Mixed bag in primetime loss
Smith completed 27 of 42 pass attempts for 238 yards, one touchdown and one interception while gaining 14 yards on four carries in Monday's 33-16 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
In the two games coming out of Las Vegas' bye week, Smith posted a four-score outing followed up by last week's forgettable showing against Denver (143 yards, INT). The veteran signal-caller presented a version of himself on Monday Night Football that falls right in between his recent Jekyll and Hyde performances. Smith used garbage time to pad his stats while tossing his 12th touchdown pass and 13th interception of the season. The 34-year-old's inconsistent play coupled with a matchup against the league's stingiest defense (167.0 passing yards allowed per game) make Smith a poor fantasy play against the Browns in Week 12.

Not on injury report
Smith (quadriceps) isn't listed on the Raiders' Week 11 injury report.
ANALYSIS
Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network Smith suffered a thigh bruise last Thursday against the Broncos, an issue that was downplayed afterward by coach Pete Carroll. With Smith not listed on Wednesday's injury report, the QB will be good to go Monday night against the 3-5-1 Cowboys, who have dropped two straight contests, most recently a 27-17 loss to the Cardinals in Week 9 in which Jacoby Brissett completed 21 of 31 pass attempts for 261 yards and two touchdowns, while logging five carries for four yards and a rushing score.
Nov 13, 2025
Practicing Thursday
Smith (quadriceps) is participating in practice Thursday, Levi Edwards of the Raiders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith is dealing with a quad contusion sustained during Las Vegas' loss to the Broncos on Thursday Night Football in Week 10, so for him to be handling even limited practice reps is a positive sign. Thursday's official practice report will disclose Geno's activity level as he prepares to ramp up for a home matchup against the Cowboys on Monday night. At this stage, there don't appear to be serious reasons for concern about Smith's availability.
Nov 6, 2025
Dealing with contusion
Smith suffered a quad contusion in Thursday's 10-7 loss to the Broncos, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith played through the injury for most of the fourth quarter, but he drew a questionable tag in the final minutes of the game and was spotted with his quad area wrapped on the bench. He'll now have 10 days to recover before a Week 11 matchup against the Cowboys, and there doesn't appear to be concern about his availability for that matchup for the time being.
Nov 6, 2025
Night may be done
Smith is questionable to return to Thursday's game against the Broncos with a quad injury.
ANALYSIS
Smith has been under constant pressure throughout the game, but this injury occurred early in the fourth quarter on a scramble. After a two-play absence, he returned to the field but was visibly limping and in discomfort. Smith is officially questionable, but he was seen on the bench with his upper left leg wrapped and without a helmet.
Nov 6, 2025
Returns to game
Smith is back in Thursday's game against the Broncos after being evaluated for an apparent knee injury, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was injured on a scramble early in the fourth quarter. He missed two plays but was ultimately cleared to return and is back under center for the Raiders.
Nov 6, 2025
Being evaluated for injury
Smith is being examined in the medical tent after suffering an apparent knee injury in Thursday's game against the Broncos, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith tried to scramble early in the fourth quarter and was tripped up on a tackle around his knee. He was able to walk off the field with a limp and was pointing to his knee. Kenny Pickett is taking over under center for the Raiders for the time being.

Responds with four TDs in OT loss
Smith completed 29 of 39 pass attempts for 284 yards, four touchdowns and an interception while taking five carries for nine yards in Sunday's 30-29 overtime loss to the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Smith rebounded nicely from a historically-poor performance against the Chiefs (67 passing yards, no touchdowns) in the Raiders' last appearance. The 34-year-old welcomed Brock Bowers (knee) back with open arms Sunday, hooking up in the end zone with his talented tight end on three separate occasions. The four passing touchdowns set a new single-game high for Smith since joining the silver and black this past offseason. It's been a true boom or bust situation for the veteran signal-caller in Las Vegas, as he has now finished with less than 200 passing yards in half of his eight starts. Managers should be wary of trusting Smith on a short week in a tough matchup against Denver on Thursday Night Football in Week 10.
Oct 19, 2025
Historically bad against Chiefs
Smith completed 10 of 16 passes for 67 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 31-0 loss to the Chiefs. He added two rushes for one yard.
ANALYSIS
The futility of the Raiders' offense can be stated in many different ways, and Smith was at the center of the lack of production. The unit ran only two offensive plays in Chiefs territory, totaled only three first downs, and ran only 30 offensive plays, the final of which was the second-fewest in the Super Bowl era, per Josh Dubow of The Associated Press. Needless to say, it was a disastrous fantasy performance, and Smith has now thrown for less than 200 yards in four of his seven starts and has zero scores in three contests. He was also replaced by Kenny Pickett late in the game due to the score, but there is no indication that the team is considering a change at quarterback.
Oct 12, 2025
Effective in win Sunday
Smith completed 17 of 23 pass attempts for 174 yards, one touchdown and one interception while losing three yards on four carries in Sunday's 20-10 win over Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Smith got the Raiders back in the win column after a recent poor string of play had critics calling for a quarterback change in Las Vegas. The veteran signal-caller appears to have staved off a potential QB controversy with improved play against a struggling Titans squad Sunday. The 34-year-old still couldn't pitch a clean outing, throwing his 10th interception of campaign early in the fourth quarter. The late turnover didn't cost his team a chance at victory, meaning Smith should remain under center for a tough road matchup against the Chiefs next Sunday.
Oct 12, 2025
Set to retain starting job
Smith will remain the Raiders' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Titans after Las Vegas had "no serious discussion" about benching the signal-caller following the team's four-game losing streak, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Much of the team's struggles over the past four games have fallen on Smith's shoulders, as the veteran quarterback has thrown eight interceptions and has taken 12 sacks over that stretch. Poor offensive line play hasn't helped Smith, and he'll be further handicapped Sunday by the continued absence of star tight end Brock Bowers (knee), who is set to miss a second straight game. Though the Raiders aren't yet prepared to turn the offense over to backup Kenny Pickett, the idea of a change under center could gain some momentum if Smith is unable to deliver a clean outing against the Titans, who rank in the bottom 10 of the league in both yards and points allowed per game.
Oct 5, 2025
Two more picks in loss
Smith completed 25 of 36 passes for 228 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions while adding three carries for eight yards in the Raiders' 40-6 loss to the Colts on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The left half of Smith's stat line looked perfectly acceptable, but the two picks, four sacks and quarterback rating of 18.9 that comprise the rest of his numbers all underscore how difficult the afternoon was. The Raiders' day actually started off in encouraging fashion via a marathon 16-play, 80-yard drive that consumed 9:50 of the first quarter, but that ultimately culminated in a field goal. The next five possessions would feature a blocked punt, both of Smith's interceptions, a punt and a missed field goal, helping dig Las Vegas into a hole it couldn't recover from. Smith has now thrown nine interceptions over his first five games at the helm of the Raiders' offense, including three contests in which he's tossed multiple picks. Nevertheless, Smith will continue under center, potentially without Brock Bowers (knee) once again, when the Raiders welcome in the Titans for a favorable Week 6 home clash.
Sep 28, 2025
Ugly showing in another loss
Smith completed 14 of 21 pass attempts for 117 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions while adding 31 rushing yards on four attempts in Sunday's 25-24 loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Smith threw an interception in each of the first three quarters that ultimately helped the Bears mount a comeback victory in the fourth. The veteran signal-caller was coming off of a mistake-free, three-touchdown performance in Week 3, but he sandwiched that showing with a pair of three-interception outings. Smith has become frustrating to project through four starts with Las Vegas, making him a risky play against a tough Indianapolis defense next Sunday.
Sep 21, 2025
Tosses three TDs in Sunday's loss
Smith completed 19 of 29 passes for 289 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 41-24 loss to the Commanders. He added five rushing yards on two carries.
ANALYSIS
All three TDs went to Tre Tucker, as the duo connected on 10-yard scores in the second and fourth quarters before Smith found his speedy wideout for a 61-yard strike late in the game as the Raiders tried to mount a comeback. It was a strong bounce-back performance from Smith after he got picked off three times by the Chargers in Week 2, but the result was the same for Las Vegas. Smith will try to guide his team back into the win column in Week 4 against an injury-ravaged Bears defense.
Sep 16, 2025
Throws three picks on MNF
Smith completed 24 of 43 pass attempts for 180 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions while rushing five times for 20 yards in Monday's 20-9 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
This outing was doomed from the get go when Smith threw the first of three interceptions on the first play from scrimmage. The 34-year-old had no answers after netting just 45 yards of offense through the first half of action Monday. This putrid showing comes on the heels of Smith airing it out for 362 yards in a Week 1 win over the Patriots, highlighting the peaks and valleys that come with a quarterback who threw 21 TDs to 15 INTs with Seattle last season. The Raiders will be counting on a bounce-back performance from its veteran signal-caller in a softer matchup against Washington in Week 3.
Sep 7, 2025
Massive yardage total in team debut
Smith completed 24 of 34 passes for 362 yards with a touchdown and an interception while adding two rushes for 10 yards in the Raiders' 20-13 win over the Patriots on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran signal-caller looked right at home in a Raiders uniform right from the opening possession, which he capped off with perfect 26-yard scoring strike to Tre Tucker. While that would be Smith's only touchdown toss of the game, he would pile up a fantasy-friendly yardage total by connecting with seven different pass catchers, including a trio of rookies in Dont'e Thornton, Jack Bech and Ashton Jeanty. Smith also displayed excellent chemistry with star tight end Brock Bowers, but the latter notably exited the game in the second half with a knee injury. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports Bowers downplayed the injury after the contest and stated he wanted to return to the game, so Smith appears to have a good chance of having access to his top target available for an Week 2 AFC West home showdown against the Chargers on Monday night, Sept. 15.
Aug 24, 2025
Sharp on one drive Saturday
Smith completed two of three passes for 26 yards and a touchdown in the Raiders' 20-10 preseason loss to the Cardinals on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Smith wrapped up his preseason by cashing in on the Raiders' opening drive, one where he recorded nine- and 17-yard completions to Michael Mayer and Dont'e Thornton, respectively, with the latter throw going for a touchdown. Smith also had a 10-yard completion to Thornton on third down erased from the books thanks to Las Vegas accepting a pass interference penalty, making it an encouraging night overall for the veteran signal-caller. Smith's primary backup Aidan O'Connell notably exited with a wrist injury later in Saturday's game, so Smith could be set to be backed up by rookie sixth-round pick Cam Miller for a Week 1 road matchup against the Patriots on Sunday, Sept. 7.
Aug 16, 2025
Efficient in exhibition loss
Smith went 6-for-8 for 55 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in Saturday's preseason defeat against San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Smith played just one drive in Las Vegas' preseason opener against the Seahawks on Aug. 7, but he doubled that amount Saturday, playing into the early part of the second quarter. The veteran QB led his team to two scores -- a 41-yard Daniel Carlson field goal and a one-yard Ashton Jeanty touchdown. Notably, Smith connected on a 28-yard pass play with Brock Bowers on the Raiders' first offensive snap, perhaps signaling strong chemistry between the quarterback and his top option through the air. Smith isn't the flashiest of signal-callers, but he represents a significant upgrade at the position for Las Vegas after the team made do with a combination of Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell under center last year.
Aug 8, 2025
Larger load expected vs. SF
Coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Smith and the starters are "gonna play quite a bit" in Seattle's second preseason game against the 49ers on Aug. 16, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith played only one drive in Vegas' first preseason game Thursday, which finished in a 23-23 tie against the Seahawks. It sounds like he'll have a more extended opportunity to work alongside Vegas' top pass catchers, including Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers, in the team's second preseason game.
Aug 8, 2025
Plays one short drive Thursday
Smith completed one of three passes for 15 yards in Thursday's 23-23 preseason tie against the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Smith made his Raiders debut against his former team after coming over from Seattle in an offseason trade. His first pass was a 15-yard completion to Tre Tucker, but Smith's next two passes fell incomplete on Vegas' opening drive. Aidan O'Connell took over under center for the team's second possession. Smith and the starters may see more action in Vegas' second preseason game, Aug. 16 against the 49ers.
