Comes up short in Denver
Mahomes completed 29 of 45 passes for 276 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Sunday's 22-19 loss to the Broncos. he added three rushing yards on one carry.
ANALYSIS
Even with Patrick Surtain (pectoral) still sidelined, Mahomes had trouble breaking down the Denver secondary, with his lone TD pass coming in the fourth quarter on a play in which Travis Kelce did most of the work. The star QB did at least extend his streak of games with 250-plus passing yards to seven, a stretch in which he's posted a 15:5 TD:INT, 66.8 percent completion rate and 7.7 YPA. Mahomes will try to get back on track, and revive Kansas City's suddenly fading playoff hopes, at home in Week 12 against the Colts.

Loses showdown with Josh Allen
Mahomes completed 15 of 34 pass attempts for 250 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while adding five yards on his only carry in Sunday's 28-21 loss to Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes picked a poor time to have his worst passing performance of the season after being outshined by rival Josh Allen (123.2 QB rating) in a loss that reshaped the landscape atop the AFC. It was Mahomes' first contest in 2025 where he failed to register a touchdown, and also the first time he finished with a completion rate below 50 percent. Even with Sunday's dud, the 29-year-old heads into the upcoming bye week completing 65 percent of his passes for 2,349 passing yards and 21 total touchdowns through nine starts. Fantasy managers will have to search for a replacement signal-caller in Week 10 before Mahomes returns to action against Denver on Nov. 16.

Fills stat sheet in comfortable win
Mahomes completed 25 of 34 pass attempts for 299 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 30 rushing yards on four attempts in Monday's 28-7 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes got off to a rocky start when he was picked off on Kansas City's first two offensive drives in Monday's primetime matchup. The resilient superstar settled in after halftime, rattling off three touchdown passes on consecutive drives out of the break. It was Mahomes' first start committing multiple turnovers this season, but it also was his third-straight appearance recording three scores for fantasy managers. The 29-year-old is putting up elite numbers again in 2025 after taking a step back over the previous two years. Mahomes checks in with 2,099 passing yards and 21 total touchdowns through eight starts as the Chiefs prepare to face Josh Allen and the Bills on Sunday in a Week 9 showdown of elite quarterbacks.

Leads Chiefs to easy win
Mahomes completed 26 of 35 passes for 286 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 31-0 win over the Raiders. He added four rushes for 28 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes had a very efficient day and jumped on the Raiders early, leading touchdown drives in each of the Chiefs' four drives. He completed three passes of more than 20 yards, including a 44-yard connection with Travis Kelce on the team's first possession, and had passing scores from two, eight and three yards away. After throwing for only one touchdown in the first three games of the season, he has at least three passing scores in three of his last four contests. With Rashee Rice back in the mix and Xavier Worthy healthy, the Chiefs' offense should have the chance to take off in the second half of the campaign.
Oct 12, 2025
Hitting stride in SNF win
Mahomes completed 22 of 30 pass attempts for 257 yards and three touchdowns while taking 10 carries for 32 yards and a fourth score in Sunday's 30-17 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
It was a masterful performance from Mahomes on the national stage as he methodically dismantled Detroit's defense to the tune of a 132.2 passer rating. The 29-year-old posted his second four-touchdown game over his last three starts, quickly putting his slow start to the campaign in the rear-view mirror. His fourth rushing score this season also tied the regular-season high he set back in 2022 in 11 fewer games. A red-hot Mahomes will set his sights on a division foe when the Chiefs host the Raiders next Sunday.
Oct 6, 2025
Throws costly pick-six in loss
Mahomes completed 29 of 41 pass attempts for 318 yards, one touchdown and one interception while taking six carries for 60 yards and another score in Monday's 31-28 loss to the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
The highlight that will make the rounds for Mahomes following Monday's loss will unfortunately be the interception he threw at the Jaguars' one-yard line that LB Devin Lloyd returned 99 yards the other way for a touchdown. The Chiefs' signal-caller had a strong fantasy night aside from his blunder in the third quarter, eclipsing the 300-yard mark as a passer for the first time this season. Mahomes also finished as Kansas City's leading rusher while scoring his third touchdown on the ground in five starts, just one shy of his career-best mark of four set back in 2022. The 29-year-old will have to move past Monday's sloppy loss in order to prepare for another primetime showdown in Week 6 when the Chiefs host the Lions on Sunday Night Football.
Sep 28, 2025
Four touchdowns against Baltimore
Mahomes completed 25 of 37 passes for 270 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 37-20 win over Baltimore. He added four rushes for five yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes turned in a vintage effort, perhaps not coincidentally as the return of Xavier Worthy reinforced his wide receiver corps. Mahomes threw four touchdowns in a regular-season game for the first time since Week 10 of the 2023 season, delivering scores from four, eight, 11 and 15 yards away. He primarily attempted passes in the short areas of the field but still recorded six completions of at least 15 yards. This was Mahomes' first game with multiple touchdowns this season and also accounted for his highest yardage total. He could be in for much improved results as the campaign progresses -- particularly once Rashee Rice (suspension) is eligible to return in Week 7.
Sep 21, 2025
Leads KC to first victory
Mahomes completed 22 of 37 pass attempts for 224 yards and a touchdown while rushing five times for two yards in Sunday's 22-9 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
It wasn't Mahomes' prettiest game, but he managed to will Kansas City to its first win of the 2025 season. The star quarterback actually put the ball on the ground twice, but fantasy managers breathed collective sighs of relief when both fumbles were recovered by the Chiefs. Mahomes seemed more willing to take deep shots in this contest, dialing up Tyquan Thornton for a long score and drawing a massive pass interference penalty on a deep shot to Hollywood Brown that led to a quick field goal before halftime. Mahomes has yet to eclipse the 300-yard mark in passing through three starts, but he may be asked to air it out more against Lamar Jackson and the high-powered Ravens' offense next Sunday.
Sep 14, 2025
Another loss with two touchdowns
Mahomes completed 16 of 29 pass attempts for 187 yards, one touchdown and one interception while taking seven carries for 66 yards and another score in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes and the Chiefs dropped to 0-2 on the year after suffering a loss at the hands of the team that embarrassed them in Super Bowl LIX last season. The final score was much closer this time around, but Philadelphia's defense held the superstar QB in check statistically. Mahomes continues to spread the ball around with top wideouts Rashee Rice (suspension) and Xavier Worthy (shoulder) out of action, dialing up nine different targets Sunday after completing passes to seven different receivers in last week's loss. Mahomes is going to continue to have to do the heavy lifting for Kansas City's offense as we look ahead to a Week 3 matchup against the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football.
Sep 5, 2025
Solid all-around numbers in loss
Mahomes completed 24 of 39 passes for 258 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and added six rushes for 57 yards and another score in the Chiefs' 27-21 loss to the Chargers on Friday night. He also recovered a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes quickly lost his most explosive playmaker when Xavier Worthy went down with a shoulder injury just four plays into the game. The two-time MVP battled throughout the rest of the contest while repeatedly leading the Chiefs from behind, and he offered some hope with an 11-yard touchdown run and 37-yard scoring strike to Travis Kelce in the third and fourth quarter, respectively. In the absence of Worthy, Mahomes recorded completions to seven different targets, focusing the bulk of his attention on Hollywood Brown (10-99-0) and JuJu Smith-Schuster (5-55-0), who were on the receiving end of 21 of his pass attempts. Following this season-opening stumble, Mahomes and the Chiefs will have to quickly turn their focus to a Super Bowl LIX rematch with the Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium in a Week 2 matchup on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Looks sharp in dress rehearsal
Mahomes completed eight of 13 pass attempts for 143 yards and a touchdown while adding 18 rushing yards on one attempt in Friday's 29-27 preseason loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes ramped up his preseason workload after logging just three snaps on offense over the Chiefs' previous two exhibition games. The superstar QB looked to be in mid-season form while orchestrating two lengthy scoring drives (15 plays) in one quarter of action. Mahomes threw for a career-low 3,928 yards while tying his previous worst of 26 touchdowns across 16 contests in 2024. The 29-year-old will be poised to improve on those totals this upcoming year with fellow All-Pro Travis Kelce and an improving group of young talent around him.
Aug 18, 2025
Expected to start preseason finale
Head coach Andy Reid relayed Monday that Mahomes and other starters are expected to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Bears, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
In a departure from Reid's usual philosophy of resting starters in preseason finales, the first-team offense is expected to see the field Friday, though Mahomes probably won't play more than a few series in this dress rehearsal. Mahomes played only three snaps in Kansas City's first preseason game and sat out the second entirely. The star quarterback's set to begin regular-season play Sept. 5 against the Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Aug 13, 2025
Not likely to play Friday
Coach Andy Reid noted Wednesday that there's "a good chance" Mahomes won't play in Friday's preseason game against the Seahawks, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Apart from Mahomes, the Chiefs may sit some other starters Friday, with Reid suggesting that he wants the team's younger players to get as many reps as possible. Mahomes started the team's preseason opener this past Saturday against the Cardinals, but logged just three snaps before giving way to fellow QBs Gardner Minshew, Bailey Zappe and Chris Oladokun.
Aug 9, 2025
Maximizes one completion Saturday
Mahomes completed his only pass attempt for a one-yard touchdown during the Chiefs' 20-17 preseason loss to the Cardinals on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
The Chiefs' offense was set up in prime field position after the Cardinals lost a fumble on the opening kickoff, and after an incompletion on his first pass was wiped out by a defensive pass interference penalty against Will Johnson, Mahomes connected with Jason Brownlee for a one-yard touchdown pass on the next play. The two-time MVP was done for the night at that point, but he's almost certainly due for a longer stint in Kansas City's second preseason game Friday night on the road against the Seahawks.
Aug 7, 2025
Set to play a quarter Saturday
Coach Andy Reid revealed Thursday that Mahomes will play the first quarter of Saturday night's preseason opener against the Cardinals, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site, once Mahomes and the team's healthy first-teamers play a quarter, QBs Gardner Minshew, Bailey Zappe and Chris Oladokun will each subsequently log a quarter of action with their respective units. While getting Mahomes some in-game reps in the preseason is nothing unusual for the Chiefs, we'd expect to see a game script Saturday designed to keep the star QB out of harms way as much as possible.
Mar 12, 2025
Frees up cap space
Mahomes agreed to terms Wednesday on a restructure of his contract with the Chiefs, Adam Teicher of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes and star defensive tackle Chris Jones both agreed to restructure their contracts Wednesday, freeing up a total of $49.4 million in cap space to help Kansas City maneuver in free agency. The team has already committed to a handful of key moves, including re-signing wideout Hollywood Brown to a one-year deal, placing the franchise tag on right guard Trey Smith and retaining linebacker Nick Bolton via a three-year contract. Mahomes remains signed through the 2031 season, and he figures to enter the 2025 season with a reloaded supporting cast, as the Chiefs work to bounce back from a disappointing 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
Feb 9, 2025
Throws two picks in Super Bowl loss
Mahomes completed 21 of 32 pass attempts for 257 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions while taking four rushing attempts for 25 yards and a lost fumble in Sunday's 40-22 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was stifled for nearly three quarters in Super Bowl LIX before completing the first of three garbage-time touchdowns with 34 seconds remaining in the third quarter of Sunday's one-sided affair. The 28-year-old superstar saw his hopes of a potential third consecutive Super Bowl title erode away with each ensuing unsuccessful offensive drive against a ferocious unit led by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Mahomes saw a decline in total production in 2024 despite earning the top seed in the AFC, but he maintained a respectable 2.4 TD:INT in 16 starts in the regular season. The Chiefs will look to regroup following a disappointing showing on the national stage and bring in more talent to surround Mahomes for the upcoming 2025 campaign.
Jan 26, 2025
Carries team to Super Bowl LIX
Mahomes completed 18 of 26 pass attempts for 245 yards and a touchdown while taking 11 carries for 43 yards and a pair of scores with one lost fumble in Sunday's 32-29 AFC Championship Game victory over Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes overcame a fumble in the first quarter before accounting for the Chiefs' next three touchdowns, including an impressive power-back like run for one of his two rushing scores Sunday. The superstar quarterback put his team on his back in order to give Kansas City its fifth Super Bowl appearance since the 2020 campaign. Mahomes, Chris Jones and Travis Kelce headline a star-studded lineup that will travel to New Orleans to face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9.
Jan 18, 2025
Athletic TD pass seals victory
Mahomes completed 16 of 25 pass attempts for 177 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 14 yards on seven attempts in Saturday's 23-14 playoff win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes' stats didn't pop in Saturday's box score, but he made plays when necessary against a stout defense in order to lift the Chiefs on to the AFC Championship Game. The superstar's lone touchdown pass was a highlight reel play in which he delivered a strike to Travis Kelce as a Houston defender was dragging the quarterback to the ground. Mahomes' minor ankle injury that he was nursing at the end of the regular season appears to be fully in the rear-view mirror. The Chiefs will now await the conclusion of Sunday's divisional round matchup between the Bills and Ravens in order to see which team will visit Kansas City next Sunday.
Jan 14, 2025
Returns to practice in full
Mahomes (ankle) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was inactive for the Chiefs' Week 18 loss to the Broncos, but he likely would have played in the game had Kansas City not already secured the AFC's No. 1 seed heading into the regular-season finale. The star quarterback instead benefited from more time to recover from the right high-ankle sprain that he sustained in a Dec. 15 win over the Browns and then played through in Weeks 16 and 17. With a full practice to kick off prep for the divisional-round matchup with the Texans on Saturday, Mahomes is good to go as the Chiefs begin their quest for a third straight Super Bowl title.
Jan 5, 2025
Inactive for Week 18
Mahomes (ankle) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes had been listed as doubtful heading into the weekend due to the mild right high-ankle sprain he sustained in a Dec. 15 win over the Browns, but he played through the injury at a high level in the Chiefs' last two contests, completing 57 of 79 pass attempts for 580 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions while adding 45 yards and another score on the ground between wins over the Texans and Steelers. With the Chiefs entering Week 18 having secured the AFC's No. 1 seed, Mahomes will get some rest in the regular-season finale along with several other key veterans. Carson Wentz will direct the offense in Denver, but there's no doubt that Mahomes will be back in the lineup when Kansas City kicks off its postseason in the divisional round.
Jan 3, 2025
Officially doubtful for Week 18
Mahomes (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's contest at Denver.
ANALYSIS
Speaking to the media Friday, coach Andy Reid effectively ruled out Mahomes for Week 18 action, per Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com. Having said that, the Chiefs may not make it official until about 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff. In any case, Carson Wentz is set to lead Kansas City's offense this weekend, but with RB Isiah Pacheco (ribs) also sidelined and TE Travis Kelce and RB Kareem Hunt listed as doubtful (meaning they'll likely be healthy scratches), Wentz will be working without a few key skill-position players. As for Mahomes, he'll turn his focus to the divisional round on either Jan. 18 or 19.
Jan 3, 2025
Out for Week 18
Coach Andy Reid said Friday that Mahomes (ankle) won't play Sunday at Denver, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reid relayed Wednesday that Mahomes wouldn't start the Chiefs' regular-season finale, instead yielding starting QB duties to Carson Wentz in Week 18 with the No. 1 seed in the AFC locked up, per Matt McMullen of the team's official site. Mahomes also continues to deal with the residual effects of the mild high-ankle sprain that he suffered Week 15 in Cleveland, so he'll get two weeks to rest and rehab before Kansas City next takes the field in the divisional round on either Jan. 18 or 19.
Jan 1, 2025
Limited practice Wednesday
Mahomes (ankle) was limited at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes has been managing an ankle issue of late, so his listed limitations Wednesday aren't especially concerning, given that it has already been announced that fellow QB Carson Wentz will start Sunday's regular-season finale against the Broncos. The Chiefs have clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and plan to rest Mahomes in Week 18, with the team's upcoming playoff run in mind.
Jan 1, 2025
Not starting Sunday
Mahomes won't start Sunday's regular-season finale against the Broncos, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Andy Reid confirmed Wednesday that Carson Wentz will draw the start in place of Mahomes, noting per Nate Taylor of The Athletic that resting his star QB with the Chiefs having clinched the AFC's No. 1 seed "wasn't a hard decision. I've been through it before. I'm not too worried. It gives the other guys an opportunity to grow." With Kansas City having earned a first-round bye, Mahomes' next game action is slated to occur in the divisional round of the upcoming NFL playoffs.
Dec 29, 2024
Expected to rest in Week 18
The Chiefs are likely to rest Mahomes and other key starters dealing with minor injuries in their Week 18 game in Denver, Jay Glazer reported on "Fox NFL Sunday."
ANALYSIS
With its win over the Steelers on Christmas Day, the Chiefs clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs and thus have little at stake in the regular-season finale. While head coach Andy Reid likely won't disclose his plans for how the team will approach the Denver game until later in the week, Glazer specifically mentions that Mahomes and Chris Jones (calf) -- both of whom have appeared on injury reports in recent games -- will be rested, along with any other key player nursing an injury. Mahomes sustained a mild high-ankle sprain in the Chiefs' Week 15 win over the Browns, but he's managed to play through the injury at a high level over the last two games, completing 72.2 percent of his passes for 580 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions and adding 45 yards and a score on the ground. Carson Wentz will likely step in as the starter next weekend, which would give Mahomes three weeks of healing time before the Chiefs' postseason opener in the divisional round.
Dec 25, 2024
Clinches AFC No. 1 seed Wednesday
Mahomes completed 29 of 38 pass attempts for 320 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 12 yards with his only carry in Wednesday's 29-10 win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes went into a tough road environment on Christmas Day and gifted his fantasy managers with his highest point total in 2024. Wednesday's win also cemented the Chiefs' status as the No. 1 seed in the AFC, earning the team a first-round bye come playoff time. Mahomes' iffy ankle looked anything but against the Steelers, with the superstar QB moving well in the pocket in addition to ripping off a 12-yard scamper in the second half. With nothing left accomplish in the regular season, there is a chance Kansas City opts to rest its offensive leader against the Broncos in Week 18 in order to preserve a healthy Mahomes for the divisional round of the playoffs on either Jan. 18 or 19.
Dec 21, 2024
Rushing TD proves ankle is fine
Mahomes completed 28 of 41 passes for 260 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's 27-19 win over the Texans. He also rushed five times for 33 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes quickly demonstrated that the ankle sprain he suffered in the Week 15 win over the Browns isn't inhibiting his ability to run, as he scrambled for a 12-yard gain on Kansas City's eighth offensive play and added a 15-yard rushing touchdown three plays later. The star quarterback tacked on an eight-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Worthy in the third quarter as Kansas City improved to 14-1. The Chiefs need one win over their last two games or a Buffalo loss to clinch the No. 1 seed in the AFC and a first-round bye. Unless the Bills lose to the 3-11 Patriots on Sunday, Mahomes won't be rested against the Steelers on Christmas.
Dec 19, 2024
Set to start Saturday
Mahomes (ankle) doesn't carry an injury designation for Saturday's game against the Texans, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes, who was listed as a full practice participant Tuesday through Thursday, is thus cleared to start versus Houston. In terms of how the QB looked at practice this week, head coach Andy Reid noted that Mahomes "did look good out there. He moved around pretty good," while wideout DeAndre Hopkins said that Kansas City's QB looked "like he always does.'' With Mahomes' availability confirmed, the team also appears poised to welcome back speedy wideout Hollywood Brown (shoulder, no injury designation) who is on IR, but is expected to be activated by the Chiefs ahead of Week 16 action.
Dec 19, 2024
Likely to start Week 16
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Thursday that Mahomes (ankle) "will most likely" start Saturday's game against the Texans, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes sustained a high-ankle sprain during Sunday's win over the Browns, but the issue is clearly less severe than the injury he suffered two years ago during the divisional round of the AFC playoffs. The star quarterback managed to practice in full Wednesday, potentially putting him on track to head into Week 16 action without an injury designation at all. Meanwhile, Reid also offered optimism that wide receiver Hollywood Brown (shoulder) will be activated from IR and make his season debut versus Houston on Saturday, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
Dec 18, 2024
Listed as full participant again
The Chiefs listed Mahomes (ankle) as a full practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
He got the same listing Tuesday after a walk-through practice, telling reporters beforehand that his current high-ankle sprain is less of an issue than the one he played through during the playoffs two years ago. Mahomes is on track to play against the Texans this Saturday, albeit with a slightly lesser rushing projection than usual in light of the mild sprain he suffered during the fourth quarter of a 21-7 win over the Browns on Sunday.
Dec 17, 2024
Opens week with full practice
Mahomes (ankle) was listed as a full participant in Tuesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
The Chiefs didn't hold a rigorous practice session to kick off Week 16 prep just two days after Sunday's 21-7 win over the Browns, but Mahomes' full listing nonetheless suggests that he's on track to play Saturday against the Texans. Even if Kansas City continues to list Mahomes as a full participant Wednesday and Thursday, fantasy managers planning on using him in Week 16 will still want to keep a close eye on reports pertaining to the quarterback's health leading up to Saturday, as he was diagnosed with a mild right high-ankle sprain following his early exit from Sunday's win in Cleveland. For his part, Mahomes told Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star prior to Tuesday's session that he has responded "better quicker" to his latest injury than the high-ankle sprain he sustained in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs two years ago. His ability to practice in any fashion so soon after spraining the ankle would seem to support that notion.
Dec 17, 2024
Will try to practice Tuesday
Head coach Andy Reid said that Mahomes (ankle) will attempt to practice Tuesday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports. "We'll see how Pat does. He's going to go through some stuff and we'll see how it works out for him," Reid said.
ANALYSIS
While the fact that Reid hasn't entirely ruled Mahomes out from practicing to kick off Week 16 prep offers encouragement, the Chiefs aren't likely to hold anything more than a light walk-through session just two days after Sunday's 21-7 win over the Browns. As such, even if Mahomes is listed as a limited participant for Tuesday's practice, it shouldn't be interpreted as a clear sign that he'll be on track to play Saturday against the Texans while he manages a right high-ankle sprain that he sustained late in the Week 15 win. Comments from both Reid and Mahomes over the next few days rather than his listing on practice reports will likely provide greater insight into the two-time NFL MVP's true odds of playing this weekend against Houston, and backup Carson Wentz is expected to get in plenty of reps with the first-team offense to keep himself prepared in the event Mahomes is forced to miss his first game of the season.
Dec 16, 2024
Dealing with mild high-ankle sprain
Mahomes (ankle) has been diagnosed Monday with a 'mild' high-ankle sprain and is considered week-to-week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was forced out of Sunday's 21-7 win over the Browns in the fourth quarter, leaving backup Carson Wentz to close out the contest. Now, with the Chiefs facing a short turnaround for Week 16's matchup against the Texans on Saturday, then a road matchup against Pittsburgh on Christmas coming Week 17, Mahomes' availability for the remainder of the regular season is murky at best. Currently, at 13-1, Kansas City has a two-game lead on Buffalo, at 11-3, for the top seed in the AFC, and the Chiefs have already clinched a playoff spot. The team figures to take a cautious approach to Mahomes' health in order to prioritize his effectiveness for the postseason, making it appear especially likely that Wentz starts Saturday versus Houston. For Week 17 and Week 18, though, playoff standing could potentially factor into decisions made on Mahomes' availability.
Dec 16, 2024
Non-committal on Week 15 status
Mahomes (ankle) admitted after Sunday's 21-7 win over the Browns that he's uncertain if he'll be able to play in the Chiefs' Week 16 game Saturday versus the Texans, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports. "It's hard to say right now,'' Mahomes said, when asked about his status for Week 16. "You still [have the] adrenaline rolling and usually it's kind of the day after when you kind of get a good sense of it...You just do what you have to do to get back, and I think that's the most important thing. And now we jus
ANALYSIS
Mahomes left Sunday's game midway through the fourth quarter after taking a hit to his right ankle while throwing an incomplete fourth-down pass. With the Chiefs holding a 14-point lead by the time they regained possession with 5:23 left in the quarter, head coach Andy Reid opted to go with Carson Wentz at quarterback for the rest of the game. Reid said after the contest that Mahomes' ankle wasn't broken, but the Chiefs fear that the signal-caller may have suffered a high-ankle sprain, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Mahomes is scheduled undergo further testing Monday, but if the high-ankle sprain is confirmed, he'll likely be viewed as week-to-week and would likely face an uphill battle to get cleared for the matchup with the Texans. With three games left in the regular season, the 13-1 Chiefs currently sit two games ahead of the 11-3 Bills for the top seed in the AFC, a reality that could prompt Kansas City to take a more cautious approach with Mahomes over the next few weeks to ensure he's in opt
Dec 15, 2024
Dealing with sore ankle
Coach Andy Reid said after Sunday's 21-7 win at Cleveland that Mahomes' left ankle isn't broken but "is sore," Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was on the receiving end of a high-low hit in the fourth quarter that resulted in him needing some assistance to get to the sideline and with a very visible limp. He eventually was deemed questionable to return due to an ankle injury, but backup Carson Wentz handled QB duties the rest of the contest while Mahomes was seen getting his left ankle taped on the bench. In addition to Reid's initial comment on Mahomes, the coach told Nate Taylor of The Athletic, "It'll literally be day by day. He probably could've gone back in. He wanted to go back in. There was no need for that." When Mahomes injured his left ankle in the first half of a Week 9 victory against the Buccaneers, he also missed some time but was able to gut through it and finish the game. Considering the Chiefs were up by Sunday's final margin at the time of Mahomes' exit, being cautious with their franchise signal-caller seemingly was the prudent approach, but his status now will need to be monitored in advance of Saturday's matchup with the

