Mike Gesicki Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Bengals vs Bills game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 29, 2025
Diminished playing time
Gesicki had two catches for 19 yards on four targets in Thursday night's win over the Ravens. He played only 23 offensive snaps (29 percent), down from 28 the week before against New England.
ANALYSIS
While the game flow was considerably different than against the Pats, there was still plenty of passing volume to go around, with Joe Burrow throwing 46 passes. Gesicki has yet to score in the eight games in which he's played this year.
Nov 23, 2025
Four catches in return
Gesicki caught four of six targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 26-20 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Making his return from a four-game absence due to a pectoral strain, Gesicki paced Cincinnati tight ends in volume, as Noah Fant, Tanner Hudson and Drew Sample each had just one catch and none topped nine yards. The Bengals' passing game could look very different in Week 13 if Joe Burrow (toe) is ready to return, but with Tee Higgins (concussion) potentially unavailable, there could be targets available once again for Gesicki in a Thanksgiving clash with the Ravens. Through seven appearances this season, he's managed a 12-96-0 line on 22 targets.
Nov 21, 2025
Comes off IR
The Bengals activated Gesicki (pectoral) from injured reserve Friday.
ANALYSIS
Since injuring his pectoral Week 6 at Green Bay, Gesicki has missed the requisite four games on IR, and his ability to practice in full Wednesday and Thursday was enough for Cincinnati to bring him back to the active roster ahead of the weekend. He thus will be among the top TE options along with Noah Fant for whoever is helming the offense Sunday against the Patriots. Those options include Joe Burrow (toe, IR) and Joe Flacco (right shoulder).
Nov 19, 2025
Full participant in return
Gesicki (pectoral) was a full participant in practice Wednesday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Bengals opened Gesicki's practice window Wednesday, with full participation suggesting he has a chance to be activated from injured reserve before Sunday's game against New England. The Bengals have used a committee at tight end all season, but there may not be room for Tanner Hudson once Gesicki is ready to play.
Nov 19, 2025
Practice window opens
The Bengals announced Wednesday that Gesicki (pectoral) has been designated to return from IR.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki will now kick off a 21-day window wherein he can practice without counting against the active roster. He can be added to the 53-man roster at any point in that span, making him tentatively eligible to retake the field as early as Sunday's game against the Patriots, health pending. Once fully healthy, Gesicki is expected to reclaim the No. 1 tight end role in Cincinnati from Noah Fant.
Nov 12, 2025
Recovery progress encouraging
Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Wednesday that the team has seen "encouraging" recovery progress from Gesicki (pectoral), Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki remains on IR and isn't eligible to return in time for Sunday's game against the Steelers, though he could have his 21-day practice window opened in advance of Cincinnati's contest against the Patriots in Week 12. It's possible, however, that Gesicki could require more time to get healthy. Noah Fant has handled an expanded role in the receiving game in Gesicki's absence, and he will continue to do so for at least one more week.
Oct 15, 2025
Lands on IR
The Bengals placed Gesicki (pectoral) on injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki will be forced to miss at least four games due to a pectoral injury sustained during the Bengals' loss to the Packers on Sunday. Since Bengals have a Week 10 bye, Gesicki's first chance to return to action will arrive Week 12 against the Patriots on Nov. 23. With Gesicki sidelined, Noah Fant is expected to step up as the No. 1 tight end for Cincinnati, beginning with Thursday's game versus the Steelers. Reserve tight end Tanner Hudson (concussion) also may benefit from increased receiving opportunities, though he looks uncertain to be available Thursday.
Oct 13, 2025
Expected to miss some time
Coach Zac Taylor said Monday that Gesicki (pectoral) will be out for "a while" after being injured in Sunday's loss to the Packers, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The team is gathering more information on the extent of Gesicki's injury, but it certainly sounds like he's going to miss multiple games. He's already been ruled out for Week 7 against the Steelers on Thursday night. Gesicki played just two offensive snaps against the Packers before he was injured on the Bengals' opening drive. Tanner Hudson filled in as the primary receiving tight end, securing four of five targets for 10 yards and one touchdown, but Hudson is now in the league's concussion protocol. If both Gesicki and Hudson can't play Thursday, Noah Fant, Drew Sample and Cam Grandy would likely handle tight-end duties.
Oct 12, 2025
Won't return Sunday
Gesicki won't return to Sunday's game against the Packers after suffering a left pectoral injury.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit from the game, Gesicki didn't record a catch. In his absence, Noah Fant, Drew Sample and Tanner Hudson will handle the Bengals' tight end duties versus Green Bay. Gesicki's next chance to see game action will occur Thursday night against the Steelers.
Oct 7, 2025
Another quiet game
Gesicki had two catches for 15 yards on five targets in Sunday's loss to the Lions. For the season, Gesicki has eight catches for a meager 61 yards and zero touchdowns.
ANALYSIS
After turning in a big season in 2024 (65 catches, 665 yards, albeit with just two touchdowns), Gesicki hasn't gotten untracked in five games this season. The addition of Noah Fant has cut into Gesicki's workload, plus the Bengals can't get untracked offensively. Perhaps his contract would have been better spent on a bona fide right guard instead?
Oct 1, 2025
Targeted once
Gesicki caught his lone target for eight yards in Monday's 28-3 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki led all Bengals tight ends in offensive snaps (27), playing ahead of teammates Drew Sample (22), Cam Grandy (4) and Tanner Hudson (1). The veteran tight end's increase in playing time came with teammate Noah Fant sidelined with a concussion. Through four games, the veteran tight end has recorded just six receptions for 46 scoreless yards. It remains to be seen whether or not Fant will return to action for Cincinnati's next game, but Gesicki should be avoided for fantasy purposes either way as the Bengals offense continues to struggle. The Bengals are set to host the Lions in Week 5.
Sep 14, 2025
Falls short of productive game
Gesicki has three catches for just 18 yards in Sunday's win over the Jaguars. He was tackled inside the one-yard line on the Bengals' final drive.
ANALYSIS
The addition of Noah Fant has cut into Gesicki's production, as has the emergence of other red zone targets like Mitchell Tinsley, who scored on his one target on Sunday.
Sep 10, 2025
One grab in win
Gesicki caught one of three targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 17-16 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki's quiet start to the season was overshadowed by teammate Noah Fant, as the latter finished the contest with four catches on five targets for 26 yards and a touchdown. The veteran tight end played just 16 of Cincinnati's 52 offensive snaps, behind both Fant (26) and Drew Sample (36). Gesicki should continue to see limited opportunities in the Bengals' passing attack, all but removing him completely from fantasy consideration going forward. The 29-year-old will have his next opportunity to get involved when the Bengals host the Jaguars in Week 2.
Sep 3, 2025
No longer dealing with injury
Gesicki (hamstring) is not listed on Wednesday's injury report, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki missed much of August due to a hamstring injury, which gave Noah Fant an opportunity to handle expanded first-team reps at tight end, but he's back to full health ahead of Sunday's regular-season opener on the road against Cleveland. With premier target hogs Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins atop the wide receiver depth chart, and backfield mates Chase Brown and Samaje Perine both boasting a three-down skillset, Gesicki has a difficult path to earning consistent target volume on a weekly basis, especially with Fant now offering competition. He is still, however, the favorite to lead the Bengals' tight end position in targets after having inked a three-year, $25.5 million extension with the team this offseason.
Aug 20, 2025
Should return soon
Gesicki (hamstring) is nearing a return and might be able to play if the Bengals had a regular-season game coming up this weekend, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki presumably will be held out of the preseason finale, but it sounds like he'll return to practice with plenty of time to gear up for a Week 1 game at Cleveland. While recent addition Noah Fant is a threat to take some of the snaps that he handled last season, Gesicki remains a clear favorite to lead Cincinnati's tight ends in routes and targets, having signed a three-year, $25.5 million contract in March (after catching 65 passes last season).
Aug 16, 2025
Ruled out for second preseason game
Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Monday that Gesicki (hamstring) is ruled out for Monday's preseason game against the Commanders, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki continues to miss practice due to a lingering hamstring injury, and he'll now be forced to sit out a second consecutive preseason game. His final chance to log exhibition action will come Saturday, Aug. 23 versus the Colts. With Gesicki out Monday, recent free-agency signee Noah Fant seems set to start at tight end in what will be his 2025 preseason debut.
Aug 13, 2025
Still absent from practice
Gesicki (hamstring) is present at Wednesday's practice but rehabbing on the side field, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki has missed over a week of practice, as well as Cincinnati's preseason opener against the Eagles, due to a hamstring injury sustained during practice on Saturday, Aug. 2. It remains to be seen whether the athletic tight end will be cleared in time to retake the field for Monday's upcoming preseason matchup against the Commanders. Recent tight end arrival Noah Fant also sat out versus Philadelphia, as he wasn't up to speed with the playbook, but he figures to have benefited from increased first-team reps with Gesicki sidelined.
Aug 5, 2025
Dealing with hamstring injury?
Gesicki (undisclosed) won't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bengals coach Zac Taylor is playing his starters Thursday, but he mentioned Gesicki as an exception due to injury. James Rapien of SI.com reported Saturday that Gesicki appeared to injure his hamstring or upper leg on a long reception during an intrasquad scrimmage. The tight end came out of the scrimmage after the big play and seems to have been absent from team drills ever since, potentially giving recent signing Noah Fant a chance to take more reps with the first-team offense.
Aug 1, 2025
Competing with Fant now
The Bengals have signed Noah Fant to join Gesicki at tight end, Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The new addition warrants at least a slight reduction in Gesicki's playing-time and target projections, although the Bengals may end up mostly using Fant in multi-TE sets. The former Bronco and Seahawk is signing a one-year, after the Bengals gave Gesicki a three-year, $25.5 million deal this offseason. Both are catch-first tight ends, although Gesicki arguably more so, aligning in the slot or out wide more often that he's tight to the formation. Fant could now take some of the single-TE-formation snaps (and routes/targets) that might otherwise have gone to Gesicki.
