Back in Sunday's game
Mooney (ribs) returned to Sunday's game versus the Panthers, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney left the contest just before halftime but was able to get back on the field in the middle of the third quarter. He had three catches (on four targets) for 34 yards prior to his first-half exit.

Injures ribs Sunday
Mooney suffered a rib injury during Sunday's game against the Panthers, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit late in the second quarter, Mooney had gathered in three of four targets for 34 yards. David Sills and KhaDarel Hodge figure to see an increase in snaps alongside No. 1 WR Drake London for as long as Mooney is sidelined.
Nov 11, 2025
One catch in win
Mooney caught one of eight targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 31-25 loss to the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Mooney caught just one pass for the third straight week, though his eight targets were tied for a team high with fellow receiver Drake London. The 28-year-old has not been able to get on the same page with quarterback Michael Penix lately, making him a difficult player to trust for fantasy purposes. Mooney will have his next opportunity to bounce back in a Week 11 home game against the Panthers.
Nov 3, 2025
Another one-catch outing
Mooney caught one of two targets for 15 yards during Sunday's 24-23 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Mooney played every offensive snap for the first time this season, but he finished with only one catch for a third time in six appearances. The wideout caught three passes for a season-high 68 yards during his return from a one-game absence due to a shoulder injury, but he totaled only two receptions on six targets for 26 yards over his past two appearances. Only three Falcons saw more than two targets Sunday: Drake London (14), Bijan Robinson (10) and Kyle Pitts (seven).
Oct 30, 2025
Logs full practice Thursday
Mooney (hamstring) practiced in full Thursday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney upgraded from limited Wednesday due to his lingering hamstring issue to all activity one day later, indicating that it isn't much of a concern. Fellow WR Drake London (hip) and TE Kyle Pitts (ankle) again were limited, meaning Mooney currently is the healthiest among Atlanta's key pass catchers. Having said that, Mooney didn't benefit from London's absence this past Sunday versus the Dolphins, hauling in just one of four passes for 11 yards while working with fill-in QB Kirk Cousins. No. 1 QB Michael Penix (knee) also remained limited Thursday, so there's a chance Cousins will be under center Sunday at New England.
Oct 29, 2025
Limited in practice Wednesday
Mooney (hamstring) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing Week 6 with a hamstring injury, Mooney has topped 80 percent snap in back-to-back games, albeit with just nine targets and 79 yards in that time. His projection for Week 9 at New England partially depends on the healthy of QB Michael Penix (knee) and WR Drake London (hip), both of whom missed the Week 8 loss to Miami.
Oct 26, 2025
No benefit from London absence
Mooney brought in one of four targets for 11 yards in the Falcons' 34-10 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Drake London (hip) was a surprise inactive after being placed on the injury report Saturday, but Mooney and fill-in signal-caller Kirk Cousins were unable to connect until the latter portion of the contest. The disappointing showing featured a season-low receiving yardage total for Mooney, who now has two one-catch tallies in the last three games heading into a Week 9 road matchup against a tough Patriots defense.
Oct 24, 2025
Cleared to play
Mooney (hamstring) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Miami, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney missed Week 6 with the hamstring injury but returned last week to catch three of five targets for 68 yards while playing 83 percent of snaps in a 20-10 loss to the 49ers. He should get similar playing time this Sunday against one of the worst defenses in the league, though it isn't year clear if he'll be catching passes from Michael Penix (questionable - knee) or Kirk Cousins.
Oct 23, 2025
Another limited showing
Mooney (hamstring) was a limited practice participant Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney followed up Wednesday's limited walkthrough with a similar workload at Thursday's practice as he tends to the hamstring injury that has bothered him since Week 4 action. Following a Week 5 bye, he sat out Week 6 before returning to action this past Sunday in San Francisco, when he hauled in three of five passes for 68 yards on an 83 percent snap share. Mooney will have one more chance to practice in full Friday, or else risk heading into the weekend with a designation for Sunday's game versus the Dolphins.
Oct 22, 2025
Limited on practice estimate
Mooney (hamstring) was listed as limited on Wednesday's estimated injury report, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Plagued by the injury bug this season, Mooney has made just four appearances through seven weeks, but he put together his most-productive performance to date this past Sunday at San Francisco (3-68-0 on five targets). His hamstring injury is following him into Week 8 prep, though, so his activity level will be monitored as the week continues to see if he again will be good to go Sunday versus the Dolphins.
Oct 20, 2025
Racks up 68 yards in return
Mooney recorded three receptions on five targets for 68 yards in Sunday's 20-10 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Mooney managed to suit up for the first time since Week 4 and was third in priority for targets behind Drake London and Kyle Pitts. He was used primarily as a deep target, and he delivered a 38-yard catch just before halftime to push the Falcons into field-goal range. Mooney is likely to see inconsistent targets and serves in a boom or bust role, both of which will make him a risky fantasy contributor moving forward.
Oct 19, 2025
Back in action in Week 7
Mooney (hamstring) is active for Sunday's contest at San Francisco, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney last played Week 4, when he sustained a hamstring injury that sidelined him Week 6 following the Falcons' bye week. He then managed just a pair of limited practices (Wednesday and Thursday) during Week 7 prep before being listed as questionable. Having said that, coach Raheem Morris expressed optimism Friday regarding Mooney's upcoming availability, per D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and the wide receiver's status now has been confirmed. While WR Drake London is Atlanta's leading pass catcher by a large margin, Mooney will be available along with RB Bijan Robinson, TE Kyle Pitts and WR Casey Washington, among others, behind the team's top target.
Oct 17, 2025
On track to play?
Falcons coach Raheem Morris said Friday that he's "feeling good" about Mooney (hamstring) playing in Sunday's game at San Francisco, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney didn't practice Friday after limited participation the previous two days, but it sounds like that was part of a plan and not indicative of a setback. Fantasy managers would still be wise to consider the wideout uncertain ahead of Sunday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff, with Mooney yet to log a full practice since injuring his hamstring Week 4.
Oct 17, 2025
Questionable for Sunday
Mooney (hamstring) is questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney last played in Week 4 but returned to practice this week. The Falcons are otherwise incredibly thin at wide receiver, with Casey Washington and David Sills having taken most of the snaps alongside Drake London in Monday's win over the Bills.
Oct 16, 2025
Limited in return to practice
Mooney (hamstring) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After hurting his hamstring Week 4, Mooney came out of Atlanta's Week 5 bye with no activity at practice before being ruled out for this past Monday's game against the Bills. He then was listed as limited on Wednesday's estimated injury report before logging his first on-field work since picking up the health concern. Friday's report will reveal Mooney's odds to suit up Sunday in San Francisco, but even if he does, he holds little sway in fantasy, with just seven catches (on 16 targets) for 79 yards and no touchdowns in parts of three games this season.
Oct 15, 2025
Listed as limited
Mooney (hamstring) is listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's estimated injury report, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Falcons didn't practice Wednesday, but the listing suggests Mooney will participate later this week. He hasn't practiced since injuring his hamstring during a Week 4 win over Washington.
Oct 11, 2025
Ruled out to face Bills
Mooney (hamstring) is ruled out for Monday's game against Buffalo, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney's lack of availability is no surprise, given that he has yet to resume practicing since tweaking his hamstring and making an early exit Week 4 against the Commanders. Still, head coach Raheem Morris has labeled Mooney day-to-day, so it seems he could have a fair chance at returning to health in time to suit up Week 7 versus San Francisco. With Mooney out for Monday's matchup against Buffalo, Casey Washington looks primed to handle a large workload behind top wideout Drake London, while TE Kyle Pitts and No. 3 receiver Ray-Ray McCloud could also see a slight uptick in target share.
Oct 11, 2025
Not spotted at practice again
Mooney (hamstring) is not present for the early portion of Saturday's practice open to the media, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has yet to participate in practice since being forced out of Atlanta's win over the Commanders early due to a tweaked hamstring, despite having had the benefit of a Week 5 bye to rest up. All signs point toward Mooney being ruled out for Monday's matchup against the Bills, though head coach Raheem Morris did call him day-to-day, so there's reason for optimism that he could return Week 7 versus the 49ers. If Mooney is indeed unable to go versus Buffalo, Casey Washington will figure to step into a significant role on offense behind Drake London.
Oct 10, 2025
Not practicing Friday
Mooney (hamstring) didn't practice Friday, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney made an early exit Week 4 and still isn't ready to practice after a Week 5 bye. Falcons coach Raheem Morris said the wideout is day-to-day, but there's not much cause for optimism as pertains to Monday's matchup with Buffalo. Casey Washington played 95 percent of Atlanta's snaps when Mooney was inactive back in Week 1, catching three of six targets for 33 yards in a loss to Tampa Bay.
Oct 9, 2025
Sitting out another practice
Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said that Mooney (hamstring) won't practice Thursday, Terrin Waack of the team's official site reports. ""Right now, Mooney is still day-to-day. We'll see what that is," Morris said. "We'll get a good feel for what it looks like moving forward."
ANALYSIS
Mooney made an early exit from the Falcons' 34-27 win over the Commanders in Week 4 after tweaking his hamstring, but he benefited from a well-timed Week 5 bye. Though Atlanta initially expressed hope that Mooney wouldn't have to miss further action because of the hamstring injury, his absence from the team's first Week 6 practice casts some doubt on his availability. He'll have two more chances to log some practice activity before the Falcons host the Bills on Monday.
Sep 29, 2025
Anticipated back Week 6
The Falcons expect Mooney (hamstring) to get healthy over the team's Week 5 bye and retake the field Week 6 versus the Bills on Monday, Oct. 13, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was forced out of Sunday's 34-27 win over the Commanders early in the third quarter due to a hamstring injury, but he's not expected to miss any further games due to the issue. He secured his only target for 16 yards before exiting Sunday's contest. Mooney also missed Week 1 due to a shoulder injury, and across his three appearances thus far this season he's tallied just seven catches for 79 yards on 16 targets.
Sep 28, 2025
Ruled out of Week 4 action
Mooney (hamstring) won't return to Sunday's contest against the Commanders, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
At the time he departed early in the third quarter, Mooney had just one catch (on one target) for 16 yards. Behind No. 1 WR Drake London, Ray-Ray McCloud, Casey Washington, David Sills and Jamal Agnew are the Falcons' options at the position also active Week 4.
Sep 28, 2025
Hurts hamstring in Week 4
Mooney injured his hamstring during Sunday's game versus the Commanders, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit just after halftime, Mooney had hauled in his only target for 16 yards. For as long as Mooney is sidelined, Ray-Ray McCloud, Casey Washington, David Sills and Jamal Agnew will be the healthy and available wide receivers for the Falcons that aren't named Drake London.
Sep 21, 2025
Productive showing in Week 3 loss
Mooney secured four of 11 targets for 44 yards in the Falcons' 30-0 loss to the Panthers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
While it wasn't a very efficient performance, Mooney did draw a team-high number of targets and finished tied for second in receptions while also slotting in as the runner-up in receiving yards. Mooney has multiple receptions in each of his first two games after missing Week 1 due to a shoulder injury, and he'll next face off with the Commanders in a Week 4 home matchup.
Sep 18, 2025
Practices in full
Mooney (shoulder) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was limited in practice Wednesday after having made his season debut Week 2 versus the Vikings, in which he handled 86 percent of offensive snaps and secured two of four targets for 20 yards. To see Mooney now practicing in full offers confirmation that he'll be available Sunday on the road against Carolina. Mooney will look to get more involved versus the Panthers, though he may have difficulty delivering fantasy value in what's been a run-first Atlanta offense through the first two games of the season.
Sep 17, 2025
Remains limited by shoulder issue
Mooney (shoulder) practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of his season debut in this past Sunday's win at Minnesota, Mooney continues to deal with the shoulder issue that sidelined him Week 1 against the Buccaneers. He still handled an 86 percent snap share Week 2 en route to two catches (on four targets) for 20 yards. Mooney's activity level Thursday and Friday ultimately will forecast whether or not he enters the weekend with a designation for Sunday's game in Carolina.
Sep 15, 2025
Modest production in season debut
Mooney caught two of four targets for 20 yards during Sunday's 22-6 win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
After missing Week 1 due to a shoulder injury, Mooney didn't have an injury designation heading into Sunday Night Football. He played 57 of 66 offensive snaps during his season debut, which led Atlanta's WRs - Drake London finished with 56. Despite being on the field often, Mooney failed to haul in either of his targets in the first half, and both of his receptions came within three plays during the Falcons' first drive of the second half. The run game was the clear emphasis for Atlanta during Sunday's defensive-dominated game, as Falcons QB Michael Penix attempted only 21 passes. Mooney is the clear No. 2 wideout behind London and will look to get more involved against the Panthers in Week 3. However, it'll be difficult for any pass catchers to deliver consistent production if the Falcons are pushing 40 rushing attempts consistently.
Sep 12, 2025
Cleared for Week 2 return
Mooney (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Minnesota, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Neither does Drake London, who hurt his shoulder during the season opener that Mooney missed. Mooney returns for an intersting matchup, facing a Vikings defense that gave up the most PPR points to wide receivers in 2024 (and seventh most in 2023) despite generally playing well under highly regarded coordinator Brian Flores. Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson often had London and Mooney topping 90 percent snap shares last season, but there is some chance of a limited workload after Mooney's lengthy absence (he was injured seven weeks ago on the first day of training camp).
Sep 11, 2025
Stays limited at practice
Mooney (shoulder) was limited in practice Thursday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney now has strung together three straight capped sessions going back to Week 1 prep as he closes in on his recovery from the shoulder issue that has bothered him since late July. Both he and No. 1 WR Drake London (shoulder) have been limited so far this week, so Friday's practice will be key for them to avoid designations in advance of Sunday's game in Minnesota.
Sep 10, 2025
Remains limited in practice
Mooney (shoulder) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney is kicking off Week 2 prep where he left off last week, with a cap on his reps. He wasn't able to suit up this past Sunday against the Buccaneers due to the shoulder injury that has plagued him since the early days of training camp. Coach Raheem Morris said Wednesday that the Falcons will "get a look and see toward the end of the week what he's got going on." Friday's practice report thus will be key for his odds to suit up Sunday in Minnesota.
Sep 10, 2025
Practicing Wednesday
Falcons coach Raheem Morris said Wednesday that Mooney (shoulder) is slated to practice, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney sat out Week 1 after logging a trio of limited practices leading up to Atlanta's narrow 23-20 season-opening loss to the Buccaneers. He seems likely to be limited again Wednesday, with his Week 2 status potentially resting on an ability to upgrade to 'full' practice reps Thursday or Friday. With Drake London (shoulder) having been forced out early Week 1 and now up-in-the-air for Sunday night's road game against the Vikings, Mooney's status will be increasingly pivotal to Michael Penix and Atlanta's aerial attack.
Sep 7, 2025
Sitting out season opener
Mooney is inactive for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Josh Kendall of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After Mooney turned in a trio of limited practices this week, head coach Raheem Morris gauged the wideout as a game-time decision leading up to Sunday's contest. Ultimately, the Falcons decided it was for the best to hold Mooney out for the season opener, after he injured his shoulder during the first practice of training camp and proceeded to miss the team's entire preseason slate. With Mooney sidelined, the Falcons will likely turn to KhaDarel Hodge and Casey Washington to handle more snaps alongside No. 1 wideout Drake London and slot man Ray-Ray McCloud.
Sep 5, 2025
Game-time decision expected
Mooney (shoulder) is questionable for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay, with Falcons coach Raheem Morris expecting the wideout to be a game-time decision, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
A 1 p.m. ET kickoff is good news for Mooney's fantasy managers, allowing for replacements from 14 different NFL games if the wideout is listed as inactive Sunday morning. The Falcons would have a tougher time replacing him, likely looking to KhaDarel Hodge and/or Casey Washington alongside No. 1 receiver Drake London and slot man Ray-Ray McCloud. It's a high-volume role, at least in terms of playing time, with Mooney taking 92.3 percent of available snaps in his 16 games last season.
Sep 4, 2025
Iffy for season opener
Mooney (shoulder) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
After having his reps capped for the second practice in a row to kick off Week 1 prep, Mooney told Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com that he would likely be a "game-time decision" for Sunday's tilt with the Buccaneers. Unless he can upgrade to full participation in Friday's session, Mooney appears set to take a questionable tag into the weekend, and official word on his status may not arrive until the Falcons release their inactive list 90 minutes prior to the 1 p.m. ET kickoff. If Atlanta elects to hold Mooney out for the season opener, more reps at receiver would be available for the likes of Ray-Ray McCloud and KhaDarel Hodge.
Sep 3, 2025
Day-to-day, limited in practice
Mooney (shoulder) was limited in practice Wednesday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Raheem Morris said Wednesday that Mooney is still "day-to-day," mentioning the option to "wait up until the last minute" to make an official decision on his status for Week 1, per Josh Kendall of The Athletic. Mooney will receive an official injury designation on Friday's practice report, but it could be that a final word on his status may not arrive until roughly 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 1:00 kickoff against Tampa Bay. He's recovering from a shoulder injury sustained early in training camp. Dave Holcomb of SI reports that Mooney agreed Wednesday to restructure his contract with Atlanta, freeing up roughly an additional $6 million in cap space for the team.
