Noah Fant Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Patriots vs Bengals game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 16, 2025
Catches five passes in loss
Fant caught five of six targets for 36 yards in the Bengals' 34-12 loss to the Steelers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Fant's six targets were fourth-most on the team, trailing Ja'Marr Chase (10), Tee Higgins and Chase Brown, who each drew eight looks. With Mike Gesicki (pectoral) on injured reserve, Fant has been more of a factor in the passing game since Gesicki went down in Week 6. In the four games since, Fant has secured 14 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 16 targets. Fant isn't an exciting fantasy target ahead of next Sunday's game against the Patriots.
Nov 5, 2025
Finds end zone in loss
Fant caught two of three targets for 28 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 47-42 loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Fant played 31 of the Bengals' 68 offensive snaps Sunday, tied with fellow tight end Drew Sample. The veteran was targeted three times for the second straight week, and his touchdown marked his third trip to the end zone this season. With wide receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins commanding most of the target share in Cincinnati's offense, Fant continues to profile as a touchdown-dependent option at the tight end position. The 27-year-old will look to build off his latest performance when the Bengals come out of their Week 10 bye to face the Steelers in Week 11.
Oct 26, 2025
Three catches in loss to Jets
Fant caught all three of his targets for 41 yards in Sunday's 39-38 loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Fant tied for second on the team in targets, but 19 of Joe Flacco's 34 passes were directed toward Ja'Marr Chase. Fant has found success since Mike Gesicki (pectoral) went on injured reserve prior to Week 7 against the Steelers, catching all seven of his targets for 85 yards and a touchdown across two subsequent games. Fant will try to surpass 40 receiving yards for a third consecutive game in Week 9 against the Bears.
Oct 17, 2025
Scores TD in high-scoring victory
Fant secured all four targets for 44 yards and a touchdown in the Bengals' 33-31 win over the Steelers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
With Mike Gesicki (pectoral) hitting injured reserve earlier in the week, Fant stepped into the top tight-end role Thursday night and made good use of the opportunity. Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins were the focal points of the air attack, but Fant was an effective complementary option while posting a new season high in receiving yards and scoring his second touchdown of the campaign on a five-yard catch on the first play of the fourth quarter. Fant should remain the top pass-catching option at his position while Gesicki is sidelined, and his next opportunity to fill that role comes in a Week 8 home matchup against the Jets on Sunday, Oct. 26.
Oct 15, 2025
Opportunity knocks
Fant is primed to handle additional snaps, routes and targets beginning Thursday versus the Steelers with Cincinnati having placed Mike Gesicki (pectoral) on injured reserve.
ANALYSIS
Fant played 50 percent of offensive snaps and secured all four of his targets for 27 yards during the Bengals' loss to the Packers in Week 6, showing solid chemistry with new quarterback Joe Flacco. Gesicki played just two offensive snaps before being forced out versus Green Bay, so it's reasonable to project Fant for a similar role, at the least, at home against Pittsburgh on Thursday Night Football. With reserve tight end Tanner Hudson (concussion) out Thursday, it's possible Fant benefits from another uptick in opportunities as Cincinnati's top TE.
Oct 13, 2025
Secures all four targets
Fant caught all four of his targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 28-17 loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Fant saw an uptick in target opportunities with Joe Flacco under center, though his increased workload can also be contextualized by the departure of Mike Gesicki (pectoral) in the second quarter. In the event that Gesicki is unable to suit up Thursday versus the Steelers on a short week of rest, Fant will get a chance to handle No. 1 tight end duties, making him a potential streaming option for fantasy purposes. Notably, reserve tight end Tanner Hudson drew five targets versus Green Bay, securing four of them for 10 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Oct 7, 2025
Shut out versus Lions
Fant didn't have a catch or even a target in Sunday's loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Fant was coming back from a concussion after missing Week 4's loss to the Broncos. He only played 15 offensive snaps, but that's not out of the line with the previous two games he played in, when he played 17 and 18 snaps respectively against Jacksonville and Minnesota.
Oct 3, 2025
Cleared for Sunday
Fant (concussion) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Lions.
ANALYSIS
After being listed as limited on Wednesday's practice estimate, Fant practiced fully Thursday and Friday, and has been cleared to return to the lineup after missing Monday night's loss to the Broncos. In three games to date, Fant has compiled a 12/80/1 receiving line on 14 targets, a pace that keeps him on the Week 5 fantasy radar, especially with four teams on bye.
Oct 2, 2025
Logs full practice Thursday
Fant (concussion) practiced fully Thursday.
ANALYSIS
After being listed as limited on Wednesday's practice estimate, Fant's full participation a day later has him trending toward returning to the lineup Sunday against the Lions. Friday's final injury report will determine whether the tight end -- who has 12 catches for 80 yards and a TD on 14 targets through three games -- heads into the weekend with a designation.
Oct 1, 2025
Estimated as limited in practice
Fant (concussion) was listed as limited on Wednesday's practice estimate, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant didn't practice last week before being ruled out for Monday night's loss to the Broncos, but the tight end's limited listing on Wednesday's estimate suggests that he has a chance to be cleared to play in advance of Sunday's game against the Lions. He'll have two more chances to upgrade his participation level before the Bengals post their final Week 5 injury designations.
Sep 27, 2025
Won't play against Denver
Fant (concussion) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Fant entered the league's concussion protocol following the Bengals' Week 3 loss to the Vikings. He was unable to practice all week, and as a result he'll be in street clothes for Monday's contest. With Fant out, Drew Sample and Mike Gesicki will serve as the Bengals top tight ends while Tanner Hudson and Cam Grandy operate in a rotational role against Denver. Fant's next opportunity to play is Week 5 against the Lions on Sunday, Oct. 5.
Sep 26, 2025
Misses another practice
Fant (concussion) didn't practice Friday.
ANALYSIS
With 'DNPs' Thursday and Friday in the book, Fant has one more chance to practice before the Bengals release their final injury report Saturday. If the tight end is unable to gain clearance to play Monday night against the Broncos, Mike Gesicki, Drew Sample, Tanner Hudson and Cam Grandy would be available to handle TE duties versus Miami. Of that group, Gesicki profiles as the upside fantasy play in Week 4.
Sep 25, 2025
Logs DNP on Thursday
Fant (concussion) did not practice Thursday, Ben Baby of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran tight end was concussed in last Sunday's loss to the Vikings and is in the league's concussion protocol ahead of Monday night's game against the Broncos. If Fant is unable to go, Mike Gesicki and Tanner Hudson would be in line for elevated pass-catching snaps while Drew Sample would handle blocking duties at the position.
Sep 21, 2025
Done for the day
Fant (concussion) won't return to Sunday's game against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Fant ends his Sunday with five catches (on five targets) for 26 yards, and will now look to gain medical clearance ahead of the Bengals' Sept. 29 game against the Broncos. For the remainder of Week 3's contest, Mike Gesicki, Drew Sample and Cam Grandy are the team's available TEs.
Sep 21, 2025
Exits Sunday's game
Fant left Sunday's game against the Vikings with a possible concussion.
ANALYSIS
Prior to that, Fant caught all five of his targets for 26 yards. With Fant sidelined, Mike Gesicki, Drew Sample and Cam Grandy are available to handle the Bengals' TE duties versus Minnesota.
Sep 14, 2025
Shared tight end duties
Fant had three catches for 28 yards on four targets in Sunday's win over the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Through two games, Fant and Mike Gesicki seem to be sharing the tight end pass-catching duties fairly evenly, and are frequently on the field at the same time.
Sep 8, 2025
Finds end zone in Cincy debut
Fant recorded four receptions on five targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 17-16 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Fant joined the Bengals in late July and was projected to work behind Mike Gesicki. However, Fant had a significant role in Cincinnati's Week 1 win, as he led the team in targets and receptions. He also accounted for the only receiving score for the team on a one-yard catch late in the second quarter. Fant's usage is likely to decline in future weeks, but this performance at least lands him on the fantasy radar.
Aug 19, 2025
Not targeted in preseason win
Fant didn't get any targets in Monday's preseason win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Fant was part of a TE rotation for the first-string offense, mostly playing alongside Drew Sample in two-TE sets, while Tanner Hudson filled in for Mike Gesicki (hamstring) and got a lot of the work in passing situations with three wide receivers. None of the bunch is likely to have an every-down role in the regular season, nor anything close to it.
Aug 16, 2025
Preseason debut on top
Fant will make his preseason debut with the Bengals during Monday's game against the Commanders, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant inked with Cincinnati on July 31 and hadn't picked up enough of the playbook to suit up for the team's preseason opener against Philadelphia on Aug. 5, but he's now acclimated enough to take on exhibition reps. With Mike Gesicki (hamstring) ruled out for Monday's matchup, Fant could get the start at tight end while all of Drew Sample, Tanner Hudson, Tanner McLachlan and Cam Grandy work in behind him.
Aug 5, 2025
Won't play Thursday
Fant is still learning the playbook and won't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles, SI.com's James Rapien reports.
ANALYSIS
Mike Gesicki's hamstring injury may help Fant get more first-team reps in practice, but that apparently won't carry over to the first preseason game, one week after Fant signed with Cincinnati. The Bengals will instead rely on Drew Sample, Tanner Hudson, Tanner McLachlan and Cam Grandy at tight end Thursday night.
Jul 31, 2025
Officially signs with Bengals
The Bengals officially signed Fant on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Fant, who recorded a 48/500/1 receiving line in 14 regular-season games with the Seahawks in 2024, bolsters a Bengals tight end corps that also includes Mike Gesicki, who caught 65 passes for Cincinnati last season. With star wideouts Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins also around to command plenty of targets, Fant may not initially have a path to steady volume, but the 2019 first-rounder would quickly find himself on the fantasy lineup radar if Gesicki were forced to the sideline at any point this season.
Jul 31, 2025
In line to join Bengals
Fant is expected to sign with the Bengals after both sides came to terms Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant's first visit as a free agent after being released by Seattle was to Cincinnati, and though he subsequently met with New Orleans and Miami, the 2019 first-round pick now appears set to join Mike Gesicki atop the Bengals' tight end depth chart. The fit is somewhat intriguing, as Fant boasts receiving chops and now joins a prolific passing game, but he faces a murky role and may have to settle for a definitive depth gig behind Gesicki, whom Cincinnati inked to a three-year, $25.5 million extension this offseason.
Jul 28, 2025
Meeting with Miami
Fant will meet with the Dolphins on Monday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks released Fant last week, freeing up cap space while allowing AJ Barner and Elijah Arroyo to compete for a starting job. This is Fant's third reported visit in a five-day stretch, after he met with the Bengals and Saints late last week.
Jul 25, 2025
Visiting Saints next
Fant is scheduled to visit the Saints after meeting with the Bengals on Thursday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks released Fant on Sunday, freeing up cap space while allowing AJ Barner and Elijah Arroyo to compete for a starting job. It hasn't taken long for Fant to drum up interest; he's already making his rounds with the NFL's TE-needy teams. The Bengals and Saints both have decent pass-catching tight ends, but with not much depth behind Mike Gesicki and Juwan Johnson, respectively.
Jul 23, 2025
Visit set with Bengals
Fant has a visit scheduled with the Bengals on Thursday, NFL reporter Jordan Schultz reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant was released by the Seahawks on Sunday, but it may not take him much time to find a new home. His potential fit in Cincinnati would be interesting, as he'd join a prolific offense but also step into an uncertain role with Mike Gesicki also on the roster. Fant played a career-low 533 offensive snaps in 2024, and he may find a regular role difficult to earn regardless of where he lands.
Jul 20, 2025
Let go by Seattle
Fant was released by the Seahawks on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant spent the past three seasons in Seattle after being acquired in the trade that sent Russell Wilson to Denver in 2022. The 27-year-old tight end was the Broncos' first-round pick in 2019, but he logged three mediocre seasons as a pass catcher for the Seahawks. Fant never recorded more than 50 catches or 500 receiving yards over the past three years, and he totaled just five touchdowns while appearing in 48 regular-season games during that stretch, including just one score last year. Fant's release will open up some cap space for the Seahawks, as he was due $8.5 million in non-guaranteed salary in 2025, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. His departure will also open up more opportunities for rookie second-round pick Elijah Arroyo, 2024 fourth-rounder AJ Barner and veteran Eric Saubert, who signed with the Seahawks this offseason.
Apr 28, 2025
Competition arrives via draft
Fant could face competition for the starting job after the Seahawks selected Elijah Arroyo (knee) in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
A 2019 first-round pick, Fant's career has never truly taken off, as his best marks for receiving were in 2020 when he posted a 62-673-3 line, and he has scored just one touchdown over the past two seasons with the Seahawks. Thus, it's not surprising that the Seahawks addressed tight end early in the draft after also taking AJ Barner in the fourth round last year. Arroyo may take some time to develop, but he looks like the Seahawks' long-term plan at the position.
Jan 6, 2025
Scores first TD in Week 18
Fant corralled five of six targets for 63 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-25 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Fant saved his best for last in 2024 after scoring his first touchdown in the Seahawks' season finale. The veteran tight end finishes the season with a modest 53-563-1 receiving line in 14 starts for Seattle, with his lack of touchdowns being the biggest drawback. Fant remains under contract for the 2025 season, but he will have to fend off 2024 fourth-round pick AJ Barner for the starting job after the latter also hit pay dirt in Sunday's victory.
Dec 27, 2024
Team-high receiving yardage in win
Fant secured four of five targets for 43 yards in the Seahawks' 6-3 win over the Bears on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Fant led the Seahawks in receptions and receiving yards, contributing his highest catch total since Week 6 in the process. Half of the veteran tight end's catches and 25 of his receiving yards were sandwiched around the two-minute warning during the Seahawks' final drive of the first half, a march that culminated in a Jason Myers field goal. Fant has at least three catches in nine consecutive contests heading into a Week 18 road matchup against the Rams on Sunday, Jan. 5 that could decide the NFC West champion.
Dec 24, 2024
Full participant Tuesday
Fant (knee) was estimated to be a full participant at the Seahawks' walkthrough Tuesday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant was a limited participant at the team's first walkthrough of the week Monday, so his increase in participation Tuesday seems to suggest he's all set to play in Thursday night's matchup with Chicago. The tight end has been dealing with a knee issue for a couple of weeks, but it hasn't forced him to miss any action. Fant has caught 12 of 21 targets for 109 yards over the last four contests following a three-game absence with a groin injury.
Dec 23, 2024
Deemed limited Monday due to knee
Seattle estimated Fant (knee) as a limited practice participant Monday, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks didn't actually practice Monday, so Fant's status was an estimation of his level of participation had a practice been held. The veteran tight end dealt with a knee injury last week as well, so he's likely still working through the same issue. Fant was able to suit up Sunday versus Minnesota and logged 75 percent of Seattle's offensive snaps, and unless he's had a setback it's likely that he'll be able to take the field this Thursday against Chicago.
