Just one catch Sunday
Njoku brought in one of two targets for seven yards in Sunday's 23-16 loss to Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Njoku took a back seat to rookie tight end Harold Fannin -- as has been the case on numerous occasions this season -- resulting in the veteran's lowest reception total this season while tying his previous low in targets. The 31-year-old Njoku failed to extend his scoring streak to three games, highlighting how touchdown-dependent of an asset he has become following Fannin's emergence. Managers relying on Njoku will hope he gets back to his scoring ways against the Raiders next Sunday.
Nov 9, 2025
Finds paydirt in Week 10 loss
Njoku caught both of his targets for 21 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's nine-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter was his third touchdown in Njoku's last four games. He remains a touchdown-dependent fantasy option due to the emergence of rookie tight end Harold Fannin (hamstring), who had four catches for 44 yards Sunday. Up next for Njoku and the Browns is a Week 11 home game against the Ravens.

Top TE duo available for Browns
Njoku's fellow tight end Harold Fannin (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Jets, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Fannin missed practice Thursday but returned to a limited session Friday before being deemed 'questionable' for Sunday's contest. With his availablity confirmed, the Browns will have their top two tight ends available versus New York, a time-share that has kept both players on the fantasy radar. In eight games, Fannin leads his team in catches (38) and receiving yards (352) on 51 targets, to go along with two touchdowns, while Njoku has recorded 27 catches for 260 yards (second on the Browns in both categories) on 41 targets, with a pair of TDs in seven contests.
Nov 7, 2025
Could benefit from injury
Njoku could benefit from an injury to tight end Harold Fannin (hamstring), who was added to Cleveland's injury report Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Following a healthy session Wednesday, Fannin sat out Thursday's practice, which is something to monitor in the days leading up to Sunday's game against the Jets. Njoku and Fannin have been the leading targets for rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, whose 4.9 yards per attempt is among the lowest in the league. In three games with Gabriel under center, Njoku has averaged seven targets, recorded six of his seven red-zone targets this season, and scored two touchdowns. While the Browns might tilt toward its running game against New York's suspect rush defense, which became weaker following the trade deadline, the theme coming out of practice this week has been about using the ground game to enhance the passing attack. Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, who was named the team's new play caller Monday, was the tight ends coach in 2024, which could factor into his approach. One other bit of news regarding Njoku, The Athletic's Zac Jackson speculates that by not trading Njoku, who is in the final year of his contract

Potential trade candidate
Njoku could be traded ahead of the NFL trade deadline, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal speculates.
ANALYSIS
Week 9 is the Browns' bye week, which is typically a time when teams -- especially two-win clubs with the 30th ranked offense (15.8 ppg) -- reassess, evaluate and potentially make changes. There are signs that point to Njoku being a possible trade candidate before the Nov. 4 deadline. That he's in the final year of a contract is the most glaring. Other clues include the team claiming a tight end (Brenden Bates) and signing one to its practice squad (Caden Prieskorn) on Monday. It was also noteworthy that backup TE Harold Fannin (40 snaps) was allotted more playing time than Njoku (32) in Sunday's loss to New England. Njoku is coming off a productive Week 8, when he caught four of five targets for 37 yards and a touchdown, which could spark interest from potential trade partners.
Oct 26, 2025
Finds end zone against Pats
Njoku caught four of five targets for 37 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 32-13 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
After missing last week's game with a knee issue, Njoku returned to action and made a splash with an 11-yard TD catch from Dillon Gabriel in the fourth quarter. The veteran also saw rookie Harold Fannin hit paydirt as well, and the duo have emerged as Gabriel's most reliable options, at the expense of the team's wideouts. Njoku will rest up on the Browns' Week 9 bye before facing the Jets in Week 10.
Oct 26, 2025
Active for Sunday's game
Njoku (knee) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
After being inactive for the Browns' Week 7 win over the Dolphins, Njoku logged limited practices Wednesday through Friday before being deemed questionable for Sunday's contest. In his return to action, barring any limitations or in-game setbacks, Njoku should see his share of snaps and targets alongside fellow TE Harold Fannin. Despite missing last weekend's game, Njoku is second on his team with 23 catches (for 223 yards and a touchdown on 36 targets), trailing only Fannin (32 catches on 43 targets for 290 yards and a TD) in that category.
Oct 24, 2025
Questionable for Week 8
Njoku (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram, coach Kevin Stefanski noted Friday that Njoku has worked very hard, while pushing through his injury rehab, and has looked like himself in the process. That said, it's possible that the Browns could proceed cautiously with the tight end -- who was inactive in Week 7 -- while Njoku's Week 8 status is set to be confirmed, either way, ahead of the first wave of games Sunday, with a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff on tap. If he's limited or out versus New England, fellow TE Harold Fannin would remain busy, with Blake Whiteheart also on hand to mix in.
Oct 23, 2025
Limited in practice again
Njoku (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has now logged back-to-back limited practices to open Week 8 preparation, with head coach Kevin Stefanski having called the veteran tight end both "day-to-day" and "hopeful" to suit up Sunday on the road against New England. Unless Njoku is able to upgrade full practice activity Friday it sounds as though he'll carry an injury designation into the weekend. He sat out Cleveland's win over the Dolphins in Week 7 due to a knee injury sustained during the team's loss to Pittsburgh in Week 6.
Oct 22, 2025
Officially limited Wednesday
Njoku (knee) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku returned to practice Wednesday after having missed Cleveland's win over the Dolphins in Week 7. Coach Kevin Stefanski reiterated that Njoku remains "day-to-day" but that he's "hopeful" the tight end will be able to retake the field versus the Patriots on Sunday. With that in mind, if Njoku is able to resume practicing in full Thursday and/or Friday, he'll have a solid chance to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.
Oct 22, 2025
Practicing Wednesday
Njoku (knee) is in line to return to practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku seems to have a fair chance at returning to action Sunday on the road against New England, after coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that he remains "day-to-day." The veteran tight end is recovering from a knee injury sustained Week 6, and he didn't practice at all prior to being ruled out for Week 7. As such, he might need to resume practicing in full before being cleared to return to the lineup.
Oct 20, 2025
Still day-to-day
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Njoku (knee) remains day-to-day, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku missed three straight practices before being ruled out for Cleveland's win over the Dolphins in Week 7. He'll almost certainly need to retake the field as at least a limited participant before returning to the lineup, meaning Njoku's status at practice will have to be monitored ahead of Sunday's road matchup against the Patriots. Rookie Harold Fannin will continue benefiting from an increased workload until Njoku returns to action.
Oct 17, 2025
Ruled out this week
Njoku (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
With Njoku out, look for fellow TE Harold Fannin to be busy Sunday, with Blake Whiteheart on hand to mix in and Sal Cannella a possible practice squad elevation for Week 7. Njoku's next chance to see game action will be Oct. 26 against the Patriots.
Oct 16, 2025
Absent from practice again
Njoku (knee) is not participating in the portion of Thursday's practice open to the media, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku appears to be missing a second consecutive practice due to the knee injury he suffered during Cleveland's loss to the Steelers in Week 6, which bodes poorly for his odds of being able to suit up at home against the Dolphins on Sunday even though the issue isn't considered long-term. Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports that Njoku is one of Cleveland's top candidates to be moved ahead of the Nov. 4 trade deadline, which could motivate the team to be extra cautious with the tight end's health. If Njoku indeed can't go Week 7, rookie third-round pick Harold Fannin will benefit from increased target opportunities at the tight end position.
Oct 16, 2025
Likely trade candidate
Njoku (knee) is among several members of the Browns that could be moved before the NFL trade deadline, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
At 1-5 and seemingly in a transition season, Cleveland could be an active seller leading up the NFL trade deadline Nov. 4. Njoku's knee injury, which forced him to sit out Wednesday's practice, is not expected to keep him out for a significant period of time. That means the injury may not hinder the team's ability to trade him. The tight end is in the final year of his contract, which makes him attractive to potential suitors. Harold Fannin, a third-round draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, has been on the field nearly as much as Njoku and would take on a greater role if the latter is traded.
Oct 15, 2025
Missing practice Wednesday
Njoku (knee) is not slated to practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku is in line to miss Wednesday's practice due to the knee injury that forced him to leave Sunday's 23-9 loss to the Steelers early. Coach Kevin Stefanski said the tight end is "truly day-to-day," per Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal. Njoku will almost certainly need to resume practicing on at least a limited basis Thursday and/or Friday, and if he's unable to suit up in time to face the Dolphins in Week 7, rookie Harold Fannin -- who led the Browns in receptions and yards versus Pittsburgh -- will again benefit from increased target opportunities.
Oct 12, 2025
Hurts knee Sunday
Coach Kevin Stefanski said after Sunday's 23-9 loss to the Steelers that Njoku was forced out of the contest with a knee injury, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns initially reported that Njoku was dealing with a thigh issue. Either way, the tight end's status will need to be monitored ahead of next weekend's game against the Dolphins. In the event that Njoku is sidelined further, Harold Fannin would be in line to see added TE targets, with Blake Whiteheart mixing in as well.
Oct 12, 2025
Exits Sunday's game
Njoku was forced out of Sunday's game against the Steelers with a thigh injury.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit, Njoku caught three of his six targets for 28 yards. In his absence, Harold Fannin will lead the Browns' TE corps versus Pittsburgh, with Blake Whiteheart available to mix in.
Oct 5, 2025
Shows rapport with Gabriel
Njoku recorded six receptions on nine targets for 67 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-17 loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was Dillon Gabriel's favorite pass catcher, as Njoku led the team in targets, receptions and yards. His biggest contribution was a nine-yard touchdown catch late in the third quarter -- his first of the season -- and he also chipped in an impressive leaping catch just before halftime that went for 17 yards. This was by far Njoku's most productive performance of the season and was a positive first showing with Gabriel.
Oct 1, 2025
Limited Wednesday
Njoku (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku also opened Week 4 as a limited participant in practice before upgrading to full reps in time to suit up for Cleveland's 34-10 loss to Detroit, in which he secured two of three targets for 11 yards. He'll work to reprise a similar practice pattern and gain clearance for Sunday's matchup against the Vikings in London. Njoku and Harold Fannin have consistently split pass-catching reps at the tight end position this season, resulting in reduced fantasy value for both players. It's possible, at least, that the Browns' decision to bench Joe Flacco in favor of rookie Dillon Gabriel provides a spark on offense.
Sep 28, 2025
Held in check in Week 4
Njoku brought in two of three targets for 11 yards in the Browns' 34-10 loss to the Lions on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Joe Flacco completed less than half his 34 pass attempts and was consistently harassed by the Lions' defense, so Njoku's modest numbers weren't necessarily unexpected. The veteran tight end continues to split pass-catching opportunities with rookie position mate Harold Fannin, who saw double the number of targets Sunday. Njoku's totals were season lows across the board, leaving him to try and bounce back against a capable Vikings defense in a Week 5 matchup in London.
Sep 25, 2025
Upgrades to full practice Thursday
Njoku (knee) upgraded to a full practice Thursday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was limited in Wednesday's session, but his return to full work puts him on track to play Sunday against the Lions. Njoku has turned 18 targets into a 12-117-0 receiving line on 81 percent of the offensive snaps through three games this season.
Sep 24, 2025
Logs limited practice
Njoku (knee) was limited at practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku logged a 76 percent snap share while catching five of his seven targets for 40 yards in the Browns' 13-10 win over Green Bay in Week 3, while fellow TE Harold Fannin was on the field for 64 percent of the team's snaps on offense en route to recording a 3-25-0 receiving line on four targets. It's possible that Njoku's listed limitations Wednesday were maintenance-related, but his presence on Cleveland's initial Week 4 injury report makes his status worth monitoring ahead of Sunday's game against the Lions, nonetheless
Sep 21, 2025
Solid afternoon in win
Njoku secured five of seven targets of 40 yards in the Browns' 13-10 win over the Packers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku led the Browns across the board in receptions, receiving yards and targets in the narrow upset loss. The veteran tight end was productive relative to how quiet a day it was overall for Cleveland's passing attack, and Njoku encouragingly retains a steady role for the time being despite the clear talent and readiness of rookie position mate Harold Fannin. Njoku will take a 12-117-0 line on 18 targets into a Week 4 road matchup against the Lions.
Sep 14, 2025
Four catches in Week 2 loss
Njoku brought in four of five targets for 40 yards in the Browns' 41-17 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku tied for second in receptions and finished third in receiving yards on the afternoon for the Browns. Fellow tight end Harold Fannin still outpaced Njoku by one catch and eight receiving yards, however, although both players saw the same number of targets. It appears clear each will retain meaningful roles in the offense for the time being, and Njoku will head into a Week 3 home matchup against the Packers with a 7-77-0 receiving line on 11 targets.
Sep 7, 2025
Overshadowed by Fannin
Njoku recorded three receptions on six targets for 37 yards in Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was projected to be Joe Flacco's second target behind Jerry Jeudy, but he was overshadowed by several Browns' pass catchers. The most notable was rookie tight end Harold Fannin, who drew rave reviews during the preseason and carried that into the regular season with nine targets. It's likely that Njoku retakes a larger role in the offense moving forward, but Flacco's distribution of targets in Week 1 was concerning.
Jun 12, 2025
On field for minicamp
Njoku (knee) has been an active participant at Cleveland's mandatory minicamp, which concludes Thursday, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku missed the final two regular-season games of the 2024 campaign due to a knee injury and then skipped voluntary OTAs, but his participation at minicamp finally provides confirmation that he's fully healthy. The 2017 first-round pick, who turns 29 in July, figures to be extra motivated as he heads into a contract year, and with the Browns having added some competition for routes in the form of third-round rookie TE Harold Fannin, who led the FBS in terms of catches in 2024. Njoku is no stranger to underwhelming quarterback play, but as Cleveland prepares for a year in which all of Deshaun Watson (Achilles), Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders have conceivable paths to the starting lineup, it looks inevitable that he again is faced with overcoming a tumultuous situation under center.
Apr 28, 2025
May lose routes to rookie?
Njoku will be joined in Cleveland's TE room by No. 67 overall pick Harold Fannin.
ANALYSIS
Fannin is a unique prospect, lacking ideal size (6-foot-3, 241 pounds) and speed (4.71 40) but still attracting plenty of NFL interest thanks to his FBS-leading 117 receptions at Bowling Green last season. Njoku is bigger, faster, stronger and a better blocker, but Fannin may ultimately push for some passing-down snaps in single-TE formations if he runs crisp routes and is quick to learn the offense. It's a comparable situation to the one in Baltimore with Isaiah Likely, who also put up huge numbers at a mediocre college program, and notably didn't have much impact on Mark Andrews' role until their third season playing together. Of course, Njoku isn't held in the same regard as Andrews, and the Browns may take more of an interest in developing young players during a likely rebuilding year than the Ravens did while trying to win a Super Bowl. Meanwhile, there hasn't been any update on the knee injury that held Njoku out for the final two games of last season. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as it might jus
Jan 3, 2025
Placed on IR
Njoku (knee) has been placed on IR by the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was already ruled out for the Browns' season finale, so the tight end will now focus on moving past the knee injury that also sidelined him in Week 17. When available, Njoku was a viable fantasy option in 2024, having recorded a 64/505/5 receiving line on 97 targets through 11 games played. The 28-year-old is under contract with Cleveland in 2025 and is thus slated to reprise his starting role for the team next season.
Jan 2, 2025
Won't play Saturday
Njoku (knee) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Ravens, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
With Njoku ruled out for the Browns' season finale, Jordan Akins is in line to lead the team's tight end corps in Week 18. Njoku -- who remains under contract with Cleveland in 2025 -- thus finishes the 2024 regular season with a 64/505/5 receiving line on 97 targets in 11 games.
Jan 2, 2025
Still not practicing
Njoku (knee) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
After being estimated as a non-participant in Tuesday's walk-through, Njoku's absence from practice both Wednesday and Thursday clouds his status for Saturday's season finale against the Ravens. If the tight end is sidelined this weekend, Jordan Akins would be in line to see an expanded role in Week 18.
Jan 1, 2025
Misses practice Wednesday
Njoku (knee) isn't practicing Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was estimated as a non-participant in Tuesday's walk-through practice, so following Wednesday's absence, what the tight end is able to do Thursday figures to be pivotal with regard to his availability for Saturday's game against the Ravens. If Njoku remains sidelined this weekend, Jordan Akins would once again be in line to see added TE reps for the Browns in Week 18.
Dec 31, 2024
Fails to practice Tuesday
Njoku (knee) was listed as a non-participant for Tuesday's walk-through practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku sat out the Browns' Week 17 loss to the Dolphins with the knee injury, and his absence from practice to begin Week 18 prep doesn't inspire much early confidence in his chances of suiting up in Saturday's season finale versus the Ravens. Even if Njoku gets the green light to play Saturday, his snap count could be monitored carefully, and his fantasy prospects will likely be further hindered by the Browns using either or both of Dorian Thompson-Robinson (calf) and Bailey Zappe at quarterback.
Dec 27, 2024
Won't suit up against Dolphins
Njoku (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku failed to practice throughout the week after sustaining a knee injury during Cleveland's 24-6 loss to the Bengals in Week 16. Jordan Akins will fill in atop the tight end depth chart in what will be Njoku's fifth absence of the season. Njoku will have a chance to return against the Ravens in Week 18, but the Browns have little incentive to rush his return since Cleveland has long been eliminated from postseason contention.
Dec 27, 2024
Still not practicing
Njoku (knee) remained sidelined at practice Friday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
With Njoku on track to log a third straight 'DNP' listing, the tight end is trending in the wrong direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Friday's final injury report will reveal whether Njoku has a chance to play this weekend, but if he's ruled out, Jordan Akins would step into an expanded role in Week 17.
Dec 26, 2024
Not practicing Thursday
Njoku (knee) wasn't spotted at practice Thursday, Ashley Bastock of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's practice estimate, with the tight end's absence from Thursday's session putting the focus on what, if anything, he's able to do on Friday. If Njoku is limited or out versus the Dolphins on Sunday, Jordan Akins would be in line to see an expanded role in Cleveland's Week 17 offense.
Dec 25, 2024
Listed as 'DNP' on practice estimate
Njoku (knee) was deemed a non-participant on Wednesday's practice estimate, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Oyefusi, head coach Kevin Stefanski said that as of Monday he wasn't ruling out Njoku (who underwent an MRI on his knee) for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Look for added context regarding the tight end's Week 17 status to arrive once the Browns return to practice Thursday.