Mar 8, 2025
Three-year extension with Cincy
The Bengals signed Gesicki to a three-year, $25.5 million extension Saturday, Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki joined the Bengals on a one-year, $2.5 million contract in March of 2024 after spending the 2023 season with the Patriots and the first five years of his NFL career with the Dolphins. After logging 61 catches in the two seasons prior to 2024, Gesicki had a nice bounce-back campaign in Cincinnati where he registered 65 catches (on 83 targets) for 665 yards and two touchdowns across 17 regular-season games. Gesicki had six games in which he tallied at least 50 receiving yards, and the 2018 second-round pick out of Penn State will continue to serve as Joe Burrow's security blanket in the passing game.
Jan 4, 2025
Steps up in short-handed attack
Gesicki secured eight of 10 targets for 68 yards in the Bengals' 19-17 win over the Steelers on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki finished second in receptions, receiving yards and targets behind Ja'Marr Chase, as Tee Higgins' early exit due to an ankle injury helped boost the veteran tight end's involvement. Gesicki finished the regular season with a combined 18-154 line on 22 targets over the last two games, and his final 65-665-2 tally across 17 regular-season games featured his best catch and yardage totals since his 2021 season with Dolphins. If the Bengals are able to squeak into the postseason with a Broncos loss and Dolphins loss or tie Sunday, Gesicki figures to remain a solid complementary component of the air attack irrespective of Higgins' availability.
Dec 28, 2024
Involvement spikes
Gesicki recorded 10 receptions on 12 targets for 86 yards in Saturday's 30-24 overtime win against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Ja'Marr Chase drew most of Denver's defensive attention, and Gesicki took advantage by matching career highs in both targets and receptions. He was limited primarily to short gains, but he recorded key receptions of 10 and 12 yards in overtime -- the latter of which helped set up a potential game-winning field goal. While it was a solid performance, Gesicki had failed to top five targets in five straight games entering Saturday's contest.
Dec 25, 2024
Two grabs in Week 16
Gesicki caught both of his targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 24-6 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki could not get much going against the Browns, as he was limited to playing just 34 percent of the Bengals' offensive snaps while fellow tight end Drew Sample handled an 88 percent snap share. Since the Week 12 bye, the 29-year-old Gesicki has failed to reach a 50 percent snap share in any contest. With limited opportunities in the Bengals' passing attack, the veteran should not be trusted for fantasy purposes. Cincinnati hosts the Broncos in Week 17.
Dec 15, 2024
Three catches in Week 15 win
Gesicki caught three of four targets for 37 yards in Sunday's 37-27 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki finished a distant third on the team in receiving yards behind Ja'Marr Chase (94) and Tee Higgins (88). The veteran tight end has accounted for only two of Joe Burrow's league-leading 36 touchdown passes heading into a Week 16 home game against the Browns, but Gesicki has carved out a passable floor with at least three catches in each of his last three games.
Dec 10, 2024
Nabs three catches Monday
Gesicki brought in all three of his targets for 24 yards in Monday's 27-20 win over Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki has caught all eight of his targets since the Bengals Week 12 bye, resulting in 77 receiving yards. Those numbers scratch the surface for those in deeper formats, but leave much to be desired as a standard-league tight end. Gesicki and the Bengals have road tilt scheduled against the Titans in Week 15.
Dec 2, 2024
Perfect on five targets
Gesicki recorded five receptions on five targets for 53 yards in Sunday's 44-38 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki's production had been tied to Tee Higgins' availability, though both managed to get involved Sunday. Gesicki finished third on the team in targets and tallied long receptions of 20 and 18 yards. Nevertheless, it will be difficult to trust him moving forward as he has managed to top 30 receiving yards in only three of seven games with Higgins on the field.
Nov 18, 2024
Held catchless on SNF
Gesicki failed to bring in either of his targets in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki had a rough go of things in a smaller role following star wideout Tee Higgins' (quadriceps) return Sunday. The veteran tight end has truly been a boom-or-bust option in fantasy this season, producing four games with less than one standard fantasy point while posting big numbers in others. Gesicki enters a bye week with a line of 34-383-2 in 12 starts with Cincinnati. The Bengals resume play against the Steelers on Dec. 1.
Nov 8, 2024
Modest output in loss
Gesicki brought in four of nine targets for 30 yards in the Bengals' 35-34 loss to the Ravens on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was third on the team in targets with a figure that also tied his season high, but unlike other games when Tee Higgins (quadricep) has been sidelined, Gesicki couldn't do much with the opportunity. The veteran tight end's yardage total was his fifth of 30 yards or less this season, and assuming Higgins is back to full health for a Week 11 road matchup against the Chargers on Sunday night, Nov. 17, Gesicki could be revert to a much smaller role.
Nov 3, 2024
Comes alive with late TDs
Gesicki secured five of six targets for 100 yards and two touchdowns in the Bengals' 41-24 win over the Raiders on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was the surprise leader in receiving yards on the afternoon for the Bengals, but he'd never gotten close had it not been for the 58 yards he gained on his two second-half touchdown grabs, the latter an impressive 47-yard catch and run with 5:37 remaining to put the game definitively out of reach. Gesicki has consistently delivered strong performances whenever Tee Higgins (quadricep) has been sidelined, and he may have another opportunity to take the field without his teammate due to the short turnaround before a Week 10 road matchup against the Ravens on Thursday night.
Oct 27, 2024
Breakout effort in loss
Gesicki secured seven of eight targets for 73 yards in the Bengals' 37-17 loss to the Eagles on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was the surprise leader for the Bengals in receiving yards while checking in second to Ja'Marr Chase in both receptions and targets as well. The veteran tight end had logged under 20 snaps in each of his previous two games while logging just one reception for minus-2 yards in that span, but Tee Higgins' (quadriceps) absence certainly may have played a part in the unexpected surge. Gesicki could remain similarly involved in a Week 9 home matchup against the Raiders if his teammate logs a second straight absence.
Oct 21, 2024
Plays just 16 snaps
Gesicki played only 16 offensive snaps in Sunday's win over the Browns, catching one pass for two yards. He also recovered a late onside kick attempt by the Browns.
ANALYSIS
This was the fewest number of snaps for Gesicki, and his smallest snap share (16%). This was in part due to the Bengals' run-heavy game script, as they barely attempted to throw the ball after they got off to a 21-6 lead. Presumably that game script won't be present in Week 8 against the Eagles.
Oct 16, 2024
Not targeted against Giants
Gesicki failed to record a single target in Sunday's 17-7 win over the Giants
ANALYSIS
Gesicki played just 19 of the Bengals' 53 offensive snaps against the Giants, his second-lowest snap total of the season. Meanwhile, Drew Sample (26) and Erick All (23) were on the field more than the 29-year-old Gesicki. Sunday marked the first contest in which Gesicki was held without a catch, coinciding with All's ascension to the top spot on the depth chart as Cincinnati's preferred pass-catching option. Gesicki should be left off the fantasy radar heading into a Week 7 matchup against the Browns.
Oct 11, 2024
Clear for Week 6
Gesicki (hamstring) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's contest at the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was held out of Wednesday's practice due to a hamstring issue before returning as a limited participant one day later. With his status cleared up for Week 6 action, he'll continue to serve as one of the tight ends available to QB Joe Burrow, which so far has amounted to a 17-178-0 line on 21 targets through five games.
Oct 10, 2024
Back at practice
Gesicki (hamstring) returned to a limited practice Thursday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki didn't practice Wednesday, so the tight end's return to the field a day later -- albeit in a limited fashion -- has him trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Giants. However, Gesicki will presumably need to practice fully Friday in order to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.
Oct 9, 2024
Dealing with hamstring issue
Gesicki (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was on the field for 29 of the Bengals' 67 snaps on offense in this past Sunday's 41-38 overtime loss to the Ravens, en route to catching both of his targets for 31 yards. After logging 18 targets in his first three games this season, the veteran TE has seen just three over his last two outings, with the presence of rookie Erick All (14 catches -- on 14 targets -- for 92 yards in his last four contests) having started to hamper Gesicki's fantasy upside.
Oct 9, 2024
Targeted twice against Ravens
Gesicki secured both of his targets for 31 yards in Sunday's 41-38 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki played 29 of the Bengals' 67 offensive snaps Sunday while rookie tight end Erick All was on the field for 35 snaps. This marks the second-straight week in which the rookie played more snaps than Gesicki. The 29-year-old veteran could continue to see his role diminish with the emergence of All, limiting his fantasy upside. Gesicki remains difficult to trust for fantasy purposes heading into a Week 6 matchup with the Giants.
Oct 2, 2024
Targeted once in win
Gesicki caught his lone target for minus-9 yards in Sunday's 34-24 win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki had his worst statistical game of the young season Sunday, tallying season lows in targets, catches and yards. In addition, the 28-year-old tight end saw his lowest offensive snap share in Week 4, playing 32 percent of snaps while rookie Erick All played 60 percent of snaps. Though one game should not lead to panic, the emergence of All could result in a reduced number of opportunities for Gesicki. Nonetheless, the veteran will look to bounce back in a Week 5 matchup against the Ravens.
Sep 25, 2024
Four grabs in loss
Gesicki caught four of his five targets for 47 yards in Monday's 38-33 loss to the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki continued to be involved Monday, seeing a solid five targets in the contest. The veteran tight end has now seen at least four targets in each of the first three games. Gesicki also led all tight ends in playing time, playing 31 of the team's offensive snaps ahead of Drew Sample (25) and Erick All (21). The 28-year-old should continue to be involved in Week 4 when the Bengals visit the Panthers.
Sep 21, 2024
All set for Monday
Gesicki (calf) does not carry an injury designation for Monday's contest against the Commanders, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was a full participant in Saturday's practice, clearing the way for the tight end to play Monday. The 28-year-old was a revelation in Week 2, recording seven receptions on nine targets for 91 yards in the loss, but that workload could shift with the return of wide receiver Tee Higgins (hamstring), who will be making his season debut Monday.
Sep 20, 2024
Status quo with limited practice
Gesicki (calf) remained limited in practice Friday, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki has logged back-to-back limited practice sessions as the Bengals prepare to face the Commanders on Monday. He'll look to raise his participation and avoid Saturday's injury report altogether, which would be a relief for Gesicki's fantasy managers, as alternatives will be limited for those relying on Gesicki to fill a lineup spot Monday.
