Four TDs in primetime win
Prescott completed 25 of 33 passes for 268 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions in Monday's 33-16 win over the Raiders. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Prescott and the Dallas offense stalled on the opening drive with both CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens on the sideline for disciplinary reasons. However, the trio picked things up considerably from there, with Prescott completing eight passes of at least 15 yards, including touchdowns of 37 and 18 yards to Pickens and Lamb, respectively. Prescott snapped a two-game streak without multiple touchdowns, and he now has at least three scores in five of his last seven contests.

Constantly pressured in Week 9 loss
Prescott completed 24 of 39 passes for 250 yards with a touchdown and an interception while adding four rushes for 34 yards in the Cowboys' 27-17 loss to the Cardinals on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
Prescott took just two sacks against the Broncos in Week 8 but was pressured quite often in the loss, and the Cardinals then were much more successful getting home Monday night while racking up five sacks. The porous protection was particularly disappointing considering center Cooper Beebe returned from an ankle injury to anchor the Cowboys' offensive line, although Prescott was at least able to bounce back from the season-low-tying 188 yards he'd thrown for against Denver. The veteran signal-caller's one touchdown toss went to Ryan Flournoy from five yards out early in the fourth quarter, and Prescott's rushing yardage total qualified as a new season high. Prescott and his teammates will now have a Week 10 bye to regroup before returning to action with a Week 11 road matchup against the Raiders on Monday night, Nov. 17.

No TDs, two INTs in loss at Denver
Prescott completed 19 of 31 passes for 188 yards, with no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 44-24 loss to the Broncos. He also rushed six times for 31 yards.
ANALYSIS
Prescott came in having thrown at least three touchdown passes in each of his previous four starts, but his momentum ground to a halt against Denver's stout defense. He eventually came out of the game in the fourth quarter with the game out of reach, and backup Joe Milton promptly threw a touchdown pass, but it would take more than that to create a quarterback controversy in Dallas. Prescott and the passing game will need to continue delivering big numbers to give the Cowboys a chance given Dallas' deficiencies on defense. Up next is a primetime home game against the Cardinals on Monday Night Football.
Oct 19, 2025
Tosses three TDs in blowout win
Prescott completed 21 of 30 pass attempts for 264 yards and three touchdowns while taking five carries for seven yards in Sunday's 44-22 rout of the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Prescott welcomed his favorite target CeeDee Lamb (ankle) back with open arms and a beautifully-placed ball for a 74-yard touchdown on Dallas' final possession of the first quarter. The 31-year-old Prescott finished the contest registering at least three touchdown passes for the fourth consecutive week. A red-hot Prescott upped his season totals to 1,881 passing yards and 16 touchdowns on a career-best 72 percent completion rate through seven starts. With all of his weapons back at full strength, Prescott should be treated as a top-10 fantasy QB heading into next Sunday's tilt against Denver.
Oct 12, 2025
Excellent in defeat
Prescott completed 25 of 34 passes for 261 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Prescott continued his excellent season, throwing for three or more touchdowns in his third straight game while also surpassing 250 passing yards for the fourth time in six contests on the campaign. He showed an ongoing strong connection with George Pickens, connecting with him for three gains of more than 30 yards, including scores from 45 and 34 yards away. Prescott's outlook could improve further in Week 7 due to the potential return of CeeDee Lamb (ankle), though Prescott has proven plenty capable of producing without one of his star pass catchers.
Oct 5, 2025
Four more TDs in win over Jets
Prescott completed 18 of 29 passes for 237 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's 37-22 win over the Jets. He added 28 rushing yards on seven carries.
ANALYSIS
For the second straight game, Prescott chucked multiple TDs without having CeeDee Lamb (ankle) on the field, this time hitting Jake Ferguson twice and George Pickens and Javonte Williams once each. Prescott has a 7:0 TD:INT over the last two contests, and Sunday's performance may have been even more impressive considering four of the Cowboys' five starting offensive linemen were sidelined. The veteran QB figures to keep rolling in Week 6 against a Panthers defense that just gave up three passing TDs to Tua Tagovailoa.
Sep 29, 2025
Breaks out with four TDs on SNF
Prescott completed 31 of 40 pass attempts for 319 yards and three touchdowns while taking his only carry for a two-yard touchdown in Sunday's 40-40 tie against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Prescott broke out of his early-season slump in a big way, matching his passing touchdown total through his previous three games in one fell swoop. The 31-year-old even added a rare rushing touchdown on a designed run from in close for his fourth score of the contest. The loss of star receiver CeeDee Lamb (ankle) certainly hurts Prescott's stock for as long as his top option remains out. That said, Prescott also proved that he is nowhere near washed up with Sunday's monster fantasy output. Managers with restored faith in Dallas' signal-caller will be rolling him out against the Jets in Week 5.
Sep 22, 2025
Misses Lamb in Week 3 loss
Prescott completed 31 of 40 passes for 251 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys got off to a disjointed start on offense, as Javonte Williams fumbled on the opening possession, with CeeDee Lamb (ankle) departing for the game one drive later. Prescott kept Dallas competitive for a while, guiding the team to a pair of field goals before connecting with George Pickens from two yards away for a touchdown. Prescott faded in the second half without his top pass catcher, averaging only 6.5 yards per attempt while throwing two picks. His fantasy outlook in Week 4 will depend significantly on Lamb's status, but a matchup against the Packers will be tough regardless.
Sep 14, 2025
Big numbers against Big Blue
Prescott completed 38 of 52 passes for 361 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 40-37 overtime win over the Giants. He added 17 rushing yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
It was Prescott's highest yardage total since Week 3 of last season, when he fired up 379 yards in a loss to the Ravens. The veteran QB rebounded in a big way from a quiet Week 1 effort, but the Cowboys' defensive issues may require him to continue putting the ball in the air a lot more often than expected. Prescott could be poised for another big performance in Week 3 against a Bears defense that just got torched for five passing TDs by Jared Goff and the Lions.
Sep 5, 2025
Solid in Week 1 loss
Prescott completed 21 of 34 passes for 188 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions while adding one rush for three yards in the Cowboys' 34-20 loss to the Eagles on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Prescott spearheaded the upset-minded Cowboys through a productive first two quarters, leading 53- and 88-yard scoring marches in the first two quarters that had Dallas up by a 14-7 margin at one point. Both drives culminated in Javonte Williams rushing touchdowns, but Prescott played mistake-free football while frequently connecting with CeeDee Lamb. However, Prescott and new addition George Pickens had some trouble connecting in their first game together -- albeit because of defensive pass interference in a couple of instances -- and Lamb then failed to find the handle on a couple of the quarterback's throws in the fourth quarter, including on a perfectly thrown fourth-down lob down the left side of the field that Lamb dove for but couldn't secure. Prescott and Pickens will have some extra time to build chemistry ahead of the Cowboys' Week 2 game, which will be their home opener against the Giants on Sunday, Sept. 14.

To sit out preseason finale
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday that Prescott will not suit up for Friday's preseason finale against the Falcons, and that Joe Milton will get the start at quarterback, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott won't suit up for any exhibition action this preseason, with Dallas instead opting to prioritize the veteran signal-caller's health after he was limited to just eight regular-season appearances in 2024 due to a torn hamstring. The 32-year-old was unproductive from a fantasy standpoint when healthy last season, but he enters the 2025 campaign as an interesting bounceback candidate, largely due to the addition of a true downfield playmaker in George Pickens to take the pressure off No. 1 wideout CeeDee Lamb. Lamb and Pickens will be joined in three-wide sets by Jalen Tolbert, who took a step forward with a 49-610-7 receiving line while suiting up for all 17 regular-season games in 2024, plus a capable red zone threat in TE Jake Ferguson.
Aug 14, 2025
Won't play Saturday
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Thursday that Prescott will not start Saturday's preseason matchup against the Ravens, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott also sat out Dallas' preseason opener against the Rams last weekend, meaning his final opportunity to suit up for exhibition reps will be Friday, Aug. 22 against the Falcons. In his stead, No. 2 quarterback Joe Milton (elbow), and third-stringer Will Grier figure to again split reps. The 32-year-old signal-caller has spent training camp picking up an expanded scheme, much of which carries over from Schottenheimer's tenure as offensive coordinator last season, plus building chemistry with new No. 2 receiver George Pickens.
Aug 9, 2025
Staying on sideline Saturday
Prescott will not suit up for Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is sitting out Saturday, as expected, and will be joined on the sidelines by wideouts CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens, plus running back Javonte Williams. With Dak not starting Saturday, Dallas will receive a chance to evaluate Joe Milton and Will Grier in preseason action.
Aug 7, 2025
Not planning to play Saturday
Prescott said Thursday he doesn't expect to suit up for Saturday's preseason opener against the Rams, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott has had his workload managed throughout training camp, but he's fully recovered from the torn hamstring that required season-ending surgery and limited him to just eight games in 2024. The 32-year-old signal-caller could be in more serious consideration to handle some preseason reps on Saturday, Aug. 16 versus the Ravens or Friday, Aug. 22 against the Falcons. Joe Milton retook the field Thursday after having exited Tuesday's joint practice early due to a thumb issue, and he figures to start against Los Angeles on Saturday with Prescott in line to sit.
Jul 22, 2025
Camp workload to be curtailed
Prescott will have his workload limited in training camp, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. "Now that he's in the over-30 club, we're going to be smart with some of the things we do with him," new head coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday. "He is anti-that. He wants to do as much as possible. Luckily we have the trump card with him on that."
ANALYSIS
Prescott played just eight games last season before going down with a torn hamstring that required surgery, and while the 31-year-old has declared himself fully healthy to begin camp, Dallas isn't going to take any chances with him. The team's $240 million quarterback is likely to see little, if any, preseason action as well as the Cowboys focus on getting him ready for a Week 1 battle with the Super Bowl champion Eagles.
Jul 8, 2025
Declares himself fully healthy
Prescott (hamstring) said Tuesday that he is fully healthy and will be a full participant at the start of training camp, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott will have a checkup with team doctors ahead of training camp, but he says he's as healthy as can be headed into his 10th NFL season. The veteran quarterback was an on-field participant at OTAs earlier in the spring but hadn't yet been cleared for contact, so it's no surprise to see him nearing 100 percent with training camp opening up later this month. Prescott underwent surgery to repair a partial avulsion of his right hamstring back in November. He's currently coming off the board as a fringe QB1 in early fantasy drafts.
May 21, 2025
Moving well at OTAs
Prescott (hamstring) took part in on-field drills during the Cowboys' second day of organized team activities on Tuesday and moved well while throwing passes to wide receivers, including new teammate George Pickens, Calvin Watkin of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott said he's "just not cleared for contact" but can otherwise "pretty much do it all" and is "feeling great" in his recovery from hamstring surgery undergone last November. While the Cowboys will continue to take a cautious approach with Prescott's recovery, the veteran quarterback said in April that his right hamstring tear has improved to the point that he feels confident he could suit up for a game, if theoretically needed. The addition of Pickens, whom Dallas traded for in a deal with Pittsburgh early May, provides Prescott with a playmaking No. 2 receiver option capable of opening things up for superstar CeeDee Lamb, significantly boosting the outlook of the Cowboy's passing offense. While his return to full health remains crucial, Prescott currently looks well positioned to bounce back in 2025 within new head coach Brian Schottenheimer's offense.

Says hamstring is improving
Prescott said Friday that he is progressing in his recovery from a torn right hamstring to the extent that he could theoretically play now, if needed, per ESPN.com. "If I had to play a game today, I definitely could do that," Prescott stated.
ANALYSIS
Prescott's season came to an end after just eight games last season due to the hamstring injury, and he underwent surgery in mid-November. The veteran quarterback has been rehabbing since, and his comments Friday suggest that everything has gone smoothly in his recovery. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said in late March that Prescott will be limited during the initial portion of the Cowboys' offseason program, but Jones also mentioned that Prescott's rehab was going well. It appears both the organization and the player are eyeing a cautious approach to organized team activities, which begin in May, as Prescott indicated Friday that he'll take part in some capacity but added, "Then again I just understand my age, what I've had, what I've went through, it's about being my best in the fall. So I'm not rushing anything, but I'm where I want to be."

Slated to be limited this offseason
Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones said Sunday that Prescott (hamstring) will participate in a limited fashion to begin the offseason program, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones added that Prescott is continuing to do well in his recovery from a season-ending torn right hamstring, saying, "He's very thrilled with where he is. And I know the trainers are too," according to Machota." The 31-year-old underwent season-ending surgery in mid-November, and his timeline for a full recovery was expected to take about three months, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. As one of the teams that hired a new head coach, Dallas' offseason workouts are scheduled to start April 7, which is two weeks earlier than teams with no head coaching change. These early workouts will be the best opportunity to evaluate Prescott's health until the mandatory OTAs and minicamp that typically occur during mid-June. The start date for this offseason's OTAs has yet to be determined. The quarterback had middling production through eight games last season with 11 touchdowns to eight interceptions while completing 65 percent of his passes. Participating in the offseason program under new head coach Brian Scho

Restructures to open up cap space
Prescott (hamstring) and the Cowboys agreed to terms Wednesday on a contract restructure that opens up $36.6 million in cap space for the team, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott's restructure comes just after a similar move with CeeDee Lamb's contract, creating a total of $56.6 million in open cap space for Dallas, with only a week remaining before the official start of free agency. The pair of transactions signals some potential aggressiveness on the Cowboys' part in free agency, whether to bring in more playmakers for new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, or a potential attempt at a new deal for three-time All-Pro Micah Parsons. The team also has new holes along the O-line, in the wake of Zack Martin (ankle) retiring. Prescott remains on track in his recovery from a torn right hamstring, for which he underwent surgery back in November.
Feb 12, 2025
Recovery proceeding well
Prescott (hamstring) said Wednesday his "health is good" and that he's "really looking to amp it up here recently" in terms of his rehab process, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott noted that he is now "12 weeks or so" removed from his surgical procedure, which was undergone to address a season-ending torn right hamstring sustained Nov. 3. The 31-year-old quarterback indicated that his recovery is moving in a positive direction, and his expected recovery timeframe leaves open the possibility that Prescott could be fully cleared for the beginning of Dallas' offseason activities. Prescott also noted excitement about new head coach Brian Schottenheimer's offensive approach, singling out a commitment to the running game and increased play-action as improvements being brought to the Cowboys' offense. His numbers were underwhelming across eight regular-season appearances in 2024, with 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions, so Prescott's fantasy prognosis for the 2025 campaign will depend both on his returning to full health, and Schottenheimer's ability to provide a spark on offense.