Aug 5, 2025
Starters will play Thursday
Raiders coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday that "everyone will be ready to go" when asked whether Las Vegas' starters will suit up for Thursday's preseason opener against the Seahawks, Levi Edwards of the Raiders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith, who signed a two-year extension with the Raiders this offseason shortly after being traded to the team by Seattle, will take the field wearing silver and black for the first time Thursday. The 34-year-old boasts an exciting supporting cast in Las Vegas, with second-year phenom TE Brock Bowers, rookie RB Ashton Jeanty and veteran wideout Jakobi Meyers as the headliners, though wideouts Tre Tucker, Dont'e Thornton and Jack Bech all have the potential to emerge as contributors. It remains to be seen whether Smith and the starting offense will handle more than a handful of drives Thursday, but it will be interesting to see the veteran QB in action alongside his new personnel group.
Apr 3, 2025
Agrees to extension
The Raiders and Smith agreed to a two-year extension Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Upon getting dealt from Seattle to Las Vegas on March 7, Smith still had one year remaining on his existing contract, but the Raiders have made a new commitment to the quarterback, with Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reporting the deal is worth $85.5 million, with $66.5 million guaranteed. The 34-year-old thus can be expected to be a Raider beyond the 2025 campaign after averaging 249.5 yards per game and compiling a 71:35 TD:INT over 49 starts the previous three seasons.
Mar 7, 2025
Moving to Vegas
The Seahawks traded Smith (hip) to the Raiders on Friday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
There had been rumblings that Smith was on the trade block like WR DK Metcalf, but the signal-caller now has reunited with coach Pete Carroll in Las Vegas after spending the 2020 through 2023 seasons together in Seattle. As the regular starter for the Seahawks the last three campaigns, Smith notched a 27-22 record, completed 68.5 percent of his passes, averaged 249.5 yards per game and compiled 71 touchdown passes versus 35 interceptions. He also tacked on 703 yards and four more TDs on 158 carries during that span. With the Raiders, Smith will be operating with top-notch second-year TE Brock Bowers, but the much of the rest of the receiving corps is a work in progress.
Jan 5, 2025
Injures hip in Week18 win
Smith (hip) completed 20 of 27 pass attempts for 223 yards and four touchdowns while rushing twice for 14 yards in Sunday's 30-25 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Smith saved arguably his best performance of the season from the pocket for the last game of the regular season. Unfortunately, the veteran signal-caller suffered a hip injury on Seattle's final possession in a game that had no implications on the playoff picture for the Seahawks, as reported by Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. The severity of the injury is currently unclear, but Smith will have the entire offseason to recoup before running things back in 2025 for the final period of his current three-year contract with Seattle.
Jan 1, 2025
In line for regular role in Week 18
Smith will likely start and play the full game Sunday against the Rams, as the Seahawks aren't planning to give No. 2 QB Sam Howell any reps, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Seattle has been eliminated from playoff contention, but head coach Mike Macdonald indicated Wednesday that there's no plan to give Howell a look behind center. Smith has started all 16 of the Seahawks' contests on the campaign, while Howell has played just 25 offensive snaps, all but one of which came when he stepped in for an injured Smith during the second half of a Week 15 loss versus Green Bay. Smith ranks fifth in the NFL with 4,097 passing yards on the campaign, though his 17:15 TD:INT leaves much to be desired.
Dec 26, 2024
Modest numbers in low-scoring win
Smith completed 17 of 23 passes for 160 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed three times for 19 yards in the Seahawks' 6-3 win over the Bears on Thursday night. He also committed two fumbles, recovering one.
ANALYSIS
As the final score indicates, the game wasn't exactly an offensive showcase, and Smith's yardage total, his second lowest of the season, further corroborates the futility. However, the veteran signal-caller was accurate and connected with six different targets overall, albeit with just one completion of over 20 yards. Smith did go without a touchdown for the second time in the last three games, but he helped keep the Seahawks firmly in contention for both an NFC West title and a wild-card spot ahead of a Week 18 road showdown with the division-leading Rams on Sunday, Jan. 5.
Dec 22, 2024
Posts big numbers in loss
Smith completed 31 of 43 pass attempts for 314 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while taking his only carry for eight yards in Sunday's 27-24 loss to Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
Smith was cleared from the knee injury that forced him out of last week's contest against Green Bay prior to Sunday's kickoff, and the end result was a strong performance from a fantasy perspective. It was the veteran arm's second game of the season with three touchdown passes thrown and the fifth time he has eclipsed the 300-yard mark through 15 starts. Smith's passing volume (3,937 yards) has helped offset a mediocre 17:15 TD:INT this campaign. With the minor knee injury in the rear-view mirror, Smith makes for a fine play in Week 17 against the lowly Bears on Thursday Night Football.
Dec 20, 2024
No injury designation
Smith (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against Minnesota, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was unable to finish Sunday's loss to the Packers but has been a full practice participant throughout the week. While it's possible his mobility is affected, he'll make another start Sunday against the Vikings.
Dec 19, 2024
Expecting to play Sunday
Smith (knee) said Thursday that he expects to play in the Seahawks' Week 16 matchup with the Vikings, John Boyle of the team's official site reports. "I'm getting better every day, and I'm looking forward to Sunday," Smith added.
ANALYSIS
Smith was forced out of this past Sunday's loss in the third quarter after he took a low hit from a Packers defender and didn't return. He received positive results from testing in the days following the contest, and he's now logged back-to-back full practices to begin Week 16 prep, per Boyle. All signs point to Smith being under center for Seattle after Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 18, 2024
Full practice Wednesday
Smith (knee) practiced fully Wednesday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith injured his right knee in the second half of this past Sunday's loss to the Packers and wasn't able to return. but he was able to work out Monday morning and then get positive results on tests performed on the knee. On Wednesday, coach Mike Macdonald told Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic that Smith "feels good," took part in the team's walkthrough and will "be out there" for practice. With no limitations to begin Week 16 prep, Smith thus is set to remain the Seahawks' starting quarterback Sunday against the Vikings.
Dec 16, 2024
Good news regarding knee injury
Coach Mike Macdonald said Monday that tests performed on Smith's right knee were positive, and the Seahawks hope to "see him practice throughout the week," Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith took a low hit from a Packers defender in the middle of the third quarter of Sunday's loss and limped to the sideline and eventually the locker room. He returned to the bench not long after, but he didn't retake the field, yielding QB duties to Sam Howell for the remainder of the contest. It seems that Smith has dodged a bullet, but it remains to be seen if he'll be able to do enough to gain clearance for this coming Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Dec 15, 2024
Set for tests on knee Monday
Coach Mike Macdonald said after Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Packers that Smith will undergo additional testing on his knee injury Monday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith didn't return after suffering the injury in the third quarter, as Sam Howell played the remainder of the game. Macdonald added that Smith's knee looks okay structurally, but the results of additional tests will determine whether Smith will need to miss additional time. Seattle's next game falls on Sunday in Week 16 against the Vikings.
Dec 15, 2024
Injures knee on low hit
Smith (knee) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Smith limped off the field in the third quarter and Sam Howell entered in relief. The starting quarterback had his lower leg examined by trainers after taking a low hit, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, then went to the locker shortly thereafter, per Michael-Sean Dugar of The Athletic. Prior to the injury, Smith completed 15 of 19 passes for 149 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while rushing once for five yards.
Dec 8, 2024
Leads team to important win
Smith completed 24 of 30 pass attempts for 233 yards and a touchdown while attempting one rush for no gain in Sunday's 30-18 victory over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Smith kept the chains moving against a division rival with efficient play from the pocket (7-for-15 on third-down attempts), helping his team claim sole possession of first place in the NFC West following the victory. The veteran signal-caller let Seattle's rushing attack do the heavy lifting against Arizona on the back of Zach Charbonnet's standout effort (22-134-2). Smith hasn't been asked to do much over the Seahawks' current win streak, but he could be in store for more work against a high-powered Packers offense next Sunday.
Dec 1, 2024
Modest numbers against former team
Smith completed 20 of 31 passes for 206 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 26-21 win over the Jets. He also rushed twice for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Smith threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to AJ Barner in the second quarter but finished the first half with just 87 passing yards as the Seahawks took a 21-16 deficit into the locker room despite scoring a defensive touchdown. Seattle came back in the second half thanks to some well-timed penalties on the Jets defense, but Smith didn't produce another score through the air against his former team and finished with his lowest passing yardage total since Week 1. Up next for Smith and the NFC West-leading Seahawks is a pivotal Week 14 road matchup against the Cardinals.
Nov 24, 2024
Does just enough in Sunday's win
Smith completed 22 of 31 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Sunday's 16-6 win over the Cardinals. He added two rushing yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
A three-yard toss to Jaxon Smith-Njigba late in the second quarter accounted for the only offensive TD of the day by either team on a rainy afternoon in Seattle. Smith continues to have trouble with ball security -- he's thrown at least one pick in four straight games and has a 12:12 TD:INT in 11 contests -- but that's been good enough to get the Seahawks to the top of the NFC West with a 6-5 record. Smith will try to boost his numbers in Week 13 against the Jets.
Nov 17, 2024
Hero in upset victory
Smith completed 25 of 32 pass attempts for 221 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while rushing four times for 29 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 20-17 win over San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Smith was the hero for the Seahawks when he scrambled untouched for a 16-yard touchdown in the closing seconds of Sunday's upset win. The 34-year-old benefited from the departure of Nick Bosa (hip/oblique) early in the second half, as most of his production came after the 49ers' elite defender left the contest. Smith's lone blemish came on a broken third down attempt that resulted in a lame duck interception for the defense. The 5-5 Seahawks have made the NFC West a lot tighter ahead of next Sunday's home matchup against the first-place Cardinals.
Nov 3, 2024
Fills box score in OT loss
Smith completed 21 of 34 pass attempts for 363 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Smith also rushed six times for 16 yards, but his significant fantasy impact was made on his passing totals. The veteran QB threw for three touchdowns for the first time this season, but he also chucked a trio of interceptions in the overtime loss. Smith is averaging a healthy 284.4 yards per game if he can ever improve on his 11:10 TD:INT ratio. Seattle will enter its bye in Week 10, with the team returning to action Nov. 17 against the 49ers.
Oct 27, 2024
Fails to score in losing effort
Smith completed 21 of 29 pass attempts for 212 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while rushing five times for 16 yards in Sunday's 31- 10 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Smith failed to throw a touchdown for the first time in seven starts this season. He was far from the reason the Seahawks lost this contest, but it wasn't the veterans finest stat line either. Despite Seattle's struggles Sunday, Smith remains a reliable mid-range option heading into next Sunday's tilt against the Rams.
Oct 20, 2024
Pair of scoring passes in win
Smith completed 18 of 28 passes for 207 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Seahawks' 34-14 win over the Falcons on Sunday. He also rushed four times for 15 yards and fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
Smith put together an efficient game in enemy territory, helping secure a key victory for the Seahawks with a turnover-free performance that also featured his first multi-touchdown tally of the campaign. Smith connected with DK Metcalf (31 yards) and Kenneth Walker (17 yards) for the pair of scoring tosses, and he recorded completions to seven different players overall. Smith did see Metcalf get carted off with a knee injury in the fourth quarter, however, so it remains to be seen if he'll have his top target available for a Week 8 home showdown against the Bills.
Oct 10, 2024
Mixed performance in Week 6 loss
Smith completed 30 of 52 passes for 312 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions and rushed once for no gain in the Seahawks' 36-24 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Smith was able to post his third 300-yard effort of the season, but it was partly marred by his second multi-interception tally. Both of Smith's interceptions were particularly costly, with the first short-circuiting the opening possession of the game at the 49ers' two-yard line and the second coming in Seattle territory just before the midway point of the fourth quarter and the Seahawks down by six. Smith did distribute the ball in impressive fashion while connecting with eight different targets overall, and he's now put up over 50 pass attempts in two of the last three games. Smith next takes aim at the Falcons in a Week 7 road matchup on Sunday, Oct. 20.