Sep 19, 2024
Limited due to calf issue
Gesicki (calf) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki is nursing a calf injury heading into a Monday night matchup against the Commanders, but it's encouraging to see him practicing in at least a limited fashion. The tight end has drawn 13 targets in his two games wearing a Bengals uniform, highlighted by a 7-91-0 performance Week 2 against the Chiefs. It's worth noting though that if Tee Higgins (hamstring), who was also limited in practice Thursday, manages to return Week 3, he could eat into Gesicki's target opportunities.
Sep 15, 2024
Delivers despite taking loss
Gesicki hauled in seven of nine targets for 91 yards in Sunday's 26-25 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki rebounded from a lackluster Week 1 performance to provide faithful managers with a strong receiving line against a tough defensive unit. The newly-signed tight end could wind up being a great fit as an auxiliary option for superstar QB Joe Burrow as this offense continues to progress following a tumultuous offseason. Gesicki remains a mid-range option in fantasy heading into a matchup against the Commanders on Monday Night Football.
Sep 11, 2024
Minimal production in loss
Gesicki caught three of his four targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki played the second-most offensive snaps (18) of any Bengals tight end behind Drew Sample who finished the contest with 27 snaps. He did, however, see the most targets of any tight end for Cincinnati. The entire Bengals offense struggled Sunday, so Gesicki's limited production was not overly surprising. The veteran will look to be more involved as Cincinnati tries to turn things around against the Chiefs in Week 2.
Aug 12, 2024
Plays in preseason loss
Gesicki (undisclosed) played eight offensive snaps during Saturday's 17-14 preseason loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki missed some practice reps last week due to tightness, but he was cleared to suit up for a handful of plays during Cincinnati's preseason opener. He didn't record any stats during the exhibition matchup, but that means little in such a small sample. Gesicki is competing to solidify himself as the clear top pass-catching option in Cincinnati's tight end room, and his next chance to showcase his talents in preseason action will come Saturday on the road against Chicago.
Aug 5, 2024
Day-to-day with tightness
Coach Zac Taylor said Monday that Gesicki (undisclosed) is managing some tightness and considered day-to-day, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki has reportedly been building some positive chemistry with new quarterback Joe Burrow at training camp, but it sounds like the tight end could be a candidate to be held out of Saturday's preseason opener against the Buccaneers, if Cincinnati's starters do suit up. Though Gesicki is coming off back-to-back seasons in which he failed to tally 400 receiving yards, there's reason to be optimistic that his athleticism sets up well for a comeback in Cincinnati's passing game, but that will depend on the 28-year-old staying healthy and truly establishing himself as the No. 1 option in the Bengals' tight end room.
Jul 26, 2024
Showing chemistry with Burrow
Gesicki already seems to have good chemistry with QB Joe Burrow, SI's James Rapien reports.
ANALYSIS
It sounds like the tight end is getting a lot of first-team reps early in training camp, which wasn't a sure thing after he had only 244 yards for the Patriots last season and then got only $240,000 guaranteed this spring on his one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Bengals. It's backup money by most standards, yet enough to make Gesicki a starting candidate in a TE room where the other veteran options are Drew Sample and Tanner Hudson. The Bengals also have two rookie draft picks, fourth-rounder Erick All (knee) and sixth-rounder Tanner MacLachlan, but Gesicki is shaping up as an early favorite to lead the team's tight ends in targets.
Mar 12, 2024
Joining Cincinnati TE corps
Gesicki is in line to sign a one-year deal with the Bengals, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Schefter, Gesicki's pending deal is worth up to $3.25 million. The 28-year-old is coming off a 2023 campaign in which he caught 29 of his 45 targets for 244 yards and a pair of TDs in 17 regular season games, while working in a New England tight end corps that also included Hunter Henry and Pharaoh Brown. With Cincinnati, it's plausible that Gesicki (who caught 73 passes with Miami in 2021) could see an uptick in targets if he's able to earn steady snaps and develop a strong rapport with QB Joe Burrow.
Jan 8, 2024
Catches 29 passes this season
Gesicki finished the 2023 season with 29 catches on 45 targets for 244 yards and two TDs in 17 games.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was brought in by the Patriots this past March on a one-year deal to pair with fellow tight end Hunter Henry, essentially replacing Jonnu Smith, who the team had traded to the Falcons. At the time, it seemed as though Gesicki would have a chance to bounce back as a pass-catcher following a subpar 2022 campaign with the Dolphins. However, while working in a time-share that tilted in Henry's favor in a passing attack that struggled to find consistency, Gesicki's fantasy impact was modest. Following a 4-13 effort, the Patriots figure to make plenty of changes this offseason, and it remains to be seen whether the team looks to re-sign Gesicki in the coming months.
Dec 31, 2023
Team-high four grabs Sunday
Gesicki caught four of six targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 27-21 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
The catches and targets both led the Patriots, although the tight end wasn't able to do much with the volume. With Hunter Henry (wrist) sidelined the last two games, Gesicki has produced a modest 6-50-1 line on eight targets, so even if Henry misses New England's season finale in Week 18 against the Jets, Gesicki's fantasy value will be minimal.
Dec 31, 2023
Likely to fill in for Henry
Gesicki is expected to serve as the Patriots' top tight end Sunday in Buffalo with Hunter Henry (knee) inactive for the contest, Chris Brown of the Bills Radio Network reports.
ANALYSIS
While Henry was sidelined for last Sunday's 26-23 loss to the Broncos, Gesicki played two-thirds of New England's snaps on offense and finished with two catches for 15 yards and a touchdown on two targets. Gesicki should remain the top tight end once again Week 17 while Pharaoh Brown serves as the No. 2 option, but neither profiles as a reliable fantasy option within the context of a weak New England passing attack.
Dec 25, 2023
Notches TD in Sunday's win
Gesicki, who was on the field for 38 of a possible 58 snaps on offense in Sunday's 26-23 win over the Broncos, perMike Reiss of ESPN.com, caught both of his targets in the contest for 15 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
With Hunter Henry (knee) sidelined Sunday, Gesicki and Pharaoh Brown (27 snaps, two catches for 25 yards) handled the bulk of the Patriots' TE reps in Week 16. Gesicki's TD salvaged what would have otherwise been a quiet fantasy effort, and looking ahead to this weekend's game against the Bills, he profiles as a hit-or-miss lineup option regardless of Henry's status.
Dec 18, 2023
One catch Sunday
Gesicki, who was on the field for 21 of a possible 53 snaps on offense, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, caught one of his two targets for seven yards in Sunday's 27-17 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki's modest production continued in Week 15, but it's possible that he and Pharaoh Brown could see added opportunities this coming weekend against the Broncos if a knee issue causes fellow TE Hunter Henry to miss time. In the event that Henry (who caught seven passes for 66 yards and a TD versus the Chiefs) is unavailable in Week 16, Gesicki's role in New England's passing attack would likely increase, but he'd still profile as a fantasy dart, even in that context.
Dec 8, 2023
No targets in Week 14
Gesicki was on the field for 19 of a possible 57 snaps on offense in Thursday's 21-18 win over the Steelers, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
For the second consecutive game, Gesicki -- who last recorded a catch in Week 10 -- did not log a target. Until or unless he gets more involved in the Patriots offense down the stretch, Gesicki will remain off the fantasy radar.
Dec 4, 2023
Limited snaps Sunday
Gesicki logged seven of a possible 64 snaps on offense in Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Chargers, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki, who was out-snapped in the contest by fellow TEs Hunter Henry (47 snaps) and Pharaoh Brown (32 snaps), did not record a target Sunday. Following back-to-back zero-catch efforts, Gesicki is not a reliable fantasy lineup option as Thursday night's game against the Steelers approaches.
Nov 27, 2023
Logs two targets Sunday
Gesicki did not record a catch on two targets during Sunday's 10-7 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
In a game in which no New England tight end caught a pass, Gesicki was on the field for 18 of a possible 68 snaps on offense Sunday, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. As this coming weekend's game against the Chargers approaches, Gesicki profiles as a fantasy dart in Week 13.
Nov 13, 2023
Two catches versus Colts
Gesicki was on the field for 46 of a possible 69 snaps in Sunday's 10-6 loss to the Colts, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki -- who caught two of his three targets in the contest for 22 yards -- continues to work in a TE time share with Hunter Henry (50 snaps) and Pharaoh Brown (33 snaps), a context that limits his fantasy utility to deeper formats. Through his first 10 games with the Patriots, Gesicki is averaging 2.1 catches on three targets for 18.2 yards per game.
Nov 6, 2023
Held without a catch Sunday
Gesicki logged 55 of a possible 64 snaps on offense in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Commanders, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Gesicki saw plenty of snaps Sunday, he didn't record a catch on one target, while fellow TE Hunter Henry (56 snaps) caught four of seven targets for 39 yards and a touchdown in the contest. While working in a time-share, Gesicki remains a hit-or-miss fantasy option as this weekend's game against the Colts approaches.
Oct 30, 2023
Two catches Sunday
Gesicki was on the field for 15 of a possible 53 snaps on offense in Sunday's 31-17 loss to the Dolphins, while catching two of his three targets for 11 yards in the contest, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was out-snapped Sunday by both Hunter Henry (31 snaps, three catches) and Pharaoh Brown (21 snaps, two catches), as the Patriots' time-share at tight end continues. With 19 catches (on 25 targets) for 160 yards and a TD in eight games to date, Gesicki only merits lineup consideration in deeper fantasy formats.
Oct 23, 2023
Catches game-winning TD
Gesicki, who logged 30 of a possible 60 snaps on offense in Sunday's 29-25 win over the Bills, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, caught both of his targets for five yards and a TD in the contest.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki shared Week 7 TE work with Hunter Henry (30 snaps, two catches) and Pharaoh Brown (23 snaps, two catches), but his second catch of the day (with just 12 seconds left on the clock) was a one-yard game-winning TD. Through seven games to date, Gesicki has caught 17 of his 22 targets for 149 yards and a TD, a rate of production that limits his fantasy value to deeper formats.
Oct 16, 2023
Three catches in Week 6
Gesicki logged 36 of a possible 60 snaps on offense in Sunday's 21-17 loss to the Raiders, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In the process, Gesicki caught all three of his targets for 28 yards. As long as the 2018 second-round continues to share work with fellow TE Hunter Henry, his fantasy upside will remain modest. Through six games to date, Gesicki has combined for 15 catches on 20 targets for 144 yards, while Henry has recorded an 18/183/2 receiving line in that same span.
