Another missed FGA in Week 13
Ryland went 1-for-2 on field-goal attempts and made both of his PATs in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Ryland was able to convert a 52-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, notching his first make from 50-plus yards since Week 4. The kicker did however push a 43-yard try wide right in the third quarter, missing a field-goal attempt for the third week in a row. The missed kick would come back to haunt the Cardinals in the three-point loss, and Ryland has now gone 18-for-23 on field-goal tries, including 4-for-6 from 50-plus yards, over 12 contests this year.
Nov 23, 2025
Misses FGA in loss to Jacksonville
Ryland made one of two field-goal attempts and all three of his extra points in Arizona's 27-24 overtime loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Ryland's miss came from 33 yards out in the second quarter and sailed wide right, capping a 16-play drive with zero points. In hindsight, it was a critical miss, as the game eventually went to overtime. On the season, Ryland has made 17 of 21 field-goal tries and all 25 of his point-after tries.
Nov 16, 2025
Converts one field goal in loss
Ryland went 1-for-2 on field-goal tries and made his only PAT in Sunday's 41-22 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Ryland pushed a 58-yard attempt wide left in the first quarter before later connecting on a 26-yard try in the second. The kicker has now gone back-to-back weeks without making multiple field goals for the first time this season. Ryland has now gone 16-for-19 on field-goal attempts while making all 22 of his PATs over 10 contests this year.
Nov 9, 2025
No FGAs in loss
Ryland did not attempt a field goal and made both of his PATs in Sunday's 44-22 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Ryland went without a field-goal try for the first time since Week 5, snapping a streak of three straight contests with at least two field goals. The kicker remains 15-for-17 on field-goal attempts, including 2-for-3 from 50-plus yards, as Arizona gets set to face the 49ers in Week 11.
Nov 4, 2025
Makes all five kicks Monday
Ryland connected on both field-goal attempts and all three point-after tries during Monday's 27-17 victory in Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Since sending a 57-yard field goal wide right at the end of the first possession of a Week 3 loss at San Francisco, Ryland has been perfect as a placekicker since then, making 11 FGAs and 14 PATs without a miss. That amounts to 7.8 points per game during that stretch, which would rank 11th among kickers with at least eight appearances this season. With a visit to Seattle on tap Week 10, Ryland may be hard-pressed for success against a Seahawks team that has ceded just eight FGAs over its last five games.
Oct 19, 2025
Perfect in Week 7 loss
Ryland made all three of his field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries during the Cardinals' 27-23 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Ryland opened Sunday's scoring with a 32-yard chip shot midway through the first quarter, and the third-year kicker connected on two more field goals from 40 and 39 yards in the second and fourth quarters, respectively. It was the first time this season that Ryland connected on three field goals in a game, and he has not missed a kick in each of his last four outings. The 2023 fourth-rounder is 13-for-15 on field-goal tries and 16-for-16 on extra-point attempts through the first seven games of the regular season.
Oct 12, 2025
Makes two FGAs in Week 6
Ryland went 2-for-2 on field-goal tries and made all three of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's 31-27 loss to the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Ryland connected on a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter before later adding a 44-yard make in the fourth. The kicker has now made multiple field goals in five of six games this season, and he'll look to maintain his consistent production in Week 7 versus the Packers.
Oct 5, 2025
Perfect on PATs
Ryland went 3-for-3 on extra-point attempts in Sunday's 22-21 loss to the Titans.
ANALYSIS
The kicker did not get a chance to attempt a field goal. Ryland is now 11 of 11 on extra-point tries in 2025, though he has missed two field goals. The former Patriot has been reliable enough so far, but his team has only scored more than 21 points one time.
Sep 25, 2025
Perfect in loss
Ryland went 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts and made both of his extra-point tries in Thursday's 23-20 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Ryland made a 33-yard field goal in the first quarter before later connecting on a season-long 57-yard try in the third quarter. The kicker has now made multiple field goals in each of the team's first four games of the year. To this point in the season, Ryland has gone 8-for-10 on field-goal attempts, including 2-for-3 from 50-plus yards, while making all eight of his PATs.
