Keep up with the latest injuries from the Steelers vs Bears game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 3, 2025
Officially signs with Pittsburgh
The Steelers signed Valdes-Scantling to their practice squad Monday, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling is officially headed to Pittsburgh after having worked out with the team last week. The 31-year-old could provide extra depth at receiver if he's elevated for a game, as the Steelers lack proven talent at the position behind DK Metcalf.
Oct 28, 2025
Deal with Pittsburgh on hold
The Steelers are expected to sign Valdes-Scantling following their Week 9 clash against the Colts, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers hosted Valdes-Scantling for a workout Monday, and while the two signs are working towards a deal, it doesn't appear that will be done prior to Sunday's contest against Indianapolis. The move will reunite Valdes-Scantling with quarterback Aaron Rodgers and add depth to a Steelers wide receiver corps that could be without Scotty Miller (finger) for an extended period time.
Oct 27, 2025
Expected to join Pittsburgh
The Steelers intend to sign Valdes-Scantling (calf) after the wide receiver participated in a tryout Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling reached an injury settlement with the 49ers on Oct. 15, and it appears the veteran wideout has recovered from his calf injury as he's set to sign with the Steelers. His addition to Pittsburgh's pass-catching corps would reunite him with Aaron Rodgers, with the duo playing together in Green Bay from 2018 to 2021. Over that span, Valdes-Scantling recorded 123 catches (on 247 targets) for 2,153 yards and 13 touchdowns across 59 regular-season games (39 starts).
Oct 18, 2025
Cut loose by SF
Valdes-Scantling (calf) was released from injured reserve with an injury settlement Saturday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was active for five of San Francisco's first six games of the season, but he landed on injured reserve Friday. It's unclear how long the calf injury will keep him sidelined, but Valdes-Scantling will be free to sign with any team when healthy. He has four receptions on eight targets for 40 yards so far on the campaign.
Oct 17, 2025
Moved to IR
Valdes-Scantling (calf) was placed on injured reserve Friday.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling is the latest 49ers wide receiver to get bitten by the injury bug, and his absence will last at least four weeks after his placement on IR. The veteran wideout's first opportunity to return to game action will come Nov. 16 at Arizona.
Oct 16, 2025
Suffers calf injury
Valdes-Scantling missed Thursday's practice due to a calf injury, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
This is a mid-week addition to the 49ers' injury report, and Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that Valdes-Scantling is expected to be out for a few weeks, which is yet another blow to the receiving corps. All of Jauan Jennings (ankle/rib/shoulder, LP), Ricky Pearsall (knee, DNP), Skyy Moore (ankle, LP) and Jordan Watkins (calf, LP) are dealing with healthy concerns, leaving Kendrick Bourne and Demarcus Robinson as the only health options at the position on the active roster.
Oct 13, 2025
Grabs two receptions Sunday
Valdes-Scantling had two receptions on three targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 30-19 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling wound up playing 42 snaps (61 percent) on offense while serving as the No. 3 receiver against Tampa Bay. The 30-year-old more than doubled his entire season production with Sunday's output, which highlights his lack of usage through six weeks. Valdes-Scantling will look to stay involved against the Falcons next Sunday, but there is little to see from a fantasy perspective.
Sep 28, 2025
Not playing Week 4
Valdes-Scantling (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling saw the field in each of the 49ers' first three games of the season. However, the veteran wide receiver will be in street clothes for Sunday's contest due to the return of Demarcus Robinson from suspension. Valdes-Scantling's next chance to play will be Thursday against the Rams.
Sep 22, 2025
First reception with SF
Valdes-Scantling had one reception for nine yards in Sunday's 16-15 win over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling finally recorded his first reception as a member of the 49ers after posting bagels in his first two appearances. The 30-year-old was on the field for 17 snaps (26 percent) and finished behind Ricky Pearsall, Kendrick Bourne and Skyy Moore in terms of playing time and production. With San Francisco expecting reinforcements to the receiver room in Week 4, Valdes-Scantling may find his marginal role on offense reduced further.
Sep 15, 2025
Logs nine snaps on offense
Valdes-Scantling failed to bring in his only target in Sunday's 26-21 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was a non-factor on offense for the second consecutive week. The veteran wideout saw his snap count drop to nine (13 percent) following the addition of WR Kendrick Bourne (49 percent). Valdes-Scantling carries no fantasy value heading into a Week 3 matchup against the Cardinals.
Sep 8, 2025
Plays role of decoy Sunday
Valdes-Scantling logged 27 snaps on offense and did not receive a target in Sunday's 17-13 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was promoted from the 49ers' practice squad ahead of a Week 1 matchup against his former club. The 30-year-old wound up finishing fourth in WR snap counts (36 percent), but he was only used as a downfield decoy after receiving no actual targets. Valdes-Scantling is always a threat to break off a big play, but unpredictable usage keeps him off the fantasy radar against the Saints in Week 2.
Sep 2, 2025
Signed to active roster
The 49ers signed Valdes-Scantling to the active roster from the practice squad Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
San Francisco initially inked Valdes-Scantling to the practice squad after he was let go by Seattle amid league-wide roster cuts, but the veteran speedster now joins the 53-man roster in advance of Sunday's road game against his recent team, the Seahawks. It's possible that the 49ers were wary of Valdes-Scantling being poached by another team, were he kept on the practice squad. In any case, now on the active roster, Valdes-Scantling will join Skyy Moore and Jordan Watkins (ankle) as a depth option at wide receiver behind Jauan Jennings (calf) and Ricky Pearsall for Week 1. The team cut Russell Gage on Tuesday.
Aug 28, 2025
Signs to practice squad, not roster
The 49ers have signed Valdes-Scantling to the practice squad, not the 53-man roster, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling could still contribute for San Francisco as early as Week 1 versus the Seahawks, given the team will be without wideouts Brandon Aiyuk (knee/PUP), Demarcus Robinson (suspension) and Jacob Cowing (hamstring/IR), and Jauan Jennings (calf) and Jordan Watkins (ankle) both also appear uncertain. As a member of the practice squad, however, Valdes-Scantling will be eligible to be elevated for a maximum of three games before the 49ers are forced to decide whether to add him to the 53-man roster. Last season, Valdes-Scantling managed to step in and contribute for the Saints with minimal prep time after he was released by the Bills.
Aug 27, 2025
Staying in NFC West with SF
Valdes-Scantling is signing with the 49ers, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Released by Seattle a day earlier, Valdes-Scantling will join one of the few teams that can offer him a chance at Week 1 snaps. San Francisco wideouts Brandon Aiyuk (knee), Demarcus Robinson (suspension) and Jacob Cowing (hamstring) are already ruled out for Week 1, while Jauan Jennings (calf/contract) and Jordan Watkins (ankle) are uncertain. Ricky Pearsall is locked in as one starter, but everything else is up in the air, potentially allowing Valdes-Scantling to come in and contribute without much prep time the way the did in New Orleans after the Bills released him last year.
Aug 26, 2025
Released by Seattle
The Seahawks released Valdes-Scantling on Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was in the thick of it for the Seahawks' WR3 gig behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp, but it appears as if rookie Tory Horton (ankle) has won the job. It's also possible the Seahawks are cutting MVS with the intention of bringing him back once rosters become more settled over the next week.
Aug 24, 2025
Snares three passes
Valdes-Scantling caught all three targets for 33 yards in Saturday's 20-7 preseason loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks sat their starters, so it was interesting to see Valdes-Scantling play most of the first half, although the team likely wanted rookie QB Jalen Milroe to have some stability while playing the full game. These were Valdes-Scantling's first catches of the preseason. He and Tory Horton (ankle) are competing for the No. 3 role behind Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp.
Aug 18, 2025
No catches during preseason so far
Valdes-Scantling wasn't targeted in Friday's 33-16 preseason win over the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Although rookie fifth-round pick Tory Horton (ankle) has been running ahead of Valdes-Scantling during practices, it was the veteran who took the field with starting quarterback Sam Darnold to begin Friday's exhibition contest. Valdes-Scantling's main selling point is his blazing speed, but Horton ran a 4.41 40-yard dash and will continue to push for the No. 3 job. There's probably utility for both players in this offense. On a weekly basis, Valdes-Scantling's fantasy production will be almost impossible to depend on.
Mar 12, 2025
Finds opportunistic landing spot
Valdes-Scantling agreed to terms Wednesday on a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million with the Seahawks, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling reunites with offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak in Seattle, joining a wide receiver depth chart that features little in the way of proven options other than Jaxon Smith-Njigba. New Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold will be forced to content with an offense that's lost two 2024 starters at wideout, with DK Metcalf now in Pittsburgh and Tyler Lockett a free agent, giving Valdes-Scantling a potential path to key utilization as a deep threat. He had 17 catches (35 targets) for 385 yards and four scores across eight regular-season appearances with New Orleans in 2024.
Jan 5, 2025
Three catches to close out season
Valdes-Scantling brought in three of eight targets for 33 yards in the Saints' 27-19 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The veteran wideout led the Saints in targets and finished a distant second in receiving yards to tight end Juwan Johnson. Valdes-Scantling was a relatively productive mid-season addition for New Orleans that made good use of the opportunity created by multiple injuries in the pass-catching corps, posting a 16-380-4 line over his last six games while offering a downfield dimension that Chris Olave (concussion) typically provided. Valdes-Scantling will be an unrestricted free agent come the new league year in March, and it remains to be seen if New Orleans will be interested in keeping him aboard for 2025 and beyond.
Jan 2, 2025
Full practice Thursday
Valdes-Scantling (chest) practiced fully Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out Week 16 at Green Bay due to a chest injury and an illness, Valdes-Scantling was able to suit up this past Sunday versus the Raiders, but his 78 percent snap share didn't amount to much in the box score (no catches on two targets). He since has followed up a limited session Wednesday with full participation one day later, thereby paving the way for active status Sunday at Tampa Bay. With no practice reps to speak of for No. 1 QB Derek Carr (left hand) this week, Valdes-Scantling appears as if he'll be on the receiving end of passes from rookie Spencer Rattler yet again.
Jan 1, 2025
Limited at practice Wednesday
Valdes-Scantling (chest) was limited in practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling sat out Week 16 at Green Bay due to an illness and a chest issue but was able to suit up this past Sunday versus the Raiders, playing 78 percent of the offensive snaps. He also didn't haul in either of his two targets, and while interim coach Darren Rizzi relayed to Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune afterward that Valdes-Scantling picked up a back injury, he said one day later that the wide receiver checked out OK, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. In the end, the aforementioned chest injury continues to plague Valdes-Scantling as the Saints begin Week 18 prep.
Dec 30, 2024
Fine after injury scare
Valdes-Scantling "checked out well" Monday after leaving Sunday's Week 17 loss to the Raiders due to a back injury in the fourth quarter, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling had dealt with a chest issue in practice recently, which may have precipitated the Saints' decision to pull him after he took a hard hit late in Sunday's loss. However, it appears the veteran wideout avoided a significant injury and isn't in danger of missing Sunday's season finale against Tampa Bay. The Saints have been eliminated from playoff contention, but Valdes-Scantling does have some financial motivation to suit up against the Buccaneers, as he can earn a $250k bonus with one touchdown and another $250k with nine receptions.
Dec 29, 2024
Sustains injury during Week 17 loss
Valdes-Scantling (back) did not catch either of his two targets during Sunday's 25-10 defeat versus the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was held without a catch for the first time since joining the Saints back in October. The 30-year-old also sustained a back injury after taking a hard hit late in the fourth quarter. New Orleans coach Darren Rizzi said postgame that this hit aggravated a pre-existing chest injury that had kept Valdes-Scantling out of practice recentley, according to Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. While it's unclear exactly how this back issue is connected to his previous chest injury, it's likely that Valdes-Scantling could be in jeopardy of missing next week's regular-season finale versus Tampa Bay on Sunday, Nov. 5, which would leave an already injury-riddled Saints squad even more shorthanded.
Dec 29, 2024
Back in action in Week 17
Valdes-Scantling (chest) is active for Sunday's game against the Raiders, John Hendrix of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out a Week 16 at Green Bay, Valdes-Scantling was listed as limited Wednesday through Friday due to a lingering chest injury, which left him questionable for Week 17 action. No matter, he'll suit up Sunday alongside fellow WRs Kevin Austin, Dante Pettis and Cedrick Wilson. Considering he's the most established name among that quartet, Valdes-Scantling should be a favorite of current starting QB Spencer Rattler.
