Modest numbers in Week 11 win
Stafford completed 15 of 28 passes for 130 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 21-19 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's yardage total dipped as both pass defenses stepped up in the battle for first place in the NFC West, but he avoided mistakes and improved his TD:INT to 22:0 over the past seven starts, while the Rams picked off Sam Darnold four times. Stafford threw a one-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams in the first quarter and a six-yard touchdown pass to Colby Parkinson in the fourth quarter. The Rams will likely lean more on Stafford's arm in Week 12 against a beatable Buccaneers secondary that just allowed six total touchdowns to fellow potential MVP candidate Josh Allen.

Reaches 400 career passing TDs
Stafford completed 24 of 36 pass attempts for 280 yards and four touchdowns while taking three kneel downs in Sunday's 42-26 win over San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's second touchdown strike was the 400th touchdown pass of his decorated career, becoming just the ninth quarterback in NFL history to reach that mark. The 37-year-old kept making history by becoming the first signal-caller to record at least four touchdown passes with no interceptions over three consecutive contests. Stafford's 25 touchdown passes represent his highest mark since the 41 he threw in the regular season the year the Rams won Super Bowl LVI. The 2009 first-overall pick is playing some of the best ball of his career heading into a crucial home tilt against the 7-2 Seahawks next Sunday.

Barrage of touchdowns continues
Stafford completed 24 of 32 passes for 281 yards, four touchdowns and zero interceptions in Sunday's 34-10 win over the Saints. He also had four rushes for minus-four yards.
ANALYSIS
Stafford had an exceptional performance on limited volume, completing five passes of at least 20 yards -- including a 39-yard strike down the right sideline while beating double-coverage for a touchdown to Puka Nacua (chest). Stafford converted an additional three touchdowns, coming from four, three, and one yard away. Even though Stafford threw only nine passes in the second half due to game script, he managed to turn in his fourth game with at least 275 passing yards and has three or more touchdowns in four of his last five matchups.

Sets international record Sunday
Stafford completed 21 of 33 pass attempts for 182 yards and five touchdowns while gaining one yard on two carries in Sunday's 35-7 London win against Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Puka Nacua's (ankle) absence likely created concerns for Stafford's managers heading into Sunday's overseas tilt against an up-and-coming Jacksonville defense. The veteran signal-caller proved that no Puka was no problem, hooking up with his other superstar wideout Davante Adams in the end zone thrice en route to a record-setting day. Stafford's five touchdown passes set a new single-game record for the NFL's International Series, which officially started back in 2007. The 37-year-old will enter the Rams' bye week completing 67 percent of his passes for 1,866 yards and 17 touchdowns to just two interceptions in seven starts for Los Angeles.
Oct 12, 2025
Limited volume in win
Stafford completed 17 of 26 passes for 181 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 17-3 win over the Ravens. He also fumbled twice, losing one.
ANALYSIS
Stafford had a fairly efficient performance, but it was a tough day for the Rams' offense as a whole. They possessed the ball for only 22:05, while also running their offense with a hobbled Puka Nacua (ankle) for nearly three-quarters of the contest. As a result, Stafford failed to throw for multiple touchdowns since Week 1 and also turned in his lowest yardage total of the season. His outlook for Week 7 against the Jaguars will depend relatively heavily on Nacua's availability.
Oct 3, 2025
Nears 400-yard mark in OT loss
Stafford completed 30 of 47 passes for 389 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing once for no gain in the Rams' 26-23 overtime loss to the 49ers on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Stafford averaged an impressive 8.3 yards per attempt and facilitated four tallies of over 65 receiving yards for his arsenal of pass catchers. The veteran signal-caller connected with Kyren Williams (14, eight yards) and Puka Nacua (one yard) for his trio of scoring tosses, his second consecutive such tally and fourth straight of multiple TD passes. Stafford's last two games have seen him clear 40 pass attempts, which is a significant departure from his first three contests of the campaign when he averaged 31.6 pass attempts per contest. Stafford will next take aim at an injury-ravaged Ravens defense in a Week 6 road matchup on Sunday, Oct. 12.
Sep 28, 2025
Clutch play in comeback win
Stafford completed 29 of 41 pass attempts for 375 yards and three touchdowns while taking four carries for as many yards in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Stafford pulled a vintage performance out of his bag of tricks Sunday, producing a stat line we haven't seen regularly since his prime years in Detroit. The Rams' offense hit the skids in the second half, resulting in a five-drive stretch that produced four consecutive three-and-outs followed by a Kyren Williams' fumble. That's when Stafford took it upon himself to lead an 11-play, 90-yard touchdown drive, immediately following it up with an 88-yard huge play to Tutu Atwell on the ensuing possession to seal the win for Los Angeles. The 37-year-old is proving that he still has plenty left in the tank by throwing for 1,114 yards and eight touchdowns to two interceptions through four starts in 2025. Up next for Stafford is a home matchup on a short week against the 49ers on Thursday Night Football in Week 5.
Sep 21, 2025
Two touchdowns against Eagles
Stafford completed 19 of 33 passes for 196 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 33-26 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Stafford and the Rams' offense left a lot on the table despite scoring 26 points. He threw an interception on the opening possession, then had a pair of drives stall inside the red zone in the first half. The end result was that Stafford averaged only 5.9 yards per attempt, though he also had some positives in the performance. Most notably, he connected with Davante Adams on a deep 44-yard score late in the first quarter, and he also found Kyren Williams for a 10-yard score on the opening drive of the third quarter. Stafford has multiple touchdowns in each of his last two games, and he should have the chance to bounce back from an efficiency perspective in Week 4 against the Colts.
Sep 14, 2025
Another strong performance
Stafford completed 23 of 33 passes for 298 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 33-19 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Stafford wasn't sharp in the first half, totaling only 106 yards while also throwing an interception just before halftime that set up a field goal for Tennessee. However, he completed three passes of at least 20 yards in the second half -- the longest of which was a 40-yard pass to Jordan Whittington -- and also capped two drives with touchdown passes of eight and 16 yards, respectively. Stafford has not appeared limited by a back injury that drew a lot of attention in the preseason, as he has averaged 8.8 yards per attempt with three touchdowns across two games.

Looks healthy in Week 1 win
Stafford (back) completed 21 of 29 pass attempts for 245 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 14-9 victory over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Stafford missed the entire preseason dealing with a minor back injury, getting cleared just in time to start the regular-season opener. The veteran signal-caller showed no ill effects under center, producing a 109.1 passer rating with no turnovers in a tight victory. With Davante Adams (4-51-0) replacing Cooper Kupp across star wideout Puka Nacua (10-130-0) this season, Stafford has one of the best WR duos at his disposal heading into next Sunday's road game against the Titans.
Sep 3, 2025
Not on injury report, will start Week 1
Stafford (back) isn't listed on the Rams' initial Week 1 practice report Wednesday, thus paving the way for him to start Sunday against the Texans, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After opening training camp as a non-participant due to a disc issue in his back, Stafford resumed practicing on Aug. 18 and has ramped up his activity level in the meantime to the point that L.A. didn't include him on the injury report at all to begin Week 1 prep. With his status clear ahead of this weekend, he'll be operating with skill-position group composed of RB Kyren Williams, WRs Puka Nacua and Davante Adams and TE Tyler Higbee.

In line to start Week 1
Rams coach Sean McVay said Monday that Stafford is expected to start Sunday's regular-season opener against the Texans, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has practiced in full since his return to the field Aug. 18, so while his being named the Week 1 starter was expected, McVay hadn't actually communicated the decision until now. With gameday now approaching, the 37-year-old quarterback could begin having a cap on his reps as a form of load management, but barring a tangible setback in his recovery from the back injury that caused him to miss most of training camp and the preseason, fantasy managers will be able to count on Stafford's presence under center, a notable development for Puka Nacua, Davante Adams and RB Kyren Williams. Per Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site, starting left tackle Alaric Jackson (tailbone/blood clots) is also expected to play Week 1.
Aug 25, 2025
Continues practicing in full
Stafford (back) was a full participant in Monday's practice, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford continues to stack 'full' practice sessions, and he again took part in 11-on-11 drills again Monday, per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com. At this stage, the 37-year-old looks fully on track for Week 1 as long any long as no setbacks in his recovery from the disc injury in his back surface. That Stafford has now logged five consecutive practice sessions without restrictions is highly encouraging, and coach Sean McVay said Monday that the Rams "feel really good" about the quarterback's return to on-field activities and that "[t]here's nothing that would leave me to believe, unless we have an unforeseen setback, that he's not going to be ready to roll against the Texans" on Sunday, Sept. 7, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Aug 21, 2025
Completes full week of practice
Rams coach Sean McVay said Thursday that Stafford (back) has been a full participant at practice this week and has "looked like the stud we know," Stu Jackson of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has had "no restrictions" at practice this week, per Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com, completing a fourth consecutive on-field session Thursday. Of course, Stafford being a full participant in practice doesn't necessarily indicate that Los Angeles has held full-contact sessions or that he has been completely cleared to participate in such activities, but Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports that stacking days is exactly what the Rams hoped the veteran signal-caller would accomplish this week, and that he appears on track to play Week 1 barring any setbacks. As expected though, McVay confirmed that Stafford won't travel with the team to Saturday's preseason finale against the Browns, per Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.
Aug 19, 2025
Practicing again Tuesday
Stafford (back) is dressed for practice Tuesday, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford is ready to log back-to-back practices after having retaken the field Monday. Head coach Sean McVay said Stafford's workload remains "a very fluid situation that demands flexibility," so it wouldn't be surprising to see the 37-year-old veteran regularly mix in rest days as the regular season approaches, but it's encouraging to see him continue ramping up without any pauses thus far, and getting some reps in with Puka Nacua and new starting wideout Davante Adams. An aggravated disc in his back had forced Stafford to sit out practice since June minicamp.
Aug 18, 2025
Rams taking things slowly
Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay said Monday, after Stafford (back) returned to practice and took part in 11-on-11 drills, that the team has "no updates" on the veteran quarterback's health and are "going to keep it a day, and really a week at a time, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
While it's certainly encouraging to see Stafford back on the practice field for the first time since June minicamp, and taking part in team drills at that, McVay cautioned that the 37-year-old is still doing "everything in his power" to get back and called it a "very fluid situation that demands flexibility." The Rams will take a cautious approach to ramping up Stafford's activity level as he works his way back from a lingering disc injury in his back, so after he was a full participant Monday it wouldn't be surprising to see him get rest as the week continues. "It was great to be able to see [Stafford] out there today," McVay said, "and we'll see how this afternoon goes, and tomorrow." Stafford still has nearly three weeks to get healthy in time for Week 1 against the Texans on Sun., Sept. 7, but per Brock Vierra of SI, McVay declined to comment Monday on whether he still expects the veteran quarterback to be ready for the regular-season opener. DaSilva confirms that Stafford won't be in consideration for Sa

Taking part in team drills
Stafford (back) is participating in 11-on-11 drills at Monday's practice, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford is not only participating in individual drills in his first practice session since June minicamp, but the veteran signal-caller is already taking part in team drills, a notable development with Jimmy Garoppolo having dominated first-team reps throughout training camp. Rams coach Sean McVay will provide an update on Stafford after Monday's practice, per Cameron DaSilva of USA Today, but this is the most encouraging development thus far the 37-year-old's disc injury in his back won't prevent him from being available Week 1. Nonetheless, Stafford will likely be held out of Saturday's preseason finale against the Browns.
Aug 18, 2025
Dressed for practice Monday
Stafford (back) is participating in Monday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Rams head coach Sean McVay didn't provide an update on Stafford's scheduled workout on Saturday, but it appears the veteran quarterback is feeling better after this weekend's reps than last weekend's, as he's now ready to take part in practice for the first time since late July. Even a heavily limited practice Monday would represent a tangible step in the right direction for Stafford, though it remains to be seen whether he'll be given the green light to participate in any team drills this early in his return to the field from a lingering disc issue in his back. Jimmy Garoppolo will continue to handle first-team reps if Stafford is limited to individual drills, but this development lends welcome credence to McVay's continued stated optimism that Stafford is expected to be ready for Week 1.
Aug 17, 2025
No update yet on Saturday's workout
The Rams didn't provide an update regarding Stafford's (back) scheduled workout Saturday, with assistant head coach Aubrey Pleasant deferring to coach Sean McVay's upcoming media session Monday to discuss the matter, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has yet to practice during training camp due to what initially was termed back soreness and more recently a disc issue in his back. After Stafford completed a workout without limitations last Saturday, McVay spoke in optimistic terms about the quarterback and an expectation that he'd get back on the field Monday, but that didn't come to pass. Stafford was scheduled for a similar workout this Saturday, but neither Pleasant nor a team spokesperson provided any insight into the situation, including whether it took place at all or if he was in attendance at SoFi Stadium for Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers. With three weeks to go until the Rams' season opener against the Texans on Sunday, Sept. 7, it remains unclear if Stafford will be available to direct the offense Week 1. In such a scenario, Jimmy Garoppolo would earn starts under center for as long as Stafford isn't available.
Aug 14, 2025
Another Saturday workout scheduled
Rams coach Sean McVay said Thursday that Stafford (back) will work out on Saturday, similarly to what he did before sitting out Los Angeles' preseason opener last weekend, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford hasn't yet practiced this week, despite McVay having indicated after a positive workout last Saturday, Aug. 9, that the veteran quarterback was on track to handle individual drills. "Hopefully [Stafford's back] responds a little bit better" after this coming workout, McVay said. That Stafford is set to reprise a similar workout plan confirms expectations that he'll sit out Saturday's preseason matchup against the Chargers, with the Rams likely hoping he returns to the field in at least a limited fashion next week to begin ramping up for Week 1 against the Texans on Sunday, Sept. 7. Regardless of McVay's apparent confidence that Stafford will be ready for the regular season, however, the early-round ADPs of wideouts Puka Nacua and Davante Adams will continue to slide until fantasy managers are able to see Stafford retake the practice field without setbacks.
Aug 12, 2025
Missing practice again
Stafford (back) isn't practicing Tuesday, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rams coach Sean McVay said Saturday that Stafford looked great during a workout and was on track to resume practicing Monday. That didn't happen, as Stafford didn't feel great after the workout and now remains out of practice for at least a few more days. McVay said there's been no discussion of surgery, adding that the team wants to be "flexible and fluid" while taking a cautious approach to Stafford's injury management. The Rams seemingly expect the 37-year-old QB to start Week 1, but fantasy managers aren't wrong to harbor a degree of doubt/concern now that Stafford's absence from practice has lingered well into August.
Aug 11, 2025
Opted out of practice
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Monday that Stafford (back) did not participate in practice because he didn't feel good enough coming off a workout Saturday, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
McVay had said Saturday that Stafford had no limitations in his workout and was expected to handle limited activity Monday, per Jackson, but he now mentioned a desire "to be flexible and fluid" while opting for caution and holding the veteran QB out of practice. Additionally, per Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register, McVay said it's unclear whether Stafford will practice Tuesday, and that the possibility of surgery as a potential treatment his aggravated disk "hasn't been a conversation that we've had." The red-light therapy chamber Stafford was spotted entering at team facilities Monday is also available to the entire roster, per Jackson, rather than having been brought in specifically for the veteran signal-caller's treatment. Jimmy Garoppolo will continue handling first-team reps until such time as Stafford retakes the field.
Aug 11, 2025
Not dressed for practice Monday
Stafford (back) is present at team facilities Monday but will not participate in practice, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Rams head coach Sean McVay said the plan was for Stafford to take part in at least individual drills Monday if his workout on Saturday went well, which it by all accounts did, so it's something of a surprise to see the veteran quarterback now in street clothes. That said, throughout training camp McVay has consistently demonstrated not only a tendency to approach Stafford's recovery with caution, but also to deviate from public commitments made about the team's approach to his rehab. There's no reason to yet believe that Safford's lack of participation Monday represents a setback in his recovery from the aggravated disk in his back, in other words. As has been the case since early training camp, Jimmy Garoppolo will continue handling first-team reps at practice.
Aug 9, 2025
Optimism after workout Saturday
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Saturday that Stafford (back) had no limitations in his workout earlier in the day and that the veteran QB looked great, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports. "Looking forward to progressing him back into practice on Monday," McVay stated.
ANALYSIS
An aggravated disc in his back has kept Stafford out of practice throughout the preseason, but it appears he is just about past the issue. McVay conveyed Thursday that Stafford would resume practicing Monday if his workout Saturday went well, and given the head coach's comments after the team's preseason win over Dallas, it seems likely that the star QB will indeed be able to get back on the field for Los Angeles' first practice of the week, though he will participate only in individual drills, per Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register. Jimmy Garoppolo has been handling first-team reps, but the expectation has always been that Stafford would be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.
Aug 7, 2025
Plan in place to practice Monday
Rams coach Sean McVay said Thursday that Stafford (back) will resume practicing Monday if his preliminary workout before Saturday's preseason opener against the Cowboys goes well, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
McVay emphasized that if Saturday's matchup against Dallas were a regular-season contest, Stafford would be able to take the field. The veteran quarterback has received an epidural to help manage an aggravated disk in his back, but Los Angeles' communications have consistently expressed that the expectation is for him to be available Week 1. Jimmy Garoppolo has handled first-team quarterback reps for roughly the last two weeks with Stafford sidelined, but barring any setbacks the Rams' starting QB will be back in the lineup to begin next week's practices, though Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports that he won't participate in joint practices with the Chargers.
Aug 6, 2025
Dealing with aggravated disc
Stafford (back), who is dealing with what NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports is an aggravated disc, remains week-to-week.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, Stafford has received an epidural to help him deal with the back issue that has sidelined him of late. For now, the Rams plan to proceed cautiously with the veteran QB, but the team plans for him to be ready for Week 1. In the meantime, Jimmy Garoppolo is next in line for first-team signal-caller reps.
Aug 3, 2025
Set to work off to side
Stafford (back) won't participate in the Rams' jog-through Monday, but will do a workout of his own off to the side, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has been working his way through a sore back during training camp, and he's unlikely to be active for Tuesday's joint practice with the Cowboys. As for Stafford's planned workout Monday, "It's static throwing. It's some of the unloaded running on the treadmill. Sometimes it might even be walking. Cardio and core," said head coach Sean McVay. The Rams have said all along that the plan is for the quarterback to be ready for the team's regular season opener against the Texans on Sept. 7.
Aug 2, 2025
Unlikely for joint practices
Stafford (back) is unlikely to participate in joint practices with the Cowboys next week, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Rams have taken a cautious approach with Stafford and reiterated that they have a plan in mind that will have their quarterback on the field for Week 1 against the Texans. That said, he doesn't appear likely to see the field much, if at all, in the early portions of August. Jimmy Garoppolo will see the majority of first-team reps in the meantime.
Jul 30, 2025
Confidence for Week 1
The Rams remain confident that Stafford (back) will be available Week 1, though he remains absent from practice Wednesday and the team has not provided an expected timetable for his return to the field, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Sean McVay has only referred to Stafford as "week-to-week" while acknowledging that internally Los Angeles has "a plan in place," but he at least said Tuesday he feels "very confident" that the veteran quarterback will take the field Sept. 7 versus the Texans for the Rams' regular-season opener. "What I don't want to do is set a timetable with you guys and then for whatever reason as we're continuing to gain information, that changes," McVay said. In the meantime, Jimmy Garoppolo will continue to handle first-team quarterback reps. It remains to be seen whether Stafford will be back on the field in time to participate in joint practices ahead of Los Angeles' first two preseason games, which will be against the Cowboys on Aug. 8 and the Chargers on Aug. 16.
Jul 26, 2025
Won't return to practice Monday
Rams coach Sean McVay said Saturday that Stafford (back) isn't going to return to practice Monday and is considered week-to-week, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has been dealing with a sore back since the start of training camp, but he was previously expected to take part in the Rams' first padded practice of training camp Monday. It appears that will no longer be the case, as McVay stated that the team will take it a week at a time with Stafford, though the head coach also indicated that the QB did not suffer a setback. The goal is still to have Stafford ready to play Week 1, but Jimmy Garoppolo is expected to work with the first-team offense in camp until Stafford is ready to participate.
Jul 25, 2025
In line to practice Monday
Stafford (back) is expected to participate in the Rams' first padded practice of training camp Monday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford reported to training camp earlier this week with a sore back, which has resulted in him working inside with team trainers in the meantime. After agreeing to a new two-year, $80 million contract with the Rams in the offseason, he's set to serve as the team's starting quarterback for a fifth consecutive season, and his top WR duo will be Puka Nacua and Davante Adams after L.A. moved on from Cooper Kupp.
Jul 24, 2025
Working indoors with trainers
Stafford (back) wasn't present at Wednesday's practice, instead working indoors with the training staff, Adam Grosbard of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
ANALYSIS
The report suggests Stafford is still only expected to miss a handful of practices, aiming to return for the second week of training camp. He signed a two-year, $84 million extension in May, and there had been no report of any issue with his back until Rams coach Sean McVay revealed Tuesday that Stafford was out for the start of camp. McVay described the injury as "back soreness that kind of crept up" during the offseason, per Greg Beacham of the Associated Press. Jimmy Garoppolo figures to take most of the first-team QB reps during the opening week of training camp.
Jul 22, 2025
Tending to sore back
Stafford is dealing with back soreness and will begin training camp working with Rams trainers on the side, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Greg Beacham of the Associated Press, coach Sean McVay indicated that Stafford's sore back "kind of crept up" on the quarterback this summer, but he's expected to miss only a handful of practices. Once he's back to full health, Stafford will be operating with a revamped receiving corps featuring newcomer Davante Adams in place of the departed Cooper Kupp, working opposite standout Puka Nacua.

