Three touches in blowout loss
Abdullah had one carry for four yards and two receptions for five yards on two targets in Sunday's 39-16 loss at Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played a season-high 17 snaps on offense as he got playing time late amid a blowout loss. Abdullah looks clearly ahead of Tyler Goodson and DJ Giddens in the backup running back role, though that order may change if starter Jonathan Taylor were to get hurt.
Nov 24, 2025
Plans just four snaps on offense
Abdullah did not have a carry and failed to bring in a catch on his only target in Sunday's loss at Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played just four snaps on offense as Indy used Jonathan Taylor on 46 of the offense's 51 snaps despite giving him just 16 rushing attempts. Abdullah looks ahead of Tyler Goodson and DJ Giddens in the backup role, though that order may change if Taylor is injured.
Nov 11, 2025
One grab in win
Abdullah caught his lone target for eight yards in Sunday's 31-25 win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah failed to record a single carry Sunday, as the veteran running back played just five of the Colts' 77 offensive snaps against the Falcons. The 32-year-old was was not needed much in the game as starter Jonathan Taylor ran all over the Falcons on his way to 244 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. With Taylor dominating the backfield for the Colts, Abdullah should not be trusted for fantasy purposes. He'll continue to operate as a depth option when Indianapolis comes out of their Week 11 bye to face off against the Chiefs in Week 12.
Nov 3, 2025
Minimal role in loss
Abdullah had one carry for three yards and one reception for two yards on his only target in Sunday's loss at Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played five snaps on offense while Tyler Goodson played a season-high 10 snaps with the Colts trailing most of the game (as Goodson is usually seen as the better receiver). However, the Colts didn't turn to a pass-catching running back as they have in the past as Jonathan Taylor stayed in the game and played on 62 of the offense's 79 snaps. As long as Taylor is healthy, it looks the other running backs will have very minor roles even if the Colts are forced throw the ball.
Oct 27, 2025
Three touches in blowout win
Abdullah had two carries for five yards and one reception for three yards on his lone target in Sunday's 38-14 win over Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Tyler Goodson returned after missing three games due to a groin injury. Abdullah may be the No. 2 running back even with Goodson healthy as he played on ten snaps compared to four for Goodson. Both had two carries. Meanwhile, DJ Giddens was a healthy inactive. However, none of the backups are getting enough work for viable fantasy value as Jonathan Taylor gets almost every touch even in blowouts as Sunday's win was essentially wrapped up before the fourth quarter.
Oct 22, 2025
Three touches against Chargers
Abdullah rushed twice for 19 yards and caught his lone target for eight yards in Sunday's 38-24 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played just five of the Colts' 60 offensive snaps Sunday behind starter Jonathan Taylor (52) and ahead of rookie DJ Giddens (3). The veteran running back offers little fantasy value outside of an injury to Taylor, yet it's unclear if Abdullah's role would drastically increase as a 32-year-old in one of the league's most explosive offenses. With that said, Abdullah remains far off the fantasy radar heading into a Week 8 matchup against the Titans.
Oct 18, 2025
Elevated again
The Colts signed Adbullah to the active roster Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Tyler Goodson (groin) has been ruled out, leaving the Colts in need of running back depth behind Jonathan Taylor and DJ Giddens. Abdullah was active in Weeks 5 and 6, logging a total of three carries for 13 yards and a touchdown, and he'll now have a permanent spot on the roster.
Oct 13, 2025
Lands back on practice squad
Adbullah reverted to Indianapolis' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Adullah was elevated for the second straight week for this past Sunday's win over Arizona and logged three snaps on offense, rushing once for seven yards and catching his lone target for nine yards. He also played 10 snaps on special teams. Though Abdullah is back on the Colts' practice squad for now, he could be elevated again in Week 7 versus the Chargers if Tyler Goodson (groin) remains sidelined.
Oct 11, 2025
Elevated from practice squad
The Colts elevated Abdullah from the practice squad Saturday ahead of Sunday's matchup versus the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah will serve as the team's No. 3 running back for the second straight week as Tyler Goodson remains sidelined due to a groin injury. Abdullah carried the ball two times for six yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 win over the Raiders while playing on both offense and special teams. The team will be able to elevate the 32-year-old just one more time following Sunday's matchup.
Oct 6, 2025
Back to practice squad
Abdullah reverted to the Colts' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah churned out six yards and a touchdown on two carries in Sunday's 40-6 victory over the Raiders, while playing five snaps on offense in the contest. Additionally, the running back logged 10 snaps on special teams, recording a tackle in kick coverage. With Tyler Goodson (groin) still banged up, it's possible that Abdullah will be elevated to the active roster again ahead of the team's Week 6 matchup with the Cardinals.
Oct 6, 2025
Rushing TD late in blowout win
Abdullah had two carries for six yards, including a two-yard rushing touchdown, in Sunday's 40-6 win over Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah was just called up from the practice squad ahead of the game. He only got carries late in the game amid a blowout win. DJ Giddens remains the clear backup to Jonathan Taylor while Tyler Goodson (groin) is sidelined. Abdullah will likely have most of his usage on special teams if he's active on game days.
Oct 4, 2025
Up from practice squad for Week 5
The Colts have elevated Abdullah from their practice squad ahead of Sunday's game against the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
With fellow RB Tyler Goodson (groin) having been ruled out for the contest, Abdullah will provide depth and experience Sunday to an Indianapolis backfield that's led by Jonathan Taylor and also includes DJ Giddens. As long as Taylor remains healthy, however, there won't be much volume for his backups.
Sep 8, 2025
Gets opportunity with Indy
The Colts signed Abdullah to the practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah reached an injury settlement with the 49ers in mid-August after reverting to the team's IR due to a rib injury. He appears to have fully recovered from the injury and will head to Indianapolis, where he'll be available for an elevation to the active roster should the Colts require backfield depth on game day. Abdullah appeared in 16 regular-season games for the Raiders in 2024 and posted 66 carries for 311 yards and two touchdowns while adding 40 catches (on 47 targets) for 261 yards and three scores. Khalil Herbert was cut from the Colts' practice squad in a corresponding move.
Aug 19, 2025
Cut from injured reserve
The 49ers released Abdullah (ribs) from injured reserve with an injury settlement Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah was injured during the 49ers' preseason opener back on Aug. 9 and was placed on IR two days later. He's now free to look for work elsewhere.
Aug 11, 2025
Lands on IR with rib injury
The 49ers placed Abdullah (ribs) on the injured reserve list Monday.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah joined the 49ers in late July due to multiple injuries to the team's backfield, but the 2015 second-rounder suffered a rib injury of his own during San Francisco's 30-9 preseason loss to Denver on Saturday. By being placed on IR, Abdullah will be forced to miss the entire 2025 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the 49ers. Jeff Wilson was signed by the 49ers to a one-year contract in a corresponding move.
