Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reported earlier Monday that Stroud remained in the concussion protocol, and his lack of activity to begin Week 12 prep indicates that he hasn't made any tangible progress in his recovery. Stroud thus appears to be trending toward a third absence in a row Thursday against the Bills, which would pave the way for Davis Mills to start a third consecutive game. The Texans may confirm as much when they post their final injury report of the week Wednesday.

Stroud is still in the NFL's five-step concussion protocol Monday and his availability for Thursday's home game against the Bills remains uncertain, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Stroud has missed two straight games and now faces a short week of preparation before Houston's appearance on Thursday Night Football, and he has yet to resume practicing. As such, if Stroud remains a non-participant Monday, it will forebode Davis Mills drawing another start. Even if Stroud gets back on the practice field Monday there are no guarantees he'll be available Thursday, as before returning to game action the 2023 first-round pick will need to gain full clearance from the concussion protocol, including from an independent neurologist.

Stroud, who has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup versus Tennessee due to a concussion, may not be ready to return in Thursday's Week 12 game against Buffalo, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Stroud suffered the concussion in Week 9 against Denver and missed last Sunday's win over Jacksonville. He'll sit out a second straight contest this week, and he may miss a third game in Week 12. It doesn't help that the Texans will be on a short week, as they'll next play the Bills on Thursday Night Football. For as long as Stroud remains out, Davis Mills figures to start behind center for Houston.

The Texans announced Thursday that Stroud (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans, leaving Davis Mills in position to draw another start, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Stroud will miss a second consecutive game as he continues to work his way through the NFL's concussion protocol. He has yet to resume practicing, and per Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston is still experiencing symptoms. Stroud's next chance to play will come Week 12 versus the Bills on Thursday Night Football, but before being eligible to retake the field he'll need to fully clear the concussion protocol, which includes undergoing evaluation by an independent neurologist.

Friday's injury report will reveal whether Stroud heads into the weekend with any chance to suit up versus Tennessee, or is ruled out in advance of Houston's upcoming short week ahead of a Nov. 20 contest against the Bills.

Bien-Aime notes that Stroud still had concussion symptoms earlier this week, after missing Sunday's win over the Jaguars. There are a still a few days to make progress through the concussion protocol, but early signs point to Davis Mills making another start this Sunday at Tennessee.

Coach DeMeco Ryans noted Wednesday that Stroud (concussion) "will be out" Sunday against the Jaguars, Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network report.

With Stroud in the NFL's concussion protocol and not slated to be available this weekend, Davis Mills is in line to draw the start at QB for Houston on Sunday. Stroud's next chance to see game action will occur in Week 11, when the Texans play Tennessee on the road.

Stroud's lack of participation is no surprise, given that he was forced out of Houston's loss to the Broncos in Week 9 early due to a concussion. The starting quarterback will need to fully clear the NFL's concussion protocol before returning to game action, making his status for Sunday's divisional matchup against the Jaguars uncertain at best. Davis Mills will stand to start in place of Stroud if the franchise QB can't go.

Stroud was in a zone throughout most of the afternoon following a difficult performance on the road against the Seahawks on Monday night to close out Week 7. The third-year signal-caller was working without Nico Collins (concussion) and Christian Kirk (hamstring), but he recorded 14 of his completions to a trio of wideouts playing elevated roles in Xavier Hutchinson, Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins. Stroud's pair of scoring tosses went to Hutchinson (30 yards) and Higgins (12 yards) as well, and his yardage total was a season-high figure. Stroud now has multiple touchdown passes in three of the last four games, but he has an unenviable task on tap in Week 9 in the form of a home matchup against the Broncos.

Stroud completed 23 of 49 pass attempts for 229 yards, one touchdown and one interception while taking two carries for 25 yards in Monday's 27-19 loss to Seattle.