Oct 9, 2023
Catches two passes in Week 5
Gesicki logged 16 of a possible 54 snaps on offense, while catching two of his four targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 34-0 loss to the Saints, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, Hunter Henry was on the field for 42 snaps, but didn't catch either of his two targets in the contest. As this coming weekend's game against the Raiders approaches, neither of the Patriots TEs are high-percentage fantasy options while working in an offense that has scored just three points over the last two weeks.
Oct 2, 2023
One catch in Week 4
Gesicki, who was on the field for 33 of a possible 55 snaps on offense in Sunday's 38-3 loss to the Cowboys, caught one of his three targets in the contest for 12 yards, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fellow TE Hunter Henry logged 44 snaps in the game, while catching four of his five targets for 51 yards. Through his first four outings with New England, Gesicki has caught 10 of his 13 targets for 99 yards, and in the wake off back-to-back one-catch efforts, he's a speculative fantasy option in Week 5 versus New Orleans.
Sep 25, 2023
Logs one catch versus Jets
Gesicki caught his only target in Sunday's 15-10 win over the Jets for 18 yards.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki logged 34 of a possible 72 snaps on offense Sunday, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com, while Hunter Henry recorded 68 snaps (recording two catches) and Pharaoh Brown parlayed his 25 snaps into a 2-71-1 receiving line. After combining for nine catches on 10 targets for 87 yards through his first three outing with the Patriots, Gesicki remains a hit-or-miss fantasy option due to the team's TE time-share.
Sep 18, 2023
Fives catches versus former team
Gesicki, who was on the field for 53 of a possible 74 snaps on offense in Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Dolphins, caught five of his six targets for 33 yards in the contest, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Patriots found a way to keep both of their tight ends involved Sunday, with Hunter Henry logging 68 snaps while catching six of his seven targets for 52 yards and a TD. However, as long as a TE time share remains the norm for the team, Gesicki's bankable fantasy ceiling will be be capped. Next up for New England is a Week 3 matchup with the 1-1 Jets.
Sep 11, 2023
Three catches in Week 1
Gesicki, who was on the field for 33 of a possible 80 snaps on offense in Sunday's season-opening 25-20 loss to the Eagles, caught all three of his targets for 36 yards in his regular-season debut with the Patriots, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, fellow TE Hunter Henry logged 63 snaps while catching five of his six targets for 56 yards and a TD. As the season progresses, there figures to be weeks where Gesicki sees more targets, but as long as Henry is available, the 2018 second-rounder looks like a hit-or-miss fantasy lineup option.
Sep 6, 2023
Not on injury report
Gesicki (shoulder) isn't listed on the Patriots' Week 1 injury report.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki suffered a mild shoulder dislocation in mid-August, but he's good to go as the Patriots season opener against the Eagles approaches. This coming season, both Gesicki and Hunter Henry figure to see their share of snaps and targets, with the Patriots likely to employ a good amount of two-tight end sets featuring the duo. The potential for a time-share could result in Gesicki's weekly volume fluctuating, but the 2018 second-rounder could carve out fantasy utility in 2023 nonetheless, given his pass-catching prowess.
Aug 27, 2023
Sheds non-contact jersey
Gesicki (shoulder) shed the red non-contact jersey during Sunday's practice, Phil Perry of NBC Sports Boston reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki returned to practice last week in limited fashion after suffering a mild shoulder dislocation in mid-August. It's unclear how intense Sunday's session was, but it's still encouraging to see the veteran tight end taking the next steps in his rehab process. It appears Gesicki is on track to be fully cleared soon, and there's only two weeks left before New England opens the regular season against Philadelphia at home.
Aug 25, 2023
Not playing Friday
Gesicki (shoulder) isn't expected to play in Friday's preseason game in Tennessee, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki thus won't see any exhibition action with his new team, partly due to the mild shoulder dislocation that he sustained during practice on Aug. 14. He'll turn his focus to getting healthy for a Week 1 matchup with the Eagles on Sept. 10, when he'll potentially team with Hunter Henry as the Patriots' top TE duo.
Aug 22, 2023
Wearing non-contact jersey
Gesicki (shoulder) returned to practice Tuesday in a non-contact jersey, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki continues to work his way back from a mild shoulder dislocation. The Patriots have remained hopeful about his chances of returning in time for Week 1's matchup against the Eagles, and resuming non-contact reps is a notable step in the right direction. Still, Gesicki doesn't seem likely to suit up for Friday's preseason finale against the Titans.
Aug 19, 2023
Not playing Saturday night
Gesicki (shoulder) is not expected to play in Saturday's preseason contest against the Packers, Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki dislocated his shoulder in practice earlier this week and should be considered doubtful to play again this preseason. The Patriots are hoping Gesicki will be able to return in time for Week 1. Hunter Henry is dressed for Saturday's exhibition.
Aug 15, 2023
Suffered mild shoulder dislocation
Gesicki (shoulder) suffered a mild dislocation in practice Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Patriots are reportedly hopeful for Gesicki's chances of suiting up Week 1 despite the shoulder injury, but it seems likely that the issue will sideline him from upcoming preseason action. In the meantime, Anthony Firkser and Matt Sokol will be candidates to handle increased reps behind Hunter Henry. Any misses preseason reps could prove significant for Gesicki, as Henry has already established himself in New England's offense and built a connection with Mac Jones.
Aug 14, 2023
Hurt in practice Monday
Gesicki left Monday's practice after suffering an unspecified injury on a tackling drill, Zack Cox of NESN reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was hurt after being tackled by Jahlani Tavai. The exact nature of the injury has yet to be disclosed, but Evan Lazar of the Patriots' official site believes the injury was to Gesicki's right arm. An update on the tight end's status should surface ahead of New England's next preseason game, Saturday in Green Bay.
Jul 14, 2023
Slated to work alongside Henry
This coming season, the Patriots appear likely to employ a good amount of two-tight end sets featuring Gesicki and Hunter Henry, Evan Lazar of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that over the last two seasons the Patriots ranked 25th in 12-personnel usage, but with Gesicki now in the mix instead of Jonnu Smith, look for the team to find ways to utilize the newcomer's natural pass-catching skills and alignment flexibility in tandem with Henry. Assuming new offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien does in fact allocate ample snaps to New England's top TE duo, Gesicki has a good chance to see an uptick from the 32-362-5 receiving line he put up while logging 52 targets (down from 112 in 2021) in 17 games with the Dolphins last season. Per Lazar, the 27-year-old free-agent addition was "impactful in OTAs and minicamp sessions running the seam, stretching the field horizontally, and showing decent separation quickness."
Mar 17, 2023
Inked by New England
The Patriots are signing Gesicki to a one-year contract Friday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki remains in the AFC East, moving on after five seasons with the Dolphins to sign with a division rival. The athletic tight end took a back seat to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle in 2022, with just a 32-362-5 receiving line through 17 regular-season appearances, but he logged two straight seasons with 700+ receiving yards from 2020-21. Now in New England, Gesicki is set to form a tight end tandem with Hunter Henry, a superior blocker and capable pass-catcher in his own right. Gesicki, however, boasts deep-threat and YAC abilities unique to the Patriots' tight end room, giving him the potential to emerge as an interesting fantasy option if he can establish a successful rapport with Mac Jones this offseason.
Feb 2, 2023
Likely to depart as free agent
Gesicki is expected to part ways with the Dolphins as a free agent this offseason, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki secured 32 of 52 targets for 362 yards and five touchdowns across 17 regular-season appearances with the Dolphins in 2022, and general manager Chris Grier said he has "earned the right to be a free agent" after a year playing on the franchise tag. The tight end appeared a questionable fit in coach Mike McDaniel's scheme even ahead of the 2022 campaign, and despite Miami's coaching staff relaying continued optimism that the athletic tight end would keep a key role on offense, he ended up with his lowest receiving marks since his rookie season. Though Gesicki continued to flash occasional playmaking ability when called upon in 2022, his underwhelming utilization in McDaniel's scheme makes it seem unlikely he re-signs with the Dolphins. Other franchises in the league should be more willing to feature Gesicki's receiving skillset.
Jan 9, 2023
Productive in Week 18 win
Gesicki secured four of six targets for 46 yards during Sunday's 11-6 win over the Jets
ANALYSIS
Gesicki recorded more receiving yardage Week 18 than his last six games combined, showing some sparks with third-string quarterback Skylar Thompsonunder center. The Dolphins could realistically have either Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) or Teddy Bridgewater back under center for the upcoming wild-card matchup against the Bills, so it remains to be seen whether Gesicki's trend of more noticeable involvement will continue.
Jan 2, 2023
Ends cold streak with touchdown
Gesicki secured two of four targets for 18 yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 23-21 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki recorded more than one catch for the first time since Week 10 and scored for the first time since Week 8 on Sunday, though his yardage total was still modest. The tight end's increased involvement was likely a product of Miami's conservative gameplan without Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) in the lineup, a trend that could repeat Week 18 at home against the Jets.
Dec 26, 2022
Makes one catch in loss
Gesicki secured one of two targets for 24 yards during Sunday's 26-20 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki has combined for two catches for 29 yards in five games since Miami's bye in Week 11. Regardless of any athletic or big-play ability he's flashed in previous seasons, Gesicki can only be considered an extremely low-floor option heading into a Week 17 divisional clash against the Patriots. Outside of fantasy formats that start multiple tight ends, he's likely out of consideration for lineups.
Dec 19, 2022
Remains uninvolved
Gesicki secured his only target for five yards during Saturday's 32-29 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki broke his three-game zero-catch streak during Saturday's divisional loss, but not by much. The franchise-tagged tight end hasn't recorded a game with double-digit scrimmage yards since Week 10, a trend that keeps him off the fantasy radar in almost all formats heading into a Week 16 matchup against the Packers. Gesicki is trending in the direction of his worst statistical season since 2018, his rookie campaign.
Dec 12, 2022
Zero catch streak continues
Gesicki could not secure either of his two targets during Sunday night's 23-17 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki hasn't recorded a single yard from scrimmage since mid-November, a trend that was established even before Tua Tagovailoa's recent two-game slump. Regardless of his athletic traits and big-play ability, Gesicki's recent floor puts him outside the fantasy radar in most formats heading into a tough Week 15 matchup against the Bills.