Injures ankle Sunday
Mahomes was forced out of Sunday's game against the Browns with an ankle injury.
ANALYSIS
Before exiting the contest, Mahomes completed 19 of 38 pass attempts for 159 yards and two TDs, while carrying twice for 14 yards. Carson Wentz has taken over at QB for the Chiefs, with Mahomes' status now worth tracking ahead of this coming Saturday's game against the Texans.
Dec 8, 2024
Does just enough for 12th win
Mahomes completed 24 of 37 passes for 210 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 19-17 win over the Chargers. He added four rushing attempts for 17 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes put the Chiefs up 13-0 with a nine-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins in the final minute of the first half, but the Chargers scored 14 unanswered points in the third quarter. The two teams then exchanged go-ahead field goals in the fourth quarter before Mahomes converted a pair of third downs with passes of 14 yards to Xavier Worthy and nine yards to Travis Kelce to set up Matthew Wright's game-winning 31-yard field goal on the game's final play. It hasn't always been pretty offensively as Kansas City navigates subpar offensive line play with a depleted receiving corps, but Mahomes has led the Chiefs to a 12-1 record and an AFC West Division title heading into a Week 15 trip to Cleveland.

Compusure on display Friday
Mahomes completed 26 of 46 pass attempts for 306 yards and a touchdown while rushing twice for four yards in Friday's 19-17 win over the Raiders.

Mahomes battled from start to finish against a strong defensive effort on the road by Las Vegas on Black Friday. The star quarterback eclipsed 300 passing yards for the second time this season without turning the ball over. The single touchdown leaves a bit to be desired by fantasy managers, which could be said for his entire 2024 campaign through 12 games (2,979 yards, 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions). Mahomes will need to continue carrying Kansas City's offense next Sunday in a pivotal AFC West matchup against the Chargers.
Nov 24, 2024
Second-half surge continues
Mahomes completed 27 of 37 passes for 269 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Panthers. He added five rushes for 60 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes had an exceptional first half, during which he completed 19 of 24 passes for two touchdowns -- both of which went to Noah Gray -- and 207 yards. The Chiefs only ran 28 plays in the second half, which slowed his line a bit. However, Mahomes still delivered when needed by scrambling for a 33-yard gain with only 38 seconds remaining to set up the game-winning field goal. He now has three touchdowns in three of his last four games while reaching 300 total yards on two occasions in that span.
Nov 17, 2024
Throws three scores in first loss
Mahomes completed 23 of 33 pass attempts for 196 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions without recording a carry in Sunday's 30-21 loss to Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes threw a pair of interceptions that proved to be costly in Sunday's marquee matchup between superstar quarterbacks. While Josh Allen got the win for his club, Mahomes provided fantasy managers with his second game with three touchdown passes over the Chiefs' last three contests. In addition to this game representing Kansas City's first loss of the season, it was also Mahomes' first appearance in 2024 without recording a rushing attempt. No longer undefeated, Mahomes and the Chiefs should be locked in for a soft matchup against Carolina next Sunday.
Nov 10, 2024
Impressive passing yardage in win
Mahomes completed 28 of 42 passes for 266 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions and added three carries for 19 yards in the Chiefs' 16-14 win over the Broncos on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes took four sacks from the aggressive Broncos defense, but he was able to do just enough to give his team a chance to preserve its undefeated mark. The two-time MVP focused a significant deal of attention on Kareem Hunt and Travis Kelce -- the latter who was on the receiving end of Mahomes' only touchdown -- as Denver forced plenty of short and intermediate throws, but he still found his way to his third straight 260-plus-yard total. Mahomes and the Chiefs' quest to get to 10-0 intersects with the Bills in a Week 11 road showdown next Sunday.