Fresh off of a season-high, four-touchdown performance against the Ravens, Stroud reverted to inconsistent pocket play in a deflating loss to the Seahawks. The 23-year-old failed to complete 50 percent of his passes while finishing as many touchdown drives as the dominant defense playing behind him. Stroud didn't get much help from his ground game, actually finishing Monday's loss as the Texans' leading rusher ahead of Woody Marks (10-15-0) and Nick Chubb (5-16-0). He also lost top wideout Nico Collins early in the fourth quarter to a concussion, a situation worth monitoring ahead of next Sunday's tilt against the 49ers. Stroud's stock would suffer further in Week 8 if Collins is unable to clear the league's concussion protocol.

Stroud completed 23 of 27 passes for 244 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 44-10 win over the Ravens. He added one rush for 30 yards.

Stroud faced a thinned version of the Baltimore defense that was missing Kyle Hamilton (groin), Marlon Humphrey (calf) and Chidobe Awuzie (hamstring) in its secondary alone. He took advantage of the good spot, throwing more than three touchdowns for only the second time in his career while completing three passes of at least 20 yards. Stroud was ultimately pulled early in the fourth quarter due to the game being a blowout, but it was a positive fantasy performance and also a good showing for the Houston offense overall.

Stroud's pre-snap reads were instrumental to the 24-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Higgins in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 26-0 win over the Titans in Week 4, Sam Warren of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Warren gets into the weeds, outlining the pre-snap reads, adjustments and execution of the play, but the main point is that Stroud may have found his groove in the new offense. That offense, input by new offensive coordinator Nick Caley, involves Stroud taking more control. It may have taken three-and-a-half games to click in, as the quarterback completed 11-of-13 attempts (eight different targets) for 144 yards while directing touchdown drives on successive possessions from late in the third quarter and into the fourth. Following an ugly 0-3 start and head coach DeMeco Ryans' defense of Caley, Stroud's intuition and execution of the offense may extend forward to Week 5 on the road against the Ravens.

Stroud completed 22 of 28 passes for 233 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 26-0 win over the Titans. He added four rushes for 11 yards.

Stroud took some time to find his rhythm, totaling only 82 yards on 14 pass attempts at halftime. He looked far more comfortable in the final two quarters, going 12-for-14 for 151 yards -- highlighted by three completions of at least 20 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Higgins. While Stroud's final line wasn't outstanding, it was still an encouraging result as he took advantage of a favorable matchup to post season-high marks in touchdowns and passing yardage.

Stroud completed 25 of 38 passes with one touchdown and two interceptions and rushed four times for 22 yards in the Texans' 17-10 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.

Another sluggish day for the Texans offense saw Stroud toss his second and third interceptions of the season on the Jaguars' 19 and four-yard line, respectively, in the second half. The second pick was a true back-breaker, as it came with 27 seconds remaining and Houston seemingly on the verge of going in for a game-tying touchdown. Stroud and his teammates on that side of the ball have looked out of sorts through three games, albeit against the tough defenses of the Rams, Buccaneers and Jaguars. However, the going doesn't get any easier in Week 4, as Houston travels to Baltimore to face the Ravens next Sunday.

Stroud completed 13 of 24 pass attempts for 207 yards and a touchdown while rushing four times for 27 yards in Monday's 20-19 loss to Tampa Bay.

Stroud didn't waste much time scoring the Texans' first touchdown of the season after failing to get his team into the end zone against the Rams in Week 1. The 24-year-old dialed up WR Nico Collins for a 27-yard score on Houston's opening drive, but that would end up being his only touchdown of the contest. Stroud failed to capitalize on a golden opportunity on the opponent's one-yard line early in the fourth quarter when he missed on two consecutive throws before turning the ball over on downs. With marginal yardage totals (197.5 passing yards/game) and just one touchdown to one interception through two starts, Stroud has played his way out of starting consideration in standard 1QB formats ahead of Sunday's tilt against Jacksonville.

Stroud completed 19 of 27 pass attempts for 188 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while taking five carries for 32 yards in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Rams.

Stroud struggled to finish drives Sunday, leading three lengthy possessions that ended in field goal attempts. A second-half interception cemented the signal-caller's poor outing and a loss to begin the 2025 campaign. Stroud and his fantasy managers were hoping for a better start after the offense petered out down the stretch last season. Houston will have an extra day to figure things out offensively before hosting the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football in Week 2.

