Set to back up Winston in Week 11
Giants interim coach Mike Kafka said Wednesday that Wilson is "going to be the backup" behind Jameis Winston during Sunday's matchup against the Packers, Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has been overtaken by Winston as the No. 2 quarterback in New York, but he'll get a chance to handle backup duties versus Green Bay in Week 11 with Jaxson Dart (concussion) expected to sit out the contest. Kafka said Wilson remains "a crucial part of our offense," but once Dart has returned to full health, the veteran signal-caller will likely be relegated to emergency No. 3 quarterback duties.

Being demoted to No. 3 QB
Wilson has lost his grasp on the No. 2 quarterback role to Jameis Winston, who is likely to start Sunday's game against the Packers with Jaxson Dart in the concussion protocol, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Giants interim head coach Mike Kafka's first major move is the demotion of Wilson, who opened the regular season as New York's starter but was benched in favor of Dart after three games. The 31-year-old veteran played the entire fourth quarter of New York's loss to the Bears in Week 10 after Dart's injury, in which span he orchestrated only one field-goal drive while Chicago scored two unanswered TDs to take the lead. Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports that Dart is expected to miss Week 11 while working his way through the concussion protocol, setting the stage for Wilson to take his first offensive snaps of the season.

Can't hold lead after Dart injury
Wilson completed three of seven passes for 45 yards and rushed twice for 12 yards after replacing Jaxson Dart (concussion) in the second half of Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Bears.
ANALYSIS
Wilson entered the game after Dart departed at the end of the third quarter. The Giants got a field goal on Wilson's first drive in the game to take a 20-10 lead, but the Bears responded with a pair of unanswered touchdowns to drop the Giants to 2-8. Wilson would presumably start in Week 11 against the Packers if Dart doesn't clear concussion protocol in time, though the Giants also have Jameis Winston on the roster.

In backup role for good
Giants coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Wilson will operate as the backup to Jaxson Dart for the rest of the season, Jordan Raanan of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson heads to the bench after three starts, and the team isn't leaving the door open for any further changes under center with Dart now in the No. 1 position. Daboll said Wilson as a "pro" about his being benched. While New York hasn't mentioned the possibility of any future trade, Wilson's presence is somewhat redundant for the team due to the presence of Jameis Winston in the No. 3 role. After an awful start to the year though, aside from his huge Week 2 production versus the Cowboys, it's unclear whether even quarterback-needy teams around the league will express much interest in Wilson's availability.
Sep 23, 2025
Heading to bench
With the Giants planning to start Jaxson Dart at quarterback Sunday against the Chargers, Wilson will head to the bench, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson had a huge Week 2 against the Cowboys, throwing for 450 yards and three touchdowns, but he's been abysmal outside of that contest. In his two other starts, Wilson has completed just 50.7 percent of his passes and averaged 4.8 yards per attempt with zero touchdowns. Wilson will serve as the Giants' QB2 behind Dart against the Chargers, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports, as Jameis Winston will remain the third quarterback.
Sep 22, 2025
Giants considering changes
Head coach Brian Daboll said Monday when asked whether the team is considering a potential change from Wilson as the starting quarterback said "we're evaluating everything," Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson came down to earth after throwing for over 400 yards in Week 2, instead struggling mightily during Sunday night's 22-9 primetime loss to the Chiefs. The veteran signal-caller averaged a paltry 5.0 yards per attempt versus Kansas City, finishing the night with 160 passing yards, zero touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing five times for 27 yards. After such an unconvincing showing, it's possible New York will turn away from Wilson and instead opt to give rookie Jaxson Dart or veteran backup Jameis Winston a chance to spark this offense Week 4 against the Chargers.
Sep 22, 2025
Abysmal showing against Chiefs
Wilson completed 18 of 32 passes for 160 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 22-9 loss to the Chiefs. He added five rushes for 27 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was unable to replicate his heroics from Week 2, averaging only 5.0 yards per attempt while also throwing an interception deep in Chiefs territory late in the second quarter. That halted the Giants' offensive momentum and set the tone for an abysmal overall showing. Wilson has struggled to move the offense in two of three games this season and will draw another tough assignment in Week 4 against the Chargers.
Sep 14, 2025
Tops 400 yards in tough OT loss
Wilson completed 30 of 41 passes for 450 yards and three touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 40-37 overtime loss to the Cowboys. He added 23 yards on three carries.
ANALYSIS
The 36-year-old quarterback nearly set a new career high in passing yards at 454, but his final completion of the day went for minus-four yards to Devin Singletary. Wilson's lone turnover then came on his next pass attempt, leading to Brandon Aubrey's game-winning field goal in OT. Most of that volume went to Malik Nabers (9-167-2 on 13 targets) and Wan'Dale Robinson (8-142-1 on 10 targets), as Wilson quickly erased memories of his rough Week 1 debut with the Giants, although the final result was the same. 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart was under center for a few snaps but didn't attempt a pass, and the veteran's massive numbers likely bought him a little more job security, although a transition to the rookie seems inevitable at some point this season. Wilson will face what should be a much tougher test in Week 3 against Kansas City.
Sep 8, 2025
Confirmed as Week 2 starter
Giants coach Brian Daboll said Monday that Wilson will start Sunday on the road against Dallas in Week 2, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson struggled significantly in his New York debut versus the Commanders in Week 1, a 21-6 loss in which he completed 17 of 37 pass attempts for 168 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. The veteran did salvage his fantasy performance to some extent, rushing for 44 yards on eight carries. While Daboll said the team doesn't want to make any rash decisions at quarterback, Wilson will certainly need to turn in a better effort sooner rather than later in order to avoid pressure from rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart, or potentially even veteran backup Jameis Winston.
Sep 7, 2025
Struggles in Giants debut
Wilson completed 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 21-6 loss to the Commanders. He also rushed eight times for 44 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson had just 58 yards on 15 first-half pass attempts, and he wasn't significantly more efficient after halftime, finishing the game with just 4.5 yards per pass attempt while the Giants failed to score a touchdown. He didn't get much help from the running game behind a poor offensive line, as Wilson led the team in rushing yards while Tyrone Tracy, Devin Singletary and Cam Skattebo combined to rush for only 30 yards on 15 carries. If Wilson doesn't improve in Week 2 against the Cowboys, it may not be long until the Giants turn to rookie first-round pick Jaxson Dart over the declining veteran.
Aug 16, 2025
Throws INT on Saturday
Wilson completed four of seven passes for 108 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception in the Giants' 31-12 exhibition win over the Jets on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out the preseason opener, Wilson made the start for the G-Men in this one and played a couple series. His interception looked like a miscommunication between Wilson and his receiver down the field. Wilson is expected to open the season as the Giants' starting quarterback, but first-round rookie Jaxson Dart has looked tremendous this preseason and is a good bet to make rookie-year starts. Wilson is not an attractive fantasy quarterback option in 12-team leagues.
Aug 16, 2025
Warming up to start Saturday
Wilson is warming up and appears to be in line to start Saturday's preseason game against the Jets, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson is warming up alongside wide receivers Wan'Dale Robinson, Darius Slayton (undisclosed) and Jalin Hyatt (undisclosed), who all look set to join him on the field Saturday, though Malik Nabers (toe/shoulder) is dressed in street clothes. Wilson completed six of seven passes for 28 yards during New York's preseason opener against the Bills, and he'll now work to demonstrate consistency again against the Jets' stout secondary.
Aug 9, 2025
Accurate in preseason opener
Wilson completed six of seven passes for 28 yards in Saturday's 34-25 preseason win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
The veteran quarterback got the start in the Giants' first preseason contest but played only one drive, keeping the ball moving with short passes to his running backs and tight ends to set up a 53-yard Graham Gano field goal. Wilson's reluctance to stretch the field may have been part of a vanilla game plan, but it likely also had something to do with the absence of Malik Nabers (shoulder), Darius Slayton (undisclosed) and Jalin Hyatt from the lineup. It's not clear how much the Giants plan to use Wilson the rest of the preseason, so he may not get any opportunities to build a rapport with Nabers in game action before a Week 1 clash with the Commanders.
Aug 9, 2025
In line to start Saturday
Wilson is slated to start Saturday's preseason opener against the Bills, Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Stapleton , rookie QB Jaxson Dart is on track to see his share of snaps in his professional debut Saturday, with Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito also in the mix to see playing time versus Buffalo. At this stage, Wilson remains on track to be the Giants' starting signal caller in Week 1, when they face the Commanders on the road.