Aug 28, 2025
Returns to practice
Mooney (shoulder) returned to practice Thursday, Terrin Waack of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
It's the second promising sign this week, after Mooney avoided an injury list on cutdown day, which suggests the Falcons expect him to play at some point in September. The return to practice Thursday seemingly even gives Mooney a shot to play Week 1 against Tampa Bay, with 10 days to ramp up after missing practice for a little over a month. The Falcons haven't done anything to upgrade their WR room in the meantime -- perhaps another hint at confidence in Mooney's September availability
Aug 26, 2025
Avoids IR on cutdown day
Mooney (shoulder) wasn't placed on injured reserve Tuesday, remaining on Atlanta's active roster, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
He still hasn't practiced since injuring his shoulder on the first day of training camp, but Mooney apparently has a chance to play this September, having avoided any of the injury lists hat rule players out for the first four games of the season. It's unclear at his point if he has a realistic chance to play Week 1 against Tampa Bay.
Aug 12, 2025
Remains week-to-week
Falcons coach Raheem Morris said Tuesday that he doesn't know when Mooney (shoulder) will return but is confident it will be this year, Josh Kendall of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
It's probably not the best sign that Morris is even hinting at the possibility of a long-term absence, although he did say Mooney is still being evaluated on "a week-to-week basis." The wideout left practice early July 24 after trying to make a diving catch, with subsequent reports suggesting he'd miss multiple weeks and was uncertain for Week 1 against Tampa Bay. If nothing else, this latest update confirms that the Falcons aren't sure about Mooney's availability for the start of the regular season. Wideout depth was already a weak point for the team, with No. 3 receiver Ray-Ray McCloud coming off a 2024 campaign in which he was one of the least productive starters in the league on a per-route basis (1.29 yards per route, with one TD on 87 targets). The Falcons didn't draft any wide receivers this spring, nor did they sign any likely starters in free agency, instead settling for UDFAs like Nick Nash and journeymen like DJ Chark to round out the depth chart.
Jul 29, 2025
Status for Week 1 uncertain
Speaking Tuesday, coach Raheem Morris was non-committal on whether or not Mooney (shoulder) will be ready for the Falcons' Week 1 matchup with the Bucs, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney suffered a shoulder injury in practice last Thursday and is expected to be sidelined for a "few weeks," Raimondi reported last week. The nature of Mooney's injury still isn't clear, but there's at least some concern that he won't be ready for the start of the regular season. KhaDarel Hodge is next up on the depth chart behind Drake London and slot man Ray-Ray McCloud should Mooney not be cleared in time to face Tampa Bay.
Jul 25, 2025
Hurts shoulder, out multiple weeks
Mooney is dealing with a shoulder injury and will be out "a few weeks," Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney had to leave the field with a trainer Thursday after hurting his shoulder while trying to make a diving catch during practice. The injury certainly puts the veteran wideout's status in doubt for the Falcons' first preseason game, which will take place Aug. 8 versus Detroit, and could also impact his availability for the remainder of the preseason slate and even potentially into Week 1 of the campaign. Atlanta signed veteran receiver DJ Chark on Friday to add depth to its wideout corps in the wake of Mooney's injury.
Jul 24, 2025
Leaves practice early
Mooney left Thursday's practice with a trainer after attempting a diving catch, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The possible injury happened toward the end of practice, without any update from the team afterward. Mooney was healthy for spring practices and then the start of training camp, after a shoulder injury cost him Week 18 of last season (his only absence of the year). His finished his first season in Atlanta with career highs for TDs (five), yards per catch (15.5) and yards per target (9.4), along with his second-highest totals for targets (106), catches (64) and receiving yards (992). The Falcons have shaky WR depth behind Mooney and Drake London, with Ray-Ray McCloud and KhaDarel Hodge returning as the probable Nos. 3 and 4 receivers.
May 27, 2025
Full go at team OTAs
Mooney (shoulder) was an active participant at Day 1 of the Falcons' OTAs on Tuesday, Terrin Waack of Atlanta's official team website reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney is coming off of a 2024 campaign with Atlanta in which he caught 64 of 106 targets for 992 yards and five touchdowns over 16 contests. The wide receiver missed the team's regular-season finale versus the Panthers with a shoulder injury, but he now appears to be fully healthy ahead of 2025. Mooney will likely operate as the Falcons' No. 2 option at wide receiver alongside Drake London this season as Michael Penix officially takes the reigns at quarterback.
Jan 5, 2025
Inactive for Week 18
Mooney (shoulder) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney landed on the injury report Thursday as a limited participant due to a shoulder injury and sat out Friday's session. He was given a questionable tag, and head coach Raheem Morris said the wideout would be a game-time decision. However, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Saturday night that Mooney was a longshot to play Sunday, so this update comes as no surprise. Ray-Ray McCloud and KhaDarel Hodge are candidates for increased snaps behind Drake London, while Kyle Pitts could also see a few more targets after catching rookie QB Michael Penix's first career TD pass against the Commanders to send last week's game into OT.
Jan 4, 2025
Long shot to play Sunday
Mooney (shoulder) is considered a long shot to play Sunday against the Panthers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It's an uphill battle for Mooney to play, Rapoport added, though Mooney has yet to be ruled out for the regular-season finale. Mooney was added to the Falcons' injury report Thursday and was eventually listed as questionable. If Mooney is unable to play, KhaDarel Hodge would be in line for elevated snaps alongside Drake London and Ray-Ray McCloud at wideout.
Jan 3, 2025
Questionable for key Week 18 game
Mooney (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney popped up on the injury report Thursday due to a shoulder injury, and the injury will cast doubt on the wide receiver's ability to suit up for the regular-season finale. Atlanta needs a win and a Tampa Bay loss against the Saints to win the NFC South and sneak into the playoffs, so Mooney will be motivated to suit up in his usual starting role on the outside if possible. Coach Raheem Morris said Friday that Mooney -- who needs eight receiving yards to reach 1,000 for the second time in his career -- will be a game-time decision.
Jan 2, 2025
Dealing with shoulder issue
Mooney practiced on a limited basis Thursday due to a shoulder injury, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Both Mooney and Drake London (knee, LP) were added to Atlanta's injury report Thursday, leaving a cloud over the state of the receiving corps in the middle of Week 18 prep. Friday's report will provide a sense of both player's availability ahead of Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Dec 30, 2024
Struggles on five targets
Mooney finished with two receptions on five targets for 37 yards in Sunday's 30-24 overtime loss to the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Mooney failed to replicate last week's healthy receiving line in Sunday's narrow loss to Washington. The veteran wideout has alternated strong and poor fantasy scores in the five games since returning from Atlanta's Week 12 bye. Mooney did notch his second 1,000-yard season in Sunday's loss, and he should serve a high-floor option in fantasy for Week 18 against the Panthers next Sunday.
Dec 22, 2024
Leading receiver with rookie at QB
Mooney caught five of six targets for 82 yards in Sunday's 34-7 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
While the Falcons' passing game took a back seat to Bijan Robinson and the team's defense in Michael Penix's first NFL start, Mooney still posted respectable numbers and led Atlanta in receiving yards. he also tied with Drake London (hamstring) for the lead in receptions, although the latter did make a late exit from the game. It was a reassuring rebound from Mooney after he failed to catch a pass at all in Week 15, Kirk Cousins' last start, and the veteran wideout sits only 45 yards short of reaching 1,000 on the season for the second time in his career. He will try to build more chemistry with his new QB in Week 17 against the Commanders.
Dec 18, 2024
No catches in Week 15
Mooney failed to secure his lone target in Monday's 15-9 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was a complete nonfactor in Week 15 despite playing 91 percent of Atlanta's offensive snaps against the Raiders. Monday's game marked the first time in which the veteran wideout failed to record a single reception in a contest this season. The Falcons' passing attack continues to struggle with Kirk Cousins under center, as he completed just 11 of 17 passes in the game. Mooney will look to bounce back in Week 16 against the vulnerable Giants secondary, though he'll be on the receiving end of passes from rookie signal caller Michael Penix, as the Falcons announced Tuesday that Penix will be the team's starting quarterback moving forward.
Dec 13, 2024
Logs full practice
Mooney (foot) was a full practice participant Friday, Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The quick upgrade from limited participation to full confirms Mooney will be ready for Monday's game at Las Vegas. He was one of the few Falcons to thrive Week 14, catching six of seven targets for 142 yards in a 42-21 loss at Minnesota.
Dec 12, 2024
Dealing with foot injury
Mooney was limited at Thursday's practice due to a foot injury, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has been dealing with an Achilles injury since Week 11 prep, but a new health concern has been swapped in at the start of Week 15 prep. He's suited up for all three games in the meantime, hauling in 11 of 17 targets for 189 yards and no touchdowns. Mooney's status at practice Friday and Saturday likely will be telling for his availability for Monday's game at Las Vegas.
Dec 8, 2024
Blows past century mark in loss
Mooney brought in six of seven targets for 142 yards in the Falcons' 42-21 loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney led the Falcons in receiving yards on the afternoon with a figure that also qualified as a career high. The speedster was a menace to the Vikings' defense throughout the afternoon, recording catches of 28, 24 and 49 yards in the first half alone. Mooney also had 18- and 14-yard grabs in the second half, and his prolific performance was a sorely needed one after the veteran wideout had posted just a 5-47 line over the previous two games. Mooney heads into a Week 15 road battle against the Raiders on Monday night, Dec. 16 just 117 receiving yards shy of his second career 1,000-yard campaign.
Dec 1, 2024
Limited to three catches in loss
Mooney secured three of six targets for 20 yards in the Falcons' 17-13 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was a distant fourth in the pass-catching pecking order Sunday, posting his lowest receiving yardage total since his Week 1 team debut against the Steelers. The veteran speedster was also the target on Kirk Cousins' late third-quarter pick-six, and Mooney has now been under 30 receiving yards in consecutive games for the first time this season. Mooney will look to bounce back against a Vikings secondary that's proved vulnerable to the pass in a Week 14 road matchup.
Nov 28, 2024
Gets back to full Thursday
Mooney (Achilles) was listed as a full participant on Thursday's injury report, Daniel Flick of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As the Falcons emerged from their Week 12 bye, Mooney again is dealing with an Achilles injury, but after logging a limited practice Wednesday, he experienced an upgrade one day later, setting him up to continue being a regular in the passing game. He has multiple catches in 10 consecutive contests, during which he's accrued a 47-696-5 line on 78 targets.
Nov 27, 2024
Logs limited practice Wednesday
Mooney (hamstring) practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to the Falcons' last game Sunday, Nov. 17 at Denver, Mooney was added to the practice report midweek due to an Achilles injury but ultimately ended it without a designation. He then made an early exit from that contest due to a hamstring issue, but following the team's Week 12 bye, he again is dealing with the Achilles concern. Coach Raheem Morris told Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com on Wednesday that Mooney is "looking good and feeling good," and that he likes Mooney's chances to play Week 13. In the end, though, how Mooney is listed Thursday and Friday likely will determine whether or not he enters the weekend with a designation for Sunday's contest against the Chargers.
Nov 18, 2024
Injury not viewed as serious
The hamstring injury that forced Mooney out of Sunday's 38-6 loss to the Broncos isn't viewed as serious, a source tells Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Atlanta could send Mooney in for an MRI just to ensure he's not dealing with anything more than a mild strain of his hamstring, but the wideout may not have to miss any time because of the injury. Mooney will benefit from a well-timed Week 12 bye, giving him added time to heal before the Falcons return to action Dec. 1 versus the Chargers. Mooney finished the loss to Denver with two catches for 27 yards on four targets while playing a season-low 58 percent of the Falcons' offensive snaps due to the injury.
Nov 17, 2024
Injures hamstring Sunday
Mooney suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's game at Denver, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney made a midweek appearance on the Falcons' Week 11 practice report with an Achilles issue but ultimately was cleared Friday. He now is dealing with a separate health concern, and if he's unable to return, he'll finish with two catches (on four targets) for 27 yards.
Nov 15, 2024
Good to go
Mooney (Achilles) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Denver.
ANALYSIS
Added to the injury report Thursday as a limited participant, Mooney apparently showed enough Friday to remove any doubt about his Week 11 availability. His production has been surprisingly close to that of fellow Falcons wideout Drake London, who may have to deal with shadow coverage from Broncos CB Patrick Surtain on Sunday.
Nov 14, 2024
Dealing with Achilles injury
Mooney was limited at Thursday's practice due to an Achilles injury, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has been a revelation behind Atlanta's No. 1 WR Drake London this season. While he's surpassed 100 receiving yards just one time in 10 outings, Mooney has accrued a 46-684-5 line on 77 targets. Now with a health concern in tow, his status will be one to monitor as the week goes on to see if he may be in danger of sitting out Sunday at Denver.
Nov 10, 2024
Hauls in five passes
Mooney caught five of 10 targets for 96 yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
It's the second time this season Mooney has seen double-digit targets, and the third straight game in which he's topped 80 receiving yards. The former Bear is on track for his second career 1,000-yard campaign, with the last coming back in 2021. Mooney will look to stay productive in Week 11 on the road against the Broncos.
Nov 3, 2024
Hauls in TD in win
Mooney caught five of nine targets for 88 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-21 win over the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Drake London (hip) left the game after scoring a first-quarter TD, but Mooney stepped ably into the role of top target for Kirk Cousins, leading the Falcons in receiving yards on the day and capping his performance with a 36-yard score in the second quarter. Mooney has set a new career high with five touchdowns on the season, a total he could add to in Week 10 against a reeling Saints defense.
Oct 27, 2024
Paces air attack in win
Mooney brought in five of seven targets for 92 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons' 31-26 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney led the Falcons in receiving yards and targets on the afternoon while recording a touchdown for the fourth time this season on a perfectly timed 30-yard pass from Kirk Cousins late in the second quarter. Mooney has remained healthy and turned into a steady contributor in coordinator Zac Robinson's offense, a welcome change from his previous two seasons with the Bears following an encouraging start to his career. Mooney will next take aim at the Cowboys in a Week 9 home matchup.
Oct 22, 2024
Garners eight targets in loss
Mooney secured five of eight targets for 46 yards during Sunday's 34-14 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Mooney saw at least eight targets for the third time this season, but his 9.2 yards per reception in Week 7 was his second-lowest mark of the campaign. With Kirk Cousins at the helm, Atlanta's passing attack has been fruitful, and Mooney has benefitted. However, Mooney remains the WR2 behind Drake London, with RB Bijan Robinson and TE Kyle Pitts also seeing their fair share of work in the passing attack.
Oct 13, 2024
Quiet game as RBs shine
Mooney hauled in three of five targets for 38 yards in Sunday's 38-20 win over Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was cleared from the minor knee injury that forced him to be a limited participant in Wednesday and Thursday's practices. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, the budding wideout didn't sniff last week's impressive 9-105-2 receiving line after Atlanta's rushing attack shouldered the offensive load against Carolina on Sunday. A healthy Mooney remains a viable fantasy option when the Falcons host the Seahawks next Sunday.
Oct 11, 2024
Cleared for Week 6
Mooney (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game in Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Mooney finished the week as a full practice participant after being limited Wednesday and Thursday. He's coming off the best fantasy performance of his career -- 31.5 PPR points in a 36-30 win over Tampa Bay -- and is averaging 4.8 catches for a career-best 66.0 yards per game on 8.0 targets. Mooney needs just one more TD to match his personal best of four in a season, previously attained his first two years in the league (2020 and 2021).
Oct 10, 2024
Another limited session
Mooney (knee) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has opened this week with consecutive capped sessions due to a knee injury, giving him just one more chance to get back to full participation before the Falcons potentially tag him with a designation ahead of Sunday's game at Carolina. Considering he's coming off a 9-105-2 performance on 16 targets last Thursday against the Buccaneers, he's regained some sway in the fantasy realm while working with QB Kirk Cousins.
Oct 9, 2024
Tending to knee issue
Mooney was limited at Wednesday's practice due to a knee injury, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney is coming off a season-best performance against the Buccaneers in Week 5 in which he tallied nine catches (on 16 targets) for 105 yards and two touchdowns. He clearly is on the same page with quarterback Kirk Cousins, as the pair already have connected for eight receptions of 20-plus yards through five games. Now that Mooney has made an appearance on the Falcons' first Week 6 practice report, his status will be one to watch as the weekend approaches to ensure he isn't in danger of missing Sunday's contest at Carolina.
Oct 4, 2024
Standout night in OT victory
Mooney brought in nine of 16 targets for 105 yards and two touchdowns in the Falcons' 36-30 overtime win over the Buccaneers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Mooney led the Falcons in receiving touchdowns and targets on the night while checking in second in catches and receiving yards to Drake London. The speedster found the end zone from 24 and 12 yards out in the second and fourth quarters, respectively, his second and third touchdowns of the season and Atlanta tenure. However, as good as Mooney's night was, it could have been marred by a drop of a very catchable third-down pass just past the midway point of the fourth quarter that was followed by a blocked Younghoe Koo field-goal attempt. Ultimately, the Falcons' victory and Mooney's 17-yard grab on his team's game-tying drive late in the fourth quarter helped ensure the gaffe would be insignificant, and the fifth-year pro appears to have burgeoning chemistry with Kirk Cousins heading into a Week 6 road battle against the Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 13.