Sep 21, 2025
Misses key field goal in loss
Ryland went two of three on field-goal attempts and made his only extra-point try in Sunday's 16-15 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
The kicker's miss did come from 57 yards, so it was no gimme, but it also ended up making the difference in a close defeat. Ryland is now six of eight on field-goal tries and six of six on extra-point attempts in 2025. He drilled 88 percent of his field goals as Arizona's primary kicker a year ago.
Sep 14, 2025
Makes two FGAs in Week 2
Ryland went 2-for-2 on field-goal attempts and made three PATs in Sunday's 27-22 win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Ryland finished off Arizona's first offensive possession of the game with a 29-yard field goal, and he later added a 47-yard make in the second quarter. Through two weeks in 2025, the kicker has made four out of five field-goal tries, including a 50-yarder, while also adding five PATs.
Sep 7, 2025
Connects on four kicks vs. NOLA
Ryland went 2-for-3 on field-goal attempts and made both of his extra-point tries during the Cardinals' 20-13 win over the Saints on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Ryland made each of his first four kicks, including a 50-yard field goal early in the second half. He had an opportunity give the Cardinals a 13-point lead late in the fourth quarter, but his attempt from 46 yards out was blocked at the line of scrimmage, which led to a Saints' field goal nine plays later to make it a single score game. Ryland is coming off a 2024 campaign in which he connected on 87.5 percent of his field-goal attempts and made all but one of his 27 extra-point tries.
Aug 24, 2025
Perfect on four kicks Saturday
Ryland converted both field-goal attempts and extra-point tries in the Cardinals' 20-10 preseason win over the Raiders on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Ryland knocked home 23- and 30-yard field goals in the second and fourth quarter, respectively, allowing him to finish the preseason with an unblemished resume. The 2023 fourth-round pick of the Patriots was 4-for-4 with a long of 50 yards on field goals during the three-game exhibition slate and also went 5-for-5 on PATs, and he heads into the regular season as the Cardinals' starting placekicker after impressing in place of an injured Matt Prater down the stretch in 2024.
Jan 16, 2025
Steady in place of Prater in 2024
Ryland netted 28 of 32 field-goal attempts and 26 of 27 point-after tries in 13 appearances during the 2024 season.
ANALYSIS
Ryland lost a job battle against Joey Slye at the end of August in New England, but he was called upon by Arizona in early October to step in for the injured Matt Prater (knee) and ended up kicking for the rest of the Cardinals' campaign. His performance was a far cry from that of his rookie season with the Patriots, when he went just 16-for-25 on FGAs (along with 24-for-25 on PATs) in 17 contests. Ryland's 8.5 points per game ranked tied for sixth among kickers to play in at least nine outings, and he's now the only kicker under contract for Arizona next season. Considering his overall success in 2024, he may not face any competition for the starting gig this offseason.
Dec 29, 2024
Has extra-point attempt blocked
Ryland connected on a 28-yard field-goal attempt but missed his lone extra-point try during Saturday's 13-9 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Ryland didn't have a kicking attempt until the third quarter, when the Cardinals finished a 13-play drive with a one-yard touchdown pass from Kyler Murray to Trey McBride. Unfortunately for Ryland his extra-point attempt was blocked, which kept the deficit at four points. He converted on a 28-yard chip shot early in the fourth quarter, but he didn't kick another field goal, as the Cardinals were in need of a touchdown to take the lead. It's unclear whether Ryland will serve as Arizona's kicker for the regular-season finale against San Francisco since Matt Prater (knee) has been designated to return from injured reserve.
Dec 26, 2024
Retains kicking job for Week 17
Ryland will remain Arizona's kicker for Saturday's game against the Rams with the Cardinals ruling Matt Prater (knee) out for the contest.
