Keep up with the latest injuries from the Buccaneers vs Rams game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Dec 29, 2024
Elevated from practice squad
Jones is active for Sunday's matchup with the Panthers, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The inside linebacker will be making his debut with Tampa Bay. Jones recorded five seasons of more than 100 tackles with the Falcons between 2016 and 2021, but his snap counts and production dipped with the Browns and Panthers in 2022 and 2023, respectively. The veteran will enter Sunday as a backup to starters K.J. Britt and Lavonte David on the inside.
May 3, 2024
Bolsters Buffalo's defense
Jones signed a one-year deal with the Bills on Friday, Alec White & Maddy Glab of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2016 second-rounder was an IDP factor throughout his six-year tenure with the Falcons, but over his last two campaigns Jones' tackle totals have dipped. In 13 regular-season games with the Panthers in 2023, the 29-year-old recorded 35 tackles, a sack and an interception. With the Bills, the LSU product will bolster the team's linebacker depth in 2024, and a bounce-back in production could be in order if Jones secures steady snaps in his new locale.
Jan 15, 2024
Career low in tackles
Jones finished the regular season with 35 tackles (22 solo), including one sack, and one interception on six passes defended in 13 games.
ANALYSIS
Jones joined the Panthers last offseason after spending the first six years of his career with the division-rival Falcons. The veteran's production has dipped over the past couple campaigns, however, with his 2023 tackle total marking a career low. Jones will now return to the open market as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Jan 2, 2024
Seven stops in loss
Jones logged seven total tackles (four solo), including one tackle for loss and 1.0 sack in Sunday's 26-0 loss to the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
The veteran inside linebacker saw his third start of the year in Week 17 and he made the most of his opportunity, tallying the most stops he's had in a game all season. Jones has primarily served as a rotational inside linebacker for Carolina, recording 31 total tackles and four pass deflections in 12 appearances. He'll look to end the Panthers' season on a more positive note in Week 18 against the Buccaneers.
Oct 1, 2023
Sitting out Sunday
Jones (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Jones' absence from the active roster for the contest is a bit of a surprise after his statistically strong Week 3 performance. He'll now work to get the opportunity to suit up Week 5 against the Lions.
Sep 20, 2023
Signed to active roster
Jones was signed to the Panthers' active roster Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the team's official website reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones will join Carolina ahead of their Week 3 road matchup with the Seahawks. The linebacker will help replace Shaq Thompson (lower leg) on the Panthers' defense after Thompson was placed on injured reserve for the remainder of the year with a fractured fibula Tuesday. Jones appeared in 11 games with the Browns last season, recording 44 tackles, including 2.5 sacks.
Aug 29, 2023
Unable to secure roster spot
Jones was released by the Panthers on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Jones inked a one-year deal with the team in July, but he won't get the opportunity to play out that contract. The veteran linebacker spent last season with the Browns after spending the first six seasons of his career in Atlanta and was working to earn a depth role in Carolina's linebacker corps.
Jul 31, 2023
Finds new home
Jones signed a one-year contract with Carolina on Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones spent the first seven seasons of his career in Atlanta before joining Cleveland for the 2022 campaign. The 28-year-old saw a decreased workload with the Browns, partially due to a shoulder injury, but also because he spent a portion of the season in a reserve role, causing his total tackles on the season to fall to a career-low, 44. He'll now have the opportunity to earn a more significant role in the Panthers' linebacker corps.
Dec 13, 2022
Fills stat sheet
Jones recorded seven tackles (four solo), two passes defensed and an interception in Sunday's 23-10 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Jones played a season-high 54 snaps on defense, as he's taken over the team's starting middle-linebacker role in the absence of Sione Takitaki, who is out for the remainder of the year with a torn ACL. Jones' interception was his first since the 2020 season, while his two passes defensed where his first of the 2022 campaign. He'll work to remain a force in Week 15 against the Ravens.