Set for full practice Wednesday
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that Mahomes (ankle) will be a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes had a bit of a scare in Monday's 30-24 overtime win over the Buccaneers, as he appeared to roll his left ankle during his second touchdown pass of the game early in the fourth quarter. Though he required assistance off the field, Mahomes was able to return for the Chiefs' next possession and didn't wind up missing any snaps on the night, despite having to play through some pain the rest of the way. With further evaluation after the game apparently turning up nothing concerning, Mahomes doesn't look as though he'll face any limitations heading into the Chiefs' Week 10 game against the Broncos on Sunday.
Nov 4, 2024
Survives injury scare for OT win
Mahomes (ankle) completed 34 of 44 pass attempts for 291 yards and three touchdowns while rushing twice for nine yards in Monday's 30-24 overtime win over Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes rolled his left ankle while completing a shovel pass for his second passing touchdown of the evening, promptly visiting the medical tent while his teammates celebrated the score. Luckily, the durable signal-caller showed his toughness yet again, returning to the game without missing a play in a successful effort to finish off the Buccaneers in overtime. With a short week ahead, fantasy managers should monitor Mahomes' practice participation ahead of a Week 10 matchup against the Broncos. That said, the star QB already gave a vote of confidence for his own status Sunday stating that he will "be ready to go" against Denver.
Oct 27, 2024
Throws two TDs to stay underfeated
Mahomes completed 27 of 38 pass attempts for 262 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while rushing six times for 17 yards in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes got back on track after failing to throw a touchdown in consecutive games. The star quarterback threw a pair of touchdowns for the first time since Week 3 against Atlanta, giving fantasy managers something to hang their hats on as we approach the middle of the fantasy season. Mahomes could be in store for another healthy stat line as the Chiefs prepare for a potential shootout against the Buccaneers next Monday.
Oct 20, 2024
Trucks defender for TD
Mahomes completed 16 of 27 pass attempts for 154 yards, no passing touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing five times for 39 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 28-18 win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes produced his worst passing performance through six games this season, but he salvaged his fantasy day by generating his best rushing line against San Francisco in a rematch of last year's Super Bowl. The deceptively fast quarterback performed a ball fake on a scramble that allowed him to split three defenders for 33 yards. Mahomes finished off that same drive by trucking the only defender that stood between him and the end zone for his first rushing touchdown of the season. The Chiefs remain undefeated heading into a soft road matchup against the Raiders next Sunday.
Oct 7, 2024
Standout numbers in win
Mahomes completed 28 of 39 passes for 331 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and rushed six times for 22 yards in the Chiefs' 26-13 win over the Saints on Monday night.
ANALYSIS
Despite being down yet another key skill-position player in Rashee Rice (IR-knee), Mahomes was in top form against a Saints defense that had made life mostly miserable for opposing quarterbacks heading into Monday night's contest. The multi-time MVP seamlessly adapted to his circumstances by primarily concentrating his attention on the ever-reliable Travis Kelce and complementary wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster, with whom he connected for a combined 16 completions and 200 yards on 18 total targets. Mahomes also made good use of other little-used pass catchers such as Mecole Hardman and Noah Gray, and the season-high yardage total he compiled was made all the more remarkable by the fact he connected with rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy, who entered the night as the de facto No. 1 receiver, on only three occasions for 25 yards. Mahomes and the Chiefs head into a Week 6 bye before a road showdown and Super Bowl rematch with the 49ers on Sunday, Oct. 20.
Sep 29, 2024
Losing playmakers
Mahomes completed 19 of 29 passes for 245 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 17-10 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes showed impressive efficiency by averaging 8.5 yards per attempt, though it didn't lead to a strong fantasy showing. The latter is understandable given that the Chiefs lost another key pass catcher after Rashee Rice (knee) went down, leaving Travis Kelce and rookie Xavier Worthy as Mahomes' top two targets. The highlight of his performance came late in the second quarter when he found Worthy for a 54-yard touchdown. With Rice and Hollywood Brown (shoulder) both sidelined for the long term, it may be difficult for Mahomes to turn in his typical fantasy performances on a regular basis.
Sep 22, 2024
Another modest passing total
Mahomes completed 26 of 39 passes for 217 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 22-17 win over the Falcons. He added six rushing attempts for 17 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was picked off in the end zone by familiar nemesis Justin Simmons in the first quarter, marking Simmons' sixth interception against Mahomes. The star quarterback bounced back with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Rashee Rice on the next drive and added another 13-yard touchdown pass to JuJu Smith-Schuster in the third quarter. Mahomes posted another underwhelming stat line after throwing for a meager 151 yards in the previous game, but he has led the Chiefs to a 3-0 record despite his disappointing start from a statistical standpoint. He'll bring a 5:4 TD:INT into a Week 4 road game against a Chargers team that could be without starting quarterback Justin Herbert (ankle).
Sep 15, 2024
Just 151 pass yards in Week 2 win
Mahomes completed 18 of 25 passes for 151 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 26-25 win over the Bengals. He added four rushing attempts for 29 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes threw a perfect pass down the sideline for a 44-yard Rashee Rice touchdown in the second quarter, and he added a one-yard touchdown pass to backup left tackle Wanya Morris as the Chiefs reached into their bag of tricks in the third. Despite doing just enough to get his team to 2-0 heading into Week 3 against the Falcons thanks to a game-winning 51-yard Harrison Butker field goal on the game's final play, Mahomes has some errors to clean up. Mahomes was picked off in the first quarter and again in the third, with the latter coming soon after a would-be interception was taken off the board by a penalty. Kansas City also caught a couple bad breaks before a defensive pass interference penalty set up the game-winning field goal, as Mahomes had fourth-quarter completions of 41 yards to Travis Kelce and 21 yards to Rice erased by penalties to suppress the star quarterback's stat line.
Sep 6, 2024
Strong showing in Week 1 win
Mahomes completed 20 of 28 passes for 291 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Chiefs' 27-20 win over the Ravens on Thursday night. He also rushed twice for three yards and was credited with a two-yard reception of his own deflected pass.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes put together a signature performance that saw him distribute the ball to seven different targets. The perennial Pro Bowler clicked most frequently with top wideout Rashee Rice, who brought in seven of Mahomes' completions for 103 yards. Mahomes' one scoring toss went to speedy first-round pick Xavier Worthy, who brought in a 35-yard dart early in the fourth quarter that gave Kansas City some valuable breathing room. Mahomes' impressive yardage total and efficiency notably came with Travis Kelce recording only three receptions and Marquise Brown missing the game with his shoulder injury, supporting the notion the multi-time MVP could be in store for another prolific season. Mahomes' and the Chiefs' next assignment is a marquee Week 2 home showdown against the Bengals on Sept. 15.
Aug 19, 2024
Unlikely to play Thursday
Coach Andy Reid said Monday that Mahomes and other starters are unlikely to play in Thursday's preseason game against Chicago, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes played the first two preseason games and completed 11 of 18 passes for 120 yards, with highlights including a 37-yard completion to rookie Xavier Worthy during Saturday's loss to the Lions. Marquise Brown's health is perhaps the biggest question for Kansas City's offense ahead of a Week 1 home game against the Ravens, after the wideout suffered a sternoclavicular injury August 10. A recovery timeline of 4-6 weeks was reported shortly thereafter, putting Brown in serious doubt for the Week 1 rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game.
Aug 17, 2024
Strong showing in preseason game
Mahomes completed 8 of 14 passes for 93 yards against Detroit on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes played the first two drives of the preseason game, with most of the Chiefs first-string offense playing with him. The absence of Marquise Brown (sternoclavicular) allowed Mahomes to work extensively with first-round pick rookie Xavier Worthy, who drew five of Mahomes' targets (though Worthy's 39-yard touchdown would later occur with Carson Wentz at quarterback). Mahomes even made waves by completing a behind-the-back screen pass to Travis Kelce for eight yards. Mahomes is likely the top player in the NFL and doesn't need new tricks to dominate, but apparently he's been working on some anyway.
Aug 15, 2024
Scheduled for more preseason work
Mahomes and other starters are scheduled to play the first half of Saturday's preseason game against Detroit, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per usual, the Chiefs are at the front of the pack when it comes to preseason playing time for starters. It's worked out more than alright for them in recent years, but fantasy managers that have already drafted Mahomes presumably aren't thrilled to see the multi-year trend continue. The expectation of considerable playing time makes KC's QB1 a viable choice for preseason DFS contests.
Aug 10, 2024
Plays one possession Saturday
Mahomes completed three of four passes for 27 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Chiefs' 26-13 preseason loss to the Jaguars on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes played on the Chiefs' opening possession, which lasted seven plays and culminated in a field goal. The multi-time MVP has a pair of completions totaling 20 yards to Marquise Brown (shoulder) and Isiah Pacheco on the first two plays and connected with Travis Kelce for seven yards on his third and final completion. Mahomes and his starting offense appear to already be in solid form, and it remains to be seen if they'll log at least a quarter in next Saturday afternoon's home exhibition against the Lions.
Aug 7, 2024
Set to play in preseason opener
Coach Andy Reid said Mahomes and other starters will play the first quarter of Saturday's preseason game against Jacksonville, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Reid has long given his starters more preseason reps than most other teams do, including superstars like Mahomes and TE Travis Kelce. It'll be the first chance in a game setting for Mahomes to connect with new Chiefs wide receivers Marquise Brown and Xavier Worthy.
Feb 11, 2024
Takes home Super Bowl MVP
Mahomes completed 34 of 46 passes for 333 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 25-22 win over the 49ers. He added nine rushes for 66 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes led the Chiefs to consecutive Super Bowl Championships while also taking home his third Super Bowl MVP award. He led two clutch drives to close the game, first leading an 11-play, 64-yard drive that ended in a field goal to tie the game at the conclusion of regulation. During that possession, he completed five of seven passes for 58 yards. His next time on the field came with the Chiefs down three in overtime, and Mahomes orchestrated another lengthy drive that ended with a three-yard touchdown pass to Mecole Hardman for a walk-off victory. The Kansas City defense was the key to the team's improbable postseason run, but Mahomes showed up in the biggest moments of the Super Bowl to lead an impressive comeback victory.
Jan 28, 2024
Cruises behind stout defense
Mahomes completed 30 of 39 pass attempts for 241 yards and a touchdown while rushing six times for 15 yards in Sunday's 17-10 win over the Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes got things cooking early with a 19-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce on the Chiefs' opening drive Sunday. It would be the only trip to the end zone for the superstar duo in a playoff matchup that was decided by Kansas City's defense. Mahomes did his part by completing 77 percent of his passes and going 8-for-18 on third-down attempts. The two-time Super Bowl champion has his sights set on a third Lombardi Trophy when the Chiefs take on the winner of Sunday's NFC Championship Game in Las Vegas on Sun. Feb. 11.
Jan 21, 2024
Efficient in win over Bills
Mahomes completed 17 of 23 passes for 215 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 27-24 win over the Bills. He added six rushes for 19 yards.
ANALYSIS
The Chiefs possessed the ball for only 22:57 and ran only 47 offensive plays, so Mahomes was reliant upon efficiency to produce a good stat line. While it was hardly his most memorable postseason performance, he did what was necessary by throwing a pair of touchdowns to Travis Kelce from 22 and three yards away. Mahomes also hit Marquez Valdes-Scantling for gains of 32 and 30 yards, helping him average an impressive 9.3 yards per attempt. He and the Chiefs will appear in their sixth consecutive AFC Championship Game on Sunday against the Ravens.
Jan 14, 2024
Earns win in frigid temperatures
Mahomes completed 23 of 41 passes for 262 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Saturday's 26-7 win over the Dolphins. He added two rushes for 41 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes had a mediocre stat line, which was held back by the Chiefs' struggles in the end zone. Of six trips inside the 20, Kansas City scored a touchdown only twice, with the first coming on an 11-yard completion to Rashee Rice. Mahomes was also only moderately efficient as a passer, averaging 6.4 yards per attempt. Nevertheless, he kept the offense moving throughout the game in difficult wintry conditions and completed six passes of at least 20 yards -- his highest mark since Week 7. The Chiefs will roll into the divisional round, though it is currently unclear who the team will face or where the game will be played.
Jan 7, 2024
Officially out for Week 18
Mahomes (ankle) has been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Chargers in a "coaching decision."
ANALYSIS
The Chiefs officially listed Mahomes as doubtful for the regular-season finale upon the release of Friday's injury report, which came after Andy Reid said earlier in the week that the star quarterback would be rested in Week 18. Though Mahomes was listed with an ankle injury, the Chiefs' latest update indicates that the two-time NFL MVP isn't dealing with a health concern. Kansas City is locked in as the No. 3 seed in the AFC playoffs, so it comes as little surprise that Mahomes won't suit up Sunday. Blaine Gabbert will make his first start of the season Week 18, while practice-squad call-up Chris Oladokun serves as his backup. Mahomes will return to action in the wild-card round of the playoffs against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
Jan 5, 2024
Listed as doubtful, not starting
Mahomes (ankle) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Chargers after practicing fully this week.
ANALYSIS
Per Alyssa Merritt of the Chiefs' official site, earlier this week the team relayed that Mahomes would be rested this weekend, given that Kansas City is locked in as the AFC's No. 3 playoff seed. In his place, Blaine Gabbert will draw the start versus Los Angeles, with Mahomes presumably destined to be among Kansas City's Week 18 inactives.
Jan 3, 2024
Won't play in Week 18
With the Chiefs locked into the No. 3 playoff seed in the AFC, Mahomes won't play Sunday against the Chargers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
As a result, Blaine Gabbert is slated to start Kansas City's regular season finale, with the team also likely to rest some other key players this weekend in addition to Mahomes. The star QB's next opportunity to see game action will thus occur in the Chiefs' playoff opener against an opponent to be determined.
Dec 31, 2023
Improvement against Bengals
Mahomes completed 21 of 29 passes for 245 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 25-17 win over the Bengals. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes didn't deliver a stellar stat line, but he kept the Chiefs' offense on schedule by averaging 8.4 yards per attempt and limiting mistakes. He ended an uncharacteristic stretch of four consecutive games with an interception, though he did lose a fumble that led to a Cincinnati touchdown early in the second quarter. Other than that error, he had a positive performance, as he was able to push the ball down the field by tallying four completions of at least 20 yards -- only the second time he's reached that mark in his last nine games. While the performance was improved, Mahomes still has only one touchdown in four of his last five contests.
Dec 25, 2023
Struggles in Christmas loss
Mahomes completed 27 of 44 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Monday's 20-14 loss to the Raiders. He also gained 53 rushing yards on 10 carries.
ANALYSIS
Kansas City was missing left tackle Donovan Smith (neck) once again, and the Las Vegas pass rush gave Mahomes fits. The quarterback wound up leading his team in rushing, and with his protection focused on containing Maxx Crosby, Malcolm Koonce sacked Mahomes three times. The need to get the ball out of his hands quickly also played directly into his second-quarter INT, which got returned for a pick-six by Jack Jones. Mahomes did find Justin Watson for a TD in the fourth as Kansas City tried to mount a comeback, but it was still another disappointing showing from the two-time MVP, who has thrown only one score in three of the last four games. With his team still needing a win to clinch its eighth straight AFC West title, Mahomes will look to rebound in Week 17 against the Bengals.
Dec 17, 2023
Tops 300 yards in Week 15 win
Mahomes completed 27 of 37 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in Sunday's 27-17 win over the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Kansas City was down 14-10 at halftime, but Mahomes shifted into high gear in the third quarter, leading his team on three scoring drives that included a six-yard TD pass to Clyde Edwards-Helaire. Neither pick can be blamed on Mahomes, either -- one was a result of a bobbled pass by Kadarius Toney, while the other saw rookie linebacker Marte Mapu rip the ball away from Noah Gray. It's only the fourth time this season Mahomes has thrown for more than 300 yards, and the first since Week 7. He'll look to produce big numbers again in Week 16 against a Raiders defense he racked up 298 yards and two TDs against in their first meeting this year.
Dec 10, 2023
Just one TD in Sunday's loss
Mahomes completed 25 of 43 passes for 271 yards and a touchdown with one interception in Sunday's 20-17 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
He also added eight rushing yards on his only carry. Mahomes did hit Rashee Rice for a four-yard score in the third quarter, but for the second straight game the QB was held to just one TD pass -- the first time since Weeks 12-13 of last season that Mahomes has gone consecutive contests without throwing multiple touchdowns. His longest such streak is three games, set back in 2019, and he'll look to avoid matching it in Week 15 against the Patriots.
Dec 4, 2023
Struggles at Lambeau
Mahomes completed 21 of 33 passes for 210 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 27-19 loss to the Packers. He added four rushes for 26 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes had only 83 yards in the first half as the Chiefs were limited to only 23 offensive plays. His volume picked up across the final two quarters as Kansas City tried to catch up on the scoreboard, though the end result was uninspiring. Mahomes has now averaged under seven yards per attempt in four of his last five games, and he's failed to record multiple touchdowns in two of those five contests. He also threw a key interception late in the fourth quarter, uncharacteristically putting the team in a bad position in their comeback efforts. Mahomes will look to bounce back in a pivotal Week 14 matchup against Buffalo.
Nov 26, 2023
Smooth sailing Sunday
Mahomes completed 27 of 34 pass attempts for 298 yards and a pair of touchdowns (no turnovers) in Sunday's 31-17 win over the Raiders. He added nine rushing yards on five attempts.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes actually got off to a slow start despite finishing with a nearly-flawless passing line. Kansas City ran just three plays on offense in the first quarter and did not convert a first down until its third possession Sunday. That's around when Mahomes woke up and went on a furious tear that produced three consecutive touchdown drives in just under 12 minutes of game time. The 28-year-old has now thrown multiple touchdowns in three straight games after hitting a bit of a rough patch mid season. It was also the star QB's first game without a turnover since Week 3 against Chicago. Mahomes will face a stiffer test on the road against the Packers next Sunday, but the Chiefs' offense appears to be back on track as we inch closer to the playoffs.
Nov 20, 2023
Underwhelming night in loss
Mahomes completed 24 of 43 passes for 177 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Chiefs' 21-17 loss to the Eagles on Monday night. He also rushed six times for 38 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes' final line would have been appreciably different had Marquez Valdes-Scantling not failed to bring in a perfectly thrown bomb on a post pattern with 1:50 remaining which would have likely sealed a victory for Kansas City. As it was, Mahomes was surprisingly limited throughout the night by an Eagles defense that had trouble defending the pass most of the season, averaging a season-low 4.1 yards per attempt on his way to a season-worst yardage total. Mahomes did connect with Justin Watson and Travis Kelce for three- and four-yard scoring tosses in the first half, giving the talented signal-caller multiple his seventh multi-touchdown tally of the campaign. Mahomes will now turn his sights to a Week 12 divisional road battle against a Raiders team playing much more inspired football under interim head coach Antonio Pierce.
Nov 5, 2023
Tosses two TDs in Frankfurt
Mahomes completed 20 of 30 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 21-14 win over the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
He added 24 rushing yards on six carries. Mahomes threw for under 200 yards in a regular-season game for the first time since Week 13 of the 2021 campaign, but he was effective when he needed to be and found Rashee Rice and Jerick McKinnon for first-half TDs. After a couple disappointing performances from a fantasy perspective, Mahomes and the Kansas City offense will get a Week 10 bye to take a look under the hood and make some tweaks.
Oct 29, 2023
Three TOs lead to upset loss
Mahomes completed 24 of 38 pass attempts for 241 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing three times for 20 yards and losing a fumble in Sunday's 24-9 loss to Denver.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes turned in one of the worst single-game performances of his illustrious career after being responsible for three of his team's five turnovers in Sunday's upset loss. It was also the first time this season that the superstar quarterback was held without a touchdown. The silver lining for fantasy managers is that the last time Mahomes threw multiple interceptions in a game this season (Week 4 vs. NYJ), he bounced back by completing 76 percent of his passes the following week against Minnesota. Mahomes will attempt to repeat that sequence as Kansas City prepares to head overseas to face the Dolphins in London next Sunday.
Oct 29, 2023
Active in Week 8, as expected
Mahomes (illness) is active for Sunday's Week 8 clash against the Broncos, as expected.
ANALYSIS
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported earlier Sunday that the star signal-caller had fallen ill Saturday and had even been placed on an IV during the day, adding Mahomes had woken up feeling much better Sunday and was still fully expected to play. Mahomes' active status is now official, meaning fantasy managers should proceed with including him in lineups without concern. However, it's worth noting the Chiefs-Broncos game will be played in significant inclement weather, including periods of heavy snow. Consequently, even if Mahomes has improved as much as reported, the field conditions may certainly not be conducive to one of his more fantasy-friendly performances. If Mahomes were to have an in-game setback Sunday, veteran Blaine Gabbert would be set to handle Kansas City's offense.
Oct 29, 2023
Better Sunday than Saturday
Mahomes was nauseous and dehydrated Saturday, and was on an IV Saturday night, but woke up Sunday feeling better, Jay Glazer reported on Fox NFL Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes is still fully expected to start Sunday against the Broncos, while playing in inclement weather in Denver. It's noteworthy that teams seem to be doing a better job of reporting illnesses this weekend after what happened with Bijan Robinson last weekend.
Oct 29, 2023
Falls ill, but set to play Sunday
Mahomes is dealing with an illness but won't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Mahomes is battling the flu. Given that Mahomes didn't appear on the Chiefs' Week 8 injury report, he most likely picked up the illness at some point after Friday's practice, though Rapoport notes that the signal-caller is feeling better Sunday than he did Saturday. The Chiefs didn't sign another quarterback to the 53-man roster or elevate one from the practice squad, so Mahomes remains on track to start the Week 8 contest while Blaine Gabbert fills his usual backup role. Fantasy managers in season-long leagues can still probably feel comfortable including Mahomes in lineups even if he's less than 100 percent healthy, but the two-time league MVP may be less appealing of an option in DFS contests.
Oct 22, 2023
Standout numbers in division win
Mahomes completed 32 of 42 passes for 424 yards with four touchdowns and one interception while adding 29 yards on four rushes in the Chiefs' 31-17 win over the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was particularly lethal in the first half, when he led the Chiefs to 24 points while recording scoring tosses to Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce of 46, six and one yards, respectively. Mahomes' and Kelce's connection was the story of the game, as the prolific signal-caller hit his All-Pro tight end on 12 occasions for 179 yards. Mahomes' yardage total was a season high, and he now has five multi-touchdown efforts in his first seven games heading into a Week 8 road trip to Denver.
Oct 12, 2023
Sharp in Week 6 win
Mahomes completed 30 of 40 passes for 306 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Chiefs' 19-8 win over the Broncos on Thursday night. He also rushed six times for 31 yards.
ANALYSIS
The Chiefs' final point total was notably below expectations against a Broncos defense that had essentially been the league's worst through five weeks, but Mahomes still largely kept fantasy managers happy with his second 300-yard game of the season. Mahomes also extended his season-opening streak of at least one touchdown pass to six games, hitting Kadarius Toney from three yards out late in the second quarter. Mahomes connected with eight different pass catchers overall, with Travis Kelce (ankle) leading the way with a 9-124 line but rookie Rashee Rice (4-72 on four targets) and Mahomes also encouragingly continuing to display solid chemistry. Mahomes heads into a Week 7 divisional battle against the Chargers on Sunday, Oct. 22 with an 11:5 TD:INT and 1,593 passing yards over six games.
Oct 8, 2023
Two TDs in win over Vikings
Mahomes completed 31 of 41 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 27-20 win over Minnesota.
ANALYSIS
The Kansas City passing game had trouble getting going in the first half, but Mahomes cranked it up in the third quarter and hit Rashee Rice and Travis Kelce (ankle) for scores to break open a 13-13 tie. The perennial MVP candidate has tossed multiple touchdowns in four of five games to begin the season, leading to a 10:4 TD:INT, and Mahomes could be poised for a huge performance in Week 6 against a Broncos secondary that's already coughed up two four-TD performances to quarterbacks this season.
Oct 1, 2023
Down game in narrow SNF win
Mahomes (ankle) completed 18 of 30 pass attempts for 203 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions while adding 51 rushing yards on seven attempts in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes looked like he was on his way to another comfortable win after helping his team build a 17-0 lead at halftime. The Jets' stingy defense woke up in the second half by forcing a safety before intercepting two of Mahomes' pass attempts over the Chiefs' following three drives. The only points Kansas City's offense could muster in the second half came via a Harrison Butker field goal late in the fourth quarter that sealed the narrow win. On a positive note, Mahomes' mobility was not limited after having his ankle rolled up on by a defensive lineman last week, showing his usual burst on seven rushing attempts Sunday. Look for Mahomes to revert to his elite form against a Minnesota defense giving up 287.3 passing yards per game to opposing offenses this season.

Full practice Wednesday
Mahomes (ankle) practiced in full Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes had his right ankle rolled up on in the waning moments of the first half this past Sunday against the Bears. He was able to stay in the game and then lead the offense after the mid-game break, and despite getting subbed out early in the 41-10 blowout win, he still completed 24 of 33 passes for 272 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions while notching 28 more yards on three carries. With an uncapped session under his belt to kick off Week 4 prep, Mahomes is good to go ahead of Sunday's visit to the Jets.
Sep 25, 2023
No injury concerns
Mahomes avoided any significant injuries during Sunday's 41-10 win over the Bears, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes appeared to injure his right leg near the end of Sunday's blowout victory and was briefly seen limping, but a source confirmed to Pelissero on Monday that the star quarterback is fine. Through three contests this season, Mahomes is averaging 268 passing yards per game with seven passing touchdowns and two interceptions. The reigning NFL MVP appears on track to suit up in Week 4 versus the Jets without limitations.

Avoids injury scare Sunday
Mahomes completed 24 of his 33 pass attempts for 272 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 41-10 win over the Bears. He added 28 rushing yards on three attempts.

Restructures deal for big payday
Mahomes and the Chiefs agreed Monday to restructure his contract, giving the quarterback a $210.6 million salary between 2023-26, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes' new restructured deal brings his pay back in line with the elite QBs of the NFL, giving him the highest salary in NFL history for a four-year span. He and Kansas City reportedly plan to revisit the deal again after the conclusion of the 2026 season, at which point Mahomes' salary will once again likely be revised to meet the standard of the QB market. The superstar quarterback is fresh off a 305-yard, two-touchdown performance in Sunday's win over the Jaguars, on what was his 28th birthday. He's facing a prime opportunity to rack up numbers against a vulnerable Bears' secondary Week 3.
Sep 17, 2023
Tops 300 yards on 28th birthday
Mahomes completed 29 of 41 passes for 305 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 17-9 win over the Jaguars. He added 30 yards on seven rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes celebrated his 28th birthday by leading the Chiefs to their first win of the season. He gave Kansas City a 7-3 lead with a nine-yard touchdown pass to Skyy Moore in the final minute of the first half, then found returning favorite target Travis Kelce (knee) for a nine-yard touchdown on the first possession of the second half. Mahomes showed off his signature mix of elusiveness, creativity and arm strength to seal the victory, sidestepping the pass rush before converting a 3rd-and-6 with a 54-yard pass to Moore as Kansas City ran out the clock on the final drive. Kansas City's entire passing game looked much smoother with Kelce back in the fold, and the sky's the limit for Mahomes in Week 3 against Chicago defense that's allowed a 4:0 TD:INT to the combination of Jordan Love and Baker Mayfield.

Struggles without Kelce in opener
Mahomes completed 21 of 39 passes for 226 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Chiefs' 21-20 loss to the Lions on Thursday night. He also rushed six times for 45 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes figured to have more of a challenge than usual with Travis Kelce (knee) sidelined, and that ultimately came to fruition, although largely due to an utterly forgettable night on the part of Kadarius Toney. The third-year wideout's shaky hands directly led to a pick-six early in the third quarter that proved to be critical, given the one-point final margin of victory for Detroit. Mahomes spread the ball around plenty in Kelce's absence, recording multiple completions to six different targets and connecting with a whopping 11 players overall. However, even the two-time NFL MVP couldn't overcome the long odds Kansas City faced on its last two offensive plays, when a Toney drop and an offensive holding call put the Chiefs in a 2nd-and-20 scenario they never recovered from. Kelce should have a solid chance of suiting up in a Week 2 road matchup against the Jaguars a week from Sunday, which would give Mahomes a very good opportunity of rebounding with much better passing numbers.

Not expected to play Saturday
Mahomes isn't in line to see action in Saturday's preseason finale against the Browns, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Palmer, the same applies to star TE Travis Kelce as well as WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling. Once the preseason concludes, Mahomes, who remains an elite fantasy option at the QB position, will shift his focus to preparing for his team's Week 1 matchup against the Lions on Sept. 7.
Aug 19, 2023
Productive in quarter of play
Mahomes completed 10 of 15 passes for 105 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions in the Chiefs' 38-10 preseason win over the Cardinals on Saturday night.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes played the first quarter and was afforded plenty of work, which is the way the perennial Pro Bowler likes it in preparation for the regular season. Mahomes was as sharp as his final line implies and connected with Justin Watson from 18 yards out on a pretty touchdown pass in the closing seconds of the first quarter. With Mahomes now seemingly tuned up for the start of KC's title-defense campaign, he could well sit out next Saturday afternoon's home preseason finale against the Browns.

To play first half Saturday
Coach Andy Reid said Thursday that Mahomes and the Chiefs' starters will play the first half of Saturday's preseason contest in Arizona, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes played only the opening drive of Kansas City's preseason opener despite Reid noting that he was in line to play the first quarter, so it's possible the reigning Super Bowl MVP could once again handle less reps than expected. The plan, according to Reid, is for the second and third teams to play during the third and fourth quarters, at which point Blaine Gabbert, Shane Buechele and Chris Oladokun would get chances to line up under center.
Aug 13, 2023
Plays one drive
Mahomes only played the opening drive of Sunday's 26-24 preseason loss to the Saints, completing both of his passing attempts for 15 total yards. He also rushed once for five yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was expected to play the first quarter, which spanned two offensive series, but he was replaced by Blaine Gabbert after just one drive in charge. With a pair of preseason games left, it remains to be seen how much the reigning Super Bowl MVP will feature prior to Week 1.

In line to play a quarter Sunday
Coach Andy Reid noted Friday that each of the Chiefs' QBs (including Mahomes) are in line to play a quarter in Sunday's preseason opener against the Saints, Matt McMullen of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Also in line to see action Sunday are fellow signal-callers Blaine Gabbert, Shane Buechele and Chris Oladokun, with Sam Hartle of kshb.com relaying that the team's first-stringers are slated to play in the first quarter. For his part, Mahomes told reporters Friday "I like to have at least one or two drives under my belt to say that we're ready to go." Beyond getting Mahomes some snaps in the team's preseason opener, we'd expect the Chiefs to focus on keeping their franchise QB healthy ahead of Week 1 action.

Looking healthy at spring practice
Mahomes (ankle) has been participating in the first week of OTAs, PJ Green of FOX4 KC reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes played through the injury last winter and avoided surgery after the Super Bowl, but he revealed in mid-April that his ankle still wasn't quite back at full strength. Per Nate Taylor of The Athletic, Chiefs coach Andy Reid used the term "100 percent" when discussing Mahomes on Wednesday, telling reporters the QB is "going after it" and "doing a great job" working with his teammates. There's been some change to the WR room for a second straight offseason, with JuJu Smith-Schuster gone and the Chiefs adding second-round pick Rashee Rice and veteran Richie James. The biggest change is at offensive tackle, where veterans Donovan Smith and Jawaan Taylor were signed to replace Orlando Brown (Bengals) and Andrew Wylie (Commanders). It'll likely be a downgrade on the blindside, swapping out Brown for Smith, but Taylor is coming off a big year for Jacksonville and got the largest contract of the bunch despite being a right tackle. It's still a great setup for Mahomes, aided by an elite interior O-line and futur

Mahomes avoided surgery following the Super Bowl win, but he's still working his way back to full health. "I'm happy with where I'm at," he said Monday. Mahomes continues to rehab throughout the week. Come Week 1, his ankle should be a non-issue.

