Won't be elevated
York won't be elevated off the practice squad ahead of Sunday's game versus Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
York will remain on the practice squad once again, as Charlie Smyth will continue to serve as the team's kicker. York was initially unable to beat out Smyth in the competition for the kicker spot, but he could take over the role going forward if Smyth struggles versus the Buccaneers.

Won't be elevated
York won't be elevated off the practice squad ahead of Sunday's game versus the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
York was unable to win the competition with Charlie Smyth for the team's starting kicker spot and will thus remain on the practice squad. However, if Smyth struggles versus Miami, the Saints could turn to York for their Week 14 matchup against Tampa Bay.
Nov 26, 2025
Competing for kicker job
York and Charlie Smyth will compete for the Saints' placekicker job, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
The Saints waived Blake Grupe on Tuesday and then added York to the practice squad, where Smyth already resides. Both York and Smyth are known for leg strength more so than accuracy, with York having made just 33 of 45 field-goal attempts (73.3 percent) in his NFL career.
Nov 25, 2025
New kicker in NOLA
The Saints signed York to their practice squad Tuesday, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
ANALYSIS
After Blake Grupe missed his seventh and eighth field-goal attempts of the season in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Falcons, the Saints elected to bring in York and Justin Tucker for kicker tryouts Monday. York made enough of an impression during his workout to earn a spot on the practice squad, and he'll likely be elevated or signed to the 53-man roster in short order to make his Saints debut Sunday in Miami after New Orleans cut Grupe on Tuesday. Over 18 career games in parts of two seasons with stops in Cleveland, Washington and Cincinnati, York has gone 33-for-45 (73.3 percent) on field-goal tries and owns a career long of 59 yards.

Makes all five kicks vs. Pittsburgh
York made all four of his field-goal attempts and his lone extra-point try during the Bengals' 19-17 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
York missed three kicks over his last three games heading into Saturday's regular-season finale, but the third-year kicker was flawless in a must-win game. The Bengals' offense went 1-for-4 on red zone drives, which put York in a position to convert on easier kicks, with three of his four field-goal attempts coming from within 40 yards. He served as Cincinnati's placekicker for the final five games of the regular season due to Evan McPherson (groin) going on IR. Over that span, York went 9-for-11 on field-goal attempts and 14-for-15 on extra-point tries. It's unclear whether York or McPherson would handle kicking duties in the wild-card round if the Bengals make the playoffs with a Broncos' loss and a Dolphins' loss or tie.
Dec 29, 2024
Misses overtime field goal
York went 1-for-2 on field-goal attempts and converted all three of his extra-point attempts during the Bengals' 30-24 overtime win over the Broncos on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
York converted on a 22-yard chip shot to close out the Bengals' first offensive drive of the second half. He had a chance to win the game for Cincinnati in overtime, but his 33-yard field-goal attempt clanged the left upright. He has missed a field goal in two straight weeks, and in the four games since taking over for Evan McPherson (groin) as the Bengals' kicker, York has gone 5-for-7 on field-goal attempts and 13-for-14 on extra-point tries. McPherson is eligible to be activated off injured reserve for Cincinnati's regular-season finale against Pittsburgh.
Dec 23, 2024
Misses 47-yard field goal
York went 1-for-2 on field-goal attempts and converted all three of his extra-point tries in the Bengals' 24-6 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
York missed out on an opportunity to put the Bengals up by 10 points late in the first quarter when his 47-yard field-goal attempt missed left. He managed to make up for it when he connected on a 59-yard field-goal try as time expired in the first half to give Cincinnati a 17-point lead. York was signed off the Bengals' practice squad to the active roster this past Tuesday to serve as the staring placekicker until Evan McPherson (groin) returns from injured reserve. In his three games with Cincinnati, York has gone 4-for-5 on field-goal tries and 10-for-11 on extra-point attempts.
Dec 17, 2024
Gets spot on roster
The Bengals signed York off their practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
York will get a full-time spot on the Bengals' 53-man roster after he had previously been elevated from the practice squad over the last two weeks to handle kicking duties in the wake of Evan McPherson's (groin) move to injured reserve. McPherson is eligible to return in Week 18, but the Bengals are likely to be eliminated from playoff contention before then and are unlikely to rush him back in action for the regular-season finale. Over his first two games as a replacement for McPherson, York has knocked down seven of his eight extra-point tries and has nailed field-goal attempts of 21, 29 and 37 yards.