Moves to injured reserve
The Cowboys placed Prescott (hamstring) on injured reserve Monday.
ANALYSIS
This move is merely procedural for Prescott, who underwent surgery to address the partial avulsion of his right hamstring last Wednesday following the injury he suffered Week 9 in Atlanta. While Prescott's recovery process is expected to take upwards of three months, Dallas will turn to Cooper Rush under center for the time being. In addition to Rush, the Cowboys also have 2021 first-round pick Trey Lance on the active roster.
Nov 13, 2024
Has surgery Wednesday
Prescott underwent surgery Wednesday to address the partial avulsion of his right hamstring, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott reportedly will require 4-to-5 months to recover fully, which means he should be ready for some, if not all, of the offseason program. With his season over, he'll end the 2024 campaign with 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions on 64.7 percent passing and 13 carries for 54 yards and one touchdown in eight appearances. Cooper Rush will continue to direct the Cowboys offense, but the potential exists for Trey Lance to see time under center or even start at some point over the final nine regular-season games.
Nov 12, 2024
Season-ending surgery confirmed
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said that Prescott will undergo season-ending surgery in New York on Wednesday to address a partial avulsion of his right hamstring, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After seeking one final medical opinion on his hamstring Monday, Prescott has elected to proceed with surgery rather than treating the injury through rest and rehab. According to Jones, Prescott's long-term prognosis is "wonderful," and while the quarterback will miss the remainder of the season, he should be ready to go for training camp, if he isn't fully cleared for OTAs. Cooper Rush started under center in Sunday's loss to the Eagles and will again direct the offense in Week 11 against the Texans, though it wouldn't be surprising if the Cowboys also gave an extended look at 2021 first-round draft pick Trey Lance at some point before the season's end. Prescott will conclude his ninth NFL campaign with a 64.7 percent completion rate on 286 pass attempts for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions to go with 54 yards and a touchdown on 13 rushing attempts over his eight appearances.
Nov 10, 2024
One more meeting with doctor on tap
Prescott, who has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Eagles, will meet with another specialist Monday before a decision is made on whether he'll undergo season-ending surgery to address a partial avulsion of his right hamstring, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott has already sought several medical opinions on his injury, with all having reportedly recommended surgery. He'll meet with one final medical expert Monday, but if the doctor agrees with the previous assessments of his injury, Prescott will undergo surgery Wednesday, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. An official recovery timeline wouldn't be provided until surgery is completed, but a procedure of this sort typically entails about a four-month recovery period. Cooper Rush will take over as the Cowboys' starting quarterback in Week 10, and the Cowboys could also deploy certain packages that take advantage of backup Trey Lance's rushing ability.
Nov 9, 2024
Likely season-ending surgery on tap
Prescott is expected to undergo season-ending surgery to repair the partial avulsion to his right hamstring, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The recovery timeline seems to be in the range of four to five months meaning the Pro Bowl quarterback will not play the rest of this season. The Cowboys didn't place Prescott on injured reserve Saturday, but the team could be saving the additional roster spot for another time. Cooper Rush will take over as the team's immediate starter, but it's possible Trey Lance could be worked into the mix if the Cowboys fall out of playoff contention.
Nov 8, 2024
IR stint likely
Executive vice president Stephen Jones said Friday on 105.3 The Fan Dallas that the Cowboys likely will place Prescott (hamstring) on injured reserve, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
An IR stint for Prescott has been bandied about since Tuesday and the ensuing diagnosis of a partial avulsion of his right hamstring became known one day later. Earlier Friday, team owner Jerry Jones expressed uncertainty on 105.3 The Fan Dallas about Prescott going on the reserve list, stating, "He doesn't want surgery. He wants to be on the field and go for it. We'll see how it goes here." But Stephen Jones was more forthright Friday afternoon. "I think it's probably no way he can be back in the four-week timeframe, so he'll put him over there, and we'll have that roster spot to use in terms of the next four weeks and go from there." While the move isn't official yet, it'll need to be by 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday in order to clear a roster spot ahead of Sunday's game against the Eagles. As long as Prescott is sidelined, Cooper Rush will start Week 10 and beyond, with Trey Lance backing him up and perhaps even getting a chance to start himself at some point.
Nov 8, 2024
Unsure about injured reserve
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday that he's still not sure if Prescott (hamstring) will be placed on injured reserve, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
"[Prescott] doesn't want surgery," Jone said. "He wants to be on the field and go for it. We'll just see how it goes here." Recent reports suggest Prescott likely will miss at least 4-to-6 weeks, with a partial avulsion of his right hamstring potentially requiring season-ending surgery. Jones is suggesting that Prescott hopes to return before the four-week mark, but it's unclear if the goal is realistic or if he'd be able to play at anything close to his usual level of performance. Fantasy managers should brace for the possibility of Prescott missing the rest of the season and giving way to backup QB Cooper Rush, with some chance of third-stringer Trey Lance eventually making starts.
Nov 6, 2024
Out 4-to-6 weeks at least
Prescott sustained a partial avulsion of his hamstring Sunday in Atlanta, and his best-case recovery timetable is 4-to-6 weeks, Jane Slater of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is expected to be placed on injured reserve as a result, but the Cowboys have yet to make such a transaction as they seek varying opinions on how to proceed with his rehab. Rest and icing the region are the likely routes to take, but there's also a possibility that he'll require surgery, depending on the Grade of the injury. Cooper Rush will step in for Prescott for as long as the latter is sidelined, while Trey Lance will be active on game days as the backup quarterback.
Nov 5, 2024
Likely to go on IR
Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Prescott (hamstring) will miss "an extended period of time" and is likely to be placed on injured reserve, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Mike McCarthy had already announced Monday that Prescott would miss the Cowboys' Week 10 game against the Eagles due to the hamstring injury he suffered in the Week 9 loss to the Falcons, but Jones' comments imply that the franchise quarterback will miss at least three more contests beyond this weekend's. Cooper Rush will step in as the Cowboys' new starting quarterback beginning this Sunday, while Trey Lance will move into the backup role after previously serving as Dallas' No. 3 signal-caller. While Jones didn't offer up a clear recovery timeline for Prescott, the 3-5 Cowboys could elect to hold the 31-year-old quarterback out beyond four games if the team finds itself out of playoff contention by the time he would first eligible to return from IR in Week 14.
Nov 4, 2024
Ruled out for Week 10
Speaking Monday, coach Mike McCarthy said Prescott (hamstring) will not play in Week 10 against the Eagles next Sunday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It had already been reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that Prescott is looking at a multi-week absence, so this comes as no surprise. The exact timeline of Prescott's recovery remains unclear, and a trip to injured reserve is on the table of possibilities. Cooper Rush will make the start against Philadelphia next Sunday. Trey Lance figures to be Rush's backup.
Nov 4, 2024
Expected to miss multiple weeks
Prescott is expected to miss multiple weeks with the hamstring injury he suffered in Sunday's loss to the Falcons, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The injury is worse than initially feared, Rapoport added, and Prescott will get a second opinion to confirm the diagnosis. A trip to injured reserve could be in Prescott's future, but the Cowboys may choose to keep him on the roster in the event he's healed before missing the four games he'd be required to sit out if on injured reserve. Cooper Rush and Trey Lance are Dallas' backup quarterbacks, and it's been Rush who's been active on game days as the QB2. One of them looks to be in line to start next Sunday's divisional tilt against the Eagles.
Nov 3, 2024
Scheduled for MRI
Prescott is slated to undergo an MRI on the hamstring he injured during Sunday's loss to the Falcons, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Archer, Prescott said afterward that he "felt something he never felt before" in his hamstring prior to his exit from the contest. While the QB noted that he's a quick healer and that it will take "a lot" for him to "not to be out there," his status is nonetheless worth tracking closely as next Sunday's game against the Eagles approaches. If Prescott is unavailable, Cooper Rush would be in line to draw the Week 10 start in his place.
Nov 3, 2024
Hurts hamstring Sunday
Prescott won't return to Sunday's game against the Falcons due to a hamstring injury, Nick Eatman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to being forced out of the contest, Prescott completed 18 of his 24 pass attempts for 133 yards and a TD, while adding three carries for 30 yards. In his absence, Cooper Rush is in at quarterback for the Cowboys.
Oct 28, 2024
Two TDs in failed comeback bid
Prescott completed 25 of 38 passes for 243 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the 49ers. He also rushed once for minus-1 yard.
ANALYSIS
Prescott's first-half numbers weren't pretty (110 passing yards and an interception), but the Cowboys nonetheless took a 10-6 lead into the locker room. San Francisco's offense woke up in the third quarter while Dallas' remained dormant, as the 49ers scored 21 unanswered third-quarter points while Prescott threw for only six yards and his second interception of the night. He finally heated up in the fourth quarter with touchdown passes of seven and 20 yards to CeeDee Lamb before four consecutive incompletions on Dallas' final possession. After throwing a league-high 36 touchdowns compared to nine interceptions last season, Prescott has a pedestrian 10:8 TD:INT heading into a Week 9 road game against the Falcons.
Oct 13, 2024
Pulled late in blowout loss
Prescott completed 17 of 33 passes for 178 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 47-9 loss to the Lions. He added one rush for one yard.
ANALYSIS
Prescott got off to a decent start, leading the Cowboys to a nine-play, 54-yard drive that resulted in a field goal on the team's opening possession. He went 4-for-6 for 46 yards -- he also had a pick called back for defensive holding -- but that was the highlight of his game. From there, he completed only 13 of 27 passes while averaging 4.9 yards per attempt with a pair of interceptions that led directly to 10 points for the Lions. Given the state of the game, Prescott sat most of the fourth quarter and failed to throw a touchdown for the first time this season. The Cowboys will get a well-timed bye in Week 7.
Oct 7, 2024
Leads team to comeback victory
Prescott completed 29 of 42 pass attempts for 352 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions while adding three rushing yards on one attempt in Sunday's 20-17 win over Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
A lengthy weather delay and slow start on offense had the Cowboys in danger of falling to 2-3 on the season. Prescott carried the team in the second half, throwing two touchdowns to lift his team past a difficult defense on the road. The 31-year-old connected with Jalen Tolbert on his second scoring strike in the closing moments of Sunday night's win. Prescott has thrown for two touchdowns and no interceptions for three weeks running, eclipsing 350 passing yards in two of those three contests. The 3-2 Cowboys will prepare to face the Lions in a home tilt next Sunday.
Sep 26, 2024
Two TD passes in win
Prescott completed 22 of 27 passes for 221 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions while adding two carries for minus-1 yard in the Cowboys' 20-15 win over the Giants on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
It wasn't the prettiest of wins for the Cowboys, but Prescott was able to play a clean, highly efficient game while taking only one sack. The veteran signal-caller connected with seven different targets, hitting the duo of CeeDee Lamb and Jake Ferguson for seven catches apiece to lead the way. Prescott linked up with Rico Dowdle and Lamb for touchdown passes of 15 and 55 yards, respectively, in the first half, generating his second two-TD tally through the air in the last four days. Prescott and his teammates next gear up for a challenging road interconference clash with the Steelers on Sunday night, Oct. 6.
Sep 22, 2024
Attempts 51 passes in loss
Prescott completed 28 of 51 pass attempts for 379 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 28-25 loss to Baltimore. He added two rushes for seven yards and an additional touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Prescott and the Cowboys fell behind early, which led to a particularly pass-heavy offense. He was able to orchestrate several big plays, highlighted by six completions of at least 20 yards. Prescott also led an effective rally that came up just short, which included a one-yard rushing score as well as passing touchdowns of 15 and 16 yards. While it didn't lead to success for Dallas, Prescott had by far his best statistical performance heading into a matchup Thursday against an exploitable Giants defense.
Sep 15, 2024
Productive in Sunday's loss
Prescott completed 27 of 39 passes for 293 yards and one touchdowns with two interceptions in Sunday's 44-19 loss to the Saints. He added 12 rushing yards on two carries.
ANALYSIS
Despite the final score, much of Prescott's production came in the first half, as Dallas put together a couple long drives but couldn't get the ball into the end zone while the defense was getting obliterated by Alvin Kamara and the New Orleans offense. Neither interception was entirely Prescott's fault, either -- the first came when his receiver stumbled out of his break, and the second came in the fourth quarter when his team was down by three scores, and the QB was in desperation mode. Prescott only has two TD passes through his first two games, and he faces a tough test in Week 3 against a frustrated Ravens squad.

Manages Dallas to win
Prescott completed 19 of 32 passes for 179 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 33-17 win over Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Prescott dominated headlines before kickoff by signing a four-year, $240 million extension, though he was asked to do relatively little in Dallas' dominant Week 1 win. The team was up 27-3 with 13 minutes remaining in the third quarter, so Prescott took to the air only 11 times for 23 yards in the second half. That sample also hurt his efficiency numbers, but Prescott was able to move the ball when needed by completing a long pass of 34 yards to CeeDee Lamb as well as a 21-yard touchdown to Brandin Cooks.

Gets four-year extension
The Cowboys and Prescott reached an agreement on a four-year, $240 million contract Sunday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mere hours before Prescott was poised to kick off the 2024 campaign, he finally reached a resolution as he sought an extension. He's thus locked in with Dallas through the 2028 season, when he'll be 35 years old. Prescott is coming off his third 4,000-yard season in five years in 2023, when he also tossed an NFL-high 36 TD passes.

