C.J. Stroud Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Bills vs Texans game on Thursday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 17, 2025
Listed DNP on Monday
Stroud (concussion) didn't participate in Monday's walkthrough.
ANALYSIS
Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reported earlier Monday that Stroud remained in the concussion protocol, and his lack of activity to begin Week 12 prep indicates that he hasn't made any tangible progress in his recovery. Stroud thus appears to be trending toward a third absence in a row Thursday against the Bills, which would pave the way for Davis Mills to start a third consecutive game. The Texans may confirm as much when they post their final injury report of the week Wednesday.

Remains in concussion protocol
Stroud is still in the NFL's five-step concussion protocol Monday and his availability for Thursday's home game against the Bills remains uncertain, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud has missed two straight games and now faces a short week of preparation before Houston's appearance on Thursday Night Football, and he has yet to resume practicing. As such, if Stroud remains a non-participant Monday, it will forebode Davis Mills drawing another start. Even if Stroud gets back on the practice field Monday there are no guarantees he'll be available Thursday, as before returning to game action the 2023 first-round pick will need to gain full clearance from the concussion protocol, including from an independent neurologist.
Nov 15, 2025
Status for Week 12 uncertain
Stroud, who has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup versus Tennessee due to a concussion, may not be ready to return in Thursday's Week 12 game against Buffalo, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud suffered the concussion in Week 9 against Denver and missed last Sunday's win over Jacksonville. He'll sit out a second straight contest this week, and he may miss a third game in Week 12. It doesn't help that the Texans will be on a short week, as they'll next play the Bills on Thursday Night Football. For as long as Stroud remains out, Davis Mills figures to start behind center for Houston.
Nov 13, 2025
Ruled out for Week 11
The Texans announced Thursday that Stroud (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans, leaving Davis Mills in position to draw another start, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud will miss a second consecutive game as he continues to work his way through the NFL's concussion protocol. He has yet to resume practicing, and per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston is still experiencing symptoms. Stroud's next chance to play will come Week 12 versus the Bills on Thursday Night Football, but before being eligible to retake the field he'll need to fully clear the concussion protocol, which includes undergoing evaluation by an independent neurologist.
Nov 13, 2025
Not practicing Thursday
Stroud (concussion) isn't practicing Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Wilson, Stroud, who is in the NFL's concussion protocol is still experiencing symptoms, a context that has Davis Mills trending toward starting at QB for the Texans in Sunday's game against the Titans. Friday's injury report will reveal whether Stroud heads into the weekend with any chance to suit up versus Tennessee, or is ruled out in advance of Houston's upcoming short week ahead of a Nov. 20 contest against the Bills.
Nov 12, 2025
Not practicing Wednesday
Stroud (concussion) isn't practicing Wednesday, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bien-Aime notes that Stroud still had concussion symptoms earlier this week, after missing Sunday's win over the Jaguars. There are a still a few days to make progress through the concussion protocol, but early signs point to Davis Mills making another start this Sunday at Tennessee.
Nov 12, 2025
Progressing entering Week 11
Stroud remains in the concussion protocol but was in the building Monday as Houston prepares for Week 11 against Tennessee, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud, who sat out last week's win over the Jaguars, suffered a concussion in the Texans' loss to the Broncos in Week 9. He'll need to practice twice without exhibiting any concussion symptoms. The club will hold practices Wednesday, Thursday, a walk-through Friday and a final practice Saturday.
Nov 5, 2025
Won't play Sunday
Coach DeMeco Ryans noted Wednesday that Stroud (concussion) "will be out" Sunday against the Jaguars, Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network report.
ANALYSIS
With Stroud in the NFL's concussion protocol and not slated to be available this weekend, Davis Mills is in line to draw the start at QB for Houston on Sunday. Stroud's next chance to see game action will occur in Week 11, when the Texans play Tennessee on the road.
Nov 5, 2025
No practice Wednesday
Stroud (concussion) is not participating in Wednesday's practice, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud's lack of participation is no surprise, given that he was forced out of Houston's loss to the Broncos in Week 9 early due to a concussion. The starting quarterback will need to fully clear the NFL's concussion protocol before returning to game action, making his status for Sunday's divisional matchup against the Jaguars uncertain at best. Davis Mills will stand to start in place of Stroud if the franchise QB can't go.
Nov 2, 2025
Not returning to Sunday's contest
Stroud (concussion) won't return to Sunday's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Before sustaining a concussion and being replaced by Davis Mills, Stroud completed six of his 10 pass attempts for 79 yards and carried twice for 12 yards. Stroud will now look to clear concussion protocol ahead of next Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Nov 2, 2025
Exits Sunday's game
Stroud, who was forced out of Sunday's game against the Broncos, is being evaluated for a concussion.
ANALYSIS
Prior to exiting the contest, Stroud had completed six of his 10 pass attempts for 79 yards and carried twice for 12 yards. In his absence, Davis Mills is in at quarterback for the Texans.
Oct 26, 2025
Stellar performance in win
Stroud completed 30 of 39 passes for 318 yards with two touchdowns and one interception and rushed seven times for 30 yards in the Texans' 26-15 win over the 49ers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Stroud was in a zone throughout most of the afternoon following a difficult performance on the road against the Seahawks on Monday night to close out Week 7. The third-year signal-caller was working without Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring), but he recorded 14 of his completions to a trio of wideouts playing elevated roles in Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins. Stroud's pair of scoring tosses went to Hutchinson (30 yards) and Higgins (12 yards) as well, and his yardage total was a season-high figure. Stroud now has multiple touchdown passes in three of the last four games, but he has an unenviable task on tap in Week 9 in the form of a home matchup against the Broncos.
Oct 21, 2025
Reverts to mediocre form on MNF
Stroud completed 23 of 49 pass attempts for 229 yards, one touchdown and one interception while taking two carries for 25 yards in Monday's 27-19 loss to Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Fresh off of a season-high, four-touchdown performance against the Ravens, Stroud reverted to inconsistent pocket play in a deflating loss to the Seahawks. The 23-year-old failed to complete 50 percent of his passes while finishing as many touchdown drives as the dominant defense playing behind him. Stroud didn't get much help from his ground game, actually finishing Monday's loss as the Texans' leading rusher ahead of Woody Marks (10-15-0) and Nick Chubb (5-16-0). He also lost top wideout Nico Collins early in the fourth quarter to a concussion, a situation worth monitoring ahead of next Sunday's tilt against the 49ers. Stroud's stock would suffer further in Week 8 if Collins is unable to clear the league's concussion protocol.
Oct 5, 2025
Crushes short-handed Ravens
Stroud completed 23 of 27 passes for 244 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 44-10 win over the Ravens. He added one rush for 30 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud faced a thinned version of the Baltimore defense that was missing Kyle Hamilton (groin), Marlon Humphrey (calf) and Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring) in its secondary alone. He took advantage of the good spot, throwing more than three touchdowns for only the second time in his career while completing three passes of at least 20 yards. Stroud was ultimately pulled early in the fourth quarter due to the game being a blowout, but it was a positive fantasy performance and also a good showing for the Houston offense overall.
Sep 30, 2025
Growing comfortable with new scheme
Stroud's pre-snap reads were instrumental to the 24-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Higgins in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 26-0 win over the Titans in Week 4, Sam Warren of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Warren gets into the weeds, outlining the pre-snap reads, adjustments and execution of the play, but the main point is that Stroud may have found his groove in the new offense. That offense, input by new offensive coordinator Nick Caley, involves Stroud taking more control. It may have taken three-and-a-half games to click in, as the quarterback completed 11-of-13 attempts (eight different targets) for 144 yards while directing touchdown drives on successive possessions from late in the third quarter and into the fourth. Following an ugly 0-3 start and head coach DeMeco Ryans' defense of Caley, Stroud's intuition and execution of the offense may extend forward to Week 5 on the road against the Ravens.
Sep 28, 2025
Improves against Tennessee
Stroud completed 22 of 28 passes for 233 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 26-0 win over the Titans. He added four rushes for 11 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud took some time to find his rhythm, totaling only 82 yards on 14 pass attempts at halftime. He looked far more comfortable in the final two quarters, going 12-for-14 for 151 yards -- highlighted by three completions of at least 20 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Higgins. While Stroud's final line wasn't outstanding, it was still an encouraging result as he took advantage of a favorable matchup to post season-high marks in touchdowns and passing yardage.
Sep 21, 2025
Another pair of picks in loss
Stroud completed 25 of 38 passes with one touchdown and two interceptions and rushed four times for 22 yards in the Texans' 17-10 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Another sluggish day for the Texans offense saw Stroud toss his second and third interceptions of the season on the Jaguars' 19 and four-yard line, respectively, in the second half. The second pick was a true back-breaker, as it came with 27 seconds remaining and Houston seemingly on the verge of going in for a game-tying touchdown. Stroud and his teammates on that side of the ball have looked out of sorts through three games, albeit against the tough defenses of the Rams, Buccaneers and Jaguars. However, the going doesn't get any easier in Week 4, as Houston travels to Baltimore to face the Ravens next Sunday.
Sep 15, 2025
Slight improvement in MNF loss
Stroud completed 13 of 24 pass attempts for 207 yards and a touchdown while rushing four times for 27 yards in Monday's 20-19 loss to Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Stroud didn't waste much time scoring the Texans' first touchdown of the season after failing to get his team into the end zone against the Rams in Week 1. The 24-year-old dialed up WR Nico Collins for a 27-yard score on Houston's opening drive, but that would end up being his only touchdown of the contest. Stroud failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity on the opponent's one-yard line early in the fourth quarter when he missed on two consecutive throws before turning the ball over on downs. With marginal yardage totals (197.5 passing yards/game) and just one touchdown to one interception through two starts, Stroud has played his way out of starting consideration in standard 1QB formats ahead of Sunday's tilt against Jacksonville.
Sep 7, 2025
Ugly start to 2025
Stroud completed 19 of 27 pass attempts for 188 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while taking five carries for 32 yards in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Stroud struggled to finish drives Sunday, leading three lengthy possessions that ended in field goal attempts. A second-half interception cemented the signal-caller's poor outing and a loss to begin the 2025 campaign. Stroud and his fantasy managers were hoping for a better start after the offense petered out down the stretch last season. Houston will have an extra day to figure things out offensively before hosting the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football in Week 2.
Aug 23, 2025
Held out Saturday
Stroud and most other projected starters won't play in Saturday's preseason game against Detroit, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
The list of rested players also includes RB Nick Chubb, WRs Nico Collins and Christian Kirk, and TEs Dalton Schultz and Cade Stover. They'll soon turn their attention to a Week 1 road matchup with the Rams, a team with impressive pass rushers but major questions marks in the secondary. Stroud is looking to bounce back from a sophomore slump, with the help of new offensive coordinator Nick Caley and a remade WR corps (after Collins).
Aug 16, 2025
Sharp on two drives Saturday
Stroud completed six of eight passes for 44 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in the Texans' 20-3 preseason win over the Panthers on Saturday afternoon.
ANALYSIS
Stroud played the first two series, getting his first taste of running new coordinator Nick Caley's offense in game action. The third-year signal-caller was impressive with his opportunity, benefitting from good protection and hitting Nico Collins with a fourth-down touchdown pass of five yards to cap off a crisp 11-play, 60-yard march during which he completed passes to four different targets and close out his afternoon. Stroud certainly got quality work in Saturday, so it remains to be seen if he'll log any snaps during the preseason finale against the Lions on the road next Saturday.
Aug 16, 2025
Getting start vs. Panthers
Stroud will start Saturday's preseason game against Carolina, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud sat out Houston's preseason debut against the Vikings last week, but he'll get an opportunity to take on a handful of exhibition reps versus the Panthers. It will be intriguing to see an early preview of Stroud behind his new offensive line, and alongside a revamped wide receiver corps headlined by returning No. 1 option Nico Collins, plus new arrivals Christian Kirk, Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. It's not a guarantee that either of Higgens or Noel, both rookies out of Iowa State, will handle any first-team reps alongside Stroud, however.
Aug 9, 2025
Not on track to start Saturday
Stroud is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
With the Texans resting a number of starters Saturday, Davis Mills will start at QB in place of Stroud. The third-year signal-caller's next chance to see game action will arrive Aug. 16 against the Panthers.

