Logs sack in loss
Benton logged seven tackles (three solo) in Pittsburgh's loss to the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Benton recorded one of the Steelers' four sacks of Justin Herbert during the loss. After getting off to a slow start this season, the 2023 second-round pick has been more productive as of late, logging 17 tackles (10 solo), including 3.0 sacks, across his last four appearances.

Back to full health
Benton (upper body) wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report.
ANALYSIS
The third-year defensive lineman dealt with an upper-body issue late last month, but Benton appears to be past it and should be good to go for Sunday's Week 1 opener against the Jets. Benton appeared in all 17 regular-season games last season, making 14 starts, and logged 36 tackles (16 solo), including 1.0 sacks, six pass breakups, including one interception, and one fumble recovery.

Dealing with upper-body issue
Benton is dealing with an upper-body injury, placing some doubt on his availability for Week 1, Chris Halicke of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Benton appears to have picked up an upper-body injury during Thursday's 19-10 preseason win over the Panthers. He played nine defensive snaps in the contest, failing to record any stats. Rookie Derrick Harmon (knee) also suffered an injury in the game, so the Steelers could be without two interior defensive lineman in their regular-season opener Sept. 7 versus the Jets.

Logs more snaps in second season
Benton finished the 2024 regular season with 36 tackles (16 solo), including 1.0 sacks, along with six defensed passes (one of which was an interception) and one fumble recovery over 17 contests.
ANALYSIS
Benton has yet to miss a game in his two-year NFL career. He was on the field more often this season than in his rookie campaign -- last year, he logged over 50 percent of Pittsburgh's defensive snaps four times, while this season that number shot up to 13. However, Benton produced the exact same number of tackles and sacks, though he did boost his tally of pass defenses by four. His numbers aren't appealing in IDP leagues, but Benton has shown promise in his first two pro seasons and should maintain a steady role along Pittsburgh's defensive line in the third year of his rookie contract next season.

Picks off pass in win
Benton recorded a tackle and an interception in Sunday's 27-14 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Perhaps not surprisingly, it was the nose tackle's first interception of his two-year career. Benton does have six pass breakups in 2024 to go along with 23 tackles (12 solo).

Will play against Bengals
Benton (hip) does not have an injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Bengals, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Benton popped up on Thursday's injury report as a limited practice participant due to a hip injury, but it doesn't appear to be bothering him any more as he was able to log a full practice Friday. The second-year defensive tackle out of Wisconsin has logged 21 tackles (11 solo), five pass defenses and one fumble recovery across 11 regular-season games.

Managing hip issue
Benton was a limited participant in Thursday's practice due to a hip injury, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benton didn't appear on Wednesday's estimated practice report, so it's unclear when the hip issue sprung up. The defensive tackle's participation level in Friday's practice should provide clearer insight about whether he's at risk of missing Sunday's Week 13 game against the Bengals. Benton hasn't yet missed a contest this season and has tallied 21 tackles over 11 games.

Plays 15 snaps
Benton (eye) tallied two tackles, including half a sack, in Saturday's 9-3 preseason loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Benton suffered an eye injury during the Steelers' preseason opener, but he was a starter for Saturday's matchup. He played 15 defensive snaps and was relatively productive during his time on the field, and he should be fully healthy moving forward.

Will not return
Benton will not return to Friday's preseason tilt with the Texans due to an eye injury, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The injury does not look serious according to Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com. Still, Pittsburgh will unsurprisingly err on the side of caution for an exhibition contest. The nose tackle is expected to start in the trenches alongside Larry Ogunjobi and Cameron Heyward this season.

Back in full pads Tuesday
Benton (ankle) was in full pads for Tuesday's practice, Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot reports.
ANALYSIS
Benton exited the preseason opener with an ankle injury last Friday, but it sounds like he avoided anything serious. The second-round rookie, selected 49th overall, is expected to serve as the Steelers' starting nose tackle.

Leaves with ankle injury
Benton is out for the remainder of Friday's preseason opener in Tampa Bay due to an ankle injury, Alan Saunders of PittsburghSportsNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Benton, a second-round selection in the offseason, tallied three tackles (two solo) prior to sustaining the injury. There is no word yet on the severity of the issue. When healthy, Benton is expected to start at nose tackle.

Steel City bound
The Steelers selected Benton in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 49th overall.
ANALYSIS
Pittsburgh is addressing the trenches on both sides early in this draft. After bringing Broderick Jones into the fold in the first round, the Steelers nabbed Benton with their second pick in the second round. Benton was a late bloomer at Wisconsin who started his last two seasons and topped out with 4.5 sacks and 10 total tackles for loss as a senior. He impressed at the Senior Bowl and cemented his stock as one of the best interior defensive linemen in the class. The 309-pounder should be able to beat out Breiden Fehoko for the starting job at nose tackle.