Dec 23, 2024
Undergoing MRI on knee
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Njoku will have an MRI to diagnose the severity of a knee injury he sustained during Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Bengals, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Stefanski declined to rule out Njoku for the Browns' upcoming home game against the Dolphins in Week 17, but if he's dealing with anything resembling a significant knee injury, the team could opt to take a cautious approach to his recovery. With a 3-12 record at the bottom of the AFC North, Cleveland's playoff hopes have long ended, and it's unclear whether Dorian Thompson-Robinson (calf) or Jameis Winston (shoulder) will be available Week 17. Jordan Akins will figure to start at tight end if Njoku misses any further time.
Dec 22, 2024
Paces pass catchers in return
Njoku secured eight of 10 targets for 66 yards in the Browns' 24-6 loss to the Bengals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Making his return from a Week 15 absence due to a hamstring injury, Njoku led all Browns pass catchers in receptions, receiving yards and targets. The veteran tight end unsurprisingly was a trusted option for second-year signal-caller Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and he's now posted at least seven catches in four of the last five games heading into a Week 17 home matchup against the Dolphins.
Dec 22, 2024
Ready to go Sunday
Njoku (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
The hamstring injury prevented Njoku from playing in last week's loss to the Chiefs, but he received the green light to play Sunday after returning to practice as a limited participant following a pair of absences to begin the week. Because he wasn't a full participant in practice at any point this week, Njoku's snaps could be managed to some degree Sunday. Even if Njoku faces no restrictions with his workload, his fantasy projection will likely take a hit with Dorian Thompson-Robinson taking over as the team's starting quarterback in place of Jameis Winston (shoulder).
Dec 20, 2024
Questionable for Sunday
Njoku (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku didn't practice either Wednesday or Thursday, but was able to return to the field for Friday's session. In terms of the tight end's status for this weekend's contest, head coach Kevin Stefanski noted Friday that Njoku is "very motivated to play. We'll see how he responds to practicing today and make the decision." Either way, with the team kicking off at 1:00 ET, Njoku's Week 16 status will be known prior to the first wave of games Sunday.
Dec 20, 2024
Back at practice
Njoku (hamstring) returned to practice Friday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, but the tight end's return to the field for Friday's session offers hope that he may be able to return to action Sunday against the Bengals. The Browns' upcoming injury report will reveal the game status of Njoku, who was inactive for last weekend's loss to the Chiefs.
Dec 19, 2024
Still not practicing
Njoku (hamstring) didn't participate in the open portion of Thursday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku missed Wednesday's practice, so what the tight end is able to do during Friday's session (if anything) will be telling with regard to his chances of returning to action Sunday against the Bengals. If Njoku remains sidelined this weekend, Jordan Akins would be in line to continue to have an expanded role in the Browns passing game.
Dec 18, 2024
Still not practicing
Njoku (hamstring) is not in line to practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
On Monday, head coach Kevin Stefanski noted that he was "hopeful" that Njoku -- who was inactive in Week 15 -- could return to action Sunday against the Bengals. However, with the tight end set to log his fourth straight 'DNP' on Wednesday, Njoku has two more chances to practice before the Browns' Week 16 game designations are posted. If he's unavailable, Jordan Akins would once again have an expanded role in Cleveland's passing game this weekend.
Dec 16, 2024
Optimism for Week 16
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that he's "hopeful" Njoku (hamstring) will be able to suit up for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stefanski offered similar availability for Cedric Tillman (concussion), as both he and Njoku were sidelined for Cleveland's 21-7 loss to the Chiefs in Week 15. After Jameis Winston was benched in favor of Dorian Thompson-Robinson versus Kansas City, however, it remains to be seen who will be under center on the road against the Bengals, even if Njoku manages to retake the field. Wednesday's first official practice report will reveal more details regarding the standout tight end's health.
Dec 15, 2024
Inactive Sunday
Njoku (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who sustained a hamstring injury during Week 14 action, didn't practice Wednesday through Friday this past week before being listed as questionable for the contest. After testing things out during warmups, the tight end will sit this one out and target a potential return to action next Sunday against the Bengals. In his absence, Jordan Akins and Blake Whiteheart will handle Cleveland's tight end duties versus Kansas City, with Akins profiling as a potential Week 15 lineup option for those in deep formats in need of a fill-in for Njoku.
Dec 14, 2024
Looking like game-time call Sunday
Njoku's playing status for Week 15 against Kansas City won't be determined until after he tests out his hamstring pre-game, and he remains questionable heading into Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku didn't practice at all this week due to a hamstring issue but still has a chance to play after being given a designation of questionable. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect to know the veteran tight end's final status until about 90 minutes prior to kickoff, though there should be time to find a replacement if he doesn't play since Cleveland's contest begins at 1 PM ET. If Njoku doesn't suit up, Jordan Akins would likely serve as the Browns' top tight end.
Dec 13, 2024
Hopes to play Sunday
Njoku, who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, said Friday that he's dealing with tightness in his calf but hopes to play this weekend, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
After coach Kevin Stefanski deemed Njoku day-to-day due to a hamstring injury Wednesday, the tight end proceeded to sit out all three Week 15 practices. The Browns are keeping the door open for Njoku to suit up this weekend, and he even noted Friday that the team will have a better idea of his status Sunday morning, implying his availability will be tied to a pregame workout. Ultimately, Cleveland will reveal whether or not Njoku will be able to play about 90 minutes before a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 13, 2024
Questionable to face Kansas City
Njoku (hamstring) will be listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com and Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram report.
ANALYSIS
Njoku didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday and also wasn't spotted at Friday's session, but the tight end evidently has a chance to suit up Sunday. Look for added context regarding his Week 15 status to arrive prior to the Browns' 1:00 ET kickoff, but heading into the weekend, Jordan Akins and Blake Whiteheart are the team's top available TE options.
Dec 13, 2024
Still not practicing
Njoku (hamstring) remained sidelined at practice Friday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku also missed practiced Wednesday and Thursday, and the tight end's continued absence Friday doesn't bode well for his chances of suiting up Sunday against the Chiefs. If Njoku is ruled out for the contest, Jordan Akins and Blake Whiteheart would be in line to see added Week 15 snaps, with Tre' McKitty and Cameron Latu representing potential practice-squad elevations.
Dec 12, 2024
Another missed practice
Njoku (hamstring) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Back-to-back absences from practice cloud Njoku's status for Sunday's game against the Chiefs, with offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey noting Thursday that if the Browns' top tight end is unavailable this weekend, the team would employ a committee approach at the position. In that scenario, Jordan Akins and Blake Whiteheart would see added Week 15 opportunities, with Tre' McKitty and Cameron Latu being potential practice squad elevations.
Dec 11, 2024
Day-to-day with hamstring injury
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Njoku (hamstring) won't practice and is considered day-to-day, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku will have two more opportunities to increase his activity level at practice head of Sunday's matchup against Kansas City. The starting tight end has scored three touchdowns in his last two appearances, with a total of 16 catches for 94 yards (on 30 targets) in those contests. If he were to miss any time, Jordan Akins would figure to start at tight end for the Browns.
Dec 8, 2024
Scores again
Njoku recorded seven receptions on 13 targets for 42 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-14 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Njoku led the Browns in targets and receptions, though he was held to short yardage for much of the game. He broke that trend with a leaping 15-yard touchdown grab midway through the fourth quarter, and he now has three touchdowns across his last two games. Njoku has also emerged as a clear favorite target of Jameis Winston, combining to command 30 targets in that same two-contest span while seeing at least nine opportunities in three of his last four contests.
Dec 3, 2024
Pair of TDs in loss
Njoku brought in nine of 17 targets for 52 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns' 41-32 loss to the Broncos on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
Njoku recorded his first touchdown since Jameis Winston's first game as a starter in Week 8 when he brought in an eight-yard grab late in the first quarter to erase an early 7-0 deficit, adding a four-yard touchdown reception to cap off an 11-play, 70-yard march late in the first half. Njoku was also the target on Winston's third and final interception of the night with 44 seconds remaining, and he led the Browns in targets with a career-high figure. The veteran tight end will look to build on his second nine-catch effort of the last three games when Cleveland faces the Steelers on the road in Week 14.
Nov 22, 2024
Modest numbers in win
Njoku brought in one of five targets for nine yards and caught a two-point conversion pass in the Browns' 24-19 win over the Steelers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's inefficient night could have been much better had he reeled in a would-be touchdown pass from Jameis Winston early in the fourth quarter that hit the veteran tight end right in the hands before slipping away. However, Njoku partly made for it with a leaping two-point conversion grab two plays later following a Winston touchdown run. Njoku's reception total tied a season low while his yardage total was his sparsest of the campaign, but he should have nowhere to go but up in a Week 13 road matchup against the Broncos on Monday night, Dec. 2 as long as the weather is better than the blizzard-like conditions Thursday's contest was primarily played in.
Nov 20, 2024
Cleared to play Thursday
Njoku (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Thursday's game against the Steelers, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns listed Njoku as a full practice participant Wednesday and should have him in his usual role Thursday night. As productive as he's been since Jameis Winston took over as the starting quarterback, Njoku faces a couple of relevant obstacles Week 12, going up against a tough Pittsburgh defense on what may be a cold, wet night in Cleveland.
Nov 19, 2024
Maintains limited practice activity
The Browns listed Njoku (knee) as a limited practice participant Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
With limited listings on the Browns' first two Week 12 injury reports, Njoku may need to upgrade to full participation Wednesday in order to avoid carrying a questionable tag into Thursday's game against the Steelers. Either way, the Browns haven't suggested that Njoku is any real danger of sitting out against Pittsburgh.
Nov 18, 2024
Listed as limited on practice report
The Browns listed Njoku as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report due to a knee injury, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland didn't hold a practice session one day after Sunday's 35-14 loss to New Orleans, but Njoku would have had his reps capped had the Browns taken the field. The Browns aren't likely to hold anything more than walk-through sessions or light practices Tuesday and Wednesday, but assuming Njoku is listed as either a limited or full participant on those days, he should be ready to play in Thursday's game against the Steelers. In the three games since Jameis Winston has taken over for Deshaun Watson (Achilles) as the Browns' starting quarterback, Njoku has strung together a 19-171-1 receiving line on 23 targets.
Nov 17, 2024
Nine grabs in Sunday's loss
Njoku caught all nine of his targets for 81 yards in Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
The tight end led the Browns in receptions, and Njoku has caught at least five passes in all three games that Jameis Winston has started for Cleveland. He's amassed a 19-171-1 line on 23 targets over that stretch, and the team's closing schedule is a promising one for TE production. Njoku will look to keep rolling in Week 12 against a Steelers defense that just allowed the duo of Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews to combine for six catches and 97 yards against it.
Nov 3, 2024
Does little with five catches
Njoku secured five of seven targets for 29 yards in the Browns' 27-10 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was third on the Browns in both receptions and targets, but that equated to very modest production yardage-wise on an afternoon where Jameis Winston was harassed by the Chargers defense to the tune of six sacks and there interceptions. Njoku does have at least five catches in four consecutive games, and he and Winston should benefit a more palatable matchup in a Week 11 visit to the Saints following a Week 10 bye.
Nov 1, 2024
Good to go for Week 9
Njoku (ankle/hand) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Some doubt over Njoku's availability crept in after he missed practice Thursday, but he's good to go for the Browns' second game with Jameis Winston as the starting quarterback. Njoku showed strong chemistry with Winston in Cleveland's 29-24 Week 8 win over the Ravens, posting five catches for 61 yards and a touchdown on seven targets. In Njoku's last five games started by a quarterback other than Deshaun Watson (Achilles), Njoku has 434 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
Nov 1, 2024
Back at practice
Njoku (ankle/hand) returned to practice Friday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku didn't practice Thursday, so his return to the field a day later bodes well for his chances of playing Sunday against the Chargers. If the tight end is able to work fully Friday, he could head into the weekend without a Week 9 injury designation.
Oct 31, 2024
Misses Thursday's practice
Njoku (ankle) missed practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku practiced fully Wednesday, so his addition to the Browns' injury report a day later is notable. As Cabot notes, the tight end dealt with an ankle issue earlier this season, but it's unclear at this stage if his absence from Thursday's session is maintenance-related or indicative of a setback. Look for added context on that front to arrive no later than Friday, when the Browns practice again.
Oct 27, 2024
Another strong performance
Njoku recorded five receptions on seven targets for 61 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 29-24 win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Njoku remained heavily involved in the offense, drawing at least seven targets for the third straight game. He did the majority of his damage against the Ravens on a pair of long grabs, the first being a 20-yard gain midway through the first quarter and the latter a 23-yard touchdown catch two quarters later. Njoku has a consistent role in the Cleveland offense and has shown improved efficiency with Jameis Winston under center, signaling the potential for a very productive second half of the season.
Oct 20, 2024
Earns 14 targets
Njoku recorded 10 receptions on 14 targets for 76 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
The Browns had three different quarterbacks in the game, but that didn't stop Njoku from drawing the second-most targets in a game for his career. The efficiency on that opportunity was understandably lacking, but Njoku did manage receptions of 15 and 13 yards while also finding the end zone on an eight-yard catch late in the game. He had been unproductive with Deshaun Watson (Achilles) under center, so Njoku could see a boost in his production moving forward -- particularly after the departure of Amari Cooper.
Oct 15, 2024
Role enhanced following trade
Njoku is expected to be a target leader for the Browns after the team traded Amari Cooper to Buffalo on Tuesday, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Cooper's departure reverberates through the wide receiver room, creating a new order on the depth chart, but don't sleep on the benefit that will accrue to Njoku. He led the Browns in targets and catches in Sunday's loss to the Eagles, his first full game of the season. In addition to Njoku's enhanced role, Jerry Jeudy steps up as the No. 1 receiver. Elijah Moore and Cedric Tillman will get more playing time, but the early read is that Njoku and Jeudy will be the primary beneficiaries of the trade.
Oct 13, 2024
Team-high five grabs in loss
Njoku caught five of seven targets for 31 yards in Sunday's 20-16 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
The tight end led the Browns in catches and targets, but the volume didn't amount to much with quarterback Deshaun Watson still not showing much of an ability to stretch the field. Coach Kevin Stefanski is sticking with Watson under center, per Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer, which could at least give Njoku a solid PPR floor as long as he can stay healthy. He'll try to build on this effort in Week 7 against the Bengals.
Oct 11, 2024
Suiting up against Eagles
Njoku (knee/ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku will suit up despite being limited in both Thursday's and Friday's practices after missing practice Wednesday. He has yet to play a full game without leaving due to injury this season, limiting Njoku to five catches for 58 yards in 2024 after he posted 81 catches for 882 yards in the 2023 regular season.
Oct 10, 2024
Returns to limited practice
Njoku (knee/ankle) was limited at practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
After not practicing Wednesday, Njoku is trending in the right right direction following his return to a limited session a day later. Friday's injury report is thus slated reveal whether the Browns' top tight end approaches Sunday's game against the Eagles with an injury designation.
Oct 10, 2024
Back at practice Thursday
Njoku (knee/ankle) is participating in Thursday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku is back at practice Thursday after having been listed as 'DNP' on Wednesday's injury report due to knee and ankle issues. A high-ankle sprain kept the standout tight end sidelined Week 2 through Week 4, but he was able to return to the field during Cleveland's loss to Washington in Week 5. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski has labeled Njoku day-to-day, so even if Njoku is only practicing in a limited capacity Thursday, that represents a notable step in the right direction. Friday's practice report will key to determining Njoku's chances of suiting up on the road at Philadelphia on Sunday.
Oct 9, 2024
Ankle added to injury report
Njoku was listed with both knee and ankle injuries on Wednesday's injury report. He did not participate.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who began the week of preparation with a knee injury sustained during Week 5's loss to the Commanders, had missed the previous three weeks due to an ankle, suggesting he may not have been 100 percent. He's day-to-day heading into a Week 6 road game in Philadelphia. If Njoku is unable to go, Jordan Akins and Geoff Swaim, newly added to the active roster from the practice squad, will see more activity.
Oct 9, 2024
DNP after being labeled DTD
Coach Kevin Stefanski labeled Njoku (knee) "day-to-day" Wednesday, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com, and Njoku didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's day-to-day label is encouraging, but he'll likely need to practice to some extent Thursday or Friday to have a realistic chance of avoiding a fourth absence in a five-game span Sunday against the Eagles. He returned from an ankle injury in Week 5 against the Commanders, but this new injury doesn't seem to be related to that one.
Oct 9, 2024
Not seen at practice
Njoku (knee) doesn't appear to be practicing Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
He wasn't listed on the pre-practice injury report, but Njoku apparently isn't on the field for the portion of practice that's open to media. He returned from an ankle injury for Sunday's 34-13 loss to Washington, only to pick up a new injury (to his knee) and play just seven snaps in the second half. Browns coach Kevin Steafnski considered Njoku day-to-day, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com.
Oct 6, 2024
Hurts knee in Week 5 loss
Njoku suffered a knee injury during Sunday's 34-13 loss to the Commanders, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku finished the game with only one catch for 14 yards on three targets, while backup Jordan Akins caught a touchdown late in the lopsided loss. Njoku had missed Cleveland's previous three games due to a high-ankle sprain. It remains to be seen if Njoku's new injury will impact his availability for Week 6 against the Eagles.
Oct 6, 2024
Active status confirmed
Njoku (ankle) is active Week 5 against the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was able to log multiple limited practices this week, setting the stage for a return from a three-game absence. Assuming no limitations, Njoku will presumably retake the role of primary tight end from Jordan Akins, who had been filling in during his absence. Though it's a small sample size, the Commanders have been tough against tight ends this season, giving up the second fewest fantasy points per game in both standard and PPR formats.
Oct 5, 2024
In line to play Sunday
Njoku (ankle) is expected to suit up against Washington in Sunday's Week 5 contest, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku missed the past three games due to a high-ankle sprain he suffered against Dallas in Week 1. He logged an LP/DNP/LP practice progression this week, though it's worth noting that the DNP on Thursday was a scheduled day off. The Browns elevated tight end Geoff Swaim from the practice squad Saturday as insurance for Njoku, and Schefter notes that the latter could be "a bit more limited" in his return, which limits his fantasy upside to an extent.
Oct 4, 2024
Questionable but hopes to play
Njoku (ankle), who is listed as questionable, said he's feeling "pretty good" and is hoping to return Sunday against the Commanders, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday and Friday, and he was unable to take the practice field Thursday. His fantasy managers are advised to have a replacement lined up for a fourth consecutive week. Jordan Akins and Blake Whiteheart have been filling in for Njoku, but Njoku is a far more accomplished pass catcher than either backup.