Finalizes two-year, $84M deal
Stafford and the Rams finalized the terms on a two-year, $84 million contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford finally put pen to paper Monday after the two sides agreed to continue their relationship back in February. Stafford will collect $44 million in 2025, and if he's on the roster at the start of the 2026 league year, he'll earn another $40 million for that season. Stafford recently turned 37 years old this offseason, but coach Sean McVay has already stated he believes the quarterback has multiple good seasons left in the tank. Stafford completed 65.8 percent of his passes last season, throwing for 3,762 yards and a 20:8 TD:INT across 16 regular-season starts.
Feb 28, 2025
Sticking with Rams
Stafford and the Rams agreed to terms Friday on a restructured contract that will keep him in Los Angeles and eliminate any possibilities of a trade this offseason, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's interest as a potential trade candidate appeared to have been building significant momentum during the week of the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, with the Giants and Raiders headlining the list of suitors, but the veteran signal-caller has ultimately agreed to stick with the Rams and head coach Sean McVay, as confirmed by the team's official social media accounts. Further details regarding Stafford's restructured contract should arrive in short order, but it seems probable that both sides agreed to a mutually beneficial short-term, potentially frontloaded deal. The 37-year-old's continued tenure in Los Angeles is a positive development for the fantasy stock of both Puka Nacua and Kyren Williams, as it signals a seamless continuation of McVay's offensive scheme, though Cooper Kupp seemingly remains on the trade block.
Feb 28, 2025
Meeting with Rams on Friday
Stafford is meeting with the Rams in Los Angeles on Friday to discuss his future with the team, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Russini, both the Giants and Raiders have already met with Stafford and discussed two-year deals that include $90-to-$100 million guaranteed, and a decision is expected soon. The new league year kicks off in two weeks, and it would be safe to assume everyone involved here would like to have a resolution by that time. The Rams allowed Stafford to talk to teams and dictate his market, and that market could be reaching a point in which Los Angeles is unwilling to go. Stafford is likely looking for a substantial raise on the $40 million per year he's currently making. It's difficult to see him not getting that.
Feb 26, 2025
Interest from Giants, Raiders
Stafford (ribs) is drawing significant trade interest from the Raiders and Giants, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford met with the Giants at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Tuesday, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports, and the veteran quarterback also had what's been termed an "unplanned" meeting with Raiders minority owner Tom Brady in Montana recently, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The Rams have already given Stafford permission to speak to other teams, as the two sides have yet to come to agreement on a number regarding his next contract. Stafford is under contract for two more seasons with the Rams, but he wants a new deal that includes a raise and guaranteed money. It's possible he's angling for $50 million-plus annually to put him in the upper tier of quarterbacks, as he's currently the league's 15th highest-paid signal caller at $40 million per year.
Feb 21, 2025
Extension or trade both possible
The Rams hope to reach a contract agreement with Stafford (ribs) but may try to trade him if the two sides can't agree on numbers, Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire reports.
ANALYSIS
NFL Network's Tom Telissero reported Friday that the Rams recently gave Stafford's agent permission to talk with other teams to help assess the QB's value. The idea, it would seem, is for the Rams to figure out if they're willing to pay Stafford as much as another team would, which can move negotiations forward (or not). His contract was also an issue last offseason, when Stafford had three years remaining without any guaranteed money. The Rams adjusted his contract in July, but now they have a similar situation at hand, with Stafford scheduled to make $27 million and $31 million for the final two years of his contract. Those figures are way below market value for a competent starting QB, but that's partially because Stafford received a huge signing bonus in 2022 and a restructure bonus in 2024, which is reflected in his cap hits for the next two seasons ($49.7 million and $53.7 million). An extension would allow the Rams to lower those cap hits while making Stafford happy, but it would also mean adding to th

Had cracked ribs
Stafford played through four cracked ribs from Week 15 onward, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today Rams Wire reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford sustained the injury in Week 15 against the 49ers but continued to play without missing a beat, though he was rested along with other key Rams starters in the Week 18 regular-season finale. He aggravated the injury early in the 28-22 NFC divisional-round loss to the Eagles but didn't miss a snap. Stafford said after the loss to Philadelphia that "it sure feels like" he has more football left in him, per Nick Shook of NFL.com. Retirement doesn't seem to be on the 36-year-old quarterback's mind, and assuming he plans to resume his NFL career, Stafford will have plenty of time for his ribs to heal in the offseason.

Season-high 324 yards not enough
Stafford completed 26 of 44 passes for 324 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 28-22 NFC divisional-round loss to the Eagles. He added two rushing attempts for five yards and fumbled twice, losing one.
ANALYSIS
Stafford connected with Tyler Higbee for a four-yard touchdown on the Rams' first drive, then set up a field goal in the second quarter with a 48-yard deep ball to Demarcus Robinson. Both offenses slowed down for a while after that as the snow started coming down, and Stafford had the Rams' second lost fumble in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter as the Eagles built a 28-15 lead before Stafford finally responded with a four-yard touchdown pass to Colby Parkinson with 2:48 left. Los Angeles got the ball back just 25 seconds later, and Stafford drove the team down to the 13-yard line before a sack and incomplete pass ensured the comeback bid came up short. Stafford exceeded his previous single-game season high in passing yards Sunday, but his campaign still came to an end after he posted 3,762 yards and a 20:8 TD:INT in the regular season and added 533 passing yards with a 4:0 TD:INT in the postseason. Barring the unlikely scenario of Stafford deciding to retire, he'll be back for his age-37 season in

Stands out in wild-card win
Stafford completed 19 of 27 passes for 209 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions while adding two carries for minus-1 yard in the Rams' 27-9 wild-card win over the Vikings on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
Stafford got off to a blazing start during the convincing win, recording completions of 27 and 23 yards to Puka Nacua and Tyler Higbee, respectively, on his first pair of throws. The veteran signal-caller connected on all six pass attempts during the crisp opening possession, which he capped off with a five-yard scoring toss to Kyren Williams. Stafford would subsequently connect with Davis Allen for a 13-yard scoring strike just before halftime as well, and although the offense slowed down considerably in the second half, Stafford had already laid the groundwork for an impressive victory. Stafford and the Rams will now ready themselves for the challenge presented by a road divisional-round clash versus the Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

Won't play this week
Rams coach Sean McVay confirmed Wednesday that Stafford won't play in Sunday's game against Seattle, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Jimmy Garoppolo will make the start, with Stafford and other key players resting in preparation for a wild-card-round matchup with the Packers, Buccaneers or Falcons.
Dec 31, 2024
Expected to sit out in Week 18
Stafford isn't expected to play in Sunday against the Seahawks after head coach Sean McVay confirmed Monday that he plans on resting most of the Rams' key starters for the regular-season finale, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports. "Typically, we've erred on the side of leaning a little bit more towards [resting players] and I would imagine as we continue to finalize our plans, that's probably the direction we'll go," McVay said, when pressed about the Rams' plans for Week 18.
ANALYSIS
While they can claim the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs with a win over the Seahawks, the Rams are already assured no worse than the fourth seed -- and the home game in the wild-card round that comes with it -- after having already clinched the NFC West title. McVay suggested that he'll prioritize resting the team's top players and avoiding injuries for Week 18 rather than going all in on securing the No. 3 seed, an approach similar to the ones the Rams took in 2017 and 2023, when the team had little incentive at stake in regular-season finales. While McVay didn't specifically mention that Stafford would sit out, the coach said that he was excited to see what backup Jimmy Garoppolo could do in his first extended snaps as a member of the Rams. The Rams also have a third quarterback in Stetson Bennett on the roster, so Stafford will most likely be a healthy inactive for the matchup with the Seahawks rather than suiting up as Garoppolo's top backup.
Dec 28, 2024
Slump continues
Stafford completed 17 of 32 passes for 189 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 13-9 win over the Cardinals. He added six rushes for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stafford did enough to win and avoided both turnovers and sacks, but he still struggled to get the Rams' offense going. The primary exception came on a drive midway through the second quarter, when he connected on a deep pass to Cooper Kupp for 29 yards and also found Puka Nacua for a gain of 19 to set up a one-yard touchdown run for Kyren Williams. Otherwise, the only thing working for Stafford was targeting Nacua, who was on the receiving end of 10 completions. Overall, Stafford has now failed to reach 200 passing yards in four of his last five games and has only one total touchdown combined across his last three contests.
Dec 22, 2024
Struggles persist in Week 16 win
Stafford completed 14 of 19 passes for 110 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 19-9 win over the Jets. He also registered three rushing attempts for minus-4 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stafford threw for only nine yards in the first quarter and was picked off in the second, finishing the first half with a modest 46 passing yards. He was only moderately more effective in the second half, though Stafford's 11-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Higbee in the fourth quarter helped the Rams pull away and improve to 9-6. After struggling in the cold Sunday, Stafford will be glad to be back in Los Angeles for Week 17 against the Cardinals.
Dec 12, 2024
Perseveres in inclement weather
Stafford completed 16 of 27 passes for 160 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed four times for 18 yards in the Rams' 12-6 win over the 49ers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Stafford didn't look anywhere near as sharp as he had just four days earlier in a track meet against Josh Allen and the Bills, but wet conditions throughout the night certainly played a role. However, the veteran persevered through less-than-ideal conditions and continued to display a prolific connection with Puka Nacua, with whom he connected with on seven occasions for 97 yards. The biggest offensive play of the night also transpired between the two, as Stafford hit the standout receiver for a 51-yard completion to open a late fourth-quarter drive that culminated in a field goal. The veteran signal-caller did see a four-game streak of multiple touchdown passes come to an end, but he has the Rams in solid shape at 8-6 heading into a Week 16 road battle against the Jets on Sunday, Dec. 22.
Dec 8, 2024
Nearly perfect against Bills
Stafford completed 23 of 30 passes for 320 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 44-42 win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Despite the score and the stat line of Josh Allen, the Rams prioritized their running game. That limited Stafford's passing volume, but he made up for that by averaging 10.7 yards per attempt while completing four passes of more than 20 yards. He also found the end zone on passes of 17 and 19 yards to Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, respectively. Stafford now has multiple scores in four straight games with no interceptions, though this was his first 300-yard performance since Week 1.
Dec 4, 2024
Gets in full practice Wednesday
Stafford (ankle) practiced fully Wednesday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
When coach Sean McVay touched on Stafford on Monday, he relayed that the quarterback was dealing with a lateral ankle sprain, but he wasn't expected to have any restrictions in practice, per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. The Rams' first Week 14 injury report confirmed as much, setting Stafford up to continue to lead L.A.'s offense. He's tossed multiple touchdowns in five of the last six games on his way to a 14:3 TD:INT during that stretch.
Dec 2, 2024
Dealing with minor ankle sprain
Stafford suffered a lateral ankle sprain in Sunday's Week 13 win over New Orleans, but neither his practice nor game status this week is expected to be affected, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rams coach Sean McVay didn't seem concerned Monday when mentioning Stafford's ankle issue, suggesting that the star quarterback wouldn't be restricted in practice this week or in this coming Sunday's matchup against Buffalo. A lateral sprain is the most common type of ankle sprain and occurs on the outside of the ankle, and Stafford's sprain seems to be relatively minor. The injury likely occurred in the second quarter of Sunday's victory, as Stafford was seen limping a few plays prior to sneaking for four yards on a fourth-down conversion.
Dec 1, 2024
Rallies Rams for crucial victory
Stafford completed 14 of 24 pass attempts for 183 yards and two touchdowns while taking four carries for three yards in Sunday's 21-14 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Stafford orchestrated a pair of fourth-quarter drives that resulted in touchdown passes to Demarcus Robinson (hand) and Puka Nacua, helping lift the Rams back to a .500 record on the season. The 36-year-old Stafford attempted his second fewest passing attempts of the campaign, but he still helped fantasy managers with his fifth multi-score game over his last six appearances. Stafford and the Rams will prepare to host the Bills in Week 14 when the cross-conference squads meet next Sunday.
Nov 25, 2024
Puts up stats in losing effort
Stafford completed 24 of 36 pass attempts for 243 yards and two touchdowns while taking his only carry for 15 yards in Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was unable to replicate his four-touchdown performance against the Patriots from a week ago, but he still posted solid fantasy numbers despite Sunday's lopsided score. The veteran signal-caller has been on a tear of late, ripping off 12 touchdowns over his last five contests following a slow start to the campaign. Stafford should continue serving as a dependable fantasy option as the Rams prepare to visit the Saints next Sunday.
Nov 17, 2024
Another four-touchdown performance
Stafford completed 18 of 27 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns in the Rams' 28-22 win against the Patriots. He also rushed four times for zero yards.
ANALYSIS
Stafford faced little resistance against the Patriots defense, tossing a pair of touchdowns to Cooper Kupp, as well as one each to Puka Nacua and Colby Parkinson. Kupp and Nacua again dominated the target share from the veteran quarterback and made some explosive plays, with Kupp hauling in a 69-yard touchdown pass and Nacua garnering a big 37-yard catch of his own. The duo combined for 13 catches for 229 yards and three touchdowns, and as long as they stay healthy, Stafford's fantasy forecast seems much brighter than his dismal start of the season, with a 10:3 TD:INT ratio in the Rams' last four games versus 3:4 TD:INT ratio through the Rams' first six games with Kupp and Nacua both missing time. The Eagles and their top-tier pass defense presents a much more difficult task for Stafford and the Rams in Week 12.
Nov 11, 2024
No TDs on 46 attempts
Stafford completed 32 of 46 pass attempts for 293 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while gaining no yards on his only carry in Monday's 23-15 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Stafford also lost 13 yards on two of his own fumble recoveries, but the interception was the only logged turnover Monday. The 36-year-old hit a road block in a matchup that could have provided fruit for fantasy managers. Stafford has thrown for 2,262 yards (66 percent completion rate) with nine touchdowns to nine turnovers through nine games this season, making for an average fantasy option on a per-game standard. The Rams will look to get back on track in a road matchup against the Patriots on Sunday.
Nov 3, 2024
Solid effort in OT win
Stafford completed 25 of 44 pass attempts for 298 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 26-20 overtime win versus Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's second passing touchdown sent the Rams home with a victory over a division rival after connecting with Demarcus Robinson in overtime. The veteran quarterback couldn't replicate last week's four-touchdown performance, but he still finished with his second highest yardage total of the season. Stafford is slowly climbing his numbers back up to previous norms heading into next Monday's tilt against the Dolphins.
Oct 24, 2024
Four-touchdown performance Thursday
Stafford completed 25 of 34 passes for 279 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in the Rams' 30-20 win over the Vikings on Thursday night. He also rushed three times for minus-4 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stafford had a banner night across the board, clearly benefitting from the return of both Puka Nacua (knee) and Cooper Kupp (ankle) to the field. The duo predicably served as Stafford's top targets, accounting for 12 of the quarterback's completions, 157 of his yards and one of his touchdown passes (Kupp). Stafford also hit Demarcus Robinson for scoring tosses of 25 and 10 yards in the second half, and his first end-zone strike of the night went to Kyren Williams from five yards out. Stafford's passing yardage was his second highest of the campaign and game also marked his first multi-touchdown tally of the season, affording the veteran signal-caller plenty of momentum heading into a Week 9 road showdown against the division-rival Seahawks on Sunday, Nov. 3.
Oct 20, 2024
Struggles despite earning team win
Stafford (back) completed 14 of 23 pass attempts for 154 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 20-15 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Stafford entered this contest dealing with a sore back, but he had the bye week to rest and did not appear limited Sunday. The veteran quarterback simply cruised in the back seat while the running game (both touchdowns) and defense (four takeaways) drove Los Angeles to its second victory of the year. Stafford's low-use game marked the first time this season that he has failed to reach 200 passing yards. With just three touchdowns to six turnovers through six weeks, Stafford makes for a middling fantasy option in a tough matchup against Minnesota on Thursday Night Football in Week 8.
Oct 14, 2024
Back no longer bothersome
Coach Sean McVay said Monday that Stafford (back) is "doing great and he's not going to miss any time," Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was dealing with back soreness after the 24-19 Week 5 loss to the Packers, but a well-timed Week 6 bye provided ample time for the veteran quarterback to recover. While Stafford will be available for Sunday's game against the Raiders, the Rams are expected to remain without wide receiver Puka Nacua (knee), while the status of wide receiver Cooper Kupp (ankle) is still up in the air.
Oct 7, 2024
Sore back after Week 5 action
Coach Sean McVay noted Monday that Stafford is dealing with some back soreness following Sunday's 24-19 loss to the Packers, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register and Greg Beacham of the Associated Press report.
ANALYSIS
That said, McVay indicated that Stafford's back issue shouldn't impact the QB's availability for the Rams' Oct. 20 game against the Raiders. In any case, added context regarding Stafford's status should surface once the team resumes practice following a Week 6 bye.
Oct 6, 2024
Pads stats late
Stafford completed 29 of 45 passes for 260 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 24-19 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
The contest got off to a strange start for Stafford, as the Rams' offense struggled to get going through the air. That was clear during the team's lone touchdown drive in the first two quarters, as he attempted only three passes that went for just 12 yards. However, things opened up in the second half with the Packers jumping out to a multi-score lead, and Stafford responded with five completions for double-digit gains. While he's making the most of his situation as the team plays without several offensive linemen as well as Puka Nacua (knee) and Cooper Kupp (ankle), Stafford has yet to throw for multiple touchdowns in a game this season.
Sep 29, 2024
Solid numbers in Week 4 defeat
Stafford completed 20 of 29 passes for 224 yards with no touchdowns and one interception while netting minus-1 yard on his only rush attempt. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Stafford once again was playing with a makeshift receiving corps in the absence of Cooper Kupp (ankle) and Puka Nacua (IR-knee), which makes his final numbers more than serviceable. However, the veteran signal-caller simply couldn't generate enough scoring drives, and he also fumbled at his own 13-yard line midway through the second quarter to set up a short Bears touchdown drive. Stafford showed plenty of chemistry with Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington in particular (combined 10-144 line on 14 targets), and it remains to be seen if he'll at least have Kupp back in the fold for a Week 5 home showdown against the Packers.
Sep 22, 2024
Spurs compact victory
Stafford completed 16 of 25 pass attempts for 221 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Stafford struggled at times against the 49ers' loaded defense, but the veteran persevered to lead his offense into field-goal range in the closing moments of Sunday's victory. The 36-year-old has provided mixed results from the pocket after losing his top two receiving options in consecutive weeks to begin the season. Stafford's lack of production as a rusher (zero attempts through three weeks) makes him a middling fantasy option heading into a matchup against Chicago on Sunday.
Sep 15, 2024
Loses another weapon Sunday
Stafford completed 19 of 27 pass attempts for 216 yards with no touchdowns or rushing attempts (one fumble lost) in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Stafford struggled mightily after losing top wideout Cooper Kupp (ankle) in the first half of Sunday's blowout loss to a division rival. It was the veteran signal-caller's first game without a touchdown scored in a Rams' uniform since Week 1 of last season. The loss of Kupp is concerning considering Stafford lost the services of 2023 ROTY Puka Nacua (knee) in last week's loss. Stafford will likely lead a ragtag group of receivers into a difficult matchup against the 49ers on Sunday.
Sep 9, 2024
Loses game and WR on SNF
Stafford completed 34 of 49 pass attempts for 317 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to Detroit.
ANALYSIS
Stafford fell short to his former club in a tightly-contested matchup that needed an extra time to complete. Unfortunately for the Rams, the Lions won the coin flip and marched to the end zone without giving Los Angeles' offense a chance to possess the ball in the extra period. Stafford performed well on a personal level despite losing a key member of the offense, Puka Nacua (knee), to an apparent knee injury. The severity of injury to last year's Rookie of the Year is currently unknown, what is clear is the Rams' inability to replace that type of talent on the field in the way the rookie did for Cooper Kupp last year. The latter looked healthy in his first 2024 action, which helps soften the fantasy blow from the loss of Nacua for Stafford ahead of next Sunday's tilt against Arizona.
Aug 20, 2024
Returns to team drills
Stafford (hamstring) is participating in team drills at the start of Tuesday's practice, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was limited to individual work in his return to practice Monday, but he's now resumed handling normal full-team reps. That's enough to alleviate any minor concerns about the 36-year-old signal-caller's health, though the plan for Los Angeles all along has been for Stetson Bennett to start Saturday's preseason finale against the Texans. The Rams also expect second-year wideout Puka Nacua (hamstring) to be available Week 1 versus the Lions, so with Cooper Kupp also entering the 2024 season healthy, Stafford will have both his top wideouts available to kick off the season strong.
Aug 19, 2024
Limited to individual work
Stafford (hamstring) participated in stretching and individual work at Monday's practice but was held out of team drills, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford returned to practice on an individual basis Monday, a positive step in the right direction after he departed the field last Wednesday as a result of hamstring tightness. Coach Sean McVay said Stafford's limitations are precautionary and he simply "wanted to be smart with him," noting that "he was obviously very upset at me that he wasn't practicing today," Even if he were fully healthy, Stafford wouldn't be in contention to start Los Angeles' preseason finale against the Texans on Saturday, but it sounds like the veteran signal-caller is fully on track to play Week 1 against the Lions on Sept. 8.
Aug 19, 2024
Dressed for practice Monday
Stafford (hamstring) is going through individual drills at the start of practice Monday, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford missed some time at practice last week due to hamstring tightness, and while coach Sean McVay's confidence in the veteran quarterback's ability to resume practicing Monday teetered over the weekend, he's now back on the field for individual drills. Even if Stafford isn't yet cleared to practice in full, seeing him already back on the field alleviates serious concerns about his health. Regardless, Stafford won't be in contention to suit up for Los Angeles' preseason finale against the Texans on Aug. 24.
Aug 18, 2024
May not practice Monday
Rams coach Sean McVay said Sunday that he's unsure if Stafford (hamstring) will practice Monday, Stu Jackson of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has been sidelined since leaving Wednedsay's practice early with what was described as hamstring tightness. McVay stated Thursday that he expected the starting quarterback to return to practice this week, but it appears the team may take a more precautious route and will likely need to re-evaluate his status Monday morning. The Rams' coach downplayed the severity of the issue Sunday, stating that he's "not concerned" and that the 36-year-old will ready for the season opener at Detroit on Sunday, Sept. 8, per Jackson. In the meantime, backups Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn should continue to serve as the Rams' quarterbacks for the preseason finale versus Houston on Saturday.
Aug 15, 2024
In line to practice next week
Coach Sean McVay said Thursday that he expects Stafford (hamstring) to return to practice next week, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford left practice early Wednesday and isn't present for Thursday's walkthrough, but the Rams have described his absence due to hamstring tightness as precautionary. That the veteran signal-caller is expected to resume practicing next week confirms his injury isn't severe. In any case, neither of Stafford or backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo have been considered candidates to play during Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers, so Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn will again lead Los Angeles' offense in an exhibition contest.
Aug 15, 2024
Absent from walkthrough
Stafford (hamstring) is not present for Thursday's walkthrough practice, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
A Rams spokesperson reiterated that Stafford was removed from practice Wednesday at roughly the halfway point for 'precautionary' reasons due to hamstring tightness. Neither Stafford nor backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo are expected to play in any of Los Angeles' preseason games, so Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn figure to dominate reps during Saturday's exhibition matchup against the Chargers. It seems the Rams are simply playing it safe with Stafford's health, but given his injury history, it will be a relief to fantasy managers if the 36-year-old signal-caller is able to retake the field without missing much more time.
Aug 14, 2024
Injures hamstring Wednesday
Stafford made an early exit from Wednesday's joint practice with the Cowboys due to a tight hamstring, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was active in the first half of Wednesday's session that included a handful of 11-on-11 series, but he then left the field as a precautionary measure due to the aforementioned injury. He isn't expected to play in any of the Rams' preseason games, and the same can be said for backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, so second-year pro Stetson Bennett should continue to handle the bulk of the in-game reps under center prior to Week 1.
Aug 10, 2024
Not in line to play in preseason
Stafford is not slated to see any preseason action, Cameron DaSilvaof USA Today and Gary Klein of the L.A. Times report.
ANALYSIS
Given Stafford's injury history, it's no surprise that the Rams plan to play it safe with their veteran starter. While it's unclear if fellow QB Jimmy Garoppolo will see exhibition snaps, look for Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn to get their share of work during the the team's looming three-game preseason slate.
Jul 23, 2024
Contract being adjusted
Coach Sean McVay said Tuesday that Stafford is present at training camp and that the Rams have agreed to adjust his contract, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has two years remaining on his contract with Los Angeles and has expressed a desire for more guaranteed money. Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports that an adjustment to Stafford's deal is more likely than an extension, but whatever the case, both sides are now on the same page as the veteran quarterback enters his age-36 season. McVay confirmed that Stafford will be ready to practice Wednesday, per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com.
Jun 5, 2024
Seeking contract update
Stafford wants more guaranteed money added to his contract, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
The 36-year-old has three years remaining on his contract but no guarantees beyond 2024. He's been present at voluntary OTAs throughout the offseason, leading a Rams offense that will return all but one starter (C Coleman Shelton) from last year. G Jonah Jackson and TE Colby Parkinson were the big offseason additions, with the former allowing Steve Avila to slide over to center and the latter likely replacing Tyler Higbee (torn ACL) as a starter early in the season. Stafford apparently intends to play at least a few more years and will have WRs Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp as his primary targets for the foreseeable future.
Jan 14, 2024
Comes up just short at Ford Field
Stafford completed 25 of 36 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 24-23 wild-card round loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Stafford threw second-quarter touchdowns of 50 and 38 yards to Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell, but the Rams had three other drives stall in the red zone, and that inability to convert in close proved crucial in the narrow loss. The quarterback went into the medical tent with the independent neurotrauma specialist after taking a big hit in the second half, per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, but Stafford was cleared to return to the game and continue a comeback bid that came up just short despite his connection with Nacua, who finished with 181 receiving yards. Stafford exceeded expectations with 3,965 yards and a 24:11 TD:INT in the regular season to lead LA back to the playoffs after an injury-riddled 2022 campaign, so the nearly 36-year-old quarterback looks like he still has some gas left in the tank.
Jan 7, 2024
On Week 18 inactive list
Stafford (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Sean McVay had already revealed at the beginning of Week 18 prep that Stafford would be held out for rest purposes in the regular-season finale, but the Rams still opted to list the veteran signal-caller as doubtful on their final injury report. As anticipated, Stafford is inactive for the contest, allowing Carson Wentz to make his first start with the Rams while practice-squad call-up Dresser Winn serves as his backup. Stafford will return to action in the wild-card round, when the Rams play a road game against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
Jan 3, 2024
Will rest Week 18
Stafford won't play Sunday against the 49ers, as the Rams will rest him in preparation for the postseason and start Carson Wentz instead, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Rams have clinched a playoff berth at 9-7 but have no chance at the NFC West crown, which belongs to the 49ers. Stafford finishes the regular season with 3,965 passing yards and a 24:11 TD:INT, plus 65 rushing yards on 21 attempts, across 15 appearances.
Dec 31, 2023
Tops 300 yards in Week 17 win
Stafford completed 24 of 34 passes for 317 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 26-25 win over the Giants. He also rushed once for minus-1 yard.
ANALYSIS
Stafford connected with Cooper Kupp for a five-yard touchdown late in the first half, atoning for an interception on the previous drive. He was picked off again in the third quarter, but the Rams did just enough to hang on for a win that could wind up clinching a playoff berth with some help over the rest of Week 17. Stafford posted his fifth 300-yard passing performance of the season and second in a row, but his streak of games with multiple touchdown passes was snapped at five, as Kyren Williams scored three times on the ground. The Rams travel to San Francisco in Week 18, but that matchup is less daunting than usual, as the 49ers have already clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
Dec 21, 2023
Hot streak continues in win
Stafford completed 24 of 34 passes for 328 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Rams' 30-22 win over the Saints on Thursday night. He also rushed once for minus-4 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stafford continued his recent stretch of significantly improved play, authoring his fifth straight multi-touchdown effort while eclipsing the 300-yard mark for the first time since Week 4. The veteran signal-caller also extended his streak of games without an interception to four, and he unsurprisingly connected with the dynamic duo of Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, the former who joined Demarcus Robinson as being on the receiving end of Stafford's pair of touchdown passes. Stafford has the Rams creeping closer to a postseason spot, and he'll aim keep that effort going in the right direction in a Week 17 road matchup against the Giants on New Year's Eve.
Dec 17, 2023
Very efficient in victory
Stafford completed 25 of 33 passes for 258 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 28-20 win over the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Stafford continued his second-half resurgence, recording multiple touchdowns and topping 250 passing yards for the third consecutive game. He connected with Cooper Kupp for a 62-yard score just after halftime -- his longest completion of the day -- and he followed that up with a 23-yard touchdown toss to Demarcus Robinson early in the fourth quarter to clinch victory for the Rams. Stafford has also avoided mistakes in the midst of his hot streak, as he has not turned the ball over in three consecutive contests heading into a key Week 16 matchup against the Saints.
Dec 10, 2023
Excels in tough matchup
Stafford completed 23 of 41 passes for 294 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 37-31 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Stafford successfully kept pace with Lamar Jackson throughout this matchup. He threw for at least three touchdowns in his third consecutive game, and Sunday's scores went to three different receivers from seven, six and five yards away. Even in rainy conditions and a tough matchup, Stafford also managed to push the ball down the field effectively, as he completed six passes of at least 20 yards. He should be in a good position to build on his strong recent form in a Week 15 matchup against a Commanders defense that has struggled to defend the pass for much of the campaign.