Dec 23, 2024
Gains 50 yards in Sunday's loss
Fant (knee) brought in three of six targets for 50 yards in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Fant finished the contest with his third highest receiving total of the season after being limited in the practice week with a knee injury. The veteran tight end did suffer a theoretical loss when rookie backup A.J. Barner (2-13-1) vultured a potential touchdown in Sunday's loss. Fant is still the preferred fantasy option in terms of Seattle options at tight end, but the split in production limits his usage to deep formats in Thursday's tilt against Chicago.
Dec 19, 2024
Full practice Thursday
Fant (knee) practiced in full Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
This follows a limited showing at Wednesday's session for Fant. Since sitting out three games from Weeks 9-12 due to a groin injury, he's had only modest results in Seattle box scores, accounting for a 9-59-0 line on 15 targets over the last three contests.
Dec 18, 2024
Limited by knee injury
Fant practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday due to a knee injury, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant has exactly three catches in four straight contests, compiling a 12-81-0 line on 19 targets during that stretch. He's now enduring some practice restrictions to kick off Week 16 prep, but there's been no indication he's in danger of sitting out Sunday against the Vikings.
Dec 16, 2024
Minimal output on seven targets
Fant had three receptions on seven targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 30-13 loss to Green Bay.
ANALYSIS
Fant struggled mightily despite seeing a season-best seven targets in Sunday's lopsided loss. Much of the blame can be placed on backup quarterback Sam Howell's poor play (5-14, 24 yards, INT), who was forced into action early in the second half after Geno Smith (knee) was injured. If the former is asked to start in Week 16, Fant's marginal fantasy value may evaporate completely against the Vikings next Sunday.
Dec 8, 2024
Gains 18 yards Sunday
Fant had three receptions on four targets for 18 yards in Sunday's 30-18 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Fant grabbed three catches in consecutive games since returning from a layoff due to a groin injury. The veteran tight end has averaged 22.0 yards in those two contests with no touchdowns scored, resulting in mediocre fantasy production. Rookie tight end AJ Barner remained in the mix with a 13-yard reception Sunday, further cutting into Fant's fantasy value. The 27-year-old is only a deep-league option heading into next Sunday's tilt against Green Bay.
Dec 2, 2024
Three catches in return
Fant caught three of four targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 26-21 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Fant returned to the lineup after a three-game absence due to a groin injury. He was still the clear No. 1 tight end with a 68 percent snap share, but AJ Barner is gaining some ground with a 40 percent share. Fant is still seeking his first touchdown of the season, and he has yet to post more than 65 yards in a game.
Nov 27, 2024
Logs full practice Wednesday
Fant (groin) practiced fully Wednesday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Going back to last week, Fant has put together back-to-back uncapped sessions, indicating he's past the groin injury that has sidelined him the last three games. Prior to his absence, he regularly paced Seahawks tight ends en route to a 27-285-0 line on 32 targets during the first eight contests of the campaign. Fant likely will retain such a role Sunday at the Jets.
Nov 24, 2024
Officially inactive Sunday
Fant (groin) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Reports earlier Sunday indicated Fant's availability would likely come down to pregame warmups, and the veteran tight end evidently wasn't deemed healthy enough to suit up. With Fant missing his third straight game, rookie AJ Barner will once again helm Seattle's tight-end corps, while Fant will aim for a return to action in a Week 13 road matchup against the Jets.
Nov 24, 2024
Looks like close call for Sunday
Fant (groin) remains listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, and a source tells Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that it will be a close call as to whether the tight end will be able to play.
ANALYSIS
Fant closed out Week 12 prep with a full practice, and while that's often a positive indicator that a player will suit up on game day, the tight end has missed the Seahawks' previous two games, which were sandwiched around a Week 10 bye. It's unclear if just one full practice will be enough for Fant to get the green light to play Sunday, and the Seahawks could be preparing for another absence after they elevated another tight end (Tyler Mabry) from the practice squad Saturday. Ultimately, a final word on Fant's status will come 90 minutes prior to the 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff, when Seattle posts its inactive list. AJ Barner would likely serve as the Seahawks' primary option at tight end Sunday if Fant is unable to go.
Nov 22, 2024
Questionable but 'trending well'
Coach Mike Macdonald said Friday that Fant (groin), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game versus the Cardinals, is "trending well," and a decision on his upcoming availability will be made Saturday, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant has been sidelined for three weeks and two games due to a groin injury, but after he went from no activity Wednesday to some Thursday and full participation Friday, Macdonald's comments indicate the tight end has a decent chance to return to action this weekend. The Seahawks have a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday, so a good portion of the Week 12 slate will be underway once the team posts its list of inactives about 90 minutes prior. AJ Barner would take on most of the TE reps for Seattle if Fant is inhibited or sidelined.
Nov 22, 2024
Questionable to play Week 12
Fant (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Arizona, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant missed the past two games, sandwiched around a Week 10 bye, and just returned to practice Thursday as a limited participant. The Seahawks are giving him at least some chance to play ahead of a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday, with rookie AJ Barner on hand to fill in again if needed. Barner drew 11 targets the past two games while playing 91 and 85 percent of snaps, but the big uptick in opportunities yielded just six catches for 42 yards.
Nov 21, 2024
Returns to practice Thursday
Fant (groin) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
This marks Fant's first notable on-field work since Oct. 30 as he recovers from a groin injury that has sidelined him for Seattle's last two games. He may have to log a full practice Friday in order to emerge from Week 12 prep without a designation. In any case, if Fant is inhibited or sidelined Sunday against the Cardinals AJ Barner would be the biggest beneficiary among Seahawks tight ends.
Nov 20, 2024
Still not practicing
Fant (groin) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant hasn't practiced since Oct. 30 due to a groin injury, resulting in a pair of absences (Weeks 9 and 11) sandwiched around a Week 10 bye. Reserve TE Brady Russell (foot) also was held out of practice Wednesday, which leaves AJ Barner and Pharaoh Brown (elbow) as the healthy options at the position on the Seahawks' active roster at the moment. Fant will have two more sessions this week to put himself on a path to return to action, but until he steps back on the practice field, his odds to suit up will be slim.
Nov 15, 2024
Won't play this week
Fant (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant missed Seattle's final game before a Week 10 bye and will now miss at least one more contest after failing to practice this week. With fourth-string tight end Brady Russell (foot) also ruled out, the Seahawks will rely on AJ Barner and Pharaoh Brown, likely giving the former most of the snaps and routes. Barner played 91 percent of snaps in a 26-20 loss to the Rams in Week 9, catching four of seven targets for 27 yards in his first career game with more than three targets or 48 percent snap share.
Nov 14, 2024
Still not practicing
Fant (groin) was a non-participant at Thursday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant is expected to miss time on either side of the Seahawks' Week 10 bye due to a groin injury, and the team can confirm has lack of availability for Sunday's game at San Francisco as soon as it posts its final Week 11 practice report Friday. Assuming that comes to pass, AJ Barner will be the primary beneficiary at tight end for Seattle.
Nov 13, 2024
Doesn't practice Wednesday
Fant (groin) didn't participate in practice Wednesday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
When Fant was ruled out for Week 9 action, coach Mike Macdonald relayed that it was "going to be some time" regarding the tight end's recovery from a groin injury, according to Colin Gunther of the Seahawks' official site. Fant's lack of activity coming out of the team's Week 10 bye is worrisome for his availability for Sunday's game at San Francisco. Another absence from Fant would allow AJ Barner to continue to feature as Seattle's primary tight end.
Nov 1, 2024
Status after bye in question
Fant (groin) won't play Sunday against the Rams, and per coach Mike Macdonald, the tight end's status after a Week 10 bye isn't certain, Colin Gunther of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
In particular, Macdonald said Friday, "It's going to be some time. We don't anticipate him being on IR, but we are unsure of his availability after the bye right now." After injuring his groin at Wednesday's practice, Fant was a non-participant both Thursday and Friday before the Seahawks ruled him out for Week 9 action. In Fant's stead, the trio of AJ Barner, Pharaoh Brown and Brady Russell will man TE for the Seahawks.
Nov 1, 2024
Out for Week 9
Fant (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant will miss a game for the first time this season right ahead of Seattle's Week 10 bye. His absence leaves more playing time for fellow tight ends AJ Barner, Pharaoh Brown and Brady Russell, with Barner being most likely of the bunch to have significant involvement in the passing game.
Oct 31, 2024
Doesn't practice Thursday
Fant (groin) didn't practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Considering Fant was listed as limited on Wednesday's practice report, he may have suffered the groin injury in the session that preceded its posting. In any case, his status will be one to monitor Friday to see if he enters the weekend with a designation ahead of Sunday's game versus the Rams. AJ Barner, Pharaoh Brown and Brady Russell would stand to benefit this weekend if Fant is inhibited or sidelined.
Oct 30, 2024
Dealing with groin issue
Fant practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday due to a groin injury, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Through eight games this season, Fant has surpassed a 50 percent snap share on seven occasions, resulting in a cumulative 27-285-0 line on 32 targets. With WRs DK Metcalf (knee) sitting out Wednesday and Tyler Lockett (oblique) limited with a new health concern, three of the Seahawks' top pass catchers are banged-up at the moment. Thursday's and Friday's sessions thus will be key to how the team's receiving corps will break down Sunday versus the Rams.
Oct 27, 2024
Gains 22 yards in defeat
Fant had three receptions (four targets) for 22 yards in Sunday's 31-10 loss to Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
Fant finished in a tie for third in terms of targets in a game where Seattle could do little on offense. The veteran tight end was coming off of a pair of 60-plus yard performances, so there is some deep-league value to be had. Fant shouldn't be considered much more than that heading into a Week 9 matchup against the Rams next Sunday.
Oct 20, 2024
Elevated usage in win
Fant brought in all four targets for 65 yards in the Seahawks' 34-14 win over the Falcons on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Fant finished tied for first in receptions and was second in receiving yards on the afternoon for the Seahawks. The veteran tight end was able to set a new season high in yardage in the process and now has three outings of 60+ yards for the first time since the 2021 season. Fant could be involved at an elevated level again in a Week 8 home matchup against the Bills if DK Metcalf is forced to miss any time with the knee injury that prompted his exit from Sunday's game.
Oct 11, 2024
Best outing of season
Fant caught all six of his targets for 63 yards in Thursday's 36-24 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
This was Fant's second game with six receptions and 60-plus yards. In the other four games, the 2019 first-round pick failed to post more than 26 yards. It will be difficult to identify these breakout scenarios moving forward, but Fant should be a fine fantasy streamer when bye weeks surface.
Oct 8, 2024
Reels in three passes
Fant caught all three of his targets for 24 yards in Sunday's 29-20 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Fant is averaging just 27.2 receiving yards per game, and he hasn't found paydirt since the 2022 season. He's tough to depend on in any redraft format because of his limited and rare ceiling.
Oct 4, 2024
Good to go against G-Men
Fant (toe) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Giants, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant has been dealing with the toe issue all season but has yet to miss a game. His role, however, has diminished with the Seahawks using all three of Fant, Pharaoh Brown and AJ Barner at tight end. Fant has just 11 catches for 111 scoreless yards nearly a quarter of the way into the 2024 campaign.
Oct 3, 2024
Remains limited Thursday
Fant (toe) practiced in a limited fashion Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With back-to-back capped sessions to begin Week 5 prep, Fant has just one more chance to return to full participation Friday before the Seahawks potentially give him a designation for Sunday's contest versus the Giants. Despite the toe injury following him all season, he's been available for each of the team's four games, but his output (11-111-0 on 15 targets) has been lacking in an offense that features the NFL's leading passer in QB Geno Smith.
Oct 2, 2024
Limited again Wednesday
Fant (toe) was limited at Wednesday's walkthrough, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant has endured a cap on his reps for at least one practice each week this season due to a toe issue, so his listing on the first Week 5 injury report comes as no surprise. He's been able to play through it, but the results (11-111-0 on 15 targets) have been minimal in an offense that boasts the NFL's leading passer (Geno Smith) through four weeks. In any case, Fant has two more sessions this week to put his injury behind him for Sunday's visit from the Giants.
Oct 2, 2024
Two catches in loss
Fant secured both of his targets for 26 yards in Monday's 42-29 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Fant continued his underwhelming start to the 2024 season, as the veteran has recorded just 11 catches for 111 yards through four weeks. Operating as the Seahawks' No. 1 tight end, the 26-year-old has not been a huge part of the offense, instead sharing tight end duties with Pharaoh Brown and AJ Barner while Seattle's wide receivers and running backs soak up most of the targets from quarterback Geno Smith. Like most other tight ends in fantasy, Fant remains difficult to trust heading into a Week 5 matchup with the Giants.
Sep 28, 2024
All set for Monday
Fant (toe) does not carry an injury designation into Monday's game against the Lions, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
This was the expected outcome, but it's still good to see Fant ready for the primetime contest. The veteran tight end was a trendy sleeper fantasy option entering the year, but he's tallied just 13 total targets across three games despite a relatively potent Seahawks passing attack. Game script could see Seattle playing catchup Monday, which might afford Fant a few more opportunities.
Sep 27, 2024
Remains limited Friday
Fant (toe) remained limited in Friday's practice, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
The toe injury is nothing new for the veteran tight end, and he's played through it all year to this point. Fant's fantasy stock gets a slight boost this week in what projects as a shootout at Ford Field against the Lions. On the season, Fant has a 9-85-0 line on 13 targets and is coming off a six-catch game in Week 3.
Sep 26, 2024
Limited Thursday
Fant (toe) was limited in practice Thursday, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant has been tending to a toe injury all season, but he's been able to suit up for all three of the Seahawks' games, culminating in a 6-60-0 line on six targets during this past Sunday's win against the Dolphins. Such output easily surpassed the combined three catches (on seven targets) for 25 yards that he had in the first two contests, signaling volatility from week to week for fantasy purposes. In any case, Fant will have two more chances this week to prove his health before Seattle potentially hands him a designation for Monday's visit to the Lions.
Sep 22, 2024
Catches all targets for 60 yards
Fant (knee) had six receptions on as many targets in Sunday's 24-3 win over the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Fant carried an injury designation for his ailing knee prior to being cleared for Sunday's kickoff. This is a prime example of the need to scour for news leading up to kickoffs on Sundays. Savvy fantasy owners who kept Fant in their lineups were rewarded with a clean fantasy performance from the veteran tight end. Fant remains a steady option heading into a matchup against the Lions next Monday.
Sep 20, 2024
Cleared to face Dolphins
Fant (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant's good to go, while backup Pharaoh Brown (knee) is listed as questionable. Despite handling at least 75 percent of snaps on offense in each of Seattle's first two games, Fant has seen minimal involvement in the passing attack, catching just three of seven targets for 25 yards. He'll look to turn his significant playing time into more production Sunday against a Dolphins team that has allowed just 38 yards to tight ends through two games.
Sep 19, 2024
Stays limited in practice
Fant (knee) was limited in Thursday's practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
For a third week in a row to kick off the season, Fant's toe injury has impacted his on-field work in advance of game day. In both Weeks 1 and 2, though, he entered the weekend without a designation, something that will be clarified, one way or another, when Seattle posts its final practice report of the week Friday ahead of Sunday's contest versus the Dolphins.