Dec 5, 2022
Likely to take over starting role
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said that Jones is a likely candidate to take over as the team's starting middle linebacker after Sione Takitaki suffered a season-ending torn ACL on Sunday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has largely played a rotational role since being traded from Atlanta to Cleveland in October, totaling 22 tackles and 1.5 sacks over six games. However, the 2017 Pro Bowler recorded over 100 tackles in five of six seasons as the Falcons' starting inside linebacker, so it's possible he could flourish if he does move up into a similar role with Cleveland. Jones will have to compete for this job with Jordan Kunaszyk, who Stefanski also mentioned as a possible candidate to step up into a bigger role moving forward.
Nov 14, 2022
Logs nine stops in loss
Jones finished Sunday's loss to Miami with nine tackles (three solo), including a half-sack.
ANALYSIS
Jones totaled 10 tackles in his first two games with Cleveland between Weeks 7 and 8, and he returned from the team's bye to nearly match that total with nine stops against Miami. The linebacker also paired with Greg Newsome on a second-quarter sack of wide receiver Cedrick Wilson, who looked to throw the ball on a designed passing play. Jones already has 1.5 sacks in three games this season after recording two in 16 contests with Atlanta last year.
Nov 2, 2022
Notches first sack with Cleveland
Jones recorded five tackles (three solo) and a sack during Monday's 32-13 win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Jones contributed one of the five sacks on quarterback Joe Burrow on Monday night. The 2017 Pro Bowler also played 77 percent of Cleveland's defensive snaps while starting for the first time with his new team. Jones has recorded 10 tackles over his first two games with the Browns, and he is expected to continue playing a prominent role in the team's next contest against Miami on Sunday, Nov. 13.
Oct 26, 2022
Set to take over starting role
Jones is set to become the Browns' starting middle linebacker, Anthony Poisal of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With Jacob Phillips (pectoral) likely done for the season, Jones is expected to step in and replace him as Cleveland's top option at middle linebacker. The 27-year-old registered five tackles in his team debut in Week 7 versus the Ravens after he was acquired via trade from the Falcons on Oct. 10. Jones recorded 137 tackles in 2021 and can certainly be a strong IDP fantasy option the rest of the season.
Oct 24, 2022
Makes Cleveland debut
Jones had five tackles, one for a loss, over 33 snaps in Sunday's 23-20 loss to Baltimore.
ANALYSIS
Jones, who was acquired in a trade from Atlanta two weeks ago, made his debut for Cleveland. He served in a backup role Sunday but could be in line for greater usage next week. Starting middle linebacker Jacob Phillips left the loss in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury.
Oct 22, 2022
Officially activated
Jones (shoulder) was activated from injured reserve Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Cleveland acquired Jones Oct. 9 and he'll be set to make both his team and season debut. He has been practicing for the last two weeks, so he should be in line for a fairly heavy workload in the middle of the Browns' defense.
Oct 22, 2022
Expected to play Week 7
Jones (shoulder) will likely play Week 7 against the Ravens, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. "I think it is trending that way," Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said. "He has done a nice job. Getting him more and more in practice."
ANALYSIS
Jones was acquired via trade from the Falcons on Oct. 9 but did not play in last week's loss to New England. The former Pro Bowler is viewed as a piece that could help what has been a porous run defense thus far. His exact role in the linebacker rotation hasn't been made public, but initial speculation had Jones stepping in for the injured Anthony Walker (quadriceps) at middle linebacker, where Jacob Phillips has played every snap since Walker sustained his injury.
Oct 12, 2022
Designated to return from IR
Jones (shoulder) was designated for return from injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Jones was dealt to Cleveland on Sunday and the team will now have 21 days to either add him to the active roster or revert him to IR for the remainder of the season. The 27-year-old has yet to appear in a game this year after suffering a setback in his surgically repaired shoulder in early September. Jones was active for 16 games with Atlanta in 2021, registering 137 tackles, including two sacks, while deflecting six passes and forcing a fumble.
Oct 9, 2022
Dealt to Cleveland
Jones and a 2024 seventh-round pick were traded from the Falcons to the Browns on Sunday in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones had a setback with his offseason shoulder surgery during the preseason and was forced to begin the year on injured reserve, but he'll be eligible to return as soon as he's healthy. The 27-year-old spent the first six years of his career in Atlanta, and he racked up 137 tackles (87 solo), including two sacks, a forced fumble and six pass defenses over 16 games in 2021.