Tosses three TDs in Week 13 win
Stafford completed 22 of 37 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 36-19 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
The veteran quarterback lit up a Cleveland secondary that was missing top corner Denzel Ward (shoulder), with a 70-yard TD to Puka Nacua in the first quarter setting the tone for the afternoon. Stafford had thrown more than one touchdown in a game only once this season prior to last week, but over the last two games he's erupted for seven TDs against just one INT. His surge could come to an abrupt halt in Week 14 on the road against the Ravens, however.
Nov 26, 2023
Four-touchdown breakout in win
Stafford completed 25 of 33 passes for 229 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in the Rams' 37-14 win over the Cardinals on Sunday. He also rushed once for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's yardage total wasn't particularly remarkable, but his four-touchdown afternoon made the veteran quarterback an unlikely fantasy star in Week 12. Stafford's multi-touchdown tally was only his second of the season and consisted of scoring tosses to Tyler Higbee (seven, five yards) and Kyren Williams (15, three yards) and pushed his season-long total to 13 in 10 games. Making Stafford's prolific scoring day all the more remarkable was the fact it didn't come with the aid of noteworthy performances from either Cooper Kupp or Puka Nacua, and he'll now look to put together a successful encore in a Week 13 home matchup against a Browns defense that's been much more generous against the pass on the road.

Earns win despite mediocre stats
Stafford (thumb) completed 17 of 31 pass attempts for 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 17-16 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Stafford returned from a one-game absence after using the Rams' recent bye week to recover from a thumb strain on his throwing hand. The veteran signal-caller was slow to get up after taking a hit in the third quarter, but he did not miss any time and was able to finish out the narrow victory. Stafford's top target, Cooper Kupp, wasn't as fortunate when he left Sunday's win in the first half without returning. Kupp's status is currently unknown for next Sunday's tilt against Arizona, but it sounds like Stafford should be a go despite paying a physical price to beat Seattle on Sunday.

Full practice Wednesday
Stafford (thumb) practiced in full Wednesday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
As coach Sean McVay told Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic earlier Wednesday, Stafford didn't have any limitations on the practice field to kick off Week 11 prep. With the benefit of the Rams' Week 10 bye, Stafford thus will miss just one game due to the UCL sprain in his right thumb that he suffered Week 8 in Dallas. The QB situation behind Stafford has experienced change following the Rams signing of Carson Wentz last Wednesday, with Wentz the only other signal-caller on the active roster or practice squad at the moment.
Nov 15, 2023
Shouldn't be limited in practice
Stafford (thumb) will practice Wednesday, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Sean McVay doesn't expect Stafford to have any limitations in terms of taking snaps from under center vs. the shotgun. It remains to be seen if the Rams list their starting QB as a full or limited participant, but either way he's on the right track to return after a bye week and face the Seahawks this Sunday.
Nov 13, 2023
Expected to start in Week 11
Coach Sean McVay said Monday that the Rams expect Stafford (thumb) to start Sunday's Week 11 game against the Seahawks, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Week 10 bye came at a good time for Stafford after he was forced to miss Week 9 versus Green Bay. The offense got nothing going with Brett Rypien under center, and Rypien was eventually released a couple days later. Los Angeles has since signed Carson Wentz to be Stafford's backup going forward. Stafford's return to the lineup will be a boost to Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua and the entire offense.
Nov 6, 2023
Optimism for Week 11
Coach Sean McVay sounded optimistic Monday that Stafford (thumb) will be back after the Rams' bye week, according to Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
With Stafford inactive for Sunday's game against the Packers, Brett Rypien drew the start at QB in his place, but with the benefit of a Week 10 bye, it appears as though the Rams are hopeful Stafford will only miss one game due to an ulnar collateral ligament sprain in his right thumb. The team hosts Seattle on Nov. 19, and more context regarding Stafford's Week 11 status will arrive once the the Rams resume practicing ahead of the contest.
Nov 5, 2023
Progressing through thumb sprain
Coach Sean McVay said after Sunday's loss at Green Bay that Stafford (thumb) is "making good progress" as it pertains to gripping a football, "but it wasn't anywhere to where we thought he would be able to go for us" Week 9, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford hasn't logged any on-field work since suffering a sprained UCL in his right thumb last Sunday in Dallas. He ended up being listed as questionable for Week 9 action, but as McVay indicated, Stafford was a long shot to be available in the end. The Rams have a Week 10 bye, so Stafford will have two more weeks to rest up before the team's next game Sunday, Nov. 19 against the Seahawks. Brett Rypien stepped in for Stafford this Sunday, completing 13 of 28 passes for 130 yards, no touchdowns and one interception, tallying three carries for 19 yards and fumbling twice (one lost).
Nov 5, 2023
Won't suit up Sunday
Stafford (thumb) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Packers, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite taking a questionable tag into the weekend and having a penchant for playing through injuries throughout his career, Stafford will sit out Sunday after spraining the UCL in the thumb on his throwing hand in the Rams' Week 8 loss to the Cowboys. With the Rams on bye Week 10, Stafford, who didn't practice in any capacity this week, will benefit from three full weeks to heal up from the injury before Los Angeles returns to action Nov. 19 versus the Seahawks. Brett Rypien will start against the Packers in Stafford's stead, with practice-squad call-up Dresser Winn serving as the team's backup quarterback.
Nov 4, 2023
Not in line to play Sunday
Stafford (thumb) isn't expected to play in Sunday's game at Green Bay, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford hasn't been able to log any on-field work since suffering a sprained UCL in his right thumb just before halftime of the Rams' Week 8 loss at Dallas. Coach Sean McVay called Stafford day-to-day all along, and the team will give the quarterback until Sunday morning before making a decision on his availability for Week 9. L.A. will post its list of inactives about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff, and if Stafford's name is included, the Rams will turn to Brett Rypien under center.
Nov 3, 2023
No practice Friday, questionable for Sunday
Coach Sean McVay relayed that Stafford (thumb) won't practice Friday, but the quarterback will be listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Green Bay, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was knocked out of the Rams' Week 8 loss at Dallas late in the second quarter and was unable to return after injuring his right thumb. He eventually was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in the appendage, which didn't allow him to practice Wednesday through Friday. McVay has considered Stafford day-to-day all along, and the coach even added Friday that he's willing to "take it all the way up until game time" before making a decision on the quarterback's availability for Sunday, per Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. With a 1:00 p.m. kickoff on tap, Stafford's status will have clarity before the early slate of games, and if he ends up inactive, the Rams will roll with Brett Rypien under center.
Nov 2, 2023
Another DNP on Thursday
Stafford (thumb) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After he wasn't spotted during the media-access portion of the session, Stafford logged a second DNP to begin Week 9 prep. Because coach Sean McVay considers Stafford day-to-day, the quarterback may not need to log any practice reps this week in order to suit up Sunday at Green Bay. In the end, Stafford's status could come down to reduction of the swelling in his right thumb caused by his sprained UCL. Look for Brett Rypien to get the start in place of Stafford if the latter is unable to gain clearance to play this weekend.
Nov 2, 2023
Not spotted Thursday
Stafford (thumb) wasn't seen during the open portion of Thursday's practice, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
If he indeed goes down as a non-participant for a second day in a row, Stafford will have just one more opportunity this week to potentially test out the UCL sprain that he suffered in his right thumb this past Sunday in Dallas. Per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, coach Sean McVay does consider Stafford day-to-day, so the quarterback may not need to practice in order to be active for Sunday's game at Green Bay. If Stafford is unavailable, though, Brett Rypien is set the lead the Rams offense.
Nov 1, 2023
Not practicing Wednesday
Coach Sean McVay said Stafford (thumb) won't practice Wednesday, but the quarterback remains "day-to-day," Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford missed the entire second half of this past Sunday's loss at Dallas due to a right thumb injury that he suffered just before halftime. On Monday, McVay termed the issue a UCL sprain, and as of Wednesday, he noted he'll give Stafford "right up before the game" this Sunday at Green Bay to determine whether or not he'll be available Week 9. Such comments indicate Stafford doesn't necessarily need to practice Thursday or Friday to be able to suit up. Instead, his availability (or lack thereof) will come down to reduced swelling in his right hand and also grip strength. If Stafford ultimately is unable to go this weekend, Brett Rypien will direct the Rams offense.
Oct 30, 2023
Day-to-day with thumb injury
Coach Sean McVay relayed Monday that Stafford is dealing with a UCL sprain in his right thumb, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
As a result, Stafford is considered day-to-day as Sunday's game against the Packers approaches. While it remains to be seen if the veteran QB is able to play this weekend, as Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register notes, Stafford has avoided a worst-case scenario with regard to his thumb issue. If Stafford is unable to gain clearance to face Green Bay, Brett Rypien would be in line to draw the start at QB for the Rams in Week 9.
Oct 30, 2023
X-rays on thumb negative
Stafford (thumb) is still being evaluated but has not sustained a fracture, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford could miss time due to the right thumb injury he sustained during Sunday's loss to Dallas, but his X-rays have at least returned somewhat good news. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Stafford is still 'up in the air,' while Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports that the Rams remain in the process of evaluating the quarterback situation. With a road matchup in a potentially chilly Green Bay on deck for Week 9, and then a bye, it's possible that Los Angeles could decide on rest as the best decision for Stafford's health. Brett Rypien would be in line to start versus the Packers if Stafford is unable to go.
Oct 29, 2023
Suffers right thumb injury Sunday
Stafford injured his right thumb during Sunday's contest at Dallas, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In the span of a few plays late in the second quarter, Stafford had his right wrist hit by Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons before his right thumb slammed into the helmet of defensive tackle Mazi Smith on a two-point conversion pass that fell incomplete. After halftime, backup quarterback Brett Rypien took over the Rams offense while Stafford himself was seen on the sideline wearing a helmet. Stafford was 13-for-22 passing for 162 yards, one touchdown and one interception and had a nine-yard carry before his departure.
Oct 22, 2023
Mediocre in loss to Pittsburgh
Stafford completed 14 of 29 passes for 231 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Steelers. He added one rush for eight yards.
ANALYSIS
Stafford closed the first half strong with two long completions of 36 and 31 yards, the latter of which went for his only touchdown of the day. He failed to carry that momentum forward, however, as the Rams offense stalled in the second half. As a result, Stafford ended up with one or fewer touchdowns for the sixth time in seven games this season. More recently, he's thrown for between 222 and 231 yards in his last three games. Even with Cooper Kupp back in the mix, Stafford has been an uninspiring fantasy option.
Oct 15, 2023
Connects with Kupp for lone TD
Stafford completed 15 of 24 passes for 226 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 26-9 victory against the Cardinals. He also rushed once for two yards.
ANALYSIS
An efficient day behind the helm of the Rams' passing attack could've been a lot more rewarding for the veteran if not for a pair of dropped touchdown passes by rookie phenom Puka Nacua and veteran tight end Tyler Higbee. While both of those drives ended in field goals, Stafford did renew his touchdown connection with Cooper Kupp in the third quarter with a 13-yard toss that Kupp managed to fall down into the end zone with. Stafford also had no turnovers for the third straight game, a streak that he'll look to extend against the Steelers in Week 7.
Oct 8, 2023
Tosses pair of TDs in loss
Stafford completed 21 of 37 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns during Sunday's 23-14 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's favorite target since his arrival in Los Angeles returned for the first time this season, and Cooper Kupp was greeted with a team-high 12 targets that he converted into 118 yards. Stafford didn't forget about the talented youth movement that picked up the slack in Kupp's absence, as Puka Nacua (7-71-1 on 11 targets) continued his blistering tear while Tutu Atwell tacked on a touchdown of his own. Stafford didn't show any effects from the hip injury he suffered during last week's victory against the Colts, and he also managed to avoid a turnover for the second time this season. The Rams get a choice matchup in Week 6 against the Cardinals, who were just scorched by Joe Burrow for 317 yards and three touchdowns.
Oct 4, 2023
Full practice Wednesday
Stafford (hip) practiced in full Wednesday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As predicted by coach Sean McVay prior to the session, Stafford didn't have a cap on his reps to kick off the week, according to Greg Beacham of The Associated Press. Stafford toughed out a bruised hip during this past Sunday's overtime win at Indianapolis en route to 319 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 68 percent passing. With his status clear for Week 5 against the Eagles, he'll now wait and see whether two key skill-position players also may be available this weekend. Top wide receiver Cooper Kupp (hamstring) was designated for return from IR on Wednesday and put in a limited practice, while starting running back Kyren Williams didn't take part due to his own sore hip.
Oct 4, 2023
In line for full practice
Coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that Stafford (hip) is slated to be a full practice participant, Greg Beacham of The Associated Press reports. "He's full go," McVay added. "He's as tough as it gets. We're not going to be running any zone read or anything like that today, so he'll be in good shape."
ANALYSIS
Stafford gutted through a hip injury during this past Sunday's overtime win at Indianapolis. On Monday, McVay clarified that Stafford was dealing with a bruised hip, per Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register. Despite the health concern, both quarterback and coach seem confident that Stafford will be able to play Sunday against the Eagles. A full practice Wednesday would set Stafford on a path to being able to do so.
Oct 2, 2023
Has bruised hip
Coach Sean McVay said Monday that Stafford suffered a hip contusion during Sunday's overtime win at Indianapolis, but the quarterback is expected to play this coming Sunday against the Eagles, Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford wasn't 100 percent for a portion of Sunday's game, and he revealed afterward that a hip injury was the culprit, per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com. At the same time, Stafford said he'll "be out there" Week 5, which was backed up by McVay one day later. In the end, Stafford likely will operate with some restrictions once the Rams reconvene for practice Wednesday, and it also seems possible he'll enter this coming weekend with a designation.
Oct 1, 2023
Tending to hip issue
Stafford sustained a hip injury during Sunday's 29-23 overtime win at Indianapolis, but he expects to "be out there" next Sunday against the Eagles, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford experienced a bit more volume than expected after the Rams gave up a 23-point, third-quarter lead, completing 27 of 40 passes for 319 yards, one touchdown and one interception. In the end, he was able to salvage the performance for fantasy purposes with a 22-yard scoring strike to Puka Nacua to seal the victory on the only possession of overtime. Stafford appeared to be favoring his hip at times during Sunday's game, and his confirmation of the injury afterward means his status will be one to monitor during the course of Week 5 prep, despite his assertion that he'll be available.
Oct 1, 2023
Leads game-winning drive in OT
Stafford completed 27 of 40 passes for 319 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Sunday's 29-23 overtime win against the Colts. He also rushed twice for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was on pace to have his third straight game with more interceptions than touchdowns until his overtime heroics helped the Rams escape with a win. The veteran quarterback opened overtime with a 20-yard pass to rookie sensation Puka Nacua, then sealed the game with a 22-yard dart to Nacua, who burst past two defenders to score the game-winning touchdown. Stafford was banged up during the game with what may be a hip issue, something fantasy managers should keep an eye on before the Rams' Week 5 contest against the Eagles.
Sep 25, 2023
Two more picks in defeat
Stafford completed 18 of 33 pass attempts for 269 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions during Monday's 19-16 loss to the Bengals, while rushing once for seven yards.
ANALYSIS
Two of the Rams' offensive linemen, Alaric Jackson (thigh) and Joe Noteboom (knee) both went down with injury during Monday's showdown, and as a result the veteran quarterback was the recipient of six sacks, and was under constant duress for the duration of the contest. A late one-yard toss to Tutu Atwell helped Stafford avoid going without a touchdown pass in two of his first three contests of the year, a small consolation prize to fantasy managers who gambled on what looked to be a high-octane Rams pass attack. A beatable Colts defense is up next for the Rams in Week 4, but if Jackson and Noteboom were to miss time, it could be another tough outing for Stafford.
Sep 17, 2023
Costly interceptions Sunday
Stafford completed 34 of 55 pass attempts for 307 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 30-23 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Stafford appeared to be on his way to another strong performance and potential upset against a favored opponent, but two untimely interceptions in the second half derailed any hopes for a win Sunday. On a positive note, the veteran signal-caller eclipsed 300 passing yards for the second week in a row, which is a testament to his improved arm health following last year's elbow issues. Stafford has overcome fantasy expectations early on despite missing his best weapon in Cooper Kupp (hamstring) for a minimum of four games to start the season. He will look to clean up the turnovers in a road matchup against the Bengals next Monday.
Sep 10, 2023
Carries team to victory
Stafford completed 24 of 38 pass attempts for 334 yards with no touchdowns or turnovers in Sunday's 30-13 upset win over Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Stafford looked poised to prove that his rough 2022 campaign was due to poor health and not declining skill with this strong showing. The 35-year-old battled elbow and neck issues before landing on injured reserve last year, so Sunday's vintage performance sans Cooper Kupp (hamstring) is encouraging for his 2023 fantasy prospects. Stafford will get an opportunity to prove that he is truly back to form in a tough matchup against the 49ers on Sunday.
Sep 7, 2023
Playing without top target Week 1
Stafford feels comfortable with the passing game weapons that will be surrounding him for Sunday's game in Seattle, even though top wideout Cooper Kupp (hamstring) has been ruled out for the season opener, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports. "Cooper was out some of training camp as well and we had some guys have to come in there and step up and make plays for us and they've done that," Stafford said after Wednesday's practice. "Through joint practices, practicing against our defense, we've had a
ANALYSIS
Over the past two seasons, perhaps no quarterback has been reliant on one pass catcher than Stafford on Kupp. In the 25 regular-season games the two have played together, Kupp has drawn a whopping 32 percent of the quarterback's targets. The Rams won't rely on any of their other pass catchers to singlehandedly fill Kupp's high-volume role on offense, but Stafford believes the wideout quartet of Van Jefferson, Tutu Atwell, Puka Nacua and Ben Skowronek as well as tight end Tyler Higbee can capably absorb the vacated targets and ensure the passing attack remains productive. While the confidence that Stafford has expressed in his group of pass catchers may offer some reassurance, fantasy managers in leagues that start just one quarterback may be best off keeping the 35-year-old on the bench Week 1 with his go-to option out of the mix.
Aug 11, 2023
Not expected to suit up Saturday
Stafford is not expected to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Chargers, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Sean McVay isn't breaking from his tradition of not playing key starters in the preseason. Stafford barely threw last summer due to an elbow issue and then battled a concussion and neck injury during the regular season, seeing his 2022 come to a close in Week 11. This summer, Stafford has been throwing regularly and has shown no ill effects from the neck issue. Joining Stafford on the sideline Saturday will be Cooper Kupp (hamstring) and Aaron Donald (coach's decison).
Jul 31, 2023
Healthy despite rest day
Stafford took a rest day Monday, but coach Sean McVay said after practice that the quarterback is healthy and that Stafford isn't expected to miss any more days of training camp, Eric Williams of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's day off stemmed from a desire to get the quarterback on the same schedule as the regular season, when the goal will be for Stafford to throw four out of every seven days. After dealing with elbow soreness heading into last season and finishing the campaign on injured reserve due to a neck injury, Stafford is being deemed fully healthy heading into the 2023 campaign.
Mar 28, 2023
Deemed healthy by coach
Coach Sean McVay said Tuesday at the Annual League Meeting that Stafford (neck) is healthy and "there will be no limitations" when he resumes handling football activities, Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford is recovering from a spinal cord contusion that caused him to miss the last seven games of the 2022 season, but it appears that he's on track to kick off offseason workouts without any significant limitations. The 35-year-old playcaller's health will be one of the more pivotal factors in determining the Rams' success during the upcoming 2023 campaign, though the same can be said for star wide receiver Cooper Kupp (ankle), who is working his way back from tightrope surgery. Stafford didn't throw in offseason workouts last spring due to elbow tendinitis, so it will be notable if he's indeed able to participate in April's OTAs without any such restrictions.
Jan 14, 2023
Expected to be retained by LA
Stafford (neck) is expected to have his 2023 option and 2024 salary picked up to start the new league year, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
It would be a bit surprising to see the Rams move on from their Super Bowl-winning QB after just two seasons, but it appears as if a teardown could have happened if head coach Sean McVay opted to retire. With the playcaller back in tow, it looks as if the franchise is set to run it back with the 34-year-old Stafford, who missed eight games due to various injuries this past season. Between a balky thumb injury with the Lions, elbow tendinitis more recently this past offseason and the eventual injury that landed Stafford on injured reserve -- a spinal cord contusion back in Week 11 -- the veteran has accumulated a number of body-deteriorating injuries over the past couple of years. As a result, it's hard to imagine the 2009 No. 1 overall pick playing a handful of additional seasons, but with the Rams well suited for a playoff berth currently when not dealing with a litany of injuries, expect the team and QB to extend the competitive window as long as possible.
Jan 10, 2023
Plans to be back for OTAs
Stafford (neck) said Monday that he expects to avoid surgery to address his spinal cord contusion and plans to be a full participant for OTAs in April, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports. "I had obviously the thumb a couple years ago, and then elbow stuff that I wasn't able to really participate in a whole lot of stuff when it comes to throwing the football for a long time," Stafford said. "So to be able to do that at a way more regular pace, which is exciting for me as a player, that's what I want to do.
ANALYSIS
After guiding the Rams to a Super Bowl title in his first season with the team in 2021, Stafford didn't throw in offseason workouts last spring while he battled elbow tendinitis. Even though he concluded the 2022 campaign on injured reserve, Stafford looks like he'll enter the Rams' offseason program more healthy than he was at the same point a year ago. Having received assurances from doctors that he won't require a potentially career-threatening surgery for his spinal cord, the 34-year-old Stafford has dismissed the possibility of retirement and also noted Monday that he remains committed to the Rams in spite of the uncertainty of whether head coach Sean McVay will stick with the organization in 2023.
Dec 20, 2022
No intention of retiring
Stafford (neck) said Tuesday he has no plans to retire, Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford simply responded "no" when asked if he intends to retire on "The Morning After" podcast, hosted by his wife Kelly. The veteran quarterback won't play again in 2022 due to a spinal cord contusion, but he's expected to avoid any sort of offseason procedure and instead make a full recovery through rehab. The 34-year-old signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Rams last March, all of which is guaranteed for injury, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. It's possible the 34-year-old could be medically cleared in time for OTAs this spring, but for the time being the Rams look set to roll with Baker Mayfield for the remainder of the 2022 campaign.
Dec 9, 2022
Should avoid spinal cord procedure
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Friday that Stafford won't require any sort of procedure while the quarterback recovers from a spinal cord contusion, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Though some observers around the league speculated that Stafford might need surgery to address the injury if he wanted to keep his career going, McVay was adamant that the 34-year-old will be able to make a full recovery through rest and rehab and is expected to have a healthy offseason. While Stafford is on the mend, the Rams plan to finish out their season with waiver pickup Baker Mayfield as their starting quarterback. Stafford could receive full medical clearance ahead of OTAs in the spring as he heads into the first season of the four-year, $160 million contract extension he inked last March.
Dec 5, 2022
Expected to have healthy offseason
Coach Sean McVay said Monday that Stafford's neck injury isn't a long-term issue, and the quarterback is expected to have a "healthy offseason," Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This essentially confirms Stafford is done for the year, which was expected after he was placed on IR ahead of Sunday's loss to Seattle due to a spinal cord contusion. However, this appears to be a promising update for the future, as a healthy offseason should allow Stafford to work out some of the kinks that led to a disappointing 2022 campaign.
Dec 4, 2022
Likely done for season
Coach Sean McVay said Sunday that Stafford is dealing with a spinal cord contusion and will likely miss the remainder of the season, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was placed on injured reserve Saturday and was ineligible to return until at least Week 17, and he'll likely be held out given the nature of his injury. The 34-year-old had also spent time in the league's concussion protocols in recent weeks and has appeared in just nine games this year. If he's shut down for the season, he'll finish the year having completed 68.0 percent of his pass attempts for 2,087 yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions while rushing 13 times for nine yards and a score. John Wolford will likely continue to serve as the Rams' starting quarterback in Stafford's absence.
Dec 3, 2022
Lands on IR, possibly out for season
Stafford (neck) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford is eligible to return in Week 17, but given the Rams' record through 13 weeks, it's hard to imagine the team will have much incentive to activate the Super Bowl winning QB in what amounts to a lost season. The veteran quarterback began the year with questions regarding his damaged elbow, but Stafford seemed to ease those concerns with six consecutive weeks throwing for no less than 240 yards. While his 10:8 TD:INT ratio will go down as one of the worst rates in his career, it's hard to fault Stafford too much given the litany of injuries and poor play among the Rams' pass catchers. It's possible the Rams and Stafford could revisit the medical gameplan regarding his elbow given the 34-year-old now has an elongated recovery timeline, but expect more clarity on that situation to occur over the coming weeks.
Dec 2, 2022
Out this week, uncertain beyond
Stafford (neck) won't play in Sunday's game against Seattle and remains uncertain to return this season despite clearing concussion protocol this week, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Rams still have a ton of injuries on the offensive line and aren't realistically in the playoff hunt, so Stafford might be shut down even if he's medically cleared to play. He's dealing with a neck injury in addition to his second stint this season in concussion protocol, leaving John Wolford as the starter Sunday against the Seahawks, though coach Sean McVay suggested he could also use Perkins, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
Nov 30, 2022
Unlikely to play in Week 13
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that it's "safe to say" Stafford (concussion/neck) isn't in line to play Sunday against the Seahawks, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
McVay relayed that tidbit after telling Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com that Stafford still is in the concussion protocol and will be held out of practice Wednesday. Stafford hasn't made any noticeable progress through the protocol, and assuming he's eventually ruled out for Sunday's game, McVay will have to choose between John Wolford and Bryce Perkins as the Rams' starting quarterback this weekend.
Nov 27, 2022
Improving, but looks week-to-week
Stafford (neck), who has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Chiefs, is showing improvement with his symptoms as he navigates the NFL's concussion protocol, and the Rams appear to view him as week-to-week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was diagnosed with a concussion following the Rams' Week 9 loss to the Buccaneers, resulting in him being ruled out for his first game of the season in the team's Week 10 loss to the Cardinals. He returned to the lineup Week 11, only to exit early in the Rams' loss to the Saints after re-entering the concussion protocol. According to sources familiar with the situation, Rapoport notes that Stafford hasn't been officially diagnosed with another concussion, but the quarterback is dealing with crossover symptoms that has kept him in the protocol for the second time in three weeks out of an abundance of caution. Notably, head coach Sean McVay said that Stafford is dealing with a neck strain and experienced numbness in his legs after taking a hard hit against the Saints, but those symptoms have reportedly dissipated over the past few days. Even though the Rams enter Sunday's game sitting on a 3-7 record and will be heavy underdogs against the Chiefs with the unproven Bryce Perkins set to make his first ca

