariye was expected to make the 53-man roster, but if his injury is significant, the Lions may need to add another corner in his place. He'll be considered day-to-day until further notice.