Sep 30, 2024
Continues to be involved
Mooney caught three of six targets for 56 yards during Sunday's 26-24 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
After a quiet Week 1, Mooney has been a critical part of the Falcons' passing attack, racking up 14 receptions on 21 targets over the last three weeks. The veteran wideout has averaged 15.0 yards per catch thus far, which would be a career-high mark. Former top-ten picks Bijan Robinson, Drake London and Kyle Pitts should theoretically lead Atlanta's offense every week, but that hasn't always been the case. Pitts didn't record a reception on three targets, while Robinson had only one more touch than backup RB Tyler Allgeier on Sunday. It appears like Kirk Cousins has developed a nice rapport with Mooney, and that should continue moving forward, especially if the Falcons find themselves behind in games and resort to a pass-happy script. Cousins threw a season-high 35 passes versus New Orleans, averaging 29.8 attempts per game.
Sep 23, 2024
Stays hot with eight receptions
Mooney hauled in all eight of his targets for 66 yards in Sunday's 22-17 loss to Kansas CIty.
ANALYSIS
Mooney kept his momentum rolling following last week's 3-88-1 receiving line with a flawless receiving performance in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. The newly-signed Falcon brought his season numbers up to 12-169-1 through three weeks, making him a definite deep-league option while likely enticing managers in shallower formats currently viewing Mooney on the waiver wire. Another strong fantasy game from the former Chicago wideout against the Saints on Sunday would likely generate even more fantasy buzz as we inch towards the quarter-point of the season.
Sep 16, 2024
Shows off big-play flair Monday
Mooney brought in three of seven targets for 88 yards and a touchdown in the Falcons' 22-21 win over the Eagles on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
Mooney shared the team lead in targets with Drake London while setting the pace in receiving yards. The speedster got there with three chunk plays through the air, beginning with a 41-yard touchdown grab late in the third quarter. Mooney tacked on catches of 21 and 26 yards on back-to-back plays in Atlanta's game-winning fourth-quarter drive, helping set up an eventual decisive touchdown reception by Drake London. Mooney appears to have plenty of room to grow within Zac Robinson's scheme and is clearly developing some chemistry with Kirk Cousins, affording the fifth-year pro plenty of momentum heading into a Week 3 home showdown against the Chiefs on Sunday night.
Sep 9, 2024
Quiet in Falcons debut
Mooney caught one of three targets for 15 yards during Sunday's 18-10 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Mooney operated as the No. 2 wideout, playing 53 of 56 offensive snaps. However, Mooney and Drake London (two receptions for 15 yards) were kept quiet, as Ray-Ray McCloud led Atlanta's wideouts in receiving. Mooney's snap share is promising, but the Falcons' offense will need to find their rhythm for Mooney to generate fantasy-relevant numbers. This was Kirk Cousins' first game since his Achilles injury, as the veteran surprisingly didn't see any action during the preseason. Cousins' comfortability in OC Zac Robinson's scheme will likely be the key factor in Mooney's fantasy value this season.
May 2, 2024
Locked in for key role
The Falcons figure to be heavily reliant on Mooney and Drake London at wide receiver, Josh Kendall of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Falcons have sent multiple signals that they expect Mooney to bounce back from a quiet 2023 in Chicago, first giving him $26 million guaranteed on a three-year, $39 million contract and now waiting until the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft before taking a wide receiver (Casey Washington). There's no serious competition for the No. 2 WR job, though it is possible Mooney ends up a distant fourth behind London, RB Bijan Robinson and TE Kyle Pitts in terms of prioritization in Atlanta' offense. Still, it's not a bad spot to be in, especially for a thin, fast receiver who projects better as a deep threat than as a high-volume guy.
Mar 12, 2024
Joining Kirk Cousins in Atlanta
Mooney and the Falcons have reached agreement on a three-year contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The deal reportedly is for $39 million, including $26 million in guarantees. It's a good landing spot for Mooney's fantasy value, with the Falcons also set to sign QB Kirk Cousins and lacking depth at WR behind No. 1 Drake London. The former Bear came into the NFL as a fifth-round pick and had 1,686 receiving yards over his first two seasons, but a severe ankle injury cut his third year short and he then dropped off to only 414 yards in 15 games in 2023. If nothing else, Mooney's 4.38 speed should help keep defensive backs honest and leave more space underneath for London, TE Kyle Pitts and RB Bijan Robinson.
Jan 5, 2024
Not playing in finale
Mooney (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Mooney will sit out the season finale after he has been unable to resume practicing in any capacity since experiencing concussion symptoms following the Bears' Week 16 win over the Cardinals. Before missing the Bears' final two games of the 2023 campaign, Mooney was active for each of the first 15 contests and recorded a 31-414-1 receiving line on 61 targets. The 26-year-old is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason, and while the Bears could look to retain him, Mooney could be pushed down a spot or two on the depth chart after he was one of the NFL's least-productive No. 2 receivers when healthy in 2023.
Jan 4, 2024
Still not practicing
Mooney (concussion) didn't practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney emerged from a Week 16 win against the Cardinals with a concussion, which hasn't allowed him to practice in the meantime. He's already missed one game as a result of the injury, and coach Matt Eberflus confirmed Wednesday that Mooney still was in the protocol, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com. With only one more chance to mix into drills this week, Mooney may be in danger of sitting out Sunday's contest at Green Bay.
Jan 3, 2024
Remains in concussion protocol
Cpach Matt Eberflus said Wednesday that Mooney remains in the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney sat out Chicago's Week 17 win over the Falcons due to a concussion, and he remains in concussion protocol as the Bears prepare to face the Packers in their season finale. With Chicago eliminated from playoff contention and Mooney set to become an unrestricted free agent after the season, the team has little incentive to rush the wide receiver's return.
Dec 29, 2023
Won't play Week 17
Mooney (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Falcons, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney entered concussion protocol earlier in the week and failed to gain clearance before Sunday's game. If he clears concussion protocol next week, Mooney could be available for Chicago's season finale against the Packers. Otherwise, he'll finish his fourth NFL season with 31 catches for 414 yards and one touchdown on 61 targets.
Dec 28, 2023
Sits out another practice
Mooney (concussion) didn't participate in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of Mooney self-reporting concussion symptoms Monday, he has yet to mix into any drills during Week 17 prep. He has Friday's practice available to him to show any sign of progress through the protocol for head injuries, but another absence likely would imply upcoming inactive status Sunday against the Falcons. If Mooney is out this weekend, Tyler Scott, Equanimeous St. Brown (pectoral), Velus Jones and Trent Taylor would be the candidates for WR reps alongside the Bears' top option DJ Moore.
Dec 27, 2023
No practice reps Wednesday
Mooney (concussion) officially didn't practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Earlier Wednesday, coach Matt Eberflus revealed that Mooney self-reported concussion symptoms Monday, which has forced the wide receiver into the protocol for head injuries, per Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic. If Mooney doesn't log at least a limited session by Friday, he'd likely be in danger of missing his first game of the season, a scenario that could give Equanimeous St. Brown (pectoral), Tyler Scott and Velus Jones more run behind the Bears' top wide receiver DJ Moore.
Dec 27, 2023
In concussion protocol
Coach Matt Eberflus said Wednesday that Mooney is in the concussion protocol, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney self-reported concussion symptoms Monday, and has been in the NFL's protocol since. It sounds like Mooney won't practice Wednesday as a result, and he could potentially be in danger of missing Sunday's matchup against the Falcons. With Cole Kmet (knee) also not practicing Wednesday, Chicago's receiving corps is suddenly looking dangerously thin behind DJ Moore.
Dec 25, 2023
Another poor perfromance
Mooney caught two passes for five yards in the Bears' 27-16 win over the Cardinals on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was third on the team with four targets, but for the third time in four games, he was held to fewer than 15 yards. On the season, he hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 1, and Mooney has surpassed 53 yards once all season. His recent struggles make the veteran receiver tough to trust in fantasy lineups.
Dec 21, 2023
Returns Thursday as full participant
Mooney (illness) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Mooney sat out Wednesday's session while was under the weather, but his ability to take every rep a day later puts him on track to suit up this Sunday against the Cardinals. Though he appears to be locked into a near-every-down role as the Bears' No. 2 wideout behind DJ Moore, Mooney hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 1 and has cleared 50 receiving yards just once in his last 10 outings.
Dec 20, 2023
Too sick to practice
Mooney missed Wednesday's practice due to an illness.
ANALYSIS
The timing early in the week should allow Mooney to recover before Sunday's game against the Cardinals. A return to practice Thursday or Friday would confirm that he's on track to play.
Dec 17, 2023
Drops potential game-winning pass
Mooney caught two passes for 14 yards in the Bears' 20-17 loss to the Browns on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney tied DJ Moore for the team lead with eight targets. Unfortunately, on the last play of the game, a Hail Mary pass was deflected into Mooney's arms, but he was unable to secure the ball, costing the Bears a victory. Although Mooney has 15 targets over his last two games, he has only caught four of those passes. The increased opportunity gives him potential to surprise with a productive game, but the veteran has surpassed 53 yards once all season while not finding the end zone since Week 1. His lack of reliability makes him difficult to trust in fantasy lineups.
Dec 10, 2023
Targeted seven times in win
Mooney caught two passes for 44 yards in the Bears' 28-13 win over the Lions on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney posted over 24 yards for the first time in four games. He also has failed to find the end zone since Week 1. Fantasy managers who use Mooney in lineups need to hope he hauls in a long pass, or his upside is limited.
Nov 28, 2023
Another modest performance
Mooney caught two passes for six yards in the Bears' 12-10 win over the Vikings on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was reasonably productive when Tyson Bagent was the starting quarterback. In the last two games with Justin Fields under center, Mooney has three catches for 30 yards on four targets. His low floor and limited upside makes him difficult to count on each week.
Nov 19, 2023
Targeted once in defeat
Mooney caught a 24-yard pass in the Bears' 31-26 loss to the Lions on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney wasn't a major part of the Chicago game plan in Justin Fields return to the lineup. Mooney has two or fewer receptions in four of his last six games, making him a low-upside fantasy option.
Nov 10, 2023
Held to two catches Thursday
Mooney brought in two of four targets for 14 yards in the Bears' 16-13 win over the Panthers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was coming off a season-best 5-82 line on six targets in Week 9 against the Saints, but his production took a notable dive in the low-scoring win. The speedster was a clear complementary option behind top targets DJ Moore and Cole Kmet, and even rookie back Roschon Johnson saw more targets than Mooney (six). The fourth-year pro could potentially see a boost in his outlook if Justin Fields (thumb) is able to return for a Week 11 road battle against the Lions on Nov. 19.
Nov 5, 2023
Season-best effort in loss
Mooney brought in five of six targets for 82 yards in the Bears' 24-17 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney got off to a fast start with a 13-yard reception on the Bears' first play from scrimmage and his game-high 38-yard grab on the last play of the opening period. The fourth-year speedster went on to set the pace in receiving yards for Chicago on the afternoon with a figure that also qualified as a season high. Mooney has a 12-203 line over his last four games after a four-game stretch where he was blanked on three occasions, and he could have Justin Fields (thumb) back as his quarterback in a Week 10 home matchup against the Panthers on Thursday night.
Oct 30, 2023
Catches long pass
Mooney caught one pass for 41 yards in the Bears' 30-13 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney hauled in a deep pass in the first quarter but was unable to secure any of the remaining three targets he received. He has posted between 32 and 53 yards in five games but was shut out in the other three contests. For now, he's a low-floor, low-upside fantasy option.
Oct 22, 2023
Four grabs in victory
Mooney caught four passes for 32 yards in the Bears' 30-12 win over the Raiders on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was second among Chicago's wide receivers with four targets in a game the team controlled throughout. On the season, he has yet to surpass 53 yards in a game while finding the end zone once. Unless Mooney begins to see an uptick in targets, he'll likely continue to be a low-upside fantasy option.
Oct 15, 2023
Two catches in Week 6 loss
Mooney secured two of three targets for 48 yards in the Bears' 19-13 loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
A game after being shut out on four targets against the Commanders, Mooney bounced back to an extent with the help of a game-long 39-yard grab. The speedy fourth-year pro could be a trade candidate with the Oct. 31 deadline fast approaching, but for the time being, he'll look to build on Sunday's numbers while working with either Justin Fields (hand) or Tyson Bagent in a Week 7 home matchup against the Raiders.
Oct 6, 2023
Shut out in big win
Mooney failed to bring in any of his four targets in the Bears' 40-20 win over the Commanders on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Just four days after posting a serviceable 4-51 line against the Broncos, Mooney was surprisingly blanked on the stat sheet for the third time this season. The speedster's increasingly frequent disappearing acts are perplexing, especially considering he's working with a quarterback in Justin Fields with which he already has plenty of familiarity. Fellow wideout DJ Moore's increasingly critical role in the air attack is naturally part of the reason for Mooney's downturn early this season, but the third-year pro could have a good chance to bounce back against a vulnerable Vikings secondary in a Week 6 home matchup on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Oct 1, 2023
Bounces back in Week 4
Mooney caught all four of his targets for 51 yards in the Bears' 31-28 loss to the Broncos on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
With Chase Claypool a healthy scratch. Mooney served as the clear No. 2 wide receiver behind DJ Moore. Unfortunately, Mooney's role led to him seeing just four of Justin Fields' 35 pass attempts. On the season, Mooney has posted at least 51 yards in two of three games, but his upside may be limited if the Bears offense can't maintain the production they showed against Denver.
Sep 24, 2023
Shut out in loss
Mooney failed to catch his lone target in the Bears' 41-10 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
After leaving last week's game with a bruised knee, Mooney was seventh on the team with one target. Unless his role increases and the Bears' passing attack improves, Mooney may not have the upside he showed earlier in his career.
Sep 22, 2023
Cleared to face Chiefs
Mooney (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game in Kansas City, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Matt Eberflus suggested earlier in the week that Mooney was unlikely to additional time following his early departure from last week's 27-17 loss to Tampa Bay. The wideout put up 4-53-1 on a team-high-tying seven targets in the season opener but then didn't see any passes on 11 routes Week 2. If nothing else, Mooney can be counted on to play a large share of Chicago's snaps while running many of his routes downfield.
Sep 21, 2023
Reps capped again Thursday
Mooney (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
For the second day in a row, Mooney had his reps managed in practice while he tends to the knee issue. The Bears haven't expressed any major concern with Mooney's health, so if he's able to bump up to full participation in Friday's session, he'll likely approach Sunday's game in Kansas City without an injury designation. Through the Bears' first two games, Mooney has hauled in four of seven targets for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Sep 20, 2023
Limited practice Wednesday
Mooney (knee) practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney departed this past Sunday's loss at Tampa Bay due to a knee injury, but Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reported after the game that the issue isn't considered to be severe. By kicking off Week 3 prep with a capped session, Mooney may be trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's visit to the Chiefs. In the end, though, his status will need to be monitored to get a sense of his potential to play in that contest.
Sep 17, 2023
Knee injury isn't serious
The knee injury Mooney suffered in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Buccaneers isn't considered serious, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney left the game early in the second half, but he isn't expected to miss much, if any, additional time. He had 53 yards and a touchdown in Chicago's season opener but finished without a target in Week 2. Mooney's next chance to take the field will be in Week 3 against Kansas City.
Sep 17, 2023
Suffers knee injury Sunday
Mooney exited Sunday's game at Tampa Bay due to a knee injury, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney made his way to the sideline after the first play of the Bears' second possession of the second half. If he's unable to return, he'll emerge from Week 2 without a target. Chicago's other active wide receivers Sunday are DJ Moore, Chase Claypool, Tyler Scott, Trent Taylor and Velus Jones.
Sep 10, 2023
Scores in defeat
Mooney caught four of seven targets for 53 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 38-20 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Mooney tied with two others for Chicago's team lead in targets, but his total was significantly higher than top wideout DJ Moore's two. In fact, Mooney led the Bears in receiving yards, with a 20-yard touchdown to end the third quarter to boot. After a disappointing, injury-shortened 2022 campaign, Mooney was one of few bright spots for the Bears while returning to action Sunday.
Aug 26, 2023
Targeted twice
Mooney finished without a catch on two targets in Saturday's preseason game against Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
DJ Moore had his second big play of the preseason on one of Justin Fields' two completions. Mooney got two of the six targets from Fields, including one into the end zone, in his first game since suffering a broken ankle last November. He'll presumably be the Bears' No. 2 receiver, behind Moore, when they open the season with a Week 1 home game against Green Bay.
Aug 19, 2023
Not in line to play Saturday
Mooney isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason game at Indianapolis, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Along with Mooney, DJ Moore, Chase Claypool (hamstring), Tyler Scott and Velus Jones (undisclosed) won't be available in the Bears' second exhibition. Mooney was cleared to practice at the start of training camp after spending the entire offseason in recovery mode from the ankle injury that ended his 2022 campaign after Week 12. With the offseason addition of Moore, Mooney now is the No. 2 receiving option, at best, for quarterback Justin Fields in the Bears offense.