Next start to be in Week 1
Prescott is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason finale against the Chargers, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Machota, the plan is for Trey Lance to play the entire game, which would set the stage for both Prescott and Cooper Rush to be held out versus Los Angeles. Prescott's next game action is thus slated to occur on the road against Cleveland on Sept. 8.
Aug 17, 2024
Not playing Saturday
Prescott isn't in uniform ahead of Saturday's preseason game at Las Vegas, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott sat out the Cowboys' exhibition opener last Sunday against the Rams due to a sore ankle, but he was able to return to practice Tuesday and participate fully one day later. Nonetheless, coach Mike McCarthy will opt to keep Prescott and likely a number of other starters on the sideline this weekend. Prescott is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he tossed for 4,516 yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions while rushing for 242 yards and two more scores in 17 regular-season contests.
Aug 14, 2024
Practicing in full Wednesday
Prescott (ankle) will be a full participant in Wednesday's joint practice with the Rams, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was given a precautionary day off last Friday due to ankle soreness, but the issue is no longer hampering him. If the Cowboys elect to play key starters during Saturday's road preseason game against the Raiders, Prescott will thus be in line to start after having missed the team's exhibition opener against Los Angeles. Prescott is still working without star wideout CeeDee Lamb (holdout) at practice, as the No. 1 receiver remains away from team activities amid an ongoing contract dispute.
Aug 13, 2024
In line for work Tuesday, Wednesday
Coach Mike McCarthy said Prescott (ankle) will participate in Tuesday's mock game before Wednesday's joint practice with the Rams, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is trending in the right direction after sitting out Sunday's preseason loss to the Rams due to a sore ankle, and assuming he gets through the back-to-back sessions unscathed, he could put himself in a position to suit up for Saturday's exhibition at Las Vegas.
Aug 11, 2024
Expects to practice Tuesday
Prescott (ankle) said Sunday that he expects to be back out on the practice field at the Cowboys' next session Tuesday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was unavailable for the team's 13-12 loss to the Rams in their preseason opener Sunday as a result of ankle soreness. It's unclear whether the quarterback would've played in the contest anyway, but it's a positive turn of events that he'll be able to return to practice right away.
Aug 9, 2024
Given precautionary day off
Prescott is not practicing Friday as he manages ankle soreness, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is dealing with ankle soreness following Thursday's joint practice with the Rams, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. Per the Cowboys, his absence Friday is completely precautionary, but Prescott is nonetheless not expected to suit up for Sunday's road preseason matchup against Los Angeles. The veteran quarterback was spotted with a protective walking boot on his right foot back in July, which was also linked to ankle soreness, but it remains to be seen whether his current issue is related. Prescott did say after Thursday's joint practice that he feels fully ready for the regular season, though, so it doesn't appear either his ankle issue or ongoing contract negotiations with the Cowboys are at any risk of impacting his availability Week 1 against Cleveland.
Aug 9, 2024
Says he's ready for regular season
Prescott said after Thursday's joint practice with the Rams that he feels ready for the regular season, Jon Machota and Saad Yousef of The Athletic report. "I'm going into Year 9, I've had a lot of experience," the quarterback said Thursday afternoon. "I think all of that carries into my confidence to say I could play a game right now. Part of me wishes that (practice) was a game... I'm ready to play and get after it."
ANALYSIS
The veteran quarterback still has an unsettled contract situation as he heads into the final year of his current deal and possible free agency in 2025, but Prescott hasn't seemed distracted in training camp, even as the Cowboys' offense also deals with CeeDee Lamb's holdout. Prescott instead leaned heavily on Brandin Cooks during Thursday's joint practice while also looking frequently for Jalen Tolbert and tight end Jake Ferguson. Prescott may not see any action at all this preseason, but that lack of game reps shouldn't be an issue once a Week 1 trip to Cleveland rolls around.
Jul 9, 2024
Out of walking boot
Prescott (foot), who has been spotted without a protective boot on his right foot Tuesday while his youth football camp, said there is "absolutely nothing" wrong with his ankle, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott clarified that the walking boot he was spotted in early July was only worn as a precautionary measure after soreness developed in his right ankle, per Todd Archer of ESPN, despite initial reports that he was nursing a minor sprain. The veteran quarterback underwent surgery on that ankle back in 2020 due to a compound fracture and dislocation, so it isn't surprising to see him treating soreness with extra caution, but at this point there are no signs any discomfort is still lingering, or that he'll be less than a 100 percent participant for the start of training camp. Prescott also said that his agent and the Cowboys have had conversations about a contract extension, as Archer reports, and that he has plans in place to workout with potential holdout candidate CeeDee Lamb before the start of camp, per Machota.
Jul 4, 2024
Managing foot sprain
Prescott was spotted Thursday wearing a protective boot on his right foot due to a sprain, but the injury isn't considered serious, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys wrapped up the final practice of mandatory minicamp June 5, roughly one month ago, and Prescott has reportedly been wearing his protective boot only for about a week, so it remains unclear how he suffered the injury. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network confirms that the injury is considered minor, so it doesn't seem like the franchise quarterback's foot sprain is at much risk of impacting his availability for the start of training camp July 25. Now heading into his age-32 season, Dallas and Prescott have yet to come to terms on a new contract extension, and he remains scheduled for a $55.46 million cap hit in 2024. Meanwhile, star wideout CeeDee Lamb could be a candidate to hold out from training camp if he doesn't receive a new contract of his own.
Mar 26, 2024
Not offered extension yet
The Cowboys haven't offered Prescott a contract extension, with player and team having a "mutual understanding" of the situation as he enters a contract season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Prescott had one of his best statistical seasons in 2023, but the Cowboys may be hesitant to commit long term after yet another disappointment in the playoffs. On the other hand, Prescott is scheduled for a $55.46 million cap hit in 2024 even after restructuring with void years, and an extension would allow the Cowboys to significantly lower that number. He'll turn 31 in August, with the current roster hinting at the worst offensive line he's ever played behind. Of course, the Cowboys figure to address that during the upcoming NFL Draft, and they can also add low-end free agents or free up some cap space by restructuring/extending other players.
Mar 18, 2024
Restructures bonus in contract
Prescott restructured his contract over the weekend, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys converted a $5 million roster bonus into a signing bonus and added two void years to free up $4 million in 2024 cap space. They can further reduce Prescott's present-year cap hit by either extending him or doing a similar restructure with the $29 million base salary for the final year of his contract. Dallas hasn't done much else through the first week of free agency, despite losing last year's starters at left tackle (Tyron Smith - Jets) and center (Tyler Biadasz - Commanders).
Jan 14, 2024
Tops 400 yards in wild-card loss
Prescott completed 41 of 60 passes for 403 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions in Sunday's 48-32 wild-card loss to the Packers. He added 45 rushing yards on six carries, and also ran in a two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
While the final numbers were fantastic from a volume perspective, most of Prescott's production came in the second half when the game was well out of reach -- the Cowboys were in a 27-7 hole at halftime and never got a whole lot closer. That deficit was created in part by a pick-six off Prescott on a 64-yard interception return by Darnell Savage in the second quarter which typified the QB's first-half struggles. Prescott put together an excellent regular season, completing a career-high 69.5 percent of his passes for 4,516 yards and a league-leading 36 TDs against nine INTs, but another early exit from the postseason could have owner/GM Jerry Jones taking a long look at whether he's worth a top-of-market contract extension this offseason.
Jan 7, 2024
Tosses four TDs in Week 18 win
Prescott completed 31 of 36 passes for 279 yards and four touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 28-10 rout of the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys finally put together a strong performance on the road, and Prescott led the way with four red-zone TD strikes, two to CeeDee Lamb and one each to Jalen Tolbert and Brandin Cooks. In the process, Prescott became the first Dallas quarterback to ever lead the NFL in touchdown passes, tossing 36 in 17 games. The Cowboys locked up the NFC East title and the No. 2 seed in the playoffs with the victory, setting Prescott up to face a ragged Packers secondary on his home turf in the wild-card round next weekend.
Dec 31, 2023
Lights up Lions' secondary
Prescott completed 26 of 38 passes for 345 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 20-19 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Prescott threw an interception on his fifth attempt of the game, but he then went on to pick apart the Lions' secondary for his first 300-yard performance in his last three contests. The biggest highlight of his effort came only one possession later when he escaped pressure in his own end zone to launch a deep ball to CeeDee Lamb for a 92-yard touchdown. He tacked on four completions of at least 20 yards and also orchestrated a second touchdown drive early in the fourth quarter that concluded with an eight-yard scoring toss to Brandin Cooks. All told, it was Prescott's fifth 300-yard game of the season and the ninth time in his last 10 games in which he's thrown for multiple scores.
Dec 24, 2023
Improved play in last-second loss
Prescott completed 20 of 32 pass attempts for 253 yards and two touchdowns while adding 25 rushing yards on five attempts in Sunday's 22-20 loss to Miami.
ANALYSIS
Prescott showed a significant improvement over last week's dismal performance against the Bills, nearly leading Dallas to victory over one of the AFC's top contenders. While the Cowboys fell short on a last-second field goal, fantasy managers have to be pleased with the return to form from the star quarterback. The stiff tests continue for Prescott with a matchup against the Lions on tap this Saturday. On the bright side, the game will be played at home, where Prescott has completed 74 percent of his passes with a 20:2 TD:INT ratio in seven starts this year.
Dec 17, 2023
Falls flat in Buffalo
Prescott completed 21 of 34 passes for 134 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 31-10 loss to the Bills. He added four rushes for 27 yards.
ANALYSIS
Prescott turned in an underwhelming performance against the Bills and had only 43 passing yards on 13 attempts at halftime. He used a garbage-time drive late in the fourth quarter to pad his yardage total, but he still averaged only 3.9 yards per attempt and was held without multiple touchdowns for the first time since Week 6. Prescott was one of the leading MVP candidates entering this game, so there's a strong chance he'll be able to put this performance behind him as he leads the Cowboys into a Week 16 matchup against the Dolphins.
Dec 11, 2023
Cruises to victory over rival
Prescott completed 24 of 39 pass attempts for 271 yards and two touchdowns while adding 11 rushing yards on three attempts in Sunday's 33-13 win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Prescott's only blemish in the box score was a lost fumble off of a strip sack that resulted in the Eagles' lone touchdown on Sunday Night Football. The Cowboys had built enough of a lead that his turnover didn't threaten the final lopsided result. The 30-year-old otherwise cruised against a defense that usually gives opposing quarterback's fits, uncharacteristically taking the top off Philadelphia's coverage on several deep completions. Prescott has been rolling since returning from Dallas' Week 7 bye, averaging 310.3 passing yards with multiple touchdowns thrown in all seven starts during that span. The red-hot quarterback felt little resistance against the first opponent of a brutal four-week schedule, with a road matchup against the Bills representing the second challenge next Sunday.
Nov 30, 2023
Leads Cowboys to high-scoring win
Prescott completed 29 of 41 passes for 299 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Cowboys' 41-35 win over the Seahawks on Thursday night. He also rushed seven times for 23 yards and threw a two-point conversion pass.
ANALYSIS
Prescott and the Cowboys as a whole likely got a lot more than they bargained for from the opposing offense, which helped lead to a busy night for Dallas' star quarterback. Prescott proved he was up to the task of pulling out a rare close game at home, connecting with CeeDee Lamb (15 yards), Brandin Cooks (seven yards) and Jake Ferguson (12 yards) for his trio of scores. The latter touchdown pass came with 4:37 remaining and was followed by a two-point conversion toss to Cooks, taking the Cowboys from a five-point deficit to three-point advantage. Prescott now has at least three touchdown passes in five of the last six contests, and he fell just short of a fifth 300-yard game in that span as well. With the hard-fought win in hand, Prescott and teammates now have extra time to prepare for a Week 14 home showdown against the Eagles on Sunday night, Dec. 10 that could ultimately help decide the NFC East.
Nov 23, 2023
Paces Thanksgiving win
Prescott completed 22 of 32 passes for 331 yards and four touchdowns in Thursday's 45-10 rout of the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
He added 10 rushing yards on his only carry. Prescott spread the ball around almost at will against an overmatched Washington defense, completing passes to 10 different receivers and blowing the game open in the fourth quarter with a 15-yard TD strike to CeeDee Lamb and a 34-yard toss to KaVontae Turpin. Prescott has been the hottest QB in the league since the Cowboys' Week 7 bye, and over the last five weeks he's posted a 17:2 TD:INT while averaging 320.4 passing yards a game with a 70.5 percent completion rate and an 8.9 YPA. He'll look to keep rolling at home in Week 13 against the Seahawks.
Nov 19, 2023
Passes for pair of TDs
Prescott completed 25 of 38 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 33-10 win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Prescott's pair of scores both came in the first half, finding tight end Luke Schoonmaker from 18 yards before connecting with star wideout CeeDee Lamb from five. Although his three-touchdown streak was snapped at three games, Prescott still did enough to lead the Cowboys to another convincing victory. He'll now turn his attention toward Thursday's game against the Commanders in Week 12.
Nov 12, 2023
Torches Giants for five TDs
Prescott completed 26 of 35 passes for 404 yards and four touchdowns with one interception while adding 17 rushing yards and a touchdown on two carries in Sunday's 49-17 rout of the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The quarterback got the entire fourth quarter off and still posted massive numbers, with Prescott hitting Jake Ferguson, Brandin Cooks, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb for TDs while also running in a 10-yard score himself just before halftime. Prescott has been on an absolute tear since Dallas' Week 7 bye, racking up 1,082 passing yards and an 11:2 TD:INT over the last three games, but he could slow down a bit in Week 11 against a Panthers defense that's been surprisingly stingy through the air this season.
Nov 5, 2023
Huge day in losing effort
Prescott completed 29 of 44 passes for 374 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 28-23 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
He also gained 14 rushing yards on six carries. After a three-and-out on the Cowboys' first drive, Prescott was locked in the rest of the way and posted his highest yardage total since he lit the Patriots up for 445 yards in Week 6 of the 2021 season. He and the Cowboys had plenty of chances to steal a win in Philadelphia but missed by inches -- Luke Schoonmaker was judged to be just short of the goal line early in the fourth quarter for what would have been Prescott's fourth TD of the day, and the QB himself stepped out of bounds on a two-point conversion attempt later in the final frame which would have resulted in Dallas needing only a field goal to tie it on their last possession. Prescott still has a 7:1 TD:INT and 678 passing yards over the last two weeks, but he likely won't need to be as busy in Week 10 against a Giants team the Cowboys already routed once this season.
Oct 29, 2023
Four touchdowns, tops 300 yards
Prescott completed 25 of 31 passes for 304 yards, four touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 43-20 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys came out with an aggressive gameplan, as Prescott had three touchdowns and 225 yards at halftime. His scores came from 18, 10, 22 and 25 yards away and were distributed to three different pass catchers. Prescott also completed five passes of more than 20 yards -- his highest mark of the year -- leading to his first 300-yard passing performance of the campaign. He and the Cowboys will need to continue their offensive heroics in an intra-division showdown with the Eagles in Week 9.
Oct 17, 2023
Bounces back in Week 6 win
Prescott completed 21 of 30 passes for 272 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Cowboys' 20-17 win over the Chargers on Monday night. He also rushed seven times for 40 yards and another score.
ANALYSIS
Prescott shook off the sting of a three-interception tally in Week 5 against the fearsome 49ers defense to put together a season-high passing yardage total. The veteran signal-caller also posted a season-best rushing yardage tally while recording his first regular-season touchdown on the ground since Week 8 of last season on an 18-yard run in the first quarter. Prescott also led a game-winning 14-play drive late in the fourth quarter, a march that was preceded by a two-yard touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks earlier in the period. Prescott heads into the Week 7 bye with some momentum and will next face the Rams in a Week 8 home matchup against the Rams on Sunday, Oct. 29.
Oct 9, 2023
Throws three INTs in blowout loss
Prescott completed 14 of 24 pass attempts for 153 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Sunday's 42-10 loss to the 49ers. He added one carry for two yards.
ANALYSIS
San Francisco's vaunted defense gave Prescott fits all game long, sacking the quarterback three times and forcing three interceptions in Sunday's one-sided affair. Prescott was inaccurate when given time in the pocket, airmailing an open Luke Schoonmaker on a third down pass in the first half before leading Brandin Cooks out of bounds on a deep shot later in the contest. The 30-year-old had done a good job of protecting the ball with just one turnover over his four previous starts, so its fair to write this off as a down game against a tough opponent. Prescott has yet to throw for 300 yards in any game this season, but that could change with a bounce-back performance against the Chargers' league-worst pass defense next Monday.
Oct 1, 2023
Bounces back against Patriots
Prescott completed 28 of 34 passes for 261 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 38-3 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Coming off of a disappointing Week 3 performance, Prescott bounced back to carve up the New England defense with an efficient effort. His overall numbers were ultimately limited due to the blowout nature of the game, and because Dallas managed two defensive touchdowns. Though it was a positive outcome for his team, Prescott now has only one multi-touchdown performance through four contests this season, and he'll face a tough 49ers' defense in Week 5.
Sep 24, 2023
Frustrating day in Arizona
Prescott completed 25 of 40 passes for 249 yards and one touchdown with one interception in Sunday's 28-16 loss to the Cardinals. He added 24 rushing yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
Working behind an offensive line missing three starters, including Zack Martin (ankle), Prescott and the Cowboys were able to move the ball but couldn't cash in when they got to the red zone, managing only one TD on five trips inside the 20. Prescott's first INT of the season also came from the Arizona six-yard line late in the fourth quarter, ending Dallas' final comeback attempt. He'll try to bounce back in Week 4 back at home against a stingy Patriots defense that has yet to allow a quarterback to throw for 250 or more yards against it this season.
Sep 17, 2023
Efficient in big win over Jets
Prescott completed 31 of 38 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 30-10 win over the Jets. He added 14 rushing yards on six carries.
ANALYSIS
It was another impressive all-around performance from the Cowboys, and Prescott got in on the action by completing his first 13 pass attempts and connecting with tight ends Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker on two short TD passes in the first half. Prescott's fantasy value through two weeks has largely been dependent on just how dominant the Dallas defense has been, and he may not need to do too much again in Week 3 in a road matchup against the 0-2 Cardinals.
Sep 11, 2023
Little use in blowout win
Prescott completed 13 of 24 pass attempts for 143 yards and no touchdowns or turnovers in Sunday's 40-0 blowout victory over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The defense was the star of Sunday's landslide (two touchdowns) while Tony Pollard took care of the scoring on offense, leaving little for Prescott to accomplish in a comfortable win over a division rival. The 30-year-old only completed 54 percent of his passes, but part of that can be attributed to the slick playing conditions created by heavy rain at various points of the contest. Prescott and the rest of Dallas' passing offense will enjoy the dryer conditions at AT&T Stadium when the Cowboys host the Jets next Sunday.
Sep 8, 2023
Ready for G Men in opener
Prescott said he had extra time to prepare for Week 1 at the Giants once he knew he wouldn't play at all in the preseason, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Other veteran starters also were held out for the entire preseason, including offseason trade acquisition Brandin Cooks. The switch from Kellen Moore to Brian Schottenheimer at offensive coordinator was taken by some as a signal of intent for Dallas to run the ball more, but the team's other moves hinted at the opposite with Cooks brought in and Ezekiel Elliott leaving for New England. The Cowboys don't have much experience behind Tony Pollard in the backfield, but they do have a veteran trio of wideouts -- Cooks, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup -- for Prescott to lean on Sunday night at the Meadowlands.
Aug 5, 2023
Likely not playing during preseason
Head coach Mike McCarthy suggested the team is unlikely to play Prescott during the preseason, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
This isn't incredibly surprising given the Cowboys' playoff aspirations and Prescott's status as a seven-year veteran. The switch from offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to Brian Schottenheimer will likely result in a shift in offensive schemes, but it seems as if the team is confident they will work out the kinks throughout training camp and don't need to expose Prescott to any unnecessary hits during the team's three exhibition contests.
Mar 10, 2023
Contract restructured for cap relief
The Cowboys have restructured Prescott's contract, a move that saves the franchise about $22 million against its 2023 salary cap, Nick Eatman of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The report adds that guard Zack Martin also had his deal restructured, with the contract conversions designed to get the Cowboys under the NFL salary cap ahead of free agency. Prescott is coming off a 2022 season in which he logged 2,860 passing yards to go along with 23 touchdowns a career-high 15 interceptions in 12 games.
Jan 23, 2023
Commits costly turnovers in loss
Prescott completed 23 of 37 pass attempts for 206 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 19-12 divisional-round loss to San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Prescott reverted to his turnover-prone self after dominating the Buccaneers in the wild-card round last week, throwing two untimely first-half interceptions that hamstrung his team in a tight contest. The 29-year-old added 22 rushing yards on four attempts, but he was unable to extend his playoff streak of scoring both passing and rushing touchdowns in the loss. Prescott finished the regular season with 2,860 passing yards and 23 touchdowns in the 12 games he was healthy enough to start, but the career-high 15 interceptions were alarming for a veteran quarterback with his track record. The Cowboys' franchise quarterback is under contract through the 2025 season, so this core will look to regroup and return as contenders in 2023.
Jan 16, 2023
Stellar in wild-card win
Prescott completed 25 of 33 pass attempts for 305 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in Monday night's 31-14 wild-card win over the Buccaneers. He also rushed seven times for 24 yards and another score.
ANALYSIS
Coming off an interception-laden latter half of the season and particularly abysmal regular-season finale, Prescott came out of the gates Monday night like a player singularly focused on atoning for that atypical stretch. Prescott finished off the Cowboys' third drive of the game with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Schultz before putting Dallas up by two scores with a one-yard run to cap off a 15-play, 80-yard drive just past the midway point of the second quarter. Another touchdown toss late in the second quarter to Schultz, this one of 11 yards, followed before he added two- and 18-yard strikes to Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb in the third and fourth quarters, respectively. The five-touchdown effort certainly absolved Prescott of his recent struggles for the time being, but an unenviable test awaits Sunday evening in a road divisional-round matchup versus the 49ers at Levi's Stadium.
Jan 8, 2023
Awful in season finale
Prescott completed 14 of 37 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Sunday's 26-6 loss to the Commanders. He added 16 rushing yards on six carries.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys came into the game with a small chance to claim the NFC East title and maybe even secure the top seed in the conference with a win, but instead the entire offense -- Prescott included -- delivered maybe its worst performance of the season. The quarterback wraps up the regular season with 2,860 passing yards and a 23:15 TD:INT over 12 games, having thrown an interception in seven straight games, and Dallas' 12-win campaign seems to be in serious danger of ending in a playoff one-and-done in the wild-card round against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.
Jan 4, 2023
Sidesteps injury report
Prescott (knee) wasn't listed on the Cowboys' first Week 18 injury report Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of last Thursday's win in Tennessee, team president Jerry Jones said Friday that Prescott may have suffered a hyperextended knee during that contest. The issue didn't stop Prescott from playing all 80 offensive snaps, and coach Mike McCarthy told Todd Archer of ESPN.com, "I don't have concern about Dak moving forward." Prescott's ability to not only log a full practice but avoid the injury report entirely Wednesday demonstrates that his health isn't in question ahead of Sunday's contest at Washington.
Dec 30, 2022
Suffers minor knee hyperextension
Prescott hyperextended his knee during Thursday's 27-13 win over the Titans, but he was able to keep playing, and team president Jerry Jones said he has "zero concern moving forward," Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott didn't have his best game against a Titans team missing a slew of key players, throwing for 282 yards and two touchdowns but also committing three turnovers. It sounds like he'll be fine for Week 18 against the Commanders, though rest for the playoffs could enter the discussion depending on how other games in Week 17 play out.
Dec 29, 2022
Pair of TDs, INTs in win
Prescott completed 29 of 41 passes for 282 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in the Cowboys' 27-13 win over the Titans on Thursday night. He also rushed three times for 11 yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys likely got a bit more than they bargained for overall against a Titans team sitting out a large contingent of players, including Derrick Henry (hip). That particularly applied to Prescott, who posted his fifth two-interception game in the last eight contests and also suffered his first lost fumble of the season. Both of Prescott's picks led to Tennessee field goals, but he responded by leading a pair of touchdown drives he capped off with scoring tosses to Dalton Schultz and another which resulted in a field goal in the first three possessions of the second half. Prescott's final tune-up for the postseason comes in a Week 18 road matchup against the Commanders a week from Sunday.
Dec 24, 2022
Stellar showing in key win
Prescott completed 27 of 35 passes for 347 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Cowboys' 40-34 win over the Eagles on Saturday. He also rushed six times for 41 yards and committed a fumble recovered by Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Prescott outdueled Gardner Minshew to prevent the Eagles from clinching both the NFC East crown and the top seed in the conference. The veteran signal-caller most frequently bestowed his attention on CeeDee Lamb and Tony Pollard, hitting the former for 36- and seven-yard touchdown tosses in the second and fourth quarters, respectively. Prescott also connected with Michael Gallup from 12 yards out late in the third quarter to give him his second straight three-touchdown effort and third in the last four contests overall. With the division and even top seed still in play, Prescott will aim to keep Dallas in contention for both during a Week 17 road matchup against the Titans on Thursday night.
Dec 18, 2022
Three touchdowns in loss
Prescott completed 23 of 30 passes for 256 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 40-34 loss to the Jaguars. He added five rushes for 20 yards.
ANALYSIS
Prescott got off to a hot start, as he completed 15 of 16 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns through the first two quarters. He slowed a bit in the second half but still managed long completions of 39, 25 and 22 yards -- each of which went to CeeDee Lamb. Prescott also tallied three passing touchdowns for the third time this season -- each of which has come in his last six games. Despite all of the positives, Prescott's performance ended on a sour note, as the Jaguars picked off a tipped pass and returned it for the game-winning touchdown in overtime.
Dec 11, 2022
Underwhelms in win
Prescott completed 24 of 39 passes for 284 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 27-23 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Heading into the game, it seemed likely that the Cowboys would be able to rely on their rushing attack to win over the lowly Texans. However, Dallas trailed for long portions of the game, so in turn, Prescott attempted his second-highest number of passes on the campaign. His actual performance was a mix of positive and negative, as he threw for a season-high 284 yards on the strength of four completions of more than 20 yards. However, Prescott also threw two picks -- the third time he's done so in his last five games. Prescott also failed to throw for multiple scores for only the second time in his last seven starts.