Aug 9, 2025
Doesn't return Saturday
Abdullah was forced out of Saturday's 30-9 preseason loss to the Broncos due to a ribs injury.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah was initially listed as questionable to return but never retook the field, though given that Saturday's affair was only a preseason clash, the 49ers may have simply taken a cautious approach. The 32-year-old veteran inked with San Francisco late July, and his next opportunity to take the field this preseason will come Saturday, Aug. 16 versus the Raiders.
Jul 31, 2025
Signs with San Francisco
The 49ers signed Abdullah to a one-year contract Thursday, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah had a tryout with the Niners on Wednesday and things evidently went well for the veteran running back. He turned 32 years old last month and appeared in 16 regular-season games for the Raiders last season, logging a 66-311-2 rushing line in addition to 40-261-3 receiving on 47 targets. Abdullah will look to win a job behind Christian McCaffrey, Isaac Guerendo and rookie Jordan James this summer.
Jul 30, 2025
Tries out with 49ers
Abdullah (foot) tried out with the 49ers on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah has seemingly recovered from the foot injury he suffered last December and is now trying to catch on with a new team. The 32-year-old spent the 2024 season with the Raiders where he carried the ball 66 times for 311 yards and two touchdowns in addition to hauling in 40 passes for 261 yards and three touchdowns across 16 games played.
Jan 3, 2025
Won't play Sunday
Abdullah (foot) has been ruled out for Sunday's season finale against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Per Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com, head coach Antonio Pierce initially indicated that Abdullah would be listed as doubtful for the contest. However, it has been confirmed that the running back, who is coming off a strong effort in Week 17, will sit out the Raiders' final game of the 2024 season. In his absence, Alexander Mattison is in line to lead the team's Week 18 backfield, with Chris Collier also mixing in, per Vic Tafur of The Athletic and Dylan Laube potentially seeing some work in passing situations.
Jan 3, 2025
Doubtful for Week 18
Coach Antonio Pierce said Friday that Abdullah (foot) will be listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of a standout 20-carry, 115-yard effort this past Sunday at New Orleans that also included three catches (on four targets) for 32 yards, Abdullah has been tending to a foot injury that didn't allow him to practice this week. He thus appears in line to miss his first game of the campaign, which would allow the combination of Alexander Mattison, Chris Collier and perhaps even Dylan Laube to man the Raiders backfield Sunday.
Jan 2, 2025
Misses practice again
Abdullah (foot) remained sidelined at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah is coming off a career-high 115-yard rushing effort in Week 17, but back-to-back missed practices cloud his status for Sunday's season finale against the Chargers. If Abdullah is limited or out this weekend, Alexander Mattison and Chris Collier would likely be next up for the Raiders' Week 18 carries, with Dylan Laube a candidate to mix in.
Jan 1, 2025
Doesn't practice Wednesday
Abdullah (foot) didn't practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah logged 20 carries for a career-high 115 yards and caught three of his four targets for 32 yards in this past Sunday's 25-10 win over the Saints. However, the running back emerged from Week 17 action with a foot issue and Abdullah's status will need to be monitored ahead of this Sunday's season finale against the Chargers. If Abdullah is limited or out this weekend, added snaps would be available for Alexander Mattison, Chris Collier and Dylan Laube.
Dec 31, 2024
Injures foot late in Week 17
Abdullah emerged from Sunday's 25-10 win over the Saints with a foot injury, Luke Straub of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah handled a season-high 23 touches and accounted for 147 yards and led Raiders running backs with a 62 percent snap share in the win, but he didn't take a handoff or draw a target after the first play of the fourth quarter. Though the Raiders listed Abdullah as questionable to return due to the foot injury at one point later in the quarter, he ultimately never checked back into the contest while Chris Collier served as the primary back on Las Vegas' last drive. Abdullah's status thus warrants monitoring heading into this Sunday's game against the Chargers, but given how well he fared against the Saints, the 31-year-old would likely be in store for the lead role out of the backfield if the foot issue doesn't inhibit him too much in practice this week.
Dec 29, 2024
Tops 100 rushing yards Sunday
Abdullah carried the ball 20 times for 115 yards and caught three of four targets for 32 yards in Sunday's 25-10 win over the Saints,
ANALYSIS
It's the first time in his career that the 31-year-old running back has produced triple-digit rushing yards in a game. Abdullah saw 23 touches to Alexander Mattison's 11, but it's not clear if coach Antonio Pierce was simply riding the hot hand, or if Abdullah has moved to the top of the depth chart for the Raiders. Whoever sees the bulk of the backfield work in Week 18 will face a much stingier Chargers defense.
Dec 23, 2024
Totals 12 touches
Abdullah rushed the ball seven times for 38 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 19-14 win over the Jaguars. He added five receptions on six targets for 47 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah benefitted from the absence of Sincere McCormick (ankle) but still saw four fewer touches than Alexander Mattison. As would be expected, the majority of Abdullah's production came as a receiver, and he finished second on the team in both receptions and yards. However, his biggest fantasy impact came on a seven-yard rushing score early in the fourth quarter. While his involvement in the offense is likely to lean heavily toward his work as a receiver, Abdullah should maintain a complementary role at minimum in Week 17 against the Saints.
Dec 17, 2024
Plays large receiving role Monday
Abdullah took three carries for eight yards while hauling in all seven of his targets for 58 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 15-9 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Starter Sincere McCormick (ankle) was injured in the second quarter before being ruled out at halftime, opening extra playing time for the Raiders' backup RBs. Abdullah took full advantage of the opportunity and cashed in a late touchdown reception while Alexander Mattison (7-24-0) handled the early-down work in the second half. Despite the disparity in production Monday, Mattison figures to handle starting duties should McCormick be ruled out for a Week 16 tilt against the Jaguars. Abdullah would likely get worked in as a receiving option like we saw against the Falcons in the aforementioned scenario.
Dec 10, 2024
Two touches in Sunday's loss
Abdullah caught one of two targets for a loss of three yards and rushed once for one yard in Sunday's 28-13 loss to the Buccaneers. He also returned two punts for 30 yards and two kickoffs for 59 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah earned just two touches despite playing 39 percent of the Raiders' offensive snaps, ceding much of the backfield work to Sincere McCormick as the undrafted 24-year-old took 15 carries for 78 yards to go along with a pair of receptions for another 11 yards. Abdullah figures to take a backseat to McCormick again in Week 15 when Las Vegas hosts the Falcons on Monday Night Football. Additionally, Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quadriceps) could return to the backfield rotation as well.