Dec 27, 2024
Status in question for Week 17
Valdes-Scantling (chest) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling operated with a cap on his practice reps this week, which was a step up from his lack of activity last week before he was deemed inactive Monday in Green Bay. He isn't dealing with an illness anymore, but a chest injury has lingered, placing a cloud over his status for Week 17. Valdes-Scantling's availability, or lack thereof, will be confirmed about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 26, 2024
Another limited listing
Valdes-Scantling (chest) was limited at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling has cobbled together back-to-back limited listings on the injury report this week, giving him only one more chance to get back to full participation Friday before the Saints potentially tag him with a designation ahead of Sunday's contest versus the Raiders. If he's able to suit up this weekend, Valdes-Scantling may be welcoming back Chris Olave (concussion), who remains on injured reserve but practiced fully Thursday.
Dec 25, 2024
Limited listing Wednesday
Valdes-Scantling (chest) was listed as limited on Wednesday's estimated injury report.
ANALYSIS
This marks Valdes-Scantling's first listing that isn't DNP since Week 15 prep, signaling he's made some progress through the chest injury and illness that combined to sideline him Monday versus the Saints. He'll have two more chances this week to join Chris Olave (concussion) as a full participant, or otherwise risk heading into a second game in a row with a designation.
Dec 23, 2024
Inactive for MNF
Valdes-Scantling (chest/illness) is listed as inactive Monday at Green Bay.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling kicked off Week 16 prep with a DNP last Thursday due to a chest injury, but he remained out of practice as of Friday due to an illness and eventually was listed as questionable for Monday's game. With Valdes-Scantling's lack of availability confirmed, the Saints will be rolling with Kevin Austin, Dante Pettis, Cedrick Wilson and Mason Tipton at wide receiver.
Dec 21, 2024
No practice, questionable for Monday
Valdes-Scantling (chest/illness) is listed as questionable for Monday's contest against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling initially didn't practice Thursday due to a chest injury and then didn't participate in either of the two subsequent ones presumably thanks in some part to an illness, which was tacked on to Friday's injury. It remains to be seen if Valdes-Scantling will be active in the matchup against the team that drafted him, but with Chris Olave (concussion) and Bub Means (ankle) both ruled out, the Saints are woefully thin at wide receiver.
Dec 20, 2024
Comes down with illness
Valdes-Scantling (chest) didn't practice Friday due to an illness, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.
ANALYSIS
After Valdes-Scantling was held out of drills Thursday due to a chest injury, there was an expectation that he'd take part in some capacity one day later, but an ailment kept him off the practice field. Saturday's injury report will give a sense of the wide receiver's chances to suit up Monday at Green Bay.
Dec 20, 2024
Not practicing
Valdes-Scantling (chest) isn't practicing Friday, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports.
ANALYSIS
Back-to-back absences hint at legitimate concern regarding his availability against the Packers on Monday. The short-handed Saints also have been practicing without QB Derek Carr (hand), RB Alvin Kamara (ankle) and WR Bub Means (ankle), potentially leaving the offensive burden on unproven players like QB Spencer Rattler, RB Kendre Miller and WR Kevin Austin. Their healthy wide receivers besides Austin are Dante Pettis, Cedrick Wilson and Mason Tipton.
Dec 19, 2024
Dealing with chest issue
Valdes-Scantling was a non-participant at Thursday's practice due to a chest injury.
ANALYSIS
As the Saints open Week 16 prep, Valdes-Scantling was among a handful of skill-position players to sit out drills, including QB Derek Carr (left hand), RB Alvin Kamara (groin) and WR Bub Means (ankle, IR). Kamara is unlikely to play Monday at Green Bay, while coach Darren Rizzi said Thursday that Spencer Rattler will start if Carr isn't able to, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. With a health concern now in tow, too, Valdes-Scantling's status now will be monitored to see if he also may be in danger of missing Week 16 action.
Dec 15, 2024
Catches two passes Week 15
Valdes-Scantling gathered in two of seven targets for 64 yards during Sunday's 20-19 defeat versus the Commanders. He also logged one rush for four yards.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling briefly exited to get checked for a concussion during the fourth quarter, but he returned for the final drive of the game. The veteran wideout did not record a catch on three targets while quarterback Jake Haener was under center during the first half. He then wound up catching two long passes from rookie Spencer Rattler, who took over coming out of halftime. After totaling four touchdowns in his first three games with the Saints, Valdes-Scantling has gone two games in a row without a score. But, he's logged seven targets in each of these contests, and he's averaged 16.5 yards per targets on 21 targets across five games with New Orleans. The Saints will next play versus Green Bay on Monday, Dec. 23.
Dec 8, 2024
Four grabs in Sunday's win
Valdes-Scantling caught four of seven targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 14-11 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
The veteran wideout led the Saints in receiving yards, just nudging out Juwan Johnson's 50, but it was the tight end who caught Derek Carr's only TD. The QB left the game late in the fourth quarter to be checked out for a concussion and a hand injury, and while Valdes-Scantling has an 11-283-4 line on 17 targets over the last four games, he'll likely have trouble finding the same success in Week 15 against the Commanders if Jake Haener or Spencer Rattler is under center for the Saints instead of Carr.
Dec 1, 2024
Stays hot with another TD
Valdes-Scantling corralled two of three targets for 36 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was the recipient of Derek Carr's only passing touchdown in a defensive battle with the Rams. MVS has been on a heater over his last three games, accruing 232 yards and four scores over that span. It is worth mentioning that the veteran receiver is averaging 2.3 receptions over his current hot streak, highlighting the all-or-nothing nature of Valdes-Scantling as a fantasy asset this season. He is worth starting against the Giants next Sunday and beyond until he cools off.
Nov 17, 2024
Another long TD in Sunday's win
Valdes-Scantling caught two of four targets for 87 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 35-14 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
For the second straight week, Valdes-Scantling and Derek Carr hooked up for a long TD -- this one a 71-yarder in the second quarter -- but the wideout did most of the work this time, taking a short pass over the middle and racing more than 60 yards to paydirt. The four targets were Valdes-Scantling's highest volume in three games since joining New Orleans, but he's posted a mammoth 6-201-3 line on his meager eight looks. He'll try not to cool down during the Saints' Week 12 bye.
Nov 10, 2024
Strikes for two TDs against Atlanta
Valdes-Scantling caught all three of his targets for 109 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
He hauled in both of the Saints' touchdowns on the day, and his only non-scoring catch went for 67 yards. It was a stunning performance from the veteran wideout, who came into Sunday with only three catches for 31 yards on the year, but with Rashid Shaheed (knee) lost for the season and Chris Olave (concussion) lacking a clear return date, Derek Carr seems to have found his new big-play threat. Valdes-Scantling will try to solidify his spot in the New Orleans passing attack in Week 11 against Cleveland.
Nov 4, 2024
Catches one pass in NOLA debut
Valdes-Scantling hauled in his only target for five yards during Sunday's 23-22 loss versus the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling had a quiet start to his Saints tenure, as he saw his lone target midway through the third quarter. The 30-year-old played 41 percent of offensive snaps, which trailed only Mason Tipton (76) and Cedrick Wilson (47). Meanwhile, WR1 Chris Olave was forced out with a concussion in the first quarter. If Olave ends up missing time moving forward, then Tipton, Wilson and Valdes-Scantling could all see increased targets. However they'll still have to contend with running back Alvin Kamara and tight end Taysom Hill, as these two led the team in targets Week 9 with nine and five, respectively. The Saints' next game will come versus the Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 10.
Oct 21, 2024
Finds new home
The Saints signed Valdes-Scantling on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of losing Rashid Shaheed for the season due to a torn meniscus last week, the Saints were in the market for help at wide receiver, both in the short and long term. Currently, top option Chris Olave remains in the concussion protocol, so Mason Tipton, Bub Means and Cedrick Wilson are the others aside from Valdes-Scantling at the position on the active roster. Prior to getting cut by the Bills last Tuesday, Valdes-Scantling had hauled in two of nine targets for 26 yards in six appearances this season.
Oct 20, 2024
Works out in Big Easy
Valdes-Scantling had a workout with the Saints on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Less than a week removed from exiting Buffalo, Valdes-Scantling could be in line to call a new city home. The speedy pass catcher was not able to stand out enough with the Bills to hold on to a roster spot, but the receiver-needy Saints could make more sense for his services. In his seventh season, the journeyman has logged just 26 yards on two receptions across six games.
Oct 15, 2024
Moving on from Buffalo
The Bills released Valdes-Scantling on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling's release frees up a spot on the 53-man roster for the newly acquired Amari Cooper, but the Bills won't clear any cap space with the move, as Valdes-Scantling signed a fully guaranteed one-year, $2.25 million deal in the offseason. He suited up in each of the Bills' first six games of the season but failed to make much of an imprint in the box score, logging just two catches for 26 yards on nine targets while playing 127 snaps.
Oct 2, 2024
Held catchless in loss
Valdes-Scantling failed to secure his lone target in Sunday's 35-10 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling continued to play a limited role in Buffalo's offense in Week 4. The veteran wideout played 25 of the Bills' 59 offensive snaps, behind Keon Coleman (43), Mack Hollins (36) and Khalil Shakir (35). His one target was the lowest of any Buffalo wide receiver in the contest. Going forward, Valdes-Scantling won't hold much fantasy value barring injuries to the other members of the receiving corps. The Bills are set to visit the Texans in Week 5.
Sep 25, 2024
Leads receivers in snaps
Valdes-Scantling hauled in one of his two targets for a seven-yard gain in Monday's 47-10 win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling finished as the surprising leader in playing time among Bills wideouts in Week 3. He took the field for 49 of the Bills' 64 offensive snaps, with his 77 percent snap share narrowly outpacing Mack Hollins (72 percent) and Khalil Shakir (55 percent). However, even with quarterback Josh Allen spreading the ball out liberally among his pass catchers through the first three weeks, Valdes-Scantling hasn't been able to make a mark in the box score. He's drawn just five targets this season and will likely continue to function mainly as a downfield threat who attracts attention from the defense and frees up looks for others underneath.
Sep 13, 2024
Non-factor in Week 2 win
Valdes-Scantling didn't catch his only target in Thursday's 31-10 win over the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling has just one catch on the targets through two games with the Bills. The speedster will likely connect with big-armed quarterback Josh Allen for a few big plays this season, but those will likely come sporadically given Valdes-Scantling's lack of a consistent role in Buffalo's offense. Heading into a Week 3 home game against the Jaguars, Valdes-Scantling is fifth among Bills wide receivers in targets behind Khalil Shakir (eight), Keon Coleman (six), Curtis Samuel (four) and Mack Hollins (four).
Sep 11, 2024
Targeted twice in win
Valdes-Scantling reeled in one of his two targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 34-28 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling played just 13 of the Bills' 62 offensive snaps Sunday, the fewest of any Buffalo wideout. Buried on the depth chart behind Keon Coleman, Khalil Shakir, Mack Hollins and Curtis Samuel, the 29-year-old wideout will likely struggle to see enough consistent playing time to sustain fantasy relevance. Nonetheless, Valdes-Scantling will have his next opportunity to produce in what projects to be a shootout between Buffalo and Miami in Week 2.
Sep 4, 2024
Healthy to kick off regular season
Valdes-Scantling (neck) is not listed on Wednesday's injury report and does not carry any injury designation for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling is fully recovered after having suffered a neck injury Aug. 17 in preseason action versus the Steelers. Full health doesn't guarantee that the veteran deep threat will be active Week 1 versus Arizona, though, as all of Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins are healthy and seem entrenched above him on the depth chart. If he suits up Sunday, Valdes-Scantling only figures to contribute in a reserve role on offense.
Aug 28, 2024
Practicing in regular jersey
Valdes-Scantling (neck) participated in the portion of practice available to the media Wednesday, Sal Capaccio of WGR 550 Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling suffered a neck injury in a preseason game Aug. 17 against the Steelers, but he has made progress in his recovery. Every member of Buffalo's recently finalized 53-man roster participated in some capacity, and Valdes-Scantling wasn't among the three players donning red non-contact jerseys. The veteran deep threat appears to be on pace to suit up Week 1 against the Cardinals, but it will be worth monitoring whether Valdes-Scantling's name pops up on the injury reports that Buffalo will begin publishing on game week.