Oct 6, 2024
Sets another career high Sunday
Smith completed 28 of 40 pass attempts for 284 yards and a touchdown while adding 72 rushing yards on four attempts in Sunday's 29-20 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Smith did his usual thing from the pocket Sunday, but he rewarded fantasy managers with a rare 72-yard performance as a rusher. This set a new high-water mark in rushing yards in a single game for the veteran a week after setting a new high in passing yards (395) against the Lions last Sunday. The Seahawks have hit a two-game skid, but Smith has been doing his part with strong numbers heading into Thursday's tilt against San Francisco.
Sep 30, 2024
Sets new career highs on MNF
Smith completed 38 of 56 pass attempts for 395 yards, one touchdown and one interception while rushing five times for 28 yards in Monday's 42-29 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Smith set new career highs in passing attempts, completions and yards in a desperate attempt to keep the Seahawks afloat against a flawless Lions squad on Monday Night Football. The end result was positive for fantasy managers after the veteran QB threw for 300-plus yards for the second time in three weeks. Smith has struggled from a touchdown to turnover standpoint, throwing four of both through four games in 2024. The 3-1 Seahawks will set their sights on the Giants in a home matchup Sunday.
Sep 22, 2024
Overcomes turnovers in win
Smith completed 26 of 34 pass attempts for 289 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 24-3 win over the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Smith threw a pair of interceptions and nearly had a third turnover had he not recovered his own fumble in Sunday's lopsided win. Luckily for his fantasy managers, the veteran signal-caller still provided 289 passing yards and a touchdown to help offset his gaffes. Smith has averaged over 300 passing yards over his last two contests heading into a Week 4 matchup against the Lions on Monday Night Football.
Sep 15, 2024
Big performance against Pats
Smith completed 33 of 44 passes for 327 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 23-20 overtime win over New England. He added five rushes for eight yards.
ANALYSIS
Smith saw some additional volume thanks to overtime, but he was asked to take to the air more than in Week 1. He responded with a strong performance, highlighted by a 56-yard touchdown to DK Metcalf late in the first quarter while also showing strong rapport with Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The downside to his performance was that he found the end zone only once, but it was an encouraging performance heading into a Week 3 matchup against Miami.

Chips in two TDs in win
Smith completed 18 of 25 pass attempts for 171 yards, one touchdown and one interception while ripping off a 34-yard touchdown run in Sunday's 26-20 win over Denver.
ANALYSIS
The veteran's other three rushing attempts came in the form of kneel downs as Seattle wrapped up its first official victory of the 2024 campaign. Smith wasn't relied upon heavily in a game that was highlighted by Seattle's running backs and defensive unit. The 33-year-old remains a steady middling fantasy option as the Seahawks prepare to face the Patriots in Week 2.
Aug 25, 2024
Sharp on one drive Saturday
Smith completed four of five passes for 62 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Seahawks' 37-33 preseason win over the Browns on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
The veteran signal-caller drew the start, and after throwing incomplete to DK Metcalf on his first pass attempt, he proceeded to briskly march the Seahawks downfield on a 62-yard touchdown drive. Along the way, Smith recorded completions of 25 and seven yards to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, as well as a 21-yard scoring toss to Metcalf, getting some very encouraging tune-up work completed before a Week 1 home showdown against the Broncos on Sept. 8. Smith will be operating in a new offense this season, but his core of skill players has full continuity, upping his chances of success.
Aug 22, 2024
On track to play Saturday
Coach Mike Macdonald relayed Thursday that most of Seattle's starters, including Smith, are in line to play in the team's preseason finale against the Browns on Saturday, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle and Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune report.
ANALYSIS
Smith didn't see action in either of the Seahawks' first two exhibition contests, but he's slated to get some work in this weekend, along with the team's other healthy starters on offense. Once Smith gives way to his backups Saturday, his focus will turn to a Week 1 matchup against the Broncos.
Aug 12, 2024
Not expected to suit up vs. Titans
Coach Mike Macdonald said Monday that Seattle's starters, Smith included, aren't expected to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Titans, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
Macdonald looks set to hold the Seahawks' starting units out of a second straight exhibition matchup, as Smith also didn't suit up Aug. 10 against the Chargers. Instead, Macdonald stressed that the starters will get plenty of reps during joint practices with Tennessee, which will be fully padded. Smith dealt with hip and knee injuries earlier in training camp but has been a full participant at practice as of late.
Aug 8, 2024
Unlikely to play Saturday
Smith isn't slated to play in Saturday's preseason contest at the Chargers, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith has tended to hip and knee injuries during training camp, so it's no surprise that coach Mike Macdonald will delay what may be just a cameo for the first-team offense during exhibition season. In two campaigns as the Seahawks' starting quarterback, he's averaged 247.1 passing yards per game while accruing a 50:20 TD:INT across 32 regular-season contests.
Aug 5, 2024
Back at practice Monday
Smith (knee/hip) is participating in practice Monday, Gregg Bell of The News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith is throwing at practice in full pads, per Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic. That constitutes the veteran signal-caller's first on-field activity since suffering knee and hip injuries last week, but medical examinations done last Thursday and Saturday didn't reveal a serious issue. The Seahawks' preseason opener is coming up on the road versus the Chargers on Saturday, but it remains to be seen whether Smith or backup Sam Howell will be considered to suit up.
Aug 3, 2024
Likely back at practice next week
Smith (knee) is expected to practice sometime next week, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
This was expected after imaging Friday revealed the veteran quarterback didn't sustain any significant injuries to his knee or hip. While the Seahawks will likely be cautious with their starting quarterback, it seems likely Smith will return to the practice field in some capacity earlier next week.
Aug 2, 2024
Shouldn't miss time
Smith isn't expected to miss time, as testing Thursday revealed no significant problems with his knee and hip, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
There was perhaps a brief moment of panic Thursday evening when Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald told reporters that Smith would undergo testing for multiple issues. It now sounds like the QB may just be dealing with soreness in his knee and hip, rather than anything that would threaten his Week 1 availability. The Seahawks may nonetheless hold Smith out of practice temporarily, which would give Sam Howell a chance to work with the starting offense.
Aug 1, 2024
Set to undergo imaging
Coach Mike Macdonald relayed that Smith is slated to undergo imaging Thursday night to evaluate an unspecified issue, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Per John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site, Macdonald indicated that Smith is "working through a couple things,"which Dugar notes could be knee and/or hip issues. If Smith is forced to miss any time, Sam Howell would be next up for the team's QB reps in practice.
Mar 15, 2024
Won't face competition from Howell
Seahawks GM John Schneider said Thursday that Smith is "the guy" and fellow QB Sam Howell was brought in to be a backup, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
That's not exactly surprising given the gaps in both 2023 performance and 2024 compensation between the two quarterbacks, but it'll nonetheless be comforting to anyone counting on Smith to start this upcoming season. It'll be especially good news for Smith if this is Seattle's only big QB move during the offseason, as the team has been mentioned in connection with Justin Fields and various draft prospects. Drafting a QB is definitely still possible, but the trade for Howell is a pretty clear signal that Seattle isn't in on Fields. The team has mostly focused on smaller moves so far this offseason, including re-signing TE Noah Fant and restructuring WR Tyler Lockett's contract. The interior offensive line is a glaring weakness as the roster is currently constructed, but there are still plenty of options to upgrade via both free agency and the 2024 NFL Draft.
Feb 22, 2024
Restructures contract
Smith and the Seahawks agreed Thursday to a restructured contract, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a simple restructure, converting Smith's $9.6 million roster bonus into a signing bonus to create $4.8 million in 2024 cap space (while adding $4.8 million to the 2025 sheet). The Seahawks already signaled intent to bring Smith back as their starting QB in 2024 when they kept him on the roster through mid-February when his $12.7 million base salary became guaranteed. His contract runs through 2025 but doesn't have any guarantees in the final year, potentially setting up the Seahawks for a tough decision next March when Smith is scheduled for a $10 million roster bonus on the fifth day of the 2025 league year. The upcoming NFL Draft could provide a hint about how the Seahawks feel about Smith long term.
Feb 15, 2024
Won't be released to avoid payment
The Seahawks informed Smith on Thursday that he'll remain on the roster through this week, rather than being released to avoid a $12.7 million contract guarantee that kicks in Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith has two years remaining on the three-year, $75 million contract he signed last offseason, but the deal only had injury guarantees after the first year. His $12.7 million base salary for 2024 is one of those, converting to a full guarantee Feb. 16 (this Friday). Smith then has a $9.6 million roster bonus due March 17, and the Seahawks presumably wouldn't keep him around for now if they didn't also plan to pay that out and have the 33-year-old QB under contract for 2024.
Jan 7, 2024
Throws two scores in win
Smith completed 16 of 28 pass attempts for 189 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 28 yards on three attempts in Sunday's 21-20 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Smith led a clutch game-winning drive within the two-minute warning to lead his team to victory and a 9-8 record in 2023. Last year's Comeback Player of the Year saw his numbers take a step back this season, completing 65 percent of his passes for 3,435 yards, 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 15 games. The only area the 32-year-old improved in was ball protection after committing three fewer turnovers compared to 2022. Despite Smith's slight regression, he figures to be under center for Seattle next season after signing a three-year contract extension this past offseason.
Jan 1, 2024
Efficient performance in loss
Smith completed 23 of 33 passes for 290 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 30-23 loss to the Steelers. He added three rushes for 33 yards but also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Smith put up some impressive numbers thanks to five completions of at least 20 yards -- matching his season high -- and he showed particular rapport with DK Metcalf on several long completions. That allowed him to average an impressive 8.8 yards per attempt -- his highest mark since Week 7. However, he still had some shortcomings, the most important of which was a lost fumble midway through the fourth quarter that allowed the Steelers to go up by two scores. Smith also failed to record multiple touchdowns for the eighth time in 14 starts on the campaign.
Dec 24, 2023
Leads team to victory in return
Smith (groin) completed 25 of 36 pass attempts for 227 yards and two touchdowns with one carry for two yards in Sunday's 20-17 win over Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Smith was back under center for the Seahawks after a nagging groin injury cost him two weeks of action. The veteran starter looked healthy in his return, completing 69 percent of his passes without turning the ball over. Smith threw his second touchdown in the closing moments of Sunday's narrow victory, giving the Seattle its second comeback win in as many weeks. The 8-7 Seahawks will have to figure out how to contain the NFL's current sack leader, T.J. Watt, in order to keep Smith upright in the pocket when the two teams meet next Sunday.
Dec 22, 2023
Clear to play
Smith( groin) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game at Tennessee, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith has been listed as a full practice participant all week, after missing Monday's 20-17 win over the Eagles. He'll now step back in as the starting quarterback, facing a Titans defense that has five starters and two key backups ruled out. Coach Pete Carroll told reporters that Smith looked great at Friday's practice and is good to go for Sunday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
Dec 21, 2023
Another full practice
Smith (groin) practiced in full Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports
ANALYSIS
Smith has missed two consecutive games due to a groin injury that he suffered during a Dec. 7 practice, but he was active this past Monday against the Eagles after completing a pregame workout. In the end, the Seahawks erred on the side of caution on a wet field and rolled with Drew Lock under center, and the latter led a come-from-behind 20-17 victory. Smith told Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic on Thursday that he feels "the same Monday that I do now," which so far has amounted to full listings on the first two Week 16 practice reports. Smith seems destined to resume QB duties Sunday at Tennessee, but it remains to be seen how coach Pete Carroll approaches the situation this weekend.
Dec 20, 2023
Full session on tap Wednesday
Coach Pete Carroll said that Smith (groin) will be a "full go" at Wednesday's walkthrough, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks had a bit of quarterback drama ahead of Monday's game against the Eagles. After Smith completed a pregame workout, the team left him active, but Drew Lock then handled all the first-team reps in warmups while Smith remained off the field. About 15 minutes before an 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Lock and not Smith was expected to start, and Lock ended up directing Seattle's offense as Smith donned street clothes. While Lock ended up leading a come-from-behind 20-17 win, coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Smith will resume starting quarterback duties once his groin is healthy. With an uncapped practice on tap to kick off Week 16 prep, Smith is back in the saddle as the Seahawks' No. 1 signal-caller.