Aug 7, 2025
Uncertain for preseason opener
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Thursday that it's still to be determined whether Wilson and the rest of the starters will suit up for Saturday's preseason opener against the Bills, but that rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will play, Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, who is entering his age-37 season as the Giants' clear starting quarterback after inking a one-year deal with the team, is essentially a known commodity under center, and with top wideouts Malik Nabers (shoulder/toe) and Wan'Dale Robinson (leg) both managing injuries, the team may not see much incentive in having the veteran signal-caller take the field this early in the preseason. The Bills starters will take the field Saturday, though, with the exception of Josh Allen being replaced by backup Mitchell Trubisky under center. Geoff Magliocchetti of SI.com reports that Wilson has made a strong impression early in training camp, especially in having fostered strong relationships with his new teammates.
Jul 23, 2025
Locked in atop depth chart
Giants coach Brian Daboll confirmed Wednesday that Wilson is the team's starting quarterback, Paul Schwartz of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, 36, took first-team reps throughout the offseason program and will continue to do so in training camp. Daboll's comments Wednesday suggest Jameis Winston and first-round pick Jaxon Dart are competing for the No. 2 QB spot rather than making any push for Wilson's place atop the depth chart. There's nonetheless a decent chance that Dart and/or Winston makes starts at some point this year, in part because the Giants aren't expected to field a strong team. They'll play six of their first eight games against 2024 playoff participants, including Week 1 at Washington and Weeks 6 and 8 against the Eagles.
May 22, 2025
Remains entrenched atop depth chart
Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Thursday that Wilson will take the team's first-team reps to begin spring OTAs and is expected to start Week 1, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson remains in relatively clear position to kick off the 2025 regular season under center for New York after inking a one-year, $10.5 million contract with the team in March. The Giants' offseason approach is shaping up to be far less of a quarterback competition than the selection of Jaxon Dart in the first round of April's draft, at 25th overall, might indicate. Carroll speculates that Wilson's one-year deal positions him as a clear 'bridge' quarterback for 2025, Jameis Winston's a two-year contract gives New York another established veteran as starter insurance for 2025, and a player capable of acting as either competition or a backup for Dart down the line. If Wilson is able to capably pilot Daboll's offense and keep New York relatively competitive, at least in line with expectations, he figures to retain a strong grip on the No. 1 gig, but it also wouldn't take more than a handful of early-season duds for pressure to mount.
Mar 25, 2025
Joining Big Blue
The Giants and Wilson agreed to a one-year contract Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Giants have been in search of a new starting quarterback since moving on from Daniel Jones last season, and Wilson seemingly will be the choice for them, at least initially in 2025, even with fellow offseason signing Jameis Winston on the roster and the draft still to come. Wilson will receive $10.5 million guaranteed upon signing with the potential to make $21 million this season. In 11 regular-season appearances (all starts) in his only campaign with the Steelers in 2024, he completed 214 of 336 passes (63.7 percent) for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions, had 43 carries for 155 yards and two more TDs and fumbled five times (four lost).
Mar 13, 2025
Set to visit Giants next
Wilson is leaving Cleveland without a contract and now is expected to visit the Giants, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It would seem his third option is to re-sign in Pittsburgh, although both that and the New York situation depend on what Aaron Rodgers decides to do, with reports suggesting both teams prefer Rodgers to Wilson. If Wilson signs with the Browns or Giants it'll come with risk of facing competition from an early draft pick, whereas the Steelers don't pick until No. 21 and already used their second-rounder to acquire WR DK Metcalf.
Mar 12, 2025
Visiting Cleveland
Wilson is expected to visit the Browns this week, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that Wilson is "still in the mix" to re-sign with Pittsburgh, although that likely depends in part on Aaron Rodgers choosing a different team. Justin Fields, meanwhile, is set to sign with the Jets, leaving the Steelers with limited options if things don't work out with Rodgers. As for Wilson, a move to Cleveland would put him in a rough situation in terms of the supporting cast, and there'd also be risk of the team then drafting a rookie quarterback. Deshaun Watson may also be a factor at some point, but he won't be available at the beginning of the season, having undergone surgery in January after rupturing his Achilles tendon for a second time in less than three months.
Jan 27, 2025
Competing with Fields to re-sign?
Steelers owner and president Art Rooney II said Monday that it's "probably unlikely" the team brings back both Wilson and Justin Fields this offseason, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pryor reports that Pittsburgh will likely work to bring back one of Wilson or Fields on a one-year contract this offseason, but it sounds like the team isn't considering re-signing both players. The comments made by Rooney II don't necessarily preclude both Wilson and Fields walking as free agents, though Mark Kaboly of 93.7 The Fan Pittsburgh reports the team owner said re-signing one of the two signal-callers ""will give us the best opportunity to move forward." As the leader of Pittsburgh's offense, Wilson closed out the season with five consecutive losses, including a wild-card round playoff exit versus Baltimore. The interest he draws as a free agent relative to Fields could ultimately be the deciding factor in dictating which quarterback gets another chance to prove themselves with the Steelers during the 2025 campaign.
Jan 11, 2025
Late comeback attempt not enough
Wilson completed 20 of 29 passes for 270 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in Saturday's 28-14 loss to the Ravens. He added three rushes for six yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson struggled to close the regular season and that carried over into the first half of Saturday's playoff matchup. Things turned around in the second half for him, however, as he aired the ball out with the Steelers down multiple scores and tallied six completions of more than 20 yards. That included a pair of long passing scores that went for 36 and 30 yards to George Pickens and Van Jefferson, respectively. Despite that fairly impressive close to the campaign, Wilson lost five straight games as the leader of the Steelers offense, and he totaled just seven touchdowns while averaging only 6.4 yards per attempt in that span. That sets him up for an intriguing offseason, as he enters free agency clearly on the back end of his career but still capable of orchestrating an effective offense at times.
Jan 4, 2025
Slide continues against Bengals
Wilson completed 17 of 31 passes for 148 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Saturday's 19-17 loss to the Bengals. He added four rushes for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson and the Steelers failed to get anything going in the first half, as he completed just four of eight passes for 45 yards. A desperate comeback in the final 10 minutes of game time led to a slightly improved line, highlighted by several long completions to Pat Freiermuth -- including a 19-yard touchdown. While Wilson managed to salvage his stat line to some degree, he's failed to reach 220 passing yards in each of his last five games while throwing for just six total touchdowns in that span. He and the Steelers enter the postseason on a four-game skid and will square off against either the Texans or Ravens.
Dec 25, 2024
Held in check in Week 17
Wilson completed 23 of 37 passes for 205 yards and an interception in a 29-10 loss to Kansas City on Christmas Day. He added 55 rushing yards and a touchdown on six carries.
ANALYSIS
The veteran quarterback's one pick was costly, as it came in the end zone late in the first quarter as the Steelers tried to drive for their first points of the day. Wilson did produce a one-yard TD run in the second quarter, but otherwise the Kansas City pass rush made his life miserable and sacked him five times. Wilson has failed to reach 220 passing yards in four straight games and has committed three turnovers against three TD passes in the last three contests, but even with the Ravens having won Wednesday, the Steelers will still have a chance to claim the AFC North title if they can beat the Bengals, and get some help, in Week 18.
Dec 21, 2024
Key mistakes in loss to Ravens
Wilson completed 22 of 33 passes for 217 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Saturday's 34-17 loss to the Ravens. He added three rushes for 27 yards while also losing a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's stat line was mediocre, particularly considering he remained without George Pickens (hamstring). He was able to get rid of the ball quickly on several occasions, allowing Jaylen Warren and others to pick up yards after the catch while also connecting on deep shots of 44 and 21 yards to Calvin Austin and Van Jefferson, respectively. However, two key mistakes overshadowed the positives, the first of which was when he lost a fumble deep in Baltimore territory after a 19-yard scramble early in the second quarter. Wilson then threw a pick-six early in the final quarter in what turned out to be the decisive sequence of the game. Wilson has now failed to throw for at least 225 yards in his last three matchups -- all of which have come without Pickens.
Dec 15, 2024
Struggles in Philly
Wilson completed 14 of 22 passes for 128 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Eagles. He added four rushes for 13 yards while losing a fumble.
ANALYSIS
The Eagles dominated time of possession, and the Steelers ran only offensive 41 plays. In part, that was due to Wilson's inability to move the Pittsburgh offense, as the unit totaled -19 yards through their five possessions while picking up only 163 net yards for the game. The end result was Wilson's lowest yardage total as the team's starter and marks his second consecutive performance with less than 160 passing yards with George Pickens (hamstring) sidelined. Though Baltimore's passing defense has been leaky at times, it will be difficult to trust Wilson moving forward -- particularly so long as Pickens is out.