Dec 16, 2024
Reverts to practice squad
York reverted to the Bengals's practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
York made his only field-goal attempt and four-of-five on extra-point tries while filling in for Evan McPherson (groin), who is on injured reserve. York will likely continue to serve as the team's kicker as McPherson will remain sidelined for at least two more weeks.
Dec 14, 2024
Set to kick for CIN in Week 15
The Bengals elevated York from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Evan McPherson (groin) is slated to miss at least three more games while on IR, so York should be able to hold down the team's placekicker role as long as he performs well. Last Monday against Dallas, York made both of his field-goal attempts and all three of his extra-point tries in a dramatic victory. The Bengals' Week 15 opponent -- Tennessee -- has allowed 21 successful field goals through 13 games on the campaign.
Dec 10, 2024
Reverts to practice squad
York reverted to the Bengals' practice squad Tuesday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
The kicker was elevated to the active roster for Monday's 27-20 win over the Cowboys with Evan McPherson out due to a groin injury. York made the most of his opportunity, making both of his field-goal attempts and all three of his extra-point attempts. With McPherson on injured reserve until at least Week 18, York looks likely to get another opportunity next Sunday against the Titans.
Dec 9, 2024
Gets the call
York has been elevated from the Bengals' practice squad to their active roster Monday.
ANALYSIS
York will get the nod as Cincinnati's kicker against the Cowboys on Monday, as Evan McPherson tends to a groin injury. The LSU product appeared in one game earlier this season for the Commanders and missed both of his FGAs, one from 47 and the other from 56 yards out, which led to him being waived the next day. He'll now have a shot at redemption against Dallas on MNF.
Dec 4, 2024
Signs with Cincinnati
The Bengals signed York to their practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
With Evan McPherson (groin) placed on injured reserve Wednesday, York is expected to get the promotion to the 53-man roster ahead of Monday night's game against the Cowboys. Kicking for an offense that scores plenty of points immediately puts York on the fantasy kicking radar.
Dec 4, 2024
Set to fill in for McPherson
York is in line to join the Bengals' practice squad, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With Evan McPherson expected to miss a few weeks with a groin injury, York is on track to kick for the Bengals on Monday versus the Cowboys. York last saw game action in Week 1 with the Commanders, when he missed both of his field-goal attempts in a loss to the Buccaneers.
Sep 9, 2024
Let go by Washington
The Commanders cut York from the active roster on Monday.
ANALYSIS
York missed both of his field-goal attempts during Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Buccaneers. Though he converted both his extra-point tries, a rough Week 1 showing was enough for York to lose his tenure on the starting kicker gig for Washington. His misses came from 47 and 56 yards out. Now, York will have to search for an opportunity to compete elsewhere in the league.
Sep 9, 2024
Inaccurate from deep
York made two extra-point tries but missed both of his field goal attempts in Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
It was a rough start for York in Washington, who was acquired via trade from Cleveland during training camp. However, they weren't chip shots for the LSU product, with his misses coming from 47 and 56 yards out. He'll have a chance to get on track in Week 2 against the Giants.
Aug 22, 2024
Traded to Washington
The Browns traded York to the Commanders on Thursday for a conditional seventh-round pick, ESPN's John Keim reports.
ANALYSIS
The Commanders then released Riley Patterson, leaving York as the only kicker on their roster. Meanwhile, Dustin Hopkins (undisclosed) is left as the lone kicker for Cleveland, suggesting the team isn't worried that his recent, minor injury will impact his Week 1 availability. The Browns took York in the fourth round of the 2022 Draft, but he was released the following preseason after missing eight field-goal attempts his rookie year. He then spent time with the Giants and Titans before landing back in Cleveland this spring.
Aug 18, 2024
Makes all kicks
York was successful on his lone field-goal attempt and extra-point try in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
The Browns have used York in both preseason games thus far, and the kicker has yet to miss, including a 55-yard field goal in last week's preseason opener. The Browns expended a fourth-round draft pick in 2022 on York, who was expected to put an end to the team's placekicking woes but flamed out. Dustin Hopkins owns the job now, and York is around this preseason as insurance only.
