Nick Chubb Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Bills vs Texans game on Thursday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 17, 2025
Smallest role of season
Chubb rushed three times for 17 yards and failed to bring in either of his two targets in the Texans' 16-13 win over the Titans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb and backfield mate Woody Marks had the biggest gulf in workloads yet Sunday, with the former finishing with a season-low carry total. Chubb had also logged a modest five carries in Week 10 against the Jaguars, so he may set to play a complementary role to Marks down the stretch of regular season.

Takes back seat in Week 10
Chubb carried the ball five times for 47 yards and caught his only target for five yards in Sunday's 36-29 win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Rookie Woody Marks led the Texans' backfield with 16 touches to Chubb's six, but the veteran was still productive on his limited volume. It was the third time this season Chubb's failed to get double-digit carries, as he continues to fall behind Marks in the pecking order. Both backs could pop for big numbers, no matter how the workload is split, in Week 11 against the Titans.

Ready for Week 10
Chubb (foot) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game versus the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out Wednesday's practice due to a foot injury, Chubb progressed to limited Thursday and full to wrap up Week 10 prep, paving the way for him to continue to be a part of the Texans backfield this weekend. He's ceded more snaps to fellow RB Woody Marks in three games since Houston's Week 6 bye, but Chubb still has earned 36 touches (for 114 total yards and no TDs) to Marks' 38 touches (for 173 total yards and one TD) during that stretch. Expect the near-even split of reps between them to be maintained Sunday.
Nov 6, 2025
Logs limited practice Thursday
Chubb (foot) was limited at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was a non-participant in Wednesday's session, but his return to Thursday's practice bodes well for his chances of playing Sunday against the Jaguars. Friday's injury report will reveal whether the running back is able to practice fully to close the week, and in turn whether or not he carries an injury designation into the weekend. If available versus Jacksonville, Chubb would be in line to continue to work in a backfield time-share with Woody Marks.
Nov 6, 2025
Back at practice
Chubb (foot) returned to practice Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing Wednesday's session, Chubb's return to practice a day later is an encouraging development regarding his chances of being available Sunday against the Jaguars. The Texans' upcoming injury report is slated to reveal Chubb's official participation level Thursday.
Nov 5, 2025
Misses practice with foot injury
Chubb was held out of Wednesday's practice due to a foot injury, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
When reporters asked about Chubb's absence, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans simply responded, "we'll see as the week goes on." There was no clear sign of trouble during Sunday's 18-15 loss to the Broncos, with Chubb taking 11 carries for 34 yards while playing 36 percent of snaps on offense, including a 40 percent snap share and two carries during the fourth quarter. Woody Marks will likely get more playing time if Chubb isn't available Sunday against Jacksonville, but Dare Ogunbowale, Dameon Pierce and British Brooks could also mix in for a few snaps/touches.
Nov 5, 2025
Not practicing Wednesday
Chubb (undisclosed) wasn't spotted at practice Wednesday, DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Texans' upcoming injury report will clarify what caused Chubb's absence from the session, but with regard to the running back's status for Sunday's game against the Jaguars, coach DeMeco Ryans said "we'll see as the week goes on." If Chubb is limited or out versus Jacksonville, Woody Marks would be in line for added touches, with Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale and British Brooks also in Houston's Week 10 backfield mix.
Nov 2, 2025
Makes little impact in Week 9
Chubb carried the ball 11 times for 34 yards in Sunday's 18-15 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
The veteran split the backfield workload with rookie Woody Marks, and while Chubb led the Texans in rushing, it was still a tepid showing. The former Brown has yet to top 61 rushing yards in a game this season, and while he's gotten double-digit carries in six of eight contests, there have been very few flashes of his pre-injury form. Houston could lean more heavily on its ground game in Week 10 against the Jaguars however, if C.J. Stroud (concussion) remains sidelined and Davis Mills is under center.
Oct 26, 2025
Outperformed by Marks in win
Chubb rushed 17 times for 56 yards and brought in both targets for 13 yards in the Texans' 26-15 win over the 49ers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb received six more carries than rookie backfield mate Woody Marks, but the latter outgained the veteran by six yards despite the lesser workload. Marks also stood out by doubling Chubb's reception total and gaining 36 more receiving yards, but head coach DeMeco Ryans appears intent on keeping Chubb involved as both a runner and receiver. Nevertheless, with a middling 4.0 yards-per-carry average, Chubb could eventually swap places in the backfield pecking order with Marks.
Oct 21, 2025
Struggles in loss Monday
Chubb rushed five times for 16 yards and caught one of three targets for a loss of five yards in Monday's 27-19 loss to Seattle.
ANALYSIS
Head coach DeMeco Ryans proclaimed that he wanted to establish the run against the Seahawks, but he proceeded to give his veteran starter five carries in a game that was never quite out of reach. Chubb didn't do himself any favors, averaging a season-worst 3.2 yards per carry in the loss. Rookie Woody Marks (10-15-0) didn't fare much better on the ground, but he did catch C.J. Stroud's lone touchdown pass of the evening. Chubb had been providing a high floor for those in deeper formats prior to Sunday's dud, so it could be worth giving him another shot against San Francisco's injury-riddled defense on Sunday.
Oct 18, 2025
In line for busy Monday
Chubb could have a busy Week 7 against Seattle on Monday, if the Texans can establish the running game, as head coach DeMeco Ryans said earlier in the week, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports. "When you can run the ball, you can sustain drives," Ryans said. "That's the key. That allows (offensive coordinator Nick) Caley to be able to open up the playbook and call whatever he's installed that particular week."
ANALYSIS
Establishing the ground attack won't be easy against the Seahawks, who have allowed the second-fewest rushing yards per game (79.0 ypg). Chubb hasn't looked like the former All-Pro he once was in Cleveland, but he has been effective at times. And rookie Woody Marks has emerged as a potential playmaker out of the backfield. Chubb is coming off his best game of the season in Week 5, when rushed for a season-high 61 yards and a touchdown in a win over the Ravens.
Oct 5, 2025
Out-touches Marks
Chubb rushed the ball 11 times for 61 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 44-10 win over the Ravens. He did not catch his only target.
ANALYSIS
Chubb looked to be losing his grip as the clear leader of the Houston backfield after Week 4, though he out-touched rookie Woody Marks 11-7 in Sunday's blowout win. Despite Baltimore playing without several of their run-stopping defenders, Chubb was held in check for much of the day. However, he broke loose for a 27-yard touchdown scamper early in the third quarter to account for nearly half of his yardage. The positive game script likely benefitted Chubb relative to Marks, but it appears clear that Chubb will continue to retain a role in the offense in the short term.
Sep 28, 2025
Losing work to Marks
Chubb rushed the ball 13 times for 47 yards in Sunday's 26-0 win over the Titans. He added two receptions for 15 yards.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was the first running back to get a touch for Houston, but he alternated drives with Woody Marks in the first half before the duo shared drives and split work evenly in the final two quarters. Chubb was effective for long stretches of the game, tallying six carries or receptions of at least six yards. However, he was out-touched by Marks for the first time this season and could continue to cede work as the season progresses.
Sep 21, 2025
Logs 12 touches in loss
Chubb rushed nine times for 38 yards and secured three of four targets for two yards in the Texans' 17-10 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb saw a modest workload on the ground but still led the Texans in rush attempts on the afternoon. The veteran back has been solid in the early going now almost two years removed from his devastating early-season knee injury in 2023, with Chubb averaging 4.2 yards per carry and scoring a rushing TD on his 34 rush attempts to date. The veteran should continue to share early-down work with rookie Woody Marks during a Week 4 road matchup against the Ravens next Sunday.
Sep 15, 2025
Hits pay dirt Monday
Chubb carried the ball 12 times for 43 yards and a touchdown while catching both of his targets for 29 yards in Monday's 20-19 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was having trouble finding running room for most of this contest before finally ripping off a 25-yard touchdown scamper late in the fourth quarter. The 29-year-old continued dominating Houston's backfield touches sans Joe Mixon (foot/ankle), with rookie Woody Marks' three carries checking in a distant second behind the veteran starter. Chubb is looking like a solid flex candidate in Week 3 heading into a potential soft matchup against the Jaguars on Sunday.
Sep 7, 2025
Leads backfield with 60 yards
Chubb took 13 carries for 60 yards while failing to bring in his only target in Sunday's 14-9 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was the Texans' lead back as expected Sunday, receiving 10 more carries than the next running back on the depth chart. The 29-year-old flashed glimpses of his former All-Pro form with a healthy average of 4.6 yards per carry. Catastrophic injuries derailed the end of Chubb's tenure with Cleveland, but a clean bill of health could result in a career renaissance with Houston. With Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) still without a timetable to return, Chubb is worth a look against the Buccaneers next Monday if he went overlooked in drafts.
Sep 7, 2025
Slated to open season as bell cow
The Texans envision Chubb serving as their "bell-cow running back" in Sunday's season opener versus the Rams, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) racked up 12 touchdowns and 1,325 yards in 12 games as the Texans' lead back in 2024, but he'll miss at least the first four contests of 2025 after being placed on the reserve/non-football injury list Aug. 26. With Mixon out of the picture for at least the first quarter of the season, Chubb looks poised to have an extended runway to lead the Houston backfield. Chubb's final season in Cleveland was cut short by a foot fracture that he sustained Dec. 15, but he avoided surgery and has reportedly looked healthy and effective in training camp after joining Houston on a one-year deal in June. When available, Chubb has proven to be one of the NFL's most efficient runners, though he averaged a career-worst 3.3 yards per carry over his eight games in Cleveland a season ago. He could be in line for some improvement now that he's further removed from the major knee surgery he required in September 2023, and while he looks poised to dominate the early down work out of the Houston backfield, Chubb
Aug 25, 2025
In line for early-season role
With Joe Mixon (foot) slated to begin the season on the reserve/non-football injury list, Chubb appears to be in line for an expanded role to start the season.
ANALYSIS
The Texans will make Mixon's placement on reserve/NFI official Tuesday. Mixon hasn't practiced at all this summer and will now miss at least the first four games of the regular season, leaving the door open for Chubb, rookie Woody Marks and veterans Dameon Pierce and Dare Ogunbowale to jockey for backfield work. Chubb was rested for the preseason finale this past weekend, suggesting he's the leader for the early-down role over Pierce. Marks and Ogunbowale profile more as pass-catching backs, though Marks certainly could grow into a larger role. Chubb has played in just 10 regular-season games over the last two seasons due to yet another severe knee injury, and he looked sluggish on 102 carries in 2024, turning them into 332 yards (3.3 yards per carry) and three touchdowns with Cleveland. He also doesn't catch many passes, muting his fantasy appeal. Fourth-round rookie Marks comes at a cheaper cost in drafts and is five years younger with less wear and tear on his body.
Aug 23, 2025
Rested for preseason finale
Chubb won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Lions, which could suggest he's on track for a Week 1 start versus the Rams, according to Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle.
ANALYSIS
Dameon Pierce, Woody Marks and Dare Ogunbowale are suited up for Saturday's exhibition. Assuming there's not an unreported injury at play, this is a good sign for Chubb's Week 1 role projection in the event Joe Mixon (foot) is absent or limited. Chubb made one appearance this preseason, playing with the first-string offense last week and taking five carries for 25 yards (plus one catch for four yards). Pierce, meanwhile, is set for his first appearance of the preseason after missing some time with a quadriceps injury.
Aug 16, 2025
Encouraging effort in preseason win
Chubb rushed five times for 25 yards and brought in his only target for four yards in the Texans' 20-3 preseason win over the Panthers on Saturday afternoon.
ANALYSIS
The first-team offense was out there for two drives Saturday, and Chubb utilized the opportunity to showcase encouraging form following consecutive injury-plagued seasons. The 2018 second-round pick of the Browns appeared to have more spring in his step than during his lackluster 2024 swan song in Cleveland, and with each passing day that Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) remains on the NFI list, Chubb appears likelier to open the regular season as the Texans' lead back while sharing the backfield with Dameon Pierce and rookie Woody Marks, at minimum.
Aug 15, 2025
Expected to play Saturday
Chubb (concussion), who handled the bulk of first-team reps during joint practices with the Panthers on Thursday, is expected to suit up for Saturday's preseason game against Carolina, Sam Warren of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb, who has now fully cleared the concussion protocol, has handled the bulk of first-team reps throughout training camp with joe Mixon (lower leg) still on the active/non-football injury list. He's split those reps with Dameon Pierce, who was held out of Thursday's joint practice and appears on track to get a rest day Saturday. Chubb made a handful of explosive plays at practice Thursday, an encouraging development given that he's coming off back-to-back season-ending injuries. A strong showing versus Carolina would boost Chubb's standing in Houston's backfield, wherein he, Pierce, and rookie fourth-round pick Woody Marks are all working to make their case for the Week 1 starting gig, in the event that Mixon isn't ready to go.
Aug 12, 2025
Sheds non-contact jersey
Chubb (concussion) practiced without a non-contact jersey Tuesday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
This means Chubb has either made it through concussion protocol or is in the final stage. He hit his head during practice last Tuesday and missed the next few days, but he returned Monday as a limited participant and now seems ready for full participation. With Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) uncertain for the start of the season, Chubb is competing with Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale and Woody Marks for backfield roles.
Aug 11, 2025
Back at practice Monday
Chubb (concussion) returned to practice Monday, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that Chubb, who went through the NFL's concussion protocol after taking a hard hit to the head this past Tuesday, sported red (non-contact) jersey in his return to practice. Assuming no setbacks, the veteran running could see some snaps in Saturday's preseason game against the Panthers. Chubb's return to the mix is of particular import to the Texans, given that incumbent starting RB Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) remains sidelined.
Aug 9, 2025
Not slated to play Saturday
Chubb (head) is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb missed a couple of practices after taking a hard hit to the head Tuesday, but he may have been rested anyway Saturday, with the Texans holding a number of other key players out. Also not in line to see action against Minnesota are QB C.J. Stroud, RB Dameon Pierce and TE Dalton Schultz.
Aug 7, 2025
Misses Thursday's practice
Chubb (head) didn't practice Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Wilson, Chubb also missed Wednesday's session after taking a hard shot to the head Tuesday and then leaving practice and walking out with a trainer under his own power. Following back-to-back absences, Chubb doesn't seem especially likely to play in Saturday's preseason contest against the Vikings.
Jul 26, 2025
Opportunity knocks
Chubb could earn the starting job during training camp after Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Joe Mixon (foot/ankle) is facing an extended absence.