Eased into camp
Mooney is easing into practice this summer after rehabbing from ankle surgery during the offseason, Collen Kane of The Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
It sounds like Mooney is off to a good start, already doing 7-on-7s and individual drills during the first week of training camp. He mentioned that he'd been planning to have offseason ankle surgery even before suffering a season-ending ankle fracture in late November, though it presumably would've been a lesser procedure with a shorter recovery timeline had he not sustained the major injury. Mooney is no longer Chicago's No. 1 receiver as he enters the final year of his rookie contract, but there's a chance he stays fantasy-relevant as second fiddle to DJ Moore if the Bears' passing attack takes a big step forward in Luke Getsy's second year as offensive coordinator and Justin Fields' third season as the starting QB.

Cleared to practice
Mooney (ankle) has received medical clearance to resume practicing Tuesday, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney went down Week 12 last season due to an ankle injury which ultimately required surgery, so it's encouraging to see him cleared for training camp. The speedy wideout no longer faces the pressure of operating as Chicago's No. 1 wideout with DJ Moore having joined the team, but he still figures to be Justin Field's go-to deep threat. That said, Mooney's per-game target total could dip even if the Bears make an effort to pass more frequently, as Cole Kmet and Chase Claypool will also demand looks in what should be a run-first offense led by the dual-threat Fields.
Jul 11, 2023
Says he's ready for camp
Mooney (ankle) said Monday that he's "feeling good" and "ready to roll" for training camp, WGN's Kaitlin Sharkey and Rick Tarsitano report.
ANALYSIS
Coach Matt Eberflus was similarly optimistic back in early June, noting that Mooney was on track for the start of training camp after having season-ending ankle surgery in November. The speedy wideout's decreased fantasy standing relative to this time last summer is partially a product of his disappointing, injury-shortened 2022 campaign, but Chicago's offseason trade for WR DJ Moore might be an even bigger factor, providing tough competition for targets in an offense that figures to rank near the top of the league in rush attempts so long as dual-threat QB Justin Fields stays healthy. While the Bears should be more aggressive throwing the ball on early downs with Fields another year older and Moore now on the roster, they also have two other players (TE Cole Kmet, WR Chase Claypool) squarely in the mix to earn significant target shares.

Will be ready for training camp
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said Wednesday that, barring a setback, Mooney (ankle) will be ready for training camp, Adam Hoge of AllCHGO.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney hasn't been available for any of the Bears' offseason workouts while rehabbing from a season-ending ankle surgery last November. Eberflus has maintained a positive outlook on the wideout's recovery, and it appears Mooney is still on track to be 100 percent by Week 1. The 2020 fifth-round pick's target share is expected to take a hit in 2023 after the addition of DJ Moore, but Mooney should still operate as Chicago's top deep threat, while Moore, Chase Claypool and Cole Kmet handle the short and intermediate looks.
May 23, 2023
Still rehabbing ankle injury
Mooney (ankle) isn't participating in Bears OTAs this week, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney went down in Week 12 of last season and needed surgery on the ankle. Coach Matt Eberflus said Mooney is "progressing," but it sounds like we shouldn't expect to see him on the field before the start of training camp. With D.J. Moore now in town, Mooney's targets are going to take a hit, but he should see less attention from opposing defenses. Look for Mooney to serve as Chicago's top downfield weapon with Moore and Cole Kmet hogging intermediate looks.