ANALYSIS
Prater took part in practices for the second week in a row after having his 21-day evaluation window opened Dec. 18, but since the 40-year-old has yet to upgrade to full participation, the Cardinals are opting to keep him on injured reserve for at least one more game. His continued absence sets the stage for Ryland to once again handle kicking duties for Arizona. Ryland is coming off a 12-point performance in the Week 16 loss to the Panthers that was highlighted by a game-tying 58-yard field goal that sent the game to overtime.
Dec 23, 2024
Sends game into overtime
Ryland went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and made all three of his extra-point tries during the Cardinals' 36-30 overtime loss to the Panthers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Ryland once again served as the Cardinals' placekicker Sunday due to Matt Prater (knee) not being activated off injured reserve. Ryland's biggest kick came as time expired in the fourth quarter, when he nailed a 58-yard field-goal try to send the game into overtime and to keep Arizona's slim playoff hopes alive. In the five games since the Cardinals' Week 11 bye, Ryland has gone 14-for-17 on field-goal attempts and 8-for-8 on extra-point tries. It's unclear whether Ryland or Prater will handle kicking duties in the Cardinals' Week 17 game against the Rams on Saturday, Dec. 28.
Dec 16, 2024
Perfect in win
Ryland made all three of his field-goal tries and converted all three of his extra-point attempts during Sunday's 30-17 win versus the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Ryland converted a 49-yard attempt on Arizona's first drive of Sunday's contest, and that seemed to help him find a rhythm after looking questionable during the last few games prior. He'll be looking to keep it going in Week 16 when the Cardinals travel to take on Carolina's porous defense.
Dec 9, 2024
Misses one in loss
Ryland made his only point-after attempt and missed one of two field-goal tries in Sunday's 30-18 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Ryland was good from 28 yards out but hit the left upright on a 40-yard attempt, that could have brought Arizona within six midway through the fourth quarter. The second-year pro is now 19-for-23 on field-goal attempts this season in nine games, with all four misses coming between 40 and 49 yards. With a Matt Prater (knee) return looming, it's possible Ryland won't be the Cardinals' kicker much longer.
Dec 1, 2024
Season-high point tally Sunday
Ryland connected on five of six field-goal attempts and his sole point-after try during Sunday's 23-22 loss at Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
The Cardinals offense continually stalled in the red zone, affording Ryland successful FGAs from 32, 31, 24, 40 and 23 yards. His only miss, a 45-yard attempt early in the second quarter, ultimately ended up being the difference in the one-point defeat, but Sunday's 16-point outing marked his most productive of the campaign by a large margin (his previous high in a game was 10 points back in Week 5 at San Francisco). Matt Prater, Arizona's primary kicker, hasn't made any notable progress as he resides on injured reserve due to a left knee injury, so Ryland is lined up to continue in his current role next Sunday against the Seahawks.
Nov 25, 2024
Handles all the scoring
Ryland made two of his three field-goal attempts in Sunday's 17-6 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Ryland was successful on 35 and 22-yard FGAs to represent all six points Arizona put on the board Sunday. However, the second-year pro did miss a 47-yard opportunity wide left with just seconds left in the game, which could have pulled the Cardinals within eight. With a Matt Prater (knee) return looming, it's possible this was Ryland's last week as the team's kicker.
Nov 11, 2024
Solid in runaway win
Ryland converted his only field-goal try and made all four of his extra-point attempts during Sunday's 31-6 win versus the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Ryland's only field goal came from just 37 yards out as time expired in the first half, so nothing especially difficult was asked of him in Week 10. With that said, he now hasn't missed a kick since Week 5 and projects as a solid fantasy option for the home stretch of the season after the Cardinals' bye in Week 11.
Nov 5, 2024
Strikes true on all five kicks
Ryland connected on both field-goal attempts and all three point-after tries during Sunday's 29-9 victory over the Bears.
ANALYSIS
With his successful 55-yard field goal in the fourth quarter Sunday, Ryland now has made 50-plus yarders in back-to-back games, and he's so far missed just one kick (a 45-yard FGA that was blocked and returned for a TD in Week 5 at San Francisco) in five games subbing in for the injured Matt Prater (knee). Prater must miss at least one more contest while on injured reserve, so Ryland again is poised to handle placekicking duties for the Cardinals this coming Sunday against the Jets.