Dec 19, 2023
Will start Week 16 if healthy
Coach Pete Carroll confirmed after Monday's 20-17 win over the Eagles that Smith will start versus the Titans in Week 16 as long as he's healthy, Brady Henderson of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was active for Monday's win despite his groin injury, but Seattle opted to proceed with Drew Lock under center. That decision likely came due to Smith still operating at less than 100 percent health, but barring any setbacks in practice this week, the stage appears set for his return to the lineup. Smith hasn't played since Week 13 due to a groin issue, but he was listed as a limited participant on all three Week 15 practice reports and should resume handling first-team reps this week.
Dec 18, 2023
Active but unlikely to start Monday
Smith (groin), who is active for Monday's contest versus the Eagles, isn't expected to start, with Drew Lock instead slated to lead the Seahawks offense, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith sat out Week 14 at San Francisco due to a groin injury that he suffered just three days before the game. After being deemed a limited participant on all three Week 15 practice reports, he was listed as questionable for Monday. He then completed a pregame workout and was considered active, but Lock handled all the work with the Seahawks' first-team offense in a subsequent warmup. Smith thus appears to be yielding QB duties to Lock for a second consecutive contest, and it's unclear if Smith is an option to play if anything befalls either Lock or fellow signal-caller Sean Mannion.
Dec 18, 2023
Active in Week 15
Smith (groin) is active for Monday's game against the Eagles
ANALYSIS
After sitting out a Week 14 loss at San Francisco due to a groin injury that he suffered in a Dec. 7 practice, Smith was able to log limited sessions Thursday through Saturday and head into a second consecutive contest with a questionable designation. Speaking about Smith on Saturday, coach Pete Carroll told John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site that the quarterback again will be a game-time call, with his status contingent on a pregame workout. Jay Glazer then reported on Fox NFL Sunday that Smith was facing an "uphill battle" to suit up Monday. During aforementioned warmups, though, Smith was going through his typical routine, signaling that he may be able to play, and that's been confirmed upon the team posting its inactive list. It's unclear if he'll resume starting duties over Drew Lock, but that'll likely be confirmed, one way or another, ahead of an 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 17, 2023
Facing 'uphill battle' for Monday
Smith (groin) remains listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Eagles but appears to be facing an "uphill battle" to play, Jay Glazer reported on "Fox NFL Sunday."
ANALYSIS
According to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, head coach Pete Carroll wasn't willing to volunteer much information about Smith's status for the matchup with the Eagles when he spoke to the media following the Seahawks' final practice of the week Saturday, beyond noting that the quarterback didn't experience any setbacks in his recovery from the groin injury he first suffered in a Dec. 7 practice. Even so, Smith never advanced beyond limited participation this week, and it's possible that the groin injury is still compromising his mobility to some degree. The Seahawks seem to be viewing Smith as a true game-day decision for Monday, though Glazer's report suggests that the signal-caller may be trending toward a second consecutive missed game. If that ends up being the case, Drew Lock would be in store for another start under center for Seattle.
Dec 16, 2023
Questionable for Monday
Smith (groin) is listed as questionable for Monday's contest against the Eagles, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
It appears as if Smith might truly be a game-time decision Monday despite practicing in limited fashion this week. The veteran missed Week 14 due to the groin injury and didn't practice Friday after suffering the injury, so it appears as if Smith is improving, but fantasy managers will need to stay tuned to any additional updates leading up to Monday's 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 15, 2023
Remains limited at practice
Smith (groin) was limited at Friday's practice, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was sidelined this past Sunday at San Francisco after injuring his groin in practice three days prior. When the Seahawks opened Week 15 preparations Thursday, coach Pete Carroll told Brady Henderson of ESPN.com that Smith "feels really good" and described him as day-to-day. The extra day to rest ahead of Monday's matchup with the Eagles likely helped with the cause, and Smith now has managed back-to-back capped sessions. He'll be afforded Saturday's practice to potentially get back to full, but he also seems destined to receive a designation on the team's next injury report. If Smith isn't able to suit up Monday, Drew Lock again will direct Seattle's offense.
Dec 14, 2023
Officially limited Thursday
Smith (groin) was a limited practice participant Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Earlier Thursday, coach Pete Carroll told Brady Henderson of ESPN.com that Smith took part in the team's morning walkthrough and was slated to practice to open Week 15 prep. Those generally are positive signs after the groin injury that he suffered during last Thursday's session didn't allow him to mix into drills last Friday or play this past Sunday at San Francisco. Smith now will have two more chances to increase his activity level ahead of Monday's game against the Eagles.
Dec 14, 2023
Set to practice Thursday
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Smith (groin) took part in a walkthrough and is slated to practice later Thursday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Carroll didn't specify to what extent Smith will be involved in practice, but the coach added that the quarterback feels "really good" as the Seahawks kick off Week 15 prep. The longer turnaround for Monday's matchup with the Eagles should only aid Smith as he looks to make his return from the groin injury, which caused him to miss his first game as a member of the Seahawks this past Sunday against the 49ers. The fact that Smith is already practicing in some fashion at this stage of the week is an encouraging sign that he'll be available Monday, but he may need to turn in a full workout Friday or Saturday to avoid carrying a designation into the game. Drew Lock drew the start under center in Week 14 and would be called upon to direct the offense once again Monday if Smith can't move past the groin issue.
Dec 11, 2023
Week 15 status currently cloudy
Coach Pete Carroll said, "We'll see," regarding Smith's chances to return to action next Monday against the Eagles, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. "These couple days right here just are so invaluable for him getting all the treatment he gets and then just the rest time," Carroll added.
ANALYSIS
Smith injured his groin during practice last Thursday, which sidelined him at Friday's session and resulted in his first absence as a member of the Seahawks on Sunday at San Francisco. Seattle will be afforded a bit more time than normal for a Week 15 matchup on Monday Night Football, meaning the team won't reconvene for practice again until Thursday, at the earliest. As intimated by Carroll, Smith will focus on rehab and recovery Tuesday and Wednesday before seeing if he'll be able to take part in drills later this week. Until Smith is healthy again, though, Drew Lock will handle No. 1 QB duties for the Seahawks.
Dec 10, 2023
Sitting out in Week 14
Smith (groin) is inactive for Sunday's game in San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks added Smith to the Week 14 injury report Thursday as limited due to a groin issue, which kept him out of practice entirely Friday. Coach Pete Carroll subsequently termed Smith a game-time decision for Sunday, and after a pregame warmup, the quarterback has been deemed unable to play. With Smith sidelined for the first time this season, Seattle will turn to Drew Lock under center. Smith's next chance for game active is Monday, Dec. 18 against the Eagles.
Dec 9, 2023
Appears to be true game-time call
Though Smith would like to try to play through his groin injury against San Francisco on Sunday, Seattle isn't expected to make a decision on his availability until pregame warmups, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Schefter notes that Smith's groin issue is "considered a two-week injury," which highlights the challenge he faces in trying to take the field against the 49ers. Head coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Smith would be a game-time decision for the contest, and it appears that there is a legitimate chance that the quarterback could be held out of the NFC West clash. If that does happen, Drew Lock would take the reins behind center for Seattle.
Dec 8, 2023
Being treated as game-time call
Head coach Pete Carroll said Friday that he considers Smith (groin) a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with the 49ers, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was added to the injury report Thursday as a limited participant and then held out of practice Friday. He's officially listed as questionable, with Carroll's comments suggesting the team will treat Smith as such entering the weekend, though long-time Seahawks beat reporter Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune said that he'll be surprised if the quarterback doesn't play. Drew Lock will start at quarterback if Smith is listed among Seattle's list of inactives, which will be released 90 minutes before the 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday.
Dec 8, 2023
Listed as questionable
Smith (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at San Francisco, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was added to the injury report Thursday, and the signing of QB Sean Mannion to Seattle's practice squad Friday might be taken as a sign that the Seahawks are at least slightly concerned about Smith missing Sunday's game. Hopefully coach Pete Carroll will provide some context when he talks to the media after practice Friday evening.
Dec 7, 2023
Dealing with groin issue
Smith was limited at Thursday's practice due to a groin injury, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith avoided the Seahawks' first Week 14 practice report Wednesday, so his addition to the list one day later puts the spotlight on Friday to help determine if he may be in danger of sitting out Sunday in San Francisco. He's coming off his fourth 300-yard passing performance of the season last Thursday at Dallas, but he also mustered just 180 yards, no touchdowns and one interception on 18-for-27 passing when Seattle hosted the 49ers back in Week 12.
Dec 1, 2023
Loses high-scoring duel to Dak
Smith completed 23 of 41 passes for 334 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Seahawks' 41-35 loss to the Cowboys on Thursday night. He also rushed twice for six yards and another score.
ANALYSIS
Smith put up a stat line befitting a victory, but a trio of late stalled drives helped scuttle that outcome. However, the veteran signal-caller still finished with a highly fantasy-friendly performance, connecting with DK Metcalf for touchdown passes of 73, one and three yards while adding a five-yard scoring scamper of his own early in the third quarter. However, Smith completed just six of his 15 pass attempts over the aforementioned final three possessions, with what appeared to be a miscommunication in Seattle's blocking scheme on fourth down with 1:07 remaining forcing Smith to get rid of the ball much sooner than he would have liked and sealing Dallas' win. Despite the undesirable outcome, Smith did record his fourth 300-yard game of the campaign and fifth multi-touchdown effort as well, while his rushing score was his first of the season. Next up for Smith and the Seahawks is a Week 14 road rematch against the 49ers that will be critical to Seattle's postseason hopes.
Nov 24, 2023
Struggles in tough matchup
Smith (elbow) completed 18 of 27 passes for 180 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and added four rushes for 21 yards in the Seahawks' 31-13 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Smith was able to play through his triceps contusion but put up unsurprisingly underwhelming numbers against the suffocating 49ers defense. Smith was relatively efficient overall, but he took six sacks and was only able to connect with top targets DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett a combined six times for 62 yards. The veteran signal-caller saw his streak of games with a touchdown pass end at two games, and Thursday marked his fourth sub-200-yard tally of the campaign. Smith's arm should be healthier for a Week 13 road matchup against the Cowboys next Thursday night.
Nov 23, 2023
Active in Week 12
Smith (elbow) is listed as active Thursday versus the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
During this past Sunday's loss at the Rams, Smith missed the final snap of the third quarter and most of the fourth quarter due to a right elbow injury. The official diagnosis was revealed to be a bruise to the tendon on the bottom of his right triceps by coach Pete Carroll on Monday, and Smith proceeded to be listed as DNP/LP/FP during Week 12 prep. Carroll relayed to Colin Gunther of the Seahawks' official site Wednesday that Smith was "ready to go" for Thursday's game, and now that has been confirmed. Smith thus will take aim at San Francisco's 15th-ranked pass defense (221.4 yards per game).
Nov 22, 2023
Likely to play Thursday
Smith (elbow), who is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the 49ers, is tracking toward playing, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Official word Smith's status won't come until the Seahawks release their inactive list 90 minutes prior to Thursday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff, but all indications are that that the quarterback will be cleared to start, despite tending to an injury to his throwing elbow on a short week. Smith was able to return to this past Sunday's loss to the Rams after exiting for a spell when he was hit in the right arm by defensive tackle Aaron Donald, and he created more optimism about his health by taking part in Tuesday's walk-through session as a limited participant. Even if Smith is cleared to start the Week 12 contest as anticipated, he may not make for an especially appealing fantasy option, given that he probably won't be 100 percent healthy and will be facing off against a talented San Francisco front seven.