Recovery going well
Mooney was recently spotted running during spring workouts and appears to be recovering well from his season-ending ankle injury, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chicago's top receiver suffered an ankle injury in Week 12 of last season that kept him out for the remainder of the year, but his recovery seems to be going well. Before the injury, the now fourth-year wide receiver was leading the team with 493 yards, 61 targets and 40 receptions in what was a down year compared to his previous season, when he had 1,055 yards, 140 targets and 81 receptions. In the ensuing months, Chicago acquired wide receivers Chase Claypool and DJ Moore and addressed its poor offensive line play, drafting tackle Darnell Wright 10th overall and signing guard Nate Davis in an effort to assist starting quarterback Justin Fields. While Mooney won't be the target hog he used to be due with Chicago's new and improved weapons, he could be more potent on a per-play basis.

Recovery going well
Mooney was spotted running during spring workouts and appears to be recovering well from 2022's season-ending ankle injury, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chicago's top receiver suffered an ankle injury in Week 12 of last season that kept him out for the remainder of the year, but his recovery seems to be going well. Before the injury, the now fourth-year wide receiver was leading the team with 493 yards, 61 targets and 40 receptions in what was a down year compared to his previous season where he had 1,055 yards, 140 targets and 81 receptions. In the ensuing months, Chicago acquired wide receivers Chase Claypool and DJ Moore and addressed their poor offensive line play, drafting tackle Darnell Wright 10th overall and signing guard Nate Davis in an effort to maximize starting quarterback Justin Fields. While Mooney won't be the target hog he used to be due to Chicago's new and improved weapons, he could be more potent on a per-play basis.
Mar 11, 2023
Role change likely
Mooney (ankle) should now be the Bears' No. 2 receiver after the Bears acquired DJ Moore Friday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney proved to be an excellent receiver when he posted 1,055 and four touchdowns in 2021. But last year, the Bears' passing offense was struggling to start the year. Then in Week 12, Mooney fractured his ankle, and he ended the year with 493 yards. Expected to be back on the field in some capacity this spring while he recovers from the injury, he should be a much better fit as a No. 2 receiver, with DJ Moore expected to slot in as the top option. Mooney has shown the ability to get open at all levels of the field. Even though it's unlikely he reaches the 140 targets he saw in 2021, the quality of targets could increase with defenses focusing on Moore. After 40 wide receivers are off the board, Mooney is a player to consider in fantasy drafts for those who believe Chicago will try to open up their passing attack.