ANALYSIS
Chubb is almost two years removed from his catastrophic knee injury that included ACL, MCL and meniscus tears. The 2018 second-round pick played in eight regular-season games last season and rushed 102 times for 332 yards (3.3 YPC) and three touchdowns. None of his carries went for 20 or more yards. However, the Texans are hoping he can return to form with another offseason of training under his belt, and the opportunity is clear now that Mixon is in danger of missing regular-season games, although that will be determined closer to Week 1. Rookie fourth-round pick Woody Marks should also get in the mix, especially in passing situations.
Jun 9, 2025
Inks one-year deal with Texans
Chubb and the Texans officially agreed to a one-year contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb's 2023 campaign was cut short by ACL, MCL and meniscus tears in his left knee, and upon his return Week 7 of last season, he topped out at 59 rushing yards among his eight appearances before suffering a fracture in his left foot Week 15, ending the year on injured reserve. Prior to those injuries, he had put together four straight 1,000-yard seasons on the ground for the Browns, but with Joe Mixon (lower body) entrenched as Houston's top running back for 2025, Chubb likely will be relegated to a complementary role while potentially competing for reps with Dameon Pierce and rookie fourth-rounder Woody Marks, considering Chubb's deal has a base salary of $2.5 million.
Jun 8, 2025
Expected to join Houston
The Texans plan to sign Chubb on Monday pending a successful physical, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb suffered a season-ending foot fracture in mid-December, and he became a free agent after his contract with the Browns officially expired in March. The 29-year-old did not undergo surgery this offseason, so Monday's physical will provide some important clarity as the Texans look to bolster their rushing game. Chubb also missed the first six games last season while recovering from a torn left ACL suffered in September of 2023. The four-time Pro Bowler's production plummeted last season with the least efficient campaign of his career, logging 102 carries for 332 yards and three touchdowns. He's now set to join a running back room headlined by another notable veteran in Joe Mixon, who tallied 245 carries for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns during his first season in Houston last year. The Texans have last year's No. 2 running back, Dameon Pierce, along with rookie fourth-rounder Woody Marks, still on the roster as well. Given the wear and tear Chubb has sustained over the last couple of years, and pending a s

Door closed on Browns reunion?
Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry said Friday that the possibility of re-signing Chubb (foot) is "increasingly unlikely" after the team added two running backs in the 2025 NFL Draft, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Berry said he's "never going to rule out [Chubb]" and that he "would expect him to take another step being a year removed from the knee injury," but he made clear that "a return is less likely, at least in the short term, with us right now." In his statement, Berry specifically noted rookies Quinshon Judkins (a second-round pick) and Dylan Sampson (fourth round), as well as incumbent veteran Jerome Ford, as reasons a reunion with Chubb is currently off the table. Just as notably, Berry said that Chubb is fully recovered from the broken foot that forced him to miss the final three games of 2024. The 29-year-old running back struggled in his return from a left ACL tear last season, averaging a career-low 3.3 yards per carry across eight appearances before landing on IR in Week 15 due to his foot fracture. He'll work to regain some of his prior explosiveness and find a new opportunity to compete this offseason.
Apr 23, 2025
No intention of retiring
Chubb (foot) doesn't plan to retire and may sign with a team after the NFL Draft, NFL.com's Kevin Patra reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb is back to squatting over 500 pounds, which suggests he's progressed as expected after suffering a season-ending foot fracture in mid-December. He didn't need surgery but still doesn't seem to have generated much interest in free agency, with teams likely concerned he'll never come close to his prior explosiveness after suffering a multi-ligament knee injury in Sept. 2023 (to the same left knee he damaged in college). The 29-year-old running back isn't likely to get much guaranteed money but should at least find an opportunity to compete for carries at some point this spring/summer. The obvious fit right now is a return to Cleveland, where Jerome Ford sits atop the depth chart ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Feb 25, 2025
To hit open market
Browns general manager Andrew Berry said Tuesday at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine that he expects Chubb (foot) to test free agency this offseason, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year March 12, and it sounds as though Cleveland won't expend significant effort to re-sign the veteran running back. A four-time Pro Bowler, Chubb missed the first six games of the 2024 campaign while recovering from a serious knee injury, then managed only eight appearances before suffering a season-ending foot issue. In that span, he rushed 102 times for 332 yards and three scores, with a career-low 3.3 YPC. Chubb's foot injury won't require surgery to heal, meaning he could be healthy in time to test the free agent market, but it's unclear whether the 29-year-old veteran will draw significant interest, having played just 10 combined games over the past two seasons.
Dec 18, 2024
Moves to IR, out for season
The Browns placed Chubb (foot) on injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
While Chubb isn't expected to require surgery to repair the left foot he fractured in this past Sunday's 21-7 loss to the Chiefs, the injury will keep him sidelined for the final three games of the season. Jerome Ford is expected to step in as the Browns' lead back in place of Chubb, whose future in Cleveland is uncertain. The four-time Pro Bowler is set to become an unrestricted free agent this spring, and while Chubb has said that he would like to finish his career in Cleveland, it's unclear if the organization feels the same. After sustaining a significant left knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season, Chubb didn't make his 2024 debut until Week 7 and lacked his usual explosiveness as a runner. He averaged 3.3 yards per carry -- by far a career-low mark -- and scored four touchdowns over his eight appearances before going down with the fractured foot.
Dec 16, 2024
Not expected to need surgery
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday he doesn't expect Chubb (foot) to require surgery to address the broken left foot he suffered during Sunday's 21-7 loss to the Chiefs, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Stefanski indicated that Chubb is done for the year but that he's facing a "shorter-term recovery time" than he did last offseason, while rehabbing from a severe knee injury, Camryn Justice of News 5 Cleveland reports. Nonetheless, this marks the second year in a row in which Chubb has had his season end early due to injury, and will begin his offseason focused on rehabbing. The soon-to-be 29-year-old is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year in March, making his future with Cleveland uncertain. For the remainder of the 2024 campaign, beginning Sunday versus Cincinnati, Jerome Ford looks positioned to operate as the No. 1 running back for the Browns, with D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong also available as depth options.
Dec 15, 2024
Sustains broken foot
Head coach Kevin Stefanski relayed that Chubb broke his foot during Sunday's 21-7 loss to the Chiefs, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Chubb presumably set to miss time down the stretch, Jerome Ford is poised to see an increased role in the Browns' backfield going forward. Additionally, in the wake of Chubb's injury, D'Onta Foreman figures to re-enter the team's backfield mix, with Pierre Strong also available to handle change-of-pace snaps.
Dec 15, 2024
Leaves Sunday's game
Chubb won't return to Sunday's game against the Chiefs due to a foot injury.
ANALYSIS
Before being forced out of the contest, Chubb carried nine times for 41 yards. While he's sidelined, Jerome Ford is next in line for the Browns' Week 15 carries.
Dec 8, 2024
Posts 48 yards in loss
Chubb rushed the ball 11 times for 48 yards in Sunday's 27-14 loss to the Steelers. He did not record a reception on one target.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was in an even split in the backfield with Jerome Ford for the entire day. While that limited his volume, Chubb did manage a 19-yard run -- his longest of the season. He's now gained between 48 and 59 yards on the ground in four of his seven games this season, though the ongoing split in the backfield will continue to limit his fantasy appeal.
Dec 3, 2024
Records receiving TD in loss
Chubb rushed nine times for 21 yards and secured both targets for 24 yards and a touchdown in the Browns' 41-32 loss to the Broncos on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
Chubb and Jerome Ford both logged the same number of carries, but the latter recorded 20 more rushing yards. However, Chubb was the only one of the two that got into the end zone, as he recorded a five-yard scoring grab with just under nine minutes remaining to erase a 31-25 deficit. The touchdown was Chubb's first through the air since Week 18 of the 2022 season and fourth overall since making his Week 7 season debut. Chubb will look to hit paydirt again in Week 14 versus a Steelers squad he tallied a pair of rush TDs against in Week 12.
Nov 21, 2024
Two TDs in busy game
Chubb rushed 20 times for 59 yards and two touchdowns and secured his only target for one yard in the Browns' 24-19 win over the Steelers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
After a Week 11 outing against the Saints where his workload was intentionally kept light, Chubb handled his largest carry total yet in his five-game season and made good use of the opportunity. The talented veteran back found the end zone from two yards out in both the second and fourth quarters, his first scores since his Week 7 debut. Chubb's second touchdown also provided the game-winning points for Cleveland, and his yardage was a new season high. Chubb will now extra down time before a Week 13 Monday night matchup on the road against a tough Broncos defense on Dec. 2.
Nov 20, 2024
Week 11 usage was planned
Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said Tuesday that having Chubb play 22 snaps in Week 11's loss to the Saints was planned with the quick follow-up Thursday in mind, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. The Browns host the Steelers in Week 12.
ANALYSIS
The snap count against the Saints was the lowest since Chubb made his season debut in Week 7, and his 11 carries matched a season-low (also in Week 7). The running back had his best game in Week 11, averaging 4.5 yards per carry and looked closest to the pre-injury version of Chubb than seen in his four games played. Thursday is shaping up to be real AFC North weather in Cleveland with a 90 percent chance of precipitation (both rain and snow) and wind. It's a game where running the ball will be important.
Nov 17, 2024
Modest numbers again in Week 11
Chubb carried the ball 11 times for 50 yards in Sunday's 35-14 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
The game didn't get away from the Browns until the fourth quarter, but Chubb still failed to get a big workload, even coming off a bye and facing what has been a vulnerable New Orleans run defense this season. Cleveland may simply no longer view Chubb as a viable bell cow after last year's serious knee injury, so while he should remain at the top of the depth chart ahead of the likes of Jerome Ford, his days of seeing 20-plus touches on a consistent basis may be over. Chubb isn't likely to break out in Week 12 against the Steelers, a team he's only scored two rushing touchdowns against in 10 career meetings.
Nov 3, 2024
Stymied by Chargers in loss
Chubb rushed 15 times for 39 yards and brought in his only target for minus-4 yards in the Browns' 27-10 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The Browns tried in vain to establish the ground game via Chubb, but the Chargers' defense repeatedly proved it was up to the task. The veteran has already proven capable of handling a double-digit carry workload over his first three games back from last season's devastating knee injury, but Cleveland's offensive line has failed to open up any holes for him on a consistent basis. Chubb does draw a favorable matchup on paper in a Week 10 road trip to New Orleans.
Oct 28, 2024
Still under restrictions
Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said after Sunday's win over Baltimore that Chubb's workload is still being monitored, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. "I wouldn't say we took all the pitch count off," Stefanski said. "Still want to be smart with Nick in the second game back, but he's moving well."
ANALYSIS
Chubb was on the field for 61 percent of the offensive snaps Sunday, compared to 36 percent in his first post-injury game last week, when the running back barely played in the second half. The workload increased from 11 carries to 16, including six touches in the second half. While there may be some restrictions, neither D'Onta Foreman nor Pierre Strong is a threat to Chubb's backfield dominance.

Handles 16 carries
Chubb rushed the ball 16 times for 52 yards in Sunday's 29-24 win over the Ravens. He failed to record a reception on two targets.
ANALYSIS
Chubb saw a relatively heavy workload once again, accounting for 16 of the 21 rush attempts out of the team's backfield. As could be expected in a tough matchup, he was largely held in check with his longest rush going for 15 yards early in the second quarter. Chubb hasn't been efficient in his first two games since returning from knee surgery, but he is the lead back in the Browns' offense -- a positive for his outlook moving forward.

Finds end zone in return
Chubb rushed the ball 11 times for 22 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Bengals. He added one receptions on three targets for 10 yards.
ANALYSIS
Chubb dominated touches out of the Browns' backfield in his first game in over in a year, as no other running back had more than three carries. While he wasn't particularly efficient, he did manage to plow into the end zone for a one-yard score late in the second quarter. Chubb's usage was promising given the long layoff, though Cleveland's offensive efficiency is in question moving forward with uncertain quarterback play.

Week 7 return official
Chubb (knee) is active Week 7 against the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
It's been nearly 400 days since the last time Chubb took the field in an NFL game, but after a lengthy rehab of multiple serious knee injuries, he'll return to action for a Cleveland offense desperate for any type of spark. Chubb's workload remains the bigger question mark, however. Jerome Ford - who had been operating as RB1 while Chubb was on the PUP list - is set to miss this game due to a hamstring injury, which would, in theory, pave the way for Chubb to be the lead back. However, given it's his 2024 debut, as well as his extensive injury history, expect the likes of D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong to also factor into the Cleveland backfield as Chubb works his way back into the mix.
Oct 19, 2024
Activated off injured reserve
Chubb (knee), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest against the Bengals, was activated off injured reserve Saturday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
This had been widely discussed since earlier this week, but the team made it official Saturday. It's unclear how much work Chubb will get over a year removed from a gruesome and serious knee injury, but the absence of Jerome Ford (hamstring) might force the Browns' hand somewhat. Expect D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong to also both still have a role within Cleveland's dormant offense.
Oct 18, 2024
Deemed questionable, expected to play
Though listed as questionable by the Browns, Chubb (knee) is expected to play Sunday against the Bengals, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb is currently on the PUP list, but look for him to be activated Saturday, and though he'll head into the weekend with a 'questionable' injury designation, he's expected to rejoin the Browns' backfield Sunday. Chubb's looming return arrives at an opportune time for the team, with fellow RB Jerome Ford (hamstring) having been ruled out. It remains to be seen how much work Chubb -- who has been practicing fully -- will see in his first game action since Week 2 of the 2023 season, but he's in a position to claim a portion of Cleveland's Week 7 carries in a backfield that also includes D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong.
Oct 18, 2024
Favorable Week 7 matchup
Chubb (knee) and the Browns face the Bengals' 27th-ranked run defense Week 7.
ANALYSIS
Chubb is expected to part of the active roster this weekend in what looks like a favorable matchup against the in-division foe, which has allowed 146.0 rushing yards per game. The question remains if Cleveland's ground game, which enters Week 7 ranked 28th (97.2 ypg), can take advantage. The rushing attack has been glaringly absent all season but showed signs of life in the second half of last week's loss to the Eagles. That development, along with Chubb's return, could bring better production to an offense that ranks last in the NFL in total yards per game (240.2) and 30th in points per game (15.8).