Aug 28, 2024
Makes it past cuts
Valdes-Scantling (neck) has made the initial 52-man roster, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
MVS was no lock to make it, but coach Sean McDermott expressed optimism last week that the veteran has a good chance of being ready for Week 1, and when the Bills made their cutdown decisions there was a need for speed on the roster. Buffalo has been known to scour the free-agent wire pretty hard, so Valdes-Scantling is no lock to be in uniform for Week 1 against the Cardinals, and even if he does he's probably fifth on the depth chart to start the season. But it's at least worth noting that there is some fun to be had in this offense given his sheer speed and Josh Allen's ability to throw it most of the way down the field.

May be ready for Week 1
When asked about the chances of Valdes-Scantling (neck) and Curtis Samuel (turf toe) playing in Week 1, coach Sean McDermott expressed a degree of optimism, Alec White of the Bills' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
"I feel like those two, from what I've heard so far, have a real good chance of being back, just not committing to it yet," McDermott noted of Valdes-Scantling and Samuel. Once available, Valdes-Scantling will look to solidify his standing in a Buffalo WR corps that also includes Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Samuel, Mack Hollins and KJ Hamler.
Aug 19, 2024
Out multiple weeks
Valdes-Scantling (neck) is expected to miss multiple weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
With Valdes-Scantling's Week 1 status now unclear and Curtis Samuel (turf toe) week-to week, the Bills' depth at wideout ahead of the regular season is being taxed. For now, Buffalo's top healthy options at the position are Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman, but it's plausible that the team will look to bolster the ranks in the coming days.
Aug 18, 2024
X-rays return negative
Valdes-Scantling had X-rays on his neck that came back negative, and he's been diagnosed with a neck sprain, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was carted from the sideline to the locker room due to the neck injury during Saturday's preseason game against Pittsburgh, so his diagnosis is positive news in that context. It's uncertain whether the veteran wideout will be able to play in Buffalo's final preseason contest against Carolina on Saturday, but it looks like the injury won't sideline him long-term. That said, Valdes-Scantling hasn't had a great camp, so it's not a guarantee that he'll end up on the 53-man roster.
Aug 17, 2024
Ruled out Saturday
Valdes-Scantling (neck) won't return to Saturday's preseason contest at Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling had his neck stabilized after a catch in the second quarter and eventually was carted to the locker room. Considering he's lagged behind in the WR competition in training camp and now is dealing with a health concern, he could be in danger of not making the Bills' initial roster after cut-down day Tuesday, Aug. 27.
Aug 17, 2024
Sustains neck injury
Valdes-Scantling suffered a neck injury during Saturday's preseason game in Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling remained on the field after a second-quarter catch and even had his neck stabilized by trainers, but he eventually sat up and went to the sideline tent before being carted to the locker room. With his night almost certainly over, his upcoming prognosis may be a determining factor to whether or not he's able to earn a roster spot on the Bills on cut-down day (Tuesday, Aug. 27).
Aug 17, 2024
Carted to locker room
Valdes-Scantling (undisclosed) needed a cart to go to the locker room during Saturday's preseason game at Pittsburgh, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
ANALYSIS
After making a catch in the second quarter, Valdes-Scantling remained on the field for a spell and even had his neck stabilized, but he eventually was able to sit up and make his way to the sideline tent with assistance from team trainers. The nature of the injury isn't known, but it wouldn't surprise if his night is over considering it's exhibition season.

On the roster bubble?
Valdes-Scantling's first-team reps have dwindled amidst a slow start to training camp, Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Chase Claypool's absence due to a toe injury might've seemed like an opportunity for Valdes-Scantling to get more reps and deep targets, but Buscaglia notes that the former Packer/Chief has mostly been working with backups and not making any noise. Valdes-Scantling could end up on the roster bubble, even though his $1.125 million base salary is guaranteed and the Bills paid him a $1.125 million signing bonus, i.e., they're paying him $2.25 million no matter what.

Gets one-year deal in Buffalo
The Bills are slated to sign Valdes-Scantling to a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was released by the Chiefs back in February, and he now lands with another AFC powerhouse. Buffalo's revamped wide receiver corps, which lost Stefon Diggs via trade and Gabe Davis to free agency, could use a deep threat to complement Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel and rookie second-round pick Keon Coleman. Working as the No. 4 man on the depth chart could be an ideal situation for Valdes-Scantling to contribute, though if utilized only as a situation downfield target, he's more likely to slightly raise Josh Allen's ceiling than carry standalone value. Across 16 regular-season games last year, the 29-year-old compiled a career-low 21-315-1 receiving line.
Feb 28, 2024
Let go by Chiefs
Kansas City is releasing Valdes-Scantling, saving the team roughly $12 million in cap space, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling's only chance of remaining with the Chiefs would have been to restructure the final year of his three-year, $30 million contract. Kansas City's cap savings by cutting the veteran wideout are, as it stands, a necessity for a team hoping to retain both L'Jarius Sneed and Chris Jones. Valdes-Scantling did little across 16 regular-season games in 2023, with just 21 catches for 315 yards and one touchdown on 42 targets. Back in 2022, he essentially doubled that production in one extra game played. The 29-year-old deep threat will now look to find a complementary role in a wide receiver corps elsewhere in the league.
Feb 20, 2024
Candidate to be released
The Chiefs may release Valdes-Scantling this offseason, a move that would clear up $12 million in cap space, according to Nate Taylor of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
It's a no-brainer move barring a renegotiated contract, despite Valdes-Scantling's contributions in the playoffs the past two seasons. He's won two rings since signing a three-year, $30 million contact with the Chiefs in March 2022, but he caught only 21 passes for 315 yards and one touchdown in 16 games during the 2023 regular season. Valdes-Scantling will turn 30 during the 2024 season and has never reached 700 yards despite taking nearly all of his NFL snaps with either Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers under center.
Jan 28, 2024
Ices game with big reception
Valdes-Scantling caught both of his targets for 38 yards in Sunday's 17-10 AFC Championship win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling began Kansas City's final offensive drive with just one reception for six yards before getting loose over the top for a 32-yard reception that allowed his team to run out the clock and advance to Super Bowl LVIII. That's now two consecutive weeks in which the 29-year-old wideout made clutch receptions to help his team ice out playoff victories. MVS will attempt to work his postseason magic as one of superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes' auxiliary options in Las Vegas on Sunday Feb. 11.
Jan 21, 2024
Redemption in divisional round
Valdes-Scantling recorded two receptions on four targets for 62 yards in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling got attention this season for the wrong reasons, as he often squandered opportunities with drops. However, he delivered key receptions of 32 and 30 yards in the Chiefs' win, both of which helped set up touchdowns later in the drive. It was Valdes-Scantling's highest yardage total since Week 7 and the first time he topped 30 receiving yards in that span. With Kadarius Toney (hip) struggling to get healthy and Mecole Hardman losing a key fumble Sunday, Valdes-Scantling may be called upon once again in the AFC Championship Game against Baltimore.
Jan 17, 2024
Output slows in 2023
Valdes-Scantling didn't play in the Chiefs' regular-season finale versus the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
While Valdes-Scantling was technically active for the regular-season finale, he didn't see any snaps in the contest and will instead gear up to return in the wild-card round. MVS posted a disappointing season overall, halving or more each of his receptions (21 from 42 in 2023), receiving yards (315 from 687 in 2023) and receiving touchdowns (one from two in 2023). He has one more year left on his contract, but with just $2 million dead cap space, it seems likely the Chiefs will move on from the veteran wideout this offseason or rework his contract. Either way, his production certainly doesn't warrant the $13.98 million cap hit he would cost to stick around on his current deal.
Jan 2, 2024
Minimal output versus Bengals
Valdes-Scantling gathered in one of three targets for three yards during Sunday's 25-17 win against Cincinnati.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling certainly hasn't produced at a level that satisfies the terms of his contract for the 2023 campaign, catching no more than three passes in a contest, which occurred only once in Week 7. He has only one touchdown this year and has clearly fallen behind in the target pecking order, so from a fantasy perspective, there's little reason to show much interest in the veteran. He still plays plenty, however, logging the second-most snaps among wideouts in Week 17. With the Chiefs locked into the No. 3 playoff seed, it's possible some players could get a rest in Week 18 to ensure they are healthy for the postseason.
Dec 26, 2023
Blanked in Week 16
Valdes-Scantling did not catch his only target in Monday's 20-14 loss versus the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Despite leading Kansas City's wide receivers in snaps Monday (58), Valdes-Scantling was only able to draw one target, which he couldn't haul in. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn't have much time in the pocket, so the longer routes that are Valdes-Scantling's calling card were simply not in play for much of the game. He'll look to bounce back in Week 17 versus the Bengals.
Dec 20, 2023
One target in Week 15
Valdes-Scantling secured his only target for 17 yards in Sunday's 27-17 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling saw just one target on a day that quarterback Patrick Mahomes attempted 37 passes. The veteran wideout continues to produce modestly in the Chiefs' offense. Through 14 games, Valdes-Scantling has recorded career-lows in receptions (20), yards (312) and touchdowns (1). The 29-year-old will have an opportunity to bounce back in a Week 16 matchup with the Raiders.
Dec 13, 2023
Reels in two catches
Valdes-Scantling secured two of four targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling continued his disappointing season Sunday, catching just two passes for the second straight week. The veteran wideout played 22 of the Chiefs' 66 offensive snaps, behind Rashee Rice (56), Justin Watson (36), Kadarius Toney (29) and Sky Moore (23). Since Kansas City's Week 9 bye, Valdes-Scantling is roughly averaging a 45 percent snap share compared to the 61 percent average he saw in the first eight games. Seeing such limited opportunities, the 29-year-old is an untrustworthy fantasy option in most formats. he'll look to make the most of his opportunities in Week 15 when the Chiefs visit the Patriots.
Dec 6, 2023
Modest production in loss
Valdes-Scantling caught two of five targets for 25 yards in Sunday's 27-19 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling's five targets were tied for a season-high set back in Week 7. Even so, the veteran wideout was unable to have much of an impact with his opportunities against his former team. Valdes-Scantling has mostly underwhelmed this season, averaging 16.1 receiving yards per game and finding the end zone just once during the 2023 campaign. The 29-year-old will be difficult to trust for fantasy purposes in a potential shootout against the Bills in Week 14.
Nov 7, 2023
Another lackluster showing
Valdes-Scantling gathered in two of three targets for 22 yards during Sunday's 21-14 victory against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling hasn't claimed more than three passes in a game yet this season as part of a Chiefs offense that hasn't quite kept pace with Kansas City's high-powered offenses in years past. MVS should continue to see consistent reps, but he's not a priority target in the passing attack and will likely remain a touchdown-dependent fantasy option each week.
Oct 31, 2023
Kept in check by Broncos
Valdes-Scantling hauled in two of his four targets for 27 yards during Sunday's 24-9 defeat against Denver.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling pieced together his best effort of the season last week against the Chargers, notching three grabs for 84 yards and a score, but he could not replicate that output in Sunday's contest despite the Chiefs trailing a healthy portion of the contest. He did finish the game with his second-most targets (four) this season, but the veteran can be left off most fantasy rosters at this point.
Oct 22, 2023
Best game of season in win
Valdes-Scantling secured three of five targets for 84 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' 31-17 win over the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling finished a distant second in receiving yards to Travis Kelce on the afternoon for the Chiefs, but the veteran receiver's passing yardage total was his best of the season by far. Valdes-Scantling hadn't topped 48 receiving yards prior to Sunday, and the play that was integral to him eclipsing that mark, his early-second-quarter 46-yard touchdown reception, also served as his first score of the campaign. Despite the encouraging numbers Sunday, MVS remains a highly speculative fantasy option week to week thanks to the Chiefs' propensity for spreading the ball around to an inordinate number of targets.
Oct 13, 2023
One target in Week 6
Valdes-Scantling didn't catch his lone target in Thursday's 19-8 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling's only target came on a Patrick Mahomes throwaway, as the receiver corralled the ball well past the back of the end zone. While nobody has emerged as the clear No. 1 option in Kansas City's muddled wide receiver room, Valdes-Scantling has been closer to the bottom than the top, with just seven catches through six games and no more than one reception in any of the past four.