Should be back for OTAs
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said Tuesday that Mooney (ankle) should be back on the field in some capacity this spring depending on how his rehab process goes, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney is working his way back from the season-ending surgery he underwent to repair a fractured left ankle, an injury he sustained in the Bears' Week 12 loss to the Jets. Before getting hurt, the third-year wideout was the top target for quarterback Justin Fields, hauling in 40 passes for 493 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games. The Bears are likely to address their receiving group through the draft, free agency and/or the trade market this offseason, but Mooney should be locked into a starting role regardless of what additions Chicago makes.
Jan 8, 2023
Ends season on injured reserve
Mooney ended the season with 40 receptions for 493 yards and two touchdowns over 12 games.
ANALYSIS
After breaking out with 1,055 yards and four touchdowns in 2021, it was a disappointing season for Mooney. Early in the season, he was limited by an offense that used Justin Fields as a drop-back passer behind a porous offensive line. As the Bears began to use Fields' legs more often, Mooney became more productive. Unless the Bears make adding wide receiver talent an offseason priority, Mooney could remain the team's top option in the passing game. He's under contract with the team through the 2023 season.
Nov 29, 2022
Goes on IR
Chicago placed Mooney (ankle) on injured reserve Tuesday, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney's move to IR comes as little surprise after Bears head coach Matt Eberflus revealed Monday that the receiver would require season-ending surgery to address the right ankle injury he sustained in Sunday's loss to the Jets. The third-year player finishes the season with 40 receptions for 493 yards and two touchdowns across 61 targets in 10 games. The Bears are left with Chase Claypool, Equanimeous St. Brown, Dante Pettis, Byron Pringle, Velus Jones and N'Keal Harry as their healthy options at receiver with their No. 1 target out for the season.
Nov 28, 2022
Out for season per HC
Coach Matt Eberflus said Monday that Mooney (ankle) is likely headed to IR and will need ankle surgery, which will end his season, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Mooney's season is over after suffering an ankle injury on a run play during Sunday's loss to the Jets. He'll end his season with 40 receptions on 61 targets for 493 yards and two touchdowns. It will wind up being a disappointing third season for the wideout, who totaled a career-high 1,055 receiving yards last year.
Nov 27, 2022
Season-ending surgery likely
Mooney likely needs season-ending surgery for the ankle injury he suffered in Sunday's 31-10 loss to the Jets, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney went down in pain after having his leg rolled up on. It turns out the injury was to his ankle, and while further tests are necessary for confirmation, the expectation is that Mooney will need season-ending surgery. He'll likely finish his third NFL season with 40 catches for 493 yards and two touchdowns on 61 targets, getting less than halfway to last year's career-high 1,055 yards.
Nov 27, 2022
Injures leg Sunday
Mooney left Sunday's game at the Jets with an apparent leg injury, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
On the first play of the Bears' second drive of the third quarter, Mooney stayed on the turf for a spell as he was tended to by team trainers. He then wasn't able to put any weight on his left leg as he was assisted to the locker room. The nature of the issue is unknown, but Chicago may have to go with Equanimeous St. Brown, Chase Claypool, Dante Pettis, Byron Pringle and Velus Jones at wide receiver for the rest of Week 12.
Nov 20, 2022
Finds end zone in Week 11 loss
Mooney caught four of five targets for 29 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-24 loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Mooney capped Chicago's first possession with a 16-yard touchdown catch. He got behind his defender deep downfield on the next drive, but Justin Fields overthrew the speedy wide receiver. Chicago went with a run-heavy approach the rest of the way, and Mooney actually finished with team-high totals in targets and catches. Fields hurt his non-throwing shoulder late in the game, but even if the starting quarterback plays in Week 12 against the Jets, Mooney will be tough to trust against standout rookie cornerback Sauce Gardner.
Nov 13, 2022
Four catches Sunday
Mooney caught all four of his targets for 57 yards in Sunday's 31-30 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
The four targets represented Mooney's lowest volume since Week 2, but the third-year wideout did what he could with them. Cole Kmet has emerged as Justin Fields' favorite option in recent weeks, leading the Bears with seven targets Sunday and catching five TDs over the last three games, but no other Chicago player saw more than two targets. Mooney remains the top WR in a low-volume passing attack heading into a Week 11 clash with the Falcons.
Nov 6, 2022
First TD of '22 in loss
Mooney secured seven of eight targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 35-32 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. He also rushed once for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Mooney led the Bears in receptions, receiving yards and targets while also recording his first touchdown of the season on a nifty 16-yard catch with 1:53 remaining in the first half. The third-year speedster's production continues to unsurprisingly run parallel to Justin Fields' improved efficiency and accuracy, as he now has at least five receptions in three of his last four games. Mooney will aim for another trip to the end zone in a favorable Week 10 home divisional battle against the Lions.
Oct 30, 2022
Overcomes slow start
Mooney recorded five receptions on five targets for 70 yards in Sunday's 49-29 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Mooney got off to a slow start in the first half by tallying only one reception for three yards, with the Bears instead heavily reliant on their rushing attack. However, he was able to make some big plays in the second half -- highlighted by gains of 36 and 17 yards -- to lead the team in both receptions and receiving yards. His volume remains inconsistent, but Mooney has at least one catch of more than 20 yards in five straight games. In that same span, he's managed a minimum of 52 receiving yards.
Oct 25, 2022
Fades after hot start
Mooney recorded three receptions on six targets for 53 yards in Monday's 33-14 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Mooney helped the Bears get off to a hot start offensively, tallying receptions of 20,17 and 16 yards prior to halftime. However, Justin Fields attempted just eight passes in the final two quarters with the Bears in control of the game, limiting Mooney's potential for a big performance. Despite the disappointing close to the game, Mooney has topped 50 receiving yards in four consecutive games after combining to post 27 yards across the first three contests of the campaign.
Oct 13, 2022
Comes up just short on final play
Mooney secured seven of 12 targets for 68 yards in the Bears' 12-7 loss to the Commanders on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
The third-year speedster led the Bears in receptions and targets while checking in second in receiving yards, but his final catch of the night is what will draw the most attention. Mooney hauled in a pass from Justin Fields that initially hit him in the chest mid-air as his body crossed the plane of the goal line, but he bobbled it and didn't secure it until coming down about a half-yard short of the end zone. The fact the play unfolded on fourth down with 30 seconds remaining and the Bears down five naturally magnifies the failure to score and sullies what was otherwise his best all-around performance following a forgettable start to the season. Mooney will aim to atone when the Bears visit the Patriots for a Week 7 Monday night showdown Oct. 24.
Oct 9, 2022
Makes highlight grab
Mooney caught two of five targets for 52 yards in Sunday's 29-22 loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Mooney's performance was highlighted by an outstanding one-handed catch for 39 yards during the second quarter. That play marked Chicago's longest through the air, helping quarterback Justin Fields finish with a season-high 208 passing yards. With back-to-back games with at least 50 receiving yards, Mooney has built a bit of momentum ahead of Week 6's matchup versus the Dolphins.
Oct 2, 2022
Season-high 94 yards in loss
Mooney caught four of five targets for 94 yards in Sunday's 20-12 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Mooney came into this one averaging just nine receiving yards per game in 2022 but posted a performance reminiscent of last season's 1,055-yard campaign. He accounted for most of Justin Fields' 174 passing yards, with the majority of Mooney's production coming on a 56-yard catch in the first quarter. Mooney should remain the top fantasy option in Chicago's low-volume passing game against the Vikings in Week 5.
Sep 25, 2022
Two catches in Week 3
Mooney caught two of six targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Mooney led the Bears in targets but once again failed to make much of an impact as Justin Fields completed only eight passes. Fields is averaging fewer than 100 passing yards per game, so it will be tough to trust any Bears receivers in Week 4 against the Giants, though Mooney remains the nominal top option among that group.
Sep 19, 2022
No progress in Week 2
Mooney caught one of two targets for minus-4 yards in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Two weeks into the season, Mooney has just four receiving yards on five targets, and there wasn't any inclement weather to blame his poor performance on this time. He's far from the only member of Chicago's passing attack that's off to a slow start, as quarterback Justin Fields has thrown for just 182 yards through two games. Mooney will try to get his season on track in Week 3 against the Texans and rookie cornerback Derek Stingley, whom Houston selected third overall in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Sep 11, 2022
Slow start to season
Mooney caught one pass for eight yards in the Bears' 19-10 win over the 49ers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney didn't catch his only pass until the fourth quarter, though he was targeted three times. Both teams threw for just 285 yards, as the game was played on a soaked field along with intermittent heavy rain. He should go back to being heavily targeted when the Bears travel to Green Bay next week.
Aug 27, 2022
One catch in preseason finale
Mooney caught his only target for five yards in Chicago's preseason game against Cleveland on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney didn't have much to do in Chicago's preseason finale, but the exact opposite will be the case when the Bears kick off their regular season schedule. As much as his Week 1 matchup against San Francisco might be less than favorable, the Bears might need to give him a good target count anyway.
Aug 27, 2022
In line to play Saturday
Mooney may play the entire first half along with the Bears' starters in Saturday's preseason finale against the Browns,
ANALYSIS
Mooney was on the field for one drive last week, but coach Matt Eberflus expects to play his starters for the entire first half against Cleveland. Mooney appears to be the unquestioned top option in the Chicago passing attack for Justin Fields going into this season.
Aug 21, 2022
Likely to sit Saturday
Mooney and the Bears starters are expected to be sidelined Saturday against the Browns, Alyssa Barbieri of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
After playing the starters briefly in each of the first two preseason games, the first-string unit is expected to sit out in order to avoid unnecessary injury. Assuming that's the case, we'll see Mooney next in Week 1 against the 49ers.
Aug 19, 2022
Plays one drive Thursday
Mooney caught one of two targets for six yards in Thursday's 27-11 preseason win over Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Both of Mooney's targets came from starting quarterback Justin Fields, as they both played the first drive and got the remainder of the night off. Chicago's No. 1 wide receiver will likely be used sparingly once again in the Bears' Aug. 27 preseason finale in Cleveland.
Aug 16, 2022
Limited action expected Thursday
Mooney may be on the field for six-to-10 plays in Thursday's game against the Seahawks Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After playing in two series last week, Mooney is likely to see a similar amount of work this week. However, Fishbain also reported that some players may see 20 snaps, so that's possible for Mooney as well. Coach Matt Eberflus cites the short week as to why starters aren't playing more.
Aug 13, 2022
Catches one pass
Mooney caught one pass for 26 yards in Saturday's preseason win against Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Mooney's lone target came in the Bears' second series while Justin Fields was still in the game and represented the team's longest reception of the day. He should be the Bears' top wide receiver this season.
Aug 11, 2022
Expected to play Saturday
Mooney is expected to play along with the Bears' starters in Saturday's preseason opener against the Chiefs, Alyssa Barbieri of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Although not listed by name in the report, coach Matt Eberflus informed reporters that Chicago's starters will play 15 to 20 snaps, though some will play just 10 to 15, in Saturday's game against Kansas City. Mooney is a near lock to start the season as the team's top receiver after surpassing 1,000 yards last year.
Jul 14, 2022
Working to improve conditioning
Mooney struggled with fatigue at times last year, and he spent the offseason working to avoid a recurrence in 2022, Dan Pompei of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Even though Allen Robinson was often thought of as the lead receiver, it was Mooney who was the top receiver on the Bears for the majority of the season. From Week 8 on, he had six games with at least 60 yards with three of those resulted in over 120 yards. He'll have a full training camp to work with Justin Fields, and after finishing 22nd among wide receivers in fantasy points last year, that rapport could help him move inside the top 20.
Jan 9, 2022
Comes up big in season finale
Mooney caught 12 passes for 126 yards in the Bears' 31-17 Week 18 loss to the Vikings, and he ended the season with 81 receptions 1,054 yards and four touchdowns.
ANALYSIS
Despite the Bears having a mostly anemic passing attack throughout the season, Mooney showed that is on his way to becoming a star player. On four occasions, he recorded more than 120 yards and although he had just four receiving scores, the lack of touchdowns had more to do with the lack of quality at quarterback than his talent. He'll enter the third year of his four-year rookie deal in 2022, and he could be in line for a breakout season who'll likely be drafted as a top-30 wide receiver.
Jan 2, 2022
Leads team in receiving
Mooney caught seven passes for 69 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 29-3 win over the Giants on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney scored his touchdown in the first quarter, but even with the Bears winning in a blowout before halftime, he continued seeing passes from Andy Dalton after the intermission. As the clear lead receiver, Mooney's 13 targets were more than double the amount of any of his teammates. With at least 57 yards in each of his last three games, he'll remain an excellent floor play in Week 18 against the Vikings.
Dec 26, 2021
Leads team with nine targets
Mooney caught five passes for 57 yards while adding a two-yard rush in the Bears' 25-24 win over the Seahawks on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney had fewer than 10 yards with a couple minutes left in the third quarter, but with the team mounting a late comeback, Mooney had a productive finish to the game. Earlier in the contest, Nick Foles struggled to get the ball to his top receiver, underthrowing him on a couple occasions and simply not seeing him on other plays. With a fair chance of the Bears getting back Justin Fields or Andy Dalton in Week 17, Mooney will be in position to take advantage of a middling matchup against the Giants.
Dec 20, 2021
Efficient performance in defeat
Mooney caught five passes for 63 yards in the Bears' 17-9 loss to the Vikings on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney caught three of his passes on third downs in the first half, which helped the Bears extend drives, but otherwise, the team went with a run-heavy approach, and Mooney disappeared for most of the second and third quarters. Even on the first fourth-quarter drive in which the Bears drove down the field through the air, the only target Mooney saw was an overthrown ball in the end zone that he was unable to stay in bounds on. On the next drive, he had another chance for a score, but again, the pass was overthrown. Although his usage hasn't been consistent, he could easily have a strong finish to the fantasy season with games against the Seahawks and Giants, especially if he can return to the target share he saw between Week 8 and Week 12.
Dec 13, 2021
Disappointing performance
Mooney caught pass for 19 yards in the Bears' 45-30 loss to the Packers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Aside from a pair of improbable big receptions by Damiere Byrd and Jakeem Grant, the Bears' passing attack struggled to have consistent success, and Mooney was unable to find much space against a Green Bay secondary that rarely gave him room to operate. Although he was targeted five times, his target total fell behind David Montgomery and Allen Robinson. Over the last two games, Mooney's posted his worst performances since Week 3, but his talent and role in the offense should lead to a rebound in the fantasy playoffs.
Dec 5, 2021
Struggles in loss
Mooney caught five passes for 27 yards in the Bears' 33-22 loss to the Cardinals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Between the Cardinals rolling coverage toward Chicago's top receiver along with Andy Dalton having very little time to throw, Mooney was unable to get anything going downfield. With the Bears playing from behind in the fourth quarter, Mooney was able to catch four of his five passes on the day to provide his fantasy managers with a decent floor performance. Going forward, Mooney could easily perform as a top-30 wide receiver as the lead receiver for the Bears, and he could see extra space to operate if Allen Robinson (hamstring) can return to action soon.
Nov 25, 2021
Huge effort in Thanksgiving win
Mooney caught five of eight targets for 123 yards in a 16-14 win over the Lions on Thanksgiving.
ANALYSIS
With Allen Robinson (hamstring) out for a second straight game and Marquise Goodwin (foot) exiting early Thursday, Mooney was left as Andy Dalton's only reliable option at wideout, and the second-year speedster took full advantage by topping 120 yards for the second straight game and the third time this season. He could have trouble keeping that streak going in Week 13, however. In addition to a tough matchup against the Cardinals and the potential return of Robinson cutting into his opportunities, rookie Justin Fields (ribs) could be back under center in place of Andy Dalton, increasing the volatility of the entire Chicago passing game.
Nov 24, 2021
Clear for Thursday
Mooney (foot), who was listed at limited on all three of the Bears' Week 12 practice reports, doesn't have a designation for Thursday's contest at Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, No. 1 wide receiver Allen Robinson (hamstring) didn't practice and was listed as doubtful for a second week in a row, which resulted in a DNP this past Sunday against the Ravens. During that contest, Mooney notched a career-high 16 targets and turned them into five catches for 121 yards and one touchdowns. Justin Fields left in the second half of Sunday's game due to bruised ribs and won't play Thursday, meaning Mooney will be on the receiving end of passes from Andy Dalton, with whom he connected on a 60-yard score Week 11.
Nov 23, 2021
Remains limited at practice
Mooney (foot) was estimated as a limited participant Tuesday for the Bears' walk-through practice.
ANALYSIS
Chicago has now listed Mooney as a limited participant on both of its first two Week 12 reports, but head coach Matt Nagy hasn't expressed any outward concern about the wideout's availability for a Thanksgiving Day game in Detroit. At the very least, Mooney's health appears to be in a better spot than fellow starting wideout Allen Robinson (hamstring), who went down as a non-participant for the second straight day coming off an absence in the Bears' Week 11 loss to the Ravens. Assuming Robinson is unable to return to action on a short week, Mooney could be in store for another huge target share Thursday. Mooney drew a season-high 16 looks in the loss to Baltimore, catching five of them for 121 yards and a touchdown.
Nov 22, 2021
'Limited' on first Week 12 report
The Bears listed Mooney (foot) as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report.
ANALYSIS
The same foot injury rendered Mooney a limited participant in two of the Bears' practices last week, but it didn't stop the second-year wideout from turning in a season-best 5-121-1 receiving line on a career-high 16 targets in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Ravens. The absence of Allen Robinson (hamstring) likely was a significant factor in Mooney earning extra looks, but the latter could be headed for another busy game Thanksgiving Day against the Lions. Robinson was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice report and may have a tough time gaining clearance to play on a short week.
Nov 21, 2021
Huge performance in defeat
Mooney caught five passes for 121 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 16-13 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney caught a screen pass from Andy Dalton and raced past the defense for a 60-yard score on his biggest play of the day. He also led the team with 15 targets, and he had a number of near misses on a number of downfield plays that kept him from having an even bigger day. He's averaged 10 targets and 75 yards with two touchdowns over his last three games, and his recent performances have begun to establish him as a solid weekly fantasy starter.
Nov 19, 2021
Cleared to play, Robinson doubtful
Mooney (foot) has no injury designation for Sunday's game against Baltimore, while fellow Bears wideout Allen Robinson (hamstring) is listed as doubtful, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has already been more productive than his talented, veteran teammate this season, and the second-year pro now has a nice opportunity for dominant target share. The downside is the possibility of increased attention from the Baltimore secondary, which hasn't played up to its usual standard in 2021 while struggling with injuries and coverage miscommunications. Mooney has seen no fewer than four targets and no more than nine in any game this year, with his best fantasy performance coming in Chicago's most recent game (Week 9 at Pittsburgh) when he had just three catches for 41 yards on six targets but scored one TD through the air and another on the ground.
Nov 18, 2021
Remains limited Thursday
Mooney (foot) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Prior to preparation for Week 11, Mooney dealt with back and groin injuries. Now, a new health concern is impacting his practice reps, but it should be noted he's been able to play in each of the Bears' nine games this season, logging at least 70 percent of the offensive snaps on each occasion. Friday's injury report will reveal whether he enters the weekend with a designation, but when it comes to his value Mooney could be in line to serve as Justin Field's No. 1 wide receiver with Allen Robinson (hamstring) so far unable to practice this week.
Nov 17, 2021
Limited by foot issue
Mooney (foot) was limited in practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has been plagued by injuries this season, with back and groin issues impacting his practice reps. After the Bears' Week 10 bye, he now is tending to a foot concern. On a positive note, Mooney was able to fit in some activity Wednesday, which cannot be said for Allen Robinson (hamstring). In any case, the status of Chicago's top two wide receivers is cloudy in advance of Sunday's contest against the Ravens.
Nov 9, 2021
Scores twice in defeat
Mooney caught three of six targets for 41 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's 29-27 loss to the Steelers. He also rushed once for a 15-yard score.
ANALYSIS
Mooney helped fuel Chicago's comeback effort, taking a wildcat handoff into the end zone to begin the fourth quarter before skillfully securing a 16-yard touchdown catch along the sideline to put the Bears ahead with under two minutes remaining. Although his pair of late scores still didn't result in a victory, Mooney at least enjoyed one of his best performances of the campaign, sending him into the bye week with the only multi-touchdown outing of his early career.
Nov 8, 2021
Playing in Week 9
Mooney (groin) is listed as active Monday at Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Mooney capped Week 9 prep with back-to-back limited practices due to a groin injury, but it won't stop him from missing the first regular-season game of his one-and-half seasons in the NFL. He's mostly had muted performances this season, with just one outing of more than 100 yards and just one touchdown across eight contests. Mooney will aim to up his performance against the Steelers' 14th-ranked pass defense (239.7 yards per game).
Nov 6, 2021
Listed as questionable
Mooney (groin) is listed as questionable for Monday's matchup against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Mooney popped up on the injury report Thursday and was a limited participant in practice the following two days. The lack of conversation regarding Mooney's injury would seemingly indicate he'll be available for Monday's contest, but more information regarding his status should be available ahead of Monday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff.
Nov 5, 2021
Pops up on injury report
Mooney was listed as a limited participant at Thursday's practice due to a groin injury.
ANALYSIS
Mooney had frequently been included on Chicago's injury reports through the first eight weeks of the season due to the groin issue, but he avoided the initial Week 9 report released Thursday before being added a day later. The Bears haven't provided an explanation behind Mooney's addition, but it could be indicative of a setback suffered during Friday's practice. Regardless, Chicago will see what the second-year wideout is able to do Saturday before deciding whether he'll carry a designation into Monday's game in Pittsburgh.
Oct 31, 2021
Leads team in receiving
Mooney caught six passes for 64 yards in the Bears' 33-22 loss to the 49ers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was targeted nine times, which was six more than any wide receiver on the team, but as usual, with Justin Fields for throwing for less than 200 yards, there was only so much production to go around. Overall, Mooney has three games with at least 66 yards over his last seven contests, and he's the only Chicago wide receiver who has been a viable fantasy option this season.
Oct 24, 2021
Targeted five times in defeat
Mooney caught two passes for 39 yards in the Bears' 38-3 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The Buccaneers pressured Justin Fields throughout the afternoon, giving Mooney little chance to operate in his preferred downfield capacity, though he did have receptions of 17 and 22 yards, giving him a passable fantasy performance in a game the Bears failed to find the end zone. He's posted between 35 and 45 yards in each of his last three games, and until the offense shows improvement, he'll likely remain a top-40 fantasy option at WR, though his big-play ability gives him some weekly upside.
Oct 22, 2021
Cleared for Sunday
Mooney (groin) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game in Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has been playing through the same injury since late September and even managed a full practice this Friday. He'll take on an injury-marred Tampa secondary this Sunday, though favorable matchups haven't necessarily meant much for Chicago's feeble passing game this year.
Oct 21, 2021
Stays limited Thursday
Mooney (groin) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday.
ANALYSIS
As he's done since Week 3, Mooney has put in capped weekly workloads in advance of game days due to a groin injury. Week 7 has been no different, but it's yet to be determined whether he'll ditch his designation on the Bears' final practice report. Fellow wide receiver Allen Robinson (ankle) put in limited work, too, Thursday after sitting out Wednesday, so there is some fog hanging over both of the team's top two wide receivers.
