Bounces back via MVP-caliber effort
Taylor rushed 32 times for 244 yards and three touchdowns while bringing in all three targets for 42 yards in the Colts' 31-25 overtime win against the Falcons on Sunday in Berlin.
ANALYSIS
The highlights of yet another memorable day for Taylor were his final two touchdowns, which consisted of an 83-yard run with just over six minutes remaining in regulation and the game-winning eight-yard scamper up the middle in overtime. Taylor's yardage total fell just short of the career-high 253 he gained against the Jaguars as a rookie back in January 2021, and it served as his third tally of more than 150 yards already this season. Taylor also now has four three-touchdown performances in his MVP-caliber 2025 campaign, and he'll have a Week 11 bye to take a breath before returning to action in a Week 12 road showdown against the Chiefs on Sunday, Nov. 23.
Nov 2, 2025
Slowed in Pittsburgh
Taylor rushed the ball 14 times for 45 yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Steelers. He added two receptions on two targets for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has been unstoppable most of the season, but he was underwhelming in Sunday's loss. He was limited to only 3.2 yards per carry with a long gain of nine, though the Colts were also forced to take to the air as they faced a two-score deficit for nearly the entire second half. That limited Taylor's volume and led to his lowest yardage output of the season. This was also the first time he didn't find the end zone since Week 4.
Oct 26, 2025
Can't stop scoring in threes
Taylor ripped off 153 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries and caught both of his targets for 21 yards and a third score in Sunday's 38-14 rout of the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Taylor continues to score in threes like it's going out of style, producing his fourth three-touchdown game in eight starts this season. It was the 26-year-old's second-consecutive contest scoring thrice, and the second time he has accomplished the feat against Tennessee this year. In addition to his monstrous rushing totals (143-850-13), Taylor has made strides as a receiver in 2025. The Wisconsin grad has 25 receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns as we near the midpoint of the schedule, a rate that would eclipse the 40-360-2 receiving line he posted during his breakout campaign back in 2021. Taylor will ride a wave of momentum into next Sunday's tilt against the Steelers' 19th-ranked rush defense.
Oct 19, 2025
Three more trips to end zone
Taylor carried the ball 16 times for 94 yards and three touchdowns and caught all three of his targets for 38 yards in Sunday's 38-24 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
The Colts' offense just keeps on rolling and Taylor has been its engine, scoring from 23 yards out in the first quarter Sunday before dashing for eight and 19-yard scores in the third. It's the third time in seven games this season that Taylor has gotten into the end zone three times, en route to an NFL-best 11 TDs in total (10 rushing, one receiving) and 882 scrimmage yards. He seems unlikely to be slowed down in Week 8 by the Titans.
Oct 12, 2025
Another 100-yard effort Sunday
Taylor rushed 21 times for 123 yards and a touchdown while securing all four targets for 14 yards in the Colts' 31-27 win over the Cardinals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor put together another signature stat line, averaging 5.9 yards per carry on his way to his second-highest rushing yardage total of the season. Taylor also scored his fourth touchdown of the last two games on a one-yard rush with under five minutes remaining to erase a 27-24 deficit and put the final points of the day up on the board. Taylor is already sitting on 603 rushing yards, seven rush TDs and an average of 5.3 yards per carry through six contests, and he'll face the Chargers' porous run defense in a Week 7 road showdown next Sunday.
Oct 5, 2025
Three more TDs in big win
Taylor rushed 17 times for 66 yards and three touchdowns and brought in three of four targets for 20 yards in the Colts' 40-6 win over the Raiders on Sunday. He also recovered a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Taylor encountered plenty of resistance from the Raiders' defense on many of his runs, but he found enough running room to record scoring rushes of three, one and six yards, as well as a game-long 16-yard scamper. It was Taylor's second three-touchdown tally of the season, a two-game sample that accounts for all his end-zine trips to date. The sixth-year pro remains the component around which the Colts' prolific offense revolves, and Taylor should be very busy once again in a Week 6 home interconference clash with the Cardinals next Sunday.
Sep 28, 2025
Manages 96 total yards
Taylor rushed the ball 17 times for 76 yards in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Rams. He added five receptions on five targets for 20 yards.
ANALYSIS
Taylor turned in an efficient day on the ground, averaging 4.5 yards per carry with two gains of more than 10 yards. He also had a 53-yard touchdown nullified by a holding penalty, which held him under 100 yards rushing for the first time since Week 1. While Taylor's performance may have been underwhelming relative to his very high standards, his involvement as a receiver is noteworthy. He has multiple catches in every game, and already has 13 receptions on the season after logging only 18 and 19 in the last two years, respectively.
Sep 21, 2025
Three scores against Tennessee
Taylor rushed the ball 17 times for 102 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 41-20 win over the Titans. He added three receptions on four targets for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
Despite his final line, the Titans did a good job of limiting Taylor for much of the game. He punched in a pair of scores from one yard away in the first and fourth quarters. Taylor also broke the contest open and accounted for a significant portion of his yardage with an impressive 46-yard touchdown late in the third quarter, during which he broke through several tackles and evaded additional defenders with a spin move. Taylor now has four total touchdowns on the season and has topped 100 rushing yards in consecutive contests.
Sep 14, 2025
Tops 200 yards from scrimmage
Taylor recorded 25 carries for 165 yards in Sunday's 29-28 win over the Broncos. He added two receptions on two targets for 50 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Taylor delivered a key run of 68 yards early in the fourth quarter to set up a field goal for the Colts, while also accounting for the team's longest play from scrimmage. He was efficient on the ground beyond that single carry, logging a pair of both 10 and nine-yard gains. Taylor also got involved as a pass catcher, taking a swing pass for 43 yards late in the first quarter before catching a touchdown on a similar play from seven yards away one quarter later. It was an excellent performance all around and marked the sixth time in Taylor's career that he's topped 200 yards from scrimmage.
Sep 7, 2025
Just under 100 total yards in win
Taylor rushed 18 times for 71 yards and secured all three targets for 27 yards in the Colts' 33-8 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The Colts somewhat surprisingly opened up with a pass-centric approach in Daniel Jones' debut as the new starting quarterback, but Taylor eventually mixed in effectively throughout the afternoon. The talented back's longest run went for a modest 15 yards, but he also recorded a 16-yard reception and certainly put together a serviceable fantasy outing to open the campaign. Jones did vulture one goal-line opportunity from Taylor, but the latter will undoubtedly be called on frequently in such scenarios moving forward. Taylor does draw an unenviable matchup in Week 2, however, as the stingy Broncos defense pays a visit next Sunday.
Aug 16, 2025
Looks good on one carry
Taylor rushed once for nine yards and wasn't targeted in the Colts' 23-19 preseason loss to the Packers on Saturday afternoon.
ANALYSIS
Taylor hit his nice gain off left tackle midway through the Colts' first-team offense's second and final possession after not seeing any touches on the opening drive. The talented back was unsurprisingly only briefly featured, and Saturday's carry may well represent the extent of his preseason work. Taylor will be sharing the backfield with either Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson come Week 1 while filling his usual high-volume, dual role.
Aug 11, 2025
Starters in line to play Saturday
After not seeing any action in the Colts' preseason opener, Taylor is a candidate to log snaps Saturday against the Packers, Amanda Foster of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
On the topic of key players' playing time this weekend, coach Shane Steichen noted that starters will play "about a quarter" versus Green Bay. In that scenario, Taylor would have an opportunity to get some touches on offense before giving way to some combination of DJ Giddens, Khalil Herbert (undisclosed), Ulysses Bentley, Nate Noel and Nay'Quan Wright.
Aug 7, 2025
Not slated to play Thursday
Taylor is not in line to play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Ravens, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to starting WRs Michael Pittman and Josh Downs, among others, though the Colts do plan to give their top two QBs, Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, reps in the contest. Taylor's next chance to see game action will be Aug. 16 against the Packers.
Jul 22, 2025
Gets new backups for 2025
Free-agent signing Khalil Herbert and rookie fifth-round pick DJ Giddens are expected to compete for backup RB roles behind Taylor, ESPN.com's Stephen Holder reports.
ANALYSIS
The Colts also have third-year pro Tyler Goodson, who took 43 touches for 214 yards and two TDs last season and split work with Trey Sermon (now in Pittsburgh) in the three games Taylor missed. Taylor played a career-high 79.9 percent of snaps in his 14 active games last year, up from 57.7 percent in 2023, 70.2 percent in 2022 and 68.9 percent in 2021. He could lose a few snaps/touches in 2025 if the backup situation improves, but neither Giddens nor Sermon is likely to threaten Taylor's workload beyond the fringes. Taylor has averaged at least 17.9 touches and 89.4 total yards per game in each of his five pro seasons, albeit with minimal receiving production and repeated ankle injuries the past few years.
Jan 5, 2025
Finishes 2024 in style
Taylor carried the ball 34 times for 177 yards and a touchdown and caught one of two targets for three yards in Sunday's 26-23 overtime win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
It was another huge performance for the 25-year-old RB, who topped 100 yards in each of the last four games of the season, tying the longest such streak in his career. Taylor wrapped up 2024 with 1,431 yards and 11 TDs on the ground with a 4.7 YPC over 14 games, his best campaign since 2021. He has two years and $24 million left on his current contract with $7.2 million guaranteed for 2025, and as long as he can stay healthy he figures to remain the focal point of the Colts' offense next year while the team continues its efforts to develop QB Anthony Richardson (back).
Dec 29, 2024
Big performance in loss
Taylor carried the ball 32 times for 125 yards and two touchdowns and caught two of four targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 45-33 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The star running back is having a massive finish to the season. Taylor topped 100 rushing yards for the third straight game, a stretch in which he's racked up 450 yards and five TDs on the ground while averaging 5.4 yards per carry. The Colts were eliminated from playoff contention with the loss, so the team may elect to sit veterans like Taylor in Week 18. If he does take the field though, he'll have a very favorable matchup at home against the Jaguars.
Dec 22, 2024
Elite performance in win
Taylor rushed 29 times for 218 yards and three touchdowns in the Colts' 38-30 win over the Titans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Coming off a game where he inadvertently squandered a touchdown by releasing the ball before he broke the plane of the goal line, Taylor appeared to be on a quest for atonement Sunday. The talented back ripped off the first of his three touchdowns on a 65-yard breakaway run in the second quarter, and he subsequently struck from 70 yards on the first play of the second half before adding a one-yard scoring run later in the third quarter for the trifecta. Taylor's massive yardage total was the second highest of his career, bested only by his 253-yard franchise-record performance in Week 17 of his rookie 2020 campaign. Taylor has now eclipsed the century mark on six occasions this season heading into a favorable Week 17 road matchup against the Giants.
Dec 15, 2024
Throws away would-be TD
Taylor rushed 22 times for 107 yards and caught one of two targets for four yards in Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Broncos. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Taylor broke free for what should have been a 41-yard touchdown in the third quarter, but he celebrated early and dropped the ball before crossing the goal line, resulting instead in a fumble that rolled out of the end zone for a touchback. That mistake was the turning point, as the Broncos responded with 24 unanswered points from there to drop the Colts to 6-8. It also kept Taylor stuck at five rushing touchdowns, the last of which came back in Week 8. On the bright side, he managed to exceed 100 rushing yards for the fifth time in 11 appearances this season. The workhorse running back should maintain a heavy workload in Week 16 against the 3-11 Titans.
Dec 1, 2024
Ends scoring drought Sunday
Taylor carried the ball 25 times for 96 yards and caught his only target for a seven-yard touchdown in Sunday's 25-24 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
The veteran RB just missed compiling 100 rushing yards for the fifth time in 10 appearances this season, and Taylor ended his four-game scoring drought with his first TD reception of the year late in the first quarter. Taylor heads into the Colts' Week 14 bye only 78 yards short of 1,000 scrimmage yards, a mark he reached in each of his first three NFL seasons before falling short in an injury-plagued 2023.
Nov 24, 2024
Midseason lull continues
Taylor rushed 11 times for 35 yards and was not targeted as a receiver in Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was inefficient with his carries for the second consecutive game and has now averaged under four yards per carry in three of his last four contests. Quarterback Anthony Richardson pitched a dud Sunday, resulting in a poor game script for Indianapolis' star running back. Taylor remains the workhorse in the Colts' backfield, but the offense needs to show more balance against the Patriots next Sunday in order to unleash their top talent on the roster.
Nov 17, 2024
Inefficient in Week 11 win
Taylor rushed 24 times for 57 yards and caught one of two targets for three yards in Sunday's 28-27 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was surprisingly quiet in the victory, posting his third-lowest rushing yardage total of the season despite setting a season high in rushing attempts. Anthony Richardson scored two short rushing touchdowns in the quarterback's return to the starting role, while Taylor was kept out of the end zone for the third consecutive game after running in five touchdowns in his first five appearances of the season. Getting back on track won't be easy for Taylor in Week 12 against the stout Lions front, especially given the high probability of the Colts falling behind and having to go with a more pass-heavy approach.
Nov 10, 2024
Over 100 total yards in loss
Taylor rushed 21 times for 114 yards and secured two of four targets for eight yards in the Colts' 30-20 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was the only Colts running back to log a carry and helped his final total significantly with a 58-yard run in the latter portion of the first quarter. Taylor exceeded 100 yards on the ground for the second time in the last three games and fourth time overall on the season, and he now has multiple receptions in three of the past four contests as well. Taylor should remain very busy in a Week 11 road matchup against an inconsistent Jets run defense.
Nov 3, 2024
Quiet in Flacco-led offense
Taylor rushed 13 times for 48 yards while catching three of five targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 21-13 loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Taylor had rushed for at least 88 yards in each of his previous four appearances, but this performance was more similar to his disappointing 48-yard Week 1 outing against the Texans, though he at least found the end zone in that one. It's a bit worrying that this subpar outing coincided with Taylor's first game started by Joe Flacco at quarterback. The threat of Anthony Richardson using his legs may have helped open up additional running lanes for Taylor, but Taylor's unlikely to go into a prolonged slump with Richardson benched given the star running back's track record of success when healthy. Taylor will look to bounce back in Week 10 against a Bills defense that has struggled to defend running backs.
Oct 27, 2024
Over 100 yards in return
Taylor (ankle) rushed 20 times for 105 yards and a touchdown and secured his only target for 12 yards in the Colts' 23-20 loss to the Texans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor looked no worse for wear after a three-game absence due to an ankle injury, with the star running back ripping off several solid gains on his way to his third 100-yard effort of the season. Taylor also found the end zone for the fifth time on the campaign via a one-yard run shortly before the halfway point of the fourth quarter, and he now has at least 88 rushing yards in four consecutive contests. Taylor will draw another tough on-paper matchup when the Colts travel to face the Vikings next Sunday night.
Oct 25, 2024
Set to return Sunday
Taylor (ankle) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game at Houston, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor sustained a right high-ankle sprain Week 4 against the Steelers and has missed the last three games as a result, but his ability to handle a full allotment of practice reps both Thursday and Friday indicates he's ready to take on most, if not all, of his normal workload. Prior to the injury, he averaged 19.5 touches for 106.5 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring four rushing TDs in four contests. If Taylor cedes any work to other RBs, though, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson will be on hand to give him the occasional breather.
Oct 24, 2024
Logs full practice
Taylor (ankle) practiced fully Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who hasn't seen game action since suffering a right high-ankle sprain Week 4, returned to a limited practice Wednesday, with his full participation a day later presumably setting the stage for the Colts' top running back to be available for Sunday's game against the Texans. Assuming no issues with his increased participation level during Thursday's session, Taylor will be in a position to head into the weekend minus an injury designation.
Oct 23, 2024
Limited in return to practice
Taylor (ankle) returned to a limited practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Given that Taylor hadn't practiced or played since suffering a right high-ankle sprain Week 4, his return to the field Wednesday, albeit in a limited capacity, suggests that he has a chance to return to action Sunday against the Texans. The running back now has two more chances upgrade to full participation before the Colts' Week 8 injury report is posted. If he remains limited or out this weekend, however, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson would continue to see added work in the team's backfield.
Oct 23, 2024
Returning to practice
Head coach Shane Steichen noted that Taylor (ankle) will practice Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor hasn't practiced or played since sustaining a right high ankle sprain in Week 4, so his looming return to the field Wednesday offers hope that the star running back could return to action Sunday against the Texans. The team's upcoming injury report will reveal Taylor's participation level in Wednesday's session, but if he's available this weekend, Taylor would be in line to reclaim the lead role in a Colts backfield that in his absence has been led by Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson.
Oct 21, 2024
Hopeful to practice this week
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Monday he's "optimistic" that Taylor (ankle) will resume practicing this week, with a divisional matchup against the Texans on deck Sunday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor hasn't practiced in any capacity since suffering a right high-ankle sprain that's forced him to sit out Indianapolis' last three games, so it would represent significant progress to see him handling even limited reps when the team gets back on the practice field Wednesday. Trey Sermon has averaged just 2.9 YPC with Taylor sidelined the last three weeks, though Tyler Goodson has managed more competent production and scored his first career touchdown Week 7 against Miami. The extent of Taylor's practice activity will need to be closely monitored, but his return would provide the Colts a much-needed boost against Houston if he's able to play.
Oct 18, 2024
Won't play Sunday
Taylor (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Taylor is thus slated to miss his third straight game and will target a potential return to action Oct. 27 against the Texans. In his continued absence, Trey Sermon (knee, provided he's active) and Tyler Goodson are in line to lead the Colts' Week 7 backfield, with Evan Hull on hand. Meanwhile, Salvon Ahmed and Trent Pennix are currently on the team's practice squad.
Oct 18, 2024
Not seen at Friday's practice
Taylor (ankle) wasn't spotted at Friday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday either, and his apparent absence from Friday's session has him trending in the wrong direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Dolphins. The Colts' upcoming injury report is set to provide the Week 7 game status of both Taylor and top backup Trey Sermon (knee), who was limited at practice Thursday.
Oct 17, 2024
Still not practicing
Taylor (ankle) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who hasn't practiced or played since sustaining a right high ankle sprain during Week 4 action, now has one more chance to log practice reps ahead of Sunday's game against the Dolphins. If he remains sidelined this weekend, Trey Sermon --who returned to practice Thursday -- and Tyler Goodson would be in line to lead the Colts' Week 7 backfield, provided Sermon is available.
Oct 16, 2024
Not practicing Wednesday
Taylor (ankle) remained sidelined at practice Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who has missed two straight contests, thus has two more chances to return to practice in advance of Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Meanwhile, Trey Sermon (knee) is also absent from practice Wednesday, leaving Tyler Goodson and Evan Hull as the Colts' top healthy RBs at this stage of the week.
Oct 11, 2024
Ruled out for Sunday
Head coach Shane Steichen noted Friday that Taylor (ankle) won't play Sunday against the Titans, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With Taylor set to miss his second straight contest, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson are in line to handle the Colts' backfield duties versus Tennessee on Sunday, with Evan Hull and Trent Pennix candidates to be elevated from the practice squad ahead of Week 6 action. Taylor's next chance to suit up for a game will occur Oct. 20 against the Dolphins.
Oct 11, 2024
Not present for start of practice
Taylor (ankle) wasn't present at the start of Friday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, so unless he makes an appearance as the session progresses, his status for Sunday's game against the Titans will remain cloudy. If Taylor is unable to play this weekend, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson would be in line to handle the Colts' backfield duties in Week 6.
Oct 10, 2024
Misses another practice
Taylor (ankle) didn't practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Per James Boyd of The Athletic, Taylor -- who missed this past Sunday's 37-34 loss to the Jaguars -- is feeling "way better" relative to last week. After having missed back-to-back practices though, what (if anything) he's able to do Friday will be telling with regard to his chances of suiting up this weekend against the Titans. Meanwhile, top backup Trey Sermon (collarbone) returned to a full practice Thursday.
Oct 10, 2024
Not seen as practice opens
Taylor (ankle) wasn't spotted at Thursday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
While Taylor appears on track to be listed as 'DNP' for the second straight day, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star relays that the running back indicated prior to practice that the "pain level has gone down tremendously" in his ankle. Meanwhile, Taylor's top backup Trey Sermon (collarbone) didn't practice Wednesday, but was present for Thursday's session.
Oct 9, 2024
Still not practicing
Taylor (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who missed this past Sunday's 37-34 loss to the Jaguars, has two more chances to return to practice ahead of this weekend's game against the Titans. If the running back is forced to miss a second straight game, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson would be in line to handle the Colts' Week 6 backfield duties.
Oct 4, 2024
Ruled out for Week 5
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Friday that Taylor (ankle) is ruled out for Sunday's matchup against the Jaguars, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor will miss at least one contest due to the right ankle sprain he sustained during Indianapolis' win over the Steelers in Week 4. The star running back didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, and he wasn't spotted at the portion of Friday's practice open to the media. Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson will be positioned to lead the Colts' backfield until Taylor is healthy, with his next opportunity to retake the field coming Week 6 on the road against Tennessee.
Oct 4, 2024
Not seen as practice opens
Taylor (ankle) wasn't spotted during the initial portion of Friday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who is dealing with an ankle sprain, didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday, so his apparent absence early on Friday clouds his status for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. The Colts' upcoming injury report is slated to confirm both Taylor's official participation level Friday as well as his Week 5 game status.
Oct 3, 2024
Misses another practice
Taylor (ankle) didn't practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who has missed back-to-back practices, noted Thursday that he's taking it "day by day" as Sunday's game against the Jaguars approaches, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. The running back now has one more chance to practice before the Colts issue their final Week 5 injury report, but if Taylor is limited or out this weekend, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson are next up for backfield work, with Evan Hull and Trent Pennix candidates to be elevated from the team's practice squad.
Oct 3, 2024
Not expected to practice Thursday
Taylor, who continues to deal with an ankle sprain, isn't likely to practice Thursday, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Colts' upcoming injury report will reveal whether Taylor-- who didn't practice Wednesday -- is indeed deemed a non-participant for the second day in a row. If that ends up being the case, he'll have one more opportunity to practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Per Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star, Taylor relayed Thursday that his current ankle issue is not as severe as the one that he contended with during the 2022 season.
Oct 2, 2024
Not practicing Wednesday
Coach Shane Steichen noted that Taylor (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor thus has two more chances to return to practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars, but for now his Week 5 status is cloudy. If he's unavailable this weekend, Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson are next up for the team's backfield duties, with Evan Hull and Trent Pennix candidates to be elevated from the practice squad.
Sep 30, 2024
Not a candidate for IR
The Colts are not considering injured reserve as an option for Taylor (ankle), who sustained a 'mild' high-ankle sprain during the team's 27-24 win over the Steelers in Week 4, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor would have to miss at least four games if placed on IR, but it doesn't look like Indianapolis believes the star running back will require that long a timeframe to complete his recovery. Still, even if Taylor's high-ankle sprain isn't as serious as similar issues he's dealt with in the past, such injuries more often than not result in players having to spend some time on the sideline. Trey Sermon will figure to operate as the Colts' starting running back if Taylor can't suit up on the road against Jacksonville on Sunday, while Tyler Goodson would step into the No. 2 role.
Sep 29, 2024
High-ankle sprain viewed as mild
Taylor was diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain after Sunday's 27-24 win over the Steelers, but it's believed to be a mild version of the injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor will get additional tests Monday to confirm the diagnosis, but the early news on the ankle injury that forced him out of Sunday's win is relatively positive. This high-ankle sprain isn't believed to be as bad as some of the previous ones Taylor has dealt with. Nonetheless, Taylor may miss some game action, and Trey Sermon would be in line to lead Indianapolis' backfield in Week 5 against the Jaguars if Taylor doesn't play.
Sep 29, 2024
Exits Sunday's game
Taylor was forced out of Sunday's game against the Steelers with an ankle injury, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to that, Taylor had carried 21 times for 88 yards and a TD and caught three of his four targets for 20 yards. In his absence Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson are available to handle the Colts' backfield duties.
Sep 22, 2024
Finds end zone twice in win
Taylor carried the ball 23 times for 110 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 21-16 win over the Bears. He also caught one of two targets for 25 yards.
ANALYSIS
The fifth-year running back might have had a third score, but he got a breather after gaining a total of 46 yards on back-to-back plays in the third quarter and watched Trey Sermon finish off the drive with a one-yard TD run. Taylor is the clear focal point of the Colts' offense while Anthony Richardson struggles to move the ball consistently through the air, and that role has resulted in consecutive 100-yard rushing efforts and three touchdowns through three games. Taylor will likely be busy again in a tough Week 4 matchup against the Steelers.
Sep 15, 2024
Eclipses 100-yard mark in loss
Taylor rushed 12 times for 103 yards and brought in two of four targets for 32 yards in the Colts' 16-10 loss to the Packers on Sunday. He also committed a fumble recovered by Indianapolis.
ANALYSIS
Taylor looked like himself on his modest amount of opportunities, averaging 8.6 yards per carry with a long run of 29 yards. He also finished with the Colts' second-highest receiving yardage total after being shut out altogether through the air in the Week 1 loss to the Texans. Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star confirms that the talented running back did not have any injury concerns early in the fourth quarter when he was substituted for Trey Sermon on a key drive, and Taylor's otherwise strong performance was only missing a bit more volume and a touchdown. He'll aim to rectify both matters when he tangles with the Bears defense at home in Week 3.

