Gilliam was credited with his second start of the season since he was on the field for the Bills' first play, but he was still limited to just 37 percent of the offensive snaps even though Buffalo leaned into more heavy packages with tight end Dalton Kincaid (oblique) inactive for the contest. The Bills will continue to deploy Gilliam almost exclusively as a blocker anytime he's on the field; the fullback has yet to draw a target or carry the ball through six games and was limited to just three touches for the entire 2024 season.

Gilliam (groin) secured his only target for 19 yards during Saturday's 35-24 preseason loss to the Giants.

Gilliam had been managing a groin injury, but he was healthy enough to suit up for preseason action Saturday and connect with quarterback Mitchell Trubisky for a 19-yard gain in the second quarter. The fullback appeared in 15 regular-season games with Buffalo in 2024, though he only logged three carries for seven yards in that span.

Gilliam did not participate in Sunday's training camp practice due to a groin injury, Sal Capaccio of WGR Sports Radio 550 Buffalo reports.

Gilliam may have picked up the injury during Friday's practice session, and he'll be held out as a precaution to avoid aggravation. The Bills don't have any other fullback on the roster, but if Gilliam were to miss Saturday's preseason opener against the Giants, Buffalo could opt to use tight ends Jackson Hawes, Zach Davidson or Matt Sokol as backfield blockers in run schemes.

The Bills re-signed Gilliam to a one-year, $2 million contract Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Gilliam appeared in 15 regular-season games last season and has spent his entire five-year career with the Bills. He played just 139 offensive snaps in 2024 and wasn't targeted in the passing game but did rush three times for seven scoreless yards. Gilliam doesn't do anything in the box score but is a good glue guy for the Bills.

Gilliam went without a carry or target while playing three of the Bills' 60 snaps on offense in Sunday's 44-42 loss to the Rams.

The fullback also logged 24 snaps on special teams, where he'll likely offer most of his utility to Buffalo moving forward. He typically plays only a handful of snaps on offense per game when an extra blocker is needed.

Gilliam (hip) was a full participant in Wednesday's walk-through practice.

Gilliam has missed Buffalo's last two contests but appears ready to return to the field. He's played just 40 offensive snaps this season but is a mainstay on the Bills' special teams units.

Gilliam downgraded from a limited practice session Wednesday to a DNP on Thursday, so it's no surprise that he won't suit up for Buffalo's Week 9 contest. The Toledo product's next opportunity to play will come in Week 10, when the Bills travel to Indianapolis.

Gilliam played all 26 of his snaps on special teams in Sunday's 34-10 win over the Titans.

For the first time all season, Gilliam didn't take the field on offense as the Bills went without a fullback. The Bills hadn't featured Gilliam much on offense prior to Week 7, as he hadn't exceeded seven snaps in any of the previous six games and didn't carry the ball or draw a target.

Gilliam played seven of the Bills' 64 snaps on offense and went without a carry or target in the team's 47-10 win over the Jaguars on Monday.

The fullback has now taken the field for three, five and seven snaps on offense over the first three games of the season and has yet to earn a touch as a ballcarrier or pass catcher. He'll continue to serve mostly as a lead blocker and special-teams contributor whenever he takes the field.

Gilliam played 14 of the Bills' 68 snaps on offense and went without a carry or target in Sunday's 31-10 win over the Cowboys.

The fullback recorded a career-high eight catches for 69 yards and a touchdown in 15 games in 2022, but the Bills haven't gone out of their way to keep him involved in the passing attack this season. Over his 14 appearances to date, Gilliam has drawn just one target, which he turned into a three-yard reception.

Gilliam has been sidelined since Aug. 7 with a groin injury, but his return to practice indicates he is trending in the right direction. Seeing as though he is the only fullback on Buffalo's roster, his presence alone allows them to expand their playbook with certain sets.

Gilliam (groin) should return to practice this week, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.

Gilliam first missed practice Monday, and then he was unable to take the field for the remainder of the week, including missing the team's preseason game against the Colts on Saturday. Although it's still not clear exactly when he'll return, it appears the Toledo product will be back in action sooner rather than later.