Nov 22, 2023
Status in question for Thursday
Smith (elbow) is listed as questionable for Thursday's game versus the 49ers, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith took a big hit from Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald on the second-to-last play of the third quarter in Sunday's loss in L.A., but he was able to return for the Seahawks' final possession, leading them into position for a potential game-winning field goal from Jason Myers. The kick was missed, and Smith proceeded to be listed as a DNP on Monday's practice report. He mixed into drills as a limited participant at Tuesday's walkthrough and now has a chance to play Thursday. Both the quarterback and coach Pete Carroll have seemed optimistic about Smith's chances to suit up Week 12, but it won't be confirmed until approximately 90 minutes before an 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff. If Smith isn't available, though, Drew Lock will lead Seattle's offense.
Nov 21, 2023
Bumps up to limited Tuesday
Smith (elbow) was listed as limited on Tuesday's injury report, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After opening Week 12 prep with a listed DNP on Monday, Smith was able to mix into drills one day later as he deals with a bruise to the tendon on the bottom of his right triceps that he sustained Sunday versus the Rams. Officially, the Seahawks are calling it a right elbow injury, and the quarterback told Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times on Tuesday that he feels "a little bit better after a couple of days," and that his availability Thursday against the 49ers is "up to coach (Pete Carroll)." Per Brady Henderson of ESPN.com, Carroll seems optimistic of Smith's chances to play Week 12, but it may not be confirmed until closer to Thursday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff.
Nov 20, 2023
Listed as DNP on Monday
Smith (elbow) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice estimate, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was on the receiving end of a hard hit from Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald on Sunday that sent him to the sideline late in the third quarter through the Seahawks' final offensive possession, when he led the team into L.A. territory, only for Seattle kicker Jason Myers to miss a game-winning 55-yard field goal. Afterward, coach Pete Carroll told Boyle that Smith suffered a bruised elbow, but it was clarified Monday as a bruise to the tendon on the bottom of his triceps, as Carroll told Brady Henderson of ESPN.com. Carroll does expect Smith to be able to suit up Thursday against the 49ers, but he may not get any practice reps until Wednesday, at the earliest, Carroll told Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune. If Smith is unable to go, though, Drew Lock would handle QB duties for the Seahawks.
Nov 20, 2023
Optimism for Thursday
Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that he expects Smith (triceps/elbow) to suit up for Thursday's game against the 49ers, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith suffered a contusion to the tendon at the bottom of his triceps, per Henderson, but he's expected to play through the issue Week 12. Any negative impact to Smith's accuracy against San Francisco's stout defense could, of course, prove significant, especially on a short week. As such, it will be worth monitoring Smith's status closely in practice.
Nov 19, 2023
Dealing with elbow bruise
Head coach Pete Carroll announced that Smith is dealing with a bruised elbow sustained in Sunday's narrow loss to the Rams, putting his status for Thursday's contest against the 49ers in jeopardy, according to Seahawks senior reporter John Boyle.
ANALYSIS
Smith injured his elbow late in Sunday's contest, but he re-entered the game after backup Drew Lock threw an interception in his stead. The veteran starter made a valiant effort to get his team into field-goal range before kicker Jason Myers missed the attempt from 55 yards out. Smith finished the game completing 22 of 34 pass attempts for 233 yards and a touchdown. It sounds like Smith avoided a major injury to his throwing elbow, but his status is still uncertain for Week 11 with the Seahawks scheduled to face the 49ers on Thursday Night Football. If Smith isn't deemed ready following Seattle's upcoming short week of practice, then Lock would get the starting nod against San Francisco's revamped pass rush Thursday.
Nov 19, 2023
Returns to game versus Rams
Smith (elbow) returned in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Rams, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith exited in the third quarter after taking a hit from Aaron Donald. Drew Lock finished that drive and threw an interception on the next one before Smith returned to the game with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and Seattle trailing 17-16.
Nov 19, 2023
Leaves Sunday's game early
Smith departed Sunday's game at the Rams due to an elbow injury.
ANALYSIS
On the second-to-last play of the third quarter, Smith left the field after taking a big hit from Rams defensive lineman Aaron Donald. Smith went directly to the sideline tent, yielding the Seahawks offense to backup quarterback Drew Lock. At the time of his departure, Smith had completed 19 of 29 passes for 197 yards and one touchdown and also rushed one time for minus-1 yard.
Nov 12, 2023
Ends slump with huge passing day
Smith completed 31 of 47 pass attempts for 369 yards and two touchdowns while adding 13 rushing yards on one attempt in Sunday's 29-26 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Last year's Comeback Player of the Year was forced to make another mini comeback Sunday after stinking up the joint in last week's 37-3 loss to the Ravens. Smith wasted no time righting the ship with a pristine passing display from the jump that can only be rivaled by his dominant Week 2 performance against the Lions in an overtime thriller. The 33-year-old boosted his season totals to 2,171 passing yards with 11 touchdowns to seven interceptions through nine weeks. Smith will attempt to avenge an earlier loss to the Rams this season when the two NFC West foes meet in Los Angeles next Sunday.
Nov 5, 2023
Rough performance against Baltimore
Smith completed 13 of 28 passes for 157 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 37-3 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Smith struggled to get Seattle's offense moving throughout the game, as he averaged a miserable 5.6 yards per attempt. There were very few highlights in the performance, though he did show rapport with Jaxon Smith-Njigba -- something that could help unlock the offense moving forward. Overall, Smith has now failed to throw for multiple touchdowns in five of his eight games and has topped 300 passing yards just twice. Even more troubling, he's turned the ball in five of his last six games.
Oct 29, 2023
Leads game-winning drive
Smith completed 23 of 37 passes for 254 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Smith had both good and bad moments in the game, as he cost the Seahawks a chance at points late in the first half with a pick deep in Cleveland territory. That carried over into the second half, as he threw another interception and managed only 80 total yards. However, he found a good time to come alive, as he completed four of five passes for 52 yards on the team's game-winning drive, which Smith capped with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Overall, Smith has topped 250 yards four times in seven games, while he's thrown for multiple touchdowns on three occasions.
Oct 22, 2023
Overcomes two TOs for third win
Smith completed 18 of 24 pass attempts for 219 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while rushing six times for 10 yards and losing a fumble in Sunday's 20-10 win over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Smith was able to get back into the scoring column after failing to score a touchdown against Cincinnati last week. Unfortunately, the veteran was unable to cleanup his turnover issues, producing two more following the pair of interceptions thrown in his last outing. The 32-year-old has gotten off to a slow start following his late-career breakout in 2022, throwing seven touchdowns with five turnovers compared to the 2:1 TD:TO ratio he produced last year. Things won't get any easier for Smith in Week 8 when he faces Cleveland's suffocating pass defense next Sunday.
Oct 15, 2023
Two turnovers in loss
Smith completed 27 of 41 passes for 323 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 17-13 loss to the Bengals. He added four rushes for 20 yards.
ANALYSIS
Smith attempted exactly 41 passes for the second time this season. He averaged a solid 7.9 yards per attempt and five of his completions went for more than 20 yards. However, his day was defined by two interceptions that changed the outcome of the game and prevented him from recording a touchdown for the first time this season. Lack of scores has become a trend for Smith, as despite throwing for over 295 yards in three of his five games, he has only five touchdowns on the campaign.

Logs full practice Wednesday
Smith (knee) practiced fully Wednesday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith's activity level to kick off Week 6 prep backs up coach Pete Carroll's comments from Monday, when he told Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic that the quarterback's knee was "fine." Per Boyle, the injury stemmed from Smith getting his knee twisted up Week 4 at the Giants, but he was able to return and complete 13 of 20 passes for 110 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions. With the help of the team's Week 5 bye, Smith now is good to go for Sunday's road matchup with a Bengals defense that has given up eight total touchdowns (seven passing, one rushing) to opposing quarterbacks in five games this season.
Oct 9, 2023
Doing 'fine' after Week 5 bye
Coach Pete Carroll said Monday that Smith's knee is "fine," Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith hurt his knee during the Seahawks' last contest Monday, Oct. 2 at the Giants, which capped him to 38 of 55 offensive snaps. His resulting stat line was modest -- 13-for-20 passing for 110 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions along with a catch for minus-2 yards -- and Carroll told John Boyle of the team's official site afterward that Smith's injury was spurred by getting his knee twisted. With a Week 5 bye behind him, Smith appears as if he'll miss no more time due to the issue, as he looked spry while going through drills Monday, per Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. Seattle will post its first practice report of Week 6 prep Wednesday ahead of Sunday's game at Cincinnati.
Oct 3, 2023
Avoids serious injury
Head coach Pete Carroll stated Smith twisted his knee during Monday's win over the Giants, but the injury isn't serious, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith didn't appear limited by his injury during the second half of Monday's matchup, and while he may be sore for a few days after the win, he'll have plenty of time to recover with the Seahawks set to enjoy a bye in Week 5. The team will undoubtedly monitor its starting quarterback closely over the next two weeks, but he should have a good chance of gaining clearance to play in Seattle's Week 6 matchup with the Bengals.
Oct 2, 2023
Back in game
Smith (knee) is back on the field following halftime of Monday's game with the Giants, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith went down with a knee injury in the first half, but he's ready to go for the final 30 minutes. The quarterback was replaced for two series by Drew Lock following his injury and Lock will now return to the bench.
Oct 2, 2023
Dealing with leg injury
Smith suffered a knee injury and is questionable to return to Monday's contest with the Giants, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith limped off the field after being hit while running out of bounds in the second quarter and his status for the remainder of the game is now uncertain. More information on the quarterback will likely come following halftime. For the time being, Drew Lock has taken over under center for Seattle.
Sep 24, 2023
Solid in Sunday's win
Smith completed 23 of 36 passes for 296 yards and one touchdown with one interception in Sunday's 37-27 win over the Panthers. He also threw a two-point conversion to Tyler Lockett.
ANALYSIS
The pick was his first of the season and snuffed out a second-quarter drive, but it didn't end up costing his squad. Smith spread the ball around, completing passes to nine different Seahawks, but his lone TD went to undrafted rookie Jake Bobo on a five-yard strike in the fourth quarter. Smith will look to build on this performance in Week 4 against a Giants defense that just got gashed for 310 yards and two touchdowns by the 49ers' Brock Purdy.
Sep 17, 2023
Leads team to OT win
Smith completed 32 of 41 passes for 328 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Seahawks' 37-31 overtime win over the Lions on Sunday. He also rushed three times for 20 yards.
ANALYSIS
Smith's final line was an especially welcome sight for fantasy managers who endured a rough Week 1 from the veteran quarterback. Smith seemed to heat up as the game went along, enduring a brief absence from DK Metcalf due to a rib injury along the way. The 11-year pro came through in the clutch by tossing a fourth-quarter, three-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Lockett before going back to his trusted wideout for a six-yard game-winning scoring toss in overtime. Smith's first 300-yard game of 2023 also was a mistake-free effort, giving him new fantasy life heading into a Week 3 home matchup against the Panthers.
Sep 10, 2023
Quiet in home opener
Smith completed 16 of 26 pass attempts for 112 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Smith led a flat passing attack that couldn't keep up with a Cooper Kupp-less Rams' team. The veteran didn't make any egregious mistakes, and better days will be ahead from a fantasy perspective. The 2022 Comeback Player of the Year will attempt to come back from this dud when Seattle takes on Detroit on Sunday.
Aug 26, 2023
Not playing Saturday
Smith isn't dressed to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Packers, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith went through pregame warmups but doesn't have cleats or a helmet for the actual game. The Seahawks aren't expected to play many starters and can soon shift their focus to a Week 1 home game against the Rams. Rookie WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) is unlikely to be ready for that game following his recent surgery, but Smith still has a strong group of players around him between WRs DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and a backfield duo of Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet.
Aug 20, 2023
Crisp in preseason debut
Smith completed five of six passes for 46 yards and rushed once for two yards in the Seahawks' 22-14 preseason win over the Cowboys on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
The veteran signal-caller got his first game action of the summer in, playing two series and leading Seattle to a field goal on the latter drive. Smith's completions included connections with incumbents Tyler Lockett and Will Dissly, as well as rookie first-round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Whether or not head coach Pete Carroll will risk his starting quarterback in next Saturday afternoon's preseason finale against the Packers remains to be seen.