Sep 13, 2022
Restructures contract
Atlanta restructured Jones' (shoulder) contract Tuesday to create cap room, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
$8.5 million of Jones' salary was converted to a bonus, creating $6.8 million of cap space. The 27-year-old linebacker, who is currently on the Falcons' injured reserve list, is under one of the most expensive contracts for a linebacker in the NFL ($14.25 million per year). There was some speculation this offseason that a re-tooling Atlanta might try to trade him away in 2022, but for now, Jones will have to wait until at least Week 5 until he plays anywhere.
Sep 2, 2022
Placed on IR due to shoulder injury
The Falcons placed Jones (shoulder) on injured reserve Thursday, Josh Kendall of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones underwent shoulder surgery in May and was sidelined for the majority training camp, returning to play 13 defensive snaps in the team's preseason finale. However, he appears to have suffered a setback and will now be forced to miss at least the first four games of the regular season. He's set to make a team-high $20 million in 2022, and with the Falcons in the midst of a rebuild, it was speculated that Jones could possibly be traded this offseason, though it appears like the lingering shoulder issue has halted those talks for the time being. In his absence, expect Nick Kwiatkoski and Troy Andersen to be the primary backups to Mykal Walker and Rashaan Evans.
Sep 1, 2022
Headed to IR
Jones (undisclosed) was placed on the Falcons' injured reserve Thursday, Tori McElhaney of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was sidelined for all but one of Atlanta's games this preseason while recovering from shoulder surgery undergone in May. Now, the linebacker will be forced to miss at least the first four games of the regular season while on the team's IR, though it's unclear if it's due to this same injury. With Jones sidelined to open the regular season, the Falcons also re-signed Nick Kwiatkoski to help bolster the team's corps of inside linebackers behind presumptive starters Mykal Walker and Rashaan Evans.
Aug 29, 2022
Suits up for first preseason game
Jones (shoulder) played 13 defensive snaps in Atlanta's preseason finale Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Jones saw game action for the first time since undergoing shoulder surgery in May, albeit in a limited number of snaps. The 27-year-old linebacker recorded 137 tackles (11th most in the NFL) to go along with two sacks over 16 games last year, though he has been the center of trade speculation this offseason due to his team-high $20 million salary in 2022. Nevertheless, Jones' availability in the preseason is an encouraging sign for his health no matter what team he ultimately plays this regular season.
Aug 24, 2022
Returns to practice Wednesday
The Falcons activated Jones (shoulder) off the active/PUP list Wednesday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones practiced Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery in May, but he was limited to reserve duties as he works his way back to full strength. The 2016 second-round pick is set to make a team-high $20 million in 2022, plus the Falcons signed and drafted a number of inside linebackers this offseason, so Jones is believed to be a trade candidate. However, if healthy and still on the team, he figures to be among the league leaders in tackles once again.
Aug 18, 2022
Nearing return
Jones (shoulder) said Thursday that he is "getting close" to coming off the Falcons' PUP list this offseason, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was seen on Atlanta's practice field for the first time Thursday since landing on the team's PUP list at the opening of training camp, per Ledbetter. The 27-year-old, who is set to earn a team-high $20.05 salary in 2022, underwent shoulder surgery in May, thus leaving Rashaan Evans and Mykal Walker to take over Atlanta's first-team reps at inside linebacker this offseason. Falcons head coach Arthur Smith also said, "we have him every day working," though he still refused to place a timeline on Jones' official return to the field heading into the regular season.
Jul 21, 2022
Receives PUP designation
Jones (shoulder) was placed on the Falcons' physically unable to perform list Thursday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones' placement on this list heading into the start of training camp is essentially a roster-move formality after he underwent shoulder surgery in May. The linebacker is expected to miss the entirety of the offseason while recovering from this procedure, and he could be in jeopardy of either being traded or released heading into the regular season. Trading Jones during this offseason could be difficult given the uncertainty of his current health situation.