Dec 8, 2024
Two touchdowns in win
Wilson completed 15 of 26 passes for 158 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 27-14 win over the Browns. He added six rushes for 17 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson started the game slowly as he had just 46 yards on 16 attempts at halftime. However, he led the Steelers on an eight-play, 67-yard touchdown drive that ended with a 10-yard pass to Van Jefferson on the team's first offensive possession. One drive later, he took advantage of a short field and delivered a 20-yard score to Pat Freiermuth. This wasn't Wilson's most prolific performance, but he managed the offense well and threw for multiple scores for the fourth time in seven starts on the campaign.
Dec 1, 2024
Lights up Bengals' secondary
Wilson completed 29 of 38 passes for 414 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 44-38 win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Wilson got off to a rough start, as his fourth pass attempt of the game was picked and returned for a score. However, he was nearly mistake-free from there, completing nine passes of 20 yards or more en route to averaging 10.9 yards per attempt. Wilson also threw for multiple scores for the first time since Week 10, which came from 17, 23 and 25 yards away. Despite the strong showing, Wilson remains a risky fantasy option reliant upon strong efficiency, as this marked just the second time in six starts that he's attempted 30 passes.
Nov 21, 2024
Impressive numbers in loss
Wilson completed 21 of 28 passes for 270 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and rushed three times for 10 yards in the Steelers' 24-19 loss to the Browns on Thursday night. He also lost a fumble and recovered another.
ANALYSIS
Wilson put up his second-highest passing yardage total of the season in a game that was played in significantly inclement winter weather as it unfolded. Wilson was able to get the Steelers within striking distance of a potential game-winning score on the final drive before throwing incomplete on a Hail Mary as time expired. Prior to that, the veteran signal-caller connected with Calvin Austin for a 23-yard touchdown pass with 6:15 remaining, but he'd also lost a fumble at the Steelers' 31-yard line late in the first half that led to a Browns field goal. Wilson's numbers were still encouraging within the context of the weather conditions the game was played in, and he'll now have extra time to prepare for a key divisional road clash against the Bengals on Sunday, Dec. 1.
Nov 17, 2024
Quiet in Sunday's win
Wilson completed 23 of 36 passes for 205 yards with an interception in Sunday's 18-16 win over the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Both defenses came into the contest with similar ideas and mostly took away the deep passing game, but Wilson also squandered his one chance for a score with a red-zone INT in the fourth quarter. The veteran QB is still 4-0 since taking over the starting job from Justin Fields with a 6:2 TD:INT, and one lackluster performance won't put his job in jeopardy. Wilson will look to bounce back in Week 12 against the Browns.
Nov 10, 2024
Tosses game-winning score
Wilson completed 14 of 28 passes for 195 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 28-27 win over the Commanders. He also rushed the ball four times for three yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson couldn't maintain the efficiency of his first two starts of the season, as he slipped to only 7.0 yards per carry. However, he still led the Steelers to four scoring drives, and he capped three of those with passing scores of 32, 16 and three yards. His 32-yard touchdown came with only 2:16 remaining and proved to be the game-winning score on a deep connection with newcomer Mike Williams. Wilson now has three total touchdowns in two of his three starts and has yet to throw an interception.
Nov 5, 2024
Welcoming new wide receiver
The Steelers added WR Mike Williams via a trade from the Jets on Tuesday, giving Wilson another threat to the passing game, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has fared well in his two starts for Pittsburgh, completing 36 of 57 (63.2 percent) of his passes for 542 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions and recording 10 yards and another TD on six carries. With a 2-0 record under his belt so far, he now will welcome a wide receiver that's well suited to his strengths, namely his deep-ball acumen. Williams likely will need some time to acclimate to a new system, but he should join George Pickens as the team's top options at the position in due time, which could be a boon for Wilson's prospects.
Oct 28, 2024
Sharp from pocket Monday
Wilson completed 20 of 28 pass attempts for 278 yards and a touchdown while rushing three times for seven yards with a lost fumble in Monday's 26-18 win over the Giants.
ANALYSIS
Wilson had Pittsburgh's offense clicking out of halftime after several lengthy first half drives resulted in field goals. The 35-year-old is looking like a good fit in Pittsburgh's scheme through two starts with 542 passing yards and four combined touchdowns in two team victories. The 6-2 Steelers will now enter a bye week before resuming play against the Commanders on Nov. 10. Wilson should be considered a solid fantasy play in Week 10 as he continues to get acclimated to his new offense over the bye.
Oct 21, 2024
Performs well in PIT debut
Wilson completed 16 of 29 pass attempts for 264 yards and two touchdowns while adding three carries for three yards and a third touchdown in Sunday's 37-15 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Wilson made his much-anticipated debut with Pittsburgh after joining the club this offseason and missing the first six games due to a calf injury. The veteran quarterback looked healthy in Sunday's primetime matchup, producing three touchdowns without turning the ball over in a decisive victory. Head coach Mike Tomlin validated his decision to start Wilson over the 4-2 Steelers' interim starter, Justin Fields, based on Sunday night's results. Wilson figures to continue leading this contending squad into another nationally televised game when Pittsburgh hosts the New York Giants on Monday Night Football in Week 8.
Oct 19, 2024
Likely starting Sunday
Wilson is expected to start Sunday's game against the Jets, although the backup Justin Fields is also expected to see some snaps, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
This feels like gamesmanship to the worst degree. We won't know the extent that Justin Fields will be involved in the game plan, but wide receiver George Pickens seemed to tip everyone off to Wilson making the start Friday saying that he needed to "get on the same page after practice, throwing more than usual because this is his first start." The veteran quarterback was projected to be the team's starter after training camp, but a lingering calf injury had kept him out the previous six weeks.
Oct 18, 2024
First start imminent?
Coach Mike Tomlin revealed Friday that he's made a decision on the Steelers' starting quarterback between Wilson and Justin Fields for Sunday's game against the Jets but won't announce who is getting the call, Brook Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Not long after Tomlin spoke to the media, WR George Pickens may have let slip that Wilson will be under center Sunday, noting he and the QB have been "getting on the same page after practice, throwing more than usual because this is his first start." All signs point to that being the case, as Wilson took first-team reps this week and led the team's signal-callers in individual drills, while Fields was second in the rotation. Fields started the first six games of the season while Wilson recovered from a lingering calf injury, but the latter now seems poised for his first nod as a member of the Steelers. During his two-year stint in Denver, Wilson averaged 219.8 passing yards per game and threw 42 touchdowns versus 19 interceptions in 30 games, all of them starts.
Oct 17, 2024
Preparing to play
Wilson said Thursday that he's preparing to play Sunday night against the Jets, ESPN.com's Brooke Pryor reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike Tomlin hasn't named a starter, but there have been multiple hints about Wilson taking over this week, including his reps with the first-team offense during Wednesday's practice. Tomlin acknowledged Tuesday that Wilson was under consideration to start this week, even though Justin Fields has gone 4-2 as the starter while accounting for 11 total TDs (six passing, five rushing).
Oct 16, 2024
Takes first-team reps
Wilson took the first-team reps at Wednesday's practice, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Wilson was under consideration for the Week 7 start, but the Steelers head coach either hasn't decided yet or doesn't want to announce it, as he told Pryor on Wednesday that any decisions that he's made will stay in-house. Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Tuesday that Wilson is "in line to make his season debut Sunday night against the Jets," even though Justin Fields has gone 4-2 as the starter while accounting for 11 total touchdowns (six passing, five rushing).
Oct 15, 2024
On track to start Week 7
Wilson will receive first-team reps in practice this week and is in line to start Sunday's game against the Jets, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The report came just minutes before head coach Mike Tomlin held his weekly Tuesday weekly press conference and told assembled media that Wilson was merely "in consideration" for the Week 7 start, per Dale Lolley of the Steelers' official site. Tomlin added that both Wilson and Justin Fields will get reps in practice this week before a decision on a starter for Sunday's game is made, but assuming Pelissero's report comes to pass, Wilson looks like he'll get the chance to make his Steelers debut. If Wilson does receive the starting nod, he'll likely need a strong outing against the Jets to solidify his spot atop the depth chart moving forward. While Wilson missed the first five games of the season with a calf injury before he was active as the No. 2 quarterback for Week 6, Fields guided Pittsburgh to a 4-2 record while completing 66.3 percent of his passes for 6.9 yards per attempt and committing just two turnovers. Wilson had been named the starter heading into Week 1 before aggravating the calf issue in pract
Oct 13, 2024
Active as backup Sunday
Wilson is active for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After five straight weeks serving as the Steelers' emergency No. 3 quarterback, Wilson -- who practiced fully this past week -- has been deemed active Sunday, which sets the stage for him to work as the team's No. 2 signal caller behind Justin Fields, who has led the team to a 3-2 record to date. With Wilson not among the team's inactives versus Las Vegas, Kyle Allen is this week's inactive emergency No. 3 QB for Pittsburgh.