Oct 20, 2021
Limited in practice
Mooney (groin) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Mooney first appeared on the Bears' injury reports with the groin issue Week 3, but it hasn't stopped him from playing in any of the team's ensuing four games. During that four-game stretch, Mooney (14 catches for 214 yards and a touchdown on 24 targets) has actually outproduced No. 1 receiver Allen Robinson (13-175-0 on 21 targets). Mooney also looks to be the healthier of the two wideouts of the moment, as Robinson sat out Wednesday's practice with an ankle injury.
Oct 17, 2021
Scores first touchdown of season
Mooney caught five passes for 45 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 24-14 loss to the Packers on Sunday
ANALYSIS
Mooney led the Bears with eight targets, but he was unable to make downfield plays while the Packers were applying consistent pressure on Justin Fields. On his touchdown, Mooney found an opening in the Green Bay zone, and Fields found him for an easy score. Since Fields entered the mix at quarterback for the Bears, Mooney has posted at least 66 yards or scored in three of the last five games, and he should continue to see enough targets to be in consideration as a starting option when making weekly fantasy lineups.
Oct 15, 2021
Good for Sunday
Mooney (groin) has no injury designation for Sunday's game against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
It was the same deal last week, with Mooney listed on the injury report before logging a full practice Friday and avoiding a game designation. He's showing signs of Year 2 improvement with a 64.5 percent catch rate and 8.4 yards per target, but he's averaging only 6.2 targets per week overall and 5.3 per game with QB Justin Fields as the starter. It is possible Mooney gets some extra looks if Allen Robinson (Q/ankle) is limited or unavailable, though A-Rob returned to practice Friday.
Oct 14, 2021
Limited Thursday
Mooney (groin) was limited at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
With another limited showing under his belt, Mooney has been listed as such in 10 of the past 11 Bears injury reports. Still, it hasn't impacted his ability to suit up on game days, so even if he enters the weekend with a designation for Sunday's contest versus the Packers, he doesn't seem to be a candidate to sit out. Through five outings this season, Mooney has been hit or miss, with three games below 40 receiving yards, one with 100-plus yards and overall no touchdowns.
Oct 13, 2021
Remains limited at practice
Mooney (groin) practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has been a regular on Bears injury reports this season, but his health concerns haven't impacted his ability to suit up for games. He hasn't visited the end zone through five contests, but his overall receiving line of 20-261-0 on 31 targets is reasonable enough working with Andy Dalton and rookie Justin Fields. Fields (rib/knee) was able to practice fully Wednesday, while No. 1 wide receiver Allen Robinson (ankle) showed up on the report for the first time this season as a non-participant. The extent of Robinson's health concern is unknown, but Mooney would stand to benefit if the former misses any time or is inhibited on game days.
Oct 8, 2021
Cleared for Week 5
Mooney (groin) was a full practice participant Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Quarterback play is now the biggest concern for both Mooney and Allen Robinson, though the second-year pro did catch five of seven targets for 125 yards last week in a 24-14 win over the Lions. Rookie Justin Fields, while erratic, has at least sent 15 of his 52 targets (28.9 percent) in Mooney's direction so far, while Robinson (13, 25.0 percent) is the only other player who has seen more than eight passes from the rookie QB. Injuries could improve Mooney's matchup this week, with the Raiders potentially missing No. 2 CB Trayvon Mullen (foot) and No. 4 CB Damon Arnette (groin).
Oct 7, 2021
Stays limited at practice
Mooney (groin) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Despite dealing with a few injuries this season, Mooney hasn't missed a game, and his share of the offensive snaps has been above 70 percent in all four contests. He hit that number exactly this past Sunday against the Lions, but he nonetheless put together his best performance of the campaign (5-125-0 on seven targets). Assuming he gets the all-clear ahead of Sunday's visit to Las Vegas, Mooney may produce against a Raiders defense that has allowed the 12th-most catches (57) to wide receivers in 2021.
Oct 6, 2021
Still limited by groin issue
Mooney (groin) was limited at Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has been a regular on Bears injury reports this season, first with a back issue and now a groin injury. The latter concern has lingered into a third consecutive week of prep, but he is coming off his most productive performance of the season this past Sunday, when he hauled in five of seven passes for 125 yards versus the Lions. Assuming he gets through this week unscathed, too, Mooney will look to continue to his recent success with Justin Fields under center moving forward.
Oct 3, 2021
Eclipses century mark
Mooney caught five passes for 125 yards in the Bears' 24-14 win over the Lions on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney streaked between a pair of defenders, and Justin Fields threw a perfect pass on a 64-yard connection, helping the receiver to the first 100-yard game of his career. In a game the Bears threw just 17 passes, Mooney had seven targets, and he was the only Chicago receiver with more than three looks. He's now seen at least seven targets in all but one game this year, but with inconsistent production so far, he'll be a risky fantasy option with moderate upside.
Oct 3, 2021
Suiting up Sunday
Mooney (groin) is active for Sunday's game against the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has been dogged by the groin injury for both of the past two weeks, but it didn't stop him from playing 98 percent of the Bears' offensive snaps in the Week 3 loss to the Browns. The Justin Fields-led passing game struggled mightily in the rookie quarterback's first NFL start, and Mooney was no exception to that, as he finished Week 3 with one reception for nine yards on four targets. Fields will draw a much softer matchup in his second start this weekend, and with some better game planning from the Bears' coaching staff, Mooney could be in store for a bounce-back outing versus Detroit.
Oct 1, 2021
Groin injury not going away
Mooney (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has logged a trio of limited practices this week. He played through this injury against the Browns in Week 3 but was held to one catch in Justin Fields' first start under center. Getting quarterback Andy Dalton (knee) back would be a boon to Mooney's outlook, but Dalton's also listed as questionable after three limited practices of his own.
Sep 30, 2021
Still limited Thursday
Mooney (groin) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has gutted through back and groin injuries so far this season, and even though his practice reps have been capped by the Bears, he's logged at least 89 percent of the offensive snaps in all three games. It's possible the combination of being less than 100 percent and poor quarterback play have contributed to a pedestrian 12-101-0 line on 19 targets, but he'll look to get on the right track Week 4 against the Lions, assuming he's active.
Sep 29, 2021
Remains limited at practice
Mooney (groin) was a limited practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney's availability has been in question for all three games this season, first by a back injury Weeks 1 and 2 and then by a groin issue last week, but he still was able to play on game days. The latter has followed him into Week 4 prep, but perhaps the bigger question mark in Chicago is who will be throwing him passes. Andy Dalton (knee), who sat out this past Sunday in Cleveland, also was limited Wednesday, while rookie Justin Fields brushed off a right thumb injury and practiced in full. If Dalton doesn't make the requisite progress this week, Mooney likely will be on the receiving end of throws from Fields on Sunday against the Lions, assuming the wide receiver suits up again himself.
Sep 26, 2021
Nearly invisible in loss
Mooney caught one pass for nine yards in the Bears' 26-6 loss to the Browns on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was second on the team with four targets, but with the Chicago offense completely dominated by the Browns, the team was unable to sustain drives, which contributed to his weak performance. After having been targeted at least seven times in each of his prior games, he'll likely bounce back, and he may do so in an excellent matchup next week against the Lions.
Sep 26, 2021
Good to go Week 3
Mooney (groin) is active for Sunday's matchup against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was limited in practice all week for the Bears, but he'll ultimately suit up despite a "questionable" tag. Last week against the Bengals, Mooney led the bears in snap share and targets, and this week, he'll face a middle-of-the-pack Cleveland secondary that has allowed 29 catches and two touchdowns to opposing wideouts through two games. The other variable here is a new signal caller, as Justin Fields will be making his first career NFL start.
Sep 24, 2021
Deemed questionable
Mooney (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was a limited practice participant Wednesday through Friday, after seeing a team-high eight targets (6-66-0) on 89 percent snap share in the Week 2 win over Cincinnati. If Mooney ends up on the inactive list ahead of Sunday's 1:00 p.m. et kickoff, the Bears likely will turn to Marquise Goodwin and/or Damiere Byrd across from Allen Robinson. The team also has Breshad Perriman, but he was a healthy scratch for the first two games.
Sep 23, 2021
Still limited Thursday
Mooney (groin) was limited at Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Prior to having his practice reps capped this week due to a groin injury, Mooney had them managed during prep for the first two games of the season with a back issue. The second-year wide receiver still was able to suit up Weeks 1 and 2, combining for 11 catches (on 15 targets) for 92 yards and no touchdowns. Friday's injury report may clear up Mooney's standing heading into the weekend.
Sep 22, 2021
Remains limited by back injury
Mooney (groin) practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has been bothered by a back injury each of the first three weeks of the campaign. The results have been modest through two games, with the second-year receiver gathering in 11 of 15 targets for 92 yards and no touchdowns. Assuming he follows the same path this week. Mooney could produce Sunday against a Browns defense that has given up 9.5 YPT to wideouts this season (11th worst in the NFL).
Sep 19, 2021
Leads team in receiving
Mooney caught six passes for 66 yards in the Bears' 20-17 win over the Bengals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Not only did Mooney lead the team in receiving yardage, but his eight targets made him the only Chicago receiver with more than four. With the Bears leading throughout, they only threw 24 passes, so he could be in line for even better production in future games when the team needs to keep up on the scoreboard, especially as the second option in what seems to be a fairly narrow team target tree.
Sep 19, 2021
Suiting up Week 2
Mooney (back) is listed as active Sunday against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Going back to Week 1 prep, Mooney has logged four consecutive full practices, but the Bears have listed him as questionable for both of their first two games of the campaign. Still, he's ready to go Week 2 versus a Cincinnati defense that allowed 22 catches (fourth most in the NFL) to Minnesota wide receivers in the season opener.
Sep 17, 2021
Questionable despite full practices
Mooney (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney logged a trio of full practices throughout the week, so it would be surprising if the Bears' No. 2 receiver ultimately didn't suit up. Still, those relying on him in the fantasy realm should check back prior to kickoff to confirm that Mooney's indeed playing. He caught five passes for just 26 yards in the season opener.
Sep 13, 2021
Posts five receptions
Mooney caught five passes for 26 yards in the Bears' 34-14 loss to the Rams on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney had been on the injury report with a back issue coming into this game, but he ended up playing every snap while finishing second on the team with seven targets. With the Rams applying consistent pressure to Andy Dalton, there was little chance of getting the downfield game going, and as a result, Mooney's longest reception went for nine yards. After getting this tough matchup out of the way, he could be in line for a run of solid production based on his talent and opportunity as the clear second option in the passing game after Allen Robinson.
Sep 12, 2021
Suiting up in season opener
Mooney (back) is listed as active Sunday against the Rams in L.A.
ANALYSIS
The Bears managed Mooney's practice reps this week, limiting him Wednesday and Thursday. He logged a full session Friday but still entered the weekend as a question mark. With his status for the season opener now known, Mooney will be the team's No. 2 wide receiver behind Allen Robinson, which amounted to 6.1 targets per game as a rookie in 2020.
Sep 12, 2021
Expected to play Sunday night
Mooney (back) is expected to play in Sunday's night's season opener against the Rams, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Official confirmation of Mooney's Week 1 status will arrive when inactives are submitted in advance of Sunday's 8:20 ET kickoff, but supporting the notion that the wideout will be able to give it a go is that he practiced fully Friday after logging limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday.
Sep 10, 2021
Finishes week with full practce
Mooney (back) upgraded to full practice participation Friday but is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams, Mark Grote of 670 The Score reports.
ANALYSIS
The Bears have eight players listed as questionable, including two who were full practice participants throughout the week and another five who logged FP on Friday. Perhaps they're trying to obscure an actual injury concern, but it's more likely they're just being overly cautious with the NFL's injury-reporting system. Mooney should be fine for the season opener Sunday night in Los Angeles, operating as the No. 2 receiver in a Chicago offense that lacks a clear No. 3. He does get a tough matchup to start the season, though the Rams secondary may not be quite as dominant after losing two starting defensive backs (CB Troy Hill and S John Johnson) in the offseason.
Sep 9, 2021
Another limited session
Mooney (back) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The Bears have capped Mooney's reps so far during Week 1 preparations, but the second-year wide receiver has one more chance to get all the way back to full health for Sunday's visit to the Rams. While he isn't a major challenge to Allen Robinson's standing as the clear No. 1 option in the team's passing attack, Mooney should be good for at least his typical amount of work from 2020 (6.1 targets per game).
Sep 8, 2021
Bothered by back
Mooney (back) was a limited practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
It's the first report of a back injury this summer, with limited practice participation suggesting it isn't serious. Assuming he checks out later this week, Mooney is locked in as Chicago's No. 2 receiver, though it may be a distant second to Allen Robinson. The 2020 fifth-round pick showed impressive speed and route-running as a rookie, but he and Mitchell Trubisky struggled to complete plays. The Bears hope it'll be different this year with Andy Dalton, who starts things off with a road game against the Rams. It's a tough matchup for the Chicago passing game overall, but it might work in favor of Mooney's target volume if the Rams put star cover man Jalen Ramsey on Robinson.
Aug 28, 2021
Resting up for Week 1
Mooney isn't expected to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Titans, Adam Hoge of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Other skill-position players in line to be held out include QB Andy Dalton, RB David Montgomery, WRs Allen Robinson and Marquise Goodwin and TEs Jimmy Graham and Cole Kmet. The Bears figure to center their offense around Robinson and Montgomery again, but Mooney nonetheless has second-year breakout appeal after a solid rookie season where he improved throughout the year. The Bears' poor depth at wide receiver could work in his favor, perhaps leading to an every-down role and steady targets. However, Mooney gets a major challenge to start the season -- a road trip to Los Angeles to face a Rams defense led by DT Aaron Donald and CB Jalen Ramsey. The matchup might at least work in Mooney's favor when it comes to volume if the Rams use Ramsey to shadow Robinson for portions of the game.
Aug 5, 2021
Continues to shine
Mooney caught a pair of deep passes in Thursday's practice, as he looks to become a consistent downfield target for the Bears this season, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was frequently able to get open downfield as a rookie in 2020, but the lack of quality quarterback play limited him to just six receptions of over 20 yards. However, if Andy Dalton and Justin Fields are able to show accuracy on deep passes this year, Mooney could potentially see a significant bump in production from last season.
Jul 9, 2021
Shines at offseason
Mooney looked "more polished and explosive" throughout OTAs and June minicamp, according to Adam Jahns of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
A fifth-round pick last spring, Mooney handled 98 targets and 73 percent snap share as a rookie, operating as Chicago's No. 2 receiver from Week 2 onward. He did miss the team's lone playoff game with an ankle injury, but there's been no indication it affected his offseason routine, and Mooney should retain the No. 2 spot after the Bears added only Marquise Goodwin and Damiere Byrd to their WR room in the offseason. A breakout would require QBs Andy Dalton and Justin Fields to play better than last year's duo of Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles, especially when it comes to downfield passing. Mooney ran a 4.38 40-yard dash at the 2020 Combine, and he ranked 14th in the league last season with 24 targets 20-plus yards downfield (though he caught only four, T-61st). Mooney still figures to be the main deep threat in Chicago, even if Goodwin/Byrd poaches a few of those targets.
Jan 19, 2021
Could see role expands
Mooney (ankle) appears locked in as a key part of the Bears offense, while the rest of the wideout group is in flux, ESPN.com's Jeff Dickerson reports.
ANALYSIS
It'll be an interesting offseason in Chicago with WR Allen Robinson and QB Mitchell Trubisky both scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in March. That leaves Mooney, RB David Montgomery and TE Cole Kmet locked in as building blocks at the skill positions, whereas Anthony Miller, Jimmy Graham and Javon Wims are on shakier footing. Mooney finished his rookie year with 61 catches for 631 yards and four touchdowns on 98 targets, playing 73 percent of Chicago's offensive snaps. The workload was surprisingly large for a fifth-round pick, and his subpar efficiency stats -- 62.2 percent catch rate, 10.3 YPR, 6.4 YPT -- were bogged down by Trubisky and Foles' poor accuracy on deep throws. Mooney had his best game of the season Week 17, but he injured his ankle in the process and wasn't able to suit up for the playoff loss to New Orleans. He should have plenty of time to recover from his injury before the Bears' offseason program starts up in April/May. It remains to be seen whether Trubisky, Foles or someone el
Jan 9, 2021
Ruled out for Sunday
Mooney (ankle) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Saints, Adam Hoge of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney never managed to practice all week, but it's still a tough blow to a Bears offense that targeted the rookie fifth-round pick 13 times in last week's loss to the Packers. Anthony Miller and Javon Wims will be expected to shoulder some of the additional snaps in Mooney's absence.
Jan 8, 2021
Status in question for Sunday
Mooney (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's wild-card game in New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
In the midst of a career performance Week 17 against the Packers -- 11 catches for 93 yards on 13 targets -- Mooney required assistance to get off the field in the fourth quarter. He hasn't logged any activity since injuring his ankle, but at least the Bears haven't ruled out the possibility of the rookie fifth-rounder suiting up this weekend. At the latest, the team will make a call on Mooney's availability about 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:40 p.m. ET kickoff.
Jan 7, 2021
Not practicing yet
Mooney (ankle) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Mooney injured his ankle near the end of the Bears' Week 17 loss to the Packers. The issue has kept him off the practice field this week so far, but he has one more session to prove his health ahead of Sunday's 4:40 p.m. ET kickoff in New Orleans. If he's able to suit up, Mooney previously put up a 5-69-1 line on six targets against the Saints back in Week 8.
Jan 6, 2021
Listed as DNP
Mooney (ankle) is listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's injury report, Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Wednesday report is an estimate, as the Bears held a walkthrough instead of a regular practice. Mooney had career highs for catches, yards and targets in the Week 17 loss to Green Bay, putting up 11/93/0 before an ankle injury knocked him out of the game in the fourth quarter. Javon Wims picked up most of Mooney's vacated snaps, but Anthony Miller could also get more work if the rookie isn't available for the playoff game in New Orleans on Sunday.
Jan 3, 2021
Injured amid breakout game
Mooney (ankle) will not return to Sunday's game against the Packers, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was leading the Bears receivers before being forced out of Sunday's divisional matchup in the fourth quarter. Prior to injuring his ankle, the rookie fifth-round pick had secured 11 of 13 targets for 93 yards.
Dec 27, 2020
Targeted seven times in win
Mooney caught four passes for 39 yards and added a two-yard rush in Chicago's 41-17 victory over the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Although Mooney was second on the team with seven targets, he was unable to turn any of his chances into a big play, and on the one play that he was targeted deep for potential big play, Mitch Trubisky overthrew the pass. Although he scored in each of the last two games coming into this contest, he's failed to reach 50 yards in any of his last seven games, making him a low-upside fantasy option in Week 17 against the Packers.
Dec 20, 2020
Leads team in targets
Mooney caught four passes for 49 yards and a touchdown while adding a 16-yard rush in the Bears' 33-27 victory over the Vikings on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney scored his touchdown early in this contest, but with the Bears leading throughout, the team attempted just 21 passes, potentially keeping him from posting a bigger fantasy performance. Although he's scored in each of his last two games, he's failed to reach 50 receiving yards in any of his last six games, making him a risky fantasy option in Week 16 despite facing a weak Jacksonville defense that has a depleted secondary.
Dec 13, 2020
Scores third touchdown of season
Mooney caught two passes for 22 yards and a touchdown while adding a five-yard run in Chicago's 36-7 victory over the Texans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
With Allen Robinson and the tight ends soaking up the majority of targets, Mooney made the most of his three touches, as he found the end zone for the first time in five games. He's only surpassed 43 yards twice this season, making him a low-upside option during the fantasy playoffs.
Dec 13, 2020
In lineup for Week 14
Mooney is active for Sunday's matchup against the Bears, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Though the 23-year-old will suit up for Week 14, it's notable that he was unable to practice all week because of a personal matter. Javon Wims and Riley Ridley are both active for the cross-conference showdown with Houston, meaning Mooney may have to contend for offensive looks. He's attracted 15 targets the past two weeks, but there are signals indicating he may be in line for a lighter workload against Dallas. Ridley (coach's decision) was not active Week 13 for a road trip to Miami.
Dec 11, 2020
Expected to play
Coach Matt Nagy said he "feels good" about Mooney's chances to play in Sunday's game against Houston, even though the wideout missed practice all week to attend to a personal issue, Adam Hoge of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite missing three practices in a row, Mooney isn't listed as questionable, doubtful or out on the Bears' final injury report. It seems the team expects him to play, but we may not know for sure until Sunday morning.
Dec 10, 2020
Misses another practice
Mooney (personal) did not practice Thursday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Mooney has now missed two straight practices due to personal reasons, potentially putting his availability for Week 14 in jeopardy. As long as the rookie wideout can get back on the field Friday, though, he should be good for Sunday's game against the Texans.
Dec 9, 2020
Away from team
Mooney missed Wednesday's practice due to personal reasons.
ANALYSIS
The specifics of the absence remain unclear, as Mooney was away from the team dealing to personal matters. The rookie out of Tulane has been a steady target for the Bears' quarterbacks, racking up 40 catches for 428 yards and two touchdowns through 12 games this campaign. The length of his absence is also uncertain, but it's still too early to panic on his chances to play in Week 14.
Dec 6, 2020
Targeted six times in defeat
Mooney caught four passes for 43 yards in Chicago's 34-30 loss to the Lions on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
With the Bears leading for the majority this contest, they had no need to aggressively attack the Detroit defense with Mooney's downfield ability, keeping him from taking advantage of a secondary that was missing two of their top three cornerbacks. On the season, he's only surpassed 43 yards on two occasions while failing to reach 70 yards in any contest, making it unlikely that he'll provide fantasy managers with much upside in the fantasy playoffs.
Dec 6, 2020
Will face Lions
Mooney (knee) is active for Sunday's matchup against Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was a late addition to the Bears' injury report this week, sitting out Friday's practice after experiencing no restrictions Wednesday or Thursday. Coach Matt Nagy provided reassurance soon thereafter, noting the receiver's absence as a precautionary measure. The 23-year-old will, indeed, make his 12th appearance of the season during Week 13. He's amassed nine-plus targets in two of his past three games.
Dec 6, 2020
Remains on track for Sunday
Mooney (knee), who is listed as questionable, is expected to play Sunday versus the Lions, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 23-year-old was a late addition to the injury report Friday with the knee issue and didn't practice, but he appears to be progressing well halfway through the weekend. Coach Matt Nagy indicated Mooney's absence from practice was a precaution, so it's not a major surprise he's still expected to suit up Sunday. Fellow wideout Allen Robinson (knee) is also likely to play, so quarterback Mitchell Trubisky should have his full complement of weapons in the passing game for the divisional matchup.
Dec 4, 2020
Questionable, but should play
Mooney is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Lions with a knee injury.
ANALYSIS
A late addition to the Bears' injury report, Mooney didn't practice in any capacity Friday, but head coach Matt Nagy said after that the rookie was withheld from the session as a precaution, according to Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site. Nagy said he expects Mooney to play this weekend, but the coach didn't speak about the potential availability of fellow starting wideout Allen Robinson (knee), who is also being listed as questionable after practicing in a limited fashion Friday. After drawing nine targets in the Bears' Week 12 loss to the Bears, Mooney could again be busy against a suspect Detroit secondary Week 13, particularly if Robinson is sidelined or limited during the contest.