Dec 5, 2022
Throws for 3 TDs in blowout win
Prescott completed 20 of 30 pass attempts for 170 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 54-19 blowout win over the Colts.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys got off to a slow start offensively, but Prescott got cooking with a strong two-minute drill to end the first half en route to a three-touchdown performance. The anemic yardage total was the result of Dallas' defense giving the offense incredible field position all game long via five turnovers. The 29-year-old has yet to eclipse 300 yards passing in a game this season, a feat he accomplished five times in 2021. Prescott will have a good opportunity to correct that on Sunday against a Texans defense that has surrendered the fifth-most yards to opposing offenses this season (378.3/game).
Nov 24, 2022
Big second half in Thanksgiving win
Prescott completed 21 of 30 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in Thursday's 28-20 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
He also added four rushing yards on two carries. It was a tale of two halves for Prescott -- he got picked off twice before halftime as the Giants built a 13-7 lead, before being nearly perfect over the final two quarters and tossing two TDs to Dalton Schultz to fuel the comeback. Prescott has thrown multiple touchdowns in four straight games, giving him plenty of momentum heading into a Week 13 clash with the Colts.
Nov 20, 2022
Nearly perfect in blowout win
Prescott completed 22 of 25 pass attempts for 276 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 40-3 win over Minnesota. He added 16 rushing yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was flawless against a passing defense that has troubled other quarterbacks at times this season. This was the 29-year-old's strongest showing in 2022 since returning from thumb surgery, which bodes well for fantasy managers who have been underwhelmed through 10 weeks. Prescott could have had an even bigger game if the starters weren't pulled for the entire fourth quarter, a coaching decision influenced by the combination of a lopsided score and an upcoming short week. The Cowboys' franchise quarterback will look to build off this strong showing in a pivotal NFC East matchup against the Giants on Thanksgiving.
Nov 13, 2022
Falls short in overtime loss
Prescott completed 27 of 46 pass attempts for 265 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 31-28 loss to Green Bay.
ANALYSIS
Prescott performed well in a tough road matchup, but two drive-killing interceptions likely factored in the eventual losing result. The 28-year-old has seen his production increase gradually in three games since returning from thumb surgery, which should provide some optimism for fantasy managers moving forward. Prescott will look to take another small step forward against against a vulnerable Minnesota secondary next Sunday.
Oct 30, 2022
Efficient with 27 passes
Prescott completed 21 of 27 passes for 250 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 49-29 win over the Bears. He added five rushes for 34 yards and an additional score.
ANALYSIS
Prescott opened the scoring with a seven-yard touchdown on the Cowboys' first offensive possession, and he also added a 25-yard scamper in the second quarter. Though Chicago didn't keep the game close enough to push Dallas into a pass-heavy approach, Prescott made strong use of his limited pass attempts by averaging 9.3 yards per attempt and tallying touchdowns of 21 and one yards. In two games since returning from a thumb injury, Prescott has combined to record 457 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
Oct 23, 2022
Efficient in Week 7 return
Prescott completed 19 of 25 passes for 207 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Cowboys' 24-6 win over the Lions on Sunday. He also netted no gain on three carries.
ANALYSIS
Prescott's highly anticipated return from his thumb fracture didn't feature many fireworks, but the star signal-caller played a clean, efficient game and relied on both his running game and defense with success. Prescott relied the most on CeeDee Lamb, Noah Brown and Dalton Schultz, sending a combined 18 targets that trio's way. Just as importantly, Prescott emerged from the game injury-free, and he should get more comfortable moving forward. His next opportunity to knock off any rust comes in a Week 8 home matchup versus the Bears.
Oct 21, 2022
All systems go for Sunday
Prescott is ready for Sunday's game against Detroit, with Cowboys president Jerry Jones noting Friday that the quarterback "looked the part" during practice this week, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott has been a full practice participant all week and is cleared to make his return against a Lions defense that ranks dead last in both points and yards allowed per game. The veteran QB takes over a relatively healthy Dallas offense, with LT Tyron Smith (IR - knee) the only starter sidelined now that Prescott is back. Prescott missed the past five games with a fractured thumb.
Oct 20, 2022
Another full practice Thursday
Prescott (thumb) remained a full practice participant Thursday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
After logging a second consecutive uncapped session, Prescott met with the media Thursday. When asked if he was slated to start Sunday against the Lions, he told Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News, "I am. I think anyway." While coach Mike McCarthy has yet to confirm as much, Prescott is trending toward resuming his role as the Cowboys' No. 1 quarterback this weekend after missing the last five games due to a fractured right thumb.
Oct 19, 2022
Logs full practice Wednesday
Prescott (right thumb) was a full practice participant Wednesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Such a listing comes one day earlier than expected, as the plan for Prescott on Wednesday was participation in a mock game, after which he'd throw 40-to-50 passes to his teammates, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. Prescott instead has bucked a 'limited' practice and already is back to all activity, setting him up to return to action Sunday versus the Lions. While he's gained medical clearance to do so, the Cowboys have yet to name him the starting quarterback for that contest.
Oct 19, 2022
Nearing full participation
Prescott (thumb) will take part in a mock game Wednesday and throw 40-to-50 passes afterward, with the expectation he'll then be a full participant in Thursday's practice, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is gearing up to return for Sunday's game against the Lions, though the Cowboys haven't yet declared him the starter. They'll want to see how he looks in practice before making that decision, with early reports promising after teammate James Washington (foot) said Wednesday that Prescott seems to have his grip strength back.
Oct 17, 2022
Nears medical clearance
Coach Mike McCarthy indicated that Prescott (thumb) is in line to be cleared medically Monday or Tuesday and then practice Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
At this stage, McCarthy hasn't confirmed that Prescott -- who last suited up in Week 1 -- will start Sunday's game against the Lions, but the QB is clearly trending in the right direction. In any case, added clarity regarding Prescott's Week 7 status should arrive no later than Wednesday, assuming he participates in practice as anticipated.
Oct 17, 2022
On track for Week 7
Prescott (thumb) threw about 50 passes to receivers before Sunday night's game against the Eagles and didn't appear to have any issues with the velocity of his passes or with taking snaps, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
"I thought Dak took the next step," coach Mike McCarthy said. "It was what we're looking for. He had a good day yesterday in the Saturday practice. He threw two sequences, two racks of six in the seven-on-seven third down and red zone. I thought he did well in that. We wanted to push it to 50 throws [Sunday] and I thought the guys did a great job for him... we'll get him in there tomorrow, see where we are, and hopefully have a plan for him Thursday." Everything appears to be pointing toward Prescott returning to the lineup in Week 7 against the Lions.
Oct 16, 2022
Officially out for Week 6
Prescott (thumb) is listed as inactive Sunday in Philadelphia, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott will miss a fifth game in a row as he continues his recovery from a broken right thumb that he suffered in the season opener. However, he drew closer to a return to game action by capping Week 6 prep with back-to-back limited sessions, heading into the weekend with a questionable designation and setting him up for a pregame workout before Sunday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff. On Sunday morning, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported that Prescott's throwing session will determine whether he has a chance to come back Week 7 against the Lions as opposed to this weekend. The results of said warmup aren't known, but with inactive status again confirmed, Prescott will yield quarterback duties for the Cowboys to Cooper Rush.
Oct 16, 2022
Not expected to play
Prescott (thumb) is not expected to suit up for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is officially listed as questionable for Sunday Night Football in Philadelphia, but it appears that another start for Cooper Rush is likely in the cards. That said, a final word on Prescott's status may not come until Dallas' inactives are released prior to Sunday's late kickoff 8:20 p.m. ET, presenting a difficult situation for fantasy managers. Prescott missed practice to begin the week then upgraded to limited sessions Thursday and Friday, but Rapoport reports that he will still need to improve in order to handle next Wednesday's session as a full participant.
Oct 14, 2022
Officially listed as questionable
Prescott (thumb) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Patrick Walker of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Comments from team president Jerry Jones and coach Mike McCarthy suggest Prescott is unlikely to start, with McCarthy previously saying the quarterback would need a full week of practice before returning to games. Prescott didn't manage it this week, sitting out Wednesday and then logging limited sessions Thursday and Friday. McCarthy did mention that the QB increased his activity level Friday, and Jones said Prescott was throwing the ball with zip again. Another start for Cooper Rush is still the most likely outcome, but the Cowboys certainly have given fans and fantasy managers something to think about, especially with their NFC East battle against the Eagles scheduled for Sunday night primetime.
Oct 14, 2022
Looking healthier in practice
Cowboys president Jerry Jones said Friday that Prescott (thumb) has made a lot of progress and is "throwing the ball with zip", but Jones declined to answer if he expects the QB back for Week 7 against the Lions, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike McCarthy added that Prescott increased his activity level at Friday's practice and felt some soreness afterward, but nothing out of the ordinary, putting him on track for a pregame workout before Sunday night's game against the Eagles. While Cooper Rush appears destined for at least one more start, Prescott could get back under center as soon as Week 7 against Detroit or Week 8 at Chicago. After that the Cowboys have a Week 9 bye, followed by a crucial stretch of games against NFC playoff hopefuls (GB, MIN, NYG in Weeks 10-12).
Oct 13, 2022
Returns to practice Thursday
Prescott (right thumb) was limited at Thursday's practice, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to the session, Prescott took part in the Cowboys' quarterback school, and there was an expectation that he'd throw to the team's pass catchers afterward for a second day in a row, according to Gehlken. Instead, Prescott was able to mix into drills for the first time since undergoing surgery on the broken right thumb that he suffered in the season opener. It's been reported that Dallas plans to have Cooper Rush earn another spot start Sunday at Philadelphia, but Prescott now be putting himself on a path to return Week 7 against the Lions.
Oct 13, 2022
Throws again at Thursday's practice
Prescott (thumb) took part in what head coach Mike McCarthy termed as "quarterback school drills" Thursday and threw to receivers following the Cowboys' practice session, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Dallas listed Prescott as a non-participant for its first Week 6 practice Wednesday, and he'll likely receive the same label Thursday after essentially repeating his activity from a day earlier. Even if Prescott doesn't take a tangible step forward in terms of practice activity this week, his ability to throw and grip the football without discomfort in his surgically repaired thumb over the next few days will be a positive sign with regard to his chances of returning to action Week 7 against the Lions. The Cowboys haven't formally ruled out Prescott from playing in Sunday's game in Philadelphia, but McCarthy already said Wednesday that Cooper Rush is headed for a fifth consecutive start this weekend.
Oct 12, 2022
Not anticipated as Week 6 starter
Coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday the Cowboys are planning for Cooper Rush and not Prescott (thumb) to start Week 6 versus the Eagles, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is planning to throw at practice Wednesday, but it looks like things are trending towards Rush drawing another start Week 6. It's possible the Cowboys' plans could change if Prescott truly demonstrates that he's back to 100 percent this week, but it appears that Week 7 versus the Lions could simply be a more realistic return date. In any case, an official word on the Week 6 starter may not come until after Dallas has had a few days to monitor Prescott's practice activities.
Oct 11, 2022
To begin throwing Wednesday
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Prescott (thumb) will begin throwing at practice Wednesday, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott will likely need a full week of practice before Dallas provides him clearance to return to the starting lineup, so there still aren't any guarantees he'll be available for Week 6's divisional matchup against the Eagles. Wednesday's practice report will provide a better idea about Prescott's immediate status, as he continues to work his way back from surgery to address a fracture in the thumb of his throwing hand. The combination of a dominant defense and capable play from Cooper Rush have led Dallas to four straight wins, so the team isn't feeling much pressure to rush Prescott back until he's truly 100 percent.
Oct 10, 2022
Will need full week of practice
Prescott (thumb) will likely need to practice for a full week before Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy inserts him back into the lineup, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The quarterback has been out since Week 1 after suffering a fracture in the thumb on his throwing hand, but backup Cooper Rush has led the team to four straight wins in his place, giving the team some breathing room to let Prescott fully heal up before he returns to action. Prescott will be re-evaluated by team doctors Tuesday, and even if he's cleared to begin throwing a football, there's still no guarantee he'll be activated from injured reserve for Week 6 against the Eagles.
Oct 9, 2022
Facing uphill battle to play Week 6
The Cowboys aren't yet ruling Prescott out from playing Week 6 against the Eagles, but he's still in the process of regaining strength in his surgically repaired right thumb and would need to make significant strides in the next week to have a chance at suiting up, Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network report.
ANALYSIS
Cooper Rush will make his fourth consecutive start Sunday against the Rams while Prescott remains sidelined, and the former looks as though he could tentatively be in line for another start in Philadelphia unless the franchise quarterback's condition takes a dramatic turn for the better over the next several days. Upon undergoing surgery on his thumb Sept. 12, Prescott was projected to miss 4-to-6 weeks, so the game against Philadelphia would mark the midpoint of that recovery timeline. The Cowboys will likely have another update available for Prescott on Tuesday, when he's set to meet with a doctor as he aims to gain clearance to take part in more on-field work. Since getting surgery, Prescott has been able to do only light tosses with the football and is waiting for the swelling and soreness in his thumb to completely subside before he ramps up his throwing.
Oct 7, 2022
Still needs to strengthen grip
Cowboys president Jerry Jones said Friday that Prescott's thumb is getting better but his grip still isn't strong enough to play in a game, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott reportedly was targeting the upcoming Week 5 game in Los Angeles at one point, but he's been forced to reassess and set his sights toward Week 6/7. The issue isn't any kind of setback so much as the Cowboys being overly optimistic about the recovery timeline, or at least leaving the door open for Prescott to surprise. He's set to miss a fourth straight game but hasn't been ruled out beyond Week 5.
Oct 6, 2022
Remains with rehab group Thursday
Prescott was seen gripping a football while working with resistance cords with the training staff during the open portion of Thursday's practice, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Jon Machota of The Athletic, Prescott officially went down as a non-participant Thursday, but his ability to hold a football is the new context in his recovery from surgery to repair a broken right thumb. The main impediment for Prescott at the moment is that he's unable to grip and throw a football with high velocity, which is the primary reason Cooper Rush and not Prescott will be under center Sunday at the Rams. Prescott's next chance to play is Week 6 in Philadelphia.
Oct 6, 2022
Doesn't throw Wednesday
Prescott (thumb) was seen doing cord work on the sidelines during Wednesday's practice, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
While the quarterback is staying in shape, the fact that he wasn't seen doing any throwing suggests his return to the lineup isn't imminent. Per the Dallas Morning News, Prescott's thumb fracture is still healing and isn't strong enough to grip and throw a football with high velocity. The earliest he could return to the lineup is Week 6 against the Eagles, but he will need to show significant progress soon to make that happen.
Oct 5, 2022
Not slated to practice Wednesday
Prescott (thumb) is expected to do work on the side at Wednesday's practice, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott isn't expected to be available Week 5 versus the Rams, which a lack of practice Wednesday reinforces. The franchise quarterback continues to work his way back from surgery to address a right thumb fracture, and though he was cleared to resume light throwing last week, it appears Prescott still has a number of hurdles to clear before being ready for game-action. Cooper Rush projects to draw a fourth straight start versus Los Angeles, which would make Prescott's next target for a return Week 6 against Philadelphia.
Oct 4, 2022
Won't be available Week 5
Prescott (thumb) isn't in line to play in Sunday's game against the Rams, a source familiar with his situation tells Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News.
ANALYSIS
Though Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy hasn't officially ruled Prescott out from ending his three-game absence Sunday, the quarterback hasn't made enough notable progress in his recovery from right thumb surgery to realistically take back starting duties this weekend. Prescott was cleared to resume some light throwing last week, but team owner Jerry Jones noted earlier Tuesday that the 29-year-old isn't yet able to grip a football well enough to play. The Cowboys' decision to sign Will Grier off their practice squad implies that Prescott won't dress Sunday even as a backup option behind Cooper Rush, who is poised to pick up his fourth consecutive start. Prescott should still a realistic shot at returning to action Week 6 in Philadelphia.
Oct 4, 2022
Not gripping ball, likely out Week 5
Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Prescott isn't able to comfortably grip footballs with his surgically repaired right thumb, suggesting the quarterback isn't on track to play Week 5 against the Rams, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Jones didn't explicitly rule Prescott out for Sunday's matchup with the Rams and said he's confident the signal-caller will make some progress in his recovery during the upcoming week, Prescott doesn't look as though he's on pace to put an end to his three-game absence. Prescott previously expressed optimism as recently as last Monday that he would be back in action Week 5, but the fact that he can't yet securely grip the football is likely to result in his return timeline being pushed back another week. Cooper Rush, who has led the Cowboys to a 3-0 record in Prescott's absence, should be in store for at least one more start.
Oct 3, 2022
Set to visit doctor Tuesday
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Prescott (thumb) will meet with a doctor Tuesday, and the team will formulate a plan following the appointment, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is reportedly eyeing a Week 5 return, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, but the team will have to wait until Tuesday's appointment to get clarity on his potential return timetable. The quarterback began throwing last week after he had the stitches from his surgery removed, but McCarthy said he wants to see the quarterback put together a full week of practices before throwing him into game action, per Todd Archer of ESPN.com. If Prescott is able to return for Week 5, he's expected to have his full bevy of weapons available after Michael Gallup made his season debut in Week 4.
Oct 2, 2022
Eyeing Week 5 return
Prescott (thumb) is targeting Week 5's contest against the Rams as a return date, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott reportedly resumed throwing the football last week, along with having the stitches removed from his surgically repaired right thumb. Cooper Rush will helm Dallas' offense for Sunday's divisional matchup against the Commanders, in any case, but barring any setbacks it sounds like the Cowboys' franchise quarterback could be back in action Week 5. Dallas will continue monitoring Prescott's status, however, and depending on his practice activity the team could still opt to take a cautious approach and delay his return until Week 6, when the team will face a key matchup against the Eagles.
Sep 30, 2022
Not throwing Friday
Prescott still has swelling in his surgically repaired thumb and won't practice or throw a football Friday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
While set to miss a third straight game this Sunday against Washington, the 29-year-old QB recently said he hopes to make it back for Week 5 against the Rams, though Ian Rapoport of NFL Network suggested Wednesday that Week 6 against the Eagles is a more realistic target. Either way, Prescott continues to be listed as a non-participant in practice, including this Thursday when he did some light throwing in front of the Dallas media. His practice statuses next week should provide some hint as to whether he has a real chance to play against the Rams.
Sep 29, 2022
Officially doesn't practice
Prescott (thumb) didn't practice Thursday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott showed up on the field Thursday without a brace on his right thumb, instead going through the motions with a tape job, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. During the portion of the session open to the media, Prescott handled some snaps and made some light throws, per Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, but the activity wasn't enough for the Cowboys to list him as a limited participant. At this point, Prescott seems hard-pressed to be available for Sunday's game against the Commanders, but he told Lorenzo Reyes of USA Today on Monday that he's keying in a return Week 5 at the Rams. As long as Prescott is sidelined, Cooper Rush will direct Dallas' offense.
Sep 27, 2022
Turns focus to Week 5 return
Prescott (thumb) said after the Cowboys' win Monday over the Giants that he's preparing to return for the team's Week 5 matchup with the Rams, Lorenzo Reyes of USA Today reports. "Nah, probably not," Prescott said, when asked about his availability for the Cowboys' Week 4 game against Washington. "But Week 5 against the Rams? That's the one I'm looking at."
ANALYSIS
Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones seemingly supported Prescott's belief that a Week 5 return in plausible, noting Tuesday in a radio appearance that he expects the quarterback to play in a week or two, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic. Jones also noted that Prescott's recovery from right thumb surgery has been "nothing short of amazing," but the 29-year-old's chances of being ready to play Oct. 9 in Los Angeles will hinge on his ability to grip and throw the football without limitations. Jane Slater of NFL Network adds that Prescott has experienced no swelling or healing in his thumb since having stitches removed a few days ago, so he could be ready to resume some light throwing this week, even though the Cowboys seem to be proceeding as though Cooper Rush will continue to start Sunday against Washington.
Sep 26, 2022
Not ruling out Week 4 return
Prescott (thumb) said prior to Monday's game against the Giants that he isn't ruling out a return in Week 4 against Washington, Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was inactive for Week 3, but he was seen throwing the ball pre-game without stitches on his hand, per Joey Hayden of the Dallas Morning News reports. How much activity Prescott is able to take on in practice during the week will likely determine his status for Sunday's game against the Commanders.
Sep 22, 2022
Seen at practice Thursday
Prescott (thumb) got back on the practice field Thursday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Only 10 days out from surgery to repair his broken right thumb, Prescott didn't throw a football or take any snaps, but he was spotted gripping and tossing a softball-sized weighted ball. Per Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News, Prescott still has stitches in his right hand, but those likely will be removed in the near future. It's unclear when Prescott will be able to mix into on-field work, but there's hope he'll be back either Week 4 against the Commanders or Week 5 at the Rams. As long as Prescott is sidelined, Cooper Rush will direct the Cowboys offense.
Sep 19, 2022
Could be back as soon as Week 4
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Prescott (thumb) could be back as early as Week 4 against the Commanders or Week 5 against the Rams, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott won't play in Week 3 against the Giants, but he could be back soon after that. According to Jones, Prescott's recovery has been going extremely well so far, as the quarterback experienced minimal swelling after having surgery on his thumb.
Sep 15, 2022
At least week away from activities
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Thursday that Prescott (thumb) will need at least 7-to-10 days of healing before he's cleared to resume football activities, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott underwent surgery Monday to repair a fractured right thumb, and though the procedure was considered a success by all accounts, the Cowboys likely won't be able to pinpoint a target date for the quarterback's return to game action until he's ready to do some gripping and throwing of the football. For his part, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Prescott won't be placed on injured reserve, which would seem to imply that the team is optimistic the quarterback will miss three games rather than the minimum of four that an IR stint would entail. A potential 3-to-4-week recovery timeline would be a major boon for Prescott after initial reports suggested the star signal-caller would be sidelined for 6-to-8 weeks when he fractured the thumb in Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers, per Todd Archer of ESPN.com. Cooper Rush is in line to start for the Cowboys in Sunday's game against the Bengals and will likely remain atop the depth chart for the duration of Prescott's absence.
Sep 13, 2022
Won't go on IR
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that Prescott (thumb) will not be placed on IR, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones said Prescott will avoid IR because he believes the franchise quarterback has a chance to play within the next four games, which goes against the 6-to-8-week recovery timetable reported by Todd Archer of ESPN.com. Prescott underwent successful surgery Monday to address his fractured right thumb, and the procedure included the insertion of a plate and a pin to stabilize a joint in his hand. Per Machota, the results of Monday's surgery have led the Cowboys to a more optimistic recovery timetable of 3-to-4 weeks, while Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News suggests the team is looking at a 4-to-6 week window. Further clarification on Prescott's expected return date could come soon, and whatever the case, Dallas will need to turn to Cooper Rush versus Cincinnati in Week 2.
Sep 12, 2022
Undergoes surgery Monday
Prescott underwent surgery on his fractured right thumb Monday and is in line for a 6-to-8-week recovery timetable, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott sustained the injury when his right hand hit the hand of Buccaneers pass rusher Shaquil Barrett while throwing during the fourth quarter of Sunday's 19-3 loss. While Prescott stayed in the game for one more snap -- a screen pass to Ezekiel Elliott -- the quarterback left the game due to his inability to grip the football. Considering the aforementioned timeline, Prescott may be able to return for a Week 7 matchup with the Lions, but the Cowboys could opt to wait until after the team's Week 9 bye. In the meantime, Dallas will turn to Cooper Rush under center.
Sep 12, 2022
Projected for 6-to-8-week absence
Prescott is scheduled to undergo surgery Monday to address his fractured right thumb and is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks, multiple sources tell Todd Archer of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys are expected to place Prescott on injured reserve in the coming days after he sustained the injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 19-3 loss to Tampa Bay, when his hand struck the helmet of Buccaneers defender Shaquil Barrett. According to Archer, Prescott's upcoming procedure will involve the insertion of a plate and a pin to stabilize a joint in his hand, and he'll likely be limited to cardio work over the next few weeks before he's healed up enough to resume throwing. Cooper Rush came on in relief of Prescott and is the prime candidate to take over as the starting quarterback beginning in Week 2, when the Cowboys host the Bengals on Sept. 18. A firm target date for Prescott's return won't come into focus until he's further removed from surgery, but if he meets the short end of the projected recovery timeline, he could miss as few as five games and resume playing in the Cowboys' Week 7 home game versus the Lions on Oct. 23.
Sep 11, 2022
Multi-week absence upcoming
Prescott will need surgery to repair the thumb injury he suffered in Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, and the quarterback is expected to miss several weeks, Calvin Watkins of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Cooper Rush finished out Dallas' 19-3 Week 1 loss after Prescott got hurt, but it's possible that the Cowboys will look outside the organization for a replacement under center while Prescott recovers. Prescott sustained the thumb injury when his hand hit the hand of a Buccaneers defender while following through on a pass. A more definitive return timetable will likely be established soon, but Prescott can already be ruled out for Dallas' Week 2 clash with the Bengals.