Oct 22, 2024
Nails game-winner vs. Chargers
Ryland converted his only field-goal attempt and both extra-point tries during Monday's 17-15 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Ryland's lone field-goal attempt came on the Cardinals' final play of the night, a 32-yarder and his second game-winner of the regular season so far. While filling in for Matt Prater (knee) in Arizona's last three games, Ryland has gone 6-for-7 on field goals and converted all four of his PATs. Prater won't be eligible to come off IR until Week 12 versus Seattle, at the earliest, leaving Ryland in line to start Sunday against the Dolphins and beyond.
Oct 15, 2024
Replaces injured Prater on roster
The Cardinals signed Ryland off their practice squad Tuesday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Arizona had previously elevated Ryland from its practice squad for both of the past two games as a replacement for kicker Matt Prater (knee). Prater knocked down both of his extra-point tries and five of six field-goal attempts between those contests, and he'll now be in line for at least four more games as Arizona's kicker after the Cardinals added him to the 53-man roster and moved Prater to injured reserve Tuesday.
Oct 14, 2024
Makes all three kicks Sunday
Ryland made both field-goal attempts and his only point-after try during Sunday's 34-13 loss in Green Bay.
ANALYSIS
Filling in for Matt Prater (left knee) for a second consecutive game, Ryland was perfect this time around after having a 45-yard FGA blocked and returned for a touchdown during a Week 5 win at San Francisco. Ryland also reverted to the Cardinals' practice squad Monday, per the NFL"s transaction log. With Arizona not playing again until next Monday versus the Chargers, Prater will be given a bit more time than normal to prove his health, but he may need to get back to full participation between Thursday and Saturday to have a chance to play Week 7. Ryland will handle placekicking duties if Prater isn't able to in that contest.
Oct 13, 2024
Set for kicking duties again
Ryland will be the Cardinals' kicker against the Packers on Sunday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With Matt Prater nursing a knee injury, Ryland was elevated from the practice squad Saturday. Prater was deemed inactive Sunday morning, so Ryland will handle kicking duties for a second straight week. Last week, Ryland went 3-for-4 on field-goal tries, with his lone miss coming on a blocked 45-yard attempt.
Oct 12, 2024
Elevated again for Week 6
The Cardinals elevated Ryland from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's Week 6 battle with Green Bay.
ANALYSIS
Regular kicker Matt Prater (knee) is questionable for Sunday, so Ryland provides much-needed insurance in case Prater is unable to go. That was the case last week versus San Francisco, when Ryland took over for the inactive Prater and went 3-for-4 on field-goal tries, with his lone miss being a blocked 45-yard attempt. Ryland's elevation Saturday could be a sign that Prater will be held out again Sunday, though that may not be confirmed until about 90 minutes prior to the 4:00 PM ET kickoff.
Oct 8, 2024
Makes four kicks in place of Prater
Ryland connected on three of four field-goal attempts and his only point-after try during Sunday's 24-23 win at San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Ryland was elevated from the Cardinals' practice squad Saturday to fill in for the injured Matt Prater (left knee) in Week 5, and the former fared well aside from having a 45-yard FGA blocked and returned for a touchdown in the second quarter. On Monday, Ryland reverted to the practice squad, per the NFL's transaction log, after which coach Jonathan Gannon told Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com that the team was taking a wait-and-see approach with Prater. Such comments indicate Ryland may be called upon for place-kicking duties again for Sunday's game in Green Bay if Prater doesn't make enough progress in his recovery.
Oct 6, 2024
Set for kicking duties
Ryland will be the Cardinals kicker against the 49ers on Sunday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Ryland was elevated from the practice squad Saturday due to Matt Prater's (knee) availability being in question for Week 5. With Prater ultimately being inactive, the Maryland product will get the opportunity to handle kicking duties. Ryland was selected in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Patriots but ultimately struggled in his rookie campaign, making just 64 percent of his FGAs, before getting cut by New England in August.
