Keep up with the latest injuries from the Raiders vs Chargers game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 16, 2025
Pulled late in abysmal outing
Herbert completed 10 of 18 passes for 81 yards with no touchdowns and one interception while adding three rushes for 21 yards in the Chargers' 35-6 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The sixth-year pro put together a performance that was about as poor as his numbers indicated, with Herbert finishing with a career-low yardage total. Herbert was sacked just twice but appeared to be under constant duress, and he failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time all season before being pulled for Trey Lance in the fourth quarter. The Chargers will now have a Week 12 bye to regroup before returning to action in a Week 13 home matchup against the Raiders on Sunday, Nov. 30.

Manages team to victory on SNF
Herbert completed 20 of 33 pass attempts for 220 yards and a touchdown while rushing five times for 19 yards in Sunday's 25-10 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Herbert posted a traditional "game manager" type stat line, taking good care of the football while doing just enough to lift his team to victory. The loss of LT Joe Alt (ankle) to injured reserve was on full display after the Chargers' signal-caller was sacked five times on Sunday Night Football. Herbert suffered an injury on one of the first-half sacks, but he was able to stay in the game after having his ankle taped up, according to ESPN's Kris Rhim. The 27-year-old showed no mobility limitations in the second half, which should help put his managers' thoughts at ease moving forward. Herbert will benefit from facing the Jaguars' 28th-ranked pass defense next Sunday in the Chargers' last game preceding the team's Week 12 bye.