Dec 5, 2022
Can't secure lone target
Gesicki failed to haul in his only target during Sunday's 33-17 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki very nearly converted his only target into a critical fourth-down conversion with roughly 6:00 on the clock in the fourth quarter, but it was overturned after a coach's challenge determined he didn't maintain control of the ball. Heartbreaking penalty aside, Gesicki's involvement was once again in opposition to what fantasy managers hope. The athletic tight end has logged back-to-back one-target games since Miami's bye, and he's only gone above 50 receiving yards once this season. Fantasy managers will hope from more out of Gesicki versus the Chargers in Week 14, but he is a dangerously low floor option at tight end.
Nov 28, 2022
Held without a catch
Gesicki failed to secure his only target during Sunday's 30-15 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki didn't record any yardage Week 12 while No. 2 tight end Durham Smythe turned his only target into a four-yard touchdown, the only score Tua Tagovailoa threw before exiting Sunday's blowout win early. Tagovailoa has excelled at distributing the ball efficiently recently, and he connected with nine different targets for completions versus Houston, solidifying the reality that Gesicki's fantasy floor is nonexistent. The athletic tight end is still a weekly big-play threat, but with just three catches in his last three games, it will be difficult for fantasy managers to confidently rely on Gesicki heading into a Week 13 matchup against the 49ers.
Nov 14, 2022
Only two catches in blowout win
Gesicki secured two of three targets for 31 yards during Sunday's 39-17 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki has only surpassed 50 receiving yards in one of his 10 appearances this season, and Sunday's win was a reminder to fantasy managers that the athletic tight end's floor is worrying due to a passing offense that runs through Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. It was Trent Sherfield (5-63-1) who capitalized on complementary target opportunities Week 10, and while Gesicki will remain involved when the Dolphins return from their Week 11 bye, the tight end's fantasy results may not be desirable in contests where he doesn't score.
Nov 7, 2022
Near invisible in Week 9 win
Gesicki secured one of two targets for three yards during Sunday's 35-32 win over the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki's lack of involvement in a competitive game that saw Tua Tagovailoa attempt 30 passes, surpassing 300 yards with three aerial touchdowns, was a disappointing reminder for fantasy managers that he should be considered a boom-or-bust lineup option. In Sunday's win Gesicki's most notable play may have been a failure to connect with Tagovailoa in the the third quarter, when the Dolphins attempted to convert on fourth-and-six. The athletic tight end will get a chance to rebound Week 10 against the Browns.
Oct 30, 2022
Finds end zone in win
Gesicki brought in three of four targets for 38 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' 31-27 win over the Lions on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki checked in second in receptions, receiving yards and targets on the afternoon, and he brought in his fourth touchdown grab of the season on an 11-yard catch late in the third quarter that proved to be the difference in the game for the Dolphins. The veteran tight end's involvement has picked up over the last three games after an uneven start to the campaign, as Gesicki now has a 12-134-2 line in that span. Gesicki's next opportunity to extend that streak comes against the Bears in a Week 9 road matchup.
Oct 24, 2022
Struggles with seven targets
Gesicki caught three of seven targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 16-10 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki failed to capitalize off of last week's two-score performance, crashing back down to earth with a forgettable fantasy line. The seven targets with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion/ankle) back under center was noteworthy, as the duo failed to produce more than four targets in any game both have been active in this season. Gesicki remains a fringe fantasy tight end heading into next Sunday's matchup against the Lions.
Oct 16, 2022
Pair of touchdowns in loss
Gesicki brought in six of seven targets for 69 yards and two touchdowns in the Dolphins' 24-16 loss to the Vikings on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The little-used tight end was the surprise recipient of Teddy Bridgewater's two touchdown passes, scoring from four and three yards out in the fourth quarter to make things interesting. Gesicki's usage in new head coach Mike McDaniel's offense has been inconsistent to say the least, and Durham Smythe's (hamstring) inactive status may have certainly helped his teammate's cause Sunday; nevertheless, perhaps the season-best showing will allow Gesicki to continue seeing more opportunities in a Week 7 Sunday night battle against the Steelers.
Oct 10, 2022
Held to one catch
Gesicki secured one of two targets for 30 yards during Sunday's 40-17 loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Gesiki was working with Skylar Thompson under center for most of Sunday's divisional loss, but when the Dolphins deployed a trick play utilizing the tight end position at the goal line, it was Durham Smythe (hamstring) who scored. Even if one of Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) or Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) are able to retake the field Week 6, Gesicki's usage makes him difficult to trust for fantasy purposes. He has just one game this season with more than two catches.
Sep 30, 2022
Just two catches Thursday
Gesicki secured two of four targets for 23 yards during Thursday's 27-15 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki's 23 yards were actually his second highest single-game total of the season, and a harsh reminder for fantasy managers that the tight end's weekly floor has vanished. It's possible that Gesicki could have a higher ceiling during Week 5's divisional matchup versus the Jets, but that also heavily depends on whether Teddy Bridgewater or Tua Tagovailoa (neck/concussion) is on hand to helm Miami's offense.
Sep 26, 2022
Barely visible in win over Bills
Gesicki secured his only target for six yards during Sunday's 21-19 win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki logged a solid Week 2, with four catches for 41 yards and a score versus Baltimore, but in Miami's other two games this season he's combined for just two catches for seven yards. This is an offense that clearly runs through Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle (groin), which leaves Gesicki -- and most of the Dolphins' other offensive playmakers, for that matter -- as risky, boom-or-bust options for fantasy purposes.
Sep 18, 2022
Bounces back in Week 2 win
Gesicki secured all four targets for 41 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' 42-38 win over the Ravens on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
After a concerning Week 1 performance during which Gesicki was targeted just once, questions arose about whether a significantly reduced role would be par for the course in head coach Mike McDaniel's offense. However, those fears were allayed for at least a week, as Gesicki checked in third in receptions and receiving yards to the superhuman wideout duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The Penn State product also made a memorable catch that was an early part of Miami's memorable comeback, making an impressive 14-yard leaping grab in the back of the end zone midway through the third quarter. Gesicki will aim to mount a successful encore in a Week 3 home showdown against the Bills next Sunday.
Sep 12, 2022
Targeted just once
Gesicki secured his only target for one yard during Sunday's 20-7 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was barely involved as a route-runner and only received one look from Tua Tagovailoa in his first game under new head coach Mike McDaniel, an outcome that portends poorly for his rest-of-season prospects. Barring an unforeseen changeup in Miami's offensive gameplan, Gesicki may no longer fall within the category of tight ends boasting weekly fantasy upside, barring multi-TE formats. At the very least, fantasy managers will need to see some production from Gesicki before leaning on him in start-sit decisions.
Aug 31, 2022
Trade rumors shut down
General manager Chris Grier said Wednesday that the Dolphins received two inquiries from other teams about trading Gesicki this week, but that the tight end is not being shopped, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was subject to trade rumors during the preseason, in part due to conjecture that his limitations as a blocker aren't ideal for coach Mike McDaniel's scheme. However, it looks like the Dolphins intend to keep the franchise-tagged tight end in house for the 2023 campaign, which sets him up to operate as the No. 3 receiving option for Tua Tagovailoa behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle (lower body). It remains to be seen whether Gesicki surrenders more snaps to No. 2 tight end Durham Smythe, a more capable blocker, this season.
Aug 27, 2022
One catch in preseason finale
Gesicki tallied one catch on one target for 18 yards in Saturday's 48-10 preseason win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki made his lone catch of the game on the team's third offensive possession, which helped set up a one-yard touchdown plunge for Sony Michel. Gesicki has been the subject of trade rumors due to questions regarding his potential role in the Miami offense as a true tight end -- rather than a de facto wide receiver -- in recent days. However, if he remains in Miami, Gesicki could still be the third option in the passing attack behind Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Aug 25, 2022
Subject of trade discussions
Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said trade reports about Gesicki were "misleading" because many names are brought up in trade conversations, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki, playing 2022 under a franchise tag for $10.9 million, has acknowledged the difficulty of taking more inline snaps in McDaniel's offense. The Dolphins clearly thought he could do it successfully after years of primarily working the slot, considering McDaniel was hired before Gesicki was tagged. The team may be having second thoughts with Gesicki struggling a bit this preseason, though McDaniel said Thursday that the 26-year-old had an excellent week of practice. If Gesicki were to be traded or demoted -- something that seems to have been discussed already -- Durham Smythe would be left as Miami's likely starter at tight end, backed up by Hunter Long and Cethan Carter.
Aug 20, 2022
Plays entire first half Saturday
Gesicki brought in three of six targets for 27 yards in the Dolphins' 15-13 preseason loss to the Raiders on Saturday night while playing the entire first half.
ANALYSIS
Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports that Gesicki, who was on the receiving end of Tua Tagovailoa's third pass attempt, embraced the unusually robust preseason workload for a proven player like himself, noting he needed plenty of reps playing a true tight end role after essentially serving as a de facto wide receiver over the last two seasons. Head coach Mike McDaniel added that the opportunity gave Gesicki a chance to stay diligent and commit further to the dual responsibilities of pass-catching and blocking, the latter which he appears destined to do more of this coming season than in past years.
Aug 13, 2022
One catch in limited action
Gesicki brought in his only target for 13 yards in the Dolphins' 26-24 preseason win over the Buccaneers on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
The talented tight end was one of the only regulars on the Dolphins offense to see action. Gesicki heads into his fifth season looking to improve on the impressive 73-780-2 line he mustered in 2021, one that featured career highs in receptions and receiving yards, and he should have a firm grasp on the top spot at his position once again.
Jul 31, 2022
In line for more blocking?
Gesicki has been deployed more as a blocker than as a pass-catcher during the early portion of Miami's training camp, the Boston Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki, who is in line to play out the 2022 season under the franchise tag, has been positioned in-line more often than out wide or in the slot during the early days of training camp. Few targets have gone his way so far, per camp reports. Coach Mike McDaniel's wide-zone run scheme has historically relied on a capable blocking tight end, to the tune of George Kittle (lower body) back in San Francisco, but that isn't a skill that Gesicki has been asked to feature regularly since joining the Dolphins in 2018. McDaniel said Gesicki wants to "attack blocking with a different severity than he ever has before" this offseason, and mentioned that facilitating a strong rushing game will help create opportunities for the tight end in the middle of the field. Still, with both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle around to soak up passing volume, it's unclear whether Gesicki will repeat on 100-plus targets in what looks like a new role.