Mar 23, 2024
Signs with Cleveland
The Browns signed York on Saturday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
York spent last season on the practice squads of the Titans and Giants after the Browns cut him following training camp last summer. A 2022 fourth-round pick by Cleveland, York made just 24 of 32 field-goal attempts (75 percent) as a rookie before losing his job after one season. York joins Dustin Hopkins and Lucas Havrisik at kicker for Cleveland.
Jan 24, 2024
Visits with Tennessee
York visited the Titans on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
York has seemingly recovered from the quadriceps injury that landed him on the Giants' practice squad injured list back in December. The 22-year-old will now look to catch on with another team after having already visited Jacksonville on Tuesday.
Dec 22, 2023
Suffers quad injury
York (quad) was placed on the practice squad reserve/injured list Friday, Michael Elsen of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old seemed to be in line to kick for the Giants in Week 16, with both Graham Gano (knee) and Randy Bullock (hamstring) on IR, but York suffered a quad injury at Thursday's practice that's also landed him on the practice squad IR. Down three different kickers, New York signed Mason Crosby to its practice squad Friday and he's expected to kick for the team Monday night.
Dec 20, 2023
Likely to start Week 16
Coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday he does not expect Randy Bullock (hamstring) to play in Monday's game against the Eagles, leaving York as the Giants' likely starter, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
York, who currently resides on New York's practice squad, looks destined to be elevated to the active roster in time to start Monday's divisional matchup. The 2022 fourth-round pick hasn't yet appeared in a game this season, but across 17 appearances with the Browns as a rookie he converted 24 of 32 field-goal attempts and 35 of 37 extra-point tries.
Nov 24, 2023
Inked to practice squad
The Giants signed York to the practice squad Friday.
ANALYSIS
York re-joins New York as a member of the practice squad. He signed to the team's roster early November, but was a healthy scratch in each contest. It will again be veteran Randy Bullock who starts for the Giants during Sunday's game against New England.
Nov 22, 2023
Parts ways with Giants
The Giants waived York on Friday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
New York signed the 22-year-old kicker in early November after deciding to place Graham Gano (knee) on IR. However, the team brought in veteran Randy Bullock at the same time, and Bullock was ultimately given the first chance to kick on game days. He didn't do anything to lose the job, thus York has been let go after being a healthy scratch three straight Sundays. After being selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, York went 24-for-32 on field goals -- including 4-for-7 from 50-plus yards -- as a rookie with Cleveland last year.
Nov 19, 2023
Healthy scratch again
York (coach's decision) is inactive ahead of Sunday's game against the Commanders, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old had a chance to win the kicking job in New York after Graham Gano (knee) was placed on injured reserve, but it seems as if he's lost the competition, with Randy Bullock assuming the team's kicking duties. York has yet to appear in an NFL game since signing with the Giants' in early November.
Nov 5, 2023
Inactive in Week 9
York (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game at Las Vegas, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants signed York off the Titans' practice squad Friday, giving them a choice between him and Randy Bullock to kick for the team after Graham Gano (knee) was placed on injured reserve. Unfortunately for York, Bullock is getting the call Sunday, but the former will have at least two more chances to sub in for Gano considering rules regarding getting signed off another team's practice squad mean he must remain on the active roster for a minimum of three games.
Nov 4, 2023
Joined by Bullock on active roster
The Giants elevated Randy Bullock from the practice squad Saturday, meaning he or York are the candidates to kick for the team Sunday at Las Vegas, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants have yet to tip their hand about who will get the first chance to take over for regular placekicker Graham Gano, who was placed on injured reserve Friday due to a lingering left knee injury. York was the Browns' kicker last season, netting 24 of 32 field-goal attempts and 35 of 37 point-after tries in 17 games.
Nov 3, 2023
Joins Giants
The Giants are signing York off the Titans' practice squad.
ANALYSIS
With Graham Gano (knee) slated to go on IR, York and Randy Bullock are candidates to serve as the Giants' kicker Sunday against the Raiders. Per Dan Duggan of The Athletic, a decision on the team's Week 9 kicker could hinge on a competition between York and Bullock during Friday's practice.