Finds end zone in loss
Taylor carried the ball 16 times for 48 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
The fifth-year player was the only Colts running back to get a touch in the game, and while QB Anthony Richardson led the team in rushing yards with 56, Taylor capped his day with a five-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Taylor could be in line for a much bigger performance in Week 2 against a Packers defense that got gashed for 132 scrimmage yards and three TDs by Saquon Barkley in its opener.

Five touches in preseason finale
Taylor rushed four times for 15 yards and caught his only target for eight yards in Thursday's 27-14 preseason win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Taylor started the game but exited a few drives earlier than most of the other starters, allowing Tyler Goodson and Evan Hull to get some first-team reps. None of the other running backs in the organization are likely to do much besides spell Taylor when he needs a breather as long as the workhorse remains healthy. Even with more than two weeks to recover before the Sept. 8 regular-season opener against the Texans, the Colts understandably limited Taylor's workload in the preseason finale, as he's expected to regularly see 20-plus touches after averaging 19.8 combined rushing attempts and receptions per game over his previous four NFL regular seasons.
Aug 22, 2024
Starters slated to play Thursday
Taylor and the Colts' starters are on track to play into the second quarter of Thursday's preseason finale against the Bengals, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After Taylor gets his anticipated reps Thursday, look for Tyler Goodson, Evan Hull, Zavier Scott and Demetric Felton to have an opportunity to make their cases for depth slotting in an Indy backfield that also includes Trey Sermon, who's been dealing with a hamstring issue. As the coming season approaches, Taylor is healthy and entrenched as his team's clear-cut lead back, a context that should result in a high-volume role in the team's Anthony Richardson-helmed offense.
Aug 15, 2024
Not in line to play Saturday
Coach Shane Steichen said Thursday that Taylor won't suit up for Saturday's preseason game against the Cardinals, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
The same can be said for the rest of the Colts' starters and No. 2 quarterback Joe Flacco. With Taylor in street clothes Saturday, Trey Sermon (hamstring, if available), Tyler Goodson, Evan Hull, Zavier Scott and Demetric Felton will be the candidates to work out of Indianapolis' backfield. As for Taylor, he's coming off back-to-back injury-riddled campaigns in which he averaged 90.4 yards from scrimmage per game and scored 12 total touchdowns in 21 regular-season contests.
Aug 11, 2024
Two carries in preseason cameo
Taylor rushed twice for four yards and wasn't targeted in Sunday's 34-30 preseason loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Taylor played the first two drives alongside starting quarterback Anthony Richardson, but the Colts understandably didn't give the workhorse running back many touches. While Taylor may continue to sprinkle in some carries throughout the preseason, including Saturday against the Cardinals, the Colts have little reason to put significant tread on his tires during the exhibition slate considering Taylor has handled 925 carries over the past four regular seasons and is in line for another high-volume campaign in 2024.
Aug 11, 2024
Playing in preseason opener
Taylor is starting the Colts' first preseason game against Denver on Sunday, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor is likely to see the field for just a series or two, but it will give him an opportunity to play alongside Sunday's starting QB Anthony Richardson after the pair logged just two snaps together last year. It could be interesting to see how lining up next to Richardson affects Taylor's opportunities, particularly at the goal line, as Richardson is an explosive runner who logged a 38 percent goal-line carry rate last year before getting injured in Week 5. Taylor scored seven times on the ground and one time through the air over 10 regular-season contests in 2023.
Jan 6, 2024
Valiant effort to end campaign
Taylor (ankle) finished with 30 carries for 188 yards and a touchdown while catching both of his targets for eight receiving yards in Saturday's 23-19 loss to Houston.
ANALYSIS
It's incredible to think that Taylor could have had an even bigger rushing night had he not missed a portion of Saturday's action due to an ankle injury. The star tailback carried a stagnant Indianapolis offense throughout the contest, generating his first game of 100-plus rushing yards this season in the process. The Colts' season came to a disappointing end after the offense failed to convert on fourth-and-one while keeping Taylor -- who gained the previous nine yards on three straight rushes -- on the sidelines. The 24-year-old will conclude a holdout-shortened season with 894 yards from scrimmage and eight total touchdowns across 10 active games. Taylor was clearly playing through the ankle injury he sustained, so more news is likely to come on that front as the Colts prepare to enter the offseason.
Jan 6, 2024
Back in Saturday's game
Taylor (ankle) returned to Saturday's game versus the Texans, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor initially was deemed questionable to return due to a heel injury, but immediately before he reentered the contest he was deemed doubtful with an ankle injury. He now will look to build upon the 23 touches for 173 yards from scrimmage and one rushing TD he had before hitting the locker room for half of a quarter.
Jan 6, 2024
Exits with heel injury Saturday
Taylor departed Saturday's game against the Texans due to a heel injury, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor looked like his vintage self before heading to the locker room near the end of the third quarter, reeling off 165 yards on 21 carries and hauling in both targets for eight yards. His contributions on the ground included a 49-yard touchdown run as he outran the entire Houston defense. Zack Moss likely will lead the Colts backfield for as long as Taylor is sidelined, with Tyler Goodson getting any RB reps that linger.
Dec 31, 2023
Season high in rushing yards Sunday
Taylor carried the ball 21 times for 96 yards and a touchdown and caught his only target for eight yards in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
The 96 yards were a season high for Taylor in an injury-plagued 2023, and he extended his scoring streak to four games with a five-yard TD run in the first quarter. Over those four contests, a stretch interrupted by a three-game absence due to thumb surgery, Taylor has delivered 299 rushing yards and five touchdowns. The Colts remain in a three-way tie atop the AFC South, so the fourth-year RB figures to be a big part of the game plan again in a Week 18 showdown with the Texans.
Dec 24, 2023
Heavy workload in return
Taylor rushed 18 times for 43 yards and a touchdown and failed to bring in his only target in the Colts' 29-10 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor had the backfield nearly all to himself in his return from a three-game injury due to a thumb issue, as Zack Moss (arm) was sidelined. Taylor certainly got the type of workload that would have been expected under such a scenario, but he found tough sledding against a Falcons defense that has frequently been stingy against the run. Taylor's lack of involvement in the passing game was also disappointing, considering Indianapolis was also down Michael Pittman (concussion). Taylor did salvage his day with a one-yard touchdown run that opened the scoring and capped off the Colts' opening drive, and he'll aim to boost his numbers back up irrespective of Moss' availability in a Week 17 home matchup against the Raiders on New Year's Eve.
Dec 22, 2023
Good to go for Sunday
Taylor (thumb) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Falcons after he was listed as a full practice participant Wednesday through Friday.
ANALYSIS
Wednesday's practice was merely a walk-through session, but Taylor was able to take all reps during more traditional practices Thursday and Friday and apparently cleared up any lingering concern about his ability to play through the surgically repaired thumb that had kept him sidelined for Indianapolis' previous three games. Prior to having his thumb surgery, Taylor had averaged 17.2 carries and 2.4 targets over his most recent five games, and he could return to that robust workload in his first game back since the Colts may not have capable No. 2 back Zack Moss (forearm) available to spell him. Moss is officially listed as questionable for Week 16 after he exited early in last Saturday's 30-13 win over the Steelers with the forearm injury, but he didn't practice in any capacity this week and may be trending toward sitting out. If Moss is sidelined Week 16, the Colts would be left with Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson as depth options behind Taylor.
Dec 21, 2023
Makes first post-surgery practice
Taylor (thumb) was a full practice participant Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The Colts listed Taylor as a full participant on their second straight practice report, though Wednesday's was merely an estimate after the team held a walk-through session to kick off Week 16 prep. Taylor had missed each of Indianapolis' last three games while recovering from Nov. 29 surgery to repair a ligament tear in his right thumb, and while the running back wouldn't formally confirm Thursday that he'll return to action Sunday in Atlanta, all signs point to him playing following the full practice. Assuming Taylor does play Sunday, he'll be doing so with some sort of protective brace or wrap on his injured thumb, per James Boyd of The Athletic. Taylor's potential return comes at an opportune time for the Colts, who could be without the services of Zack Moss (forearm) on Sunday. Moss had served as the Colts' lead back in Taylor's absence for each of the last three games before exiting this past Saturday's 30-13 win over Pittsburgh with a right forearm injury that continued to keep him off the field for Th
Dec 20, 2023
Estimated as full participant
Taylor (thumb) was listed as a full participant on Wednesday's practice estimate.
ANALYSIS
Taylor's "full" listing Wednesday -- albeit for what was a walk-through session -- has the running back trending toward a return to action Sunday against the Falcons. If Taylor -- who last suited up in Week 12 -- is able to maintain full participation Thursday and Friday, he'll even have a chance to approach Sunday's game minus an injury designation. Meanwhile, Zack Moss was deemed a non-participant Wednesday due to a forearm injury and looks to be in a worse spot on the health front after he had served as the Colts' starting running back for the past three games while Taylor was sidelined.
Dec 20, 2023
Progressing well
Coach Shane Steichen relayed Wednesday that Taylor (thumb) is progressing well as Sunday's game against the Falcons approaches, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Rapoport, Taylor is expected to be present for Wednesday's walk-through and there remains optimism that the running back could return to action this weekend. With that in mind, Taylor will be evaluated on a daily basis. Meanwhile, Zack Moss -- who has been filling in for Taylor during his absence -- is dealing with a shoulder injury that could impact his Week 16 availability.
Dec 17, 2023
Week 16 return possible
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Sunday that Taylor (thumb) is "feeling good" and could be back in action for the team's Week 16 game against the Falcons on Dec. 24, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. "We'll see how the week goes," Steichen said.
ANALYSIS
While continuing his recovery from Nov. 29 surgery on his right thumb, Taylor remained sidelined for Saturday's 30-13 win over the Steelers, marking the running back's third consecutive absence. The Colts will begin Week 16 prep Wednesday, which will mark three weeks following Taylor's thumb procedure. The team is expected to hold a walk-through session that day, but if Taylor is able to practice in some fashion Thursday and/or Friday, he could get the green light to return to the lineup next Sunday. Zack Moss has filled in as the Colts' lead back for the past three games, but his status is also murky for Week 16 after he exited the win over the Steelers with an arm injury.
Dec 16, 2023
Could be back in Week 16
There is a reportedly optimism that Taylor (thumb) could potentially return to action Dec. 24 against the Falcons, according to Ian Rappaport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has already been ruled out for Saturday's game against the Steelers, but Rappaport notes that it's possible that the running back could return to action in Week 16, following a three-game absence. Added context on that front will arrive once the Colts begin posting injury reports next week, but in the meantime, Zack Moss will continue to lead the team's backfield versus Pittsburgh.
Dec 14, 2023
Won't face Steelers
Coach Shane Steichen relayed Thursday that Taylor (thumb) won't play Saturday against the Steelers, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor is thus slated to miss his third straight game, which sets the stage for Zack Moss to continue to lead the Colts' rushing attack in Week 15. Taylor will now target a potential return to action Dec. 24 against the Falcons.
Dec 14, 2023
Remains absent from practice
Taylor (thumb) remained sidelined during Thursday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With Taylor still not practicing following back-to-back 'DNP' listings Tuesday and Wednesday, the running back is trending toward being ruled out for Saturday's game against the Steelers later Thursday. If that's the case, Zack Moss would be in line to continue to lead the Colts' backfield for the third straight contest.
Dec 13, 2023
Not practicing Wednesday
Taylor (thumb) wasn't spotted at practice Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who was listed as a non-participant on Tuesday's estimated report, has one more opportunity to practice ahead of Saturday's game against the Steelers. If he remains out for a third straight game this weekend, Zack Moss would continue to lead the Colts' rushing attack versus Pittsburgh.
Dec 12, 2023
Not practicing to begin week
Taylor (thumb) was listed as a non-participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report.
ANALYSIS
Per Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis, head coach Shane Steichen spoke to the media earlier Tuesday and didn't definitively rule Taylor out from returning to game action Week 15 against the Steelers, though the expectation remains that the running back will miss his third straight contest while recovering from Nov. 29 thumb surgery. Taylor's continued absence from practice supports the notion that he won't be available to play this Saturday, setting Zack Moss up for another turn as the Colts' lead back.
Dec 12, 2023
No update on Week 15 status
Head coach Shane Steichen said that the Colts will see how Taylor progresses in his recovery from right thumb surgery throughout the week before a determination is made on his status for Saturday's game against the Steelers, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Steichen isn't definitively ruling Taylor out for the Week 15 contest, the expectation remains that the running back won't be cleared to practice this week and will miss a third consecutive game after he underwent surgery Nov. 29. At the time Taylor had his surgery, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that the 24-year-old was facing a recovery timeline of around 3-to-5 weeks, and Steichen added Tuesday that the Colts are still planning for Taylor to play again at some point this season. Zack Moss looks poised to lead the Indianapolis backfield for at least one more game, though a return to the lineup Week 16 against the Falcons could still be realistic for Taylor.
Dec 8, 2023
Officially out for Week 14
Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed Friday that Taylor (thumb) is out for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Taylor will miss his second straight game after he failed to practice in any fashion this week while he continues his recovery from right thumb surgery. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Colts are bracing for a 3-to-5-week absence for Taylor, so the standout running back may be unlikely to make it back for Indianapolis' Week 15 matchup with the Steelers on Dec. 16. Zack Moss should handle a three-down role out of the Colts backfield for the duration of Taylor's absence.