Transforms body
Stroud made it a point during the offseason to rework his body after a sophomore season of regression in 2024, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports. "I've been working really hard on getting my body right -- losing body fat, trying to be faster, stronger," Stroud said. "And it went really well. ... [Working] pocket mobility, running out the pocket, throwing the rock. Everything kind of works hand in hand."
ANALYSIS
Stroud looks to rebound from his second NFL season, when he saw dips in passing yards and touchdowns while throwing seven more interceptions than in his rookie season. It's a hopeful sign that Stroud is putting in the work this offseason, but there are other areas of the offense that needs to improve in 2025. Houston ranked 22nd in yards per game (319.7) and 19th in points per game (21.9) while managing to win the AFC South for a second consecutive season. That drop cost offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik his job, as the Texans replaced him with Nick Caley, who was the pass game coordinator and tight ends coach for the Rams last year. In addition to what will be a new playbook, the offensive line needs to be better. Stroud was sacked 52 times during the regular season and taken down 11 more times during the playoffs.

Throwing at mandatory minicamp
Stroud (shoulder) is throwing at the start of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud is on the field for the start of 7-on-7 drills with the first-team offense, per Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle, and a video recorded by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston shows the third-year quarterback participating in padded throwing drills without any apparent discomfort. Coach DeMeco Ryans consistently downplayed Stroud's right shoulder soreness during voluntary OTAs, saying he had "no concerns," and the 2023 first-round pick is indeed now ready to resume building chemistry with a new wide receiver corps that adds veteran Christian Kirk and rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel behind No. 1 option Nico Collins.
Jun 3, 2025
Managing sore throwing shoulder
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said Tuesday that Stroud is dealing with "general soreness" related to his right throwing shoulder, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud was kept from throwing early at voluntary OTAs due to what was initially called a minor pectoral injury, but Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston now reports the third-year quarterback is dealing with muscle tightness in his throwing shoulder. Still, Ryans repeated that there are "no concerns" with Stroud, per Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com, and that the team is "taking extra precaution with him, but he'll be good to go." Stroud still has ample time, roughly a month and a half, to get fully healthy for the start of training camp. The most notable consequence of his current absence from practice is missing early opportunities to build chemistry with new wideouts Christian Kirk, Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, but the majority of such reps will be taken during training camp and the preseason. At that stage, Stroud will also face the challenge of adapting to a new-look offensive line that may take a step backwards, even after struggling in 2024, due to the trade of Laremy Tunsil to Washington.
May 30, 2025
Managing minor pectoral issue
Stroud isn't currently throwing during voluntary team activities due to a tight pectoral, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud watched from the sideline Friday during practice while backup quarterback Davis Mills ran the offense. Per Wilson, Stroud's injury isn't considered a long-term problem, and the star QB could increase his activity as soon as next week. Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley downplayed the issue Friday, saying that there are "no concerns whatsoever" about Stroud, echoing what coach DeMeco Ryans stated earlier in the week.