Jul 15, 2022
Set to play under franchise tag
Gesicki is in line to play the 2022 season on the Dolphins' franchise tag after the tight end and the team were unable to reach an agreement on a long-term deal ahead of Friday's deadline to do so, Mike Masala of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki is thus slated to earn $10.93 million this coming season, while heading a Miami tight end corps that also includes Durham Smythe, Adam Shaheen and Hunter Long. The 26-year-old is coming off a 2021 campaign in which he caught 73 of his 112 targets for 780 yards and two TDs in 17 games. Looking ahead, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN suggests that Gesicki will be at worst the third option in a Dolphins passing attack that also includes dynamic wideouts Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. As long as he can stay healthy, Gesicki -- who has missed just one regular season game in four NFL campaigns -- seems destined to earn a solid share of targets once again in 2022, with Masala noting that new coach Mike McDaniel is expected to implement a system that uses in-line tight ends frequently.

Not expected to receive extension
Gesicki and the Dolphins are unlikely to come to terms on a contract extension ahead of Friday's 4:00 p.m. ET deadline for franchise-tagged players, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki signed his one-year, $10.9-million contract tender in March after reports that may he file a grievance to be treated as a wide receiver in this contract calculation - a move that could have netted him an additional $8.5 million in guaranteed salary. Barring any last-minute negotiations, the 26-year-old now looks primed to play out the 2022 campaign on the franchise tag. Gesicki has been used as a prolific pass-catching threat over the past three seasons with Miami, recording career-highs in targets (112), catches (73) and receiving yards (780) over 17 games in 2021; however, his usage may take a step back in 2022 with talented wideouts Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill also on the team's roster and in line to log plenty of targets this coming season.
Mar 14, 2022
Inks franchise tender
Gesicki has signed his franchise tag tender with the Dolphins, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
There had been some speculation that Gesicki might file a grievance over his franchise tag position, but the 26-year-old is now in line to play for the $10.9 million allotted to tight ends. This past season, Gesicki recorded 73 catches (on 112 targets) for 780 yards and two TDs in 17 games and he'll continue to profile as the Dolphins' top pass-catching option at his position once again in 2022. In the process, he'll maintain fantasy relevance, more so it he's able to hit pay dirt on a more frequent basis. Given that he combined for 11 scores in 31 games between the 2019 and 2020 campaigns, that's a plausible outcome this coming season.
Mar 8, 2022
Could challenge positional tag
Gesicki may file a grievance over his franchise tag position, as the tight end designation carries a $10.9 million salary as opposed to the $18.4 mark for wide receivers, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Miami officially placed the franchise tag on Gesicki prior to Tuesday's 4:00 PM deadline, and specifically called the 26-year-old a tight end in the announcement. As Fowler notes, Gesicki only operated in pass protection on 3.7 percent of quarterback dropbacks last season, and his 266 run blocks were tied for the 28th lowest mark at the position. Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network further notes that Gesicki handled the most snaps out of the slot at the tight end position in 2021, so he could have a case if an official grievance is ultimately filed. It's unclear whether Miami would go ahead with the plan to franchise tag Gesicki if the cost were to increase by $7.5 million.
Mar 8, 2022
Receives franchise tag
Miami used their franchise tag on Gesicki on Tuesday, a league source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki becomes the second tight end to receive the franchise tag this offseason, with the Browns already having brought back David Njoku. The move keeps Gesicki, who is coming off a career season, in the building for 2022 while carrying a $10.8 million salary. The 26-year-old secured 73 of 112 targets for 780 and two scores across 17 appearances in 2021, serving as Tua Tagovailoa's second option in the passing game for much of the year. Despite the fact that Gesicki isn't known as a standout blocker, it appears that new coach Mike McDaniel expects him to remain an integral part of the offensive scheme.
Jan 11, 2022
Career season ends on quiet note
Gesicki secured two of three targets for 22 yards during the Dolphins' season-finale 33-24 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki put together a career year in 2021, finishing the campaign with 73 catches for 780 yards and two touchdowns in 17 appearances. This offseason the Dolphins will need to make a key decision about Gesicki's future with the team, as he is currently set for free agency. Miami's clearest choice between re-signing the 2018 second-round pick or letting him walk. The team could also opt to tag the receiving tight end, and/or to attempt to trade him and recoup some value on investment. After operating as essentially the team's No. 2 receiving option in 2021, Gesicki's value to the Dolphins' offense is clear. However, with coaching changes already having been made, it's unclear how much value Miami will place on positional continuity this offseason.
Jan 2, 2022
Paces team in receiving yardage
Gesicki brought in four of seven targets for 51 yards and also misfired on his one pass attempt in the Dolphins' 34-3 loss to the Titans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The talented tight end co-led the team in receptions and tied for second in targets on a pedestrian afternoon overall for the Dolphins passing game. Gesicki has at least five receptions in three of the past four games, while his yardage total Sunday was his highest since Week 9. The fourth-year pro's final opportunity to improve on what is now a career-best 71-758 line comes in Week 18 versus the Patriots.
Dec 27, 2021
Makes three grabs
Gesicki caught three of four targets for 22 yards in Monday night's 20-3 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki trailed only Jaylen Waddle for Miami's team lead in receptions, but his production paled in comparison to the rookie's 10 grabs for 92 yards and a score. In a vertically-challenged passing attack, Gesicki represents a big-bodied target for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, but he's topped 50 yards just once and hasn't scored over the Dolphins' current seven-game win streak. That illustrates Gesicki's modest upside, but his 47 targets over that same span evidence his consistent role, helping his stock's floor.
Dec 19, 2021
Five catches in Week 15 win
Gesicki caught five of eight targets for 43 yards in Sunday's 31-24 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki tied DeVante Parker for the team lead in targets but trailed both Parker (68) and Isaiah Ford (51) in receiving yards. The tight end has been reliable but far from spectacular, as he's topped 40 yards while coming up short of 60 in eight of 14 games this season. All told, Gesicki has 64 catches for 685 yards and two touchdowns heading into a Week 16 matchup with the Saints.
Dec 5, 2021
Tallies 11 targets
Gesicki recorded seven receptions on 11 targets for 46 yards in Sunday's 20-9 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki kept pace with Jaylen Waddle in terms of targets, the first time since Week 3 that he's racked up double-digit opportunities. While he converted a high number of those looks into catches, Gesicki was largely limited to looks in the short areas of the field as his longest catch went for only 17 yards -- also marking his only double-digit gain on the day. Gesicki has been targeted inconsistently this season, though it's encouraging that he was so involved even with DeVante Parker (shoulder) back on the field.
Nov 28, 2021
Limited to three grabs
Gesicki brought in all three targets for 17 yards in the Dolphins' 33-10 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was much less busy than usual, with his three targets qualifying as his fewest since since Week 1. The Penn State product hasn't visited the end zone since Week 7, but he does have at last three grabs in 10 of the last 11 games. A Week 13 home matchup against a Giants team that's played poor defense on the road should present a solid opportunity for the fourth-year tight end to put up some fantasy-worthy numbers.
Nov 21, 2021
Bounces back with five catches
Gesicki caught five of six targets for 50 yards in Sunday's 24-17 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
This was by no means a flashy effort, but Gesicki's fantasy managers will gladly take it after he was blanked by Baltimore last week. The 26-year-old tight end has been held without a catch twice this season, but he's surpassed 40 receiving yards in all nine other games this season, giving Gesicki one of the highest floors at his position heading into a Week 12 visit from the Panthers.
Nov 12, 2021
Surprisingly blanked in win
Gesicki failed to bring in any of his seven targets in the Dophins' 22-10 win over the Ravens on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
On a celebratory night for the Dolphins due to the sizable upset, Gesicki was a surprising non-factor despite logging a team-high amount of targets. The young veteran hadn't been held without a catch since a Week 6 contest against the Jets last season, and his first chance to atone for the shutout comes against that same New York squad a week from Sunday in a Week 11 road matchup.
Nov 7, 2021
Four grabs in win
Gesicki brought in four of eight targets for 54 yards in the Dolphins' 17-9 win over the Texans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki checked in second in receptions, receiving yards and targets to Jaylen Waddle on the afternoon for the Dolphins and recorded a couple of nifty one-handed grabs along the way. The Penn State product has eclipsed 50 receiving yards in three of his past four games, sending him into the Week 10 home Thursday night matchup against the Ravens with some solid momentum.
Oct 31, 2021
Records two-point play in loss
Gesicki secured three of four targets for 48 yards and also caught a two-point conversion pass in the Dolphins' 26-11 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The talented tight end's yardage total, modest as it was, checked in second only to that of DeVante Parker's on the Dolphins for the afternoon. However, with a long catch of 40 yards, Gesicki's other two grabs went for just eight yards. The two-point conversion reception helped prop up his totals just slightly, but Gesicki still finished with his lowest reception total since Week 2. Next up for the Penn State product and his teammates is a matchup versus the Texans' Cover-2 scheme, which does give up a fair amount of production to tight ends.
Oct 24, 2021
Records TD in close loss
Gesicki recorded seven of eight targets for 85 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' 30-28 loss to the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The fourth-year tight end co-led the Dolphins in receptions and targets while pacing the team in receiving yards. Gesicki recorded his second touchdown of the year in the latter portion of the third quarter, bringing in a six-yard scoring toss from Tua Tagovailoa with 5:18 remaining in the period. This was yet another encouraging performance from Gesicki after he'd posted an 8-115 line on nine targets against the Jaguars in London in Week 6, and he'll look to keep the momentum going in a tough Week 8 road battle against the Bills.
Oct 17, 2021
Tops 100 receiving yards
Gesicki recorded eight receptions on nine targets for 115 yards in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was heavily involved throughout the game and contributed three receptions of 20 yards or more. He benefited from the Dolphins taking to the air 47 times, though only Jaylen Waddle commanded more targets for the team. That volume may be difficult for Gesicki to carry forward once DeVante Parker (soulder) is able to return to the field, though he has topped 50 receiving yards in three of his last four games.
Oct 12, 2021
Held in check by Bucs
Gesicki secured four of seven targets for 43 yards during Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki recorded his third game of the season with double-digit average yards per reception. The athletic tight end has drawn at least six targets in each of the last three games, and it's possible he could have Tua Tagovailoa (ribs) back in the lineup in time to face the Jaguars in Week 6.