Hurts throwing hand on SNF
Prescott exited in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers to have his throwing hand examined, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott took himself out of the game after taking two hits to his right hand in short succession. Cooper Rush replaced Prescott with the Cowboys trailing 19-3. Prior to his exit, Prescott completed only 14 of 29 passes for 134 yards and one interception while rushing twice for 11 yards.

Felt pop on Thursday
Prescott (ankle) fully practiced Friday and is slated to play Sunday against the Buccaneers, but the injury he sustained in practice this week was a little scarier than the Cowboys initially let on, Jay Glazer reported on "Fox NFL Sunday."
ANALYSIS
According to Glazer, Prescott felt a "pop" in his right ankle, and the team was concerned enough to give him a series of X-rays, which came back clean. The conclusion from the team was that Prescott likely had some scar tissue from his surgically repaired ankle come loose, but he's free and clear for the season opener. The issues that are troublesome for the Cowboys (lack of depth at receiver, left tackle Tyron Smith's knee injury) remain, but at least Prescott avoided a major setback with his ankle.

Cleared for Sunday night
Prescott (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, Jori Epstein of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott returned to full participation Friday after a limited practice Thursday. The Cowboys did some tests on his surgically repaired ankle and are confident there aren't any structural issues, but it's nonetheless possible this limits Prescott's mobility Sunday night. He'll face a veteran Tampa defense, without WR Michael Gallup (knee) or LT Tyron Smith (knee) at his side.
Sep 9, 2022
On track for full practice
Coach Mike McCarthy said Friday that he expects Prescott (ankle) to practice in full ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener against the Buccaneers, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
McCarthy said Prescott is on track to practice in full Friday and Saturday, and that he has no concerns about the quarterback's Week 1 availability. Prescott was limited in Thursday's session and listed with an ankle injury, but it doesn't appear that he's actually hampered to any notable extent. It will be stellar news for Dallas' offense if Prescott indeed boasts his full mobility against Tampa Bay's stout defensive front, especially with LT Tyron Smith (knee) out for most or all of the season.

Limited by ankle, will play Sunday
Prescott was a limited participant in Thursday's practice due to a right ankle injury, but he emphasized that he's fine and in no danger of missing Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. "I feel great. I still feel the best that I've felt in a very, very long time," Prescott said. "I'm good to go. I promise you."
ANALYSIS
Prescott indicated that he isn't dealing with any sort of ankle sprain and was merely experiencing some discomfort after he recently switched his shoes. As Gehlken notes, the right ankle is the same one in which Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocation in 2020, so the team is seemingly just taking some extra caution with the franchise quarterback. Prescott's return to full participation in Friday's practice would clear up any lingering concern about his availability for Week 1.

Not in line to play
Prescott and most other starters aren't expected to play in Friday's final preseason game against Seattle, with the Cowboys looking ahead to their Week 1 matchup with the Buccaneers, Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott hasn't played in the preseason since coach Mike McCarthy took over, and this year it had nothing to do with an injury or pandemic. The 29-year-old QB stayed healthy throughout spring and summer after having minor surgery on his non-throwing shoulder in February, but he may nonetheless find the upcoming season more challenging than last, as the Cowboys no longer have WR Amari Cooper, won't have WR Michael Gallup (knee) for Week 1 and expect LT Tyron Smith (knee) to miss most or all of the season. Prescott still has WR CeeDee Lamb and TE Dalton Schultz at his disposal, plus RBs Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard, so it's not like he won't have some help when the Cowboys square off with Tom Brady and Co. on Sunday Night Football in Week 1.
Aug 20, 2022
Won't play Saturday
Prescott won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is working out before the game but is one of the many starters that figure to be held out as a precaution.
Aug 19, 2022
Continues to shine in camp
Prescott is having the best training camp of his career according to Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. "I thought he's had his best camp that I've seen him have since he's been a Cowboy," Jones said this week. "Velocity, his accuracy, the whole thing. Obviously, as the quarterbacks get older, they get better. The good ones do. They get better every year. There's no question in my mind, I think he's had his best training camp he's ever had."
ANALYSIS
The quarterback is also fully healthy for the first time in a couple years, which undoubtedly helps, but Prescott appears to be showing some further skill growth in camp as well. The Dallas receiving corps is currently missing both Michael Gallup (knee) and James Washington (foot), while CeeDee Lamb (toe) is a little banged up too, so Prescott likely won't get a chance to fully demonstrate he's taken a step forward until the regular season even if he does see action in the Cowboys' remaining preseason games. Once all his main targets are healthy though, he could be poised for another elite run like he had at the beginning of 2021.
Aug 13, 2022
Unlikely to suit up Saturday
Prescott isn't slated to play in Saturday's preseason game at Denver, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Prescott won't be available Saturday and likely won't suit up next Saturday at the Chargers, either. Coach Mike McCarthy said as much in late July, noting the Cowboys will evaluate whether the team's top skill-position talents will make an appearance in a game before Week 1. In Prescott's stead, Cooper Rush, Will Grier and Ben DiNucci will handle QB duties for Dallas.
Jul 30, 2022
Preseason workload uncertain
Prescott may not see many reps during the preseason, and Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy wouldn't commit to playing his starting quarterback in either of the team's first two exhibition games, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
"We have a plan, really for the first two [preseason games]," McCarthy said Friday. "And then I think we'll evaluate." The coach emphasized that veteran players like Prescott would see plenty of action during joint practices against the Broncos and Chargers, however. "This is the first time I've done this heavy practice against other teams. We're going one (practice) against Denver, two (practices) against the Chargers. When we get past the Chargers game we'll set a plan for the Seattle week. That's what we're looking at." Prescott didn't play in the preseason at all last year while finishing his recovery from ankle surgery, but with the QB healthy in camp this time around, he could see some exhibition game action before Week 1.
Jun 15, 2022
Should be more mobile this season
Prescott is expected to have more leeway to make plays outside the pocket this season, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The quarterback won't suddenly become a top rushing threat a la Lamar Jackson or Jalen Hurts, but Prescott's passing numbers throughout his career have been better when he's been on the move. He wasn't allowed out of the pocket as much in 2021 after coming off multiple ankle surgeries the prior offseason and then dealing with a midseason calf issue -- his 99 dropbacks with a rollout or scramble was the fewest of his career over a full season, even though he still posted a QB rating of 112.1 on those attempts -- but the 28-year-old appears to be fully healthy ahead of training camp and ready to use his legs again. He could also be more active again as a runner in the red zone in 2022. After scoring exactly six rushing TDs in each of his first three NFL seasons, Prescott ran for only one last year.

Announces shoulder is healthy
Prescott said Monday that his left, non-throwing shoulder is "fine," and he has no limitations following surgery in February, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
When the surgery was reported in early March, it was termed a "clean-up" procedure, according to Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News. With his health not in question for the offseason program, Prescott now can focus on getting acquainted with a revised receiving corps that lost Amari Cooper via trade to the Browns and Cedrick Wilson in free agency to the Dolphins. At this point, CeeDee Lamb is the Cowboys' unquestioned top wide receiver, followed by Michael Gallup -- who tore his ACL in Week 17 -- newcomer James Washington and Noah Brown. As for the rest of the skill positions, Prescott has holdovers Ezekiel Elliott (knee) and Tony Pollard at running back and Dalton Schultz at tight end.
Mar 8, 2022
Agrees to contract restructure
The Cowboys have restructured Prescott's (shoulder) contract, a move that that frees up about $15 million in salary cap space in advance of free agency, Rob Phillips of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
By converting a portion of Prescott's 2022 base salary into a signing bonus, the Cowboys gain added flexibility for free agent signings, as well as inking the team's upcoming draft class. The QB is bouncing back from an offseason clean-up procedure on his left (non-throwing) shoulder that isn't expected to impact his ability to participate in the Cowboys' offseason workouts. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old figures to be working with a re-tooled wideout corps this coming season, with Dallas expected to part ways with Amari Cooper and both Michael Gallup (knee) and Cedrick Wilson poised to become free agents.
Mar 1, 2022
Has procedure on left shoulder
Per coach Mike McCarthy, Prescott had an offseason "clean-up" procedure on his left (non-throwing) shoulder, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
With regard to Prescott's procedure, McCarthy noted "It's not a concern. We have no concern. He is doing well." With that in mind, the franchise QB is expected to be a full participant in Cowboys' offseason workouts. This past season, Prescott -- who turns 29 on July 29 -- suited up for 16 games, with his only absence occurring in Week 8, when a calf injury sidelined him and led to Cooper Rush drawing a spot start for Dallas.
Jan 16, 2022
Late comeback falls short
Prescott completed 23 of 43 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown with an interception while rushing the ball four times for 27 yards and a second TD in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the 49ers in the wild-card round.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys had a rough first half and found themselves down 23-7 heading into the fourth quarter, but Prescott led his team on two scoring drives to make things close, capping the second one with a five-yard TD run. Unfortunately, the comeback fell short when he scampered for 17 yards with only 14 seconds left on the clock and no timeouts to try and set up an easier hail mary attempt, only for the clock to hit zeros before Prescott could spike it. It was a disappointing end to a promising season for Dallas, but the QB still set career highs in completion percentage (68.8 percent) and passing touchdowns (37) while compiling 4,449 passing yards over 16 games. Even if the Cowboys lose offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and make some coaching changes in the offseason, Prescott should still be set up for success in 2022.
Jan 8, 2022
Career high in win
Prescott completed 21 of 27 passes for 295 yards and five touchdowns in Saturday's 51-26 win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was excellent in the first half, throwing for four touchdowns for the second time in his last three games. With another passing score to begin the fourth quarter - his last play of the night - Prescott set a career high in the category Saturday. The signal-caller did so while continuing to incorporate Cedrick Wilson in Michael Gallup's (knee) absence, boding well for the Cowboys' offensive options in the playoffs. While Prescott now enters the postseason on a high note, he finishes the regular season with a personal-best 37 passing touchdowns in 16 appearances as well.
Jan 3, 2022
Tosses three TDs in losing effort
Prescott completed 24 of 38 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns while adding 20 rushing yards on five carries in Sunday's 25-22 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
The Dallas offense was stuck in neutral for most of the first half until Prescott hit Michael Gallup (knee) for a 21-yard TD inside the final two minutes of the second quarter, and while the QB attempted to rally the team in the fourth quarter, he eventually ran out of time. Prescott has set a new career high with 32 passing TDs on the season while topping 4,000 yards for the second time, but with the Cowboys likely locked into the No. 4 seed in the NFC and little on the line, he may not see much action in Week 18 against the Eagles.
Dec 26, 2021
Dominant in statement win
Prescott completed 28 of 39 pass attempts for 330 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 21 yards on four carries in Sunday's 56-14 rout of Washington.
ANALYSIS
This was one of Prescott's cleanest performances of his career, and he accomplished most of it in the first half alone. The star quarterback's gaudy results are even more impressive when you consider the same Washington defense picked him off twice and held him to 211 passing yards when the two teams met just two weeks ago. Prescott hadn't quite looked like his usual self in the seven games since returning from injury, but this dominant performance against a team that was fighting for its playoff life is as great of a sign his fantasy managers could hope for at a pivotal point of the fantasy season. Prescott will look to build a hot streak in another important NFC showdown against the Cardinals next Sunday.
Dec 19, 2021
Modest numbers in division win
Prescott completed 28 of 37 passes for 217 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Cowboys' 21-6 win over the Giants on Sunday. He also netted minus-1 yard on two rushes, lost a fumble and recovered another.
ANALYSIS
With the Giants' offense once again helmed by the perpetually ineffective Mike Glennon, head coach Mike McCarthy could afford to keep things relatively close to the vest offensively once it became clear the Cowboys defense wouldn't be pressed much. That led to another day of modest numbers for Prescott, who did find the end zone once on a one-yard touchdown toss to Dalton Schultz late in the third quarter for the final points of the afternoon on either side. For fantasy managers riding him with him in their playoff games Sunday, the fact the Cowboys didn't aggressively attack downfield more against a New York secondary missing multiple starters had to be particularly disappointing, but the approach was more than effective to garner Prescott and his teammates another key late-season win. Prescott's next chance to come up big at a critical time of year will be a Week 16 home date against Washington.
Dec 12, 2021
Ineffective on the road
Prescott completed 22 of 39 pass attempts for 211 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against Washington on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
It was an ugly game for Prescott, who began the game reasonably well but struggled in the second half. Prescott let Washington back into the game with a fourth quarter pick-six to linebacker Cole Holcomb, who Prescott evidently just did not see before making the throw. The Washington defense has played better in recent weeks than it did at the beginning of the season, so perhaps Prescott just got the worst of Washington's unexpected ascent, but it would be difficult to rationalize any additional poor play from this point with the Giants up next in Week 15.
Dec 2, 2021
Workmanlike effort in win
Prescott completed 26 of 40 passes for 238 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Cowboys' 27-17 win over the Saints on Thursday night. He also rushed three times for minus-3 yards.
ANALYSIS
Prescott averaged a modest six yards per attempt and counted a 41-yard first-half connection with Amari Cooper as his longest completion. However, he made only one mistake, which didn't result in any points for the Saints. Prescott failed to throw multiple touchdown passes for only the second time since Week 3, but he still turned in a serviceable fantasy effort overall. He and his now healthy receiving corps will target an even more prolific performance in a Week 14 road trip to Washington a week from Sunday.
Nov 26, 2021
Thanksgiving comeback falls short
Prescott completed 32 of 47 passes for 375 yards and two touchdowns in a 36-33 overtime loss to the Raiders on Thanksgiving. He also gained three yards on his only carry and threw a two-point conversion to Dalton Schultz.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys' offence once again looked disjointed to begin the game as Prescott had trouble connecting with a somewhat ragtag group of wideouts that was missing both Amari Cooper (COVID-19) and CeeDee Lamb (concussion). The quarterback found his rhythm late, however, and both Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson wound up hitting triple digits in receiving yards as Prescott led a second-half comeback that ultimately fizzled in OT. He should get at least Cooper back in the lineup in Week 13, giving Prescott a high ceiling once again as Dallas travels to New Orleans.
Nov 21, 2021
Gets little time in pocket Sunday
Prescott completed 28 of 43 passes for 216 yards with two interceptions in Sunday's 19-9 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
His 5.0 YPA was his worst performance of the season, but Prescott was sacked five times as the Dallas offensive line couldn't offer him much protection, and he was also missing his top two targets once CeeDee Lamb was knocked out of the game with a concussion. Prescott will be hoping to get both Lamb and left tackle Tyron Smith (ankle) back for a Thanksgiving Day clash with the Raiders, but if not the QB's fantasy production could be significantly curtailed once again.
Nov 14, 2021
Bounces back in blowout win
Prescott completed 24 of 31 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 43-3 win over the Falcons. He added five yards and a touchdown on two rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Prescott made sure to avoid the same fate as last week, when the Cowboys dug themselves in a 16-0 halftime hole, as he capped Dallas' opening drive with a 13-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb. He added a nine-yard touchdown to Lamb -- who later exited due to an arm contusion -- with 1:10 to go before halftime. Prescott also accounted for all of the second-half points scored by either team when he ran it in himself from four yards out late in the third quarter. Lamb's injury isn't believed to be serious, and with Michael Gallup (calf) coming back from IR for this game, Prescott should have his full complement of receiving weapons when the Cowboys travel to Kansas City in Week 11.
Nov 7, 2021
Produces in garbage time
Prescott completed 19 of 39 passes for 232 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 30-16 loss to the Broncos. He added two rushes for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
Prescott turned in a disastrous performance for much of the game, as he entered halftime with only 75 passing yards on five completions. While his final stat line suggests that Prescott and the Cowboys picked up their performance in the second half, the vast majority of his production came once the team was down 30-0. Coming off a one-game absence caused by a calf injury, Prescott will look to get back to his prolific form for a Week 10 matchup against Atlanta.
Nov 4, 2021
Puts in full practice
Prescott (calf) was a full practice participant Thursday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was on the precipice of returning to action Week 8 at Minnesota, but the Cowboys ultimately played it safe and made him inactive, instead rolling with Cooper Rush under center. Dallas opened Week 9 prep with Prescott as limited, as he was all of last week, but coach Mike McCarthy relayed to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that Prescott was slated to have no limitations Thursday. Prescott followed up on that statement and now is poised to start Sunday's game against the Broncos.
Nov 4, 2021
Will practice fully, play Sunday
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Prescott (calf) is expected to practice fully Thursday and is on track to play Sunday against the Broncos, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Following a Week 7 bye, Prescott sat out last week's win over the Vikings while he continued to tend to a strained right calf. Because Prescott missed most of last season with a severe injury to the ankle of the same leg, the Cowboys may have just been taking some extra precautions by holding him out Week 8. Prescott took a positive step forward to begin Week 9 prep by practicing on a limited basis Wednesday, and if he does in fact upgrade to full activity Thursday, there's a good chance he'll enter the weekend without an injury designation. The Cowboys will release their official injury report shortly after Thursday's practice concludes, at which point it will be revealed whether Prescott did in fact take part in full or if he remained limited for the second day in a row.
Nov 3, 2021
Remains limited Wednesday
Prescott (calf) was listed as limited on Wednesday's injury report, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys held what they called a "scaled-back practice" to kick off Week 9 preparations. According to Todd Archer of ESPN.com, Prescott began the session by taking part in all pre-practice work with Dallas' quarterbacks, which was a step up from focusing on rehab before jumping into drills last week. Still, Prescott's reps remained limited, like they were a week ago as he continues to get past a right calf strain. He's aiming to miss just one game as a result of the injury, but Cooper Rush is available to start in the event Prescott's absence extends to a second contest Sunday against the Broncos.
Nov 2, 2021
Looks destined for Week 9 return
Cowboys president Jerry Jones said Tuesday "we have every reason to think [Prescott will] be on the field for us this week," Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike McCarthy expressed similar confidence in Prescott's chances of suiting up Week 9 on Monday, so all indications remain that the star quarterback is trending in the right direction. Per McCarthy, Prescott is expected to practice in a limited capacity Wednesday and then log a full session Thursday. As long as any setbacks are avoided, it looks like fantasy managers can expect Prescott's calf strain to be an issue of the past by the time Sunday's contest against the Broncos kicks off.
Nov 1, 2021
Expected to play in Week 9
Coach Mike McCarthy expects Prescott (calf) to play this coming Sunday against the Broncos, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Jon Machota of The Athletic, McCarthy indicated Prescott will likely be limited at practice Wednesday, but added that Prescott is in line to practice fully Thursday. Assuming no setbacks, Dallas' franchise signal-caller would then be in line to return to action in Week 9 after being made inactive for the team's 20-16 win over the Vikings this past Sunday.
Oct 31, 2021
Sitting out Sunday
Prescott (calf) is inactive for Sunday's game at Minnesota, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott strained his right calf while throwing a game-winning touchdown to CeeDee Lamb back in Week 6 at New England. Even with the benefit of a Week 7 bye, though, Prescott had limitations when the Cowboys returned to the practice field Wednesday. He increased his activity during Thursday's session to test out the calf but emerged with soreness, which was the primary reason the team treated the situation so delicately. Prescott's availability Sunday came down to a pregame workout, after which Dallas' decision makers didn't give the quarterback clearance to suit up. He'll thus yield quarterback duties to backup Cooper Rush for at least one contest.
Oct 31, 2021
Remains game-time call for Week 8
A decision on the status of Prescott (calf) for Sunday night's game against the Vikings remains "up in the air," Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that backup QB Cooper Rush took the team reps in practice this past week and he'd draw the start if Prescott is unable to go. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Prescott wants to play and will go through warmups prior to the contest before a determination is made on his Week 8 status, however Rapoport indicates that if there's any doubt, the Cowboys could err on the side of caution with their franchise signal-caller. As a true game-time decision for Sunday night's 8:20 ET kickoff, Prescott is a risky fantasy option for those without an alternative to turn to in the event that he ends up inactive.
Oct 30, 2021
Game-time decision for Sunday
Prescott (calf) is deemed a true "game-time decisions" ahead of the Sunday night contest against the Vikings, Ed Werder of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
It sounds as if Prescott himself expected some sort of resolution regarding his status for the Sunday prime-time battle, but following what amounted to a walkthrough practice Saturday to test out the injured calf, the team opted to delay the decision longer. Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News believes Prescott will be active for Sunday's game and hinted the latest news is essentially a bit of roster gamesmanship by coach Mike McCarthy, but in any case it does appear as if Prescott's status is truly up in the air. More information regarding his availability should arrive prior to the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff, but if the star quarterback is unable to play, unproven Cooper Rush will operate as the team's top signal caller.
Oct 29, 2021
Questionable for Sunday night
Prescott (calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Minnesota, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was a limited practice participant Wednesday through Friday and appears truly questionable for the Sunday night game in Minnesota. Reporters and teammates have suggested the quarterback looked good in practice this week, but head coach Mike McCarthy has preached caution on multiple occasions and even mentioned Friday that Prescott felt a little sore after Thursday's practice. McCarthy said the soreness wasn't anything unusual, but it does reinforce the notion that Prescott is still bothered by his calf to some degree. While he hopes to play, Prescott acknowledged Thursday that the coaching staff and medical staff will have final say. Cooper Rush will start at quarterback against the Vikings if Prescott ultimately is held out.
Oct 29, 2021
Feels sore, should practice Friday
Coach Mike McCarthy said Prescott (calf) is feeling a bit sore but is expected to practice Friday, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old pushed himself a bit during Thursday's workout and practice, and McCarthy said it's not surprising the quarterback is feeling some soreness as a result. The fact Prescott has that soreness two days from gameday -- while also coming off a bye week -- isn't a great sign, and the Cowboys could be cautious with their star signal-caller this weekend. Prescott previously said he wants to play but that decision isn't up to him, and it's clear the team is preparing to potentially face Minnesota with Cooper Rush at quarterback. The release of Dallas' official injury report later Friday should provide a better idea of Prescott's outlook, but his status could remain cloudy until later in the weekend as he continues to be evaluated.
Oct 28, 2021
Another limited showing
Prescott (calf) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike McCarthy laid out the plan for Prescott earlier Thursday, stating he would take part in rehab first before moving on to individual drills, at which point the Cowboys would assess to see if he was fit for some team work, according to Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site. Prescott proceeded to do just that, including change of direction and holding a ball after dropping back from center, per Todd Archer of ESPN.com. Afterward, Prescott acknowledged to Watkins that it isn't his decision whether he'll be able to play through a strained right calf Sunday in Minnesota. Such a call will be a collaboration between the coaching, training and medical staffs, but if Prescott isn't able to suit up Cooper Rush will be prepared to start under center for the Cowboys.
Oct 27, 2021
Back in limited capacity
Prescott (calf) officially was limited at Wednesday's practice, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Prescott's practice reps were capped coming off the Cowboys' Week 7 bye, which was well-timed after he strained his right calf on his game-winning TD toss to CeeDee Lamb in the Week 6 win at New England. During the portion of Wednesday's session open to the media, Prescott focused on rehab work before joining individual drills, where his activity included handoffs and passes during routes on air, per Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News. Meanwhile, backup QB Cooper Rush handled most of the first-team reps. Lamb himself told Gehlken that Prescott was "the same Dak" and looked "great. In and out of his drops. ... To me, he looks perfectly fine." Wednesday was the first test in Prescott's quest to miss no time as a result of the calf injury, and he'll have two more practices to log a full session before Dallas gives him a designation or outright clears him to play Sunday in Minnesota.
Oct 27, 2021
Limited to individual drills
Prescott (calf) is scheduled for individual drills Wednesday, while backup quarterback Cooper Rush will take more first-team reps in practice, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike McCarthy said he wants to make sure Rush is ready to play, even though Prescott has "improved every day" since straining his calf at the very end of the Week 6 win over New England. A bye week helped his chances to avoid a missed game, and McCarthy did leave the door open for Prescott to jump in for some team work later in Wednesday's practice if everything goes well with individual drills. Either way, Prescott is expected to be listed as a limited participant Wednesday afternoon when the Cowboys release their first injury report for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Oct 24, 2021
Should practice Wednesday
Prescott (calf) isn't expected to take part in the Cowboys' light practice session Monday following the team's Week 7 bye, but he should be back on the field Wednesday, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network report.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is recovering from a right calf strain suffered on the final play of the Cowboys' 35-29 overtime win over the Patriots in Week 6, but a well-timed bye has left Dallas optimistic that the signal-caller will be ready to go for a Week 8 matchup with the Vikings on Halloween. The Cowboys' decision to withhold Prescott from Monday's session looks to be mostly precautionary, and so long as he's at least a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, fantasy managers shouldn't have too much concern about his Week 8 availability. The calf injury does increase the possibility that Prescott shuts down his involvement as a runner, but he's already taken a major step back in that area in 2021, perhaps as a result of the devastating leg injury that cost him most of the 2020 season. Through the Cowboys' first six games, Prescott is averaging a career-low 3.2 yards per carry (70 yards on 20 attempts) and has failed to score a touchdown on the ground after recording no fewer than three in any of his first five NFL s
Oct 18, 2021
Dealing with strained calf
Coach Mike McCarthy relayed Monday that Prescott's MRI confirmed that the QB has a strained calf, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
The plan is for Prescott to rest and rehab during Dallas' upcoming bye week and then be re-evaluated next Monday, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports. Meanwhile, both Hill and Helman note that the the team is optimistic that the signal-caller will be available for Dallas' Oct. 31 road game versus Minnesota.
Oct 18, 2021
Expects to be fine
Prescott (calf) expects to suit up without issue after a Week 7 bye, and the results of Monday's medical tests are encouraging, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott sustained a right calf strain during the final play of Sunday's overtime win against the Patriots. The immediate timing of Dallas' bye is certainly lucky, as it looks like Prescott will be able to avoid missing time. The 28-year-old has thrown three or more touchdowns in five of six appearances this season.