Oct 17, 2024
No set snap count
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that there is no exact number of snaps or touches the team has set for Chubb (knee) in Sunday's game against the Bengals, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb is set to play his first game since Week 2 of 2023 after sustaining multiple knee injuries and a lengthy rehab process. Despite what the coach's comments might suggest, it stands to reason that Chubb wouldn't be in line for, say, 20-to-25 opportunities in first game back after a lengthy absence. Stefanski was more concerned about the entire offense, which has yet to reach 20 points or 300 yards in a game. Chubb can give the offense a jolt and ignite a dormant rushing attack. Moving the chains and extend drives would be a start. Cleveland owns the worst third-down offense in the NFL at a conversion rate of 19.2 percent.
Oct 16, 2024
Logs full practice
Chubb (knee) was a full practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb remains on the PUP list, but he's been practicing since Week 5 and is expected to make his season debut this Sunday against the Bengals (per ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi). This is his first time being listed as a full practice participant, furthering the notion that he's on track to play. Fellow Browns RB Jerome Ford (hamstring) missed Wednesday's practice after making an early exit from the 20-16 loss at Philadelphia on Sunday.
Oct 12, 2024
Set to return Week 7
Chubb (knee) is expected to make his 2024 debut against the Bengals in Week 7, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb remains on the reserve/PUP list despite having his 21-day practice window opened Oct. 2. The 28-year-old has already been ruled out for this Sunday's game against the Eagles, but he was able to log a trio of limited practice sessions during the week, setting himself up for a Week 7 return. Chubb last saw game action in Week 2 of last season, when he tore the ACL, MCL and meniscus in his left knee against Pittsburgh. Jerome Ford has been leading Cleveland's backfield this season and has averaged 5.2 yards per carry, though he's scored just one touchdown thus far. Chubb will likely lead to be eased back into action to some extent, but if he eventually proves to be close to his ability level prior to the injury, he'll likely take over the lead-back role for the Browns in due time.
Oct 11, 2024
Not ready this week
Chubb (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Eagles, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb, who remains on the reserve/PUP list, has been able to practice in a limited capacity but his next chance to be activated for game action will have to wait at least a week. In his continued absence, Jerome Ford, D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong are slated to handle Cleveland's backfield duties versus Philadelphia.
Oct 9, 2024
Limited in practice again
Chubb (knee) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was a limited participant all last week after the Browns opened his 21-day practice window Oct. 2. Coach Kevin Stefanski isn't giving hints about whether the running back might actually be activated this week, merely saying "anything is possible" when asked Wednesday about Chubb's availability for the game at Philadelphia this Sunday, per Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Oct 4, 2024
Officially ruled out for Week 5
Chubb (knee), who remains on the PUP list after having been designated to return to practice Wednesday, is ruled out for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was never a realistic candidate to retake the field as early as Week 5, and it would be unsurprising to see the Browns give him the benefit of his full 21-day practice window before activating him to the 53-man roster. Still, Chubb's recovery progress has been encouraging, with head coach Kevin Stefanski saying the star running back "looks like himself to me," per Zac Jackson of The Athletic. Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports that Chubb has worked with the scout team and in individual drills at practice.
Oct 3, 2024
Puts in limited practice Thursday
Chubb (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was back on the field for the second day in a row, albeit with a cap on his reps as the Browns ease him back from the major left knee injury that he sustained in Week 2 of the 2023 season. According to Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com, Chubb said his surgically repaired knee felt good following Wednesday's practice, but he's unlikely to play Sunday against the Commanders and admitted that he's unsure when he'll be ready to make his 2024 debut. Until Chubb is activated from the PUP list, Jerome Ford should remain the Browns' lead back, while D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong (hamstring) fill depth roles behind him.
Oct 2, 2024
Returns to practice
Chubb (knee) returned to practice Wednesday but was fifth through the line for hand-offs, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Although the Browns have declined to comment on expectations for Chubb's return to games, their decision to open his 21-day practice window Wednesday suggests they expect him back no later than Week 8. He won't be listed on official injury reports until he's placed on the active roster, which means further updates on the extent of his practice participation will depend on what beat writers are permitted to see and any updates provided by Chubb or his teammates/coaches. Chubb's spot at the back of the hand-off line Wednesday might be taken as a hint that Jerome Ford will get at least one more game in the lead backfield role this Sunday at Washington.
Oct 2, 2024
Designated to return to practice
Chubb (ankle) has been designated to return to practice by the Browns.
ANALYSIS
The move opens up a 21-day practice window for Chubb, who is on the reserve/PUP list. Per Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal, there's still no definitive target for Chubb's return to game action, but the running back's looming return to practice represents a major milestone in his recovery from the serious knee injury he sustained in Week 2 last season.
Sep 30, 2024
Slated to practice Wednesday
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday he expects Chubb (knee, PUP list) to have his 21-day practice window opened Wednesday and to be on the field in some capacity, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb currently remains on the reserve/PUP list due to a severe left knee injury sustained Week 2 of last season, so it will be highly encouraging to see him ready to resume practicing at his earliest possible eligible date. Once officially designated to return, Cleveland will have 21 days to evaluate Chubb at practice, throughout which span he'll be eligible to return to the active roster at any time. That makes Sunday's road game against the Commanders the earliest tentative date Chubb could be eligible to return to game action, though it seems more likely that the veteran running back will be brought along cautiously. Jerome Ford will continue to lead Cleveland's backfield until Chubb is fully cleared, with D'Onta Forman available behind him on the depth chart.
Sep 29, 2024
Practice window expected to open Wednesday
The Browns are expected to open the practice window on Chubb (knee, PUP list) this coming week, Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network report.
ANALYSIS
Per Rapoport, Chubb -- who is bouncing back from a major knee injury that he sustained in Week 2 of last season -- is on track to have his practice window opened Wednesday. If that indeed occurs, the Browns would then have three weeks to reinstate the running back to their active roster. While Rapoport notes that Chubb isn't expected to be available for the team's Week 5 contest against the Commanders, a return to practice on Chubb's part, in any capacity, would represent a significant milestone toward a potential return to action in the coming weeks. In the meantime, Jerome Ford will continue to serve as Cleveland's top back, with D'Onta Foreman working as his top backup.
Sep 25, 2024
To be evaluated next week
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday that Chubb (knee) is "doing well" and will be evaluated next week, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stefanski essentially sidestepped the question when a reporter asked if Chubb would be designated to return from injured reserve when first eligible next week. Fantasy managers don't have much to go on right now, with Chubb more than a year removed from suffering ACL and MCL tears but only 10 months out from the second surgery he had on his knee. Fellow Browns running back Jerome Ford has played 66 percent of snaps on offense through three games, averaging 9.7 carries for 48.3 yards and 3.3 catches for 19.3 yards in an offense that's been severely limited by poor play at quarterback and offensive tackle. The situation may be somewhat better by the time Chubb returns, but the combination of subpar team context and major knee surgery will make it difficult to maintain his accustomed rushing efficiency (5.0 YPC or better every season).
Aug 27, 2024
Officially starts season on PUP
Chubb (knee) is on the PUP list to start the regular season, ruling him out for at least the first four games.
ANALYSIS
The Browns made it official Tuesday after it was widely reported Monday. The 28-year-old running back has been working out, running and even doing agility work throughout the summer, but he still hasn't resumed practicing with the team since suffering an ACL tear last September. Jerome Ford is set to lead Cleveland's backfield early in the season, just as he did for much of last year.
Aug 26, 2024
Likely staying on PUP list
Chubb (knee) is expected to start the regular season on the PUP list, which will rule him out for the first four weeks, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb has been on the active/PUP list since the start of training camp -- meaning he hasn't returned to practice -- and now figures to be placed on reserve/PUP ahead of Week 1. Jerome Ford is set to lead Cleveland's backfield early in the season, with D'Onta Foreman (ribs) and Pierre Strong (ribs) also candidates to take some carries. Chubb is rebounding from surgeries in September and November to address ACL and MCL tears in the same left knee that he injured in 2015 during his sophomore season at Georgia.
Jul 29, 2024
Progress continues
Browns GM Andrew Berry said Monday that Chubb (knee) has "a little way to go" with his rehab, ESPN's Daniel Oyefusi reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was spotted Friday running sprints and doing agility work, with Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer noting that team owner Jimmy Haslam "looked very pleased" to see Chubb "cutting with tremendous agility". While the reports from other Cleveland beat writers weren't quite as glowing, Zac Jackson of The Athletic agreed that it was "impressive" to see Chubb's progress both on the field and in the weight room (a viral video shortly before training camp showed the RB squatting more than 500 pounds). Neither player nor team has mentioned a timeline for Chubb coming off the physically unable to perform list and returning to practice, leaving him uncertain for the early part of the season despite a general sense of optimism.
Jul 27, 2024
Participates in workout Friday
Chubb (knee) had a post-practice workout Friday, running sprints of 40 yards, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This was the first activity that any outsiders have seen of Chubb, who has worked on the side with trainers over the first two days of camp doing non-football exercises -- as Jackson described it, "keep-the-blood flowing kind of stuff." Chubb was not wearing a brace or wrap during the sprints, and Jackson reports it's hard to tell if he was running full speed or if he's dealing with any restrictions. Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski said the running back is right where should be in his recovery. Chubb opened camp on the active/physically unable to perform list and could be activated at any point during camp.
Jul 24, 2024
Officially shifts to PUP list
The Browns placed Chubb (knee) on the active/PUP list Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb will officially begin training camp on the PUP list, as expected. He can be activated at any point throughout camp or the preseason once ready to practice, and upon passing a physical. The 28-year-old running back is working his way back from a severe left knee injury, including two separate surgeries to repair his MCL and ACL. Chubb has made encouraging workout progress this offseason and is expected to be healthy and available for game action at some point during the 2024 campaign, but an actual timetable for his return remains undisclosed. In the meantime, Jerome Ford, D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong figure to handle the bulk of backfield reps at practice, with Nyheim Hines (knee) also working his way back from the active/non-football injury list.
Jul 15, 2024
Encouraging workout progress
Chubb (knee) was shown in a video posted Monday to his documentary film's Instagram account handling two squat reps of what appears to be 558 pounds, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb didn't do any on-field work during OTAs or minicamp and declined to put a timetable on his return back in June, but the four-time Pro Bowler continues to make progress in his recovery with the start of training camp approaching, as veterans report for Cleveland on July 23. The 28-year-old suffered a season-ending ACL, MCL and meniscus knee injury Week 2 last year, requiring separate surgeries to repair his MCL on Sept. 29, then his ACL on Nov. 14. When Chubb suffered a similar injury to the same knee at Georgia he didn't miss a single game in the Bulldogs' following season, but at that time his ACL wasn't torn. It still remains to be seen whether Chubb will be available for the start of training camp as even a limited participant, or whether he'll be on the field Week 1 versus Dallas, but the Browns are optimistic he'll be fully healthy and suiting up at some point during the 2024 campaign. Cleveland has depth to lean if Chubb isn't able to play early, as the team added bruiser D'Onta Foreman and pass-
Jun 5, 2024
No timetable for practice return
Chubb (knee) said Wednesday that he doesn't have a timeline for returning to practice, Chris Easterling of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb had surgery Sept. 29 to address an MCL tear and then another procedure Nov. 14 to repair his ACL. The injury he suffered Week 3 last season also included damage to his meniscus and medial capsule, further adding to the difficulty of rehabbing a severe left knee for the second time. He tore three ligaments in the same knee while playing at Georgia in Oct. 2015, though in that case his ACL remained intact. Chubb seems unlikely to be ready for the start of training camp and might also miss the start of the regular season, but he anticipates making a full recovery and playing in games at some point this year. In the meantime, the Browns have Jerome Ford, D'Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong as their top running backs, with Nyheim Hines potentially pitching in as a pass-catching specialist.
Apr 18, 2024
Running on land again
Chubb (knee) resumed running on land within the last week, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb took his rehab to the next level shortly after agreeing last Thursday to a contract alteration that converted a large portion of his scheduled $11.75 million base salary into incentives. He's entering the final season of a three-year extension and still faces a long path to complete his rehab from surgeries in September and November to address ACL, MCL and meniscus injuries in his left knee. It's the same knee in which he suffered a major injury Oct. 2015 -- his sophomore season at Georgia -- and he later had an MCL sprain in the knee Oct. 2020. The Browns hope the 28-year-old is ready for Week 1, but they're also preparing for the possibility of missed time, having added RBs D'Onta Foreman and Nyheim Hines (knee) to a roster that still has Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong.
Apr 11, 2024
Takes pay cut
Chubb (knee) agreed Thursday to restructure his contract with the Browns, lowering his $11.75 million base salary while adding additional incentives, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb is coming off a severe left knee injury, involving surgeries to repair his ACL, MCL and meniscus, but the Browns have consistently stated that he wasn't considered a cut candidate, as Cabot notes. Restructuring his base salary into a more manageable figure solidifies the notion that Chubb will remain in Cleveland for the final year of his deal. Depending on his performance, Chubb could reportedly make back the entire sum of his initial salary, but he'll first have to return to full health and retake the field. Should Chubb's recovery necessitate he gets off to a slow start when the regular season kicks off, the Browns will have new backfield additions D'Onta Foreman and Nyheim Hines (knee) available to help carry the load alongside holdover Jerome Ford.
Mar 26, 2024
Almost ready to resume load running
General manager Andrew Berry said Tuesday that Chubb (knee) is expected to resume load running soon, and that the next three months will determine his availability for the start of the 2024 season, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb is expected to begin load running "this month" per Berry. Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports that the general manager also said Chubb has done a fantastic job in his rehab thus far, and reiterated that the running back is expected to be with the Browns for the 2024 season, despite the fact that he carries a $15.83 million cap hit entering the final year of his contract and is coming off a brutal left knee injury. Cleveland inked D'Onta Foreman in free agency, adding another depth piece to the backfield alongside Jerome Ford. Chubb's chances of being ready for Week 1 will hinge on his recovery progress this offseason, but the expectation remains that he'll operate as the Browns' starter once fully recovered from surgeries to repair the ACL, MCL and meniscus of his left knee. It wouldn't be surprising to see Ford and Foreman begin the 2024 campaign with larger workloads, and for Chubb's involvement to grow as the season progresses.