Oct 4, 2024
Officially questionable for Sunday
Njoku (ankle) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku will have a chance to retake the field Sunday after a three-game absence. The standout tight end returned to practice Wednesday as a limited participant then received a planned day of rest Thursday. The Browns may wait until seeing how Njoku looks in pregame workouts Sunday before making a final decision on his availability, in which case his status may not be made official until 90 minutes prior to Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. Jordan Akins and Blake Whiteheart will be available to split tight end reps again if Njoku can't go.
Oct 3, 2024
Gets planned day off
Njoku (ankle) didn't practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Cabot, Njoku's absence is a planned off day, after he returned to practice Wednesday in a limited fashion after having not taken the field in any capacity since spraining his ankle in the Week 1 loss to the Cowboys. Njoku is expected to return to practice Friday, and the Browns will wait and see on how much activity he's able to do before a determination is made on his availability for Sunday's game against the Commanders. Jordan Akins and Blake Whiteheart have been splitting the playing time at tight end during Njoku's absence.
Oct 2, 2024
Limited in return to practice
Njoku (ankle) was a limited participant Wednesday in his return to practice, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was out the past three weeks after suffering a high-ankle sprain Week 1 against the Cowboys. Coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that the Browns will need to see Njoku practice throughout the week before deciding if he's ready to play this Sunday at Washington. An upgrade to full participation Thursday and/or Friday would put Njoku on track to play.
Oct 2, 2024
Returns to practice
Njoku (ankle) returned to practice Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Njoku was expected to resume practicing this week, but Stefanski didn't comment on expectations for Sunday's game at Washington. With Njoku out the past three weeks, Jordan Akins and Blake Whiteheart split playing time at tight end.
Sep 30, 2024
To resume practicing this week
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday he expects Njoku (ankle) to get back on the practice field this week, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stefanski declined to state whether he expects Njoku to actually suit up Week 5 against the Commanders, but it's at least encouraging that the athletic tight end is on track to get back on the practice field. Njoku missed last Friday's practice before being ruled out for a third straight contest, despite having logged a limited session Thursday. Jordan Akins has handled the Browns' starting tight end gig for three consecutive games with Njoku sidelined, securing six of 10 targets for 49 yards (zero touchdowns) in that span.
Sep 27, 2024
Won't return this week
Coach Kevin Stefanski noted that Njoku (ankle) isn't slated to practice Friday and won't play Sunday against the Raiders, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Njoku in line to miss his third straight contest, Jordan Akins is slated to continue to lead the Browns' tight-end corps versus Las Vegas, while Blake Whiteheart is on hand in reserve, and Geoff Swaim as well as Cameron Latu are possible practice squad elevations. Njoku will target a potential return to action Oct. 6 against the Commanders.
Sep 26, 2024
Returns to practice Thursday
Njoku (ankle) returned to practice Thursday as a limited participant, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Cabot, Njoku was spotted in full uniform in the media-access portion of Thursday's practice and was taking part in individual work, but the Browns seemingly held the tight end out of drills. In any case, Njoku's return to the field in any fashion is a welcome sight after he hadn't practiced since Sept. 6 and missed the last two games due to a high-ankle sprain. A determination on Njoku's status for this Sunday's game in Las Vegas has yet to be made, but he'll likely need to put in a full practice Friday to at the very least avoid taking a designation into the contest.
Sep 25, 2024
Still not practicing
Njoku (ankle) isn't in line to practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has missed back-to-back contests due to a high-ankle sprain, and his status for Sunday's game against the Raiders remains uncertain at this stage. That said, the tight end is expected to get some work in as the week progresses, offering some hope that he could return to action as soon as this weekend. If, however, Njoku remains out versus Las Vegas, Jordan Akins would continue to lead the Browns' TE corps in Week 4.
Sep 23, 2024
Uncertain for Week 4
Coach Kevin Stefanski said "we'll see" Monday when asked whether Njoku (ankle) will be available Week 4 against the Raiders, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Stefanski said the Browns will have a better idea of Njoku's status Wednesday, the same day the team's first official injury report of Week 4 will be released. The standout tight end has missed back-to-back games due to a high-ankle sprain in the Browns' Week 1 loss to the Cowboys, and he hasn't yet managed to resume practicing. Jordan Akins, who caught four of seven targets for 29 yards in Sunday's 21-15 loss to the Giants, has operated as Cleveland's top tight end with Njoku out of commission.
Sep 20, 2024
Won't play Sunday
Njoku (ankle) won't play Sunday against the Giants, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku wasn't able to practice this week, and will thus miss his second straight game. In the tight end's continued absence, Jordan Akins is in line to see added snaps versus New York, while Cameron Latu, Geoff Swaim and Blake Whiteheart are potential practice-squad elevations ahead of Week 3 action.
Sep 20, 2024
Still not practicing
Njoku (ankle) remained sidelined at Friday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski acknowledged Wednesday that Njoku is unlikely to play Sunday against the Giants, so the tight end's continued absence from practice isn't surprising. Friday's injury report will reveal if Njoku heads into the weekend with any chance of suiting up for Week 3 action.
Sep 19, 2024
Sits out another practice
Njoku (ankle) isn't participating in Thursday's practice, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku hasn't practiced in any fashion since suffering a high-ankle sprain in the Browns' Week 1 loss to the Cowboys, and he looks to be trending toward a second straight missed game Sunday against the Giants. Before officially ruling him out for Week 3, the Browns will wait and see what, if anything, Njoku can do during Friday's practice.
Sep 18, 2024
Not practicing
Njoku (ankle) isn't practicing Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, after coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday morning that Njoku is unlikely to play Sunday against the Giants. Njoku injured his ankle Week 1 and didn't practice or play Week 2, leaving Jordan Akins and Blake Whiteheart to rotate at tight end in an 18-13 win over the Jaguars this past Sunday.
Sep 18, 2024
Not likely to play Sunday
Coach Kevin Stefanski noted Wednesday that Njoku (ankle) is unlikely to play Sunday against the Giants, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It remains to be seen if Njoku will be able to practice at all this week, but the tight end is trending toward missing his second straight game. If Njoku is unavailable versus the Giants, Jordan Akins would be in line to see added snaps in Week 3, while Cameron Latu, Geoff Swaim and Blake Whiteheart would be potential practice squad elevations.
Sep 18, 2024
Not in line to practice Wednesday
Njoku (ankle) isn't expected to practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Unless he ends up logging some reps Wednesday after all, Njoku will have two more chances to practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Giants. At this stage, coach Kevin Stefanski hasn't ruled out the possibility of the tight end being available this weekend after having been inactive in Week 2.
Sep 16, 2024
Not ruled out for Week 3
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Njoku (ankle), who missed Sunday's 18-13 win over Jacksonville, hasn't yet been ruled out to play Week 3 versus the Giants, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku is considered week-to-week due to an ankle injury sustained Week 1, but the starting tight end could have a chance to return as early as Sunday versus New York at home. Jordan Akins started at tight end Week 2 with Njoku inactive, but he was targeted just once in Cleveland's win over Jacksonville.
Sep 11, 2024
Won't play Sunday
Coach Kevin Stefanski noted Wednesday that Njoku (ankle) will be out Sunday against the Jaguars, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's looming absence isn't surprising, as Stefanski said Monday that the tight end is week-to-week with an ankle injury that he sustained in Week 1. For any length of time Njoku misses, fellow TE Jordan Akins is in line for added snaps and targets.
Sep 9, 2024
Labeled week-to-week
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Njoku (ankle) is week-to-week, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Stefanski declined to confirm whether Njoku suffered a high-ankle sprain during Sunday's loss to the Cowboys, per Petrak, which Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports is the fear for the Pro Bowl tight end. Jordan Akins is currently the only healthy TE on Cleveland's 53-man roster, though the team also has Cameron Latu and Blake Whiteheart on the practice squad. Being labeled week-to-week sheds serious doubt on Njoku's availability against Jacksonville on the road in Week 2, but it doesn't sound as though Stefanski intends to be immediately forthcoming with a clear recovering timetable for the explosive tight end.
Sep 8, 2024
In walking boot, tests to come
Njoku (ankle) exited the locker room in a walking boot after Sunday's 33-17 loss to the Cowboys, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com, coach Kevin Stefanski said after the game that Njoku will have more testing done Monday on the ankle injury that he suffered in the second half of Sunday's season opener. Njoku didn't return to the game after going to the locker room with trainers in the third quarter. An update on his availability for Week 2 against the Jaguars should surface after Monday's tests.
Sep 8, 2024
Goes to locker room with trainers
Njoku (ankle) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku went to the locker room with team trainers in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Cowboys, per Field Yates of ESPN. The veteran tight end went to the medical tent after taking a big hit at the end of a catch and run in the third quarter, and he gingerly made his way to the locker room shortly thereafter. Njoku had four catches on five targets for 44 yards prior to the injury.
Sep 4, 2024
Healthy heading into Week 1
Njoku (undisclosed) isn't listed on Cleveland's injury report Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's practicing without limitations and should be all systems go for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Cowboys. The 28-year-old tight end set career highs with 882 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2023, but most of that production came with quarterbacks other than Deshaun Watson, who is set to reprise the starting role under center after having recovered from a shoulder injury.
Aug 26, 2024
In line to practice Tuesday
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Njoku (undisclosed) will practice Tuesday, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has been kept off the practice field since mid-August due to soreness, and he also missed Cleveland's preseason finale on Saturday. If the standout tight end is indeed able to get back on the practice field Tuesday, it will assuage any concerns about his Week 1 availability. Njoku still has nearly two weeks to get fully healthy before the Browns' regular-season opener against the Cowboys on Sept. 8.
Aug 24, 2024
Not playing Saturday
Njoku (undisclosed) isn't slated to play in Saturday's preseason contest at Seattle, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has been dealing with some soreness since mid-August, which has kept him off the practice field in the meantime. With his lack of availability for the exhibition finale confirmed, he'll set his sights on a Week 1 matchup with the Cowboys on Sunday, Sept. 8. Over the last two campaigns with the Browns, Njoku has come on as a receiving threat with a combined 139 catches (on 203 targets) for 1,510 yards and 10 touchdowns in 30 regular-season games.
Aug 22, 2024
Remains sidelined
Njoku (undisclosed) didn't practice Wednesday, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Given that Njoku hasn't practiced since Aug. 15, it seems unlikely that he'll see action in the Browns' preseason finale against the Seahawks on Saturday. If that's the case, the focus of the team's top TE will then pivot to preparing for a Week 1 matchup against the Cowboys.
Aug 20, 2024
Still not practicing
Njoku (undisclosed) is not practicing Tuesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku hasn't returned to practice since exiting last Thursday's joint session with the Vikings early due to what was called soreness. Top wide receiver Amari Cooper (undisclosed) is also not available Tuesday, despite early indications that he was in line to return. Saturday's road exhibition matchup against the Seahawks will be Njoku's final chance to log preseason reps prior to Cleveland's regular-season opener against the Cowboys.
Aug 15, 2024
Dealing with soreness
Njoku (undisclosed) participated in one-on-one drills but took only one snap in team drills during Thursday's practice, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Afterward, coach Kevin Stefanski said that Njoku was feeling "sore." With the Browns not in line to play starters Saturday versus the Vikings, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com, the tight end's next chance to see game action will arrive Aug. 24 against the Seahawks.
Aug 3, 2024
Develops chemistry with QB
Njoku and quarterback Deshaun Watson showed off a developing connection during this week of practice, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
That connection became most notable Thursday, the Browns' first competitive practice -- offense vs. defense in full pads. The tight end used his size to snare a couple of targets, beating Grant Delpit and Juan Thornhill in one-on-one coverage. Njoku appears to be operating with confidence following a breakout 2023 campaign, which really kicked into high gear over the second half when Watson was out for the season with a shoulder injury. If the Watson-to-Njoku combination continues to develop, the Browns could make a deeper run in the playoffs.
Jul 27, 2024
Cleared for practice
Njoku (undisclosed) participated in his first training camp practice Saturday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku missed the first two days of training camp with an undisclosed injury, but the team never indicated the matter was overly serious. The big-bodied tight end is now poised to build off a stellar second half of the 2023 season where he registered 50 receptions, 598 receiving yards and four touchdowns over the Browns' final eight games including the playoffs.
Jul 25, 2024
Working on side
Njoku worked on the side during Thursday's practice with an undisclosed injury, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
There's nothing to indicate the nature of the injury or if this was merely a veteran getting an easy day. Njoku looks to build off a breakout campaign in 2023, when he had career highs in targets (123), catches (81), yards (882) and touchdowns (six). Competition for targets will be even greater in 2024 with Jerry Jeudy (leg) added to the roster.
Jan 13, 2024
Bright spot in defeat
Njoku recorded seven receptions on 11 targets for 93 yards in Saturday's 45-14 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was one of the few bright spots in Saturday's loss, as he led the team in targets and yards. His biggest contribution of the day came on a 45-yard catch late in the first quarter, which helped set up Cleveland's first touchdown. Including the last four games of the regular season, Njoku has topped 90 yards in four of his last five contests and had comfortably the most productive campaign of his career. He remains under contract with the Browns for two additional years and should play a key role in the offense in 2024.
Jan 5, 2024
Cleared for Week 18
Njoku (knee/illness) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has been cleared to play in the season finale, despite having not managed anything more than limited participation in practice this week while dealing with the illness and a knee injury. Though he's on track to be active Week 18, Njoku could end up taking on well below a full workload, as the Browns are already locked into the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs and aren't likely to overextend key players. If Njoku plays only limited snaps or sits out the game entirely, Harrison Bryant and Jordan Akins would see expanded roles at tight end.
Jan 4, 2024
Manages limited practice
Njoku (illness/knee) was listed as a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was able to handle some reps at practice Thursday, a day after he sat out the Browns' first Week 18 session entirely due to an illness, a knee injury and rest. No major health concerns are expected to prevent Njoku from playing this Sunday against the Bengals, but the Browns could still choose to rest him for all or most of the game in order to preserve his health for the postseason. The Browns are locked in as the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs, and Njoku has proven himself to be one of the team's more important players this season, especially since Joe Flacco took over as Cleveland's starting quarterback. In his five appearances with Flacco under center, Njoku has averaged six receptions, 78 receiving yards and nine targets per game while scoring four touchdowns.
Jan 3, 2024
Comes down with illness
Njoku won't practice Wednesday due to an illness, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has been on a tear over the last four games, racking up a cumulative 28-373-4 line on 39 targets during that stretch. He benefited from Amari Cooper sitting out last Thursday due to a heel injury, turning his eight targets into six catches for 134 yards. Now that Njoku is dealing with an illness, though, his status will be monitored to see if he may join a healthy Joe Flacco (coach's decision) on the sideline Sunday at Cincinnati.
Dec 28, 2023
Elite output in Week 17 win
Njoku secured six of eight targets for 134 yards in the Browns' 37-20 win over the Jets on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Njoku paced the Browns in receptions, receiving yards and targets on a night when Amari Cooper (heel) was sidelined and Elijah Moore (head) left the game just before halftime. About the only blemishes on the tight end's night, which got off on the right foot with a 36-yard reception on his first grab, was his lost fumble early in the second quarter after a 15-yard catch and the the fact he wasn't on the receiving end of any of Joe Flacco's three touchdowns. Neverthless, Njoku's production was especially valuable considering it came on championship week for many fantasy leagues, and it also left him within 118 yards of his first 1,000-yard season going into the Week 18 regular-season finale against the Bengals on Jan. 7.
Dec 24, 2023
Gets into end zone again
Njoku caught six of nine targets for 44 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 36-22 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
While the tight end's performance was overshadowed by a record-setting day from Amari Cooper, Njoku still got into the end zone for the third straight game as he was on the other end of a 21-yard strike from Joe Flacco in the second quarter. Njoku's chemistry with his new QB is undeniable, and over his three-game TD streak he's posted a 22-239-4 line on 31 targets. He'll look to keep rolling in Week 17 against the Jets.
Dec 17, 2023
Tops century mark against Chicago
Njoku caught 10 of 14 targets for 104 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Bears.
ANALYSIS
The tight end was Joe Flacco's favorite target, leading Cleveland in catches and targets, but Amari Cooper topped him in yardage with 109. Njoku also hauled in Flacco's first TD pass of the day with a two-yard grab in the first quarter. Njoku has erupted since the Browns made their switch at QB, and over the last two games he's produced an eye-popping 16-195-3 line on 22 targets. Sunday's production also put him over 700 receiving yards on the season for the first time in his career, and his 69 receptions and five touchdowns are also personal bests. Njoku will look to keep surging in Week 16 against the Texans.
Dec 10, 2023
Two scores in win
Njoku recorded six receptions on eight targets for 91 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 31-27 win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Joe Flacco took to the air 45 times, and Njoku benefitted by seeing at least eight targets for the sixth time in his last eight games. He delivered a massive performance, racking up a season-high 91 yards thanks to long receptions of 34 and 30 yards -- both of which went for touchdowns. Njoku has settled into a relatively consistent role in the Cleveland offense and should benefit from Joe Flacco remaining under center.
Dec 4, 2023
Season low production
Njoku caught two of six targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 36-19 loss to the Rams in Week 13.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's been a prominent target regardless of which quarterback is throwing the ball, but the chemistry with Joe Flacco didn't happen Sunday. While a couple of his looks were in the red zone, the tight end was held to season low in receiving yards and the two catches were his fewest since Week 1. Njoku also watched backup Harrison Bryant (five targets, TD) experience a production increase with Flacco. Cleveland's quarterback situation remains volatile heading into Week 14 against the Jaguars, and while Njoku is a top target -- third on the team with 84 -- the Browns' offense has produced just four touchdowns over the last 12 quarters.
Nov 26, 2023
Leading receiver in loss
Njoku caught six of nine targets for 59 yards in Sunday's 29-12 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
He led the Browns in catches and receiving yards while tying Elijah Moore for the lead in targets. Njoku's volume and production have stabilized over the last six weeks, in part due to working with quarterbacks who can't stretch the field the way Deshaun Watson (shoulder) can, and he's posted a 32-330-2 line on 56 targets over that stretch. Whether rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) or PJ Walker is running the offense in Week 13 against the Rams, the tight end figures to be one of the top options again in a limited Cleveland passing attack.