Hurts calf on OT winner
Prescott suffered a right calf strain on the final play of Sunday's 35-29 overtime win over New England, Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reports. Prior to suffering the injury, he completed 36 of 51 passes for 445 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, in addition to running three times for 10 yards and losing a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Prescott hurt himself while throwing the game-winning 35-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb in overtime. Prior to that play, Prescott also found Blake Jarwin and Lamb for a pair of one-yard touchdowns. He also turned the ball over twice in the red zone. With the Cowboys on bye in Week 7, Prescott will likely have sufficient time to heal up before a Week 8 trip to Minnesota.
Oct 3, 2021
Throws four touchdowns
Prescott completed 14 of his 22 pass attempts for 188 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's Week 4 win over the Panthers. He added four rushes for 35 yards.
ANALYSIS
Dallas jumped out to a three-possession lead by late in the third quarter, which limited Prescott to only two passes in the final 17 minutes of the game. However, he was efficient with his opportunity to average 8.5 yards per attempt. Prescott also delivered touchdowns of 35, 23, 18 and six yards -- all of which went to different receivers. Besides a disappointing performance against the Chargers, Prescott now has at least three touchdowns in three of four games heading into a Week 5 matchup against the Giants.

Throws three TDs in rout
Prescott completed 21 of 26 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns in Monday night's 41-21 win over the Eagles. He also rushed nine times for six yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Prescott started by narrowly missing out on a 45-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb, who was pulled down at the one-yard line before Ezekiel Elliott capped the Cowboys' opening drive with a touchdown rush. The signal-caller then faced pressure in his own end zone on Dallas' next series, causing the ball to slip out of his throwing hand for a fumble that was immediately recovered for a Philadelphia touchdown. Prescott endured further frustration after Elliott had a touchdown catch reversed and brought back to the one-yard line on the next drive, which ended after the quarterback was stuffed on a subsequent fourth-down sneak attempt. Amid all those near-misses, however, Prescott was still highly efficient as a passer and ultimately finished with a trio of passing touchdowns, finding tight end Dalton Schultz twice and wideout Cedrick Wilson on a two-yard play on fourth down for his other. Overall, that made for an excellent showing from Prescott, who now boasts six touchdowns versus two interceptions and has com

Quiet in road win
Prescott completed 23 of 27 passes for 237 yards and an interception in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore made a point of heavily involving the Dallas ground game after Prescott attempted 58 passes in last week's loss, and as a result the quarterback posted very disappointing fantasy numbers despite his efficiency. He did lead the Cowboys on a game-winning field goal drive at the end of the fourth quarter, however. With a more aggressive Cowboys defense looking like it might not dig the same kind of holes last year's unit did, Prescott may not have the week-to-week ceiling his Week 1 numbers suggested, but he should still be more productive in Week 3 at home against the Eagles.
Sep 10, 2021
Stellar in regular-season return
Prescott completed 42 of 58 attempts for 403 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Cowboys' 31-29 loss to the Buccaneers on Thursday night. He also rushed four times for 13 yards and fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
If there had been any lingering doubts about the fitness of Prescott's previously ailing shoulder and ankle, he unequivocally dispelled them with a sensational season-opening effort. The sixth-year quarterback impressively traded blows with Tom Brady throughout the night, and he displayed particularly remarkable chemistry with the wideout duo of Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb, who were on the receiving end of 20 of Prescott's completions, 243 of his yards and all three of his scores. Prescott's 21-yard scoring strike to Cooper in the final minute of the third quarter and steady hand during a subsequent 11-play, 60-yard late-fourth-quarter march that culminated in Greg Zuerlein's go-ahead 48-yard field goal put Dallas in position to win before Brady was able to help rescue the Bucs, but the performance of Prescott and the rest of the offense in the instant classic should certainly be encouraging to Cowboys fans and fantasy managers alike. Prescott will look to help Dallas bounce back in a Week 2 road battle vers

Contract restructured
Prescott had $6.25 million of his 2021 base salary converted into a signing bonus, creating an extra $5 million in cap space for the Cowboys, The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite the fact Prescott just signed his new four-year, $160 million contract in March, Dallas is already tinkering with the structure of the deal. The team isn't expected to use the cap space right away but will instead likely carry it forward to 2022 -- a bookkeeping move which could help soften the blow of the dead money on Jaylon Smith's contract, if the team elects to cut him by next spring.

Puts in full practice Monday
Prescott (shoulder) was a full practice participant Monday, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With the season opener just days away, Prescott will be out there Week 1 at Tampa Bay a little more than 11 months removed from the devastating right ankle injury he suffered Week 5 of last season. Previously, this was a question mark due to the latissimus strain he sustained in his right throwing shoulder early in training camp, which sidelined him for the entire exhibition slate. Prescott progressed well throughout August, though, and recently relayed to Jori Epstein of The Dallas Morning News that he hasn't endured any discomfort since returning to practice Aug. 25. On Thursday, Prescott will have the usual suspects in the skill positions in the form of WRs Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup and RB Ezekiel Elliott.