Feb 20, 2024
May be asked to renegotiate
The Browns want to keep Chubb (knee) but might consider releasing him this offseason if the two sides can't agree on a new contract, according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Chubb probably wouldn't like the idea of taking a pay cut for the final year of his contract, as he mostly outplayed the terms of the deal before suffering an ACL tear in September. An extension would allow the Browns to lower his $15.83 million cap hit and $11.78 million base salary for 2024 without forcing Chubb to take a straight-up pay cut, though the team might be hesitant to offer significant guarantees to a 28-year-old RB coming back from a severe injury. GM Andrew Berry said in January that the Browns intend to bring Chubb back for 2024, one way or another.
Jan 22, 2024
Wanted back by Browns
Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry said Monday that the team intends to bring back Chubb (knee) for the 2024 season despite his current health and contract situation, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Berry's mention of Chubb's contract refers to the fact that the Browns have a potential 'out' this offseason for only $4 million in dead cap, whereas barring a restructure, the veteran running back would carry a $15.8 million cap hit for the 2024 campaign. Those are details that Chubb and the team can negotiate if there is indeed mutual interest in a continued partnership this offseason. On the injury front, Chubb's recovery from a significant ACL tear appears to be progressing on track. He shed his crutches mid-December and was also spotted walking without a brace on his left knee at that time.
Dec 17, 2023
Ditches crutches
Chubb (knee) was spotted walking around prior to Sunday's 20-17 win over the Bears without crutches or a brace on his surgically repaired left knee, The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb's ability to move about with crutches is a small sign of progress just over a month removed from his Nov. 14 follow-up surgery to address a torn ACL. He previously underwent surgery Sept. 18 to repair the meniscus and MCL in the same knee, but he required the secondary procedure on his ACL two months later on the advice of doctors. The Browns aren't putting a precise timeline for Chubb to resume full on-field activities, though at the time of his Nov. 14 procedure, the team announced that it expects that the running back will be able to return to play during the 2024 season.
Nov 14, 2023
Gets ACL repaired
The Browns announced Tuesday that Chubb underwent a successful surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.
ANALYSIS
The procedure was Chubb's second since he suffered the season-ending knee injury in the Browns' 26-22 loss to the Steelers on Sept. 18. He had his first surgery Sept. 29 on his meniscus and MCL, but under the recommendation of doctors, he waited another six weeks before addressing the torn ACL. Chubb is without an official timeline to return to football activities, but the Browns previously relayed after the first surgery that the running back is expected to be available for game action at some point during the 2024 season. Jerome Ford has taken over as the Browns' primary option out of the backfield while Chubb has been sidelined, with Kareem Hunt and Pierre Strong serving as change-of-pace options behind Ford.
Sep 30, 2023
Underwent knee surgery Friday
Chubb (knee, IR) underwent surgery to repair his torn MCL and meniscus on Friday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns announced Friday's surgery also repaired damage to Chubb's medial capsule. The star running back was injured back in Week 2 and will require a second surgery "in the coming months" to repair his ACL. The team believes Chubb will be able to return to play "at some point" in 2024. Cleveland recently brought back Kareem Hunt to pair with Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong in its backfield. Deon Jackson also signed with the practice squad.
Sep 23, 2023
Optimism regarding serious injury
Chubb, who was placed on injured reserve Wednesday and will not play in the 2023 season, appears to have avoided the worst-case scenario regarding his knee injury and could be ready to return to start next season, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Monday's gruesome injury looked devastating for Chubb's status not just this season, but for more to come, although there's growing sentiment that the four-time Pro Bowler didn't tear his ACL, only his MCL. The Browns are expected to have further clarity regarding the recovery timeline after Chubb undergoes surgery to repair his knee, in which the doctors can assess the rest of the damage more closely. Just a torn MCL, although very serious, would be incredibly fortunate given how scary the injury looked initially and the immediate prognosis following the Week 2 loss to the Steelers.
Sep 20, 2023
Placed on IR
Chubb (knee) has been placed on IR by the Browns.
ANALYSIS
With Chubb slated to undergo surgery and out for the season, per Kelsey Russo of the team's official site, Cleveland signed Kareem Hunt on Wednesday. As Chubb embarks on a lengthy recovery from his knee injury, the Browns will proceed with Jerome Ford as their top back this Sunday against the Titans, with Hunt -- who played for the franchise from 2019 through 2022 -- and Pierre Strong candidates to mix in.
Sep 19, 2023
Could require multiple surgeries
Chubb (knee) could undergo surgery within the next 7-to-10 days and then again several weeks later, Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The precise diagnosis of Chubb's injury is not completely clear yet, but according to the latest report he also has damage to his meniscus. His injuries are season-ending, which means the star running back will focus on recovery going forward. The 27-year-old notably dislocated and tore the MCL, PCL and LCL in the same knee in October 2015 during his sophomore season at Georgia. Jerome Ford will fill in as the Browns' new feature back in the immediate future, but Cleveland is still expected to bring in another veteran option at the position.
Sep 19, 2023
Confirmed out for season
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Tuesday that Chubb will undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee after the running back exited Monday's 26-22 loss to the Steelers with the injury, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb carried 10 times for 64 yards before going down with the gruesome injury two plays into the second quarter, when his knee bent awkwardly on a hit by Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. The star running back was carted off the field, and as anticipated, initial tests on Chubb's knee revealed a season-ending injury. Until the results of Chubb's MRI are read, the Browns may not provide a precise diagnosis for the injury, but the 27-year-old notably dislocated and tore the ACL, PCL and LCL in the same knee in October 2015 during his sophomore season at Georgia. With Chubb lost for the season, Stefanski told Cabot that Jerome Ford will step in as the Browns' new feature back, though the coach suggested that Cleveland will still look to add another back to the 53-man roster.
Sep 19, 2023
Likely out for season
Chubb likely sustained a season-ending left knee injury during Monday's loss at Pittsburgh, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Immediately after he took a helmet to the knee from Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, Chubb was clutching at his left leg, and trainers made their way on the field to tend to him before he was carted off. Chubb is believed to have suffered multiple ligament tears to the same knee that was dislocated and sustained ACL, MCL and LCL tears in October 2015 while at Georgia. While Cleveland will be without Chubb for the rest of the campaign, his likely replacement in the backfield is Jerome Ford, who had 19 touches for 131 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown Monday.
Sep 18, 2023
Significant knee injury feared
The Browns fear that Chubb suffered a significant left knee injury during Monday night's game against the Steelers, Jake Trotter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb, who was carted off the field in the second quarter of the contest, was quickly ruled out by the team after sustaining the injury, with Jerome Ford taking over as Cleveland's lead back. Look for further updates from the Browns to arrive following Monday's game, but at this stage it appears as though Chubb could be facing an extended absence.
Sep 18, 2023
Carted off field
Chubb was carted off the field after suffering an apparent knee injury in Monday's matchup with the Browns, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb took a helmet to the knee from Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. He was subsequently replaced by Jerome Ford in the backfield and has already been ruled out for the game. The star running back had recorded 64 yards on 10 carries prior to exiting.
Sep 10, 2023
Tops century mark in Week 1 win
Chubb rushed 18 times for 106 yards and caught all four of his targets for 21 yards in Sunday's 24-3 win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Chubb topped 100 yards on the ground after doing so seven times last season, and his four catches would have been Chubb's second-highest total in 2022, so the star running back's usage in this low-scoring season opener was highly encouraging. Jerome Ford actually got 15 carries, but he rushed for just 36 yards and lost a fumble, so Ford poses little threat to Chubb's workload. Cleveland's workhorse back will try to pick up his first touchdown of the season on Monday Night Football in Week 2 against a Steelers team that just allowed 152 rushing yards and a touchdown to San Francisco RB Christian McCaffrey.
Aug 26, 2023
Not in line to play Saturday
Chubb isn't expected to see action in Saturday's preseason finale against the Chiefs, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With top backup Jerome Ford dealing with a hamstring injury, it looks like the Browns plan to play it safe with Chubb on Saturday. As a result, Demetric Felton, John Kelly, Hassan Hall and Jordan Wilkins should have an opportunity versus Kansas City to support their cases for depth slotting in the team's backfield ahead of Week 1. Once the regular season starts on Sept. 10 against the Bengals, Chubb will remain entrenched as Cleveland's top RB option, a context that should provide him with consistent weekly volume in terms of snaps and touches.

Not in line to face Eagles
Chubb isn't slated to play in Thursday's preseason contest against the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
With Chubb and fellow RB Jerome Ford among the Browns' key players not in line to see action Thursday, Demetric Felton, John Kelly, Hassan Hall and Jordan Wilkins are available to log carries versus Philadelphia. Chubb's final opportunity to see preseason work arrives on Aug. 26 against the Chiefs.
Aug 11, 2023
In line to rest Friday
Chubb is not in line to see action in Friday's preseason contest against the Commanders, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Cabot, top wideout Amari Cooper is also likely to be rested in the contest. With Jerome Ford (hamstring) unavailable Friday, Demetric Felton, John Kelly and Hassan Hall are slated to handle the team's backfield duties versus Washington.
Aug 7, 2023
Could handle third downs
Running backs coach Stump Mitchell suggested Chubb will play third downs this season, while head coach Kevin Stefanski said he isn't sure who will handle the role, Scott Petrak of BrownsZone reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns need to take Chubb off the field at least occasionally and it makes sense to do it when the odds of a run play are lowest. On the other hand, their backfield offers minimal NFL experience behind him now that Kareem Hunt is gone, so Chubb may end up being the only one trusted to pass block and know all of his assignments. Jerome Ford is on track for the second spot on the depth chart, following a rookie season in which he got eight carries and nary a target. The Browns also have 2020 sixth-round Demetric Felton, who played some WR in college and could be the choice if the Browns decide to prioritize receiving skills over blocking and size. It sounds like Chubb's position coach expects him to handle at least a portion of the snaps in clear passing situations, which might be enough to elevate him to the elite tier of running backs for fantasy football. The 27-year-old has arguably been the most effective runner in the league since he was drafted -- five straight seasons with at least 996 yards, eight
Aug 2, 2023
Likely to rest Thursday
Chubb and fellow running back Jerome Ford won't likely receive many, if any snaps in Thursday night's preseason opener against the Jets, Anthony Poisal of the Browns' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns have little reason to expose Chubb or any of their other top skill players to contact in the team's exhibition opener, so we'd expect their lead back to be a spectator Thursday. In that scenario, look for Demetric Felton, John Kelly, Nate McCrary and Hassan Hall to have a chance to handle backfield touches versus the Jets and make their case for depth slotting. Assuming he can stay healthy, Chubb has a clear path to a heavy workload for Cleveland out of the gate once the regular season starts.

Tops 100 total yards to end season
Chubb rushed the ball 12 times for 77 yards in Sunday's 28-14 loss to the Steelers. He added five receptions on six targets for 45 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Chubb paced the Browns backfield in carries and yards, though he ended up with fewer than 15 carries for the fifth time in his last nine games. Despite facing a tough Pittsburgh run defense, he managed to work efficiently and ripped off big gains of 19 and 15 yards. Chubb also tallied his 13th total touchdown and first receiving score of the season on a two-yard catch early in the fourth quarter. He ends the campaign with 1,520 rushing yards -- the highest mark of his career -- and will be back to lead the Cleveland backfield in 2023.
Jan 1, 2023
Efficient in 100-yard performance
Chubb rushed the ball 14 times for 104 yards in Sunday's 24-10 win over the Commanders. He added one reception for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
Chubb dominated carries out of the Browns' backfield, though he lost some opportunity to Deshaun Watson -- who finished second on the team with eight rushes. Nevertheless, Chubb was very efficient with his opportunity by averaging 7.4 yards per attempt and turning in long runs of 35 and 14 yards. With the effort, he topped 100 rushing yards for the first time since Week 12, though he has not found the end zone in each of his last five contests.
Dec 24, 2022
Heavy workload in loss
Chubb rushed 24 times for 92 yards and brought in his only target for 10 yards in the Browns' 17-10 loss to the Saints on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb enjoyed a hefty workload in the frigid Cleveland conditions, logging his second-highest carry total of the season. He worked hard against a Saints defense that had been vulnerable to the run on the road, as outside of his long run of 19 yards, he gained 73 yards on 23 rush attempts. The talented back now has consecutive 20-plus-carry, 90-plus-yard tallies, sending him into a Week 17 road battle versus the Commanders with some momentum.
Dec 22, 2022
Cleared to play Saturday
Chubb (foot) isn't slated to carry an injury designation for Saturday's game against the Saints, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram and Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer report.
ANALYSIS
Per coach Kevin Stefanski, Chubb -- who was listed as a 'DNP' Tuesday and Wednesday -- looked good in his return to practice Thursday, which paves the way for the running back to suit up Saturday and continue to lead the Browns' backfield in Week 16. In last weekend's 13-3 win over the Ravens, Chubb carried 21 times for 99 yards, and this time around he'll be facing a New Orleans defense that is allowing an average of 132.6 rushing yards per game to date.
Dec 22, 2022
Back at practice
Chubb (foot) was present for practice Thursday, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was listed as a non-participant Tuesday and Wednesday, so his return to Thursday's practice is a positive development ahead of Saturday's game against the Saints. The Browns' upcoming injury report will clarify whether the running back heads into the weekend with a Week 16 injury designation or cleared to face New Orleans
Dec 21, 2022
Team optimistic despite no practice
Chubb (foot) missed another practice Wednesday, but the Browns still have optimism he'll play in Saturday's game against the Saints, Tom Withers of The Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
The same reportedly is true of star defensive end Myles Garrett, though he's merely dealing with an illness while Chubb is nursing a foot injury. Chubb took on a season-high 70 percent snap share in this past Saturday's 13-3 win over Baltimore, suggesting his injury isn't too serious. In any case, Kareem Hunt presumably would get his first start of the season if Chubb were to miss Saturday's matchup with New Orleans, a game that's likely to be impacted by strong winds and possibly snow.
Dec 20, 2022
Dealing with foot issue
Chubb won't practice Tuesday due to a foot injury, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb hit the 20-carry threshold for the fifth time in 14 appearances this season Sunday against the Ravens, finishing with 99 yards on 21 rushes. His DNP on Tuesday may be maintenance-related as a result, but his status still will be one to monitor as the week goes on to get a sense of his availability for Saturday's game against the Saints.
Dec 17, 2022
Racks up 99 yards
Chubb rushed the ball 21 times for 99 yards in Saturday's 13-3 win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Despite a tough matchup, Chubb found himself in a positive game environment and put together a solid performance. He had only two rushes of more than 10 yards but still managed a solid 4.7 yards per carry to top 80 rushing yards for just the second time in his last six games. While the performance was positive, of Chubb's six 100-yard rushing performances, only one has come since Week 10. Even with the recent downturn in performance, he now has 1,252 rushing yards -- seven fewer than he posted across 14 games in 2021.