Nov 29, 2024
Tallies 151 all-purpose yards
Abdullah rushed 10 times for 39 yards, secured both targets for 14 yards, returned one kickoff for 68 yards and ran back two punts for 30 yards in the Raiders' 19-17 loss to the Chiefs on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran back was busy all afternoon with both Zamir White (quadriceps) and Alexander Mattison (ankle) inactive, and he supplemented his work on offense with a productive effort on special teams. Abdullah's 68-yard kickoff return late in the third quarter set the Raiders up on the Chiefs' 26-yard line for a drive that culminated in a Brock Bowers touchdown grab two plays later. Abdullah finished with two fewer carries and 25 less rushing yards than backfield mate Sincere McCormick, but he offered serviceable fantasy production overall. However, Abdullah could be back to his customary third-down role in short order, considering both White and Mattison seemingly have a good chance of being available for a Week 14 road matchup against the Buccaneers on Sunday, Dec. 8.
Nov 29, 2024
In line for added work Friday
With Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quadriceps) both inactive, Abdullah is in line to see added work Friday against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
In this past Sunday's 29-19 loss to the Broncos -- a game that Mattison and White also missed -- Abdullah (who started the contest) carried the ball eight times for 28 yards and caught five of six targets for 37 yards and a touchdown. Look for the veteran back to continue to see added touches Friday, with Sincere McCormick (who logged five carries for 33 yards versus Denver) also mixing in.
Nov 24, 2024
Finds end zone in loss
Abdullah carried the ball eight times for 28 yards and caught five of six targets for 37 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 29-19 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
With Alexander Mattison (ankle), and Zamir White (quadriceps) unavailable, Abdullah led the Raiders' backfield in touches and scrimmage yards while scoring the team's only offensive TD of the day on a six-yard connection with Gardner Minshew (collarbone) in the second quarter. The five catches and six targets were also season highs for Abdullah. It's not yet clear if either Mattison or White will be ready to return in Week 13, but even if Abdullah handles the lead role again, he'll have a tough matchup against Kansas City.
Nov 24, 2024
Slated to see expanded role Sunday
With Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quadricep) inactive, Abdullah is in line for an expanded workload Sunday against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
In the absence of both Mattison and White, Abdullah is in line to start Sunday, per Tashan Reed of The Athletic, with Dylan Laube and practice-squad elevation Sincere McCormick also available to mix in. While Abdullah is a speculative lineup option versus Denver, he could provide short-term fantasy utility for those who would normally rely on either Mattison or White or are otherwise in need of backfield help with six teams on bye in Week 12.
Nov 22, 2024
Set for more touches Week 12
Abdullah is in line to lead the Vegas backfield Sunday against the Broncos, as Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports that both Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quad) will be listed as doubtful.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah has spent most of the season in a chance-of-pace role, playing primarily on passing downs. He scored a receiving touchdown after both Mattison and White got hurt in the Week 11 loss to Miami. Dylan Laube is likely in line for an increased role as well, and Sincere McCormick could be elevated from the practice squad for Sunday's game.
Nov 18, 2024
Catches touchdown pass in loss
Abdullah caught all three of his targets for 16 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-19 loss to the Dolphins. He also rushed once for one yard.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah caught a 10-yard swing pass out of the backfield with less than five minutes remaining in the contest for his second touchdown of the season. The 31-year-old ultimately logged a 34-percent offensive snap share with fellow running backs Zamir White (quad) and Alexander Mattison (ankle) exiting the game early due to their respective injuries. If at least one of White or Mattison are forced to miss the Raiders' Week 12 matchup against the Broncos, Abdullah could see a similarly increased role, though sixth-round rookie Dylan Laube may factor into the mix at that point as well.
Nov 5, 2024
Paces LV backfield in snaps Sunday
Abdullah rushed four times for 12 yards and he caught all three of his targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 41-24 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah was dealt at least seven touches for the third time in five games as the Raiders trailed throughout the entire second half Sunday. Abdullah's 30 offensive snaps actually paced his position group ahead of fellow running backs Alexander Mattison and Zamir White, each of whom continue to struggle with inefficiency. Through his first nine contests of the 2024 campaign, Abdullah has taken 16 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown to go along with a 14-60-0 receiving line on 17 targets.
Oct 23, 2024
No touches in Week 8
Abdullah didn't carry the ball or draw a target while playing 13 of 79 snaps on offense in Sunday's 20-15 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
After filling a change-of-pace role out of the backfield behind Alexander Mattison the previous two weeks, Abdullah saw his playing time take a significant dip Week 7 while Zamir White (groin) made his return from a two-game absence. Expect Abdullah's opportunities on offense to remain limited while both Mattison and White are healthy.
Oct 14, 2024
Loses key fumble
Abdullah rushed the ball four times for 24 yards in Sunday's 32-13 loss to the Steelers. He added three receptions on five targets for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah had moments of productivity as the change-of-pace back behind Alexander Mattison, but that was overshadowed by a key mistake early in the fourth quarter. With the Raiders one yard away from cutting Pittsburgh's lead to one possession, Abdullah lost a fumble at the hands of T.J. Watt. He didn't record an offensive stat thereafter, and he compounded his problems by muffing a punt just one possession later.
Oct 8, 2024
Finds end zone Sunday
Abdullah rushed five times for 42 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-18 loss to the Broncos. He also caught all three of his targets for nine yards and he returned one kickoff for 23 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah logged a season-high 31 offensive snaps behind Alexander Mattison with fellow running back Zamir White (groin) sidelined for Sunday's tilt, and Abdullah took advantage as he translated the additional playing time into eight touches for 51 yards and a score, finding the end zone on a three-yard rush late in the fourth quarter. Earlier in the contest, Abdullah notched the Raiders' second-longest play of the game when he took a carry 40 yards to begin a drive. The 31-year-old could return to more of a reserve role offensively if the aforementioned White manages to suit up against the Steelers in Week 6.
Sep 29, 2024
Will play
Abdullah (back) is active Sunday against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah was listed as questionable throughout the week but will ultimately take the field for the Week 4 matchup. The veteran should continue seeing snaps in the Raiders' backfield behind Zamir White and Alexander Mattison, while also chipping in on special teams.
Sep 27, 2024
Questionable for Week 4
Abdullah (back) is questionable for Sunday's game versus Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
The 30-year-old has played 30 offensive snaps and another 48 on special teams through three weeks. The Raiders have been using all three of Zamir White, Alexander Mattison and Abdullah out of the backfield in a true three-man committee approach. If Abdullah can't play, it could open more pass-game work for Mattison, as White has mainly been limited to early downs.