Not too bothered by ankle
Mahomes (ankle) avoided offseason surgery and has been able to do most of his workouts this offseason, NFL.com's Christian Gonzales reports.
ANALYSIS
Shortly after winning his second Super Bowl ring, Mahomes said he didn't think the injury he'd been playing through would impact his availability for OTAs this spring. Coach Andy Reid provided another positive report in late March, furthering the notion that Mahomes will be cleared for full participation when the Chiefs begins on-field work May 22. The team's offseason workout program opens April 17, with the first phase limited to strength and conditioning, injury rehab and meetings. Notable departures since last season on the offensive side include WRs JuJu-Smith Schuster and Mecole Hardman, LT Orlando Brown (replaced by Jawaan Taylor) and OC Eric Bieniemy (replaced by Matt Nagy, who previously had the same role in 2016-17). Reid said he expects 2022 second-round pick Skyy Moore to handle a larger role this year, but the Chiefs also figure to add more talent to their WR room before Week 1 to make up for the offseason losses.

Agrees to amend contract
The Chiefs and Mahomes (ankle) agreed to restructure his contract Wednesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
On the heels of his second Super Bowl title, Mahomes will have $12 million of his 2023 roster bonus converted into a signing bonus, creating $9.6 million in cap space for Kansas City. The team could use the flexibility after losing cogs like wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and safety Juan Thornhill to free agency. As the Chiefs' roster currently stands, the top skill-position players are tight end Travis Kelce, running back Isiah Pacheco and wide receivers Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore. As Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reported back on Feb. 13, Mahomes is aiming to be past the high right-ankle sprain that he sustained in the playoffs by the start of OTAs this spring.

To be ready for OTAs
Mahomes said Monday he doesn't expect his high-ankle sprain to impact his availability for OTAs, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes aggravated his lingering ankle injury late in the second quarter of Sunday's 38-35 win over the Eagles, but that hurdle didn't prevent him from earning his second career Super Bowl MVP title, which he pairs with the 2022 regular season MVP honors. It's encouraging that 27-year-old aims to be 100 percent by the start of this spring's offseason program, indicating the aggravation didn't carry significant complications. It will be interesting to monitor the Chiefs' personnel decisions this offseason, as key skill-position players like JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman (pelvis) and Jerick McKinnon are impending free agents, but regardless of how things shake out Mahomes is a lock to come off the board as one of the elite fantasy options at quarterback in 2023.

Leads comeback Super Bowl win
Mahomes completed 21 of 27 passes for 182 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 38-35 win over the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes and the Chiefs got off to a slow offensive start and entered halftime down 10 points. However, he led the team to a score on every possession in the final two quarters -- a feat made more impressive by the fact that he was playing through an ankle injury that he aggravated late in the second quarter. Mahomes' touchdowns came from 18, five and four yards, and he was named the Super Bowl MVP for the second time in his career. Mahomes was also named the MVP of the regular season Thursday, and given that he is just 27 years old, he's likely to continue to add to his already impressive resume.

Clear for Super Bowl
Mahomes (ankle) doesn't have a designation ahead of Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes again was listed as a full participant on the final injury report for the Super Bowl, one day removed from winning his second NFL MVP award after throwing for a career-high 5,250 yards with 41 touchdowns in 17 games during the 2022 campaign. The Chiefs are expecting the six-year signal-caller to be able to handle most, if not all, of the team's offensive playbook, but James Palmer of NFL Network reported that Mahomes wanted to test out his right ankle a bit more on certain reps Friday and Saturday to ensure he was able to perform those plays without issue. With his status otherwise clear for Sunday, Mahomes will be attempting to lock down his second championship versus a Philadelphia defense that features the top pass rush and also picked off 17 passes during the regular season.

Stays full Thursday
Mahomes (ankle) practiced in full Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes now has been listed as a full participant on eight consecutive injury reports since sustaining a high right-ankle sprain during the Chiefs' divisional-round win against the Jaguars. On Wednesday, coach Andy Reid relayed to James Palmer of NFL Network that Mahomes was capable of handling nearly the entire offensive playbook. One day later, Dianna Russini of ESPN reported that Mahomes was dealing with merely some discomfort in the affected ankle. As such, Mahomes' availability isn't in question ahead of Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles on Sunday.

Mahomes (ankle) was a full practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
As he has since suffering a high right-ankle sprain during the Chiefs' divisional-round win against the Jaguars, Mahomes continues to have no listed limitations on the practice field. Coach Andy Reid spoke of Mahomes' health Wednesday, telling James Palmer of NFL Network that the quarterback now is able to handle approximately the entire offensive playbook. Considering that point, Mahomes again appears poised to enter the weekend without a designation for Super Bowl LVII versus the Eagles on Sunday.

In good standing for Super Bowl
Mahomes (ankle) doesn't have a designation after the first week of preparation ahead of Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles on Sunday, Feb. 12.
ANALYSIS
Super Bowl participants are required to file two full weeks of injury reports, and Mahomes remains in good standing to be the Chiefs' starting quarterback in the upcoming contest. Still, he continues to be listed on reports due to the high right-ankle sprain that he sustained in the divisional round against the Jaguars and played through in the AFC Championship Game versus the Bengals. Despite being somewhat hindered this past Sunday and also losing a good portion of Kansas City's receiving corps due to injury, Mahomes still put up a normal stat line (326 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions on 67 percent passing). Assuming he gets through next week unscathed, he'll have a much tougher test on his hands against the Eagles' top-ranked pass defense from the regular season (179.8 yards per game).

Remains full at practice
Mahomes (ankle) was a full practice participant Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes continues to operate without on-field restrictions since suffering a high right-ankle sprain during the Chiefs' divisional-round win against the Jaguars. Playing through it during this past Sunday's AFC Championship Game versus the Bengals, he completed 29 of 43 passes for 326 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, despite wide receivers JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee), Kadarius Toney (ankle/hamstring) and Mecole Hardman (pelvis) all exiting with injuries of their own. Mahomes discussed his health Thursday, telling Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com that he dealt with some discomfort following the contest but nothing more. With Mahomes' availability not up in the air for Super Bowl LVII against the Eagles, the only question that remains is who among the aforementioned WR trio will be able to suit up Sunday, Feb. 12.
Feb 1, 2023
Remains full at practice
Mahomes (ankle) was listed as a full participant on Wednesday's practice estimate.
ANALYSIS
Like he was last week in advance of this past Sunday's AFC Championship Game, Mahomes would have logged all on-field work if the Chiefs had held a session as they kick off prep for Super Bowl LVII. He played through what was termed a high right-ankle sprain against the Bengals, looking visibly hobbled at times but still gutting it out while Kansas City wide receivers departed with a variety of injuries. Overall, Mahomes completed 29 of 43 passes for 326 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, despite all of JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee), Kadarius Toney (ankle/hamstring) and Mecole Hardman (pelvis) dealing with health concerns. All three players were listed as DNPs on Wednesday, so the team's skill positions will be monitored to see who may be at Mahomes' disposal Sunday, Feb. 12 against the Eagles.

Propels team to Super Bowl LVII
Mahomes completed 29 of 43 passes for 326 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions during the Chiefs' 23-20 win over the Bengals in Sunday's AFC Championship Game. He also rushed three times for eight yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes unsurprisingly had a critical role in the Chiefs finally getting over the hump against Joe Burrow's Bengals, not only with his overall stellar day through the air, but even with an otherwise unremarkable five-yard run in his final touch of the contest. The perennial All-Pro quarterback connected with Travis Kelce and Marquez Valdes-Scantling for touchdown passes of 14 and 19 yards, respectively, but it was his decision to pull the ball down and take off on a third-down play with 17 seconds remaining that helped lead to a game-winning 45-yard field goal by Harrison Butker, as he was able to draw an unnecessary roughness penalty on his way out of bounds that gave Kansas City 15 extremely valuable yards. Mahomes will now have two weeks to get further treatment and rest for his gimpy ankle before having to face the Eagles' vaunted, league-best pass rush in Super Bowl LVII, but the health of Kadarius Toney (ankle), JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) and Mecole Hardman (pelvis), who all exited Sunday's game with th

Cleared to face Bengals
Mahomes (ankle) doesn't carry an injury designation for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals after being listed as a full practice participant Wednesday through Friday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes, who suffered a high right ankle sprain in last weekend's divisional round playoff win over the Jaguars, had already been confirmed as Sunday's starter by coach Andy Reid, per Adam Teicher of ESPN, with the Chiefs' final injury report officially confirming that there's no doubt about the QB's availability against Cincinnati. What remains to be seen, however, is to what degree Mahomes' mobility might be impacted by his ankle issue, though Reid suggested that Kansas City's game plan has enough options in it for the team to tailor its play-calling around any limitations Mahomes may be dealing with come Sunday.
Jan 26, 2023
Practices fully again
Mahomes (ankle) logged another full practice session Thursday, Matt McMullen of the Chiefs' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With back-to-back full practices under his belt, Mahomes remains on track to play in Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals. As Adam Teicher of ESPN.com notes, the focus with regard to Kansas City's star signal-caller has gone from whether he can play this weekend to how effective he'll be while working through a high-ankle sprain that he sustained in last Saturday's win over the Jaguars.
Jan 25, 2023
Practices in full
Mahomes (ankle) was listed as a full practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Though Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain in this past Saturday's 27-20 divisional-round win over the Jaguars, Adam Teicher ESPN relays that the QB indicated that his ankle has progressed since then, while declaring himself "ready to go" for this Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bengals. With a full practice to start the week under his belt, Mahomes is on track to play this weekend in the absence of any setbacks, though it remains to be seen how much his mobility will be impacted by his ankle issue.
Jan 25, 2023
Slated to practice Wednesday
Coach Andy Reid indicated that Mahomes (ankle) is in line to practice Wednesday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
As for the QB's potential participation level in Wednesday's session, Reid noted that he thinks Mahomes -- who took part in the team's morning walk-through -- will probably do everything, but added, "we'll see." The Chiefs' looming injury report will add further context to the situation, but the mere fact that the signal-caller is slated to practice at this stage bodes well for his availability for Sunday's AFC Championship game against the Bengals.
Jan 23, 2023
Wednesday practice status TBD
Coach Andy Reid relayed Monday that it has yet to be determined whether Mahomes -- who is dealing with a high right ankle sprain -- will practice Wednesday, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In terms of the QB's potential availability for the Chiefs' first on-field work of the week, Reid noted, "as far as the reps, I'll have to see how he feels as we get ready for practice." For his part, Mahomes plans to play in Sunday's AFC Championship game against the Bengals, with Reid indicating that the team plans to "take it day by day" with the franchise signal-caller. Unless Mahomes is able to practice fully by the end of the week, however, he figures to head into the weekend with an official injury designation.

MRI confirms high ankle sprain
An MRI has reportedly confirmed that Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain Saturday against the Jaguars, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Schefter indicates that it appears as though the QB avoided any other issues with his right ankle beyond the reported high-ankle sprain, while Mahomes has noted that he plans to play in next Sunday's AFC Championship game. That said, we'd expect the signal-caller's practice reps to be managed in the days ahead and chances are, Mahomes will carry an official designation on Kansas City's final injury report this coming Friday.

High ankle sprain, per report
Mahomes reportedly sustained a high-ankle sprain during Saturday's 27-20 divisional-round win over the Jaguars, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, X-rays on Mahomes' right ankle came up negative, with Adam Teicher of ESPN relaying that the QB is slated to undergo an MRI on Sunday. For his part, Mahomes has indicated that he expects to be "good to go" for next weekend's AFC Championship game, but at a minimum, look for his practice participation to be limited ahead of the contest.
Jan 21, 2023
Set for MRI on right ankle
Mahomes is slated for an MRI on his right ankle Sunday to determine the extent of the injury that he played through during Saturday's 27-20 divisional-round win against the Jaguars, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was taken down awkwardly near the end of the first quarter, and while he finished out the possession, he yielded the offense to backup Chad Henne for the team's next drive as he underwent and X-ray that came back negative. Such news allowed the Chiefs to clear Mahomes to return, and he proceeded to finish out the game, completing 22 of 30 passes for 195 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing three times for eight yards. Afterward, he relayed to Nate Taylor of The Athletic that he'll "be ready to go" for next Sunday's AFC Championship Game, but Sunday's test likely will reveal what type of practice restrictions he'll be under in the coming days.

Overcomes ankle injury
Mahomes (ankle) completed 22 of 30 passes for 195 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 27-20 win over the Jaguars. He added three rushes for eight yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes started the game very well and orchestrated a 12-play, 83-yard touchdown drive on the Chiefs' first offensive possession. However, he suffered an ankle injury one drive later and was held out for the entire second quarter. Mahomes returned in the second half but was largely limited to throws in the short areas of the field to avoid any additional hits to his lower body. While that impacted his stat line, Mahomes still managed to lead Kansas City to the AFC Championship Game. After Saturday's victory, he confirmed that X-rays came back negative on his ankle, and that he would be ready to take on either the Bengals or Bills next week Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.

Back in Saturday's game
Mahomes (ankle) returned to Saturday's divisional-round contest against the Jaguars, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After hurting his right ankle late in the first quarter, Mahomes sat out most of the second quarter as he went to the locker room and then watched it from the sideline while Chad Henne led the Chiefs offense. Now that he's back in the game, though, Mahomes appears as if he'll attempt to gut out the injury with his ankle taped up.
Jan 21, 2023
Questionable to return
Mahomes (ankle) is questionable to return to Saturday's divisional-round game versus the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
After getting taken to the ground awkwardly near end of the first quarter, Mahomes was visibly hobbled and favoring his right ankle, but he got it taped up between quarters and stayed in the game until a Harrison Butker field goal. During Jacksonville's ensuing drive, though, Mahomes eventually made his way to the locker room following conversations with coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs' training staff. While he returned to the sideline with a bigger tape job, Mahomes has yielded Kansas City's offense to backup quarterback Chad Henne.
Jan 21, 2023
Hurts ankle Saturday
Mahomes (ankle) went to the locker room during Saturday's divisional-round game against the Jaguars, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was taken to the ground awkwardly by two Jaguars defenders as he attempted to get rid of the ball in the first quarter. He was clearly hobbled and favoring his right ankle as he finished out a drive that ended in a Harrison Butker field goal, but after trying to convince coach Andy Reid and the Chiefs training staff to stay in the game, Mahomes left the field for further examination. With Mahomes sidelined, Chad Henne will be under center for Kansas City.
Jan 7, 2023
Light workload in win
Mahomes completed 18 of 26 passes for 202 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Saturday's 31-13 win over the Raiders. He added three rushes for 29 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes made quick work of the Raiders defense on the Chiefs' first offensive possession, as he completed a deep 67-yard pass to Justin Watson prior to capping the drive with a two-yard pass to Jerick McKinnon to find the end zone. Kansas City continued to move the ball effectively throughout the game, though all three of the team's additional touchdowns came on the ground. With the game comfortably in hand, Mahomes attempted only nine passes in the second half. He'll end the regular season with 5,250 passing yards to go along with 41 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Jan 1, 2023
Three more TDs in win
Mahomes completed 29 of 42 passes for 328 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Chiefs' 27-24 win over the Broncos on Sunday. He also rushed four times for eight yards.
ANALYSIS
The final numbers were par for the course for Mahomes, but the way he got there was a bit different from the norm. Kadarius Toney actually served as the receiving yardage leader for Kansas City on the afternoon, while Jerick McKinnon (six, three yards) and Blake Bell (17 yards) were on the receiving end of Mahomes' touchdown passes. Mahomes' three scoring tosses pushed him to 40 on the season -- the second-highest total of his career -- and served as his fourth straight multi-touchdown tally. The Chiefs remained alive for the top seed in the AFC with Sunday's win, so Mahomes and his diverse array of skill-position weapons project to be deployed as usual in a Week 18 divisional road matchup against the Raiders.
Dec 24, 2022
Goes for three scores Saturday
Mahomes completed 16 of 28 pass attempts for 224 yards and two touchdowns while adding another score and eight rushing yards on two carries in Saturday's 24-10 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes didn't need to post gaudy numbers in this comfortable victory, as Seattle rarely threatened the decision after starting the second half down two scores. The 27-year-old's short rushing touchdown brought his season total up to four, doubling his previous career high. Mahomes and the Chiefs will close out the regular season with victory lap games against AFC West opponents in Weeks 17 and 18, beginning with a home tilt against the Broncos next Sunday. Denver boasts one of the stingiest pass defenses in the NFL, but Mahomes is a matchup-proof fantasy quarterback.
Dec 18, 2022
Helps Chiefs to division title
Mahomes completed 36 of 41 passes for 336 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Chiefs' 30-24 overtime victory over the Texans on Sunday. He also five times for 33 yards and another score, threw a two-point conversion pass and fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes' near-perfect afternoon ironically came during a surprising game-long struggle for the Chiefs, who were gunning for their seventh straight AFC West title. Kansas City was ultimately able to accomplish the feat with key contributions from multiple players, with Mahomes connecting most often with Travis Kelce and JuJu Smith-Schuster. The star signal-caller tossed both of his scoring throws in the second quarter, connecting with Jerick McKinnon and Marquez Valdes-Scantling from 20 and four yards out, respectively. Mahomes then scored a critical rushing touchdown from five yards out early in the fourth quarter to give the Chiefs, which when paired with his two-point conversion pass to McKinnon, gave KC a three-point lead at the time. With the division title now secured, Mahomes will look to keep his now-11-win squad in contention for top playoff positioning during a Week 16 home battle against the Seahawks on Saturday afternoon.

Overcomes mistakes in Denver
Mahomes completed 28 of 42 passes for 352 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions in Sunday's 34-28 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
He also ran the ball three times for minus-3 yards. It's the first time in two years (Week 14 of 2020 against Miami) Mahomes got picked off three times, but his miscues only managed to let Denver hang around after Kansas City had jumped out to a 27-0 lead. Jerick McKinnon was surprisingly his biggest weapon, catching back-to-back TDs in the second quarter en route to Mahomes' seventh game this season with three or more touchdown passes. Expect him to be productive again in Week 15 against a Texans defense that just gave Dak Prescott a little trouble before giving up a 98-yard game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter.
Dec 7, 2022
No limitations in practice
Mahomes (foot) was a full practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The foot bruise he picked up in Sunday's loss to Cincinnati shouldn't be an issue for the upcoming matchup with Denver. Mahomes will be without WR Mecole Hardman (abdomen) for at least one more week, while WR Kadarius Toney (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday as a limited participant.
Dec 7, 2022
Downplays foot bruise
Mahomes relayed Wednesday that he suffered a foot bruise on his final play against the Bengals this past Sunday, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, Mahomes indicates that he feels fine and the issue shouldn't bother him as this weekend's game against the Broncos approaches. Wednesday's injury report will clarify whether Mahomes' practice participation will be impacted at all by his bruised foot, but at this stage, there's nothing to suggest that the QB's Week 14 availability is in any danger.