Oct 11, 2024
Expected to be backup Week 6
Coach Mike Tomlin said Friday that Wilson's expected to be active and serve as Justin Fields' backup Sunday against the Raiders, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has been practicing without limitations in the leadup to Sunday's game, putting him in position to be active for the first time this season after missing the first five games due to a calf injury. The veteran quarterback could have a chance to supplant Fields as the starter should Fields struggle or get hurt, but Fields remains the starter for now after leading Pittsburgh to a 3-2 start.

Logs full practice
Wilson (calf) was a full practice participant Wednesday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's his first time as a full participant since he aggravated his calf injury Sept. 5. Wilson is taking reps with the second-team offense, but coach Mike Tomlin did leave the door open for the 35-year-old to get some first-team work later this week. While QB Justin Fields seems highly likely to make another start this Sunday at Las Vegas, it won't come as any surprise if Wilson takes over at some point before the end of the year.

Repping with backups to begin Week 6
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said that Wilson (calf) is scheduled to be a full participant in practice Wednesday and will open Week 6 prep with the second-team offense, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Dale Lolley of the Steelers' official site, Tomlin added that while Wilson will open the practice week with the backups so as not to disrupt Justin Fields' preparation, the coach is leaving the door open for Wilson to potentially take reps with the first team later on in the week. Fields thus tentatively looks to be trending toward picking up another start Sunday against the Raiders, though the Steelers could change course and go with Wilson if the latter fares well in practice Wednesday. Wilson was named the Steelers' starting quarterback coming out of the preseason but has yet to make his team debut after aggravating a calf injury in practice leading up to Week 1.

Remains emergency No. 3 QB
Wilson (calf) is inactive as the Steelers' emergency No. 3 quarterback for Sunday night's game against the Cowboys, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has resumed mixing into 11-on-11 drills as he ramps things up in his recovery from a lingering calf injury, but he remained listed as a limited participant in practice this past week. Against Dallas, he'll remain the team's emergency No. 3 quarterback for the fifth straight contest, with Justin Fields slated to get another start at QB for the 3-1 Steelers and Kyle Allen available in a backup capacity.
Oct 4, 2024
Questionable for Sunday
Wilson (calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson remained a limited practice participant this past week, though the QB, who has resumed mixing into 11-on-11 drills, noted that he's "definitely ramping it up. It's been good. I feel great, and I just keep getting better every day." As Sunday's contest approaches, Justin Fields is poised to make his fifth straight start for the Steelers, while it remains to be seen if Wilson is ready to back him up or will remain inactive as the team's emergency No. 3 quarterback this weekend.
Oct 3, 2024
Remains limited in practice
Wilson (calf) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson said Thursday that he's ramped up his workload in practice this week, including some involvement in 11-on-11 drills the past two days, according to Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com. However, the extra reps haven't translated to a change in his listing on Steelers' practice reports; Wilson has now been listed as "limited" for 13 consecutive practices. Justin Fields remains on track to start Sunday's game against the Cowboys, and since he's thus far guided Pittsburgh to a 3-1 record while completing 70.6 percent of his passes for 7.6 yards per attempt, he seems likely to stick atop the depth chart even once Wilson is deemed 100 percent healthy. For his part, head coach Mike Tomlin has been adamant that a starter won't be named until Wilson is fully recovered from the calf issue that has kept him inactive for each of Pittsburgh's first four games.
Oct 2, 2024
Remains limited in practice
Wilson (calf) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Wilson would ramp up his activity level this week, doing more "live pocket" work during practice. Wilson may soon be ready to step in for Kyle Allen as the No. 2 quarterback, after serving as the emergency No. 3 for the first month of the season. Justin Fields' solid performance to date has him securely in the starting job for now.
Oct 1, 2024
Ready to ramp up activity
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that Wilson (calf) will have a "strong work day" at practice including reps from a live pocket, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tomlin said he's still preparing for Justin Fields to start Sunday's game against the Cowboys, per Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site, but it sounds like Wilson will be closer to being cleared for the official backup role for Week 5, rather than having to act as Pittsburgh's emergency No. 3 quarterback for a fifth straight contest. Returning to 11-on-11 reps represents a notable step in the right direction for Wilson, whose full clearance would stand to apply further pressure on Fields as the starter. Tomlin's comments indicate Wilson has been limited to 7-on-7 work at practice in recent weeks. Wednesday's first official injury report of Week 5 will reveal whether Wilson has managed to upgrade to 'full' practice status, or whether the veteran signal-caller still officially remains limited.
Sep 29, 2024
Emergency No. 3 QB again
Wilson (calf) is inactive as the Steelers' emergency No. 3 quarterback for Sunday's game against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
After another week of limited at practices, Wilson will remain the team's emergency No. 3 quarterback for the fourth straight contest. As a result, Justin Fields is slated to get another start at QB for the 3-0 Steelers, with Kyle Allen available in a backup capacity.
Sep 27, 2024
Questionable for Sunday
Wilson (calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, who remained limited at practice this week, has been inactive as the Steelers' emergency No. 3 quarterback for the team's first three games this season. It remains to be seen if that will once again be the case this weekend, but either way Justin Fields is on track to make his fourth consecutive start at QB for the 3-0 Steelers, per Dale Lolley of the team's official site.
Sep 25, 2024
Limited in practice
Wilson (calf) was a limited practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's injured calf reportedly is improving, but he still hasn't managed full practice participation since the start of the season and may only be Justin Fields' backup even after that happens. The Steelers are preparing Fields to make his fourth consecutive start this Sunday at Indianapolis.
Sep 24, 2024
Limited, unlikely to start Week 4
Head coach Mike Tomlin said that Wilson (calf) will begin Week 4 prep as a limited practice participant Wednesday, and the Steelers are preparing for Justin Fields to make a fourth consecutive start at quarterback Sunday versus the Colts, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Wilson has suggested that he's improving in his recovery from the calf injury that he aggravated Sept. 5, the veteran signal-caller has yet to upgrade from limited participation in practice. Tomlin hasn't ruled out the possibility of Wilson increasing his participation by the end of the week, at which point the Steelers could revisit whether Wilson will be available Sunday. Even if Wilson is cleared to put an end to his three-game absence and suit up Sunday, he would likely be limited to a backup role, given that Fields has guided the Steelers to a 3-0 start while completing 73.3 percent of his pass attempts and committing just one turnover.
Sep 22, 2024
Inactive again Week 3
Wilson (calf) is inactive as the Steelers' emergency No. 3 quarterback for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was listed as a limited practice participant throughout the week, but since that represented no change in his level of activity from the week prior, the Steelers are electing to hold him out for a third consecutive game to begin the season. Justin Fields will once again start at quarterback for the Steelers, and he could hang on to the job if he's able to guide Pittsburgh to a 3-0 start to the season with another win Sunday. Head coach Mike Tomlin noted earlier in the week that he wouldn't commit to a permanent starter at quarterback until Wilson is fully healthy, however.
Sep 20, 2024
Listed as questionable for Week 3
Wilson (calf) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers after being limited in practice this week, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Wilson continues to progress, noting that he's "definitely gaining ground" as he recovers from a calf injury, Justin Fields is trending toward making a third straight start at quarterback for the Steelers this weekend. Wilson has served as the team's inactive emergency third quarterback in both of Pittsburgh's first two contests, with Kyle Allen having backed up Fields thus far.
Sep 19, 2024
Still limited at practice
Wilson (calf) remained limited at practice Thursday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Wilson still isn't practicing fully, he noted Thursday, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, "I'm definitely gaining ground. I feel good. I was able to do a lot more work today, yesterday, so we're getting better every day." That said, Varley indicated that the Steelers continue to prepare for Sunday's game against the Chargers, moving forward with Justin Fields working as their perceived QB starter for Week 3. Wilson now has one more chance to upgrade to full practice participation before Pittsburgh's final injury report is posted Friday.
Sep 18, 2024
Logs limited practice
Wilson (calf) was listed as limited at Wednesday's practice, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's limitations were expected, given that coach Mike Tomlin previously indicated that the QB wouldn't be a full participant as he continues to work his way back from a calf injury. In terms of the Steelers' approach to who will start Sunday's game against the Chargers, Tomlin noted Tuesday "we're kind of in the same posture as we were in last week with Russ. We're readying a plan that features Justin (Fields) and his readiness. We'll follow Russ throughout the week. If his participation gets to a level, participation and quality where we should consider him, we'll delve into that at that time." With that in mind, Tomlin added "we're readying ourselves around Justin. We'll stay in that mindset until something else happens." In any case, with the Steelers 2-0 with Fields as their starter, it would be a surprise if the team turned to Wilson this weekend, even if he's moved past his injury.