Stroud and most other projected starters won't play in Saturday's preseason game against Detroit, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

The list of rested players also includes RB Nick Chubb, WRs Nico Collins and Christian Kirk, and TEs Dalton Schultz and Cade Stover. They'll soon turn their attention to a Week 1 road matchup with the Rams, a team with impressive pass rushers but major questions marks in the secondary. Stroud is looking to bounce back from a sophomore slump, with the help of new offensive coordinator Nick Caley and a remade WR corps (after Collins).

Stroud completed six of eight passes for 44 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in the Texans' 20-3 preseason win over the Panthers on Saturday afternoon.

Stroud played the first two series, getting his first taste of running new coordinator Nick Caley's offense in game action. The third-year signal-caller was impressive with his opportunity, benefitting from good protection and hitting Nico Collins with a fourth-down touchdown pass of five yards to cap off a crisp 11-play, 60-yard march during which he completed passes to four different targets and close out his afternoon. Stroud certainly got quality work in Saturday, so it remains to be seen if he'll log any snaps during the preseason finale against the Lions on the road next Saturday.

Stroud will start Saturday's preseason game against Carolina, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Stroud sat out Houston's preseason debut against the Vikings last week, but he'll get an opportunity to take on a handful of exhibition reps versus the Panthers. It will be intriguing to see an early preview of Stroud behind his new offensive line, and alongside a revamped wide receiver corps headlined by returning No. 1 option Nico Collins, plus new arrivals Christian Kirk, Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel. It's not a guarantee that either of Higgens or Noel, both rookies out of Iowa State, will handle any first-team reps alongside Stroud, however.

Stroud is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

With the Texans resting a number of starters Saturday, Davis Mills will start at QB in place of Stroud. The third-year signal-caller's next chance to see game action will arrive Aug. 16 against the Panthers.

Stroud made it a point during the offseason to rework his body after a sophomore season of regression in 2024, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports. "I've been working really hard on getting my body right -- losing body fat, trying to be faster, stronger," Stroud said. "And it went really well. ... [Working] pocket mobility, running out the pocket, throwing the rock. Everything kind of works hand in hand."

Stroud looks to rebound from his second NFL season, when he saw dips in passing yards and touchdowns while throwing seven more interceptions than in his rookie season. It's a hopeful sign that Stroud is putting in the work this offseason, but there are other areas of the offense that needs to improve in 2025. Houston ranked 22nd in yards per game (319.7) and 19th in points per game (21.9) while managing to win the AFC South for a second consecutive season. That drop cost offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik his job, as the Texans replaced him with Nick Caley, who was the pass game coordinator and tight ends coach for the Rams last year. In addition to what will be a new playbook, the offensive line needs to be better. Stroud was sacked 52 times during the regular season and taken down 11 more times during the playoffs.

Stroud (shoulder) is throwing at the start of mandatory minicamp Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Stroud is on the field for the start of 7-on-7 drills with the first-team offense, per Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle, and a video recorded by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston shows the third-year quarterback participating in padded throwing drills without any apparent discomfort. Coach DeMeco Ryans consistently downplayed Stroud's right shoulder soreness during voluntary OTAs, saying he had "no concerns," and the 2023 first-round pick is indeed now ready to resume building chemistry with a new wide receiver corps that adds veteran Christian Kirk and rookies Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel behind No. 1 option Nico Collins.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said Tuesday that Stroud is dealing with "general soreness" related to his right throwing shoulder, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.

Stroud was kept from throwing early at voluntary OTAs due to what was initially called a minor pectoral injury, but Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston now reports the third-year quarterback is dealing with muscle tightness in his throwing shoulder. Still, Ryans repeated that there are "no concerns" with Stroud, per Jeremy Bergman of NFL.com, and that the team is "taking extra precaution with him, but he'll be good to go." Stroud still has ample time, roughly a month and a half, to get fully healthy for the start of training camp. The most notable consequence of his current absence from practice is missing early opportunities to build chemistry with new wideouts Christian Kirk, Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel, but the majority of such reps will be taken during training camp and the preseason. At that stage, Stroud will also face the challenge of adapting to a new-look offensive line that may take a step backwards, even after struggling in 2024, due to the trade of Laremy Tunsil to Washington.