Aug 30, 2023
Joins Tennessee's practice squad
York is signing with the Titans' practice squad Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
York was waived by the Browns on Tuesday after the team acquired Dustin Hopkins from the Chargers. The Titans also made a trade for a kicker by acquiring Nick Folk from the Patriots, but York will also be part of the organization on the practice squad.
Aug 28, 2023
To be cut following trade
The Browns are slated to waive York after having traded for Dustin Hopkins from the Chargers, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
York lost Cleveland's kicking competition by virtue of going 4-for-8 on field-goal tries in four preseason appearances, including back-to-back games in which he failed to convert what would have been a game-winner. Now, the 2022 fourth-round pick's roster spot has been made expendable by the Browns' trade of a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Chargers in exchange for veteran placekicker Dustin Hopkins. If he clears waivers, York will look to land on a practice squad elsewhere in the league. He could even be a candidate to reunite with Cleveland, considering the draft capital invested in him by the team.
Aug 27, 2023
Not named starter
Head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters Sunday that he has not committed to York being the starting kicker for Week 1, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Stefanski reiterated that the discussions have been internal and that York is "really talented." The 2022 fourth-round pick out of LSU has struggled in the preseason, going just 4-for-8 on field goal tries in four games but has converted on all eight extra-point attempts. The Browns opted to not bring in another kicker during training camp, but with York's preseason performance, they could change course and bring in some competition ahead of their season opener against the Bengals on Sept. 10.
Aug 19, 2023
Won't face competition in camp
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Friday that there are no plans to bring in another kicker to compete with York during the preseason, Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports.
ANALYSIS
York has struggled in exhibition action, hitting just half of his six field-goal attempts. He had two chances at a go-ahead kick late Thursday, missing wide right on a 47-yarder and wide left from five yards closer after the Eagles were flagged for a penalty. Nonetheless, Stefanski indicated confidence in the kicker, saying, "Cade's our kicker. We support him. We have a ton of confidence in him. That's really as simple as that." York was up-and-down as a rookie last season, making just 24 of 32 field-goal attempts but showing a strong leg with a 4-for-7 mark from 50-plus yards.
Aug 18, 2023
Misses twice Thursday
York was successful on three of four field-goal attempts in Thursday's 18-18 preseason game against the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
York, who had missed attempts in each of the first two preseason games, made all three tries during the first half Thursday. But all anyone will remember are the misses near the end of the game that could have sealed a win for the Browns. He went wide right on a 47-yarder -- the third time he went wide right during preseason action -- but a Philadelphia penalty gave him another chance, five yards closer. That one he hooked to the left. Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski stood by the young kicker, telling Zac Jackson of The Athletic that he's not interested in adding another to kicker to compete with York. Nevertheless, the misses are alarming.
Aug 12, 2023
Misses second FGA
York missed his lone field-goal attempt in Friday's preseason game against Washington.
ANALYSIS
York pushed a 46-yarder wide right, the second miss of the preseason with both going astray to the same side. Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said he's not concerned about York, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports, and Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports the Browns have no plans to bring in a kicker to compete with York.
Aug 4, 2023
Missed FGA in HoF game
York missed a 49-yard field goal attempt and made all three extra-point kicks in Thursday's preseason win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
York was wide right on the Browns' first drive of the game. He's coming off a roller coaster of a rookie season that included three misses inside the 40 and a 75-percent success rate. Prior to the start of training camp, Cleveland special teams coach Bubba Ventrone told Ashley Bostock of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that York is very in-tune with his mechanics, then added the caveat, "almost too in-tune at times," which provides insight into his inconsistency last season. The kicker himself said preseason is the time to focus on technique, but he needs to put that behind him when transitioning to the regular season.
Jan 9, 2023
Quiet finish
York did not attempt a field goal and converted both extra-point kicks in Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Steelers in Week 18.
ANALYSIS
York had a quiet finale but finished the season on a high note, making all eight kicks over the final three weeks. It was an uneven season for the rookie, who became a legend in training but made just 75 percent (24 of 32) of field-goal attempts. The Browns spent fourth-round draft capital on the LSU product, and while he may not have solidified the kicking game as envisioned, York was the least of the team's issues in 2022. They expect him to be their kicker in 2023.