Gilliam will miss his first contest of the year in Week 14 after he suffered an ankle injury at some point over the last week or so. The fullback doesn't typically see too many looks in the Bills' offense, so it's unlikely that his absence will carry much of an impact. Considering he's the only fullback on the Bills' roster, they may need to elevate one from the practice squad or operate with one of their current running backs in that role versus New York.

This is the second consecutive DNP for Gilliam, as the team preps for a divisional showdown with the Jets on Sunday. The 25-year-old has yet to miss a game this season, so although his offensive snaps are limited, it's unclear what the team would do without the only fullback on it's roster. Gilliam will work to return to the practice field Friday, where his status will likely provide a better outlook for his potential availability Week 14.

Gilliam put the Bills on the board with 9:07 left in the first quarter, when he reeled in an 11-yard pass from Josh Allen for as score. After inking a two-year extension in August, Gilliam has more job security than most fullbacks around the league, but that doesn't mean he'll be a focal point of the offense. The three targets were a career-high total for Gilliam, who hasn't played more than 42 percent of the Bills' offensive snaps in any of his 18 games across the past two seasons.

Gilliam signed a two-year, $5.2 million extension with the Bills on Sunday, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.

While Gilliam's statistical production doesn't warrant fantasy consideration, he still offers quality value to Buffalo's offense and special-teams units. Across his first two seasons with the Bills, the undrafted fullback out of Toledo has totaled 230 snaps on offense and 499 on special teams across 30 appearances.

Gilliam (ankle) is active for Sunday's contest against the Buccaneers.

Gilliam was able to log a full practice Friday for the first time in two weeks and will be available Sunday after a one-game absence due to the ankle injury. However, the 6-foot fullback has only produced 18 yards across 11 appearances this season, so he doesn't warrant any fantasy consideration.

Gilliam's injury is no longer a concern after missing the final two games of the season, and he'll be ready for Saturday's wild-card game against the Colts. The rookie fullback played in 14 games during the regular season, mostly as a special-teams contributor.

Gilliam is set to close out the regular-season with back-to-back missed games, though it's possible that the fullback will manage to return during the playoffs. On a positive note for Buffalo, McDermott didn't rule out any other players for Week 17.

Gilliam is the one guy on the roster capable of playing fullback even though he also serves as a depth tight end, though he's really more of a special teams guy at this stage of his career. We'll see if he can upgrade his practice participation ahead of Monday's game at New England.

The fullback's full practice participation suggests he'll be able to suit up Monday against the 49ers. Gilliam has caught only two passes all season, though one went for a touchdown.

While he's not playing much on offense -- just six snaps in Week 12 -- Gilliam suited up over tight end Tyler Kroft in Sunday's win and has been utilized on special teams, so opportunity continues to knock for the FB/TE hybrid out of Toledo, assuming the hamstring issue proves to be something minor.

Gilliam could be forced into action on offense Sunday against the Jets with three others in the tight end room being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Saturday.

Tight end Dawson Knox tested positive for the virus while three others in the tight end corps were deemed to be in close proximity to him at some point. Tyler Kroft was not part of that group because, in a good twist of fate, he took a personal day to be with his newborn baby. Gilliam, who shifted from fullback to tight end earlier, was spared as well, since perhaps he was spending time mostly in special teams meetings. While he only has seen 13 offensive snaps this season, that could change out of necessity in Week 7. We don't think that makes him a fantasy factor on almost any level, but don't be surprised either if he shows up in a key play or two. The rookie did score a touchdown in Week 2.

Gilliam caught his only target for a one-yard score in Sunday's win over the Dolphins.

When you're an undrafted free agent that found a way to stick with the team and your very first NFL target goes for a touchdown in a tight game, life is good. Gilliam switched from fullback to tight end during training camp as the Bills have seemingly mostly phased the FB position out of their offense. He's deep down the tight end depth chart, but with blocking guru Lee Smith being a game-day inactive Sunday and starter Dawson Knox trying to get back from a concussion, perhaps another end-zone look could be in store for the rookie from Toledo.