Uncertain to play again this season
The Rams are uncertain if Stafford (neck/concussion protocol) will be available to play again this season, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After he entered the concussion protocol for the second time in less than a month following his early exit from the Rams' Week 11 loss to the Saints, Stafford didn't practice in any fashion this week before being ruled out ahead of Sunday's game in Kansas City. As Schefter notes, Stafford suffered a strained neck in the game against the Saints, but he hasn't yet been diagnosed with his second concussion of the season, despite his inclusion in the protocol. However, with head coach Sean McVay noting that Stafford was experiencing some numbness in his legs after taking a hit in the game against the Saints, the 3-7 Rams could be inclined to take a cautious approach with the 34-year-old. Despite their unfavorable position in the NFC playoff picture, the Rams aren't yet planning to shut Stafford down completely, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. With that in mind, Stafford looks like he'll avoid being placed on injured reserve for the time being and will be evaluated on a game-by-game basis.

Ruled out for Week 12 action
Coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that Stafford won't play Sunday at Kansas City due to a neck issue, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McVay added that Stafford also is in the protocol for head injuries, the second time he's found himself there in three weeks, but that doesn't necessarily mean the quarterback has a concussion. According to Barshop, Stafford's early departure this past Sunday in New Orleans stemmed from him feeling numbness in his legs following a hit. Considering the NFL expanded the symptoms required for entry into the concussion protocol earlier this season, it likely explains Stafford's current situation. In any case, with John Wolford dealing with a neck injury of his own, Bryce Perkins is expected to take most of the first-team reps during Week 12 prep and potentially be the Rams' starting quarterback Sunday, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Still being evaluated
After undergoing further testing Monday, the Rams have yet to place Stafford in the NFL's concussion protocol, Skyler Carlin of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
At this stage, the QB is still being evaluated and coach Sean McVay said that it's unclear if Stafford -- who was replaced by Bryce Perkins during Sunday's loss to the Saints -- will be placed in the protocol ahead of this weekend's game against the Chiefs. The Rams' Week 12 signal-caller situation is thus TBD, given Stafford's uncertain status, as well as the fact that John Wolford was inactive versus New Orleans due to a neck injury.
Nov 20, 2022
Not in concussion protocol yet
Stafford isn't in the concussion protocol after Sunday's 27-20 loss at New Orleans, but he's slated for additional tests Monday and/or Tuesday to determine if he'll enter it, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford departed in the third quarter to be evaluated for a head injury, and it's unknown whether or not he sustained one. Previously, he didn't enter the protocol until the Tuesday after a loss at Tampa Bay on Sunday, Nov. 6, so there is precedence for such a late diagnosis for Stafford. With John Wolford inactive this Sunday due to a neck injury, Bryce Perkins took over under center for Stafford, completing five of 10 passes for 64 yards and recording five carries for 39 yards.
Nov 20, 2022
Exits Sunday's game
Stafford is being evaluated for a concussion during Sunday's game against the Saints.
ANALYSIS
With Stafford out of the game, Bryce Perkins is now in at QB for the Rams. Stafford was inactive last week due to a concussion but cleared the protocol ahead of Sunday. Prior to his exit, Stafford completed 11 of 18 passes for 159 yards and two TDs.
Nov 18, 2022
Cleared to play
Stafford (concussion) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game in New Orleans, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford returns after missing a game, but his offensive line still is banged up, and now he won't have star wide receiver Cooper Kupp (ankle, IR). The New Orleans defense isn't in much better shape with four starters ruled out on the final injury report, including top cornerback Marshon Lattimore (abdomen) and DEs Cameron Jordan (eye) and Marcus Davenport (calf).
Nov 18, 2022
On track to play
Coach Sean McVay said Friday he expects Stafford (concussion) to play Sunday in New Orleans, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official website reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was a full practice participant Wednesday and Thursday and apparently is on track to clear concussion protocol before Sunday. If so, he'll have a tough task ahead of him, playing behind an injury-riddled, struggling offensive line, with star receiver Cooper Kupp (ankle) out for at least four games and possibly the rest of the season. New Orleans also has been hit hard by injuries this year, including four defensive starters missing practice both Wednesday and Thursday.
Nov 17, 2022
Another full practice
Stafford (concussion) was a full practice participant Thursday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford now has strung together back-to-back uncapped sessions, but there's been no word yet that he's cleared the five phases of the concussion protocol, which is where he's resided since last Tuesday, Nov. 8 and sidelined him this past Sunday against the Cardinals. Meanwhile, the Rams' No. 2 quarterback John Wolford was limited Thursday after sitting out Wednesday due to a stiff neck. Coach Sean McVay expects Stafford to play Sunday at New Orleans, but he likely still has to complete the last phase of the aforementioned protocol in order to do so.
Nov 16, 2022
Logs full practice, should play
Stafford (concussion) was a full practice participant Wednesday and is expected to gain clearance for Sunday's game at New Orleans, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford likely will make it back after one missed game, but he'll be rejoining an offense that won't have Cooper Kupp (ankle) for at least a month and potentially the rest of the season. That leaves Stafford with Allen Robinson, Van Jefferson and Ben Skowronek as his most experienced options at wide receiver, while Tyler Higbee and Brycen Hopkins are the tight ends.
Nov 15, 2022
Stuck in concussion protocol
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Tuesday that Stafford remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, Eric Williams of FoxSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McVay wouldn't confirm that Stafford has been diagnosed with a concussion in the aftermath of the Rams' Week 9 loss to the Buccaneers, but the fact that the quarterback has now been stuck in the protocol for seven days suggests he's dealing with a head injury. The coach indicated that the Rams should have a better idea regarding Stafford's potential availability for Sunday's game in New Orleans later Tuesday or Wednesday, but John Wolford -- who started in place of Stafford in the Week 10 loss to the Cardinals -- may continue to see first-team reps at quarterback to begin prep for the Week 11 matchup. Even if Stafford clears the protocol in advance of the game against the Saints, he'll be working behind a depleted offensive line and won't have top target Cooper Kupp (ankle) available, after McVay said the standout receiver would require a "tightrope procedure" Wednesday that will keep him sidelined for at least the next four games.
Nov 13, 2022
Not playing Sunday
Stafford (concussion) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After entering the concussion protocol Tuesday, Stafford was unable to mix into drills until Friday, when he was limited at practice. Despite entering the weekend as questionable, he seemed like a long shot to play Week 10 considering the quick turnaround following the diagnosis, and he indeed won't be available Sunday. In Stafford's place, John Wolford will make the sixth appearance and third start of his career. Stafford will look to clear the aforementioned protocol ahead of next Sunday's road matchup with the Saints.
Nov 12, 2022
Unlikely to play
Stafford (concussion), officially listed as questionable, is unlikely to play Sunday against the Cardinals, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford hasn't been officially ruled out, but he'll need to clear concussion protocol by Sunday morning in order to suit up, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. He's reportedly shown progress throughout the week, so the Rams are trying to give him as much time as possible prior to declaring him out. If Stafford is unable to clear protocol, John Wolford would serve as the Rams' starting quarterback.
Nov 11, 2022
Questionable after limited practice
Stafford (concussion) was a limited practice participant Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's return at the end of the week gives him at least some chance to play, after he was placed in concussion protocol Tuesday and held out of practice Wednesday and Thursday. The Rams will turn to backup QB John Wolford if Stafford isn't cleared by the team's medical staff and an independent neurologist before Sunday. The Rams and Cardinals are scheduled for a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
Nov 11, 2022
Questionable for Sunday
Stafford (concussion) will be listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, with coach Sean McVay noting Friday that the quarterback is "making good progress", Stu Jackson of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford entered concussion protocol Tuesday and didn't practice Wednesday or Thursday. He'll now take the field Friday and hope to be cleared by an independent neurologist over the weekend before the Rams and Cardinals kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Nov 10, 2022
Officially DNP on Thursday
Stafford (concussion) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
With no activity yet since entering the concussion protocol Tuesday, Stafford could be destined for his first absence since joining the Rams in January 2021. The only glimmer of hope may be that he was able to take in the second session of Week 10 prep in street clothes on the side, according to Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. Still, if Stafford remains a DNP on Friday, coach Sean McVay could clear up the entire situation by ruling him out and/or naming backup John Wolford the starting quarterback for Sunday's game versus the Cardinals.
Nov 10, 2022
Not suited up for practice
Stafford (concussion) was present but not in practice gear for Thursday's session, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com and Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, Stafford initially wasn't seen on the field Thursday, but his lack of the aforementioned gear after showing up likely implies that another DNP is on tap to kick off Week 10 prep. Stafford entered the protocol for head injuries Tuesday, so he may not have enough time to complete all five phases before Sunday's contest against the Cardinals. If the preceding comes to pass and Stafford is inactive, John Wolford is next up to direct the Rams offense.
Nov 9, 2022
Misses practice with concussion
Stafford (concussion) didn't practice Wednesday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic, Rams coach Sean McVay revealed Wednesday that Stafford was put in the concussion protocol Tuesday based on his discussion with team physicians in the aftermath of a loss to the Bucs this past Sunday. If Stafford isn't cleared before Sunday's game against Arizona, the already-struggling Rams offense will be led by backup QB John Wolford.
Nov 9, 2022
Enters concussion protocol
Coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that Stafford is in the concussion protocol, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The going was rough for Stafford during this past Sunday's 16-13 loss at Tampa Bay, when he completed 13 of 27 passes for 165 yards and one touchdown, was sacked four times and overall took eight quarterback hits. Now, he's in the protocol for head injuries, meaning he's subject to its five phases in order to gain clearance for game action. Wednesday's injury report may give an indication of Stafford's current standing. Namely, if he logs some activity, he could be on a course to playing Sunday versus the Cardinals.
Nov 6, 2022
Struggles in Week 9 loss
Stafford completed 13 of 27 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
It was a rough day for both offenses, but Stafford wound up with one of his worst performances of the year, setting a new season low in passing yards and completing fewer than 50 percent of his passes for the first time as a Ram. His offensive line once again struggled against any kind of pass rush, and the veteran QB was sacked four times -- the fourth time in the last six games he's been brought down that often. Stafford will hope to get enough time in the pocket to rebound in Week 10 against the Cardinals.
Oct 30, 2022
Rushing TD saves quiet fantasy day
Stafford completed 22 of 33 pass attempts for 187 yards and a touchdown and rushed twice for a loss of one yard and another touchdown in Sunday's 31-14 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Stafford scored his first rushing touchdown since 2016, saving what would have been a down fantasy day in terms of passing stats. The bad news for the veteran signal-caller is that Cooper Kupp (ankle) left the game late, so Stafford could be without his top wideout -- and seemingly only reliable receiver -- next Sunday against the Buccaneers. With or without Kupp, it will be a tough matchup for Stafford against a defense that ranks sixth in yards allowed to opposing quarterbacks (194.0 per game).
Oct 16, 2022
Shakes off mistake against Carolina
Stafford completed 26 of 33 passes for 253 yards and a touchdown with one interception in Sunday's 24-10 win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
The veteran quarterback struggled early once again and threw a pick-six to Donte Jackson that resulted in the Rams heading into halftime down 10-7. Stafford turned things around in the second half however, eliminating further miscues and guiding Los Angeles to 17 unanswered points. He's committed at least one turnover in all but one game so far this season, but Stafford seems to be righting his ship and will get the Rams' bye week to prepare ahead of a Week 8 clash with the 49ers.
Oct 9, 2022
Tops 300 yards in Week 5 loss
Stafford completed 28 of 42 passes for 308 yards with a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 22-10 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
The veteran quarterback was under constant pressure all day, but when Stafford had a bit of time he was able to move the ball. Unfortunately, when he didn't he got sacked five times and fumbled on two of them, with DeMarcus Lawrence returning one of those fumbles for a 19-yard TD. It was Stafford's first 300-yard performance of the year, but his 5:7 TD:INT through five games is a major regression from his 2021 numbers. He'll look to cut down on the turnovers in Week 6 against the Panthers.
Oct 3, 2022
Battered by 49ers
Stafford completed 32 of 48 passes for 254 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Monday's 24-9 loss to San Francisco. He added six yards on two rushing attempts and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
San Francisco's defense flummoxed Stafford throughout the night and sacked him seven times, as the Rams struggled to move the ball on most of their drives and settled for field goals whenever they got any momentum going. It was still a one-possession game in the fourth quarter until Stafford's back-breaking pick-six, which was taken 52 yards to the house by budding defensive star Talanoa Hufanga. Stafford ended Los Angeles' next possession with a fumble, putting to bed any doubt about the final result. He'll bring an alarmingly poor 4:6 TD:INT into a tough Week 5 matchup against the talented Dallas defense.
Sep 25, 2022
Quiet in Sunday's win
Stafford completed 18 of 25 passes for 249 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in Sunday's 20-12 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Neither offense could get much going, and when the Rams did get close to the end zone they relied on their ground game to punch in the ball. Stafford had thrown at least one TD in 23 straight games to begin his tenure in Los Angeles, including last year's playoff run to a Super Bowl title, and he'll look to begin a new streak in Week 4 on the road against the 49ers.
Sep 18, 2022
Three touchdowns against Atlanta
Stafford completed 27 of 36 pass attempts for 272 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 31-27 win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Stafford led the Rams on touchdown drives for three of the team's first four possessions. He capped two of those three drives with touchdown passes of one and three yards. Despite the positive portions of his performance, Stafford also turned the ball over twice and was far less efficient from a scoring perspective in the second half. While the Rams walked away with a win Sunday, Stafford has thrown three touchdowns as compared to five interceptions across his first two games of the campaign.
Sep 8, 2022
Rocky start in season-opening loss
Stafford completed 29 of 41 passes for 240 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions in the Rams' 31-10 loss to the Bills on Thursday night. He also rushed once for two yards and fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's final numbers were serviceable except for the interceptions, but the actual on-field results were much more lackluster. Two of the veteran signal-caller's three interceptions came in Bills territory, and Stafford also was under constant duress, as evidenced by the whopping seven sacks he took. His connection with Cooper Kupp -- who he hit on 13 occasions for 128 yards and a touchdown -- was about the only aspect of his play that bore resemblance to his body of work from last year's title-winning campaign, and he'll therefore have plenty to work on going into a Week 2 home matchup against the Falcons a week from Sunday.