Held in check through air by Cincy
Mahomes completed 16 of 27 passes for 223 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Bengals. he added nine yards and another TD on two carries.
ANALYSIS
The rushing score salvaged his day to some extent from a fantasy perspective, but it was still a disappointing showing for Mahomes, who posted his lowest passing yards total of the season after averaging 364.5 yards over his prior six games. The superstar QB will look to bounce back in Week 14 against a stingy Broncos defense that held Mahomes to 454 yards across two meetings in 2021.
Nov 27, 2022
Another 300-yard performance
Mahomes completed 27 of 42 passes for 320 yards and one touchdown with one interception in Sunday's 26-10 win over the Rams. He added 36 rushing yards on four carries.
ANALYSIS
Kansas City wasn't able to pull away until the second half, but Mahomes still reeled off his sixth straight game with over 300 passing yards and once again hit Travis Kelce for another TD. Mahomes has already topped 3,500 passing yards on the season as he takes aim at Peyton Manning's NFL record of 5,477, and he could need to produce more fireworks in Week 13 in a showdown with Joe Burrow and the Bengals.
Nov 21, 2022
Clutch in SNF victory
Mahomes completed 20 of 34 pass attempts for 329 yards and three touchdowns while adding 23 rushing yards on four attempts in Sunday's 30-27 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was in rare form against a talented Chargers secondary despite missing top wideouts JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion) and Mecole Hardman (abdomen). He also lost fill-in starter Kadarius Toney early in the contest to a hamstring injury, which makes Mahomes' robust stat line even more impressive all things considered. Mahomes fortunately did not lose the services of Travis Kelce, as the dynamic duo connected for three more scores in an already dominant campaign. The 27-year-old has not experienced any sort of dip in production sans Tyreek Hill in 2022, boasting 10-game totals of 3,265 passing yards and 28 touchdowns that are right on par with his dominant career norms. Mahomes and the Chiefs will take on a reeling Rams squad next Sunday.
Nov 13, 2022
Stellar showing in win
Mahomes completed 26 of 35 passes for 331 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in the Chiefs' 27-17 win over the Jaguars on Sunday. He also rushed seven times for 39 yards and fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes worked through the early exit of JuJu Smith-Schuster (head) without much issue, pivoting to targeting Travis Kelce, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, versatile running back Jerick McKinnon and newcomer Kadarius Toney with plenty of success. Mahomes connected with Toney (six yards), Valdes-Scantling (18 yards), Noah Gray (13 yards) and Kelce (seven yards) for his scoring tosses, and he'll head into a Week 11 divisional road clash against the Chargers next Sunday night having thrown multiple touchdown passes in five of his last six games.
Nov 7, 2022
Does it all in clutch OT victory
Mahomes completed 43 of 68 pass attempts for 446 yards, a touchdown and an interception while adding 63 rushing yards and another score on six attempts in Sunday's 20-17 overtime win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes faced a stiff test in the form of a physical Titans defense, and he was up for the challenge despite a slow start for the entire offense. The superstar quarterback did everything but catch his own passes, resulting in over 500 yards yards of offense for pleased fantasy managers. Even the interception can't be blamed on Mahomes, as the usually sure-handed Travis Kelce bobbled a short pass into a waiting defender's hands. The 26-year-old stole the show down the stretch with two impressive scrambles to extend drives and send the game into overtime. All in all, it was another dominant performance from one of the game's top players. Mahomes and the Chiefs will face the Jaguars next Sunday.

Runs up score on SF
Mahomes completed 25 of 34 pass attempts for 423 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 44-23 rout of the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was impeccable against a San Francisco squad that had all of its key defensive players back in action. The superstar quarterback's lone blemish was an interception off of a deflection in the second quarter. Mahomes new season highs in passing yards (423) and yards per attempt (12.4) with Sunday's masterful performance. The 26-year-old heads into Kansas City's bye week with 2,159 passing yards and a 20:4 TD:INT ratio through seven games. Mahomes and the Chiefs will resume action Nov. 6 against the Titans.
Oct 16, 2022
Throws two picks in Sunday's loss
Mahomes completed 25 of 40 passes for 338 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Bills. He added 21 rushing yards on four carries.
ANALYSIS
It was another back-and-forth battle between the two AFC powerhouses, but after Josh Allen led a TD drive and left just one a minute on the clock in the fourth quarter, Mahomes wasn't able to answer back, instead throwing his second INT of the afternoon. The superstar QB had only been picked off twice through five games coming into Sunday, and he's tossed multiple TDs in five of six games so far in 2022. Mahomes will look to be sharper, and get back in the win column, in a Week 7 clash with the 49ers.
Oct 11, 2022
Picks apart Raiders
Mahomes completed 29 of 43 passes for 292 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Monday's 30-29 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes started slowly, as he had only 98 yards and a touchdown across the first two quarters of the game. However, he led the Chiefs' comeback effort by connecting with Travis Kelce on each of his four touchdowns and also delivered long passes of 36 and 28 yards to Mecole Hardman. It was another impressive performance for Mahomes, who now has at least three touchdowns in three of five games this season.
Oct 3, 2022
Makes light work of top defense
Mahomes completed 23 of 37 pass attempts for 249 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while adding 34 rushing yards on four carries in a 41-31 win over Tampa Bay.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes and the entire Kansas City offense were nearly flawless on the road against one of the league's top defensive units entering Week 4. The only drawbacks from a fantasy perspective were the lack of yardage -- due to a constant positive field position advantage from the special teams unit -- and the one interception thrown late in the fourth quarter. The superstar quarterback otherwise looked unbothered by a defense that held Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to 14 points last week. Mahomes just endured a brutal three-week stretch of opposing defenses, so his fantasy GMs will be relieved to see a soft matchup at home against the Raiders next Monday.
Sep 25, 2022
Falls short on road Sunday
Mahomes completed 20 of 35 passes for 262 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Chiefs' 20-17 loss to the Colts on Sunday. He also rushed four times for 26 yards.
ANALYSIS
The star signal-caller was unable to work his magic Sunday against a desperate Colts team looking for its first win. Mahomes did display some good rapport with his top two wideouts in JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, hitting the duo on nine occasions for 137 yards on 15 targets. Mahomes also connected with Travis Kelce for his one touchdown pass from three yards out late in the first quarter. However, Mahomes was directly responsible for short-circuiting his team's final chance at a win, as his final pass of the day, intended for Smith-Schuster, was picked off by Rodney McLeod at the Colts' 36-yard line with two seconds remaining. Mahomes will look to regroup in time for a Week 4 road showdown against Tom Brady and the Buccaneers.
Sep 15, 2022
Modest, mistake-free effort in win
Mahomes completed 24 of 35 passes for 235 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and rushed twice for minus-1 yard in the Chiefs' 27-24 win over the Chargers on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes' yardage total left plenty to be desired from a fantasy standpoint, particularly after his breakout 360-yard Week 1 effort. However, the star signal-caller turned in a solid performance in which he managed to avoid turnovers while completing his pair of scoring tosses to the unlikely duo of Jerick McKinnon and Justin Watson, the latter on a beautiful 41-yard throw across the middle on the run in the third quarter. Mahomes recorded completions to nine different targets overall, and his impeccable ball security was key to allowing the Chiefs to mount a comeback from a 17-7 deficit. Mahomes and his teammates now get some extra time off before a Week 3 road showdown with the Colts a week from Sunday.

Wrist issue a minor concern
Mahomes (wrist) said Tuesday that he was a little sore following Sunday's win over the Cardinals, but he feels a lot better, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes injured his left wrist early in Sunday's contest and had it significantly taped up, per Sweeney. However, it didn't appear to hinder his play as he completed 30 of 39 passes for 360 yards and five touchdowns during the blowout win. The issue flared up again Monday, so he received treatment and is already feeling better. "I'm sure I'll be good to go this week," Mahomes said. By all accounts, the issue doesn't appear significant, but it's still worth monitoring with the Chiefs having a short turnaround leading into Thursday's matchup with the Chargers.
Sep 11, 2022
Another dominant opener
Mahomes completed 30 of 39 passes for 360 yards and five touchdowns in Sunday's 44-21 win over the Cardinals. He also added five yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
The franchise quarterback made it clear very quickly the Kansas City offense would be just fine without Tyreek Hill. Mahomes set a new personal record by completing 12 straight passes at one point, and he found nine different receivers over the course of the game. The 26-year-old remains nearly perfect in Week 1 contests -- in five season openers during his career so far, he's completed 72.5 percent of his passes while averaging 308.4 yards and compiling an incredible 18:0 TD:INT. Mahomes did injure his left wrist while being tackled on his first TD pass on the day, but he played the rest of the game with his wrist wrapped and the injury doesn't appear to be a serious one. Per Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com, he'll undergo testing on his wrist before Kansas City begins prepping for its Thursday clash with the Chargers in Week 2.

Two drives, two TD passes
Mahomes completed 12 of 19 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 24-14 preseason win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes played only two possessions but was dominant while in the game, capping them with touchdown passes of five and seven yards, both to Jody Fortson. The superstar quarterback looks like he's in midseason form, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Mahomes get the night off for Kansas City's preseason finale Thursday against the Packers.
Aug 18, 2022
In line to play Saturday
Mahomes is in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against Washington, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While backup QB Chad Henne isn't in line to play in the contest, coach Andy Reid indicated that the Chiefs' starters could play as much as the first half on Saturday. Mahomes is thus in line to be followed in the contest by Shane Buechele and Dustin Crum.
Aug 13, 2022
Smooth showing in preseason opener
Mahomes went 6-for-7 for 60 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason opener against the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes only got one possession in his first tune-up game, but it could hardly have gone much better. He marched his team down the field before tossing a five-yard touchdown pass to Blake Bell. It's possible he'll remain in the game longer next week against Washington.
Aug 11, 2022
In line for reps Saturday
Mahomes is expected to see action in the first quarter of Saturday's preseason opener against the Bears, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Based on coach Andy Reid's comments, after Mahomes works in the first quarter of the contest, the team will turn to Chad Henne in the second quarter, Shane Buechele in the third and finish up with Dustin Crum in the fourth quarter. In that scenario, Mahomes may not rack up a ton of passing attempts, but he will at least have a chance to get some game reps in with Kansas City's re-tooled wide receiver corps.
Aug 1, 2022
Deemed fine after tweaking ankle
Though Mahomes tweaked his ankle during Monday's practice, coach Andy Reid downplayed the issue, Charles Goldman of USA Today reports. "Yeah, he got stepped on," Reid noted of the Chiefs' starting QB. "He's OK. He's alright. An offensive lineman got pushed back into him."
ANALYSIS
With Mahomes having evidently avoided any injury of note, the star signal caller will look to continue building his rapport with Kansas City's re-tooled wide receiver corps, which features JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mecole Hardman, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Skyy Moore. With former top wideout Tyreek Hill now with the Dolphins, there are targets up for grabs in the team's passing game, but however they are allocated, Mahomes will no doubt benefit from the continued presence of clear-cut top end Travis Kelce.
Mar 23, 2022
Loses top WR target
The Chiefs have agreed to trade Mahomes' top wideout Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins in exchange for multiple draft picks, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of the move, Kansas City's wide receiver corps is currently headed by JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman, with Josh Gordon, Justin Watson, Cornell Powell, Gehrig Dieter and Corey Coleman also in the mix. That said, the Chiefs are destined to add depth at the position, via free agency and the draft. Either way though, losing a proven target and playmaker like Hill isn't optimal with regard to Mahomes' fantasy upside, at least until there's added clarity with regard to Kansas City's wideout pecking order once the dust settles this offseason.

Wastes hot start in AFCCG loss
Mahomes completed 26 of 39 passes for 275 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 27-24 overtime AFC Championship Game loss to the Bengals. He added 19 yards on three rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was unstoppable early on, capping Kansas City's first three drives with touchdown passes to Tyreek Hill (10 yards), Travis Kelce (five yards) and Mecole Hardman (three yards) en route to a 21-3 lead. He had an opportunity to build on a 21-10 lead from Cincinnati's one-yard line just before halftime but made an ill-advised throw to Hill short of the end zone, running out the clock. Momentum shifted to the Bengals after that, and the visitors took a 24-21 lead before Mahomes led Kansas City to a game-tying field goal with three seconds left in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs then got an opportunity to secure a second consecutive postseason overtime win when they won the coin toss in overtime, but Mahomes threw his second interception of the day after a pair of incomplete passes and the Bengals kicked the game-winning field goal on the ensuing drive. Despite failing to reach the Super Bowl this year, Mahomes remains the gold standard of quarterback play -- both on the field and in fantasy -- as he's led h

Legendary performance in win
Mahomes completed 33 of 44 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 42-36 overtime win over the Bills. He added 69 yards and a touchdown on seven rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes scored an eight-yard rushing touchdown and threw a two-yard score to Byron Pringle in the first half. After a quiet third quarter, Mahomes turned it on as the Bills and Chiefs traded leads down the stretch. A 64-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill put the Chiefs up 33-29 with 1:02 remaining, but the Bills retook the lead with 13 seconds remaining, only for Mahomes to complete two passes for 44 yards, setting up Harrison Butker's game-tying 49-yard field goal. Kansas City marched down the field after winning the toss in overtime, with Mahomes' eight-yard touchdown pass to Travis Kelce sending the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game against the Bengals.
Jan 17, 2022
Reaches peak form in win
Mahomes completed 30 of 39 pass attempts for 404 yards, five touchdowns and one interception while rushing for 29 yards on three carries in Sunday's 42-21 win over Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes had about as flawless of a playoff debut as you could envision as the Chiefs made easy work of the Steelers in the wild-card round. The 26-year-old looked like his 2019 Super Bowl MVP former self, slinging dots at all three pass depths en route to a gaudy stat line. The Chiefs will advance to the AFC divisional round to face Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, in what is shaping up to be a treat for all football fans next week. The Bills boast one of the league's best overall defenses and arguably the best coverage safety duo in the league. That being said, the Steelers also presented a tough matchup on paper for Mahomes, but he was able to slice through their unit like Swiss cheese.
Jan 8, 2022
Tops 300 total yards
Mahomes completed 27 of 44 pass attempts for 270 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 28-24 win over the Broncos. He also rushed the ball nine time for 54 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes played the majority of the game without Tyreek Hill (heel), though he still managed to move the ball effectively. He showed particular rapport with Mecole Hardman, as the duo connected on gains of 44 and 21 yards. Meanwhile, Mahomes threw for multiple touchdowns for the fifth consecutive game, finding Travis Kelce for a three-yard score and Jerick McKinnon from 14 yards away. To round out his line, Mahomes topped 50 yards on the ground for only the second time this season. Though Mahomes hasn't topped 300 passing yards in six of his last seven starts, he will lead Kansas City into the playoffs with plenty of confidence after his solid showing.
Jan 2, 2022
Quiet in second half of loss
Mahomes completed 26 of 35 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 34-31 loss to Cincinnati. He added 25 yards on two rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
After punting on the opening drive, the Chiefs reeled off four consecutive touchdown drives, which included touchdown passes of 29 yards to Demarcus Robinson and three yards to Travis Kelce from Mahomes. Kansas City had a 28-17 halftime lead but cooled off after halftime while Cincinnati's offense just kept chewing clock and scoring points. What looked like it could be a memorable performance early fizzled out into a subpar game by Mamomes' lofty standards, but the loss means the top seed in the AFC will remain in play in Week 18, so Mahomes will start the Chiefs' season finale in Denver.
Dec 26, 2021
Effective in blowout victory
Mahomes completed 23 of 30 pass attempts for 258 yards and three touchdowns against Pittsburgh on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Even with Travis Kelce out and Tyreek Hill missing practice this week, Mahomes led the Chiefs to consistent points with very little stress as Kansas City shut down Pittsburgh. Mahomes' lead target was Byron Pringle, who caught six passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns on seven targets. Mahomes should have Kelce back and will definitely have more practice time with Hill prior to Kansas City's Week 17 game against Cincinnati, which hopefully turns into a shootout after Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 525 yards and four touchdowns against Baltimore on Sunday.
Dec 16, 2021
Season-high yardage total in win
Mahomes completed 31 of 47 passes for 410 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Chiefs' 34-28 overtime win over the Chargers on Thursday night. He also rushed three times for 32 yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes completed all three of his scoring throws in the fourth quarter and overtime, the last a 34-yard game-winner to Travis Kelce to cap off an OT-opening five-play drive. The 2018 NFL MVP's passing yardage total was also a season high, and perhaps most encouraging for fantasy managers, his prolific connections with Kelce and Tyreek Hill were alive and well to the tune of 22 completions for 339 yards and three total touchdowns. The performance was an especially timely one for Mahomes considering the context of the fantasy playoffs, especially when factoring in he'd disappointed in multiple games since Week 6. The stellar all-around night gives Mahomes plenty of momentum heading into a Week 16 home matchup against the Steelers a week from Sunday.
Dec 12, 2021
Highly efficient in win
Mahomes completed 20 of 24 passes for 258 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 48-9 win over the Raiders. He added four rushes for 20 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes picked apart the Raiders defense in the first half, putting up 176 yards and two touchdowns. However, the Chiefs were up 35-3 at halftime, so Mahomes took to the air only nine times in the final two quarters. As a result, his stat line doesn't look as robust as it otherwise could have. Even so it, was a reassuring performance, as Mahomes averaged over 10 yards per attempt for the first time since Week 2. Next up, he and the Chiefs will draw a matchup Thursday against the Chargers.
Dec 6, 2021
Claws way to victory
Mahomes completed 15 of 29 pass attempts for 184 yards and an interception while adding 12 yards and a touchdown on four rush attempts in Sunday's 22-9 win over Denver.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was stymied by the Broncos' aggresive approach on defense, as the constant pressure kept the quarterback from developing rhythm in the pocket. In the superstar's defense, his lone interception came as a result of a dropped pass by Tyreek Hill that bounced into Pat Surtain's hands. Mahomes finished without a passing touchdown for the second consecutive game and third time overall this season; he did not have any zero passing touchdown games in 2020. Despite his recent struggles, the Chiefs continue to win and sit at 8-4 heading into an important matchup against the Raiders next Sunday.
Nov 21, 2021
Held in check in Sunday's win
Mahomes completed 23 of 37 passes for 260 yards with one interception in Sunday's 19-9 win over the Cowboys. He also gained 11 rushing yards on seven carries.
ANALYSIS
Kansas City's brief offensive resurgence lasted all of one week, as the Cowboys focused on taking away the deep ball while Micah Parsons and the pass rush chased after Mahomes. Fortunately, the K.C. defense put together an even better game plan to handle Dak Prescott and a short-handed Dallas attack. Mahomes will head into a Week 12 bye on a four-game winning streak, but with plenty of questions to answer after he's failed to throw more than one TD in four of his last five contests.
Nov 15, 2021
Breaks out with monster game
Mahomes completed 35 of 50 pass attempts for 406 yards and five touchdowns in Sunday's 41-14 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was finally clicking on all cylinders for what seems like the first time this entire season. It also felt like the first time all three of Kansas City's stars flourished together in the same contest. The noticeable difference in Mahomes' game was his decision making, as he consistently took what the defense gave him instead of going for the flashy big throws excessively. It has undoubtedly been a rough first half of the season for the 25-year-old, but this is the kind of confidence-boosting performance that his fantasy managers have been patiently waiting for. Mahomes and the Chiefs will take on the Cowboys next Sunday in what could be a high-scoring affair between offenses that rediscovered their grooves this week.
Nov 7, 2021
Struggles yet again
Mahomes completed 20 of 37 pass attempts for 166 yards and one touchdown against Green Bay on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
For the third week in a row, Mahomes had a favorable matchup but averaged under six yards per pass attempt and failed to score multiple touchdowns. Even before this brutal three-game stretch Mahomes had more turnovers (five) than touchdowns (four) in Weeks 5 and 6, so he's been struggling for five weeks now. Mahomes is clearly too good of a quarterback -- and players like Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce too good as pass catchers -- for these struggles to last forever, but it's alarming that it has taken this long to sort out their struggles. An adjustment of some kind in the Kansas City offense might be necessary, and if so they better figure it out before they face the Raiders on Sunday Night Football in Week 10.
Nov 1, 2021
Throws pick in win
Mahomes completed 29 of 48 passes for 275 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Monday night's 20-17 win over the Giants. He also rushed three times for 10 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes connected on his first eight passes before having an attempt bounce off the helmet of a teammate and then intercepted in the end zone to halt Kansas City's opening drive. That play gave Mahomes a seventh straight outing with at least one pick and he flirted a couple others Monday night as well. Nonetheless, the signal-caller still did enough to lead the Chiefs to victory, mostly by utilizing Tyreek Hill on crossing routes and finding targets close to the line of scrimmage. Although it again wasn't a pretty performance by Mahomes' standards, he'll now approach Week 9's showdown against Aaron Rodgers and the Packers coming off a needed victory.
Oct 28, 2021
Not on injury report
Mahomes is not listed on Kansas City's Week 8 injury report.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was shook up during his team's Week 7 loss to the Titans, but the QB -- who was replaced by Chad Henne in the fourth quarter of the contest -- subsequently cleared the NFL's concussion protocol and approaches Monday night's game against the Giants free of any injury concerns, per coach Andy Reid, via Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post. Seven weeks in the 2021 season, Mahomes ranks fourth in the NFL with 2,093 passing yards and has thrown 18 TDs versus nine picks in that span, while rushing 32 times for 219 yards and a score.
Oct 24, 2021
Not expected to miss time
Mahomes (undisclosed) avoided a concussion in Sunday's loss to the Titans and is expected to start against the Giants in Week 8, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes exited the game after being shaken up on a hit that caught him up high, and there was no reason to rush his return with the Chiefs getting blown out. He subsequently cleared the NFL's concussion protocol, so Chiefs fans and Mahomes fantasy managers alike can breathe a sigh of relief. His practice reps will likely be capped this week, but Mahomes should be available against the Giants on MNF and will have an extra day to heal up.
Oct 24, 2021
Avoids concussion Sunday
Mahomes, who was replaced by Chad Henne in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Titans after absorbing a hit, was subsequently able to clear the NFL's concussion protocol, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Kansas City down 27-3, coach Andy Reid played it safe with his star QB, so at this stage it looks like Mahomes should be fine for next Monday's game against the Giants. Mahomes indicated after Sunday's contest that he feels fine, but it will still be worth checking back on his status once the team resumes practicing in advance of Week 8.
Oct 24, 2021
Exits game in fourth quarter
Mahomes was replaced by Chad Henne in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Titans after being shook up by a hit that led to the QB being helped off the field, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
At first glance, this didn't look good for Mahomes, but he subsequently emerged from the medical tent and appeared to be okay. However, with Kansas City down by a score of 27-3, it's quite possible that Mahomes being removed from the contest was a precautionary move. Prior to his exit, Mahomes completed 20 of 35 passes for 206 yards and a pick, while adding six carries for 35 yards. In any case, the star signal-caller's status is now worth monitoring as next Monday's game against the Giants approaches.
Oct 17, 2021
Racks up 397 yards
Mahomes completed 32 of his 47 passes for 397 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 31-13 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes led the Chiefs to only 10 points in the first half, in part because he threw two interceptions. After his struggles in Week 5, there was significant reason to worry about his performance. However, he roared back to complete 13 of 23 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the second half to post his highest passing yardage total of the season. On the campaign, Mahomes has recorded multiple passing touchdowns in every game and has topped 300 yards in three of six contests.
Oct 3, 2021
Tosses five TDs in Week 4 win
Mahomes completed 24 of 30 passes for 278 yards, five touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 42-30 win over the Eagles. He added 26 yards on five rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes capped Kansas City's first possession with a shovel pass to Clyde Edwards-Helaire for a one-yard touchdown, then found Tyreek Hill for a six-yard score to take a 14-10 lead before adding a two-yard pass to Jody Fortson for his third touchdown pass in as many first-half possessions. His hot streak was briefly interrupted by an interception on the first drive of the second half, but Mahomes bounced back with touchdowns of 12 and 44 yards to Hill as the Chiefs pulled away in the fourth quarter. Mahomes boasts an impressive 14:4 TD:INT heading into a high-profile Week 5 rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game against the Bills.