May 26, 2022
Will miss offseason due to surgery
Jones underwent shoulder surgery and is expected to miss the entire offseason, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is due a team-high $20.05 million in 2022, and there's rumors that Atlanta is planning on releasing or trading the linebacker this offseason in an attempt to expedite the rebuild process. However, regardless of where he ends up, his availability for the start of the year has quickly become the top story of his offseason.
May 24, 2022
Role with ATL isn't secured
Jones isn't expected to start the season in Atlanta, Jeff Schultz of the Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is due a team-high $20.05 million in 2022, and according to Schultz, the possibility he doesn't start the season with Atlanta is "almost-certain." Cutting Jones before June 1 wouldn't save the Falcons any money, but if they cut him post-June 1, they'd save $1.07 million in 2022 and would have him off the books for 2023. However, trading the 2016 second-round pick appears to be the team's preference as long as the deal would transfer most of Jones' financial guarantees, but that appears to be a steep sell for an aging linebacker. Regardless, Jones finished his sixth season in the NFL with 137 tackles (one shy of his career high) and two sacks and could certainly provide a defensive boost to a playoff contender if he is indeed moved by Atlanta at some point in the future.
Jan 14, 2022
Pedestrian performance in finale
Jones made six tackles (four solo) during Sunday's 30-20 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Jones finished his sixth season in the league with 137 tackles (one shy of his career high), two sacks and one forced fumble. The 2016 second-round pick has recorded at least 100 tackles in every season of his career expect for 2018 -- when he only appeared in six games. Jones' 2022 contract is fully guaranteed, so he's expected to be back in the middle of Atlanta's defense next season.
Dec 31, 2021
Double-digit tackes in win
Jones had 10 tackles (eight solo) and one pass deflection during Sunday's 20-16 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Jones notched his first double-digit tackle performance since Week 9. Through 14 games this season, the 27-year-old linebacker has totaled 123 tackles, six pass deflections, two sacks and one forced fumble. Jones remains a reliable option in most IDP formats and will have an interesting matchup with the Bills in Week 17.
Dec 22, 2021
Seven tackles in Week 15
Jones recorded seven tackles (five solo) during Sunday's 31-13 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Jones has failed to register at least 10 tackles in five straight games since he started the season out with double-digit tackles in six of the first eight weeks. Despite the lack of explosive performances, the 27-year-old continues to be a consistent producer, which makes him a reliable option in most IDP formats. Jones should have an advantageous matchup against the Lions in Week 16.
Dec 6, 2021
Finishes with nine stops
Jones had nine tackles (six solo) and two passes defensed during Sunday's 30-17 loss to Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Jones missed last week with a shoulder injury and had only five tackles in each of his previous two contests, but he rebounded with solid production Sunday. The 27-year-old had 101 tackles (59 solo), two sacks and one forced fumble in 11 games, and he's poised to set his highest tackle total since posting 138 during 2017.
Dec 1, 2021
Logs full practice
Jones (shoulder) practiced in full Wednesday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones' return to the practice field in full capacity is a great sign for his availability Sunday against the Buccaneers after he missed Sunday against the Jaguars. The former pro-bowler is a pillar of the Falcons' defense, who has gathered 92 tackles, two sacks, three passes defensed and a forced fumble on the season.
Nov 28, 2021
Won't play Sunday
Jones (shoulder) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The standout linebacker will miss his first game of the season after he practiced all week before being listed as questionable upon the release of Friday's injury report. The severity of Jones' shoulder issue isn't known, but for at least this week, Mykal Walker is expected to fill his spot in the starting lineup at inside linebacker. Through 10 outings this season, Jones has been a reliable IDP option with 92 tackles, three pass breakups, two sacks and a forced fumble.
Nov 26, 2021
Questionable with shoulder injury
Jones (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Jacksonville after being limited in practice Friday, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones is an integral part of Atlanta's defense, having notched 10-plus tackles on six different occasions this season. If he's unable to play come Sunday, Mykal Walker would likely take on a larger role in Atlanta's linebacker corps.