Oct 10, 2023
Pedestrian line again
Valdes-Scantling had one reception (on two targets) for 12 yards during Sunday's 27-20 victory versus the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling has just a single catch on two targets to his name in each of the last three contests and no more than two in a game through the first five weeks, so it's likely not worth rostering the veteran wideout in most formats. An injury or two in the passing attack won't change much either, as MVS still led wideouts in offensive snaps (65 percent) while producing next to nothing in the box score, so there's little upside to his profile at this point.
Oct 3, 2023
Limited impact in Week 4
Valdes-Scantling gathered in one of his two targets for six yards during Sunday's 23-20 victory over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
After logging the most or second-most snaps among Chiefs receivers in the first three games, Valdes-Scantling fell to third in that count (34) Sunday evening behind Justin Watson (43) and Skyy Moore (41). MVS has just six catches for 104 yards through the first four games, and there's little to suggest things are trending in a positive direction for the veteran deep threat, especially with rookie Rashee Rice nipping at his heels for playing time and Justin Watson surpassing him in snaps. Given the Valdes-Scantling has just nine targets to his name through four games, he's far from a worthwhile fantasy option in most formats.
Sep 26, 2023
Nabs single pass in Week 3
Valdes-Scantling reeled in 1 of 2 targets for 37 yards during Sunday's 41-10 victory over Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling hasn't compiled more than two catches in a game through the first trio of weeks, drawing no more than three targets in a contest. He's also yet to find pay dirt, and it's seemingly trending toward another season where the Chiefs' wide receiver room won't sport consistent production. However, MVS is already trailing Rashee Rice (14), Skyy Moore (13), Justin Watson and Kadarius Toney (11) in targets, so there's little to suggest he will be a worthwhile fantasy asset in 2023.
Sep 20, 2023
Held to two catches again
Valdes-Scantling recorded two receptions for 13 yards on three targets in Sunday's 17-9 win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
For the second week in a row, Valdes-Scantling was limited to just two receptions, and all three of his targets came in the short areas of the field. The 28-year-old has the ability to stretch the field after recording 13 receptions of 20-plus yards in 2022, but Justin Watson has looked like the Chiefs' top deep threat through the first two weeks. Even though Valdes-Scantling is the highest-paid and nominal No. 1 wideout for Kansas City, tight end Travis Kelce remains the clear top priority in the Chiefs' passing game. Aside from Kelce, target counts could remain highly volatile for all other members of the Kansas City pass-catching corps from week to week.
Sep 8, 2023
Team-high yardage total in loss
Valdes-Scantling secured both targets for 48 yards in the Chiefs' 21-20 loss to the Lions on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
The veteran speedster led the Chiefs in yardage, with the highlight of his night a 34-yard third-down grab late in the first half on a drive that culminated in a four-yard Blake Bell touchdown. However, Valdes-Scantling disappointingly didn't see any uptick in volume despite the absence of Travis Kelce (knee), with his two targets less than the amount he saw in all but four games last season and postseason. MVS will aim to bounce back in a Week 2 road matchup a week from Sunday versus a Jaguars team he scored two touchdowns against over two games in 2022.
Aug 9, 2023
Listed as starter on depth chart
Valdes-Scantling was listed as a starting receiver on the Chiefs' unofficial depth chart Wednesday, Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
This doesn't come as a surprise at all. Alongside MVS as a starting wideout is 2022 second-round pick Skyy Moore. With Kadarius Toney (knee) hurt and in question for Week 1, Valdes-Scantling and Moore have been getting all of the first-team reps. MVS should have better chemistry with Patrick Mahomes in their second season together. The veteran wide receiver is looking to improve on his 42/687/2 line from last season.
Mar 10, 2023
Goes quiet in Super Bowl
Valdes-Scantling didn't reel in his only target during the Super Bowl versus the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
After a breakout effort during the AFC Championship win over the Bengals, recording six catches for 116 yards and a touchdown, the deep threat was held in check against the Eagles. He closed out the playoffs with seven catches for 122 yards and a pair of scores after compiling 42 grabs for 687 yards and a pair of touchdowns during the regular season. MVS' deal with the Chiefs extends through the 2024 campaign, so he will likely retain a similar role in 2023.
Jan 29, 2023
Best game yet as Chief in win
Valdes-Scantling brought in six of eight targets for 116 yards and a touchdown during the Chiefs' 23-20 win over the Bengals in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.
ANALYSIS
The talented speedster put together his best yardage total as a Chief yet and produced his second touchdown in as many weeks with a 19-yard scoring grab with 4:15 remaining in the third quarter. Valdes-Scantling's yardage tally was also a team-high figure, and thanks in part to in-game injuries to JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee), Mecole Hardman (pelvis) and Kadarius Toney (ankle), his target tally also tied Travis Kelce's for tops on Kansas City. MVS could be headed for another busy day in Super Bowl LVII versus the Eagles in two weeks' time, not only because of his field-stretching capability, but due to the potential absence or limitations of some of his fellow wideouts as well.
Jan 10, 2023
Light tally to close regular season
Valdes-Scantling gathered in 3 of 6 targets for 27 yards during Saturday's 31-13 victory against the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling compiled three or fewer catches for the fifth straight game, didn't top 28 receiving yards in the final five weeks and had just one touchdown to his name all season. The deep threat didn't really live up to what the Chiefs were aiming for when they signed him to a three-year contract before the season, though he did compile a career-high 42 catches and fell just three yards short of his career-high receiving yardage total with 687. MVS also drew 13 targets combined between the final two regular-season contests, so there is a chance he could make an impact in the postseason if he and Patrick Mahomes can connect on a deep shot.
Jan 3, 2023
Inefficient with target volume
Valdes-Scantling caught 2 of 7 targets for 28 yards during Sunday's 27-24 win versus the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
There were numerous occasions where Valdes-Scantling had a chance to make a big play but was ultimately unable to connect with quarterback Patrick Mahomes. It's at least an encouraging sign to see the deep threat drawing his most targets since Week 7, but it didn't turn into much tangible fantasy production. Valdes-Scantling could be an interesting deep fantasy option in some postseason leagues, but he doesn't possess much fantasy value in regular redrafts at this point.
Dec 26, 2022
Held catchless in win
Valdes-Scantling failed to catch either of his two targets in Saturday's 24-10 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was a complete non-factor in the contest, and played fewer offensive snaps than fellow wideouts JuJu Smith-Schuster (44) and Justin Watson (39). In fact, the veteran's 23 snap total was his lowest of the season. Valdes-Scantling has been up-and-down so far this season, as Patrick Mahomes is known to spread the ball around to several pass catchers. With that said, being a part of the Chiefs aerial attack certainly allows for great potential on any given week. In Week 17, the Chiefs host the Broncos, who allowed Valdes-Scantling to catch just one pass for 20 yards. The 28-year-old speedster will be difficult to trust for fantasy purposes.
Dec 18, 2022
Finds end zone in OT win
Valdes-Scantling secured three of five targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' 30-24 overtime win over the Texans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The speedy wideout recorded a touchdown for the first time since Week 10 and only his second time all season on an impressive sliding four-yard grab on the right side of the end zone with 14 seconds remaining in the first half. Otherwise, MVS once again had a modest role on what was a prolific day for the Chiefs' air attack, posting his third sub-30-yard receiving day for the fourth time in the last seven games. Valdes-Scantling will next take aim at an inconsistent Seahawks secondary in a Week 16 home matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Dec 13, 2022
Small impact in Week 14
Valdes-Scantling caught 1 of 3 targets for 20 yards during Sunday's 34-28 victory against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling has played around half the offensive snaps in each of the last three games, a far cry from the 70-plus percent he played in nearly every game through Week 11. MVS still drew 11 targets in the two previous games but received just three Sunday. He has gone over 100 receiving yards just once all season and has just one receiving touchdown to his name, so Valdes-Scantling can be left on the waiver wire in most formats.
Dec 4, 2022
Leading receiver in Sunday's loss
Valdes-Scantling caught two of six targets for 71 yards in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
He could have had a much bigger day as drops were an issue for Valdes-Scantling once again, but his 71 yards still led Kansas City. It's his best performance since he erupted for 111 yards back in Week 7, but the former Packer could have trouble repeating it in Week 14 against a stingy Broncos secondary.
Nov 27, 2022
Four catches in Sunday's win
Valdes-Scantling caught four of five targets for 56 yards in Sunday's 26-10 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Travis Kelce bested him by one yard for the team lead as Valdes-Scantling saw his highest target volume since Week 5. The former Packer remains a secondary part of the high-powered Kansas City passing game, making him a volatile fantasy option heading into a Week 13 clash with the Bengals.
Nov 21, 2022
Struggles with four targets
Valdes-Scantling (illness) recorded one reception on four targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was battling an illness during practice this week, but he was ultimately cleared from the injury report prior to Sunday night's tilt. The veteran wideout wasn't able to step up with several key Kansas City receivers missing from action, instead posting one of his poorer stat lines of the year. JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) and Kadarius Toney (hamstring) are currently questionable for next Sunday's tilt against the Rams, so MVS may have an opportunity to redeem himself after disappointing in this fill-in start.
Nov 18, 2022
Cleared to play Sunday
Valdes-Scantling (illness) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday night's game against the Chargers after practicing fully Friday.
ANALYSIS
With JuJu Smith-Schuster ruled out with a concussion and Mecole Hardman (abdomen/illness) having been placed on IR, Valdes-Scantling is in line to handle plenty of snaps Sunday, while Kadarius Toney, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore are also candidates to see added opportunities in Week 11. Through nine games, Valdes-Scantling has caught 26 of his 43 targets for 441 yards and a TD, and with both Smith-Schuster and Hardman sidelined this weekend, the 6-foot-4, 206-pounder should see enough volume in Kansas City's passing game to merit fantasy consideration against Los Angeles.
Nov 17, 2022
Back to limited practice
Valdes-Scantling (illness) returned to a limited practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling missed Wednesday's practice, so his return to the field Friday bodes well for his chances of suiting up Sunday night against the Chargers. If he upgrades to full participation Friday, Valdes-Scantling could approach the contest minus an injury designation and if so he'd be in line for a key role in Week 11, with JuJu Smith-Schuster iffy due to a concussion and Mecole Hardman (abdomen) having been placed on IR on Thursday.
Nov 17, 2022
On track to practice Thursday
Valdes-Scantling (illness) is in line to practice Thursday, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling sat out Wednesday's session, but his looming return to practice has the wideout trending in the right direction as Sunday night's game against the Chargers approaches. Meanwhile JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) and Mecole Hardman (abdomen) are slated to miss practice again Thursday, and if either one or both are unable to play this weekend, Valdes-Scantling could be busy in Week 11, with Kadarius Toney, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore also candidates to factor in versus Los Angeles.
Nov 16, 2022
Set to miss practice
Valdes-Scantling (illness) won't practice Wednesday, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
The same goes for JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) and Mecole Hardman (abdomen), with the trio's status worth monitoring closely ahead of Sunday's night's game against the Chargers. For now, Kansas City's top available wideouts are Kadarius Toney, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore.
Nov 13, 2022
Gets into end zone Sunday
Valdes-Scantling brought in three of four targets for 60 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs' 27-17 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The speedster didn't see a boost in targets despite the first-half departure of fellow wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster due to a head injury, but he still delivered nicely for fantasy managers on an 18-yard scoring grab early in the second quarter, the first of his Chiefs tenure. Valdes-Scantling's receiving yardage total finished second behind that of Travis Kelce's on the afternoon, and he'll head into a Week 11 matchup against the Chargers on the road next Sunday night with a potential expanded role on tap if Smith-Schuster is forced to sit out.
Nov 8, 2022
Little involvement versus Titans
Valdes-Scantling caught his only target for 12 yards during Sunday's 20-17 overtime victory against Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
While the Chiefs gave Valdes-Scantling a healthy contract prior to the 2022 campaign, it hasn't proved fruitful for either the team or MVS. The deep threat has finished with 90-plus yards on a pair of occasions but has yet to reach pay dirt and saw a season-low one target Sunday night. New acquisition Kadarius Toney is also viewed as a deep threat. He could get more involved in the coming weeks, which could impact Valdes-Scantling's snap totals in the future, especially with Mecole Hardman (6/79/1 Sunday) outproducing him of late.