Pair of picks in home loss
Mahomes completed 27 of 44 passes for 260 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in the Chiefs' 30-24 loss to the Chargers on Sunday. He also rushed four times for 45 yards.
ANALYSIS
Kansas City has suffered a few Arrowhead Stadium losses during Mahomes' tenure as starting quarterback, and this latest one can be pinned partly on his shoulders. The star quarterback threw a particularly ill-timed interception off his back foot with the game knotted at 24 and 1:55 remaining, leading to what would eventually be the Chargers' game-winning touchdown. Mahomes' other pick came in the first quarter off a deflected pass and on an acrobatic snag by rookie Asante Samuel, while his three scores went into the hands of the unlikely trio of Jody Fortson, Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Mecole Hardman. Mahomes and the Chiefs will now look to shake off a rare second consecutive loss and even their record in a road battle versus the Eagles in Week 4.

Another strong outing
Mahomes completed 24 of 31 pass attempts for 343 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 36-35 loss to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes carved up the Ravens' secondary -- as he is known to do on occasion -- while spreading the ball around to nine different receivers. He did have an ill-advised interception where he tried making one of his signature throws while being tackled to the ground, but there was no magic there this time around. While his team ended up falling just short of victory, Mahomes gaudy stat line will surely boost his fantasy manager's scores heading into the final game of Week 2. The young phenom could be involved in his third consecutive shootout in a divisional matchup against Justin Herbert and the Chargers on Sunday.

Produces four TDs in win
Mahomes completed 27 of 36 passes for 337 yards and three touchdowns while adding 18 rushing yards and a TD on five carries in Sunday's 33-29 win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
The 25-year-old superstar has never lost in September in his career, but that streak looked to be in jeopardy when Cleveland took a 22-10 lead into halftime. In fact, Kansas City didn't pull ahead until early in the fourth quarter, when Mahomes hit Tyreek Hill for a 75-yard TD on a one-play drive. Mahomes will face another tough defense in Baltimore in Week 2, but he's proven he can put up big numbers against any opponent.
Aug 27, 2021
Throws two touchdowns
Mahomes completed eight of nine passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns in Friday night's 28-25 preseason win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was his spectacular self in limited action. He connected with Travis Kelce for 28 yards on his first throw of the night, then hit Tyreek Hill for a 35-yard touchdown on his next attempt. The former Super Bowl MVP followed that by finding Blake Bell for a five-yard score on his second and final drive, ending his preseason on a high. After Friday's brief tune-up, Mahomes will now turn his attention toward the regular season, beginning with Week 1's matchup against the Browns.
Aug 20, 2021
Sees extended action Friday
Mahomes completed 10 of 18 passes for 78 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Chiefs' 17-10 preseason win over the Cardinals on Friday night. He also rushed twice for 10 yards.
ANALYSIS
There had been talk of Mahomes playing into the second quarter, and that's exactly what came to fruition. The star signal-caller's last pass ended up in the hands of the Cardinals' Byron Murphy with 8:07 remaining in the first half, and the Chiefs ultimately produced just three points while Mahomes was in the game. Nevertheless, the night brought a solid workload for Mahomes, who may well sit out next Friday night's preseason finale versus the Vikings and take his next snap in a Week 1 showdown against the Browns.
Aug 18, 2021
Could play through second quarter
Coach Andy Reid said Mahomes and other starters will play "a half, somewhere there about" in Friday's preseason game against Arizona, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes played one drive in the preseason opener against San Francisco, completing one of two passes for four yards. He'll see more work in the second exhibition, though it is possible Reid pulls his superstars before many of the other starters.
Aug 15, 2021
Plays one drive Saturday
Mahomes completed one of two passes for four yards in Saturday's 19-16 preseason win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes connected with Travis Kelce for a four-yard gain on the first drive, but his second and final pass of the night was dropped by Mecole Hardman. Most importantly, Mahomes and the rest of the starters left the exhibition game healthy. He likely won't play much more this preseason as he gears up for his fourth year as the Chiefs' starting quarterback. Last season, the Texas Tech product completed 66 percent of his passes for 4,740 yards, 38 touchdowns and six interceptions, and he added 308 yards and two scores on the ground.
Aug 12, 2021
Likely playing Saturday
Coach Andy Reid suggested Mahomes and other starters will play the first quarter in Saturday's preseason opener against San Francisco, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Reid didn't actually mention Mahomes by name, so it's possible the QB could follow a different plan than other starters, though Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce would also figure to make early exits if Mahomes were to do so. In any case, Reid's general plan is to play starters in the first quarter, second-stringers in the second quarter, third-stingers in the third quarter and everyone else in the fourth.

Full go for camp
Mahomes doesn't anticipate having any restrictions at training camp, as his left foot is fully recovered from February surgery, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
This was expected after Mahomes participated in spring practices. The toe/foot that bothered him at the end of last season is no longer an issue, nor is the rash of injuries that plagued Kansas City's offensive line during the Super Bowl. The team lost longtime starting tackles Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz in the offseason, but then made up for it by signing LG Joe Thuney and trading for LT Orlando Brown. The Chiefs even get Laurent Duvernay-Tardif back from the COVID-19 list, so when all is said and done, their O-line could be better than it was last year. At the skill positions, their offense looks much the same as 2020, minus injury-prone wideout Sammy Watkins (now with the Ravens). As always, Mahomes is set up for success.

Taking full reps in OTAs
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Thursday that Mahomes (toe) has been a "full go" in practice during the past week of OTAs, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes sat out Thursday's session, but his absence was apparently a pre-planned maintenance day as part of his recovery program from offseason toe surgery. The quarterback is clearly ahead of schedule in his rehab, and the fact that he hasn't been restricted in practices this spring suggests he'll head into training camp with few limitations, if any. After Mahomes was under siege throughout the Chiefs' loss to the Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV, Kansas City has made upgrading the offensive line a top priority in the offseason. In addition to getting stalwart right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif back after he opted out of the 2020 season, Kansas City signed left guard Joe Thuney to a five-year, $80 million deal and acquired left tackle Orlando Brown via trade with Baltimore.

Ahead of schedule in rehab
Mahomes (toe) is ahead of schedule in his rehab and is expected to participate in offseason OTAs, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It's unclear how much Mahomes will really be expected to do during OTAs, but just the fact the 2019 MVP will even participate at all after undergoing February surgery to repair a torn plantar plate in his left foot certainly appears to be a good sign. The Chiefs drastically overhauled the offensive line this season acquiring five new potential starters in the form or Orlando Brown, Joe Thuney, Kyle Long, Austin Blythe and Mike Remmers while also drafting Creed Humphrey in the second round, all with the intention of keeping Mahomes from suffering a battering like he did in Super Bowl LV when he was hit seven times.

Getting closer to full strength
Mahomes has regained flexibility in his left toe, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes underwent surgery Feb. 10 to repair a torn plantar plate in his left foot, with the expectation of a three-month recovery timeline. With everything seemingly on track, the superstar QB should be healthy for training camp and might even make some on-field appearances at the offseason program or June minicamp.
Apr 8, 2021
Sheds walking boot
Mahomes (toe) was pictured attending the Masters Tournament without a walking boot Thursday, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes is nearing the end of his estimated three-month recovery timeframe for surgery surgery to repair a torn plantar plate in his left foot Feb. 10, and the fact that he's been cleared to shed his walking boot suggests that things are progressing on track. The NFL recently announced that clubs can kick off Phase One of offseason activities April 19, which includes small group workouts at team facilities, so an official update on Mahomes' health could come then. Of course, mandatory minicamps don't take place until June even in a typical year, and the NFL has yet to announce an offseason schedule beyond April 19's events.
Mar 12, 2021
Restructuring to save cap
Mahomes has agreed to restructure his contract with the Chiefs, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes has acquiesced to convert his $21.7 million roster bonus into a signing bonus, a move which will save the Chiefs roughly $17 million against the cap. That will allow Kansas City some much needed flexibility when free agency kicks off, especially considering that the team just cut both starting tackles, Eric Fisher (Achilles) and Mitchell Schwartz (back). Mahomes is currently recovering from February surgery to repair a torn plantar plate in his left foot, but he's expected to be fully healthy for the tentative start of training camp. The star signal-caller should thus have plenty of time to build chemistry with any new faces the Chiefs bring in on offense, though it remains to be seen how the NFL adjusts offseason programs in order to account for COVID-19.
Mar 1, 2021
On track for camp
Mahomes (toe) should need about three months to recover from Feb. 10 surgery to repair a torn plantar plate in his left foot, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes should be healthy before training camp, and Chiefs GM Brett Veach even suggested the QB could be ready for mandatory minicamp, which usually takes place the first or second week of June. It isn't even clear that Mahomes will miss any time on the practice field this spring/summer, as NFL teams likely will need to adjust their offseason programs on account of the coronavirus pandemic. In any case, Mahomes doesn't really need the practice reps, especially when he has continuity with his head coach, offensive coordinator and top pass catchers. Kansas City's offensive line has received a lot of criticism since the Super Bowl, but it's generally been a solid unit in recent years, and both starting tackles -- RT Mitchell Schwartz (back) and LT Eric Fisher (Achilles) -- are recovering from surgery after missing the big game.
Feb 10, 2021
Undergoes successful surgery
Mahomes underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair a torn plantar plate in his left foot, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes picked up a severe case of turf toe in the divisional-round win over the Browns, but he was able to tough it out for the rest of the postseason, albeit with clear limitations to his mobility. Foot specialist Dr. James Anderson performed the surgery, and according to Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star, the All-Pro quarterback is expected to be 100 percent by training camp.
Feb 9, 2021
Scheduled for foot surgery
Mahomes will have surgery Wednesday to repair a torn plantar plate in his left foot, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes apparently had a severe case of turf toe, though he claimed he was approaching full strength the week before the Super Bowl. He limped through parts of Kansas City's three playoff games, often escaping pressure despite being unable to run at full speed. Mahomes isn't likely to participate in offseason practices if the Chiefs have them, but the team does expect him to be ready for Week 1 of the 2021 campaign. Foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson will perform the surgery Wednesday.

Held without a score in ugly loss
Mahomes completed 26-of-49 passes for 270 yards and two interceptions in Kansas City's 31-9 loss to the Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV. He was held without a touchdown for the first time all season.
ANALYSIS
The first double-digit loss of Mahomes' career came with the context of Tampa Bay's pass rush feasting on an O-line depleted of both starting tackles. He also battled a number of dropped passes, including two would-be touchdowns (to Tyreek Hill and Darrel Williams) the combination of which simply proved insurmountable. Mahomes was also still clearly hobbled by the turf toe injury he suffered during the AFC divisional-round game Buffalo, and for which he's expected to undergo offseason surgery. Despite the lopsided loss to Tampa Bay, Mahomes put together yet another outstanding campaign in 2020, as he compiled 4,740 passing yards, 38 touchdowns and six interceptions, in addition to 308 rushing yards and another two scores on the ground. Nor, of course, can it be discounted that Mahomes has now led the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowls. With top offensive weapons Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce both returning next season, and his offensive line set to get back to full health, Mahomes will no doubt once again be i

Offseason toe surgery likely on tap
Mahomes will continue to play through a turf toe injury to his left foot in Sunday's Super Bowl 55 matchup with the Buccaneers, but he's expected to require offseason surgery to address the issue, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Though he told Adam Teicher of ESPN.com earlier in the week that he feels "pretty close to 100 percent" and enters the Super Bowl without an injury designation, Mahomes has still been affected by the toe issue since initially picking up the injury in the Chiefs' win over the Browns in the divisional round. Mahomes lacked his usual mobility outside the pocket during the Chiefs' AFC Championship Game victory over the Bills, rushing five times for five yards. The 25-year-old still masterfully dissected the Bills defense through the air (29 for 38 for 325 yards and three touchdowns), but the Buccaneers could present a greater challenge to the quarterback. Mahomes will be without his top left tackle (Eric Fisher, Achilles) and right tackle (Mitchell Schwartz, back) for the Super Bowl, which could make him vulnerable to pressure from star edge rushers Jason Pierre-Paul and Shaquil Barrett.
Feb 2, 2021
Not expecting trouble with toe
Mahomes said his toe is "pretty close to 100 percent" and shouldn't be a problem in the Super Bowl, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes injured his toe in the divisional-round win over Cleveland, visibly limping multiple times before a concussion forced him out of the game. He bounced back to throw for 325 yards and three TDs in the AFC Championship Game, but he had just one rush attempt (for nine yards) that wasn't a kneel down. It sounds like Mahomes could be more of a rushing threat in the Super Bowl, where the Chiefs hope to get Sammy Watkins (calf) back in the lineup to face the Bucs.
Jan 24, 2021
Reaches second straight Super Bowl
Mahomes completed 29 of 38 pass attempts for 325 yards and three touchdowns, adding five carries for five yards during Sunday's 38-24 AFC Championship Game win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
By virtue of Kansas City's 22-17 win over Cleveland in the divisional round, Mahomes garnered the opportunity to become the first quarterback in NFL history to start three conference title games in his first four seasons in the league. Mahomes had to overcome a case of turf toe, and most prudently, a stint in the NFL's concussion protocol to earn his 17th start of the season. After exiting in the third quarter of last Sunday's win over the Browns, Mahomes proved capable of doing just that. Kansas City remained without starting right tackle Mitchell Schwartz (back) for the AFC Championship Game, while Eric Fisher (Achilles) departed during the contest and was unable to return. Still, Buffalo generated only one sack of Mahomes, as the Chiefs were 5-for-6 in converting red-zone opportunities into TDs. The 25-year-old gets his second Super Bowl appearance in as many seasons as he prepares for a fifth career game against Tom Brady. Mahomes is 2-2 in head-to-head matchups against Brady, who will make the 10th Super