Sep 18, 2024
Limited to begin Week 3 prep
Fant (toe) practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant again is kicking off a week of game prep with a capped session due to a toe injury, but he's been able to play through it so far, gathering in three of seven targets for 25 yards through two contests. His status will continue to be watched as the Seahawks gear up to face the Dolphins on Sunday.
Sep 16, 2024
Catches one pass Sunday
Fant caught one of three targets in Sunday's 23-20 overtime win versus the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
It was another underwhelming performance by Fant, as he has produced just 25 receiving yards despite Geno Smith throwing for 498 yards through two games. Fant is still playing plenty of snaps, as he handled an 80 percent share in Week 2. However, it appears Fant's role hasn't improved much in the Seahawks' new system.
Sep 12, 2024
Logs full practice Thursday
Fant (toe) practiced fully Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After opening Week 1 prep with a pair of limited practices, Fant avoided a designation entirely for this past Sunday's game versus the Broncos, turning a 75 percent snap share into two catches (on four targets) for 11 yards. He should retain a similar workload this Sunday in New England, but production may be difficult to come by in an receiving corps led by WRs DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.
Sep 11, 2024
Stays limited to start week
Fant (toe) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant is beginning this week as he did preparations for Week 1 with a capped session. If he follows a similar path this time around, he'll be limited Thursday and full Friday before going into the weekend without a designation. Fant handled a 75 percent share of the offensive snaps this past Sunday against the Broncos on his way to two catches (on four targets) for 11 yards.
Sep 9, 2024
Totals 11 yards against former team
Fant caught two of four targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 26-20 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
While it was a difficult outing for Fant individually, the Seahawks struggled in the air overall, totaling just 171 yards. Fant is the clear No. 1 tight end, but he's probably fourth in the pecking order when it comes to targets, sitting behind DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba. He'll look to bounce back in Week 2 against the Patriots.
Sep 6, 2024
Good to go for Week 1
Fant (toe) does not carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Broncos, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant began the week with back-to-back limited practices, but the toe injury he spent most of August dealing with won't impact his Week 1 availability. With backup tight end Pharaoh Brown (foot) ruled out to face Denver, Fant could be in line for slightly more opportunities than usual as Seattle's top TE.
Sep 5, 2024
Another limited showing
Fant (toe) was limited at practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With back-to-back capped sessions to begin Week 1 prep due to a toe injury that has lingered for almost one month, Fant has just one more chance to get back to all activity before the Seahawks potentially give him a designation for Sunday's game versus the Broncos. Meanwhile, fellow TE Pharaoh Brown (foot) hasn't practiced this week, which has left Brady Russell and AJ Barner as the healthy players at the position on the team's active roster.
Sep 4, 2024
Limited by toe issue
Fant practiced on a limited basis Wednesday due to a toe injury, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Since Fant suffered an apparent foot issue during an Aug. 7 practice, coach Mike Macdonald was mum on the nature of Fant's health concern, only expressing optimism that the tight end would be available Week 1. Now that the injury is known, Fant will have two more days to prove his health before the Seahawks potentially give him a designation before Sunday's contest against the Broncos. Meanwhile, fellow TE Pharaoh Brown (foot) didn't practice Wednesday, which could open the door for a few more targets for Fant this weekend, assuming the latter is active and the former is limited or sidelined.
Sep 2, 2024
Present for warmups
Fant (foot) was suited up for warmups ahead of Monday's practice, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant hasn't practiced since Aug. 6 due to a foot injury, and it's unclear if he'll participate in drills Monday as the Seahawks ramp up for a Week 1 matchup with the Broncos. The Seahawks' first practice report of the season will be posted Wednesday in advance of Sunday's game, so how he's listed there may indicate where he's at in his recovery.
Aug 22, 2024
Optimism for Week 1
Coach Mike Macdonald noted Thursday that the Seahawks are optimistic both Fant (foot) and Pharaoh Brown (foot) will be available for the team's regular-season opener, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Macdonald's comments Thursday effectively confirm that Fant won't play in the team's preseason finale against the Browns on Saturday, but it looks like the Seahawks could have both of their top tight ends available for Week 1 action. Added context on that front will arrive no later than the first official practice/injury report the team releases in advance of a Sept. 8 matchup against the Broncos.
Aug 9, 2024
To resume practicing next week
Fant (foot) likely will return to practice next week, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant made an early exit from Tuesday's session due to a foot injury, which presumably will keep him out for Saturday's preseason game at the Chargers. With Fant sidelined this weekend, Pharaoh Brown, Tyler Mabry and Brady Russell are next up for TE reps in the Seahawks offense.
Aug 7, 2024
Exits practice early
Fant left Tuesday's practice with an apparent foot injury, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant reportedly left midway through practice and didn't return. Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald didn't speak with the media after the session to provide an update, so it remains to be seen if the injury will cost Fant any time beyond Tuesday. The 26-year-old is positioned for a larger role than he had last year, as fellow tight ends Colby Parkinson and Will Dissly signed with other teams this offseason, while Fant re-signed with Seattle on a two-year, $21 million deal ($11.49 million guaranteed at signing).
Mar 11, 2024
Staying in Seattle
Fant (hand) agreed to terms on a two-year, $21 million contract with the Seahawks on Monday, Jordan Schultz of BleacherReport.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant, a former first-round pick for the Broncos, has accumulated over 2,800 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns across his first five seasons. He is coming off a disappointing contract year with Seattle that saw him record 414 yards on 32 receptions and no touchdowns across 17 games. However, the 26-year-old showed enough for the team to continue believing in him as a top option at tight end, which he currently projects to be entering the 2024 campaign due to the departures of both Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson.
Feb 1, 2024
Tough sledding in contract year
Fant (hand) recorded 32 receptions for 414 yards and no touchdowns across 17 games during the 2023 season.
ANALYSIS
Fant played out the fifth year of his rookie contract, but he posted career lows in receptions, yards and touchdowns. The Iowa product surpassed 50 yards just twice this season. The 26-year-old tight end suffered a hand injury in the season finale. It shouldn't be a long-term issue or affect his value as a free agent in March, but the market may be softened for Fant after such a tough season.
Jan 7, 2024
Ruled out of Sunday's game
Fant (hand) won't return to Sunday's game in Arizona, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant left the contest late in the first quarter and has being tended to by team trainers on the bench before Seattle ruled him out. In Fant's stead, Will Dissly should serve as the top tight end, with Colby Parkinson and Brady Russell also chipping at the position.
Jan 7, 2024
Tending to hand issue
Fant exited Sunday's game at Arizona due to a hand injury.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his departure in the first quarter, Fant hadn't made an impact in the box score. Colby Parkinson, Will Dissly and Brady Russell will man tight end for the Seahawks for as long as Fant is sidelined.
Dec 31, 2023
Hauls in five passes Sunday
Fant secured five of six targets for 59 yards during Sunday's 30-23 defeat to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
One week removed from failing to record a catch for the third time in 15 contests on the campaign, Fant recorded season bests in catches and targets while posting his second-highest yardage tally. Sunday's outing also marked the first time he surpassed 50 receiving yards in a game since Week 4. As a result, Fant likely will be hard-pressed to produce Week 18 on the road versus the Cardinals.
Dec 28, 2023
Gets back to full participation
Fant (knee) practiced in full Thursday, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant didn't participate in Wednesday's walkthrough, but his return to all activity one day later indicates the tight end likely was given a maintenance day to kick off Week 17 prep. He'll thus retain his role as the Seahawks' No. 1 tight end Sunday versus the Steelers, which hasn't yielded much in terms of production (27-355-0 on 37 targets in 15 games) this season.
Dec 27, 2023
Tending to knee issue
Fant (knee) was a non-participant at Wednesday's walkthrough, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Since going without a target back in Week 1, Fant's number of looks ranged from 1-to-5 in the Seahawks' next 13 games before again getting blanked this past Sunday at Tennessee. Overall, he's produced a modest 27-355-0 line on 37 targets through 15 contests, but his lack of activity to kick off Week 17 prep now places a cloud over his upcoming availability. Still, Fant has two more chances this week to put himself in a position to play Sunday against the Steelers.
Dec 27, 2023
Not targeted against Titans
Fant failed to record a single target in Sunday's 20-17 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Fant dominated the offensive snap share at tight end, playing 76 percent of the Seahawks snaps Sunday. Meanwhile, fellow tight ends Colby Parkinson and Will Dissly saw a snap share of 37 and 26 percent, respectively. Parkinson was also more involved in the offense, catching three of four targets for 17 yards and a touchdown. Fant will remain difficult to trust for fantasy purposes when the Seahawks host the Steelers in Week 17.
Dec 19, 2023
Targeted five times in win
Fant caught three of five targets for 16 yards in Monday's 20-17 win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Drew Lock got the start at quarterback for the Seahawks, and Fant has a history with the signal caller dating back to their days in Denver. In turn, Fant received a season-high five targets, although that didn't translate to much production. It's unclear whether Geno Smith will be back in Week 16, but regardless, it will be tough to trust Fant. After all, he's averaging 25.3 yards per game with no touchdowns.
Dec 11, 2023
Registers 35 yards
Fant caught two of four targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 28-16 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Fant is still struggling to make a consistent impact in this offense, but he has managed to post at least 35 yards in back-to-back games. The 2019 first-round pick has produced 24 receptions for 339 yards and no touchdowns through 13 games. He'll need to find paydirt to have any fantasy upside this season.
Dec 1, 2023
Makes three grabs in loss
Fant caught three of four targets for 43 yards in Thursday's 41-35 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
This was Fant's best performance since Week 4. It has been an underwhelming season for the 2019 first-round pick, who has now produced 22 receptions for 304 yards and no touchdowns through 12 games.
Nov 24, 2023
Catches two passes
Fant caught both of his targets for 25 yards in Thursday's 31-13 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Fant hasn't caught more than two passes in a game since Week 3 against the Panthers, and he has yet to find the end zone. The 2019 first-round pick is still the clear No. 1 tight end, as he played 32 offensive snaps while Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson combined for 35 snaps.
Nov 20, 2023
Brings in one pass
Fant caught one of two targets for four yards in Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Fant's struggles continued in Week 11, as he has totaled just seven receptions for 76 yards over the past six games. He draws a difficult matchup to turn things around in Week 12 against the 49ers.
Nov 13, 2023
Catches two short passes
Fant reeled in two passes (three targets) for six yards in Sunday's 29-26 win over the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
Fant looked impressive before the Week 5 bye, recording at least 40 yards in three of four games. However, rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba started getting more involved since then, and as a result, Fant has posted just six receptions (nine targets) for 72 yards and no touchdowns over the last five outings. His playing time remains consistent, but fantasy managers shouldn't have much confidence in the 2019 first-round pick.
Nov 6, 2023
Catchless in loss
Fant didn't catch his lone target in Sunday's 37-3 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Fant finished catchless for the first time since the season opener, as the Seahawks' offense completely stalled on the road. The 2019 first-round pick handled a 51 percent snap share. He'll look to get back on track in Week 10 versus the Commanders.
Oct 30, 2023
Snags two passes
Fant caught two of three targets for 32 yards in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Fant led all Seattle tight ends with a 60 percent snap share and was the only tight end to get targeted in Sunday's win. At best, he's the fourth receiving option in this offense, so he won't be a reliable fantasy option even if his snap share stays elevated. Through seven games, Fant has recorded 14 catches for 226 yards and no touchdowns.
Oct 26, 2023
Logs full practice Thursday
Fant (toe) practiced fully Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
One day removed from being limited due to a toe issue Wednesday, Fant handled all on-field reps. Assuming he avoids a designation when the Seahawks release their final Week 8 injury report Friday, he'll be vying for snaps at tight end with Colby Parkinson and Will Dissly, which so far hasn't lent itself to too much production for the fifth-year pro (12-194-0 on 13 targets).
Oct 25, 2023
Tending to toe issue
Fant was limited at Wednesday's practice due to a toe injury, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant previously dealt with a knee issue during Week 4 prep, but his workload hasn't deviated too much from game to game, ranging from 41 to 65 percent of the offensive snaps. His output has been very hit or miss, with three outings of more than 40 yards, three others with 25 or fewer yards and no touchdowns to speak. Now with a health concern in tow, Fant's availability is up in the air ahead of Sunday's contest against the Browns.
Oct 23, 2023
Hauls in one pass
Fant caught his lone target for a 25-yard gain in Sunday's 20-10 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Fant has caught nearly everything thrown his way this season, as he has turned 13 targets into 12 catches for 194 yards and no touchdowns. He's handling an even split with Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson, as the trio all played between 32 and 36 snaps in the divisional win. Fant's probably the most athletic of the three, but without consistent usage in the offense, he won't be a consistent fantasy option.
Oct 16, 2023
Snags one pass in loss
Fant caught his lone target for a nine-yard gain in Sunday's 17-13 loss to thd Bengals.
ANALYSIS
After producing at least 40 receiving yards in three straight games, Fant logged a season-low 41 percent snap share and finished with just one catch. Both Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson played more than Fant, too. The Seahawks' tight-end room is frustrating and will be inconsistent for fantasy purposes this season as long as the trio remains healthy.
Oct 3, 2023
Narrowly misses long TD
Fant (knee) caught both of his targets for 63 yards in Monday's 24-3 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Fant finished as the Seahawks' leading receiver despite seeing just two targets Monday. The veteran did most of his damage on a short pass from backup Drew Lock that he took all the way down the sideline for what was initially ruled a 52-yard touchdown. Replay review revealed that Fant's knee was down prior to breaking the plane of the end zone, so Kenneth Walker finished the job with a touchdown from one yard out. The former Bronco has strung together three solid fantasy games after posting a bagel in Week 1. Fant can provide value in deeper formats when he returns from Seattle's upcoming bye week, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect huge plays like Monday's on a regular basis.
Oct 2, 2023
Available Monday
Fant (knee) is active for Monday's contest at the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Fant made a surprise appearance on the Seahawks' injury report Saturday as a non-participant due to a knee issue, which left him questionable for Week 4 action. Fellow tight end Will Dissly (shoulder) had the same designation, but both players will be available to Seattle's offense Monday. While Fant was blanked Week 1 against the Rams, he's hauled in eight of nine targets for 97 yards over the last two contests.
Sep 30, 2023
Surprise inclusion on injury report
Fant (knee) is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Giants, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official sitereports.
ANALYSIS
Both Fant and Will Dissly (shoulder) are questionable for Monday's game, although in the case of the former, Fant hadn't appeared on the injury report prior to Saturday. The 2019 first-round pick has seen a few targets recently averaging four catches and 48.5 yards over the past two weeks. Colby Parkinson could see an uptick in snaps if either of the tight ends miss Monday's marquee matchup.
Sep 25, 2023
Puts up 41 yards
Fant recorded four catches on five targets for 41 yards in Sunday's 37-27 win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Fant handled a 65 percent snap share because Will Dissly (shoulder) was inactive. In turn, he caught four catches for the second week in a row while finishing third on the team in targets behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. It's unclear if Dissly will play in Week 4 against the Giants. Fant's fantasy value is limited to deeper leagues regardless.