Aug 19, 2023
Slated to play Saturday
GM John Schneider said that Smith is in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Cowboys, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks held Smith out of their exhibition opener last Thursday, but it appears he and the rest of the team's healthy starters will get a dress rehearsal before Week 1. As Seattle's No. 1 quarterback in 2022, he completed 70 percent his passes for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions en route to NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors.
Aug 10, 2023
Unlikely to play Thursday
Smith isn't slated to play in Thursday's preseason game against the Vikings, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith handled the initial throws with the first-team offense during pregame warmups before leaving most of the QB reps to Drew Lock. As a result, Smith's next chance for some exhibition action will arrive Saturday, Aug. 19 against the Cowboys. It's unclear if the Seahawks will give him any snaps during the preseason, but he likely doesn't need them after turning a comeback 2022 campaign into a three-year, $105 million extension with the team back in March.
Mar 6, 2023
Lands big payday
The Seahawks and Smith agreed to a three-year, $105 million contract extension Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
A second-round pick of the Jets in the 2013 NFL Draft, Smith flamed out in his initial stop in the NFL and served as a journeyman until winning a quarterback battle against Drew Lock last summer in the post-Russell Wilson era in Seattle. Smith proceeded to put together an impressive campaign, completing 69.8 percent of his passes for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while also running for 366 yards and one more score. With wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and running back Kenneth Walker also under contract with the Seahawks for the next three seasons, the 32-year-old Smith has the skill-position talent at his disposal to continue to put up fruitful stat lines.
Feb 4, 2023
Contract talks underway
Smith has reportedly had positive contract negotiations with the Seahawks thus far, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith would likely be one of the top signal callers if he were to hit the open market this offseason, but it appears as if the Seahawks would like to avoid that possibility, as talks regarding an extension are seemingly moving in a positive direction. The 32-year-old quarterback put up career-best numbers across the board in his first season as a starter with Seattle, but given this was Smith's first year as a starter since 2014, any extension would likely be of the shorter variety as the team attempts to safeguard itself from any sort of regression.
Jan 14, 2023
Tosses two TDs in wild-card loss
Smith completed 25 of 35 passes for 253 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Saturday's 41-23 wild-card loss to the 49ers. He added 28 rushing yards on four carries and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Considering the quality of the defense he was facing, it was a solid performance from Smith in his playoff debut, but the Seahawks' defense fell apart in the second half. The 32-year-old will head into free agency after a remarkable comeback season that saw him lead the NFL with a 69.8 percent completion rate and throw for 4.282 yards and 30 touchdowns while starting all 17 games for Seattle, and his playoff performance shouldn't dissuade a team in need of a veteran QB from offering him a big contract.
Jan 8, 2023
Poor performance in win
Smith completed 19 of 31 passes for 213 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 19-16 win over the Rams. He added four rushes for 51 yards.
ANALYSIS
Smith threw an interception on his first pass attempt of the game, which largely set the tone for the rest of his performance. While he threw multiple picks for only the second time this season, Smith managed to lead a few key drives. The first came early in the third quarter, which he capped by connecting with Tyler Lockett for a 36-yard touchdown. Though both ended in field goals, Smith also led drives late in the fourth quarter and in overtime to help Seattle win the game and keep their playoff hopes alive. Regardless of the team outcome, Smith had a very successful season from a personal perspective and should be a starter in 2023 -- whether that's for the Seahawks or with another team.
Jan 1, 2023
Tosses two TDs in win
Smith completed 18 of 29 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 23-6 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
He added 18 rushing yards on five carries. While Smith didn't produce much yardage, leaving that to Kenneth Walker and the backfield during a game in which Seattle never trailed, he was sharp when he needed to be and hit backup tight ends Colby Parkinson and Tyler Mabry for touchdowns in the first and second quarters. He's now one passing TD shy of 30 for the year, and with the Seahawks still alive in the race for a playoff spot, Smith might need to continue his remarkable comeback season for one more game in Week 18 against the Rams.
Dec 24, 2022
Middling performance in loss
Smith completed 25 of 40 pass attempts for 215 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Saturday's 24-10 loss to the Chiefs. He added 16 rushing yards on three attempts.
ANALYSIS
Smith turned in one of his poorer fantasy performances in an otherwise impressive 2022 campaign. The 32-year-old has struggled in recent weeks, averaging 239.0 passing yards while throwing three interceptions over his last three games. Things don't get any easier for Smith in Week 17 with a stout Jets defense on deck. In positive news, the veteran signal-caller may get explosive wideout Tyler Lockett (finger) back for next Sunday's tilt.
Dec 15, 2022
Solid numbers in loss
Smith completed 31 of 44 passes for 238 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions while adding an 18-yard rush on his one attempt in the Seahawks' 21-13 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night. He also committed a fumble that was recovered by Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Smith's final numbers were adequate from a fantasy perspective -- especially against an elite defense -- but he ultimately wasn't able to help the Seahawks keep up with the Brock Purdy-led 49ers offense. The veteran signal-caller continued to demonstrate excellent chemistry with his top receiving duo of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, and he alos connected with Noah Fant for a 10-yard touchdown with 3:35 remainiing. However, the Seattle defense was never able to get Smith the ball back for a potential game-tying drive, but he'll aim to step up his performance in what should be a critical Week 16 matchup against the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium a week from Saturday.
Dec 11, 2022
Inconsistent in defeat
Smith completed 21 of 36 passes for 264 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Panthers. He also rushed three times for 20 yards.
ANALYSIS
Smith was picked off on his first throw of the game, setting the stage for an uneven performance. The signal-caller was intercepted another time in the first half, but Smith still distributed the ball relatively well, as each of his top three receivers (DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Marquise Goodwin) caught at least five passes for 60 yards and a touchdown. With a second straight three-score game, Smith carries decent recent form into a tricky Week 15 matchup Thursday night versus the 49ers.
Dec 9, 2022
Cleared for Week 14
Smith (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Panthers, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The right shoulder issue that resulted in Smith's practice reps being capped Thursday won't prevent him from playing this weekend, but the signal-caller could have to get by without some key weapons at his disposal. Most notably, starting wideout DK Metcalf (hip), lead back Kenneth Walker (ankle) and top tight end Will Dissly (calf) are listed as questionable after their respective injuries affected their practice participation this week. Smith will at the very least have trusty slot man Tyler Lockett available in the passing game, but the ability of Metcalf in particular to play through his injury would be a major boon to the quarterback's Week 14 fantasy outlook.
Dec 8, 2022
Tending to right shoulder issue
Smith was a limited practice participant Thursday due to a right shoulder injury, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Like wide receiver DK Metcalf (hip), Smith is showing up on the Seahawks' second injury report of Week 14 after avoiding it entirely Wednesday. It's notable that Smith is dealing with an issue to his throwing arm, but with one practice to go Friday he has a chance to put any questions about his playing status behind him ahead of Sunday's contest against the Panthers.
Dec 4, 2022
Career-best effort against Rams
Smith completed 28 of 39 passes for 367 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 27-23 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
The 367 yards were a career high for Smith, who overcame a huge revenge game from former Seahawk Bobby Wagner that included two sacks and an INT to engineer a comeback win. After the Rams took a 23-20 lead with just under three minutes left in the fourth quarter, Smith led a 10-play, 75-yard drive that ended in a DK Metcalf touchdown reception with only 36 seconds left on the clock. The 32-year-old QB has tossed multiple TD passes in six straight games and racked up at least 275 passing yards in four straight, giving him plenty of momentum heading into a Week 14 clash with the Panthers.
Nov 27, 2022
Big effort wasted Sunday
Smith completed 27 of 37 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 40-34 overtime loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
He added 22 rushing yards on five carries but also lost a fumble. Smith found Tyler Lockett in the second quarter and Travis Homer in the fourth for his TDs, with the latter giving the Seahawks a late lead, but the defense wasn't able to make it hold up. The passing yards were a season high for Smith, and he's tossed exactly two touchdowns in five straight games heading into a Week 13 clash with the Rams.
Nov 13, 2022
Efficient in loss
Smith completed 23 of his 33 passes for 275 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 21-16 loss to Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Smith had a costly fumble deep in Tampa Bay territory late in the third quarter, which was a contributing cause to Seattle's loss. However, he was strong from a fantasy perspective, averaging 8.3 yards per attempt while also connecting for scores of 21 and 19 yards. Smith now has multiple touchdown throws in four consecutive games, and he has recorded exactly 275 passing yards in two straight contests.
Nov 13, 2022
Wanted back for 2023
The Seahawks have interest in re-signing Smith as the starter for the 2023 season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith, heading into Sunday's contest against the Buccaneers in Munich, is approaching his 10th start of the 2022 season. The 32-year-old boasts a 73.1 percent completion rate through his nine appearances thus far, with 2,199 passing yards and a 15:4 TD:INT ratio, plus one more score on the ground. Considering the impressive quality of Smith's play, it's no surprise that Seattle will work to re-sign him as a continued starter, though contract talks are expected to take place after the season. That provides Smith with further opportunities to bolster his resume, beginning with Sunday's international matchup against a Tampa Bay defense that returns starting safety Antoine Winfield from the concussion protocol, and Carlton Davis another week removed from injury.
Nov 6, 2022
Two more TDs in Week 9 win
Smith completed 26 of 34 passes for 275 yards and two touchdowns with an interception in Sunday's 31-21 win over the Cardinals. He added 38 rushing yards on six carries.
ANALYSIS
The INT turned into a pick-six by Zaven Collins, but otherwise it was another impressive performance from Smith. The veteran quarterback has tossed multiple TDs in seven of nine games, giving him a 15:4 TD:INT on the season and plenty of momentum as the Seahawks carry a four-game winning streak into a Week 10 clash with the Buccaneers in Germany.
Oct 31, 2022
Big fourth quarter in win
Smith completed 23 of 34 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 27-13 win over the Giants. He added 26 rushing yards on five carries.
ANALYSIS
The game was a tight defensive battle until the fourth quarter, when Smith broke open a 13-13 tie with a 33-yard TD strike to Tyler Lockett. The veteran QB has tossed multiple touchdowns in six of eight games so far this season en route to a sharp 13:3 TD:INT, but in Week 9 he faces a Cardinals secondary that kept him out of the end zone entirely in their first meeting.
Oct 23, 2022
Tosses two TDs in big road win
Smith completed 20 of 27 passes for 210 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 37-23 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
He also gained seven yards on four carries. The quarterback lost one of his main targets in the first quarter after DK Metcalf suffered a knee injury, but Smith didn't skip a beat and instead just hit Marquise Goodwin for the journeyman wideout's first two TDs of the year. Smith has tossed multiple TDs in five of seven games, helping him amass a sharp 11:3 TD:INT heading into a Week 8 clash with the Giants.
Oct 17, 2022
Slowed by Arizona
Smith completed 20 of 31 passes for 197 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 19-9 win over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Smith helped the Seahawks to victory, though he was unable to continue his extremely efficient performances. After averaging 10.7 yards per attempt in each of his last two games, Smith managed only a mark of 6.4 yards per attempt against Arizona. He also failed to throw for a touchdown for the second time this season, resulting in a disappointing performance. Smith should be in a positive game environment to rebound in a Week 8 matchup against the Chargers.
Oct 9, 2022
Stays hot in loss
Smith completed 16 of his 25 passes for 268 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 39-32 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Smith attempted a season-low 25 pass attempts, though that was largely because he helped Seattle's offense score so efficiently. He shredded the Saints' secondary for long touchdowns of 50, 40 and 35 yards to keep his team in the game in a high-scoring affair. Through five games this season, Smith has thrown multiple touchdowns four times and has topped 250 passing yards in each of his last three matchups.