Oct 24, 2022
Records season-high 111 yards
Valdes-Scantling hauled in three of four passes for 111 yards and no touchdowns during Sunday's 44-23 win at San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling had his best outing as a Chief in terms of receiving yards, which was powered by two of the three longest plays of the game for the team, a 40-yard grab in the second quarter and a 57-yarder in the final period. The receptions marked his first of the campaign of 40-plus yards, but he also played a season-low 55 percent of the offensive snaps Sunday. He remains hit-or-miss on a weekly basis, but working with quarterback Patrick Mahomes means Valdes-Scantling can hit for big plays at a moment's notice.
Oct 19, 2022
Held catchless in loss
Valdes-Scantling failed to reel in any of his three targets in Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling played 82 percent of the Chiefs' offensive snaps, but the wideout was a complete non-factor in the passing attack. His lackluster performance comes just a week removed from his best game with the Chiefs, in which he paced the team with 90 yards. Valdes-Scantling has been inconsistent in his production and has not been the playmaker many thought he could be in an offense led by Patrick Mahomes. There are likely brighter days ahead for the 28-year-old, but he is becoming increasingly difficult to trust for fantasy purposes. Valdes-Scantling will look to get back on track when the Chiefs visit the 49ers in Week 7.
Oct 11, 2022
Leads way with 90 yards
Valdes-Scantling recorded six receptions on eight targets for 90 yards in Monday's 30-29 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
While overshadowed by Travis Kelce's four-touchdown performance, Valdes-Scantling delivered his best game as a Chief. His performance was highlighted by three catches of more than 15 yards, and he delivered a pair of key receptions on third down to keep drives alive. Valdes-Scantling has often served as a deep threat throughout his career, but he's shown the ability to produce on volume early in his tenure in Kansas City and now has at least seven targets in three of his last four games.
Oct 3, 2022
Gains 63 yards in win
Valdes-Scantling (abdomen) caught three of five targets for 63 yards in Sunday's 41-31 win over Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was limited at practice this week with an abdomen injury, but he was able to suit up and even absorbed a blow to his midsection on one of his three receptions. The former Packer now has 13 receptions on 23 targets for 168 yards through four games with his new club. MVS will look for his first touchdown of the season in a Week 5 matchup against the Raiders next Monday.
Oct 2, 2022
Playing in Week 4
Valdes-Scantling (abdomen) is listed as active for Sunday night's game against the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
After being deemed a non-participant Thursday, Valdes-Scantling returned to a limited practice session Friday, setting the stage for him to give it a go Sunday night. Through his first three games with Kansas City, he's compiled a modest 10-105-0 receiving line, but as long as steady snaps and targets (seven in each of his last two games) are the norm for the wideout, he'll have a chance to make his mark in the coming weeks if he's able to continue building on-field chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Oct 1, 2022
Should be available Sunday
Valdes-Scantling (abdomen), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's prime-time matchup against the Buccaneers, is expected to play, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was able to practice in limited fashion Friday, which seemed to indicate he'd be available to play, and it appears since that point things have been positive in terms of his status for Sunday. Expect the Chiefs to officially confirm the news closer to the aforementioned 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff.
Sep 30, 2022
Listed as questionable
Valdes-Scantling (abdomen) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers after returning to a limited practice Friday.
ANALYSIS
After being deemed a non-participant Thursday during Thursday's practice, Valdes-Scantling logged a limited session Friday, which gives him a chance to suit up for Sunday night's 8:20 ET contest against the Buccaneers. Ideally, added context regarding the wideout's Week 4 status will arrive before the first wave of kickoffs Sunday, but if Valdes-Scantling ends up out or limited against Tampa Bay, Justin Watson and Skyy Moore would be candidates to see added WR snaps for Kansas City.
Sep 30, 2022
Back at practice
Valdes-Scantling (abdomen) returned to practice Friday, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling, who was limited at Wednesday's practice, was deemed a non-participant Thursday, but his return to the mix Friday bodes well for his chances of playing Sunday against the Buccaneers. The Chiefs' upcoming injury report will reveal whether or not Valdes-Scantling approaches the contest with a Week 4 injury designation.
Sep 29, 2022
Spectator for practice Thursday
Valdes-Scantling (abdomen) worked off to the side at Thursday's practice and is set to go down as a non-participant on the Chiefs' second injury report of Week 4, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
The abdominal injury was enough to render Valdes-Scantling a limited participant in the Chiefs' first practice session Wednesday, but the wideout doesn't look like he'll mix into any drills Thursday. Though he was at least in attendance for practice, Valdes-Scantling wasn't sporting a helmet and was holding his own individual workout with a trainer. The Chiefs will see if he's able to take a step forward in his activity Friday before deciding whether he'll carry a designation into Sunday's game at Tampa Bay.
Sep 28, 2022
Listed as limited Wednesday
Valdes-Scantling (abdomen) was limited at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
In Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Colts, Valdes-Scantling was on the field for a team-high 49 snaps among the Kansas City's wideouts. He wound up with four catches on seven targets for 48 yards in the contest, but now that Valdes-Scantling is on the Chiefs' injury report, his status is worth monitoring ahead of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
Sep 25, 2022
Records four grabs in loss
Valdes-Scantling secured four of seven targets for 48 yards in the Chiefs' 20-17 loss to the Colts on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The speedster put together a solid effort overall while tying for second on the team in catches and checking in third in receiving yardage. Valdes-Scantling was also behind just JuJu Smith-Schuster and Travis Kelce in targets, and the fifth-year pro has encouragingly drawn 18 looks from Patrick Mahomes through three games. Valdes-Scantling's next opportunity to improve on a serviceable start to his Chiefs tenure comes in a tough road assignment versus the Buccaneers in Week 4.
Sep 15, 2022
Inefficient in Week 2 win
Valdes-Scantling brought in two of seven targets for 13 yards in the Chiefs' 27-24 win over the Chargers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
The speedster tied Travis Kelce for the team lead in targets, but as his final line demonstrates, he did little with them. Valdes-Scantling had displayed good chemistry with Patrick Mahomes in Week 1 by hauling in all four of his targets, but with the duo working together for the first time this season, there's bound to be some inefficient weeks as the season unfolds. Valdes-Scantling's first opportunity to bounce back from Thursday's quiet performance comes in a Week 3 road clash with the Colts a week from Sunday.
Sep 13, 2022
Four grabs in Chiefs debut
Valdes-Scantling reeled in all four of his targets for 44 yards and rushed once for a loss of three yards Sunday versus the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling tied for fourth on the team in targets, falling behind Travis Kelce (nine), JuJu Smith-Schuster (eight) and Mecole Hardman (six), while matching Jerrick McKinnon on the day. On a more positive note, MVS did log the most snaps of any pass-catcher in the contest (51), suggesting some more productive days may be ahead of him.
Aug 29, 2022
Cleared from concussion protocol
Valdes-Scantling is no longer in the concussion protocol and said he'll play Week 1 against the Cardinals, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
The wideout returned to practice Sunday after missing Thursday's preseason game against the Packers, his former team. Valdes-Scantling should be fine for the season opener and likely will get the start and play a majority of snaps on offense.
Aug 25, 2022
In concussion protocol
Valdes-Scantling was unavailable for Thursday's preseason finale against the Packers because he was in concussion protocol, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was present on the sideline but was not in pads. The injury shouldn't raise too much concern in terms of Valdes-Scantlling's availability for Week 1, as he still has around 17 days to clear the necessary protocols. He also got some time to mesh with Patrick Mahomes, as he caught a total of three passes for 35 yards across the team's first two preseason contests.
Aug 25, 2022
Not playing Thursday
Valdes-Scantling was not in uniform ahead of Thursday's preseason finale against the Packers, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to JuJu Smith-Schuster, who is dealing with a knee issue. Once the season starts, both players are in line to see key roles in Kansas City's passing attack, along with fellow wideouts Mecole Hardman and Skyy Moore.
Aug 13, 2022
Starts preseason opener
Valdes-Scantling started Saturday's preseason opener against the Bears, catching one pass for 11 yards.
ANALYSIS
Valdes was targeted twice in Patrick Mahomes' lone drive. His lone catch kept the drive alive on third down. Mecole Hardman was the only other wideout targeted by Mahomes, with JuJu Smith-Schuster failing to receive a look.
Mar 24, 2022
Inks three-year deal
The Chiefs have signed Valdes-Scantling to a three-year deal, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, the speedster's three-year pact is worth up to $36 million. Following the trade of Tyreek Hill, it was clear that the Chiefs needed to fortify their wideout corps and adding Valdes-Scantling to the mix is a step in the right direction. The 27-year-old, who caught 26 of his 55 targets for 430 yards and three TDs in 11 games with Green Bay last season, will bring a field-stretching element to a Kansas City wide receiver corps that also includes JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman, with further depth likely to arrive via free agency and/or the 2022 NFL Draft.
Jan 22, 2022
Inactive versus 49ers
Valdes-Scantling (back) is listed as inactive for Saturday's wild-card game against the 49ers, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling came down with a back injury Week 18 at Detroit, and while he logged a limited practice when the Packers reconvened Tuesday, he proceeded to miss back-to-back sessions to close out this week. On Thursday, coach Matt LaFleur termed Valdes-Scantling doubtful to play in the team's postseason opener, and he'll sit this one out. In a fortunate turn of events, Randall Cobb completed his recovery from core muscle surgery and was activated from injured reserve Thursday, so he'll join Davante Adams and Allen Lazard in three-wide sets Saturday.
Jan 20, 2022
Likely out for divisional round
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Thursday that Valdes-Scantling (back) will be listed as doubtful for Saturday's divisional-round game versus the 49ers, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Even with the benefit of a first-round bye for the postseason, Valdes-Scantling hasn't been able to shake off the back injury he picked up in the Packers' Week 18 loss to the Lions. He began the week as a limited participant in practice Tuesday, but he was listed as a non-participant in Wednesday's session and wasn't on the field for the open portion of Thursday's practice, per Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site. Valdes-Scantling's downgrade in activity the past two days coupled with LaFleur's comments suggest that the wideout may have suffered a setback in his recovery from the injury. Allen Lazard and Equanimeous St. Brown will likely be tasked with replacing Valdes-Scantling as the Packers' main downfield threats, while Randall Cobb (groin) -- who is expected to be activated from injured reserve -- could have a regular role in three-receiver sets as Green Bay's primary slot man.
Jan 19, 2022
DNP on Wednesday
Valdes-Scantling (back) was held out of practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
One day removed from logging a limited session, Valdes-Scantling fell back to his activity level from last Wednesday's unofficial practice due to the back issue he picked up in the regular-season finale at Detroit. Ultimately, Thursday's injury report will be telling for his potential to suit up for Saturday's divisional-round game against the 49ers.
Jan 18, 2022
Limited in return to practice
Valdes-Scantling (back) was limited at Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was removed from a Week 18 loss to the Lions in the second quarter and eventually diagnosed with a back injury. He wasn't a part of the Packers' unofficial session last Wednesday, but with a week to rest up he's back on the field with a cap on his reps. Valdes-Scantling will have two more chances to get back to full before the team potentially gives him a designation for Saturday's divisional-round game against the 49ers.
Jan 18, 2022
Practicing Wednesday
Valdes-Scantling (back) took part in practice Wednesday, Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
The bye week appears to have treated the Packers well, as a number of key players on both the active roster and injured reserve mixed into drills at the media-access portion of Wednesday's session. Valdes-Scantling himself is dealing with a back issue that he suffered in the regular-season finale and kept him off the practice field last week. Wednesday's injury report will reveal his activity level.
Jan 12, 2022
Not at practice
Valdes-Scantling (back) didn't practice Wednesday, Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling apparently isn't ready for practice three days after injuring his back in the second quarter of Green Bay's regular-season finale, but he does have extra time to get ready with his team on bye in the first round of the playoffs. If Valdes-Scantling isn't ready for the next round, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb (IR/groin) will be the top candidates to take on extra snaps/targets.
Jan 9, 2022
Picks up back injury
Valdes-Scantling departed Sunday's game at Detroit with a back injury, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to heading to the locker room in the second quarter, Valdes-Scantling was unable to haul in his only target from Aaron Rodgers. The Packers thus are left with Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, Equanimeous St. Brown, Juwann Winfree and Amari Rodgers at wide receiver for the rest of Week 18. Valdes-Scantling will have a week to rest and recover in advance of the team's playoff opener in the divisional round.