Jan 2, 2023
Makes all kicks
York converted his lone field-goal attempt and all three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 24-10 win over Washington in Week 17.
ANALYSIS
York gave the Browns a 3-0 first-quarter lead when he buried a 37-yarder. Later in the quarter, he booted a chip shot from 25 yards, but Washington was offside on the play. That prompted head head coach Kevin Stefanski to bring the offense back to go for it on 4th-and goal from the 3-yard line, but Washington stopped them on downs.
Dec 26, 2022
Makes both kicks
York converted his lone field-goal attempt and extra-point try in Saturday's 17-10 loss to New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
York connected from 30 yards but was not given a shot at longer kicks on a brutally cold day in Cleveland. Two drives ended on the Saints' side of the field, but attempts would have been from 59 and 60 yards. The Browns have averaged 11 points over the last three games, which suggests York is not a good option for fantasy teams still in the hunt.
Dec 18, 2022
Misses two FGAs
York made two of four field-goal attempts and one extra-point kick in Saturday's 13-3 win over Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
York was in position for a big day but missed from 38 and 46 yards on successive possessions in the fourth quarter. There was some December weather in Cleveland -- winds at 12 MPH from the northeast, freezing temperatures and snow -- but York said it wasn't really an issue. "I mean, it really wasn't that bad," York told Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal. "A little windy, snow came in, had nothing to do with anything that happened. Honestly, I thought I was handling really well and kicking the ball well into that fourth quarter." Fortunately for the Browns, the rookie kicker's miscues had no impact. York's made just 73 percent (22 of 30) of his field-goal attempts and missed a total of 10 kicks this season.
Dec 17, 2022
Lobbied for long FGA
York pleaded with coaches to let him attempt a 68-yard field goal in last week's loss to the Bengals, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. "If I'm asking for the kick, I think I can make it," York said.
ANALYSIS
The Browns were at the 50-yard line and trailing, 13-3, with time running out in the first half. When quarterback Deshaun Watson spiked the ball to stop the clock, York lobbied to try the kick, but head coach Kevin Stefanski opted for a Hail Mary pass, which was unsuccessful. The rookie placekicker has converted four of seven attempts from beyond the 50, including a 58-yarder, and had a 60-yard effort blocked against the Ravens in October. York conceded never attempting a kick from 68 yards in pre-game warmups, but he felt confident he could make it.
Dec 12, 2022
Makes all kicks in loss
York converted his lone field-goal attempt and extra-point kick in Sunday's 23-10 loss to Cincinnati in Week 14.
ANALYSIS
York's make was shortie from 26 yards, and the rookie's four-point week tied a season low. He was not given a chance for three points on the Browns' opening drive, which could have given him a normal week of production. Cleveland had 4th-and-1 at the Bengals' 25-yard line, but head coach Kevin Stefanski opted to go for it. York ranks 17th among placekickers with 88 points through 14 games (6.8 PPG).
Dec 5, 2022
Perfect in win
York converted two of two field-goal attempts and three of three extra-point kicks in Sunday's 27-14 win over Houston.
ANALYSIS
York had been wobbly over the previous five weeks, converting just six of 10 field goals, so Sunday's effort was a welcome relief. The 2022 fourth-round pick was viewed as someone that could stabilize the position, which had burned through kickers since 2019, but there have been moments of uncertainty.
Nov 28, 2022
Misses FG
York converted one of two field-goal attempts and two of two extra-point kicks in Sunday's 23-17 overtime win over Tampa Bay in Week 12.
ANALYSIS
York connected from 51 yards in the first quarter -- his fourth conversion on seven tries from 50-plus yards -- then followed up by going wide left from 38 yards two drives later. The rookie kicker had been a darling of training camp, mostly because of his distance, but York has had three field-goal attempts blocked and failed to convert on at least one kick in four of the last five games. Only one of his misses in 2022 can be viewed as costing the Browns a game, and while the preseason bloom has withered, York is way down the list of issues contributing to Cleveland's 4-7 record.
Nov 21, 2022
Has kick blocked
York converted one of two field-goal attempts and both extra-point tries in Sunday's 31-23 loss to the Bills in Week 11.