Sep 17, 2024
Not in line to start Week 3
Head coach Mike Tomlin said that Wilson (calf) is not scheduled to be a full participant in Wednesday's practice, and the Steelers are preparing for Justin Fields to make another start Sunday against the Chargers, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite being named the team's starting quarterback coming out of the preseason, Wilson has yet to make his Steelers debut while he's been unable to manage anything more than limited participation in practice since informing the coaching staff Sept. 5 that he was dealing with calf tightness. According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tomlin suggested that the same plan from last week is in place for Wilson this week, which means he'll likely remain a limited or non-participant in practices Wednesday through Friday before being inactive as the emergency No. 3 quarterback Sunday. Pryor notes that Tomlin said he was unwilling to commit to a permanent starting quarterback until Wilson is fully healthy, but so long as Fields keeps guiding the 2-0 Steelers to wins, he'll most likely rank as the preferred option. Fields has been an effective game manager through the first two weeks, presiding over a run-heavy offense while having yet to commit a turnover.
Sep 15, 2024
Emergency third QB Sunday
Wilson (calf) is inactive as the Steelers' emergency No. 3 quarterback Sunday against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was limited in practice this past week, before being officially listed as questionable for Week 2 action. However, as Wilson continues to deal with a calf injury, Justin Fields -- who helmed the Steelers 18-10 win over the Falcons in Week 1 -- is slated to make his second straight start for the team, with fellow QB Kyle Allen also on hand. Wilson's next chance to log a full practice listing for the first time during the regular season will occur Wednesday, when Pittsburgh begins to prepare for a Week 3 matchup versus the Chargers.
Sep 13, 2024
To be listed as questionable
Coach Mike Tomlin noted Friday that Wilson (calf) will be listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Broncos, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
While the Steelers plan to list Wilson as questionable, the chances of him starting in Week 2 don't appear especially strong, with Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com relaying that Tomlin noted Friday with regard to the signal-caller's status "obviously if his availability is questionable, then starting is less so." In any case, look for added context regarding the team's QB situation to surface ahead of Sunday's 4:25 ET kickoff. If Wilson is deemed not ready to play, Justin Fields would draw the starting assignment versus the Broncos.
Sep 12, 2024
Limited, but seems to be improving
Wilson (calf) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Wilson's limited participation represents no change from his level of activity in the Steelers' three practices since he first informed the coaching and training staff exactly one week ago that he aggravated a calf injury that first cropped up in training camp, the quarterback suggested after Thursday's session that he's noticing improvement in his condition. Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, Wilson said that he's "getting closer and closer" to playing again. Though Justin Fields still appears to be trending toward a second straight start this Sunday in Denver, the Steelers aren't yet ruling Wilson out from being available for the matchup with one of his former teams. At this stage, however, Wilson appears likely to reprise the role he filled in the Week 1 win over the Falcons, when he was inactive as the Steelers' emergency third quarterback behind Fields and backup Kyle Allen.
Sep 11, 2024
Officially limited Wednesday
Wilson (calf) was a limited participant in practice Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers are preparing as if Justin Fields will make a second consecutive start after Fields led Pittsburgh to an 18-10 Week 1 win over the Falcons, but it's encouraging that Wilson will be taking the practice field in some capacity. If Wilson's recovery continues to progress throughout the week, it's possible he could reclaim the starting role by Sunday's game in Denver. Wilson beat Fields in a preseason quarterback competition, so the veteran quarterback will presumably start once deemed healthy enough to do so.
Sep 10, 2024
Likely to miss out on another start
Head coach Mike Tomlin said that Wilson won't be a full practice participant Wednesday, adding that the Steelers are preparing Justin Fields for a second consecutive start Sunday in Denver, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
After reporting tightness in his calf during practice last Thursday, Wilson was a limited participant in Friday's practice and took a questionable tag into the Steelers' season opener versus the Falcons. He ultimately didn't show enough improvement leading up to Sunday to gain clearance to play, with the Steelers making Wilson inactive while Fields guided Pittsburgh to an 18-10 win in Atlanta. According to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Tomlin noted that while Wilson is feeling better than he did over the weekend, the veteran signal-caller won't be ready to take meaningful practice reps until Thursday. Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, Tomlin said that the Steelers will "ponder" Wilson's inclusion in the game plan for Sunday's contest in Denver depending on how he progresses as the week rolls along, but Fields is still likely to take most or all of the first-team reps in practice.
Sep 8, 2024
Deemed inactive for Week 1
Wilson (calf) is inactive as the Steelers' emergency No. 3 quarterback for Sunday's game against the Falcons, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Wilson campaigned to play in the Steelers' season opener, the team's coaching and training staffs ultimately decided to err on the side of caution and hold the quarterback out for Week 1 after he was a limited participant in practices Thursday and Friday due to the calf injury. Justin Fields will receive the start Sunday and will be backed up by Kyle Allen. Wilson's calf injury isn't believed to be overly significant, so if he's able to increase his practice activity during the upcoming week, he should be on track to make his first start with the Steelers next Sunday in Denver.
Sep 8, 2024
Not trending toward start
Wilson (calf) remains questionable for Sunday's game against the Falcons and is set to undergo further examination in the morning, but Justin Fields appears likelier than Wilson to start at quarterback for the Steelers as the 1 p.m. ET kickoff approaches, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Mike Tomlin had named Wilson the team's Week 1 starter following the preseason, only for the veteran signal-caller to experience calf tightness in Thursday's practice before getting in a limited session Friday. While Adam Schefter of ESPN reported late Saturday that Wilson had informed the Steelers' brass that he thinks he can play in the season opener, the team may be more inclined to take a cautious approach with him if he's operating at well below 100 percent health. In any case, official word on Wilson's status should arrive when the Steelers release their inactive list 90 minutes prior to kickoff. The Steelers have a third quarterback on hand in Kyle Allen and would be able to use him as the backup to Fields if Wilson can't go.
Sep 7, 2024
Status for Sunday still uncertain
Wilson (calf) has told the Steelers that he can play Sunday against Atlanta, but team doctors are being cautious, and the quarterback's status won't be determined until Sunday morning, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
A report earlier Saturday deemed Wilson's chances of playing Sunday to be "very slim," and Schefter's update neither confirms nor contradicts that perspective. Pittsburgh's decision-makers could feel more comfortable taking a cautious approach and holding the veteran quarterback out due to the presence of Justin Fields, who has ample starting experience in the NFL of his own and had some impressive moments during training camp and the exhibition slate. Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, Wilson intends to test his calf during pregame warmups Sunday and is intent on doing everything he can to be able to suit up for the Week 1 contest.
Sep 7, 2024
Chance of playing Sunday 'very slim'
Wilson (calf) is still hoping to play Sunday against Atlanta, but sources indicate that his likelihood of doing so is "very slim," according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
ANALYSIS
Wilson is officially listed as questionable for the contest, but this report creates considerable pessimism about the veteran quarterback's chance of making his regular-season Steelers debut in Week 1. Wilson reported experiencing tightness in his calf Thursday and was limited in practice both that day and Friday. He's slated to undergo continued treatment Saturday night and Sunday morning, and how he responds could ultimately determine whether Wilson is able to suit up against the Falcons. If he does end up missing the contest, Justin Fields is in line to take over as the starter in what would be his first regular-season action for Pittsburgh.
Sep 6, 2024
Officially questionable for Week 1
Wilson (calf), who was limited in practice Friday, is listed as questionable for Sunday's season opener against the Falcons, Teresa Varley of the Steelers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was also limited a day before after experiencing calf tightness at practice. "I just felt a little tight (on Thursday)," Wilson noted Friday. "I wanted to be smart about it. Obviously, we play the game on Sunday, I'm hoping I get to be in it. Just trying to try and get ready to go." At this stage, it looks as though Wilson's Week 1 status could emerge as a game-day call, though there should be added context on that front prior to Sunday's 1:00 ET kickoff. If he's unavailable for the contest, Justin Fields would draw the start at QB versus Atlanta.
Sep 6, 2024
Week 1 status TBD
Wilson (calf) hopes to play Sunday against the Falcons, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, who aggravated a previous calf injury Thursday, says that he's taking it day-by-day ahead of the contest. When asked if he expected to start Sunday, Wilson said "I'm trying to get my body ready to go and rock and roll. Just doing everything we can." If the QB -- who the Steelers figure to list as questionable -- is unavailable this weekend, Justin Fields would be in line to start in his place versus Atlanta.