Nov 19, 2023
Favorite target in Cleveland
Njoku recorded seven receptions on 15 targets for 56 yards in Sunday's 13-10 win over Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Njoku quickly emerged as the favorite target of Dorian Thompson-Robinson, as he doubled the targets of any other Browns pass catcher. The entire team's passing attack came in short areas of the field, so it's little surprise that Njoku's yards-per-target and yards-per-catch marks leave plenty to be desired. However, volume alone could be enough for Njoku to be productive if Thompson-Robinson continues to look for him as a safe dump-off option.
Nov 13, 2023
Plays most of Week 10 win
Njoku caught six of nine targets (three in red zone) for 58 yards in Sunday's 33-31 win over Baltimore in Week 10.
ANALYSIS
Njoku battled a knee injury during the preparation week, but he was on the field for 68 of 78 (87 percent) offensive snaps. He once again dominated the playing time and touches at tight end, as Harrison Bryant and Jordan Akins combined for 29 snaps and two targets. After a slow start, Njoku has been prominent in the passing attack, averaging five catches and 54 yards with two touchdowns and nine red-zone targets over the last four weeks.
Nov 10, 2023
Will play against Baltimore
Njoku (knee) has no injury designation and is expected to play in Sunday's game against the Ravens, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku made progress all week, going from DNP Wednesday to limited Thursday and full Friday. He should be all systems go for Sunday, but Njoku draws a tough matchup against a Ravens defense surrendering the second-fewest fantasy points and third-fewest yards to tight ends.
Nov 9, 2023
Officially limited Thursday
Njoku (knee) was limited in Thursday's practice, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
It puts Njoku on track to play Sunday against the Ravens. Njoku has been on a bit of a heater of late, scoring a touchdown in back-to-back games after going scoreless over the first six contests.
Nov 9, 2023
Back at practice Thursday
Njoku (knee) returned to practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was DNP Wednesday and has missed multiple practices with various ailments this season. He's still managed to start all eight games and has now scored touchdowns in back-to-back games headed into Sunday's Week 10 date with the division-rival Ravens. Njoku is averaging 7.7 targets per game over his last three outings.
Nov 8, 2023
Missing practice Wednesday
Njoku (knee) won't practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku didn't practice last Wednesday due to an ankle issue, but ended up without a Week 9 injury designation before logging 56 of a possible 73 snaps in the Browns 27-0 win over the Cardinals on Sunday. While the tight end's listed injury is a new one, it's possible that his absence from Wednesday's session is maintenance-related. A return to practice Thursday by Njoku, in any capacity, would support that notion.
Nov 5, 2023
Scores TD in Week 9 win
Njoku brought in four of six targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in the Browns' 27-0 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran tight end finished second on Cleveland in receptions and targets in Deshaun Watson's return from a shoulder injury, and he added his second touchdown in as many weeks on a five-yard scoring grab in the third quarter. Njoku has been on quite the productive streak over the last three games, recording a 13-157-1 line in that span. Njoku should once again play an important role in a key Week 10 divisional road matchup against the Ravens next Sunday.
Nov 3, 2023
Good to go Week 9, as is Watson
Njoku (ankle) was a full participant in practice Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's practice participation trended in the right direction throughout the week, as he went from sitting out Wednesday to limited participation Thursday before gaining clearance for Sunday after Friday's full session. The tight end had a season-high 77 yards and a touchdown with PJ Walker under center last week against the Seahawks, but he'll be catching passes from returning starting quarterback Deshaun Watson (shoulder) against the Cardinals.
Nov 2, 2023
Back at practice Thursday
Njoku (ankle) returned to a limited practice Thursday, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku didn't practice Wednesday, but his return to a limited session a day later bodes well for his chances of being available Sunday against the Cardinals. That said, Njoku -- who caught four passes on eight targets for 77 yards and a TD in Week 8's loss to the Seahawks -- will need to practice fully Friday in order to avoid a Week 9 injury designation.
Nov 1, 2023
Managing ankle injury in Week 9
Njoku was listed as a non-participant at Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury.
ANALYSIS
Though Njoku didn't mix into drills, the tight end was present for practice and was spotted working off to the side during the portion of the session that was open to the media, according to Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram. Njoku had been managing a knee injury leading into this past Sunday's game against the Seahawks, but he proceeded to take on a relatively normal snap share (77 percent) en route to finishing with four catches for 77 yards and a touchdown on eight targets. With a new injury in tow, however, Njoku's activity in practices Thursday and Friday will warrant monitoring heading into this weekend's game against Arizona.
Oct 30, 2023
Most productive game of season
Njoku recorded four receptions on eight targets for 77 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Njoku earned his second-highest target total of the season, good for second-best on the team in Sunday's loss. He did the majority of his damage on two catches, the first of which was an 18-yard score followed by a 41-yard gain that helped set up a field goal at the close the drive. Though the Browns' offense has stagnated with PJ Walker under center, Njoku has 17 targets and nine receptions for 131 yards combined across his last two games.
Oct 27, 2023
Good to go Sunday
Njoku (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Seahawks after practicing in a limited fashion Thursday and Friday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
The tight end sat out Wednesday's practice, but in the wake of consecutive limited sessions, Njoku -- who caught five of his nine targets for a season-high 54 yards in last weekend's win over the Colts -- has been cleared for Sunday. In six games to date, Njoku has recorded a 24-216-0 receiving line on 31 targets.
Oct 26, 2023
Back in limited capacity
Njoku (knee) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has dealt with a variety of health concerns this season but still made himself available on game days, seeing at least 68 percent of snaps in all six of the Browns' contests. His output has been modest (24-216-0 on 31 targets), and after sitting out Wednesday's session this week due to a knee issue, he's on a path to being available Sunday in Seattle by returning to practice one day later. Njoku's availability for Week 8 could be confirmed as soon as the release of Friday's injury report.
Oct 26, 2023
Back at practice
Njoku (knee) was on the field Thursday for the media-access portion of practice, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku sat out the Browns' first Week 8 practice Wednesday, but by getting back on the field Thursday, he's put himself in good position to be available for Sunday's game at Seattle. The Browns will reveal whether Njoku was a limited or full participant in his return to practice when the team releases its second injury report of the week later Thursday.
Oct 25, 2023
Slated to miss practice Wednesday
Njoku (knee) isn't in line to practice Wednesday, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku logged 72 of a possible 75 snaps on offense in the Browns' 39-38 win over the Colts this past Sunday en route to catching five of his nine targets for 54 yards in the contest. With no reported setbacks in the contest, it's possible that Njoku's looming non-participation Wednesday is maintenance-related. The tight end now has two more chances to practice in advance of this weekend's game against the Seahawks.
Oct 22, 2023
Paces Cleveland in targets
Njoku recorded five receptions on nine targets for 54 yards in Sunday's 39-38 win over the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Njoku wasn't targeted until late in the second quarter when PJ Walker entered the game. He became Walker's favorite target for the rest of the game and managed a few big plays, highlighted by gains of 26 and 17 yards. Given that he recorded season-high marks in targets and yards it was a positive performance for Njoku, though the entire Cleveland offense remains in flux due to the uncertain status of Deshaun Watson (shoulder).
Oct 15, 2023
Three catches in Week 6 win
Njoku (hand) caught three of four targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 19-17 win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has yet to reach 50 yards in a game or score a touchdown this season. The veteran tight end's chances of accomplishing either of those feats would be bolstered if starting quarterback Deshaun Watson (shoulder) returns in Week 7 against the Colts following a two-game absence.
Oct 15, 2023
Suiting up, as anticipated
Njoku (hand) is active Week 6 against the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Njoku continues to tend to burns on his hands and face sustained prior to the team's Week 4 loss to Baltimore (which he played in), and he'll again take the field this week, as anticipated. He'll have to do so with his third separate quarterback of the season under center, as PJ Walker will be filling in for Deshaun Watson, who continues to tend to a shoulder injury. Further working against Njoku is the matchup, as the 49ers are allowing the eighth-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends in PPR formats.
Oct 14, 2023
Likely to play
Njoku (face/hand), officially listed as questionable, is expected to play Sunday against the 49ers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku suffered burns from an accident at his home last week but managed a limited practice session Friday. He appears to be trending in the right direction as a result, but his formal status will be unknown until roughly 90 minutes of Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
Oct 13, 2023
Listed as questionable for Sunday
Njoku (face/hand) is questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who suffered burn injuries to his face and arm during a household accident last week, missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, but was able to re-take the field Friday. With that, it appears as though the tight end is now trending in the right direction, with Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram relaying that coach Kevin Stefanski indicated Friday that he's feeling good about Njoku being available Sunday.
Oct 13, 2023
Gets back on practice field
Njoku (hand) is participating in practice Friday and is expected to be listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku is practicing for the first time this week after suffering burn injuries to his face and arm during a household accident last week. Cabot previously reported that the tight end is trending in the wrong direction for Week 6, but he hasn't yet been ruled out to take on San Francisco. In the event that Njoku is ultimately sidelined, though, Jordan Akins and Harrison Bryant will stand to work as Cleveland's top tight ends.
Oct 13, 2023
Could miss Sunday's game
Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer notes that Njoku (face/hand) is trending toward missing Sunday's game against the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who suffered burn injuries to his face and arm during a household accident last week, didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday and it appears as though the tight end is in line to be sidelined in Week 6. Njoku's status will be officially clarified once the Browns' Friday injury report is posted, but if he is unavailable this weekend, Jordan Akins and Harrison Bryant would be next up for Cleveland's TE reps versus San Francisco.
Oct 12, 2023
Idle for another practice
Njoku (hand/face) isn't participating in Thursday's practice, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
After suffering burns to his face and hand in a home accident Sept. 29, Njoku proceeded to play two days later with a protective cover on his face, recording six receptions for 46 yards on seven targets in a 28-3 loss to the Ravens. Though he had the benefit of an extra week of rest while the Browns were on bye Week 5, Njoku may still be experiencing some discomfort. With consecutive absences from practice to begin Week 6 prep, Njoku will likely need to get back on the field in some capacity Friday for both the Browns and fantasy managers to feel good about his chances of playing Sunday versus the 49ers.
Oct 11, 2023
DNP Wednesday coming out of bye
Njoku (face/hand) won't practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku suffered burns to his face and hand in late September, but he played through the injuries in the 28-3 Week 4 loss to the Ravens and registered a season-high six catches. Despite previously playing through the burns, Njoku's still bothered by them coming out of Cleveland's Week 5 bye. Among those joining Njoku on the sidelines Wednesday was quarterback Deshaun Watson (shoulder), though both key offensive starters will have two more opportunities to practice before the Browns host the 49ers on Sunday.
Oct 1, 2023
Six catches from backup QB
Njoku (arm/face) caught six of seven targets for 46 yards in Sunday's 28-3 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Njoku didn't seem negatively affected by the burns he suffered in a home accident Saturday, as he was the only player to exceed 20 receiving yards for the Browns with backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson under center in place of Deshaun Watson (shoulder). The veteran tight end set season highs in targets and catches while finishing two yards shy of his season high, but Njoku's outlook for Week 6 against the 49ers would still benefit if Watson returns following the Week 5 bye. Njoku caught two touchdowns in five games alongside Watson last season, but he's still searching for his first score of 2023.
Oct 1, 2023
Cleared to play Sunday
Njoku (arm/face) is active for Sunday's game against the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was a late addition to the injury report Saturday after he reportedly suffered burns to his arm and face during a home accident. According to Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram, Njoku was sporting a covering on the bottom of his face in pregame warmups, but wearing a helmet and uniform otherwise doesn't look to be anything that will put him in too much discomfort. The 27-year-old should be ready to handle his normal role as the Browns' top tight end, though he'll be on the receiving end of passes from rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson with regular starter Deshaun Watson (shoulder) inactive for the contest.
Oct 1, 2023
Expected to play Sunday
Njoku (arm/face) is in line to play Sunday against the Ravens,Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Russini, Njoku sustained burns on his arms and face from a fire pit accident ahead of the contest, and the team was concerned about the tight end's comfort wearing a helmet. It appears as though he'll give it a go Sunday, however, an outcome that will be confirmed either way when the Browns' inactives are posted prior to the team's 1:00 kickoff.
Sep 30, 2023
Questionable for Sunday
Njoku burned both his face and arm in a household accident and is now listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear to what level of severity the burns are that Njoku suffered, but it's likely noticeable the team didn't release any further information regarding the injury. If the veteran tight end were to miss time, expect Harrison Bryant and Jordan Akins to split the workload.
Sep 25, 2023
Targeted four times
Njoku caught four of four targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 27-3 win over the Titans in Week 3.
ANALYSIS
Njoku once again paced Cleveland's tight ends and was targeted four times for a second straight week. He's yet to have a breakout game with just 92 yards, one reception of more than 20 yards, and zero touchdowns through three games. Quarterback Deshaun Watson had his best day in a Browns' uniform but directed more than half of his throws to Elijah Moore (nine targets) and Amari Cooper (eight).
Sep 19, 2023
Serviceable fantasy effort in loss
Njoku secured all four targets for 48 yards in the Browns' 26-22 loss to the Steelers on Monday night. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Njoku finished second in receptions and receiving yards to Amari Cooper on the night, coming on in the second half after a slow start. Njoku's numbers were modest overall, but they still represented exactly double the production the veteran tight end generated in Week 1. Njoku could take on an even more important role beginning with a favorable Week 3 home matchup against the Titans now that star running back Nick Chubb is confirmed to be out for the season with a knee injury, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Sep 11, 2023
Quiet opener
Njoku caught two of three targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 24-3 win over Cincinnati in Week 1.
ANALYSIS
Njoku reportedly had a huge training camp, catching everything thrown his way, but the passing attack heavily favored the wideouts Sunday. Wide receivers gobbled up 66 percent of the targets compared to the tight ends' 21 percent. And it was backup tight end Harrison Bryant who got the red-zone-targeted touchdown in the fourth quarter. Still, Njoku (52 snaps) was the clear No. 1 among the position group, doubling the snap count of both Bryant (27) and Jordan Akins (23).
Aug 3, 2023
Sitting out Hall of Fame Game
Njoku isn't slated to play in Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Jets, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
All matter of Browns veterans aren't suiting up for the team's preseason opener, including quarterback Deshaun Watson, running back Nick Chubb and wide receivers Amari Cooper, Elijah Moore and Donovan Peoples-Jones, among others. Njoku's next chance to get some exhibition action will arrive Friday, Aug. 11 versus the Commanders.
Jul 30, 2023
Shines in camp Saturday
Njoku had his best day of training camp Saturday, Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Poisal reports Njoku making several highlight-reel grabs, including a one-handed reception, catching off-target passes and a contested catch in the end zone. He's expected to be the top tight end this season for an offense that will likely be more pass oriented than it was in 2022.
Jan 8, 2023
Closes season with touchdown
Njoku recorded four receptions on five targets for 42 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Njoku finished second on the team in both targets and receptions, behind only Nick Chubb. He hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter to tally the first score by either team in the game. With Sunday's effort, Njoku will close the 2022 season with a career-high 58 receptions despite playing in only 14 games. He'll likely continue to see a significant role in the offense in 2023, pairing with Amari Cooper and Donovan Peoples-Jones as the Browns' top pass catchers.
Jan 2, 2023
Quiet in win
Njoku caught one of three targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 24-10 win over the Commanders in Week 17.
ANALYSIS
It was a quiet volume day for the passing attack despite quarterback Deshaun Watson throwing for three touchdowns. Watson attempted just 18 throws, and Njoku had his fewest targets since Week 11. A hopeful sign for the receivers and organization is that Watson looked like the quarterback Cleveland thought it was getting in the second half. That's when he completed 6-of-10 passes for 146 yards and three TDs.
Dec 24, 2022
Two catches in loss
Njoku secured two of five targets for 14 yards in the Browns' 17-10 loss to the Saints on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku turned in a modest performance on a day that wasn't exactly conducive to the passing game, with Amari Cooper the only member of the air attack to put up fantasy-worthy numbers. The veteran tight end still managed to extend his multi-catch streak to 11 games, and he'll have a better matchup overall against the Commanders on the road in a Week 17 clash on Sunday, Jan. 1.
Dec 22, 2022
Good to go Saturday
Njoku (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation for Saturday's game against the Saints after logging a full practice listing Thursday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's practice reps were limited Tuesday and Wednesday, but the tight end's return to a full session Thursday has him ready to go for Saturday's contest. Through 11 games to date, Njoku has recorded a 51/551/3 stat line on 67 targets, a pace that keeps the 2017 first-rounder on the fantasy lineup radar this weekend, while facing a New Orleans defense that has allowed an average of 195.1 passing yards thus far.
Dec 21, 2022
Limited in practice again
Njoku (knee) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
The same was true Tuesday, with Njoku listed on the practice report ever since missing Week 13 with a knee injury. He's played 96 and 94 percent of snaps in two games since, and should get plenty of playing time this Saturday against the Saints, albeit in a game that may not have many pass attempts due to bad weather.
Dec 20, 2022
Listed as limited
Njoku (knee) is listed as a limited participant on Tuesday's practice estimate, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Two separate knee injuries have cost Njoku time this season, including a Week 13 absence, but he played 96 and 94 percent of offensive snaps the past two games en route to 10 catches for 87 yards and a touchdown on 15 targets. The workload checks out and seemingly makes him a solid TE1 for fantasy, except that the Browns offense has struggled with QB Deshaun Watson and now faces some ugly weather in Cleveland this weekend unless forecasts drastically change. Projections as of Tuesday called for the type of wind and precipitation that would make it hard to confidently start any QBs, WR or TE in the game.
Dec 17, 2022
Musters only 28 yards
Njoku recorded three catches on six targets for 28 yards in Saturday's 13-3 win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Njoku tied Amari Cooper for the team lead in targets, though he couldn't take advantage of his opportunity. His longest catch of the day went for only 13 yards, and he now has under 30 receiving yards in three of his last four games. Despite the lack of production, Njoku has racked up 25 targets in that span, a good indication that he remains heavily involved in the Cleveland offense.
Dec 15, 2022
Enters weekend without designation
Njoku (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Saturday's game against the Ravens, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, the knee issue that resulted in Njoku's reps being capped Tuesday and Wednesday won't affect his availability for Saturday. Given that he's logged a 12-88-2 receiving line on 16 through his first two games with Deshaun Watson under center, Njoku should profile as one of the top fantasy options at tight end during the Week 15 slate.