Can't escape Kansas City pass rush
Stroud completed 19 of 28 passes for 245 yards without a touchdown or an interception in Saturday's 23-14 divisional-round loss to Kansas City. He added 42 rushing yards on six carries.
ANALYSIS
The story of the game was the Texans;' offensive line's inability to protect Stroud. The second-year QB was brought down eight times, three times by George Karlaftis alone, and he needed help getting off the field after the last sack late in the fourth quarter while apparently dealing with a foot or ankle injury. He did return for the final play however, a kneel-down with seven seconds left, so Stroud would seem to be OK. His overall body of work took a step back from his rookie campaign, and Stroud completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 3,727 yards and a 20:12 TD:INT over 17 regular-season games while also being sacked 52 times -- 14 more than in 2023. Injuries to his wide receiver corps played a role in Stroud's regression, but expect Houston to focus on upgrading his protection this offseason as well.
Jan 11, 2025
Tops 300 total yards in playoff win
Stroud completed 22 of 33 passes for 282 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Saturday's 32-12 win over the Chargers. He added six rushes for 42 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud took some time to get the offense moving as a lost fumble by John Metchie and an interception ended a few of Houston's drives early on. However, Stroud hit his stride on a possession late in the second quarter, connecting on long passes of 34 and 37 yards before delivering a 13-yard touchdown to Nico Collins. That was his only score of the game, but Stroud put together an efficient performance the rest of the way to earn the second postseason victory of his career.
Jan 5, 2025
Leads one effective drive
Stroud completed all six of his pass attempts for 50 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-14 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
The Texans entered Week 18 locked into the fourth seed in the AFC, so Stroud played for only one drive. He ended a disappointing season in strong fashion, completing four of his passes to Nico Collins -- including a two-yard touchdown. Stroud and the Texans will now await a home matchup against either the Steelers or Chargers in the first round of the playoffs.
Jan 1, 2025
Banged up entering Week 18
Stroud admitted to being banged up Tuesday as the Texans prepare for a Week 18 in Tennessee, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans acknowledged Stroud is dealing with soreness as many players in the NFL are at this point of the season. The quarterback practiced Monday, and it looks like he'll be available to play Sunday, although Houston is locked in as the fourth seed for the playoffs and can't improve its position. Ryans suggested that all players healthy enough to suit up will play, including Stroud. The coach also acknowledged the team needs to play better following a 31-2 loss to the Ravens last week, which could impact his decision to have Stroud get on the field for at least a portion of the regular-season finale.
Dec 25, 2024
Offense shut out Wednesday
Stroud completed 17 of 31 pass attempts for 185 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while adding seven rushing yards on his only attempt in Wednesday's 31-2 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Stroud never looked settled in the pocket against Baltimore, missing a handful of short passes to open receivers that doomed several offensive drives. The slumping sophomore was forced to miss one play at the end of the first half after losing feeling in his throwing arm following a sack. Stroud promptly returned to action on the ensuing play, but he still couldn't figure out any answers to the Ravens' swarming defense in the second half. The Texans already locked up first place in a struggling AFC South division in 2024, but Stroud and this offense figure to see action in Week 18 against the Titans following Wednesday's horrid display.
Dec 21, 2024
Two TDs, two INTs in Week 16 loss
Stroud completed 23 of 39 passes for 244 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Saturday's 27-19 loss to the Chiefs. He added two rushing attempts for 23 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud bounced back from an interception on the opening drive by driving the Texans into the red zone before settling for a field goal on the second possession and finally breaking through for a 10-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Schultz on the third drive. He was picked off again late in the first half, which helped the Chiefs take a 17-10 lead into the locker room. Stroud then threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Tank Dell in the third quarter, on which Dell suffered a serious knee injury which left the quarterback visibly distraught. Houston's offense seemed shaken the rest of the way and didn't get particularly close to tying the game down the stretch despite it being a one-score game the entire fourth quarter. Stroud will have to get by with limited talent at wide receiver behind Nico Collins on Christmas against a beatable Baltimore secondary.
Dec 15, 2024
Tosses pair of TDs in win
Stroud completed 18 of 26 passes for 131 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and added four yards on six rushes in the Texans' 20-12 win over the Dolphins on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Stroud salvaged a performance that featured his second-lowest passing yardage total of the season with a pair of six-yard touchdown passes to Nico Collins in the second and third quarters, respectively. Otherwise, the talented second-year signal-caller scuffled against an aggressive and talented Dolphins defense that sacked him four times. Stroud has a pair of multi-touchdown-pass efforts within a three-game span for only the second time all season heading into a Week 16 Saturday afternoon road showdown against the Chiefs.
Dec 1, 2024
Solid performance in Week 13 win
Stroud completed 22 of 34 passes for 242 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions and added five rushes for seven yards in the Texans' 23-20 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Stroud put together a solid performance that saw him spread the ball around to seven different targets and put together his first interception-free effort in the last four games. Stroud connected with Dalton Schultz from 22 yards out early in the fourth quarter for his only touchdown of the game, and he's now thrown for at least 232 yards in four consecutive contests while generating a 4:5 TD:INT in that same span. Stroud and the Texans next host the Dolphins for a Week 15 matchup on Sunday, Dec. 15 following a Week 14 bye.
Nov 24, 2024
Inconsistent showing in loss
Stroud completed 20 of 33 passes for 247 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 32-27 loss to the Titans. He added three rushes for 18 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud took advantage of excellent field position to throw for a 19-yard touchdown on his first pass attempt of the game. He continued his strong start by connecting with Nico Collins and Tank Dell for explosive gains of 54 and 39 yards, while also connecting with Collins for a five-yard touchdown pass -- all of which came prior to halftime. However, Stroud was sacked four times in the second half and picked up just 98 passing yards on 16 attempts, leading to a disappointing loss. Positively, Stroud threw for multiple touchdowns for the first time since Week 5.
Nov 18, 2024
Solid showing in prime time win
Stroud completed 23 of 34 passes for 257 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and rushed three times for 26 yards in the Texans' 34-10 win over the Cowboys on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
Stroud didn't have to do an inordinate amount through the air with Joe Mixon once again putting together a dominant performance that included three rushing TDs. The second-year signal-caller still furnished a solid yardage total and connected with eight different targets, including on four occasions with the returning Nico Collins. Stroud's yardage total was his second highest since Week 5, and he'll next take aim at the Titans' defense in a Week 12 home divisional clash.
Nov 11, 2024
Stalls late in loss
Stroud completed 19 of 33 passes for 232 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 26-23 loss to the Lions. He added one rush for five yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud was in complete control in the first half, and his form was on display during Houston's final drive before halftime when he went 4-for-6 for 66 yards and a 15-yard touchdown. However, he struggled in the final two quarters, when he went 5-for-13 for 68 yards and a pair of picks. Overall, Stroud has now failed to record multiple touchdowns in four consecutive games while topping 250 passing yards just once in that span, limiting his fantasy appeal.
Nov 10, 2024
Week 10 O-line adjustments
In an effort to provide better protection for Stroud, the Texans are moving center Juice Scruggs to left guard, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Jarrett Patterson will step in as the starting center.
ANALYSIS
Stroud was sacked a season-high eight times and suffered another 11 hit in last week's loss to the Jets. For the season, the quarterback has absorbed 30 sacks, second most in the NFL. To prevent more abuse from defensive lines after the team placed starting left guard Kenyon Green (shoulder) on injured reserve, the Texans feel Scruggs can focus on his blocking assignments without having to make line calls on protection adjustments. That duty now falls to Patterson, a 2023 sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame, who is regarded as a cerebral, technique-strong lineman with a keen understanding of pass-rush schemes.
Oct 31, 2024
Miserable night in loss
Stroud completed 11 of 30 passes for 191 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed eight times for 59 yards in the Texans' 21-13 loss to the Jets on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble and failed to bring in his only target.
ANALYSIS
For the second time in three games, Stroud was under 200 passing yards and a 50.0 percent completion rate. In Thursday's instance, he also was constantly harassed to the tune of eight sacks, including one that resulted in a fumble deep in Jets territory, and 11 hits overall. The second-year signal-caller was naturally down yet another key weapon in Stefon Diggs (IR, knee), leaving Tank Dell (six receptions, 126 yards) to garner the majority of Stroud's attention. Despite the unfavorable end result Thursday, brighter days should be ahead beginning with a Week 10 Sunday night home matchup against the Lions, considering Nico Collins (hamstring) is expected to be activated from injured reserve ahead of the interconference clash.
Oct 27, 2024
Resurgent yardage total Sunday
Stroud completed 25 of 37 passes for 285 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions and added one rush for minus-4 yards in the Texans' 23-20 win over the Colts on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Stroud was coming off a career-low 86 passing yards in a Week 7 loss to the Packers, but he bounced back with his third-highest total of the season. The second-year signal-caller connected with Tank Dell for his one touchdown pass, hitting the second-year wideout from seven yards out late in the first half, and he recorded completions to eight different players overall. Stroud will still be without top wideout Nico Collins (hamstring) for at least one more game, and he'll have a short turnaround before doing battle with the Jets' talented secondary in a Week 9 Halloween road matchup Thursday night that he may not have Stefon Diggs (knee) for either.
Oct 20, 2024
Dreadful in Week 7 loss
Stroud completed 10 of 21 passes for 86 yards, without a touchdown or turnover, in Sunday's 24-22 loss to the Packers. He added five rushing attempts for 19 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud had just 44 passing yards in the first half, but the Texans took a 19-14 lead into the locker room thanks to two Joe Mixon touchdown runs and two interceptions of Jordan Love by the defense. Houston's quarterback stayed cold with 42 passing yards after halftime, but a Ka'imi Fairbairn field goal with 1:44 remaining gave the Texans a 22-21 lead, only for the Packers to win it with a field goal of their own on the last play of the game. This game was there for the taking as the Texans won the turnover battle 3-0, but Stroud's struggles led to Houston's second loss of the season. Stroud has 21 touchdown passes in 11 career regular-season home games and only 12 touchdown passes in 11 road games, so he's likely to bounce back in Week 8 at home against the Colts.
Oct 13, 2024
No Nico, no problem
Stroud completed 20 of 31 passes for 192 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 41-21 win over the Patriots. He added three rushing attempts for seven yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud was unfazed by the absence of leading receiver Nico Collins (hamstring), capping Houston's first two drives with touchdown passes of two yards to Tank Dell and 10 yards to Joe Mixon. The second-year quarterback was unlucky on his second-quarter interception, which bounced out of Dalton Schultz's hands in the end zone and went right to a Patriots defender, but Stroud bounced back with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs in the third quarter. Houston rode the running game and defense from there in a game that was never in doubt, and Stroud got to savor the victory from the sideline while Davis Mills came in for mop-up duty. Stroud will bring a 10:4 TD:INT into a Week 7 trip to Lambeau Field.