Dec 6, 2023
Listed as DNP
Taylor (thumb) is listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's estimated practice report.
ANALYSIS
Taylor is unlikely to practice or play this week, as Colts president Jim Irsay mentioned a timeline of 2-to-3 weeks when the running back had surgery last Wednesday, with NFL.com's Ian Rapoport then reporting Sunday that it might be more like 3-to-5 weeks. Either way, Zack Moss likely will get a large workload this Sunday against the Bengals after playing 94 percent of snaps on offense in an overtime win over the Titans in Week 13.
Dec 6, 2023
No update from coach
Coach Shane Steichen declined to provide an update on Taylor (thumb) on Wednesday, merely saying "we'll see" when a reporter asked him if the running back would definitely miss another game, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor underwent surgery last week, with Colts owner Jim Irsay estimating that the RB would miss two or three games. A report from Ian Rapoport over the weekend suggested it would be more like three-to-five weeks, which might leave Zack Moss as Indy's lead back into and through the fantasy playoffs. Moss played 94 percent of snaps in an overtime win over the Titans this past Sunday, though he failed to match his production as a starter earlier this season, finishing with 21 touches for 57 yards. Moss likely will fill in for Taylor again Sunday against the Bengals, even if the Colts aren't quite ready to make any declarations early in the week.
Dec 3, 2023
Facing 3-to-5-week recovery
Taylor is expected to require 3-to-5 weeks to recover from the right thumb surgery he underwent Wednesday in Los Angeles, sources tell Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
The estimated recovery timeline provided by Rapoport differs slightly from the one Colts owner Jim Irsay initially offered up Tuesday, when he said the star running back would be sidelined for 2-to-3 weeks, according to James Boyd of The Athletic. Because it's not a given that Taylor will need to miss at least four games while recovering from the procedure, the Colts will hold off on placing him on injured reserve with the hope that he'll be ready to play Week 16 in Atlanta or possibly even Week 15 versus Pittsburgh. At least for the next two games, however, Zack Moss is primed to step in as the Colts' lead back, a role he handled between Weeks 2 and 4 while Taylor was completing his recovery from January ankle surgery. Moss played more than three-fourths of the Colts' offensive snaps in each of those three contests while averaging 24.0 touches per contest, so he could end up handling one of the heavier workloads among all backs in the league for however long Taylor is sidelined.
Dec 1, 2023
Ruled out for Sunday
Taylor (thumb) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, coach Shane Steichen noted earlier this week that he doesn't have a timetable for when Taylor might return from a thumb procedure, but at this stage an IR stint doesn't appear to be in the cards for the running back. For the duration of his absence, Zack Moss - who filled in for Taylor earlier this season when he was on the reserve/PUP list due to an ankle injury -- is slated to lead the teams' backfield, backed up by Trey Sermon.
Nov 29, 2023
Set to undergo thumb surgery
Taylor, who sustained a right thumb injury during Week 12 action, is slated to undergo surgery to address the issue, coach Shane Steichen confirmed Wednesday, JJ Stankevitz of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that Steichen isn't sure how much time Taylor is in line to miss, but injured reserve is not being considered for the running back at this stage. In any case, look for the Colts to officially rule Taylor out for Sunday's game against the Titans once the team's final Week 13 injury report is released Friday. In Taylor's looming absence, Zack Moss is poised to lead the Indianapolis backfield as he did earlier this season when Taylor was on the reserve/PUP list with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Trey Sermon is slated to back up Moss, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
Nov 28, 2023
Needs surgery, to miss 2-to-3 weeks
Colts owner Jim Irsay said that Taylor will undergo thumb surgery in Los Angeles on Wednesday, and the team is hopeful the running back will be able to return to action in 2-to-3 weeks, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Shane Steichen will likely elaborate further on Taylor's status when he speaks to the media Wednesday, but at least for the team's Week 13 game at Tennessee, Indianapolis is expected to turn its backfield over to Zack Moss, who handled the lead role Weeks 2 through 4 while Taylor was on the PUP list as he completed his recovery from January ankle surgery. Upon his return from the PUP list Week 5, Taylor was eased back in for three games as part of a timeshare with Moss, but Taylor had dominated the snaps and touches for each of the subsequent four contests. Taylor sustained the injury at some point during this past Sunday's 27-20 win over the Buccaneers, but he still played 40 snaps on his way to finishing with 91 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.
Nov 28, 2023
Status uncertain due to thumb issue
Taylor suffered a thumb injury in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Buccaneers that will require further evaluation and could threaten his availability moving forward, sources tell Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
The Colts didn't provide any indication that Taylor emerged from the Week 12 contest with an injury after he played 40 snaps and carried 15 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Tampa Bay. An update on Taylor's status will likely come within the next day or two once he undergoes a more thorough evaluation on his thumb, but with his availability for Sunday's game in Tennessee -- and potentially beyond -- now up in the air, Zack Moss is worthy of rostering on speculation in most fantasy formats. Moss had previously served as the Colts' clear lead back Weeks 2 through 4 while Taylor opened the season on the PUP list.
Nov 26, 2023
Scores twice in Week 12 win
Taylor rushed 15 times for 91 yards and two touchdowns and wasn't targeted in the passing game during the Colts' 27-20 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor's yardage total was his second highest of the season, and his final line marked his first time in three games averaging over 4.0 yards per carry. The fourth-year pro punched in his third and fourth touchdowns of the campaign on four- and one-yard runs in the first and fourth quarters, respectively. Although his blanking through the air for the first time this season was naturally a disappointment, Taylor's ability to produce in that area isn't in question. The talented back next faces a tough Titans run defense in a Week 13 road divisional matchup.
Nov 12, 2023
Scores in second straight
Taylor rushed the ball 23 times for 69 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 10-6 win over the Patriots. He added one catch for six yards.
ANALYSIS
Taylor got his work done early, as he accounted for nine carries, 30 yards and his touchdown on the Colts' first offensive possession. Though he was held in check thereafter, Taylor saw a season-high 24 touches, while Zack Moss had just one. That bodes well for his production to close the season, though the Colts are now heading into their bye and will face tough matchups on the ground against the Buccaneers and Titans in Weeks 12 and 13, respectively.
Nov 5, 2023
Finds end zone in Carolina
Taylor carried the ball 18 times for 47 yards and caught all five of his targets for 22 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-13 win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
The rushing yards total was his lowest since Week 6, but Taylor made an impact as a receiver instead, taking a screen pass from Gardner Minshew 10 yards for a TD in the second quarter. The running back's brought in at least three catches in three of the last four games, posting a 14-115-1 line on 17 targets over that stretch. Taylor should again be one of the focal points of the Colts' offense in Week 10 against a Patriots defense that's given up a touchdown to a RB in three straight contests.
Oct 29, 2023
Another encouraging effort in loss
Taylor rushed 12 times for 95 yards and brought in one of two targets for two yards in the Colts' 38-27 loss to the Saints on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor put together an impressive performance on the ground for the second straight week, but he notably logged just one more carry than backfield mate Zack Moss, who also recorded the Colts' only rushing touchdown. Taylor does appear to be explosive following his offseason ankle surgery, but with Moss also remaining effective and a similarly proficient pass catcher, it appears the duo will continue to operate in a fairly even timeshare for the foreseeable future. Taylor draws a favorable matchup in Week 9 on the road against the vulnerable Panthers run defense.
Oct 22, 2023
Totals 120 yards in split backfield
Taylor rushed the ball 18 times for 75 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 39-38 loss to the Browns. He added three receptions on four targets for 45 yards.
ANALYSIS
Taylor split carries with Zack Moss evenly, similar to the workload split in Week 6. While that's a disappointing outcome for Taylor, his performance was excellent. His longest gain on the ground went for 24 yards, and he also chipped in lengthy gains of 20 and 19 yards as a receiver. Taylor supplemented his yardage total with a five-yard touchdown run to record his first score of the season. The ongoing backfield split will keep Taylor's potential tempered, but he appears to have regained his explosiveness and efficiency.
Oct 15, 2023
Impressive as receiver in loss
Taylor rushed eight times for 19 yards and brought in five of six targets for 46 yards in the Colts' 37-20 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was stymied throughout the day on the ground, with his longest run going for only five yards. However, a 40-yard reception helped salvage the star running back's fantasy day to an extent, and his final receiving yardage total serving as his highest since Week 8 of the 2021 season. Taylor did see an uptick in touches from a Week 5 season debut in which he logged seven overall, and he notably recorded one more carry than backfield mate Zack Moss versus Jacksonville. Taylor's Week 7 matchup sees him draw a tough home matchup against the Browns.
Oct 11, 2023
Larger workload expected Week 6
Head coach Shane Steichen said Wednesday that the Colts plan to ramp up Taylor's workload Sunday against the Jaguars, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor played just 10 snaps in his season debut against the Titans in Week 5, logging six carries and one catch during his brief time in the game. He had spent the first four weeks of the season on the PUP list due to an ankle injury and was signed to a three-year, $42 million extension shortly after being activated. Zack Moss rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns against Tennessee, and while Moss has likely earned himself a regular role on offense moving forward, Taylor should get the majority of backfield touches once he's up to full speed.
Oct 8, 2023
Limited in return
Taylor (ankle) carried the ball six times for 18 yards in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Titans. He added one reception for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
Taylor made his season debut after being activated from the PUP list, though he was eased back in his return. His longest gain on the ground went for only five yards and his biggest contribution came as a pass catcher. Taylor's workload will undoubtedly tick up in future games, but Zack Moss has performed well as the lead back and could remain a part of the offensive gameplan more than previously expected.
Oct 8, 2023
Could split work with Moss in debut
Taylor (ankle), who was activated from the PUP list Saturday and doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Titans, could split snaps with Zack Moss in his season debut, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Shortly after being activated from the PUP list, Taylor came to terms with the Colts on a three-year, $42 million extension, so he'll be locked in as Indianapolis' feature back for the foreseeable future after the team had listened to trade pitches for the 24-year-old running back leading up to Week 1. Though Taylor will likely reclaim one of the heavier snap and touch counts in the NFL beginning in Week 6, the Colts could be inclined to ease him back into action while he plays his first game since Dec. 17. Before practicing Wednesday through Friday this week, Taylor hadn't taken part in any on-field work with the Colts since undergoing surgery in January to address a high-ankle sprain. Taylor is still likely to serve as the Colts' top backfield option Sunday and projects as a must-start player in all but the shallowest of fantasy leagues, but Moss has been a capable between-the-tackles runner over the past three weeks and won't be excised from the game plan entirely Week 5 while head coach Shane Steichen aim
Oct 7, 2023
Gets three-year extension
Taylor (ankle), whom the Colts activated from the reserve/PUP list Saturday, agreed to a three-year, $42 million contract extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The deal puts Taylor among the top-three highest paid running backs in the NFL with $26 million coming in guarantees. It's a massive win for both sides after a tumultuous offseason that saw the talented fourth-year running back in a public battle for a pay raise. After being brought back from the PUP list and with a new contract in tow, Taylor will make his season debut Sunday against the Titans. Taylor had been dealing with a high-ankle sprain through large portions of the 2022 season and eventually required surgery in January. Even though he's now on the books through 2026, the Colts could be motivated to ease Taylor back into the mix Sunday, so expect Zack Moss to still see plenty of backup work in Week 5.
Oct 7, 2023
Ready for Sunday
Taylor (ankle) was activated off the reserve/PUP list Saturday. The running back does not carry an injury designation for Sunday's contest against the Titans.
ANALYSIS
It's hard to imagine the Colts activating Taylor off the PUP list and not playing the star running back immediately, but it's absolutely encouraging the fourth-year player does not carry an injury designation. The greater question is the exact workload Taylor will have coming off an ankle injury, and subsequent surgery, that has given him issues dating back to the middle of last season. The emergence of Zack Moss as a consistent option out of the backfield likely mitigates the need for Taylor to receive his full workload immediately, but the exact playing time split hasn't been announced by the team or any relevant sources.
Oct 6, 2023
Deemed questionable for Sunday
The Colts list Taylor (ankle) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was able to practice fully this week, but in order for the running back to play this weekend, the Colts must activate him from the reserve/PUP list ahead of Saturday's deadline to do so in advance of Week 5 action. Per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star when asked if Taylor would play Sunday, coach Shane Steichen said, "We'll see." The fact that Taylor has been deemed questionable by the team suggests that it's not a lock that he'll be activated to face Tennessee, but if he does end up suiting up he'd reenter a backfield that's been led capably out of the gate by Zack Moss, a context that could potentially result in an initial timeshare.
Oct 5, 2023
Puts in full practice
Taylor (ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Taylor had been listed as a full participant for the team's first Week 5 session Wednesday, when the Colts opened his 21-day evaluation window for a return from the PUP list. However, since Indianapolis merely held a walk-through Wednesday, Taylor's ability to take every rep in a more traditional practice Thursday provided further confirmation that he's fully recovered from the right ankle surgery he underwent in late January. According to Stephen Holder of ESPN.com, Taylor implied that he's still committed to the Colts, despite putting in a request for a trade in August after not getting a contract extension offer to his liking earlier in the offseason. Taylor thus looks like he has a chance to play Sunday against the Titans, though the Colts may not provide clarity on that front until after Friday's practice or even until Saturday, the deadline for Indianapolis to make any additions to the 53-man roster for the Week 5 matchup.