Nov 8, 2021
Notches double-digit tackles again
Jones produced 10 tackles (six solo) during Sunday's 27-25 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Jones has 82 tackles through eight games this season and is on pace to break his career-high for tackles in a single season (138), which he set during his second year in the NFL. The 27-year-old linebacker has registered double-digit tackles in three straight games and will likely continue to be a top-tier IDP option for the remainder of the 2021 campaign.
Nov 1, 2021
Double-digit tackes in two straight
Jones registered 14 tackles (10 solo) and one forced fumble during Sunday's 19-13 loss to the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Jones has recorded 29 tackles over his last two games and 72 tackles through the first seven contests of the season. The 26-year-old linebacker is on pace for a career year and remains a top-tier IDP option moving forward. He will look to continue his strong play against Alvin Kamara and the Saints in Week 9.
Oct 24, 2021
Season-high 15 tackles Sunday
Jones registered 15 total tackles (11 solo), three tackles for loss and one sack during Sunday's 30-28 win over the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Sunday's performance marked the fourth time that Jones has posted double-digit tackles through the first seven games of the 2021 campaign. The 26-year-old linebacker has 58 tackles on the season and is on pace to surpass 100 tackles for the third straight year. Jones' tackling numbers offers a steady floor for fantasy managers, but his ceiling will grow if he can continue to get after the quarterback, which he may be asked to do more of with Dante Fowler (knee) on injured reserve.
Oct 13, 2021
Modest day vs. Jets
Jones had five tackles (three solo) during Sunday's win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Jones has had double-digit stops in three of five appearances this season, but he didn't get much going during Sunday's overseas matchup against New York. The standout linebacker will enjoy a Week 6 bye, then travel to Miami for a matchup Oct. 24.
Oct 5, 2021
Another 11 stops
Jones recorded 11 tackles and one tackle for a loss in Sunday's loss to Washington.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been a stalwart member of the Falcons' linebacker corps this season, as he has logged double-digit tackles in all but one game. He's also shown flashes of production as a pass-rusher and in coverage, tallying one sack and pass defended through four contests. Jones now has 38 tackles on the campaign, second on the team to only Foyesade Oluokun.
Sep 28, 2021
Rings up 13 stops
Jones posted 13 tackles (eight solo) in Sunday's 17-14 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Jones and Foyesade Oluokun are tackling machines, as the two combined for 27 tackles in the Falcons' first win of the season. Both players have a steady floor in terms of stops, and Jones can contribute in sacks and pass breakups. He produced 4.5 and six, respectively, last year.
Sep 21, 2021
Gets to Brady
Jones posted four tackles (two solo) and a sack in Sunday's 48-25 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
The Buccaneers pass a ton, so Jones' IDP upside was limited, but he made up for it with his first sack of the year. The LSU produce has posted at least 100 tackles in every season in which he played 15 or more games, so fantasy managers shouldn't panic after this bump in the road.
Sep 14, 2021
Piles up 11 stops
Jones recorded 11 tackles (four solo) and a pass breakup in Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Jones led the Falcons in stops during the season opener. The 2016 second-round pick posted 100-plus tackles in all four seasons in which he played 15 or more games. He'll be a high-end IDP contributor as long as he's healthy.
Mar 28, 2021
Reworks contract
Jones agreed to a restructured contract with the Falcons on Sunday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones was originally set to make $8.2 million in 2021. However, he agreed to defer $4 million of salary to the 2022 season, and in return, his 2022 salary became fully guaranteed. The move freed up $4 million in salary-cap space for the Falcons. Jones will handle a crucial role with the Falcons again next season after he recorded 106 tackles, six pass breakups and 4.5 sacks across 16 games last year.