Oct 5, 2024
Elevated ahead of Week 5
The Cardinals elevated Ryland from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Ryland was signed to the Cardinals' practice squad Tuesday to provide insurance in case Matt Prater (knee) is unable to play Sunday against the 49ers. Prater was able to practice Friday as a limited participant, but if his knee injury prevents him from suiting up Sunday, Ryland will serve as the Cardinals' kicker. Ryland went 16-for-25 on field-goal attempts and connected on 24 of 25 extra-point tries with the Patriots in 2023.
Oct 2, 2024
Joins Cardinals' practice squad
The Cardinals signed Ryland to their practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The 2023 fourth-round pick spent his rookie campaign with the Patriots before being waived in late August. Ryland converted on just 16 of his 25 field-goal attempts but missed only one of his 25 point-after tries in 2023. He could be elevated to Arizona's active roster if Matt Prater deals with injury at any point this season.
Aug 27, 2024
Being waived by New England
The Patriots plan to waive Ryland, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Ryland had been competing with Joey Slye, but the 2023 fourth-rounder is now headed to the waiver wire after handling New England's kicking duties last season. If he goes unclaimed, Ryland could potentially join the Patriots' practice squad.
May 2, 2024
Set to compete with veteran kicker
Ryland is slated to face competition from veteran kicker Joey Slye, who is in line to sign with the Patriots, Mark Daniels of masslive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Ryland, who the Patriots took in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, is coming off a rookie campaign in which he made just 64 percent of his field-goal attempts (16 of 25). Though the Maryland product has a strong kicking leg, he'll need to display better accuracy in the coming months in order to hold off the challenge presented by the 28-year-old Slye, who connected on 79.2 percent of his field-goal tries with the Commanders last season.
Jan 10, 2024
Records 72 points this past season
Ryland connected on 16 of his 25 field-goal attempts and 24 of his 25 extra-point tries in 17 games during the 2023 season.
ANALYSIS
The Patriots took Ryland, who logged 72 points in that span, in the fourth round (112th overall) of last April's NFL draft, and the Maryland product took over the team's kicking job ahead of Week 1 following the trade of Nick Folk to the Titans. Accuracy issues and working behind an inconsistent offense limited Ryland's fantasy utility as a rookie, but he'll presumably have an opportunity to continue his role in 2024. That said, when it comes to New England's looming roster overhaul, it wouldn't surprise us to see competition for Ryland brought in ahead of next season.
Jan 1, 2024
Misses lone FG attempt Sunday
Ryland missed his only field-goal attempt and made all three of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 27-21 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Ryland's miss in the contest was from 47 yards out, and overall the rookie kicker has made 15 of his 24 field-goal tries and 24 of his 25 extra point opportunities through 16 games. As the Patriots' season finale against the Jets approaches, Ryland profiles as a risky fantasy lineup option in Week 18.
Dec 25, 2023
Makes game-winner from 56 yards
Ryland made two of his three field-goal attempts and two of three extra-point tries in Sunday's 26-23 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
After missing from 47 yards late in the first half of the contest and then missing an extra point in the third quarter, Ryland came through with seconds left, hitting a game-winning try from a career-high 56 yards. Through 15 games, Ryland has scored 66 points, while hitting 65.2 percent of his field-goal attempts, a pace that has given him limited fantasy utility during his rookie season.
Dec 18, 2023
Misses another kick Sunday
Ryland converted one of his two field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries in Sunday's 27-17 loss versus the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Ryland has now missed three of his last six field-goal tries, and the 41-yarder he hooked to the left in Week 15 was not particularly close. The rookie's struggles thus far combined with the Patriot offense's lack of juice make him a less-than-appealing option at kicker for the rest of the fantasy playoffs.