Oct 2, 2022
Stellar performance in Week 4 win
Smith completed 23 of 30 passes for 320 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and added 49 yards and another score on seven rushes in the Seahawks' 48-45 win over the Lions on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Smith continued his shocking early-season trend of outplaying the man he replaced at quarterback, franchise legend Russell Wilson, with a second straight 300-yard effort. The 2013 second-round pick completed 76.7 percent of his throws for his fourth showing of over 70.0 percent in as many games to open the season, with his three total scores on the day coming via an eight-yard rush along with 17- and two-yard touchdown tosses to tight ends Will Dissly and Noah Fant, respectively. Smith now boasts a 6:2 TD:INT through four games for the surprising 2-2 Seahawks, who'll next face the Saints on the road in Week 5.
Sep 25, 2022
Eclipses 300 yards in loss
Smith completed 32 of 44 pass attempts for 325 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 27-23 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Smith was able to wake up Seattle's offense following last week's zero-point dud against the 49ers (only touchdown was via special teams). The veteran quarterback was able to get both of his talented wideouts involved, throwing double-digit targets to DK Metcalf (five catches, 64 yards and a touchdown) and Tyler Lockett (nine receptions for 76 yards). Geno is not a sexy name in season-long formats, but he could be a value play in DFS with a favorable matchup against the Lions next Sunday (31.0 points per game allowed this season).
Sep 18, 2022
Little production against Niners
Smith completed 24 of 30 passes for 197 yards and an interception in Sunday's 27-7 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
He also gained two yards on two carries. For the second straight start, Smith was accurate but didn't produce much yardage. Unlike Week 1, however, he wasn't able to get the ball into the end zone while also committing a turnover. The veteran QB is proving to be competent game manager as Seattle's starter but little more, and he may need to step things up in Week 3 against a Falcons team that's averaged 26.5 points through its first two games.
Sep 13, 2022
Two TDs in Week 1 upset win
Smith completed 23 of 28 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns in Monday's 17-16 win over the Broncos. He added 14 yards on five rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Smith sent the amped up Seattle crowd into a frenzy when he found wide open tight end Will Dissly for a 38-yard touchdown to cap the game's first drive, but he failed to get any push on a 4th-and-inches sneak attempt inside Denver's 10 to stall Seattle's second possession. He completed his first 13 passes and was undeterred by his first incompletion, bouncing back with a 25-yard touchdown to Colby Parkinson to put the Seahawks up 17-10. Seattle's offense cooled off after halftime, but the Seahawks held on for the upset win. Smith looked comfortable and had complete command of the offense despite the modest final numbers, which should give him some job security after Smith narrowly held off Drew Lock for the starting quarterback role in preseason.
Aug 27, 2022
Wins starting QB job
Head coach Pete Carroll announced that Smith will start at quarterback Week 1 against Denver, Liz Matthews of USA Today reports. Smith was 3-of-6 passing for 43 yards and led the Seahawks to a field goal in his lone series in Friday's preseason loss to Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Smith got the first QB reps in all three preseason games and beat out Drew Lock for the starting job. He'll likely need to play well early in the season to keep the job, however.
Aug 26, 2022
To make brief showing Friday
GM John Schneider told Seattle Sports 710 AM that Smith will play "a series or two" during Friday's preseason game at Dallas, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith thus will get the first QB reps in all three of the Seahawks' exhibitions, but his workload will be far less than in the first two contests, when he handled the entire first half both times. This time around, he'll welcome back Drew Lock after the latter sat out preseason Week 2 due to a positive test for COVID-19. The competition between Smith and Lock remains unsettled, but Smith has maintained his lead from the offseason program into training camp and the preseason, so it appears he's the favorite to be under center for Seattle in Week 1.
Aug 24, 2022
Set to start Friday
Coach Pete Carroll noted that Smith will start Friday's preseason finale against the Cowboys, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The report indicates that the Seahawks plan to play Smith early on in the contest, after which Drew Lock is slated to play a lot, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. At this stage, the team has yet to announce a Week 1 starting QB, with Carroll noting Tuesday that the Seahawks will take "all the time (they) need" to make a decision on that front, per Brady Henderson of ESPN . With that in mind, Carroll suggested that Smith remains ahead in the competition, but noted that he's "wide open" to the possibility that Lock could potentially overtake Smith.
Aug 22, 2022
Practices after knee bruise
Smith and Drew Lock split first-team reps at Sunday's practice, John Boyle of Seahawks.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock returned after missing Thursday's preseason game against the Bears due to COVID-19, while Smith bounced back quickly after bruising his knee in that contest. Lock figures to play a lot in the final preseason game, after Smith completed 10 of 18 passes for 112 yards last week in Lock's absence. Coach Pete Carroll says he's in no hurry to name a Week 1 starter.
Aug 19, 2022
Dealing with knee bruise
Smith suffered a knee bruise in Thursday's preseason matchup against the Bears, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith got banged up on a scramble in the first quarter and was spotted with a bag of ice on his knees afterward. However, coach Pete Carroll told reporters that Smith could have returned to action if necessary, but with Drew Lock (illness) also sidelined there was no need for the Seahawks to risk further loss to their quarterback depth chart. Prior to leaving the exhibition contest, Smith completed 10 of 18 passes for 112 yards.
Aug 18, 2022
May have knee injury
Smith was spotted on the sideline to begin the second half of Thursday's preseason game versus the Bears with a wrap and ice bag on his right knee, Tim Booth of the Associated Press reports. The 10th-year quarterback finished the contest 10-for-18 passing for 112 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions.
ANALYSIS
After Drew Lock tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, Smith earned a second consecutive start to kick off the Seahawks' exhibition slate. Through the entire process of the quarterback battle in Seattle, coach Pete Carroll has maintained that Smith is the team's No. 1 signal-caller, but with both players seemingly tending to health concerns, it stands to reason Carroll may delay announcing who will be under center Week 1. The Seahawks have one more preseason outing remaining on Friday, Aug. 26 in Dallas before a decision must be made.

Likely starting Thursday
Smith likely will start Thursday's preseason game against the Bears after Drew Lock tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After handling first-team reps at Tuesday's practice and then being announced as the Seahawks' starting quarterback for preseason Week 2 by coach Pete Carroll, Lock now will be unavailable to practice or play for at least the next five days. As a result, Smith, who remains the team's No. 1 QB on the depth chart, should get some work with the top available skill-position players Thursday before handing the offense over to Jacob Eason.
Aug 16, 2022
Still No. 1 quarterback
Smith won't start Thursday's preseason contest against the Bears, but he remains the No. 1 quarterback on the Seahawks' depth chart, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
For the first time since training camp kicked off, Smith yielded all the reps with the first-team offense to Drew Lock at Tuesday's practice, but it appears the development is nothing more than getting the latter prepared for the team's second exhibition. In preseason Week 1, Smith worked the first half, while Lock handled every snap after halftime, so a similar breakdown, only reversed, may come to pass Thursday.

Tops 100 yards in preseason start
Smith completed 10 of 15 pass attempts for 101 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing twice for nine yards and a touchdown during Saturday's 32-25 preseason loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Smith operated as the starting quarterback during Saturday's preseason opener and played the entire first half. While he didn't pass for any touchdowns, he showcased his rushing ability with a score on the ground late in the second quarter. Although Drew Lock has outplayed Smith in practice in recent days, Smith has worked mainly with the first-team offense early in camp and turned in a solid performance during the preseason opener.
Aug 10, 2022
Tabbed as preseason starter
Smith will start Seattle's preseason opener Saturday against Pittsburgh, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Drew Lock reportedly outplayed Smith by a wide margin in Seattle's mock game Tuesday, but it won't be enough to flip the depth chart, at least not yet. Smith has taken most of the first-team reps this summer, after completing 65 of 95 passes for 702 yards, five TDs and one interception in four games last season. The numbers look pretty good at first glance, but Smith also took 13 sacks for 117 yards and added only 42 yards rushing. No qualified passer had a sack rate worse than 11.8 percent (Justin Fields), while Smith was at 12.0 percent over the limited sample.
Aug 9, 2022
Listed atop depth chart
Smith is listed with the first-string offense on Seattle's initial preseason depth chart, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith started the Seahawks' team scrimmage last Saturday, and the first depth chart of the preseason seems to reflect that he remains ahead of Drew Lock in the quarterback competition. During last week's scrimmage, Lock helmed the second-team offense. Seattle's preseason opener, Aug. 13 in Pittsburgh, will serve as the first of three upcoming contests to help fully settle the competition between Smith and Lock ahead of Week 1.
Aug 7, 2022
Struggles in team scrimmage
Smith completed 10 of 19 passes for 94 yards (4.9 YPA) in Saturday's team scrimmage, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith played nearly the entire game with the first-team offense against the second-team defense. Meanwhile, Drew Lock operated with the second-team offense and played against the first-team defense, and he managed to complete 18 of 27 passes for 185 yards and a touchdown. Head coach Pete Carroll mostly avoided making any judgements about the quarterback competition in his press conference, but Lock clearly outperformed Smith on Saturday, even if his stat line was merely mediocre. There are still three preseason games to settle the competition, the first of which is next Saturday against the Steelers.
Jul 28, 2022
Taking first-team reps
Smith handled all the first-team reps during Wednesday's practice while Drew Lock practiced with the second team, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports. "Geno is in the lead," head coach Pete Carroll said. "He's ahead and he ain't looking back."
ANALYSIS
Carroll admitted that Lock still has an opportunity to win the starting job, but he seems optimistic that Smith can secure the starting role by the end of the preseason. Smith was serviceable over four games (three starts) last season, as he completed 68 percent of his passes for 702 yards (7.4 YPA), five touchdowns and an interception. He also ran nine times for 42 yards and a score. The run game will be the focal point of Seattle's offense, but Smith will have excellent weapons -- Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf and Noah Fant -- if he does win the job.

Holds slight lead after minicamp
Head coach Pete Carroll said following the last day of mandatory minicamp Thursday that Smith is ahead of Drew Lock in the quarterback competition, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith had the early edge heading into the offseason program because he had a three-year head start on Lock in Seattle's system. Nevertheless, Carroll reiterated that Lock isn't too far behind, signaling that this battle will extend into training camp. Neither Smith nor Lock is considered a difference-maker under center, so the Seahawks will need to protect the ball to win games this season. Whichever quarterback can avoid turnovers in camp and the preseason has the best chance to emerge victorious.
May 21, 2022
Early edge in QB competition
Given his experience and familiarity with the Seahawks offense, Smith has an early edge on Drew Lock in the team's ongoing quarterback competition, Gregg Bell of the Seattle News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Offensive coordinator Shane Waldron acknowledged that there's "a long time to go" before a final call is made on the team's Week 1 starting QB, but unless the team makes a move for another signal caller, Russell Wilson's replacement will be either Smith or Lock. Per Waldron, "right now, Geno has done such a good job of carrying over (the offensive principles from 2021). He already had a head start over Drew right there." That said, Waldron noted that he likes Lock's "ability to make every throw on the field." Either way, this is a job battle that's way too early to call, and it seems likely that as long as they both remain healthy the duo will share first-team reps in practice this summer.
May 1, 2022
Competing for starting job
Smith is expected to compete with Drew Lock and Jacob Eason for the starting quarterback job after the Seahawks didn't select a quarterback in the 2022 NFL Draft, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks decided to use all nine of their draft picks to reinforce other positions, signaling that they're content with letting Smith, Lock and, to a lesser extent, Eason battle for the starting job this summer. Smith, 32, played four games (three starts) while Russell Wilson was rehabbing a finger injury last season. He won just one game and completed 68.4 percent of his passes for 702 yards (7.4 YPA), five touchdowns and an interception while adding another 42 yards and a score on the ground.