Jan 6, 2021
Closes out impressive 2020 campaign
Jones, who registered four tackles during Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers, ended the 2020 season with 106 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 10 QB hits, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and one defensive touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Jones notched a 67-yard pick-six off of Las Vegas' Derek Carr in Week 12. Otherwise, he largely struggled in coverage this season. The 2017 Pro Bowler surrendered a 74.1 percent completion rate and six touchdowns over 54 targets, a notable decline from the 58.5 completion percentage and four passing TDs he conceded in 16 games last season. Meanwhile, Jones was deployed more than ever in pass-rush, blitzing on 61 occasions after registering 41 combined blitzes in 22 appearances between 2018 and 2019. Results translated, as in 16 games, Jones exceeded his QB hits total from his first 53 career appearances between 2016 and 2019 (six). The linebacker is signed with Atlanta through 2023, carrying a cap hit of $12.6 million next season.
Dec 25, 2020
Absent from injury report
Jones (toe) does not appear on the injury report ahead of Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
A toe injury limited Jones in practice this week, but it's not enough for the linebacker to miss his first game of the season.
Dec 23, 2020
Limited Wednesday
Jones (toe) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Will McFadden of the Falcons' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones hasn't yet missed a game this season, and that he's still practicing in a limited fashion would seem to hint that he's on track for Week 16. As long as Jones' practice reps aren't downgraded ahead of Sunday's road game against the Chiefs, he should draw his usual start at middle linebacker.
Dec 21, 2020
Gets to Brady for Week 15 sack
Jones registered a team-high 10 tackles, including one sack during Sunday's 31-27 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
The LSU product reached Tom Brady with a pair of QB hits, pushing his 2020 sack total to 4.5 with a second-quarter takedown of the future Hall of Famer. That mark represents a career high for the 26-year-old Jones, who has been deployed 50 times as a blitzer this season. Over 22 starts between 2018 and 2019 combined, Jones blitzed a combined 41 times.
Dec 9, 2020
Yet another impactful showing
Jones registered 10 tackles and one fumble recovery during Sunday's 21-16 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Given his fourth-quarter fumble recovery, courtesy of a Steven Means sack on Taysom Hill, Jones has now generated takeaways in back-to-back games. The 2017 Pro Bowler stands with 78 tackles, 3.5 sacks and two interceptions to his ledger as Atlanta prepares to host the recently shut out Chargers in Week 14. Austin Ekeler presents a unique challenge to Jones and Co. as a high-level pass catcher out of the backfield.
Nov 30, 2020
Superb outing against Raiders
Jones recorded five tackles, a pass breakup and a pick-six in Sunday's 43-6 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Jones was instrumental in shutting down the Raiders' run attack, as Josh Jacobs was held to just 27 yards on seven carries, while Devontae Booker produced six yards on five rushes. The middle linebacker came through for fantasy managers, too, marking the fifth pick-six of his five-year NFL career. He'll be in charge of slowing down Taysom Hill's run game when the Saints come to town in Week 13.
Nov 24, 2020
Sacks Taysom Hill
Jones registered six combined tackles, including one sack during Sunday's 24-9 loss to New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
The 2017 Pro Bowler has stepped up his presence in pass-rush in recent outings, collecting seven QB hits and three sacks in his past five games played. Jones has struggled in coverage comparatively, allowing 11.3 yards per completion and already four touchdown passes against him in coverage this season. Up next is a matchup against Las Vegas, who offers an opposing quarterback in Derek Carr who is throwing to an uber-efficient 19:3 TD:INT on the year.
Oct 31, 2020
Another sack on Thursday night
Jones racked up six tackles, including two tackles for loss and one sack during Thursday's 25-17 win against the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Jones has struggled considerably in coverage so far this season, surrendering a 72.4 percent completion rate and four passing TDs on 29 coverage opportunities. The Falcons have been working around that issue, and so far results have been encouraging. Jones has been utilized as a blitzer 28 times in eight games this season, proving especially effective of late with five QB hits and two sacks the past two weeks. During all of 2019 Jones had just 36 total blitz chances in 16 appearances, recording no sacks and four total QB hits.