Sep 10, 2024
Special teams role in season opener
Abdullah played 14 snaps on special teams in Sunday's 22-10 loss to the Chargers, returning one kickoff for 28 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah was not involved in the Raiders' offensive game plan during the season opener, while fellow running backs Zamir White and Alexander Mattison combined for 108 total yards and a receiving score on 24 touches. Mattison alone was targeted six times by quarterback Gardner Minshew, and Abdullah figures to cede passing down work to Mattison again Week 2 versus the Ravens.
Aug 16, 2024
Competing for third-down role
Abdullah is competing with rookie sixth-round pick Dylan Laube for a third-down role behind starting running back Zamir White, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah has handled a key special-teams role across two seasons with the Raiders, which he figures to reprise in 2024, but he could also contribute more on offense if he's able to secure regular pass-catching snaps. White and backup Alexander Mattison figure to dominate carries for Las Vegas, but one of Abdullah or Laube could emerge as a somewhat reliable target earner this season. Last year, Abdullah secured 19of 24 targets for 131 yards in 17 regular-season games.
Mar 8, 2024
Staying in Las Vegas
The Raiders re-signed Abdullah on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah has spent the last two seasons with the Raiders after coming to Las Vegas in 2022, and he'll now remain with the team for the immediate future. The 2015 second-round pick has appeared in all 34 of the Raiders' games since signing with the team, recording 451 yards from scrimmage on 63 touches. The veteran running back is expected to serve as a depth piece in Las Vegas' backfield once again in 2024.
Jan 16, 2024
Just two touches per game in 2023
Abdullah ended his 2023 campaign with 15 total carries for 89 yards to go along with 19 receptions for 131 yards on 24 targets in 17 games.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah recorded more than four touches in a single contest just once throughout his second season with the Raiders, while 2022 fourth-round pick Zamir White took control of the backfield when workhorse Josh Jacobs missed Weeks 15-18 with a quadriceps injury. Abdullah will turn 31 years old in June, and the veteran's future in Las Vegas is uncertain as he's set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Jan 2, 2024
Just two touches Sunday
Abdullah rushed once for four yards and caught his only target for 18 yards in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah logged a season-high 30 offensive snaps with Josh Jacobs (quadriceps) sidelined for a third straight contest, but fill-in starter Zamir White earned 25 touches out of the backfield Sunday, notching 106 total yards in the process. The team figures to continue leaning on White in Week 18 against the Broncos if Jacobs remains out, capping Abdullah's projection.
Dec 26, 2023
Two carries against Chiefs
Abdullah rushed twice for 11 yards and caught his only target for one yard in Monday's 20-14 win over the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah maintained a limited role out of the Raiders' backfield against the Chiefs in Week 16, despite Josh Jacobs' (quadriceps/illness) absence from the Christmas Day contest. Fellow running back Zamir White handled the bulk of the rushing work, taking 22 carries for 145 yards while Abdullah earned only three touches across 12 offensive snaps. Abdullah could see even fewer opportunities Week 17 versus the Colts if Jacobs returns to action.
Dec 15, 2023
Eight touches in massive win
Abdullah rushed six times for 32 yards and caught both of his targets for 13 yards in Thursday's 63-21 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah tripled his previous season high in carries with six rushes while Josh Jacobs (quadriceps) was sidelined Thursday, but Zamir White logged 45 offensive snaps compared to Abdullah's 17. Nonetheless, Abdullah figures to continue providing relief on passing downs even if Jacobs is able to return Week 16 against the Chiefs.
Dec 11, 2023
Pair of catches in loss
Abdullah rushed once for 12 yards and caught both his targets for seven yards in Sunday's 3-0 loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah's first two touches didn't come until less than a minute remaining in the first half, though he's now up to 14 receptions through the first 13 games of the season. Starting running back Josh Jacobs exited Sunday's contest in the fourth quarter due to a seemingly minor knee injury, but Abdullah could see his snap share increase Thursday against the Chargers if Jacobs is limited or unable to play on a quick turnaround. Fellow reserves Zamir White and Brandon Bolden could factor into the backfield equation as well.
Nov 27, 2023
Two touches against Kansas City
Abdullah rushed once for 11 yards and caught his only target for two yards in Sunday's 31-17 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah's 11-yard carry came on the final play of the first half, but he was held without a single touch throughout the second half while starter Josh Jacobs handled a bulk of the work out of the Raiders' backfield. Abdullah has six receptions over the team's last five games, though he's yet to find the end zone this season.
Nov 20, 2023
Makes one grab in loss
Abdullah caught his only target for four yards in Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah's 23-percent offensive snap share marked a season high as the Raiders trailed throughout the entirety of the second half in Miami, but the 30-year-old running back was dealt just one touch behind starter Josh Jacobs. Abdullah could see a similar level of involvement, especially on passing downs, against the Chiefs in Week 12.
Nov 13, 2023
One reception in SNF victory
Abdullah caught his only target for four yards in Sunday's 16-12 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah earned just one touch across his 10 offensive snaps on Sunday Night Football, while starter Josh Jacobs retained a workhorse role with 27 carries for 116 yards to go along with two catches on as many targets for 11 yards. Expect a similarly light backfield split for Abdullah against the Dolphins in Week 11.
Nov 6, 2023
Four touches Sunday
Abdullah rushed twice for eight yards and caught both of his targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 30-6 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played just eight offensive snaps in the blowout victory, but he managed to earn more than two touches in a single contest for the first time this season. Nonetheless, starter Josh Jacobs continues to dominate opportunities out of the Raiders' backfield, and that figures to continue against the Jets in Week 10.
Nov 1, 2023
Minimal involvement in loss
Abdullah rushed once for seven yards and caught his only target for 12 yards in Monday's 26-14 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
After failing to earn a single touch over the past two contests, Abdullah handled two touches during Monday's contest. Through eight weeks of season, the veteran running back has seen no more than two touches in a contest and has been held without a touch in three games. Barring an injury to starter Josh Jacobs, Abdullah should remain far off the fantasy radar going forward. Nonetheless, the 30-year-old will continue to operate as the Raiders' top backup option when the Raiders host the Giants in Week 9.
Oct 10, 2023
Two touches on MNF
Abdullah rushed once for four yards and caught his only target for 11 yards in Monday's 17-13 win over the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah continues to play ahead of fellow reserve Zamir White, but the former has yet to earn more than two touches in a game through the first five weeks of the season. Nonetheless, Abdullah remains capable of providing relief to starter Josh Jacobs in certain down and distance situations ahead of a Week 6 tilt against the Patriots.
Oct 2, 2023
Pair of receptions in loss
Abdullah caught both of his targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah's two receptions didn't come until the fourth quarter when the Raiders were trailing by multiple scores, and starter Josh Jacobs remained busy as a receiver in his own right with eight catches for 81 yards on 11 targets. It's safe to expect a similarly limited role for Abdullah against the Packers in Week 5.