Oct 3, 2021
Makes late TD grab in loss
Gesicki brought in five of six targets for 57 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' 27-17 loss to the Colts on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The fourth-year tight end led the Dolphins in receptions while checking in second to DeVante Parker in receiving yards. Gesicki also recorded his first touchdown reception of the season on a one-yard catch in the fourth quarter, albeit too late to make any difference in the outcome for the Dolphins. Gesicki now has a 15-143-1 line through the last two games, and he'll look to continue cultivating his connection with Jacoby Brissett in what will likely be the quarterback's final start for the time being in place of Tua Tagovailoa (ribs) during a Week 6 road matchup versus the Buccaneers.
Sep 26, 2021
Leading receiver in OT loss
Gesicki caught 10 of 12 targets for 86 yards in Sunday's 31-28 overtime loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
The tight end finished second on the Dolphins to Jaylen Waddle in catches and targets, but he outpaced the rookie by nearly 30 yards to lead the team. With backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett showing little ability to stretch the field, Gesicki could be in line for a big uptick in his volume and production as long as Tua Tagovailoa (ribs) remains sidelined, including Week 4 at home against the Colts.
Sep 19, 2021
Three catches in Week 2
Gesicki caught three of six targets for 41 yards in Sunday's 35-0 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was third in both targets and receiving yards behind wide receivers DeVante Parker and Jaylen Waddle. It was encouraging to see the 25-year-old tight end get more involved after failing to record a catch in the season opener, but Gesicki's struggles as a blocker will likely continue to limit his usage in Week 3 against the Raiders and beyond. Jacoby Brissett played most of the game under center following Tua Tagovailoa's rib injury, so it remains to be seen who will be throwing to Gesicki moving forward.
Sep 13, 2021
Limited usage in opener
Gesicki was targeted twice and held without a catch in Sunday's season-opening 17-16 win over the Patriots, Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki logged just 21 snaps in the contest, while Durham Smythe was out there for 38 and caught one pass (on two targets) for nine yards). Schad suggests that Gesicki's limited usage was in part due to the Dolphins starting a rookie (Liam Eichenberg) at left tackle in place of Austin Jackson, meaning that blocking was a prime consideration for TE snap allocation in Week 1. Looking ahead, with Jackson presumably on track to step into his usual role this coming weekend, it wouldn't surprise us to see Gesicki more involved in the team's passing game versus the Bills in Week 2.
Aug 21, 2021
Impressive on two grabs
Gesicki secured both targets for 43 yards in the Dolphins' 37-17 preseason win over the Falcons on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki checked in second to Mack Hollins in receiving yardage among non-running backs for the night. The 25-year-old endured a stint on the reserve/COVID-19 list earlier in camp, but as Saturday's performance demonstrated, he seems back to his usual form. Gesicki should once again play an important role in the passing game in 2021 after logging 174 total targets over the last two seasons, but the team's offseason wide receiver additions and the return of Albert Wilson after an opt-out season could ding the fourth-year tight end's opportunities some.
Aug 10, 2021
Back from COVID list
The Dolphins reinstated Gesicki from the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was one of multiple Miami tight ends placed on the list Aug. 1, but he looks like he'll be able to resume practicing fully again after spending just over a week away from the team. Due to the missed time, Gesicki's reps could be limited in Saturday's preseason opener in Chicago, if he isn't held out of the contest entirely.
Aug 1, 2021
Lands on COVID list
Gesicki (undisclosed) was placed on the COVID-19 list Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach George Godsey tested positive for the virus, resulting in Gesicki, Cethan Carter and Adam Shaheen landing on the COVID list as apparent close contacts. Gesicki could make a relatively quick return to the field as long as he continues to test negative for the virus.
Jul 31, 2021
Dealing with injury
Gesicki (undisclosed) isn't practicing Saturday for medical reasons, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Details about Gesicki's injury remain unknown at this point, but more details will likely surface in the coming days. The starting tight end will look to get healthy before Miami kicks off preseason play Aug. 14 against the Bears.
Jul 30, 2021
Showing chemistry with Tua
Gesicki has been QB Tua Tagoviloa's "go-to receiver" early in camp, Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
The report also notes that the young QB has thrown a lot of passes to running backs, in part because veteran wide receivers DeVante Parker, Will Fuller and Preston Williams are out with injuries. Gesicki gets a nice opportunity to build chemistry with Tagovailoa, but further down the line, the tight end could face tough competition for targets from a deep WR group that added Fuller and sixth overall pick Jaylen Waddle in the offseason. Gesicki is in the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, coming off a 2020 campaign with career highs for catches (53), yards (703) and TDs (six), though he actually saw four fewer targets (85) than in 2019.
Jan 4, 2021
Five catches to end solid season
Gesicki caught five of ten targets for 47 yards during Sunday's 56-26 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki drew his third highest target total of the season during Sunday's blowout divisional loss, but he wasn't able to do much with his volume on a day that Tua Tagovailoa struggled mightily. The 25-year-old tight end and Tagovailoa will benefit from a full offseason to build up additional chemistry, as Gesicki is no doubt primed to return as one of Miami's pivotal offensive weapons in 2021. Through 15 appearances in 2020, Gesicki notched career-high marks in terms of catches (53), yards (703) and touchdowns (six) while drawing 85 targets.
Dec 26, 2020
Seven targets in narrow win
Gesicki secured four of seven targets for 54 yards during Saturday's 26-25 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki returned to action after just a one-game absence due to a shoulder injury, and he immediately returned to his role as Miami's top tight end. He came in second only to Myles Gaskin in terms of receiving with DeVante Parker (hamstring) sidelined, while Adam Shaheen and Durham Smythe combined for just three targets. If Parker were to miss Week 17's divisional matchup against the Bills as well, Gesicki would once again stand to see an uptick in targets (and perhaps red zone looks).
Dec 26, 2020
Returns to action Saturday
Gesicki (shoulder) is listed as active Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki injured his right shoulder Week 14 and missed one game as a result, but now that he's back in action he'll look to extend has TD streak to four games against a Raiders defense that has allowed the 14th-most touchdown passes (24) this season.
Dec 24, 2020
Listed as questionable
Gesicki (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against the Raiders after being listed as a limited practice participant this week.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki logged back-to-back limited sessions Thursday and Friday last week before being made inactive this past Sunday against the Patriots. If he's limited or out Saturday night, Durham Smythe and Adam Shaheen would once again be in line for added tight end work in Week 16.
Dec 23, 2020
Limited again Wednesday
Gesicki (shoulder) was limited in Wednesday's practice, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Practicing in a limited capacity wasn't enough to garner Gesicki clearance for Week 15, so his status for Saturday's road game against the Raiders remains murky. The top tight end may need to upgrade to a full session Thursday in order retake the field in Las Vegas. Durham Smythe and Adam Shaheen will be in line for increased roles again if Gesicki can't go.
Dec 22, 2020
Starts week with limited practice
Gesicki (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant at Tuesday's practice, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki closed Week 15 with back-to-back limited practices, but it wasn't enough for him to gain clearance ahead of Sunday's loss to the Patriots. While it's at least an encouraging sign Gesicki was able to maintain that level of practice activity to begin Week 16, he'll presumably need to upgrade to full participation by Thursday to avoid taking an injury designation into Saturday's game in Las Vegas. While Gesicki was sidelined Week 15, Durham Smythe (five catches for 40 yards) and Adam Shaheen (one catch for 15 yards) split the reps at tight end.
Dec 20, 2020
Inactive Sunday
Gesicki (shoulder) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
With Gesicki inactive, Adam Shaheen and Durham Smythe are in line to handle added tight end snaps Sunday, though neither of the two profile as high-percentage fantasy lineup options in Week 15.
Dec 20, 2020
Has a chance to play
Gesicki (shoulder) will work out prior to Sunday's game against the Patriots before a call on his Week 15 status is made, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
While there was previously some pessimism about the tight end's availability, Rapoport suggests that Gesicki "improved enough during the week to have a real chance of playing" versus New England. The Dolphins kick off at 1:00 ET, so those considering Gesicki in their fantasy lineups will know what his status is prior to the first wave of Sunday kickoffs.
Dec 18, 2020
Officially questionable
Gesicki (shoulder) is questionable for Sunday's game against New England, Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was spotted catching practice at Friday's practice, his second consecutive limited session, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. Coach Brian Flores said that Gesicki is "is doing everything he can to get out there," per Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, but a final word on the athletic tight end's status could realistically come down to a game-time decision. Adam Shaheen and Durham Smythe will handle expanded roles if Gesicki can't play.
Dec 17, 2020
Listed as limited Thursday
Gesicki (shoulder) was listed as limited in Thursday's walk-through practice, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While Gesicki's listed upgrade is a positive indicator, it remains to be seen if he'll be cleared to play Sunday against the Patriots. Added clarity on his Week 15 status will arrive no later than Friday, but if he's unable to suit up this weekend, Adam Shaheen and Durham Smythe would see expanded duties in Miami's offense Sunday.
Dec 16, 2020
Misses practice, as expected
Gesicki (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki is expected to miss time due to the shoulder injury he picked up in the fourth quarter of last weekend's loss to the Chiefs, so it doesn't come as any sort of surprise to see him absent from practice. The results of Gesicki's MRI should be disclosed prior to Sunday's game against the Patriots, but all signs currently point to Adam Shaheen and Durham Smythe splitting the workload at tight end.
Dec 14, 2020
Expected to miss time, pending MRI
The Dolphins fear Gesicki (shoulder) will miss at least one game, Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was injured in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 33-27 loss to the Chiefs, finishing with five catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns. He appeared to be dealing with a lot of pain when he came off the field, and he wasn't able to rejoin the game. An MRI scheduled for Monday should give the Dolphins a better idea of how much time Gesicki will miss.
Dec 13, 2020
Hurts shoulder Sunday
Gesicki exited Sunday's game against the Chiefs with an apparent right shoulder injury, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki was tackled awkwardly near the sidelines, and he went down in clear pain before going directly to the locker room. Before his departure, Gesicki caught five passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns. It's yet another hit to the Dolphins' receiving weapons, as both DeVante Parker and Jakeem Grant exited with leg injuries Sunday.