ANALYSIS
York had a 34-yard attempt blocked, the third time in four weeks a field goal was tipped. He leads all kickers with three attempts blocked, which may be an issue the Browns want to investigate. The team may want to determine if there are protection issues on the line, or if York's trajectory is contributing to the blocks. He's also had tries from 53 and 60 yards blocked.
Nov 14, 2022
Makes all kicks in loss
York successfully converted his lone field-goal attempt and two extra-point tries in Sunday's 39-17 loss to the Dolphins in Week 10.
ANALYSIS
York did his part in the loss, making all the opportunities he was allotted, but there was little a placekicker could do for the Browns in Week 10. Cleveland spent the entire second half down by two or three scores.
Nov 1, 2022
Has one attempt blocked
York converted one of two field-goal attempts and all three extra-point tries in Monday's 32-13 win over Cincinnati in Week 8.
ANALYSIS
York had a kick blocked for a second consecutive week. His first try, from 53 yards out, was rejected by the Bengals' B.J. Hill. In last week's loss to the Ravens, York had a 60-yard boot deflected. The rookie kicker later redeemed himself with a 55-yard field goal.
Oct 24, 2022
One misfire Week 7
York converted two of three field-goal attempts and both extra-point tries in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Baltimore in Week 7.
ANALYSIS
York was sent on the field just prior to the two-minute warning for a 55-yard attempt, but an illegal motion penalty on Michael Dunn pushed it back another five yards. The 60-yarder was blocked, scuttling Cleveland's chances. For what it's worth, replays didn't indicate Dunn moved much, if at all, and a case could be made that the Ravens jumped into the neutral zone, triggering the motion, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said he didn't get a good explanation from officials, who huddled for a lengthy period of time before ruling on the infraction, and will seek a better one from the league. York has 16 field-goal attempts in 2022, eighth most in the NFL.
Oct 16, 2022
Bounces back
York converted three of three field-goal attempts in Sunday's 38-15 loss to the Patriots in Week 6.
ANALYSIS
York made kicks from 39, 48 and 51 yards in what was a nice bounce back week after the rookie placekicker missed two field goals in a two-point loss in Week 5. He was not given a chance at an extra-point kick, as the Browns opted to go for two points after their lone touchdown.
Oct 14, 2022
Has support of staff
Browns special teams coach Mike Priefer believes York will be "fine" after the rookie placekicker missed two field goals in Week 5's 30-28 loss to the Chargers, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. "He's in a good place mentally, he kicked the ball really well [Wednesday], he's never really lost his confidence. He's just as disappointed as any one of us, as any one of our fans," Priefer said.
ANALYSIS
Priefer and head coach Kevin Stefanski lived through a similar situation in 2018 with the Vikings, who had drafted Daniel Carlson in the fifth round (167th overall). Carlson missed three kicks in a game, including two in overtime, and was released after just two games. Carlson has since become a steady-footed kicker for the Raiders and led the league in points and field goals made last season. York will get a longer leash as a result of the coaches' experience with Carlson. "We did not handle that situation very well. We did not help Daniel mentally. He was probably not as strong as Cade at that age. I know he is now, he's doing a great job, he's a great kicker," the coach explained. York and the Browns host the Patriots in Week 6.
Oct 10, 2022
Two misses in two-point loss
York missed both of his field-goal attempts and converted all four extra-point kicks in Sunday's 30-28 loss to the Chargers in Week 5.
ANALYSIS
York pushed a 45-yarder wide right at the end of the first half, then he went wide right from 54 yards with 11 seconds left in the game. He made quite the splash in training camp, preseason games and when he nailed a 58-yarder in Week 1 for the win, but the love he's felt may be waning. Since that Week 1 game-winner, York has missed two extra-point tries, and Week 5's two missed field goals stood out in a two-point loss. There was more beyond the missed kicks that contributed to Sunday's loss, but the rookie placekicker should feel some heat this week.
Oct 3, 2022
No misses Week 4
York converted two of two field-goal attempts and both extra-point kicks in Sunday's 23-20 loss to Atlanta in Week 4.
ANALYSIS
York returned to being perfect after missing extra points in each of the last two weeks. The rookie kicker could have had a third field goal, but head coach Kevin Stefanski went for seven points on 4th-and-goal from the four-yard line on the first drive of the game, which ended with an incomplete pass. York is a perfect 8-for-8 on field goals and has 33 points through four weeks.