Sep 25, 2023
Two catches Sunday
Abdullah caught two passes for 16 yards on three targets in Sunday's 23-18 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played just 12 of a possible 72 offensive snaps despite the Raiders finding themselves in catch-up mode for the entirety of the second half, while workhorse Josh Jacobs ultimately handled 17 carries to go along with three receptions on five targets out of the team's backfield. Abdullah has earned three targets in back-to-back contests, but Jacobs' significant usage figures to continue against the Chargers in Week 4.
Sep 18, 2023
Targeted three times in loss
Abdullah caught one pass for five yards on three targets in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah logged only six offensive snaps despite a trailing game script, while starter Josh Jacobs played a much larger role in the passing game as he earned six targets to ultimately produce five receptions for 51 yards. Zamir White remains the primary backup to Jacobs on the ground, severely limiting Abdullah's path to fantasy relevance against the Steelers in Week 3.
Sep 11, 2023
Targeted once Sunday
Abdullah was targeted once in Sunday's 17-16 win over the Broncos, but he finished the contest without a single touch.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah logged only seven offensive snaps while the Raiders unsurprisingly leaned on starter Josh Jacobs as the workhorse out of the backfield. Abdullah figures to continue providing relief on passing downs against the Bills in Week 2.
Mar 9, 2023
Returns to Vegas on one-year deal
The Raiders re-signed Abdullah to a one-year contract Thursday, KPRC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah appeared in all 17 games for the Raiders last season as a lightly-used change-of-pace back and pass-catching specialist behind Josh Jacobs. He averaged just 10.3 offensive snaps per game and rushed four times for 20 yards, adding 25 catches for 211 yards and one touchdown. Abdullah will try and fill the same role again in 2023.
Jan 16, 2023
Catches 25 passes in 2022 season
Abdullah ended his 2022 campaign with just four total carries for 20 yards in 17 games, though he added 25 receptions for 211 yards and a touchdown on 32 targets.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah never carved out more than a pass-down role while starter Josh Jacobs retained workhorse status out of the Raiders' backfield all season, but both players now head into unrestricted free agency in 2023. Abdullah also handled a fair share of special teams reps this season, returning 26 kickoffs for 543 yards.
Jan 2, 2023
Single-digit offensive snap count
Abdullah did not record an offensive touch in nine snaps during Sunday's 37-34 overtime loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah failed to draw a target in the passing game for the first time since Week 5, and it was fellow reserve running back Brandon Bolden that filled in for starter Josh Jacobs on the ground when the latter briefly exited with a minor hip injury. Abdullah figures to remain involved sparingly on passing downs, but barring any setbacks, Jacobs is slated to retain his workhorse role against the Chiefs in Week 18.
Dec 27, 2022
Catches two passes in loss
Abdullah caught both of his targets for 27 yards in Saturday's 13-10 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah failed to see a single rush in the contest while Josh Jacobs handled 16 total touches. The 29-year-old played just 10 of the Raiders' 53 offensive snaps in the contest as Jacobs continues to operate as a workhorse back. Barring an injury, Abdullah should remain off the fantasy radar heading into a Week 17 matchup with the 49ers.
Dec 20, 2022
Racks up 111 kickoff return yards
Abdullah caught both of his targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 30-24 win over the Patriots. He also returned five kickoffs for 111 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah's offensive role remained limited to passing situations as workhorse Josh Jacobs handled 24 touches for 110 total yards Sunday. Abdullah has seen four targets over the Raiders' last two games ahead of a Week 16 tilt in Pittsburgh.
Dec 12, 2022
Targeted twice in loss
Abdullah caught both of his targets for 17 yards in Thursday's 17-16 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played less than 10 offensive snaps for the first time since Week 7, as the Raiders led for much of the contest until the pivotal final moments. Starter Josh Jacobs (finger) once again enjoyed a workhorse role with 29 touches for 114 yards and a touchdown, continuing to dominate the lion's share of opportunities out of the Raiders' backfield. Nonetheless, Abdullah figures to factor in on passing downs against the Patriots in Week 15.
Dec 7, 2022
Ready for TNF
Abdullah (hamstring) doesn't have an injury designation for Thursday's game against the Rams, Anthony Galaviz of The Fresno Bee reports.
ANALYSIS
Josh Jacobs (calf) is listed as questionable, just as he was a few days ago before running for 144 yards against the Chargers. Abdullah will continue seeing most of his playing time in passing situations, with rookie Zamir White more likely to serve as the lead runner if Jacobs ends up missing this one.
Dec 6, 2022
Logs limited estimate
The Raiders listed Abdullah (hamstring) as limited on Tuesday's practice estimate, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah's limted estimate was his second straight in as many days, as the Raiders prep for a matchup with the Rams on Thursday. His status will be worth monitoring following the release of Wednesday's injury report. The veteran running back recorded one carry for four yards and failed to haul in his only target during Sunday's 27-20 victory over the Chargers.
Dec 5, 2022
Dealing with injury
Abdullah (hamstring) was limited on Monday's estimated practice report, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played his typical workload in Sunday's game with the Chargers. With the Raiders playing Thursday against the Rams, any appearance on the injury report early in the week takes on more meaning. However, his limitation was just an estimate and his status in the days ahead will be worth monitoring.
Dec 5, 2022
One touch Sunday
Abdullah took one carry for four yards and failed to catch his only target in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah failed to catch a single pass for the first time since Week 5, logging only 12 offensive snaps behind starter Josh Jacobs. Abdullah's pass-down role could diminish if the Raiders manage to build an early lead against the 3-9 Rams on Thursday.
Nov 28, 2022
Catches first TD of season
Abdullah rushed for 16 yards on three carries and caught all three of his targets for 39 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 40-34 overtime win over the Seahawks. He also returned three kickoffs for 73 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah found the end zone for the first time this season in Seattle, where he racked up 55 yards on six touches despite playing only 14 offensive snaps behind a monster performance from Josh Jacobs. The latter figures to remain the workhorse out of the Raiders' backfield Week 13 against the Chargers, but Abdullah has now caught at least three passes in three straight games.
Nov 21, 2022
Held to five yards on three catches
Abdullah caught three of four targets for five yards in Sunday's 22-16 overtime win over the Broncos. He also returned three kickoffs for 69 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah has caught at least three passes in three of the Raiders' past four contests, but only one of his receptions went for positive yardage Sunday. Starter Josh Jacobs was Las Vegas' only running back to record a carry, though Abdullah figures to continue providing relief on pass downs when the Raiders visit Seattle in Week 12.