Stroud isn't currently throwing during voluntary team activities due to a tight pectoral, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Stroud watched from the sideline Friday during practice while backup quarterback Davis Mills ran the offense. Per Wilson, Stroud's injury isn't considered a long-term problem, and the star QB could increase his activity as soon as next week. Texans offensive coordinator Nick Caley downplayed the issue Friday, saying that there are "no concerns whatsoever" about Stroud, echoing what coach DeMeco Ryans stated earlier in the week.

Stroud completed 19 of 28 passes for 245 yards without a touchdown or an interception in Saturday's 23-14 divisional-round loss to Kansas City. He added 42 rushing yards on six carries.

The story of the game was the Texans;' offensive line's inability to protect Stroud. The second-year QB was brought down eight times, three times by George Karlaftis alone, and he needed help getting off the field after the last sack late in the fourth quarter while apparently dealing with a foot or ankle injury. He did return for the final play however, a kneel-down with seven seconds left, so Stroud would seem to be OK. His overall body of work took a step back from his rookie campaign, and Stroud completed 63.2 percent of his passes for 3,727 yards and a 20:12 TD:INT over 17 regular-season games while also being sacked 52 times -- 14 more than in 2023. Injuries to his wide receiver corps played a role in Stroud's regression, but expect Houston to focus on upgrading his protection this offseason as well.

Stroud completed 22 of 33 passes for 282 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Saturday's 32-12 win over the Chargers. He added six rushes for 42 yards.

Stroud took some time to get the offense moving as a lost fumble by John Metchie and an interception ended a few of Houston's drives early on. However, Stroud hit his stride on a possession late in the second quarter, connecting on long passes of 34 and 37 yards before delivering a 13-yard touchdown to Nico Collins. That was his only score of the game, but Stroud put together an efficient performance the rest of the way to earn the second postseason victory of his career.

Stroud completed all six of his pass attempts for 50 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-14 win over the Titans.

The Texans entered Week 18 locked into the fourth seed in the AFC, so Stroud played for only one drive. He ended a disappointing season in strong fashion, completing four of his passes to Nico Collins -- including a two-yard touchdown. Stroud and the Texans will now await a home matchup against either the Steelers or Chargers in the first round of the playoffs.

Stroud admitted to being banged up Tuesday as the Texans prepare for a Week 18 in Tennessee, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans acknowledged Stroud is dealing with soreness as many players in the NFL are at this point of the season. The quarterback practiced Monday, and it looks like he'll be available to play Sunday, although Houston is locked in as the fourth seed for the playoffs and can't improve its position. Ryans suggested that all players healthy enough to suit up will play, including Stroud. The coach also acknowledged the team needs to play better following a 31-2 loss to the Ravens last week, which could impact his decision to have Stroud get on the field for at least a portion of the regular-season finale.

Stroud completed 17 of 31 pass attempts for 185 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while adding seven rushing yards on his only attempt in Wednesday's 31-2 loss to the Ravens.

Stroud never looked settled in the pocket against Baltimore, missing a handful of short passes to open receivers that doomed several offensive drives. The slumping sophomore was forced to miss one play at the end of the first half after losing feeling in his throwing arm following a sack. Stroud promptly returned to action on the ensuing play, but he still couldn't figure out any answers to the Ravens' swarming defense in the second half. The Texans already locked up first place in a struggling AFC South division in 2024, but Stroud and this offense figure to see action in Week 18 against the Titans following Wednesday's horrid display.

Stroud completed 23 of 39 passes for 244 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Saturday's 27-19 loss to the Chiefs. He added two rushing attempts for 23 yards.

Stroud bounced back from an interception on the opening drive by driving the Texans into the red zone before settling for a field goal on the second possession and finally breaking through for a 10-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Schultz on the third drive. He was picked off again late in the first half, which helped the Chiefs take a 17-10 lead into the locker room. Stroud then threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Tank Dell in the third quarter, on which Dell suffered a serious knee injury which left the quarterback visibly distraught. Houston's offense seemed shaken the rest of the way and didn't get particularly close to tying the game down the stretch despite it being a one-score game the entire fourth quarter. Stroud will have to get by with limited talent at wide receiver behind Nico Collins on Christmas against a beatable Baltimore secondary.