Throws for 331 in Week 5 win
Stroud completed 28 of 38 passes for 331 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Bills. He added three rushing attempts for 27 yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Stroud racked up 187 passing yards in the first half, highlighted by a 67-yard touchdown pass to Nico Collins, who later left the game due to a hamstring injury. Without his top target, the second-year quarterback fell apart in the fourth quarter, turning the ball over on consecutive possessions and then knocking the Texans out of field-goal range with an ill-timed intentional grounding penalty. Houston's defense and special teams closed out the win, and a 59-yard Ka'imi Fairbairn field goal on the game's final play ensured that Stroud's second straight game with more than 330 passing yards didn't go to waste. Even if Collins doesn't play against the Patriots in Week 6, Stroud still has the means to be effective with Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell as his top two wide receivers.

Leads comeback win in Week 4
Stroud completed 27 of 40 passes for 345 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Jaguars. He added 17 rushing yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
The Texans trailed for most of the fourth quarter in a back-and-forth affair, but Stroud led a game-winning drive in the final three minutes that was capped by a one-yard TD toss to Dare Ogunbowale. It's Stroud's first game this season with more than 260 passing yards, but increased volume helped at his 40 pass attempts were also a season high. The second-year QB will likely need to be productive again in Week 5 as the Texans host the Bills.
Sep 22, 2024
Stymied by Vikings
Stroud completed 20 of 31 passes for 215 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions in Sunday's 34-7 loss to Minnesota. He added 12 rushing yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
With the game out of hand, Stroud gave way to Davis Mills under center for the Texans' final drive of the afternoon. The interceptions were Stroud's first of the season, but he did salvage his day to some extent with an eight-yard TD toss to Cam Akers in the third quarter. Stroud will look to rebound in Week 4 against the Jaguars.
Sep 15, 2024
Mistake-free in win on SNF
Stroud completed 23 of 36 passes for 260 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 19-13 win over the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Stroud threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to Nico Collins in the second quarter, Ka'imi Fairbairn tacked on four field goals and Houston's defense added to Caleb Williams' slow start as Stroud showed that he's the superior young quarterback at this stage of their respective careers. The second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft has led the Texans to a 2-0 start with a tidy 3:0 TD:INT heading into a Week 3 trip to Minnesota, and Stroud hasn't thrown an interception since Week 11 of his rookie season.
Sep 8, 2024
Efficient in Week 1 win
Stroud completed 24 of 32 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 29-27 win over the Colts. He added 13 rushing yards on four carries.
ANALYSIS
Despite some early issues with his footing on the new turf at Lucas Oil Stadium, Stroud put together an impressive performance that saw his newest weapons, Joe Mixon and Stefon Diggs, account for all three of Houston's touchdowns. Stroud did take four sacks, but otherwise the Texans' attack looked just as sharp as it did last year when the quarterback won Offensive Rookie of the Year. Stroud will lead his team into a Week 2 clash with the Bears and 2024 first overall pick Caleb Williams.
Aug 24, 2024
Next start, Week 1
Stroud is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Rams, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Wilson, fellow QBs Case Keenum and Tim Boyle are expected to play extensively Saturday as they compete for slotting behind Stroud and Davis Mills. Stroud's next game action is thus slated to occur Sept. 8 against the Colts, when he'll helm an offense that will feature a pass-catching corps led by WRs Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins and Tank Dell, along with TE Dalton Schultz.
Aug 17, 2024
Plays two series Saturday
Stroud completed seven of 10 passes for 88 yards in Saturday's 28-10 preseason win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The second-year quarterback was only on the field for two possessions and failed to get the ball into the end zone in either one, but he still got some chances to flash his arm talent, connecting with Nico Collins for a 24-yard gain and Dalton Schultz for a 26-yard completion from the Houston one-yard line. Stroud has yet to play even a full quarter in the preseason, seeing only two drives in the Texans' exhibition opener as well, but he looks just about ready for Week 1. The Ohio State product will be looking to build on a dazzling campaign that saw him throw for 4.108 yards, the third-highest total by a rookie in NFL history.
Aug 15, 2024
Suiting up again Saturday
Coach DeMeco Ryans said Thursday that the Texans' starters, including Stroud, will play in Saturday's preseason contest against the Giants, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Ryans didn't provide an amount of time for the first teamers to remain in the contest, but Stroud played two possessions in Houston's exhibition opener last Friday at Pittsburgh, so another pair of drives this weekend seems like a reasonable expectation. Stroud is the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year after completing 64 percent of his passes for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing for 167 yards and three more scores in 15 regular-season games in 2023.
Aug 9, 2024
Tosses 34-yard TD to Dell
Stroud completed two of four passes for 41 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 20-12 preseason win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Stroud played two drives, capping his outing in style with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Tank Dell. With Dell back from last year's season-ending leg injury and Nico Collins returning after a breakout 2023 season alongside offseason acquisition Stefon Diggs, Stroud will have one of the league's most talented wide receiver rooms at his disposal for his sophomore season. Stroud already looks like he's in midseason form, but he may get more opportunities to work on his timing with Houston's receivers in next Saturday's preseason game against the Giants.
Aug 5, 2024
Likely playing this Friday
Coach DeMeco Ryans suggested Monday that Stroud and other starters will play in Friday's preseason game against the Steelers, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Ryans didn't mention Stroud by name but said Houston's starters will get playing time. While there may be some exceptions, Stroud likely will handle at least a drive or two, perhaps giving fans a chance to see him connect with WR Stefon Diggs for the first time in a game environment.
Jul 31, 2024
Not slated to play Thursday
Stroud is not in line to play in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Bears, Cole Thompson of the USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
With the Texans not planning to play key starters in their preseason opener, Stroud's next chance to see exhibition action will be Aug. 9 against the Steelers. While Thursday's starter hasn't been specified, the report notes that Davis Mills has been getting almost all the reps with Houston's second-team offense.
Jul 30, 2024
Full practice Monday
Stroud was a full participant in practice Monday after having Sunday off, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud had his foot stepped on by Folorunso Fatukasi during Saturday's practice and, after limping around for a bit, was able to finish out the session at normal speed. Sunday's day off can be viewed as a precaution. It's unlikely that Stroud will play in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Bears, as head coach DeMeco Ryans plans not to play several key starters.