Says he's past ankle injury
While addressing reporters Thursday, Taylor (ankle) indicated that he's 100 percent healthy, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
In his listed return to practice Wednesday -- which opened a 21-day window for the Colts to activate the running back off the reserve/PUP list -- Taylor was deemed a full participant in the team's walk-through. While Taylor declined to comment on his contract situation and previous trade request Thursday, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com relays that he did note that "if somebody wasn't committed, they wouldn't be here." With that in mind, Taylor has two full practices to go through in advance of Sunday's game against the Titans, and we should have added context afterward with regard to his chances of being activated for Week 5 action.

Back at practice
Taylor (ankle) was listed as a full participant on Wednesday's practice estimate.
ANALYSIS
In light of his presence at Wednesday's walk-through, the Colts have a 21-day window in which to activate the running back off the PUP list, with Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis noting that it's possible Taylor could play as soon as Sunday against the Titans. For his part, coach Shane Steichen said "we'll see," in terms of Taylor's Week 5 status. 'We'll see how practice goes. We've got the walk-through (Wednesday) and then practice Thursday and Friday, so we'll see where he's at." Either way, it appears as though Taylor has moved past his ankle issue, but his relationship with the Colts organization remains a fluid situation in the wake of his previous request to be traded.

Set to practice Wednesday
Colts head coach Shane Steichen confirmed that Taylor (ankle) will resume practicing with the team Wednesday, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
After spending the first four weeks of the regular season on the PUP list while continuing his recovery from January right ankle surgery, Taylor will make his return to practice Week 5 when first eligible. Before landing on the PUP list Aug. 29, Taylor had put in a request to be traded, and while Indianapolis ultimately entertained the request, the team wasn't able to find an offer to its liking. The Colts could still revisit moving Taylor ahead of the Oct. 31 trade deadline, but the running back looks as though he'll put any discord with the organization aside and gear up for a return to game action now that he's fully healthy following surgery. Per Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star, Steichen didn't rule out the possibility of Taylor being activated from the PUP list prior to this Sunday's game against the Titans, but for the time being, his return to practice Wednesday will merely open up a 21-day window in which the Colts can evaluate him for a return to the 53-man roster.

Could resume practicing Wednesday
The Colts plan to open the 21-day practice window Wednesday for Taylor (ankle), who is fully healthy after opening the season on the PUP list, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network report.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who underwent surgery on his right ankle in January, was placed on the PUP list Aug. 29, with the transaction coming just weeks after the star running back had put in a request to be traded. The Colts ended up initiating trade discussions toward the end of the preseason, but after finding no offers to its liking, Indianapolis has since held no recent talks with teams regarding a deal. According to Rapoport and Pelissero, multiple teams are still interested in swinging a trade for Taylor and signing him to a contract extension in line with the NFL's top backs, but for now, the Colts' focus is getting the 24-year-old back on the field. In recent weeks, Taylor has been conducting his rehab at the team's facility, so he presumably plans on practicing and playing with the Colts even though he prefers to be dealt elsewhere. If Taylor puts in full practices Wednesday through Friday, he could have a chance at making his season debut as soon as next Sunday against the Titans, though the Colts would have until

Ramping up, eyeing Week 5 return
Taylor (ankle) has increased the intensity of his workouts and appears to be ready to return from the PUP list when first eligible Week 5, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was placed on the PUP list prior to the start of the season while he continued to rehab his surgically repaired right ankle, but the running back might have opened the campaign on the 53-man roster had he not put in a request for a trade upon reporting to camp. The Colts ultimately granted Taylor permission to seek out a trade a couple weeks after he submitted his request, but the offers Indianapolis received from inquiring teams apparently weren't satisfactory. Now that Taylor is a month removed from landing on the PUP list, it's unclear where his relationship stands with the Colts, but the 24-year-old looks as though he could be ready to play Week 5, whether it's with Indianapolis or another team. That being said, if Taylor is unwilling to rejoin the Colts at the start of the upcoming week or if the Colts elect to delay his activation from the PUP list while re-engaging in trade talks, it's possible his 2023 debut comes at a later date.

Could be ready to play Week 5
Taylor (ankle) could pass a physical as soon as Sunday and is planning to return to action when first eligible to return from the PUP list Week 5 against the Titans, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Indianapolis placed Taylor on its PUP list Aug. 29 after he missed time in camp while healing from January surgery on his right ankle. About a month before landing on the PUP list, Taylor put in a request to be moved elsewhere and was eventually granted permission to pursue a deal, but the Colts weren't able to find another team willing to meet their high asking price in a trade for the running back. Though Taylor's relationship with the Colts still remains on shaky ground, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network relays that the 24-year-old is "training hard" as he works his way back from ankle surgery, and there remains a "slim, but possible" chance that he returns to play for Indianapolis when activated. According to Rapoport, Taylor would likely need a contract extension before suiting up for the Colts, something that Indianapolis has not yet been willing to offer. The Colts will most likely continue to engage with teams in trade talks over the next four weeks, assuming Taylor passes his physical and the reports regar

Staying around team facilities
Taylor (ankle) has been at the Colts' team facilities rehabbing and attending meetings, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
He wants to be traded but isn't holding out, and recent comments from GM Chris Ballard suggest the Colts still hope Taylor will change his mind and end up playing for the team at some point after Week 4. He's ineligible for the first four games while on the PUP list, with his slower-than-expected rehab from late-January ankle surgery playing a big role in the complicated situation. If Taylor is eventually medically cleared and removed from the PUP list, he'd have to report to the Colts for at least the final six games of 2023 to accrue a season and become a free agent next year. For now, the Colts head into Week 1 with Deon Jackson, Evan Hull and possibly Zack Moss (arm) as their running backs against the Jaguars.
Aug 31, 2023
Could mend relationship with team
General manager Chris Ballard said Wednesday that he thinks Taylor (ankle) and the Colts can still repair their relationship, Gregg Doyel of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Ballard said he "won't quit on the relationship" even though "the situation sucks" for player, team and fans. For what it's worth, Doyel disagrees with the GM's assessment that things can be fixed, noting that Taylor has made it clear he's done with the Colts. Taylor is ineligible for the first four games of the season on the PUP list and reportedly still has some pain in his surgically repaired ankle, but the Colts can trade him in the meantime if they're willing to rethink a self-imposed Tuesday deadline. Zack Moss (arm), Deon Jackson and Evan Hull are the three running backs on Indy's initial 53-man roster.
Aug 29, 2023
Expected to stay on PUP list
With no trade having occurred Tuesday, Taylor (ankle) is now expected to remain on the PUP list ahead of Week 1, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Assuming that's the case, the running back -- who has been on the active/PUP list through training camp -- wouldn't be eligible to play during the first four weeks of the coming NFL season. In that context, the Colts' top running back options ahead of Week 1 are Zack Moss (arm), Deon Jackson and rookie Evan Hull.
Aug 23, 2023
Given until Tuesday to seek trade
The Colts have reportedly given Taylor (ankle) until Tuesday to find a suitable trade after having granted the running back permission to seek one, Stephen Holder of ESPN notes.
ANALYSIS
According to Holder, six teams have reportedly inquired about Taylor's availability, while two are thought to have made trade offers. It remains to be seen if any team is willing to give the Colts enough in return for the star running back to advance a deal, but it appears as though Indy is looking for some level of clarity by Tuesday, which is when NFL franchises are required to cut their rosters down to 53 players. Moreover, Taylor is on the active-physically PUP list and must be activated or placed on reserve-PUP (in which case he'd miss the first four games of the regular season) by Tuesday.
Aug 21, 2023
Granted permission to seek trade
The Colts have reportedly given Taylor (ankle) permission to seek a trade, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Colts owner Jim Irsay had previously indicated that Taylor would not be traded, but now it appears as though the star running back, who remains on the active/PUP list, could potentially be on the move after all.
Aug 19, 2023
To rejoin team Sunday
Taylor (ankle) is slated to rejoin the Colts on Sunday, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor hasn't logged any on-field work since suffering a high right-ankle sprain Week 15 of last season. Since then, his recovery extended into the offseason program and training camp, the latter of which he began on the active/PUP list. He also made a formal trade request of the Colts in the middle of it all, and he also has been away from the team since Monday to tend to a personal matter. Coach Shane Steichen told Chappell on Saturday that Taylor still needs to receive medical clearance, so it remains to be seen when he may be able to take part in practice.
Aug 16, 2023
Away from team due to personal matter
Taylor (ankle), who had returned to Indianapolis on Monday, has left the Colts again due to a personal matter, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Stephen Holder of ESPN.com, the Colts released a statement Wednesday noting that the running back -- who remains on the active PUP list -- "had a personal matter arise...and his absence is excused." At this time there is no timetable for Taylor's return to the team, but according to Holder, it's his understanding that Taylor's current absence is not related to his contract situation.
Aug 14, 2023
Back with team
Taylor, who had been away from the team while rehabbing his injured ankle, is back with the Colts on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, the running back remains on the active/PUP list and Rapoport suggests that Taylor's stance regarding his desire to be traded hasn't changed. With Zack Moss sidelined by an arm injury, Deon Jackson, Evan Hull, Kenyan Drake, Jake Funk and Jason Huntley currently profile as the Colts' top available backfield options.
Aug 13, 2023
Expected back at camp this week
Coach Shane Steichen said Sunday that he expects Taylor (ankle) back at training camp this week, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor has been on the active/PUP list to begin training camp and was away from the Colts' facility recently while seeking treatment on his surgically repaired ankle. Although he's expected back at camp soon, he still has an outstanding trade request and has said that he'll only practice when he's 100 percent healthy. Steichen also said Sunday that he doesn't know exactly which day Taylor will rejoin the team.
Aug 8, 2023
Excused absence Tuesday
Taylor (ankle) received an excused absence from practice Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that Taylor, who remains on the active/PUP list, is away from the Colts' facility as he seeks treatment on his surgically-repaired ankle. As a result, Rapoport indicates that the running back "will be away from the team for a bit" while he continues to manage his ankle issue. Meanwhile, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis relays that for his part coach Shane Steichen hopes that Taylor -- who had previously requested a trade -- rejoins practice at some point during training camp, noting "I'd like to see that. We'll see how it all plays out though."
Aug 3, 2023
No update Thursday
Coach Shane Steichen told reporters Thursday that he has no update on Taylor, who officially remains on the active/PUP list due to an ankle issue, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
An ongoing contract dispute and recent trade request have led to speculation that Taylor is healthy enough to practice, though Steichen suggested Monday that the running back hasn't actually been cleared by the medical staff. Taylor hasn't said much publicly, other than denying a report from Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis that said the 24-year-old suffered a back injury while working out on his own and thus might be placed on the non-football injury list. It's a complicated situation with no clear solution in sight, and it's certainly possible a slower-than-hoped-for recovery from offseason ankle surgery remains a factor in Taylor's absence. The running back was present for Thursday's practice, watching from the sideline as he has for the past week-plus.
Jul 31, 2023
Situation addressed by coach
When discussing Taylor (ankle), who is on the active/PUP list, coach Shane Steichen noted Monday "right now (the running back) is on this football team, and when the medical staff clears him, he should be out there," Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Per NFL.com, reports surfaced Sunday that the Colts were believed to be contemplating placing Taylor (who is bouncing back from an ankle injury) on the non-football injury list due to a back issue. The running back subsequently denied that he was dealing with any sort of back injury, while for his part, Steichen noted "(Taylor is) just dealing with something right now, and I'm going to refrain from getting into that." Either way, things remain contentious between Taylor and the team after his recent trade request (which Colts owner Jim Irsay says the franchise doesn't plan to act on) and there's no timetable for his potential return to the field. In addition to Taylor's ongoing absence, the Colts' backfield depth was further depleted Monday when No. 2 back Zack Moss suffered a broken arm that threatens his Week 1 status. Indy's top available RB options are Deon Jackson and Evan Hull, with Jake Funk and Zavier Scott also in the depth mix.
Jul 30, 2023
Could be placed on NFI list
The Colts are considering placing Taylor on the non-football injury due to a back injury that he sustained during the offseason, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor began training camp on the active/PUP list after failing to pass his pre-camp physical. He's been rehabbing from January ankle surgery and is also dealing with a back injury that he sustained while working out on his own during the offseason. In addition to his injuries, Taylor formally requested a trade after meeting with Colts owner Jim Irsay on Saturday. Irsay has indicated that the Colts don't plan to trade Taylor this year, but it's unclear when the 24-year-old will be able to practice. The Colts wouldn't be obligated to pay Taylor during the 2023 season if he doesn't play due to a non-football injury, and his contract would carry over to the 2024 campaign, which would complicate his contract situation even more as he enters the final year of his rookie contract. Irsay has said that the team isn't currently discussing an extension with the star running back.
Jul 29, 2023
Demands trade from Colts
Taylor (ankle) formally requested a trade after meeting with Indianapolis owner Jim Irsay on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor and Irsay reportedly met for almost one hour on the owner's bus parked at Colts training camp Saturday, according to Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star. Irsay said the two did not discuss a possible extension for the star running back and that "at this point, that's not something we're discussing," per Atkins. Taylor is entering the final season of his four-year rookie contract with the Colts, and he has reportedly never been offered any extension by the team, according to Stephen Holder of ESPN.com. This appears to have upset the 24-year-old enough to ask out of his situation with the team. Taylor led the league with 1,811 rushing yards in 2021, though his production took a hit in 2022 when he tallied 861 rushing yards on 192 carries across 11 games, as he missed time throughout the campaign while dealing with an ankle injury. He underwent surgery to address this issue Jan. 29, and he opened training camp on the active/PUP list after not participating in minicamp. Nevertheless, given his status one