Dec 11, 2022
Struggles in Cincy
Chubb rushed 14 times for 34 yards and caught all three of his targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 23-10 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Chubb's attempts were limited by Cleveland playing from behind throughout, and he didn't do much with the opportunities he received. While Chubb tied his season high with three catches, he simply isn't involved enough in the passing game to make up the difference when he's bottled up on the ground. The star running back's first multi-game touchdown drought has coincided with Deshaun Watson's first two starts for the Browns, and Chubb will look to end this slump in Week 15 against the Ravens, who allowed one of his 12 rushing touchdowns back in Week 7.
Dec 4, 2022
Posts 80 yards against Texans
Chubb rushed the ball 17 times for 80 yards in Sunday's 27-14 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Deshaun Watson made his team debut in Sunday's win, though Chubb maintained his typical role. He continued to run with strong efficiency, ripping off two rushes of more than 15 yards. However, he remained uninvolved as a pass catcher and also failed to find the end zone for only the fourth time this season. While it was a bit of a letdown performance, the Browns seem content to remain a run-heavy offense, as Watson took to the air only 22 times in the relatively comfortable win.
Nov 27, 2022
Productive with heavy workload
Chubb rushed 26 times for 116 yards and a touchdown and brought in his only target for 16 yards in the Browns' 23-17 overtime win over the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The star running back ended up taking on his heaviest workload of the season on the ground, and his final carry was the most critical since it culminated in a game-winning three-yard touchdown. Chubb had to work for his yards most of the afternoon against a talented Buccaneers defense, but he finished with his sixth 100-yard effort of the campaign one week after producing a season-low 19-yard tally against the Bills in Week 11. His productive afternoon also vaulted Chubb over the 1,000-yard mark for the season for the fourth straight year, sending him into a Week 13 road matchup against the vulnerable Texans run defense with plenty of momentum.
Nov 20, 2022
Completely stymied in loss
Chubb rushed 14 times for 19 yards and brought in all three targets for 48 yards in the Browns' 31-23 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb got off to an encouraging start with a 17-yard reception on the first play of the game, but his day on the ground was utterly forgettable. The star back's yardage total was his lowest of the season by far, while his production through the air was ironically his best of the campaign. Chubb's streak of three straight games with at least one touchdown was also snapped, and he'll next face the Buccaneers defense in a Week 12 home matchup.
Nov 13, 2022
Long TD in loss
Chubb rushed 11 times for 63 yards and a touchdown and secured three of four targets for 18 yards in the Browns' 39-17 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Chubb's rushing touches were clearly limited by a game script that saw the Browns already down 10 at the half and 20 going into the fourth quarter. However, the seemingly matchup-proof running back was able to deliver for fantasy managers with an efficient performance boosted by a 33-yard touchdown run down the left side of the field early in the fourth quarter. Chubb's reception total also matched a season high, and he's now recorded four touchdown runs in the last three games going into a tough Week 11 road encounter against the Bills.
Oct 31, 2022
Tops century mark with two TDs
Chubb rushed 23 times for 101 yards and two touchdowns in Monday's 32-13 win over the Bengals. He also caught his only target for three yards and ran in a two-point conversion.
ANALYSIS
Chubb found the end zone from three yards out on a direct snap to get the scoring started in the second quarter, then promptly tacked on a two-point conversion to give the Browns an 8-0 lead. Consecutive Chubb runs of 21 and six yards worked the ball down to the three-yard line on Cleveland's first drive of the second half, and quarterback Jacoby Brissett ran it in on the ensuing play to stretch Cleveland's lead to 18 points. Chubb put an exclamation point on his night with an 11-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, bringing his season touchdown total to 10. The star running back has been held to fewer than 87 rushing yards only once all season heading into Cleveland's Week 9 bye.
Oct 23, 2022
Efficient effort in Week 7 loss
Chubb rushed 16 times for 91 yards and a touchdown while also bringing in two of three targets for 16 yards in the Browns' 23-20 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb comfortably paced the Browns backfield in carries and rushing yards while also recording a rare double-digit yardage catch. The fifth-year veteran just fell short of what would have been his fourth 100-yard effort in the last five games, but game script continues to be about the only opponent that Chubb hasn't proven capable of conquering to date this season. He'll aim to keep up his excellent first half of the campaign when he faces the Bengals at home for a Monday night Halloween matchup in Week 8.
Oct 16, 2022
Can't find space against Patriots
Chubb carried the ball 12 times for 56 yards in Sunday's 38-15 loss to the Patriots. He added one reception on two targets for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
Chubb had his worst day of the season, both in terms of volume and efficiency. He saw eight carries in the first half but was largely scripted out of the final two quarters with the Browns trailing by multiple scores. Even when he was called upon, Chubb found running room hard to come by. He still managed a long rush of 18 yards but ultimately fell short of 100 yards on the ground for only the second time on the campaign.
Oct 9, 2022
Another stellar performance in loss
Chubb rushed 17 times for 134 yards and two touchdowns and didn't secure his only target in the Browns' 30-28 loss to the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb had an elite matchup on paper against a porous Chargers run defense, that very much bore out on the field. The star back ripped off a 41-yard touchdown run to kickstart his afternoon and cap off the opening possession of the game, and he went on to add a two-yard score late in the third quarter. Along the way, Chubb averaged 7.9 yards per carry while authoring his fourth 100-yard tally in the last five games, and he'll next take aim at the Patriots in Week 6 home clash.
Oct 2, 2022
Continues to run wild
Chubb rushed 19 times for 118 yards and a touchdown while catching two of three targets for nine yards in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
The 5-foot-11, 237-pound Chubb punished Atlanta's undersized defense from start to finish, resulting in his third 100-plus yard performance through four weeks. The 26-year-old lost his top spot on the league rushing leaderboard to Saquon Barkley (463 rushing yards), but he is still sitting pretty with 459 rushing yards and five touchdowns through four games. Chubb should be heavily involved in the offense gameplan against the explosive Chargers next Sunday.
Sep 22, 2022
Eclipses century mark in win
Chubb rushed 23 times for 113 yards and a touchdown and failed to bring in his only target during the Browns' 29-17 win over the Steelers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
The highlight of Chubb's night against a Steelers defense that did a good job containing him in both 2021 matchups was a 36-yard run in the first half, as he was held to 77 yards on his 22 other carries. However, the veteran back was effective when needed for the most part, and he's now encouragingly logged 62 carries over his first three games. Chubb will get some time to rest after that early robust workload before facing the Falcons in a Week 4 road matchup a week from Sunday.
Sep 18, 2022
Three TDs in shocking loss
Chubb rushed 17 times for 87 yards and three touchdowns while catching all three of his targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 31-30 loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
After watching Kareem Hunt score twice last week, Chubb capped Cleveland's first drive of Week 2 with a four-yard touchdown run. Chubb scored again from seven yards out in the fourth quarter to break a 17-17 tie, then seemingly put the game away with a 12-yard touchdown run just after the two-minute warning. A missed Browns PAT followed by a touchdown-onside kick-touchdown sequence for the Jets produced a miracle New York comeback, but while Browns fans will be heartbroken, Chubb's fantasy managers can celebrate one of the top performances of the young season.
Sep 11, 2022
Spectacular day on ground
Chubb rushed 22 times for 141 yards and secured his only target for two yards in the Browns' 26-24 win over the Panthers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb enjoyed one of his trademark workhorse performances to open the season, consistently ripping off gains against the Panthers' front throughout the afternoon. Chubb's longest run was a relatively modest 25 yards, underscoring how effective he was on a carry-to-carry basis. While backfield mate Kareem Hunt flashed with a rushing and receiving touchdown apiece, Chubb naturally retains no shortage of fantasy value heading into a Week 2 home matchup against the Jets next Sunday.
Aug 27, 2022
DNP on Saturday
Chubb didn't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Bears, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
It comes as no surprise that both Chubb and Kareem Hunt logged no action during exhibition season with the ground game taking on more importance considering quarterback Deshaun Watson must serve an 11-game suspension to begin the campaign. In Watson's stead, Jacoby Brissett will be under center, putting a lot of the onus on Chubb and Hunt to fuel the Browns offense. Throughout his four-year career, Hunt has averaged 17.2 touches for 96 yards from scrimmage per game while scoring 39 touchdowns in 58 contests.
Aug 21, 2022
Not in line to play Sunday
Chubb is not in line to play in Sunday's preseason game against the Eagles, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to Jacoby Brissett, Deshaun Watson, Amari Cooper, Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney, with Chubb's next chance to suit up for preseason action arriving next weekend against the Bears.
Aug 3, 2022
Looking ready for Week 1
Chubb participated Tuesday in the first fully padded practice of Browns training camp, Cleveland.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Apart from the wide receivers, Cleveland's offense is in good health as the intensity ratchets up at training camp. Chubb is in search of a fourth straight 1,000-yard season, and while he'll have to deal with Jacoby Brissett taking snaps for the first six weeks of the year, the talented RB will then get his first opportunity to play alongside a high-level starting QB in the NFL. That might mean a bit less emphasis on the run game, depending how things shake out with the Browns' receiving corps and defense, but it could also lead to more red-zone trips and less defensive attention directed toward stopping Chubb. First comes the Brissett era, which figures to be marked by an emphasis on Chubb and fellow running back Kareem Hunt.
Jan 9, 2022
Efficient in limited action
Chubb rushed nine times for 58 yards and brought in his only target for two yards in the Browns' 21-16 win over the Bengals on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb predictably saw relatively limited action, and a bulk of his production against what was a much improved Bengals run defense this season came on a 35-yard scamper. The fourth-year pro finished with an impressive 1,259 rushing yards in 14 games, the second-highest tally of his career. With backfield mate Kareem Hunt (ankle) under contract through next season as well, Chubb figures to still operate as the primary early-down option for the run-heavy Cleveland attack in 2022.
Jan 7, 2022
No Week 18 injury designation
Chubb (ribs/chest) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Bengals, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was limited at practice this week, but he'll be available for the Browns' season finale. Meanwhile, Kareem Hunt (ankle) is listed as questionable for the contest and D'Ernest Johnson is currently on the reserve/COVID-19 list. While Chubb is slated to be out there this weekend, it remains to be seen if he'll log his customary workload, with Cleveland out of the playoff picture. In that context, the team could look to give Demetric Felton added backfield touches in Week 18.
Jan 6, 2022
Limited in second straight practice
Chubb (ribs/chest) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb's limited listing marks no change from Wednesday, though Cleveland held a more traditional practice Thursday as opposed to a walk-through session two days earlier. Though Cleveland is eliminated from playoff contention and thus doesn't have much at stake Week 18, Chubb still should get the green light to play so long as he isn't well below 100 percent. That being said, the Browns could look to be conservative with his workload, especially if Kareem Hunt (ankle) is available to return from a three-game absence to help pick up some of the slack out of the backfield.
Jan 5, 2022
Listed as LP to start week
Chubb (chest/ribs) is listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's estimated practice report, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was noticeably absent for stretches of Monday's 26-14 loss to Pittsburgh, with coach Kevin Stefanski noting afterward that the running back got banged up early in the game. Chubb still managed 12 carries for 58 yards and took snap into the fourth quarter, so he'll likely aim to give it a go this Sunday against the Bengals, with Case Keenum replacing Baker Mayfield (IR/shoulder) under center for the season finale.
Jan 4, 2022
Plays through rib issue
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski acknowledged after Monday's 26-14 loss to the Steelers that Chubb played through a rib injury during the contest, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. "He got a little banged up with a rib injury," Stefanski said of the running back. "He was able to play through it, but he needed some rest."
ANALYSIS
Chubb suffered the injury early on in the contest, which may explain why he earned just 12 touches, his second-lowest total of the season. Though Stefanski downplayed the health concern after the game, Chubb's status will bear monitoring as the Browns head into their season finale this Sunday against the Bengals. Since Cleveland has already been eliminated from playoff contention, the team could take a cautious approach with the star back and limit his workload or withhold him entirely from a mostly meaningless Week 18 game.
Jan 3, 2022
Just 12 touches in loss
Chubb rushed 12 times for 58 yards and didn't catch his only target in Monday night's 26-14 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Chubb ripped off a 32-yard run to begin Cleveland's second series, but he didn't get much going otherwise. Of course, he also wasn't handed his usual workload either, with Monday marking his third-fewest carries in a game this season. That low involvement came despite Kareem Hunt (ankle) remaining sidelined and Baker Mayfield being sacked nine times amid another inefficient passing performance. On the bright side, Chubb will now finish the season with a matchup against a Bengals team that's already clinched the AFC North and surrendered 137 yards and two touchdowns to Chubb on the ground earlier this season.
Dec 25, 2021
Big game at Lambeau
Chubb ran for 126 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries and caught three passes for 58 yards on four targets against Green Bay on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb managed to stay involved despite the Browns trailing the vast majority of the game, providing consistently explosive production both as a runner and receiver. While Kareem Hunt tends to handle Cleveland's passing down work when healthy, this showing from Chubb is a reminder that he poses a formidable pass-catching threat in his own right when the opportunity is there. The Browns face the Steelers next, and their run defense has generally struggled in 2021.
Dec 20, 2021
Scores TD in Monday's loss
Chubb rushed 23 times for 91 yards and a touchdown while catching his only target for two yards in Monday's 16-14 loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was bottled up early on but got going in the third quarter after a fumble recovery by the defense set the Browns up in Raiders territory. The running back then ripped off a 24-yard run -- his longest of the game -- and followed it up with a four-yard touchdown run three plays later. Chubb also had a would-be 11-yard touchdown run called back on a penalty in the fourth quarter. The Browns took a 14-13 lead by scoring on that drive anyway, but Chubb failed to pick up a first down on the ensuing drive when they had a chance to salt the game away, and the Raiders ended up kicking a game-winning field goal as time expired. As long as Cleveland doesn't fall behind by too much too quickly against the Packers in Week 16, Chubb should see another hefty workload on the ground, regardless of whether fellow running back Kareem Hunt (ankle) -- who is on the reserve/COVID-19 list in addition to being injured -- is ready to play.
Dec 17, 2021
Browns-Raiders moved to Monday
Chubb and the Browns will no longer play the Raiders on Saturday, after the NFL officially rescheduled the matchup between the two teams for Monday at 5 p.m. ET.