Stroud was a full participant in practice Monday after having Sunday off, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud had his foot stepped on by Folorunso Fatukasi during Saturday's practice but was able to finish out the session at normal speed. Sunday's day off can be viewed as a precaution. It's unlikely that Stroud will play in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Bears, as head coach DeMeco Ryans plans not to play several key starters.

Has scare at practice
Stroud was limping during Saturday's practice after having his foot stepped on by defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi, Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud limped slightly for a few plays following the incident with the 6-foot-4, 318-pound lineman. However, Stroud never left the field and eventually regained full mobility. Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans said there was "no concern" at all about the quarterback following practice.
Feb 8, 2024
Wins Offensive Rookie of the Year
Stroud was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year on Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The result isn't all that surprising after Stroud posted a 23:5 TD:INT while averaging 8.2 yards per attempt in his rookie season. Perhaps even more impressive was the role he played in the Texans' seven-win improvement from the 2022 campaign. Stroud bested other impressive performances from rookies, including Bijan Robinson, Puka Nacua, Sam LaPorta and Jahmyr Gibbs.
Jan 20, 2024
Overwhelmed in playoff loss
Stroud completed 19 of 33 passes for 175 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 34-10 loss to the Ravens. He added three rushes for nine yards.
ANALYSIS
In contrast to his performance in his playoff debut, Stroud looked overwhelmed for much of the loss and could not consistently move the ball. He started reasonably well by racking up 82 passing yards in the first quarter but ultimately averaged just 5.3 yards per attempt with the team's only touchdown coming on a punt return. Despite the disappointing close to his rookie campaign, Stroud was impressive overall by throwing for 4,108 yards with a 23:5 TD:INT across 15 regular season games. That leaves little doubt that he's the franchise quarterback, and he also has several young pass catchers who combine to have the trajectory of the offense headed in a positive direction.
Jan 13, 2024
Three touchdowns in playoff win
Stroud completed 16 of 21 passes for 274 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 45-14 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Stroud was impressive in his playoff debut, particularly considering the Browns allowed only 164.7 passing yards to opponents during the regular season. He connected on five passes of more than 20 yards, highlighted by 76 and 37-yard touchdown passes. The only thing that slowed him down was the context of the game, as the Texans built up a three-score lead by midway through the third quarter. As a result, Stroud attempted only five passes in the second half and was pulled on Houston's first offensive possession of the second half. He and the team will now await the results of the rest of wild-card weekend to find out their opponent in the divisional round.
Jan 6, 2024
Leads Texans to postseason
Stroud completed 20 of 26 passes for 264 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 23-19 win over the Colts. He added three rushes for 20 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud finished off his impressive rookie season with an outstanding performance in a must-win game. He delivered a deep strike to Nico Collins on the Texans' first play from scrimmage for a 75-yard touchdown and capped off an eight-play, 57-yard drive with a one-yard touchdown pass just before halftime. Stroud finished the regular season with a 23:5 TD:INT while averaging 8.4 yards per attempt and will lead the Texans into the postseason -- potentially as the AFC South division champs.
Dec 31, 2023
Victorious in return
Stroud completed 24 of 32 passes for 213 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 26-3 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Stroud returned from a two-game absence caused by a concussion and led the Texans to a needed victory to keep their postseason hopes alive. He threw for his touchdown early in the second quarter on a 12-yard completion to Brevin Jordan and connected on four passes of at least 15 yards. This wasn't Stroud's most impressive performance of the season, but the stout Texans' defense ensured the offense didn't need to be aggressive to secure the win.
Dec 28, 2023
Practices fully, cleared for Week 17
Stroud was a full practice participant Thursday and confirmed that he'll start Sunday's game against the Titans after clearing concussion protocol, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud was unable to practice in any fashion in Weeks 15 and 16 after sustaining the concussion in a Dec. 10 loss to the Jets, but he's made rapid progress in his recovery over the past few days. After missing a second straight game in Sunday's 36-22 loss to the Browns, Stroud was back on the field Wednesday as a limited practice participant, with head coach DeMeco Ryans noting that the quarterback had reached "Phase 4" of the five-step protocol. Stroud then took another step forward Thursday by returning to a full-contact practice, and he was also cleared by an independent neurologist at some point during the day to pave the way for his return to the lineup this weekend. Stroud is back in action at a pivotal time for the 8-7 Texans, who sit firmly in the mix for the AFC South division title with the 8-7 Jaguars and the 8-7 Colts -- as well as an AFC wild-card spot -- heading into the final two games of the regular season.
Dec 28, 2023
Clears concussion protocol
Stroud has cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and is expected to start Sunday's game against the Titans, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud, who has missed two straight games, logged a limited practice Wednesday, and now that he's moved through concussion protocol, he's on track to return to action versus Tennessee, barring any setbacks. Thursday's injury report will add further context to the QB's Week 17 status by clarifying his participation level in practice.
Dec 27, 2023
Limited in return to practice
Stroud (concussion) was officially a limited practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Stroud has missed two straight games, but the QB's return to a limited practice Wednesday has him trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans. Per DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com, coach DeMeco Ryans relayed that Stroud is in "phase four" of the NFL's concussion protocol, which suggests that the Texans' signal caller has made considerable progress in his recovery since not practicing at all last week.
Dec 27, 2023
Practicing Wednesday
Stroud (concussion) was present for practice Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud, who suffered a concussion in the Texans' Week 14 loss to the Jets, has missed two straight games, but the quarterback's return to the field for the first practice of the week bodes well for his chances of returning to the lineup Sunday against the Titans. The extent of Stroud's practice participation won't be known until Houston releases its first Week 17 injury report later Wednesday.
Dec 27, 2023
Expected back at practice
Stroud (concussion) is expected to practice Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud is expected to resume practicing for the first time since entering the concussion protocol during a loss to the Jets in Week 14. That would represent substantial progress, and affirm reports that the Texans are reportedly optimistic about Stroud's chances of returning to action Sunday versus the Titans. Of course, Stroud will need to gain full medical clearance before retaking the field, so final clarity on his status may come down to the wire.
Dec 24, 2023
Could return Week 17
Stroud (concussion), who is already ruled out for Sunday's game against the Browns, is making progress in his recovery and could be ready to retake the field Week 17 versus the Titans, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Texans appear to have some optimism about Stroud's chances of fully clearing the NFL's concussion protocol in time to return Week 17, but the team will doubtless continue to take a cautious approach to the recovery of the rookie sensation. In the immediate future, with Stroud missing a second straight game, Case Keenum is set to draw another start versus Cleveland on Sunday, with Davis Mills available as his primary backup.
Dec 22, 2023
Won't play Sunday
Stroud (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Stroud wasn't able to practice in any fashion this week, and though head coach DeMeco Ryans said Wednesday that the quarterback's condition was improving, the rookie will ultimately miss a second straight game. Case Keenum will make another start Sunday in place of Stroud, while Davis Mills serves as Keenum's backup. Stroud will target a return to action Week 17 against the Titans on Dec. 31, but his potential availability will be contingent on him clearing the five-step protocol for brain injuries.
Dec 22, 2023
Still not practicing
Stroud (concussion) wasn't spotted at Friday's practice, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday either, so the signal-caller's continued absence Friday points to him remaining sidelined for Sunday's game against the Browns. The Texans' upcoming injury report will clarify whether there's any chance Stroud could play this weekend, but if he's unavailable, Case Keenum would once again be in line to fill in at QB for Houston in Week 16.
Dec 21, 2023
Misses another practice
Stroud (concussion) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud, who is in the NFL's concussion protocol, also missed Wednesday's practice and is trending toward missing his second consecutive game Sunday against the Browns. If Stroud remains sidelined this weekend, Case Keenum would once again be in line to fill in at QB for the Texans in Week 16.
Dec 20, 2023
Held out of practice
Stroud (concussion) didn't practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Stroud hasn't practiced since entering concussion protocol during a 30-6 loss to the Jets in Week 14, and multiple reports his Tuesday suggested he's unlikely to play in the upcoming game Sunday against Cleveland. There's still time for the rookie to progress through protocol, but it isn't looking good for Week 16 at this point. The Texans seem to be preparing Case Keenum for another start.
Dec 19, 2023
Likely out Week 16
Stroud (concussion) is not expected to be cleared in time to play in Sunday's Week 16 matchup with the Browns, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud has not officially been ruled out, but he is not trending in the right direction. If he is indeed sidelined, it would mark his second straight absence while in concussion protocol. Case Keenum filled in for the star rookie under center in last week's 19-16 win over the Titans, and would presumably do so again if Stroud is not given the green light.
Dec 16, 2023
Ruled out for Sunday
Stroud (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans.
ANALYSIS
With Stroud not traveling to Tennessee for the contest, he'll target a potential return to action Dec. 24 against the Browns. In his absence Sunday, either Case Keenum or Davis Mills will draw the start, with Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston indicating that Keenum is expected to get the assignment over Mills. Look for added context on that front to arrive closer to Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff.
Dec 15, 2023
Deemed doubtful to face Titans
If Stroud (concussion), who is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Titans, isn't available this weekend, either Davis Mills or Case Keenum could start in his place, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