Declares self 100 percent healthy
Prescott said Friday that he's 100 percent healthy and hasn't had any soreness in his right shoulder since returning to practice Aug. 25, Jori Epstein of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott originally was scheduled for 7-on-7s in his first practice back with the team, but he ended up participating in 11-on-11s as well. News has remained positive in the week and a half since, including Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reporting Friday that the quarterback will be "full go" for Thursday's season opener at Tampa Bay. The shoulder injury limited Prescott's reps this summer after he completed his rehab from last year's injury, but he'll at least have CeeDee Lamb, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and Ezekiel Elliott helping him knock off any rust the first few weeks of the season. Right tackle La'El Collins (neck) is the top injury concern for the Dallas offense in Week 1, dealing with stingers the past couple weeks after he missed all of last season with a hip injury.
Aug 29, 2021
On track for Week 1
Cowboys president Jerry Jones relayed Sunday that Prescott (shoulder) is "good to go" for the start of the regular season, Rob Phillips of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Prescott won't play in Sunday's preseason finale against the Jaguars, per Jane Slater of NFL Network, the QB isn't expected to be on a pitch count going forward. Jones also noted that Dallas' franchise signal-caller "really turned it loose" during recent practices" and "was none the worse for it."
Aug 28, 2021
Airs it out Friday
Prescott (shoulder) completed three passes of 25 yards or more during Friday's practice, DallasCowboys.com reports.
ANALYSIS
He hit Malik Turner on a go route for about 45 yards, and also connected with Michael Gallup and Cedrick Wilson over the middle for completions of about 25 yards, giving further proof that his shoulder injury won't be an issue Week 1 against Tampa Bay. He won't play in Sunday's preseason finale, but with Prescott also fully recovered from the ankle injury that cut short his 2020 campaign, the 28-year-old appears poised for a healthy start to 2021.
Aug 26, 2021
Not on pitch count
Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said Prescott (shoulder) looked great during Wednesday's practice and shouldn't be on a pitch count moving forward, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
After completing 11 of 12 passes in full-team drills Wednesday afternoon, Prescott is well on his way to the Week 1 start. He may be a bit rusty after the season-ending ankle injury last year and the abbreviated training camp this year, but his track record of production suggests Prescott should be started in a majority of fantasy leagues whenever he's healthy enough to play. He'll likely be a full practice participant after the Cowboys wrap up their preseason against the Jaguars on Sunday.
Aug 25, 2021
Looking good for Week 1
Prescott (shoulder) took 18 snaps in 11-on-11s at Wednesday's practice and completed 11 of 12 passes. He remains on track for Week 1, according to Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News.
ANALYSIS
Earlier reports said Prescott would throw in 7-on-7s, but he ended up doing full-team drills instead, apparently looking sharp while throwing passes against defenders for the first time since late July. While the Cowboys aren't likely to rush him back for the final game of the preseason, Prescott is well on his way to the Week 1 start.
Aug 25, 2021
Throwing in 7-on-7s
Prescott (shoulder) will throw in 7-on-7s at Wednesday's practice, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
This will be the first time he's thrown passes against defenders since injuring his shoulder in late July. While it's far from ideal to miss the entire preseason and nearly all of training camp on the heels of a season-ending ankle injury the year before, Prescott does seem on track for Week 1 against the Buccaneers. Reports all along have suggested he should be ready for the opener.
Aug 21, 2021
Looks sharp in workout Saturday
Prescott (shoulder) completed 51 of 52 passes during a workout before Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. "He threw with authority and accuracy before the game," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said afterward on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. "If we were lining up against Tampa [Dallas' Week 1 opponent] tonight, he'd be starting, and we'd feel great about it."
ANALYSIS
Taking the field about 90 minutes before the exhibition contest, Prescott fired the ball around on a variety of short and intermediate routes with Ezekiel Elliott and others acting as his receivers. The QB still hasn't participated in any full team practices since injuring his shoulder in late July, but Saturday's very public performance should quell talk that the Cowboys are overly concerned about his long-term health. Based on this showing, look for Prescott to work his way back into full practice participation in the near future.
Aug 21, 2021
No setbacks with shoulder
Prescott (shoulder) has suffered no setbacks in his rehab and remains on track to start Sept. 9 against the Buccaneers, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
This comes after Adam Schefter suggested in a halftime televised segment Friday Prescott may not be 100 percent at all this season, and that the team has legitimate concerns about his health for the duration of the season. While the star quarterback missed most of last season following a gruesome ankle injury, a strained shoulder has been the cause of ire throughout training camp with Prescott only throwing on occasion as part of an ultra conservative approach to managing the injury. Coach Mike McCarthy suggested Prescott would be involved significantly more in practice as soon as this week, but it's still unclear if the signal caller will make an appearance at all in the preseaosn.
Aug 20, 2021
To increase activity next week
Prescott (shoulder) is expected to do more in practice next week, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. "He'll definitely be involved in some form of practice more than this week, but to stand here and tell you he'd be full go and take all the reps, I'm not there yet," coach Mike McCarthy noted Friday of the QB.
ANALYSIS
McCarthy added that he doesn't believe Prescott will be on a pitch count at practice once the regular season gets going, but for now the the Cowboys are proceeding cautiously with their franchise signal-caller. Per Jon Machota of The Athletic, Prescott won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Texans, which sets the stage for Garrett Gilbert to start the contest.
Aug 18, 2021
Likely out again this weekend
Coach Mike McCarthy acknowledged Wednesday that Prescott is unlikely to play in Saturday's preseason against Houston, Jori Epstein of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott remained limited Wednesday, his third straight practice after missing nearly three weeks. McCarthy already said he won't play his starting QB in the final preseason contest, so it looks like Week 1 against Tampa Bay will be Prescott's first game action since the season-ending ankle injury last October. He should return to full practice participation long before the season opener.
Aug 17, 2021
No urgency for preseason
Coach Mike McCarty said there's "no urgency" to see Prescott (shoulder) play in Saturday's preseason game against Houston, even though the quarterback won't play in the exhibition finale Aug. 29 against Jacksonville, ESPN.com's Todd Archer reports.
ANALYSIS
If Prescott doesn't play this Saturday, he won't suit up at all this preseason. It sounds like that's just fine with McCarthy, who said his quarterback was, "probably in midseason form from the amount of work he put in over the summer, coming out of the OTAs." It's still reasonable to worry about rust if Week 1 ends up being Prescott's first game since last October, particularly with the Cowboys opening their season against a vicious Tampa defense. In any case, Prescott is back on track to start that contest, having returned to practice Monday on a limited basis.
Aug 16, 2021
Iffy to play in preseason
Coach Mike McCarthy said that if Prescott (shoulder) is unable to play Saturday against the Texans, he won't suit up in the preseason, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is slated to be a limited participant in his return to practice, which will equate to QB drills and not much more with the Cowboys continuing to exercise caution with their franchise quarterback. He'll thus be held out of all 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 work Monday, just two days removed from getting good news from an MRI. Prescott is healing well from the latissimus strain he picked up in his right throwing shoulder during a July 28 practice, which has overshadowed his completed recovery from last season's gruesome right ankle injury. If Dallas ultimately keeps him on the sideline during exhibition season, he'll aim to be out there Thursday, Sept. 9 for the opener at Tampa Bay.
Aug 16, 2021
Returning to practice Monday
Prescott (shoulder) is expected to resume practicing Monday, albeit on a limited basis, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Reports last week said the QB would get an MRI on Monday, but he ended up having it a couple days earlier and reportedly got confirmation that his shoulder is progressing well. While he doesn't figure to do a ton of throwing at Monday's practice, Prescott may be able to ramp up his workload in time for a brief appearance in one of the Cowboys' final two preseason games. If not, Week 1 would be his first game appearance since the ugly ankle injury last October.
Aug 14, 2021
MRI reveals positive news
Prescott had a MRI on his shoulder Saturday which confirmed the quarterback is progressing along well in his recovery, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This follows Prescott's third throwing sessions since injuring his shoulder. With the positive prognosis, Prescott is expected to get some action against the Texans in the team's second preseason contest next week, although how much work remains to be seen.
Aug 13, 2021
Traveling with teammates
Prescott (shoulder) won't play in Friday's preseason game against the Cardinals, but he is traveling to Phoenix with his teammates, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It could be taken as a small sign of progress, after Prescott stayed back in Texas last week while the Cowboys traveled to Ohio for the Hall of Fame Game. He's scheduled for another MRI on Monday, but it isn't indicative of a setback, with Prescott even saying he'd be able to play this weekend if the Cowboys had a regular-season contest. The current issue with Prescott's throwing shoulder has overtaken last year's severe ankle injury as the primary concern for fantasy managers, as the 28-year-old QB is otherwise set up for success, boasting dual-threat skills in a fast-paced offense that has Amari Cooper (foot), CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup as the starting trio at wide receiver.
Aug 12, 2021
MRI scheduled for Monday
Prescott (right shoulder) is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday, Mac Engel of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
The fact that the QB is getting an MRI isn't indicative of a setback, with the report adding that Prescott, who continues to progress, stated Wednesday that if the regular season were to commence this weekend he would play. Though Dallas' franchise signal-caller indicated that he hopes to see action versus the Texans on Aug. 21, Engel suggests that the team may err on the side of caution and hold Prescott out through its exhibition slate.
Aug 11, 2021
Hopes to see game action 8/21
Prescott (right shoulder) hopes to participate in team drills Monday and play in the Cowboys' Aug. 21 preseason game against the Texans, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
"That's the plan," Prescott noted Wednesday. Gehlken adds that the QB is slated to undergo an MRI in the coming days, but given his optimism about playing in the team's third exhibition game, we suspect that Prescott's MRI will be precautionary in nature.
Aug 10, 2021
Gets more throwing in
Prescott (right shoulder) threw about 30 passes "to his left and right with most throws either short or intermediate," while working off to the side during Tuesday's practice, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that Prescott and wideout Amari Cooper (ankle) -- who came off the PUP list Tuesday -- went through a series of two-minute drill work together, a session that marked the most work that the QB has done with the media present since July 28. Though neither Prescott nor Cooper seem likely to see preseason action in short order, what the duo did Tuesday aligns with the notion that both players are progressing well toward their goals of being good to go for Dallas' regular-season opener.
Aug 8, 2021
Making progress
Prescott (right shoulder) has been able to do some "light throwing" for the first time since exiting practice July 28, ESPN's Todd Archer reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott is dealing with a latissimus strain in his throwing shoulder, with the Cowboys understandably proceeding cautiously with their star QB. Though it's unclear exactly what his "light throwing" has entailed, coach Mike McCarthy did note that Prescott is improving, and on the plus side, the report adds that the signal-caller has been taking part in footwork drills as well as conditioning work, while experiencing no issues with his surgically-repaired ankle. With no clear timetable for a return to practice, however, it's starting to look like we won't see Prescott take an exhibition game snap any sooner than Dallas' Aug. 21 tilt versus the Texans.
Aug 5, 2021
Aiming to be ready for Week 1
The Cowboys expect Prescott (shoulder) to be their starting quarterback Week 1 at Tampa Bay, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott's focus this offseason was getting back to full health from the gruesome right ankle injury he suffered Week 5 last October. He progressed enough to participate fully at the start of training camp, only to strain his right shoulder in a July 28 practice. Glazer clarified the nature of the injury before Thursday's Hall of Fame Game, relaying it's more like a baseball injury because it's "kind of under the armpit." As a result, the Cowboys contacted the Texas Rangers' training staff to get additional advice on how to proceed with his recovery. During a halftime interview with Fox Sports, Prescott said the team is "being cautious" with his health and added "it's five weeks for the season opener," time that he's using "to get myself ready for that game." Taking Glazer's and Prescott's comments into account, Dallas seemingly will take all precautions in advance of Week 1, meaning a preseason appearance may not be in the cards.
Aug 4, 2021
No go for Thursday
Prescott (shoulder) won't play in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Steelers, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott spent the offseason rehabbing his surgically repaired right ankle, making enough progress to be a full participant at the start of training camp. There was an expectation he would make an appearance during exhibition season, but a strain in his right throwing shoulder has thrown a wrench into those plans. As of Wednesday, Prescott has missed four practices in a row, instead going through individual drills before moving on to conditioning on the side. After Thursday's contest, the Cowboys have three more preseason games on the schedule, so he's likely aiming to be available for action Saturday, Aug. 21 versus the Texans, which coach Mike McCarthy expects to be the team's dress rehearsal for the regular season.
Aug 3, 2021
Team takes conservative approach
Prescott (shoulder) won't throw in practice Tuesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that the QB hasn't suffered any setbacks with his strained right shoulder, with coach Mike McCarthy noting that the team is "just being more conservative" at this time, with the big picture in mind. Prescott won't play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Steelers, but could resume throwing next week, per Archer.
Jul 29, 2021
Won't throw in practice
Prescott (shoulder) won't throw for at least two or three days, but he'll continue doing footwork drills and conditioning, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys hope Prescott can resume throwing this weekend, but Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram suggests it may not happen until next week. The good news for Prescott is that his injury isn't serious and doesn't have anything to do with the surgically repaired ankle.
Jul 28, 2021
Picks up shoulder strain
After undergoing an MRI on Wednesday, Prescott (ankle) has been diagnosed with a strained right shoulder, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was removed from Wednesday's practice due to a sore arm, and the nature of the issue now is known. After practicing without restrictions in training camp to date, he's now considered day-to-day, with eight days to go until the Cowboys' first preseason game Aug. 5 against the Steelers. The time away from the field can't hurt as he continues to put his severe right ankle injury from Week 5 of last season further in the rear-view mirror. And there's an expectation from Prescott himself that he'll get into game action before Week 1 of the coming campaign, which will be the final test of his recovery.
Jul 28, 2021
Dealing with arm soreness
Prescott (ankle) left Wednesday's practice due to soreness in his throwing arm, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys might consider scaling back Prescott's practice reps after he seemingly handled full workloads during the first four session of training camp. Some arm soreness in practice No. 5 isn't too worrisome, and a team spokesman has already called Prescott's removal from practice "purely precautionary." The quarterback is coming back from a severe leg/ankle injury, but both he and coach Mike McCarthy have said Prescott is expected to make an appearance in the preseason. Before that happens, he'll likely need to do contact work at practice.
Jul 28, 2021
Exits practice early
Prescott left Wednesday's practice early, but it didn't appear related to his surgically repaired ankle, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was pulled from drills and spent some time on the sideline before jogging back to the locker room. He'd made it through the first four practices of training camp without incident, completing 50 of 78 passes in team drills, per Todd Archer of ESPN.com. With Prescott likely to miss the reminder of Wednesday's practice, Garrett Gilbert is filling in at quarterback for the first-team offense.
Jul 23, 2021
Plans to play this preseason
Prescott and coach Mike McCarthy both expect the quarterback to play this preseason, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
We aren't likely t see Prescott in the Hall of Fame Game against Pittsburgh on Aug. 5, but he might suit up later in the preseason -- perhaps Aug. 21 vs. the Texans or Aug. 29 vs. Jacksonville. Regardless, he's well on his way to a Week 1 appearance, having participated in 11-on-11s this Thursday at the first practice of Cowboys training camp. The team may still limit Prescott's workload once full pads come on, though he says his surgically-repaired ankle has been a non-issue so far, noting that he doesn't even think about it when he's on the field.
Jul 22, 2021
Opens camp with full practice
Prescott (ankle) practiced fully Thursday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As the Cowboys kicked off training camp, Prescott took his usual place with the first-team offense, completing 11 of 16 passes during 11-on-11 drills. The development is a positive one for Prescott, who suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle that ended his season Week 5 last October. In any case, the true final test of his health will come at some point during the preseason, whether it's in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 5 or during one of Dallas' three other exhibitions next month.
Jul 22, 2021
Practices on first day of camp
Prescott (ankle) is participating in 11-on-11 drills Thursday afternoon at the first practice of Cowboys training camp, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
This comes as no surprise on the heels of coach Mike McCarthy's Wednesday media session in which he revealed his expectation for Prescott to be a full participant throughout camp. McCarthy did leave the door open for the Cowboys to limit Prescott's workload if any issues pop up, but it sounds like the QB is taking his normal snaps so far. He suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his ankle last October, then signed a four-year, $160 million contract in March.
Jul 21, 2021
Should practice fully in camp
Coach Mike McCarthy reiterated Wednesday that he expect Prescott (ankle) to be able to participate fully in practice once training camp opens, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, McCarthy did acknowledge that the notion of the QB working fully once camp gets underway is "still a projection" and that Prescott will need to be monitored. Still, things are clearly moving in the right direction for the team's franchise signal caller, who is bouncing back from a broken ankle that ended his 2020 season in Week 5.
Jun 8, 2021
Should be full-go at training camp
Head coach Mike McCarthy indicated Tuesday that he anticipates Prescott (ankle) being full-go by the time training camp rolls around, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Considering Prescott was nearly full-go for OTAs, it shouldn't come as a shock that he will likely be ready to resume his full duties under center next month. Prescott didn't get a ton of time to get acclimated to McCarthy's system last year before going down for the season with a compound fracture in his right foot, but he did complete 68 percent of his 222 pass attempts for 1,856 yards and a 9:4 TD:INT ratio over four-plus games, including 450-plus passing yards on each of the three games prior to going down. Prescott returns to the head of a Cowboys offense loaded with wideout talent, so there's no reason to expect a dropoff from him as long as he can stay on the field.
May 26, 2021
No issues in OTAs
Prescott didn't take part in full team drills during Tuesday's OTAs but his ankle didn't appear to be an issue during individual and 7-on-7 drills, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Per coach Mike McCarthy, the quarterback is "ahead of schedule" in his recovery from last year's ankle surgery. "I'm pretty much a full-go," Prescott said Tuesday. "I'm not being limited or restricted to doing anything. I'm ready to go. I don't know as far as being tackled or my ankle being jerked and stuff under a pile, obviously we're not there yet. But we're far from being there, so I'm good to go, really." He won't see any contact until then, but Prescott is on track to be a full participant once training camp begins in July.
May 15, 2021
On track for training camp
Coach Mike McCarthy said Prescott (ankle) is expected to be cleared in time for training camp in July, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old was given a 4-to-6 month recovery timeline after undergoing surgery to address the compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in October, and he also underwent a second cleanup procedure in December. Prescott reaches a new deal with the Cowboys in March that includes $126 million guaranteed, and the team remains optimistic about his recovery as it begins on-field work in the offseason program.
Apr 27, 2021
Continues to progress with recovery
Coach Mike McCarthy said Prescott is making progress in his recovery from a season-ending right ankle injury, Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site reports. "He's throwing now, doing footwork drills. He's made a lot of progress," McCarthy noted.
ANALYSIS
When he suffered the compound fracture and dislocation in Week 5 of last season, Prescott was leading the NFL in passing with 1,856 passing yards to go with nine touchdowns and four interceptions through nearly five contests. Once surgery was ordered up on the same day, he entered the rehab process, which included a second procedure in December, walking on an anti-gravity treadmill and in a pool in January and the aforementioned footwork drills in April. The Cowboys are aiming for Prescott to be healthy and ready for training camp.
Mar 8, 2021
Gets $126 million guaranteed
The Cowboys and Prescott (ankle) agreed to a four-year, $160 million contract, which includes $126 million guaranteed, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Among the terms of the deal, Prescott received a record-setting $66 million signing bonus and $75 million in 2021, per Schefter. Schefter also noted the Cowboys will placed the franchise tag on Prescott on Tuesday, which is merely a procedural move so they can't use the tag on the quarterback again in the future. With his future for the next four campaigns known, Prescott will resume his recover from a season-ending ankle injury with an aim toward being healthy for training camp.
Mar 8, 2021
Reaches agreement on new deal
The Cowboys and Prescott (ankle) reached an agreement on a new contract Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The terms of the deal have not been revealed, but Prescott is destined to avoid the franchise tag for a second straight season and instead will remain in Dallas for the long term. He's in the midst of his recovery from a brutal season-ending from Week 5 of the last campaign, but there's an expectation that he'll be healthy enough to take the field by training camp.
Feb 7, 2021
On track for training camp
Prescott underwent a second ankle surgery in December but is expected to be ready for training camp in late July, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The second ankle surgery wasn't considered a setback. Instead, the procedure strengthened his right ankle following October surgery that repaired a compound fracture and dislocation. The 27-year-old quarterback remains on track for training camp, although it's uncertain whether he'll be back with the Cowboys. Prescott would earn $37.6 million if he played under the franchise tag for a second straight season, but he'd like the security of a long-term contract, specifically a four-year deal to allow for another contract while he's in his prime. The Cowboys are still an ideal situation for Prescott, as the team features an elite arsenal of offensive weapons, including Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb.

Making impressive recovery progress
Prescott (ankle) is making impressive progress in his recovery and is expected to be in the Cowboys' plans for the 2021 season, Adam Maya of NFL.com reports.

Prescott has been walking on an anti-gravity treadmill and in a pool, and the Cowboys believe he can come back at 100 percent in 2021. In turn, the Cowboys are actively working toward a long-term deal with Prescott after the quarterback played on the franchise tag in 2020. Owner Jerry Jones even said that Prescott has increased leverage now because of how well he played before suffering the devastating ankle injury in Week 5. Through the first four games, Prescott posted 1,690 passing yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions, adding 86 rushing yards and three scores. If Prescott truly comes back at full speed and is retained in Dallas, the team will immediately be ready to make a playoff push in 2021 with mainstays Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper (lower leg), Michael Gallup and CeeDee Lamb in the fold.

Contract negotiations can resume
Getting Prescott signed to a long-term deal is the Cowboys' top offseason priority according to executive vice president Stephen Jones, Mike Fisher of Sports Illustrated reports.
ANALYSIS
"(It's) certainly at the top" of the team's to-do list, Jones said Monday on 105.3 The Fan. With the Cowboys' season officially over after Sunday's loss to the Giants, negotiations on a long-term contract can resume at any time, and both Stephen and his father, owner/GM Jerry Jones, have repeatedly insisted Prescott is their quarterback of the future. That said, the QB played last season under the franchise tag because the two sides couldn't agree on the length of a new deal, as Prescott and his camp wanted one that made him a free agent a year sooner than what Dallas was offering. Prior to his season-ending ankle injury in Week 5, the 27-year-old was only improving his bargaining position with an explosive start to the campaign that had him on pace for nearly 6,000 passing yards. Assuming Prescott is a Cowboy again in 2021, he should have all the key pieces of the offense back around him -- including offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who received a long-term extension of his own over the weekend -- and the

Recovering ahead of schedule
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday that Prescott (ankle) is progressing ahead of schedule in his recovery from surgery to repair his fractured ankle, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott isn't a candidate to return this season, but it's certainly good news to see that the 27-year-old's recovery is progressing quickly and without any setbacks. The Cowboys previously expressed optimism that Prescott, who began 2020 on a record-setting pace through five contests, will be able to participate in offseason workouts as early as late April. Jones also rejected the notion that the Cowboys could entertain drafting a quarterback in 2021 even with presented with a top-three pick, per Hill, saying "Prescott is our quarterback and we are fired up about our future with him." Dallas will have the option of assigning a $37.7 million franchise tag to Prescott for 2021 if he and the team can't agree on a long-term deal.