Nine targets in defeat
Mooney caught three passes for 34 yards in the Bears' 41-25 loss of the Packers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney was second on the team with nine targets, but whenever Mitchell Trubisky tried to connect with him downfield, the duo couldn't seem to get on the same page. On the season, he's posted between 34 and 69 yards in all but three games, and he'll likely continue to be a low-upside fantasy option.

Quiet in losing effort
Mooney caught two passes for three yards in the Bears' 19-13 loss to the Vikings on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Whenever the Bears were in obvious-passing situations, which was often, the Vikings blitzed relentlessly, which basically eliminated any potential for a downfield passing attack, and as a result, Mooney was a non-factor while seeing a pair of screen passes. He's now been held to fewer than 36 yards for the third time this season, though his typical target volume makes him a potential flex option in weekly lineups.

Leads team in targets
Mooney caught five passes for 43 yards in the Chicago's 24-17 loss to the Titans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
With Chicago falling behind by double digits in the first half, the team mostly abandoned the run, leading to 11 targets for Mooney, though with the Bears missing multiple starting offensive linemen, Nick Foles had little time to target Mooney deep downfield, keeping the receiver's yardage total in check. He's posted at least 40 yards in three straight games, and he's a player who can be considered as a solid flex option in most fantasy leagues.

Posts highest yardage total of season
Mooney caught five passes for 69 yards and a touchdown in Chicago's 26-23 overtime loss to the Saints on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
After being targeted on numerous deep passes throughout the season, Nick Foles used a play-action fake to slow the pass rush while connecting on a 50-yard pass to Mooney. He later cemented his fantasy day by catching a touchdown pass in the red zone to account for his second score of the season. Mooney's now been targeted at least five times in six straight games, and he's quickly becoming a solid fantasy depth option.

Leads team in targets
Mooney caught three passes for 40 yards in Chicago's 24-10 loss to the Rams on Monday.
ANALYSIS
With the Bears trailing for most of the game, Mooney saw three deep passes, but he was unable to haul any of them in. He actually was open for a potential 95-yard touchdown, but Nick Foles was under heavy pressure and he was unable to get the ball out on time. Even though the production hasn't been impressive during his rookie season, Mooney is averaging 6.5 targets over his last four games, and if he can get on the same page with his quarterback, he could see an increase in fantasy value as the season progresses.

Targeted five times in win
Mooney caught three passes for 36 yards in the Bears' 23-16 victory over the Panthers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mooney continues to be the second -most utilized receiver on the Bears after Allen Robinson, but he's only surpassed 36 yards in one game. Until he begins to show a bit more consistency, he'll continue to be a depth option for fantasy managers.
Oct 8, 2020
Targeted five times in victory
Mooney caught two passes for 15 yards in the Bears' 20-19 win over the Buccaneers on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
In the first half, Mooney ran a great route and was wide open for a potential touchdown, but Nick Foles threw an uncatchable pass, keeping the rookie from a big performance. In addition, Mooney saw a couple other deep targets, but neither of the passes were particularly close to being completed. Regardless, he's been playing the second-most snaps of the Chicago receivers, and he's been targeted at least five times in each of the last three games, and he could see his fantasy value grow as the season goes forward.

Ready to rock
Mooney (shoulder) is officially active for Thursday's matchup against Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Mooney came into the contest questionable despite suiting up as a full practice participant throughout the week, so this news isn't surprising. The rookie is coming off a career-high five catches and 52 yards across nine targets in last week's loss to the Colts. Mooney will continue his role as the team's punt return man and piece of the offense, as he's averaging 5.7 targets per game this season.

Technically considered questionable
Mooney (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against Tampa Bay, despite being listed as a full practice participant each day this week.
ANALYSIS
The Bears presumably would list Mooney as 'probable' if the designation still existed. The rookie wideout should be available Thursday night, coming off season highs for targets (nine), catches (five) and yards (52) in Sunday's 19-11 loss to the Colts. Mooney landed between 60 and 74 percent snap share the past three weeks, averaging 5.7 targets per game in the process.

Career-high in targets and yards
Mooney caught five passes for 52 yards in the Bears' 19-11 loss to the Colts on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
With Nick Foles getting his first start as the Chicago quarterback, it was clear that the coaching staff wanted to use Mooney as a downfield threat, and although he had an impressive 33-yard reception, he was also targeted deep on two other occasions, but in each case, the pass was uncatchable. Since the start of the season, he's seen the most wide receiver snaps on the team after Allen Robinson, and there's a chance that the increased volume he seen the last two weeks could lead to the rookie breaking out soon.

Targeted five times
Mooney caught two passes for 19 yards in Chicago's 30-26 victory over the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
After posting at least 36 yards in each of his first two games, Mooney actually saw a season-high five targets, but he also posted his lowest yardage total of the season. Despite his low yardage total in this contest, his target volume makes him a player who can be considered as a possible flex option.

Scores first career touchdown
Mooney caught all three of his targets for 36 yards and a touchdown in Chicago's 17-13 victory over the Giants on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
With Ted Ginn a healthy scratch, Mooney again saw significant work as an outside receiver, and it's beginning to look as if the rookie will have a prominent role in the offense. He was fortunate on his touchdown reception, as Mitchell Trubisky threw the ball across the field, and Mooney was able to secure the football just before the defender could make a play. He's been targeted three times while posting over 35 yards in each contest to start the season, and he's frequently seeing single coverage playing across the field from Allen Robinson, which will give him a chance to post regular production. At this point, he's a player that fantasy managers should consider adding to rosters as a depth piece in the hopes he can boost his target volume in the upcoming weeks.

Impressive debut
Mooney caught all three of his targets for 38 yards in Chicago's 27-23 victory over the Lions on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
With Chicago trailing by multiple scores throughout the second half, Mooney saw regular work in three-receiver sets, and he ended the day as the team's third leading receiver. Based on this solid performance, he's a player that fantasy managers may consider adding to their benches with the hopes of streaming him in games that the Bears are likely to throw the ball often.