Dec 14, 2022
Limited again Wednesday
Njoku (knee) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was listed as a limited practice participant for the first two days of practice in Week 14, just as he has been so far in Week 15, yet by Friday of Week 14 Njoku was removed from the Browns injury report entirely. Particularly given that he played 67 snaps and drew nine targets in Week 14, it can likely be assumed that Njoku will be ready for a three-down workload when the Browns face Baltimore on Saturday.
Dec 13, 2022
Estimated as limited participant
The Browns listed Njoku (knee) as a limited participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland won't get back on the practice field until Wednesday, but because the team plays on Saturday in Week 15, the team had to issue its first official practice report Tuesday. Njoku may have his reps capped when the Browns actually return to the field Wednesday, but assuming he didn't suffer any setbacks with his knee during this past Sunday's loss to the Bengals, the tight end should be good to go this weekend versus the Ravens. Njoku has demonstrated an early rapport with Deshaun Watson, finishing with 12 receptions for 88 yards and two touchdowns on 16 targets since the quarterback debuted Week 13 against the Texans.
Dec 11, 2022
Finds end zone in return
Njoku caught seven of nine targets for 59 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-10 loss to the Bengals. He added one rushing attempts for minus-2 yards.
ANALYSIS
After missing the previous game due to a knee injury, Njoku showed instant chemistry with quarterback Deshaun Watson in their first game together. The pair linked up for a 13-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and Njoku's nine targets marked his second-highest total of the season. Njoku will look to build on this strong effort in Week 15 against the Ravens.
Dec 9, 2022
Good to face Bengals
Njoku (knee) isn't listed on the Week 14 injury report, so he'll be available Sunday against the Bengals, Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku will return after missing one game as a result of the injury. This will be the tight end's first game alongside quarterback Deshaun Watson, who struggled to build chemistry with any of Cleveland's pass catchers in his Week 13 team debut.
Dec 8, 2022
Practice reps limited Thursday
Njoku (knee) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out last Sunday's 27-14 win over the Texans with the knee issue, Njoku has opened Week 14 prep with a pair of limited sessions. The Browns won't decide on whether Njoku carries a designation into this weekend's game against the Bengals until after Friday's practice, but the tight end is expected to return to the lineup Sunday, per Brad Stainbrook of 247Sports.com. If Njoku puts an end to his one-game absence this weekend, he'll be playing in his first game with new starting quarterback Deshaun Watson, who returned from his 11-game suspension last week and made his season debut against Houston.
Dec 7, 2022
Looks good in limited practice
Njoku (knee) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku missed three of the past six games with two separate knee injuries but reportedly is expected to return from a one-week absence for Sunday's matchup with Cincinnati. Petrak notes that the tight end looked good at Wednesday's practice, though the Browns kept him limited rather than unleashing Njoku as a full participant. That could be coming Thursday or Friday.
Dec 6, 2022
Expected to play Sunday
Njoku (knee) is expected to practice this week and play Sunday against the Bengals, Brad Stainbrook of 247Sports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was sidelined for Week 13 due to a knee injury, marking his third absence over the past six weeks. However, the tight end is presumably feeling better and trending in the right direction to start Week 14. Nonetheless, fantasy managers should monitor Njoku's participation throughout prep to ensure he's still on track to suit up later in the week. When available, the 2017 first-round pick has been a consistent producer, totaling 41 receptions for 464 yards and two scores across nine appearances.
Dec 2, 2022
Ruled out for Week 13
Njoku (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Texans, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Njoku unavailable, Harrison Bryant and Pharaoh Brown are slated to lead the Browns' tight end corps in Week 13, with Bryant a candidate to log enough volume Sunday to merit fantasy lineup consideration. Njoku will now target a potential return to action Dec. 11 against the Bengals.
Dec 1, 2022
Misses another practice
Njoku (knee) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Back-to-back missed sessions cloud Njoku's status for Sunday's game against the Texans, but the tight end has one more chance to practice ahead of the contest. If, however, Njoku is out or limited this weekend, Harrison Bryant and Pharaoh Brown would be in line for added snaps in Week 13.
Nov 30, 2022
Dealing with knee issue
Njoku won't practice Wednesday due to a knee injury, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Petrak, head coach Kevin Stefanski said Njoku's current knee issue is different than the one that sidelined him for two games earlier this season and kept him on last week's injury report. In any case, the tight end's status is now worth monitoring ahead of Sunday's game against the Texans. If Njoku ends up sitting out this weekend or is available in a limited capacity, Harrison Bryant and Pharaoh Brown would be in line for added snaps.
Nov 27, 2022
Game-tying TD in OT win
Njoku secured five of seven targets for 29 yards and a touchdown in the Browns' 23-17 overtime win over the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's day was mostly pedestrian until he recorded an impressive 12-yard touchdown grab in the back of the end zone with 32 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. Njoku notably saw five more targets than fellow tight end Harrison Bryant, who'd taken on a larger role during his teammate's recent absence with an ankle injury. Njoku's trip to the end zone was his first since Week 3 and only his second of the season, giving him some momentum going into Deshaun Watson's debut as the starting quarterback against the Texans in Week 13.
Nov 25, 2022
Cleared for Week 12
Njoku (ankle/knee) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Even though Njoku wasn't a full practice participant at any point this week, the Browns apparently saw enough from him to conclude that neither his knee nor ankle issue would keep him off the field Sunday. That being said, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram on Friday that he was undecided if Njoku would see a major increase in his workload after the tight end played just 25 snaps (37 percent) in the Week 11 loss to Buffalo as he made his return from a two-game absence due to a left high-ankle sprain. If Njoku's snap count remains limited to some degree once again, Harrison Bryant -- who logged seven targets and a 75 percent snap share Week 11 -- may be able to maintain a prominent role at tight end.
Nov 24, 2022
Listed as limited Thursday
Njoku (ankle/knee) was listed as a limited practice participant Thursday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
After logging a DNP on Wednesday, Njoku's upgrade to a limited listing Thursday bodes well for his chances of being available for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Unless the tight end manages a full practice Friday, however, he figures to head into the weekend with a Week 12 injury designation.
Nov 23, 2022
Not practicing Wednesday
Njoku (ankle, knee) isn't in line to practice Wednesday, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
In his return from a two-game absence this past Sunday against the Bills, Njoku logged 28 of a possible 75 snaps on offense en route to catching two of his three targets for 17 yards. It remains to be seen if the tight end's absence Wednesday is maintenance-related or indicative of a setback, with his Thursday participation level slated to add further context with regard to his status ahead of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
Nov 20, 2022
Pair of grabs in return
Njoku (ankle) secured two of three targets for 17 yards in the Browns' 31-23 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku had a relatively quiet return from a two-game absence that was sandwiched around the Week 9 bye. The veteran tight end's reception and yardage totals were his lowest since Week 1 against the Panthers, but a Week 12 home matchup against a Buccaneers defense that can be vulnerable to tight ends may offer a chance for a boost in production.
Nov 20, 2022
Listed as active Sunday
Njoku (ankle) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Njoku -- who last suited up in Week 7 -- is thus slated to rejoin the mix after missing the Browns' last two contests. Assuming no in-game setbacks, he should reclaim his key role in Cleveland's passing game, which has resulted in a 34/418/1 stat line (on 42 targets) through his first seven outings. Also available to log added TE snaps Sunday should Njoku be limited at all in his return are Harrison Bryant and Pharaoh Brown, but when healthy Njoku is the team's clear-cut top pass-catching option at his position.
Nov 18, 2022
Listed as questionable for Week 11
Njoku (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bills, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram relays via coach Kevin Stefanski that Njoku -- who last suited up in Week 7 -- is progressing and will continue to be monitored over the next couple of days. Per Trotter, Njoku indicated that he feels optimistic about his chances of returning to action this weekend, and fortunately for those considering the tight end in Week 11 fantasy lineups, the Browns kick off at 1:00 ET on Sunday.
Nov 17, 2022
Turns in limited practice
Njoku (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The limited showing marked Njoku's first recorded practice activity since he sustained a left high-ankle sprain in the Browns' Oct. 23 loss to the Ravens. He's missed the Browns' subsequent two contests, but his return to the field Thursday in a limited capacity gives him a chance at suiting up this Sunday against the Bills. Before the Browns decide whether to give Njoku a designation or rule him out entirely ahead of that contest, the coaching and training staffs will reassess his condition following the team's final Week 11 practice Friday.
Nov 17, 2022
Spotted at practice
Njoku (ankle) was present for practice Thursday. Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who last suited up for game action in Week 7, didn't practice Wednesday, but his return to the field Thursday suggests that he could be available for Sunday's game against the Bills. The Browns' upcoming practice report will clarify the tight end's official participation level in the session.
Nov 16, 2022
Still not practicing
Njoku (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday, Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who last suited up in Week 7, has two more chances to return to practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Bills, but if he's out or limited this weekend, Harrison Bryant and Pharaoh Brown would once again continue to log added tight end snaps for Cleveland in Week 11.
Nov 11, 2022
Won't play Sunday
Njoku (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Njoku -- who last suited up in Week 7 -- still sidelined, Harrison Bryant is in line to lead the Browns' tight end corps Sunday, while Pharaoh Brown mixes in and Miller Forristall is a candidate to be elevated from the team's practice squad. Njoku's next chance to play will arrive in Week 11, when Cleveland faces Buffalo on the road.
Nov 10, 2022
Not taking reps Thursday
Njoku (ankle) was spotted working off to the side during Thursday's practice and is slated to go down as a non-participant on the Browns' second Week 10 practice report, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku hasn't logged any recorded practice activity since suffering a left high-ankle sprain in the Browns' Week 7 loss to the Ravens, but he remains hopeful to be available this Sunday against the Dolphins coming off a Week 9 bye. In order for Njoku to make that a reality, he'll almost certainly need to mix into team drills Friday. Even in that scenario, Njoku would still likely carry an injury designation into the weekend. At this stage, it may be likelier that Njoku winds up missing a second straight game, in which case Harrison Bryant would be positioned for another turn as Cleveland's top tight end.
Nov 10, 2022
Works on side
Njoku (ankle) was part of a group of players that worked off to the side with trainers at Wednesday's practice session, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku missed the Browns' previous game before the bye, and his status remains uncertain heading into Week 10's clash in Miami. He and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (knee) both worked out on the side. Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski remained non-committal about either player's status.
Nov 9, 2022
Slated to miss practice Wednesday
Njoku (ankle) isn't in line to practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
When previously asked if he'd be able to play this coming Sunday against the Dolphins, the tight end indicated "that's the plan," however, at this stage coach Kevin Stefanski noted that he isn't sure Njoku will be able to return to action this weekend. In any case, Njoku's non-participation in the Browns' post-bye practice Wednesday suggests that his status will need to be monitored closely ahead of Week 10 action. In his absence in the team's 32-13 win over the Bengals in Week 8, Harrison Bryant and Pharaoh Brown saw added TE snaps, though neither recorded a catch in the contest.
Nov 7, 2022
Plans on playing in Week 10
Njoku (ankle) plans on playing Sunday against the Dolphins, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was ruled out for Week 8 due to a high-ankle sprain he suffered in Week 7. The tight end appears to have benefitted from the team's Week 9 bye and is planning on playing in Week 10. After a slow start to his career, Njoku has developed as a pass catcher over the last two campaigns and has 34 receptions for 418 yards across seven appearances this season, putting him on pace to shatter his career-high numbers (36 receptions for 475 yards) from a year ago.
Oct 29, 2022
Predictably ruled out
Njoku (ankle) will not play Monday against the Bengals, Zac Jackson of The Athleticreports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku never managed to practice this week, so this felt like a foregone conclusion. Harrison Bryant now enters a prominent role as the team's primary pass-catching tight end and could be an interesting streamer candidate in an AFC North divisional battle which figures to see plenty of offense.
Oct 28, 2022
Still sitting out practice
Njoku (ankle) isn't practicing Friday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku nor the Browns have officially ruled the tight end out from playing Monday against the Bengals, but he doesn't seem to have a realistic shot at suiting up while he recovers from the left high-ankle sprain he sustained in a Week 7 loss to the Ravens. Assuming Njoku is formally ruled out for Week 8 when Cleveland releases its final injury report Saturday, Harrison Bryant would be in line to handle the bulk of the reps at tight end Monday night.
Oct 27, 2022
Not practicing Thursday
Njoku (ankle) won't practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Jake Trotter of ESPN previously reported that Njoku is expected to be sidelined for two to five weeks due to a high ankle sprain, with coach Kevin Stefanski on Monday having described the tight end's status as week-to-week. For his part, Njoku hasn't completely ruled himself out for Monday night's game against the Bengals, but it would take a surprising turn of events for him to suit up for the contest, especially with Cleveland on bye in Week 9.
Oct 24, 2022
Expected to miss 2-to-5 weeks
Njoku (ankle) is nursing a high-ankle sprain and further tests revealed Monday he is expected to miss 2-to-5 weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Kevin Stefanski called Njoku week-to-week Monday, after the tight end was forced out of Sunday's 23-20 loss at Baltimore and spotted in a walking boot after the contest. It appears as though Njoku won't be a candidate to retake the field until after Cleveland's bye Week 9, and considering his 2-to-5 week timetable, the a stint on injured reserve could also be in play. Harrison Bryant stands to benefit from increased opportunities as long as Njoku is sidelined.
Oct 24, 2022
Expected to miss 2-5 weeks
Njoku (ankle) is expected to miss 2-5 weeks, and his injury has been diagnosed as a high ankle sprain,
ANALYSIS
Njoku won't require surgery to recover, but he's likely to miss a couple games. Coach Kevin Stefanski labeled the tight end week-to-week Monday, but additional testing revealed a slightly more severe injury than initially thought. Harrison Bryant will slide into a starting role with Njoku sidelined.
Oct 24, 2022
Called week-to-week
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Njoku (ankle) is week-to-week, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku suffered a left ankle sprain during Sunday's 23-20 loss at Baltimore, and he was spotted wearing a walking boot after the game. It looks as though the athletic tight end could be in danger of missing time due to the injury, in which case Harrison Bryant would stand to operate as Cleveland's top tight end. Until such time as Njoku is officially ruled out for Week 8, though, his status in practice will simply need to be monitored.
Oct 23, 2022
Using crutches, walking boot
Njoku needed crutches and was wearing a walking boot on his left foot following Sunday's 23-20 loss at Baltimore, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was putting together one of the most productive seasons of his career prior to injuring his ankle Sunday, putting together a 34-418-1 line on 42 targets through seven games. If Njoku misses any time, Harrison Bryant will experience in uptick in usage and may even get most of the TE reps for the Browns after Pharaoh Brown also left Week 7 with a concussion.
Oct 23, 2022
Injures ankle Sunday
Njoku was forced out of Sunday's game against the Ravens with an ankle injury, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit from the contest, Njoku caught all seven of his targets for 71 yards. In his absence Sunday, Harrison Bryant and Pharaoh Brown are candidates to see added snaps. Njoku will look to bounce back from his ankle issue in time for Cleveland's Oct. 31 contest against the Bengals.
Oct 16, 2022
Continues breakout
Njoku caught three of six targets for 58 yards in Sunday's 38-15 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Njoku didn't post the heady numbers he had in previous weeks, but he passed the 50-yard threshold for a fourth consecutive game. He entered the contest fifth among the position group with 289 yards. The sixth-year tight end living up to four-year deal he signed during the offseason.
Oct 9, 2022
Team-high receiving yards in loss
Njoku brought in all six targets for 88 yards in the Browns' 30-28 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's yardage total led the Browns, and he checked in second in receptions to Amari Cooper. The athletic tight end is demonstrating excellent chemistry with Jacoby Brissett, now recording at least five receptions and 73 yards in each of the last three games. Njoku is averaging seven targets a game over the last four contests as well, sending him into a Week 6 home matchup against the Patriots with plenty of momentum.
Oct 6, 2022
Puts in full practice
Njoku (knee/rest) was a full participant at Thursday's practice, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku sat out the Browns' first Week 5 practice session a day earlier, but the fact that he had a "rest" designation attached to his name along with the knee injury suggested his status for Sunday's game against the Chargers was never in much question. His return to practice as a full participant verifies that, and Njoku should remain one of Jacoby Brissett's favorite targets this weekend. Over the past two games, Njoku has drawn 17 looks and has turned them into 14 receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown.
Oct 6, 2022
Back at practice
Njoku (knee/rest) returned to practice Thursday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
It remains to be seen if Njoku -- who sat out Wednesday's session -- will be listed as a limited or full participant by the Browns, but the tight end's return to practice Thursday presumably puts him on track to suit up Sunday against the Chargers.
Oct 5, 2022
Resting sore knee
Njoku was held out of Wednesday's practice, with the Browns designating his injury as "knee/rest", Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The addition of 'rest', rather than just labelling it a knee injury, comes as a comfort to fantasy managers who need Njoku in a lineup for his Week 5 matchup with the Chargers -- a team he roasted for a career-high 149 receiving yards last year (also in Week 5). It was one of his few productive receiving outings of 2021, but Njoku now is averaging 4.5 catches for 50.3 yards per game in a three-down role through the first four weeks of 2022. He'll likely return to practice later this week and suit up Sunday afternoon.
Oct 2, 2022
Team-high 73 yards
Njoku (knee) had five receptions (seven targets) for 73 yards while rushing once for a loss of six yards and losing a fumble in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Njoku saw another high-usage week following last Thursday's career game (nine receptions for 89 yards and a touchdown). The veteran tight end had couple of negative plays in the form of a fumble on his first reception of the game, in addition to a negative play on a peculiar rushing attempt. After a slow start -- and a brief knee injury scare during practice this week -- Njoku is looking like an appealing option heading into a favorable matchup against the Chargers next Sunday.
Sep 30, 2022
All systems go for Week 4
Njoku (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against Atlanta after practicing fully Friday, Mark Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku sat out Thursday's practice, but his return Friday and lack of injury designation confirm that his absence Thursday was just for maintenance purposes. The tight end appears to have established himself as Cleveland's No. 2 option in the passing game behind Amari Cooper, and Njoku will look to put forth a second consecutive strong performance Sunday after racking up 89 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 against the Steelers.
Sep 29, 2022
Sits out practice
Njoku (knee) didn't practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Cabot previously suggested that Njoku's absence was rest-related, a notion that would be confirmed by his return to practice in any capacity Friday. The tight end is coming off a strong Week 3 effort in which caught nine of his 10 targets for 89 yards and a TD in the Browns' win over the Steelers last Thursday.