Sep 17, 2023
Rings up 56 yards
Fant caught all four of his targets for 56 yards in Sunday's 37-31 overtime win versus the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Fant's afternoon was highlighted by a deep pass down the left sideline that gained 31 yards. The fifth-year pro's performance was a pleasant surprise after he wasn't targeted in Week 1. However, we shouldn't expect many more of these stat lines this year. After all, Fant topped 50 receiving yards in just one game last year.
Sep 11, 2023
No targets in loss
Fant wasn't targeted in Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Fant recorded 25 offensive snaps, which was more than both Colby Parkinson (21) and Will Dissly (16). None of these tight ends are dependable for fantasy purposes until further notice, especially because wideouts DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba will be focal points of the passing game.
Aug 20, 2023
Good gain on one catch
Fant brought in his only target for a 21-yard reception in the Seahawks' 22-14 preseason win over the Cowboys on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
The veteran tight end had progressed from opening camp on the active/PUP list to jumping into full practice participation this past week, so Saturday was the culmination of his recovery process. Fant came in behind fellow tight end Will Dissly, and his reception came on a pass from Drew Lock during the Seahawks' fourth possession. Given he just made his exhibition debut Saturday, Fant could be given some run again during next Saturday afternoon's finale against the Packers.
Aug 16, 2023
Fully practicing off knee surgery
Fant (knee) was upgraded to full participation in practice this week, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant opened training camp on the active/PUP list after undergoing offseason knee surgery. He was activated from PUP on July 30 but had been limited up until this week. The 2019 first-rounder is entering the final year of his contract and is coming off a 2022 where he averaged a career-low 28.6 yards per game with four touchdowns in a three-way tight end rotation alongside Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson. His role seems unlikely to change.
Jul 30, 2023
Passes physical, off PUP list
Fant (knee) passed his physical Sunday and will be activated off the active/PUP list.
ANALYSIS
Fant started training camp on the active/PUP list due to a knee injury, but he was sidelined for less than a week and will return to practice soon. Now that he's healthy, the 2019 first-round pick should reprise his role as Seattle's top tight end. Fant caught 50 of 63 targets for 486 yards and four touchdowns across 17 appearances during his first season with the Seahawks last year.
Jul 26, 2023
Dealing with knee injury
Coach Pete Carroll said Fant was placed on the active/PUP list Wednesday due to a knee concern, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Carroll relayed that Fant "had a little work done" on the knee in question, so it's unclear if the tight end underwent a procedure or merely was focusing behind the scenes on work with the Seahawks' training and medical staffs. Fant is able to practice and/or play at any point in the preseason, but in the meantime, Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson will handle most of the top-level TE reps for Seattle.
Jul 26, 2023
Placed on PUP
Fant (undisclosed) is on the active/PUP list for the start of training camp, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
No injury or surgery was reported this offseason, but that doesn't necessarily mean nothing happened. It's also possible this is something minor that cropped up recently before the start of training camp, in which case Fant should be back on the field in short order. His competition for TE snaps looks much the same as last year, with Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson also returning to Seattle.
Jan 16, 2023
Career-low receiving yards
Fant posted 50 catches (63 targets) for 486 yards and four touchdowns through 17 games during the 2022 season.
ANALYSIS
While Fant tied his career high of four touchdowns, this was his worst season in terms of receiving yards. The fourth-year tight end split snaps with Will Dissly for the first 15 games, but when Dissly went down with a knee injury, Fant didn't take over the No. 1 job. Instead, Colby Parkinson leapfrogged Fant and operated as the clear top tight end. That setup is concerning for Fant heading into 2023, as both Dissly and Parkinson are under contract for at least one more year.
Jan 12, 2023
Set to play Saturday
Fant (knee) doesn't have a designation for Saturday's wild-card contest at San Francisco, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant's practice limitations stem back to Week 16 prep as he tends to a knee injury, which didn't allow him to participate in Tuesday's walkthrough. But he managed a limited session Wednesday and now is ready to go for the first round of the postseason. While playing through his current health concern, Fant has recorded a cumulative 8-72-1 line on 10 targets over the last three games while operating behind fellow tight end Colby Parkinson.
Jan 11, 2023
Returns to limited practice
Fant (knee) practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant has had practice limitations since Week 16 prep due to a knee issue, which kept him out of Tuesday's walkthrough entirely. But his return to drills one day later bodes well ahead of Saturday's wild-card contest at San Francisco. Thursday's injury report may clear up Fant's status, and if it does he'll be destined to team with Colby Parkinson as the Seahawks' top two tight ends this weekend.
Jan 10, 2023
Sits out wild-card round practice
Fant (knee) was listed as a non-participant at Tuesday's walk-through practice, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Due to the lingering knee injury, Fant has sat out the first practice of the week ahead of each of the Seahawks' last three games, but he's proceeded to suit up for each contest while producing a collective 8-72-1 receiving line on 10 targets. Assuming he didn't suffer any sort of major setback with the knee during this past Sunday's 19-16 overtime win over the Rams, Fant should be good to go for this Saturday's wild-card game in San Francisco. If that's the case, Fant would once again be in line to split snaps at tight end with Colby Parkinson.
Jan 9, 2023
Catches four short passes
Fant caught all four of his targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 19-16 overtime win versus the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Fant operated as the No. 2 tight end behind Colby Parkinson for a second straight week. He still managed to play 45 offensive snaps (64 percent) and ranked third on the team in targets, but he didn't gain more than eight yards on any of his catches. Fant has the ability to stretch the field with his speed. However, his current usage is concerning for fantasy purposes as the Seahawks head to the playoffs.
Jan 6, 2023
Good to go
Fant (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Rams, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant was a limited practice participant Thursday and Friday after resting up Wednesday. He's been playing through the knee injury for a few weeks, but it might explain why Colby Parkinson benefitted most after Will Dissly went on IR with his own knee injury last week, while Fant handled his typical snap share (62 percent) and saw only three targets in the 23-6 win over New York last week.
Jan 5, 2023
Logs limited practice Thursday
Fant (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant may be following the same practice regimen as last week, when he was a DNP on Wednesday before capping it with back-to-back limited sessions. In that scenario, he didn't carry a designation into this past Sunday's game against the Jets, when he hauled in two of three targets for 40 yards. Ultimately, Friday's injury report will reveal if Fant is cleared ahead of Sunday's contest versus the Rams.
Jan 4, 2023
DNP on Wednesday
Fant (knee) was a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
For a third week in a row, Fant is operating under practice limitations due to a knee injury. He still suited up for both of the last two games, earning a typical snap share (55 percent Week 16, 63 percent Week 17) on his way to a combined four catches (on six targets) for 52 yards and a touchdown. Fant entered last weekend without a designation for Sunday's game against the Jets, so a repeat of those happenings may befall the tight end this week, too.
Jan 2, 2023
Targeted three times in win
Fant caught two of three targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 23-6 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Will Dissly (knee) is on injured reserve, so Fant handled 45 snaps -- his highest mark since Week 8. However, he was surpassed by Colby Parkinson, who logged a season-high 57 snaps (80 percent) and posted five catches for 36 yards and a touchdown. This was a surprising shift, as Fant and Dissly had been running ahead of Parkinson all year. Dynasty managers should keep an eye on Fant's role in the must-win matchup versus the Rams in Week 18.
Dec 30, 2022
Cleared for Sunday
Fant (knee) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Jets, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
With fellow tight end Will Dissly (knee) placed on injured reserve this week and WRs Tyler Lockett (hand) and Marquise Goodwin (wrist) both listed as questionable, Fant could be the second or third option for QB Geno Smith this Sunday. The 2019 first-round pick scored touchdowns three of the past four games, but he's reached 50 yards just once all year while sharing snaps/routes with Dissly and Colby Parkinson.
Dec 29, 2022
Returns as limited Thursday
Fant (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks appear to have rested a number of key skill-position players this week, with all of Fant, Tyler Lockett (hand) and Kenneth Walker (ankle) going from DNPs on Wednesday to some activity one day later. Fant himself sat out two sessions last week with his knee issue before getting in one limited practice to cap it, so he seems to be a step ahead this time around. Friday's injury report will reveal whether or not the tight end enters the weekend with a designation for Sunday's matchup with the Jets.
Dec 28, 2022
Doesn't practice Wednesday
Fant (knee) was a non-participant at practice Wednesday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Last week, Fant missed the first two sessions before capping it as limited and entering the weekend with a questionable designation. He ended up starting and leading Seattle tight ends in snap share (55 percent), and while he scored a TD among his two catches, he ranked behind Colby Parkinson in targets, 4-3. With Will Dissly (knee) going on IR on Tuesday, Fant is the likely candidate to handle most of the team's TE reps moving forward, assuming he's able to suit up on game days.
Dec 24, 2022
Nabs fourth touchdown in defeat
Fant had two receptions (three targets) for 12 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 24-10 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Fant saved a paltry fantasy day with what amounted to a garbage-time score in the fourth quarter of Saturday's loss. It was the veteran tight end's third score over his last four games. Fant doesn't provide a ton of upside when he doesn't score, but his recent run of success makes him worth considering when the Seahawks take on the Jets next Sunday.
Dec 24, 2022
Ready to play Saturday
Fant (knee) is active for Saturday's game against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Fant managed just one limited practice this week while he battled the knee issue, but head coach Pete Carroll said after Thursday's session that the tight end would be good to go for Saturday. As anticipated, the 25-year-old will indeed suit up for the Week 16 contest, and assuming he avoids any in-game setbacks with the ankle, Fant and fellow tight end Will Dissly could be both in store for larger roles in the Seattle passing game. The Seahawks are without starting receiver Tyler Lockett (finger) this weekend, leaving Fant, Dissly and wideout Marquise Goodwin as candidates to absorb some of the looks that don't go to top target DK Metcalf.
Dec 23, 2022
Likely to play Saturday
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Thursday that Fant (knee) is likely to play Saturday at Kansas City, despite being listed as questionable for the contest, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant takes a designation into the weekend after being listed as a non-participant on practice reports issued Tuesday and Wednesday before upgrading to limited activity Thursday. Assuming Fant is cleared ahead of Saturday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff, he'll likely continue to be involved in a three-headed timeshare with Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson, though the Seahawks often deploy two-tight end formations. Fant and Dissly have both played at least 40 percent of the offensive snaps in every game this season.
Dec 22, 2022
Status up in air for Week 16
Fant (knee) is listed as questionable for Saturday's contest at Kansas City, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant didn't practice Tuesday or Wednesday before Seattle handed him a designation for Week 16 action, the result of a knee issue. For the season, he's handled at least 50 percent of the snaps in all 14 games, with a modest 42-414-3 line on 53 targets to show for his efforts in his first year with the team. If Saturday reveals Fant to be inactive for the first time on the campaign, Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson will handle tight end reps for the Seahawks.
Dec 21, 2022
Remains out at practice
Fant (knee) didn't practice Wednesday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant sat out Tuesday's walthrough and now has gone down as a non-participant for a second straight day. With one session to go in Week 16 prep, his listing Thursday may be telling for his ability to suit up Saturday in Kansas City. If Fant is limited or sidelined this weekend, Will Dissly and Colby Parkinson will serve as the Seahawks' tight ends.
Dec 20, 2022
Listed as DNP on estimate
Fant was listed as a non-participant at Tuesday's walkthrough due to a knee injury, Curtis Crabtree of Fox 13 Seattle reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant presumably picked up the injury in the Seahawks 21-13 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night. Tuesday's walkthrough was just an estimate, so more clarity on his status for Saturday's game against the Chiefs will come as the week progresses. Will Dissly would likely slide into the team's No. 1 tight end spot should Fant ultimately end up missing any time.
Dec 16, 2022
Gets into end zone Thursday
Fant brought in five of six targets for 32 yards and a touchdown in the Seahawks' 21-13 loss to the 49ers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
The first-year Seahawk atoned for a blank stat sheet in Week 14 against the Panthers by checking in second in receptions and targets on the night. Fant also recorded his third touchdown of the campaign on a 10-yard grab with just under four minutes remaining that made it a one-possession game. The 25-year-old will head into a critical Week 16 road matchup versus the Chiefs a week from Saturday with multiple receptions in six of the last seven games and touchdowns in two of the last three.
Dec 12, 2022
No catches in loss
Fant didn't catch his only target in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Fant caught at least three balls in each of the previous four games, but he disappeared from the target tree while wide receivers DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Marquise Goodwin combined for 25 targets. The 2019 first-round pick should be considered a volatile fantasy option in Week 15 versus the stingy 49ers defense.
Dec 4, 2022
Hauls in TD in win
Fant caught four of five targets for 42 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-23 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
He was on the other end of a four-yard TD toss from Geno Smith early in the second quarter, Fant's second touchdown of the season. The tight end remains a secondary part of the Seahawks' passing game, but he's caught multiple passes in five straight games heading into a Week 14 clash with the Panthers.
Nov 28, 2022
Puts up 34 yards
Fant caught all three of his targets for 34 yards in Sunday's 40-34 overtime loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Fant started the season slowly, but he has been decent since Week 5, averaging 3.3 catches for 40.6 yards. Unfortunately, he didn't find the end zone in that stretch and has just one touchdown this season. He'll continue to be a touchdown-dependant fantasy asset for the remainder of the year.
Nov 13, 2022
Rings up 34 yards
Fant caught three of four targets for 34 yards in Sunday's 21-16 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Fant followed up last week's 5-96-0 line with a modest showing, as he finished fifth among Seahawks pass catchers in terms of receiving yards. The 2019 first-round pick started the season slowly, but he has produced a respectable 20 catches for 250 yards through the last six contests.
Nov 6, 2022
Leading receiver in Sunday's win
Fant caught five of six targets for 96 yards in Sunday's 31-21 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
The tight end nearly doubled his previous season high in receiving yards as he led the Seahawks in that category. Fant's target volume remains erratic -- Sunday's five targets represented his second-highest usage of the year -- but his role in the Seattle offense appears to be growing heading into a Week 10 clash with Tampa Bay in Germany.
Nov 4, 2022
Ready for Week 9 action
Fant (hamstring) doesn't have a designation for Sunday's game in Arizona, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After opening the week with back-to-back limited sessions, Fant capped it with all activity Friday, setting him up to be out there Week 9. He'll continue to team with Will Dissly at tight end for the Seahawks, but due to an overreliance on top wideouts DK Metcalf (knee) and Tyler Lockett (hamstring/ribs), there aren't many targets that linger behind that duo. That said, No. 3 wide receiver Marquise Goodwin (groin) isn't playing Sunday, so Fant could be a bit more involved in Seattle's passing game than normal. Through eight games, Fant has reeled in 22 of 28 targets for 176 yards and one touchdown.
Nov 3, 2022
Another limited practice
Fant (hamstring) practiced in a limited capacity Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After kicking off Week 9 prep with back-to-back capped sessions, Fant has just one more opportunity to get back to all activity Friday before Seattle potentially tags him with a designation for Sunday's game in Arizona. If he's able to suit up, he'll be looking to build upon the 22-176-1 line he's put together in eight games this season.