Sep 6, 2024
At practice Friday
Wilson (calf) is present at practice Friday, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's practice participation level will be clarified later Friday, along with a possible injury designation ahead of Sunday's game against the Falcons, but it's a good sign that he's taking the practice field Friday after being limited by calf tightness Thursday. Barring a setback, Wilson's poised to make his Steelers debut Sunday, relegating Justin Fields to a backup role.
Sep 5, 2024
Dealing with calf tightness
Coach Mike Tomlin noted that Wilson was limited in practice Thursday after reporting calf tightness, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Though this information makes Wilson's status worth tracking ahead of Sunday's season opener against the Falcons, when asked if there was any long-term concern about the QB's calf issue, Tomlin said, "None." Look for added context to arrive no later than Friday's practice and/or the Steelers' ensuing injury report. If available, Wilson -- who is in line to have his calf evaluated further, per Pryor -- is slated to start this weekend and be backed up by Justin Fields.
Aug 28, 2024
Will start Week 1
The Steelers have decided on Wilson as their Week 1 starter against Atlanta, Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has long been considered the favorite over Justin Fields, who got a lot of the first-team snaps this summer while the 35-year-old dealt with a calf injury. Wilson has been practicing without limitations for three weeks now and even made a couple appearances in the preseason, confirming that his health won't be an issue come Week 1. He'll be in danger of losing the starting job to Fields if he doesn't play well, but a run-first offense under new coordinator Arthur Smith could hide some of Wilson's shortcomings at this later stage of his career.
Aug 24, 2024
Looks to be starter for Week 1
Wilson completed both of his passes for 26 yards in Saturday's 24-17 preseason loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Wilson started for the second consecutive game but played only one drive that ended in a rushing touchdown. Both of his passes went to George Pickens, the latter being an explosive 32-yard gain. Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, coach Mike Tomlin declined to name his starting quarterback for Week 1 against Atlanta, but it's expected that Wilson will get the nod. Even if that's the case, Wilson will likely need to play well to maintain the role over Justin Fields in the long term.
Aug 21, 2024
Expects to play Saturday
Wilson said Wednesday that he and other key players will play in Saturday's preseason game at Detroit, Chris Adamski of TribLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers apparently will deploy their first-string offense for a third time in as many preseason games, although in Wilson's case it'll be just his second appearance because he dealt with a calf injury in late July and early August. While Wilson is still considered a favorite to get the Week 1 start, Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette suggests the 35-year-old could split first-team reps with Justin Fields in Pittsburgh's final preseason game this Saturday.
Aug 18, 2024
Crushed by pass rush
Wilson completed eight of 10 passes for 47 yards in Saturday's 9-3 preseason loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's stat line was underwhelming, but it overstates how well Pittsburgh's first-team offense was able to move the ball. That wasn't necessarily on Wilson, as he was under constant pressure and sacked three times. He narrowly missed out on connecting with George Pickens near Buffalo's goal line on his final drive of the game, though the duo's rapport may be lacking after Wilson missed a significant amount of training camp with a calf injury. The Steelers have consistently stated that Wilson is the starting quarterback heading into the season, though this performance didn't do him any favors in his competition with Justin Fields.
Aug 15, 2024
To play about four series
Coach Mike Tomlin said Thursday that Wilson and the first-team offense will play roughly four series during Saturday's preseason game against the Bills, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tomlin said that the extent of Wilson's reps could change depending on Saturday's game, noting that "it's not etched in stone." Wilson is on track to start in his preseason debut for the Steelers, per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, but he and Justin Fields have continued to split first-team reps at practice. In fact, Pryor reports that Fields opened Thursday's practice with the first-team, an indication that this remains a true quarterback competition, though Wilson is still atop the depth chart.
Aug 9, 2024
In line to play Preseason Week 2
Coach Mike Tomlin said after Friday's preseason loss to the Texans that Wilson will suit up Saturday, Aug. 17 against the Bills, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers posted an unofficial depth chart Tuesday, which listed Wilson as the No. 1 quarterback ahead of Justin Fields, and Tomlin reiterated Wednesday that the order of the two players was "real," according to Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com. It was so real that Wilson didn't see the field in the team's exhibition opener Friday, while Fields started and completed five of six passes for 67 yards, turned three carries into two yards and fumbled twice (none lost) across three series. Look for Wilson to get the nod under center for Pittsburgh next weekend.
Aug 7, 2024
Won't play Friday, viewed as QB1 favorite
Wilson won't play in Friday's preseason game against Houston and still has so-called pole position to make the Week 1 start, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
When asked Wednesday if Wilson is still the favorite to start over Justin Fields, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin responded, "You guys saw the depth chart I released yesterday. That is real." The depth chart has Wilson listed as the starter and Fields as the backup, even though the latter has taken far more first-team reps this summer while the former has been limited by a calf injury. Wilson was a full practice participant Tuesday and still has plenty of time to build chemistry with the starters, but the preseason opener will be give Fields another chance to impress.
Aug 6, 2024
Resumes practicing in full
Wilson (calf) returned to practice as a full participant Tuesday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson had been managing a minor calf strain for nearly the last two weeks, which gave Justin Fields a chance to command Pittsburgh's first-team offense at training camp alone, but the veteran signal-caller is now back in the mix at practice. Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that Wilson and Fields are alternating reps to begin Tuesday's session, which can be considered confirmation of Adam Schefter of ESPN's recent report that the two remain in a competition for the Week 1 starting gig. Friday's preseason game against the Texans could serve as an opportunity for Wilson and/or Fields to pull ahead, if they do suit up for a series or two.
Aug 3, 2024
Still competing for starting role
Wilson (calf) remains in a competition with Justin Fields to serve as the Steelers' starting quarterback early in training camp, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has dealt with a calf injury over the first few days of training camp, which has allowed Fields to see increased playing time with the first-team offense. While coach Mike Tomlin recently indicated that "nothing has changed" in regards to Wilson being in "pole position" for the starting job, Fields has made plays with his arm and legs early in camp and could force the team's hand if his strong play continues throughout the rest of training camp and the preseason. Wilson recently returned to practice, but he's been brought along slowly as a precautionary measure, and his grasp on the starting job could slip if his injury lingers over the coming days and weeks.
Jul 30, 2024
Making progress
Wilson (calf) participated in practice Tuesday, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, who is bouncing back from a calf issue that has curbed his training camp participation, continues to progress incrementally and will be brought along slowly, per coach Mike Tomlin. "(Wilson) played some 7-on-7," Tomlin noted with regard to the QB's activity during Tuesday's session. "He got a little 11-on-11 work, not a lot. We'll keep progressing with that throughout the week and moving forward, obviously with the mindset of no steps backward as we do so." With Wilson having been limited at practice, fellow signal-caller Justin Fields has logged extra reps in the meantime.

Making progress
Wilson (calf) participated in practice Tuesday, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson, who is bouncing back from a calf issue that has curbed his training camp participation, will be brought along slowly, per coach Mike Tomlin. "(Wilson) played some 7-on-7," Tomlin noted with regard to the QB's activity during Tuesday's session. "He got a little 11-on-11 work, not a lot. With Wilson having been limited at practice, Justin Fields has logged extra reps with the first-team offense.
Jul 29, 2024
Progressing toward team drills
Coach Mike Tomlin noted that Wilson (calf), who was limited at Sunday's practice, is expected to work into some team drill next week, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Per DeFabo, Wilson is bouncing back from a calf injury that he sustained while pushing a sled during the Steelers' conditioning test, but the veteran QB was able participate in individual drills Sunday. In his absence, Justin Fields has handled first-team work, but once Wilson is able to practice fully, he'll look to solidify his presumed place atop the team's depth chart.
Jul 28, 2024
Limited work in individual drills
Wilson (calf) was sidelined during team sesssions for the fourth straight practice but was a limited participant during individual drills Sunday, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson did not participate during the Steelers' walkthrough Sunday morning and was expected to be a non-participant once again. However, he was active during some agility and throwing sessions later on in practice, which was more work than he's done during previous training camp practices. The 35-year-old still was still not fully suited up, as he wore a ballcap rather than a helmet, and he did not appear to be going full speed, per Pryor. Wilson is the presumed starter over Justin Fields at this point of the offseason, but the latter quarterback will likely need some live reps this training camp in order to separate himself in this competeition ahead of the first preseason game Aug. 9. The Steelers are scheduled to have a day off before returning for the team's first practicie in pads Tuesday, per Pryor. While the coaching staff will likely be overly cautious with him, Wilson's activity level Tuesday will be a good indicator of where he's at.