Sep 22, 2022
New career high in receptions
Njoku corralled nine of 10 targets for 89 yards and a touchdown in the Browns' 29-17 win over the Steelers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
The veteran set a new career high in receptions after previously counting a pair of seven-catch tallies as his personal best in that category. Njoku consistently got open against Steelers linebackers, and his seven-yard touchdown grab in the second quarter snapped a 7-7 tie while serving his first trip to the end zone since Week 17 of last season, also versus Pittsburgh. Njoku's target tally was also his highest since back-to-back 11-target games back in Baker Mayfield's rookie 2018 campaign, sending the talented tight end into a Week 4 road matchup versus the Falcons a week from Sunday with plenty of momentum.
Sep 19, 2022
More activity Week 2
Njoku caught three of five targets for 32 yards in Sunday's 31-30 loss to the Jets in Week 2.
ANALYSIS
After a quiet opening week, in which he was targeted once, Njoku was back on top of the tight end room with his five targets. He was on the field for 94% of the snaps (63 of 67 snaps), a greater share than he had in Week 1. This is still an offense dominated by its running backs, but quarterback Jacoby Brissett looked downfield more in Week 2, averaging 8.5 yards per attempt, up from 4.3 against the Panthers last week.
Sep 12, 2022
Quiet opener
Njoku caught his lone target for seven yards in Sunday's 26-24 win over the Panthers in Week 1. He had one other target/catch, but it was nullified by a penalty.
ANALYSIS
Njoku took over the top tight end job after the Browns let Austin Hooper walk during the offseason, and expectations were set when he signed four-year, $55 million contract last May. He played a skill-position high of 71 snaps, but the target-to-snap ratio didn't match the expectations. Fellow tight end Harrison Bryant caught two of four targets for 18 yards and played 38 snaps. As was expected with Jacoby Brissett instead of Deshaun Watson at quarterback, the Browns ran more (39 attempts) than passed (34), and eleven of Brissett's attempts were on the final two drives. Until that point, the offense was about Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. It may be difficult relying on any one Cleveland receiver until Watson returns.
Aug 28, 2022
Three catches in preseason finale
Njoku caught three receptions for 34 yards on four targets in Cleveland's preseason game against Chicago on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku won't have Deshaun Watson for most of the season but still should be in position to break out as a fantasy option in his sixth NFL season in 2022. Still just 26 years old, Njoku's substantial athletic gifts give him a chance to post standout numbers after a relatively quiet start to his NFL career.
Aug 21, 2022
Stays on sidelines Sunday
Njoku suited up but did not play in Sunday's preseason game against the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Neither Njoku nor top backup Harrison Bryant stepped on the field Sunday, as the Browns rested many of their regulars. It's unclear how head coach Kevin Stefanski plans to use his personnel in the third preseason game against the Bears next Saturday.
Aug 13, 2022
Catches lone target
Njoku caught his lone target for seven yards in Friday's 24-13 preseason win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Njoku had the distinction of catching Deshaun Watson's first completion in an NFL game since 2020. The tight end and the rest of the starting offense were limited to a few series before taking the rest of the night off.
Jul 12, 2022
Preparing for full-time duty
Njoku is set to take on a larger role and be a feature of the passing game in 2022, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. "We certainly want to feature (Njoku)," Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said. "(He has) great size, great length in terms of catching the football and being able to go up and pluck contested catches. I think there is an evolution that will continue for David the player."
ANALYSIS
Njoku was a part-time player in four of his five seasons, but he will become the lead tight end after the Browns let Austin Hooper go. He played 47 percent of the snaps in 2020 then 64 percent last season; that count should head north of 80 percent in 2022. Stefanski feels the 26-year-old Njoku has evolved into a complete tight end, and the Browns rewarded him with a four-year contract earlier in the offseason. He's been featured in the red zone during Stefanski's watch -- all the tight ends were -- and has been used on quick throws, where he can use his athleticism after the catch. That was the case with a 71-yard touchdown catch on a screen pass in Week 5, when Njoku caught seven passes for 149 yards. Unfortunately, the tight end never had more than 39 yards in a game the rest of the season, a glimpse into the inconsistency that's dogged him.
May 27, 2022
Agrees to four-year extension
The Browns and Njoku agreed on a four-year, $56.75 million contract extension Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns franchise tagged Njoku earlier in the offseason, but the tight end will now get a massive new extension. Per Rapoport, he'll get $28 million guaranteed and will earn $14.19 million per year, making Njoku the fifth highest-paid tight end in the NFL. The 2017 first-round pick posted 475 yards and four touchdowns last season -- his highest marks since his sophomore campaign.
May 25, 2022
Skipping voluntary OTAs
Njoku is abstaining from OTAs while he and the Browns continue to discuss a potential extension, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland and Njoku are closing in on a deal, per Cabot. Both sides have until July 15 to come to terms on a long-term contract, and the team already applied the franchise tag to the tight end back in March. Playing on the franchise tag would set Njoku up for a $10.8 million salary in 2022, while Cabot notes that the terms being discussed for an extension could average over $13 million per season. With Austin Hooper out of the picture for the Browns, Njoku appears destined for the No. 1 tight end role, putting him in legitimate position for a breakout campaign.
Apr 1, 2022
Extension talks active
Njoku and the Browns are engaged in active talks on a contract extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland has already applied the franchise tag to Njoku, giving both sides until July 15 to agree to terms on a multi-year deal. If a long-term agreement can't be reached, Njoku will play out the 2022 campaign on a $10.8 million salary. With Austin Hooper no longer on the roster, and Deshaun Watson now atop the Browns' quarterback depth chart, Njoku could be facing a legitimate breakout opportunity. Cleveland stands to add more pass-catchers as the offseason continues, potentially in April's draft, but the 2017 first-rounder will still have a clear path to a notable role on offense.
Mar 7, 2022
Franchise tag applied
The Browns have officially placed their franchise tag on Njoku.
ANALYSIS
Per ESPN's Jake Trotter, the Browns now have until July 15 to work out a long-term contract with Njoku, otherwise he'll be slated to play on a franchise tender that guarantees him $10.8 million in 2022, NFL.com reports. Meanwhile, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport indicates that Njoku's agent has been in long-term negotiations toward an extension with Cleveland. The team also has fellow tight ends Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant under contract this coming season, an arrangement that caps Njoku's fantasy ceiling when all three players are available. In 16 games in 2021, the 2017 first-rounder parlayed his 53 targets into a 36/475/4 stat line.
Mar 7, 2022
Gets franchise tag
The Browns will use their franchise tag on Njoku, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland will make the transaction official before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline. Njoku thus appears on track to remain with the Browns for the 2022 campaign while carrying just under an $11 million salary, which gives both sides more time to negotiate on a potential long-term deal. The 25-year-old tight end now has five seasons of NFL experience under his belt, and though he hasn't yet emerged as a consistent, high-end starter, Njoku did make improvements in 2021. Through 16 appearances last season, Njoku secured 36 of 53 targets for 475 yards and four touchdowns.
Jan 10, 2022
Finishes with two grabs in win
Njoku caught both of his targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 21-16 win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was questionable due to a shoulder injury but managed to get on the field and post his best seasonal output since 2018. The fifth-year tight end caught 36 of 53 targets for 475 yards and led all receivers with four touchdowns. After some drama the previous two seasons, including trade requests and being out-snapped by rookie Harrison Bryant in 2020, Njoku fell into line in 2021 and was a model contributor, per Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal. Since Sunday's win, Njoku expressed his desire to stay in Cleveland, per Nate Ulrich of the Beacon Journal. He becomes an unrestricted free agent, but it sounds like both sides would like to commit to another contract. Austin Hooper and Bryant are still around, but coach Kevin Stefanski uses tight ends as more than just blockers, and Njoku was the best receiver of the bunch.
Jan 9, 2022
Suits up Sunday
Njoku (shoulder) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Njoku headed into the contest listed as questionable after returning to a limited practice Friday, but he'll look to close the season on a positive note on the heels of logging a 4/28/1 stat line in Week 17. Assuming no issues with his shoulder, Njoku should see his share of targets Sunday, but he remains a hit-or-miss fantasy option with Austin Hooper also in the mix for a share of Cleveland's tight end targets.
Jan 7, 2022
Questionable for Sunday
Njoku (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With the Browns eliminated from playoff contention, it remains to be seen if Njoku will be activated for Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff. If he's out or limited this weekend, Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant would be in line to head the team's tight end corps in Week 18.
Jan 6, 2022
Absent once again
Njoku (shoulder) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice session, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku hauled in all four of his targets for 28 yards and a touchdown in Monday's loss to the Steelers, but he's been held out of practice Wednesday and Thursday. He'll likely need to return in some capacity Friday if he hopes to play Sunday against the Bengals.
Jan 5, 2022
No practice Wednesday
Njoku (shoulder) is listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's injury report, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku will have two more chances to log practice activity ahead of Sunday's season finale against the Bengals, a game which quarterback Baker Mayfield (shoulder) has already been ruled out for. Harrison Bryant would stand to benefit from increased snaps if Njoku were to miss Week 18.
Jan 4, 2022
Touchdown in defeat
Njoku caught all four of his targets for 28 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's 26-14 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Njoku hauled in all the passes his way on a night quarterback Baker Mayfield at one point misfired on 10 consecutive throws. The tight end's performance was highlighted by his three-yard, contested touchdown grab to end the third quarter, Cleveland's first score of the game. After posting a goose egg in the Browns' Christmas Day loss to the Packers, Njoku rebounded nicely Monday and will try to finish strong versus the Bengals in Week 18.
Dec 27, 2021
Two targets in Week 16 loss
Njoku did not catch either of two targets in Week 16's 24-22 loss to the Packers on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's two targets came on Cleveland's final drive that ended in quarterback Baker Mayfield's fourth interception of the day. He was unable to hold on to one of the targets and was wide open on the other, but Mayfield badly missed him. With Austin Hooper back in the fold after missing Week 15 on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Njoku's involvement decreased.
Dec 23, 2021
Cleared for Week 16
Njoku (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Saturday's game in Green Bay, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
A mid-week addition to the Browns' injury report, Njoku's reps were capped Wednesday and Thursday, but his knee issue evidently wasn't concerning enough for Cleveland to give him a questionable tag heading into the weekend. After playing 100 percent of the offensive snaps in Cleveland's 16-14 loss to Las Vegas on Monday, Njoku should see a downturn in opportunities with top tight end Austin Hooper (illness) having been restored from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Cleveland has still made liberal use of two-tight end sets when Hooper has been available, so expect Njoku to be on the field for at least half of the Browns' plays.
Dec 22, 2021
Limited participant with knee issue
Njoku (knee) is listed as limited on Wednesday's practice estimate, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
The seemingly minor knee injury is likely less relevant than Austin Hooper's return from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Njoku played every snap on offense in Monday's 16-14 loss to the Raiders, but he'll likely be back in a part-time role this Saturday in Green Bay.
Dec 20, 2021
Three catches in Week 15
Njoku caught three of five targets for 29 yards in Monday's 16-14 loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Njoku finished second on the team in receiving yards behind Donovan Peoples-Jones, but more was expected out of Njoku with fellow tight end Austin Hooper (illness) on the reserve/COVID-19 list. It was actually third-string tight end Harrison Bryant (ankle) who caught the only touchdown pass thrown by Browns quarterback Nick Mullens, giving Cleveland a short-lived 14-13 lead with his six-yard score in the fourth quarter. Cleveland will hope to get more of its regular starts, including quarterback Baker Mayfield, back from COVID-19 protocols by the time the team travels to Green Bay in Week 16.
Dec 20, 2021
Set for No. 1 TE role Monday
Njoku is in line to serve as Cleveland's top tight end for Monday's game against Las Vegas after Austin Hooper (illness) wasn't reinstated from the reserve/COVID-19 list, Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing Cleveland's Week 14 win over Baltimore while he resided on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Njoku was restored to the roster Thursday, two days after Hooper tested positive for the virus Tuesday. Even with the NFL pushing the Browns' Week 15 game an extra two days, Hooper wasn't able to clear the necessary protocols, which should leave Njoku in store for one of his larger snap shares and target counts of the season. Cleveland could have No. 3 tight end Harrison Bryant (ankle) available Monday, but expect Njoku to see the bulk of the work at the position as the healthier option. Njoku will be working with third-string quarterback Nick Mullens, who will pick up the start with both Baker Mayfield (illness) and Case Keenum (illness) still stuck on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Dec 17, 2021
Browns-Raiders moved to Monday
Njoku and the Browns will no longer play the Raiders on Saturday, after the NFL officially rescheduled the matchup between the two teams for Monday at 5 p.m. ET.
ANALYSIS
Due to ongoing COVID-19-related issues within the Cleveland organization, the NFL is hopeful that by delaying the game two days, the Browns will restore enough players from the reserve/COVID-19 list to alleviate depth concerns on the roster. Top tight end Austin Hooper is one of 24 Cleveland players and 12 starters who has been placed on the list over the past week, and after testing positive for the virus Tuesday, he's not a lock to be available Week 15. If Hooper is held out, Njoku would have a clear path to the starting role, and quite likely, a fair amount of volume in the passing game.
Dec 16, 2021
Resumes practicing
Njoku, who had been on the reserve/COVID-19 list, returned to practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's return to the mix is a welcome one, with fellow tight end Austin Hooper among the numerous Cleveland players on the list in advance of Saturday's game against the Raiders and Harrison Bryant managing an ankle injury. With that in mind, Njoku figures to see a key role in the Browns' Week 15 passing game.
Dec 10, 2021
Won't play this week
Coach Kevin Stefanski relayed Friday that Njoku, who is on the reserve/COVID-19 list, won't play Sunday against the Ravens, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
With Njoku unavailable and Harrison Bryant (ankle) having been ruled out this week, Austin Hooper, who's coming off a zero-catch (on three targets) effort in Week 12, figures to be busy versus Baltimore. In that context, Hooper is a bounce-back candidate in Week 14 and merits fantasy lineup consideration as a streaming tight end option.
Dec 9, 2021
Feels nothing
Njoku (COVID-19) tweeted twice this week that he is not experiencing symptoms.
ANALYSIS
Njoku's availability for Sunday's game against Baltimore hangs in the balance while he quarantines. "I am hopeful, but we have to plan if we do not have him," head coach Kevin Stefanski told Marla Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal about Njoku. "If we have him, that would be great." If Njoku is fully vaccinated, he could play if he has two negative tests separated by 24 hours and is activated by 4:00 PM Saturday.
Dec 7, 2021
Moves to reserve/COVID-19 list
The Browns plan to place Njoku on the reserve/COVID-19 later Tuesday, and his availability for Sunday's game against the Ravens is in question, Kimberley A. Martin of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland hasn't revealed whether Njoku has tested positive following its Week 13 bye, or if he will be placed on the list as a close contact of an infected person. The reason behind his placement on the list -- as well as his vaccination status -- will be determining factors in whether he'll have a realistic shot at playing this weekend. Before the Browns went on bye, Njoku drew at least four targets in each of the team's last three games, cobbling together a 6-66-1 receiving line over that span.
Nov 29, 2021
Scores third TD
Njoku caught three of five targets for 35 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 16-10 loss to Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was the lone position player to hit pay dirt in an awful offensive showing from the Browns' offense. The veteran tight end continues to see regular usage alongside Austin Hooper (zero receptions) as Cleveland deploys plenty of two tight end sets. Njoku has shown occasional offensive spurts this year, but the shared usage with Hooper limits both player's fantasy values. The Browns will enter the bye week before taking on the Ravens again in Week 14.
Nov 22, 2021
Grabs two passes in win
Njoku caught two of four targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 13-10 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
The downfield passing game suffered with the inconsistency of injured quarterback Baker Mayfield (shoulder/knee/foot). The quarterback was booed after missing badly on a throw to Njoku with just over five minutes left. Unfortunately for Njoku and the rest of the receivers, that's the state of Cleveland's offense right now. A healthy Nick Chubb is its best weapon. Since a Week 5 breakout performance, Njoku has caught 10 of 18 targets for 112 yards and one touchdown over six games.
Nov 21, 2021
Likely starter vs. DET
Njoku is expected to draw the start opposite Austin Hooper on Sunday against Detroit, Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cleveland passing game has taken several major hits after trading Odell Beckham to the Rams, as Donovan Peoples-Jones (groin) and Anthony Schwartz (concussion) are inactive for the Week 11 contest. This leaves Jarvis Landry and Rashard Higgins as the primary wideouts, with both Ja'Marcus Bradley and Lawrence Cager activated from the practice squad and available Sunday. It seems Cleveland will address this problem by using less three-WR sets, instead electing to use both Njoku and Austin Hooper in a base formation featuring two tight ends. Don't be surprised if Harrison Bryant finds himself in the mix as well. As for Njoku, he's been out-snapped by Hooper in all but two weeks this season, and has had consecutive weeks with only one catch (though his Week 9 reception was a touchdown).
Nov 15, 2021
Shut down Week 10
Njoku caught one of four targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 45-7 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
It was a tough day for the Cleveland offense, which did nothing after its scripted first drive that resulted in a touchdown. Quarterback Baker Mayfield (knee/shoulder) was off all day, even during the scoring drive. The quarterback's lone pick came on a pass to Njoku, who may have been expected to come back for the ball but didn't. The silver lining is that Cleveland's tight ends have received nearly as many targets as the team's wideouts since Odell Beckham skipped town; the downside is that all three tight ends are used significantly and any one of them could be a fantasy producer.
Nov 7, 2021
Snags second TD
Njoku caught one of three targets for 18 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 41-16 win over Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
Njoku finished off the scoring with an 18-yard grab late in the fourth quarter, cementing a bid road win for the Browns, who entered the game off a pair of wobbly efforts on offense while attempting to put the Odell Beckham drama behind them. All three of Njoku's targets were inside the Bengals 20, and the touchdown was his first in four weeks.
Nov 1, 2021
Finishes second in receiving yards
Njoku caught all three targets for 39 yards in Sunday's 15-10 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Since breaking out Week 5, Njoku has been a quiet part of Cleveland's offense. In three subsequent games, the tight end has six catches for 63 yards and zero touchdowns. On a positive note, he's caught 83.3 percent of his targets and is averaging 16.2 yards per catch.
Oct 22, 2021
Quiet in win
Njoku caught two of two targets for 18 yards in Thursday's 17-14 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Njoku managed a knee injury during the short practice week but was available to play. He was on the field for 59 percent (42 snaps) of the offensive plays, which is right at his season average.