Stroud completed 18 of 26 passes for 131 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and added four yards on six rushes in the Texans' 20-12 win over the Dolphins on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.

Stroud salvaged a performance that featured his second-lowest passing yardage total of the season with a pair of six-yard touchdown passes to Nico Collins in the second and third quarters, respectively. Otherwise, the talented second-year signal-caller scuffled against an aggressive and talented Dolphins defense that sacked him four times. Stroud has a pair of multi-touchdown-pass efforts within a three-game span for only the second time all season heading into a Week 16 Saturday afternoon road showdown against the Chiefs.

Stroud completed 22 of 34 passes for 242 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions and added five rushes for seven yards in the Texans' 23-20 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.

Stroud put together a solid performance that saw him spread the ball around to seven different targets and put together his first interception-free effort in the last four games. Stroud connected with Dalton Schultz from 22 yards out early in the fourth quarter for his only touchdown of the game, and he's now thrown for at least 232 yards in four consecutive contests while generating a 4:5 TD:INT in that same span. Stroud and the Texans next host the Dolphins for a Week 15 matchup on Sunday, Dec. 15 following a Week 14 bye.

Stroud completed 20 of 33 passes for 247 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 32-27 loss to the Titans. He added three rushes for 18 yards.

Stroud took advantage of excellent field position to throw for a 19-yard touchdown on his first pass attempt of the game. He continued his strong start by connecting with Nico Collins and Tank Dell for explosive gains of 54 and 39 yards, while also connecting with Collins for a five-yard touchdown pass -- all of which came prior to halftime. However, Stroud was sacked four times in the second half and picked up just 98 passing yards on 16 attempts, leading to a disappointing loss. Positively, Stroud threw for multiple touchdowns for the first time since Week 5.

Stroud completed 23 of 34 passes for 257 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and rushed three times for 26 yards in the Texans' 34-10 win over the Cowboys on Monday night.

Stroud didn't have to do an inordinate amount through the air with Joe Mixon once again putting together a dominant performance that included three rushing TDs. The second-year signal-caller still furnished a solid yardage total and connected with eight different targets, including on four occasions with the returning Nico Collins. Stroud's yardage total was his second highest since Week 5, and he'll next take aim at the Titans' defense in a Week 12 home divisional clash.

Stroud completed 19 of 33 passes for 232 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 26-23 loss to the Lions. He added one rush for five yards.

Stroud was in complete control in the first half, and his form was on display during Houston's final drive before halftime when he went 4-for-6 for 66 yards and a 15-yard touchdown. However, he struggled in the final two quarters, when he went 5-for-13 for 68 yards and a pair of picks. Overall, Stroud has now failed to record multiple touchdowns in four consecutive games while topping 250 passing yards just once in that span, limiting his fantasy appeal.

In an effort to provide better protection for Stroud, the Texans are moving center Juice Scruggs to left guard, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Jarrett Patterson will step in as the starting center.

Stroud was sacked a season-high eight times and suffered another 11 hit in last week's loss to the Jets. For the season, the quarterback has absorbed 30 sacks, second most in the NFL. To prevent more abuse from defensive lines after the team placed starting left guard Kenyon Green (shoulder) on injured reserve, the Texans feel Scruggs can focus on his blocking assignments without having to make line calls on protection adjustments. That duty now falls to Patterson, a 2023 sixth-round pick out of Notre Dame, who is regarded as a cerebral, technique-strong lineman with a keen understanding of pass-rush schemes.

Stroud completed 11 of 30 passes for 191 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed eight times for 59 yards in the Texans' 21-13 loss to the Jets on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble and failed to bring in his only target.