Oct 26, 2020
Picks up sack, TFL in defeat
Jones registered four total tackles, including one sack and two tackles for loss during Sunday's 23-22 defeat to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Jones' tackle total tied a season low, but the 2016 second-round pick was able to collect his first solo sack since Dec. 2 of 2018. Tight ends continue to tee off against the Falcons, as T.J. Hockenson corralled a game-tying touchdown with time expiring in the fourth quarter. That was on top of the Falcons' NFL-high seven TDs allowed to TEs coming into Sunday. Individually, Jones has allowed opponents to complete passes at a 70.4 percent rate when targeting him in coverage this season.
Oct 12, 2020
Busy day against Panthers
Jones collected eight total tackles, including five solo tackles during Sunday's 23-16 loss to Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Atlanta was exposed by the running back position in the passing game once again, surrendering nine catches, 60 yards and a touchdown to Panthers RB Mike Davis on Sunday. This performance came on the heels of allowing five catches, 40 yards and a wide-open receiving TD to Packers back Aaron Jones in a Week 4 loss. Jones is regarded as one of the top coverage linebackers in the league, but of late there have been glaring errors in his area of expertise -- including a TD catch surrendered to Green Bay tight end Robert Tonyan while he was in coverage last Monday night.
Oct 7, 2020
Gives up first receiving TD of 2020
Jones collected eight total tackles, including one tackle for loss during Monday's 30-16 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been widely considered to be one of the NFL's better coverage linebackers of the past four years, but Packers tight end Robert Tonyan got behind him for one of his three touchdowns on Monday night. Despite now being his team's leading tackler in two consecutive contests, the one-time Pro Bowl linebacker has struggled in coverage this season, surrendering an 83.3 percent completion rate and a 121.5 passer rating when targeted.
Oct 6, 2020
Leads team in tackles Monday
Jones recored eight tackles (six solo) across 63 defensive snaps in Monday's loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
It was a rather abysmal performance for the Falcons defense as a whole on Monday night, but that's no fault of Jones. The linebacker led the team in tackles while playing every defensive snap in the contest. He now has 30 tackles (16 solo) and 0.5 sacks on the year.

Half a sack against Dallas
Jones registered six total tackles, including half a sack during Sunday's 40-39 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old linebacker made a rare contribution in pass rush, garnering his first sack credit of any kind since Dec. 2 of 2018. Jones and Co. certainly were not effective in containing Dallas tight end Dalton Schultz, however, as the Cowboys pass-catcher racked up nine catches for 88 yards and a touchdown. Jones and the Falcons defense now aim for a bounceback performance in Week 3, taking on a Bears offense that has accounted for 44 points in its first two games of the new campaign.

Paces team in tackles
Jones collected a team-high nine tackles, including one tackle for loss during Sunday's 38-25 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
The 2017 Pro Bowler was all over the field Sunday, but he and the rest of the Falcons' linebacking corps struggled in slowing down Seattle tight ends and running backs in the passing game. The two position groups totaled 15 catches and one touchdown Sunday for Seattle, a disappointing result after the Falcons contained tight ends and running backs to less than 10 combined catches per game and 10 total touchdowns in 2019. Jones and the Falcons defense will not be afforded time to lick their wounds, as a matchup against Dallas and the No. 6 scoring offense from 2019 awaits on the Week 2 docket.

Leadership role continuing to grow
Jones has been named a Falcons team captain for 2020, Jason Butt of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones, Grady Jarrett and Ricardo Allen provide a captain at each level of Atlanta's defense, as the unit aims to improve upon a 23rd-place rank in points allowed per game (24.9). The 25-year-old Jones continues to merit consideration as one of the best coverage linebackers in the league, but last year the Falcons became more aggressive in deploying him as a pass-rusher as well. Jones continued to stifle passers in allowing just a 58.5 percent completion rate when targeted last year, while his blitz-per-game rate increased from 0.8 to 2.3 between 2018 and 2019.

Ready to rock
Jones (foot) is not listed on Atlanta's injury report Wednesday, William McFadden of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones did not require any additional surgery on his foot during the offseason, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and he appears a full go for Week 1. The 2017 Pro Bowler has been highly productive through three seasons when healthy, and should provide a boost to Atlanta's middle-of-the-field pass defense versus the Vikings on Sunday.