Efficient in Week 9 win
Herbert completed 19 of 29 passes for 250 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Titans. He added nine rushes for 57 yards and an additional score.
ANALYSIS
Herbert accounted for the majority of his production in the first half, racking up 186 yards on 20 attempts through two quarters. He was efficient throughout the game, completing five passes of 20 yards while also tossing for scores of 19 and two yards. While Herbert was limited as a passer in the second half due to game script, he managed to punch in his third touchdown of the contest with a one-yard rushing score early in the fourth quarter. Herbert now has multiple touchdowns in four consecutive matchups heading into a Week 10 game against Pittsburgh.
Oct 23, 2025
Three TDs in big win
Herbert completed 18 of 25 passes for 227 yards with three touchdowns and one interception while adding seven rushes for 62 yards in the Chargers' 37-10 win over the Vikings on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Herbert faced an uphill battle coming in, considering the aggressive tendencies of the Vikings' defense and makeshift nature of his offensive line. However, the sixth-year pro and his teammates performed admirably, heating up starting in the latter portion of the first quarter and clicking from that point forward. Herbert connected with Oronde Gadsden from eight yards out for the first points of the night, and he then launched a beautifully thrown 27-yard scoring strike to Ladd McConkey down the right sideline just before halftime. Herbert capped things off with a six-yard TD toss to rookie Tre' Harris early in the fourth quarter while subsequently leading Los Angeles to another pair of scoring drives that culminated in Cameron Dicker field goals. Herbert now has back-to-back three-touchdown tallies within a span of five days heading into a favorable Week 9 road matchup against the Titans on Sunday, Nov. 2.
Oct 19, 2025
Tops 400 yards in Week 7 loss
Herbert completed 37 of 55 passes for 420 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions in Sunday's 38-24 loss to the Colts. He added 31 rushing yards on six carries.
ANALYSIS
The 420 yards were a career high for Herbert, exceeding the 405 yards he racked up in 2023 during a Week 3 meeting with the Vikings, and his 37 completions were a franchise single-game record. Most of that production came in the second half Sunday, including all three of the QB's touchdowns -- strikes to Quentin Johnston and Keenan Allen in the third quarter and Oronde Gadsden in the fourth, all in the red zone -- as the Chargers tried in vain to rally from a 23-3 halftime deficit. Herbert will take a 13:6 TD:INT through seven starts into a Week 8 meeting with the 2025 edition of a Minnesota defense that just got torched by Jalen Hurts.
Oct 12, 2025
Sterling effort in win
Herbert completed 29 of his 38 pass attempts for 264 yards and two touchdowns in the 29-27 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Despite being under duress for most of the game, Herbert was excellent moving around the pocket and extending time to create enough room to hit Ladd McConkey (7-100-1) on a number of crossing routes, and Oronde Gadsden had his biggest game of his young career as an underneath safety net. The emergence of Kimani Vidal as a legitimate piece of the rushing attack, albeit against a porous run defense, could do wonders to help Herbert stable the ship with multiple offensive lineman banged up with varying injuries.
Oct 5, 2025
Hot start fading quick
Herbert completed 22 of 29 pass attempts for 166 yards, one touchdown and one interception while taking four carries for 60 yards in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Herbert did not look comfortable in the pocket without starting left tackle Joe Alt (ankle) on Sunday, finishing below 200 yards passing for the first time this season. The 27-year-old was sacked four times while throwing his fourth interception of the season, all of which have come during his current three-game skid. Things got so bad that head coach Jim Harbaugh turned to backup QB Trey Lance in garbage time of Sunday's loss. Herbert did salvage his fantasy day a bit by providing managers with a season high of 60 yards on the ground. The talented signal-caller will attempt to get his season back on track against the fledgling Dolphins next Sunday.
Sep 28, 2025
Picked off twice in loss
Herbert completed 23 of 41 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions in Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Giants. He added 24 rushing yards on his only carry and ran for a two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old quarterback committed multiple turnovers for the first time in 2025 while throwing for a season low in passing yards as the Chargers took their first loss, but Herbert did salvage his day to some extent with a 36-yard TD to Quentin Johnston late in the second quarter. Herbert still has a respectable 7:3 TD:INT through four games heading into a Week 5 tilt against a Commanders defense that just gave up career-best numbers to the Falcons' Michael Penix.
Sep 21, 2025
Stellar in win
Herbert was brilliant once again in the 23-20 win over the Broncos on Sunday completing 28 of 47 pass attempts for 300 passing yards to go along with a touchdown and an interception. He also scrambled twice for six yards.
ANALYSIS
Herbert made two absolutely stunning throws in this one, the latter connecting for a game-tying touchdown by Keenan Allen on a broken play in the fourth quarter. The sixth-year quarterback is absolutely scintillating to start 2025 and does not appear to be flustered by any matchup. Even Herbert's one lone blemish came on a dropped pass which caromed back to the waiting arms of safety Brandon Jones. Sunday's 47 pass attempts is tied for the Pro Bowler's most since 2023 and seemed to be a byproduct of the team trying to claw back during a second half that largely saw the Chargers trailing.
Sep 16, 2025
Efficient in dominate win
Herbert completed 19 of 27 attempts for 242 yards and two touchdowns in Monday's 20-9 win over the Raiders. He also led the team in rushing on nine attempts for 31 yards but fumbled once.
ANALYSIS
Herbert took what the defense gave him all evening and the Raiders never seemed to have an answer. The sixth-year quarterback efficiently marched down the field whenever Los Angeles needed a sustaining drive, and were it not for the ineptitude of Geno Smith and company on the other side, Herbert probably could have pressed further for a bigger game. It's clear the 27-year-old is looking to be more mobile in 2025 as that's now back-to-back games with 30 or more rushing yards, a feat he accomplished just four times total last season.
Sep 5, 2025
Carves up AFC Champ's defense
Herbert completed 25 of 34 pass attempts for 318 yards and three touchdowns while taking seven carries for 32 yards in Friday's 27-21 victory over Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Herbert and the Chargers' aerial attack put on a show in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Friday, generating five lengthy scoring drives in a decisive victory over last year's AFC Champions. Head coach Jim Harbaugh let his star quarterback air it out right out of the gates, resulting in Herbert's first 300-yard, three-touchdown performance since Harbaugh took over at the start of last season. If this is truly a shift in offensive philosophy from the three yards and a cloud of dust scheme we saw in 2024, then Herbert's fantasy ceiling could rise somewhere closer to the elite production we witnessed from 2020-2022. Next Monday's tilt against the Raiders should be telling on whether Herbert can keep up this type volume.
Aug 16, 2025
Leads one series
Herbert completed two of five passes for 46 yards in Saturday's 23-22 preseason loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Herbert made a brief appearance, leading one drive that went nine plays and 51 yards. Though his completion percentage left something to be desired, Herbert displayed plenty to be encouraged about, connecting early with Ladd McConkey on a short pass before hitting KeAndre Lambert-Smith for a 29-yard gain down the left sideline. Herbert may not see the field again until the regular season, but he appears ready to roll if that is the case.
Aug 14, 2025
To play a series or two Saturday
Herbert will start Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With regard to to the Chargers' approach to the contest, coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed Thursday, "we're going to play starters on Saturday." As for Herbert, who is in line to make his first-ever preseason appearance, Harbaugh said that the QB is expected to play "a series, could be two," along with the team's other offensive starters. Beyond that, Harbaugh expects both Trey Lance (hand) and Taylor Heinicke to log snaps versus the Rams.
Aug 8, 2025
Won't play Sunday
Herbert won't play in Sunday's preseason game against the Saints, NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Taylor Heinicke will get the start, after Trey Lance started the Hall of Fame Game a week earlier. It remains to be seen if Herbert will take some snaps in the Chargers' third or fourth preseason games.
Jul 29, 2025
Won't start in Hall of Fame Game
Coach Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday that "traditional" starters, such as Herbert, won't suit up for Thursday's Hall of Fame Game against the Lions, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This comes as no surprise, as the Chargers will have three more opportunities for their top talent to get in some reps before Week 1. In Herbert's place, Trey Lance will get the nod under center over presumed No. 2 QB Taylor Heinicke. As for Herbert and the rest of the starters, their next chance for exhibition action will arrive Sunday, Aug. 10 versus the Saints.
Jul 17, 2025
Sharp to begin training camp
Herbert looked in midseason form on the first day of training camp Thursday, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert's highlights Thursday included a 50-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Reagor and a sharp performance in red-zone drills. Reagor's expected to be a supporting piece in a Chargers wide receiver room that drafted rookies Tre Harris and KeAndre Lambert-Smith in the second and fifth round, respectively, while retaining Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston and Derius Davis. Harris is slated to sign his rookie contract with the Chargers after agreeing to terms with the team Thursday, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, but Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Mike Williams plans to retire from the NFL rather than play out the one-year deal he signed with the Chargers in March.
Jan 11, 2025
Throws four picks in ugly loss
Herbert completed 14 of 32 pass attempts for 242 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions with no rushing stats in Saturday's wild-card round loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Herbert picked an inopportune time to have the worst passing game of his promising career after Saturday's four-pick performance was the primary cause of the Chargers' season coming to an abrupt end. The 26-year-old is now 0-2 in two career playoff appearances, which comes on the heels of a solid regular season (3,870-23-3) in head coach Jim Harbaugh's first season with Los Angeles. Herbert and the Chargers' more-balanced offense will have to regroup for the 2025 campaign despite finishing the season well ahead of franchise expectations.
Jan 5, 2025
Rips through Raiders
Herbert completed 28 of 36 passes for 346 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 34-20 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
It took until late in the second quarter for Herbert and the Chargers to find the end zone, but he was impressive throughout the game and ultimately posted his second-highest yardage total of the season. Herbert combined plenty of volume with efficiency to post the impressive stat line, which included four completions of more than 35 yards and touchdown strikes of six and two yards. He closes the season with a modest 3,870 passing yards, but Herbert's 7.7 yards per attempt was the best mark of his career, and he also turned the ball over only five times across 17 games. Herbert is now set to lead the Chargers into a wild-card round matchup with the Texans.
Dec 28, 2024
Dominant in road victory
Herbert completed 26 of 38 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns against New England on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The Patriots were overwhelmed by Herbert and WR1 Ladd McConkey, who dropped a wide-open look on his first target of the game but lit up the Patriots for eight catches for 94 yards and two touchdowns on the next nine targets while propelling the Chargers to a 40-7 road victory. As long as McConkey gets going the Chargers usually have enough targets on hand for Herbert to get hot, but the lack of complementary pass catchers leaves a lot of pressure on McConkey from week to week, and few means of recourse whenever McConkey's production slows. The Chargers face a mostly accommodating Raiders defense in Week 18.
Dec 19, 2024
Piles up yardage against tough D
Herbert completed 23 of 31 passes for 284 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Chargers' 34-27 win over the Broncos on Thursday night. He also rushed eight times for 28 yards and threw a two-point conversion pass.
ANALYSIS
Herbert put together a mostly crisp performance that saw him generate his highest passing yardage total since Week 11. The 2020 first-round pick brought the Chargers back from an 11-point third-quarter deficit, connecting with Derius Davis (19 yards) and Hassan Haskins (34 yards) for his pair of touchdown tosses and hitting Joshua Palmer with a two-point conversion pass after the first score. Herbert's clutch second-half performance pushed the Chargers into a tie in the standings with the Broncos at 9-6, and the talented signal-caller will look to carry over the momentum into a Week 17 road battle versus the Patriots on Saturday, Dec. 28.
Dec 18, 2024
No injury designation
Herbert (ankle) doesn't have an injury designation for Thursday's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers held a walk-through practice Wednesday but estimate that Herbert would've been a full participant in a more strenuous session. He was listed with ankle and thigh injuries last week, before completing 21 of 33 passes for 195 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in a 40-17 loss to Tampa Bay. Another loss Thursday night would make the Chargers highly unlikely to be anything besides the No. 7 seed for the AFC Playoffs, while a win would keep them in the running to be fifth/sixth.
Dec 17, 2024
Limited in practice Tuesday
Herbert (ankle) was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice session.
ANALYSIS
Herbert's limited participation Tuesday followed his designation as limited in Monday's walkthrough. The star quarterback is still dealing with an ankle injury he suffered Week 14 against the Chiefs, though the issue didn't prevent him from suiting up this past Sunday in a loss to Tampa Bay. Barring a setback, Herbert seems to be in line to play against Denver on Thursday Night Football this week.
Dec 16, 2024
Estimated as limited Monday
Herbert (ankle) was listed as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report.
ANALYSIS
Herbert has been dealing with ankle and thigh issues for the last couple weeks, and he appeared to aggravate the ankle in Sunday's loss to the Bucs, though he missed just one offensive snap. The limited start to the week would suggest Herbert has a good chance to suit up Thursday night against the Broncos. If Herbert isn't cleared to play, Taylor Heinicke would likely draw in as the starter.
Dec 15, 2024
Throws first pick since September
Herbert completed 21 of 33 pass attempts for 195 yards, two touchdowns and one interception without recording a rushing attempt in Sunday's 40-17 loss to Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was limited in practice by a pair of lower-body injuries, but he did not carry an injury designation into Sunday's blowout loss. The star quarterback threw his first interception in nearly three calendar months (Week 2 at CAR) after the team adopted head coach Jim Harbaugh's mistake-free style of play. It was an overall odd game from Herbert, who also did not record an official rushing attempt for the first time this season. The Chargers will need to have a short memory following the ugly loss before hosting the 9-5 Broncos on Thursday Night Football in Week 16.
Dec 13, 2024
Ready for Week 15
Herbert (ankle/thigh) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game versus the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Herbert missed one play during this past Sunday's loss at Kansas City with what eventual was termed a thigh contusion. Coach Jim Harbaugh then revealed Wednesday that Herbert also was dealing with a left ankle injury from that game, per Daniel Popper of The Athletic. Herbert proceeded to open Week 15 prep with an absence before being limited Thursday and a full participant Friday. He'll be taking on a Tampa Bay defense Sunday that has given up the 10th-most touchdown passes (21) to opposing quarterbacks in 13 contests this season.
Dec 12, 2024
Returns to limited practice
Herbert (ankle/thigh) was limited at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After being deemed a non-participant Wednesday, the QB's return to a capped session one day later has him trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Friday's final injury report will reveal whether Herbert is given a Week 15 designation, but at this stage it would be surprising if he's not available this weekend.
Dec 12, 2024
Back at practice
Herbert (ankle/thigh) returned to practice Thursday, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert, who is dealing with a left ankle injury, as well as a thigh contusion, per Kris Rhim of ESPN, missed practice Wednesday, but the QB's presence at Thursday's session is a good sign with regard to his status for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. The Chargers' upcoming injury report will clarify Herbert's official participation level, in any case.
Dec 11, 2024
Not practicing
Herbert (leg) isn't practicing Wednesday, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday that Herbert is dealing with an ankle injury as well as a leg contusion, per Daniel Popper of The Athletic. Herbert left Sunday's loss to the Chiefs in the second quarter but then returned in short order and led the Chargers offense to 17 points after halftime. He'll likely play against Tampa Bay on Sunday even if he's not 100 percent healthy, although Taylor Heinicke and Easton Stick are taking the QB reps in practice at the start of the week.
Dec 9, 2024
Downplays leg injury
Herbert (leg) said following Sunday's 19-17 loss to the Chiefs that he doesn't expect the leg contusion he sustained in the second quarter to affect him going forward, Kris Rhim of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert said he "took a shot there and was in some pain, but felt good to go and went back in" during Sunday Night Football. The franchise quarterback could be seen walking with a visible limp after Sunday's contest, but it doesn't appear as though he expects to still be dealing with any restrictions versus Tampa Bay in Week 15. Herbert completed 21 of 30 pass attempts for 213 yards and one touchdown versus Kansas City, in addition to four carries for 12 yards.
Dec 8, 2024
Over 200 passing yards in loss
Herbert completed 21 of his 30 pass attempts for 213 passing yards and a touchdown in the 19-17 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. He also carried the ball four times for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
Despite entering the game without his favorite target in Ladd McConkey (knee/shoulder) and losing another in Will Dissly (shoulder) during the contest, Herbert played well enough despite the hostile conditions. The Pro Bowl quarterback sprinkled the ball around to eight different targets and completed more than 20 passes for just the second time in the last six contests. He also left the game briefly after taking a big hit to his lower body, but the 26-year-old was able to return after missing just one play. Coach Jim Harbaugh clarified after the game that Herbert was dealing with a leg contusion, per Daniel Popper of The Athletic. The status of McConkey will be worth monitoring given Los Angeles' next opponent is the porous Tampa Bay pass defense, and should the rookie play, Herbert could be poised for a solid fantasy day.
Dec 1, 2024
Muted fantasy day
Herbert completed 16 of his 23 pass attempts for 147 yards in the 17-13 win over the Falcons on Sunday. He also tallied one yard on five carries.
ANALYSIS
Herbert and the offense were content allowing the Falcons to beat themselves, and Kirk Cousins obliged en route to four interceptions, including a pick-six. It's not necessarily something actionable, but in J.K. Dobbins' (knee) first game on injured reserve, the Chargers offense tallied just 17 carries for 56 yards, which in turn dramatically impacted Herbert's ability to dice up the defense via play action. What's more, Ladd McConkey, the rookie wideout who caught nine of the 16 total completions Sunday, has been laboring through a lower-body injury for much of the past three weeks and his absence could dramatically impact the offense in future weeks too. Expect the Pro Bowl quarterback to have a difficult fantasy day in Arrowhead next week against the Chiefs.
Nov 25, 2024
Uses legs to score Monday
Herbert completed 21 of 36 pass attempts for 218 yards, no touchdowns or turnovers while rushing four times for 29 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 30-23 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Herbert didn't post big passing numbers on Monday Night Football, but he helped fantasy managers with his second rushing touchdown of the season. The 26-year-old didn't perform poorly as a passer, per se, but it was also his second game this year without throwing a touchdown pass in head coach Jim Harbaugh's more reserved offense. Herbert has a high enough floor to warrant consideration in next Sunday's matchup against the Falcons.
Nov 18, 2024
Dazzling outing in win
Herbert completed 17 of his 36 pass attempts for 297 yards and two touchdowns in the 34-27 win over the Bengals on Sunday. He also led the team in rushing with 65 yards on five carries.
ANALYSIS
This was easily Herbert's worst game of the season in terms of completion percentage, but the Pro Bowl quarterback continued to hit big play after big play against a soft Bengals defense all night. The 26-year-old also tallied the fourth-most rushing yards of his career thanks in large part to a 30-yard run in the second quarter that eventually helped put the Chargers up two scores following a J.K. Dobbins touchdown. It seems as if Herbert may have found his go-to target in this one too, as Ladd McConkey (6-123) recorded receptions of 28 yards and 27 yards in what amounted to the game-winning touchdown drive late in the fourth quarter, each beautifully delivered by the gun-slinging quarterback. Herbert could be poised for another excellent fantasy outing next week against the Ravens.
Nov 10, 2024
Two touchdowns in win
Herbert completed 14 of his 18 pass attempts for 164 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-17 win over the Titans. He also ran nine times for 32 yards and an additional score.
ANALYSIS
Herbert posted his best completion percentage of the season in a sharp and efficient outing against an overmatched Tennessee team. It was the first time in the last four games the Pro Bowl quarterback failed to eclipse 200-plus passing yards, but that was largely due to game script given the Chargers ran the ball 39 times against their overmatched opponent. Expect Herbert to be in a much better fantasy spot for production next week when he takes on the Bengals pass defense.
Nov 3, 2024
Strong showing in win
Herbert completed 18 of 27 passes for 282 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and rushed three times for two yards in the Chargers' 27-10 win over the Browns on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Herbert continued his upward trajectory through the air with another successful passing performance Sunday, posting his third straight total of over 275 passing yards while also tossing multiple touchdowns for the second consecutive contest. Sunday, those scoring throws went to Joshua Palmer (28 yards) and Quentin Johnston (66 yards) in the first and second quarters, respectively, with both plays resulting at least partly due to busted coverages. In addition to his increased efficiency, Herbert also has a six-game streak without an interception heading into a Week 10 home matchup against the Titans.
Oct 27, 2024
Heating up after slow start
Herbert completed 20 of 32 passes for 279 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 26-8 win over the Saints. He added 49 yards on four rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Herbert threw second-half touchdowns of 60 and nine yards to Ladd McConkey as the Chargers pulled away for an easy win. The fifth-year quarterback's rushing total was bolstered by a career-long 38-yard run in the first quarter. Herbert has averaged 314 passing yards in his last two games after averaging only 163 passing yards per game in his first five starts this season. He seems to be fully recovered from the ankle injury that bothered him earlier in the season, which bodes well for Herbert's chances of building on his recent uptick in Week 9 against the Browns.
Oct 22, 2024
Vintage yardage total in win
Herbert completed 27 of 39 passes for 349 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed twice for eight yards in the Chargers' 17-15 loss to the Cardinals on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
Herbert turned in a final line reminiscent of previous seasons, even though he was operating without No. 2 receiver Quentin Johnston (ankle). The fifth-year pro connected with an impressive nine different targets on the night on his way to a season high in passing yardage. Herbert did go without a touchdown pass for the first time this season, but he put his team in position for a win by leading a marathon 15-play, 77-yard march that took up over eight minutes in the fourth quarter and culminated in a go-ahead field goal. While the Bolts' defense ultimately couldn't hold up its end of the bargain, Herbert appears to be trending in the right direction fantasy-wise heading into a Week 8 home matchup against the Saints.
Oct 13, 2024
Season high in passing yards
Herbert completed 21 of his 34 attempts for 237 yards and a touchdown in the 23-16 win over the Broncos on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Herbert has had significantly better statistical days, but make no mistake, Sunday was one of the best outings of his career. Despite facing a Broncos secondary that had rightfully earned the reputation as one of the best in the league, the Pro Bowl signal caller was flinging it all around the field throughout the first half dropping dimes against single coverage and throwing frozen ropes on 15-yard first-down darts. It was even more impressive given Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey both left at various points in the first half, although his top two targets did return during the contest. Herbert tallied a season-high 184 yards in the first half and with the Chargers up three scores until the fourth quarter, the offense was content sitting on the ball over the course of the final 30 minutes. The 26-year-old could be poised to build off this performance against a Cardinals defense that allowed four touchdowns against the Packers in Week 6.
Oct 11, 2024
Good to go Sunday
Herbert (ankle) practiced fully Friday and doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
After turning in back-to-back limited sessions Wednesday and Thursday, Herbert's full participation Friday paves the way for him to start against Denver this weekend. The QB has been managing an ankle injury of late, but Herbert no doubt benefited from the Chargers' Week 5 bye and should be closer to 100 percent ahead of Week 6 action.
Oct 10, 2024
Logs another limited practice
Herbert (ankle) was limited at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After logging back-to-back limited sessions, Herbert will likely need to practice fully Friday in order to avoid a Week 6 injury designation. However, while the QB continues to manage an ankle issue, there's been nothing to suggest that his availability for Sunday's game against the Broncos is in any danger.
Oct 9, 2024
Still limited by ankle issue
Herbert (ankle) was limited at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Herbert had some time to rest his troublesome ankle during the Chargers' bye week, but the QB's listed limitations Wednesday suggest that he continues to manage the issue ahead of Sunday's game against the Broncos. That said, there's been nothing to suggest that Herbert is in any danger of missing the contest, though unless he practices fully by Friday, he figures to carry a Week 6 injury designation.
Sep 29, 2024
Stymied by KC
Herbert completed 16 of 27 passes for 179 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Herbert led the Chargers' on a 10-play, 74-yard touchdown drive on their opening possession, during which he went 4-for-4 for 49 yards. However, he mostly struggled from there as the offense picked up only 12 total first downs and 224 net yards. Herbert has limited mistakes through four games this season, but he has also yet to reach 180 passing yards as the Chargers continue to employ a very conservative offense. Positively, he'll have a week to rest his ankle injury as the team its bye week.
Sep 29, 2024
Active versus Chiefs
Herbert (ankle) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Herbert, who was limited in all three of the Chargers' practices this week after having aggravated his high right-ankle sprain last weekend, approached the contest officially listed as questionable. With his active status confirmed, the QB will continue to work through his injury versus Kansas City. It remains to be seen how much Herbert's ankle issue will impact his mobility Sunday, but he'll give a go, with Taylor Heinicke and Easton Stick available to sub in should Herbert end up suffering a setback, as he did during Week 3 action.
Sep 28, 2024
Expected to play
Herbert (ankle) is expected to play Sunday against the Chiefs, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert, who is listed as questionable for the contest, will go through a pre-game warmup to determine completely if he's able to go, but the expectation is that the franchise signal caller will be available for the pivotal divisional matchup against the Chiefs. The fifth-year starter played in a similar circumstance last week, only to leave early in the fourth quarter after aggravating the reported high-ankle sprain. The Chargers have an early bye next week and are expecting to miss both starting tackles, Rashawn Slater (pectoral) and Joe Alt (knee), so it wasn't a guarantee Herbert would play in this one. Expect the offense to lean heavily on the rushing attack, like it always does, to neutralize the high-scoring capability of the Chiefs and keep the game close.