Nov 17, 2022
Returns to practice Thursday
Abdullah was a full participant in practice Thursday, Rachel Gossen of the Raiders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah sat out practice due to an illness Wednesday, but he was back on the field Thursday. His ability to practice without limitations suggests that the veteran ball carrier should be good to go for Sunday's clash against Denver. Though he has yet to log a carry this season, Abdullah has seen at least 14 snaps each of the past three weeks and has caught nine passes for 69 yards over that span.
Nov 16, 2022
Comes down will illness
Abdullah (illness) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Rachel Gossen of the Raiders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah appears to have picked up an illness after catching all four of his targets during Sunday's loss to the Colts. While the nature of this ailment is still unclear, he'll have two full days to overcome this ailment before Las Vegas' final injury report Friday. Abdullah has seen a sharp increase in his playing time on offense over the past four weeks, and he'll look to maintain a pass-catching role out of the backfield this Sunday against the Broncos.
Nov 15, 2022
Four receptions in loss
Abdullah caught all four of his targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 25-20 loss to the Colts. He also returned three kickoffs for 86 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah has racked up nine total catches throughout the Raiders' past three games, but workhorse Josh Jacobs caught six passes on eight targets of his own out of the backfield during Sunday's contest. Nonetheless, Abdullah remains well ahead of fellow backup Brandon Bolden for pass-down work behind Jacobs.
Nov 7, 2022
Targeted thrice in loss
Abdullah caught one of three targets for eight yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Jaguars. He also returned two kickoffs for 21 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah has beat out fellow backup Brandon Bolden for the pass-down role out of the Raiders' backfield since the team's Week 6 bye, but it hasn't translated to much fantasy relevance for Abdullah behind workhorse Josh Jacobs. Abdullah figures to see a similar level of involvement against the Colts in Week 10.
Oct 31, 2022
Four receptions Sunday
Abdullah caught four passes for 28 yards on five targets in Sunday's 24-0 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah has caught a total of six passes over the Raiders' past two contests, but three of his receptions came in the fourth quarter Sunday when the Saints had already built a 24-point lead. Fellow backup Brandon Bolden played just one offensive snap to Abdullah's 20, indicating the latter may have a firmer grasp on the pass-down role again Week 9 against the Jaguars.
Oct 24, 2022
Pair of receptions Sunday
Abdullah caught two passes on as many targets for seven yards in Sunday's 38-20 win over the Texans. He also returned one kickoff for 17 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played more than one offensive snap for the first time since Week 2, but he handled just two touches while starter Josh Jacobs racked up 155 total yards and three scores. Meanwhile, Brandon Bolden only saw the field on special teams. Abdullah's role in the offense figures to remain limited against the Saints in Week 8 with Jacobs at full strength.
Sep 20, 2022
Takes lone reception 23 yards
Abdullah caught his only target for 23 yards in Sunday's overtime loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played 14 offensive snaps in the pass-down role behind starter Josh Jacobs with fellow running back Brandon Bolden (hamstring) sidelined for the contest, but Abdullah's only touch came in the second quarter. Jacobs, who handled 19 carries for 69 yards Sunday, should lead the charge out of the Raiders' backfield again Week 3 at Tennessee while Abdullah mixes in sparingly.
Sep 12, 2022
Targeted once Sunday
Abdullah failed to reel in his only target in Sunday's 24-19 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played only seven offensive snaps while fellow running back Brandon Bolden caught two passes for 21 yards and a score behind starter Josh Jacobs. However, Bolden exited Sunday's contest early due to a hamstring injury, so Abdullah could see an uptick in passing-down work Week 2 against the Cardinals if Bolden remains sidelined.
Aug 24, 2022
Could split role with Bolden
Abdullah and Brandon Bolden split third-down work in Tuesday's practice, and both could have roles in a likely backfield committee, Tashan Reed and Vic Tafur or The Athletic report.
ANALYSIS
Josh Jacobs seems to be on track for the Week 1 start, but with Abdullah and Bolden candidates to steal passing-down snaps and rookie Zamir White a threat to take short-yardage work. While four-man backfield committees aren't common, the Raiders could do it without much sacrifice elsewhere on the roster, as Bolden and Abdullah both have ample experience playing special teams. It's also still possible coach Josh McDaniel chooses one over the other for a role that mostly figures to entail playing time in hurry-up situations and on third downs.
Aug 15, 2022
Doesn't play Sunday
Abdullah didn't see any snaps in Sunday's preseason win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to top back Josh Jacobs, as well as versatile special teams ace Brandon Bolden, which paved the way for Brittain Brown, Austin Walter, Kenyan Drake and Zamir Whiteto handle the carries in the Raiders' second preseason game. Heading into training camp, there wasn't much fantasy buzz about Abdullah, but at this stage the 29-year-old appears to be making a push to overtake Drake as the team's top change-of-pace back. With that in mind, Albert Breer of SI.com noted Friday that Abdullah is "carving out a real role" and if he indeed emerges as a key pass-catching catching threat out of the Las Vegas backfield, the 2015 second-rounder could resurface on the PPR radar.
Aug 5, 2022
Finds end zone in preseason opener
Abdullah rushed twice for seven yards and a touchdown, secured both targets for 23 yards and returned one punt for 13 yards during the Raiders' 27-11 preseason win over the Jaguars in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah was the third running back into the game behind Josh Jacobs and rookie Zamir White, making his presence felt on an eight-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The versatile veteran also looked good on the receiving front and in his one return opportunity, and his ability to contribute on special teams could ultimately prove to be the tiebreaker if it comes down to him and Kenyan Drake for a roster spot. Abdullah's next opportunity to make his case for a roster spot comes in the Raiders' next preseason matchup on Sunday, Aug. 14 against the Vikings.
Mar 18, 2022
Signed by Raiders
Abdullah has signed a contract with the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
In 17 games (11 with the Panthers and six with the Vikings) last season, the 2015 second-rounder recorded 51 carries for 166 yards and 38 catches for 289 yards with one TD. He'll provide the Raiders -- who've also added Brandon Bolden in free agency -- with further running back depth behind Josh Jacobs and Kenyan Drake, while also giving the team another option as a kick returner.
Jan 9, 2022
Leads team in touches
Abdullah rushed seven times for 26 yards and caught 9 of 11 targets for 56 yards in Sunday's 41-17 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah ended the season by leading the Panthers in touches, marking his biggest workload of the campaign. Unsurprisingly, that involvement also resulted in Abdullah's best yardage output, ranking second on Carolina in both rushing and receiving yards Sunday, with his nine grabs comfortably setting a new career high. After joining the Panthers midway through the season, Abdullah's all-purpose ability offered a flexible option in Christian McCaffrey's (ankle) extended absence. Finishing with 51 carries for 166 yards and 38 catches on 53 targets for 289 more yards, Abdullah's production from 16 games split between the Panthers and Vikings should garner him interest as a free agent this offseason, especially when considering his added value as a kickoff returner.