For the second time in three games, Stroud was under 200 passing yards and a 50.0 percent completion rate. In Thursday's instance, he also was constantly harassed to the tune of eight sacks, including one that resulted in a fumble deep in Jets territory, and 11 hits overall. The second-year signal-caller was naturally down yet another key weapon in Stefon Diggs (IR, knee), leaving Tank Dell (six receptions, 126 yards) to garner the majority of Stroud's attention. Despite the unfavorable end result Thursday, brighter days should be ahead beginning with a Week 10 Sunday night home matchup against the Lions, considering Nico Collins (hamstring) is expected to be activated from injured reserve ahead of the interconference clash.

Stroud completed 25 of 37 passes for 285 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions and added one rush for minus-4 yards in the Texans' 23-20 win over the Colts on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.

Stroud was coming off a career-low 86 passing yards in a Week 7 loss to the Packers, but he bounced back with his third-highest total of the season. The second-year signal-caller connected with Tank Dell for his one touchdown pass, hitting the second-year wideout from seven yards out late in the first half, and he recorded completions to eight different players overall. Stroud will still be without top wideout Nico Collins (hamstring) for at least one more game, and he'll have a short turnaround before doing battle with the Jets' talented secondary in a Week 9 Halloween road matchup Thursday night that he may not have Stefon Diggs (knee) for either.

Watt despite working behind an offensive line missing both starting tackles and down to a third-string center. The rookie looked like anything but an inexperienced player while facing a defense that had given Patrick Mahomes and his squad plenty of trouble in Week 2, not taking any sacks or committing any turnovers while connecting with eight different pass catchers. Stroud hit fellow rookie Tank Dell, who he's already flashed impressive chemistry with, for a 68-yard score in the fourth quarter that served as the first-year signal-caller's longest pass of his nascent career, a play preceded by a four-yard scoring strike to little-used tight end Brevin Jordan halfway through the second period. Stroud practiced in full Friday and will continue to play through his minor shoulder issue. Playing from behind all afternoon in Week 2, Stroud threw for 384 yards and two touchdowns. He's not yet a fantasy QB1 but has positioned himself on the back end of the QB2 map.

Added to the injury report Friday after he was a limited participant in the Texans' final Week 2 practice session due to soreness in his (right) throwing shoulder, Stroud took a questionable tag into the weekend. As anticipated, Stroud was able to warm up earlier Sunday without any major restrictions, so he'll get the green light to make his second career start. The rookie signal-caller will be working behind a depleted offensive line, however, as left tackle Laremy Tunsil (knee) is inactive, while right tackle Tytus Howard (hand), left guard Kenyon Green (shoulder) and center Juice Scruggs (hamstring) all remain on injured reserve.

Coach DeMeco Ryans named Stroud the Texans' Week 1 starting quarterback after Sunday's preseason win over the Saints, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Stroud didn't see much volume during Sunday's preseason finale, but he completed two of four pass attempts for 16 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. The touchdown was his first of the preseason, and the rookie No. 2 overall pick will officially begin the 2023 season under center for Houston. In total, Stroud completed 11 of 20 passes for 89 yards, a touchdown and an interception over his three preseason games. Stroud has some rushing potential, but his 2023 fantasy upside is limited because he'll be running an offense that struggled last season while also playing under a first-year head coach.

Stroud, who also started the Texans' preseason opener against the Patriots, has been taking full first-team reps for almost two weeks, according toBrooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle. Though Houston's Week 1 starting signal-caller hasn't been confirmed, Pelissero suggests that this weekend's assignment represents "another step toward the No. 2 overall pick being Houston's QB1."

Davis Mills was the first QB through drills at OTAs on Tuesday, followed by Stroud and then Case Keenum. The No. 2 overall pick figures to make starts as a rookie, but it won't automatically be Week 1 if he struggles this spring/summer. Ryan said a starter won't be determined until training camp and the preseason come around.

For much of the pre-draft process, Stroud was considered a candidate to go first overall, and it's difficult to identify ways he could have played much better at Ohio State. This selection gives the Texans a credible franchise quarterback prospect, and one who will perhaps jumpstart the Houston passing game after throwing 85 touchdown passes to just 12 interceptions over the last two years. Stroud (6-foot-3, 214 pounds) is not a big quarterback and is unlikely to run much at the NFL level, but his pocket movement is adequate and his quick release allows him to pose as a big-play threat as a passer.