Oct 20, 2021
Cleared for TNF
Njoku (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation for Thursday night's game against the Broncos after being listed as a full participant on Wednesday's practice report, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns offense is peppered with key injuries, with starting QB Baker Mayfield (shoulder) out and the team's top two running backs, Nick Chubb (calf) and Kareem Hunt (calf/IR) both unavailable. Moreover, the Week 7 status of wideouts Odell Beckham (shoulder) and Jarvis Landry (knee, IR-R) is cloudy at this stage. With that context in mind, it's plausible that Cleveland's tight ends (Njoku, Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant) could be busy Thursday. Njoku, who recorded a 7/149/1 stat line in the team's Week 5 loss to the Chargers, caught just one of his two targets for six yards in this past Sunday's loss to the Cardinals, but there's a decent chance he'll have added opportunities this week.
Oct 19, 2021
Another limited listing
Njoku (knee) was limited at Tuesday's practice, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
For a third week in a row, Njoku practice reps have been capped due to a knee issue. On this occasion, though, he appears to be a bit more healthy, with limited next to his name on both Week 7 injury reports. The Browns will have a chance to clear him entirely Wednesday, but even they don't he seems to be in good shape to play Thursday versus the Broncos.
Oct 18, 2021
Tending to knee issue
The Browns list Njoku as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report due to a knee issue, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland didn't hold an officially practice one day after its 37-14 loss to the Cardinals, but Njoku looks as though he may be dinged up coming out of that contest. After a massive Week 5 outing (seven catches for 149 yards and a touchdown) in a loss to the Chargers, Njoku delivered a 1-6-0 line on two targets while playing 26 of the Browns' 59 offensive snaps (44 percent) in the Week 6 loss. The 44-percent share was more than 10 points below his previous season-low share (56 percent), which came back in Week 1.
Oct 18, 2021
Big dropoff Week 6
Njoku caught one of two targets for six yards in Sunday's 37-14 loss to Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Njoku experienced a deep drop in production after a breakout Week 5, in which he caught seven passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. Perhaps the knee injury he nursed during the preparation for Week 6 limited him. He played a season-low 44 percent of the offensive snaps on a day when the Browns aired it out while playing from behind early. Those have been the games where Njoku is most productive.
Oct 15, 2021
Cleared for Week 6
Njoku (knee) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was unable to practice Wednesday but returned in a limited fashion Thursday and Friday, which was enough to clear him. The 25-year-old tight end will look to build on last week's excellent performance (149 yards and a touchdown) at home against the league's last remaining undefeated team.
Oct 14, 2021
Back at practice
Njoku (knee) returned to a limited practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who caught all seven of his targets for 149 yards and a touchdown in the Browns' 47-42 loss to the Chargers in Week 5, sat out Wednesday's practice with a knee issue, but his return to a limited session has him trending in the right direction as Sunday's game against the Cardinals approaches. Friday's final injury report will reveal whether the tight end heads into the weekend carrying an injury designation or is able to finish the week with a full practice and subsequently cleared to play.
Oct 13, 2021
Nursing knee injury
Njoku (knee) will not practice Wednesday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku is coming off the best game of his career (7-149-1) in Sunday's 47-42 loss to the Chargers, but he appears to have injured his knee in the process. Cleveland's lengthy injury report also features Nick Chubb (calf), Kareem Hunt (wrist, knee) and Myles Garrett (knee, ankle), so it's possible that the team is simply providing some key contributors with a bit of rest. The Browns are slated for a tough matchup against the undefeated Cardinals in Week 6.
Oct 10, 2021
Suits up Sunday
Njoku (knee) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who has logged seven catches on 10 targets for 111 yards in four games to date, is out there if you need him Sunday, but his weekly fantasy ceiling is hampered by the fact that Austin Hooper (11/97/1, 16 targets) and Harrison Bryant (6/69/0, 10 targets) also command their share of the Browns' tight end looks.
Oct 8, 2021
Questionable for Week 5
Njoku (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Scott Petrak of The Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku hadn't previously dealt with any injuries this season until a knee injury cut into his practice time this week. The Browns have Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant on hand should Njoku -- who has seven catches for 111 yards this season -- need to miss any time.
Oct 6, 2021
Picks up knee injury
Njoku (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
It's his first missed practice of the season, though he's one of 11 Browns missing Wednesday's session. If Njoku does end up missing Week 5, the Browns will have more work for fellow tight ends Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant. The three have been working in a committee all year, limiting Njoku to 10 targets on 62 percent snap share in four games.
Oct 4, 2021
Catches two passes in win
Njoku caught two of two targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 14-7 win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
After a Week 1 explosion for 76 yards and two catches of more than 20 yards, Njoku has just four catches for 35 yards the following three weeks. That opening week should be viewed as an outlier, as Cleveland and Kansas City hooked up in a shootout. The Browns normal course of operation is what occurred Weeks 2 through 4 -- a run happy team that throws when it has to or to keep defenses from keying on running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt. Njoku and fellow backup tight end Harrison Bryant are tied at 10 targets through four weeks, although Njoku consistently has led in snaps.
Sep 27, 2021
Leads TEs in snaps
Njoku was not targeted in 50 snaps (62 percent share) in Sunday's 26-6 win over the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Njoku continues to get a healthy share of the snaps on offense, but his fantasy production dropped off for a second straight week following a five-target performance in the Week 1 loss to the Chiefs. The main difference in the two weeks since the opener is that Cleveland is running the ball much more than they did in the Kansas City game, which was a more wide-open affair. Fellow backup tight end Harrison Bryant (33 snaps, 41 percent share) failed to catch either of his two targets.
Sep 20, 2021
Falls back Week 2
Njoku caught two of three targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 31-21 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was Cleveland's receiving-yard leader Week 1, but he finished behind several others Sunday, including tight end mates Austin Hooper and, more notably, fellow backup Harrison Bryant. It's not that the Browns shied away from him -- his three targets were third on the team -- but that's just how the game transpired. He played more snaps (36) than Bryant (31) and remains an active target, which could be beneficial in the coming weeks. The position group as a whole became more important to the offense after Jarvis Landry sustained a knee injury and is expected to miss multiple weeks. If Odell Beckham (knee) remains out Week 3 against Chicago, Njoku, Bryant and Hooper could have as heavy involvement in the game plan for the Bears as they did against the Texans.
Sep 13, 2021
Yardage leader Week 1
Njoku caught three of five targets for a team-high 76 yards in Sunday's 33-29 win over Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Njoku (35 snaps, 59%) played nearly as much as starter Austin Hooper (38, 64%) and showed off his athleticism with a 43-yard reception, the second longest among Cleveland targets. It's a promising start for Njoku, who appeared to have lost playing time to then-rookie Harrison Bryant in 2020, but he nearly doubled Bryant's 19 snaps.
Aug 23, 2021
Sits out Preseason Week 2
Njoku did not play in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Giants in Preseason Week 2, Scott Petrak of the Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
A healthy Njoku joined fellow tight ends Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant in not playing Sunday, leaving most of the reps for Jordan Franks and Connor Davis. The Browns also used fullback Johnny Stanton at tight end.
Aug 20, 2021
Burns multiple corners
Njoku (shoulder) had a good day in camp Friday, beating three separate corners in day two of the Browns-Giants joint practice, Ellis. L. Williams of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku showed off his athleticism and hesitation moves, getting behind Xavier McKinney and Jabrill Peppers for touchdowns, then running a crisp route against Logan Ryan. The fifth-year tight end missed the preseason opener due to the shoulder, but he's had a good camp when healthy and appears ready to play Preseason Week 2 against the Giants on Sunday afternoon.
Aug 15, 2021
Hires new agent
Njoku (shoulder) hired a new agent, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku signed with Malki Kawa of First Round Management, who had previously been the player's agent until the tight end left him for Drew Rosenhaus last summer. At the time, Njoku wanted out of Cleveland, requested a trade and felt Rosenhaus could deliver on that demand. The Browns refused to budge and kept Njoku while exercising the fifth-year option of his rookie deal. A lot has changed since then, most notably the Browns are a postseason contender and building something in Cleveland. Kawa said he'll do what he can to get Njoku with the Browns long-term, and that the player would like to work something out with the team. Njoku's currently listed as second on the depth chart, but it's more of a co-second along with Harrison Bryant.
Aug 15, 2021
Does not play opener
Njoku (shoulder) did not play in Saturday's 23-13 win over the Jaguars in preseason Week 1.
ANALYSIS
Njoku sustained a shoulder injury this week and subsequently participated only in individual drills leading up to the game. While the Browns sat many of their starting offensive weapons, he isn't considered to be part of that class and likely would have played if not banged-up.
Aug 11, 2021
Handling individual drills
Njoku (shoulder) went through individual drills at Wednesday's practice, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has been forced to miss practice since picking up a shoulder injury Tuesday, so it's encouraging to see him back out on the field. Unless he's able to resume practicing in full expediently, though, Njoku could be in danger of missing the Browns' first preseason match, with Saturday's exhibition against the Jaguars just around the corner.
Aug 10, 2021
Second on depth chart
Njoku (shoulder) is listed as the second tight end on the Browns' unofficial depth chart.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has had a good camp thus far but sustained a shoulder injury that forced him to sit out Tuesday's practice. The Browns appear to value his ability in one-on-one situations, which puts him above second-year man Harrison Bryant for now. In 2020, Bryant played more snaps than Njoku.
Aug 10, 2021
Tending to shoulder issue
Njoku didn't practice Tuesday due to a shoulder injury, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has had a rough past two years in Cleveland, spending time on IR due to a broken wrist in 2019, residing in Freddie Kitchens' doghouse upon his return that season and playing behind both Austin Hooper and rookie Harrison Bryant in 2020. In total, Njoku has gathered in 24 of 39 targets for 254 yards and three touchdowns in 17 appearances during that stretch. Now with another injury in tow, Njoku is in danger of missing preseason action, with the Browns set to kick off exhibition season Saturday at Jacksonville.
Aug 7, 2021
Earns praise from position coach
Cleveland tight ends coach Drew Petzing praised Njoku's work during training camp, Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who hooked up on a long completion with quarterback Baker Mayfield early in Friday's practice, has flown under the radar the first days of camp. Over the last few years, it's no secret he wanted a more involved role, but Petzing is pleased with the fifth-year veteran's attitude. "He has been great," Petzing said. "The funny thing is I know there has been a lot of noise on the outside, my experience with him really from the day I got here has been very positive. In terms of the way the kid works, he prepares and the product he puts on the field, it has been awesome." Despite Petzing's praise, Njoku is expected to slot third on the depth chart behind Hooper and Harrison Bryant.
Feb 6, 2021
Quiet about future
Njoku had no comment when asked if the Browns are the right team for him, Nate Ulrich of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
When asked that question Friday on the Jim Rome Show, Njoku avoided the topic. "I'm not going to answer that right now," said the tight end. "I have no comment towards that at this moment." Njoku has one year remaining on his contract, but his role was diminished significantly in 2020 after Cleveland added Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant during the offseason prior to the season. That was something he foresaw last July, when he and his agent requested a trade (which was later rescinded). Of the three tight ends, Njoku logged the lowest share of offensive snaps (33.9%), behind Hooper (59.5%) and Bryant (55.6%).
Jan 17, 2021
Active in playoff loss
Njoku caught four of five targets for 59 yards in Sunday's 22-17 playoff loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Njoku rarely got this kind of usage during the regular season when Cleveland's top three tight ends were available, so his activity against Kansas City was a surprise. He caught 19 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns over 13 games, well off a breakout 2018 when he had 56-239-4. Njoku has one year remaining on his contract, but he yearns for a bigger role like he had 2018. Austin Hooper is the clear leader at the position, so Njoku will have to accept a similar role in 2021, sharing snaps with Harrison Bryant behind Hooper in an offensive that uses multiple tight ends often.

Suiting up Sunday
Njoku (hamstring) is listed as active Sunday at Kansas City, Andrew Gribble of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku managed just one limited practice this week (Friday), but it was enough to allow him to play through a hamstring injury. The Browns will roll with Austin Hooper for a majority of the offensive snaps Sunday, with Njoku and rookie fourth-round pick Harrison Bryant the options to take the field in two-TE sets. Njoku put up a measly 19-213-2 line on 29 targets during 13 regular-season appearances.
Jan 17, 2021
Likely to suit up Sunday
Njoku (hamstring), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's divisional-round game against the Chiefs, is expected to play, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Confirmation on Njoku's availability is expected to arrive around 1:35 p.m. ET, when the Browns are slated to release their inactive list 90 minutes in advance of the game's kickoff. The Browns have consistently made use of three tight ends this season, but Njoku and Harrison Bryant both took a back seat to No. 1 option Austin Hooper in the wild-card win over the Steelers. Hooper played 90 percent of the offensive snaps in the victory and tallied seven receptions for 46 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets, while Bryant and Njoku combined for one target and played 33 and 31 percent of the snaps, respectively.
Jan 15, 2021
Questionable for Sunday
Njoku (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's divisional-round playoff game against Kansas City, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who logged back-to-back DNPs Wednesday and Thursday returned to a limited session Friday, which gives him a chance to suit up this weekend. However, with Austin Hooper clearly the Browns' top pass-catching tight end and Harrison Bryant also in the mix, Njoku isn't a high-percentage fantasy option these days.
Jan 14, 2021
Absent again
Njoku (hamstring) won't practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Back-to-back absences suggest the tight end is in some danger of missing Sunday's game at Kansas City. It wouldn't be too big a loss for the Cleveland offense, as Njoku played only 31 percent of snaps in the wild-card win over Pittsburgh, catching one pass for seven yards. Austin Hooper logged 90 percent of snaps and a team-high 11 targets, while rookie Harrison Bryant got 33 percent of snaps and zero targets. Bryant would be the favorite to pick up most of Njoku's vacated snaps.
Jan 13, 2021
Misses Wednesday's practice
Njoku (hamstring) did not practice on Wednesday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegramreports.
ANALYSIS
While the extent and cause of Njoku's hamstring injury is unknown at the time, he was unable to practice on Wednesday. The tight end played in the wild-card win over Pittsburgh, where he caught his lone target for seven yards.
Jan 11, 2021
Reduction in targets Sunday
Njoku caught his lone target for seven yards in Sunday's 48-37 wild-card win over Pittsuburgh.
ANALYSIS
Njoku entered the game with an uptick in usage, having been targeted nine times in Week 16 and 17, but he was of little significance in the game plan Sunday. The return of Harrison Bryant contributed to the drop in targets, as did quarterback Baker Mayfield's continued reliance on primary tight end Austin Hooper, who received 11 looks in the win. Njoku and the Browns head to the AFC divisional round next Sunday to play Kansas City, a defense that ceded the 28th most yards to opposing tight ends (59.6 YPG) during the regular season.
Jan 3, 2021
Season high in targets
Njoku caught two of a season-high five targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 24-22 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Njoku got extra attention Sunday as Harrison Bryant (reserve/COVID-19) was unavailable for duty. It's rare that Njoku is on par with starter Austin Hooper, who also was targeted five times. Bryant was first deemed a close contact of a person with the virus, but further testing revealed he also contracted it. With Sunday's win, Cleveland extended its season to the Wild Card round next weekend against Pittsburgh. If Bryant's not ready to go by then, Njoku will pick up additional playing time.
Dec 28, 2020
Season high receptions
Njoku caught a season-high four of four targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Njoku and the rest of the tight ends carried a larger share of the targets with Cleveland's top four wideouts unavailable after being placed on the COVID-19 list. The Jets shut down the Browns' vaunted running attack, forcing quarterback Baker Mayfield to throw a season-high 53 times, including 26 targeted to his tight ends. The wideouts, who are considered close contacts of a teammate that tested positive for the virus, could return in time to practice and get ready for Week 17 against the Steelers.
Dec 22, 2020
One reception Week 15
Njoku caught his lone target for 22 yards during Sunday's win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old played 48 percent of the offensive snaps but didn't find much involvement in the passing game. Njoku should continue to split time as Cleveland's secondary tight end with Harrison Bryant with Austin Hooper (neck) now healthy.
Dec 20, 2020
Clear to face Giants
Njoku (knee) is active for Sunday night's game against the Giants, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
A sudden practice absence Friday placed Njoku's Week 15 status in question, but coach Kevin Stefanski alleviated concerns by subsequently stating that he expected the 24-year-old to play. Having since assured his coach's intuition by clearing the injury report in time for kickoff, Njoku looks to build on a three-catch, 45-yard Week 14 performance against the Ravens. He'll get work at the tight end position alongside Harrison Bryant and Austin Hooper, the latter of which gained clearance to play Sunday evening after being limited during the week with a neck injury.
Dec 18, 2020
Taking questionable tag into Sunday
The Browns list Njoku as questionable for Sunday's game against the Giants due to a knee injury, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku didn't appear on either of the Browns' first two Week 15 practice reports, but he was added Friday after the knee issue kept him out of the team session. Fortunately, Njoku isn't believed to be dealing with any significant setback, as head coach Kevin Stefanski said after practice that he expects the 24-year-old to suit up this weekend, according to Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer. Meanwhile, top tight end Austin Hooper (neck) is also listed as questionable, so Njoku and Harrison Bryant could take on more snaps in the event Hooper is ultimately forced to miss a second straight game.
Dec 15, 2020
Has season-high targets
Njoku caught three of a season-high four targets for 45 yards in Monday's 47-42 loss to Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Njoku was added to the starting lineup along with Harrison Bryant as Austin Hooper (neck) was inactive. The Browns threw more than usual Monday, and the tight end position combined for 10 targets, the most since Week 7 against Pittsburgh. When all three tight ends are healthy, a typical week has Hooper gobbling up the majority of snaps and targets. His neck injury is not considered serious, so he could return Week 15 against the Giants on Sunday night.
Dec 7, 2020
Targeted once in win
Njoku caught his lone target for five yards in Sunday's 41-35 win over Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Njoku had just one of three tight end targets Sunday and has been targeted twice over the last four games. His involvement in the offense has taken a hit since Austin Hooper returned from an appendectomy, with Sunday's reception his first since Week 8. The Browns face the Ravens in Week 14, an opponent that ranks 21st in yards allowed to opposing tight ends, but if there's a Cleveland tight to consider next week, it's Hooper.