Dec 6, 2020
High-volume day in win
Gesicki brought in nine of 11 targets for 88 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' 19-7 win over the Bengals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The third-year tight end led the Dolphins in receptions, receiving yards and targets on the afternoon, with his catch tally also serving as a season high. Gesicki's fourth touchdown of the season -- his second in as many games -- capped off Miami's first second-half drive and was an ideal bonus to what was already a very strong effort for the Penn State product in both seasonal and daily PPR formats. Gesicki may be leaned on heavily once again in a Week 14 showdown against the Chiefs that figures to feature an aggressive offensive game plan for coach Brian Flores' squad.
Nov 29, 2020
Ends scoring drought
Gesicki caught two of five targets for 35 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 20-3 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki salvaged his fantasy day with a score in the second quarter (his first since Week 3), but he's now logged five consecutive games with under 50 receiving yards. Still, the third-year tight end has also now drawn 15 targets over the last three weeks, so his involvement on offense has been encouraging. Whether Tua Tagovailoa (thumb) gets healthy in time to return Week 13 versus Cincinnati or Ryan Fitzpatrick draws another start, Gesicki's favorable matchup will make him a tempting streaming option.
Nov 23, 2020
Modest numbers in Denver
Gesicki caught four of five targets for 43 yards during Sunday's 20-13 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki's actually notched his third highest yardage total of the season in Denver, which is emblematic of the fact that outside of two 'boom' games (Weeks 2 and 5) the athletic tight end hasn't been too productive for fantasy purposes. Still, Gesicki has now gone three straight games with at least 40 yards and four targets, so he appears to have at least begun to manufacture a stable floor. He'll get a favorable road matchup against the Jets in Week 12.
Nov 15, 2020
Pair of robust grabs in win
Gesicki secured two of five targets for 40 yards in the Dolphins' 29-21 win over the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The athletic tight end notched receptions of 23 and 17 yards on his way to posting the second-highest receiving yardage tally for the Dolphins on the afternoon. Gesicki has shown good chemistry with rookie signal caller Tua Tagovailoa thus far, posting a 5-82 line nine targets in the quarterback's first two starts. Gesicki will look to play an even bigger role in a Week 11 road battle against the Broncos.
Nov 8, 2020
Catches three of four targets
Gesicki caught three of four targets for 42 yards during Sunday's 34-31 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki finished third on the team in targets and receiving yards as he came through with his best output since Week 5. His long gain of 19 yards was his third-longest of the season and he recorded multiple catches for just the second time in his last six games. Although Gesicki's fantasy production has been rather sporadic this season, he could benefit from Tua Tagovailoa's ascendence moving forward. His next chance to produce will come Sunday against a Chargers team that has been susceptible to opposing tight ends this season.
Nov 2, 2020
Barely produces versus Rams
Gesicki caught one of two targets for eight yards during Sunday's 28-17 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki's lack of offensive involvement was in large part by design, as Miami's defense and special teams both managed to account for touchdowns, and Los Angeles' offense wasn't able to move consistently at any point. It's worth noting, however, that this was Gesicki's fourth game of the year with one or fewer catches. Until such time as he proves to have established a consistent connection with rookie signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa, Gesicki can be considered a boom-or-bust fantasy option.
Oct 19, 2020
Held without a catch by Jets
Gesicki failed to secure either of his two targets during Sunday's 24-0 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki's total lack of involvement came, to the beguilement of fantasy managers, on a day where fellow tight ends Adam Shaheen (3-51-1) and Durham Smythe (1-2-1) both got into the end zone. The third-year pro now has four games this season with thirty or less receiving yards compared to just two breakout performances (130 yards and a score Week 2 and 91 yards Week 5). Gesicki is quietly shaping up to be a boom-or-bust fantasy option, though it's also worth noting that the Dolphins never had to play catch up during Sunday's blowout divisional win.
Oct 11, 2020
Produces 91 yards in victory
Gesicki caught five of six targets for 91 yards during Sunday's 43-17 win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki finished second on the team in targets and receiving yards while posting his second-best totals of the season in both categories. He averaged an impressive 18.2 yards per reception and pleased fantasy owners by bouncing back after totaling just two catches for 30 yards over his previous two games. Gesicki will look to build on this productive outing in a seemingly favorable matchup next Sunday against the Broncos.
Oct 6, 2020
Shut down by Seahawks
Gesicki caught one of three targets for 15 yards during Sunday's 31-23 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki has now been limited to just one catch for 15 yards in back-to-back games, having drawn three targets in both. He ran 36 routes Sunday, so a lack of playing time wasn't to blame for the disappointing statline, but rather that Seattle's defensive coverage encouraged Ryan Fitzpatrick to hone in on DeVante Parker (12 targets) and Isaiah Ford (10 targets) in the passing game. Gesicki faces tough odds of bouncing back Week 5 against a 49ers squad that recently shut down Evan Engram and Zach Ertz.
Sep 25, 2020
Back in end zone Thursday
Gesicki caught one of three targets for a 15-yard touchdown in the Dolphins' 31-13 win over the Jaguars on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The third-year tight end was nowhere near as prolific as four days prior against the Bills, but Gesicki still rewarded fantasy managers with his second touchdown reception of the season. The Penn State product may see his reception volume fluctuate depending on game flow, but based on his strong second-half finish in 2019 and early returns this season, it's clear Gesicki's fantasy prospects are on the right trajectory. He'll look to play a bigger role in a Week 4 home matchup against the Seahawks on Sunday, Oct. 4.
Sep 20, 2020
Explodes for career-best effort
Gesicki secured eight of 11 targets for 130 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' 31-28 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
During his rookie season in former head coach Adam Gase's offense, Gesicki bore little resemblance to the player that put up a combined 105 receptions, 1,242 yards and 14 touchdown receptions over his final two college seasons at Penn State. However, the third-year tight end began to pick up steam in the second half of last season, and Sunday, he single-handedly dispelled the notion that tight ends are doomed to minimal roles in coordinator Chan Gailey's scheme. Gesicki paced Miami in receptions, receiving yards and targets, and his one score came with 49 seconds remaining to bring the Dolphins within three points. It remains to be seen if Gesicki's stellar performance is an outlier, but he'll have a chance to quickly follow it up in a Week 3 road matchup against the Jaguars on Thursday night.

Held to three catches in opener
Gesiki secured three of five targets for 30 yards during Sunday's 21-11 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki's lackluster Week 1 production was in line with the rest of Miami's receiving corps, as no pass catcher managed to hit the 50-yard mark against New England. Nonetheless, it's encouraging that the third-year pro did account for every target thrown to the tight end position, with Durham Smythe mixing in as a blocker. Gesicki always possesses weekly touchdown upside, but he looks like a low-floor fantasy option heading into a Week 2 tilt against Buffalo's stout defense.

Sheds injury tag
Gesicki (glute) does not have an injury designation for Sunday's season opener against the Patriots, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki put forth a full practice Friday after having begun the week with two straight limited sessions. He's set to take the field against New England on Sunday and operate as Miami's top receiving tight end, with Durham Smythe primarily mixing in as a blocker.

Takes field Friday
Gesicki (glute) took part in Friday's practice, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not clear how much work Gesicki got in at Friday's session, but he was on the field for the third day in a row. The Dolphins will reveal Gesicki's status for Week 1 when they release their final injury report of the week.

Turns in limited practice showing
Gesicki (glute) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Josh Tolentino of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
For the second straight day, Gesicki's reps were capped on account of the upper-leg issue. The Dolphins have yet to suggest Gesicki is in any real danger of missing Sunday's season opener at New England, but the tight end will likely need to put in a full workout Friday to avoid carrying an injury designation into the weekend.

Limited by injury Wednesday
Gesicki was limited in Wednesday's practice due to a glute injury, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki appears to have picked up the injury over the weekend, as he had previously been held out of Saturday's practice. The third-year tight end will have two more chances to practice fully and shed his injury tag before Sunday's season opener against New England, so there's not yet any reason for real concern about his Week 1 availability. With DeVante Parker (hamstring) and Preston Williams (knee) both also beginning the week as limited participants, it'll be worth Miami's entire top trio of pass catchers.

Back at practice Tuesday
Gesicki (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki sat out Saturday's practice session due to an undisclosed issue, but he appears to have gotten the all-clear for Sept. 13's season opener against New England. The third-year pro was listed as the No. 2 tight end behind Durham Smythe on Miami's first unofficial depth chart, per Wolfe, but Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post notes that Gesicki nonetheless remains locked in to the majority of receiving work at the position. Gesicki put together a late-season breakout in 2019 and concluded the campaign with 51 catches for 570 yards and five touchdowns, while Smythe has never managed 100 receiving yards in a single season. As such, Smythe's position atop the depth chart primarily seems like a hint that he could be in line for a heavy blocking workload Week 1.

Listed as No. 2 tight end
Gesicki is listed as the No. 2 tight end behind Durham Smythe on Miami's first unofficial depth chart, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki remains in line to handle the majority of receiving work at tight end for Miami, but his position on the first unofficial depth chart of the season could be an indication that the team intends to heavily utilize Smythe as a blocker during Sept. 13's season-opener against the Patriots. During last season's Week 17 finale against New England, Gesicki had four catches for 34 yards and a score. With DeVante Parker expected to again be shadowed by Stephon Gilmore, Gesicki could once more be in line to see beneficial matchups.

Eager for advantageous matchups
Gesicki said Thursday that having DeVante Parker and Preston Williams (knee) on the outside will allow him to see more beneficial matchups in 2020, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Gesicki should certainly benefit from interior matchups that will let him take advantage of his rare athletic gifts, assuming Parker and Williams are each able to build upon the relative success both enjoyed in 2019. For his part, Gesicki was serviceable last season while logging 51 catches for 570 yards and five scores, but his 57.3 percent catch rate and lack of broken tackles are representative of the fact that he rarely exceeded expectations. Of course, Gesicki was considered a raw prospect coming out of Penn State, and at arguably the most difficult position to adjust to at the NFL level. If he's able to take a step forward Year 3, Gesicki could be well positioned for a breakout campaign. The 24-year-old could even potentially transform into a safety blanket for Tua Tagovailoa, if the quarterback eventually takes the field and defaults to the usual rookie tendency of leaning on his tight end.