Still not 100 percent
Taylor (ankle) was present at practice when the Colts opened training camp Wednesday but spent the entire session standing on the sidelines, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan reports.
ANALYSIS
On the bright side, Taylor didn't have a boot on his surgically repaired ankle. Coach Shane Steichen refused to provide an updated recovery timeline for Taylor, who is on the active/PUP list. Steichen said Taylor will resume practicing once he's 100 percent healthy, which means the running back has yet to fully regain health at this point.
Jul 25, 2023
Placed on PUP list
Taylor (ankle) was placed on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old missed six games last season, including the final three, and had arthroscopic debridement surgery on his right ankle in January. It was thought that Taylor would be ready for the start of training camp, so this could be just a procedural move to ease him back into action. However, GM Chris Ballard did not mention Taylor as a PUP candidate earlier Tuesday, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports, so watch to make sure something more isn't at play.
Jul 11, 2023
On track for camp
Colts owner Jim Irsay said Monday that Taylor (ankle) is "healed up" after missing the team's offseason program, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
This doesn't necessarily mean Taylor will be a full participant when training camp starts in late July, but it does confirm that the Colts consider him healthy and expect him to be ready for Week 1. The 24-year-old missed six games last season, including the final three, and had arthroscopic debridement surgery on his right ankle in January. Taylor now enters the fourth and final year of his rookie contract as one of the favorites to lead the NFL in rushing -- something he accomplished in 2021 when he also paced the league in carries, rushing TDs and scrimmage yards. The addition of QB Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall adds some competition for high-value carries, but it may also help Taylor's per-carry efficiency and eventually uplift the entire Indianapolis offense. There is some chance, perhaps, that veteran QB Gardner Minshew makes starts at the beginning of the season.
Jun 15, 2023
Targets training camp return
Taylor (ankle) sat out the Colts' spring practices, but is hoping to be ready for the start of training camp next month, the Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
A lingering high ankle sprain hampered Taylor last season and in January the running back underwent what Ian Rapoport of NFL Network referred to afterward as "an arthroscopic debridement, a minimally invasive procedure to clean out the ankle." Once training camp rolls around, Taylor -- who is headed into the final year of his rookie contract -- aims to join his teammates on the field, though it's possible he could be limited to begin with. Assuming no setbacks, the 24-year-old will reclaim his role as the Colts' undisputed top back and will look to engineer a bounce-back effort following a subpar (by his standards) 2022 campaign in which he carried 192 times for 861 yards and four TDs, while adding 28 catches for 143 yards in 11 games.
Jun 2, 2023
Not yet practicing
Taylor (ankle) isn't participating at Friday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old relayed in April that the arthroscopic debridement surgery he underwent on his right ankle in January was a "perfect success," but he's apparently not yet ready to practice. Taylor missed the final three games of the season due to the ankle injury, and the Colts are likely to remain cautious with his offseason work. He's expected to be fully healthy for the start of training camp.
Apr 19, 2023
Pleased with results from surgery
Taylor said the offseason surgery on his ankle was a "perfect success", Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was shut down for the season after suffering a high-ankle sprain Week 15, and while he initially hoped the injury would heal without surgery, he ultimately underwent an arthroscopic debridement at the end of July. It's not considered to be an especially invasive procedure, potentially allowing for some participation in the offseason program. At worst, Taylor should be ready for the start of training camp as the Colts look to bounce back from an ugly 2022 under new head coach Shane Steichen, who previously served as offensive coordinator for the Chargers (2020) and Eagles (2021-22). It isn't yet clear who will be the starting quarterback, as the Colts signed Gardner Minshew this offseason but also have been mentioned as a potential destination for Lamar Jackson or the top rookies in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Jan 29, 2023
Undergoes ankle procedure
Taylor underwent surgery to repair his right ankle this past Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
As Taylor's offseason embarked, it had yet to be decided if he'd have a procedure to address the ankle injury that landed him on IR, but it was subsequently determined that he'd undergo an arthroscopic debridement, described by the report as "a minimally invasive procedure to clean out the ankle." With Rapoport adding that Taylor didn't have any structural damage in his ankle, the Colts' top running back now has plenty of time to recover before training camp, by which point the 2020 second-rounder declared that he'll "be ready to go."
Jan 9, 2023
No decision on surgery yet
Taylor (ankle) said Monday he will meet with doctors to decide about the possibility of undergoing surgery, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor missed the final three games of the season due to a right high-ankle sprain, and it sounds as though a decision on whether or not the injury necessitates surgery hasn't yet been made. Through his 11 appearances in 2022, Taylor racked up 861 yards and four touchdowns on 192 carries, with another 28 catches (on 40 targets) for 143 yards. The running back's situation in Indianapolis could look very different to start the 2023 campaign, health not withstanding. With three seasons under his belt, Taylor is now looking ahead to the final year of his rookie deal.
Dec 20, 2022
Going to injured reserve
The Colts placed Taylor on injured reserve Tuesday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
This comes as no surprise after Taylor suffered a high-ankle sprain during Saturday's 39-36 loss at Minnesota. He's been tending to issues with his right ankle all season, and with three absences to come down the stretch, he'll end up missing six contests overall. In his 11 games of work, though, Taylor racked up 192 carries for 861 yards and four touchdowns and 28 catches (on 40 targets) for 143 yards. Moving forward, Indianapolis will turn to the backfield duo of Zack Moss and Deon Jackson to continue churning out production on the ground.
Dec 20, 2022
Heading to IR
The Colts are expected to place Taylor (ankle) on injured reserve Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor's placement on IR will officially rule him out for the remainder of the 2022 campaign, after he suffered a right high-ankle sprain during Saturday's narrow loss to the Vikings. In a corresponding move, Indianapolis is promoting Jordan Wilkins to the 53-man roster, where he joins a backfield corps including Zack Moss and Deon Jackson. Across 11 appearances this season, Taylor carried the ball 192 times for 861 yards and four scores (4.5 YPC), and he secured 28 of 40 yargets for another 143 receiving yards.
Dec 19, 2022
May be done for season
Taylor was diagnosed with right high-ankle sprain after exiting Saturday's 39-36 overtime loss to the Vikings and is considered highly unlikely to play again this season, sources tell Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Taylor is scheduled to meet with doctors over the next day or two before Indianapolis decides on his status for the final three regular-season games, but with the 4-9-1 Colts on the cusp of being eliminated from the playoffs, there's little incentive to expose the franchise running back to further injury. Assuming Taylor is sidelined for the next three weeks, he'll finish the 2022 campaign with 861 rushing yards and four scores on the ground to go with 28 receptions for 143 yards on 40 targets over his 11 appearances. The Colts appear set to proceed with Zack Moss as their top early down back and Deon Jackson as their top change-of-pace option out of the backfield the rest of the way.
Dec 17, 2022
Sprains ankle, return up in air
Taylor has been diagnosed with a sprained ankle following Sunday's 39-36 overtime loss at Minnesota, and while the injury isn't considered to be a major one, it's unclear whether or not he'll be able to suit up for any of the Colts' final three games of the season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor made an early exit from Week 15 action with a right ankle injury that didn't allow him to return and contained him to one catch (on one target) for 13 yards. In his place, Zack Moss racked up 24 carries for 81 yards, and Deon Jackson notched 13 rushes for 55 yards and caught his only target for a one-yard score. Assuming Taylor sits out at least a Week 16 matchup with the Chargers on Monday, Dec. 26, the duo of Moss and Jackson are poised for bigger workloads in the short term and potentially in both Weeks 17 and 18 as well.
Dec 17, 2022
Won't return Saturday
Taylor (ankle) won't return to Saturday's game against the Vikings, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
With Taylor sidelined for the rest of the contest, Deon Jackson and Zack Moss are now slated to handle the Colts' backfield touches versus Minnesota. Taylor will now target a potential return to action when Indianapolis faces the Chargers in Week 16, a week from Monday.
Dec 17, 2022
Exits Saturday's game
Taylor was forced out of Saturday's game against the Vikings with a right ankle injury, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit, Taylor caught one pass for 13 yards. In his absence, Zack Moss and Deon Jackson are next up for the Colts' backfield touches.
Dec 5, 2022
Combines for 103 yards on SNF
Taylor gained 82 yards on 21 carries and caught three of four targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 54-19 loss to Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was unable to extend his touchdown streak to four games, but he still put up a solid fantasy line in spite of a negative game script. He may have been afforded more scoring opportunities had Matt Ryan and Indy's dismal passing attack not turned the ball over five times. Last year's rushing leader has produced a 192/861/4 line through 10 games; a far cry from the monster totals we witnessed from him in 2021, but still good enough to warrant RB1 status. Taylor and the Colts have the upcoming bye week to help recuperate from this shellacking before resuming play against the Vikings on Dec. 18.
Nov 28, 2022
Finds end zone in Week 12 loss
Taylor rushed 20 times for 86 yards and a touchdown while catching three of four targets for 12 yards in Monday's 24-17 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Taylor had nearly as many rushing yards on six first-half carries (34) as Matt Ryan had passing yards on 13 attempts (36), and Taylor was responsible for 11 of those yards as well. The Colts went into the locker room trailing 16-3, but an 89-yard kickoff return to open the third quarter put them in scoring position, and Taylor capitalized with a two-yard touchdown. Later in the third, Ryan and Taylor botched a handoff on Pittsburgh's one-yard line, leading to a Ryan fumble recovered by the Steelers. That play turned out to be a big one in a game that the Colts ultimately lost by a touchdown. Up next for Taylor and the Colts is a Week 13 trip to Dallas.
Nov 20, 2022
Sluggish but finds end zone
Taylor ran for 84 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries against Philadelphia on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor added three catches for 10 yards on four targets but also lost a crucial fumble in the 17-16 loss. It initially looked like Taylor would run wild in this game, but after a strong opening drive the Eagles mostly shut him down from that point. The Eagles doubtlessly paid extra attention to the run -- something they could do with impunity since Darius Slay and James Bradberry are so good at corner -- so Taylor was more imposing than the box score might imply at a glance. Hopefully he'll find more room to run against Pittsburgh in Week 12.
Nov 13, 2022
Erupts in Week 10 win
Taylor carried the ball 22 times for 147 yards and a touchdown and caught both his targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 25-20 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
After dealing with injuries that cost him three games over the prior five weeks and otherwise limited his production, Taylor appeared to be 100 percent healthy as he topped 100 rushing yards and got into the end zone for the first time since Week 1. Having Matt Ryan under center instead of Sam Ehlinger likely helped keep the Las Vegas defense from stacking the box against the run, but the entire Indy offense will face a much tougher opponent in Week 11 when the Eagles come to town.
Nov 11, 2022
Suiting up Week 10
Taylor (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Raiders after practicing as a full participant Thursday and Friday.
ANALYSIS
A sprained ankle and a subsequent aggravation have kept Taylor from playing in three of the Colts' last five games, but his ability to practice fully on consecutive days to close out Week 10 prep appears to put him in a good spot on the health front as Sunday's contest approaches. Taylor should reclaim his usual role as the Colts' lead back in his return to the lineup, and the team may not have the luxury of easing him back in with a lighter workload while top backup Deon Jackson (knee) is out for the contest. The Colts have the newly acquired Zack Moss on hand and could bring up another running back from the practice squad to provide additional depth at the position, but expect Taylor to dominate the snaps and touches Sunday.
Nov 10, 2022
Practices fully Thursday
Taylor (ankle) returned to a full practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After being limited Wednesday, Taylor logged a full session Thursday, which sets the stage for the running back to return to action Sunday against the Raiders after being inactive in Week 9. With Nyheim Hines now with the Bills, who will handle backup RB duties this weekend remains up in the air, given that Deon Jackson (knee) has missed two straight practices. With that in mind, Zack Moss could make his debut with the Colts this weekend, while Jake Funk and Jordan Wilkins are potential practice squad elevations.