Officially moves to IR
The Cowboys placed Prescott (ankle) on injured reserve Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott's spot on the 53-man roster will be taken up by Leighton Vander Esch (collarbone). The star quarterback is set to remain on IR to conclude the 2020 season due to his right ankle compound fracture and dislocation, but the Cowboys are hopeful he'll be ready to participate in offseason workouts as early as late April. Team owner Jerry Jones has suggested that he envisions Dallas retaining Prescott, though it remains to be seen whether a long-term deal will be negotiated. The Cowboys will also have the ability to assign Prescott the franchise tag for a second consecutive year, though such a move would raise his salary to $37.7 million.
Oct 13, 2020
Should be ready for offseason work
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that he expects Prescott (ankle) will be ready to join the team for offseason workouts in late April or early May, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
A spring return to full activities essentially aligns with the 4-to-6-month recovery timeline Prescott received Monday after undergoing surgery to address the season-ending right ankle compound fracture and dislocation he suffered in the Week 5 win over the Giants. Even if his recovery proceeds as planned, Prescott may be reluctant to report for workouts until his contract situation is resolved. Prescott, who is playing under a $31.4 million franchise tag in 2020, could be tagged again in 2021 if he and the Cowboys aren't able to come to terms on a long-term deal. Jones has suggested that he's interested in retaining Prescott, though Jones noted Tuesday that he would like the coaching staff to be more judicious in how the quarterback is used as a runner coming off the major injury, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.com.
Oct 12, 2020
Expects 4-to-6 month recovery
Prescott (ankle) has been given a four to six month recovery window and will be released from hospitalization Monday, Jane Slater of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott's recovery timeframe sets him up to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a right ankle compound fracture and dislocation Sunday, for which he's since undergone successful surgery. Over five games in 2020, Prescott compiled 1,690 passing yards and a 9:3 TD:INT ratio, in addition to three rushing scores and a receiving touchdown. He'll now hand the reins over to Andy Dalton. The 27-year-old's anticipated rehab window hints at optimism that he could return for 2021 without major complications, though he doesn't yet have a contract with the Cowboys beyond this season.
Oct 11, 2020
Surgery a success
Prescott has undergone successful surgery to address his right ankle compound fracture and dislocation Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott had to undergo same-day surgery after suffering a devastating ankle injury against the Giants, and he'll now set his sights on what stands to be a long road to recovery. Given the severity of his injury, the Cowboys are expected to place Prescott on IR in the near future, while turning to Andy Dalton under center for the rest of the year. The 27-year-old doesn't currently have a contract with Dallas beyond the 2020 season.
Oct 11, 2020
Likely done for the year
Prescott is expected to miss the remainder of the season due to a severe ankle injury sustained during Sunday's 37-34 win over the Giants, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott had to be transported to a local Arlington hospital after suffering a right ankle compound fracture and dislocation Sunday, and he'll now undergo what is expected to be season-ending surgery to address the injury. The 27-year-old's 2020 campaign will come to an end with 1,856 passing yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions, a 16-game pace which would have put him on track to set multiple records. He also caught one touchdown versus the Giants. In Prescott's stead, Andy Dalton will step up under center and lead the Cowboys' passing attack for the rest of the year.
Oct 11, 2020
Undergoing ankle surgery
Prescott will undergo surgery on his right ankle Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott suffered what the Cowboys have termed a "serious right ankle injury" during Sunday's game against the Giants, as he had his leg twisted up while being tackled. The star quarterback had to be carted off the field and was immediately transported to a local Arlington hospital, where he'll undergo surgery tonight. Andy Dalton will slot into the starting lineup for Dallas as long as Prescott remains out.
Oct 11, 2020
Taken to hospital for evaluation
Prescott will be taken to a local hospital for evaluation after suffering a brutal ankle injury during Sunday's game against the Giants, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was carted off the field during the third quarter of Sunday's contest, when he suffered what the Cowboys have termed a "serious right ankle injury" while being tackled, as Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports. The Cowboys will rely on Andy Dalton under center for the remainder of Sunday's divisional match, and possibly for the foreseeable future, given the apparent severity of Prescott's injury.
Oct 11, 2020
Suffers gruesome injury
Prescott was carted off the field during Sunday's game against the Giants after his lower right leg was bent awkwardly at the end of a tackle, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Considering the concern from both sidelines, Prescott seems poised to miss significant time with this injury. He'll end his day 14-for-21 passing for 166 yards and one interception, two carries for seven yards and an 11-yard touchdown grab on a trick play. Andy Dalton will take over for Prescott under center.
Oct 4, 2020
Tops 500-yard mark vs. Browns
Prescott completed 41 of 58 pass attempts for 502 yards, four touchdowns and one interception Sunday against the Browns. He also carried two times for 12 yards in the 49-38 loss to the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Prescott set a new career best in passing yardage as he attempted to help his team battle back from yet another deficit. He connected for two touchdowns with CeeDee Lamb while adding scores to Amari Cooper and Dalton Schultz as well. Unfortunately, Prescott's lone interception on the day came in the final minutes as Dallas looked to draw near after closing a significant gap, sealing another disappointing outcome. Prescott's tendency to play from behind has been a huge boon to his fantasy value thus far, as he's on pace for an unsustainable 6,760 yards and 36 touchdowns through a quarter of a season. Next Sunday's game script against the Giants could be slightly different, but Prescott should still be considered a top fantasy option for that contest.
Sep 27, 2020
Huge numbers in loss
Prescott completed 37 of 57 passes for 472 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions in Sunday's 38-31 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
The showdown against Russell Wilson didn't disappoint, as Prescott become only the second quarterback in NFL history to throw for at least 450 yards in back-to-back games. Unfortunately, this time around his efforts didn't result in a comeback win, as his desperation heave into the end zone in the final seconds was intercepted by Ryan Neal. Prescott will look to stay hot in Week 4 against a Browns defense that's already been lit up by Lamar Jackson and rookie Joe Burrow this season.
Sep 20, 2020
Lucrative day against Falcons
Prescott went 34-for-47 passing with 450 yards and one passing touchdown, adding 18 yards and three touchdowns on five carries during Sunday's 40-39 win against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
As if the three rushing scores did not already boost him towards a week-winning fantasy performance Sunday, Prescott's 450 passing yards were good for the third-most in his 66 career regular-season outings. Prescott's performance may have been enhanced by game script, as Dallas fell into a 29-10 halftime deficit, forcing the quarterback to put up 28 pass attempts in the third and fourth quarters in order to execute a comeback. Already with 716 passing yards to his name in 2020, Prescott will next face a Seahawks defense that gave up 450 passing yards in its season debut.
Sep 14, 2020
Falls short on SNF
Prescott completed 25 of 39 pass attempts for 266 yards and a touchdown, adding 30 yards on three rush attempts in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Prescott was having a steady night against a tough Rams defense, coming a questionable offensive pass interference call away from potentially tying or taking the lead late in the 4th quarter. Overall, it appears that new head coach Mike McCarthy is more willing to take risks with his playcalling, which could result in bigger fantasy totals (at the expense of efficiency) for his signal caller. The addition of 17th-overall pick, CeeDee Lamb, (five catches for 59 yards) to Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup and Ezekiel Elliott gives Prescott the best supporting cast he has ever had as a pro. He gets a much softer matchup against the Falcons' defense in Week 2, so we may see the full potential of the Cowboys' offense unleashed Sunday.
Jul 14, 2020
Given final offer ahead of deadline
The Cowboys extended a final offer for a long-term contract to Prescott on Tuesday, Jane Slater of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott and the Cowboys only have until the July 15 deadline this Wednesday to come to terms on a potential extension, otherwise the signal-caller will be locked in to the $31.4 million franchise tag he signed last month. The deal on the table reportedly includes between $33-35 million annually with over $100 million in total guarantees, terms reminiscent of the offer Dallas was rumored to have made Prescott back in March. Slater notes that the Cowboys presented the current offer despite the fact that the team hasn't had any recent discussions with Prescott, a hint that the two sides still aren't close to agreeing to terms on a multi-year deal.
Jul 12, 2020
Extension talks not close
Prescott and the Cowboys aren't close agreeing on a long-term deal ahead of the July 15 deadline, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott signed his $31.4 million franchise tag last month, which obligates him to show up for the start of training camp even if a long-term deal isn't reached by the looming July 15 deadline. The Cowboys have reportedly attempted to negotiate a five-year contract with Prescott, while the soon-to-be 27-year-old signal-caller has pursued a deal with an additional four years added on. The two sides now have just a handful of days to come to terms a multi-year agreement before the franchise tag gets locked in, though Watkins notes that the "situation could change."
Jun 22, 2020
Signs franchise tag
Prescott signed his franchise tag from the Cowboys on Monday, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys extended the exclusive version of the tag, which gave Prescott no chance to talk with other organizations as a bargaining tool. Worth $31.4 million for the 2020 season, his representatives have until July 15 to reach agreement on a contract extension, but those talks have stalled as the Cowboys are aiming to lock Prescott in to a five-year deal while the quarterback is seeking four more years. In any case, Prescott now is obligated to report for the start of training camp.
Jun 21, 2020
Plans to sign franchise tender
Prescott intends to sign his $31.4 million franchise tender with the Cowboys by Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The two sides still have until July 15 to agreed to an extension, but signing the tender means Prescott will be contractually obligated to report for the start of training camp. The 26-year-old has been in communication with new coach Mike McCarthy despite not participating in the team's offseason program, but due to the offseason restrictions from COVID-19, he hasn't missed any on-field activities.
May 29, 2020
In touch with new coach
Prescott has been in contact with new Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy even though he has yet to sign his franchise tag offer or agree to a contract extension, Jonny Auping of DallasCowboys.com reports. "There has been communication," McCarthy confirmed. "This is the way these business situations go sometimes and [I] respect that. I have confidence that it will work out."
ANALYSIS
Under normal circumstances, Prescott being in contract limbo would have prevented him from participating in on-field activities with his teammates, but at the moment all he's missing are some virtual meetings. The fact that he's stayed in touch with McCarthy suggests the quarterback won't be behind in understanding any new wrinkles being added to the offensive scheme once in-person team activities are allowed to ramp up. Prescott and the Cowboys have until July 15 to work out an extension, a move that would free up additional cap space for the team, otherwise he'll play out the 2020 season under the franchise tag at a salary of $31.4 million.
May 1, 2020
Contract length at issue
The Cowboys' latest contract offer to Prescott would reportedly make him the highest-paid player in the NFL, but the two sides have so far been unable to agree on the length of the deal, per Clarence Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram.
ANALYSIS
The parameters currently being discussed would match the $35 million a season Russell Wilson is making, but while the Cowboys want the contract to run for at least five years to give them more roster stability and spread out the salary cap hit, Prescott's camp is asking for a four-year deal, presumably on the assumption that the market for his services is only going to become more favorable. With a July 15 deadline to get the QB under contract inching closer, expect the impasse to be broken sooner or later, although Jerry Jones has made a career out of waiting until the last minute to really ramp up negotiations. Until an agreement is reached, though, Prescott is choosing not to participate in the team's virtual offseason program.
Apr 21, 2020
Gets official tag salary
Prescott's franchise tag number has been recalculated to $31.4 million, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Reports on the value of the tag have been all over the place, and we finally get an official number now that the signing period for restricted free agents has ended. The Cowboys would've been looking at a smaller salary if they'd used the non-exclusive option instead of the exclusive tag, but that would've allowed Prescott to sign an offer sheet with another team, whereas the exclusive tag is exactly what it sounds like. The two sides have until July 15 to reach agreement on a long-term contract, with recent reports suggesting progress has been made.
Apr 20, 2020
Moving forward with contract talks
Prescott is making progress in contract discussions with the Cowboys, but it isn't clear if he'll participate in the voluntary, virtual offseason program, David Moore of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cowboys franchise-tagged Prescott in mid-March and reportedly resumed long-term contract negotiations in late March. The two sides still have plenty of time to reach an agreement before the July 15 deadline, and there might be a bit less pressure now that spring practices aren't part of the equation. The Cowboys do have a new head coach in Mike McCarthy, but offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is a holdover from 2019 and figures to retain the core elements of his scheme.
Mar 26, 2020
Restarts extension talks
Prescott and the Cowboys have resumed contract negotiations, ESPN.com's Ed Werder reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dallas front office shifted its focus to free agency after using the franchise tag on Prescott in mid-March. The team can now turn its attention back to the young quarterback, who reportedly wants a four-year contract. The Cowboys are hoping for a five-year deal, with July 15 representing the negotiation deadline before Prescott is forced to play under the tag in 2020.
Mar 16, 2020
Franchise tag applied
The Cowboys have placed the franchise tag on Prescott, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With no agreement on a long-term contract, the Cowboys had little choice but to use the tag on Prescott, who now has until mid-July to sign a multi-year deal. Meanwhile, wide receiver Amari Cooper will be able to field offers from other teams, as the recent completion of a new CBA means the Cowboys only have one tag to use this offseason.
Mar 7, 2020
Potentially receives contract offer
Prescott was allegedly offered a contract extension which includes $105 million in guaranteed money, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
The report also indicates Prescott would receive an average of $33 million per year, a number that exceeds Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in both total money and guaranteed. It seems unlikely the Cowboys would have truly offered those types of figures to their fourth-year quarterback considering a number of other soon-to-be free agents also figure to be in the franchises' plans, but this is now the second reported instance this offseason the Cowboys have reportedly met with Prescott's representation in regards to a new contract.
Jan 10, 2020
Contract resolution looming
Speaking on Prescott's upcoming free agency, executive vice president Stephen Jones told KTCK Sportsradio 1310 The Ticket that the Cowboys "got to land the plane" and finish a long-term deal with the quarterback.
ANALYSIS
Along with Ezekiel Elliott's holdout, Prescott's contract situation dominated the headlines for the Cowboys last offseason and into the preseason. While the running back received a much-anticipated extension before the campaign, Prescott did not, playing out the string on his rookie deal. He set career highs along the way, namely 4,902 yards through the air and 30 touchdowns, and did so while gutting out an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder over the final three games. Prescott has only missed a handful of snaps in his four-year career, which combined with his breakout as a passer should result in a hefty raise this offseason. Whether that translates to a multi-year contract or playing on the franchise tag remains to be seen.
Dec 27, 2019
Available for Week 17
Prescott (shoulder) was a limited participant in Friday's practice but won't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Redskins.
ANALYSIS
Per Todd Archer of ESPN.com, Prescott didn't throw Friday, but he apparently fit in enough work behind the scenes to upgrade to limited participation after registering "DNPs" on the Cowboys' first practice reports of Week 17. Based on the fact that Prescott isn't even listed as questionable for the regular-season finale, the Cowboys are apparently content to let the quarterback play through the sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder with a potential playoff berth on the line. The Cowboys need a win and an Eagles loss to the Giants to take home the NFC title, so expect Prescott to remain on the field Sunday until the outcome of either game is decided. In addition to being impacted by the shoulder injury, Prescott could make to make do without star left tackle Tyron Smith (back), who is questionable after failing to practice Wednesday through Friday.
Dec 27, 2019
Not spotted throwing
Prescott (shoulder) didn't throw any passes during the media-access portion of Friday's practice, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott did go through some individual drills, so he'll presumably be listed as a limited participant. It's similar to the plan he followed last week prior to suiting up for a 17-9 loss to the Eagles. Prescott presumably intends to play through the AC joint sprain for another week, as the Cowboys can still reach the playoffs if they beat Washington and the Eagles lose to the Giants.
Dec 27, 2019
Limited at best Friday
According to head coach Jason Garrett, Prescott (shoulder) "won't practice much if he practices at all" Friday, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Garrett said the same thing Thursday and Prescott was ultimately held out of practice, so it remains to be seen exactly how much he will do at the Cowboys' final session of the week. Even if Prescott misses Friday's practice entirely, he should still have a chance to play in Sunday's must-win matchup with Washington.
Dec 26, 2019
Logs 'DNP' in Thursday's session
Prescott (shoulder) was listed as a non-participant in Thursday's practice, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Jason Garrett suggested prior to the session that Prescott would be a limited participant, but whatever activity the quarterback was able to complete apparently wasn't enough for him to avoid a "DNP" listing on the injury report for a second straight day. Per Todd Archer of ESPN.com, Prescott wasn't seen throwing during the open portion of Thursday's practice and was instead taking part in individual drills, leaving Cooper Rush to direct the first-team offense. According to Jane Slater of NFL Network, Prescott is hopeful to resume throwing Friday, though he intimated that a pain-killing injection and/or hot and cold therapy may be necessary for him to play through the sprained AC joint in his right shoulder Sunday against the Redskins. At this point, Prescott seems likely to carry a questionable designation into the Week 17 matchup, though the Cowboys seem to be proceeding with the belief that he'll be able to suit up.
Dec 26, 2019
Set for another light workout
Coach Jason Garrett said that Prescott (shoulder) is progressing but will be limited in practice Thursday, if the quarterback "does anything at all," Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott went down as a non-participant on Wednesday's report, but since the Cowboys' Christmas Day practice was just a walk-through session, his listing on Thursday's report will provide a better representation of his status heading into Sunday's game against the Redskins. Based on Garrett's comments, Prescott looks set to follow the same practice regimen he followed last week, so there's still a decent chance he enters the regular-season finale without an injury designation. Cooper Rush will lead the first-team offense Thursday and would start this weekend in the event Prescott's condition unexpectedly takes a turn for the worse.
Dec 25, 2019
Logs DNP in practice
Prescott (shoulder) was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's walk-through practice, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott battled an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder heading into last Sunday's 17-9 loss to the Eagles, finishing the day with just 25 completions for 265 yards on 44 attempts. While Prescott didn't experience any reported setbacks coming out of the contest, the Cowboys are likely to manage his reps carefully during their final three regular-season practices, with coach Jason Garrett saying Wednesday the quarterback will be "limited at best" to begin the week, per Jon Machota of The Athletic. Dallas can still punch its ticket to the postseason with a win over the Redskins on Sunday coupled with an Eagles loss to the Giants, so expect Prescott to play on through the injury once the weekend arrives.
Dec 20, 2019
Cleared to play
Prescott (shoulder) won't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Philadelphia, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite being limited at each practice this week, Prescott has been cleared to make the start in a game that likely will decide the winner of the NFC East. He didn't do any throwing Wednesday or Thursday, and his activity at Friday's practice seems to have been limited to lobbing some short passes during position drills, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. While his active/inactive status is no longer a concern, it's fair to wonder if Prescott will be able to play at his usual level Sunday afternoon. Fantasy managers wouldn't be wrong for erring on the side of caution if they have reasonable lineup alternatives to replace Prescott or his pass catchers.
Dec 20, 2019
Throwing during practice
Prescott (shoulder) threw a football during individual drills at Friday's practice, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Previous reports suggested Prescott would be limited to non-throwing activities, but he's apparently made enough progress to at least make some short throws. In any case, the Cowboys have been clear about their expectation for the quarterback to play through his AC joint sprain in Sunday's crucial game against the Eagles. The bigger question is whether Precott will be the best version of himself, or even close to it.
Dec 20, 2019
May not throw Friday
Prescott (shoulder) will be a limited practice participant and is unlikely to throw Friday, Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old has been limited at practice all week and has yet to throw due to the AC joint sprain in his right shoulder, and it doesn't appear that will change at Friday's practice. The team has indicated to this point that Prescott is still expected to play against the Eagles on Sunday, but realistically he'll need to begin throwing in some capacity in the near future to quell doubts of his availability.
Dec 19, 2019
Officially limited in practice
Prescott (shoulder) turned in a limited practice Thursday, Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, coach Jason Garrett revealed prior to the session that Prescott wouldn't throw while continuing to rest his sprained right shoulder, so it doesn't come as a surprise that the quarterback went down as a limited participant for the second straight practice. Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News relays that team owner Jerry Jones expressed little concern about Prescott's availability for this weekend's all-important matchup with the Eagles during a radio appearance earlier Thursday, and the quarterback was similarly confident he'll be ready to go once Sunday arrives. Per David Helman of the Cowboys' official site, Prescott is optimistic he'll be able to increase his throwing activity Friday and/or Saturday to erase any lingering questions about his Week 16 status.
Dec 19, 2019
Not throwing again Thursday
Prescott (shoulder) didn't throw at Thursday's practice, but the Cowboys expect him to suit up Sunday in Philadelphia, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With an AC joint sprain in his right throwing shoulder, Prescott seems to be following a similar practice regimen to Wednesday, when he was deemed a limited participant. He likely will earn a similar tag Thursday, but the team appears untroubled about ability his ability to play this weekend. As evidence, owner Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan Dallas on Thursday that he's "not worried" about Prescott and is "totally convinced that he'll be in top form." Prescott's status may not receive clarity, though, until closer to Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 18, 2019
Limited in practice Wednesday
Prescott (shoulder) officially was limited at Wednesday's practice, David Helman of the Cowboys' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott came out of Week 14 with a sprained left hand and injured right index finger. While playing through them during this past Sunday's win against the Rams, he completed 15 of 23 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns. Moreover, he added 12 yards on seven rushes. On Wednesday, it emerged Prescott picked up yet another injury, which was termed an AC joint sprain in his right throwing shoulder by teammate Ezekiel Elliott, according to Todd Archer of ESPN.com. "He just banged it up and it's hard for him to function right now, so [I] don't want him throwing much in practice today," coach Jason Garrett added. With confirmation of his limitations in practice, Prescott's status will be monitored closely as the Cowboys prepare for Sunday's key divisional matchup at Philadelphia.
Dec 18, 2019
Bothered by throwing shoulder
Prescott (finger) will be limited in Wednesday's practice due to a right shoulder injury he picked up during the first half of Sunday's 44-21 win over the Rams, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott injured his right index finger the previous week in a loss to the Bears, but neither issue seems to pose much threat to his availability for a crucial Week 16 matchup with the Eagles. Coach Jason Garrett said Prescott won't do much throwing at Wednesday's practice but is "fully expected to play" Sunday in Philadelphia. The quarterback seemed fine in the Week 15 blowout victory, completing 15 of 23 passes for 212 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Dec 16, 2019
Has 'little' finger injury
Coach Jason Garrett said Monday that Prescott is playing through "a little injury to his (right) index finger," Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
During the Fox broadcast of Sunday's 44-21 smackdown of the Rams, analyst Troy Aikman said Prescott had a "hairline fracture on the top of" the finger in question. Aikman was referencing one of the injuries (also a sprained left hand) he sustained in a Week 14 loss at Chicago. According to Archer and Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News, Prescott does not have a fracture. Instead, Prescott's right index finger was smashed against the Bears, and there's a lot of residual bleeding under the skin on the top of that finger. He had the tip of it taped this past Sunday, completing 15 of 23 passes for 212 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while incurring no sacks. The 23 attempts marked a season low as the backfield duo of Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard compiled 36 combined carries, with Prescott adding seven himself.
Dec 6, 2019
Has hand sprain, right finger injury
Prescott suffered a sprained left hand and an injury to the right index finger on his right hand during Thursday's 31-24 loss at Chicago, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prescott had a season-low completion percentage (55.1) Thursday, but by sheer volume he accounted for 334 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions on his 49 official throws. He also didn't fumble, so awry passes were the only indication that he may have been dealing with an injury (or injuries). Coach Jason Garrett expects Prescott to be available for the Cowboys' next game Sunday, Dec. 15 versus the Rams, but the quarterback's practice reps will be interesting to watch in the interim.
