That's the ideal scenario for IDP value, with DeJean playing safety in the base defense and slot corner in nickel packages. The other options are to play him as an outside cornerback in the base defense -- opposite Quinyon Mitchell -- or to take DeJean off the field and only use him as a nickel. An every-down role with snaps at both safety and slot corner could help make DeJean an IDP star.

DeJean is set to start over Avonte Maddox as the Eagles' nickel corner Sunday against the Browns, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.

The Eagles' defense hasn't lived up to expectations early this season, and some changes have ensued. In addition to Devin White being released, DeJean will now start as the team's slot corner. DeJean has played only seven defensive snaps so far in his rookie season, so he could have some growing pains early on.

The Eagles placed DeJean (hamstring) on the active/non-football injury list Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Per Fowler, DeJean sustained the hamstring injury during offseason training and is expected to miss at least three weeks. That could put DeJean on track to return for the Eagles' second preseason game against the Patriots on Aug. 15. The 2024 second-round pick out of Iowa logged seven interceptions (including three returned for touchdowns) in three collegiate seasons, and he is expected to play multiple positions on defense, per Brooks Kubena of The Athletic.

DeJean is being exposed to more than one position in the offseason, Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports.

Kubena further reported that Eagles pass game coordinator Christian Parker said DeJean "can handle it mentally" and might "have a home" by training camp. The 2023 All-American at Iowa played cornerback, safety and a hybrid linebacker/defensive back role during his college career.