Returns to limited practice
Taylor (ankle) was officially listed as limited at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was deemed a non-participant at practice last week before being ruled out for Sunday's loss to the Patriots, but his return to a limited session Wednesday suggests that the running back is trending in the right direction ahead of this weekend's game against the Raiders. Meanwhile, Deon Jackson -- who started in place of Taylor in Week 9 -- sat out the Colts' first practice of the week due to a knee issue.
Nov 9, 2022
At practice Wednesday
Taylor (ankle) was present for Wednesday's practice, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor didn't practice last week before being ruled out for Sunday's loss to the Patriots, but his presence at Wednesday's session is a positive indicator ahead of this weekend's contest versus the Raiders. The Colts' upcoming injury report will clarify the running back's participation level, in any case.
Nov 4, 2022
Won't play Sunday
Taylor (ankle) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
With Taylor unavailable, look for Deon Jackson to see an expanded workload Sunday, while Zack Moss could also mix in along with Phillip Lindsay, who is likely to be elevated from the Colts' practice squad, per James Boyd of The Athletic. Also currently on the team's practice squad are D'Vonte Price and Jordan Wilkins. Taylor will thus target a potential return to action in Week 10, when Indianapolis faces the Raiders.
Nov 4, 2022
Not spotted at Friday's practice
Taylor (ankle) is not present for the start of Friday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor appears to be missing his third straight practice of the week, which doesn't bode well for his availability heading into a Sunday matchup on the road against New England. If Friday's official injury report rules Taylor out for Week 9, or even if he manages to suit up while limited, Deon Jackson and Zack Moss will stand to lead Indianapolis' backfield. Phillip Lindsay and Jordan Wilkins would also be candidates to come up from the practice squad.
Nov 3, 2022
Still not practicing
Taylor (ankle) wasn't present for Thursday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor also didn't practice Wednesday, which clouds his status for Sunday's game against the Patriots. In his absence from Thursday's session, Deon Jackson and Zack Moss were present for practice along with practice squad members Phillip Lindsay and Jordan Wilkins.
Nov 2, 2022
Sitting out practice Wednesday
Taylor (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Bowen relays that the running back tweaked his ankle in this past Sunday's loss to the Commanders and isn't 100 percent as this weekend's game against the Patriots approaches. If Taylor ends up sitting out or is limited in the contest, Deon Jackson and the newly acquired Zack Moss would be next up for touches out of the Indianapolis backfield after Nyheim Hines was dealt to the Bills on Tuesday.
Oct 30, 2022
Returns after injury scare
Taylor carried the ball 16 times for 76 yards in Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was briefly sidelined early in the game by an ankle injury, though he returned to the field to dominate work out of the Colts' backfield. He was held in check for the vast majority of the game, though he did manage a 27-yard rush late in the first quarter to set up the team's first score of the game. Though Taylor appears to have avoided serious injury, Nyheim Hines was used at the goal line early in the fourth quarter -- perhaps an indication that Taylor was not at full strength. His practice status will be worth monitoring heading into a Week 9 matchup against the Patriots.
Oct 23, 2022
Totals 85 yards in return
Taylor recorded 10 rushes for 58 yards in Sunday's 19-10 Week 7 loss to the Colts. He added seven receptions on eight targets for 27 yards.
ANALYSIS
Taylor returned from a two-game absence to tally 85 total yards. While his rushing volume was limited by game script, Taylor still accounted for 10 of the team's 16 rushing attempts by running backs. He was able to make up some of his lost volume through the air, tallying a season-best in targets, receptions and yards. While Taylor appeared to be relatively healthy, there may be some concern about his ability to produce moving forward given the poor state of the Indianapolis offense.
Oct 21, 2022
Cleared to play Sunday
Taylor (ankle) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Titans.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to both Nyheim Hines (concussion) and Deon Jackson (quadriceps), so the Colts will have their top three backs available for Week 7 action. After being limited at practice Wednesday, Taylor logged full sessions Thursday and Friday and now is slated to reclaim his starting role Sunday following a two-game absence, per Zak Keefer of The Athletic.
Oct 21, 2022
Trending toward return Sunday
Coach Frank Reich anticipates that Taylor (ankle) will be able to play Sunday against the Titans,Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, Nyheim Hines has cleared the NFL's concussion protocol, so it looks like the Colts will have their top three backs (Taylor, Hines and Deon Jackson (quadriceps) available for Sunday's contest. Taylor was listed as a full practice participant Thursday, though Friday's final injury report will reveal whether he heads into the weekend carrying a Week 7 injury designation.
Oct 20, 2022
Returns to full practice
Taylor (ankle) was listed as a full practice participant Thursday.
ANALYSIS
With that, Taylor appears to be trending toward a return to action Sunday against the Titans, barring any setbacks. That said it's still worth circling back on his status Friday to verify whether the running back heads into the weekend with a Week 7 injury designation or fully cleared to play this weekend.
Oct 20, 2022
Making progress
Taylor (ankle) indicated that he "felt good" after logging a limited practice Wednesday, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who practiced in a limited fashion Thursday and Friday last week, acknowledged that at that stage he "just wasn't moving right." Following Wednesday's session, the running back appears to be trending in the right direction, but Taylor will likely need to practice fully by Friday in order to avoid a Week 7 injury designation.
Oct 19, 2022
Logs limited practice
Taylor (ankle) was limited at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, Nyheim Hines (concussion) practiced fully and Deon Jackson (quadriceps) was also limited. With that in mind, all three backs have a chance to be available for Sunday's game against the Titans, though in order for Taylor to approach that contest minus a Week 7 injury designation, he'll presumably need to practice fully by the end of the week.
Oct 19, 2022
Practicing Wednesday
Taylor (ankle) was spotted at practice Wednesday, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to both Nyheim Hines (concussion) and Deon Jackson (quad), which suggests that all three could potentially be available this weekend against the Titans. Wednesday's upcoming injury report will reveal the trio's official participation level. Taylor logged limited practices Thursday and Friday last week before missing his second straight game this past Sunday against the Jaguars.
Oct 15, 2022
Will not play Sunday
Taylor (ankle) has been downgraded to out ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Despite practicing in limited fashion both Thursday and Friday, the star running back evidently wasn't able to recover enough to suit up in Sunday's contest. Nyheim Hines was also downgraded to out due to his Week 5 concussion meaning Deon Jackson is likely set to start Sunday with a combination of Phillip Lindsay and D'Vonte Price also chipping in.
Oct 14, 2022
Questionable for Week 6
Taylor (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars after practicing in a limited fashion both Thursday and Friday.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out the Colts' Week 5 win over the Broncos with the sprained right ankle, Taylor took some steps forward in his recovery from the injury by getting back on the field Thursday and Friday. Colts head coach Frank Reich hasn't yet indicated whether the limited participation will be enough for Taylor to gain clearance for Sunday's contest, but additional reports on the running back's status should trickle before Indianapolis has to release its Week 6 inactive list 90 minutes prior to the 1 p.m. ET kickoff. Top backup Nyheim Hines is also listed as questionable after exiting early in the Week 5 win with a concussion, but he practiced fully Friday and has just one more step to clear in the NFL's protocol for head injuries in order to play Sunday, according to Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis. Deon Jackson is the lone healthy back on the 53-man roster at the moment, but the Colts will likely promote another back from the practice squad no later than Saturday if the team is truly concerned about
Oct 13, 2022
Returns to limited practice
Taylor (ankle) was officially limited at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After being listed as a non-participant Wednesday, Taylor progressed to a limited session Thursday, which has him trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars. However, in order to head into the weekend minus a Week 6 injury designation, Taylor -- who was inactive in Week 5 -- will likely have to log a full practice Friday.
Oct 13, 2022
Back at practice
Taylor (ankle) returned to practice Thursday, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's practice, but his presence on the field Thursday bodes well for the running back's chances of returning to action Sunday against the Jaguars. The Colts' upcoming injury report will clarify Taylor's official level of participation.
Oct 12, 2022
Held out of practice
Taylor (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor jogged on the side but didn't actually participate in practice. Meanwhile, fellow running back Nyheim Hines (concussion) was a limited participant, donning a no-contact jersey to start the week. Hines was injured on the opening drive of last Thursday's win over Denver, leaving only Deon Jackson and Phillip Lindsay in the backfield with Taylor inactive due to his ankle injury. Taylor has two more chances to practice before the Colts host the Jaguars on Sunday.
Oct 12, 2022
Gets some light jogging in Wednesday
Taylor (ankle) did some light jogging during Wednesday's practice, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Per James Boyd of The Athletic, Taylor, who wasn't initially spotted at Wednesday's practice, was working off to the side without his helmet or pads, so the running back is trending toward an official non-participation listing once the Colts' initial Week 6 injury report is posted.
Oct 12, 2022
Not practicing Wednesday
Taylor (ankle) wasn't spotted at practice Wednesday, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, Nyheim Hines (concussion) practiced in a red (non-contact) jersey, which sets the stage for the Colts' backfield situation to need to be monitored closely ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars. If either Taylor or Hines are limited or out this weekend, added snaps would be available for Deon Jackson, while Phillip Lindsay would once again be a candidate to be elevated from the team's practice squad ahead of Week 6 action.
Oct 7, 2022
Optimism regarding Week 6 status
Following Thursday's 12-9 win over the Broncos, coach Frank Reich indicated the Colts are optimistic that Taylor (ankle) can return to action in Week 6, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With the Colts on a short week, Taylor will have some added recovery time ahead of the team's Oct. 16 game against the Jaguars. Meanwhile, Nyheim Hines is in the NFL's concussion protocol after exiting Thursday's contest early, a context that resulted in Deon Jackson and Phillip Lindsay handling the bulk of Indianapolis' rushing duties in Week 5.
Oct 5, 2022
Won't play Thursday
Taylor (ankle) has been ruled out for Thursday night's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
With Taylor out for Thursday's contest, Nyheim Hines is in line for added touches with Deon Jackson in reserve, while Phillip Lindsay represents a possible practice squad elevation who could also factor into the Colts' Week 5 backfield mix. Taylor's next chance to suit up for game action will arrive in Week 6, when Indianapolis hosts Jacksonville.
Oct 4, 2022
Listed as non-participant Tuesday
Taylor (ankle) was officially listed as a non-participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
For the second day in a row, the Colts didn't hold a formal practice session, but Taylor's right ankle remained bothersome enough to confine him to the sideline for Tuesday's walk-through workout. Even though Taylor hasn't taken any on-field reps and was spotted in a walking boot Tuesday, the 23-year-old still has a chance at being available for Thursday's game against the Broncos. According to Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus, the right ankle injury Taylor suffered in last Sunday's loss to the Titans is considered mild, which could result in the running back's status for Week 5 being a game-time decision. Per Boyd, Taylor also acknowledged Tuesday that he's still dealing with a bout of turf toe that kept him on the injury report last week, though Taylor wouldn't say whether the toe issue is to the same foot as the ankle sprain. In any case, Taylor's injured toe is seemingly a far lesser concern than his ankle sprain at this juncture.
Oct 4, 2022
Not practicing Tuesday
Taylor was seated off the side as a non-participant during Tuesday's practice and was spotted with a walking boot on his injured right ankle, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Taylor will be listed as a non-participant on the practice report for the second day in a row after injuring his ankle in Sunday's loss to the Titans, the Colts aren't yet counting the running back out from playing Week 5 against the Broncos in a Thursday night game. According to Zak Keefer of The Athletic, head coach Frank Reich noted earlier that Taylor is at no risk of further injury if he plays through the ankle sprain, but the 23-year-old will likely be operating at well below 100 percent if he's able to gut it out. Additionally, Taylor could have more limitations with his workload than usual if he's cleared to play, rendering him less of a surefire must-start fantasy option in such a scenario. The Colts will see if Taylor is able to show any meaningful improvement in his recovery from the ankle injury Wednesday before giving him a designation for Thursday's game.
Oct 4, 2022
Not yet ready to play
Colts head coach Frank Reich said that Taylor's (ankle) status for Thursday's game against the Broncos is "unknown at this point," though Reich admitted the running back wouldn't be "ready to go right now" if the game was scheduled for Tuesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was listed as a non-participant on the Colts' estimated Week 5 practice report that was released Monday, and Reich's comments suggest the running back likely won't be on the field in any capacity Tuesday while he manages what's believed to be a sprained right ankle. The Colts haven't revealed whether Taylor's sprain is of the low-, medium- or high-grade variety, but the fact that all tests on the ankle have thus far returned negative suggests that a long-term absence isn't in play for the star back. Even so, Taylor looks like he might have a tough time gaining clearance to play on a short week, and if he's forced to miss his first career game Thursday, Nyheim Hines and Deon Jackson would likely be in store for expanded roles out of the backfield. Phillip Lindsay also resides on the practice squad and would be a candidate for an elevation to the roster Week 5 to provide further depth at the position.
Oct 3, 2022
Non-participant on practice estimate
Taylor (ankle) was listed as a non-participant on Monday's practice estimate.
ANALYSIS
Taylor injured his ankle in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Titans, but Stephen Holder of ESPN suggests that the star running back has a chance to play Thursday night against the Broncos, after tests on his ankle came up negative. If however, Taylor ends up out or limited against Denver, Nyheim Hines would be in line for added touches, with Deon Jackson in reserve while Phillip Lindsay is a possible practice squad elevation who could factor in as well.
Oct 3, 2022
Not ruled out for TNF
Taylor (ankle) has a chance to suit up for Thursday's game against the Broncos, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Initial tests on Taylor's ankle injury returned negative, and while the Colts will continue to monitor the star running back, it appears that he has a chance to play Week 5 if all goes well. More details about Taylor's status will be made available with Indianapolis' first injury report of the week, but if he ends up even limited in any capacity Thursday, Nyheim Hines and Deon Jackson will be in position for increased work out of the backfield.
Oct 2, 2022
Possible high ankle sprain
The Colts fear that Taylor may have suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Titans, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network relays that the running back "will have tests imminently" to asses his ankle injury. When asked Sunday about his availability for Thursday night's game against Denver, Taylor noted "I'm not sure yet. We'll see how things happen tomorrow morning." If Taylor is out or limited in Week 5, Nyheim Hines and Deon Jackson could see added backfield work versus the Broncos, while Phillip Lindsay and D'vonte Price are candidates to be elevated from the Colts' practice squad.
Oct 2, 2022
Hurts ankle Sunday
Taylor was forced out of Sunday's game against the Titans with an ankle injury, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to exiting the contest, Taylor logged 20 carries for 42 yards caught one pass for one yard. With the Colts playing again Thursday against the Broncos, Taylor's status will be worth monitoring closely in the coming days. Next up for the team's carries if Taylor is limited or out in Week 5 are Nyheim Hines and Deon Jackson.
Sep 29, 2022
Practices fully Thursday
Taylor (toe) returned to a full practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After Taylor sat out Wednesday's session, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network suggested that the running back's absence was precautionary. With his return to a full practice Thursday, Taylor is now slated to continue to lead the Colts' backfield Sunday against the Titans. Three games into the season, he's logged a total of 61 carries and 13 targets, while Indy's change-of-pace back Nyheim Hines has recorded seven carries and 17 targets in that span.
Sep 29, 2022
Back at practice
Taylor (toe) was on the field for Thursday's practice, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out Wednesday's session, Taylor's return to the field Thursday is encouraging, though the extent of his involvement won't be known until the Colts release their second injury report of the week later in the day. For what it's worth, Nate Atkins of The Indianapolis Star relays that Taylor was donning full pads Thursday. In order to approach Sunday's game against the Titans minus an injury designation, Taylor presumably will need to log a full practice by Friday.
Sep 28, 2022
Sits out practice Wednesday
Taylor (toe) didn't practice Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Pelissero notes that it's his understanding Taylor's absence is precautionary after the running back came out of Week 3 action with some soreness in his toe. As for Taylor's status for this Sunday's game against the Titans, Pelissero's source suggests that the Colts' franchise back will be "ready to roll."
Sep 25, 2022
Workhorse role in Week 3 win
Taylor carried 21 times for 71 yards and brought in three of five targets for 20 yards in the Colts' 20-17 win over the Chiefs on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was frequently stymied by a tough Chiefs front, with his longest run of the day going for a modest 13 yards. Taylor's involvement in the passing game was a nice bonus, however, and the star back now has 13 targets through three games. The 2020 second-round pick now has two straight sub-100-yard games, but he looks as explosive as last season and draws a very favorable statistical matchup against the Titans' suspect run defense in a Week 4 home divisional clash.
Sep 18, 2022
Limited volume in blowout loss
Taylor carried the ball nine times for 54 yards in Sunday's 24-0 loss to the Jaguars. He added one reception for nine yards.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was scripted out of making an impact in the loss, as the Colts ran only 48 offensive plays and Matt Ryan took to the air 30 times. Even with the limited opportunity, Taylor made a pair of splash gains, tallying two rushes of 21 yards. While Taylor was able to overcome the poor offensive environment around him in Week 1, the Colts have been lackluster with Matt Ryan at the helm early on, which could ultimately cost Taylor opportunity moving forward.
Sep 11, 2022
Tramples Texans again Sunday
Taylor rushed 31 times for 161 yards and a touchdown and brought in four of seven targets for 14 yards in the Colts' 20-20 tie with the Texans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
It's difficult to believe the Colts didn't prevail in a game during which Taylor furnished such a spectacular stat line, as the Pro Bowl running back seemingly did everything within his power to facilitate a victory. The spectacular rushing numbers are par for the course for Taylor against the Texans, which he victimized for 288 yards and four touchdowns in two games last season. The mammoth yardage total was complemented by a two-yard fourth-quarter touchdown that began the Colts' comeback, and Taylor will now take on the challenging task of mounting a successful encore to the season-opening breakout in a Week 2 road matchup against the Jaguars next Sunday.
Aug 25, 2022
Getting ready for Week 1
Taylor and fellow running back Nyhiem Hines will sit out the team's final preseason game to rest and prepare for Week 1 at Houston, Joel Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
While neither Taylor nor Hines has missed an NFL game due to injury, coach Frank Reich is wise to hold them out given the high injury rate among RBs in general. Reich made at least two comments this summer suggesting Hines will be more involved in the passing game than he was last year, but that's about the only negative for Taylor, who caught 36 passes as a rookie and 40 last season. He'll still get some targets and dominate carries while running behind a top offensive line, and QB Matt Ryan figures to be at least a slight upgrade on Carson Wentz. Both Taylor and Ryan get nice matchups to start the season, facing a Houston defense that looks average or worse at every position group.
Aug 14, 2022
Preseason action unlikely
Taylor, who didn't play in Saturday's preseason loss to the Bills, is unlikely to see game action in the Colts' remaining two exhibition contests according to coach Frank Reich, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
"That's really what Chris (Ballard) and I talked about," Reich noted of the likelihood that the Colts would play it safe in the preseason with their franchise back. "I can't see that changing for any reason. So, he's looked good, he's in shape, I feel like we're getting good work in practice versus our defense." With Taylor entrenched as Indy's lead back and Nyheim Hines in line to serve as the squad's primary change-of-pace option, depth slotting behind them is up for grabs, leaving Phillip Lindsay, Ty'Son Williams, Deon Jackson, D'Vonte Price and CJ Verdell currently competing for roster spots ahead of Week 1.
Aug 11, 2022
Not likely to play Saturday
Taylor isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bills, George Bremer of The Anderson Herald Bulletin reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that starting QB Matt Ryan is expected to play about one quarter in the contest. However, coming off a huge 2021 campaign Taylor doesn't have anything to prove in the preseason and the Colts seem likely to play it safe with their star back this weekend and quite possibly in their next two exhibition outings as well.
Jul 25, 2022
Set to reprise lead role
As training camp approaches, Taylor continues to head an Indianapolis backfield that also includes returnee Nyheim Hines and newcomer Phillip Lindsay, Kevin Hickey of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor is thus set to reprise his lead role this coming season, one that yielded a league-high 1,811 rushing yards to go along with 18 TDs on 322 carries in 17 games in 2021. The 23-year-old also chipped in 40 catches on 51 targets for 360 yards and two more scores in an effort that has his name currently atop most 2022 fantasy draft boards. While Taylor is the team's clear-cut top early-down option and in the process is poised to maintain elite fantasy status, Hines will continue to provide a pass-catching/change-of-pace presence out of the Colts' backfield, with Lindsay the favorite to secure the team's No. 3 RB role, now that Marlon Mack is no longer in the mix. Also vying for depth chart slotting will be Deon Jackson, Ty'Son Williams, D'Vonte Price and CJ Verdell.
Jan 9, 2022
Season ends on sour note
Taylor recorded 15 rushes for 77 yards in Sunday's 26-11 loss to the Jaguars. He added three receptions on four targets for 18 yards.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Taylor worked efficiently against Jacksonville's defense, an effort that was aided by runs of 23 and 13 yards. However, he was stuffed on fourth down multiple times, including once at the goal line at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Taylor also had game script working against him, with the Colts unexpectedly working from behind after the opening possession. The result was his lowest carry total since Week 6, and the first time he hasn't attempted at least 20 rushes in his last four contests. Despite the disappointing close to the campaign on both an individual and team level, Taylor racked up 2,171 total yards from scrimmage with 20 trips to the end zone across 17 games.
Jan 2, 2022
Tops 100 yards, scores
Taylor recorded 20 rushes for 108 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Raiders. He added one reception for six yards.
ANALYSIS
Taylor turned in a middling performance by his lofty standards, yet he still managed his 11th game of the season with more than 100 rushing yards. He ripped off several big gains to get to that mark, including rushes of 24 and 14 yards. Taylor also scored his 20th touchdown of the season on a one-yard plunge with only one second remaining in the first half. He'll close out the 2022 regular season with a matchup against Jacksonville, which sets him up for another very productive performance.
Dec 25, 2021
Logs another 100-yard effort
Taylor rushed 27 times for 108 yards and didn't haul in either of his targets during Saturday's 22-16 win at Arizona.
ANALYSIS
The Cardinals did a decent job of bottling up Taylor outside of a 43-yard run on the Colts' first snap from scrimmage. That long play aside, he managed just 2.5 yards on his remaining carries, but he still reached the 100-yard milestone on the ground for the ninth occasion this season. Indianapolis has happened to log a victory each time Taylor has done just that, which clearly is their recipe for success. He'll aim to keep the momentum Sunday, Jan. 2 against a Raiders run defense that ranks 25th in the NFL (122.7 yards per game).
Dec 19, 2021
Extends TD streak to 11 games
Taylor carried the ball 29 times for 170 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 27-17 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
The Colts held a 17-0 lead at halftime thanks to a special-teams TD and a bit of trickery to Nyheim Hines, but Taylor was still able to grind his way to another 100-yard performance while the team killed the clock in the second half -- until he erupted for a 67-yard touchdown run with two minutes left in the game, squashing any hope New England might have had of a comeback. Taylor has 19 TDs on the season, leaving him one short of the Colts' franchise record of 20 set by Lenny Moore in 1964, and his 11 consecutive games with a rushing TD ties the single-season NFL record held by LaDainian Tomlinson and John Riggins, although Tomlinson's overall record of 14 straight games across two seasons remains a little further down the road. Taylor will look to keep tracking down history in Week 16 against the Cardinals.
Dec 5, 2021
Another big performance
Taylor rushed 32 times for 143 yards and two touchdowns but lost a fumble in Sunday's 31-0 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Taylor scored on Indianapolis' opening drive in both halves, finding pay dirt from one and three yards out. Despite coughing the ball up, the tailback largely took full advantage of a favorable matchup, tying his season high in carries as the Colts sealed a blowout victory. Although he wasn't targeted for the first time this term, Taylor put together his seventh outing with at least 100 rushing yards, topping 140 for the fourth time. With a touchdown in 10 straight games, Taylor will strive to keep his streak going in difficult matchups against the Patriots and Cardinals once the Colts return from their bye.
Nov 28, 2021
Solid performance in tough matchup
Taylor rushed 16 times for 83 yards and a touchdown and brought in four of five targets for 14 yards in the Colts' 38-31 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The Colts went with a pass-heavy approach for a good portion of the game against the Buccaneers' extremely tough run defense, but coach Frank Reich finally unleashed Taylor on the Colts' game-tying drive in the fourth quarter. The second-year back carried the ball eight times on the 10-play march, recording 58 yards, including a four-yard rushing touchdown. Taylor also continued to enjoy a steady role in the passing game, albeit in not too efficient a fashion in terms of yardage Sunday. Taylor will naturally remain a top play in all formats during a Week 13 home divisional matchup that presents a much more palatable caliber of competition in the form of the Texans.
Nov 21, 2021
Five total TDs in upset win
Taylor rushed 32 times for 185 yards and four touchdowns and brought in all three targets for 19 yards and another score in the Colts' 41-15 win over the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Much like in Week 10 against the Jaguars, Taylor got off to a fast start by capping off the Colts' first drive with a three-yard touchdown run, but this time around, he was able to keep up his stellar production for all four quarters despite the extremely difficult matchup. Taylor finished off Indianapolis' next possession with another score, a nifty 23-yard catch and run that saw him deftly elude multiple defenders, and he went on to notch additional rushing touchdowns of two, 10 and one yard. Taylor became the first back this season to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark on the ground, and both his carry and rushing yardage totals were season highs. The MVP candidate will take what is now an eight-game touchdown streak into a Week 12 home matchup against a Buccaneers squad that, on paper, boasts an even tougher run defense than Buffalo's.
Nov 14, 2021
Another 100-yard effort in win
Taylor rushed 21 times for 116 yards and a touchdown and secured six of eight targets for 10 yards in the Colts' 23-17 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Early on, Taylor appeared to be on his way to another prolific day against a Jaguars squad he gained 275 yards against in two games last season. Taylor was featured heavily during a game-opening 10-play, 63-yard drive that culminated in a Michael Badgley field goal, and he did ultimately top 20 carries for the first time all season. However, the Jaguars defense was able to tighten up its work against the run to an extent as the game went on, yet not enough to prevent Taylor from recording his fifth 100-yard effort of the season, all which have come in the last seven contests. Taylor's quest to eclipse the century mark for the third straight time is likely to be an uphill battle in a Week 11 road matchup against the Bills.