OK after elbow procedure, injection
Stafford underwent a procedure on his right elbow earlier in the offseason in addition to receiving an anti-inflammatory injection, but the quarterback reiterated a few days ago that he expects to have "no limitations" heading into Thursday's season opener versus the Bills, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Rams head coach Sean McVay had previously confirmed earlier in the summer that Stafford received the injection, which McVay described as a treatment method that was "a little bit abnormal for a quarterback." Schefter's report of Stafford requiring a procedure for his throwing elbow is new information, but the 34-year-old supposedly feels better heading into the 2022 campaign than he did at this point in 2021, when he played through lingering pain in the elbow. The injury wasn't apparent in his production, as Stafford tied his career high with 41 touchdown passes while averaging a strong 8.1 yards per attempt during the regular season before guiding the Rams to a Super Bowl title in February. Stafford wasn't included on the Rams' injury report leading up to Thursday's opener, and McVay mentioned that any potential management plan for the quarterback's elbow will be "no different" from 2021.
Sep 4, 2022
No limitations for Thursday
Rams head coach Sean McVay said Sunday that Stafford (elbow) will have no limitations during Thursday's season opener against the Bills, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford dealt with discomfort in his right elbow that required an offseason injection, but he's since returned to full practices and won't have any limitations during the season opener. Per Rodrigue, McVay said Sunday that the Rams plan to manage Stafford's arm similarly to how they did last season, so it appears to be an ongoing issue despite it being labeled as an "abnormal" injury at first. When asked if Stafford could throw 50-plus passes Thursday, McVay said, "no hesitation."
Aug 16, 2022
Back-to-back full practices
Stafford (elbow) put together another full practice during Tuesday's scrimmage, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford also logged a full session Monday in what was termed a shortened practice. At the time, coach Sean McVay said Stafford would handle every rep Tuesday, which came to pass. McVay added that Stafford displayed "great energy, great command. Threw the ball incredibly accurately. Really activated all parts of our pass game." Stafford tended to discomfort in his right elbow this offseason, which followed him into training camp. The Rams and McVay don't seem to be particularly worried about the issue, but Stafford has rested at times and also had limitations on the field, so his ascension to all activity in back-to-back practices is an encouraging sign.
Aug 15, 2022
Throws in abbreviated practice
Stafford (elbow) was a full participant in team sessions during the Rams' shortened practice Monday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford first resumed throwing during individual sessions in practice last Tuesday after missing time this offseason while dealing with right elbow discomfort, per Barshop. Rams coach Sean McVay also said that the 34-year-old signal-caller is scheduled to be a full participant during the team's longer scrimmage Tuesday. Stafford's ability to participate in further team sessions would be an encouraging sign for his availability heading into Week 1 and beyond.
Aug 9, 2022
Resumes throwing
Stafford (elbow) is throwing in individual drills Tuesday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford continues to manage elbow discomfort after an offseason injection, returning to practice Tuesday just as coach Sean McVay predicted a day earlier. The 34-year-old QB has been in and out of practice throughout training camp, with the Rams remaining optimistic he'll be ready for Week 1 against Buffalo. There is some chance it's a problem for Stafford all year, potentially impacting his practice availability even if he's able to play in games.
Aug 8, 2022
Rests arm Monday
Coach Sean McVay relayed that Stafford (elbow) not throwing during Monday's practice was planned, with the QB expected to resume throwing Tuesday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As long as Stafford faces any sort of throwing limitations, his progress will be worth monitoring, but Jourdan Rodrigueof The Athletic notes that the veteran QB isn't too concerned about an elbow issue that he describes as "something that is irritating, at the moment" but one that Stafford is working through in anticipation of being ready for Week 1 action.
Aug 4, 2022
Dealing with nontraditional injury
Coach Sean McVay called the discomfort in Matthew Stafford's right elbow "a little bit abnormal for a quarterback" Thursday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
McVay also confirmed a report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that Stafford got an injection in his right elbow this offseason, which likely was the reason he didn't throw in OTAs or mandatory minicamp. While Stafford resumed throwing at the starting of training camp, he took a seat from team drills Monday and will be capped at non-team work until Wednesday, Aug. 10 due to lingering elbow tendinitis. In the end, his goal is to be ready for Week 1, so limitations on the practice field may dominate his activity in camp, and he may even need to manage pain during the regular season.
Aug 4, 2022
Bothered by elbow tendinitis
Stafford is still dealing with elbow tendinitis, and while he "did not get to a place he really needs to be" after an offseason procedure, the Rams expect him to be fine for the upcoming season, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
ANALYSIS
Rapoport says the offseason procedure was a "PRP-type deal" rather than a surgery. Stafford didn't throw at spring practices and had his reps limited through the first week of training camp, with coach Sean McVay recently mentioning Wednesday (Aug. 10) as a target date to resume throwing in team drills. Stafford is expected to start Week 1, but with some possibility he'll need to manage pain/discomfort during the season.
Aug 3, 2022
Not throwing in team drills
Coach Sean McVay indicated Wednesday that he doesn't expect Stafford to throw in any team drills before Aug. 10, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
That date coincides with the completion of the squad's training camp practices at Irvine, Ca. That said, McVay reiterated that he's not overly concerned about Stafford's elbow and that the Rams' goal is simply to make sure that Stafford is ready for the team's Sept. 8 season opener against the Bills.
Aug 1, 2022
Sits out team drills
Stafford (elbow) didn't work in team drills Monday, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Sean McVay noted that the approach was taken because the QB is "still feeling a little bit of pain." Despite that comment, McVay indicated that he's not too concerned, suggesting that Stafford could push through the pain, but "that's not the goal with somebody like him." With that in mind, consider Stafford day-to-day until he's next able to fully participate in team drills.
Jul 31, 2022
Moves past elbow issue
Stafford, who didn't throw during spring workouts as he dealt with a right elbow issue, has resumed throwing in training camp, ESPN's Sarah Barshop reports.
ANALYSIS
In the process, the veteran QB has been able to begin building his on-field rapport with Allen Robinson, who was signed this offseason to bolster a wide receiver corps that also includes returnees Cooper Kupp and Van Jefferson (knee), but no longer currently rosters Robert Woods (traded to the Titans) and Odell Beckham (still unsigned). Per Barshop, as training camp has progressed, the chemistry between Stafford and Robinson appears to be developing, with the report noting that the two connected on a nice play during team drills Saturday, which resulted in the signal caller finding Robinson between two defenders in the back of the end zone.
May 23, 2022
Not throwing during OTAs
Stafford didn't throw during Los Angeles' voluntary OTAs on Monday due to the inflammatory injection he received in his elbow this offseason, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford said in mid-April -- less than six weeks after the injection -- that his arm was feeling great, but he'll continue to play it safe during the offseason to avoid any potential setbacks. Rams head coach Sean McVay said the quarterback likely won't throw at all during OTAs, but he expects him to ramp things up for the start of training camp in July, per Kevin Modesti of the Los Angeles Daily News.
Apr 19, 2022
Says arm feels good
Stafford said Tuesday that he's feeling great, less than six weeks after he had an anti-inflammatory shot in his arm, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford initially used a brace after the shot but doesn't need one as the Rams begin their offseason program Tuesday. He's surrounded by many of the same players from last year, minus LT Andrew Whitworth (retired) and WRs Robert Woods (Titans) and Odell Beckham (FA). The Rams signed Allen Robinson to replace Woods/Beckham, and they seemingly have a competent replacement for Whitworth in 2018 third-round pick Joe Notebook, who signed a three-year extension in March. It's a good setup for Stafford on the heels of his career year in 2021.
Mar 19, 2022
Signs massive extension
Stafford agreed to a four-year extension Saturday with the Rams worth up $160 million including $135 million in guarantees, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford still had one year left on his deal, but the Rams made sure to lock up the Super Bowl winning quarterback at a relatively affordable rate with upper-echelon quarterback play exploding in price over the last month. While Stafford will average $40 million per season over the duration of his extension, the move was made in an effort to free up more space for potential free agent signings according to Schefter. The Rams already signed burgeoning star wide receiver Allen Robinson in the offseason and have been rumored to re-sign Odell Beckham whose torn ACL in the Super Bowl could have him return to the field in November.

Delivers in Super Bowl crunch time
Stafford completed 26 of 40 passes for 283 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions during the Rams' 23-20 win over the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI on Sunday. He also rushed three times for six yards.
ANALYSIS
The veteran signal-caller culminated his first season outside of the football purgatory known as Detroit with a thrilling game-winning drive to secure a Super Bowl championship for the Rams on their home field. On his way there, Stafford had to navigate the absence of trusted tight end Tyler Higbee (knee) and the first-half exit of Odell Beckham, who suffered what appeared to be a serious knee injury of his own. Stafford had opened the game clicking on all cylinders while connecting on nine of his first 10 pass attempts, including touchdown passes of 17 and 11 yards to Beckham and Cooper Kupp, respectively. However, the entire air attack mostly fell into a malaise following Beckham's exit, with Los Angeles only managing a 41-yard Matt Gay field goal until a game-winning 15-play, 79-yard march late in the fourth quarter. Stafford turned back to Kupp, who the Bengals had focused on heavily after Beckham's departure, to spearhead the drive and capped it off with a perfect back-shoulder throw to his star wideout

Comes up big in NFCCG win
Stafford completed 31 of 45 passes for 337 yards with two touchdowns and one interception during the Rams' 20-17 win over the 49ers in their NFC Championship Game matchup Sunday. He also rushed five times for eight yards.
ANALYSIS
The long-suffering veteran finally punched a ticket to the Super Bowl in his 13th season, playing a critical role by generating his second straight 300-yard postseason effort. Stafford's afternoon certainly didn't start off on the right foot, however, as he missed an open Odell Beckham to end the Rams' first possession and was then intercepted by Jimmie Ward at the goal line on Los Angeles' second drive. Stafford found his stride in the second half despite having to navigate a pair of sacks and persistent pressure, connecting with his starting wideout duo of Cooper Kupp and Beckham for 20 of his completions, 255 of his yards and both his touchdowns, with Kupp garnering both scores. Stafford will now set his sights on trying to cap off a Cinderella debut Rams campaign with a victory in Super Bowl LVI on his home turf of SoFi Stadium on Feb. 13.
Jan 23, 2022
Masterful in playoff victory
Stafford completed 28 of 38 pass attempts for 366 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for six yards and another score on four attempts in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Stafford and Cooper Kupp dominated Tampa Bay's secondary from start to finish, with the duo's only blemishes coming in the fourth quarter on a pair of lost fumbles (the botched snap was credited to center Brian Allen). From a fantasy perspective, this was about as clean of an outing as you could ask for from the Rams' quarterback. Stafford has now scored three combined touchdowns in three consecutive games, the first of which came against the same San Francisco defense he will be facing in the next round. The dominant QB-WR duo saved their best for last when Kupp outran the entire defense and Stafford fired a rocket that hit his favorite target in stride to set up the game-winning field goal as time expired. Stafford will now move on to face the 49ers in the NFC Championship game, and his value should be treated similarly to this week, as the 49ers' secondary is prone to being beat over the top. If veteran left tackle, Andrew Whitworth (knee), is able to return before next Sunday, it will only boost Stafford

Stafford started by finding Odell Beckham for a four-yard touchdown to cap the Rams' second offensive drive. He then marched Los Angeles down to the goal line on its next series, which he punctuated with a one-yard sneak into the end zone. To begin the second half, Stafford found favorite target Cooper Kupp for a seven-yard score, giving Los Angeles 28 unanswered points at the time. Although that commanding lead as well as Los Angeles' apparent gameplan resulted in a more balanced offensive approach, Stafford was nonetheless very efficient with his play. Whether or not he's needed to pass more often in the NFC divisional round versus the Buccaneers, Stafford should take confidence from Monday's clean performance into that tough matchup.

Estimated as full participant
Stafford (toe) was a full participant at Thursday's walkthrough, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Sean McVay stated Monday that Stafford came out of the Rams' Week 18 loss to the 49ers with a toe injury. While he was seen limping at one point this past Sunday, Stafford revealed Thursday that he picked it up on a third-down pass to Cooper Kupp, according to Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic. Per the quarterback, his health is OK four days removed from getting hurt, and the issue shouldn't impact him during Monday's postseason opener against the Cardinals. Assuming he continues to string together uncapped practices, Stafford soon will earn his 18th start in as many chances as a member of the Rams.

Dealing with toe injury
Coach Sean McVay said Monday that Stafford injured his toe during a Week 18 loss to the 49ers, Cameron DeSilva of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was seen limping around during Sunday's game, which inhibited McVay from calling plays like designed rollouts. In the end, Stafford put together a fair performance, completing 21 of 32 passes for 238 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while playing all 65 snaps on offense. McVay relayed Stafford should be OK to play in next Monday's wild-card game against the Cardinals, but it seems as if the quarterback will be under some restrictions once the Rams get on the practice field later this week.

Starts hot, finishes poorly
Stafford completed 21 of 32 pass attempts for 238 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 27-24 overtime loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Stafford came out of the gates firing, completing his first nine pass attempts and finishing 15 of 16 with two scores in the first half. The 49ers made adjustments on both sides of the ball, limiting the Rams' passing game in the second half and securing victory in overtime. Despite the loss, the veteran quarterback finishes the regular season with one of the best efforts of his career. Stafford will carry final totals of 4,886 passing yards, 41 touchdowns and 17 interceptions into the first round of the playoffs.
Jan 2, 2022
Just enough to win
Stafford completed 26 of 35 pass attempts for 309 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions against Baltimore on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's game was far from clean -- he started slowly and lost a fumble in addition to the two interceptions -- but instead of just blame for Stafford some amount of credit has to be given to the Ravens defense, which played a strong game despite a number of crucial injuries in the secondary. The 20-19 victory took the Rams down to the wire, with Stafford throwing the game-winning touchdown to Odell Beckham with about a minute left in the game. Stafford has struggled to create consistent production with any of his pass catchers aside from Cooper Kupp, who was once again automatic (six catches for 95 yards and one touchdown on seven targets), so that's one area where Stafford could improve as the Rams prepare for their playoff run. The Rams face the 49ers in Week 18.
Dec 26, 2021
Picked off three times
Stafford completed 21 of 37 passes for 197 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Sunday's 30-23 win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Stafford struggled with turnovers, and his three interceptions led directly to 10 points for the Vikings. Despite also failing to throw for over 200 yards for the first time this season, the Rams managed to emerge with a victory. Stafford did manage to connect for a seven-yard touchdown with Odell Beckham late in the game to put the team up 14, salvaging his performance to some degree. Despite the poor performance, Stafford should be in a position to bounce back in Week 17 against a depleted Baltimore secondary that has gotten picked apart in recent games.
Dec 21, 2021
Efficient in win Tuesday
Stafford completed 21 of 29 pass attempts for 244 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Tuesday's 20-10 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
This was a low-scoring stalemate of a game in the first half, but Stafford and Cooper Kupp (9-136-2) took over in the second half en route to the Rams' 10th win of the season. The veteran signal caller has really come on strong after heading into the Week 11 bye on a bit of a cold streak, averaging 282.0 passing yards with an 8:2 TD:INT ratio over his last four games. Stafford will attempt to stay sharp against Minnesota on Sunday, as both teams stand to gain a lot from a victory in that matchup.

Rams-Seahawks moved to Tuesday
Stafford and the Rams will no longer play the Seahawks on Sunday, after the NFL officially rescheduled the matchup between the two teams for Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
ANALYSIS
Due to ongoing COVID-19-related concerns within the Rams organization, the NFL is hopeful that by delaying the game two days, Los Angeles will be able to restore enough players from the reserve/COVID-19 list to alleviate depth concerns on the roster. After Tuesday's game, the Rams will face a quick turnaround for Week 16 with a Sunday game in Minnesota on Dec. 26.