Jan 3, 2022
Quiet in return
Valdes-Scantling was targeted three times and caught one pass for three yards in Sunday's 37-10 victory over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling returned to action after spending Week 16 on the reserve/COVID-19 list, and he played about as many snaps as he was handling prior to his absence. However, the Packers leaned heavily on four other players and Valdes-Scantling made only a blip in the box score. Valdes-Scantling remains a boom-or-bust fantasy option, and his prospects will be tilted toward the latter in Week 18, as starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers (toe) could be limited or held out altogether with the Packers' sewing up the NFC's No. 1 seed.
Dec 29, 2021
Off of COVID-19 list
The Packers activated Valdes-Scantling (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling sat out the Packers' Week 16 win against the Browns after testing positive for the virus last Tuesday, marking his sixth absence of the campaign. Per usual, his production has been sporadic on a weekly basis when available, with a respectable 25-427-3 line on 51 targets in nine appearances. Valdes-Scantling will rejoin Allen Lazard as the co-No. 2s behind top wide receiver Davante Adams.
Dec 21, 2021
Added to COVID-19 list
The Packers placed Valdes-Scantling on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
He becomes the second Green Bay player added to the list, joining defensive tackle Kenny Clark. Green Bay hasn't clarified whether Valdes-Scantling tested positive for the virus, but unless he's unvaccinated, the wideout will still have a chance at being cleared ahead of Saturday's game against the Browns if he's asymptomatic of the virus. The 27-year-old is coming off a big Week 15 outing against the Ravens in which he recorded five receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown on seven targets.
Dec 19, 2021
Big game Sunday
Valdes-Scantling caught five of seven targets for 98 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 31-30 win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling enjoyed one of his best performances of the season on a day when top wideout Davante Adams was limited to just 44 yards. Along with matching Adams' team-leading target tally, Valdes-Scantling went for long gains of 31 and 25 yards, with the latter catch coming on a third-and-nine play to begin the fourth quarter. Fittingly, Valdes-Scantling then scored from 11 yards to cap that series, marking his third touchdown of the campaign. After Sunday's encouraging outing, Valdes-Scantling will strive to keep his momentum going in Week 16 versus the Browns.
Dec 19, 2021
Active for Week 15
Valdes-Scantling (back) is listed as active Sunday in Baltimore, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After a week in which his practice reps were capped due to a back injury, Valdes-Scantling will be available to the Packers offense Week 15. Working alongside top wide receiver Davante Adams doesn't allow for consistent volume, but Valdes-Scantling and fellow secondary option Allen Lazard will aim to exploit a Ravens defense that has conceded 8.6 yards per target (seventh worst in the NFL) and 12 touchdowns (tied for 15th most) to the position in 13 games this season.
Dec 17, 2021
Questionable after limited practice
Valdes-Scantling (back) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Baltimore, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
He appears on track to play after logging limited practices throughout the week. With Randall Cobb (groin) on IR for at least two more games and likely the rest of the regular season, both Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard have been in full-time roles alongside Davante Adams. The Packers and Ravens are scheduled for a 4:25 ET kickoff Sunday, with Amari Rodgers, Malik Taylor (abdomen) and Juwan Winfree the options to fill in at WR if Valdes-Scantling is inactive or limited.
Dec 16, 2021
Another limited listing Thursday
Valdes-Scantling (back) was limited at Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling maintained his listing from Wednesday's estimated injury report. He has one more session remaining during Week 15 prep, after which the Packers may give him a designation ahead of Sunday's game in Baltimore.
Dec 15, 2021
Limited by back issue
Valdes-Scantling (back) was listed as limited on Wednesday's estimated injury report, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling has been hit or miss in his eight appearances this season, with two outings of more than 50 yards plus one touchdown, and every other game but one falling short of those thresholds. He and Allen Lazard are the co-No. 2 wide receivers behind top dog Davante Adams, but Valdes-Scantling's status now is one to monitor as Week 15 prep goes on.
Dec 13, 2021
Catches three passes
Valdes-Scantling was targeted five times and caught three passes for 20 yards in Sunday's 45-30 victory over the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling caught at least three passes for the third game in a row, but he also took a clear back seat to both Davante Adams and Allen Lazard in Week 14. Valdes-Scantling has been plenty busy of late, racking up 24 targets over his last three games and playing at least two-thirds of the snaps in each contest, but he also caught just 11 passes during that span, and 75 of the 193 yards he tallied came on one play. He will take on a depleted Ravens secondary in Week 15, but he will presumably be a boom-or-bust option in fantasy lineups.
Nov 28, 2021
Commands nine targets
Valdes-Scantling recorded four receptions on nine targets for 50 yards in Sunday's 36-28 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling finished tied for the team lead with nine targets and likely benefited from the absence of Randall Cobb (groin) in the second half. Nevertheless, Valdes-Scantling now has 19 targets combined across his last two games. He continued to serve as a deep threat for the team, as he recorded a 28-yard reception early in the third quarter. As a result of that reception, Valdes-Scantling now has at least one reception of 20 or more yards in three consecutive games and has topped 40 total receiving yards on each occasion.
Nov 21, 2021
Rips off 75-yard TD
Valdes-Scantling had four receptions on 10 targets for 123 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-31 loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling moved into the starting lineup with Allen Lazard (shoulder) missing the contest. The 27-year-old took full advantage of the opportunity, breaking off a 75-yard touchdown while nearly matching his total season output in just one game. Lazard's status for Week 12 is still up in the air, so Valdes-Scantling could get another start alongside Davante Adams against the Rams. That scenario could result in another high-usage game for MVS if the latter has to deal with Jalen Ramsey.
Nov 19, 2021
Ready to face Vikings
Valdes-Scantling (hip) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Vikings, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was limited in practice Friday for the second day in a row due to the hip issue, but the Packers weren't concerned enough about the injury to deem him questionable heading into the weekend. Meanwhile, Allen Lazard (shoulder) is listed as doubtful for the Week 11 contest, so Valdes-Scantling should have a clear path to a regular spot in three-receiver sets alongside No. 1 option Davante Adams and slot man Randall Cobb. Valdes-Scantling, Lazard and Cobb had split work as the Nos. 2 and 3 receivers in last week's win over the Seahawks, with the snap shares of all three players hovering between 59 and 67 percent.
Nov 18, 2021
Dealing with hip issue
Valdes-Scantling was limited at Thursday's practice due to a hip injury, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling already has had a stint on injured reserve this season, sitting out Weeks 4-8 due to a hamstring issue. In two games since his return to action, he's gathered in three of four passes for 60 yards and no scores. Valdes-Scantling wasn't listed on Wednesday's practice report, so his appearance Thursday is somewhat concerning. In the end, though, the Packers may clear up his status following Friday's session.
Nov 14, 2021
Makes one catch
Valdes-Scantling caught one pass for 42 yards on two targets against Seattle on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
That Valdes-Scantling saw just two targets indicates the Seahawks were taking the deep threat seriously. It's the one card that MVS can always count on, but when defenses take it away he sometimes goes cold for stretches. Valdes-Scantling might not be consistent in this role, but he won't stay cold forever. The Vikings will have to take him seriously in Week 11.
Nov 8, 2021
Two receptions in return
Valdes-Scantling was targeted twice and caught two passes for 19 yards in Sunday's 13-7 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
After missing five games with a hamstring injury, Valdes-Scantling returned to action in Week 9. He was on the field for over half of the 63 plays run by the Packers' offense, but his opportunities to contribute were minimal. Valdes-Scantling averaged 5.3 targets in the three games he missed prior to his absence, and he -- like all Packers pass catchers -- should benefit when starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers is back in the fold. However, fantasy players will want to see more from Valdes-Scantling before adding him to lineups, as he has finished with 19 or fewer yards three times in his four appearances this season
Nov 6, 2021
Activated off IR
Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) was activated off injured reserve and is eligible to play Sunday against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
The Packers receiving core is now back to full strength with Davante Adams and Allen Lazard both returning from the reserve/COVID-19 list, but they'll obviously be without star quarterback Aaron Rodgers who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week. The speedy wide receiver brings a much-needed deep threat to the Packers offense, but it's unclear how different this version of the offense will be with Jordan Love slated to make his first career start.
Nov 1, 2021
Returns to practice
Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) was designated to return from injured reserve Monday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was a game-time decision for Thursday's contest against Arizona but was ultimately unable to suit up. However, he returned to the practice field Monday for the first time since early October. Although Davante Adams (illness) was unable to practice Monday, Allen Lazard (undisclosed) was on the field, signaling that the Packers' receivers are nearing a return to full strength.
Oct 28, 2021
Not activated Thursday
The Packers didn't activate Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) from injured reserve ahead of Thursday's game at Arizona, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Green Bay thus will be without three of its top wide receivers, including Davante Adams (illness) and Allen Lazard (undisclosed), both of whom are on the reserve/COVID-19 list. With the trio sidelined Week 8, Randall Cobb, Equanimeous St. Brown, Malik Taylor, Amari Rodgers and Juwann Winfree will serve at the team's WR options.
Oct 28, 2021
Unlikely to be activated Thursday
Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) is trending toward an absence for Thursday's game at Arizona, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
If the preceding comes to pass, the Packers will be without their top three wide receivers, as both Davante Adams and Allen Lazard are on the reserve/COVID-19 list and slated to be unavailable as well. Valdes-Scantling is in the later stages of his recovery from a hamstring injury and has missed the requisite three games while on IR, but it appears Green Bay will wait another week before bringing him back to the active roster. With the aforementioned trio out, the Packers' wide receiving corps will be comprised of Randall Cobb, Equanimeous St. Brown, Malik Taylor and Amari Rodgers on Thursday.
Oct 27, 2021
Headed for game-day decision
Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) is traveling to Arizona for Thursday's game against the Cardinals and hopes to play, potentially setting up a game-day decision, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.
ANALYSIS
The Packers have until 4 p.m. ET on Thursday to activate Valdes-Scantling from injured reserve for the game. They might've been inclined to wait another week, until Davante Adams and Allen Lazard both landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. With the team's wideout group severely depleted, Valdes-Scantling is hoping to play in Thursday's game without first completing a practice, after missing the past three weeks due to a hamstring injury. It's a situation where a pitch count would make sense, though he could still see plenty of targets on limited snaps if his hamstring feels okay and the Packers don't have Adams in the lineup.
Oct 25, 2021
Could return Thursday
Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) has a chance to return for Thursday's game against the Cardinals, Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling has missed the last four weeks with a hamstring issue, but he participated in running drills Monday. Coach Matt LaFleur said the 27-year-old will be evaluated Tuesday to see how he feels, but he seems to have a good chance to return to game action against Arizona if he isn't feeling sore.
Oct 2, 2021
Moved to IR
Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.
ANALYSIS
This was hardly a surprise given Valdes-Scantling was expected to miss a couple of weeks. Equanimeous St. Brown was elevated to the active roster from the practice squad, but it's likely Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and Amari Rodgers will see an increased workload alongside usual stalwart Davante Adams.
Oct 1, 2021
Likely out for a few weeks
The Packers are expected to place Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) on injured reserve, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Once Green Bay makes the move official, Valdes-Scantling will miss at least the next three games due to the hamstring injury that he suffered this past Sunday in San Francisco. However, when the clock starts to tick on his absence remains to be seen. If he lands on IR on Saturday, he'll be sidelined through at least Week 6 at Chicago. With Valdes-Scantling out of the picture for the time being, Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb, Amari Rodgers and Malik Taylor will pick up the slack behind top wide receiver Davante Adams, while Equanimeous St. Brown, Juwann Winfree and Chris Blair are candidates to be called up from the practice squad on a weekly basis.
Oct 1, 2021
Won't play against Steelers
Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Steelers, Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
With Valdes-Scantling sidelined, the Packers' offense won't have the element of his speed to take the top off the Steelers' defense, though top receiver Davante Adams is no slouch when it comes to making plays downfield and Allen Lazard is capable of doing so as well. MVS will look to heal up enough to return to the field in Week 5 against the Bengals.