Rips off long TD in win
Taylor rushed 19 times for 172 yards and two touchdowns and secured both targets for 28 yards in the Colts' 45-30 win over the Jets on Thursday night. He also fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
Taylor snapped a 7-7 tie with an impressive 21-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, but he provided the splash play of the night with a 78-yard rumble down the right sideline in the latter portion of the third quarter in which he flashed his elite speed. The second-year back has now eclipsed the 100-yard mark in three of his last four games, and Thursday's pair of scores brought his touchdown tally over the last six games to eight. Taylor also continues to enjoy a steady role in the passing game -- he's recorded multiple grabs on five occasions over that span -- and could be poised for another big performance in a Week 10 divisional matchup against the vulnerable Jaguars a week from Sunday.
Oct 31, 2021
Strong all-around showing in loss
Taylor rushed 16 times for 70 yards and a touchdown and secured three of four targets for 52 yards in the Colts' 34-31 overtime loss to the Titans on Sunday. He also fell on a Carson Wentz fumble.
ANALYSIS
Taylor once again saw his carries capped firmly under 20, but he was efficient with his opportunities and topped off his overall production with a game-tying one-yard touchdown run with 22 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. Taylor's receiving yardage tally was his second highest of the season, and he's now encouragingly supplemented his strong production on the ground with a quartet of three-catch totals in the last four games. Taylor will next look to exploit a vulnerable Jets defense in a Week 9 Thursday night home date.
Oct 28, 2021
Returns to full practice
Taylor (ribs) practiced fully Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was limited Wednesday, but he'll be a go Sunday against the Titans, who've allowed an average of 103.3 rushing yards per game to date. In the process, Indy's surging lead back will look to extend his scoring streak to five games and log his third straight 100-plus rushing yard effort.
Oct 27, 2021
Dealing with rib injury
Taylor (ribs) is listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's practice report.
ANALYSIS
The Colts merely held a walkthrough but estimate that Taylor would've been limited had they actually practiced. He may have gotten a bit banged up during a busy second half in Sunday's 30-18 win over San Francisco, but the Colts' lead back should be ready for a key divisional matchup with Tennessee in Week 8.
Oct 24, 2021
Strong showing in road victory
Taylor rushed 18 times for 107 yards and a touchdown while catching all three targets for three yards in Sunday's 30-18 win over San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Taylor did lose his first fumble through seven games this year, but all players were dealing with slippery conditions in Santa Clara this evening (seven total fumbles, four lost). The 22-year-old extended his touchdown streak to four games, and has now accounted for six scores and 551 total yards from scrimmage over the last four weeks. While Taylor is undoubtedly trending in the right direction, his streak of soft matchups comes to a close in Week 8 when the Colts take on the Titans, who limited the back to 72 total yards and no scores back in Week 3.
Oct 17, 2021
Two TDs against Texans
Taylor rushed 14 times for 145 yards and two touchdowns while catching one of two targets for 13 yards in Sunday's 31-3 win over Houston.
ANALYSIS
Taylor powered in a four-yard touchdown in the third quarter to cap a drive that he started with an 83-yard run, then scored again from 11 yards out in the fourth. He has now topped 100 scrimmage yards in each of his last three games, with at least one touchdown in each of those contests to boot. Taylor should continue to handle most of the touches in the Colts' backfield against the 49ers in Week 7.
Oct 3, 2021
Eclipses century mark in win
Taylor (knee) rushed 16 times for 103 yards and a touchdown and brought in all three targets for 11 yards in the Colts' 27-17 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor overcame his questionable designation to generate his best fantasy effort of the young season, highlighting his day with a 38-yard run and a 23-yard scoring scamper in the first quarter for the Colts' first points of the day. The matchup against the Dolphins' run defense was an exploitable one, but Taylor's fantasy managers were undoubtedly relieved to see him deliver despite yet another relatively capped workload. The second-year back will look to build on Sunday's effort in a Week 5 road battle versus the Ravens on Monday night, Oct. 11.
Oct 3, 2021
Suits up Sunday
Taylor (knee) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who was dealing what Ian Rapoport of NFL Network describes as a little fluid build-up in his knee, will give it a go Sunday, as expected. Assuming no in-game setbacks, he's in line to continue to lead Indy's rushing attack versus Miami, with change-of-pace back Nyheim Hines on hand to spell Taylor should the Colts elect to manage his reps at all. Meanwhile, Marlon Mack and Jordan Wilkins are also in the team's Week 4 backfield mix.
Oct 3, 2021
In line to play Sunday
Taylor (knee) is expected to play Sunday against the Dolphins, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Rapoport, the running back, who was limited at practice this past week, was dealing with a little fluid build-up in his knee, but should be fine for Sunday's contest. Official confirmation of Taylor's status is slated to arrive prior to the first wave of Week 4 kickoffs, with the Colts taking on Miami at 1:00 ET.
Oct 1, 2021
Listed as questionable
Taylor (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins after practicing in a limited fashion this past week.
ANALYSIS
The Colts have already ruled out five players for the contest, with Taylor one of four players listed by the team as questionable. Given that he practiced all week, albeit in a limited fashion, we suspect that he's trending toward Week 4 availability, but the running back's status should nonetheless be monitored as Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff approaches. If Taylor ends up limited or out this weekend, more touches would be available for Nyheim Hines, with Marlon Mack and/or Jordan Wilkins also candidates for added snaps.
Sep 30, 2021
Reps capped again
Taylor (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
For the second straight day, Taylor had his reps capped while he tends to the knee injury. The Indianapolis brass hasn't suggested the injury is anything that jeopardizes Taylor's availability for Sunday's game in Miami, but he may need to turn in a full practice Friday to avoid taking a designation into the weekend.
Sep 29, 2021
Limited with knee injury
Taylor (knee) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The ability to practice in any capacity suggests Taylor has a good chance to play Sunday against the Dolphins, though he may have gotten a bit banged up in the Week 3 loss to Tennessee. With Marlon Mack reportedly requesting a trade, the Colts will continue to split backfield work between Taylor and Nyheim Hines, who has 16 carries and 16 targets through three games. Taylor has 42 carries and 11 targets but still hasn't scored a touchdown.
Sep 26, 2021
Touchdown drought continues
Taylor rushed 10 times for 64 yards and caught one of three targets for eight yards in Sunday's 25-16 loss to the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Taylor's season-low tally of 11 touches actually matched that of backup Nyheim Hines, who totaled 79 yards from his workload. Although, as usual, much of Hines' production came in the passing game, he still vultured a nine-yard touchdown rush from Taylor in the second quarter. Through three games, Taylor is yet to find the end zone, so despite his improved efficiency on the ground Sunday, the tailback will strive to put it all together while helping the Colts to their first win in Week 4 versus the Dolphins.
Sep 19, 2021
Quiet day in loss
Taylor rushed 15 times for 51 yards and secured his only target for two yards in the Colts' 27-24 loss to the Rams on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor ceded a total of six carries to Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines, leaving with what is arguably a disappointing tally for the second time in as many games to open the season. The second-year pro had 17 totes in a Week 1 loss to the Seahawks as well, and his pedestrian average of 3.4 yards per carry Sunday only added to the disillusionment of Taylor's fantasy managers. Taylor will hope to garner a true lead-back workload for the first time this season when Colts visit the Titans for a Week 3 divisional matchup.
Sep 12, 2021
Compiles 116 total yards in loss
Taylor rushed 17 times for 56 yards and brought in six of seven targets for 60 yards in the Colts' 28-16 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
As his final line indicates, Taylor found running room to mostly be at a premium against a stingy Seahawks front. However, his reception tally drew even with that of backfield mate Nyheim Hines', while his receiving yardage total paced Indianapolis. Taylor's overall usage was particularly encouraging, considering Hines' relatively robust workload of nine carries was largely a byproduct of game script and Taylor was just as involved as a receiver as his teammate. Taylor and his fantasy managers will now hope for a more favorable game script in a Week 2 matchup against the Rams.
Aug 21, 2021
Not in line to play Saturday
Taylor won't see action in Saturday night's preseason game against the Vikings, per Colts' reporter Larra Overton.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to WR T.Y. Hilton and TE Jack Doyle. Taylor may also be held out of the Colts' preseason finale, so the running back may not see his next game action until Week 1 of the regular season.
Aug 15, 2021
Unlikely to play Sunday
Taylor isn't expected to play in Sunday's preseason game against the Panthers, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
There's little reason for coach Frank Reich to put the engine of the Colts offense in danger in the team's very first exhibition, especially with jockeying taking place for spots on the depth chart behind Taylor. It's unclear if veteran running back Marlon Mack will join Taylor, but with Nyheim Hines (leg) tending to an injury Indy may ride Jordan Wilkins, Benny LeMay, Deon Jackson and Darius Anderson out of the backfield Sunday.
Jun 30, 2021
Questions remain about workload
Although Taylor will be the primary running back for the Colts this year, head coach Frank Reich still plans to ride the hot hand and also base carries on matchups with Marlon Mack and Nyheim Hines in the mix, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Keefer speculates that Taylor will get 60 percent of the carries with Mack around 25 percent. Much depends on Mack's health, as he's returning from a ruptured right Achilles' tendon. And this could just be coach speak just to keep all the running backs (along with Jordan Wilkins) motivated in the offseason. However, there's a risk Taylor won't get the workload many expect after he came on strong at the end of his rookie season (He amassed 741 rushing yards and seven TDs over his last six games). Still, Taylor has huge upside if he can build upon his serviceable role in the passing game (36 receptions and 92.3% catch rate) and get more work at the goal line (he had just 54% of the team's Red Zone rushing attempts).
Jan 9, 2021
Finds end zone in playoff debut
Taylor rushed 21 times for 78 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 27-24 wild-card round loss to the Bills. He added two catches for six yards on four targets.
ANALYSIS
Taylor gave the Colts a 10-7 lead with a one-yard touchdown plunge in the second quarter but lost three yards on a dubious 3rd-and-goal toss play from the one-yard line later in the quarter on a drive that ended without points following an incomplete pass on the ensuing play. The rookie second-round pick established himself as the Colts' clear lead back down the stretch, and Taylor is positioned to finish among the league's rushing leaders next season if he can maintain that role while running behind one of the league's best offensive lines.
Jan 7, 2021
Cleared to play Saturday
Taylor (shoulder) doesn't carry an injury designation for Saturday's playoff game against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Though Taylor -- who racked up 30 carries for 253 yards and two TDs in Week 17 -- was listed as a limited practice participant this week, he previously indicated that he'd be ready to roll versus the Bills and his final injury designation for wild-card weekend confirms that.
Jan 7, 2021
Listed as questionable
Taylor (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Saturday's playoff game against the Bills after practicing in a limited fashion this week, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis relays that Taylor -- who logged 30 carries for a 253 yards and two TDs in Week 17 -- sported a red (non-contact) jersey at practice Thursday, the running back previously indicated that he'd be "ready to roll" versus the Bills. In any case, official confirmation of his status for wild-card weekend is set to arrive about 90 minutes before Saturday's 1:05 ET kickoff.
Jan 6, 2021
Listed as limited on practice estimate
Taylor (shoulder) was listed as limited on Wednesday's practice estimate.
ANALYSIS
Despite being listed as limited on the Colts' injury report, Taylor -- who logged 30 carries in Week 17 -- isn't concerned about his status for Saturday's playoff opener against the Bills, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports. "We are definitely ready to roll this Saturday," the running back noted Wednesday.
Jan 5, 2021
Listed as limited on practice estimate
Taylor (shoulder) was listed as limited on Tuesday's practice estimate.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was on the field for 55 of the Colts' 67 snaps on offense in this past Sunday's win over the Jaguars, en route to rushing 30 times for 253 yards and two TDs. Though his listed limitations Tuesday indicate that Taylor may have come out of the contest banged up, so far there's nothing to suggest that the Colts' top back is in any danger of missing Saturday's playoff opener against the Bills.
Jan 3, 2021
Explodes for career-best effort
Taylor rushed 30 times for 253 yards and two touchdowns and brought in one of two targets for one yard in the Colts' 28-14 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
As his final numbers imply, Taylor consistently terrorized the Jaguars defense, ripping off a game-long 56-yard run on his second carry of the day and subsequently notching touchdowns of one and 45 yards in the second and fourth quarter, respectively. The rookie had an uneven first nine games as a pro, but hey bounced back to finish with 74 or more rushing yards in each of his last six contests, including seven touchdowns over his last four games. Taylor also proved to be a solid receiver with a 35-298-1 line through the air, and he'll now look to carry over the significant momentum of this performance into a wild-card matchup against the Bills on the road next weekend.
Dec 27, 2020
Continues TD binge vs. Steelers
Taylor carried 18 times for 74 yards and two touchdowns while failing to bring in his lone target during Sunday's 28-24 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Taylor averaged a respectable 4.1 yards per carry against a tough defensive unit while adding a pair of short touchdown runs in the first half. He was uncharacteristically quiet as a pass-catcher, which capped his overall production, but his five touchdowns in the last three games are surely keeping fantasy managers happy. Taylor now has 11 total touchdowns on the season and will look to head into the postseason on a high note in next Sunday's inviting matchup with the Jaguars.
Dec 20, 2020
Paces backfield again
Taylor rushed 16 times for 83 yards and a touchdown in Week 15 against the Texans. He added four receptions for 12 yards as a receiver.
ANALYSIS
Taylor dominated the work out of the Colts' backfield, accounting for 16 of the 21 running back touches. He worked efficiently, tallying a long run of 14 yards and also rushed for at least five yards on eight of his attempts. Taylor opened the scoring with a five-yard touchdown plunge, his second consecutive game with a score. Also encouraging was Taylor's continued work as a receiver, as he doubled Nyheim Hines' reception total. He should maintain his status as the clear lead back in a Week 16 matchup against Pittsburgh.
Dec 13, 2020
Enjoys career game in dominant win
Taylor carried 20 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns while adding two catches (on two targets) for 15 yards during Sunday's 44-27 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Taylor gashed the beatable Las Vegas run defense for 7.5 yards per carry as he easily set a new career high in rushing yardage. His 62-yard touchdown in the third quarter was also his longest of the season and he later added a three-yard score for his first multi-touchdown game. Taylor came into this one in great form and will look to feast again next Sunday against a Texans defense that ranks near the bottom of the league in virtually every category related to stopping opposing running backs.
Dec 6, 2020
Scores with 135 scrimmage yards
Taylor carried 13 times for 91 yards and caught all three of his targets for 44 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 26-20 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Taylor gashed the porous Houston defense for 7.0 yards per carry as he delivered his best rushing output since Week 2. He also notched his third-best receiving output of the season and scored his first receiving touchdown on a 39-yard play on fourth down in the second quarter. Taylor has racked up 249 scrimmage yards on 42 touches over the last two games and will look to continue his recent success in a favorable matchup against the Raiders next Sunday.
Dec 2, 2020
Comes off COVID-19 list
Taylor has been activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who missed this past Sunday's game against the Titans, will practice Wednesday, which sets the stage for him to return to action and head Indy's backfield this weekend against the Texans, who've allowed an average of 154.7 rushing yards per game. Only Dallas (156.4) has surrendered more.
Nov 28, 2020
Placed on COVID-19 list
Taylor was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday and will not play Sunday against the Titans.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear whether Taylor himself tested positive for COVID-19 or was merely in close proximity to someone who tested positive, but regardless the designation Saturday means the rookie running back will not play in the team's important divisional matchup against the Titans on Sunday. As of now, Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins are the only two healthy running backs on the active roster, although the team could still choose to activate player's off the practice squad later in the day.
Nov 22, 2020
Delivers against Packers
Taylor rushed the ball 22 times for 90 yards in Week 11 against the Packers. He added four receptions for 24 yards.
ANALYSIS
One week after being minimized in the offense, Taylor earned his first workhorse role. He looked comfortable, keeping the offense on schedule while also ripping off some big runs of 18 and 14 yards. Encouragingly, Taylor also remained involved in the passing attack and led the backfield with four receptions. While the Packers have been a soft matchup for running backs all season, the performance may have been what Taylor needed to find his footing during an uneven rookie campaign. He'll look to build on his best performance as a pro in Week 12 against the Titans.
Nov 13, 2020
Another disappointing effort in win
Taylor rushed seven times for 12 yards and brought in both his targets for 25 yards in the Colts' 34-17 win over the Titans on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Taylor once again struggled to get anything going on the ground, and he notably checked in third in carries behind Nyheim Hines (12) and Jordan Wilkins (eight). The rookie committed a fumble that was returned for a touchdown in the Week 9 loss to the Ravens, so his continued diminished role Thursday may be partly attributable to that miscue. Taylor has now logged single-digit carries in back-to-back games for the first time as a pro, leaving his fantasy prospects mixed ahead of a Week 11 interconference matchup against the Packers on Sunday, Nov. 22.
Nov 8, 2020
Salvages day with TD
Taylor rushed six times for 27 yards and a touchdown and brought in both targets for seven yards in the Colts' 24-10 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Taylor once again played second fiddle to Jordan Wilkins in the backfield, but he was able to score from one-yard out in the first quarter to lock in a serviceable fantasy performance. Otherwise, the rookie's modest workload cast a pall over his afternoon, as his carry total was a career-low figure. Coach Frank Reich appears intent on affording Jordan Wilkins more than just a true change-of-pace workload, leaving Taylor's fantasy prospects heading into a Week 10 Thursday night battle against the Titans uncertain.
Nov 5, 2020
Puts in full workout
Taylor (ankle) was a full participant during Thursday's walk-through practice.
ANALYSIS
Though Thursday's session was of the non-contact variety, Taylor's "full" listing implies that the rookie's reps wouldn't have been restricted had the Colts held a traditional practice. As such, Taylor looks ready to go for Sunday's game against the Ravens, but discerning what his role might look like is rather difficult after he was outplayed handily by backups Jordan Wilkins and Nyheim Hines in the Week 8 win over the Lions. Taylor is still likely to start and take the Colts' first backfield reps, but game flow as well as how he fares with his initial touches may be the main determining factors in the extent of his usage on the day.
Nov 4, 2020
Logs limited practice
Taylor (ankle) was limited at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
As was Jordan Wilkins (groin), but at this stage it doesn't look like either back is in danger of missing Sunday's game against the Ravens. Perhaps the more pressing issue with regard to Taylor's Week 9 fantasy upside is that Wilkins logged 20 carries (for 89 yards and a TD) in the Colts' Week 8 win over the Lions, while Taylor ran the ball 11 times for 22 yards. Additionally, Nyheim Hines handled the bulk of the team's chance-of-pace touches, hauling in three of is five targets for 54 yards and two TDs. Ultimately, Taylor carries the highest long-term value, but Wilkins' effort versus Detroit could result in Taylor's workload being affected this weekend.
Nov 4, 2020
Will practice Wednesday
Taylor (ankle) will return to practice Wednesday, Zak Keefer of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
It remains to be seen whether Taylor practices on a full or limited basis, but between this news and Keefer describing Taylor's ankle injury as "minor", the rookie running back seems unlikely to miss Sunday's clash with the Ravens. If he shows himself to be healthy during practice this week, Taylor should take back the majority of the workload in Indianapolis' backfield after being outplayed by both Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins last week.
Nov 2, 2020
Dealing with minor ankle injury
Coach Frank Reich said Monday that Taylor has "a bit of an ankle injury" following Sunday's win over the Lions, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Perhaps this helps explain Sunday's lackluster performance, as the rookie second-round pick averaged just 2.0 yards per carry and finished with 31 total yards on 13 touches. Still, Reich explained that he learned about Taylor's injury after the game, so it appears that the decision to give Jordan Wilkins more touches (21) than Taylor was based on performance, as Wilkins was more productive with 4.5 yards per carry and a touchdown. It's worth monitoring Taylor's practice status throughout the week as the Colts prepare for a home matchup against Baltimore this Sunday.
Nov 1, 2020
Stymied in win over Lions
Taylor carried 11 times for 22 yards and caught two of three targets for an additional nine yards during Sunday's 41-21 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Taylor managed just 2.0 yards per carry against a beatable Detroit run defense and managed little with the passes sent his way as well. He received a couple of carries near the goal line but couldn't convert and watched as both Jordan Wilkins and Trey Burton capitalized on their respective opportunities, with Nyheim Hines contributing a pair of receiving scores. Fantasy managers had likely hoped Taylor came out of the bye week raring to go, but this poor performance was rather concerning given the seemingly inviting matchup and the success of the team's other options. Things will not get any easier in next Sunday's matchup with the Ravens.
Oct 18, 2020
Contributes 115 scrimmage yards
Taylor carried 12 times for 60 yards and caught all four of his targets for an additional 55 yards during Sunday's 31-27 win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Taylor averaged a healthy 5.0 yards per carry against a beatable Bengals front, but his team unexpectedly found itself in a large early hole which limited his rushing attempts. Luckily for fantasy owners, Taylor was excellent as a pass catcher and finished with more receiving yards than he had in his previous four games combined. The rookie has performed quite well when given the chance, but his output has perhaps been a bit limited by a Colts offense that hasn't lived up to expectations to this point. He'll enjoy an upcoming bye before facing a beatable Lions defense in Week 8.
Oct 11, 2020
Finds end zone in loss to Browns
Taylor carried 12 times for 57 yards and a touchdown while adding two catches (on three targets) for 17 yards during Sunday's 32-23 loss to the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Taylor managed a respectable 4.8 yards per carry against a solid Browns defense while scoring a four-yard touchdown to get his team on the board in the first quarter. Unfortunately, the running game was limited as Cleveland raced out to a big lead in the third quarter and he wasn't used much as a pass catcher. Still, it was something of an encouraging sign that Taylor managed respectable fantasy production in the face of adversity and he could bounce back in a big way in next Sunday's matchup with the Bengals.
Oct 4, 2020
Earns 17 carries
Taylor rushed the ball 17 times for 68 yards in Week 4 against Chicago. He also added one reception for 11 yards.
ANALYSIS
Taylor was once again the lead back for the Colts, working ahead of both Nyheim Hines and Jordan Wilkins. While his longest rush of the game was 16 yards, he managed several chunk gains of 11 and 12 yards. He was unable to put together a huge performance due to the Colts' inability to reach the end zone, but has now racked up at least 14 touches in each game since Week 2 in Marlon Mack's (Achilles) absence. He'll face a tough defensive front in Week 5 in a matchup against the Browns.
Sep 27, 2020
Scores TD in quiet day
Taylor carried the ball 13 times for 59 yards and a touchdown and caught his only pass for three yards in Sunday's 36-7 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Despite the lopsided final score, Taylor didn't get a lot of work down the stretch as Jordan Wilkins and Nyheim Hines got 16 carries and five receptions between them. Still, the rookie's third-quarter TD salvaged his day from a fantasy perspective. Assuming it's a more competitive contest, Taylor could be more involved, and more productive, in Week 4 against a Bears defense that just gave up 148 rushing yards and two TDs to the Atlanta backfield.
Sep 20, 2020
Finds end zone as feature back
Taylor carried 26 times for 101 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Vikings. He also caught both his targets for nine additional yards in the 28-11 win.
ANALYSIS
Taylor stepped in for the injured Marlon Mack (Achilles) and churned out 110 scrimmage yards against a respectable defense, though his average of 3.9 yards per carry was a bit lackluster. He scored his first career rushing touchdown on a five-yard carry in the second quarter and helped his team control the game after jumping out to a big lead in the second half. Taylor should see a similar workload next Sunday against the Jets and should be considered an ascending fantasy option heading into a contest Indianapolis is expected to win.
Sep 14, 2020
Confirmed as starter
With Marlon Mack having ruptured his Achilles, coach Frank Reich confirmed Monday that Taylor "will step into the starting" running back role for the Colts, Stephen Holder of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
"He's ready," Reich said of the rookie second-rounder, while adding that Nyheim Hines "will still be a big part of the offense" and that Jordan Wilkins will also be in the mix. In any case, instead of being part of a one-two punch with Mack atop the team's backfield depth chart as originally planned, Taylor is now the team's clear lead back going forward, a role that greatly boosts the Wisconsin product's fantasy value, beginning this coming weekend against the Vikings.
Sep 14, 2020
Ascends depth chart
The Colts confirmed Marlon Mack's season-ending Achilles tear Monday, putting Taylor in position for an expanded role going forward, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Rather than beginning his career in a three-headed backfield by committee, Taylor now looks to be in prime position to emerge as Indianapolis' lead ballcarrier, with Nyheim Hines also handling a change-of-pace role. Taylor logged nine carries for 22 yards during Indianapolis' loss to the Jaguars on Sunday, while also adding six catches for 67 yards. The rookie second-round pick's explosive early-down profile wasn't perfectly suited to a Week 1 tilt in which the Colts were forced to play catch-up, but he'll have a chance at a more favorable gamescript against the Vikings on Sunday.
Sep 13, 2020
Busy in receiving game
Taylor tallied nine rushes for 22 yards in the team's Week 1 contest against the Jaguars. He also added six receptions for 67 yards.
ANALYSIS
Taylor took over an expanded role with Marlon Mack's exit (Achilles), particularly as a receiver. He finished second on the team in receiving yards, as the Colts tried to play catch up against the Jaguars. While Taylor didn't accomplish much on the ground, he should have the chance to improve in terms of both volume and efficiency moving forward. He's in line to take over a lead back role in Week 2 against the Vikings.
Sep 13, 2020
Expanded role likely
With fears that Marlon Mack suffered a torn Achilles against the Jaguars on Sunday, Taylor's role in the Colts' ground game is likely to expand going forward, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor, who the Colts took in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 41st overall, had been slated to work in a time-share with Mack, while Nyheim Hines handled change-of-pace duties for the team. With Mack now likely to miss extended time, the promising Taylor's early-down profile, and in turn, his fantasy upside, now appear destined to increase.
Sep 7, 2020
Listed as No. 2 RB
Taylor is listed as the No. 2 running back on the Colts' initial unofficial depth chart. Marlon Mack is listed as the starter.
ANALYSIS
While rookie Taylor has drawn raves in training camp, head coach Frank Reich has said Mack is still viewed as the starter. Still, the Indy coaching staff has continued to say they view their backfield as a committee with both Mack and Taylor as a "one-two punch." Taylor will need to improve as a receiver to claim a larger share of the touches in the backfield, as he struggled at times with drops in college. He had mixed reports in training camp on his receiving abilities with some drops in scrimmages but also some reports of strong showings in the passing game.