Questionable for Week 4
Herbert (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Herbert, who was limited in all three of the Chargers' practices this week, previously relayed that he's "doing everything he can" to play this weekend despite having aggravated his high right-ankle sprain last Sunday, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports. While it's possible that the Chargers could consider erring on the side of caution with Herbert, considering the team is on bye Week 5, the QB indicated Wednesday he doesn't "think that's the way we're heading." Look for added information concerning his status to arrive late Saturday or early Sunday in advance of the team's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, but if Herbert is held out versus Kansas City, Taylor Heinicke would presumably fill in, per Rhim.
Sep 26, 2024
Still limited at practice
Herbert (ankle) remained limited at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Herbert, who was also listed as limited Wednesday, previously noted that he is "doing everything he can" to play Sunday against the Chiefs despite having aggravated his high right ankle sprain during Week 3 action, per Kris Rhim of ESPN. With the Chargers on bye in Week 5, Herbert acknowledged Wednesday that the team has had discussions about him possibly sitting out Sunday in order to rest his ankle, but the QB noted he doesn't "think that's the way we're heading." Friday's injury report will add further context regarding Herbert's Week 4 status, but chances are, he'll head into the weekend listed as questionable. Taylor Heinicke would presumably start versus Kansas City in the event Herbert ends up being deemed unavailable for Los Angeles' 4:25 ET contest.
Sep 25, 2024
Practices in limited capacity
Herbert (ankle) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Per Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Herbert indicated Wednesday that his ankle feels better than it did at this stage last week, while adding that he's feeling "less pain" and was able to do some 7-on-7 work during his limited session. In terms of the notion that the Chargers could consider resting Herbert this weekend with the team on bye in Week 5, the QB noted that he "doesn't think that's the way we're heading" as Sunday's game against the Chiefs approaches, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Sep 25, 2024
Making progress
Coach Jim Harbaugh noted Wednesday that the MRI Herbert (ankle) underwent Monday revealed that the QB is "progressing," Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With that in mind, Harbaugh added that Herbert -- who has shed his walking boot -- might do some things in practice Wednesday. It remains to be seen how the team lists Herbert's participation level, but either way, the signal-caller's status will need to be monitored closely ahead of Sunday's 4:25 ET kickoff against the Chiefs. After Herbert aggravated his ankle injury in the Chargers' Week 3 loss to the Steelers, Taylor Heinicke took over the team's QB duties.
Sep 23, 2024
X-ray results negative
Herbert (ankle) had X-ray results on his right ankle come up negative after Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Steelers, in which he aggravated his high-ankle sprain, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports,
ANALYSIS
Herbert entered Sunday's matchup with Pittsburgh carrying a "questionable" designation and was forced out midway through the third quarter due to an aggravation of his injury. The franchise quarterback was then spotted in a walking boot after the game, but Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports Herbert described himself as "hopeful" to go through a similar process to the one that allowed him to be cleared to face the Steelers, with the Chargers now preparing for a Week 4 matchup against Kansas City. Taylor Heinicke took over for Herbert in Week 3, and Los Angeles also had Easton Stick active as a third quarterback Sunday.
Sep 22, 2024
Undergoes X-Rays
Herbert (ankle) underwent X-rays after Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Steelers, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert, who described the injury that forced him out of the contest as a "continuation" of his high-ankle sprain, was sporting a walking boot afterward. Added context regarding his Week 4 status should arrive after the results of his X-rays are revealed, but for now the QB indicated that he is "hopeful" in terms of his ability to go through the same process that prepared him to be available versus Pittsburgh, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
Sep 22, 2024
Exits Sunday's game
Herbert exited Sunday's game against the Steelers with an ankle injury.
ANALYSIS
Herbert, who has been dealing with a right high-ankle sprain, approached the game listed as questionable, but after testing things out in warmups, he drew the start versus Pittsburgh. In the wake of an apparent aggravation of his ankle issue, Taylor Heinicke is in at QB for the Chargers.
Sep 22, 2024
Active, set to start Sunday
Herbert (ankle) is active for Sunday's game against the Steelers and is expected to start, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Coming out of the Chargers' Week 2 win over the Panthers, Herbert has been tending to a right high-ankle sprain, which kept him from practicing Wednesday and Friday. The Chargers apparently saw enough from Herbert during his limited practice Thursday and during pregame warmups Sunday to sign off on him playing, though the fact that the team is keeping both of his backups (Easton Stick and Taylor Heinicke) active for Week 3 suggests that there still may be some level of concern about his health. In any case, Herbert should play through the ankle sprain so long as he's able to tolerate the pain, though his mobility in the pocket might be compromised to some degree. Expect the Chargers to continue to lean heavily on the run game, with backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards having combined for 56 carries through the first two weeks of the season.
Sep 21, 2024
Likely to be game-time call
Herbert (ankle) is preparing to play Sunday against Pittsburgh, but the Chargers aren't expected to make a decision on his status until pre-game warmups, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert is dealing with a high-ankle sprain that held him to a DNP/LP/DNP progression during the practice week. The veteran quarterback appears intent on suiting up against the Steelers, but Los Angeles isn't likely to allow him to play if his ankle doesn't hold up during warmups. Herbert's status remains in limbo, so fantasy managers who roster and plan to start him should be prepared with a backup option if he's ultimately ruled out. Easton Stick would likely take over as the Chargers' starting signal caller if Herbert isn't able to play, though Taylor Heinecke is also on the roster and could factor in.
Sep 21, 2024
Has shot to play
Herbert, who is reportedly dealing with a high-ankle sprain, will test out his ankle before Sunday's contest and could play against the Steelers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It's better than saying Herbert outright won't play, but the reported cadence doesn't sound too much different than what was already expected for the Pro Bowl quarterback after Herbert revealed he was dealing with a right high-ankle sprain earlier this week. Given the Chargers' run heavy approach, it's entirely possible the team will still have Herbert operate as the quarterback without putting his injured ankle at significant risk dropping back to pass repeatedly, but should the pre-game warmup reveal any struggles, it's unclear if the team will go with Easton Stick or Taylor Heinicke, who was acquired at the end of the preseason, as the backup QB.
Sep 20, 2024
Questionable for Week 3
Herbert (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game at Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Herbert revealed Friday that the injury he sustained during the Chargers' Week 2 win in Carolina is a high right-ankle sprain, which didn't allow him to practice until Thursday. During that session, he was spotted with a heavy tape job on his right ankle, per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com. Herbert also told Rhim on Friday that it's "yet to be decided" whether he'll be able to play Sunday, but if the quarterback ultimately can't go, Easton Stick would get the call under center for Los Angeles.
Sep 20, 2024
Has high ankle sprain
Herbert said Friday that it's "yet to be decided" whether or not he'll play Sunday at Pittsburgh, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports. Additionally, Herbert relayed that he's dealing with a high right-ankle sprain.
ANALYSIS
Herbert logged all 69 offensive snaps during the Chargers' Week 2 win in Carolina, but afterward he underwent X-rays on his right leg, which were returned negative. He eventually was diagnosed with a generic ankle injury and didn't return to practice until Thursday, when he was limited. During that session, Herbert's right ankle was heavily taped, per Rhim, and now that the nature of the issue has been confirmed by the quarterback, it's no surprise has lack of reps so far this week. The Chargers will reveal a Week 3 game designation for Herbert later Friday, but Easton Stick is on hand to start if the former is unable to go this weekend.
Sep 19, 2024
Limited in return to practice
Herbert (ankle) was listed as a limited practice participant Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After logging a 'DNP' on Wednesday, Herbert's return to a limited session a day later has him trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Steelers. Per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com, the QB appeared to have his right ankle heavily taped Thursday, so it remains to be seen if Herbert will be able to upgrade to full participation Friday. If that doesn't occur, he'd be likely to head into the weekend with a Week 3 injury designation.
Sep 19, 2024
At practice Thursday
Herbert (ankle) is present for Thursday's practice, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was listed as a non-participant Wednesday, so his presence at the start of Thursday's session is a positive sign ahead of Sunday's game against the Steelers. The Chargers' upcoming practice/injury report will clarify the QB's participation level.
Sep 18, 2024
Misses practice
Herbert (ankle) didn't practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Herbert didn't miss any snaps after injuring his ankle in the third quarter of Sunday's 26-3 win over the Panthers. He's likely now dealing with swelling and/or stiffness, and coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday that Easton Stick will fill in at QB if Herbert isn't ready for Sunday's game at Pittsburgh.
Sep 18, 2024
Not seen at practice
Herbert (ankle) wasn't spotted during the initial portion of Wednesday's practice, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Popper, Herbert's current ankle issue is on the same side (right) as the plantar fascia injury that the QB dealt with in training camp. Meanwhile Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports that coach Jim Harbaugh noted that Herbert was feeling a lot better Wednesday, while acknowledging that Easton Stick would be in line to fill in Sunday against the Steelers if Herbert doesn't progress enough this week to be available for the contest.
Sep 18, 2024
Dealing with ankle injury
Herbert (ankle) will be listed on Wednesday's injury report and may not be a full participant in practice, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
X-rays on Herbert's lower right leg Monday were negative, but it looks like he did pick up an ankle injury during Los Angeles' 26-3 win over the Panthers in Week 2. The franchise quarterback suffered the injury in the third quarter, but he was able to finish the contest after getting taped up. At this juncture, there's not yet any indication that Herbert is dealing with an injury that could impact his availability Sunday versus the Steelers, but it's possible his effectiveness as a runner could be hampered. Herbert's official practice level Wednesday will provide more clarity on his health.
Sep 16, 2024
X-rays come up negative
Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that X-Rays on Herbert's right leg are negative, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Harbaugh said Los Angeles will know more about Herbert's status as the week progresses, but for now it's encouraging that the franchise quarterback has at least avoided a fracture. It's worth noting that Monday's imaging results don't dismiss the possibility of a soft-tissue injury for Herbert, who got rolled up in the third quarter of Sunday's win over the Panthers but quickly managed to retake the field. The Chargers have Easton Stick and Taylor Heinicke available behind Herbert heading into a Week 3 matchup against the Steelers.
Sep 15, 2024
Undergoes X-Rays
Herbert (undisclosed) relayed after Sunday's win over the Panthers that he underwent X-Rays after the contest, Daniel Popper of The Athletic and Kris Rhim of ESPN.com report.
ANALYSIS
Herbert, who was able to finish the contest after getting taped up, indicated that he "got rolled up" on after a fumble in the second half. In terms of how that might affect his Week 3 status, the Chargers' starting QB said he will "know more in the next couple of days."
Sep 15, 2024
Plays game-manager role in win
Herbert completed 14 of 20 passes for 130 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while adding six carries for 18 yards in the Chargers' 26-3 win over the Panthers on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Through two games, Herbert is probably close to unrecognizable to fantasy managers who frequently benefitted from his gaudy yardage totals over his first four seasons. With the Chargers able to stick to head coach Jim Harbaugh's preferred method of winning a game -- that being through a punishing ground attack and sound defense -- Herbert has attempted just 43 passes through two games. However, he did reward those rolling with him in their lineups Sunday by tossing a pair of touchdown passes to Quentin Johnston of 29 and five yards in the first half. Herbert also visited the blue medical tent after a hard hit briefly in the third quarter per Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, but he quickly returned to the game. Next up for Herbert and the Chargers is a challenging and second straight cross-country road trip, as Los Angeles will face off with the Steelers in Week 3.
Sep 8, 2024
Hardly needed in win
Herbert completed 17 of his 26 pass attempts for 144 yards and a touchdown in the 22-10 win over the Raiders on Sunday. He also ran the ball four times for six yards.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers tallied just two first downs total in the first half, its fewest in a half since 2012, as the team seemed content scrapping out yards on the ground. The heavy emphasis on the rushing attack finally paid off in the second half as J.K. Dobbins tore through Las Vegas' defense, opening up a bit of passing room for Herbert. A complete dud of a fantasy day was saved by a short touchdown pass to Ladd McConkey in the waning moments of the game as the defense completely sold out to stop the run. The Chargers could deploy a similar game plan next week against a seemingly hapless Panthers team.
Sep 5, 2024
Another full practice Thursday
Herbert (foot) was listed as a full practice participant Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Wednesday's initial injury report didn't include Herbert's name, but that has been amended to note that the QB practiced fully through a listed foot issue. That said, Herbert -- who was diagnosed with an injury to the plantar fascia in his right foot July 31 -- indicated Wednesday that he's back to 100 percent, per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com. Meanwhile, the Chargers' franchise QB relayed that he isn't wearing any special kind of cleat or sole to support his foot, adding that managing the injury throughout the season is "not really on (his) mind right now." In any case, Herbert is poised to start Sunday's regular-season opener against the Raiders.
Sep 4, 2024
Not on injury report
Herbert (foot) isn't listed on the initial injury report for Sunday's season opener against the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
A few weeks of rest seemed to take care of his plantar fascia injury, with Herbert returning to practice Aug. 19 and now participating without limitations. The fact he isn't even listed on the injury report suggests he'll have his usual mobility Sunday in his first ever game under coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman. WR DJ Chark (hip) is the only significant injury concern for the Chargers offense, and even he may be more of an ancillary piece than a regular starter.
Aug 20, 2024
Looking good in 7-on-7s
Coach Jim Harbaugh said Herbert (foot) "looked great with a capital G" during 7-on-7 drills Monday, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was held out of 11-on-11s in his first practice since being diagnosed July 31 with a plantar fascia injury. He used a walking boot for two weeks and is now progressing through what the Chargers call a "gradual return to play protocol." Herbert should be ready for a Week 1 home game against the Raiders, but it's fair to wonder if the foot injury will impact his mobility or become a problem again as the season progresses.
Aug 19, 2024
At practice Monday
Herbert (foot) was present for practice Monday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert is bouncing back from a plantar fascia injury, and after having shed his walking boot last week, the QB is back on the practice field for the first time this month. It remains to be seen when Herbert will be able to work without restriction, but either way he's trending toward being available for the Chargers' season opener against the Raiders.
Aug 19, 2024
Throwing without moving much
Herbert (foot) threw on the field before Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, but he didn't move around much, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Popper notes that the QB mostly threw from a stationary stance during pregame warmups. It's nonetheless a good sign that Herbert has made progress, with the on-field appearance coming a couple days after he was spotted working out in the weight room without a walking boot. Herbert hasn't practiced since the end of July due to a plantar fascia injury, but there hasn't been any indication of concern about his availability for Week 1 against the Raiders.
Aug 15, 2024
Out of walking boot
Herbert worked out in the weight room without a walking boot while the Chargers practiced Thursday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was expected to require the walking boot for about two weeks as he tended to a plantar fascia injury, and he reached the two-week mark Thursday, so he's seemingly on course in his recovery. There's also an expectation that he'll be ready for a Week 1 matchup with the Raiders, meaning his next notable step will be getting back on the practice field in some capacity. While Herbert continues his rehab, the Chargers will entrust the offense in Easton Stick, a 2019 fifth-round pick with 175 passes in six games on his NFL resume.
Aug 1, 2024
Out with plantar fascia injury
Herbert will utilize a boot on his right foot for approximately two weeks after he was diagnosed Wednesday with a plantar fascia injury, but the Chargers are optimistic he'll be ready for the start of the season.
ANALYSIS
It sounds like Herbert will miss the rest of training camp and probably the preseason, with his time confined to the boot followed by a "graduated return to play protocol," per the Chargers' official twitter account. Easton Stick figures to get a majority of first-team QB reps in the meantime, and Herbert's health becomes one of the top football stories of the summer.
May 21, 2024
Hot start to OTAs
Herbert (finger) has impressed early in OTAs during 11-on-11 drills and is already demonstrating a connection with rookie second-rounder Ladd McConkey, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert looks fully recovered from the finger injury that cost him the final four games of the 2023 season, and after losing both Keenan Allen and Mike Williams (knee) this offseason, it's encouraging to see him already trusting McConkey as a go-to target, even if only in 11-on-11 drills. Even with new coach Jim Harbaugh's proclivity for establishing the run, the void left by Allen and Williams signals a notable opportunity up for grabs for McConkey, not to mention returning wideouts Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston. The addition of No. 5 overall pick Joe Alt, who's started at right tackle throughout OTAs, also promises a more reliable pocket for Herbert, which should ease any growing pains in adjusting to a new offensive situation.
Mar 15, 2024
Losing key contributors
Herbert has lost the majority of his offensive playmakers with the departure of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, Austin Ekeler and Gerald Everett this offseason, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
That quartet accounted for 57 percent of Herbert's completions, pass yards and touchdowns last season. Still remaining on the roster are Joshua Palmer and Quentin Johnston, the latter of whom is likely to be asked up considerably in 2024. Coach Jim Harbaugh is also known for his desire to run the ball effectively, though Gus Edwards and Isaiah Spiller are an underwhelming duo atop the running back depth chart. All told, Herbert's supporting cast has taken a significant hit this offseason, even after taking into account that the team could be in line to draft a wide receiver or Brock Bowers with the fifth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Dec 12, 2023
Moves to IR, out for season
The Chargers announced that Herbert will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair a fracture to his right index finger and has been placed on injured reserve.
ANALYSIS
Confirming what Tom Pelissero of NFL Network and others reported minutes earlier, Herbert will miss the rest of the season after having surgery to address the injury he suffered in the second quarter of this past Sunday's 24-7 loss to the Broncos. Herbert should be back to full health by the start of OTAs in the spring, but he'll wrap up his fourth season in Los Angeles with a 65.1 percent completion rate for 3,134 yards, 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions to go with 52 carries for 228 yards and three more scores over his 13 appearances. Easton Stick will take over as the Chargers' starting quarterback beginning with Thursday's game in Las Vegas.
Dec 12, 2023
Gets season-ending surgery
Herbert will undergo surgery Tuesday on his fractured right index finger and is expected to miss the remainder of the season, sources tell Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers haven't officially confirmed that Herbert will be shut down for the season, but head coach Brandon Staley will most likely address the quarterback's status later Tuesday. In Herbert's upcoming absence, fifth-year signal-caller Easton Stick is slated to make his first NFL start Thursday versus the Raiders. Herbert finishes his fourth NFL season having completed 297 of 456 pass attempts (65.1 percent) for 3,134 yards, 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions to go with 228 yards and three scores on 52 carries over 13 appearances. He'll likely make a full recovery from surgery in advance of OTAs in the spring.
Dec 11, 2023
Procedure on finger likely
Herbert is reportedly likely to undergo a procedure Tuesday to address his fractured right index finger, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, whether Herbert will have a chance to able to return to action this season will be determined by the anticipated procedure. Further details from the Chargers likely will emerge regarding the QB's status, but Schefter reported earlier Monday that Herbert isn't expected to play Thursday night against the Raiders. Easton Stick is next up for the team's signal-caller duties for any length of time Herbert misses.
Dec 11, 2023
Expected to miss Thursday's game
Herbert (finger) is not expected to suit up Thursday versus the Raiders due to a right finger fracture, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert suffered a fractured index finger on his right hand during Sunday's loss to the Broncos, and though the Chargers are still determining exactly how much time the franchise quarterback will need to miss, it looks very unlikely that he'll be available on the road during Thursday Night Football. It remains to be seen whether Herbert will need to undergo surgery to address the injury, though he's undergoing further tests Monday. Easton Stick looks set to start Thursday in Herbert's stead, and it's possible he could have to helm Los Angeles' offense for an extended period.
Dec 10, 2023
Fractures finger in throwing hand
Coach Brandon Staley said after Sunday's 24-7 loss to the Broncos that Herbert has a fractured index finger in his right hand, Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert dealt with an injured finger in his left, non-throwing hand earlier this season, but an injured finger in his throwing hand will be harder to navigate. Easton Stick replaced Herbert in the first half of the loss to the Broncos. The Chargers will be on a short week before facing the Raiders on Thursday, and Stick would likely get the start if Herbert isn't ready to play by then. Per Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times, Herbert will undergo additional tests Monday, and surgery may be needed to address the injury.
Dec 10, 2023
Ruled out of Sunday's game
Herbert won't return to Sunday's game against the Broncos due to a right finger injury.
ANALYSIS
Herbert previously dealt with a fractured middle finger on his non-throwing hand this season, but his new concern impacts his throwing hand. Considering he's been ruled out this time around, his status now will need to be monitored to get a sense of his availability for Thursday's game at Las Vegas and beyond. For the time being, Herbert will yield quarterback duties for the Chargers to Easton Stick.
Dec 10, 2023
Hurts finger Sunday
Herbert exited Sunday's game against the Broncos due to a finger injury.
ANALYSIS
Before sustaining his finger injury, Herbert completed nine of 17 pass attempts for 96 yards and a pick. In his absence, Easton Stick is in at quarterback for the Chargers.
Dec 3, 2023
Not tasked with too much
Herbert completed 22 of his 37 attempts for 212 yards in Sunday's 6-0 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
The score tells the whole story in this one. Facing an opposing offense incapable of getting past the 50-yard line and miserable weather conditions all afternoon, Herbert and the Chargers offense were content just avoiding any mistakes. The result is a second consecutive week with a yards-per-attempt figure below six, and Sunday marked just the second time all season the Pro Bowl quarterback failed to toss a touchdown. It might not get much better in Week 14 when the improving Broncos defense travels to Los Angeles.
Nov 27, 2023
Suffers injury scare on SNF
Herbert completed 29 of 44 pass attempts for 217 yards, a touchdown and an interception while rushing four times for 47 yards and losing a fumble in Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Herbert had to be evaluated for a concussion after getting strip-sacked by Jadeveon Clowney in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to Baltimore, as reported by FOX Sports' Eric Williams. The Chargers' star quarterback was eventually cleared to return and did not miss a snap as he unsuccessfully attempted to mount a late comeback. As for his performance on the field, Herbert wound up being responsible for two of the four turnovers that helped contribute to his team's third straight loss. Barring any lingering issues stemming from Sunday's physical battle, it appears as if Herbert avoided injury and should be ready for next Sunday's road matchup in New England.
Nov 19, 2023
Tosses two touchdowns
Herbert completed 21 of 36 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Packers. He also rushed eight times for 73 yards.
ANALYSIS
Herbert endured a number of notable drops Sunday, contributing toward another narrow defeat. The quarterback nonetheless turned in a good individual display, tossing a 51-yard score to Stone Smartt and a 10-yard touchdown to top target Keenan Allen. With a season-high output on the ground as well, Herbert was productive throughout the contest but was handed a second-straight three-point defeat.
Nov 12, 2023
Scintillating in loss
Herbert completed 27 of his 40 pass attempts for 323 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's 41-38 loss to the Lions. He also threw an interception and ran for 15 yards on four carries.
ANALYSIS
In a battle of two heavyweight offenses, Herbert simply ran out of possessions to try and answer as both teams traded major touchdowns all game long. The Pro Bowl quarterback keyed in specifically on Keenan Allen, who caught 11 of his 14 targets for 175 yards and two scores, but a dropped pass in single coverage by Quentin Johnston in the third quarter could have resulted in an even bigger afternoon. Herbert might not be on pace for his career-setting figures of 2021, but he's clearly one of the best fantasy quarterbacks in the league when the Chargers are forced to keep their foot on the gas. Herbert should have plenty of time to pile on production in the second half of the season, beginning with a Week 11 matchup against the Packers.
Nov 6, 2023
Not needed much in win
Herbert completed just 16 of his 30 pass attempts for 136 yards. He didn't record a touchdown or an interception in Monday's 27-6 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
New York's offense hardly threatened at any point in this contest, so Herbert and the Chargers were content to not risk any big plays. Only Keenan Allen (8-9-77) really did much of anything and most of that came late in the second half as the team was positioning itself for the merciful dagger to an ugly overall game. Hopefully Week 10's quality matchup against the Lions will yield more production.
Oct 30, 2023
Masterful performance on SNF
Herbert completed 31 of 40 pass attempts for 298 yards and three touchdowns (no turnovers) in Sunday's 30-13 win over Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was on a mission to correct last week's rough performance against Kansas City, the only game in which he had thrown multiple interceptions this season. The star quarterback was locked in from the jump and likely could have challenged his near-perfect results from Week 3 when he completed 85 percent of his passes for 405 yards, three touchdowns and no turnovers if the Bears kept the score competitive in the second half. It was still an impressive display from Herbert, who is still passively recovering from a broken finger on his non-throwing hand. The Jets present a tougher challenge for the Chargers' quarterback next Monday, but it would be hard to justify benching an arm talent like Herbert in any matchup.
Oct 22, 2023
Struggles in second half of loss
Herbert completed 17 of his 30 pass attempts for 259 yards and one touchdown to go along with two interceptions. He carried the ball twice for five yards.
ANALYSIS
Herbert appears to still be dealing with the broken middle finger in his left hand as the quarterback was spotted getting his splint readjusted during the game, James Palmer of the NFL Network reported. That didn't seem to bother the Pro Bowler too much, but the wheels fell off in the second half as both interceptions -- including a desperation throw in the final minutes -- came in a dreadful second half that saw the Chargers fail to put a single point on the board. It should get easier for Herbert and company next week when the Bears come to Los Angeles.
Oct 17, 2023
Comes up short on MNF
Herbert (finger) completed 22 of 37 pass attempts for 227 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while adding 20 rushing yards on six carries in Monday's 20-17 loss to Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Herbert dealt with the Cowboys' vaunted pass rush well up until the Chargers' final drive when he was sacked by Micah Parsons before promptly throwing an interception to Stephon Gilmore on the ensuing play. On a positive note, the quarterback's game was not limited by the fractured finger on his non-throwing hand suffered in last week's win over Las Vegas. Herbert even absorbed solid contact on a couple of his six rushing attempts Monday, confirming that the rest of his 6-foot-6 frame was in working order. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are on tap for Herbert and Co. in Week 7, a matchup featuring two of the premier arm talents in the league.
Oct 12, 2023
Opens week with full practice
Herbert (finger) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Herbert sustained a fractured middle finger on his non-throwing hand during the Chargers' Week 4 win over the Raiders, but a Week 5 bye afforded the quarterback some extra time to heal up. His ability to take every practice rep Thursday clears up any concern about his availability for Monday's game against the Cowboys, though Herbert never truly appeared to be at risk of missing the contest.