Logging another absence Thursday
Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) won't participate in practice Thursday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling pulled up on a route in the fourth quarter of this past Sunday's win in San Francisco. He's been held out of both sessions this week as he tends to a hamstring injury, which isn't believed to be a long-term issue following an MRI, coach Matt LaFleur told Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com on Thursday. The Packers are expected to take a decision on Valdes-Scantling down to the wire, so his status for Week 4 against the Steelers may not be known until 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
Sep 29, 2021
Week 4 status to come down to wire
Coach Matt LaFleur said the Packers will need all week to know whether Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) will be able to suit up Sunday versus the Steelers, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of the hamstring injury suffered by Valdes-Scantling late in the Packers' Week 3 win at San Francisco, he was unable to practice Wednesday. He has two more opportunities to get on the field this week, which will be key for the fourth-year wide receiver to put himself in a position to play Week 4. If Valdes-Scantling needs some time off, Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb figure to pick up the slack alongside top wide receiver Davante Adams.
Sep 29, 2021
No practice Wednesday
Valdes-Scantling (hamstring) didn't take part in practice Wednesday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling merely was a spectator, which could indicate the hamstring pull he sustained late in the Packers' Week 3 win at San Francisco may not be severe. In any case, with a DNP to begin the week, he's behind the eight ball in his quest to suit up this Sunday against the Steelers. Valdes-Scantling will have two more chances to practice before that contest.
Sep 26, 2021
Hurts hamstring Sunday night
Valdez-Scantling (hamstring) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Valdez-Scantling pulled up while running a deep route, but the Packers caught a break when fellow wide receiver Davante Adams returned to the game on the next play after Adams had gone to the medical tent due to a big hit over the middle. Prior to getting hurt, MVS was in the midst of a strong bounce-back performance, with three catches for 59 yards and a touchdown on four targets.
Sep 21, 2021
Goose egg in Week 2
Valdes-Scantling was targeted four times but did not make a catch in Monday night's 35-17 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling had a frustrating outing, but not really by any fault of his own. His first target was a broken up pass along the sideline, then quarterback Aaron Rodgers missed him with a would-be one-yard touchdown later on. Valdes-Scantling subsequently was overthrown by Rodgers on two attempted deep shots in the second half when he had a step on his man, overall making for a goose egg from the wideout even though he got open for some decent opportunities. He and Rodgers will hope to get their timing down ahead of Week 3's matchup versus the 49ers.
Sep 13, 2021
Contained in Week 1
Valdes-Scantling was targeted seven times and caught three passes for 17 yards in Sunday's loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling led the NFL in yards per reception a season ago, but the Saints prevented him from getting loose for even one big play down the field. On the positive side, Valdes-Scantling did tie Davante Adams for the team lead in targets and was on the field for just four fewer snaps than the Packers' top wideout, so there is reason to believe he can get going in Week 2 against the Lions.
Aug 14, 2021
Will be held out Saturday
Valdes-Scantling will not play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Texans, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling is currently listed as a starter on the Packers' depth chart, so it should come as little surprise that he will sit out alongside starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Jan 24, 2021
Hauls in long touchdown
Valdes-Scantling recorded four receptions on six targets for 115 yards and one touchdown in a loss in Sunday's NFC Championship Game.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling opened the scoring for the Packers with a 50-yard touchdown reception early in the second quarter. He also connected with Aaron Rodgers for a number of other big gains, including receptions of 29 and 24 yards. The performance marked only the second time that he surpassed 100 yards in either a regular season or postseason contest during the 2020 campaign. Valdes-Scantling will enter the 2021 season in the final year of his rookie contract.
Jan 3, 2021
Mixed performance in win
Valdes-Scantling caught two of three targets for 87 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 35-16 win over the Bears. He also rushed once for four yards.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling broke the game open with a 72-yard touchdown catch on a third down midway through the second quarter. Following halftime, the speedster again got wide open deep downfield, but Valdes-Scantling dropped what would've been a 53-yard touchdown, shifting momentum back for a stretch during the second half. Despite his inconsistency throughout the campaign, Valdes-Scantling has been a dynamic vertical threat, leading the league with nearly 21 yards per reception while scoring six times. He'll now aim to minimize his mistakes as Green Bay embarks on the playoffs.
Dec 28, 2020
Fourth goose egg in five games
Valdes-Scantling was not targeted in Sunday's victory over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling played just as many snaps (41) as Allen Lazard and just six fewer than Davante Adams, but he was limited to decoy duty in Week 16. Valdes-Scantling has had his moments this season, and he racked up 85 yards and a score as recently as Week 14. However, he also finished without a reception in four of the Packers' last five contests, including the team's Week 12 victory over the Bears. Valdes-Scantling and the Packers will face the same Chicago team in their regular-season finale next weekend.
Dec 20, 2020
Shut out in Week 15
Valdes-Scantling was targeted once but did not record a touch in Saturday's victory over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Both Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard started alongside Davante Adams on Saturday night, and while Lazard had his most yards in a game since Week 3, Valdes-Scantling was held without a catch for the third time in four games. Lazard also played more snaps than Valdes-Scantling for the first time since that same Week 3 contest. The Packers will face a below-average Titans pass defense in Week 16, but with three goose eggs in his last four games and his snap count in decline, Valdes-Scantling will have minimal appeal to those competing in or trying to reach the championship game in their leagues.
Dec 13, 2020
Bounces back with strong Week 15
Valdes-Scantling secured all six of his targets for 85 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 31-24 win against the Lions.
ANALYSIS
After being held scoreless for a second consecutive outing last Sunday afternoon against the Eagles, Valdes-Scantling provided his third-greatest receiving total of the 2020 campaign during a road trip to Detroit. Also notable, Valdes-Scantling doubled the target share of Allen Lazard during Week 14, a change of events after Lazard out-targeted the South Florida product 14-8 over the Packers' preceding three games. Given an array of huge fantasy weeks contrasted by three zero-catch performances this season, Valdes-Scantling represents a high-risk, high-reward proposition as the Packers prepare to host the Panthers in Week 15.
Dec 7, 2020
Held catchless in second straight
Valdes-Scantling did not haul in either of his two targets in Sunday's victory over the Eagles and finished the contest with one carry for negative-4 yards.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling would have had a better day had he hauled in a long pass downfield, but he was ultimately held without a reception for the second week in a row. Valdes-Scantling was on the field for 75 percent of the plays the Packers ran Sunday, but that number declined for the third week in a row. Valdes-Scantling will have some big-play potential in Week 14 against a porous Lions secondary, but with his snap count and production both trending in the wrong direction, he's going to be tough to trust in playoff lineups.
Nov 30, 2020
Not targeted in Week 12 win
Valdes-Scantling was not targeted in Sunday's victory over the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was on the field for a shade under 80 percent of the plays the Packers ran in Week 12, but he was limited solely to blocking and decoy duties and was held without a catch for the second time this season. Valdes-Scantling's production has declined since Allen Lazard returned to action in Week 11, and with the Packers' offense just about at full speed, Valdes-Scantling figures to continue playing a complementary role.
Nov 29, 2020
Suiting up Week 12
Valdes-Scantling (Achilles) is active for Sunday's game versus the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling appeared on the injury report as a limited participant Thursday and didn't practice at all Friday, the result of an Achilles concern. Despite the lack of reps to end the week, he'll be available to the Packers offense, but his workload remains to be seen. Davante Adams and Allen Lazard should serve as the team's top two wide receivers, with Valdes-Scantling, Equanimeous St. Brown (knee), Darrius Shepherd and Malik Taylor on hand for any reps that linger.
Nov 27, 2020
Questionable after missed practice
Valdes-Scantling (Achilles) was held out of Friday's practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bears.
ANALYSIS
He was a midweek addition to the injury report, listed as limited in Thursday's practice. If Valdes-Scantling were to miss Sunday's game, Allen Lazard likely would take over as the No. 2 receiver, with Darrius Shepherd, Equanimeous St. Brown (knee) and Malik Taylor providing depth. The Packers don't play until Sunday night, so it could be a tricky situation for anyone planning to start MVS in a fantasy lineups.
Nov 26, 2020
Picks up Achilles injury
Valdes-Scantling was limited in practice Thursday due to an Achilles injury, Olivia Reiner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Making a sudden appearance on the Packers' injury report midweek isn't a great sign for Valdes-Scantling's status, especially considering the nature of the injury. Still, he was one of three Packers receivers -- also, Allen Lazard (core) and Equanimeous St. Brown (knee) -- to be limited Thursday, while Davante Adams (ankle) didn't practice at all. Friday's injury could be telling for the breakdown of Green Bay's receiving corps for Sunday's contest versus the Bears.
Nov 22, 2020
Key fumble in defeat
Valdes-Scantling recorded three receptions on six targets for 55 yards in Week 11 against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling continued with his deep threat role, as the majority of his production came on a 47-yard reception late in the fourth quarter to set up a game-tying field goal. However, he also had the game-deciding error, fumbling after a short gain in overtime that put the Colts in field-goal position. Overall, Valdes-Scantling held onto his role as Aaron Rodgers' second receiver, though that could change in Week 12 against the Bears as Allen Lazard will be another game removed from his core injury.
Nov 15, 2020
Twists and turns for 78-yard TD
Valdes-Scantling corralled four of six targets for 149 receiving yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 24-20 win against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling hauled in a deep Aaron Rodgers pass down the right sideline, swinging all the way across the field left to out-maneuver three Jaguar defenders after the catch, even deploying one referee as a convoy en route to a breakthrough score for the Packers at the 14:47 mark of the second quarter. By virtue of the game-breaking play, Valdes-Scantling concluded the contest with more than double the receiving production of Davante Adams. Valdes-Scantling has now compiled three touchdowns over his past two outings heading into a Week 11 matchup against Indianapolis.
Nov 6, 2020
Maximizes both catches
Valdes-Scantling secured two of four targets for 53 yards and two touchdowns in the Packers' 34-17 win over the 49ers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was once again in the highly familiar role of playing clear second fiddle to Davante Adams, but he still managed to reward fantasy managers with a productive showing with his touchdown grabs of 52 and one yard in the second and third quarter, respectively. The pair of scores were MVS's first visits to the end zone since Week 1, however, and with Allen Lazard (abdomen) projected to return for a Week 10 matchup against the Jaguars in 10 days, the former's fantasy glory may well be short-lived.
Nov 2, 2020
Quiet again in Week 8
Valdes-Scantling caught one pass for 19 yards and had one carry for four yards in Sunday's loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling got a chance to run the ball for the second straight week, but he was again quiet in the passing game despite being on the field for all but 13 of the 75 plays run by the Packers' offense. Valdes-Scantling has ran as the Packers' No. 2 receiver since Allen Lazard (abdomen) landed on injured reserve, but he has not run with the opportunity, totaling just 96 receiving yards and 13 rushing yards in the four games Lazard has missed. Valdes-Scantling could hold onto that spot for another game with the Packers on a short week, but with him producing minimally and likely to lose snaps when Lazard returns in the near future, there is not much reason to be optimistic about Valdes-Scantling's fantasy prospects moving forward.
Oct 26, 2020
No receptions in Week 7
Valdes-Scantling did not catch a pass in Sunday's victory over the Texans but did have one carry for nine yards.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling played by far the second-most snaps among Packers wideouts and was targeted four times, but he ultimately only ended up with the lone touch on the ground. Valdes-Scantling should continue seeing the field plenty until Allen Lazard (abdomen) returns, and his next matchup will come against a Vikings team he recorded 96 yards and a score against in Week 1. However, with just 91 yards from scrimmage over his last four games it's tough to trust Valdes-Scantling in fantasy lineups right now.
Oct 19, 2020
Bottled up by Buccaneers
Valdes-Scantling was targeted five times and caught three passes for 32 yards in Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling wound up playing the most snaps among Packers receivers in Week 6, but he was held in check by a Tampa team that allowed quarterback Aaron Rodgers to complete just 16 passes before coming out of the game. It's encouraging for Valdes-Scantling's fantasy prospects that he played 84 percent of the snaps for the third straight game, but what isn't so promising are his averages of 2.8 receptions and 36.5 yards per contest -- not to mention his zero touchdowns -- since his outstanding work in Week 1.