Jan 2, 2022
Garners 10 touches
Abdullah rushed six times for 21 yards and caught all four of his targets for 31 yards in Sunday's 18-10 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah saw Chuba Hubbard lead the Panthers with 17 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown, but he nonetheless garnered a double-digit amount of touches himself. While most his yards came on two plays, a 15-yard rush and 17-yard catch, Abdullah actually led Carolina in receptions on the day. The veteran's yardage ceiling and scoring potential are both restricted, but his underneath presence in a struggling offense gives him lukewarm value heading into Week 18's finale versus the Buccaneers.
Dec 27, 2021
Gets five touches
Abdullah rushed twice for one yard and caught three of six targets for eight yards in Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played a third of Carolina's offensive snaps but couldn't get anything going against a stringy Tampa Bay defense. In fact, the tailback's biggest impact came on special teams, where he returned three kickoffs for 76 yards. Although another tough matchup awaits in Week 17 versus the Saints, the flow of that contest could present a few opportunities for Abdullah to make an impact as a pass-catcher.
Dec 19, 2021
Good receiving production
Abdullah ran for seven yards on four carries and caught four passes for 48 yards and one touchdown on four targets against Buffalo on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
While the rookie Chuba Hubbard again functioned as Carolina's rushing specialist at running back, taking eight carries for 40 yards, Abdullah ran away with the pass-catching functions Sunday. That workload split might be how the Panthers ride out the rest of their wretched 2021 season, and against Tampa Bay in Week 16 the matchup only figures to get tougher for the Carolina backfield.
Dec 13, 2021
Leads tailbacks in snaps
Abdullah rushed four times for 16 yards and caught two of four targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 29-21 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah, due to his superior pass-catching presence, actually played 13 more offensive snaps than fellow tailback Chuba Hubbard. Both players managed just 33 scrimmage yards, but Hubbard scored a touchdown to boost his performance and tied for the team lead with 10 carries. With a tough matchup in Week 15 at the Bills, the game flow could again favor Abdullah, but Buffalo's defense could make it difficult to muster much yardage.
Nov 29, 2021
Involved without McCaffrey
Abdullah rushed twice for four yards and caught two of six targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 33-10 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah led Carolina's backfield with 27 snaps after starter Christian McCaffrey suffered an ankle injury and featured for just one second-half play. Although the Panthers now entering their bye week gives McCaffrey some time to heal, Abdullah and Chuba Hubbard would figure to assume much of McCaffrey's extra workload should he be limited ahead of Week 14's matchup versus the Falcons, potentially improving their respective stocks.
Nov 22, 2021
Rushes once Sunday
Abdullah rushed once for six yards in Sunday's 27-21 loss to Washington.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah saw his involvement scaled back significantly in quarterback Cam Newton's first start. With Newton rushing 10 times, tying tailback Christian McCaffrey for the team lead, backups like Abdullah and Chuba Hubbard were hardly needed. In fact, they played just nine offensive snaps combined. Whether that cut in playing time is a sign of things to come or just a one-week change, Abdullah's reserve role behind McCaffrey restricts his fantasy value regardless.
Nov 15, 2021
Gets 13 touches
Abdullah rushed nine times for 24 yards and caught all four of his targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 34-10 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah has now totaled double-digit touches in two of three games since joining the Panthers, with the last couple coming even with Christian McCaffrey in the lineup. Although rookie Chuba Hubbard seems like Carolina's preferred ball-carrier behind McCaffrey, Abdullah's pass-catching utility has helped move the chains. While the blowout nature of Sunday's game afforded Abdullah more playing time in the second half, he should nonetheless remain involved from his third-string role in Week 11 versus Washington.
Nov 8, 2021
Makes four grabs
Abdullah rushed once for no yards but caught four of five targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah worked behind the now-healthy Christian McCaffrey and rookie Chuba Hubbard, but he still managed to make an impact in the passing game. Although his third-string status should restrict his weekly upside, especially as McCaffrey's workload increases, Abdullah's capability in throwing situations could help Carolina here and there.
Oct 31, 2021
Gets involved Sunday
Abdullah rushed eight times for 31 yards and caught three of five targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah only signed for Carolina last week but already played a meaningful role in Sunday's win. Only starting tailback Chuba Hubbard garnered more carries, while only top wideout DJ Moore led him in receiving. Although the versatile veteran did well in his debut, the potential return of superstar Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) in Week 9 versus the Patriots could immediately reduce Abdullah's role, making the Panthers' backfield situation worthwhile to monitor.
Oct 23, 2021
Joins Carolina
Abdullah signed with the Panthers on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off a multi-game stint with the Vikings, Abdullah jumps over to a similar situation backing up the likes of Chuba Hubbard and Royce Freeman. Christian McCaffrey (hamstring) isn't eligible to be activated off injured reserve until at least Week 9 which should afford the veteran castaway a few weeks on the Panthers' active roster.
Oct 19, 2021
Released by Vikings
The Vikings released Abdullah on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah's release was the corresponding move to allow Kene Nwangwu to take a spot on the active roster as the third-string back behind Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison. Abdullah has a fairly lengthy track record in the league, so he should find a home either on another active roster or on a practice squad.
Sep 25, 2021
Officially joins Minnesota
Abdullah signed a contract with the Vikings on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
This move doesn't impact Dalvin Cook's (ankle) availability for Sunday's contest given the Vikings had already used Abdullah's two practice squad callups prior to this week. The veteran tailback has played just 10 offensive snaps through two weeks, but that workload would go drastically up in the event Cook is unable to play.
Sep 21, 2021
Drops to practice squad
The Vikings released Abdullah and signed him to the practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The Vikings are keeping Abdullah close because they only have two running backs -- Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison -- on their active roster. Through two games, Abdullah has recorded 19 yards on three touches.
Sep 18, 2021
Signed to active roster
Abdullah signed a contract with the Vikings on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah actually played a crucial role in the Week 1 contetst, registering as many snaps as nominal backup Alexander Mattison, but saw just three total touches in the contest. Practice squad callup rules would have forced the Vikings to officially sign Abdullah to the active roster as soon as next week had they elevated him a second time, so this designation isn't exactly surprising.
Sep 13, 2021
Three touches Sunday
Abdullah had one carry for four yards and two receptions for 15 yards on two targets in Sunday's loss at Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played as many snaps as Alexander Mattison behind starter Dalvin Cook. It looks like Abdullah will be in the third-down running back mix, but Cook will still dominate the touches. Abdullah may be moved up and down from the practice squad in a transaction scheme all season to save an active roster spot, but it looks like he'll have a small but steady role on offense and important role on special teams.