Playing Sunday, but bothered by toe
Mahomes doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bills, but his mobility could be compromised while he contends with a turf toe issue on his left foot, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Before he exited last week's divisional-round win over the Browns with the head injury, Mahomes didn't look to be moving around at 100 percent, though he still avoided taking a sack and scrambled three times for 14 yards and a touchdown. Mahomes was able to take most of the Chiefs' snaps in practice this week and eventually cleared the NFL's five-step concussion protocol, but since most of those sessions were walk-throughs, he didn't put much strain on the toe in question. For his part, Mahomes doesn't seem to believe his toe is a major concern, saying that the injury has "gotten a lot better every single day." The Chiefs still plan to have Mahomes meet with a foot specialist after the season to determine whether he'll need offseason surgery to provide a more permanent fix for the toe.
Jan 22, 2021
Cleared from concussion protocol
Mahomes (head/toe) has been cleared from the concussion protocol and will play in Sunday's game against the Bills, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes revealed the big news about 15 minutes after coach Andy Reid told reporters that the QB had one step remaining to clear the protocol. The star quarterback says he hasn't dealt with any concussion symptoms this week, also mentioning that his toe injury feels much better, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic. Mahomes said he'll "go out there and be myself" in the AFC Championship Game against Buffalo.
Jan 22, 2021
One step away from clearance
Coach Andy Reid said Friday that Mahomes has made it through four of five steps in the concussion protocol, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes took the majority of practice snaps Wednesday and Thursday, with the Chiefs listing him as a limited participant in both sessions. Regardless of his classification on the Friday injury report, Mahomes will need clearance from an independent neurological consultant and the Chiefs' physician before he can play in the AFC Championship Game against Buffalo on Sunday. Chad Henne will fill in at quarterback if Mahomes isn't able to play.
Jan 21, 2021
Officially limited Thursday
Mahomes (concussion/toe) was officially listed as limited at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Though Mahomes continues to be listed as limited by the team, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com notes that coach Andy Reid said that the star QB took the majority of signal-caller snaps during Thursday's practice. Friday's final injury report of the week will reveal whether Mahomes draws an injury designation for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bills, or is fully cleared to play by virtue of completely passing through the NFL's concussion protocol.
Jan 21, 2021
Taking most of first-team snaps
The Chiefs seemingly expect Mahomes (concussion) to be ready for Sunday's game against Buffalo, as he received the majority of first-team snaps during Thursday's practice, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes also took most of the snaps Wednesday, when he was initially listed as a full participant before the Chiefs downgraded him to LP in accordance with rules for the concussion protocol. He'll still need to pass through the final stages of the protocol to gain clearance for the AFC Championship Game, so it's possible the Chiefs list him as limited when they release their Thursday injury report.
Jan 20, 2021
Listed as limited Wednesday
Kansas City's Wednesday injury report now lists Mahomes (concussion/toe) as a limited participant.
ANALYSIS
Per Adam Teicher of ESPN.com, the team amended its injury report to reflect that Mahomes is still in the NFL's concussion protocol. That said, Teicher points out that coach Any Reid previously indicated that the QB was able to take all the snaps in what is being described as a lighter practice. In any case, Mahomes' participation Wednesday, in any capacity, is a step in the right direction toward gaining medical clearance for Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bills.
Jan 20, 2021
Listed as full practice participant
The Chiefs list Mahomes (concussion/toe) as a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
An earlier report suggested Mahomes was a limited participant, but he apparently showed enough to get an FP designation on the Chiefs' official practice report. He's off to a good start in his bid to be cleared for the AFC Championship Game, with his participation Wednesday suggesting he may have already made it to the fourth step of the NFL's five-step concussion protocol. Coach Andy Reid said Thursday's practice will be the important one for evaluating his injured players -- a list that includes Mahomes, RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) and WR Sammy Watkins (calf).
Jan 20, 2021
Opens week as limited participant
Mahomes (concussion/toe) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, ESPN.com's Adam Teicher reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes reportedly took all the QB snaps, though it wasn't a physically demanding practice. He's off to a good start in his bid to be cleared for the AFC Championship Game, with his participation Wednesday -- even in a limited capacity -- suggesting he may already be on the fourth step of the NFL's five-step concussion protocol. Coach Andy Reid said Thursday's practice will be the important one for evaluating his injured players -- a list that includes Mahomes, RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle) and WR Sammy Watkins (calf).
Jan 20, 2021
Takes all the snaps
Mahomes (concussion/toe) took all the snaps at Wednesday's practice, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It isn't clear if he'll be listed as a full participant or limited. Either way, Mahomes' availability for the AFC Championship Game will depend on his ability to clear the concussion protocol, rather than his practice participation throughout the week. He's also listed with a toe injury, but it isn't believed to threaten his availability for Sunday.
Jan 19, 2021
Expected to practice Wednesday
Mahomes (concussion/toe) is expected to practice Wednesday, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
ESPN's Adam Schefter notes that Mahomes cleared "some big steps" Monday, but the QB -- who is also dealing with a toe injury -- is still in the NFL's concussion protocol at this stage. While Mahomes' toe issue is being downplayed by coach Andy Reid, the star signal-caller's status for Sunday's AFC Championship game against the Bills has yet to be solidified. If Mahomes isn't cleared for the contest, Chad Henne would start at quarterback for Kansas City in his place.
Jan 19, 2021
Making progress
Though Mahomes cleared "some big steps" Monday, he remains in the NFL's concussion protocol, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
While that's a step in the right direction for the star QB, Schefter notes that "it's too early to say" that Mahomes will "definitely" be cleared to play in Sunday's AFC Championship game. Further context with regard to Mahomes' progress will arrive no later than Wednesday, once Kansas City re-takes the practice field.
Jan 18, 2021
Toe injury not a concern
Coach Andy Reid said Monday that Mahomes (concussion) "will be ok" in reference to his toe injury, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was evaluated in the medical tent due to a toe injury in the first quarter of the AFC divisional-round win over the Browns, but he managed to tough out the issue before later suffering a concussion in the third quarter. Reid responded with less direct optimism when asked about Mahomes' chances of being able to practice prior to Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Bills, saying "that's for [the medical staff] to decide," per Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star. In order to suit up against Buffalo, Mahomes will first need to fully clear the league's five-step protocol for concussions, the final phase of which includes meeting with an independent neurologist, but it sounds like he'll at least have his mobility intact if given the green light to play.
Jan 17, 2021
Optimism after concussion diagnosis
Coach Andy Reid said after Sunday's divisional-round win against the Browns that Mahomes (concussion) is "doing great right now" and "passed all of the deals he had to pass,"Jeff Darlington of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Chiefs lost Mahomes in the middle of the third quarter, when had difficulty getting to his feet and clearly was wobbly as he was assisted to the sideline. After a visit to the locker room, subsequent testing revealed a concussion diagnosis, meaning the quarterback will need to pass through the protocol for head injuries in order to suit up in the AFC Championship Game. According to Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star, Reid noted the team will "see how he is tomorrow," but there may not be a sense of his progress through the aforementioned protocol until Kansas City reconvenes for practice Wednesday. In Mahomes' stead, Chad Henne ended up leading Kansas City to a 22-17 victory and will be the starter under center next Sunday against the Bills if the former is unable to go.
Jan 17, 2021
Won't return to Sunday's game
Mahomes (concussion) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's divisional-round game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes has officially been diagnosed with a concussion after leaving the game in the third quarter. Chad Henne will finish the playoff game under center. Prior to his exit, Mahomes completed 21 of 30 passes for 255 yards and a touchdown, and he added three carries for 14 yards and a score.
Jan 17, 2021
Being evaluated for concussion
Mahomes is being evaluated for a concussion during Sunday's divisional-round game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
This news was expected, as Mahomes was wobbly as he was helped to the sidelines in the third quarter. Chad Henne will take over under center for the Chiefs.
Jan 17, 2021
Leaves Sunday's contest
Mahomes (undisclosed) went to the locker room during the third quarter of Sunday's divisional-round game against the Browns, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes struggled to get to his feet and was visibly wobbly as he was assisted to the sidelines by the Chiefs' medical staff. Earlier in the contest, he appeared to hurt his toe, getting evaluated in the sideline tent at least one time, but he continued to gut it out. The nature of the current concern is unknown, but Mahomes may be under evaluation for a concussion. Chad Henne took over the reins of the offense for Kansas City.
Jan 13, 2021
Ready for divisional round
Mahomes is not listed on Wednesday's injury report, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes rested Kansas City's regular-season finale against the Chargers and he then got the benefit of a first-round playoff bye, so he'll be fresh for Sunday's home matchup against the rising Browns. Opposing cornerbacks Denzel Ward (illness) and Kevin Johnson (illness) both came of the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, so Mahomes will face the challenge of taking on a fully healthy secondary while also avoiding a pass rush led by Myles Garrett (shoulder).
Jan 3, 2021
Inactive Sunday
Mahomes is officially inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes will sit this one out, with Kansas City having secured a first-round playoff bye. Filling in for him as the team's starting QB on Sunday will be Chad Henne, with Matt Moore set to serve as his backup in Week 17.
Dec 30, 2020
Won't play against Chargers
Coach Andy Reid said Wednesday that Mahomes will sit Sunday's regular-season finale against the Chargers, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes will get a week of rest with the Chiefs already having secured the AFC's No. 1 playoff seed, allowing Chad Henne to draw the start. Reid said he'll sit some other regular starters at well, so key players such as Tyreek Hill (hamstring), Travis Kelce and Chris Jones also seem destined to miss the regular-season finale and instead look ahead to the postseason.
Dec 28, 2020
May sit Week 17
Coach Andy Reid said Monday that "there's a good chance" Chad Henne starts Sunday's game against the Chargers rather than Mahomes, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
The 14-1 Chiefs have already clinched the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs by virtue of last weekend's win over the Falcons, so the team could realistically opt to not risk Mahomes' health in a meaningless regular-season finale. It also seems plausible that Kansas City's other key starters could receive an extra week of rest. If the star quarterback indeed sits Week 17, he'll wrap up the 2020 regular season with 4,740 passing yards and an impressive 38:6 TD:INT.
Dec 27, 2020
Clinches No. 1 seed with two-TD day
Mahomes completed 24 of 44 pass attempts for 278 yards, throwing two touchdowns and one interception while gaining 21 rushing yards on three carries during Sunday's 17-14 win against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Despite a loss, Atlanta's defense should give itself a pat on the back for a marvelous job in containing the explosive Mahomes. The reigning Super Bowl MVP was held to a season-low 79.6 passer rating by the Falcons, while Kansas City's 17 points fell well below the team's previous 2020 single-game worst of 22. Though it was a relatively quiet fantasy week by Mahomes' standards, the 25-year-old was still capable of delivering Andy Reid his first 14-win regular season over 22 years as an NFL head coach. The Chiefs now roll into a Week 17 matchup against the Chargers having clinched home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. Mahomes may therefore be sidelined as KC aims to keep the star quarterback healthy for another run at the Lombardi Trophy.
Dec 20, 2020
Three more TDs in Big Easy
Mahomes completed 26 of 47 passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 32-29 win over the Saints. He also rushed for 37 yards on seven carries.
ANALYSIS
While his passing yards total was below his usual standards, and he committed two fumbles (losing one) while facing consistent pressure from the New Orleans pass rush, Mahomes still picked his spots and threw at least three TDs for the sixth time this season. He'll take a scintillating 36:5 TD:INT into Week 16's meeting with a Falcons secondary that just gave up 390 yards to Tom Brady.
Dec 13, 2020
Bounces back after slow start
Mahomes completed 24 of 34 passes for 393 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions in Sunday's 33-27 win over the Dolphins. He added nine yards on five rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was picked off on a tipped screen pass attempt to end Kansas City's opening drive, then took a 30-yard sack on third down to cap the next possession before being intercepted again on the Chiefs' third drive. Despite the slow start, he still finished the first half with 172 yards and a touchdown, which was scored by Travis Kelce from six yards out to give the Chiefs a 14-10 halftime lead. Mahomes hit Tyreek Hill on a 44-yard deep ball to stretch Kansas City's lead on the first possession of the second half and ultimately did enough to lead his team to victory in an uncharacteristically error-filled performance. The star quarterback will need to clean up the turnovers in Week 15, as the Chiefs face a much tougher road test in New Orleans.
Dec 7, 2020
Is Denver Mahomes' Kryptonite?
Mahomes completed 25 of 40 pass attempts for 318 yards and a touchdown, adding 26 more yards on four carries in a 22-16 win over the Broncos on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes and Co. were able to will their way to a narrow victory over the now 4-8 Broncos, but things were looking bleak until the fourth quarter of what should have been a lopsided victory on paper. The 25-year-old phenom has only had two games this season in which he was limited to single-digit scores, and both of those have come against the sub-.500 Broncos. Denver's defense is no pushover, but Mahomes has seemed to dismantle any top-tier defensive unit put in his way. The good news for the signal caller's managers is that the Chiefs won't have to face the Broncos again this fantasy season. Next week's opponent, the Miami Dolphins, are no pushovers defensively either, but Mahomes is about as "must-start" as they come these days.

Eye-popping numbers in win
Mahomes completed 37 of 49 passes for 462 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Chiefs' 27-24 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. He also rushed four times for 28 yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
The reigning Super Bowl MVP was on fire from the opening gun, posting a 229-yard tally in the first quarter alone. Mahomes comfortably got there with the help of touchdown strikes of 75 and 44 yards to Tyreek Hill in that opening period, and while less prolific in the second half after Kansas City had built up a lead, he still connected with Hill one final time from 20 yards away at the 7:04 mark of the third quarter. Mahomes then gained some valuable yards with his legs on the Chiefs' final clock-killing drive, capping off what turned out to be relatively hard-fought victorious duel with the legendary Tom Brady. Mahomes has now thrown for over 400 yards in two of his last four games, and he's recorded no fewer than 348 passing yards in any contest during that span. Moreover, he'll head into a Week 13 Sunday night divisional battle against the Broncos with a four-game multi-touchdown streak in tow as well.

Unstoppable in comeback victory
Mahomes completed 34 of 45 pass attempts for 348 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 35-31 win over the Raiders. He contributed 16 more yards on four rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes stat line would suggest that he was able to carve up the Raiders' secondary with ease -- as he does to many defenses around the league -- but the Chiefs' phenom was consistently evading pressure from Oakland's front. The 25-year-old's supernatural ability to throw the ball across his body with an off-balanced stance to avoid would-be tacklers was put on display on a multitude of occasions, almost always resulting in the ball hitting his receiver in the hands for big chunk gains. The only noticeable blemish was a red-zone interception that was likely the result of Demarcus Robinson breaking the wrong direction on what should have been an out pattern. Mahomes capped off another clutch victory with a two-minute drill to put his squad up for good against a formidable Oakland team. The stellar outing put the signal caller above the 3,000-yard mark for the year. Next up for Mahomes and the Chiefs is a showdown between potential MVP candidates when they travel to Tampa Bay to face Tom Brady and the Buccaneer

Another prolific performance
Mahomes completed 30 of 45 passes for 372 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Chiefs' 33-31 win over the Panthers on Sunday. He also rushed twice for no gain.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers, which got Christian McCaffrey (ankle) back in action Sunday, gave the Chiefs a lot more trouble than many would have anticipated, which forced coach Andy Reid to keep his foot on the gas. That paid off for Mahomes, wo was able to eclipse the 300-yard mark for the fifth time this season and throw at least four scoring passes for the second time in as many weeks. Mahomes helped Kansas City overcome an early 14-3 deficit with a one-yard touchdown toss to DeMarcus Robinson, and he came alive in the second half by hitting paydirt with Clyde Edwards-Helaire on one occasion and Tyreek Hill in two other instances to complete the comeback. Mahomes will look to forge together a third straight prolific effort in an AFC West showdown against the Raiders in Week 10.

Tosses five TDs in blowout win
Mahomes completed 31 of 42 passes for 416 yards and five touchdowns in Sunday's 35-9 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes came out of the gate on fire, completing all five of his passes for 85 yards on the opening drive, which he capped with a 30-yard touch-pass touchdown to Mecole Hardman. The Chiefs needed a fake punt to keep their next drive alive, but Mahomes took advantage of the successful trick play with a 36-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill on the very next play. That hot start was only the tip of the iceberg for the superstar quarterback, who added touchdowns to Travis Kelce (three yards), Demarcus Robinson (26) and Hill again (41) before handing off to backup Chad Henne for mop-up duty. Mahomes matched his passing touchdown total from the previous three games combined while throwing more than two touchdowns for only the third time this season. He's capable of heating up in a hurry, though, and will look to build on this effort in Week 9 against the Panthers.

Pulled for backup in laugher
Mahomes went 15-for-23 passing with 200 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions during Sunday's 43-16 win against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes didn't exactly have to take over in this one, as Kansas City rolled the Broncos with additional TDs on both special teams and defense. Thanks to a powerful Chiefs running game, as well as a defense that ranks No. 2 in takeaways (13), Mahomes ended the month of October exceeding 30 pass attempts in just one of four games. Though he was efficient on those opportunities with a 63.6 percent completion rate and a 7:1 TD:INT, the mold of Kansas City's team has altered in a way that he isn't currently being asked to put up gaudy numbers weekly. He may do so anyway in Week 8, taking on the winless Jets at Arrowhead Stadium.
Oct 19, 2020
Tosses two touchdowns
Mahomes completed 21 of 26 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns in Monday's 26-17 win over the Bills. He also rushed 10 times for 36 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes dealt with constant rain during Monday's game, yet only failed to connect on a handful of his passes. Although the conditions contributed toward a season low in attempts, so too did tailback Clyde Edwards-Helaire's success on the ground, as the rookie went for 161 yards on 26 carries. While Mahomes also chipped in with his first double-digit carry total this term, the quarterback still found tight end Travis Kelce for a pair of touchdown tosses. In doing so, Mahomes brought his season tally to 15 TD passes versus just one interception, getting the Chiefs back in the win column as they'll now prepare for Sunday's game at the Broncos.
Oct 11, 2020
Eclipses 300 yards in loss
Mahomes completed 22 of 43 passes for 340 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Chiefs' 40-32 loss to the Raiders on Sunday. He also rushed six times for 21 yards and another score.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes struggled with his completion rate as the game wore on, with the Raiders doing a very good job overall against the quarterback's high-powered collection of weapons. Mahomes did lose Sammy Watkins to a hamstring injury during the contest and also saw a first-quarter touchdown to Tyreek Hill called back due to penalty. Ultimately, the fact he was unexpectedly put in the trail position helped Mahomes eclipse the 300-yard mark for the third time in the last four games. The 2018 NFL MVP also has multiple passing touchdowns in each game and will look to help Kansas City atone for the surprising divisional loss in a Week 6 Monday evening road matchup against the Bills.
Oct 5, 2020
Tosses two touchdowns in win
Mahomes completed 19 of 29 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns in Monday night's 26-10 win over the Patriots. He also rushed eight times for 28 yards.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes didn't light up the box score like usual, but he still managed a couple scores against the well-coached New England defense. However, neither of the quarterback's touchdown tosses actually traveled past the line of scrimmage, as both were six-yard, shovel-style scores in the second half. To his credit, though, Mahomes also made an impact on the ground, boosting his production overall. While it wasn't a vintage performance from Mahomes, he'll still be pleased by maintaining his team's unbeaten record and his turnover-free start. Next up is a divisional clash with the Raiders in Week 5.
Oct 4, 2020
Game scheduled for Monday
Mahomes and the Chiefs are currently slated to play the Patriots on Monday night at 7:05 ET, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chiefs' latest round of point of care COVID-19 tests came up clear, paving the way for the NFL to proceed with a Monday night rescheduling of the contest, which was originally slated to take place Sunday afternoon.
Oct 3, 2020
Game postponed for now
Mahomes and the Chiefs will have their matchup against the Patriots postponed after players from both sides tested positive for COVID-19. The NFL hopes to reschedule the game for Monday or Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
It's entirely possible the NFL could simply choose to make this a de-facto bye week for both the Chiefs and Patriots after Cam Newton and Chiefs practice squad QB Jordan Ta'amu both tested positive for COVID-19 much in the same way they did with the Steelers/Titans, but the plan at least as of now is to have the teams play either Monday or Tuesday. That would mean the contest still constitutes as a Week 4 matchup. There is a precedent set regarding games occurring after a player tested positive as Falcons cornerback A.J. Terrell was moved to the COVID-19/reserve list last week Saturday, yet the game still took place after players were thoroughly tested based on NFL guidelines.

Brilliant in big win
Mahomes completed 31 of 42 passes for 385 yards and four touchdowns in Monday night's 34-20 win over the Ravens. He also rushed four times for 26 yards and another score.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes brought out his bag of tricks, finding the end zone in a variety of ways. The quarterback started by scampering in from three yards on the ground, then threw an underhand shovel pass to fullback Anthony Sherman for his second score. For his next acts, Mahomes connected with speedy wideouts Tyreke Hill and Mecole Hardman on superb touchdown tosses prior to halftime, showing his signature arm strength and touch. To cap things off, the reigning Super Bowl MVP found his starting left tackle, Eric Fisher, of all people for a two-yard exclamation point on the night. Through three games, Mahomes now sports nine passing touchdowns versus zero interceptions, which along with Monday's win puts him in great standing ahead of another AFC showdown versus the Patriots in Week 4.
Sep 20, 2020
Leads come-from-behind win
Mahomes completed 27 of 47 pass attempts for two touchdowns and added 54 yards on six carries during Sunday's 23-20 win over the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes got off to an extremely slow start as the typically prolific Chiefs offense was stopped on four of five possessions in the first half. He turned it up a notch in the second half and helped his team draw level with a 54-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill in the fourth quarter. Mahomes then led a methodical 13-play drive in overtime to set up the winning field goal, completing crucial passes to Hill and Clyde Edwards-Helaire to set it up. The superstar signal caller now has five touchdowns and 513 yards with no interceptions through two games and will look to continue his excellent start next Monday night in a tough matchup with the Ravens.
Sep 10, 2020
Throws for three TDs in opener
Mahomes completed 24 of 32 passes for 211 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Chiefs' 34-20 win over the Texans on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Although the defending champs put up a typical point total for their high-powered offense, it wasn't exactly a trademark Mahomes performance. The 2018 league MVP was highly efficient while completing 75.0 percent of his passes, but he averaged a relatively modest 6.6 yards per attempt and put up his third-lowest yardage total for a game in which he played all four quarters thus far in his career. Mahomes also notably didn't have an official rushing attempt for the first time since Week 11 of last season against the Chargers. In what may be a harbinger of a more run-heavy offense this season, Andy Reid opted to give rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire a robust 25 carries in his NFL debut, but Mahomes still found a way to reward fantasy managers by firing a trio of passing scores to Travis Kelce, Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill. The prolific gunslinger and his teammates will now have extended time to gear up for a Week 2 divisional showdown against the Chargers on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Mega-extension confirmed
The Chiefs have confirmed that Mahomes has been signed to a 10-year extension that is slated to keep the QB with the franchise for the next 12 seasons.
ANALYSIS
Per ESPN.com, Mahomes' extension is reportedly worth $450 million, while the injury guarantee in his deal is $140 million. Meanwhile, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network suggests that the pact is worth $503 million, with the star signal caller getting $477 million "in guarantee mechanisms and gives the ability for Mahomes to have outs if the guarantee mechanisms aren't exercised." Either way, Mahomes, who turns 25 in September, is now in line to have the largest contract in American professional sports.
Jul 6, 2020
Extension tops $400 million
The 10-year contract extension signed by Mahomes on Monday is reportedly worth over $400 million, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With that, Mahomes, who was the 2018 NFL MVP, is under contract with the Chiefs through the 2031 season, while the exact parameters and cap ramifications of his lucrative extension have yet to be outlined. In any case, the 2017 first-rounder, who turns 25 in September, is now slated to remain the face of his team's franchise for years to come. After two full seasons as a pro starter, the Super Bowl LIV MVP has established himself as one of the league's top players, in both real and fantasy terms.