Jul 26, 2024
Injury downplayed, but no timetable
Wilson (calf) did not practice Friday and declined to put a timetable on his return, but said the injury is "nothing too serious," Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson said his calf injury, which coach Mike Tomlin described as tightness, was sustained while pushing a sled during conditioning tests. Per Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com, Tomlin said Friday's absence wasn't the result of a setback for Wilson, but that the Steelers are only taking a cautious approach "to keep a minor thing from becoming major," and Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the veteran QB could suit up if Pittsburgh had a game to play. Meanwhile, the situation has provided Justin Fields a chance to handle first-team reps, and potentially to begin building some momentum of his own in a quarterback competition that has thus far seemed strongly tilted in Wilson's favor. It remains to be seen how first-team snaps at the quarterback position will be split once Wilson returns to the field.
Jul 25, 2024
Held back by minor calf injury
Wilson missed Thursday's practice due to calf tightness and is considered day-to-day, Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports that Wilson wanted to practice but was held back by the coaching staff, which gave fellow offseason addition Justin Fields an opportunity to dominate first-team reps. The expectation remains that Wilson will be under center come Week 1, leading a remade offense with a new coordinator (Arthur Smith), two early draft picks on the O-line (OT Troy Fautanu, C Zach Frazier) and open competition for WR spots behind top option George Pickens.

Remains in lead for starter gig
Wilson remains the clear favorite to start Week 1 under center for Pittsburgh and has made a good impression on his new coaching staff throughout OTAs and June minicamp, Chris Ward of SteelersNow.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has impressed with arm talent and leadership throughout spring activities, per Mark Kaboldy of The Athletic, and he's reportedly dominated first-team reps to this point. Justin Fields could push for more opportunities during training camp, but for the time being, there's been nothing to suggest any shift from coach Mike Tomlin's remark early in the offseason that Wilson is in the "pole position" to start Week 1 under center. Experience and consistency alone could make enough difference for Wilson, a 35-year-old veteran, to win the starting gig over Fields, but he'll face pressure to keep Pittsburgh in the playoff race, given that he's only playing on a one-year contract.

Gets commitment from Tomlin
Head coach Mike Tomlin said Wilson is in "pole position" to open the 2024 season as the Steelers' starting quarterback, though Justin Fields will "have the opportunity to compete" with the nine-time Pro Bowler for the No. 1 role, Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com reports. "We've been very transparent about the pecking order, at least to start," Tomlin said Sunday. "I just think that provides clarity for all parties involved. Russell is a veteran, man. He's got a proven process of readiness. He's been in this league
ANALYSIS
Addressing the Steelers' overhauled quarterback room for the first time following the signing of Wilson and trade acquisition of Fields earlier this month, Tomlin's comments about the situation didn't deviate much from prior reports, which suggested that Pittsburgh was viewing Wilson as its top option on the depth chart. The fact that Tomlin said that Fields will get the chance to compete for the starting role is noteworthy, though it would likely take an injury or poor showing in the offseason program and training camp for Wilson to lose the gig. Though Wilson should thus head into OTAs with some security, he's still only under contract for 2024, and his standing on the depth chart could become shakier if Pittsburgh gets off to a poor start to the season and eventually shifts into evaluation mode while a playoff berth falls out of reach.

Will start over Fields next season
Wilson is expected to be Pittsburgh's starting QB next season despite the team's trade for Justin Fields on Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers swung a trade with Chicago to acquire Fields on Saturday one day after officially inking Wilson to a one-year contract, but it appears that the acquisition won't impact Wilson's standing as the team's starting quarterback next season. As such, 25-year-old Fields is slated to serve in a backup role to 35-year-old Wilson, who is coming off a pair of underwhelming campaigns with Denver. It remains to be seen how the trade for Fields could impact Pittsburgh's QB plans beyond this year, though at minimum this means that the Steelers have a talented and experienced signal-caller waiting in the wings should Wilson experience an injury or struggle to ignite the team's passing game.

Left as only QB on roster
The Steelers traded Kenny Pickett to the Eagles a few hours after Wilson signed his one-year contract with Pittsburgh, ESPN's Brooke Pryor reports.
ANALYSIS
The move leaves Wilson as Pittsburgh's only QB under contract, at least temporarily. Pickett reportedly expressed displeasure with the decision to sign Wilson, likely figuring he'd be a long shot to beat out the 35-year-old for a starting job. Wilson was a strong favorite for the Week 1 start even with Pickett on the team, and none of the available free agents would seem to pose any threat to Wilson's standing atop the depth chart if signed. The only potential hurdles at this point are a trade for Justin Fields or an early draft pick coming in at the position -- and even in those scenarios Wilson would still have a good chance to make the Week 1 start.
Mar 15, 2024
Officially signs with Pittsburgh
The Steelers signed Wilson to a one-year contract Friday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was officially released by the Broncos on Wednesday with a post-June 1 designation, paving the way for the 35-year-old to ink a deal with Pittsburgh on Friday. With Mason Rudolph having signed on with the Titans, Wilson and 2022 first-rounder Kenny Pickett are currently the only two signal callers on the Steelers' roster. The two are thus in line to compete for the team's starting job in the coming months, though at this stage, Wilson profiles as the favorite to land the assignment, per Mike DeFabo of the Athletic. Meanwhile, in the wake of the departures of Diontae Johnson and Allen Robinson, WR George Pickens and TE Pat Freiermuth, along with RB Jaylen Warren, are Pittsburgh's top returning pass-catching options.
Mar 10, 2024
Planning to sign with Pittsburgh
Wilson plans to sign a one-year contract with the Steelers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
According to Schefter, it will be a "team-friendly" deal, with the Broncos being on the hook for most of his $38 million salary in 2024. Wilson still hasn't even officially been released by Denver, but it sounds like he's already found his new team. The moves should become official when the new league year opens Wednesday afternoon. In Pittsburgh, Wilson will link up with new OC Arthur Smith and be the heavy favorite to open the 2024 season as the Steelers' starter over former first-round pick Kenny Pickett. For fantasy purposes, it's not a great landing spot in Smith's run-centric, methodical offense, but Wilson should be viewed as an upgrade over Pickett. Wilson's insertion does boost the fantasy stocks of George Pickens, Diontae Johnson and Pat Freiermuth.

Going to Pittsburgh after Giants visit
Wilson is traveling to Pittsburgh on Friday to meet with the Steelers' front office and head coach Mike Tomlin, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has permission to meet with other teams but can't technically sign a contract until the Broncos release him at the start of the league year (Wednesday). Multiple Pittsburgh beat writers have suggested the Steelers want to give 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett another shot as the starting quarterback, but most of what we've seen from Pickett suggests that even this post-prime version of Wilson would give the team a better chance to win in 2024. An offset in Wilson's Denver contract means he has no incentive to maximize his 2024 pay from a new team, so he'll likely choose his next destination based on some combination of likelihood to start, chances of making a playoff run and post-2024 compensation. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Wilson already had an "exploratory meeting" with the Giants earlier this week.
Mar 7, 2024
Expected to meet with Steelers
The Steelers are "tentatively planning" to meet with Wilson before the start of free agency, Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
The Broncos have given Wilson permission to talk with other teams even though he won't be released until March 13, the start of the 2024 league year. While previous reports out of Pittsburgh suggested the Steelers were ready to move forward with Kenny Pickett and maybe Mason Rudolph as their quarterbacks, the upcoming meeting with Wilson suggests there's at least some level of interest in bringing in a new starter. The decision may end up coming down to financials more so than confidence (or lack thereof) in Pickett. If nothing gets done in Pittsburgh, other potential suitors for Wilson could include the Raiders and Falcons.
Mar 4, 2024
Broncos officially moving on
Denver announced Monday that Wilson has been informed he will be released by the team after the NFL's new league year begins March 13.
ANALYSIS
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Wilson's release will save the Broncos an extra $37 million in guaranteed money, while Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com notes that the team will still need to endure an NFL-record $85 million in dead cap over the next two years. Those financial ramifications highlight the extent to which Wilson's two-year stint in Denver was characterized by disappointment. The veteran ended the 2023 campaign with 297 completions on 447 pass attempts for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 15 games, numbers which may have seemed merely mediocre were it not for his sizable salary compensation, and the valuable draft picks the Broncos parted ways with for his acquisition from Seattle. When free agency officially begins, Wilson will get a chance to search for a fresh start elsewhere, while coach Sean Payton and Denver will once again have to start anew at the quarterback position.
Feb 27, 2024
Decision coming in next two weeks
Coach Sean Payton said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that a decision on Wilson's future with the Broncos will come "in the next two weeks," Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson may realistically be released before the start of the new league year March 13, but Payton's comments suggest that a decision on the veteran's future in Denver won't come down to the wire of that deadline. If Wilson is released, the Broncos will carry an $85 million dead-money cap hit, making the decision a difficult one, especially given that the contract involved likely eliminates the possibility of an eager trade partner emerging. Payton also referenced the Broncos' recent history of QB woes, stating "our job is to make sure this next one doesn't have a line through it," per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. While it doesn't seem like a final decision of Wilson's future has yet been made, the fact that Payton is already thinking about the "next one" under center could be read as a strong hint that the former Seahawk's release is likely.