Fractures finger, won't miss time
Herbert suffered a fractured middle finger on his left hand in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Raiders but isn't expected to miss any time, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The right-handed Herbert also suffered an injury to one of the nails on his non-throwing hand, which got caught on the helmet of a Raiders player when he threw an interception late in the third quarter. Herbert returned for the Chargers' next possession and ended up playing all 63 offensive snaps in the contest, finishing with 167 passing yards, 27 rushing yards and accounting for three total touchdowns. With a well-timed bye on tap Week 5, Herbert will have plenty of time to recover before the Chargers return to action Oct. 16 versus the Cowboys, though since the injury is to his non-throwing hand, the quarterback probably would be able to suit up even if Los Angeles had a game this week.

Guts out finger injury
Herbert completed 13 of his 24 pass attempts for 167 yards and one touchdown to go along with one interception in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Raiders. He also ran the ball 12 times for 27 yards and two additional scores.
ANALYSIS
Both of Herbert's rushing touchdowns came in the first half as the Chargers raced out to a commanding lead. The star quarterback appeared to injure his middle finger late in the third quarter during an interception return, but he managed to stay in the game with a glove on his left hand. The injury didn't appear to bother Herbert on the final possession of the game as he ripped a laser of a 51-yard throw to Joshua Palmer on third-and-10 to end a furious comeback attempt by the Raiders. Sunday marked the first turnover by Herbert to date as the fourth-year quarterback appears poised for another massive season.

Lights up Vikings
Herbert completed 40 of 47 passes for 405 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 28-24 win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
There has been no sign of the Chargers run-heavy gameplan from Week 1 of late, as Herbert topped 40 passes for the second consecutive game. He also topped 400 passing yards for the first time in his career, highlighted by eight completions of at least 20 yards -- one more than he had on the season entering Sunday's contest. New offensive coordinator Kellen Moore promised more downfield passing this offseason, and it certainly appears that he's willing to put games into Herbert's hands.
Sep 17, 2023
Tops 300 yards
Herbert completed 27 of 41 passes for 305 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 27-24 overtime loss to the Titans.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers were willing to put the offense in Herbert's hands, and he responded with an excellent performance. He completed four passes of 20 or more yards while also tossing touchdowns from eight and 12 yards away -- both of which went to Keenan Allen. Herbert's volume was also reassuring, as he was limited to only 33 attempts in Week 1 as the team ran its offense through the ground game. Overall, he has 534 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions across two games this season.
Sep 10, 2023
Unable to complete comeback
Herbert completed 23 of 33 pass attempts for 228 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 36-34 loss to the Dolphins. He also tallied five carries for 18 yards and another score.
ANALYSIS
Herbert seemed to make every critical throw when it mattered most, but the star quarterback couldn't do much on the team's final possession as the Dolphins sent the house and picked up multiple sacks to end any fourth-quarter comeback attempt. The electric signal caller didn't have to do too much in this contest as the Chargers rushing attack combined for 234 yards on the ground, although Herbert hardly showed any rust especially with his longtime target, Keenan Allen (6-9-76 yards). He remains a top fantasy QB entering Week 2 against the Titans.