Nov 2, 2022
Tending to hamstring issue
Fant was limited at Wednesday's practice due to a hamstring injury, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Aside from dealing with an illness during Week 7 prep, Fant otherwise has avoided Seattle injury reports this season. The good health hasn't translated to much production in his first campaign with the Seahawks, as he's compiled a 22-176-1 line on 28 targets in eight contests. Fant will use sessions Thursday and Friday to potentially put him on a path to play Sunday in Arizona.
Oct 31, 2022
Puts up 19 yards
Fant caught both of his targets for 19 yards in Sunday's 27-13 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Fant played 46 offensive snaps, barely trailing Will Dissly (50). Neither of the tight ends made an impact for fantasy purposes, as Dissly caught two passes for 12 yards. Through eight games this year, Fant has produced 22 catches for 176 yards and a touchdown.
Oct 24, 2022
One catch in win
Fant caught one of three targets in Sunday's 37-23 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Fant battled an illness early in the practice week, but he handled a season-high 73 percent snap share in Week 7 anyway. However, the 2019 first-round pick finished behind both Will Dissly (four catches for 45 yards) and Colby Parkinson (one catch for 28 yards). Fant hasn't been dependable for fantasy purposes this season, as he hasn't produced more than 50 yards in a game yet.
Oct 20, 2022
Back to full practice
Fant (illness) practiced fully Thursday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After enduring a cap on his reps Wednesday due to an illness, Fant was back to full capacity one day later. He thus is set to seek out his third game in a row with at least 40 yards and five targets Sunday versus a Chargers defense that has given up the third-most YPT (9.2) to opposing tight ends this season.
Oct 19, 2022
Comes down with illness
Fant was limited at Wednesday's practice due to an illness, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant so far has avoided Seattle injury reports in his first season in the Pacific Northwest. That is, until the first session of Week 7 prep. He'll look to get back to full Thursday and/or Friday, at which point the Seahawks may remove his designation entirely. While he had a relatively slow start to his tenure with team -- a combined 10-56-1 line on 11 targets through four games -- Fant has come to life somewhat over the last two contests, hauling in nine of 12 targets for 94 yards and no scores.
Oct 17, 2022
Ties for team lead in targets
Fant recorded six receptions on seven targets for 45 yards in Sunday's 19-9 victory over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Fant saw an uptick of involvement in the offense, tallying a season-high seven targets. He wasn't particularly efficient with the opportunity, but he did manage to lead the team in receptions and yards. Though Fant's usage has been inconsistent to begin his time in Seattle, he now has over 40 yards in each of his last two games.
Oct 10, 2022
Totals 49 yards
Fant caught three of five targets for 49 yards in Sunday's 39-32 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Fant recorded 10 catches for 56 yards and a touchdown through the first four weeks, but he put together his best performance of the season in Week 5. He's still being out-snapped by Will Dissly, who has registered a 14-137-3 line thus far. In turn, Fant will be difficult to trust in fantasy, but Geno Smith's brilliance this year should provide occasional value if it continues.
Oct 3, 2022
Scores first Seahawks touchdown
Fant caught his lone target for a two-yard touchdown in Sunday's 48-45 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Fant now has 10 catches on 11 targets for 56 yards and a touchdown through four games. Fellow tight end Will Dissly has played more snaps over the last two games, and he has been more successful as a pass-catcher this season with 116 yards and three touchdowns. For the time being, Fant isn't trustworthy in fantasy.
Sep 26, 2022
Four targets in losing effort
Fant hauled in all four of his targets for 27 yards in Sunday's 27-23 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Fant had one more target and reception than fellow tight end, Will Dissly, but it was the latter who was the beneficiary of a Geno Smith touchdown pass. The even split in playing time and targets has left both veteran tight ends with little to no fantasy appeal heading into a Week 4 matchup with the Lions.
Sep 19, 2022
Snares two passes
Fant caught both of his targets for 11 yards in Sunday's 27-7 loss to the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Fant handled 26 of the 49 offensive snaps, while fellow tight end Will Dissly was on the field for 23 snaps. Still, Fant has produced just five catches for 27 yards through two games. It doesn't appear that he'll have a big role on offense this season, as DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett are the focal points of the passing game.
Sep 13, 2022
Picks up 16 yards
Fant caught three of four targets for 16 yards in Monday's 17-16 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Fant logged 31 offensive snaps, which was second to Will Dissly but ahead of Colby Parkinson. However, both Dissly and Parkinson managed to produce 43 yards and a touchdown. Fant is not the clear No. 1 tight end as many had hoped, and with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett leading the pass-catchers, his production could be volatile all year.
Aug 27, 2022
No targets in preseason finale
Fant wasn't targeted in Friday's 27-26 preseason loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Fant played just 16 offensive snaps in the preseason finale. He has been quiet during the preseason, catching just three passes for 17 yards. Nevertheless, he's expected to be the No. 3 target in Seattle's offense behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. Geno Smith was named the starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Broncos.
Aug 19, 2022
Lacking chemistry with Smith
Fant caught his only target for minus-3 yards in Thursday's 27-11 preseason loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Fant's only touch came in the second quarter, as he wasn't heavily involved despite seeing substantially more playing time than starting wide receivers D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett (one series each). Seattle was shut out in the first half with Geno Smith under center the entire time, which could open the door for Fant's former Broncos teammate Drew Lock to push for the starting quarterback job if he can recover from COVID-19 in time to face the Cowboys in the Aug. 26 preseason finale.
Aug 14, 2022
Rings up 20 yards
Fant caught two of three targets for 20 yards in Saturday's 32-25 preseason loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Fant only played 20 offensive snaps, all of which were in the first half, so all three of his targets were from Geno Smith. The 2019 first-round pick was solid as a blocker and pass catcher; he didn't need to prove much in the exhibition contest. We should expect Fant's reps to remain limited for the rest of the preseason.
Jun 29, 2022
Draws high praise from coach
Head coach Pete Carroll said Fant had the "most spectacular camp of anybody" following the team's offseason program, Brady Henderson of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks received Fant from Denver in the Russell Wilson trade, and it appears he's already making a strong first impression with the coaching staff. The 2019 first-round pick posted 68 catches for 670 yards and four touchdowns last season while catching passes from Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock. Lock will compete with Geno Smith to start for the Seahawks this year, and neither quarterback should be considered an upgrade. Nevertheless, Fant has an opportunity to be a solid underneath threat while DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett draw the attention of defenses.
Apr 12, 2022
Gets fifth-year option
The Seahawks picked up the fifth-year option on Fant's rookie contract Tuesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2019 first-round pick was part of the March trade that sent QB Russell Wilson to the Broncos and QB Drew Lock back to the Seahawks. While Fant's prospects for 2022 partially hinge on Lock improving or the Seahawks finding a better QB, there's a good chance the 24-year-old tight end will have more than one year to figure things out in Seattle. The fifth-year option is for a fully guaranteed $6.85 million, a reasonable figure from the team's point of view even if Fant hasn't quite lived up to the standards of a 20th overall draft pick. The upcoming season will be his fourth in the NFL, with the option then applying to 2023.
Mar 8, 2022
Part of Wilson deal
The Broncos dealt Fant, quarterback Drew Lock, defensive end Shelby Harris and five draft picks to the Seahawks for Russell Wilson and a fourth-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With the move, Fant potentially will have some familiarity with the starting quarterback in his new locale, having played with Lock in each of his three seasons to date. Overall, Fant has 170 catches and 10 touchdowns in 47 career games while racking up at least 500 yards each year. The 2019 first-rounder should slot in as the Seahawks' top tight end in 2022.
Jan 12, 2022
One catch in season finale
Fant caught one of two targets for 16 yards in Saturday's 28-24 loss to the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Fant's one grab in Week 18 was his lowest reception total in 2021, which was a fitting end to what was mostly a disappointing season. The tight end finished the season with 68 catches for 670 yards and four touchdowns. Fant's talent is undeniable, but Denver's often abysmal passing attack and weak quarterback play certainly impacted his ability to see sustained success this season. The 24-year-old has one year left on his rookie deal, as he is set to become a free agent in 2023. If he is to have a strong contract year in 2022, an upgrade at the quarterback position would go a long way in helping to provide a spark for him and the rest of Denver's talented group of pass catchers. Fellow tight end Albert Okwuegbunam is a player to keep an eye on in Denver, as the team involved him more on offense in his second year. If Okwuegbunam's role continues to grow, it could have an impact on Fant's target share going forward.
Jan 6, 2022
Approaches finale minus designation
Fant (quadriceps) doesn't have an injury designation for Saturday's game against the Chiefs, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant received clearance for the season finale after practicing fully Thursday after he had been listed as a limited participant on the Broncos' initial two Week 18 reports. The tight end is coming off an impressive 6-92-1 receiving performance in the Broncos' Week 17 loss to the Chargers, but he could be in store for a reduction in the seven targets he saw in the previous contest now that starting wideouts Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick have been cleared to play following one-game stints on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Jan 5, 2022
Limited at Wednesday's practice
Fant (quadriceps) was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant was also listed as a limited participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report after presumably picking up the injury while catching six of seven targets for 92 yards and a touchdown during the Week 17 loss to the Chargers. The 24-year-old could avoid an injury designation for Saturday's matchup with the Chiefs if he's able to practice fully Thursday.
Jan 4, 2022
Limited by quad issue
Denver listed Fant as a limited participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report due to a quadriceps injury, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
While Denver had two of its three starting wideouts in Jerry Jeudy (illness) and Tim Patrick (illness) on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Fant took on an expanded role in the passing attack in the team's 34-13 loss to the Chargers in Week 17. Fant finished with six receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown on seven targets, with the yardage total just five off his season-best mark. In the aftermath of the busy game, Fant is apparently banged up, but his listing as a limited participant offers hope that he'll be ready to go by the time Saturday's season finale against the Chiefs arrives.
Jan 2, 2022
Big day in loss
Fant caught six of seven targets for 92 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-13 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
He was the Broncos' leading receiver on the afternoon, although his five-yard TD late in the fourth quarter did little but boost his fantasy production. Fant has set new career highs in catches (67) and touchdowns (four) this season, and he needs only 20 more receiving yards in Week 18 against Kansas City to reach a new personal best in that category as well.
Dec 29, 2021
Catches three passes in loss
Fant secured three of four targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 17-13 loss to the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Fant's underwhelming season continued in Week 16, as the tight end failed to produce much for fantasy purposes. Notably, Fant has not found the end zone since Week 6, the last time the Broncos played the Raiders. The Broncos' passing game has been ineffective for the majority of the season, and it was more of the same with Drew Lock starting under center. Fant and the Broncos will visit the Chargers in Week 17, but the 6-foot-4, 249-pounder will be difficult to trust in fantasy lineups.
Dec 19, 2021
Produces against Bengals
Fant recorded five receptions on six targets for 57 yards in Sunday's 15-10 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Fant led the team with 5 receptions and finished behind only Albert Okwuegbunam in receiving yards. He did the majority of his damage on big plays, highlighted by a 28-yard gain early in the second quarter that came primarily after the catch. Notably, Fant produced with both Teddy Bridgewater (concussion) and Drew Lock under center, so he may be able to carry this strong performance into a Week 16 matchup against Las Vegas regardless of who is under center. In addition, Fant has shown a safe floor of late, recorded at least four receptions in four of his last five contests.
Dec 14, 2021
Catches four passes in win
Fant caught all four of his targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 38-10 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Fant's 51 receiving yards were a team-high, though it was Denver's No. 2 tight end Albert Okwuegbunam who had the better fantasy day. Fant played on 50 offensive snaps, while Okwuegbunam was in on 38. The latter, however, found the end zone on four-yard catch late in the game. Like the rest of Denver's pass catchers, Fant has been underwhelming for several weeks, and the veteran has not scored a touchdown since Week 6. The 6-foot-4, 249-pounder will be hard to trust down the stretch, starting with a Week 15 matchup against the Bengals.
Dec 6, 2021
33 yards in loss
Fant caught all four targets for 33 yards in Sunday's 22-9 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Javonte Williams (102 rushing yards and 76 receiving yards) shouldered the load on offense, resulting in lackluster outputs from the majority of Denver's receiving unit. Fant was providing some fantasy value earlier in the season, but the tight end has seen his production drop off of late, averaging a shade under four receptions and 30.2 receiving yards over his last five contests. The 23-year-old will attempt to bounce back in a favorable matchup against the Lions next Sunday.
Nov 28, 2021
Three catches in win
Fant caught three of four targets for 12 yards in Sunday's 28-13 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
While the yardage was poor, Fant tied for the team lead in receptions with Javonte Williams, and he might have had a more appealing fantasy performance if depth tight end Eric Saubert hadn't vultured a one-yard TD in the fourth quarter. Fant has caught multiple passes in every game he's played this season, but he might need to be more productive in Week 13 against Kansas City.
Nov 16, 2021
Catches five passes in loss
Fant caught five of six targets for 59 yards in Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Fant played the most snaps at tight end as the Broncos' No. 1 option at the position, but it was his backup Albert Okwuegbunam who led the team in receiving Sunday. Overall, Fant has been a disappointment for fantasy managers hoping for a breakout year for the 23-year-old. Over the past two games, he has also seen his snap percentage drop to 78 percent, after being 90 percent or above for the four weeks prior. This is likely a function of Okwuegbunam's increased involvement on offense. The Broncos get a bye in Week 11, but Fant will look to have a bounce back performance in Week 12 against the Chargers.
Nov 10, 2021
Activated from COVID list
Fant has been activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
ANALYSIS
Fant, who was placed on the list on Nov. 2 and missed this past Sunday's game against the Cowboys, is thus slated to practice Wednesday and is in line to return to the lineup this weekend against the Eagles. In eight games this season, Fant has logged 37 catches (on 53 targets) for 320 yards and three TDs, numbers that make him a viable weekly fantasy option at the tight end position.
Nov 8, 2021
Nearing return to practice
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Fant (illness) is close to clearing the league's COVID-19 protocols, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fangio is optimistic that Fant will be able to rejoin the Broncos on Tuesday, but he has "one last hurdle" to clear before he's activated. The tight end has been on the reserve/COVID-19 list since Nov. 2 after testing positive for the virus, but it appears as though he has a good chance to return to the field Sunday against the Eagles.
Nov 7, 2021
Not available Sunday
Fant (illness) won't play in Sunday's game at Dallas, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
As predicted by coach Vic Vangio on Friday, Fant was unable to make his way through league protocols and be activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list after testing positive for the virus Tuesday. He'll thus yield primary TE duties to Albert Okwuegbunam (knee), while Eric Saubert and Andrew Beck are on hand to step in at the position.
Nov 5, 2021
Not expected to play
Coach Vic Fangio believes Fant (illness) won't come off the reserve/COVID-19 list in time to suit up Sunday in Dallas, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Denver has one of the league's more intriguing backup tight ends in Albert Okwuegbunam, but he's questionable himself due to a knee injury, so Eric Saubert could be pushed into a featured role come Sunday. Considering Fant is vaccinated, there's a good chance he'll be able to return in time for the Broncos' Week 10 home game against the Eagles.