Drops two passes in scrimmage
Taylor had two dropped passes in Saturday's scrimmage, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 FM The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
While Taylor has drawn raves in training camp, he'll need to improve as a receiver to claim a larger share of the touches in the backfield where he's expected to split time with Marlon Mack. Taylor had issues with drops in college, so his 4-5 drops during training camp, according to Bowen, are a cause for concern.

Not viewed as starter just yet
Coach Frank Reich still views Mack as his starting running back, but Reich did say Taylor will have an opportunity to catch the "hot hand," Andrew Walker of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
It would be unusual for an NFL coach to come out and say anything else when there's a rookie challenger to a starter with a solid track record. The unusual circumstances of 2020 do seem to work in favor of veterans like Mack, but Taylor has both draft capital (41st overall) and physical talent (225 lbs., 4.39 40) working in his favor. Expect both players to see carries early in the season, with Nyheim Hines also mixing in for passing situations. The extent of Taylor's workload may largely depend on the quality of his performance.

Viewed as 1-2 punch with Mack
Taylor and Marlon Mack are viewed as a 1-2 punch in Indy's offense, Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni told the team's official web site. "They have some different running styles, but again they're both complete backs. I think that's a fantastic problem to have, is to have two guys like that you can feed the football to. It's only going to help our running game," he said.
ANALYSIS
The Colts selected Taylor in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft even with Mack coming off his first 1,000-yard rushing season. Sirianni's comments echo head coach Frank Reich's from last week, making it clear the Colts plan to split the workload at running back. However, neither coach's comments got into specifics on how playing time will be divided.