ANALYSIS
Due to ongoing COVID-19-related concerns within the Cleveland organization, the NFL is hopeful that by delaying the game two days, the Browns will restore enough players from the reserve/COVID-19 list to alleviate depth concerns on the roster. With Kareem Hunt having landed on the list and also dealing with an ankle injury, Chubb could take on more passing-down work in addition to his normal duties as Cleveland's lead option on the ground.
Dec 16, 2021
Could get more work sans Hunt
Chubb could have a clearer path to more passing-down and goal-line work Saturday against the Raiders with top backup Kareem Hunt (ankle) ruled out for the contest, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
After a five-game absence from Weeks 7 through 11 due to a calf strain, Hunt had appeared in both of the Browns' last two games. Though Hunt saw lighter snap counts in both contests than he had earlier in the season, his absence for Week 15 at least removes one possible obstacle in Chubb's way for more high-value work. D'Ernest Johnson has proven to be a capable change-of-pace option in the opportunities he's received this season and should have a role in the game plan, so Chubb could still struggle to get more than 70 or 80 percent of the offensive snaps this weekend. Chubb's season-high snap share (66 percent) came in last week's win over the Ravens, but Baltimore did a good job of bottling him up on the ground (17 carries for 59 yards) and as a receiver (three catches for six yards on four targets).
Dec 12, 2021
Held in check
Chubb rushed 17 times for 59 yards and caught three of four targets for six yards in Sunday's 24-22 win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was held in check despite teammate Kareem Hunt being forced to exit with an ankle injury early on, leaving more snaps for him. While Chubb managed more than his mere 39 scrimmage yards versus the Ravens in Week 12, Baltimore once again succeeded in stifling the Browns' star tailback. Following consecutive down performances by Chubb's standards, he'll strive to get back on track in Week 15 versus the Raiders, when Hunt's status could potentially impact his workload ahead of D'Ernest Johnson.
Nov 29, 2021
Ground game stuffed Sunday
Chubb gained 16 yards on eight carries and caught two passes (four targets) for 23 more yards in Sunday's 16-10 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Chubb has been one of the NFL's top pure rushers this year, but his run of consistency came to a screeching halt Sunday. The Ravens were keen on bringing extra pressure and plugging potential rush lanes for the entire Cleveland rushing attack, as neither of the Browns' top two rushers were able to eclipse 20 yards for the first time this season. Kareem Hunt (leg) was held out at the end of this contest, so Chubb could be in store for heavy usage if his teammate is unable to return healthy from the upcoming bye week. Chubb averaged 17.3 carries and 109.3 rushing yards over the five-week span Hunt missed earlier this season.
Nov 27, 2021
Splitting with Hunt again
Kareem Hunt (calf) was removed from injured reserve and is set to rejoin Chubb in the Cleveland backfield Sunday night at Baltimore, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Hunt's presence, or lack thereof, hasn't had much impact on Chubb's playing time or carry/touch totals this season, with the 227-pounder logging 47-to-57 percent snap share 11-to-22 carries in each of his eight games. The Browns used D'Ernest Johnson (and sprinkles of Demetric Felton) to replace Hunt in Weeks 8, 9 and 11, while the largest workloads actually went to Johnson in the two games both Chubb and Hunt missed (Weeks 7 and 10). Hunt does pose slightly more of a threat to Chubb's touch count than the Johnson/Felton combo -- especially in the red zone -- but not enough to push Chubb out of fantasy lineups given his excellent track record of production and stable rushing workload.
Nov 21, 2021
Tops 140 total yards in return
Chubb carried the ball 22 times for 130 yards in Sunday's 13-10 win over the Lions. He added two receptions for 14 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Chubb returned from a one-game absence and matched his highest carry total of the season. He had six double-digit gains and progressively picked up more chunk yardage as the game moved along. Chubb also made his mark in the receiving game, posting his third multi-catch effort of the campaign as well as his first receiving touchdown since the 2018 season. He's now topped 100 rushing yards in four of his last five games, two of which came while he was sharing the backfield with Kareem Hunt (calf).
Nov 19, 2021
Ready for Week 11 return
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Chubb (illness) looked good in his return to practice Friday and is good to go for Sunday's game against the Lions, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After testing positive for the coronavirus Nov. 9, Chubb was sidelined for the Browns' Week 10 loss to the Patriots, but he cleared all protocols and was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday. With Stefanski confirming that Chubb checked out fine from a conditioning standpoint during Friday's practice, the 25-year-old looks like he'll be ready to lead the Cleveland ground game Week 11. Because of Chubb's lack of recent practice reps along with the fact that the Browns will be heavily favored against the 0-8-1 Lions, Cleveland could be inclined to ease up on his workload a bit in his return to action while keeping No. 2 option D'Ernest Johnson involved in the game plan on the heels of a promising Week 10 start. Regardless, fantasy managers shouldn't have any reservations about including Chubb in lineups this week.
Nov 19, 2021
Officially activated Friday
The Browns officially activated Chubb (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb missed one game after testing positive for COVID-19, but he's been reinstated to the active roster ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Lions. It remains to be seen if the 25-year-old is able to avoid Friday's injury report, though he's expected to lead the Browns' backfield this weekend after D'Ernest Johnson was forced to carry the load last week.
Nov 19, 2021
Returning from COVID list
Chubb (illness) is set to be activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb and Demetric Felton (illness) will be reinstated to the active roster Friday after missing one game due to testing positive for COVID-19. Chubb should lead Cleveland's backfield Sunday against the Lions, while Felton could help out in the aerial attack with wideouts Jarvis Landry (knee), Donovan Peoples-Jones (groin) and Anthony Schwartz (concussion) banged up.
Nov 18, 2021
Progressing, could play Week 11
Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said Thursday that Chubb (illness) is "trending in the right direction" toward being available to return from the reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday against the Lions, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Among the three Browns running backs that landed on the list last week, only John Kelly was reinstated Wednesday, but Chubb and Demetric Felton don't seem to be far behind. Because he's vaccinated, Chubb will be eligible to rejoin the Browns as soon as he's exhibiting diminished symptoms of the virus and tests negative on two occasions at least 24 hours apart, and Van Pelt's comments suggest the team's top back could be cleared as soon as Friday. Chubb's status for Sunday's game against the Lions would be dicier if he fails to return in time for Friday's practice, but even if he's activated by Saturday, he should be in good shape to lead Cleveland's ground attack in the Week 11 matchup.
Nov 17, 2021
Not a lock for Week 11?
Chubb (illness) was still on the reserve/COVID-19 list as of Wednesday afternoon, making him uncertain to play in Sunday's game against Detroit, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb still has time to return negative tests on consecutive days before Sunday, but there is some chance of D'Ernest Johnson taking on a huge role again, with Chubb's status uncertain and Kareem Hunt (IR/calf) already ruled out for Week 11 by coach Kevin Stefanski. Wednesday marks eight days since Chubb initially was placed on the COVID list last Tuesday.
Nov 12, 2021
Not playing Sunday
Chubb (illness) won't play in Sunday's contest at New England, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Per coach Kevin Stefanski, the Browns backfield will be without Chubb and Demetric Felton (illness) this weekend, as both are on the reserve/COVID-19 list after testing positive for the virus Tuesday. With Kareem Hunt (calf) not ready to return from injured reserve, D'Ernest Johnson will be the team's primary running back Sunday, which previously equated to 24 touches for 168 yards from scrimmage and one TD back in Week 7.
Nov 12, 2021
Still sidelined Friday
Chubb, who remains on the reserve/COVID-19 list, wasn't present for Friday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to Demetric Felton, with Cabot noting that the deadline for the Browns to activate either back is Saturday afternoon. If Chubb isn't cleared in advance of Sunday's game against the Patriots, D'Ernest Johnson would be in line to start at running back for the team in Week 10.
Nov 11, 2021
Sunday status TBD
Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt notes that there's still a chance Chubb could come off the reserve/COVID-19 list in time for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
With that in mind, Van Pelt adds that the Browns will keep the process going as long as they can, but at this stage the Week 10 status of both Chubb and Demetric Felton, who is also on the reserve/COVID-19 list, remains cloudy. Given that Kareem Hunt (calf) is not ready to return from injured reserve, D'Ernest Johnson would be in line to start at running back for the Browns on Sunday if Chubb isn't activated by the team.
Nov 10, 2021
Week 10 status TBD
Coach Kevin Stefanski indicated Wednesday that he didn't have updates on either Chubb or Demetric Felton, who were both placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Both backs tested positive for COVID-19 and their status for Sunday's game against the Patriots remains unclear at this point. With Kareem Hunt (calf) still on IR, D'Ernest Johnson would be in line to start at running back this weekend for the Browns if Chubb isn't cleared for Week 10 action.
Nov 9, 2021
Lands on COVID-19 list
The Browns placed Chubb (illness) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
The transaction was fully expected after Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Chubb tested positive for the virus earlier Tuesday. Because he's vaccinated, Chubb is eligible to rejoin the Browns as soon as he turns in two straight negative COVID-19 tests at least 24 hours apart, so he'll still have a chance to be available for the team's Week 10 game in New England on Sunday. If Chubb can't gain clearance, D'Ernest Johnson would likely step in as Cleveland's lead back against the Patriots, assuming Kareem Hunt (calf) isn't activated from injured reserve this week.
Nov 9, 2021
Tests positive for virus
Chubb tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday and is uncertain to be available for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Fellow running back Demetric Felton also tested positive for the virus, but because both he and Chubb are vaccinated, the two will have a chance to be available this weekend if they're able to submit two negative test results at least 24 hours apart. Cleveland will likely place Chubb on the reserve/COVID-19 list in the near future to provide the team with more roster flexibility in the short term, but if he clears all health and safety protocols before Sunday, the 26-year-old should remain on track to lead the Cleveland ground game. If not, D'Ernest Johnson would likely step in as the Browns' feature back, though it's possible Cleveland could get Kareem Hunt (calf) back from injured reserve this week as well if he resumes practicing and proves he's healthy.
Nov 7, 2021
Scores twice in blowout win
Chubb rushed 14 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns while catching both of his targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 41-16 win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Chubb gave the Browns a 14-7 second-quarter lead with a one-yard rushing touchdown, then burst past everybody for a 70-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put Cleveland up 31-10. While Chubb dominated, D'Ernest Johnson produced just 16 yards on eight rushing attempts. With Kareem Hunt (calf) expected to remain sidelined in Week 10 against the Patriots, Chubb should continue to see the majority of playing time in Cleveland's backfield, especially by the goal line.
Oct 31, 2021
Tough sledding in return
Chubb carried the ball 16 times for 61 yards and caught his only target for eight yards in Sunday's 15-10 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Returning to action after a two-game absence, Chubb saw most of the touches out of the Cleveland backfield but couldn't find much running room, and he saw D'Ernest Johnson vulture a touchdown in the third quarter. The 61 rushing yards were a season low for Chubb, who will look to rebound in Week 9 against the Bengals.
Oct 29, 2021
Clear to play Sunday
Chubb (calf) was a full practice participant Friday and doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game versus the Steelers, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was limited at practice Wednesday and Thursday after sitting out the past two games with the calf injury, but he practiced with no limitations Friday and avoided the questionable tag. The 25-year-old should operate in workhorse role with Kareem Hunt (calf) still on injured reserve, though D'Ernest Johnson, who had 168 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown Week 7, should still be involved as a secondary option in the backfield.
Oct 28, 2021
Still limited at practice
Chubb (calf) remained limited at practice Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb previously noted that he hopes to play this weekend against the Steelers, but his Week 8 availability hinges on how his calf responds to the work he's been getting at practice this week. It seems safe to assume he'll head into the weekend with an injury designation, but once Friday's practice is complete, we should have a better idea of the level of optimism attached to Chubb's status for Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff.
Oct 27, 2021
Returns to limited practice
Chubb (calf) logged a limited practice Wednesday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb didn't practice at all last week, so his limited participation Wednesday is a step in the right direction. The running back previously relayed that he hopes to play Sunday against the Steelers, but such an outcome hinges on how his calf responds to the work he does at practice this week. If Chubb remains out or is limited at all this weekend, D'Ernest Johnson would continue to see an expanded role in the Browns Week 8 rushing attack, with Kareem Hunt (calf) on IR.
Oct 27, 2021
Hopeful regarding Sunday status
Chubb hopes to play Sunday against the Steelers, but needs to see how his calf injury responds in practice this week, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
With that in mind, Chubb indicated that his calf feels good after getting some work in Monday, but how it holds up after Wednesday's practice should give him a better idea of where's he's at in advance of Week 8 action. Look for the running back, who has missed the Browns' last two games, to officially be listed as a limited participant when Wednesday's injury report is posted.
Oct 25, 2021
Expected to return Week 8
Chubb (calf) is expected to return to game action during Sunday's matchup against the Steelers, Josina Anderson of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb returned to practice Monday after missing the last two games due to a calf injury, but coach Kevin Stefanski has remained optimistic that the running back will be back on the field against Pittsburgh. The 2018 second-rounder is expected to suit up Sunday as long as he doesn't experience any setbacks in practice this week, and his presence would provide a significant boost to the team's rushing attack with Kareem Hunt (calf) sidelined.
Oct 25, 2021
Back at practice Monday
Chubb (calf) is participating in Monday's practice, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb has missed back-to-back contests due to a calf strain, but it looks like he's now progressing toward a return. Coach Kevin Stefanski also recently expressed optimism that Chubb could retake the field Week 8 against the Steelers, which would provide the team with a significant boost on offense. Though D'Ernest Johnson impressed with 146 rushing yards and a score versus the Broncos, the impact of Chubb's involvement in the ground attack can't be overstated for Cleveland, and getting consisted production between the tackles will be more key than ever if Baker Mayfield (shoulder) is again unavailable.
Oct 22, 2021
Coach hopeful for Week 8 return
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said he's hopeful that Chubb (calf) will be able to play in the team's Week 8 game against the Steelers on Oct. 31, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb sat out his second straight game Thursday due to his calf injury, and with Kareem Hunt landing on injured reserve earlier in the week with a calf strain of his own, it was D'Ernest Johnson who picked up the start at running back in the Browns' 17-14 win over the Broncos. Though Johnson (22 carries for 146 yards and a touchdown) did his part to keep the Cleveland ground game rolling, Stefanski would surely welcome the return of Chubb, who is averaging more than five yards per carry for the fourth consecutive season. Because of the longer turnaround for the Week 8 contest, the Browns will resume practicing Monday, so fantasy managers could gain some early clarity whether Chubb is trending toward a return to the lineup or a third consecutive absence.