Rams-Seahawks moved to Tuesday
Stafford and the Rams aren't in line to play the Seahawks on Sunday, with the NFL expected to reschedule the game for Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET, pending official confirmation, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

Throws three TDs in win
Stafford completed 23 of 30 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns in Monday night's 30-23 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Stafford hit Odell Beckham on a two-yard slant to open the scoring for the Rams. He continued to find Beckham throughout the first half, taking a few tough hits while incorporating top target Cooper Kupp as well. To begin the second half, though, Stafford unloaded a deep ball to Van Jefferson, giving Los Angeles the lead through their 52-yard touchdown. He then capitalized on a Kyler Murray interception by threading a four-yard touchdown into Cooper Kupp, who he subsequently leaned on while leading another scoring drive in the fourth quarter. Now with back-to-back games with three touchdowns and no turnovers, Stafford has rediscovered some of his best form ahead of Week 15's divisional clash versus the Seahawks.
Dec 5, 2021
Throws three touchdowns
Stafford completed 26 of 38 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns against Jacksonville on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Stafford started the game a bit slow but got hot in the second half, throwing one second-half touchdown to each of Cooper Kupp, Odell Beckham and Van Jefferson. The strong finish allowed Stafford to come through for his fantasy investors in a favorable matchup despite the slow start, but it would be nice to see Stafford throw a clean game from start to finish as the Rams prepare for a playoff run. Stafford heads to Arizona to face the Cardinals in Week 14, an opponent he somewhat struggled against at home in Week 4 (26 of 41 for 280 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in a 37-20 loss).
Nov 28, 2021
Launches two long touchdowns
Stafford completed 21 of 38 passes for 302 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 36-28 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
News emerged prior to the game that Stafford was playing through back pain, a sore ankle and recurring elbow pain. The issues didn't seem to hold back his performance, as he launched touchdown passes of 79 and 54 yards to Van Jefferson and Odell Beckham, respectively. The performance was also his first multi-touchdown and 300-passing yard effort since Week 8. Unfortunately for Stafford, he also made multiple big mistakes, including his third pick six in as many games late in the third quarter, which put the Rams behind 36-17.
Nov 28, 2021
Banged up heading into Week 12 game
Stafford wasn't on the Rams' injury report this week and remains on track to start Sunday against the Packers, but he'll do so while battling a sore ankle, chronic back pain and recurring pain in the elbow on his throwing arm, Dianna Russini of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford is notorious for playing through injuries throughout his career and doesn't appear at any immediate danger of missing time, but it's somewhat troubling that he's still feeling banged up coming out of the Rams' Week 11 bye. In Los Angeles' final two games before the open date in their schedule, Stafford took a big step back statistically from what was shaping up as a potential MVP-worthy campaign through the first eight weeks. In losses to the Titans and 49ers, Stafford completed 64 percent of his 89 throws for a weak 6.0 yards per attempt and a 2:4 TD:INT. A matchup against a Packers pass defense that yielded 341 yards and three touchdowns through the air in a Week 11 loss to the Vikings seemingly represents a solid get-right spot for Stafford on paper, but the fact that he'll have to nurse multiple injuries while playing in cold weather in Green Bay could make the veteran signal-caller a weaker fantasy option this week than expected.
Nov 15, 2021
Picked off twice in loss
Stafford completed 26 of 41 passes for 243 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions in Monday night's 31-10 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was picked on a deep ball to start the game, then saw a drop turn into an interception returned for touchdown on the next drive. Although more drops slowed him over the course of the game, Stafford also flirted with a couple other interceptions. Surely the sudden injury absence of wideout Robert Woods (knee) impacted the Rams' game plan, but Stafford has still struggled over his last two outings, throwing four picks in a pair of meager primetime defeats. Fortunately, Los Angeles now enters its bye week, which should not only give new signing Odell Beckham time to familiarize himself with the offense but also afford Stafford an opportunity to regather himself prior to facing the Packers in Week 12.
Nov 11, 2021
Not on injury report Thursday
Stafford (ankle) wasn't listed on Wednesday's injury report.
ANALYSIS
On Monday, coach Sean McVay relayed to Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site that Stafford was dealing with a "mild kind of ankle sprain" in the wake of Sunday's loss to the Titans. Stafford was dealing with discomfort at the time, but it dissipated enough that McVay mentioned Thursday that the quarterback wouldn't be limited in the first session of Week 10 prep, per Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. Indeed, McVay's expectation has come to pass, giving Stafford every practice rep as the Rams prepare to face the 49ers' fourth-ranked pass defense (206.5 yards allowed per game) Monday.
Nov 8, 2021
Suffers ankle sprain in Week 9
Stafford sprained his ankle during Sunday's 28-16 loss to the Titans, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford suffered the injury while attempting to evade pressure in the middle of the fourth quarter, and coach Sean McVay called the issue a "mild kind of ankle sprain" Monday. "He was sore today, but expect him to be able to take it a day at a time," McVay said. "But I think he'll be good to go." That's a mishmash of coach speak, and as such Stafford's activity level will be watched closely as the week goes on to get a sense of his odds to play Monday in San Francisco.
Nov 8, 2021
Struggles and rolls ankle in loss
Stafford (back/ankle) completed 31 of 48 pass attempts for 294 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 28-16 loss to Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Stafford entered the contest battling some back soreness, and while he was able to suit up, he then suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter of Sunday's loss. The veteran quarterback had his ankle wrapped and was able to stay in the game, but it is a situation to monitor during practices this week. As for the game itself, Stafford didn't have a particularly poor fantasy line, he simply made some uncharacteristically bad decisions on throws that eventually cost his team a chance at victory. Assuming he is healthy enough to suit up, a juicy matchup against the 49ers' porous secondary is on tap for Week 10.
Nov 5, 2021
In clear for Week 9
Stafford (back) returned to practice Friday as a limited participant and doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game against the Titans.
ANALYSIS
The Rams withheld Stafford from practices Wednesday and Thursday due to the back issue, but head coach Sean McVay never expressed much doubt about the veteran signal-caller's ability to play this weekend. Even though he had his reps capped in his return to practice, Stafford still looked good enough in the workout for the Rams to give him the green light for Sunday. He'll look to strengthen his MVP bid while facing off against a Tennessee pass defense that has surrendered 267.4 passing yards per game, which ranks 24th in the NFL.
Nov 4, 2021
Sits out Thursday's practice
Stafford (back) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
During the media-access portion of the session, Stafford didn't join the Rams' other quarterbacks for throwing, and the result was a second DNP in a row. Coach Sean McVay seems to be taking Week 9 prep easy on Stafford as the QB deals with a sore back. While Stafford may not get on the field Friday, either, he doesn't appear to be in danger of missing Sunday Night Football against the Titans. L.A.'s final injury report of the week may reveal as much.
Nov 3, 2021
Tending to sore back
Stafford will be held out of Wednesday's practice due to a sore back, Lindsey Thiry of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Sean McVay relayed the news, stating the Rams will hold a "modified jog thru" due to the banged-up nature of the squad. While Stafford won't work Wednesday, it doesn't impact his availability for game action, so his status likely will be cleared up by week's end. The same can be said for wide receiver Robert Woods, who also is resting Wednesday with a foot issue.
Oct 31, 2021
More strong production
Stafford completed 21 of 32 pass attempts for 305 yards and three touchdowns against Houston on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has been almost automatic in his first eight games with the Rams, with the one exception being his Week 4 game against Arizona, and even that game was fine for fantasy purposes (280 yards, two touchdowns and one interception). The Rams supporting cast is substantially better than what was in Detroit, and coach Sean McVay's scheme makes it even easier yet on Stafford, whose current passing efficiency is far ahead of even the best seasons of his Detroit career. His completion rate (68.9 percent) and yards per attempt average (9.1 yards) through eight games would easily mark new career highs, and the volume (2,477 yards, 22 touchdowns passing) is excellent, too. Stafford projects very well against Tennessee in Week 9.
Oct 24, 2021
Steady against former team
Stafford completed 28 of 41 pass attempts for 334 yards and three touchdowns against Detroit on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Stafford wasn't exactly explosive against his former team, averaging a somewhat modest 8.2 yards per attempt, but he kept the Rams offense on track all game and steadily led them into scoring range. He made touchdown passes when it counted, too, as his three scores were the only touchdowns the Rams punched in Sunday. The Rams running game will probably do more lifting against Houston in Week 8 after producing just 49 yards on 17 carries against Detroit on Sunday, but the throwing conditions should remain favorable for Stafford, too.
Oct 17, 2021
Four-touchdown effort in win
Stafford completed 22 of 28 passes for 251 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Rams' 38-11 win over the Giants on Sunday. He also rushed twice for 12 yards and recovered his own fumble.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's target pool was very Cooper Kupp-centered -- the standout receiver logged 11 looks from the veteran quarterback and was responsible for nine of his completions, 130 of his yards and two of his touchdowns -- but Robert Woods and Darrell Henderson also crossed the goal line on scoring grabs of 15 and 25 yards, respectively. Stafford was comfortably in command for most of the contest while averaging 9.0 yards per attempt and authoring his fifth multi-touchdown effort in six games. With a 16:3 TD:INT thus far in his Rams career, it appears safe to say the 33-year-old has undergone a rejuvenation by getting out Detroit and into Sean McVay's passer-friendly system. Stafford will look to stay hot in a highly favorable Week 7 home matchup against the Lions.
Oct 7, 2021
Explodes for 365 yards in win
Stafford completed 25 of 37 passes for 365 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Rams' 26-17 win over the Seahawks on Thursday night. He also rushed once for minus-1 yard.
ANALYSIS
Stafford worked with a very narrow target pool, hitting Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp for 19 of his completions and 242 of his yards. He also connected with DeSean Jackson on a game-long 68-yard bomb, all helping to lead to a season-high passing yardage tally for the veteran gunslinger. Stafford now has a trio of 300-yard efforts in just five games, and Thursday's win marked his first outing this season without multiple touchdown tosses. Stafford and his teammates will now have some extra time to rest up and prepare for a Week 6 cross-country road trip to face the Giants a week from Sunday.
Oct 3, 2021
Can't find rhythm in loss
Stafford completed 26 of 41 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 37-20 loss to the Cardinals. He added 21 rushing yards on six carries.
ANALYSIS
While his final numbers were solid, Stafford had trouble cracking the Arizona secondary and had a second INT wiped out by a questionable roughing the passer penalty. The veteran QB has tossed multiple touchdowns in four straight games to begin his tenure with the Rams, a streak he'll look to extend in Week 5 on the road against the Seahawks.
Sep 26, 2021
Lights up Tampa Bay
Stafford completed 27 of his 38 pass attempts for 343 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's Week 3 win over Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Stafford didn't lead the Rams to any points in the first quarter, but then went on to pass for touchdowns to conclude each of the team's next four drives. He continued to display rapport with Cooper Kupp -- he accounted for two of Stafford's touchdowns -- and also connected with DeSean Jackson for a 75-yard score. Through three games with the Rams, Stafford now has nine touchdowns as opposed to only one interception and has completed 11 passes of more than 20 yards to go along with five of more than 40 yards. Stafford should be in a good position to put up big numbers again in Week 4 as the Rams will take on the Cardinals.
Sep 19, 2021
Moves to 2-0 in Los Angeles
Stafford completed 19 of 30 passes for 278 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Rams' 27-24 win over the Colts on Sunday. He also rushed twice for one yard.
ANALYSIS
While the numbers may not have been as pretty as during a Week 1 shellacking of the Bears, Stafford still looked in complete command of his new team's offense and was particularly impressive considering the caliber of opponent and tough road environment. Stafford focused heavily on his pair of starting wideouts when dropping back, with 14 of his 19 completions going to Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods and the former bringing in both of his scoring tosses. The veteran gunslinger could hardly have asked for a better start to his Rams career, but he'll face his stiffest test yet in a Week 3 home battle against the Buccaneers.
Sep 13, 2021
Strong debut with Rams
Stafford completed 20 of 26 pass attempts for 321 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 34-14 win over the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Stafford did not look like he was playing in an entirely new offensive system in this one, carving up the Bears secondary with ease while finishing with a strong fantasy line. Cooper Kupp was clearly his favorite target, but the veteran quarterback spread the ball around well amongst both old and new Ram receivers. Joining up with a proven offensive mind in head coach Sean McVay could result in some of the best numbers we've seen from Stafford in his 12th season as a pro. The Rams will take on the Colts in Week 2.
Aug 8, 2021
No preseason action
Head coach Sean McVay recently indicated on Fox Sports Radio that Stafford will not play in the preseason. "There is zero chance you will ever see Matthew Stafford take a snap in the preseason for the Rams as long as I'm the coach. That will never happen."
ANALYSIS
McVay won't be taking any risks with his starting quarterback before the regular season. With No. 2 QB John Wolford week-to-week after recently undergoing an appendectomy, it seems as if second-year signal caller Bryce Perkins - who used his 4.55 speed to rush for over 750 yards with at least nine rushing scores in each of his final two years at Virginia - could handle a large amount of snaps when the Rams open the exhibition slate Aug. 14 against the Chargers. The team's only other quarterback under contract is third-year Samford product Devlin Hodges, who seems less likely to make the Rams' final roster than Perkins.
Aug 4, 2021
Practices without limitations
Stafford (thumb) handled a full workload at Tuesday's practice, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
A thumb contusion couldn't stop Stafford from suiting up for the first day of padded practice with his new team. He should be fine to make an appearance this preseason, though Rams coach Sean McVay typically has been cautious with his starters in August.
Aug 3, 2021
Gets in some reps Tuesday
Stafford (thumb) took part in a number of drills at Tuesday's practice, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford kicked off the session with some light throws, proceeded to take snaps in the shotgun, moved on to handoffs with running backs and then connected with both Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp deep down the field. If Stafford hadn't emerged from Monday's practice with a swollen right thumb due to hitting his hand on a teammate's helmet, it appeared he was going through his usual routine. His thumb was taped up, though, so his activities remain something to watch until he's over the current health concern.
Aug 3, 2021
Dealing with swollen thumb
Stafford has been diagnosed with a swollen right thumb after hitting his hand on a teammate's helmet at Monday's practice, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After the play, Stafford had his thumb taped up, and eventual X-rays on the region were returned negative. As a precaution, the Rams are expected to hold the quarterback out for a few days due to what's considered a minor injury. In Stafford's stead, John Wolford likely will get most of the run with the first-team offense, with Bryce Perkins and Devlin Hodges picking up any scraps.
Aug 2, 2021
Wacks thumb on helmet
Stafford hit his right thumb on a teammates helmet during Monday's practice and was shut down from throwing for the rest of the day, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford got his thumb taped up shortly after the incident, and according to Rodrigue, he appeared to have a good grip on his helmet and a towel. Coach Sean McVay said after practice that he didn't have further details on the injury, but he believes his starting quarterback will be okay. Stafford's status will be worth monitoring moving forward.
May 24, 2021
Feeling back to full health
Stafford (thumb) said Monday he's "not limited at all" after having undergone a procedure back in March, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford played through a torn UCL in his right thumb in 2020, and while he required a minor March surgery to address the issue, it looks like he won't be limited at all during his first offseason with coach Sean McVay and the Rams. That will allow the 33-year-old veteran plenty of time to build chemistry with new receivers Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, DeSean Jackson and Van Jefferson, not to mention tight end Tyler Higbee and second-year running back Cam Akers. Last season Stafford also dealt with injuries including ankle, knee and elbow issues, plus torn rib cartilage, but he appears to have returned to full health without any setbacks.
Apr 1, 2021
Recovering from thumb surgery
Stafford underwent surgery on his right thumb in March, Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford emerged from last season with an array of injuries, including a partially torn UCL in that thumb, a torn UCL in his left elbow, torn rib cartilage, a sprained ankle and a left knee issue. Following his trade from the Lions to the Rams, he appears to have addressed the first concern, which was described as "elective" and "minor." With his new squad, Stafford will have reliable pass catchers at his disposal, namely Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp (knee), fellow newcomer DeSean Jackson and tight end Tyler Higbee. Through 12 NFL campaigns, the 33-year-old signal-caller has surpassed 4,000 yards eight times but only thrown for 30-plus TD on two occasions.
Feb 11, 2021
Recovering from long list of injuries
Stafford's injuries in 2020 included a partially torn UCL in his right thumb, a torn UCL in his left elbow, torn rib cartilage, an ankle sprain and a left knee injury, Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was removed after one series in the Week 16 loss to Tampa Bay, but he otherwise played at least 80 percent of offensive snaps in each of Detroit's games in 2020, continuing to gut it out long after the team was eliminated from the playoffs. The Lions have since agreed to trade Stafford to Los Angeles, where he'll team up with coach Sean McVay to lead an offense that has Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, Tyler Higbee and Cam Akers as its top returning playmakers. It isn't necessarily a better group of pass catchers than what Stafford is accustomed to work with, but the coaching and overall quality of the roster will be an upgrade compared to Detroit. Despite the long list of injuries, there hasn't been any report of Stafford needing offseason surgery.
Jan 30, 2021
Traded to Rams
Stafford was traded to the Rams for Jared Goff, two first-round draft picks and a third-round pick Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
In a blockbuster trade, the Rams sent the first overall pick from 2016 to Detroit in exchange for the first overall pick from 2009. Stafford should start immediately in Los Angeles, equipped with wide receivers Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp and a strong offensive line.
Jan 29, 2021
Rams could be in the mix
The Rams have reportedly "explored the possibilities" of potentially acquiring Stafford, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
ANALYSIS
That said, the Rams still have fellow QB Jared Goff under contract, so it's unclear how their reported interest in Stafford might play out. In any case, it looks like they've join the ranks of NFL franchises who might consider making a run at making a deal for Stafford, who's in line to mutually part ways with the Lions. With that in mind, Fowler notes that "NFL teams started reaching out to the Lions about (the veteran signal caller) earlier this week."
Jan 23, 2021
Expected to part ways with Detroit
Stafford and the Lions have mutually agreed to part ways this offseason, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford expressed his desire for a fresh start, and the Lions have agreed to grant that request. In turn, the team will look for a trade partner this offseason. Stafford was impressive once again in 2020, completing 64 percent of his passes for 4,084 yards (7.7 YPA), 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The 32-year-old is a known commodity and could command a hefty return on the trade market. He has three years remaining on his contract, and he'll carry a $33 million cap hit in 2021. The Lions still have quarterbacks Chase Daniel and David Blough under contract next season, and they hold the No. 7 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Jan 3, 2021
Throws three TDs in season finale
Stafford completed 20 of 31 passes for 293 yards with three touchdowns and one interception during Sunday's 37-35 loss to Minnesota. He added nine rushing yards on two attempts.
ANALYSIS
Toughing out ankle, rib and thumb injuries, Stafford put forth an admirable effort despite a third-quarter interception that may have been the difference in the game. He probably should have had a fourth touchdown pass, but a third-quarter bomb to Marvin Jones was overturned on review and Stafford will close the books on the 2020 season with 4,093 passing yards and 26 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. However, despite those respectable numbers plus the fact that Stafford remains under contract through 2023, it's not certain that the 32-year-old gunslinger will return to Detroit next season. With the organization in the market for both a new head coach and general manager, it's possible the Lions - who owe Stafford a $10 million bonus on the fifth day of the 2021 league year - will bring in decision makers that prefer to groom a younger option. Adding more uncertainty to Stafford's offseason is his rehab from his injuries, but the quarterback at least doesn't believe he'll need surgery to address the ligament da
Jan 3, 2021
Suiting up again Sunday
Stafford (ankle/rib/thumb) is active for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has been limping through the stretch run of yet another lost season, but despite dealing with a trio of injuries over the past month, he's only 209 yards shy of the eighth 4,000-yard campaign of his career. On the other side, Minnesota boasts the 24th-ranked pass defense (256.9 yards per game) and will be without four starters, so Stafford has a great chance to get there, assuming he makes it through the contest unscathed.
Jan 2, 2021
Remains on track for Sunday
Stafford (ankle/rib/thumb), who is listed as questionable, is expected to play Sunday against the Vikings, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 32-year-old was deemed likely to play despite being listed as questionable on the injury report Friday, and his outlook remains unchanged halfway through the weekend. The Lions and Vikings have already been eliminated from the playoff picture, but Stafford still plans to gut it out for the season finale. The veteran has been banged up for much of the 2020 campaign, but he'll have started all 16 games for the ninth time in 10 years if he's cleared to start Sunday.
Jan 1, 2021
Should be able to gut it out
Stafford (ankle/rib/thumb) appears likely to play in Sunday's game against the Vikings, Chris Burke of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was already playing through a pair of injuries when an ankle sprain knocked him out of the Week 16 loss to Tampa Bay. It seems he'll continue playing if he's physically capable, hoping to start all 16 games for a ninth time in the past 10 seasons. Listed as questionable after back-to-back limited practices, Stafford will have an excellent matchup if he does in fact play, facing a slumping Minnesota defense that has four starters ruled out for Week 17. The Lions will turn to Chase Daniel or David Blough at quarterback if Stafford is held out or doesn't finish the game.