Nov 30, 2020
Untargeted in win
Njoku played 40 snaps and was not targeted in Sunday's 27-25 win over Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who has not caught a pass since Week 8, went untargeted for the second time in the last three weeks. He and Harrison Bryant have become afterthoughts, combining for just three targets in the last three games while starter Austin Hooper had nine. The return of Nick Chubb has turned Cleveland into a run-heavy team and squeezed targeting opportunities for Njoku.
Nov 23, 2020
One target in win
Njoku failed to catch his lone target in Sunday's 22-17 win over Philadelphia.
ANALYSIS
Njoku had an uptick in his snap count (34, 51 percent), as he and fellow tight end Harrison Bryant (39, 58 percent) helped cover for the loss of fullback Andy Janovich, but the duo combined for one target. For the past two games, Cleveland has run the ball nearly twice as much as it throws, which shrinks the targets for all receivers. Lead tight end Austin Hooper has seven of the eight tight end targets in those two games. Additionally, quarterback Baker Mayfield has not thrown a touchdown pass since Week 7, so receivers need to build up yards to have any value.
Nov 16, 2020
Untargeted in win
Njoku was not targeted in Sunday's 10-7 win over Houston.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland tight ends were targeted twice on a weather-impacted day on the shores of Lake Erie, both went to lead tight end Austin Hooper. Neither Njoku nor Harrison Bryant were given any looks on a day when the Browns ran twice as much they threw the ball. The Browns' strength is running the ball, something they should continue as the weather gets colder. Njoku has just 13 targets over six games with eight catches, 102 yards and two touchdowns.
Nov 4, 2020
Staying in Cleveland
Njoku, who told the Browns he would like to be traded, remains with the team after the NFL trade deadline passed Tuesday, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku first requested a trade in July before it was rescinded in August, but told Cabot in October he would be open to a change of scenery. The Browns had no intention of trading him, and there were no serious trade talks Tuesday. Instead of becoming a lead tight end with another team, Njoku remains part of the three-man rotation that includes Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant. Njoku, who has missed three games with a sprained knee, has eight catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns with only one drop.
Nov 2, 2020
One catch in Week 8 loss
Njoku caught one of three targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 16-6 loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, like many Browns' receivers, was hindered by the conditions of the day, which featured 35-plus MPH shifting winds that made moving the ball via the air challenging. For the second week in a row without Austin Hooper (appendix), Njoku (29 snaps) finished behind rookie Harrison Bryant (39) in snap count. Njoku has made his desire to be traded clear, but the Browns are reticent to pull the trigger by the Nov. 3 trade deadline, preferring to keep him around as part of team's three-man rotation at tight end. Without a deal, Njoku could drop to third on the depth chart in terms of usage. Hooper is expected to return Week 10 after the Browns' bye this coming week.
Oct 26, 2020
Makes impact in win
Njoku caught two of three targets for 20 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 37-34 win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
With Austin Hooper (appendectomy) sidelined, both Njoku and Harrison Bryant were in the starting lineup and each had an impact. Njoku caught the first of three go-ahead scores during a wild, fourth-quarter shootout in Cincinnati, while Bryant scored twice. Njoku, who requested a trade by the Nov. 3 deadline, wants to be a lead tight end somewhere, but the Browns want him around for depth and to be part of the offense that often deploys multiple tight ends. At this point, the team is unwilling to part with him. The Browns have one more game before the trade deadline -- Week 8 against the Raiders -- so they will at least hold onto him through that game. With Hooper expected to return Week 10 after a bye week, Njoku would return to a backup role, competing with Bryant for snaps behind Hooper.
Oct 23, 2020
Should get more work sans Hooper
Njoku is expected to handle an increased role Sunday against the Bengals after top tight end Austin Hooper was ruled out for the contest following an emergency appendectomy, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Since his return from injured reserve Week 5 following a three-game absence, Njoku has seen limited involvement behind Hooper, recording two receptions for 13 yards while playing only 34.9 percent of the Browns' offensive snaps in his first two games back in action. Meanwhile, fellow tight end Harrison Bryant has played 39.7 percent of the snaps during that two-week stretch, so he and Njoku may be headed for a fairly even timeshare this weekend in Cincinnati. Hooper's absence should still improve the overall outlooks for Njoku and Bryant, but the fantasy upside for both could be muted, given the likelihood they'll be splitting snaps.
Oct 22, 2020
Upgrades to full activity
Njoku (shoulder) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku is in the clear for Sunday's game at Cincinnati after the Browns capped his reps in their first Week 7 practice Wednesday. The 24-year-old returned from injured reserve Week 5 and has struggled to find looks in the Browns' passing attack behind top tight end Austin Hooper in his first two games back in action, hauling in two of four targets for 13 yards.
Oct 21, 2020
Limited practice Wednesday
Njoku (shoulder) was limited at practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
In three games this season, Njoku has been limited to five catches on seven targets for 63 yards and a TD. There's been plenty of speculation that the tight end may be dealt before the NFL's Nov. 3 trade deadline, and at this point such a move would be Njoku's clearest path to regaining fantasy relevance.
Oct 20, 2020
Looking for new hom
Per a source, Njoku wants to be traded by the Nov. 3 deadline, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku expressed the same desire to be traded during the offseason but rescinded the request in August. At this point, the Browns have been unwilling to trade him, but Njoku might be an attractive target for teams that could give Cleveland help at linebacker and in the secondary. The Browns rotate their three tight ends with Njoku and Harrison Bryant getting reps behind starter Austin Hooper; however, there is not a lot of production to be had from receivers. Cleveland is a run-oriented team, which limits opportunity for all three tight ends plus wideouts Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. In three games this season, Njoku has five catches on seven targets for 63 yards.
Oct 19, 2020
Has season-high snaps share
Njoku caught one of three targets for seven yards in Sunday's 38-7 loss to Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
This was Njoku's second week back from a knee and injury, and he had a season-high 40 percent of the offensive snaps (23 of 57). It's natural that he would get more usage during a game in which the Browns trailed early and were forced to throw. Njoku's considered more of a receiving threat at tight end than a blocker.
Oct 12, 2020
Modest use in return
Njoku caught his lone target for six yards in Sunday's 32-23 win over the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Njoku made his return to the lineup after spending three games on injured reserve due to a knee injury, as the Browns operated with a full complement of tight ends for the first time since Week 1. He had 21 snaps, fewer than Harrison Bryant (29) and starter Austin Hooper (58).
Oct 9, 2020
Looks ready for duty
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski declared Njoku (knee) is 100 percent recovered from his injury, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku, who was designated to return from injured reserve earlier this week, is in the 21-day window during which the Browns can evaluate him. If active for Week 5 against the Colts, it's unclear the level of playing time he'll get, as both Austin Hooper and Harrison Bryant have played well.
Oct 7, 2020
Cleared to practice
The Browns designated Njoku (knee) to return from injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The transaction opens up a 21-day window during which the Browns can evaluate Njoku in practice, but he isn't expected to require the full period before Cleveland adds him back to the 53-man roster. Since Njoku has already missed Cleveland's last three games, he'll be eligible to play Sunday against the Colts, assuming his sprained knee responds well to practice. Though Austin Hooper sits atop the Browns' depth chart at tight end, Njoku was more involved in the passing game of the two in his lone appearance Week 1 in Baltimore, hauling in all three of his targets for 50 yards.
Oct 6, 2020
Expected back Week 5
Njoku (knee) is expected to return to the roster for Week 5's home game against the Colts, Andrew Gribble of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed the news that Njoku himself broke in a tweet. His return should mostly impact rookie Harrison Bryant, who has been playing the backup role to starter Austin Hooper. Cleveland has often used multiple tight ends, so there should still be opportunity for all three against an Indianapolis defense that has allowed just 71 yards to tight ends, the fewest in the NFL.
Oct 5, 2020
Could be activated for Week 4
Njoku (knee) confirmed via his official Twitter account Monday that he's eligible to be activated for Week 5's matchup against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Njoku has spent the last three weeks on injured reserve nursing an MCL sprain, but he appears optimistic to return versus Indianapolis. Despite only playing 23 percent of snaps before injuring his knee Week 1, Njoku hauled in all three of his targets for 51 yards and a score. The 2017 first-round pick's role behind Austin Hooper may not allow him consistent weekly fantasy production, but he'll always retain upside in the red zone. The Browns have yet to officially designate him for activation from IR.
Sep 14, 2020
Diagnosed with MCL sprain
Njoku (knee) was placed on injured reserve Monday due to a sprained MCL, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku suffered the injury during Sunday's divisional loss to the Ravens. He's been handled a three-week recovery timetable, a span which coincides with the date he'll be eligible for activation from IR. For the time being, Harrison Bryant and Stephen Carlson will pick up the slack behind Austin Hooper.
Sep 14, 2020
Placed on injured reserve
The Browns placed Njoku (knee) on injured reserve Monday.
ANALYSIS
Njoku will miss at least three weeks on IR after suffering a knee injury during Sunday's loss to the Ravens. As long as he remains sidelined, Harrison Bryant and Stephen Carlson stand to see increased opportunities behind Austin Hooper. Njoku got off to a promising start Week 1 before suffering his knee injury, hauling in all three of his targets for 50 yards and a score.
Sep 13, 2020
Exits game with knee injury
Njoku was forced out of Sunday's game against the Ravens with a knee injury, Andrew Gribble of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit, Njoku hauled in all three of his targets for 50 yards and a TD. Added tight end snaps behind Austin Hooper are now available for Harrison Bryant and Stephen Carlson.
Aug 30, 2020
Returns to full practice
Njoku (wrist) participated in full-team drills Sunday for the first time in more than a week, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku made an instant splash with a 64-yard gain on a pass from backup quarterback Case Keenum. It sounds like the tight end should be ready for Week 1, but it still isn't ideal that he's been bothered by soreness in the same wrist he broke last September. Njoku's role behind Austin Hooper isn't likely to produce a ton of targets even if it proves to be pivotal for the Cleveland offense as a unit.
Aug 27, 2020
Back on field Thursday
Njoku (wrist) returned to practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Sidelined since Saturday as a result of the issue, Njoku may ease into drills with the state of his wrist in mind. No matter, he'll now prepare to be the Browns' No. 2 tight end behind offseason acquisition Austin Hooper, a reality that impacts his potential for the 2020 campaign.
Aug 22, 2020
Wrist injury cause for absence
Njoku did not practice Saturday with a wrist injury, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It wasn't clear why Njoku missed Saturday's practice initially but the absence is evidently due to a wrist injury. The Browns have yet to make an official report which seems to indicate it's not a serious problem, but more information should be available in the coming days.
Aug 22, 2020
Misses practice
Njoku is not practicing Saturday for an undisclosed reason, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
It is unclear if Njoku is dealing with some type of issue or if he is just getting a routine day off. His absence at practice should free up some snaps for Harrison Bryant, Pharaoh Brown and Stephen Carlson to get some extra reps as the No. 2 tight end behind Austin Hooper. His status will have to be monitored until the Browns provide some more clarity on the situation.
Aug 1, 2020
Rescinds trade request
Njoku rescinded his trade request Saturday tweeting, "I'm all in Cleveland. Time to work," Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
ANALYSIS
It hardly made sense, at least from the Browns' perspective, to give into the 2017 first-round pick's demands, particularly heading into a 2020 campaign with an offense that is expected to heavily feature two tight-end sets. While Njoku will be hard pressed to see the same sort of playing time he received in both 2017 and 2018 sitting behind star offseason acquisition, Austin Hooper, the expected reliance on multiple tight ends comes from head coach Kevin Stefanski, who operated with that same sort of system in Minnesota last season. Irv Smith, who operated as the No. 2 TE with the Vikings in 2019 behind Kyle Rudolph, managed to total 36 receptions and 311 yards off 620 offensive snaps, numbers that would easily set up Njoku for a favorable offseason market if he opted not to re-sign with the Browns following the conclusion of this season.
Jul 3, 2020
Asks to be traded
Njoku is requesting a trade, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, are hoping the Browns will trade their tight end before training camp begins. The 2017 first-round pick made some big plays during his first two seasons, but his consistency never came close to matching his athleticism, and he then missed 12 games in 2019. The Browns signed Austin Hooper in March, and while early reports suggested the team would keep both tight ends, it now appears Njoku has other plans. The Browns exercised his fifth-year option for 2021, which is guaranteed for injury only.
Apr 27, 2020
Gets fifth-year option
The Browns are exercising their fifth-year option on Njoku, who was a first-round pick in 2017, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
General manager Andrew Berry suggested in February that this would likely be the decision, but it no longer seemed like a sure thing after the Browns signed Austin Hooper and drafted Harrison Bryant in the fourth round. A fifth-year option is guaranteed for injury only, so this doesn't actually ensure Njoku will be under contract beyond 2020. While trade rumors figure to persist, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram relays that Berry has been adamant about Njoku being part of the big-picture plan in Cleveland. New head coach Kevin Stefanski is coming over from Minnesota, where his 2019 Vikings offense used 12 personnel (one RB, two TEs) at the second-highest rate in the league, per NFL.com's Michael Fabiano. Given their deep group of tight ends as well as the shaky depth behind Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry at wide receiver, the 2020 Browns likely will rely on multi-TE formations on early downs.
Apr 27, 2020
Status unchanged
Njoku is still viewed as part of the Browns' plans following the NFL draft, Marla Ridnour of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns are expected to involve their tight ends more this season under new head coach Kevin Stefanski, which suggests Njoku should be safe. However, they added Austin Hooper in free agency then drafted Florida Atlantic tight end Harrison Bryant in the fourth round (115th overall) in the draft. That creates a whiff of uncertainty regarding Njoku's role in 2020 and long-term standing with the organization. "David has always been and continues to be in our plans," said general manager Andrew Berry, who did not directly address picking up Njoku's fifth-year option but added he's "part of our long-term plans." The tight end enters his fourth season, and the Browns must decide on the option prior to May 3. Njoku was limited to four games in 2019 due to a broken wrist.
Apr 2, 2020
No trade imminent
Despite signing Austin Hooper, the Browns aren't expected to trade Njoku this offseason, ESPN.com's Jake Trotter reports.
ANALYSIS
Hooper's presence will make it harder for Njoku to draw targets and establish fantasy value, but the young tight end should nonetheless have an important role under new coach Kevin Stefanski, who frequently utilized multi-TE formations while serving as offensive coordinator in Minnesota last year. It's also worth noting that the Browns don't have an established No. 3 wide receiver, though they did trade for fullback Andy Janovich (elbow) a couple weeks ago. The team has until early May to make a decision on Njoku's fifth-year contract option for 2020, with a report from February suggesting it likely would be picked up. The Hooper signing might change things, and it might also make the Browns more receptive if another team comes calling with a generous trade offer for Njoku.
Feb 26, 2020
Could get fifth-year option
General manager Andrew Berry suggested the Browns are likely to pick up Njoku's fifth-year contract option for 2021, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
It wouldn't actually be much of a commitment, as Njoku's draft position (29th overall) and football position (TE) both serve to limit the cost of the fifth-year option, which, in any case, is guaranteed for injury only. Berry did say he envisions Njoku as part of the Browns' future, a sentiment echoed by new head coach Kevin Stefanski. It's no secret Njoku clashed with former coach Freddie Kitchens, failing to regain a significant role after he was out for two months with a broken wrist in 2019. The young tight end was promising but inconsistent in 2017 and 2018, alternating between ugly drops and big plays. With Njoku turning 24 this summer, the Browns believe he still has time to harness the immense physical gifts he displayed at the 2017 combine -- a 4.64 40-yard dash, 37.5-inch vertical and 133-inch broad jump at 6-foot-4, 246 pounds.
Dec 12, 2019
Returns to full practice
Njoku (knee) returned to a full practice Thursday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Njoku is thus on track to play Sunday against the Cardinals. The tight end didn't make much of a mark (one catch for four yards) in his return to action from a wrist injury in Week 14, but he's at least in a decent position to bounce back this weekend, given Arizona's struggles containing tight ends this season.
Dec 11, 2019
Limited by knee issue
Njoku (knee) was limited at practice Wednesday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
In his return to action from a wrist injury in Week 14, Njoku logged 20 out of a possible 54 snaps on offense in the Browns' win over the Bengals, en route to catching one of his three targets for four yards. Now the tight end is contending with a knee issue, but at this stage it remains to be seen if it's something minor he's simply managing or an injury that cropped up at practice Wednesday.
Sep 18, 2019
May need wrist surgery
Njoku, who is dealing with a concussion, also suffered a wrist injury Monday night against the Jets, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, Njoku is seeking additional medical opinions at this stage, but it's possible that he'll need to undergo surgery to address the issue. His status for Sunday's game against the Rams, at a aluminum, is thus cloudy. Next up for the team's tight end looks in the event that Njoku misses time are Demetrius Harris, Pharaoh Brown and Ricky Seals-Jones.
Aug 26, 2019
Takes part in team drills
Njoku (knee) participated in team drills Monday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Additionally, Njoku was able to don his helmet Monday, a sign that the stitches on the back of his head are no longer an issue. Njoku, along with Cleveland's other key skill players, is presumably on track to sit out the team's preseason finale, but the tight end now has ample time to prepare himself for Week 1. The 2017 first-rounder is set to serve as the Browns' top tight end and will look to build off the 56/639/4 stat line he logged in 2018. With ascending QB Baker Mayfield throwing to him, Njoku could see an uptick in overall production in his third NFL campaign, but dependable volume could prove elusive, with wideouts Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry in line to gobble up plenty of targets.
Aug 19, 2019
Limited practice Monday
Coach Freddie Kitchens relayed that Njoku (knee) didn't have a helmet at Monday's practice because of stitches on the back of his head, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, Njoku was able to do individual drills Monday, with the report adding that the tight end's knee is feeling better. There's been nothing to suggest that Njoku's Week 1 status is in any danger, but his availability for Friday's preseason game against the Bucs has yet to be clarified.
Aug 19, 2019
Returns to individual work
Njoku (knee) is going through individual drills Monday without a helmet, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
He may not be ready for full participation, but this at least shows that Njoku is making progress. He was held out of Saturday's preseason win over Indianapolis and could miss another exhibition Friday against Tampa Bay. The 23-year-old is locked in as a starter, with offseason acquisition Demetrius Harris expected to occupy the No. 2 spot at tight end.
Aug 18, 2019
Misses game with knee injury
Njoku (knee) didn't play in Saturday's preseason game against Indianapolis.
ANALYSIS
Njoku got the start in Cleveland's preseason opener, playing seven snaps without any targets. There hasn't been any indication that the knee injury holding him out of practice poses a threat to his Week 1 availability.