When Stroud -- who didn't practice this week -- was forced out of last Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Jets in the fourth quarter, Mills closed out the contest for the Texans. However, Bien-Aime indicates that Mills and Keenum split practice reps this week, and when asked Friday if Mills would start if Stroud can't, coach DeMeco Ryans replied, "Both guys have prepared this (whole) week, just like every position, everybody's prepared." In any case, look for added context regarding Stroud's status (and his potential Week 15 fill-in, if necessary) to arrive closer to Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 15, 2023
Doubtful for Sunday
Stroud (concussion) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Titans.
ANALYSIS
The Texans are leaving the door slightly ajar for Stroud to make a miraculous late recovery after missing practice throughout the week. The much more likely scenario entails Stroud being listed as inactive ahead of Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, with Davis Mills then stepping in as the starter and Case Keenum taking the backup QB role.
Dec 15, 2023
Not practicing again
Stroud (concussion) wasn't spotted during the media-access portion of Friday's practice, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud, who is in the NFL's concussion protocol, didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, so at this stage it appears as though Davis Mills is trending toward starting Sunday's game against the Titans. In any case, the Texans' upcoming injury report will reveal whether the door is open at all for Stroud to potentially play in Week 15.
Dec 14, 2023
Still not practicing
Stroud, who remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, isn't practicing Thursday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud also didn't participate in Wednesday's session, leaving him with one more opportunity to practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans. If Stroud is unable to gain clearance ahead of Week 15 action, Davis Mills would be in line to start in his place versus Tennessee.
Dec 13, 2023
Not practicing Wednesday
Stroud (concussion) wasn't spotted at practice Wednesday, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud, who remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, thus has two more opportunities to log practice reps ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans. If he's unable to gain clearance for Week 15 action, Davis Mills would be in line to start at QB for the Texans this weekend.
Dec 11, 2023
Remains in protocol Monday
Coach DeMeco Ryans said Monday that Stroud remains in concussion protocol, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Ryans confirmed that Stroud has been diagnosed with a concussion. The team is likely to take a cautious approach with its rookie quarterback, even in the midst of a heated playoff race, so Stroud seems unlikely to suit up for Sunday's game in Tennessee. Stroud's participation level in practice will offer insight into how quickly he's progressing through the concussion protocol, but if Stroud fails to gain clearance before Sunday, Davis Mills would be in line to make his first start of the season.
Dec 10, 2023
In concussion protocol
Coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed following Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Jets that Stroud is in the NFL's concussion protocol, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, Stroud will be evaluated as the coming week progresses, but at this stage his status for next Sunday's game against the Titans is uncertain. If Stroud is unavailable for Week 15 action, Davis Mills would be in line to draw the start at QB versus Tennessee.
Dec 10, 2023
Evaluated for concussion
Stroud, who left Sunday's game against the Jets, is being evaluated for a possible concussion.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his fourth quarter exit from the contest, Stroud had completed 10 of 23 passes for 91 yards. With the Jets up 27-6, Stroud is presumably done for the day. In his absence, Davis Mills is in at QB for the Texans.
Dec 4, 2023
Briefly leaves game
Stroud was checked for concussion symptoms and missed two plays during Sunday's 22-17 win over the Broncos, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud took a shot on a 3rd-and-1 quarterback sneak during the fourth quarter and left the game to be checked. Davis Mills replaced him under center for two plays before Stroud re-entered the contest. It was the second time this season that Stroud was checked for symptoms but he's missed just three plays. Mills handed off to Dameon Pierce and completed an 18-yard pass to Nico Collins before heading back to the sidelines. Stroud took a number of hits Sunday as the Broncos sacked him three times and delivered eight quarterback hits overall.
Dec 3, 2023
Efficient in Week 13 victory
Stroud completed 16 of 27 passes for 274 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 22-17 win over the Broncos. He added six rushes for 11 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud turned in another exceptionally efficient performance, averaging 10.1 yards per attempt on the strength of two completions over 50 yards and two additional gains of over 20. The only downside to his performance was his lack of touchdowns, as he failed to record multiple scores for the first time in his last four games. Nevertheless, Stroud has quickly proven to be one of the more efficient quarterbacks in the league and has topped 270 passing yards in five consecutive contests.
Nov 26, 2023
Over 300 yards, three total TDs
Stroud completed 26 of 36 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Jaguars. He added six rushing attempts for 47 yards and one touchdown.
ANALYSIS
One drive after having what would have been a 62-yard connection to Tank Dell called back on a penalty, Stroud found Dell for a seven-yard touchdown to get the Texans on the board in the second quarter. Stroud ran one in himself from one yard out in the third quarter, then threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Nico Collins in the fourth. Houston got the ball back after Collins' touchdown and Stroud led an 11-play, 50-yard drive that culminated with a missed 58-yard field goal from Matt Ammendola. The loss snapped Houston's three-game winning streak and dropped the Texans' record to 6-5. Stroud has exceeded 300 passing yards in four consecutive games and will take a 19:5 TD:INT into a Week 13 home game against the Broncos, which could prove pivotal in the AFC playoff race.
Nov 20, 2023
Leaves game briefly
Stroud was replaced by Davis Mills for one play during Sunday's 21-16 win over Arizona in Week 11.
ANALYSIS
Stroud took a hit from the Cardinals' Jalen Thompson on a blitz early in the third quarter and stayed down briefly. Despite the quarterback's protestations, Houston trainers took him to the sideline, but Stroud returned one play later and threw a bullet to Tank Dell for 18 yards on third-and-17. He appears to be okay and finished the game without incident, but after the offense amassed 333 yards and scored three touchdowns in the first half, Houston was shut out and gained just 65 yards following the hit.
Nov 19, 2023
Struggles with INTs in win
Stroud completed 27 of 37 passes for 336 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in the Texans' 21-16 win over the Cardinals on Sunday. He also rushed once for minus-1 yard.
ANALYSIS
Stroud and the Texans were in the relatively unfamiliar position of trailing after one quarter, but the standout rookie signal-caller helped erase that deficit with an impressive 40-yard scoring dart to Tank Dell in the second quarter, which was preceded by a 20-yard scoring toss to Dalton Schultz in the opening period. However, Stroud, who appeared to be on pace for an even bigger day at halftime, slowed down some in the second half partly due to a pair of interceptions, although neither resulted in any Cardinals points. The second overall pick has now eclipsed the 300-yard mark in three consecutive games and next gets a crack at a Jaguars defense that's given up plenty of passing yards in a Week 12 divisional clash.
Nov 12, 2023
Another standout performance Sunday
Stroud completed 23 of 39 passes for 356 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Texans' 30-27 win over the Bengals on Sunday. He also rushed twice for eight yards and a touchdown and lost two fumbles.
ANALYSIS
Stroud went into enemy territory and helped the Texans continue to defy expectations with the fourth 300-yard effort of his nascent career. The rookie did throw multiple interceptions for the first time, but he impressively adapted to not having top receiver Nico Collins (calf) by pivoting to Noah Brown (7-172), Dalton Schultz (4-71) and Tank Dell (6-56-1). The second overall pick also got plenty of help from a career-best 150-yard rushing day from Devin Singletary, and he capped off another stellar afternoon by coolly leading Houston on a six-play, 55-yard march that culminated in a game-winning 38-yard field goal by Matt Ammendola. Stroud next faces off with Kyler Murray and the Cardinals in what could be another high-scoring contest at home in Week 11.
Nov 5, 2023
Sets rookie record in wild win
Stroud completed 30 of 42 passes for 470 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions while adding a 10-yard two-point conversion run in the Texans' 39-37 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. He also committed a fumble that was recovered by Houston.
ANALYSIS
Stroud's yardage tally was a new NFL rookie single-game record, and the rookie fittingly accomplished the feat on an improbable six-play, 75-yard game-winning drive in the final 45 seconds of the contest. Stroud hit Tank Dell for a 15-yard game-winning touchdown pass with six seconds remaining to cap off the march, a play preceded by a perfect 26-yard sideline throw to the rookie wideout. As his final numbers indicate, Stroud eviscerated the Buccaneers pass defense throughout the afternoon, and he connected with Nico Collins (14 yards), Noah Brown (75 yards), Dell (29 yards) and Dalton Schultz (nine yards) for his other four scoring tosses. Stroud's record-setting afternoon also marked his fifth multi-touchdown game of what is turning into a ROY-worthy campaign, and he'll next set his sights on an intriguing Week 10 road matchup versus the Bengals.
Oct 29, 2023
Disappointing numbers in loss
Stroud completed 16 of 24 passes for 140 yards in Sunday's 15-13 loss to the Panthers. He added 13 rushing yards and a touchdown on two carries.
ANALYSIS
The 140 passing yards were a season low for Stroud, while this was the first time he'd failed to toss a TD since his Week 1 NFL debut. The second overall pick in this year's draft has seen his yardage total decline in three straight games, suggesting the league's defensive coordinators might be developing a book on the young QB, but Stroud could bounce back in Week 9 against a Buccaneers defense that had given up the third-most passing yards in the league coming into Sunday.
Oct 15, 2023
Throws first interception in win
Stroud completed 13 of 27 passes for 199 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 20-13 win over the Saints. He added three rushing attempts for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Stroud threw his first career interception on Houston's second possession, ending his streak of passes without being picked off at 191. The Texans actually retained the ball on the play because Saints linebacker Zack Baun fumbled after recording the interception, and Stroud capitalized on the second chance by finding Dalton Schultz for a one-yard touchdown six plays later. He added a six-yard touchdown pass to Robert Woods in the second quarter. The second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft has a 9:1 TD:INT heading into Houston's Week 7 bye.