Oct 19, 2021
Not playing Thursday
Coach Kevin Stefanski has ruled out Chubb (calf) for Thursday's contest against the Broncos, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns placed backfield mate Kareem Hunt (calf) on injured reserve earlier Tuesday, and now Chubb himself will miss a second game in a row. With the top pair on the pine, the team will turn to D'Ernest Johnson as the presumed starting running back Week 7, with Demetric Felton and John Kelly available behind him. Chubb's next chance to suit up will arrive Sunday, Oct. 31 versus the Steelers.
Oct 18, 2021
Opens week as DNP in practice
The Browns list Chubb (calf) as a non-participant on Monday's estimated practice report, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb missed his first game of the season in Sunday's 37-14 loss to the Cardinals, with the Browns turning to Kareem Hunt to replace him as the team's lead back. Hunt suffered a calf injury of his own in the contest that will likely keep him sidelined for 4-to-6 weeks, but Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski wasn't ready to rule Chubb out from returning to action Week 7 for a Thursday night matchup with the Broncos. Due to the short week, the Browns may not hold a traditional practice session until Wednesday, which could make it tough to gauge where Chubb stands in his recovery. Regardless, Chubb will likely need to bump up to at least limited participation on the practice report at some point over the next two days to have a realistic shot at playing Thursday. If Chubb joins Hunt on the sideline Week 7, the Browns will likely turn to D'Ernest Johnson and Demetric Felton to lead the backfield.
Oct 18, 2021
Not ruled out for TNF
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that he's not ruling Chubb (ankle) out for Thursday's game against the Broncos, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Nick Chubb's calf injury kept him from suiting up Week 6 versus the Cardinals, but with Kareem Hunt (calf) now expected to miss multiple weeks and be placed on IR, the Browns' backfield is in dire need of a boost. Not to mention, Baker Mayfield (shoulder) and Odell Beckham (shoulder) are both nursing injuries, while Jarvis Landry (knee) has yet to be brought back to the active roster.
Oct 17, 2021
IR move not in consideration
Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said Chubb (calf) won't be placed on injured reserve, and the running back hasn't been ruled out from returning to action Week 7 against the Broncos on Thursday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
While battling a calf injury, Chubb failed to practice in any fashion this week before being ruled out ahead of Sunday's home game against the Cardinals. The lack of recent on-field activity will make it difficult for Chubb to gain clearance for a Thursday night Week 7 contest, but the Browns appear content to view the 25-year-old as day-to-day rather than week-to-week at this time. Kareem Hunt (wrist/knee) is contending with a pair of injuries of his own and is listed as questionable for Sunday's contest, but he's expected to suit up against the Cardinals and serve as Cleveland's lead back while Chubb is sidelined.
Oct 15, 2021
Won't play in Week 6
Chubb (calf) won't play Sunday against the Cardinals, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb will thus target a potential return to action next Thursday when the Browns take on the Broncos. Assuming he's active, Kareem Hunt (wrist/knee) -- who is listed as questionable -- should be in line for a big workload Sunday, while Demetric Felton and D'Ernest Johnson work in complementary roles in Week 6.
Oct 15, 2021
Not seen at practice Friday
Chubb (calf) was absent from the portion of Friday's practice that was open to the media, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb has yet to practice this week while dealing with the calf issue, and it appears he's won't be participating again Friday. Kareem Hunt (wrist) is also banged up but was on the field for Friday's session. It remains to be seen if the injury will affect Chubb's availability for Sunday's matchup with the Cardinals.
Oct 14, 2021
Missing another practice
Chubb (calf) wasn't spotted at practice Thursday and is set to go down as a non-participant on the Browns' injury report, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb's absence from a second straight practice suggests his lack of reps Wednesday may not have only been for maintenance purposes. Though the Browns provided no indication that Chubb was bothered by the calf injury Week 5 on his way to rumbling for a season-high 161 yards in a loss to the Chargers, the running back's status for a Week 6 matchup with the Cardinals is in question. If Chubb is able to get back on the practice field Friday in at least a limited capacity, it would alleviate some concern about his availability for Sunday's game, but he could still still take a designation into that contest.
Oct 13, 2021
Not practicing Wednesday
Chubb (calf) won't practice Wednesday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
The same applies to Kareem Hunt (wrist, knee). At this point it remains to be seen if the duo's absence Wednesday could impact their availability for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, but it's plausible that their practice reps are simply being managed. In this past Sunday's 47-42 loss to the Chargers, Chubb logged 40 snaps, en route to carrying 21 times for 161 yards and a TD and catching his only target for nine yards. Thursday's practice report should add a degree of clarity with regard to the Week 6 status of both players.
Oct 3, 2021
Hits century mark in win
Chubb rushed 21 times for 100 yards and brought in his only target for five yards in the Browns' 14-7 win over the Vikings on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb came through with his first 100-yard effort of the season after gaining at least 83 yards on the ground in each of his first three games. The fourth-year back came close to recording his fourth touchdown of the season on a late second-quarter drive, but he was stuffed at the Vikings' two-yard line. Chubb will look to build on another strong fantasy effort when he tangles with the Chargers defense on the road in Week 5.
Sep 26, 2021
Workmanlike effort in Week 3 win
Chubb rushed 22 times for 84 yards in the Browns' 26-6 win over the Bears on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
It was about as vanilla a stat line as one will see from Chubb in a game where he put up a solid day on the ground, as the star running back is often good for a score. However, backfield mate Kareem Hunt was the more efficient of the two Sunday, posting 155 total yards and a rushing TD while Chubb failed to draw a target for the first time all season. Chubb's solid, albeit unremarkable, Week 3 stat line aside, he'll look to make up for his first touchdown-less game of the season in a Week 4 road matchup with the Vikings.
Sep 19, 2021
Salvages fantasy day late
Chubb rushed 11 times for 95 yards and a touchdown and secured his only target for three yards in the Browns' 31-21 win over the Texans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was having an efficient but relatively non-descript day against a vulnerable Texans run defense until he exploded for a 26-yard touchdown run with just under six minutes remaining to give Cleveland some valuable breathing room after Houston had closed to within 24-21. The reduced workload on the ground Sunday was a disappointment for fantasy managers, especially considering Kareem Hunt outpaced Chubb by a pair of carries. That could well prove to be an anomaly based on each player's past usage, as Chubb's fantasy managers will hope is quickly proven out in a Week 3 home battle against the Bears.
Sep 12, 2021
Finds end zone twice in loss
Chubb carried the ball 15 times for 83 yards and two touchdowns and caught both his targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 33-29 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old found the end zone twice in the first half as the Browns built a 22-10 lead, but the defense couldn't keep Patrick Mahomes down for a full 60 minutes. Chubb saw 17 touches to Kareem Hunt's nine on the afternoon, a ratio that would provide a big boost to Chubb's fantasy potential if it holds for the rest of 2021. He could be poised for another big game in Week 2 at home against the Texans.
Aug 30, 2021
Sits out preseason finale
Chubb did not play in Sunday's 19-10 win over the Falcons in preseason Week 3.
ANALYSIS
Some of the Browns regulars got work Sunday -- quarterback Baker Mayfield, running back Kareem Hunt -- but Chubb was given a pass. Chubb made zero headlines during training camp, which is a good thing. He and the Browns will begin preparations for Week 1 of the regular season at Kansas City.
Jul 31, 2021
Inks three-year extension
Chubb and the Browns agreed to a three-year, $36.6 million extension Saturday that includes $20 million guaranteed, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2018 second-round pick was entering the final year of his rookie deal, but he's now under contract with Cleveland through the 2024 campaign. Chubb played in 12 games last year and ran for 1,067 yards and 12 touchdowns on 5.6 yards per carry after breaking out with 1,494 rushing yards in 2019. He's projected to remain one of the top running backs in the league for the foreseeable future despite Kareem Hunt also being in the backfield mix.
Jun 16, 2021
Wants to remain a Brown
Chubb indicated he wants to remain a member of the Browns after his rookie contract expires in 2021, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports. "It would mean a lot," Chubb said Chubb. "Cleveland is where I want to be. Hopefully everything can work out in that direction."
ANALYSIS
Chubb added that his agent and the team have already discussed a potential extension this offseason. He's been a key component of Cleveland's offense since he arrived as a second-round pick in 2018, but it was the 2020 season behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and as part of a run-heavy offense that solidified his desire to remain with Cleveland.
Jan 17, 2021
Limited impact in postseason exit
Chubb rushed 13 times for 69 yards and caught two of five targets for four yards in Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Chiefs in the AFC divisional round.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was bottled up in the first half, mustering just 12 yards on five carries and three targets. He finally got going on Cleveland's first touchdown drive in the third quarter, ripping off runs of 23 and 18 yards on consecutive plays to set up a Jarvis Landry touchdown catch. Chubb also converted a 4th-and-1 later in the quarter, reestablishing himself as the leading figure in the Browns' offense. Even with Kareem Hunt -- who scored a fourth-quarter rushing touchdown -- siphoning off a sizable chunk of touches in Cleveland's backfield, Chubb has established himself as one of the premier running backs in the league with consecutive seasons over 1,000 rushing yards and over 5.0 yards per carry.
Jan 10, 2021
Notches 40-yard receiving TD
Chubb ran for 76 yards on 18 carries, hauling in all four of his targets for 69 yards and a receiving touchdown during Sunday's 48-37 wild-card win against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Having paced the NFL with 4.0 yards per carry after contact this season, Chubb netted his second consecutive 1,000-yard rushing campaign despite missing Weeks 5 through 8 because of a sprained MCL in his right knee. He also entered the playoffs with an astounding seven rushing TDs over his final six regular-season outings. After chalking up 108 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries against Pittsburgh last Sunday afternoon, Chubb rumbled for 17 yards on his opening carry of the wild-card round, following that up with a 20-yard scamper the very next play. He made a vital contribution in the passing game, with his 40-yard receiving score in the fourth quarter shifting the tide back in Cleveland's favor for good. A divisional-round matchup against the Chiefs offers a challenge, as Kansas City held opponents to 90 or fewer rushing yards in five of its final seven regular-season games.
Jan 3, 2021
Tops 1,000 yards on ground
Chubb carried the ball 14 times for 108 yards and a touchdown in Week 17 against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Chubb topped 1,000 rushing yards on the season with his third carry of the game -- a 47-yard touchdown. That feat is even more impressive given that Chubb missed four contests with a knee injury, beginning in Week 5. He closed the season strong upon his return, topping 100 total yards in all but two of his last eight efforts. He'll play a key role in the Browns' potential playoff success and will continue to lead the team's backfield.
Dec 27, 2020
Finds end zone in loss
Chubb rushed 11 times for 28 yards and a touchdown while catching all five of his targets for 38 yards in Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was bottled up in the first half, mustering only six yards on eight carries as Cleveland fell into a 13-3 hole. The team largely abandoned the run while playing catch-up after halftime, but Chubb managed to salvage his day with a one-yard touchdown late in the third quarter. He also set a new season high with five catches. Chubb should see a heavier workload on the ground in Week 17 as the Browns try to break a 17-year playoff drought against Pittsburgh.
Dec 21, 2020
Scores from in close on SNF
Chubb rushed 15 times for 50 yards and a touchdown while catching both of his targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 20-6 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Chubb punched in a one-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to salvage what would have been a mediocre outing in a favorable matchup (Giants rank 20th in points allowed to opposing running backs). It was the first time the star back was held under 4.0 yards per carry in a game this season (3.3), which is especially surprising when factoring in that he entered the contest with a league-best mark of 5.9 yards per tote. The fact that Sunday's modest output is considered a "bad game" is a great indicator of the elite level Chubb has been performing at in 2020. The 24-year-old will look to break the 1,000-yard mark in rushing yards (10 starts) when the Browns take on the AFC version of New York's football club Sunday.
Dec 15, 2020
Scores twice in narrow defeat
Chubb rushed 17 times for 82 yards and two touchdowns in Monday night's 47-42 loss to the Ravens. He also caught both of his targets for 21 yards.
ANALYSIS
Chubb set the tone for the Browns in the first half, scoring from seven yards to cap Cleveland's opening drive before punching it in from 14 yards prior to halftime. The tailback kept it going in the second half, although teammate Kareem Hunt scored twice when Chubb came out. Despite Hunt's presence, Chubb has been dominant this season, and has been particularly hot lately. Over his last five outings, the 24-year-old is averaging nearly 110 rushing yards and has scored five times. That puts Chubb in great form ahead of Sunday's game at the Giants.
Dec 6, 2020
Tallies seventh touchdown
Chubb rushed the ball 18 times for 80 yards and a touchdown in Week 13 against the Titans. He also chipped in one reception for 26 yards.
ANALYSIS
Chubb's workload was a bit lighter than past weeks as the Browns jumped out to a 38-7 lead. He still managed to make the most of his opportunity, highlighted by a run of 29 yards as well as a one-yard rushing touchdown. Also positive was Chubb's work as a receiver, converting a screen pass into a 26-yard gain midway through the first quarter. Despite missing four games due to a knee injury, Chubb now has seven touchdowns and 874 total yards. He'll run into a tough Ravens defense in Week 14.
Nov 29, 2020
Dominates Jaguars on ground
Chubb carried the ball 19 times for 144 yards and a touchdown in Week 12 against Jacksonville. He added three receptions for 32 yards.
ANALYSIS
Chubb averaged 7.6 yards per carry on the strength of five rushes that went for more than 10 yards. He added onto his big day with a one-yard rushing score for his sixth touchdown of the season. Uncharacteristically, Chubb also chipped in a significant amount as a receiver, highlighted by receptions of 14 and 13 yards. Though Kareem Hunt continues to cut into Chubb's workload, Chubb has topped 100 rushing yards in all three of his contests since returning from a knee injury. He'll draw a matchup against the Titans in Week 13.
Nov 22, 2020
Records fourth 100-yard game
Chubb carried 20 times for 114 yards during Sunday's 22-17 win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was bottled up in the early going but padded his stat line quite a bit with an explosive 54-yard run in the fourth quarter. He was held out of the end zone and wasn't targeted in the passing game, giving him a respectable yet mundane fantasy line despite the strong effort in a tough matchup. Chubb has surpassed the 100-yard mark in four of his six games this season, scoring five touchdowns as well, and he should thrive on the ground next Sunday against a hapless Jaguars defense.
