The kicker did however push a 43-yard try wide right in the third quarter, missing a field-goal attempt for the third week in a row. The missed kick would come back to haunt the Cardinals in the three-point loss, and Ryland has now gone 18-for-23 on field-goal tries, including 4-for-6 from 50-plus yards, over 12 contests this year.

Ryland didn't have a kicking attempt until the third quarter, when the Cardinals finished a 13-play drive with a one-yard touchdown pass from Kyler Murray to Trey McBride. It's unclear whether Ryland will serve as Arizona's kicker for the regular-season finale against San Francisco since Matt Prater (knee) has been designated to return from injured reserve.

Ryland will remain Arizona's kicker for Saturday's game against the Rams with the Cardinals ruling Matt Prater (knee) out for the contest.

Prater took part in practices for the second week in a row after having his 21-day evaluation window opened Dec. 18, but since the 40-year-old has yet to upgrade to full participation, the Cardinals are opting to keep him on injured reserve for at least one more game. Heading into Week 13 action, there had been some speculation that Ryland, who had missed 35-yard field-goal tries in consecutive games, could be potentially be replaced as the Patriots' kicker. Though Matthew Wright was added to the team's practice squad, Ryland maintained his role Sunday. Looking ahead to Thursday night's game against the Steelers, the 2023 fourth-rounder is off the fantasy radar considering the continuing struggles of New England's offense.

Ryland has agreed to terms with the Patriots, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

The report notes that Ryland's deal is on track to be a four-year $4.626 million pact. Though the Patriots still currently roster veteran Nick Folk, given that the team traded up eight spots in order to select the Maryland product in the fourth round (112th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft, it's expected that New England will move forward this season with Ryland as the franchise's next kicker.

It's a curious decision given Nick Folk still remains on New England's roster, but with one year remaining on the two-year extension he signed back in March of 2022, it seems clear the Patriots are planning ahead when it comes to their specialists. Ryland transferred to Maryland in his final collegiate season and converted 19 of his 23 field-goal attempts, but he made just three of his six tries from 50-plus yards out.