Dec 8, 2023
Three points Thursday
Ryland made all three of his extra-point tries in Thursday's 21-18 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
For the second game in a row, Ryland didn't record any field-goal attempts, however this time around the Patriots offense showed signs of life (after being shut out in Week 13), which resulted in the kicker's only opportunities Thursday arriving on extra points. Ryland is still not high-percentage fantasy option ahead of New England's Dec. 17 contest against the Chiefs, but the 2023 fourth-rounder has at least maintained his weekly role despite his accuracy issues (12 of 18 on FG tries) through 13 games this season.
Dec 4, 2023
No field-goal tries Sunday
Ryland didn't record any field-goal attempts in Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Heading into Week 13 action, there had been some speculation that Ryland, who had missed 35-yard field-goal tries in consecutive games, could be potentially be replaced as the Patriots' kicker. Though Matthew Wright was added to the team's practice squad, Ryland maintained his role Sunday. Looking ahead to Thursday night's game against the Steelers, the 2023 fourth-rounder is off the fantasy radar considering the continuing struggles of New England's offense.
Nov 27, 2023
Misses late field-goal try Sunday
Ryland missed his only field-goal attempt in Sunday's 10-7 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Ryland's miss was a 35-yard try with six seconds remaining that would have tied Sunday's contest. The rookie kicker also missed a 35-yard attempt in the Patriots' 10-6 loss to the Colts in Week 10. PerZack Cox of NESN.com, coach Bill Belichick noted his frustration with Ryland's recent performance, while at the same time acknowledging the 2023 fourth-rounder's ability. "Chad is a very talented player," Belichick said Monday. "But this is two weeks in a row that we basically missed extra points. It's not good enough." Ryland will look to bounce back this coming weekend against the Chargers, but at this stage he's not a reliable fantasy option, given his accuracy issues (66.7 percent on 18 attempts) and the overall state of (2-9) New England's offense.
Nov 13, 2023
Makes two field goals Sunday
Ryland made two of his three field-goal attempts in Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Ryland's successful tries Sunday were from 37 and 24 yards, while his miss came from 35 yards out. As the Patriots head into their bye week, Ryland has made 12 of his 17 field goal attempts through 10 games, while having recorded 49 points in that span. Given that he's kicking behind an inconsistent offense, Ryland's fantasy upside appears modest ahead of his team's Nov. 26 contest against the Giants.
Nov 6, 2023
Limited as offense still struggling
Ryland converted his only field-goal attempt and both of his two extra-point tries in Sunday's 20-17 loss versus Washington.
ANALYSIS
New England's offense failed to crack 20 points for the second consecutive game in Week 9, and Ryland again saw few opportunities as a result. He has struggled on longer kicks so far this season, and as long as the Patriots continue to fail to move the ball, there are better fantasy options at kicker.
Oct 30, 2023
Mostly quiet as offense sputters
Ryland converted his only field-goal attempt and both of his two extra-point tries in Sunday's 31-17 loss at Miami.
ANALYSIS
Ryland did all he could in Week 8, but with New England only managing to accumulate 218 total yards of offense on the day, that just didn't amount to much. For his part, he has looked solid on short kicks and shaky on longer ones through eight games in 2023. The Patriots should have an easier time moving the football in Week 9 when they host a Washington defense that's allowed 28.5 points per game this season.
Oct 23, 2023
11 points in Week 7
Ryland made all three of his field-goal attempts in Sunday's 29-25 win over the Bills, en route to recording a season-high 11 points.
ANALYSIS
Ryland now has 33 points over his first seven games as a pro, and his fantasy upside going forward hinges on how the Patriots' offense (which has been inconsistent this season) moves the ball in the coming weeks. Next up for the team is a Week 8 divisional matchup against the Dolphins.
Oct 16, 2023
Makes lone FG attempt Sunday
Ryland made his only field-goal attempt (from 43 yards) in Sunday's 21-17 loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Ryland also made both of his extra-point tries Sunday and through six contests to date the rookie kicker has compiled a total of 22 points. Until the 1-5 Patriots pick up the pace on offense, Ryland will profile as a low-end fantasy option.