Listed as questionable
Stafford (ankle/rib/thumb) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was a limited practice participant Thursday and Friday, hoping to make a 16th start despite the recent addition of an ankle sprain to his list of injuries. Interim coach Darrell Bevell said Thursday that he has "no doubt" Stafford will play, but for fantasy purposes it's probably best to treat the veteran QB as questionable ahead of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff. Chase Daniel and David Blough both got playing time after Stafford was knocked out of last week's 47-7 loss to the Bucs.
Dec 31, 2020
Limited in return to practice
The Lions listed Stafford (ankle/rib/thumb) as a limited participant at Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Despite interim head coach Darrell Bevell stating prior to the session that Stafford wouldn't practice for the second day in a row, the veteran quarterback was evidently able to do more Thursday than the Lions anticipated. While Stafford is likely managing considerable pain while tending to an assortment of injuries, the 32-year-old looks like he'll attempt to do everything in his power to play Sunday against the Vikings, even with little at stake for the 5-10 Lions. For what it's worth, Bevell isn't counting out Stafford, telling Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press "there's not a doubt in mind" the signal-caller will be ready to go by the weekend.
Dec 31, 2020
Idle for second straight practice
Stafford (ankle) won't participate in Thursday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After exiting early in last week's loss to the Buccaneers with a right ankle sprain, Stafford has now missed consecutive practices as the Lions prepare for Sunday's season finale versus the Vikings. Though Stafford has also battled rib and right thumb injuries in recent weeks in addition to the ankle sprain, the Lions aren't yet ruling him out from playing Sunday, despite the team having little at stake in Week 17. Backup quarterbacks Chase Daniel and David Blough will continue to take reps at practice this week to stay prepared to start in the event Stafford can't gain clearance for the finale.
Dec 30, 2020
Not practicing Wednesday
Stafford (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has indicated that he wants to play in the Lions' season finale Sunday against the Vikings, but with the team out of playoff contention, there's no reason to push the quarterback into action this weekend. With a Wednesday practice absence on tap, Stafford now has two more chances to get back on the field before Detroit's final injury report of the the season is submitted Friday.
Dec 28, 2020
Wants to play in finale
Stafford (ankle) hopes to suit up against the Vikings in Week 17, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was forced out of Saturday's loss to the Buccaneers after suffering an ankle sprain on the first drive, and he toughed out a rib-cartilage injury and a slight ligament tear in his right thumb during the Lions' previous two games. He doesn't anticipate undergoing offseason surgery to address the injury in his thumb, per Justin Rogers of The Detroit News. Stafford is set to undergo medical evaluation Wednesday before the Lions make a call on his status for Week 17, but given Detroit and Minnesota are both eliminated from playoff contention, it could make sense to simply sit the veteran signal-caller and preserve his health for 2021.
Dec 27, 2020
Ankle sprain not serious
The sprained ankle Stafford suffered early in Saturday's 47-7 loss to the Buccaneers, "doesn't appear too serious," Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, with the Lions heading into Week 17 with a 5-10 record, Rapoport suggests that sitting the veteran QB -- who was previously dealing with rib and thumb issues -- could make sense in the team's season finale versus the Vikings. Chase Daniel and David Blough both saw action in relief of Stafford on Saturday.
Dec 26, 2020
Not returning Saturday
Stafford (ankle) won't return to Saturday's contest against the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Stafford rolled his right ankle on the Lions' first drive of the game, adding to his recent injury woes. He played through a rib-cartilage injury and a slight ligament tear in his right thumb in the previous two games, but he still put up fair numbers, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes for 496 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions Weeks 14 and 15. The Lions will continue onward with Chase Daniel under center Saturday.
Dec 26, 2020
Hits locker room early
Stafford went to the locker room during the first quarter of Saturday's game against the Buccaneers, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has been dealing with rib and thumb injuries the past few weeks, and he now appears to have added another health concern to his ledger after rolling his right ankle on the Lions' first possession of the contest. While Stafford hopped his way to the locker room, Chase Daniel took over for him under center.
Dec 26, 2020
Suiting up Saturday
Stafford (rib/right thumb) is listed as active Saturday against the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's status was less up in the air than a week ago, but he still was questionable due to a rib-cartilage injury and slight ligament tear in his right thumb. Tampa Bay's defense has been vulnerable through the air, allowing the ninth-most passing yards per game (255.3) this season. However, Stafford again will be without his top wide receiver in Kenny Golladay (hip).
Dec 24, 2020
Questionable for Saturday
Stafford (rib/right thumb) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game versus the Buccaneers, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lions listed Stafford as limited on all three practice reports this week, which stemmed from the quarterback dealing with a rib-cartilage injury and a slight ligament tear in the thumb of his throwing hand. Despite the aforementioned 'questionable' tag, it'd be a shock if Stafford is unable to go this weekend. In his first contest playing through both health concerns, Stafford completed 22 of 32 passes for 252 yards and one touchdown this past Sunday at Tennessee.
Dec 23, 2020
Puts in limited practice
Stafford (rib/right thumb) was limited at Wednesday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford toughed it out Week 15, playing all but garbage time through a rib-cartilage injury and a slight ligament tear in the thumb of his throwing hand. His numbers were respectable enough -- 22-for-32 passing for 252 yards and one touchdown -- but his practice reps will continue to be managed during the stretch run of the campaign.
Dec 22, 2020
Reps capped in practice
Stafford (rib/thumb) was a listed as a limited participant in Tuesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Stafford played through a painful rib-cartilage injury in addition to a slight ligament tear to the thumb on his throwing hand in Sunday's loss to the Titans, completing 22 of his 32 throws for 252 yards and a touchdown. The quarterback isn't believed to have suffered any setbacks coming out of the contest, so he should receive the green light to play once this weekend's game against the Buccaneers arrives.
Dec 20, 2020
Throws one TD in lopsided loss
Stafford completed 22 of 32 pass attempts for 252 yards and one touchdown, adding 12 rushing yards on a pair of carries during Sunday's 46-25 loss to Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
The veteran signal-caller proved capable of overcoming rib and thumb injuries to notch his 14th start of 2020, but he was held under 255 passing yards for the seventh time this season despite a favorable matchup against the Titans. A 23:9 TD:INT is relatively efficient from Stafford, but his upside is capped by the fact that he has nine different performances of one or fewer passing TDs this season. Stafford's Week 16 opponent, Tampa Bay, conceded 356 passing yards and three passing scores to Atlanta's Matt Ryan on Sunday, providing optimism for a statistical bounceback.
Dec 20, 2020
Suiting up Week 15
Stafford (ribs/thumb) is listed as active Sunday in Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was knocked out of the Lions' Week 14 loss to the Packers with a rib cartilage injury, which contained him to one limited practice prior to this game. Friday's session and a pregame workout Sunday seemingly are enough for Detroit's medical and training staff to clear him to suit up against a Titans defense that has allowed the fourth-most passing yards per game (281.8) and most touchdowns passes (28, tied with two other teams) in 13 games this season.
Dec 20, 2020
Expects to play
Though Stafford is dealing with torn rib cartilage and a right thumb injury, he plans to play Sunday against the Titans, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing practice Wednesday and Thursday, Stafford got some limited work in Friday and it appears that he'll tough it it out Sunday. The QB's Week 15 status will be confirmed once the Lions' inactives are released prior to the team's 1:00 ET kickoff.
Dec 19, 2020
Trending towards playing Sunday
Stafford (ribs/thumb) is trending towards playing in Sunday's matchup against the Titans, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's availability at Friday's practice seemed to indicate this was a possibility, but it's still a reassuring notion nevertheless. Expect more information regarding the veteran quarterback's status to emerge well before the 1:00 p.m. ET Sunday kickoff.
Dec 18, 2020
Questionable to face Titans
Stafford (ribs/thumb) returned to practice Friday as a limited participant and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
A report Friday morning suggested Stafford would miss a third straight practice, but he apparently managed some level of activity, potentially setting up a game-time decision ahead of Sunday's 1 ET kickoff. The Lions technically can still make the playoffs, but realistically they actually have a better shot at landing a top-five pick in the 2021 Draft. In any case, Chase Daniel will get the Week 15 start if Stafford shows up on the inactive list Sunday morning.
Dec 18, 2020
Won't practice Friday
Stafford (ribs/thumb) won't participate at Friday's practice, Chris Burke of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The 32-year-old hasn't practiced this week while dealing with the rib-cartilage and thumb injuries, though that certainly doesn't rule him out for Sunday's matchup with the Titans. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Stafford is feeling better and will be traveling with the team to Tennessee, but the release of the injury report later Friday should provide a better idea of his availability for Sunday.
Dec 17, 2020
Sitting out practice again
Lions interim head coach Darrell Bevell said Stafford (rib/thumb) won't practice Thursday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford is missing his second practice in a row while he tends to a painful rib-cartilage injury, in addition to a more minor right thumb concern that he's been playing through since mid-November. Bevell noted earlier this week that Stafford doesn't necessarily need to practice in order to play Sunday against the Titans, but even in that scenario, his status would most likely come down to a game-day decision. Chase Daniel will direct the first-team offense for the second straight day, staying prepared for a potential starting assignment if Stafford doesn't receive the green light to play this weekend.
Dec 16, 2020
Looking uncertain for Week 15
Stafford (ribs/thumb), who did not practice Wednesday, said he has "no expectations" for Week 15, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford said he's taking his rib cartilage injury "day by day," and Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions intend to wait until the end of the week to make a call on his status for Sunday's game against the Titans. Interim coach Darrell Bevell noted that he's "totally comfortable" with the veteran signal-caller suiting up even if he can't get in any practice reps, but given that the 5-8 Lions are already essentially eliminated from the NFC playoff picture, it could make sense for Chase Daniel to draw a start if there's even a slight chance of Stafford aggravating his rib injury.
Dec 16, 2020
Week 15 status TBD
Stafford (ribs) won't practice Wednesday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Birkett adds that the Lions still plan to take a call on Stafford's status for Sunday's game against the Titans until the end of the week. With that in mind, interim coach Darrell Bevell noted Wednesday that he's "totally comfortable with (Stafford) not practicing and playing in the game." If Stafford isn't able to play this weekend, however, Chase Daniel would figure to start in his place.
Dec 15, 2020
Status cloudy for Week 15
Stafford has been diagnosed with a rib cartilage injury, which leaves his status cloudy for Sunday's game at Tennessee, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was removed from the Lions' Week 14 loss in the fourth quarter after getting sandwiched by two Packers defenders. Fortunately for the signal-caller, X-rays were returned negative, but the Lions aren't "optimistic" he'll be available Week 15. Stafford is notorious for playing through the pain, though, so his status -- especially at practice -- bears watching as the weekend approaches. If he's forced to miss his first game of the season Sunday, Stafford will yield QB duties to Chase Daniel.
Dec 14, 2020
Good news from X-rays
Stafford (ribs) had his X-rays come back negative Monday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lions haven't yet officially commented on Stafford's status for Week 15, but Ian Rapoport of NFL Network has reported that the veteran signal-caller's rib injury could realistically jeopardize his availability versus the Titans. That would likely lead to Chase Daniel starting under center, but it's at least encouraging that Stafford's injury doesn't appear to be a long-term issue.
Dec 14, 2020
May miss Week 15
Stafford (ribs) hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans but his status is in doubt, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was forced out of the Lions' Week 14 loss to the Packers in the fourth quarter, and Rapoport notes that his rib injury caused him significant pain. The Lions have scheduled X-rays for Stafford, and the team will no doubt evaluate him closely throughout practice this week if those results come back negative. Chase Daniel would figure to start against the Titans if Stafford can't go.
Dec 13, 2020
Needs X-rays on ribs
Interim coach Darrell Bevell said after Sunday's loss to the Packers that Stafford (ribs) will be getting X-rays on the rib injury that knocked him out of the game in the fourth quarter, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The results of the X-rays should help determine whether Stafford will be available to play against the Titans in Week 15. If Stafford's unable to suit up in that one, Chase Daniel would be in line to start under center for Detroit. The 5-8 Lions have little reason to rush their starting quarterback's return with the playoffs almost certainly out of reach.
Dec 13, 2020
Hurts ribs against Green Bay
Stafford (ribs) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Stafford went to the locker room after taking a big hit to the ribs in the fourth quarter. He quickly reemerged and tried to take some warm-up throws but didn't look comfortable, paving the way for backup Chase Daniel to enter the game. Prior to his exit, Stafford completed 24 of 34 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown.
Dec 13, 2020
Playing Sunday, per usual
Stafford (thumb) is listed as active Sunday against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Stafford's practice reps have been managed since he injured his right thumb Week 10 against Washington. Including that contest, he's completed 64.7 percent of his passes for 1,151 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions over the past four games. Stafford will aim to keep up the pace versus a Green Bay defense that has allowed 7.4 yards per attempt (11th worst) and 21 TD passes (13th most) to quarterbacks this season.
Dec 12, 2020
Likely to play Sunday
Stafford (thumb), who is listed as questionable, is expected to play Sunday versus Green Bay, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran quarterback has been playing through the right thumb injury for most of the past month, so it's hardly a surprise he's on track to take the field this weekend. Stafford remains without No. 1 wide receiver Kenny Golladay (hip) for the sixth straight contest, but the expected return of tailback D'Andre Swift (illness) should bring a boost to the offense.
Dec 11, 2020
Officially listed as questionable
Stafford (thumb) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Packers, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford played through the same injury last week, throwing for 402 yards and three touchdowns to keep the Lions alive in the wild-card race. Their schedule over the final month of the season will make it difficult to stay in the hunt, but any thought of shutting down Stafford is still a few weeks away. He should be out there Sunday, throwing passes to a receiving corps that will be missing Kenny Golladay (hip) for a sixth straight week.
Dec 10, 2020
Limited, as per usual
Stafford (thumb) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford hasn't been a stranger to limited practice reps since he first injured his right thumb nearly a month ago, but the issue isn't something that's shed any serious doubt on his availability as of late. While there's not yet any real reason to worry about Stafford gaining clearance for Sunday's game against the Packers, it's worth noting that top wideout Kenny Golladay (hip) was once again absent from practice Thursday.
Dec 9, 2020
Limited in practice
Stafford (right thumb) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lions have regularly managed Stafford's practice reps since he first injured his right thumb, but he's played through the issue in four straight contests. The veteran quarterback has even attempted 42 passes in back-to-back games, and he put up a season-best 402 yards against Chicago's secondary last weekend. Stafford will look to keep his momentum against Green Bay's 15th-ranked pass defense.
Dec 6, 2020
Leads fourth-quarter comeback
Stafford completed 27 of 42 pass attempts for 402 yards, throwing three touchdowns and one interception during Sunday's 34-30 win against the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Stafford led the 31st fourth-quarter comeback of his 12-year NFL career Sunday, spearheading a 14-0 run over the final 11 minutes of regulation to get Detroit a win in Darrell Bevell's debut as interim coach. The 32-year-old has been a hit-or-miss fantasy asset this season despite possessing four different games with three passing scores. Two of his four preceding appearances entering Week 13 consisted of one or fewer passing TDs and under 215 passing yards. Next, he'll see Green Bay's 15th-ranked pass defense, having thrown for 244 yards, two touchdowns and one pick the last time the NFC North rivals met Week 2.
Dec 6, 2020
Suiting up again Sunday
Stafford (thumb) is active for Sunday's game at Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Stafford will play through a slight ligament tear in his right thumb for a fourth consecutive contest. In the first three, he completed 65 percent of his passes for 749 yards, four touchdowns and one interception. However, Stafford still won't have his top running back or wide receiver -- D'Andre Swift (illness) and Kenny Golladay (hip) -- at his disposal.
Dec 4, 2020
Questionable for Sunday
Stafford (right thumb) is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest in Chicago, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lions capped Stafford's practice reps all week, the result of a slight ligament tear in his right thumb that he picked up during a Week 11 defeat in Carolina. Assuming he's able to gain clearance to play Sunday, he'll be facing the Bears' 11th-ranked pass defense (223.7 yards per game).
Dec 3, 2020
Limited again by thumb
Stafford (right thumb) was limited at Thursday's practice, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
The Lions continue to manage the practice reps of Stafford, who picked up a partial ligament tear in his right thumb during a Week 11 loss at Carolina. He proceeded to complete 28 of 42 passes for 295 yards, one touchdown and one interception during a loss on Thanksgiving to the Texans. While Detroit's skill positions may again be depleted Sunday in Chicago -- both Kenny Golladay (hip) and D'Andre Swift (illness) didn't practice Thursday -- Stafford already has a 297-yard, one-TD performance against the Bears this season from back in Week 1.
Dec 2, 2020
Limited to begin week again
Stafford (thumb) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice .
ANALYSIS
Stafford has regularly had his practice reps capped since suffering a right thumb injury Week 11, but he hasn't actually missed any time in that span. The veteran signal-caller had 42 pass attempts versus the Texans on Thanksgiving, so his sore thumb doesn't appear to be hampering him too significantly. Top wideout Kenny Golladay (hip) couldn't practice to begin the week, but reliable slot man Danny Amendola (hip) managed a limited session.
Nov 26, 2020
Uneven performance in loss
Stafford completed 28 of 42 passes for 295 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Thursday's 41-25 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
He also gained three rushing yards on one carry and nearly caught a TD pass from Jamal Agnew on a trick play, but Stafford couldn't maintain possession as he hit the ground at the goal line. While there were more good moments for the Detroit offense than in last week's shutout, and the QB's sore thumb didn't seem to be an issue, there were plenty of bad plays too -- Stafford tossed a pick-six to J.J. Watt, and his offensive line gave up four sacks and plenty of additional pressure. The Lions will face a tough test in Week 13 on the road against a Bears defense that's been among the best in the league in 2020.
Nov 25, 2020
Ready to face Texans
Stafford (thumb) does not have an injury designation for Thursday's game against the Texans, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford upgraded to a full practice Wednesday after beginning the week with back-to-back limited sessions. The 32-year-old played through a torn ligament in his right thumb during last weekend's loss to the Panthers, in which he threw for a season-low 178 yards and no touchdowns. Stafford will look to put his injury fully behind him versus the Texans, though he'll have to accomplish that task without both Kenny Golladay (hip) and Danny Amendola (hip).
Nov 24, 2020
Maintains limited participation
Stafford (right thumb) was a limited participant in Tuesday's walkthrough practice, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
There hasn't been any indication that Stafford is in danger of missing Thursday's game against the Texans, but his reps likely will remain limited all week. The 32-year-old played through the partial ligament tear in his right thumb last week against the Panthers and completed just 55 percent of his passes for 178 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. While his performance was clearly hindered, he draws a favorable Week 12 matchup, as the Texans have allowed 7.8 yards per pass attempt this year (sixth-most in the league).
Nov 23, 2020
Begins week with limited practice
Stafford (thumb) was a limited participant on Monday's practice estimate, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford played through a partial ligament tear in his right thumb during Sunday's loss to the Panthers. His performance was clearly hindered, as he completed just 18 of 33 passes (55 percent) for 178 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. While it was a dismal performance, there haven't been any reported setbacks to Stafford's injury. At this time, he should be ready to start in the Thanksgiving Day clash against the Texans.
Nov 22, 2020
Struggles to play through thumb injury
Stafford completed 18 of 33 passes for 178 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions during Sunday's 20-0 loss to Carolina. He also rushed four times for five yards.
ANALYSIS
Toughing out a thumb injury and playing with neither D'Andre Swift (concussion) or Kenny Golladay (hip), Stafford was unable to take advantage of an inviting matchup against a sliding Panthers defense. While his numbers would have looked better had a 51-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Jones not been flagged for an illegal offensive formation, Stafford clearly seemed to be affected by his injury and, given the offense's subsequent struggles moving the ball, it wouldn't be a surprise if Detroit gives Stafford time to heal in the coming weeks. If not, Stafford at least will have an even better matchup in Week 12 against a Texans defense that is allowing the sixth-most yards per pass attempt (7.8) in 2020.
Nov 22, 2020
Officially suiting up Sunday
Stafford (thumb) is active for Sunday's game against the Panthers, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was never cleared for full participation in practice at any point this week after he sustained a torn ligament to his right thumb in the Week 10 over Washington. That said, the Lions became increasingly optimistic about Stafford's health as the week rolled along, with multiple reports coming through indicating he was able to throw the football without any major discomfort during practices Thursday and Friday. According to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com, Stafford was still donning a protective wrap on his thumb while he worked out early Sunday, but he once again appeared to be throwing without any issues. Rather than the thumb injury, the greater concern for Stafford this week is probably his dearth of weapons in the passing game; starting wideouts Kenny Golladay (hip) and Danny Amendola (hip) and top running back D'Andre Swift (concussion) are all inactive for the contest.
Nov 21, 2020
Remains on track for Sunday
Stafford (thumb) is expected to start Sunday's game against the Panthers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan said Friday the 32-year-old should be able to play with no limitations, and it appears he's avoided any setbacks halfway through the weekend. Stafford appears intent on playing through the ligament injury to his right thumb, but he'll also have to contend with the absences of the offense's top running back D'Andre Swift (concussion) and wideouts Kenny Golladay (hip) and Danny Amendola (hip) in Carolina.
Nov 20, 2020
Listed as questionable, should play
Stafford (thumb) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Carolina, but QBs coach Sean Ryan said the veteran should be able to play without any limitations, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Multiple reports suggest Stafford is expected to play, as he's apparently able to throw a football pretty well despite having a ligament injury in his right thumb. He does face a second challenge this weekend, with RB D'Andre Swift (concussion), WR Kenny Golladay (hip) and WR Danny Amendola (hip) all being ruled out. The Lions and Panthers are scheduled for a 1:00 ET kickoff.
Nov 20, 2020
Should play Sunday
The Lions expect Stafford (thumb) to play Sunday against the Panthers, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was held out of Wednesday's practice while tending to a ligament injury in his right thumb. He then returned Thursday as a limited participant, and he apparently looked good enough to make the Lions feel confident in his availability for Sunday. Teammates D'Andre Swift (concussion), Kenny Golladay (hip) and Danny Amendola (hip) may not be as fortunate, with each of the three missing Friday's practice.
Nov 19, 2020
Practices in limited fashion
Stafford (thumb) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Tending to a sprained right thumb in the aftermath of Sunday's win over Washington, Stafford was withheld from the Lions' first Week 11 practice Wednesday. He was back on the field Thursday, however, with Kyle Meinke of MLive.com noting that the quarterback donned a supportive device to protect the torn ligament in his thumb. Meinke notes that though Stafford only threw about nine light passes during the open portion of the practice, the Lions remain optimistic that he'll be able to tough it out and play Sunday against the Panthers. Even if that's the case, Stafford could find himself without two of his top weapons, as running back D'Andre Swift (concussion) and Kenny Golladay (hip) failed to take part in Thursday's practice.
Nov 18, 2020
Sits out practice Wednesday
Stafford (thumb) did not practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The Lions are optimistic that Stafford will be able to play through a partial tear in a ligament in his right thumb without missing time, but he'll likely need to practice prior to Sunday's game in Carolina in order to suit up. The 32-year-old will have two more practice opportunities to prove that he's not at significant risk of exacerbating his injury and that his throwing ability is unhindered.
Nov 17, 2020
Expected to play through injury
Stafford suffered a partial tear in a ligament in his right thumb, but he's expected to play in this Sunday's game versus the Panthers, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford picked up this injury during last week's win over Washington, and he finished the game without missing a snap. He'll likely be closely monitored during the practice week to see if the injury hinders his throwing ability, but the Lions are entering Week 11 under the assumption that Stafford will start under center. If Stafford's health takes a turn during the practice week, however, Chase Daniel is the next man up at quarterback.
Nov 16, 2020
Looks ok but needs more tests
The Lions are optimistic Stafford's thumb injury isn't serious, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After X-rays came back negative, he'll have more tests Monday to make sure there's no structural damage. The Lions don't expect him to miss any games, but it's possible the outlook changes if the tests reveal something significant. Stafford was sharp in Sunday's 30-27 win over Washington, completing 24 of 33 passes for 276 yards. Next up is a road matchup with the Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
Nov 15, 2020
Suffers potential thumb injury
Stafford completed 24 of 33 passes for 276 yards and three touchdowns during Sunday's 30-27 win against Washington. Afterward, he said he'll undergo X-rays on his right thumb, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford had three completions of at least 25 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown to Marvin Hall and a 27-yard TD to Marvin Jones to account for the Lions' first two scores. He's surpassed 300 yards through the air in just two of nine games this season, but Sunday's outing marked his third of the season without a pick. Stafford's postgame comments indicate he may be dealing with a health concern, as he told Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit that his right hand "didn't fell so hot" when he attempted to grip the ball at one point. Consequently, Stafford's status will be one to watch in the coming days.
Nov 11, 2020
Practicing without limitations
Stafford (neck) is listed as a full participant on Wednesday's injury report.
ANALYSIS
Stafford, who was forced out of Sunday's loss to the Vikings in the fourth quarter, is listed with a neck injury on Wednesday's practice report, but it doesn't appear that his Week 10 availability is in any jeopardy. However, with Kenny Golladay (hip) still not practicing, Stafford could realistically once again be without his top target versus the Football Team.
Nov 8, 2020
Avoids concussion
Stafford was cleared for a concussion following Sunday's 34-20 loss at Minnesota, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
On a fourth-quarter sack, Stafford's head hit the leg of a Vikings defender, and an official immediately directed him to the sideline, where he was evaluated in the blue tent before going to the locker room. Fortunately for Stafford, he's avoided a sour end to his ordeal from this week, in which he had another false COVID-19 positive and just barely got through the league-mandated protocols in order to play Week 9. Before his departure, he only managed 23-for-32 passing for 211 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. His next challenge comes next Sunday against the Washington Football Team.