Nearly pulls off comeback
Stroud completed 20 of 35 passes for 249 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and rushed once for two yards in the Texans' 20-19 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Stroud remained mistake-free for the fifth consecutive game to open his NFL career, and it briefly appeared he'd led Houston to its third win when he hit Dalton Schultz for an 18-yard touchdown pass with 1:49 remaining to cap off an 11-play drive. However, Desmond Ridder was able to lead Atlanta back down the field for an eventual game-winning field goal, but Stroud turned in another solid albeit unspectacular performance for fantasy managers. The rookie will take a 7:0 TD:INT and at least 242 passing yards in each game thus far into a Week 6 home matchup versus the Saints.

Sharp in win over Steelers
Stroud completed 16 of 30 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 30-6 win over the Steelers. He added 16 rushing yards on four carries.
ANALYSIS
The rookie quarterback connected with Nico Collins for TDs in the first and fourth quarters while playing error-free football all afternoon. Perhaps the most impressive stat for Stroud was that he took zero sacks from a Pittsburgh pass rush headed by T.J. Watt despite working behind an offensive line missing both starting tackles and down to a third-string center. Stroud has a 6:0 TD:INT through his first four NFL games, giving him plenty of confidence heading into a Week 5 road clash with the Falcons.

Masterful in upset victory
Stroud completed 20 of 30 passes for 280 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Texans' 37-17 win over the Jaguars on Sunday. He also rushed three times for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
While the Dolphins' 50-point drubbing of the Broncos arguably qualified as the most eye-catching score of the early window of games Sunday, the Texans' 20-point road victory that Stroud spearheaded has to qualify as a close second. The rookie looked like anything but an inexperienced player while facing a defense that had given Patrick Mahomes and his squad plenty of trouble in Week 2, not taking any sacks or committing any turnovers while connecting with eight different pass catchers. Stroud hit fellow rookie Tank Dell, who he's already flashed impressive chemistry with, for a 68-yard score in the fourth quarter that served as the first-year signal-caller's longest pass of his nascent career, a play preceded by a four-yard scoring strike to little-used tight end Brevin Jordan halfway through the second period. Stroud has seemingly adapted quickly to NFL defenses, throwing for at least 242 yards in each of his first three contests while producing a 4:0 TD:INT. His next opportunity to build on an impressive ea

Practices fully Friday, will play
Stroud (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation ahead of Sunday's Week 3 game against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Stroud practiced in full Friday and will continue to play through his minor shoulder issue. Playing from behind all afternoon in Week 2, Stroud threw for 384 yards and two touchdowns. He's not yet a fantasy QB1 but has positioned himself on the back end of the QB2 map.
Sep 22, 2023
Managing shoulder injury
Stroud (shoulder) is close to 100 percent healthy despite having his reps limited in practice during the week, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud intends to play Sunday against the Jaguars, though he may carry an official injury designation into the game, just as he did in Week 2 against the Colts before throwing for 384 yards and two touchdowns. The Texans plan to manage the rookie quarterback's practice reps moving forward to keep the shoulder from worsening. Stroud played through a similar injury at Ohio State in 2021.

Logs full practice Thursday
Stroud (right shoulder) returned to a full practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Stroud was listed as limited Wednesday, but his full participation a day later sets the stage for the rookie QB to start Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle relays that Stroud, who dealt with shoulder soreness last week, feels almost "100 percent" at this stage and barring any setbacks, the No. 2 overall pick in the NFL Draft shouldn't face any limitations in Week 3. Two games into the season, Stroud has thrown for 626 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions to go along with seven carries for 21 yards.
Sep 20, 2023
Listed as limited
Stroud (shoulder) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Stroud threw for 384 yards and two TDs on 47 attempts while playing through shoulder pain in Sunday's 31-20 loss to Indianapolis. With no report of a setback, he'll likely suit up again Week 3 at Jacksonville even if he remains limited at practice Thursday and/or Friday. Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports that Stroud didn't throw much during Wednesday's practice, mostly working on hand-offs with the running backs instead.

Outstanding yardage total in loss
Stroud completed 30 of 47 passes for 384 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Texans' 31-20 loss to the Colts on Sunday. He also rushed three times for one yard and committed two fumbles, losing one and recovering the other.
ANALYSIS
The turnover and shaky ball security wasn't completely surprising considering Stroud was missing four starting offensive linemen overall, but the rookie signal-caller persevered through constant pressure and a sore shoulder he entered the game with to put together an excellent statistical performance during which he showed good command of the offense. Stroud connected with Nico Collins (eight yards) and Tank Dell (23 yards) for touchdown passes in the first and fourth quarter, respectively, and fought until the final whistle, taking a sack in Colts territory as time expired. Per Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle, Stroud said after the game that he played with some shoulder pain "here and there" Sunday after working hard all week to be active, and Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle separately reports the second overall pick feels he'll be back to full health for a Week 3 road divisional matchup against the Jaguars.

Cleared to start Sunday
Stroud (shoulder) is active for Sunday's game against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Added to the injury report Friday after he was a limited participant in the Texans' final Week 2 practice session due to soreness in his (right) throwing shoulder, Stroud took a questionable tag into the weekend. As anticipated, Stroud was able to warm up earlier Sunday without any major restrictions, so he'll get the green light to make his second career start. The rookie signal-caller will be working behind a depleted offensive line, however, as left tackle Laremy Tunsil (knee) is inactive, while right tackle Tytus Howard (hand), left guard Kenyon Green (shoulder) and center Juice Scruggs (hamstring) all remain on injured reserve.