Sep 23, 2022
Misses another extra point
York converted his lone field-goal attempt and two of three extra-point tries in Thursday's 29-17 win over Pittsburgh in Week 3.
ANALYSIS
York's miss clanged off the upright and was his second in as many weeks. His miss last week was not the sole reason for Week 2's loss to the Jets, but it was part a team-wide collapse. The rookie kicker was not given a chance for a second field goal just before halftime, when the Browns decided to go for it on 4th-and-2 at the Pittsburgh 31. York has 27 points through three games.

Registers first blemish
York made his lone field-goal attempt and three of four extra-point kicks in Sunday's 31-30 loss to the Jets in Week 2.
ANALYSIS
While the margin of defeat comes down to the missed extra-point attempt, the Browns' loss was a team-wide breakdown in all phases of the game. York's missed kick left the Browns with a 30-17 lead with 1:55 left, and New York had no timeouts left. The Jets needed a defensive breakdown and the special team's inability to recover an onside kick. That all happened after coaches failed to instruct the offense to NOT score if the opportunity presented itself. Instead, Nick Chubb did not kneel down before the end zone and scored a touchdown. Had he taken a knee, the Browns could have run out the clock with a 24-17 win. The missed kick was York's first in the regular season, but the rookie has been very good since he arrived in camp, including the winning 58-yard boot in Week 1.

Nails 58-yarder for win
York successfully booted four-of-four field-goal attempts and both extra-point kicks in Sunday's 26-24 win over Carolina.
ANALYSIS
York was the story for the Browns, scoring 14 of the team's 26 points, including a 58-yard field goal with eight seconds left. That thwarted the Panthers' furious 17-point fourth-quarter push and finished off a successful day for the rookie fourth-round pick out of LSU, Prior to the game-winning kick, York calmly drilled three kicks (26, 34 and 35 yards) on red zone trips. The Browns are not shy about using him from 50-plus yards; York attempted four kicks from beyond the 50 during the preseason.

The rookie's lone miss was wide left from 58 yards out. "I just didn't attack the ball enough," he told George M. Thomas of the Akron Beacon Journal regarding the missed kick. York has been successful from 50 and 57 yards during preseason action, and the two misses were from 55 and 58 yards. the fourth-round draft pick could be a fantasy asset this season, as Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has no qualms about sending him out for long-distance attempts.

Wins rookie award
York was named the winner of the Maurice Bassett Award, which is given annually to the most outstanding rookie in Cleveland's training camp, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
York earned the title with what has been a near-flawless camp. He successfully booted 28 of 30 field-goal attempts during competitive situations, and his final kick during Tuesday's session, from 54 yards, split the uprights with plenty to spare. There's a lot of hype surrounding the rookie, who's lived up to thus far, but he'll need to deliver in regular-season contests and in weather rarely experienced growing up in Texas or kicking for LSU.

Perfect in opener
York made all three extra-point kicks and was successful on a 31-yard field-goal attempt in Friday's 24-13 win over the Jaguars in preseason action.
ANALYSIS
It was a banner night for the Browns' 2022 Draft class, which accounted for all 24 points scored -- fifth-round pick Jerome Ford scored two touchdowns and third-round pick Martin Emerson had a pick six. York built off what has been a strong camp thus far and is a lock to be Cleveland's placekicker, as the rookie fourth-round pick has no competition.

Misses first kick
York has made 11-of-12 field-goal attempts in training camp, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
A few of those successful boots were as far out as 53 yards, although when taking into consideration the distance beyond the goal posts, they could have been good from 60-plus. His lone miss was from 58 yards. The 2022 fourth-round pick out of LSU made 54-of-66 for the Tigers, including 21-of-27 as a freshman for the 2019 national championship team. Not since Phil Dawson, who left as a free agent in 2012 after 14 seasons in Cleveland, have interested observers felt this confident in a Browns' placekicker.

Cleveland selects in fourth round
The Browns selected York in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, 124th overall.
ANALYSIS
Kicker selections are rarely exciting, but York was a good one at LSU and boasts range at or pushing 60 yards. York's field goal percentage was 77.8 percent or better in each of his three seasons, so he has both range and accuracy as he steps into the Cleveland lineup.