Sep 11, 2021
Jumps up to active roster
Abdullah was elevated to the Vikings' active roster Saturday, independent NFL journalist Aaron Wilson reports.
ANALYSIS
The Vikings had just to active running backs on the roster in form of Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison, so this move makes complete sense. The veteran castoff has been primarily a special teams player over the past two seasons accumulating over 500 snaps combined since 2019.
Sep 2, 2021
Remains with Minneosta
Abdullah signed to the Vikings' practice squad Wednesday, Craig Peters of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah was cut by the Vikings on Tuesday but will stick around the organization on the practice squad. The 28-year-old could join the 53-man roster ahead of Week 1 since Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison are the only running backs currently on the roster.
Aug 31, 2021
Exits Minnesota
Abdullah was released by the Vikings on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah was competing with Kene Nwangwu (knee) for the No. 3 running back role behind Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison. It looks like he ultimately got beat out for the job. The seventh-year running back suited up for 42 games with Minnesota over the previous three seasons.
Aug 14, 2021
Totals 41 yards
Abdullah rushed the ball five times for 29 yards in Saturday's preseason contest against Denver. He added two receptions for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah was the team's first back on the field with both Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison held out of the game. He didn't carry a heavy workload but broke off gains of nine and 12 yards to account for the majority of his production. Abdullah figures to have the inside track for the third position on the running back depth chart, though he'll have to hold off Kene Nwangwu (knee) and A.J. Rose.
Mar 24, 2021
Staying with Vikes
Abdullah is re-signing with Minnesota, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2015 second-round pick never panned out as a ballcarrier, instead making his living on special teams. He's played only 212 offensive snaps in 39 games for the Vikings, taking 55 touches for 313 yards and three TDs. Abdullah figures to enter training camp as Minnesota's third or fourth running back, but he could be the top guy for kick returns.
Feb 7, 2021
Has 16 touches in 2020
Abdullah ended his 2020 season carrying the ball eight times for 42 yards and catching eight of his nine targets for 58 yards in 16 games. He also had two touchdown receptions
ANALYSIS
Abdullah hasn't been a fantasy asset since 2017 with the Lions. In three seasons since then between Detroit and Minnesota, he has 58 touches in 42 games. With Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison ahead of him on the depth chart, the 27-year-old Abdullah wasn't a vital part of the Vikings' ground attack. Abdullah, an unrestricted free agent once again, won't be much more than a depth option wherever he lands.
Dec 22, 2020
No offensive touches
Abdullah returned one kickoff for 30 yards during Sunday's 33-27 loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old had eight offensive touches over the previous two contests, but he played only one offensive snap with the return of Alexander Mattison Sunday. However, Mattison suffered a concussion, so Abdullah could return to a minor offensive role down the stretch.
Dec 14, 2020
Gets five touches Sunday
Abdullah had three carries for 11 yards and two receptions for ten yards in Sunday's loss at Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah continues to get more work with Alexander Mattison (abdomen) out, but neither he nor Mike Boone (four snaps) are getting enough touches for viable fantasy value in most formats. Dalvin Cook continues to get almost all the work (22 carries, two receptions and played on 54 of the offense's 79 snaps) as the starting running back.
Dec 8, 2020
Generates 29 yards from scrimmage
Abdullah rushed twice for 11 yards and caught his lone target for 18 yards in Sunday's 27-24 overtime win against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
With Alexander Mattison (abdomen) out, Abdullah handled just four snaps on offense, while Mike Boone played just two. Dalvin Cook simply absorbed Mattison's workload and finished with 38 touches and an 87 percent snap share. In turn, Abdullah can't be trusted as a fantasy player unless both Cook and Mattison are sidelined.
Nov 10, 2020
Scores TD against Lions
Abdullah had one reception for a 22-yard touchdown in Sunday's win over Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played just one snap on offense and he's had just two receptions all season (along with two carries), so we wouldn't read too much into this touchdown. Abdullah is fourth on the RB depth chart and will only be a significant factor if both Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison are sidelined.
Oct 19, 2020
Larger role off bench
Abdullah had two carries for seven yards and one reception for on yard on two targets in Sunday's loss to the Falcons. He also added three kick returns for an average of 24.3 yards.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah played on 16 of the offense's 56 snaps as he got more playing time than Mike Boone (5 snaps) as Alexander Mattison's backup with Dalvin Cook sidelined with a groin injury with the Vikings needing to throw the ball after falling behind big early. Abdullah will likely return to a minimal role with Cook expected to return after Minnesota's bye in Week 7.
Sep 14, 2020
No touches Sunday
Abdullah did not have a carry or reception in Sunday's loss to Green Bay. He played just two snaps on offense.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah's role with the Vikings has shrunk this season. While he's third on the depth chart at RB, Mike Boone would likely supplant him if Dalvin Cook or Alexander Mattison were to get hurt and the team needed someone to get significant carries. K.J. Osborn has also taken over as the primary kickoff returner, which will limit Abdullah's value on special teams.
Mar 27, 2020
Back with Minnesota
The Vikings have re-signed Abdullah.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old logged 23 carries for 115 yards to go along with 15 catches for 88 yards and a TD in 16 games for the team last season. Now that he's back in the fold, Abdullah will continue to serve as a depth option in Minnesota's backfield and should also reprise his role as the squad's primary kickoff returner in 2020.
Jan 15, 2020
Mild production in 2019
Abdullah rushed 23 times for 115 yards and caught 15 passes for 88 yards and a score over 16 regular-season games.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah logged a bulk of his touches over the final three games as Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison were battling injuries, but he consistently contributed as a kick returner. The 2015 second-round pick will be an unrestricted free agent if he isn't re-signed by the Vikings, and he may seek an increased role elsewhere.
Aug 25, 2019
Returns to action
Abdullah (shoulder) had one carry for seven yards and two punt returns for 27 yards in Saturday's preseason win over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Abdullah had missed practice time with a shoulder injury, but it doesn't look like a worry for the start of the regular season. Abdullah has been competing with Mike Boone and De'Angelo Henderson for the No. 3 role at the running back position, but he may make the roster in any scenario since he's likely to be the team's primary kick and punt returner.
Aug 21, 2019
Leaves practice Wednesday
Abdullah suffered a shoulder injury that forced him to leave practice Wednesday, Ben Goessling of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The former first-round pick suffered the injury during 11-on-11 drills, and it's unclear how serious it is. Abdullah has been competing with Mike Boone and De'Angelo Henderson for the No. 3 role at the running back position, so he'll miss out on valuable reps. Expect the team to update his status in the coming days.