Has contract reworked
The NFL disapproved the contract Smith signed with the Seahawks on April 14, but the issue was amended Tuesday, and new terms of the deal were confirmed, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Rapoport, Smith will have a base salary of $3.5 million in 2022, with the potential for $3.5 million in incentives. Smith is a candidate to replace Russell Wilson after Seattle dealt the long-time signal-caller to Denver back in March. As a part of that trade, the Seahawks received three-year pro Drew Lock, and the team remains a candidate to add to the quarterback room this offseason. As it stands, Smith has the most experience with the team's current coaching staff, making five appearances (1-2 as a starter) over the last two seasons. Overall, he completed 69 of 100 passes for 735 yards, five touchdowns and one interception and recorded 11 carries for 40 yards and another score in those games.
Apr 14, 2022
Back with Seahawks
The Seahawks have re-signed Smith, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Condotta, Smith's one-year deal with Seattle carries a base value in the $4 million range, plus incentives. Now that he's back in the fold, Smith bolsters a QB corps that also currently includes Drew Lock and Jacob Eason. It's still possible that the Seahawks could add a veteran option such as Baker Mayfield or draft a signal-caller later this month, but for now Smith figures to have a chance to compete for the vacated starting spot created by the offseason trade of Russell Wilson

Arrested on suspicion of DUI
Smith was arrested Monday in King County, Wash. on suspicion of DUI, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports. "Geno is fully cooperative with the investigation. I hope that an open mind can be kept by all as the facts are ascertained," Smith's attorney Jon Fox said in a statement regarding the incident.
ANALYSIS
Smith was arrested at 2:10 a.m. local time and released from a King County correctional facility at 9:27 a.m. on his personal recognizance. Head coach Pete Carroll relayed that Smith was present at the Seahawks facility later Monday to take part in end-of-season meetings, so the team will presumably leave it to the NFL to decide whether the 31-year-old quarterback is subject to fine or suspension. Smith, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March, appeared in four games (three starts) during his first season in Seattle, completing 65 of 95 attempts for 702 yards and a 5:1 TD:INT to go with 42 rushing yards and one score on the ground.

Returns to practice
Smith (back) practiced in full Saturday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith picked up the injury Friday, though he made a quick recovery. He should be prepared to serve as the Seahawks' backup quarterback in Week 12 against Washington.
Nov 26, 2021
Picks up back injury
Smith missed Friday's practice with a back injury, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith practiced in full Thursday, which is apparently when he suffered the injury. Saturday's practice report will be telling for his Week 12 availability, but if he can't go, the Seahawks will turn to Jacob Eason as their backup quarterback.
Nov 13, 2021
Returns to No. 2 role
Smith will serve as the backup quarterback behind starter Russell Wilson (finger) in Sunday's game against the Packers after the latter was activated from injured reserve Friday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith started the last three contests in place of Wilson, who missed the first games of his career after suffering an injury to his right middle finger Oct. 7 that required surgery. At the time he underwent surgery, Wilson was expected to be sidelined for roughly six weeks, but the eight-time Pro Bowler healed quicker than anticipated and performed well enough in practice this week for Seattle to sign off on him playing. Wilson's return should represent a boon to the Seattle offense and all its key skill-position players, though Smith was a capable game manager while the former was sidelined. In his three starts, Smith completed 70.5 percent of his throws for 7.3 yards per attempt and a 4:0 TD:INT.
Oct 31, 2021
Highly efficient in win
Smith completed 20 of 24 passes for 195 yards and two touchdown in Sunday's 31-7 win over the Jaguars. He also rushed twice for eight yards and a score.
ANALYSIS
In his third consecutive start, Smith notched his first win since the 2017 season when he was playing for the Jets, and he completed 83 percent of his passes with 8.1 yards per attempt in the process. This was easily Smith's best showing of the season, as he totaled 376 passing yards and two touchdowns over his previous two starts. It's still cloudy whether Russell Wilson (finger) will return after the bye week for a Week 10 matchup against the Packers.
Oct 26, 2021
Unable to get offense going
Smith completed 12 of 22 pass attempts for 167 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 13-10 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Smith got off to a great start when he placed a perfect deep ball to hit DK Metcalf in stride for an 84-yard touchdown in the first quarter, but that's pretty much where his effectiveness ended. The veteran backup did protect the football and kept Seattle in the contest until their last drive, but he was promptly sacked twice (five overall), ending any chance of a heroic comeback. Smith does have a favorable matchup against Jacksonville on tap for Week 8, but the lack of upside makes him a hard sell.
Oct 18, 2021
Late comeback falls short
Smith completed 23 of 32 pass attempts for 209 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Smith got his first start with Seattle in place of the injured Russell Wilson (finger), and the results were mixed. The 31-year-old struggled mightily in the first half, failing to lead the Seahawks to any points before halftime. The veteran got things rolling in the second half to bring his team back to a tie at the end of regulation, but it was his lost fumble that led to the game-deciding field goal by Chris Boswell. Overall the entire passing offense took an expected dip under Smith, and there doesn't appear to be enough upside to make him a viable fantasy starter against the Saints next week.
Oct 8, 2021
Starting opportunity likely coming
Smith is expected to step in as Seattle's starting quarterback beginning with the team's Week 6 game at Pittsburgh with Russell Wilson (finger) expected to be sidelined for at least a month, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After exiting Thursday's loss to the Rams, the ultra-durable Wilson was diagnosed with a ruptured middle finger tendon on his right hand, an injury that will likely keep him out for anywhere from a month to 6-to-8 weeks. Seattle may look to the trade market or free agency for another veteran replacement, but for now, Smith looks set to quarterback a team with legitimate playoff aspirations for the first time in his nine-year career. Smith acquitted himself reasonably well while filling in for Wilson for most of the second half of the Week 5 loss, completing 10 of 17 attempts for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Even so, the change from Wilson to Smith is obviously a big downgrade for the Seattle offense, and for the fantasy values of DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
Oct 8, 2021
Solid work in emergency duty
Smith entered the Seahawks' 26-17 loss to the Rams on Thursday night in place of Russell Wilson (finger) with 14:42 remaining and completed 10 of 17 passes for 131 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
ANALYSIS
Smith immediately caught the Rams' attention by leading the Seahawks on a 10-play, 98-yard scoring march that he capped off with a 23-yard touchdown pass to DK Metcalf to bring Seattle within two points at the time. After Los Angeles answered with a touchdown drive of their own, Smith was able to get his squad into field-goal range and keep matters interesting until he threw an interception on the first play of his third possession, one that seemed to be at least partly the result of intended receiver Tyler Lockett taking some contact from a defensive back as he ran his route. Smith certainly offered what would have to be termed serviceable play at the very minimum, but both fantasy managers and the Seahawks will naturally be clamoring for a quick return to health for Wilson, who's been diagnosed with a bad sprain, ahead of a Week 6 road battle against the Steelers a week from Sunday.
Aug 21, 2021
Likely out Saturday
Smith was not spotted warming up prior to Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos and is not likely to play, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith cleared concussion protocol Friday so is available to play. However, it makes sense that the team would take no chances with his health, as he expected to serve as the team's backup quarterback come the regular season. Alex McGough and Sean Mannion are expected to see the majority of the time under center in the contest.
Aug 20, 2021
Clears concussion protocol
Smith (concussion) has cleared the league's mandated protocols, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith suffered a concussion in the Seahawks' preseason opener against the Raiders. However, his quick clearance hrough the league's protocols will allow him to be available for Saturday's matchup with the Broncos. He currently projects to back up Russell Wilson under center in 2021.
Aug 14, 2021
Goes out with concussion
Smith suffered a concussion in the first half of Saturday's preseason game against the Raiders and did not return, according to NFL.com.
ANALYSIS
Smith started the exhibition contest and got off 10 passes, but he was not able to continue after going down with the head injury. He will need to clear the league's concussion protocol before returning to action.
Apr 22, 2021
Re-signs with Seahawks
Smith has re-signed with the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Smith has backed up Russell Wilson for the past two seasons, a role that he'll reprise in 2021. While working behind Wilson, who's been durable as a pro, Smith has made just one regular-season appearance for Seattle, in a blowout win over the Jets last year.
Jan 16, 2021
Gets into one game in 2020
Smith played one game for the Seahawks in 2020 and completed four of five passes for 33 yards.
ANALYSIS
Russell Wilson hasn't missed a game since entering the league, so Smith has been called upon just once over his two-year stint with the team, as he took the field in a Week 14 blowout win over the Jets. The 30-year-old quarterback will be an unrestricted free agent in March.
Dec 14, 2020
Closes in blowout win
Smith completed four of five passes for 33 yards in Sunday's 40-3 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Smith took the field for the first time since 2018, as Russell Wilson was rested in the fourth quarter after generating a comfortable lead. He was predictably rusty, getting sacked once and botching a snap. The 30-year-old only threw short passes, too. It was nevertheless important to get Wilson's backup some work before the postseason begins.
May 14, 2020
Agrees to one-year deal with Seahawks
Smith agreed to a one-year contract with the Seahawks on Thursday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith rejoins the team that employed him as a backup last season, though it resulted in no snaps throughout the 2019 campaign. He should presumably return to that backup role, though undrafted rookie Anthony Gordon should get a look in training camp as well.
Jan 13, 2020
No snaps in 2019
Geno Smith didn't play an offensive snap for the Seahawks in 2019.
ANALYSIS
Russell Wilson hasn't missed a game since entering the league in 2012, and he continued that trend in 2019. That left Smith on the sidelines for the full season. Smith last started a game in 2017 for the Giants. Overall in his career, he's completed 57.7 percent of passes for 6,182 yards, 29 touchdowns and 36 interceptions while rushing for 661 yards and seven scores. The 29-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent in March.
Sep 4, 2019
Absent from injury report
Smith (knee) wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith had a strong preseason and has finally shaken off a nagging knee injury. He'll suit up for Sunday's game versus the Bengals to serve as a backup to Russell Wilson, who has never missed a game in his seven-year NFL career. Smith has little regular-season experience over the last four years, playing in just 10 contests and throwing for 611 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.
Sep 1, 2019
Re-signing with Seattle
Smith (knee) is re-signing with the Seahawks, Josina Anderson of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was cut Saturday to temporarily free up a roster spot. He's once again positioned as Russell Wilson's backup, with no other quarterbacks on the roster as of Sunday afternoon.
Aug 31, 2019
Let loose by Seahawks
The Seahawks released Smith (knee) on Saturday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The news comes as a bit of a surprise, as Seattle released third-string passer Paxton Lynch on Friday, supposedly leaving Smith as the backup behind Russell Wilson. The Seahawks also released J.T. Barrett on Saturday, leaving Wilson currently as the only quarterback on the roster. Smith hasn't seen a large role under center since his first two seasons in the league. The 28-year-old started in 29 games and threw for 5,571 yards, 25 touchdowns and 34 interceptions for the Jets in 2013 and 2014. Smith has appeared in 10 games and passed for 611 yards, four touchdowns and two picks over the last four seasons.
Aug 30, 2019
Will have knee evaluated
Head coach Pete Carroll called Smith's knee injury a "tweak," stating that he will need to have it examined in the coming days, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith had to exit Thursday's final preseason game with what appeared to be a minor knee injury (was able to stand on the sideline in pads after exiting). The team will have the knee looked at, but assuming the injury isn't serious, Smith is the strong favorite to begin the season as Russell Wilson's primary backup.
Aug 30, 2019
Questionable to return Thursday
Smith suffered a knee injury during Thursday's preseason game against the Raiders and is questionable to return, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith was examined by team trainers immediately after suffering the injury, though he was spotted on the sideline shortly after with his helmet on, likely indicating that he's OK.
Aug 21, 2019
Suiting up Saturday
Coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday that Smith (knee) will play in Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith had a cyst in his knee removed last week that had forced him to miss time. Now that he's healthy and fellow backup Paxton Lynch is dealing with a head injury, it will be Smith and J.T. Barrett given the reigns for snaps behind Russell Wilson on Saturday.
Aug 16, 2019
Back at practice
Smith (knee) is practicing Friday and could play in Sunday's preseason game against the Vikings, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith had a cyst in his knee removed last week and is back on the practice field after missing the last seven days. If Smith does end up being active for Sunday's exhibition, second-year quarterback J.T. Barrett likely will not get the opportunity to play.