Nov 4, 2021
Not yet ruled out for Week 9
Fant (illness), who landed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday following a positive test for the virus, could still have a chance to play Sunday in Dallas, George Stoia III of The Denver Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Stoia, Fant is vaccinated, which gives him a chance for a quicker return than unvaccinated player, who would be forced to remain away from the team for at least 10 days following a positive test. Fant has continued to test positive since entering quarantine, so he'll still need to submit two negative test results at least 24 hours apart and display no symptoms of the virus before he's eligible to rejoin the Broncos. The team should have more clarity heading into Sunday whether Fant is available or not, but Albert Okwuegbunam (knee) would be the next man up to fill in as Denver's starting tight end, assuming Okwuegbunam can overcome the injury that limited him in practice to begin the week.
Nov 2, 2021
Tests positive for COVID-19
Fant's placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday was the result of a positive test for the virus, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Thus, Fant will need to produce a pair of negative tests 24 hours apart in order to be eligible to play Sunday at Dallas. He has time to do just that, but the Broncos likely are preparing for him to be sidelined for at least one game. If Fant doesn't clear league protocols in time to suit up Week 9, the Broncos will be down to Albert Okwuegbunam, Eric Saubert and Andrew Beck at tight end.
Nov 2, 2021
Lands on COVID-19 list
The Broncos placed Fant (undisclosed) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant has served as the Broncos' clear No. 1 tight end this season, recording 37 catches (on 53 targets) for 320 yards and three touchdowns in eight games. It's unclear if he tested positive for COVID-19 and whether or not he's vaccinated, which are the two things that'll determine when he's able to rejoin his teammates. If he takes a seat Sunday in Dallas, Fant will yield TE duties to Albert Okwuegbunam, Eric Saubert and Andrew Beck.
Nov 2, 2021
Catches two passes
Fant secured two of four targets for eight yards in Sunday's 17-10 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Fant's four targets were tied for a team-high, but the tight end had an overall tough day in the office. His eight yards were the lowest on the team Sunday, as the Broncos squeezed out a win in a low-scoring affair. Fellow tight end Albert Okwuegbunam made his return to the field and played on 49 percent of Denver's offensive snaps, compared to Fant's 77 percent share. With Okwuegbunam and wideout Jerry Jeudy finally back in the offense, Fant may have a difficult time consistently producing for fantasy. The 23-year-old will look to get back on track against in a Week 8 matchup against the Cowboys.
Oct 22, 2021
Five catches in defeat
Fant brought in five of seven targets for 39 yards in the Broncos' 17-14 loss to the Browns on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Fant drew even with Courtland Sutton for second in receptions on the night for Denver and also checked in as the runner-up, albeit a distant one, in receiving yards. The third-year tight end battled through now has 14 receptions on 18 targets over the last two games, a level of volume he and fantasy managers will hope persists in Week 8 against Washington a week from Sunday.
Oct 20, 2021
Cleared for Thursday night
Fant (foot) practiced fully Wednesday and doesn't have an injury designation for Thursday's game in Cleveland, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant is good to go on a short week and will be coming off his best performance of the season, as he delivered a 9-97-1 line on 11 targets while the Broncos were forced into catchup mode for most of last Sunday's loss to the Raiders. Another healthy dose of targets should be headed Fant's way Week 7 regardless of the game script, though he may have to make do with Drew Lock at quarterback rather than Teddy Bridgewater. After being listed as a limited participant throughout the week while tending to foot and quadriceps injuries, Bridgewater is listed as questionable for Thursday's contest.
Oct 19, 2021
Stays limited Tuesday
Fant (foot) was limited at Tuesday's walkthrough, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant remained limited on the Broncos' second injury report of Week 7 prep by a foot injury. Meanwhile, QB Teddy Bridgewater also has had a cap on his practice reps, and there's no guarantee he'll be available Thursday at Cleveland. Fant is coming off a three-game stretch in which he earned 90-plus percent of the offensive snaps each time on his way to 18 catches (on 25 targets) for 163 yards and one TD. Assuming he's cleared for Thursday's contest, he'll look to keep it going with Bridgewater under center, which may not be confirmed until 90 minutes before the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff.
Oct 18, 2021
Limited on Week 7 practice report
Denver lists Fant as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report due to a foot injury, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant feasted in garbage time of Sunday's 34-24 loss to the Raiders, with much of his 9-97-1 stat line on a season-high 11 targets coming in the second half, when the Broncos were forced to lean heavily on the passing game. The tight end looks like he may have hurt his foot at some point along the way, but the fact that he's being listed as a limited participant on the Broncos' first Week 7 injury report suggests he's on a path to play Thursday in Cleveland.
Oct 17, 2021
Big game against Vegas
Fant caught nine of 11 targets for 97 yards and one touchdown against Las Vegas on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The Broncos offense struggled for much of the game and Fant didn't really get into high gear until the second half, but this box score is elite tight end production and the kind of thing Fant might be more regularly capable of if the Broncos keep sending the targets his way. After allowing five sacks and an incredible 17 quarterback hits against Vegas the Broncos need to do a much better job of managing the pass rush for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, and the imminent return of Jerry Jeudy (ankle) threatens Fant's target share somewhat, but Fant is convincing for his own part at least. Denver heads to Cleveland in Week 7.
Oct 3, 2021
Finds end zone in Sunday's loss
Fant caught six of 10 targets for 46 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-7 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
The tight end led Denver in targets and receptions on the afternoon -- in fact, no other Bronco caught more than three passes -- but Fant's longest grab went for only 14 yards. He did account for the team's only points on a three-yard toss from Teddy Bridgewater in the second quarter, but with Bridgewater now dealing with a concussion, the Broncos' passing game will be a big question mark heading into a Week 5 clash with the Steelers.
Sep 27, 2021
Quiet in win
Fant secured two receptions on three targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 26-0 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Fant was not a big part of the game plan in Week 3 as the Broncos cruised to victory over the hapless Jets. His three targets were tied for third most on a day when quarterback Teddy Bridgewater threw 25 passes. With wide receiver KJ Hamler going down with a knee injury Sunday, it is likely that the veteran tight end could see a bump in his usage going forward if Hamler is forced to miss time. The Broncos are already without Jerry Jeudy, so Denver's pass catching group is getting thinner. The 6-foot-4, 249-pounder's athleticism will likely be relied on to help the offense move the chains going forward. Fant gets a shot to bounce back when the Broncos host the Ravens in Week 4.
Sep 24, 2021
Will suit up Sunday
Fant (ankle) participated fully in practice Friday and is expected to play Sunday against the Jets, Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant logged a pair of limited sessions to start the week, but his status for Week 3 was never really in doubt. The 2019 first-round pick is looking to make the leap into the upper echelon of pass-catchers at the tight end position, and he's off to a solid start, with 10 catches for 95 yards and a touchdown through two games.
Sep 23, 2021
Turns in another limited session
Fant (ankle) will be a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
For the second day in a row, Fant will have his reps capped while he manages an ankle injury, but the Broncos have yet to suggest the issue is anything that will prevent him from playing Sunday against the Jets. Ideally, Fant will upgrade to full participation in practice Friday, which should clear the way for him to enter the weekend without an injury designation.
Sep 22, 2021
Limited to start week
Fant (ankle) as a limited practice participant Wednesday, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant has seen 14 targets on 77 percent snap share through two games, catching 10 passes for 95 yards and a TD. A limited practice should put him on track to play against the Jets on Sunday, though Denver has a promising backup tight end in Albert Okwuegbunam.
Sep 19, 2021
Finds end zone
Fant recorded four receptions on six targets for 33 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 2 matchup against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Fant was the team's second-most targeted receiver in the absence of Jerry Jeudy (ankle). The majority of his work was limited to short areas of the field, and he managed only 5.5 yards per target as a result. However, he found the end zone from 14 yards away -- it was his only catch that went for double-digit yards -- to prop up his production. Fant should remain heavily involved in the offense in another exploitable matchup in Week 3 against the Jets.
Sep 12, 2021
Targeted eight times
Fant recorded six receptions on eight targets for 62 yards in the Broncos' Week 1 victory against the Giants on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Fant led the team in targets, though that title likely would have belonged to Jerry Jeudy had the latter not suffered an ankle injury in the middle of the game. Fant served primarily as a target in the short areas of the field for Teddy Bridgewater, though he did manage to record a 25-yard reception. Perhaps most importantly, Fant should be in for a more consistent role in the offense while Jeudy remains sidelined and Courtland Sutton continues to ramp up after returning from a knee injury. Fant and the rest of the Broncos' receiving corps should be in for a good matchup against the Jaguars.
Sep 9, 2021
Returns to full practice
Fant (knee) practiced fully Thursday.
ANALYSIS
With that, Fant is slated to be ready to play against the Giants in Sunday's season opener, with Teddy Bridgewater getting the start at QB for Denver. Fant, along with top wideouts Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy, is thus in line to be a key weapon in the Broncos' passing attack out of the gate this season. In that context, an uptick from Fant's 62/673/3 stat line (in 15 games) from last year seems plausible in 2021.
Sep 9, 2021
Full practice expected
Coach Vic Fangio expects Fant (knee) to be a full practice participant Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
If that's the case, the tight end will clearly be trending in the right direction as Sunday's season opener against the Giants approaches. Thursday's injury report will reveal whether or not Fant's on-field activity matches up with Fangio's pre-practice expectations.
Sep 8, 2021
Logs limited practice
Fant (knee) was limited at Wednesday's practice, Ben Swanson of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Aric DiLalla of the team's official site, coach Vic Fangio previously indicated that he thinks Fant should be available Sunday against the Giants. However, it's still worth monitoring the tight end's progress as the week progresses to see if he approaches Week 1 action with an official injury designation.
Sep 6, 2021
On track to play Sunday
Fant (leg) participated in individual drills during Monday's practice, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
DiLalla adds that coach Vic Fangio believes that Fant should be able to play Sunday against the Giants. That's a notion that should be solidified, one way or the other, as the Broncos continue their preparation leading up their Week 1 kickoff. The team's first practice/injury report of 2021 is due Wednesday.
Sep 2, 2021
Not practicing
Fant (leg) isn't practicing Thursday, but he's still expected to return to practice next week, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
He's been out of practice for more than a week now, leaving Albert Okwuegbunam, Eric Saubert and Andrew Back as the Broncos' tight ends. The Broncos expect Fant to play Week 1 against the Giants, but we'll start to be concerned if he isn't on the practice field next week.
Aug 26, 2021
Should be fine for opener
Fant (leg) should be ready for Week 1, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant has missed practice all week and won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams. After that, the Broncos will have two weeks to prepare for their Sept. 12 opener against the Giants, with Teddy Bridgewater getting the start at QB. The breakout case for Fant remains solid, though he'll have no shortage of competition for targets in the Denver offense.
Aug 25, 2021
Misses another practice
Fant (leg) didn't practice Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The tight end continues to manage an unspecified leg injury, but DiLalla relayed Tuesday that Fant's issue is not believed to be a long-term concern. When the 2019 first-rounder does return to the field, however, he'll look to continue to build chemistry with Teddy Bridgewater, who was named the Broncos' starting QB on Wednesday.
Aug 24, 2021
Nursing leg issue
Fant didn't participate at Tuesday's practice due to a leg injury, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The specifics of the issue remain unclear, though coach Vic Fangio indicated it isn't believed to be a serious concern. Fant seemingly picked up the injury during last Saturday's preseason matchup with the Seahawks, when he wasn't targeted in 21 offensive snaps. Even if the 23-year-old makes a quick return to practice, he may not seem much, if any, action during Saturday's preseason finale versus the Rams.
Aug 22, 2021
Quiet in limited role
Fant wasn't targeted in 21 offensive snaps in Saturday's 30-3 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Fant was a non-factor in Week 2 of the preseason, but the 23-year-old tight end figures to be a key component of the Broncos' passing attack in 2021. According to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic, Fant will likely be used in creative ways and run routes deeper down field, as well. The 6-foot-4, 249-pounder will compete for targets with the likes of Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, and KJ Hamler in the passing game, so it may be tough for him to find consistent production in the Denver offense. However, it appears the coaching staff would like to get Fant more involved, so the former first round pick may earn a solid percentage of the target share among Denver's pass catchers.
Aug 2, 2021
Looks to make impact in variety of ways
Based on what he's seen early on in training camp, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic suggests that Fant "is likely to be used in more creative ways" during his second campaign working in Pat Shurmur's offense.
ANALYSIS
Fant, who recorded a team-high 62 catches (on 93 targets) for 673 yards and three TDs in 15 games last season, is going to be a big part of Denver's passing attack, regardless of who the team's QB is, an outcome that's pending an ongoing competition between Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock. Per the report, getting Fant -- who averaged 10.9 yards per reception last season, which was down from his 14.1 mark as a rookie -- "involved deeper down the field appears to be a priority" early in training camp, with the 2019 first-rounder noting that he expects to make an impact on all sorts of routes (deep, intermediate and short) this season. Wideouts Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler and Tim Patrick will no doubt command their share of targets, but if Fant's is indeed utilized in a variety of ways, there should be enough looks for him to maintain steady fantasy utility in 2021.
Jun 25, 2021
Starting QB TBD
Though Fant remains firmly atop the Broncos' tight end depth chart, it remains to be seen whether Teddy Bridgewater or Drew Lock will be the team's Week 1 starter at QB, ESPN's Jeff Legwold reports.
ANALYSIS
In his third season as a pro, Fant is being counted on to be a big part of the Broncos' passing game, regardless of who earns the team's starting signal caller job. The 2019 first-rounder logged 62 catches (on 93 targets) for 673 yards and three TDs in 15 games last season, numbers that the 6-foot-4, 249-pounder will look to eclipse this season in an aerial attack that should be more balanced thanks to the return of Courtland Sutton from a knee injury, which bolsters a wideout corps that also includes 2020 first-rounder Jerry Jeudy, big-bodied Tim Patrick and K.J. Hamler, a second-round pick last year.
Jan 13, 2021
Snags team-leading 62 passes
Fant reeled in 62 of 93 passes for 673 yards and three touchdowns during the 2020 season.
ANALYSIS
New offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, a former tight ends coach himself, is known for loving the position and so it was intriguing to see how he was going to use Fant during his sophomore year. The answer was as more of a short-range, volume target than his predecessor Rich Scangarello. Fant averaged 4.1 catches per game in 2020, up from 2.5 in 2019, but his yards per catch fell by more than three -- from 14.1 in 2019 to 10.9 in 2020. Part of that was Fant was catching the ball shorter -- his yards before catch dropped from 5.8 in 2019 to 4.7 in 2020. Fant's ability to use his athleticism to cut up the field also was a factor. Fant fell off dramatically after injuring his ankle in Week 4 against the Jets -- an injury he never quite recovered from. Expect a junior jump for Fant with a full offseason in the offense and, hopefully, better health in 2021.
Jan 4, 2021
Played through injury all year
Fant said Monday that he never got '100 percent' healthy in 2020 after injuring his ankle against the Jets in Week 4, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant only officially missed one game due to his ankle injury, but as evidenced by the fact that he was never able to surpass the 81 receiving yards he logged Week 1, it appears that the 23-year-old tight end never got back to full form. Still, Fant's 62 catches (93 targets) for 673 yards and three scores through 15 games paint the picture of a successful sophomore campaign, especially considering the context of Denver's offensive woes and how slowly young tight ends usually develop. Given that Fant managed to avoid the Broncos' injury report entirely to close out the year, there's no reason to be concerned that his ankle issue will linger into offseason workouts.