Oct 9, 2023
Misses lone attempt Sunday
Ryland missed his only field-goal attempt in Sunday's 34-0 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Following his miss from 48-yards Sunday, Ryland is now 4-of-8 on field-goal attempts through his first five NFL games. Though the 2023 fourth-rounder isn't in danger of losing his job as the Patriots kicker, he'll profile as a low-percentage fantasy option until both his accuracy and the team's offense show signs of improvement.
Oct 2, 2023
Rookie misses again
Ryland made one of his two field-goal attempts in Sunday's 38-3 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Ryland made his first attempt from 29 yards out to tie the game in the first quarter. However, he didn't take the field again until late in the fourth quarter to attempt a 52-yard field goal, which he missed wide right. The rookie fourth-round selection is now 4-of-7 on FGAs this season while missing 2-of-3 attempts of 50-plus yards. Next up for Ryland is the Saints in Week 5.
Sep 25, 2023
Makes two of four FG tries Sunday
Ryland made two of his four field-goal attempts in Sunday's 15-10 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Ryland, who notched seven points in the contest, made field goals from 48 and 51 yards Sunday, with his misses coming from 48 and 57 yards. Per Zack Cox of NESN,windy and rainy conditions didn't help the rookie kicker's cause, with coach Bill Belichick giving Ryland a vote of confidence following the contest. "We need to have a cleaner operation," Belichick said of the team's Week 3 kicking game. "But I thought (Ryland) showed mental toughness coming back and making that kick in the third quarter after the one at the half that just wasn't a great operation. He did a good job for us."

Five points in Week 2
Ryland made his only field-goal attempt (from 49 yards) in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Ryland also made both of his extra-point tries Sunday and now has a total of seven points through his first two games as a pro. As the season progresses there will be weeks where the 2023 fourth-rounder has more scoring opportunities, but for now Ryland is a speculative fantasy option.

Two points in opener
Ryland made both of his extra-point tries in Sunday's season-opening 25-20 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
With Nick Folk having been traded to the Titans at the end of August, Ryland is entrenched as the Patriots' kicker this season and will thus have plenty of weeks where he'll be called upon more. The 2023 fourth-rounder's next chance to log a field-goal attempt will arrive this coming weekend when the Patriots host the Dolphins.

Lands New England's kicking job
With Nick Folk having been traded to the Titans on Tuesday, Ryland is slated to open the season as the Patriots' kicker, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The Patriots took Ryland in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, so it would have been surprising if he didn't land the job. While Folk was a steady and consistent veteran option during his stint with the franchise, Ryland has a bigger kicking leg, which should prove to be an asset both on long-range attempts and on kickoffs.

Competing with Nick Folk
Ryland connected on an extra-point try in Friday's 23-7 preseason loss to the Titans.
ANALYSIS
As Tuesday's roster cut-downs approach, Ryland and veteran Nick Folk are still in the Patriots' kicker mix and remain in what coach Bill Belichick noted Friday was a "pretty tight competition," Mark Daniels of masslive.com reports. Given that the Patriots selected Ryland in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, it would be surprising to see him let go, but with both kickers having had "really good camps," per Belichick, the team has a tough decision to make at the position, with Daniels suggesting that both players making the initial cut is a possible outcome.

Inks contract with New England
Ryland has agreed to terms with the Patriots, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that Ryland's deal is on track to be a four-year $4.626 million pact. Though the Patriots still currently roster veteran Nick Folk, given that the team traded up eight spots in order to select the Maryland product in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft, it's expected that New England will move forward this season with Ryland as the franchise's next kicker.

New kicker in New England
The Patriots selected Ryland in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 112nd overall.
ANALYSIS
The Patriots traded up with the Jets to make Ryland the second kicker selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. It's a curious decision given Nick Folk still remains on New England's roster, but with one year remaining on the two-year extension he signed back in March of 2022, it seems clear the Patriots are planning ahead when it comes to their specialists. Ryland transferred to Maryland in his final collegiate season and converted 19 of his 23 field-goal attempts, but he made just three of his six tries from 50-plus yards out.