Expected to play Week 2
Stroud (shoulder) is expected to suit up for Sunday's game against the Colts, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud popped up on Friday's injury report and is officially listed as questionable for Week 2, but it looks like the Texans expect him to be on the field versus Indianapolis. Official word on Stroud's status will come prior to Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. The rookie quarterback completed 28 of 44 passes for 242 yards without a touchdown or interception in Week 1's loss to the Ravens.

Added to injury report Friday
Stroud (right shoulder) is listed as questionbale for Sunday's game against the Colts after being limited in practice Friday.
ANALYSIS
Stroud practiced fully both Wednesday and Thursday, so those considering the rookie QB in Week 2 lineups are now advised to track his status ahead of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff. In the event that Stroud is unavailable this weekend, Davis Mills and Case Keenum would be on hand to serve as the Texans' options at QB versus Indianapolis.

Solid in pro debut
Stroud completed 28 of 44 passes for 242 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed four times for 20 yards in the Texans' 25-9 loss to the Ravens on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
The rookie finished with some very serviceable numbers despite relatively sparse preseason playing time, and the fact he did it against such a formidable defense was especially impressive. Stroud's one turnover did lead to three Ravens points, although Houston was already down 13 in the fourth quarter at the time. The rookie second overall pick connected with nine different targets overall, which may have been one of the most encouraging aspects of his performance. With the seal now officially broken on his pro career, Stroud will aim to build on his early success against the Colts in a Week 2 home matchup.

Officially named Week 1 starter
Coach DeMeco Ryans named Stroud the Texans' Week 1 starting quarterback after Sunday's preseason win over the Saints, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud didn't see much volume during Sunday's preseason finale, but he completed two of four pass attempts for 16 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. The touchdown was his first of the preseason, and the rookie No. 2 overall pick will officially begin the 2023 season under center for Houston. In total, Stroud completed 11 of 20 passes for 89 yards, a touchdown and an interception over his three preseason games. Stroud has some rushing potential, but his 2023 fantasy upside is limited because he'll be running an offense that struggled last season while also playing under a first-year head coach.
Aug 27, 2023
Scores quick TD
Stroud completed two of four pass attempts for 16 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's preseason finale against New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Stroud started Houston's first two offensive drives Sunday, finishing his brief appearance with a touchdown pass to Nico Collins after going three-and-out on the team's first possession. The promising rookie has been operating the first-unit offense all preseason despite not being officially named Week 1 starter by head coach DeMeco Ryans. Assuming this pattern holds true, Stroud will make his first regular-season start against the Ravens on Sept. 10.

Sunday start on tap
Stroud is slated to start Sunday's preseason finale against the Saints, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The assignment will mark Stroud's third straight exhibition start, per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston, with the team planning on having the Sunday's starters log about two series worth of action, Drew Dougherty of the Texans' official site relays. Once Stroud gets his reps in against New Orleans, he'll turn his focus to preparing for Houston's regular-season opener against the Ravens.

Starts first half Saturday
Stroud completed seven of his 12 pass attempts for 60 yards and no touchdowns or turnovers in Saturday's preseason loss to Miami.
ANALYSIS
Stroud got to play the entire first half in his second preseason start, with incumbent Davis Mills (10/22, 94 yards) entering after halftime, all but confirming that the former will start under center for Houston. The second-overall pick from this year's draft did not post a gaudy line, but it was a marked improved over his first start where he completed just two passes while throwing a pick. Stroud will now attempt the difficult ask of developing as a rookie starter -- with a rookie head coach -- while running an offense that was putrid prior to his arrival.

Draws Saturday start
Coach DeMeco Ryans said Thursday that Stroud will start Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud, who also started the Texans' preseason opener against the Patriots, has been taking full first-team reps for almost two weeks, according toBrooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle. Though Houston's Week 1 starting signal-caller hasn't been confirmed, Pelissero suggests that this weekend's assignment represents "another step toward the No. 2 overall pick being Houston's QB1."
Aug 10, 2023
Picked off in preseason debut
Stroud completed two of four passes for 13 yards and an interception in Thursday night's 20-9 preseason-opening win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Stroud started in his first NFL action, but he was sacked and picked off on his opening drive. The second pick in this year's draft played only two series before turning over duties to backup Davis Mills. While it was a less than ideal exhibition debut for Stroud, he could see more extended time in Houston's second preseason game against Miami next Saturday.
Aug 7, 2023
Named starter Thursday
Stroud will start Thursday's preseason opener against the Patriots, per coach DeMeco Ryans, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud will make his NFL debut Thursday. The second overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft is competing with Davis Mills for the starting quarterback job in Houston, but considering Stroud has been receiving the vast majority of first-team reps, the starting spot is his to lose.
Aug 6, 2023
Gets all first-team reps
Stroud took all the first-team reps Saturday for a second consecutive day, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stroud and Davis Mills had been splitting first-team reps each day during 11-on-11 drills, but that pattern changed Friday and Saturday. "With C.J., what I've seen is he's definitely made adjustments," Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans told Sidhu after Friday's session. "He's getting the ball out quick, he's making the proper reads." This could be a sign that Ryans plans to have Stroud start Thursday's preseason opener against New England.
Jul 31, 2023
Commanding the huddle
Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans noted Stroud's "command of the huddle" as an area of progress for the rookie quarterback, John McClain of SportsRadio 610 reports. "With college players now, a lot of it is looking to the sideline, and they see a signal or a picture, and that's their play," Ryans said. "But here, we're asking them to operate from a huddle, which is new."
ANALYSIS
Stroud continues to share first-team reps with Davis Mills, and Ryans mentioned a few areas of improvement before anointing the rookie as the No. 1. The coach mentioned Stroud's footwork and progressions, which are things he's working on with coaches. Ryans made it a point not to overwhelm Stroud by giving him one thing per day to work on instead of multiple items.
Jul 28, 2023
Not number one yet
Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans is not yet ready to name Stroud the starting quarterback, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. "When that time comes it's going to be the best guy that I feel like is going to lead our team in a proper way," Ryans said.
ANALYSIS
Stroud, the Texans' second-overall pick in the 2023 draft, and Davis Mills, entering his third NFL season, are sharing first-unit reps in the early days of camp. That's a situation that will likely be in place through the first preseason game against New England, per Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle. Stroud had a couple of key moments during Thursday's session, including a touchdown pass to tight end Dalton Schultz on a two-minute drill that came after an interception on the previous series. Showing resiliency and reacting well to a mistake will help the rookie in his quest to become the team's No. 1.

Working with first unit
Stroud is getting first-team reps this week, though coach DeMeco Ryans suggested Davis Mills will continue working with the starters as well, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
The Texans are rotating first-team reps by week, rather than by day, giving Stroud and Mills the opportunity to throw to starters in consecutive practices. While coach DeMeco Ryans downplayed the significance, it's certainly not a bad sign for Stroud that he's the one leading the way at June minicamp, the final team activities before training camp beings in late July. The No. 2 overall pick won't be handed the Week 1 starting job without any competition but is being given every chance to prove he's ready for the assignment.
May 23, 2023
Starting strong at OTAs
Coach DeMeco Ryans suggested Tuesday that he's in no rush to name a starting quarterback, though Stroud has done an "excellent job" so far, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Davis Mills was the first QB through drills at OTAs on Tuesday, followed by Stroud and then Case Keenum. The No. 2 overall pick figures to make starts as a rookie, but it won't automatically be Week 1 if he struggles this spring/summer. Ryan said a starter won't be determined until training camp and the preseason come around.
Apr 27, 2023
Selected second overall by Houston
The Texans selected Stroud in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft, second overall.
ANALYSIS
For much of the pre-draft process, Stroud was considered a candidate to go first overall, and it's difficult to identify ways he could have played much better at Ohio State. This selection gives the Texans a credible franchise quarterback prospect, and one who will perhaps jumpstart the Houston passing game after throwing 85 touchdown passes to just 12 interceptions over the last two years. Stroud (6-foot-3, 214 pounds) is not a big quarterback and is unlikely to run much at the NFL level, but his pocket movement is adequate and his quick release allows him to pose as a big-play threat as a passer.