Dec 27, 2020
Six grabs Sunday
Fant caught six of nine targets for 65 yards in Sunday's 19-16 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
The tight end is having a strong close to his second NFL campaign, hauling in 14 catches for 133 yards and a TD on 20 targets over the last two games. Fant will look to keep his momentum rolling in Week 17's clash with the Raiders.
Dec 19, 2020
Dominates target share Week 15
Fant reeled in eight of 11 targets for 68 yards and a touchdown during Saturday's 48-19 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
After being forced to exit last Sunday's win against Carolina in the first quarter because of an illness, Fant got back on track with a lucrative Week 15 performance. The second-year tight end attracted greater than double the targets of Denver's second-busiest option, Jerry Jeudy, while also racking up more catches and receiving yards than the entire receiving corps combined. Fant proved capable of snapping a 10-game scoring drought during the loss to Buffalo. Now, he shifts focus to a Chargers defense that ranks second worst in the NFL with 10 receiving TDs allowed to opposing tight ends.
Dec 16, 2020
Returns to full practice
Fant (illness) practiced fully Wednesday, putting him on track to play Saturday against the Bills, Troy Renck of ABC Denver7 reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant was listed as a non-participant in Denver's practice estimate Tuesday, but he seems to have fully recovered and is on track to play Saturday against a Bills team that has struggled to defend tight end. Buffalo has allowed the most catches (75) and second-most yards (833) to the position this season, along with seven touchdowns.
Dec 16, 2020
Should be fine for Week 15 action
Coach Vic Fangio indicated Wednesday that Fant (illness) is fine, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Supporting that notion would be a full practice listing on Fant's part Wednesday, but based on Fangio's assessment it looks like the tight end should be a go for Saturday's game against the Bills.
Dec 15, 2020
No 'reps' Tuesday
Fant (illness) is listed as a non-participant on Tuesday's practice estimate, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant made an early exit from Sunday's game at Carolina after coming down with an illness. He remained in Charlotte until Monday, when he tested negative for COVID-19 and was cleared to return to Denver. Still, Fant wouldn't have taken the field Tuesday if the Broncos had held a session. He'll aim to do so at some point before Saturday's contest against the Bills, but if Fant eventually isn't able to suit up, Denver will turn to Nick Vannett and Troy Fumagalli at tight end.
Dec 14, 2020
Traveling back to Denver
Fant (illness) returned negative PRC/POC tests for COVID-19 on Monday and will travel back to Denver, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant exited Sunday's win over the Panthers before drawing a target. Per Klis, Fant began to feel ill early, prompting the Broncos to take precautions for COVID-19. Coach Vic Fangio said after the game that Fant's illness my have been food poisoning, and now that he's tested negative for two straight days it looks like the second-year tight end will avoid a stint on the COVID list.
Dec 13, 2020
Forced out of Sunday's game
Coach Vic Fangio believes that the illness that caused Fant to exit Sunday's win over the Panthers may have been food poisoning, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Once Fant, who wasn't targeted prior to his exit from the contest, was out of action, Nick Vannett and Troy Fumagalli handled Denver's tight end duties. Per Legwold, Fant tested negative for COVID-19 on Sunday, but will remain in Charlotte for the night and return to Denver on Monday if he tests negative again.
Dec 13, 2020
Exits Sunday's game
Fant was forced out of Sunday's game against the Panthers with an illness, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant was not targeted prior to his exit from the contest. Next up for the team's tight end snaps in his absence are Nick Vannett and Troy Fumagalli.
Dec 7, 2020
Leads team in receiving
Fant converted a team-high seven targets into four receptions for 57 yards in Sunday's 22-16 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Fant continues to blossom as a receiving threat while slowly shedding the "bust" label that followed him after being selected in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The 22-year-old still struggles getting open in the end zone -- just two touchdowns through 12 games -- but he is consistently churning out high-floor, low-ceiling performances (excluding last week's bizarre contest which can be disregarded completely). There isn't a ton of upside here until he can develop into a reliable red-zone threat, but Fant is beginning to show some life in his sophomore campaign. Up next is a road tilt with the Panthers on Sunday.
Nov 29, 2020
Logs team's only reception
Fant reeled in one of his two targets for 13 yards during Sunday's 31-3 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
The tight end came down with Denver's only reception of the afternoon, as Kendall Hinton struggled in his NFL debut. To be fair, the young signal-caller joined Denver's practice squad Nov. 4 as a wide receiver and he had minuscule time to prepare for his first start, but that doesn't help deep-league fantasy managers who were depending on a decent outing from Fant. The Iowa product yielded 35-plus receiving yards in his first seven appearances of the season, but he's now been held under 20 yards in two of his last three appearances. If Drew Lock is activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list in time for a Week 13 matchup against Kansas City, Fant's prospects will be exponentially improved.
Nov 24, 2020
Hauls in four passes in win
Fant caught four of five targets for 55 yards during Sunday's 20-13 win over Miami.
ANALYSIS
Fant kick-started a key, clock-draining drive midway through the fourth quarter when he took a short pass at the sideline and broke back over the middle of the field for a 29-yard catch-and-run. The play helped Fant reach his highest yardage mark since Week 2. His 33 yards after the catch were his third most this season. Denver found a groove Sunday with Drew Lock booting out and finding Fant and fellow tight end Nick Vannett in the flat. Look for that to continue against a Saints team that can push the pocket, but has been so-so covering tight ends.
Nov 22, 2020
Active in Week 11
Fant (ribs) is active for Sunday's Week 11 tilt against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
The athletic tight end ran the gamut of practice participation during the week, finishing up with a full session Friday that supported the notion of active status Sunday. That's now official, meaning Fant will once again serve as the primary tight end option against a Dolphins defense that's surrendered a 36-343-4 line to the position this season.
Nov 20, 2020
On track to play Sunday
Coach Vic Fangio said Friday that he expects Fant (ribs), who is listed as questionable, to play in Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Jon Heath of BroncosWire reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site, Fangio said that Fant is in a "good spot" after practicing at full speed Friday, putting him on pace to suit up in Sunday's AFC showdown. If Fant in fact plays, it's unsettled who he'll catch passes from, as Drew Lock (ribs) is questionable, and Brett Rypien likely would start under center if Lock can't go.
Nov 20, 2020
Questionable against Miami
Fant (ribs) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
If Fant suits up, it's possible he'll be catching passes from backup Brett Rypien, as starting quarterback Drew Lock (elbow) is also questionable. Nick Vannett -- who has just six catches all season -- would top Denver's tight end depth chart if Fant ends up sitting out.
Nov 19, 2020
Returns to limited session
Fant (ribs) returned to a limited practice Thursday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant sat out Wednesday's session, so the tight end's return to the field Thursday bodes well for his chances of playing Sunday against the Dolphins. Per Mike Klis of 9News Denver, coach Vic Fangio said that he's confident Fant will play this weekend, a notion that would be supported by his return to a full practice Friday.
Nov 19, 2020
Back at practice
Fant (ribs) returned to practice Thursday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reporters.
ANALYSIS
It remains to be seen if he's listed as a full or limited participant, but Fant's return to the field Thursday, in any capacity, has the tight end trending in the right direction as Sunday's game against the Dolphins approaches.
Nov 18, 2020
Battling rib injury
A rib injury was responsible for Fant's absence from practice Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
On one hand, it's encouraging that Fant hasn't aggravated the ankle injury that has bothered him in recent weeks. On the other, it's concerning that he's battling a new injury to his ribs. Nick Vannett is the only healthy tight end option left on a Denver depth chart that has been decimated by injuries and would step into a starting role Sunday against the Dolphins if Fant's injury proves serious enough to sideline him.
Nov 18, 2020
Missing Wednesday's practice
Fant is not practicing Wednesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant may be dealing with residual effects from the high-ankle sprain he's dealt with since early October, though he didn't carry an injury designation into last weekend's loss in Las Vegas. When Denver's first practice report of the week is released later Wednesday afternoon, the official reason for Fant's absence will be disclosed.
Nov 17, 2020
Grabs three passes
Fant caught three of seven targets of 18 yards during Sunday's loss in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Fant's 18 yards Sunday were a season low and the sophomore tight end has not topped fifty yards in a game since Week 2. He's averaging just 8.8 yards per catch during that same span. Part of that can be attributed to offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur's scheme. Fant seems to run a ton of quick hitches and routes that have him finding the soft spots in the low zones. The fact remains, however, that he and Drew Lock seem to miscommunicate on a shot downfield at least once per game. Late in Sunday's game, for instance, Fant was running up field when Lock had pressure in his face and got rid of the ball early. Fant didn't turn around for the early pass, which would have been a gain of at least 15-20 yards. Patience is necessary for two young players in their first season in a new scheme, but they'll need to pick up the pieces quickly against a very tough Miami defense.

Practices without limitations
Fant (ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant aggravated a lingering ankle injury during Sunday's loss to the Falcons and couldn't practice Wednesday, but it now looks like he's fully on track to suit up in Las Vegas. Health permitting, Fant could be in line to handle even more opportunities than usual as Denver's starting tight end, with impressive backup Albert Okwuegbunam (knee) out for the season due to an ACL tear.
Nov 11, 2020
Opens week with limited session
Fant (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant aggravated an existing ankle injury during this past Sunday's loss to the Falcons, but he was able to complete the game and finish with three receptions for 45 yards. The second-year tight end has been dealing with this injury since the beginning of October, but coach Vic Fangio expects that he'll continue to play through it. Fant's trending in the right direction to begin the week, and he could be leaned on more moving forward because Albert Okwuegbunam (torn ACL) is done for the year.
Nov 9, 2020
Ankle injury downplayed
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Fant aggravated his lingering ankle injury during Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Falcons, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Fangio said that he expects Fant to be "OK," a notion which is backed up by the fact that the second-year pro was able to return to Sunday's game after limping to the locker room in the first quarter. Fant did seem to be hampered by the injury upon returning, however, as he ended the day with just three catches for 45 yards against an Atlanta defense that's struggled to cover opposing tight ends all season. Moreover, most of his production came via the 32-yard pass he was injured making on the opening drive. With Albert Okwuegbunam (knee) having sustained a season-ending ACL tear during Sunday's loss, Fant's ability to quickly get healthy will be key as Denver's offense and Drew Lock look to remain afloat.

Returns to Sunday's game
Fant (ankle) returned to Sunday's game versus the Falcons, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant caught a 32-yard pass on the opening drive but immediately limped to the sidelines. He got re-taped and sat out a series, but the second-year tight end out of Iowa has returned to action.
Nov 8, 2020
Suffers ankle injury
Fant left Sunday's game at Atlanta due to an ankle injury, Patrick Smyth of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant limped off the field and went to the locker room during the Broncos' first drive of the game. If he's unable to return, he'll finish Week 9 with one 32-yard catch. Albert Okwuegbunam and Nick Vannett are in line for more reps as long as Fant is sidelined.
Nov 1, 2020
Snags seven passes
Fant caught seven of nine targets for 47 yards during Sunday's 31-30 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
With Tim Patrick (hamstring) out of the lineup, Fant served as Drew Lock's security blanket Sunday -- tallying a career-high seven catches. He did most of his damage underneath, finding holes in the Chargers' zone and breaking up field. Fant is getting his opportunities with at least five targets in each game this season -- a number he reached just four times as a rookie in 2019. If there's a gripe to be had, it is that he's not getting the sort of chunk plays he generated last season. Fant is averaging 10.5 yards per catch this season -- down from 14.1 last year -- and he and Lock missed each other on the lone deep shot to Fant Sunday. He may still be hobbled by an ankle sprain suffered earlier this season. Atlanta's defense -- which ranks 28th in the league with 12.2 yards per opponent catch -- could be just what the doctor ordered in Week 8.
Oct 29, 2020
Cleared for Week 8
Fant (ankle) was a full participant in Thursday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Just like last week, Fant opened Week 8 as a limited participant Wednesday before upgrading to full activity a day later. Now that he's further removed from the sprained ankle he sustained Oct. 1, Fant will look to deliver better results Sunday against the Chargers after the Chiefs limited him to three receptions for 38 yards in his return from a one-game absence last week. Fant still played 70 percent of the offensive snaps in that contest, and he should see a slight uptick in work moving forward after playing no fewer than 73 percent of the snaps in any of the Broncos' first three games.
Oct 28, 2020
Limited to start week
Fant (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant started last week limited as well before upgrading to full participation Thursday and handling his typical workload in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs. He should follow a similar path this week ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Chargers, who have allowed 53 yards per game and four total touchdowns to opposing tight ends over six contests this year.
Oct 25, 2020
Three catches in return from injury
Fant caught three of his seven targets for 38 receiving yards during Sunday's 43-16 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
The second-year tight end returned from a one-game absence and tied Albert Okwuegbunam for the team high in targets, though less than half of Fant's looks went for completions. Despite a quiet day for Fant on Sunday, he has garnered a healthy workload of 6.8 targets per game. Fant has also remained a high-floor option, collecting 4.4 catches and 51.4 receiving yards per game with two total TDs. He heads into a Week 8 matchup against a Chargers defense that entered Sunday allowing the 12th-fewest receptions to opposing tight ends (23).
Oct 22, 2020
Practices fully
Fant (ankle) was a full practice participant Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant's upgrade from limited to full activity in practice paves the way for him to return from a one-game absence to play Sunday against the Chiefs. Jake Butt (61 percent offensive snap share), Nick Vannett (45 percent) and Albert Okwuegbunam (38 percent) essentially worked in a timeshare at tight end in the Week 6 win over New England, but Fant should dominate the snaps at the position now that he's healthy again.
Oct 21, 2020
Begins week with limited practice
Fant (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports
ANALYSIS
Fant was limited all week leading up to the Week 6 win over the Patriots, and coach Vic Fangio suggested the tight end was had a "50-50" chance to play. He was ultimately ruled out, but he should have a good chance to play this Sunday versus the Chiefs if he can maintain the upward trajectory. Quarterback Drew Lock will be back under center, and the two will look to pick up where they left off it Fant can shake the injury by Sunday.
Oct 19, 2020
Could return Week 7
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Fant (ankle) has a "chance" to face the Chiefs on Sunday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant is continuing to work his way back from an ankle sprain sustained Week 4. The second-year tight end was initially deemed to have a "50/50" shot for last Sunday's 18-12 win over the Patriots, but he was ultimately ruled out before even flying with the team to New England. He'll look to upgrade his level of practice activity leading up to the Broncos' Week 7 home game against the Chiefs.
Oct 17, 2020
Unable to play Sunday
Fant (ankle) was downgraded to out ahead of Sunday's contest against the Patriots, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Considering coach Vic Fangio suggested the tight end was "50-50 to go this week" on Friday, it's perhaps a bit surprising that Fant won't even travel with the team to New England one day later. That being said, the 22-year-old was ruled out prior to Monday's contest before the game was eventually postponed, so this shouldn't come as a major surprise. Jake Butt, Nick Vannett and Albert Okwuegbunam will likely serve as a three-headed attack in replace of Fant this week.