Not likely to play Saturday
Herbert isn't in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Nearly three weeks after inking a five-year, $262.5 million extension with the Chargers, Herbert unsurprisingly won't put anything on the line in the team's exhibition opener. With the change at offensive coordinator from Joe Lombardi to Kellen Moore, though, L.A. likely will do its due diligence and get the first-team offense some snaps together before Week 1. Herbert's next chance for game action is Sunday, Aug. 20 versus the Saints.
Jul 25, 2023
Inks long-term extension
The Chargers and Herbert agreed to terms on a five-year, $262.5 million extension Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
On the eve of Chargers training camp, Herbert's new deal means he's locked in with the team through the 2029 campaign. Through his first three seasons, he's tossed for at least 5,000 passing yards on one occasion and 30-plus touchdowns two times, while also rushing for eight scores in 49 games. Herbert is the second-to-last domino to fall in the QB extension market this offseason, with the Bengals' Joe Burrow next up to bat.

Plans to do 7-on-7 this week
Herbert (shoulder) plans to participate in 7-on-7 drills this week at OTAs, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert underwent surgery on the labrum in his left shoulder following the 2022 campaign and resumed throwing in early May. He's set to take another step forward in his rehab this week, as he'll participate in team drills for the first time his offseason, and he remains on pace to be fully healthy by training camp. A lingering rib issue coupled with injuries to Keenan Allen and Mike Williams made for a disappointing 2022 for the Chargers' offense, but the quarterback got a new offensive coordinator (Kellen Moore) and a new wideout (Quentin Johnston) this offseason, so there's optimism Herbert can bounce back in 2023.
May 22, 2023
Throwing at OTAs
Herbert (shoulder) threw passes to teammates Monday at OTAs, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert resumed throwing earlier in May, about 13-14 weeks after post-season surgery on the labrum in his left shoulder. He's doing well enough to throw in practice, albeit without any defenders on the field for the first day of OTAs. There's still a chance Herbert misses some reps this spring, but he's well on his way to starting Week 1 and has a couple new faces in town (OC Kellen Moore, WR Quentin Johnston) to help him rebound from a disappointing 2022 in which the QB's touchdown rate (3.6 percent, 25 total) and yards per attempt (6.8) nosedived even with a career high in completion percentage (68.2). The Chargers are counting on their offseason additions to help Herbert rebound to his 2020-21 level -- 7.4 YPA; 308.9 total yards and 2.4 TDs per game -- or possibly even reacher greater heights. Offensive line depth looks like a weakness for the Chargers again, but they at least have star LT Rashawn Slater coming back from a biceps tear and an elite center in Corey Linsley.
May 15, 2023
Resumes throwing after surgery
Herbert (shoulder) threw a football Monday, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Coming off winter surgery on a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Herbert hadn't resumed throwing as of late April. He's throwing now, which doesn't mean he'll be cleared for spring practices but does show he's progressing about as expected. Once he's ready to practice, Herbert will have a new offensive coordinator (Kellen Moore) and rookie first-round wideout (Quentin Johnston) on hand to help him thrive in his fourth NFL season.

Receives fifth-year option
The Chargers picked up the fifth-year option on Herbert's (shoulder) rookie contract Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With the May 1 deadline to make such a decision with 2020 first-round picks, L.A. did as expected with its franchise signal-caller. Through three seasons, Herbert has racked up at last 4,300 passing yards on each occasion, posted 94 touchdowns versus 35 interceptions and also added eight scores on the ground. Currently, he's in the midst of his recovery from surgery on his left, non-throwing shoulder and remains a couple weeks away from making light throws, but there's little worry about him being healthy by the time training camp kicks off in late July.

Recovery progressing, not throwing
Herbert's shoulder is roughly 75 percent healed, but he is still a few weeks away from beginning light throwing, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert underwent surgery on his non-throwing shoulder in late January and has been rehabbing since. He may miss OTAs, as the team is likely to play it safe with its franchise quarterback, but there is little concern that he'll be ready for the start of training camp. In the meantime, Herbert and the Chargers have been in talks on a long-term extension.

Uncertain for OTAs
Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said Herbert (shoulder) is "up in the air" for OTAs next month, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Herbert underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left, non-throwing shoulder shortly after the Wild Card loss to the Jaguars. He was initially believed to be injured in Week 17. The two sides are also in the midst of long-term contract extension talks. Herbert should be healed in time for training camp later this summer.