Being examined for concussion
Stafford was evaluated in the sideline tent before going to the locker after his head hit the leg of a Vikings defender during Sunday's game at Minnesota, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was sacked on the play, and afterward officials directed him to sideline to undergo testing. After his departure, the Lions confirmed that he's being examined for a concussion, which would placed him in the protocol for head injuries if he's diagnosed with one. If he's unable to reenter the contest, Stafford will end Week 19 having completed 23 of 32 passes for 211 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Cleared to start Week 9
Stafford will start Sunday's game against the Vikings after testing negative for COVID-19 earlier in the day, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday after coming into contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus, resulting him in missing the Lions' entire week of practices. The quarterback has continued to test negative since landing on the list, and he was still able to participate in virtual meetings with the Lions this week even though he wasn't at the practice facility. After being activated from the list Saturday and flying separate from the team to Minneapolis, Stafford is now able to rejoin the team after testing negative one final time. The lack of on-field prep time leading up to Sunday's game is less than ideal for Stafford, but he should make for a serviceable fantasy option while facing off against a suspect Minnesota pass defense that's missing three of its top four cornerbacks (Cameron Dantzler, Holton Hill and Mike Hughes).

Awaiting final clearance
Stafford must pass a final round of COVID-19 testing before being cleared to play Sunday at Minnesota, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 32-year-old was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier in the day after landing on the list earlier in the week, but he's still awaiting full clearance to play Week 9. Stafford landed on the COVID-19 list earlier in the week, but a negative test result Sunday morning would allow him to return without missing a game. Chase Daniel lines up to start for the Lions in the off chance Stafford is unavailable for the divisional matchup.
Nov 7, 2020
Comes off reserve/COVID-19 list
Stafford was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday.
ANALYSIS
It's worth reiterating Stafford still must pass one more round of tests to be able to play Sunday, but all signs seem to be pointing in a positive direction. Expect results regarding the final COVID-19 test to come sometime Sunday morning which could potentially make the veteran quarterback eligible to start in the divisional matchup against the Vikings.
Nov 5, 2020
COVID negative, could play Week 9
Stafford's wife, Kelly, said Thursday in a story on her personal Instagram account that the quarterback and the rest of his family has remained COVID-19 negative through two rounds of testing.
ANALYSIS
The Lions placed Stafford on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, but his wife's comments indicate that the quarterback didn't test positive for the coronavirus and was instead deemed a high-risk contact of someone who did. Because he was placed on the list, Stafford still won't be eligible for activation until Sunday, assuming he continues to test negative in each of the upcoming days. That theoretically leaves the door open for Stafford to start Sunday's game in Minnesota, in which case the Lions would have to arrange private travel for him. Additionally, since Stafford is only able to take part in virtual meetings this week rather than appearing in practice, fantasy managers may justifiably have some reservations about using him, despite a favorable matchup versus one of the NFL's worst pass defenses. Chase Daniel would draw the Week 9 start if the Lions elect to delay Stafford's activation until after Sunday.
Nov 4, 2020
Could play Sunday
Stafford was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday because he is considered a "high-risk, close contact," so he could be eligible to play against the Vikings on Sunday if he remains asymptomatic and tests negative, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford will need to test negative for five consecutive days while remaining asymptomatic for any chance of suiting up Week 9. His last contact with an infected individual came Monday, so though Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that Stafford will have to miss at least one game, it appears as though he could have just enough time to gain clearance in a best-case scenario. If Stafford can't go, Chase Daniel would be the likely favorite to start in Minnesota.
Nov 4, 2020
Placed on COVID-19 list
The Lions placed Stafford (illness) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The transaction indicates that Stafford has either tested positive for COVID-19 or come into close proximity with someone who has. The veteran starter's absence at practice Wednesday leaves Chase Daniel and David Blough in position to split reps at quarterback, and Daniel would likely be the favorite to suit up under center in Minnesota on Sunday if Stafford is forced to miss time.
Nov 4, 2020
Absent from practice
Stafford isn't present for Wednesday's practice, Chris Burke of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford has played every offensive snap for Detroit this season, and he hasn't been listed on the injury report at any point. It sounds like that could change Wednesday afternoon, though it's also possible he was excused from practice for non-injury reasons. Whatever the case, Chase Daniel and David Blough are splitting QB reps during Wednesday's practice.

Stifled by Colts
Stafford completed 24 of 42 passes for 336 yards, three touchdowns and one interception during Sunday's 41-21 loss to Indianapolis. He also rushed once for 10 yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Failing to overcome a stagnant running game against a tough Colts defense, Stafford came through in the stat sheet but he did not have a good game in reality. The veteran seemingly missed a number of completable passes and his two turnovers - a fumble and a pick-six - prevented Detroit from getting out of an early hole. Fortunately for the entire Lions offense, Week 9 brings a get-right matchup against a porous Minnesota defense that allowed the third-most yards per pass attempt leaguewide (8.5) before suffering numerous injuries in the secondary during Sunday's game against Green Bay.
Oct 25, 2020
Breaks 300 passing yards in win
Stafford went 25-for-36 passing with 340 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions during Sunday's 23-22 win against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Stafford had committed an interception in consecutive outings entering Sunday's matchup, but he cleaned up his act by gifting zero giveaways to Atlanta in Week 7. Stafford's passing total towered over his preexisting season average of 248 passing yards per game, though he was held to just one passing TD for the third time in six starts. Stafford's Week 8 opponent, Indianapolis, entered Sunday allowing the second-fewest passing TDs in the NFL with seven.
Oct 18, 2020
Manages Lions to victory
Stafford completed 19 of 31 pass attempts for 223 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 6 against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Stafford led the team to touchdowns on each of their first two drives of the game, though both were capped by rushing scores. From there, the Lions were in control of the contest, limiting the need for him to air the ball out. Even so, he displayed a strong connection with Kenny Golladay for long gains of 48, 36 and 16 yards, while also finding T.J. Hockenson for a one-yard touchdown toss. Detroit will take on Atlanta in Week 7, which could turn into a shootout that will be more conducive to Stafford posting gaudy numbers.
Oct 4, 2020
Three TDs not enough
Stafford completed 17 of 31 passes for 206 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 35-29 loss to New Orleans. He also threw a two-point conversion and added three carries for 21 yards.
ANALYSIS
Stafford tossed a seven-yard touchdown to D'Andre Swift followed by a 15-yard score to Kenny Golladay to grab an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but he threw a red-zone interception in the end zone after New Orleans came back to tie the game at 14 apiece, and it was 28-14 Saints by halftime. The veteran quarterback bounced back with a one-yard touchdown to T.J. Hockenson in the third quarter, and he found Hockenson for a two-point conversion after Adrian Peterson's fourth-quarter rushing touchdown to pull within six points, but New Orleans was able to run out the final 3:40 to seal the win. In what has been a familiar theme throughout the course of his career, Stafford ultimately didn't get enough help from his defense or running game, as the Saints dominated time of possession. Detroit will have a bye in Week 5 before a week 6 trip to Jacksonville.
Oct 2, 2020
Facing banged-up defense
Stafford has a Week 4 matchup against a Saints defense that will be missing three starters, including cornerbacks Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) and Janoris Jenkins (shoulder), Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Detroit offense, on the other hand, is in pretty good shape, with LG Joe Dahl (IR - groin) the only missing starter. Stafford had his best game of the young season in last week's 26-23 win over the Cardinals, and he's in good position for another multi-TD effort in a home matchup with the injury-marred Saints.
Sep 27, 2020
Throws two touchdown passes in win
Stafford completed 22 of 31 pass attempts for 270 yards and two touchdowns during Sunday's 26-23 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Stafford completed 71 percent of his passes while spreading the ball around to nine different receivers. He threw touchdown passes to Kenny Golladay and Jesse James while avoiding a turnover for the first time this season. Stafford's average of 8.7 yards per attempt was also his best of the season and is likely a direct result of Golladay making his season debut. Better things could be in store for Stafford and the Detroit offense, starting with next Sunday's matchup with the Saints.
Sep 20, 2020
Slows down after hot start
Stafford completed 20 of 33 passes for 244 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 42-21 loss to the Packers. He added one carry for four yards,
ANALYSIS
Stafford's four-yard touchdown to Marvin Jones put Detroit up 14-3 late in the first quarter, but it was all Packers from there. Green Bay's subsequent 31-0 run included a pick-six that Stafford threw from his own end zone, but the veteran quarterback finally halted the Packers' scoring streak with a 24-yard touchdown to Marvin Hall early in the fourth quarter. Stafford will bring a 3:2 TD:INT into a Week 3 trip to Arizona.
Sep 13, 2020
Plays well given circumstances
Stafford completed 24 of 42 passes for 297 yards, one touchdown, and one interception during Sunday's 27-23 loss to Chicago. He added 23 rushing yards on five carries.
ANALYSIS
Playing without top receiver Kenny Golladay (hamstring) and one of his best linemen in Halapoulivaati Vaitai (foot), Stafford should have had another passing touchdown considering rookie running back D'Andre Swift dropped a potential game-winning touchdown in the closing seconds. However, outside of throwing a pick in the fourth quarter on a forced pass to his acting No. 1 wideout, Marvin Jones, Stafford generally played well against a tough Bears defensive front. The blame for the loss most reasonably lies upon the shoulders of the backup cornerbacks the Lions relied upon once their top three options were out. If each of Desmond Trufant (hamstring), Justin Coleman (hamstring), and Jeff Okudah (hamstring) are unable to play in Week 2, the Lions defense could struggle to defend Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, which could lead to an even heavier workload for Stafford and the rest of the Detroit passing game.
Aug 4, 2020
Activated by team
Stafford has been activated off the Lions' reserve/COVID-19 list, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Meinke, Stafford's recent COVID-19 test was a false positive. The Lions' starting QB is therefore available to take the field with his teammates once practices start up.
Aug 1, 2020
Placed on COVID-19 list
Stafford was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Stafford joins a number of other big-name Lions players who were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list over the past week. The designation means either Stafford tested positive or was in close proximity to someone who texted positive for COVID-19, so until more information is provided, speculation regarding the return time frame is baseless.

Indicates he's fully healthy
Stafford relayed Thursday that he has fully recovered from the back and hip issues that plagued him in 2019, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
General manager Bob Quinn indicated in mid-April that Stafford would have been a full participant had the Lions begun their offseason program at that time, so it's not exactly a shock that Stafford is doing well. He's also been working with a number of his young pass-catchers recently, which could pay dividends given the potential for a truncated offseason. He finished 2019 with a 19:5 TD:INT ratio and 2,499 passing yards over eight games, which would have put him on pace to near career-high tallies in both passing yards (5,038) and touchdown passes (41). He returns most of his pass-catching weapons from a season ago and added a trio of rookie draft picks to the mix in D'Andre Swift, Quintez Cephus and Jason Huntley.

Healthy enough to practice
General manager Bob Quinn said Stafford (back/hip) would be a full participant if the Lions were able to start their offseason program next week, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Technically, the Lions will start their program April 27, but it will all be virtual work for the foreseeable future. The unusual offseason is arguably less of a problem for the Lions that it will be for many other teams, considering Stafford, offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and all the key wide receivers and tight ends are holdovers from the 2019 squad. Stafford missed the final eight games of last season due to multiple small fractures in his back, eventually making a full recovery this winter/spring without undergoing surgery. He also had a lingering hip injury, which wasn't deemed serious enough to require a medical procedure.
Feb 25, 2020
Should be ready for OTAs
General manager Bob Quinn said Stafford (back) is healthy and the quarterback will be full go for the start of the offseason training program, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Quinn also reiterated that Stafford is not on the trade block while adding that he still considers the 32-year-old signal caller to be in his prime. Considering Stafford was at least top-five in the league in terms of passing touchdowns, passing yards, passer rating and 20-plus-yard completions when he injured his back in Week 9, that isn't a stretch for Quinn to say. Last year the offseason training program started April 15.
Feb 13, 2020
Not being shopped
General manager Bob Quinn said rumors about the Lions shopping Stafford (back/hip) are "100 percent false," Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The rumors mostly suggest Detroit would trade Stafford and then select a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in April's draft. It sounds like a reasonable strategy in a vacuum, but Stafford's contract would force the team to absorb $32 million in dead money in the event of a trade or release, compared to a $21.3 million cap hit in 2020 if he stays with the team, per NFL.com's Kevin Patra. A trade would be a concession to an all-out rebuild, which wouldn't jibe with the Lions' aggressive approach to the 2019 offseason, nor would it align with the personal interests of Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia. The team's leadership presumably intends to build a stronger roster around Stafford, perhaps reassessing next offseason if it doesn't work out well in 2020. The 32-year-old quarterback said he'll be healthy before spring practices begin.

Not believed to have long-term injury
While it's unlikely Stafford (back/hip) will play again in 2019, his fractured back is healing "as it should" and the injury is not a long-term concern, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. "It's something that was kind of a freak deal that happened and obviously got to take it in stride and listen to the doctors, my body, coaches, everybody, kind of figure out what's best," Stafford said Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Matt Patricia said earlier this week that Stafford hasn't been placed on injured reserve "out of respect for Matthew and his competitiveness," but it seems unlikely the franchise QB will return to action this season given Stafford's history with back injuries and the fact the Lions have already fallen out of playoff contention. David Blough therefore seems likely to continue on as Detroit's interim signal caller and it will be hard to trust any of the Lions skill players to consistently produce down the stretch.
Nov 27, 2019
Ruled out again
Stafford (back) is ruled out for Thursday's tilt against the Bears.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Stafford will miss Thursday's divisional contest after missing three straight practices this week. The Lions have discussed shutting down the veteran signal-caller for the season as he deals with multiple fractures in his back, but the team has yet to make a final decision. With Jeff Driskel (hamstring) listed as questionable, Detroit could be forced to call upon No. 3 quarterback David Blough to face the Bears on Thanksgiving Day.
Nov 25, 2019
Unlikely to play Thanksgiving Day
Stafford (back) is considered unlikely to play in the Lions' Thanksgiving Day game against the Bears, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite sitting out for a third straight game in the Lions' Week 12 loss to the Redskins, Stafford hasn't thrown in the towel on 2019 even as the Lions have discussed shutting down the quarterback for the season. While he continues to battle multiple fractures in his back, Stafford has reportedly been "maniacal" about playing again, even though doing so could expose him to chronic problems in the years to come. Given that he hasn't resumed practicing since being diagnosed with the injury, Stafford has little chance of playing Thursday, but the Lions are likely to continue taking a week-to-week approach with the veteran signal-caller. Jeff Driskel will remain the team's starter under center until Stafford gets clearance to play again.
Nov 20, 2019
Intends to play again this season
Stafford (back) expects to suit up again this season, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. "Whenever we all deem it's the right time for me to get back out there, I'll be out there," Stafford said Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Stafford hasn't made his presence felt on the practice field since X-rays revealed multiple fractures in his back on Friday, Nov. 4. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported last week that Stafford is dealing with a six-week injury, but by the quarterback's own words, he intends to return to action once the team determine he's ready to do so. As long as Stafford is sidelined, though, the Lions will operate with Jeff Driskel under center.
Nov 20, 2019
Sidelined at practice Wednesday
Stafford (back) did not practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Stafford is considered week-to-week due to fractured bones in his back, and he appears on track to remain sidelined for a third straight contest Week 12. The veteran signal-caller is nursing a six-week injury, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.com, though he won't necessarily need to sit out for that entire length of time. In any case, Jeff Driskel is expected to continue suiting up under center as long as Stafford is unable to go.
Nov 17, 2019
Has six-week injury
The fractured bones in Stafford's back may be a six-week injury, Adam Schefter reports.
ANALYSIS
That's not to say Stafford will sit out Sunday, plus the Lions' next four games, to reach the aforementioned threshold. Instead, he appears to be dealing with a fairly severe health concern. His return timetable has been unclear since the team discovered the broken bones in his back one day prior to his absence Week 10 at Chicago, ending his starting streak at 136 games. As long as Stafford is sidelined, Jeff Driskel will direct Detroit's offense.
Nov 15, 2019
Out for at least one more game
Coach Matt Patricia confirmed Stafford (back) will not be ready to play Sunday against the Cowboys, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. "Not this Sunday, no," Patricia said.
ANALYSIS
Patricia did say the team has a medical plan in place for Stafford to return, with the quarterback potentially getting back on the practice field later this month. That doesn't sound overly promising for Week 12, and Week 13 might also be a challenge with the Lions working on a short schedule for Thanksgiving. That said, it's too early for any assumptions beyond the upcoming Sunday, when Jeff Driskel will get another start under center. The 26-year-old completed 27 of 46 passes for 269 yards, one touchdown and one interception in last week's 20-13 loss to the Bears, adding five carries for 37 yards.
Nov 15, 2019
Unlikely to play Sunday
Head coach Matt Patricia does not anticipate Stafford (back) will play Sunday against the Cowboys, Tori Petry of the Lions' website reports.
ANALYSIS
It was reported last weekend that Stafford would likely miss several games, and it appears that recovery timeline remains accurate. The Lions will reveal whether or not Stafford has any chance to play when they release their final injury report of the week, but it's looking like Jeff Driskel will be back under center for Detroit in Week 11.
Nov 13, 2019
Held out of practice Wednesday
Stafford (back) didn't practice Wednesday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his surprise absence this past Sunday at Chicago, Stafford practiced in a limited capacity. Upon further examination of his back injury, though, multiple fractures were discovered, and he eventually was ruled out. After the contest, coach Matt Patricia said he considers Stafford "day by day, week by week," per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. If Wednesday's session is any indication -- Stafford didn't do much beyond some light throwing on the side -- he seems to be more on the week-to-week side of the equation. Another absence from Stafford on Sunday against the Cowboys would thrust Jeff Driskel into a starting spot yet again.
Nov 11, 2019
Uncertain moving forward
Coach Matt Patricia said he considers Stafford (back) "day by day, week by week," going forward, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
A limited practice participant throughout last week, Stafford was planning to play in Sunday's eventual 20-13 loss to the Bears, but coach Matt Patricia made the quarterback inactive after team doctors explained the risks of playing. Patricia said the decision was made Sunday morning, while a few players on the team claim they found out Saturday. Whatever the case, Stafford seems to be in danger of missing additional time while he recovers from multiple back fractures, starting with a Week 11 home game against the Cowboys. Replacement starter Jeff Driskel completed 27 of 46 passes for 269 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Week 10 loss to Chicago.
Nov 10, 2019
Officially inactive Week 10
Stafford (back) is officially inactive for Sunday's Week 10 tilt against the Bears.
ANALYSIS
This merely confirms the fast developing news over the weekend that Stafford is dealing with multiple fractures in his back and could well miss multiple games. All of the Lions' skill-position players naturally will see a notable downgrade in their respective fantasy outlooks with Jeff Driskel taking over under center for Detroit.
Nov 10, 2019
Not expected to play Sunday
Stafford (back) is not expected to play Sunday against the Bears, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With that, Stafford's streak of 136 straight starts is set to come to a halt, which means that Jeff Driskel is slated to start at QB for the Lions on Sunday.
Nov 10, 2019
Game-time decision
Stafford (back) hopes to play Sunday against the Bears, but Adam Schefter of ESPN suggests that the QB "is being told by some not to play" in the contest.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, a decision on Stafford's Week 10 status isn't likely to arrive until pre-game warmups in advance of Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff. If he's unable to go, Jeff Driskel would be in line for the start at QB for the Lions, with David Blough in reserve.
Nov 6, 2019
Nursing new back injury
Stafford (hip/back) said Wednesday that his current back injury is not related to the issue he played through in 2018, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was noticeably hobbled during the later stages of the 2018 season as he played through broken bones in his back. His success as a passer dipped notably during that stretch, as he finished a full season with under 4,000 passing yards for the first time in his career. The 31-year-old is on fire through eight contests this season, averaging 312 passing yards per game with a 19:5 TD:INT ratio, so the Lions and fantasy managers alike will hope that Stafford's current back injury won't impact his play to the extent his previous one did.
Sep 27, 2019
Should be fine to play
Stafford's hip injury isn't expected to impact his availability for Sunday's game against Kansas City, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was added to the practice report Friday as a limited participant, with the Lions listing him as questionable for Week 4. It sounds like he'll be fine to make his 132nd consecutive start, facing a KC defense that's come to life since its sketchy Week 1 showing in Jacksonville. The Chiefs have limited opposing QBs to 7.1 yards per pass attempt this season, albeit with the 12th-most fantasy points per game on the basis of volume (38.0 attempts) as well as an 8-46-1 rushing line from Lamar Jackson.
Sep 27, 2019
Dealing with hip injury
Stafford was added to the injury report Friday with a hip issue, and he's listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Kansas City, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports that Stafford appeared to be moving around fine after Friday's practice and didn't mention anything about an injury. The 31-year-old has made 131 consecutive starts, but fantasy owners will nonetheless want to check back in before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Aug 19, 2019
Insists he's healthy
Stafford said his back injury from last year isn't a lingering issue, Justin Rogers of The Detroit News reports.
ANALYSIS
MLive.com's Kyle Meinke suggests there may be something going on with Stafford, who has been rested for a few practices and held out for the first two weeks of the preseason. The 31-year-old quarterback insists he's healthy, noting that the back injury he played through last year didn't even require offseason surgery. A strong showing in Friday's preseason game against Buffalo could put the matter to rest.