Oct 16, 2020
Draws questionable tag
Fant (ankle) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Vic Fangio said that Fant "is 50/50 to go this week," so it looks like the second-year tight end's status is still truly up in the air. Fant originally sprained his ankle Week 4 against the Jets, but has since gotten the benefit of an unexpected Week 5 bye after Denver's initially scheduled game against the Patriots was postponed. New England has once again cancelled practices Friday due to a positive COVID-19 test, there are numerous factors surrounding Fant's availability for Week 6.
Oct 15, 2020
Logs limited workout
Fant (ankle) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to the workout, coach Vic Fangio labeled Fant as "50-50" to play Sunday at New England, according to DiLalla. Given that Fant's limited activity in practice matched his listing from Wednesday, it's unlikely the tight end did much to change his questionable status in Fangio's mind. If Fant can put in a full practice Friday, the Broncos would likely have more optimism about his chances of being ready to suit up this weekend without having missed any game action. Fant originally sprained his ankle in the Week 4 win over the Jets and benefited from an unexpected Week 5 bye after the Patriots-Broncos game was postponed following due to positive COVID-19 tests within New England's organization.
Oct 14, 2020
Limited in return to practice
Fant (ankle) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant wasn't able to practice in any capacity last week, so handling restricted reps Wednesday represents a significant step in the right direction. Coach Vic Fangio has called Fant week-to-week due to the ankle injury he sustained Week 4, so it's possible that the starting tight end could have to upgrade to practicing in full before being cleared to return to game action.
Oct 14, 2020
Practicing Wednesday
Fant (ankle) is participating in Wednesday's practice, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
The extent of Fant's practice activity remains to be seen, but it's encouraging to see him get on the field in some capacity after having been absent all last week. The second-year tight end is considered week-to-week due to the ankle injury he picked up Week 4.
Oct 10, 2020
Unsurprisingly ruled out
Fant (ankle) was ruled out ahead of Monday's contest against the Patriots, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
This comes as little surprise considering Fant has been unable to practice all week. Coach Vic Fangio previously stated the second-year tight end is likely week-to-week after injuring his ankle in last Thursday's win over the Jets, although that timeline wasn't supposed to kickstart until Week 6 when the Broncos take on the Dolphins.
Oct 8, 2020
Making progress
Fant (ankle) did not practice Thursday but did get in some work on the side, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant isn't expected to face the Patriots in Week 5, but it looks like he's recovering at a good pace after having been force out of last Thursday's win over the Jets due to an ankle sprain. If the second-year tight end indeed sits out versus New England, his next chance to take the field will come Oct. 18 against the Dolphins.
Oct 7, 2020
Trending in wrong direction
Coach Vic Fangio said Wednesday that Fant (ankle) is a "long shot" to suit up in New England on Sunday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Fangio noted that Fant hasn't yet been officially ruled out for Week 5, but it looks as though the starting tight end would have to make exceedingly quick progress in practice for any chance at suiting up. Adam Schefter of ESPN previously reported that the second-year tight end will be considered week-to-week going forward. Rookie fourth-round pick Albert Okwuegbunam hasn't yet been active this season, but he could get a shot to make his NFL debut versus the Patriots if Fant is indeed unable to go.
Oct 3, 2020
Likely not playing Week 5
Fant is not expected to play next week against the Patriots, but is considered "week-to-week" in subsequent games, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
If there's a bit of a silver lining for Fant it's that he doesn't appear to have suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Thursday's win over the Jets. An elongated absence is hardly a consolation prize considering the Broncos are practically devoid of healthy pass catchers with Courtland Sutton (knee) on IR and Jerry Jeudy banged up entering Thursday's matchup. Albert Okwuegbunam makes for an intriguing speculative add in deep leagues considering his speed (4.49 40-yard dash), but it's worth reiterating the rookie was a healthy inactive Thursday with Jake Butt and Nick Vannett both ahead of him on the depth chart despite the obvious difference in athletic talent.
Oct 2, 2020
Could miss time
Coach Vic Fangio said Friday that Fant (ankle) doesn't have a season-ending injury, but "there's a chance he will miss some time," Troy Renck of Denver7 reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant was carted off during Thursday's win over the Jets, and the team is running tests to determine how long the second-year tight end will be out. It's a positive sign that he avoided a season-ending injury considering how well he's played this season with a 19-219-2 line through four games. However, the Broncos are already without wideout Courland Sutton (torn ACL) for the rest of the season and may need to lean on rookies Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler even more moving forward. Jake Butt, Nick Vannett and possibly rookie Albert Okwuegbunam could see additional snaps during Fant's absence.
Oct 2, 2020
Ankle injury downplayed
Fant sustained a "minor" ankle injury during Thursday's win over the Jets, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant avoiding a serious injury is a piece of much-needed good news for a Denver team that's already lost numerous star players for multiple weeks, and some for the season. The starting tight end was carted off the field in the second half of Thursday's win, and he was quickly ruled out to return after being examined in the locker room. Fant will now get the benefit of an extra three days of rest before the Broncos head to New England in Week 5.
Oct 1, 2020
Won't return Thursday
Fant (ankle) is ruled out to return to Thursday's game against the Jets, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant was carted off the field in the third quarter and immediately taken to the locker room for examination. In addition to the loss of Fant, Denver's offense is now without all of Drew Lock (shoulder), KJ Hamler (hamstring) and Phillip Lindsay (toe) for the remainder of Thursday's contest, with Courtland Sutton (knee - ACL) also already having been lost for the year. The second-year tight end's first chance to retake the field will come Oct. 11 at New England.
Oct 1, 2020
Carted off field Thursday
Fant is questionable to return to Thursday's game against the Jets due to an ankle injury, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant had to be carted off the field in the third quarter after taking a blow to the lower leg. Rookie second-round pick KJ Hamler (hamstring) has also been ruled out to return Thursday, and the Broncos are already without top wideout Courtland Sutton (knee - ACL) for the year. Fant secured five of six targets for 35 yards before exiting Thursday's game.
Sep 27, 2020
Top target in loss to Bucs
Fant hauled in five of a team-high 10 targets during Sunday's 28-10 loss to Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Though his two-game scoring streak was snapped by the Buccaneers, the second-year tight end tied a career-high with his 10 targets. This was certainly not an ideal matchup for Fant, as Tampa Bay entered Sunday holding the longest active streak of games without a TE touchdown allowed (dating back to Week 12 of last year). An upcoming Thursday night matchup against the Jets may help get Fant back in the end zone, as New York has already surrendered three receiving TDs to opposing TEs.
Sep 22, 2020
Registers another TD Week 2
Fant corralled four of five targets for 57 receiving yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
The second-year tight end was a handful for the Steelers defense, with three of his receptions going for 14-plus yards on the afternoon. The second of those plays was a 20-yard TD catch off of the arm of backup Jeff Driskel, and Fant immediately followed it up with a catch on the two-point conversion to get Denver within three points of Pittsburgh for the time being. After a disappointing conclusion to 2019 in which he only picked up four or more receptions once over his final six appearances, Fant is red-hot to kick off 2020. He now draws a matchup against a Buccaneers defense that hasn't allowed a tight end touchdown since Week 11 of last season (tied for the longest active streak in the NFL).
Sep 15, 2020
Breaks off long catch, TD Week 1
Fant corralled five of his six targets for 81 receiving yards and a touchdown during Monday's 16-14 loss to Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
The second-year tight end made his touches count against the Titans, collecting 15-plus receiving yards or a touchdown on four of his five receptions Monday night. Fant demonstrated big-play ability as a rookie in racking up 14.1 yards per catch, second to only New Orleans' Jared Cook (16.4) among NFL tight ends last year. The key to Fant unlocking a magical fantasy season, however, may come via the touchdown, as he only collected three last year on 66 targets. Week 1's outcome is encouraging in that regard, but now he prepares for a matchup against a Steelers defense that contained Evan Engram to just two catches for nine yards in its first appearance of 2020.
Aug 16, 2020
Comfortable in new offense
Fant has added muscle and is embracing offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur's new offense, which the sophomore tight end describes as more nuanced and able to exploit mismatches, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Much has been made of what new weaponry including Melvin Gordon, Jerry Jeudy, and KJ Hamler can do for the Broncos' offense and Drew Lock's first full season. But, with a year of development, Fant should have every opportunity to be the second major threat in the passing game behind Courtland Sutton. Fant finished second on the team in receiving yards (562), targets (66), and touchdowns (three) as a rookie. He faded down the stretch, however, and -- despite a monster 113-yard performance against Houston in Week 14 -- Fant saw his targets per game drop sharply once Lock entered the fold in Week 13, 4.7 to 2.8. Shurmur has experience with athletic tight ends from his time with Evan Engram in New York and, with improved chemistry with Lock, there is reason to be optimistic about Fant's sophomore campaign.
Dec 22, 2019
Ready to go Week 16
Fant (shoulder) is active for Sunday's Week 16 tilt against the Lions.
ANALYSIS
The rookie tight end had managed to log limited practices throughout the week, and he'll now enjoy active status for a favorable matchup versus the Lions. Fant has worked well with rookie quarterback Drew Lock during the latter's first two starts, bringing in six of seven targets for 169 yards and a touchdown over that span.
Dec 20, 2019
Week 16 status in question
Fant (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Lions, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant missed some time during the Broncos' Week 15 loss at Kansas City with a right shoulder injury. Afterward, X-rays were returned negative, and coach Vic Fangio told Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic that Fant "should be fine." Fant maintained limited practices throughout the week, but with a 'questionable' tag for Sunday, his status for Week 16 won't be confirmed until 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff.
Dec 19, 2019
Maintains limited activity
Fant (shoulder) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Fant's reps were capped for a second day in a row, the Broncos are optimistic he'll be ready to play when Sunday's game against the Lions rolls around. Ideally, Fant would eliminate ambiguity about his status by practicing fully Friday, a development that would likely allow him to enter the weekend without an injury designation. Fant ranks second among all qualified tight ends this season with 14.8 yards per reception, but his relatively low volume -- he's only exceeded five targets twice in 14 games -- makes him a rather boom-or-bust fantasy option.
Dec 18, 2019
Dealing with shoulder issue
Fant (shoulder) was limited at practice Wednesday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic previously reported that coach Vic Fangio suggested that Fant's shoulder "will be fine," but the fact that the tight end -- who was forced out of this past Sunday's game against the Chiefs for a spell -- was limited Wednesday, suggests that his status is worth monitoring in advance of this weekend's contest against the Lions.
Dec 15, 2019
Returns to action
Fant, who was forced out of Sunday's game against the Chiefs with a shoulder injury, was later able to return to the contest.
ANALYSIS
Great news for the Broncos, with the young tight end coming off a strong effort in Week 14 and in line to be a key cog in the team's passing game down the stretch, health permitting.
Dec 15, 2019
Exits game with shoulder injury
Fant was forced out of Sunday's game against the Chiefs with a shoulder injury, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant approached Week 15 action nursing foot and hip issues and now a shoulder injury can be added to his list of aches and pains. Prior to his exit from Sunday's game, the tight end caught his only target for 43 yards.
Dec 9, 2019
Injury viewed as minor
The foot injury Fant sustained in Sunday's 38-24 win over the Texans is considered minor and isn't expected to cost him any additional game action, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie tight end cleared the century mark in yardage for the second time this season in Sunday's victory, finishing with four grabs for 113 yards and a touchdown on four targets. His foot was stepped on during the contest and resulted in him getting carted off the field, but initial X-rays returned negative. No reports have surfaced suggesting Fant will require an MRI as a result of the injury, so he tentatively looks in line to maintain his usual starting role Week 15 in Kansas City. Another update on Fant's status should come when the Broncos release their first injury report of the week Wednesday.
Dec 8, 2019
Exits game with foot injury
Fant left Sunday's game against the Texans after suffering a foot injury, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to being carted off the field Sunday, Fant made his mark in the Broncos' strong effort against Houston, hauling in all four of his targets for 113 yards and a TD.
Oct 25, 2019
Misses practice, but will play Sunday
Though Fant (foot) didn't practice Friday, he doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's game against the Colts, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stevens relays that the rookie tight end cut his foot after Thursday's practice when cutting the tape off his ankle, which led to Fant sitting out Friday's session. Fant downplayed the issue, noting that it's "1,000 percent" he'll play this weekend. "It's completely fine." Per Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic, the No. 20 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft logged three drops in Week 7's 30-6 loss to the Chiefs, en route to being held to one catch on five targets. That's an issue Fant hopes to bounce back from this weekend, but until he gets back on track after three straight quiet games, he'll remain a speculative fantasy lineup option.
Aug 28, 2019
Last man standing?
Fant (ankle) is part of an injury-riddled tight end group that just saw Jake Butt (knee) suffer another setback, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant had been dealing with his own injury -- a minor ankle sprain -- but returned to practice Monday. Jeff Heuerman (shoulder) then made his way back to the practice field Tuesday, after missing the first three games of the preseason. Both tight ends seem to be on track for Week 1 at Oakland, giving the Broncos some options for how to divide snaps. Troy Fumagalli also is in the mix for playing time, coming off a five-catch performance in the third week of the preseason.
Aug 26, 2019
Returns to practice
Fant (ankle) is participating in Monday's practice, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
It remains to be seen whether Fant is practicing in full or on a limited basis. In any case it's a step in the right direction for the rookie tight end, who's working to get healthy after suffering an injury during last Monday's preseason tilt against the 49ers. All signs point to Fant suiting up for the regular-season opener, though he could see a limited snap count depending on his recovery progress.
Aug 21, 2019
Expected back by Week 1
Fant (ankle) is expected to suit up for Denver's regular-season opener against the Raiders, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant is considered day-to-day with a minor ankle sprain suffered during Monday's exhibition tilt against the 49ers. It's positive news that the rookie tight end's injury isn't concerning, as he stands to make an impact as both a receiver and blocker in the Broncos' offense.
Aug 20, 2019
Diagnosed with sprained ankle
Fant was diagnosed with a minor ankle sprain and is considered day-to-day, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant suffered the injury in Monday's preseason game against the 49ers, but there doesn't appear to be much concern surrounding the sprain. With Fant being day-to-day, he shouldn't be at risk of missing the start of the regular season.
Aug 20, 2019
Foot injury not concerning
Fant's foot injury is not considered serious, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant exited Monday's preseason contest against the 49ers due to a foot injury and did not return to the game, but does not appear in danger of missing regular-season time. Still, any time spent sidelined would be a loss of valuable reps for the rookie first-round pick, who the Broncos hope can make an immediate impact in the receiving game. Fant will work to resume practicing as soon as possible.
Aug 19, 2019
Exits due to injury
Fant suffered a right foot injury during Monday's preseason contest against the 49ers and is questionable to return, Kyle Fredrickson of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Fant limped off the field and was examined by trainers. The severity of the rookie first-round pick's injury remains undisclosed, but it's a positive sign that he wasn't immediately ruled out to retake the field. When fully healthy, Fant projects to serve as Denver's top pass-catching tight end.