In contract extension talks
The Chargers and Herbert are working toward a long-term contract extension for the QB, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN reports. "Those talks are ongoing," coach Brandon Staley noted Tuesday. "We're at the beginning of all that, but (we) all know how we feel about him."
ANALYSIS
While there's no concrete timetable for the team to get a lucrative extension with Herbert done, Staley emphasized that "the major takeaway is that Justin Herbert is going to be our quarterback, and we're so excited that he is leading our franchise." The 2020 first-rounder is slated to earn $4.23 million in the fourth season of his rookie deal, with Thiry adding that the Chargers are in line to exercise Herbert's fifth-year option. In the meantime, Herbert continues to recover from surgery on the labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder that he underwent on Jan. 25, with his participation level once offseason workouts commence still to be determined.
Jan 29, 2023
Undergoes successful surgery
Herbert underwent surgery to repair the labrum in his left shoulder Wednesday, but the team expects him to be cleared for the Chargers' offseason program, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Herbert popped up on the injury report with a left shoulder injury following the Chargers' win over the Rams in Week 17. He finished the contest with 212 yards and two touchdowns but was replaced by Chase Daniels in the fourth quarter. Herbert didn't appear limited by the issue during the regular-season finale against Denver or the wild-card loss to Jacksonville, as he finished with 273 yards in both games and had three total touchdowns during that stretch. The third-year quarterback was an alternate for the Pro Bowl, but he'll sit out the contest and set his sights on preparing for the 2023 regular season.
Jan 15, 2023
One touchdown in playoff loss
Herbert completed 25 of 43 passes for 273 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions in Saturday's 31-30 wild-card round loss to the Jaguars. He added three rushes for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
It didn't lead to a particularly notable performance from a box score standpoint, but Herbert helped lead the Chargers to 27 points in the first half. His lone touchdown came on a nine-yard completion with Gerald Everett midway through the second quarter. Herbert did struggle in the second half -- along with the entire team -- as he averaged only 5.8 yards per attempt and failed to generate offense at key points in the game. Overall, Herbert put together another fairly strong season, though he failed to top 30 touchdowns for the first time in his career and averaged a career-low 6.8 yards per attempt across 17 games.
Jan 8, 2023
Heads into postseason on high note
Herbert completed 25 of 37 passes for 273 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and rushed twice for minus-1 yard in the Chargers' 31-28 loss to the Broncos on Sunday. He also fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
Herbert and his fellow first-unit weapons played the majority of the game despite the Chargers' playoff positioning being locked in. The third-year signal-caller hit Keenan Allen and Gerald Everett with scoring tosses from 14 and three yards out, respectively, giving him eight multi-touchdown performances during the regular season. Mike Williams' early exit due to a back injury is naturally a concerning development ahead of Sunday's road wild-card matchup against the Jaguars, however, and certainly could affect Herbert's fantasy outlook for what already lines up as a difficult matchup.
Jan 1, 2023
Pair of touchdowns in blowout win
Herbert completed 21 of 28 passes for 212 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 31-10 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Herbert and the Chargers moved the ball with ease against the Rams, scoring four total offensive touchdowns. His pair came on tosses of six and three yards in the middle of the third and late fourth quarters, respectively. Herbert managed to throw for multiple touchdowns for the first time in his last four games, and he could have had a bigger game if he hadn't been pulled with a comfortable lead early in the final quarter. It remains to be seen whether Herbert will start the Chargers' Week 18 matchup against the Broncos, which will likely be dependent on whether playoff seeding is at stake.
Dec 26, 2022
Little production in blowout win
Herbert completed 24 of 31 passes for 235 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Monday's 20-3 win over the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Though the Chargers had a relatively easy win and clinched a trip to the postseason, Herbert had one of his last productive games of the season. That was in part caused by game script, though he was sacked four times and was regularly under pressure which limited his ability to push the ball deep. Herbert has now failed to throw for a touchdown in consecutive games, though he should have the opportunity to bounce back against a Rans defense that has been depleted by injuries in recent weeks.
Dec 18, 2022
Tops 300 yards in Sunday's win
Herbert completed 28 of 42 passes for 313 yards with two interceptions in Sunday's 17-14 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Despite the fact he posted his third straight 300-yard game, Herbert failed to get the ball into the end zone for only the third time in 46 career NFL contests. He still came up big when it counted, however, getting the Chargers in position for a game-winning field goal with just 44 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Herbert will look to rack up some TDs in Week 16 against a Colts defense that could still be reeling after huge second-half collapses in each of its last two games.
Dec 11, 2022
Sterling effort in win
Herbert completed 39 of his 51 pass attempts for 367 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-17 win over the Dolphins. He also ran four times for eight yards.
ANALYSIS
While fantasy managers will not be thrilled with the performance, this was among one of the best games of Hebert's career. The 39 completions set a career high while the 367 passing yards was his fourth most in a contest, but more importantly the third-year pro did it all while constantly maneuvering throughout the pocket, time and again stepping up, around and inbetween pass rushers to create enough time to hit the open receiver. It's hard not to notice this type of outing coming with the trio of Mike Williams, Keenan Allen and Austin Ekeler all healthy, the first time that's occurred since Week 1, but even still, it's clear Herbert feels healthy himself after dealing with a severe rib injury since Week 5. Expect the offense to continue humming Week 15 against the Titans.
Dec 4, 2022
Tops 300 in loss
Herbert tallied 28 completions on 47 attempts for 335 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Raiders. He also tallied seven yards on five carries.
ANALYSIS
The Raiders' fearsome pass rush proved to be an issue for the Chargers all game long as Herbert struggled to find much rhythm. The star quarterback did complete passes to eight different targets, but the overwhelming majority went to just Keenan Allen, Gerald Everett, Austin Ekeler and Joshua Palmer. Los Angeles' erratic defense has essentially made Herbert a near consistent top option most weeks, and it shouldn't change in the coming weeks with a number of dangerous teams still left on the schedule.
Nov 27, 2022
Three touchdowns to rally for win
Herbert completed 35 of 47 passes for 274 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 25-24 win over the Cardinals. He added four rushes for 38 yards.
ANALYSIS
Herbert threw for three touchdowns for the first time since Week 2, cashing in for two, 33 and one-yard scores. He also managed a strong yardage total, though that came primarily due to volume rather than efficiency as he averaged only 5.8 yards per attempt. Though his production came from his work as a passer, Herbert did chip in a season-best 38 rushing yards -- also good enough to lead the team.
Nov 20, 2022
Excels in loss
Herbert tallied 23 completions on 30 attempts for 280 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 30-27 loss to the Chiefs. He also carried the ball five times for 17 yards.
ANALYSIS
Herbert set season highs in completion percentage and yards per completion, but the sterling outing wasn't enough to help the Chargers pull off the win. Sunday marked the first time since Week 7 the third-year signal caller tallied multiple touchdowns in a contest, and not coincidentally Sunday also marked the return of his two top targets in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, although the latter didn't make it through the full game after sustaining an ankle injury. At the moment Herbert is on pace for career lows in touchdowns and rushing yards, but most of that can be explained away with the injuries to his pass catchers and the rib injury suffered back in the end of September. The Pro Bowl quarterback should be poised for an intriguing stretch with matchups against the porous defenses of the Cardinals, Raiders and Dolphins over the next three weeks.
Nov 13, 2022
Shut out in second half
Herbert completed 21 of 35 passes for 196 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 22-16 loss to the 49ers. He also ran the ball five times for 22 yards.
ANALYSIS
Herbert and the Chargers put together a brilliant opening drive that culminated in a wide-open touchdown to DeAndre Carter, but the offense was unable to score another touchdown from that point forward as the 49ers never allowed a big play. The superstar quarterback briefly was forced to leave the game to end the second quarter after taking a crushing hit, but after passing concussion protocols Herbert was allowed to return to the game. Up next is a pivotal divisional matchup against the Chiefs, who allowed Herbert to wrack up 334 passing yards in the Week 2 loss.
Nov 6, 2022
Held in check by Atlanta
Herbert completed 30 of 43 passes for 245 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 20-17 win over Atlanta. He added three yards on one rushing attempt.
ANALYSIS
Working without top two wide receivers Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (ankle), Herbert was held to a paltry 5.7 yards per pass attempt by a Falcons secondary that came in having allowed the most passing yards in the league. The Chargers got off to a slow start as usual, becoming the third team in NFL history to trail by at least 10 points after the first quarter of four consecutive games, but they climbed out of that hole by halftime, as Herbert's one-yard touchdown pass to Austin Ekeler put Los Angeles up 14-10. After Atlanta took advantage of a Herbert interception to retake the lead 17-14 in the third quarter, he led a pair of field goal drives in the fourth, with Cameron Dicker's 37-yard field goal propelling the Chargers to a 20-17 victory as time expired. Expectations should be tempered for Herbert in Week 10 against the robust 49ers secondary, especially if the Chargers remain without Allen and Williams.
Oct 23, 2022
Airs it out again in loss
Herbert completed 33 of 51 passes for 293 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 37-23 loss to the Seahawks. He added 22 rushing yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
For the second straight week, Herbert had to attempt more than 50 passes, but this time the volume didn't result in a win. The quarterback's numbers were still solid, especially considering his depleted wideout group -- Joshua Palmer (concussion) was inactive, Keenan Allen didn't appear to be 100 percent after returning from a hamstring strain, and even Mike Williams limped off with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter. Herbert has tossed multiple TDs in four of seven games to begin the season, and the offense's injury situation may not be so dire coming out of the Chargers' Week 8 bye.
Oct 18, 2022
Attempts 57 passes
Herbert completed 37 of his 57 passes for 238 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Monday's 19-16 win over the Broncos. He added two rushes for nine yards.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers possessed the ball for nearly 39 minutes as opposed to Denver's 28 minutes of possession. That allowed Herbert to rack up an incredible volume of pass attempts, though he managed only an abysmal 4.2 yards per attempt which limited him to under 250 passing yards for the second consecutive game. The performance also marked the first time that Herbert failed to find the end zone this season, though he could be in for a bounceback performance in what figures to be a fast-paced Week 7 matchup against the Seahawks.
Oct 9, 2022
Takes backseat in win
Herbert completed 22 of his 34 pass attempts for 228 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-28 win over the Browns. He also carried the ball five times for 13 yards.
ANALYSIS
Herbert took a backseat as the Chargers compiled 238 rushing yards against a porous Browns run defense. The young quarterback has been absolutely dynamic to begin the season as Herbert is currently second in the NFL in passing yards and near the top of the league in terms of TD:INT ratio (10:2). The fact he's done almost all this damage without his top wideout in Keenan Allen (hamstring) is all the more surprising. Expect things to get a bit more difficult for Herbert and company next week against a tough Broncos defense.
Oct 2, 2022
Lights up Texans
Herbert completed 27 of 39 passes for 340 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 34-24 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Herbert remained on the injury report due to fractured rib cartilage for much of the week, though he showed no sign of pain against the Texans. He threw multiple touchdowns for the third time this season, including an 18 yard-toss to Gerald Everett and a 14-yard completion to Austin Ekeler. Ekeler finished off two drives on the ground, which cost Herbert a bigger performance. Nevertheless, he showed the continued ability to hit for big plays -- even in the absence of Keenan Allen (hamstring) -- highlighted by a 50-yard completion to Mike Williams.
Sep 30, 2022
Good to go Week 4
Herbert (ribs) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game in Houston.
ANALYSIS
Herbert gutted out the fractured rib cartilage he suffered Week 2 last Sunday against the Jaguars, completing 25 of 45 passes for 297 yards, one touchdown and one interception while playing all 58 snaps on offense. After capping Week 4 prep with back-to-back full practices, his status isn't in question for Sunday, but he will be without Keenan Allen (hamstring) for a third consecutive contest and Jalen Guyton (torn ACL). As a result, wide receivers Mike Williams and Joshua Palmer, running back Austin Ekeler and tight end Gerald Everett figure to be Herbert's top targets this weekend.
Sep 29, 2022
Logs full practice
Herbert (ribs) practiced fully Thursday.
ANALYSIS
That Herbert practiced fully Thursday suggests that he's in no danger of missing Sunday's game against the Texans. Friday's injury report will reveal whether the QB heads into the weekend with a Week 4 injury designation or fully cleared to continue to play through his rib issue.
Sep 28, 2022
Limited practice Wednesday
Herbert (ribs) was limited practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com previously relayed via coach Brandon Staley that Herbert didn't suffer any setbacks in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Jaguars, but given the QB is working through fractured rib cartilage, it's not a surprise to see his practice reps limited Wednesday. Assuming no new issues with his ribs in the next couple of days, we'd expect Herbert to start this weekend's game against the Texans, though it's plausible he'll approach the contest officially listed as questionable.
Sep 26, 2022
Avoids setback in Week 3
Coach Brandon Staley confirmed Monday that Herbert (ribs) didn't suffer any setbacks in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Jaguars, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert played through the rib injury he suffered in Week 2, and while he looked far from 100 percent against Jacksonville, he emerged from the game no less healthy than when he started. Consequently, Herbert doesn't appear to be at risk of missing any game action moving forward.
Sep 25, 2022
Uneven performance in loss
Herbert (ribs) completed 25 of his 45 attempts for 297 yards and one touchdown to go along with one interception in Sunday's 38-10 loss to the Jaguars. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Consecutive turnovers to begin the second quarter put the Chargers offense into overdrive in an effort to catch up from a two-score deficit, but inefficiencies only seemed to pile up from there as the game quickly got out of control. Herbert suffered fracture rib cartilage in last Thursday's loss to the Chiefs and needed a pain-killing injection in order to be cleared for the Week 3 contest, but he mostly looked like himself albeit with noticeably less mobility outside the pocket. Expect the Chargers and Herbert to continue to manage the rib issue with a methodical practice regime for the coming weeks, although reinforcements could be on the way soon as Keenan Allen, who has missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury, should have a chance to play in Week 4.
Sep 25, 2022
Slated to start Sunday
Herbert (ribs) is active and starting Sunday's game against the Jaguars, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert, who suffered fractured rib cartilage against Kansas City in Week 2, is in uniform Sunday, but it remains to be seen how effective he'll be while playing through the issue. If the Chargers' franchise QB ends up limited at all in the contest or suffers any in-game setbacks, Chase Daniel is next up for the team's signal-caller snaps, with Easton Stick in reserve.
Sep 25, 2022
Suiting up Sunday
Herbert (ribs) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Also in uniform for the Chargers are fellow QBs Chase Daniel and Easton Stick, but given Herbert is not listed among the team's Week 3 inactives, he's a starting option for the team versus the Jaguars.
Sep 25, 2022
Week 3 status TBD
Herbert is expected to make a decision during pregame warm-ups ahead of Sunday's 4:05 ET kickoff about whether to take a pain-killing injection in his fractured rib cartilage in order to try and play against the Jaguars in Week 3, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
ANALYSIS
Both Schefter and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network suggest that the QB is pushing to play, but at this stage Herbert profiles as a true game-time decision and fantasy managers considering him in Week 3 lineups are advised to have a contingency plan in mind. If Herbert is unable to start Sunday, Chase Daniel would draw the assignment in his place.
Sep 25, 2022
Game-time decision for Week 3
Herbert (ribs), who's listed as questionable, will likely be a game-time decision ahead of Sunday's matchup against Jacksonville, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert didn't practice Friday after being limited Wednesday and Thursday, but as expected, the team will put him through a workout during pregame ahead of Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff before determining his status for Week 3. If Herbert is sidelined, Chase Daniel would draw the start in his place.
Sep 23, 2022
Questionable after missing practice Friday
Herbert (ribs) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars after sitting out Friday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Per Daniel Popper of The Athletic, Herbert indicated that the plan is for him to work out before Sunday's 4:05 ET contest before a determination is made on his Week 3 status. If Herbert is unable to start against Jacksonville, Chase Daniel would draw the assignment in his place.
Sep 22, 2022
Remains limited at practice
Herbert (ribs) remained limited at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Per Lindsey Thiry of ESPN, Herbert is considered day-to-day after suffering a fracture to his rib cartilage in last Thursday's loss to the Chiefs. While Herbert didn't throw any passes during the portion of practice open to reporters Wednesday, the QB did some throwing Thursday, with Thiry adding that the Chargers plan to closely monitor how comfortable/sore Herbert is during and after practice. At this stage, Herbert appears to be trending toward being listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, though added context regarding his Week 3 status could arrive once Friday's final injury report is submitted.
Sep 21, 2022
Does individual drills
Herbert (ribs) is feeling better this week and will be a limited practice participant Wednesday after doing some throwing Tuesday, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert played through a rib cartilage injury in the fourth quarter of a Thursday night loss to the Chiefs, throwing his third and final TD while clearly in pain. The Chargers consider him day-to-day, and he'll wear a rib protector during individual drills at Wednesday's practice.
Sep 16, 2022
Day-to-day with rib injury
Coach Brandon Staley relayed Friday that Herbert has fractured rib cartilage and is "day-to-day" at this stage, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Staley also told Popper that Herbert, who injured his ribs in Thursday's loss to Kansas City, could be able to practice at some point next week, while noting that the Chargers will reassess Herbert's situation Monday. Ultimately, Herbert's availability for the team's Sept. 25 contest could come down to pain tolerance, but the added healing time afforded by Los Angeles' recent short week could help the QB remain in the lineup Week 3.
Sep 15, 2022
Undergoes X-rays after TNF loss
Herbert (ribs) underwent X-rays following Thursday's loss to the Chiefs, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports. Herbert completed 33 of 48 passes for 334 yards, three touchdowns and one interception during the contest.
ANALYSIS
Herbert led scoring drives on the Chargers' first two offensive possessions and threw a 15-yard touchdown to Mike Williams on the first drive of the second half, giving Los Angeles a 17-7 lead. After Kansas City tied the game at 17, the Chargers started to move the ball again, but Herbert threw an interception at the goal line that was returned for a touchdown. Two drives later, Herbert took a hard shot to the left side of his ribs and had to be looked at by trainers, forcing Chase Daniel into the game for one play. While Herbert returned to action following a handoff to Sony Michel, the superstar quarterback was obviously laboring and took another blow from Kansas City's defense while throwing back-to-back incompletions -- ending the drive. Nonetheless, the Chargers got the ball back with just over three minutes left, and Herbert led a touchdown drive that was capped off by a fourth-and-seven pass to Joshua Palmer. Despite the late-game heroics, there's clearly major concern surrounding Herbert's injury, but

Surgical in win
Herbert completed 26 of 34 attempts for 279 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 24-19 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Sunday wound up being an impressively efficient outing for the Pro Bowler as Herbert completed more passes to different receivers (nine) than he had total incompletions (eight). Despite an apparent hamstring injury to Keenan Allen, the 24-year-old hardly seemed out of sync, most notably completing an impressive out-of-rhythm touchdown to Gerald Everett in the third quarter which put the Chargers up two scores. Allen's status with be worth monitoring considering the veteran is unquestionably Herbert's favorite target, but if the Chargers' offense is humming like this, it's hard to imagine the star signal caller struggling too much.

Trying to improve footwork
Herbert believes he'll benefit from a full offseason of practices, with footwork in the pocket being a key point of emphasis, Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
This is Herbert's first "normal" offseason, as his first two years in the NFL coincided with the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. There was also a coaching change between Years 1 and 2, with the Chargers bringing in HC Brandon Staley and OC Joe Lombardi last winter. Both are back for 2022, as are Herbert, RB Austin Ekeler and WRs Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. The biggest offseason loss might be TE Jared Cook, who was replaced by Gerald Everett, while the key addition could be first-round pick Zion Johnson at right guard. On paper, the Chargers have their best line in years, with 2021 first-rounder Rashawn Slater at left tackle and 2021 free-agent additions Corey Linsley and Matt Feiler joining Johnson on the interior. If the offense has a weakness, it's either tight end or right tackle, though even that might be nitpicking. In other words, Herbert is well positioned for another top-five fantasy showing among QBs.

Fourth-down heroics not enough
Herbert completed 34 of 64 pass attempts for 383 yards and three touchdowns to go along with one interception in Sunday's 35-32 overtime loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Herbert obliterated his previous career high in pass attempts (53) as the Chargers stormed back from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter to ultimately force overtime. While the second-year quarterback's critics will point to the signal caller's inability to win important games, it's hard to be anything but impressed with what Herbert's been able to do on the field and the penultimate 19-play, 83-yard drive which ultimately tied the game off an absolute laser to Mike Williams is a perfect example of the burgeoning star's capabilities. It's hard to imagine how Herbert could have outperformed his sterling rookie season, but with 5,014 passing yards and a ridiculous 41:15 touchdown to turnover ratio it's clear Herbert is easily among the best quarterbacks in the game and likely will be one of the top selected in fantasy come next season.
Jan 2, 2022
Easily secures win
Herbert tallied 22 completions on 31 attempts for 237 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 34-13 victory over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Herbert and company didn't need to do much with the Broncos defense decimated by COVID-19 as the quarterback easily knifed through a vulnerable unit. As a result, it was hardly a banner day for the second-year quarterback, but Herbert's second touchdown pass did lock up the franchise record for most touchdowns thrown in a single season. Up next is a critical divisional matchup with the Raiders that will likely determine one of the few remaining AFC playoff spots.