Nov 15, 2020
Shines in return
Chubb (knee) rushed 19 times for 126 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 10-7 win over Houston. He failed to catch his lone target.
ANALYSIS
In his first action since Week 4, Chubb was involved from the get-go, rushing four times for 19 yards to help set up a field goal on the opening drive. Those were the only points scored by either team until Chubb extended Cleveland's lead to 10-0 with a nine-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Kareem Hunt was the preferred option with the Browns running out the clock on the final drive and finished with 132 scrimmage yards on 19 carries and three catches, but this game was further proof that it's possible for both of Cleveland's running backs to be productive simultaneously, even on a modest day for the offense as a whole. Last season's second-leading rusher has been fantastic when healthy, as Chubb has 461 yards and five touchdown on the ground in less than five full games played this season.

Should lead Week 10 backfield
Chubb (knee) is expected to handle the bulk of the carries for the Browns in his first game back from injured reserve Sunday against the Texans, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After missing four games with a sprained MCL in his right knee, Chubb proved his health upon rejoining the Browns for practice this week. He was notably able to take part in all drills during Thursday's workout, prompting the Browns to activate him from IR on Saturday. Though Kareem Hunt was effective in Chubb's stead and remains on hand as a high-quality change-of-pace option, the Browns apparently aren't planning on putting Chubb on any sort of "pitch count" in his return to the lineup. With heavy winds in the forecast for Cleveland on Sunday, expect the Browns to favor a run-heavy game plan that will seemingly be headlined by Chubb.

Activated off IR, will play
Chubb (knee) will be activated off injured reserve and play in Sunday's game against the Texans, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Kevin Stefanski suggested Chubb would need to receive approval from the medical staff to play so Saturday's designation should give fantasy managers plenty of confidence to insert the star running back into their lineup. It's entirely possible the Browns could still be cautious with Chubb's workload, particularly with Kareem Hunt's more-than-adequate foray as the starter, but it's hard to believe the team would activate Chubb if they didn't plan to play in some capacity. The matchup certainly couldn't be much better to get Chubb some confidence as the Texans allow the most rushing yards per game in the NFL.

Status for Week 10 still TBD
Coach Kyle Stefanski said Friday that he'll wait until meeting with Cleveland's medical staff to decide whether Chubb (knee) will play against the Texans on Sunday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Stefanski added that Chubb, who shed his right knee brace Thursday and participated in all individual drills, has hit all necessary milestones and avoided any setbacks. The Browns could still opt to take a cautious approach to Chubb's recovery and allow him another week of rest, but the 24-year-old's chances of returning Sunday at least look encouraging. In order for Chubb to be available against the Texans, the Browns would need to officially add him to the 53-man roster by Saturday afternoon. Through the first four games of the season, Chubb scored four rushing TDs and was averaging an outstanding 5.9 YPC.
Nov 13, 2020
Participates in all drills
Chubb (knee) executed several individual drills during Thursday's practice, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
The news that Chubb shed the brace on his right knee was encouraging, and the running back looked good while participating in individuals, including catching passes, running in short bursts and making cuts. The quick cut ability is generally a good indicator of back's readiness for game action. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is hopeful Chubb will play Week 10 against the Texans' 32nd-ranked rushing defense (159.5 YPG).
Nov 12, 2020
Sheds knee brace
Chubb is practicing without a brace on his right knee Thursday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb has by all accounts looked good since returning to practice Monday, and that he's now managed to shed his knee brace is another positive sign. The Browns are expected to decide whether to activate Chubb from injured reserve in time to play Week 10 on Friday, per Jake Trotter of ESPN.com. An MCL sprain in his right knee has kept the Pro Bowl running back off the field since Week 4.
Nov 11, 2020
Call on status expected Friday
Coach Kevin Stefanski indicated that Chubb (knee) is "progressing," while adding that the Browns will make a call Friday on whether the running back will play Sunday against the Texans, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb, who the Browns have designated for return from IR, is slated to continue practicing Wednesday and it looks as though he could be added to the team's active roster ahead of Week 10 action. If so, he'd rejoin a backfield that also includes Kareem Hunt, who's handled the bulk of the team's running back duties while Chubb has been sidelined, particularly over the past couple of contests.
Nov 9, 2020
Looks sharp in return to practice
Chubb (knee) is taking part in individual drills while wearing a brace on his right knee at Monday's practice, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
The Browns designated Chubb for return from injured reserve Monday, and Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the 24-year-old managed to show off his agility in his first practice activity since Week 4. It looks as though Chubb is trending in the right direction to potentially retake the field against Houston on Sunday, though the Browns would first have to officially re-add him to the 53-man roster. It remains to be seen whether Cleveland will ease Chubb back into action when he does retake the field, or if he'll handle a full workload alongside Kareem Hunt.
Nov 9, 2020
Designated for return to practice
The Browns designated Chubb (knee) for return from injured reserve Monday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb's recovery timeframe puts him on track to resume practicing this week and potentially retake the field against Houston on Sunday, and being designated to return from IR is the first step in that process. A sprained MCL in his right knee has sidelined Chubb since Week 4, during which time Kareem Hunt has functioned as Cleveland's primary ballcarrier. Once Chubb is back at full strength, he and Hunt stand to resume functioning as a lethal tandem.
Nov 8, 2020
In line to practice this week
Chubb (knee) is expected to practice this week with the intention to return next Sunday against the Texans, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Kevin Stefanski termed Chubb day-to-day as the Browns commenced their Week 9 bye, forecasting that he was progressing toward his first game action since Week 4. In that contest, Chubb suffered a sprained MCL in his right knee and subsequently given a six-week recovery timetable. It remains to be seen how much work he'll get once he's back on the field, but the Browns could employ a more even split with Kareem Hunt until Chubb is back to full health.
Nov 2, 2020
On track for Week 10
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Chubb (knee) is progressing and is considered day-to-day heading into the Week 9 bye, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb continues to hit every checkpoint and is expected to return for the Week 10 matchup against the Texans. The third-year running back averaged 17.3 touches per game prior to the injury, and he should return to his typical tandem with Kareem Hunt once he's fully healthy.
Oct 26, 2020
Could return Week 10
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Chubb (knee) won't be ready for Sunday's game against the Raiders but will be evaluated after the Browns' bye in Week 9, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Stefanski also said that Chubb remains on schedule in his recovery from an MCL sprain in his right knee. The standout running back was initially handed a six-week recovery timeframe for his injury, so a return for Cleveland's Week 10 matchup against the Texans would put him right on track. When healthy, Chubb stands to reprise his usual role as the first option in a lethal backfield tandem alongside Kareem Hunt, who's on track for at least one more contest as the Browns' unquestioned top ballcarrier.
Oct 21, 2020
Recovery progressing on track
Running back coach Stump Mitchell said that Chubb (knee) is doing well in his recovery and has attended all team meetings since being placed on IR on Oct. 5, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb is two weeks into the expected six-week recovery timetable he was handed upon originally spraining the MCL in his right knee. It's encouraging to see that the 24-year-old has avoided any setbacks in his recovery thus far, a hint that fantasy managers can still anticipate him making a return mid-November. Until such time as Chubb does return, however, Kareem Hunt (ribs) will remain the Browns' clear top backfield weapon.
Oct 5, 2020
Officially moves to IR
The Browns officially placed Chubb (knee) on injured reserve Monday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was forced out of Sunday's win over the Cowboys due to a right MCL sprain, the severity of which is now expected to sideline him for roughly six weeks. It's a good sign, at least, that the star running back will avoid surgery and is expected to return this season. In the meantime, Kareem Hunt will take over as Cleveland's clear top running back. D'Ernest Johnson, who impressed in relief of Chubb in Week 4 and turned 13 carries into 95 yards, could also have a shot at seeing enough work to attain fantasy relevance in Cleveland's high-powered ground game.
Oct 5, 2020
Expected to miss six weeks
The Browns' medical staff expects Chubb (knee) to miss roughly six weeks due to his MCL sprain, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb has a history of serious knee injuries, so it's relieving to hear that he's avoided a season-ending issue after being forced out of Sunday's win over the Cowboys. Still, it now looks as though the Browns will be forced to roll with Kareem Hunt as the lead ball carrier until November. D'Ernest Johnson will be a candidate to mix in for backfield work in the meantime, and the team could also see fit to add another running back to the roster. Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports that Chubb won't need to undergo surgery to facilitate his recovery.
Oct 5, 2020
Avoids season-ending injury
Coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that the results of Chubb's MRI revealed an MCL injury that will cause him to spend "several weeks" on IR, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb will be required to spend at least three weeks on injured reserve, though it sounds like the Browns could be without him for longer than that. In the meantime, Kareem Hunt will take over as the top man in Cleveland's backfield. D'Ernest Johnson, who translated 13 carries into 95 yards after Chubb was forced out of Sunday's win over the Cowboys, may also continue seeing increased touches.
Oct 4, 2020
Will undergo MRI
Chubb will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the knee injury he suffered in Sunday's 49-38 win over the Cowboys, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's too soon to know if Chubb will be forced to miss any additional game action, but if he does, both Kareem Hunt and D'Ernest Johnson would be in line for added touches out of the Cleveland backfield.
Oct 4, 2020
Won't return to Sunday's contest
Chubb (knee) won't return to Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
With Chubb -- who carried six times for 43 yards prior to his exit -- now out for the day, the Browns' Week 4 backfield duties will be handled by the duo of Kareem Hunt and D'Ernest Johnson. Given that Hunt is already rostered in most leagues, Johnson could be a useful waiver-wire add in advance of Week 5, in the event that Chubb is forced to miss any time with his knee issue.
Oct 4, 2020
Exits Sunday's game
Chubb was forced out of Sunday's game against the Cowboys with a knee injury.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit, Chubb had logged six carries for 43 yards. Next up for the Browns' carries in his absence is Kareem Hunt.
Sep 27, 2020
Another two scores
Chubb carried the ball 19 times for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the team's Week 3 win over Washington. He also added one reception for two yards.
ANALYSIS
Chubb saw just over half of the team's 37 rushing attempts and made the most of his opportunities. He punched in his first score midway through the second quarter from 16 yards out and followed that up with a 20-yard trip to the end zone to help clinch the win the in the final quarter. While Kareem Hunt continues to earn plenty of work out of Cleveland's backfield, Chubb has shown the skill to produce even with the split workload by averaging 5.8 yards per rush through three games.
Sep 18, 2020
Scores twice in Week 2 win
Chubb rushed 22 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns and brought in his only target for nine yards in the Browns' 35-30 win over the Bengals on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Chubb and backfield mate Kareem Hunt put on a clinic against the porous Bengals front seven, with the two combining for an average of 6.6 yards per rush on 32 carries. For his part, Chubb saw a nice bump in workload for a Game 1 tally of 10 carries, and this time, he comfortably outpaced Hunt in that department by 12 rushing touches overall after having trailed his teammate by three against Baltimore four days earlier. The third-year pro's 11-yard trip to the end zone in the first quarter opened the scoring on the night for Cleveland, and Chubb later added a one-yard touchdown in the latter stages of the third quarter to extend the Browns' lead to double digits. The fact the Week 2 rushing workload tilted much heavier in Chubb's direction had to elicit a sigh of relief from fantasy mangers for the time being, and the Georgia product will look to put together a successful encore at the expense of the Washington Football Team in a Week 3 home battle on Sunday, Sept. 27.
Sep 13, 2020
Limited workload in Week 1 loss
Chubb rushed 10 times for 60 yards and brought in his only target for six yards in the Browns' 38-6 loss to the Ravens on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Chubb saw backfield mate Kareem Hunt outpace him by three carries, and given that the unexpected workload split unfolded in the first game under a new head coach/coordinator, it certainly is a situation at least worth monitoring heading into Week 2. There certainly was noting amiss with Chubb's efficiency, however, as his 6.0 yards per carry against an elite defense was highlighted by an impressive 29-yard run. Chubb did cough up the ball with four seconds remaining in the third quarter, although the Browns were already down 31-6 at the time. The third-year back will look to build on his solid numbers with a bigger share of touches in a Thursday night AFC North battle against the Bengals in Week 2.

Clears concussion protocol
Chubb has cleared concussion protocol and will practice Saturday, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Less than a week after leaving practice early following a hard tackle from teammate Mack Wilson, Chubb will return to the practice field having cleared concussion protocol. The star running back figures to be in line for an excellent 2020 campaign behind a rebuilt offensive line and alongside head coach Kevin Stefanski who made Dalvin Cook a top-tier fantasy asset during his tenure with the Vikings.
Aug 19, 2020
Back in building
Chubb (concussion) has been at the Browns' headquarters since suffering a concussion Monday, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb is not cleared to return, but his presence in the building is a positive sign. While he takes the time in concussion protocol, Kareem Hunt gets first-team reps as the top running back.
Aug 18, 2020
In concussion protocol
Coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Tuesday that Chubb is in the NFL's concussion protocol, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb will thus be held out of practice Tuesday and we'll consider the Browns' top running back day-to-day. In his absence, Kareem Hunt figures to take the team's first-team backfield reps.
Aug 17, 2020
Exits with possible concussion
The Browns are evaluating Chubb for a possible concussion after he was on the receiving end of a hard tackle from teammate Mack Wilson during Monday's padded practice, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
The incident occurred when Chubb reeled in a short pass before being met by Wilson, who hit him around the shoulder area. Chubb walked off the field with a trainer by his side and didn't return to the practice, the Browns' first padded session of training camp. He'll presumably go through testing over the next day or two before the Browns determine whether he's fit to return to practice or if he'll need to remain in the NFL's concussion protocol.
Aug 11, 2020
Ready to share with Hunt
Chubb says he's excited to work with Kareem Hunt in the Cleveland backfield, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
ANALYSIS
Chubb was averaging 19.3 carries and 4.0 targets per game at the midway point of 2019, before dropping to 18.0 carriers and 2.1 targets over the final eight weeks with Hunt in the lineup. That still left Chubb as one of the more heavily used runners in the NFL, with the Browns even utilizing formations that put him on the field at the same time as Hunt. It isn't clear if those two-back looks will be popular under new coach Kevin Stefanski, who takes over an offense that added TE Austin Hooper and FB Andy Janovich during the offseason. It's thus fair to wonder if Chubb could drop down closer to 15 carries per game, though his performance to this point in his career certainly justifies larger workloads. As such, the backfield split between Chubb and Hunt will be one of the major fantasy storylines to monitor early in the season.