Oct 6, 2020
Makes four grabs
Valdes-Scantling caught four of eight targets for 45 yards in Monday night's 30-16 win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling spearheaded Green Bay's receiving corps on a night when top options Davante Adams (hamstring) and Allen Lazard (abdomen) were both sidelined. While their absences enabled Valdes-Scantling to garner a season high in targets, it was tight end Robert Tonyan and tailback Jamaal Williams who paced the Packers in yards, as both came close to 100. Although Valdes-Scantling helped move the sticks here and there, his final output wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Nonetheless, his experience Monday should help as he prepares to start alongside Adams once Green Bay returns from its Week 5 bye.
Sep 28, 2020
Fails to capitalize on opportunity
Valdes-Scantling caught just one of four targets for five yards in Sunday's 37-30 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Davante Adams (hamstring) was unable to suit up for this primetime matchup, opening the door for either Valdes-Scantling or Allen Lazard to grasp the No. 1 wideout role. The latter was able to seize the opportunity, posting a monstrous 6-146-1 line. Aaron Rodgers is looking like his former MVP self again, so there should be enough balls to go around for all three of the Packers' top three receivers in most matchups. That said, it has become clear that Valdes-Scantling is third in the pecking order when all three starters are healthy. The 25-year-old's fantasy prospects would rise in a favorable matchup if Adams is forced to miss next Monday's matchup against the Falcons.
Sep 20, 2020
Three catches as Adams hurts hammy
Valdes-Scantling caught three of seven targets for 64 yards in Sunday's 42-21 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was one target and four yards short of Aaron Jones' team-leading totals as No. 1 wide receiver Davante Adams left the game with a hamstring injury. If Adams can't go in Week 3 against the Saints, Valdes-Scantling would be an enticing fantasy option as Aaron Rodgers' top target on the outside.
Sep 13, 2020
Scores in season-opening win
Valdes-Scantling secured four of six targets for 96 yards and a touchdown in the Packers' 43-34 win over the Vikings on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The oft-maligned third-year wideout, who disappeared for long stretches last season, was a surprising beneficiary of a prolific passing day by Aaron Rodgers on Sunday. Valdes-Scantling was a distant second to Davante Adams in both receptions and receiving yards on the Packers, but he locked in a productive fantasy day courtesy of a pretty 45-yard scoring grab with 14 seconds remaining in the first half. The strong start to the season is a welcome sight for Green Bay's third receiver, and he'll look to carry over the momentum into a Week 2 home battle versus the Lions next Sunday.
Sep 8, 2020
Enters season third on depth chart
The Packers list Valdes-Scantling as their No. 3 receiver on their first unofficial depth chart heading into Sunday's season opener at Minnesota, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Though his chances of cracking a regular role in the Packers' three-receiver formations increased greatly after Devin Funchess opted out of the 2020 season, Valdes-Scantling still had to earn a starting role in training camp. He appears to have done just that, beating out Equanimeous and Malik Taylor for the No. 3 job. Even if Valdes-Scantling resumes handling the 60-plus-percent snap shares he routinely enjoyed in the first half of the 2019 season, he'll still likely be a tertiary option in the passing game behind top wideouts Davante Adams and Allen Lazard and running back Aaron Jones.
Aug 17, 2020
Packers remain hopeful
According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, the Packers are "counting on Valdes-Scantling rediscovering his health and confidence" and filling the No. 3 receiver spot on the depth chart.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling got off to a fine start in 2019, tallying 21 receptions, 416 receiving yards and two scores over his first seven games. However, he went dormant after that, tallying just 36 yards the rest of the way while battling lower-leg injuries and losing his spot in the offense. Despite the poor finish, Valdes-Scantling has shown flashes both years he has played in the league, and the Packers are banking on him bouncing back from last season's quiet second half. He will have to earn his spot, though, with a host of other players competing for the No. 3 job behind Davante Adams and Allen Lazard.
Jan 20, 2020
Falls well short of expectations
Valdes-Scantling finished with 26 catches for 452 yards and two touchdowns over 16 regular-season games in 2019.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling started the season as the inherent No. 2 wide receiver behind Davante Adams, and the team expected big things out of the second-year pro after showing flashes of a deep threat in his rookie campaign. The 25-year-old was still good for a few deep balls, recording 17.4 yards per catch, but he slowly saw his playing time drop as the season went on until he logged just six offensive snaps between two playoff games. He ceded duties to Allen Lazard, Geronimo Allison and Jake Kumerow -- all undrafted free agents. Valdes-Scantling -- a 2018 fifth-round pick -- has two years remaining on his rookie contract, but he'll struggle to carve out a role in 2020. The Packers will likely have Equanimeous St. Brown (ankle) back in the fold, and they'll surely re-sign Lazard while Allison and Kumerow could be options as well. That's not to mention the likelihood they pick a receiver or two in the draft. MVS has the raw talent to retain a roster spot with a 4.37-second 40, but he'll need to show improvement this
Jan 13, 2020
Catches one pass in victory
Valdes-Scantling was targeted once and had one reception for eight yards in Sunday's divisional round win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling appeared to sit fourth on the depth chart at the wide receiver position heading into the playoffs, but he operated as the fifth receiver Sunday, taking the field for just five offensive plays.
Nov 8, 2019
Cleared for Week 10
Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After kicking off the week with back-to-back limited practice sessions, Valdes-Scantling capped it off with a full showing. While his Week 10 opponent (the Panthers) have allowed wide receivers to post just 7.1 yards per target this season, the unit has otherwise yielded 180 receiving yards per game to the position, making Valdes-Scantling a decent enough play Sunday.
Nov 7, 2019
Gets 'limited' tag Thursday
Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Olivia Reiner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Since going off for a season-best 133 receiving yards Week 7, Valdes-Scantling has hauled in just one of four targets for four yards over the last two games. He's been tending to ankle and knee injuries during that span, so there is a built-in excuse for his lack of production. No matter, Davante Adams (toe) is back in action, which should begin to free up Valdes-Scantling for deep shots once he gets healthier.
Nov 6, 2019
Practice reps capped Wednesday
Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) was limited at Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
In Sunday's loss to the Chargers, Valdes-Scantling failed to record a reception for the first time since Week 3 of the 2018 season. Granted, Davante Adams (toe) was back in action, and the Packers mustered just 184 yards of offense, but the output was disappointing, to say the least. Before Valdes-Scantling gets another chance to make an impression on the box score, he'll look to put in a full practice before the end of the week.
Nov 1, 2019
Enters Week 9 minus designation
Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) practiced fully Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
After a pair of limited showings in practice to begin the week, Valdes-Scantling erased any concerns about his health by taking every rep in Friday's session. The 25-year-old should again have a role in the Packers' passing game in Week 9, but his snap and target counts could hinge on the potential return of top wideout Davante Adams (toe), who is being viewed as a game-time decision. Even while Adams has been out for the past four games, Valdes-Scantling has been a spotty contributor, catching only six balls for 203 yards, with 133 of those coming in Week 7.
Oct 31, 2019
Another limited practice
Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling's practice time in Week 8 was limited on account of the same two injuries, but neither prevented him from suiting up in the Packers' eventual win over the Chiefs. He finished with a season-low four receiving yards in that contest, and may not be in store for much of a bounce back in Week 9 against the Chargers, assuming he once again gains clearance to play. The Packers could get Davante Adams (toe) back from a four-game absence this weekend, leaving fewer targets to go around for secondary passing-game options like Valdes-Scantling.
Oct 30, 2019
Limited in practice
Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) was limited on Wednesday's estimated injury report, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling has been hit or miss this season, even with Davante Adams (toe) out of commission the past four games. During that span, most of Valdes-Scantling's production came on two long receptions against the Raiders in Week 7, hauling in six of 11 targets for 203 yards and one TD in the process. Adams returned to practice Wednesday, so Packers opponents may soon have to contend with the team's top wide receiver.
Oct 28, 2019
Takes back seat to running backs
Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) suited up and caught one pass (two targets) for four yards in Sunday's 31-24 win over the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling was cleared of his lower-body injuries prior to Sunday's matchup, so his lack of usage can be attributed to coach Matt LaFleur's gameplan to exploit Kansas City's linebackers with passes to running backs. The 25-year-old was coming off of a huge 133-yard performance, so Sunday's dud will leave a sour taste in fantasy owners' mouths. Valdes-Scantling was expected to take over top receiving duties while Davante Adams (toe) remains sidelined, but the wideout is averaging just 1.5 receptions and 2.8 targets in four games as a starter. It is unclear whether Adams will be able to return for Sunday's matchup against the Chargers, but even if he doesn't, expectations for MVS should be kept in check against a defense that is more susceptible to the run (21st-ranked defense) as opposed to the pass (5th).
Oct 25, 2019
Cleared to play
Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game in Kansas City, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling upgraded to full practice participation Friday, while Davante Adams (toe) was a non-participant and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game. Valdes-Scantling should be ready to get back to his usual workload, after catching two of three targets for 133 yards and a touchdown on just 33 percent of snaps last week against the Raiders. He played at least two-thirds of the snaps on offense in each of the Packers' first six games.
Oct 24, 2019
Downgrades to limited Thursday
Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) was limited at Thursday's practice, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite logging no practice reps last week, Valdes-Scantling still suited up this past Sunday against the Raiders, ripping off two catches (on three targets) for 133 yards and one touchdown while playing 33 percent of the offensive snaps. He was a full participant at Wednesday's walkthrough before taking a step back Thursday, so his status will be one to monitor as the weekend approaches.
Oct 20, 2019
Looking like game-time call
The Packers are optimistic that at least one of Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) and Geronimo Allison (concussion/chest) will be active for Sunday's game against the Raiders, but the team will evaluate both in pre-game warmups before deciding on the status of either receiver, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Though both receivers are listed as questionable, Valdes-Scantling may have the better chance at playing after Allison was only upgraded from doubtful Saturday. If Valdes-Scantling does end up suiting up, his effectiveness could be limited by the injury to some degree, but even a compromised version of himself may be enough to lead the Packers' receiving corps minus top target Davante Adams (toe) in Week 7.
Oct 18, 2019
Listed as questionable for Week 7
Valdes-Scantling (knee/ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Davante Adams (toe) is ruled out and Geronimo Allison (chest/concussion) is listed as doubtful. Valdes-Scantling is left as the team's only starting wide receiver with a decent shot to play, but he acknowledged earlier Friday that he still needs more medical treatment before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. EST kickoff. He's shaping up as a true game-time decision, after missing practice each day this week.
Oct 18, 2019
Hints at game-time call
Valdes-Scantling (knee/ankle) hinted at being a game-time decision, hoping additional treatment will allow him to play in Sunday's matchup with Oakland, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This supports recent comments from coach Matt LaFleur, who ruled out Davante Adams (toe) but noted that the Packers still have two more days to evaluate Valdes-Scantling and Geronimo Allison (chest/concussion). None of the three was able to practice in any capacity this week, but it sounds like Valdes-Scantling and Allison at least have some shot to play. MVS mentioned that his ankle and knee injuries are equally troublesome, noting that he made it through Monday's loss to the Lions on adrenaline. The Packers will release their final Week 7 injury report Friday afternoon.
Oct 18, 2019
Unable to return to practice
Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) isn't practicing Friday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The same goes for Davante Adams (toe) and Geronimo Allison (concussion/chest), potentially leaving the Packers without their top three wide receivers for Sunday's game against Oakland. The final injury report will be released Friday afternoon.
Oct 17, 2019
Doesn't practice Thursday
Valdez-Scantling (ankle/knee) didn't practice Thursday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdez-Scantling suffered undisclosed ankle and knee injuries when he was rolled up on during Monday's last-second victory against the Lions. While he was compromised, health-wise, he still played 77 percent of the snaps on offense en route to two receptions (on two targets) for 48 yards. The Packers' receiving corps is littered by injuries this week -- also, Davante Adams (toe), Geronimo Allison (concussion/chest), Jimmy Graham (ankle) and Robert Tonyan (hip) -- so whoever suits up could have plenty of opportunity to produce against the Raiders' 22nd-ranked pass defense.

Valdes-Scantling (ankle/knee) was listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's practice estimate, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Valdes-Scantling had his legs rolled up on during Monday's win against the Lions, but he toughed it out and still logged 77 percent of the Packers' offensive snaps by the end of the game. His production left something to be desired with Davante Adams out for a second consecutive contest -- two catches (on two targets) for 48 yards -- and Valdes-Scantling's own health now is a question mark. At the moment, the team's top three wide receivers (Geronimo Allison has a concussion) are dealing with injuries, which spurred the Packers to sign Ryan Grant on Wednesday.