Racks up yardage against Houston
Herbert completed 27 of his 35 passes for 336 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 41-29 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Herbert managed an efficient 9.6 yards per attempt, though he threw multiple interceptions for the first time since Week 12. One of those picks came in the final moments with the Chargers on a drive to potentially close their deficit to one possession, but instead resulted in the Texans icing the win. In addition to his mistakes, Herbert also failed to throw for multiple scores for the first time in his last five games, and his lone touchdown came on a three-yard strike with only 38 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Given his recent form, it should be expected that Herbert will bounce back in Week 17 against Denver, though it is a relatively tough matchup.
Dec 16, 2021
Three TDs in loss
Herbert completed 22 of 38 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns to go along with one interception in Thursday's 34-28 overtime loss to the Chiefs. He also carried the ball five times for 16 yards and another score.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers offense wasn't particularly explosive, but fantasy managers certainly have to be happy with the outcome regardless. Despite Herbert tallying three total touchdowns for the fourth time in the last five games, the biggest story will be the missed opportunities as the Chargers dropped sure-fire touchdown passes on two separate first-half drives, not to mention a slightly overthrown deep pass to Keenan Allen on the team's final possession which could have dramatically altered the contest. With a playoff spot still in full view, expect the Chargers and Herbert to pull no punches in Week 16's matchup against the hapless Texans.
Dec 12, 2021
Another strong showing
Herbert completed 23 of 31 pass attempts for 275 yards and three touchdowns against the Giants on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Herbert established control from start to finish against the Giants, making productive targets out of secondary receivers Jalen Guyton (three catches for 87 yards and one touchdown on three targets) and Josh Palmer (five catches for 66 yards and one touchdown on seven targets) while lead target Keenan Allen sat due to COVID-19 protocols. Herbert's case for elite quarterback status continues to get stronger -- both in real football terms and in fantasy -- and with this game he has 300 or more yards passing in eight games this year, including five of the last six. The Chargers will face off against the Chiefs in Week 15, making for what could be the most important game on the slate. Herbert lit up the Chiefs for four touchdowns the first time around in Week 3 at Arrowhead, but the Chiefs defense has played better in recent weeks than it did to open the year.
Dec 5, 2021
Sensational first half
Herbert completed 26 of 35 passes for 317 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 41-22 win over the Bengals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers defense took over in the first quarter, setting the stage for Herbert to toss three first-half touchdowns in what appeared to be an easy win before typical Los Angeles shenanigans complicated matters somewhat. Herbert's lone interception was essentially fluky as it came on a gorgeous deep ball that simply slid off Josh Palmer's hands into the defending corner's flailing arms. The second-year quarterback now has three straight games with at least 300 yards passing and two-plus touchdowns and figures to be in line for another solid contest next week against the struggling Giants.
Nov 28, 2021
Inconsistent outing in loss
Herbert completed 28 of 44 attempts for 303 yards and two touchdowns to go along with two interceptions in Sunday's 28-13 loss to the Broncos. He also led the team in rushing with 36 yards on four carries.
ANALYSIS
Fantasy managers will be happy enough with Herbert's performance, but much of his production came in junk time as a a poorly thrown checkdown to Austin Ekeler in the fourth quarter bounced off the running back's hands and turned into a game-sealing pick six. That wasn't the only bad throw for the 23-year-old as Herbert also made an uncharacteristically bad throw with the game actually within reach to begin the fourth, missing Jared Cook on a red-zone throw which turned into an interception and helped turned the momentum in favor of the Broncos. Herbert now has thrown an interception in seven games this season and is dangerously on pace to exceed his interception figures (10) from last season.
Nov 22, 2021
Incredible performance in win
Herbert completed 30 of 41 attempts for 382 passing yards and three touchdowns to go along with one interception in Sunday's come-from-behind 41-37 win over the Steelers. He also carried the ball nine times for 90 yards.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers appeared to be cruising to an easy win before the Steelers stormed back from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take the lead, in part because of a tipped pass turned interception which represented the lone blemish on an otherwise sterling performance from Herbert. The second-year quarterback time and again stepped up into the pocket and routinely extended drives with his legs, rushing for multiple first downs including a pivotal fourth-quarter 36-yard scramble which set up what figured to be the game-sealing touchdown before the aforementioned comeback ensued. It's hard to envision a team losing contain to that extent the rest of season, but Sunday's prime-time performance is a perfect reminder of Herbert's athletic capabilities. The 23-year-old figures to have a more difficult matchup next week against the Broncos.
Nov 14, 2021
Held in check by Vikings
Herbert completed 20 of 34 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown with one interception in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Vikings. He also gained 22 rushing yards on two carries.
ANALYSIS
His two-yard TD toss to Austin Ekeler in the third quarter gave the Bolts a 17-13 lead, but the game was all Minnesota down the stretch. Herbert has not taken the big step forward in his second season some expected, but he still sports a solid 19:7 TD:INT through nine games heading into a Week 11 tilt against the Steelers.
Nov 7, 2021
Produces three TDs in win
Herbert completed 32 of 38 passes for 356 yards and two touchdowns while gaining 14 yards and a TD on five carries in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Eagles. He also threw a two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
After two shaky performances sandwiched around the Chargers' Week 7 bye, Herbert rebounded with one of his sharpest performances of the season. He leaned heavily on his tight ends in the red zone, tossing TDs to Donald Parham and Stephen Anderson and hitting Jared Cook for a two-point conversion. Herbert will take an 18:6 TD:INT, plus two rushing scores, through eight games into a Week 10 clast with the Vikings.
Nov 4, 2021
Returns to full practice
Herbert (right hand) practiced fully Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday, but his return to a full session Thursday paves the way for him to start Sunday's game against the 3-5 Eagles. He'll look to rebound from back-to-back subpar efforts in consecutive losses to the Ravens and Patriots. Prior to that, Herbert had recorded an 11:0 TD:INT ratio in his three previous games (all wins).
Nov 3, 2021
Logs limited practice
Herbert (right hand) was limited at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Daniel Popper of The Athletic indicates that the QB first injured his throwing hand when he made contact with a helmet during the Chargers' Week 3 win over the Chiefs. When asked Wednesday if Herbert was dealing with any lingering effects from that issue, coach Brandon Staley replied "no." At this stage there's nothing to suggest that the QB is in any danger of missing Sunday's game against the Eagles, but Herbert will need to practice fully by Friday in order to avoid a Week 9 injury designation.
Oct 31, 2021
Back-to-back poor outings
Herbert completed 18 of 35 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns to go along with two interceptions in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Patriots. He also carried the ball twice for nine yards.
ANALYSIS
After a sizzling four-game stretch to begin the season, Herbert and the rest of the Chargers have come back down to earth. Sunday marked the second straight game in which the second-year quarterback completed under 60 percent of his passes. Credit that somewhat to the Patriots' run-heavy approach which limited Herbert to his fewest passing attempts this season, but even when the Chargers did have the ball miscommunication with his receivers was an issue. Most notably, Herbert sailed a pass intended for tight end Jared Cook late in the fourth quarter which turned into a game-sealing pick six and while he was able to lead a junk-time touchdown the ensuing drive, the aforementioned interception was a perfect encapsulation of the dreary day. Things should get a little easier next week against an inconsistent Eagles defense.
Oct 17, 2021
Flops in Baltimore
Herbert completed 22 of 39 passes for 195 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 34-6 loss to the Ravens. He added 12 yards on two rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Herbert started 8-for-17 for 71 yards and an interception through five drives as the Chargers fell behind 17-0, but he came alive with a one-yard touchdown to Jared Cook on the following possession. That momentum was short-lived, however, as Baltimore answered with a third-quarter touchdown, followed by a Herbert incompletion on 4th-and-1 in his own territory that all but decided the result with more than a quarter to play. Considering the second-year signal-caller had previously thrown for at least 300 yards or three-plus touchdowns in every game this season, this dud can be written off as a one-game blip against an elite defense. Expect Herbert to bounce back once Los Angeles comes out of its Week 7 bye.
Oct 5, 2021
Another impressive outing
Herbert completed 25 of 38 passes for 222 yards and three touchdowns in Monday night's 28-14 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Herbert started with a couple of touchdowns to his tight ends before hitting tailback Austin Ekeler on a 14-yard score to end the first half. He then helped the Chargers maintain their lead after halftime, playing turnover-free ball for the second straight game. With seven TDs over that span to go with a couple of key divisional wins, Herbert has been one of the standout performers league-wide thus far. The second-year signal-caller will strive to keep his strong play going in another top-heavy tussle Week 5 versus the Browns.
Sep 30, 2021
Not on injury report
Herbert is not listed on the Chargers' Week 4 injury report.
ANALYSIS
Herbert had his throwing hand wrapped and iced before he left Arrowhead Stadium in the wake of the Chargers' 30-24 win over Kansas City in Week 3. At the time, the issue was downplayed, and his absence from Thursday's injury report puts him firmly in line to start Monday night's home game against the 3-0 Raiders.
Sep 27, 2021
Hurts hand in heroic win
Herbert had his throwing hand wrapped and iced before he left Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, but he's expected to be okay, NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert played every snap in Sunday's 30-24 win over Kansas City, including a four-yard, game-winning TD pass to Mike Williams on the final play of the afternoon for the Chargers offense. Williams' fifth-year breakout has aided the second-year QB's average of 318.7 passing yards per game, though Herbert has perhaps been a bit disappointing in fantasy due to turnovers (four) and a lack of rushing production (27 yards, zero TDs). In any case, he'll have an extra day to recover from his hand injury before the Chargers host the Raiders on Monday in Week 4.
Sep 26, 2021
Masterful in signature win
Herbert completed 26 of 38 passes for 281 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's 30-24 win over the Chiefs. He also registered 16 yards on four carries.
ANALYSIS
The Chargers benefitted from a turnover-prone Chiefs offense as Herbert and company scored 20 points off miscues. The second-year quarterback has picked up right where he left off following his Rookie of the Year campaign throwing for 951 yards and a sterling 6:3 TD:INT ratio through three contests, benefitting significantly from a new-look offense that seems content moving the ball through the air (just 21 designed runs Sunday). The emergence of Mike Williams (7-122-2 in Sunday's win) as a co-No. 1 wideout opposite Keenan Allen has been a revelation and given Herbert a key red-zone target that he simply didn't have last season. At this point, Herbert might simply be matchup proof in terms of fantasy and certainly should be primed for another great outing next week against the vulnerable Raiders defense.
Sep 19, 2021
Flags ruin big outing
Herbert completed 31 of 41 attempts for 338 yards and one touchdown to go along with two interceptions in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Cowboys. He also carried the ball four times for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
The second-year signal caller once again attempted 40-plus passes, but the Dallas defense did a good job limiting Herbert from connecting on any big plays. The star QB once again spread the ball around to his pass catchers, completing receptions to nine different targets. The two interceptions were unpredictably poor throws from the 23-year-old as a forced pass to Keenan Allen on the opening drive coupled with an errant pass late in third at the goal line directly crushed two scoring opportunities. That wasn't the only thing holding back a gigantic fantasy day, however. A 36-yard touchdown pass on a well designed play to tight end Donald Parham was called back due to holding, a possession that then ended with the aforementioned interception at the goal line. An egregiously poor call on the team's final possession also negated what would have been the go-ahead touchdown pass to Jared Cook, forcing the team to settle for a field goal. Herbert's passing volume on a week-to-week base almost guarantees a safe fant
Sep 12, 2021
Nearly sterling season debut
Herbert completed 31 of 47 passes for 337 yards and a touchdown to go along with an interception in Sunday's 20-16 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was noticeably comfortable in his first game under offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi's system, routinely sitting back in the pocket and finding open receivers. By the end of the first half, the second-year signal caller had completed passes to seven different players and finished the game with at least a dozen completions over 15-plus yards. If not for a couple of bad drops by Mike Williams in the third quarter and an egregious one by Keenan Allen early in the first half, the 23-year-old likely could have had more opportunities at finding paydirt, but an impressive yardage total will have to be a small consolation for fantasy managers. Herbert figures to be primed for another solid day next week against the Cowboys.