Gets 10-year extension
Mahomes is signing a 10-year extension with the Chiefs, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The initial report doesn't provide details beyond the length, but there's no doubt it will be the largest contract in NFL history for both total value and guaranteed money. Mahomes is entering his fourth pro season and will turn 25 in September.
Apr 30, 2020
Fifth-year option extended
Mahomes had his fifth-year option extended Thursday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
There might not be a more obvious fifth-year extension in the history of the NFL than this one, but the Chiefs filed the paperwork to extend their Super Bowl MVP. It seems entirely likely a historic multi-year contract is on the horizon, as general manager Clark Hunt hinted the team would like to come to a long-term extension with their star quarterback following the 2020 NFL Draft.
Apr 25, 2020
Extension imminent?
Chiefs general manager Clark Hunt suggested a possible extension for Mahomes could come following the 2020 NFL Draft, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not particularly surprising the Chiefs want to lock up a long-term extension with their Super Bowl MVP and transcendent quarterback, but it should be telling Hunt is even mentioning a certain time frame. While making Mahomes' extension "a priority" after the draft seems reasonable, a likely lofty sticker price could slow the negotiations somewhat. The 24-year-old is not expected to hold out in any way regardless of what type of conversations occur throughout the rest of the offseason.
Feb 25, 2020
Not expected to need offseason procedure
Coach Andy Reid relayed Tuesday that he doesn't believe Mahomes will require offseason surgery after dislocating his kneecap this past October, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports. "Right now he looks good," Reid said of the QB, who capped his 2019 season by earning Super Bowl LIV MVP honors. "He was out throwing with Dez (Bryant) the other day so he looked like he was slinging it around pretty good. I think he's fine."
ANALYSIS
Given that Mahomes was able to play through his aches and pains as last year's campaign rolled along, this isn't especially surprising, but Reid's words do at least reinforce that Mahomes' offseason appears to be going fine at this stage. Heading into the 2019 season, Mahomes was the clear-cut No. 1 ranked fantasy QB. While he retains elite status in advance of the 2020 slate, he's now joined by fellow signal caller Lamar Jackson as a top-tier option at his position.

Helps lead comeback win in SB LIV
Mahomes completed 26 of 42 passes for 286 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions during the Chiefs' 31-20 win over the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV on Sunday. He also rushed nine times for 29 yards and another score and fumbled twice, but both were recovered by the offense.
ANALYSIS
It was far from easy, but Mahomes managed to overcome yet more postseason struggles to help the Chiefs notch their third consecutive comeback win. His performance, while at times rocky, was enough to make him the youngest player to secure Super Bowl MVP honors, and Kansas City also became the first team in NFL history to manage three consecutive comeback victories in the postseason. Mahomes made poor throws on both of his interceptions, each coming on a pass attempt to Tyreek Hill. The 24-year-old ultimately made up for his mistakes when it mattered most, however, leading a pair of fourth-quarter scoring drives that culminated in one- and five-yard touchdown passes to Travis Kelce and Damien Williams, respectively, allowing the Chiefs to overcome a 10-point deficit. The fantastic finish was a fitting cap on another spectacular campaign for the 2018 NFL MVP, one during which he threw for 4,031 yards and 26 touchdowns across 14 games. A record-breaking extension is naturally on the horizon for Mahomes, who's s

Accounts for four TDs vs. Titans
Mahomes completed 23 of 35 pass attempts for 294 yards and three touchdowns Sunday against the Titans. He also carried eight times for 53 yards and a touchdown in the 35-24 win.
ANALYSIS
Although the Tennessee defense had been rolling, it was no mach for Mahomes, who averaged a healthy 8.4 yards per attempt while completing 66 percent of his passes. He connected with Tyreek Hill for two touchdowns and added a spectacular 27-yard rushing score before capping his day off with a 60-yard strike to Sammy Watkins in the fourth quarter. Mahomes has been outstanding in two playoff games this postseason, accounting for nine total touchdowns, zero turnovers and 106 rushing yards, in addition to plenty of passing yards. Both his potential Super Bowl opponents boast strong defenses, but he seems more than capable of producing regardless of who lines up across from him.

Marvelous second quarter spurs win
Mahomes completed 23 of 35 pass attempts for 321 yards and five touchdowns, while also picking up 53 rushing yards on seven carries during Sunday's 51-31 AFC divisional playoff win against Houston.
ANALYSIS
The reigning MVP orchestrated a trademark comeback effort after Kansas City fell into a 24-0 hole, joining Washington's Doug Williams as the only quarterbacks in postseason history with four TD passes in a single quarter, as the Chiefs rattled off 28 second-quarter points and a total of 41 unanswered points Sunday. With the convincing come-from-behind victory, Kansas City became the first team in NFL history to win by 20-plus points after trailing by at least 20 in a playoff game, while Mahomes established postseason career bests in both passing yards and TDs. He owns an impressive 31:5 TD:INT on the season and is throwing for more than 290 passing yards per game, heading into an AFC Championship Game matchup against a Tennessee defense that has forced three interceptions and allowed just one TD throw thus far in the playoffs.
Nov 10, 2019
Good to go Sunday
As expected, Mahomes (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Titans, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Chiefs proceeded with extreme caution with their star QB and had "four different specialists from across the country examine" images of Mahomes' knee. It was determined that the signal-caller was ready to play and that enough time had elapsed to minimize his chances of a setback. Mahomes' return to the lineup should provide a nice boost going forward for the fantasy prospects of Kansas City's top receiving weapons Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins.
Nov 8, 2019
Doesn't expect to be limited in return to action
Mahomes (kneecap), who doesn't carry a Week 10 injury designation after practicing fully all week, feels like he won't be limited physically in his slated return to the lineup Sunday against the Titans, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports. "That's what we tested out this week especially," Mahomes noted Friday. "We put me on the run, and I threw it across my body and did all the stuff I've grown to do as I've been in the NFL and my whole career. I didn't have any pain. I was still able to do it. I wanted to make sur
ANALYSIS
Mahomes hasn't suited up up since dislocating his right kneecap Oct. 17, but he's slated to start Sunday's contest, barring any unexpected setbacks, which will send Matt Moore -- who had been filling in at QB for the Chiefs -- back to a reserve role. Additionally, the return of Mahomes should boost the Week 10 (and beyond) fantasy prospects of key passing weapons Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins.
Nov 8, 2019
Slated to start Sunday
Mahomes (knee) is on track to start Sunday's game against the Titans, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Andy Reid noted Friday that Mahomes -- who practiced fully this week -- will return to action Sunday "unless something happens" between now and game time. With that in mind, we'd still recommend monitoring the situation, but as things stand, Mahomes -- who suffered a dislocated right kneecap Oct. 17 -- will be back in action this weekend.
Nov 6, 2019
Listed as full practice participant
Mahomes (knee) was listed as a full practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
That's a major step forward for the QB, but Adam Teicher of ESPN.com noted earlier in the day that Mahomes was "still second in the QB line behind Matt Moore" during individual drills at practice Wednesday. At this stage, the Chiefs plan to increase Mahomes workload this week and see how his knee responds. With regard to the signal-caller's status for Sunday's game against the Titans, coach Andy Reid noted "we're not going to put him out there unless it's safe." Mahomes' full practice participation therefore doesn't necessarily ensure that he'll start this weekend, but it does signal that he continues to trend in the right direction to that end.
Nov 4, 2019
Week 10 status TBD
Though Mahomes (knee) is trending in the right direction, the Chiefs will continue to proceed deliberately this week while they assess the QB's chances of returning to action in Week 10, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
There's an obvious downside to rushing the star QB back to action, so if there's any concerns that he's not quite ready, or might be more susceptible to a setback should he return in haste, it wouldn't surprise us to see the team err on the side of caution. Additionally, Matt Moore's solid play in relief of Mahomes makes such an approach even more feasible. We should get a better idea of Mahomes' odds of returning this weekend once it's revealed who takes first-team QB reps at practice Wednesday.
Nov 3, 2019
Siding with caution
The Chiefs were told by outside doctors that Mahomes (kneecap) would have a 40 percent chance of reinjuring himself if came back within 21 days of his injury, Fox's Jay Glazer reported on their morning pregame show.
ANALYSIS
With Mahomes on Day 17 after the injury, the Chiefs erred on the side of caution, even with Mahomes pushing to return even with that information.
Nov 3, 2019
Not expected to play
Mahomes (knee) is not expected to play Sunday against the Vikings, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
ANALYSIS
Matt Moore gets another start as a result. Downgrade Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and the rest of the Chiefs skill players accordingly.
Nov 2, 2019
Could play in Week 9
Mahomes (knee) has a "chance to play" Sunday against the Vikings, Ed Werder of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
This appears to counter an earlier report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network which suggested the star quarterback was unlikely to play Sunday, although both sources suggested Mahomes' status will depend on how well he's able to move prior to the 1 p.m. EST kickoff. Matt Moore and newly activated Chad Henne (ankle) will be available in the event, Mahomes, who dislocated his right knee cap Oct. 17, is eventually ruled out.
Nov 2, 2019
Not expected to start
Mahomes (knee) is not expected to start Sunday against the Vikings, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes is expected to work out on the field prior to the game, but it seems unlikely the electric third-year quarterback will play Sunday, reinforced by the fact the Chiefs activated Chad Henne (ankle) from injured reserve with the intent to backup Matt Moore. While the initial timeline following Mahomes' injury waffled anywhere from two-to-five weeks of absence, it certainly appears as if the 2018 MVP is not expected to be out for a lengthy amount of time given Saturday's news.
Nov 1, 2019
Listed as questionable for Week 9
Mahomes (knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings after practicing in a limited fashion all week.
ANALYSIS
At this stage, we don't have a good read on whether he's truly questionable or more close to doubtful, but Mahomes evidently has a shot to defy the odds and suit up this weekend. Look for plenty of coverage pertaining his status leading up to game-time, which fortunately arrives at 1:00 ET on Sunday, which is a break for fantasy managers hoping to use him in Week 9 lineups.
Oct 31, 2019
Remains limited at practice
Mahomes (knee) remained limited at Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Per Adam Teicher of ESPN.com, Mahomes was once "again was second in the QB line behind Matt Moore" on Thursday. That he's out there at all is very encouraging, but we'd still be surprised if Mahomes is cleared to play in Sunday's game against the Vikings. Friday's injury report should provide clarity on that front.
Oct 25, 2019
Out this week, but progressing
Though Mahomes (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Packers, coach Andy Reid suggested that the QB is "close" to being able to play, ESPN's Adam Teicher reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes, who suffered a dislocated kneecap on Oct. 17, was originally expected to miss at least three weeks, but favorable MRI results were followed by his limited participation at practice this week, offering hope that he could beat that timetable. With regard to this weekend's game, Reid noted that Mahomes "just wasn't ready right now. That was our decision, not his. He wanted to play right after it happened. He just needs a little bit of time here." It remains to be seen if the QB has a realistic chance of returning in Week 9, but that once-remote possibility can't be ruled out, given how will he's been progressing. In his absence Sunday, Matt Moore will draw the starting nod for the Chiefs.
Oct 24, 2019
Making progress
Mahomes (knee) "looked like he was moving around better" while doing individual drills at Thursday's practice, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes -- who worked behind Matt Moore on Thursday -- is destined to be listed by the team as a limited practice participant. While his progress since dislocating the patella in his right knee this past Thursday has been highly encouraging, we'd still be very surprised if he suited up for Sunday night's game against the Packers. With that in mind, the Chiefs have yet to rule the QB out for that contest, but Friday's final Week 8 injury report figures to deliver clarity on that front.
Oct 23, 2019
Listed as limited practice participant
Mahomes (knee) was officially listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The fact that Mahomes was out there at all after dislocating the patella in his right knee this past Thursday was highly encouraging, though ESPN's Adam Teicher relays that the star signal caller was "fourth in the quarterback line (Wednesday) behind Matt Moore, Kyle Shurmur and Chad Henne (ankle)." On Monday, coach Andy Reid acknowledged that it would be a "stretch'' for Mahomes to play Sunday night against the Packers and that's a notion we still hold, though it may not be until Friday that the team officially rules him out for Week 8.
Oct 21, 2019
No timetable provided by Reid
Coach Andy Reid acknowledged Monday that it would be a "stretch'' for Mahomes to play Sunday against the Packers, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports. "I don't think you put a timeline on this thing," Reid noted of the status of Mahomes, who dislocated the patella in his right knee this past Thursday. "You go off how he feels and what the doctors say and go with it. I don't think there's a set time, though. I know people want a time, but I don't think you can do that with this injury."
ANALYSIS
Though Reid won't commit to a timetable for Mahomes' recovery, we'll continue to operate under the assumption that the QB will miss time, with a return to action Week 11 still looking like a plausible best-case scenario. While Mahomes missing any action at all is bad news for both the Chiefs and his fantasy managers, trainer Rick Burkholder encouragingly noted that the signal-caller's MRI "turned out as good as we could possibly imagine.'' For now, Mahomes -- who "did extensive full therapy" at the team's complex over the weekend -- will continue to focus on his injury rehab while Matt Moore prepares to start against Green Bay.
Oct 20, 2019
Will miss some time
While Ian Rapoport of NFL Network indicates that Mahomes (knee) is slated to be out three-to-five weeks, ESPN's Adam Schefter suggests that the QB "could return in three weeks, if not sooner."
ANALYSIS
The common thread here is that Mahomes -- who suffered a dislocated kneecap Thursday night -- will miss time. The Chiefs' Week 11 Monday night game (on Nov. 18) still represents the most plausible best-case scenario for his return to action, given that Schefter also relays that the team is "expected to exercise extreme caution with Mahomes, and the time off will allow him to rest" both his knee and an ankle issue that the QB had been working through. With Kansas City's bye looming in Week 12, it stands to reason that the team might simply play it safe with the star signal-caller and hold him out until Week 13, but Schefter's report offers a glimmer of hope that Mahomes could be back a bit sooner than expected.
Oct 18, 2019
Will get second opinion on injury
Mahomes (kneecap) could be sidelined for 3-to-4 weeks, but the Chiefs will seek a second opinion on the injury before establishing a formal timeline for the quarterback's return, a source tells Sam Mellinger of The Kansas City Star.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of Mahomes' initial MRI revealing that he suffered a dislocated right kneecap in Thursday's win over the Broncos, varying reports have surfaced regarding a projected recovery timetable. While Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network relayed that the reigning MVP would be out for as few as three games, the Associated Press suggested Mahomes could be out for 4-to-6 weeks. Mellinger's report puts Mahomes' timeline somewhere between the two extremes, leaving the possibility open that the signal-caller may be ready to go as soon as Nov. 18 against the Chargers in Mexico City. The Chiefs are unlikely to offer more clarity on Mahomes' situation until the results of the second opinion are made available.
Oct 18, 2019
Team gathering info on QB's injury
Coach Andy Reid relayed Friday that the Chiefs are still gathering information pertaining the Mahomes' knee injury, BJ Kissel of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
We'll await further information from the team, but it's been suggested by both Adam Schefter of ESPN and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network that a three-week absence is a best case scenario for the QB's return to action. For now, Matt Moore is the Chiefs' top healthy signal-caller, though Reid did mention the possibility of promoting Kyle Shurmur from the team's practice squad. Meanwhile, Chad Henne (ankle) isn't eligible to return from IR until after Week 8.
Oct 17, 2019
Out with knee injury
Mahomes won't return to Thursday's game against the Broncos due to a right knee injury.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes exited during the second quarter after suffering the injury on a QB sneak. A cart was initially called onto the field, but the 24-year-old gingerly made his way to the locker room under his own power. Mahomes was also shown leaving the X-ray room on the television broadcast around the time he was officially ruled out. Matt Moore steps in at quarterback for the Chiefs in his absence.

Exits after QB sneak
Mahomes exited Thursday's game at Denver after appearing to injury his right knee on a QB sneak, Herbie Teope of The Kansas City Star reports.

Mahomes initially appeared as though he would leave the field via a cart, but he was able to get up and head to the locker room under his own power. The 24-year-old has been battling a left ankle injury but athletic trainers appeared to be tending to his right knee while he was on the ground. The team should provide an official update sometime in the near future. Matt Moore has taken over at quarterback for the Chiefs.

Practices fully Wednesday
Mahomes (ankle) practiced fully Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Per Blair Kerkhoff of the Kansas City Star, Mahomes -- who has been managing a left ankle injury since the Chiefs' opener -- left no doubt that he'll play Sunday against the Texans. "I actually feel pretty good today," Mahomes said after practice Wednesday. The star QB acknowledged that at this stage his ankle is "not perfect, but it's good enough" to "run, cut, cut off of it and do that type of stuff." Five games into the season, Mahomes leads the league with 1,831 passing yards to go along with a tidy 11:0 TD:INT ratio.

Needs treatment for ankle
Mahomes said he'll get treatment on his injured left ankle ahead of a Week 6 home game against the Texans, ESPN.com's Adam Teicher reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes was limping around throughout much of the second half in Sunday's 19-13 loss to Indianapolis, including one point in the third quarter when he was barely able to put weight on his left leg after the already-injured ankle was accidentally kicked by a lineman. He never came out of the game, finishing with 321 passing yards and a touchdown, along with three carries for 17 yards. Andy Reid didn't specifically comment on Mahomes' availability for Week 6, but the coach did say he expects his quarterback to be "OK".

Practices fully
Mahomes (ankle) practiced fully Wednesday, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes tweaked his ankle in Week 1's win over the Jaguars, but he'll be fine for Sunday's game against the Raiders. Though Mahomes won't have Tyreek Hill to throw for a few weeks, the QB still has a pretty solid pass-catching corps to work with in the meantime, with Hill's absence presenting a prime opportunity for rookie Mecole Hardman to make a splash.

Plans to handle usual practice workload
Mahomes indicated that his ankle is feeling better every day and that he plans to take his normal allotment of practice reps Wednesday, Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
It remains to be seen if Mahomes will be listed as a full or limited practice participant Wednesday, but there is nothing to suggest that the QB's availability for Sunday's game against the Raiders is any danger.

Practicing Wednesday
Mahomes (ankle) is participating in Wednesday's practice, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes suffered an ankle sprain during the first half of Sunday's win over the Jaguars, but he played through the issue without missing a snap en route to throwing for 378 yards and three touchdowns. All signs point to Mahomes suiting up Sunday against the Raiders, though it'll nonetheless be worth keeping an eye on his status in practices this week.

Picks up ankle sprain
Coach Andy Reid said Mahomes sustained a sprained ankle during Sunday's 40-26 win at Jacksonville, Terez A. Paylor of Yahoo Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes had his left ankle turn awkwardly under the weight of a Jags defender in the first half, limping to the sideline and getting it taped in the sideline tent. He didn't miss a snap and proceeded to put up a prototypical 378 yards and three touchdowns on 25-for-33 passing. Because he was able to play through the pain, Mahomes seems to be fine moving forward, but his status nonetheless will be one to watch in the coming days.

Roasts Jags on bum ankle
Mahomes (ankle) completed 25 of 33 passes for 378 yards and three touchdowns during Sunday's 40-26 win over the Jaguars. He had his left foot and ankle taped after apparently rolling it during the contest Nate Taylor of The Athletic reports. Mahomes returned to the game, but gave way to backup Matt Moore with the game in hand late.
ANALYSIS
Mahomes and the Chiefs continued their frantic 2018 pace to start the 2019 season despite what was supposed to be a difficult matchup at Jacksonville. Kansas City didn't punt until the fourth quarter, the only Chiefs punt of the game, as Mahomes slung it around, including a few big catch-and-runs to Sammy Watkins early. The talented junior passer was helped off the field in the second quarter with a left lower leg injury, but he was healthy enough to return to the game and throw another touchdown to Watkins. Even by his own standards, Mahomes could not have asked for a much better statistical start to the season, but how his ankle progresses in the coming days will be worth monitoring.