Won't play in preseason
Herbert is not in line to see any preseason action, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Brandon Staley will elect to play it safe with his young franchise QB, with an eye toward having Herbert healthy and fresh for Week 1 action. As a result, Chase Daniel, Easton Stick and KJ Costello are slated to share the team's preseason signal-caller reps.
Jul 1, 2021
Centerpiece of new offense
Chargers head coach Brandon Staley wants the offense to "run through Herbert", according to Hayley Elwood of the team's official website.
ANALYSIS
Formerly the Rams' defensive coordinator, Staley figures to primarily focus on the other side of the ball, yet clearly understands that Herbert is his most important player by a mile. The fifth overall pick from the 2020 draft set an NFL rookie record with 31 passing touchdowns, also adding five additional scores (and 234 more yards) on the ground. Herbert will again have Keenan Allen, Mike Williams and RB Austin Ekeler at his disposal this season, while Jared Cook is replacing Hunter Henry (Patriots) as the top tight end. Perhaps most important, the Chargers added three new starters for the offensive line, signing C Corey Linsley and LG Matt Feiler before using a first-round pick on Northwestern LT Rashawn Slater. The unit may need some time to gel, but it's the best collection of blocking talent the Chargers have put together in years. Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi couldn't have asked for a better situation, getting his second shot as an OC after a respectable stint with the Lions in 2014-15.
Jan 3, 2021
Caps off record-setting rookie year
Herbert completed 22 of 31 pass attempts for 302 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 38-21 win over the Chiefs. He also carried the ball six times for nine yards and an additional score.
ANALYSIS
Herbert ends the season with NFL rookie records for most passing touchdowns (31), most total touchdowns (36), most completions (396), most 300-yard games (eight), most games with multiple passing touchdowns (10) and was 39 yards shy of setting the single-season record for most passing yards by a rookie. Those accolades become all the more impressive when considering the 22-year-old only started 15 games, losing out the training-camp battle to veteran Tyrod Taylor before an unfortunate medical accident pressed the rookie into action. The main question to be answered in 2021 will be if Herbert can continue this type of production with a new coordinator and head coach, or if the Chargers will opt to bring back Anthony Lynn for one more season despite numerous strategical gaffes during his tenure in that role. Whatever does end up happening on the coaching side of things, it's clear Herbert has cemented himself as one of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL.
Dec 27, 2020
Sets rookie TD record
Herbert completed 21 of 33 passes for 253 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 19-16 win over the Broncos. He added 26 rushing yards on four carries.
ANALYSIS
His second-quarter toss to Austin Ekeler for a nine-yard TD made history, as Herbert broke Baker Mayfield's rookie record for touchdown passes with his 28th of the season. Herbert may not be done re-writing the NFL's record book, either -- he needs just six more completions to break Carson Wentz's rookie record of 379, and 341 passing yards to break Andrew Luck's rookie record in that category. The Chargers phenom will take aim at both marks in Week 17's road clash with a Kansas City team that could be resting key personnel after clinching the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
Dec 18, 2020
Plays here again in win
Herbert completed 22 of 32 passes for 314 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Chargers' 30-27 overtime win over the Raiders on Thursday night. He also rushed four times for 14 yards and a game-winning score and committed a fumble on the play prior that was recovered by fullback Gabe Nabers.
ANALYSIS
The rookie had been in somewhat of a yardage slump by his lofty standards, as he'd fallen short of the 300-yard mark in two straight games after eclipsing the figure in six of his first 10 career contests. However, a back-and-forth affair that culminated in an extra period offered Herbert just enough opportunity to get back to a hefty tally through the air Thursday, with Herbert getting over 300 on his final completion of the game, a 53-yarder to Jalen Guyton that got the Chargers down to Las Vegas' two-yard line. The Oregon product subsequently got the ball just over the goal line on second effort on third down, sealing the overtime victory for Los Angeles. Herbert has paid off handsomely in both a real-world and fantasy sense during a prolific first season as a pro. and he'll look to continue finishing the season on a strong note against the Broncos in a Week 16 matchup in Sunday, Nov. 27.
Dec 13, 2020
Leads last-second win
Herbert completed 36 of 44 attempts for 243 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
An injury to Mike Williams (back) early in the contest forced the Chargers to turn their offense into a dink and dunk system to little success as Austin Ekeler and Keenan Allen absorbed 20 targets between the two players. Herbert appeared to throw a back-breaking interception with 53 seconds left in the contest and the Chargers near the midfield mark, but his defense luckily came up with a pick just three plays later to set up the rookie's first game-winning drive of his career. Despite a bit of an underwhelming performance considering the matchup, Herbert should have plenty of success next week against a dismal Raiders pass defense.
Dec 6, 2020
Struggles in loss to Patriots
Herbert completed 26 of 53 pass attempts for 209 yards and two interceptions during Sunday's 45-0 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Herbert completed less than half of his passes as he averaged a dismal 3.9 yards per attempt. He threw interceptions on back-to-back drives to start the third quarter with his team down big and failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time in his young career. Herbert had an excellent 8:2 TD:INT over his previous four games and should bounce back next Sunday in an inviting matchup with the Falcons.
Nov 29, 2020
Inefficient in loss
Herbert converted 31 of his 52 pass attempts for 316 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 27-17 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was able to benefit from a junk-time drive that nearly yielded a touchdown despite horrendous clock management. The end result saw the rookie post his sixth game with at least 300 passing yards and a touchdown, but the gaudy yardage total masked what was an overall lackluster effort from the Chargers offense. The rookie relied heavily on the newly healthy Austin Ekeler (hamstring) as opposed to Keenan Allen or Mike Williams, but that might have been by design thanks to the Bills' aggressive secondary. It won't get much easier next week when the Chargers host a suddenly lively Patriots defense.
Nov 22, 2020
Produces three TDs vs. Jets
Herbert completed 37 of 49 pass attempts for 366 yards and three touchdowns while adding 11 yards on three rushing attempts during Sunday's 36-28 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Herbert completed 76 percent of his attempts and completed passes to eight different receivers en route to the highest yardage total of his young career. He completed touchdown passes to Mike Williams, Hunter Henry and Keenan Allen, making him the first rookie in NFL history with multiple touchdown tosses in seven straight games. Herbert is quickly becoming an elite fantasy option on a weekly basis and is capable of putting up big numbers despite a tricky cross-country trip to Buffalo coming up next Sunday.
Nov 15, 2020
Less than stellar in loss
Herbert connected on 20 of 32 attempts for 187 yards and two touchdowns while throwing one pick in Sunday's 29-21 loss to the Dolphins. He also added 10 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was able to pile on some junk-time production late, but it was an overall mundane contest in the battle of rookie QBs for Herbert. A bevy of inaccurate throws stalled the Chargers' offense all game long, but the final nail in the coffin came when Herbert stared down his intended target early in the fourth quarter and threw a drive-ending interception, setting up the Dolphins for an easy touchdown to take a two-score lead. A fairly run-oriented approach from both sides kept the passing opportunities in check, but it was still surprising to see Keenan Allen and Mike Williams fail to get involved, with the latter registering his first reception early in the second half. At the very least, the Chargers can look forward to a matchup against the hapless Jets next week.
Nov 8, 2020
Comeback attempt falls short
Herbert completed 28 of 42 passes for 326 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 31-26 loss to the Raiders. He also carried the ball five times for 24 yards.
ANALYSIS
It was another fantastic fantasy performance for the young quarterback, but it's certainly a disappointing outcome overall considering the Chargers had two attempts to score the game-winning touchdown inside the 10 yard line only to come away empty in yet another tragically disappointing loss. Keenan Allen continues to build a rapport with Herbert, but it's especially encouraging to see the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft continue to target Mike Williams as the duo connected on five of the seven targets for 81 yards. It's hard to see Herbert slowing down considering Week 10 will see the 22-year-old square off against the Dolphins.
Nov 6, 2020
Healthy for Sunday
Coach Anthony Lynn downplayed Herbert's appearance on the injury report this week, saying the quarterback is merely dealing with normal soreness, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was listed with a right shoulder injury Thursday and Friday, logging full practices both days. The Chargers aren't concerned, so he should be good to go this Sunday against a Raiders defense that's given up the ninth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Herbert is averaging 303.3 passing yards and 2.8 total TDs per game, consistently putting up good numbers.
Nov 1, 2020
Makes key mistake in loss
Herbert completed 29 of 43 pass attempts for 278 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Week 8 against Denver. He added three rush attempts for 21 yards.
ANALYSIS
Herbert continued to show the ability to move the Chargers' offense effectively, accounting for three or more touchdowns in his fourth consecutive start. He's also topped 275 yards through the air in five of his first six starts as a professional. Herbert's effort was highlighted by a number of deep passes to Mike Williams, including connections of 26, 24 and 19 yards. However, Herbert also made a few errors -- it was his first multi-interception game -- including an interception late in the third quarter that began a rally by the Broncos. Inconsistencies should be expected of any rookie, and Herbert has still been very strong overall by throwing for 15 touchdowns and five interceptions across his first six games in the NFL. He'll look to keep things going in Week 9 against Oakland.

Explosive effort earns first win
Herbert completed 27 of 43 pass attempts for 347 yards and three touchdowns during Sunday's 30-29 win over the Jaguars. He also had nine carries for 66 yards and a score.
ANALYSIS
Herbert had arguably the sloppiest first half of his young career Sunday, but he rallied back to notch a season-best mark in terms of passing yards while logging his second straight game with four scores. He also showcased his athleticism on the ground, setting more career-high tallies in terms of both rushing yards and carries. Through five starts, Herbert now boasts a 12:3 TD:INT ratio through the air, an exceptional mark that's come in large part due to his chemistry with favorite target Keenan Allen, who had 10 catches for 125 yards on 13 targets Sunday. Though Herbert has shown a willingness to hand Allen double-digit targets on a weekly basis, he's also proven a cerebral enough passer to exploit whatever opposing defenses give him. While the Jaguars did a solid job of keeping Mike Williams and Hunter Henry covered, Herbert responded by completing touchdown passes to backup tight ends Virgil Green (ankle) and Donald Parham, in addition to finding Jalen Guyton for a 70-yard score. Herbert will get a tough
Oct 13, 2020
Throws four TDs in loss
Herbert completed 20 of 34 passes for 264 yards and four touchdowns in Monday night's 30-27 overtime loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Herbert showed exactly why the Chargers named him their starter going forward, flashing a combination of athleticism and playmaking in the passing game. The rookie began by finding Keenan Allen on a 17-yard score, and even though his top target subsequently exited with a back injury, Herbert still tossed three touchdowns by halftime. While that tally included scores from just three and four yards, Herbert hit Mike Williams with a 64-yard bomb on his fourth score. That play put Los Angeles in a position to win late, and even after the Saints tied the score, Herbert again found Williams to set up a would-be winning field goal as time expired. Despite that effort missing and Herbert ultimately enduring a fourth straight loss, he can again be proud of his performance, as he's now thrown seven touchdowns versus just one interception in his last two outings. Whether he'll have Allen available or not, such strong form should have Herbert's stock soaring ahead of his Week 6 matchup at home versus the winless Jets.

Will remain starter
Herbert has been named the Chargers' starting QB going forward, Gilbert Manzano of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
The decision, which comes in advance of Monday night's game against the Saints, was confirmed Thursday by coach Anthony Lynn, who had originally indicated that previous starter Tyrod Taylor (ribs/chest) wouldn't lose his job due to an injury. Herbert's impressive play while filling in for Taylor forced Lynn's hand, however, and the impressive rookie will now assume the position the Chargers had in mind for him when they selected him sixth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Another strong showing in loss
Herbert completed 20 of 25 passes for 291 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Chargers' 38-31 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. He also rushed five times for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
The rookie nearly eclipsed the 300-yard mark for the third time in as many starts to open his career, with a pretty 72-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Guyton in the fourth quarter helping him come tantalizingly close. While he ultimately fell short, Herbert once again looked very comfortable against a solid defense, and he was able to thrive most of the afternoon despite being without key deep threat Mike Williams (hamstring). Herbert's one interception was especially ill-timed, however, as it came with 2:34 remaining at the Buccaneers' 48-yard line and the Chargers down only seven. It's uncertain whether Tyrod Taylor (ribs/lung) will be ready for a Week 5 Monday night road battle against the Saints, but Herbert will be difficult to unseat from the top job considering how well he's played.

Can't quite complete comeback
Herbert completed 35 of 49 passes for 330 yards and a touchdown along with an interception in the 21-16 loss Sunday to the Panthers. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was strip sacked on the team's second possession setting up what was an uphill battle all afternoon for the rookie. Herbert looked poised throughout most of the contest, and he really rebounded from an erratic first half to help the Chargers make a last ditch come-from-behind drive that likely should have worked if Austin Ekeler hadn't botched the hook-and-ladder attempt which would have scored the game-winning touchdown. Keenan Allen and Hunter Henry were Herbert's sole focus in the middle of the field as the duo accounted for 30 of his 49 attempts, but Austin Ekeler also amounted to a built in confidence booster with a number of designed screens and flare outs helping pile up the yardage. It seems likely Herbert will start once again in Week 4 as ESPN's Adam Schefter reported earlier in the day Tyrod Taylor (chest) likely won't gain clearance to play after his lung was punctured from a pain-killing injection last week.

Week 3 start confirmed
Coach Anthony Lynn has confirmed that Herbert will start Sunday's game against the Panthers,Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This was expected, with Taylor having suffered a punctured lung prior to Week 2's kickoff. Though Lynn notes that the Chargers haven't considered placing Taylor on IR, the team won't take any chances with the veteran signal-caller, given that he's understandably not 100 percent. Taylor will presumably be officially ruled out by the end of the week, while Herbert will have an opportunity to build off his strong NFL debut in Week 1's overtime loss to the Chiefs, versus an 0-2 Carolina squad that will be missing star running back Christian McCaffrey (ankle).

Expected to draw Week 3 start
Herbert is expected to start Sunday's game against the Panthers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, doctors have advised Tyrod Taylor not to play "indefinitely" due to a punctured lung that he suffered prior to Week 2's kickoff. Though Herbert filled in admirably in this past Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to the Chiefs, coach Anthony Lynn previously indicated that Taylor wouldn't lose his starting job to an injury, and there was some hope he'd return in Week 3. Wednesday's news, however, sets the stage for Herbert to get another start, at a minimum, with some advance warning for the assignment this time around.

May start again Week 3
Herbert could be in store for a second straight start Week 3 against the Panthers with the Chargers listing incumbent Tyrod Taylor (rib) as week-to-week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Herbert was informed just moments before kickoff in Sunday's game against the Chiefs that he would be starting when Taylor was scratched and sent to the hospital after experiencing an adverse reaction to an pregame injection he took to address a lingering rib injury, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. Considering the circumstances, Herbert performed impressively, completing 22 of his 33 pass attempts for 311 yards, one touchdown and an interception to go with 18 yards and another score on the ground in the Chargers' 23-20 loss in overtime. Despite the rookie first-round pick's solid showing, head coach Anthony Lynn stated after the game that Taylor would retain the starting job if "he's 100 percent ready to go," per Jim Trotter of NFL.com. With that in mind, Taylor's activity in practice this week will bear watching, as Herbert would presumably earn another start if the Chargers aren't convinced Taylor is completely healthy. A favorable matchup looms this weekend, as the Panthers have surrendered 30-p

Impresses in NFL debut
Herbert completed 22 of 33 passes for 311 yards with a touchdown and an interception while rushing for 18 yards and a TD on four carries in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Thrust into the starting lineup ahead of schedule when Tyrod Taylor reported chest pains during pregame warmups and had to be sent to the hospital, Herbert very nearly led the Chargers to an upset of the reigning champs. The sixth overall pick in this year's draft looked poised in leading his team to a 14-6 lead at halftime, before Patrick Mahomes launched his inevitable comeback. Even if Taylor's health issue isn't serious, it's hard to imagine the Bolts turning back to him under center with their future franchise QB looking this good in his debut. If Herbert does get another start in Week 3, he could put up big numbers at home against a Panthers defense that's coughed up 65 points through its first two games.

Surprise Week 2 starter
Herbert started Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Tom Krasovic of The San Diego Union-Tribunereports.
ANALYSIS
This surprising development is the result of Tyrod Taylor being listed as questionable by the Chargers with a chest injury. It remains to be seen if Taylor is able to enter the game at any point, but Herbert -- the No. 6 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft -- will have a chance to helm his team's offense in the meantime.

Little playing time set for 2020
Herbert is not expected to start many games this season, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Popper alluded to a clip of Herbert acknowledging a bit of a learning curve during a segment on HBO's Hard Knocks, suggesting Tyrod Taylor is more or less slated to start every game this season thanks to the "catching up" the rookie still needs to do. That sentiment has essentially been accepted as fact throughout most of the Chargers training camp, although it's still worth noting Herbert's athletic tools pose significantly more upside for the offense if he's able to string together the knowledge and terminology that comes with being an NFL quarterback. If the Chargers struggle through an early season chalk full with lesser opponents, it's entirely possible the team may want to see what it has in its 2020 first-round pick, but that almost certainly won't occur unless Los Angeles has already accepted the idea of a lost year.

Inks rookie deal
Herbert signed his rookie contract with the Chargers on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The No. 6 overall pick of the 2020 NFL Draft will receive $26.6 million fully guaranteed over four seasons, plus a fifth-year option. Tyrod Taylor is expected to start with the departure of longtime-Charger Philip Rivers, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in an offseason of minimal team activities that will make it more difficult for rookies to acclimate. Still, Herbert could take the reins at some point in 2020 if Taylor struggles or gets injured.