Jan 10, 2024
Future uncertain in Denver
Wilson is expected to be released by the Broncos before the new league year begins in March, but no final decision has been made, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In just his second year in Denver, it appears likely that Wilson and the Broncos are headed towards a split. According to Legwold, the veteran quarterback's potential release would result in an $85 million dead money charge for the Broncos, the largest for a single player since the salary cap was instituted. Despite the sense that Wilson will be released, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports that head coach Sean Payton asserts that a decision on Wilson has not been made, but it won't be drawn out. According to Stevens, general manager George Paton went as far to say "the door is open" for the 35-year-old signal caller to return. Wilson finished the 2023 campaign completing 297 of 447 pases for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and just eight interceptions in 15 games. In addition, he was use more as a rusher this season, rushing 80 times for 341 yards and three touchdowns. Overall, the season was a step in the right direction for the Broncos offense after a disappointing start to Wilson's time in Denver in 2022. His p

Will serve as Stidham's backup
Wilson will be the backup to Jarrett Stidham against the Chargers on Sunday, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Broncos plan to bench Wilson for the final two games of the season to avoid any potential injuries and thus preserve the ability to cut him before March 2024, when Wilson's $37 million salary for 2025 becomes guaranteed. Wilson won't be inactive, though, so he could still wind up taking the field if Stidham gets hurt. Coach Sean Payton could provide further insight into the team's quarterback situation when he speaks to the media after Wednesday's practice.
Dec 27, 2023
Set to be benched
The Broncos plan to have Wilson sit out the team's final two games, with an eye toward preserving financial flexibility for the upcoming offseason, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Per Rapoport, Wilson has $37 million in 2025 salary that vests in March of 2024, and if the QB were to suffer a serious injury before the end of the current season, it would complicate matters for the 7-8 Broncos in terms of finances. With Wilson set to be benched ahead of Sunday's game against the Chargers, Jarrett Stidham is slated to handle Denver's starting QB reps in Week 17.
Dec 25, 2023
Late comeback attempt falls short
Wilson completed 25 of 37 pass attempts for 237 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 20 yards on four carries in Sunday's 26-23 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Wilson caught fire in the fourth quarter with a pair of touchdown passes and accompanying two-point conversions to bring the Broncos back from a 23-7 deficit. The late-game magician was unable to pull a third consecutive scoring drive out of his hat, leaving just enough time for the Patriots to win the game with a field goal. Wilson finished with a solid fantasy line while committing zero turnovers for the first time since Week 11. He will try to keep the Broncos' faint playoff hopes alive against the Chargers on Dec. 31.
Dec 17, 2023
Two touchdowns in blowout loss
Wilson completed 18 of 32 passes for 223 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Saturday's 42-17 loss to the Lions. He added seven rushes for six yards and an additional score while also losing a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Wilson had an ugly start to the game, completing only four of 10 passes for 69 yards in the first two quarters. He ended up with a decent fantasy performance thanks to garbage time, as the Broncos were down by three scores for nearly the entire second half. He started that effort with a three-yard touchdown pass to Lil'Jordan Humphrey early in the third quarter and then snuck into the end zone on a one-yard rush midway through the fourth quarter. Wilson has multiple touchdowns in each of his last four games, but this marked only the second time in that span that he's topped 200 passing yards. The Broncos will likely remain reliant upon their run game, particularly in a Week 16 matchup against a weak Patriots offense.
Dec 10, 2023
Throws two TDs in Week 14 win
Wilson completed 21 of 33 passes for 224 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 24-7 win over the Chargers. He added six rushing attempts for five yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's first pass of the game was picked off deep in Denver territory, but he got a mulligan after the Chargers proceeded to turn it over on downs. He should have had a touchdown to Jerry Jeudy in the final seconds of the first half, but Jeudy failed to get his feet down along the sideline in the end zone, so the Broncos had to settle for a field goal to take a 10-0 lead into the locker room. Wilson broke it open with a 46-yard touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton in the third quarter, then finished off the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Adam Trautman. The veteran quarterback will take a 23:8 TD:INT into Saturday's game in Detroit, with half of those interceptions coming in the last two games.
Dec 3, 2023
Three turnovers in loss
Wilson completed 15 of his 26 passes for 186 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Texans. He added 10 rushes for 44 yards and an additional score.
ANALYSIS
Wilson performed admirably for much of the game and led a comeback effort for the Broncos with a 45-yard touchdown pass to Courtland Sutton as well a score of his own on a quarterback sneak. However, he undid all of that work with three interceptions in the final 16 minutes of game time, including one that sealed the loss from the Texans' eight-yard line with only 16 seconds remaining. Wilson entered the game having not thrown an interception since Week 6, though he picked a costly time for his mistakes. He also has only one passing touchdown in three consecutive games.
Nov 26, 2023
Produces two TDs in win
Wilson completed 13 of 22 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown while adding 34 rushing yards and a TD on 11 carries in Sunday's 29-12 win over the Browns. He also committed two fumbles, losing one.
ANALYSIS
The Denver passing game didn't need to get too frisky due to the struggles of the Cleveland offense, but Wilson ran in his first rushing touchdown of the season in the second quarter as the Broncos built a 14-0 lead, and he hit Adam Trautman for an eight-yard score early in the fourth to help salt the game away. The veteran quarterback has topped 200 passing yards only once in the last seven games, but his 20:4 TD:INT on the year would be one of the best ratios of his career if he can maintain it down the stretch. Wilson gets a more favorable matchup in Week 13 against a Texans defense that just gave up 364 passing yards to Trevor Lawrence -- a season high for the Jaguars QB.
Nov 20, 2023
Saves best for last
Wilson completed 27 of 35 pass attempts for 259 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-20 win over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was efficient in spreading his 35 pass attempts around to eight different receivers Sunday, but he still found himself needing a touchdown with minutes left in the eventual win. The 35-year-old completed a methodical two-minute drill that ended with a touch pass that wideout Courtland Sutton wrangled in for the game-winning score. After a horrific start to his career in Denver, Wilson and new head coach Sean Payton have got the Broncos back close to a .500 record heading into next Sunday's tilt against the Browns. Fantasy managers rostering multiple QBs may want to explore their alternative options, as the Browns' defense presents a tough matchup in what projects to be a low-scoring affair in Week 12.
Nov 14, 2023
Avoids mistakes in road win
Wilson completed 24 of 29 passes for 193 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Monday's 24-22 win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
For the second consecutive game, Denver used a run-heavy offensive approach to deliver an upset win. Wilson still played a key role, connecting on touchdowns from seven and three yards away to Courtland Sutton and Javonte Williams, respectively. He also played well when needed, as he led a go-ahead drive in the middle of the fourth quarter and then ran an effective drive in the two-minute offense to set up the game-winning field goal as time expired. Wilson hasn't attempted 30 passes since Week 5, but in four games since, he's thrown seven touchdowns as opposed to only two interceptions.
Oct 29, 2023
Throws three TDs despite low usage
Wilson completed 12 of 19 pass attempts for 114 yards and three touchdowns adding 30 rushing yards on eight attempts with one lost fumble in Sunday's 24-9 win over Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
In a surprising turn of events, Wilson managed to outduel Patrick Mahomes (241 yards, zero TDs, three TOs) despite failing to reach 20 pass attempts for the first time since joining the Broncos. The veteran posted another paltry yardage total after finishing below 200 yards in previous three contests, but his three scores helped mask that from a fantasy perspective. Wilson will now enter a bye week before resuming play as a mid-tier fantasy option against the Bills for Monday Night Football in Week 10.
Oct 22, 2023
Helps team to victory
Wilson completed 20 of 29 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 19-17 win over the Packers. He also rushed once for 21 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has now gone three straight games with under 200 passing yards. Unlike his ugly, 95-yard, two-interception performance in Week 6, though, Wilson avoided any turnovers Sunday, helping Denver clinch its second win. With an 18-yard touchdown to Courtland Sutton to boot, Wilson's improvement offers some encouragement ahead of a tough matchup versus the Chiefs in Week 8.
Oct 12, 2023
Worrisome numbers in Week 6 loss
Wilson completed 13 of 22 passes for 95 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions while also rushing four times for 31 yards in the Broncos' 19-8 loss to the Chiefs on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's final passing line, which included two interceptions in Chiefs territory, essentially sums up his night, and Thursday's numbers were, literally, a new low. Wilson had never thrown for under 100 yards and two interceptions in his career, and after also having passed for under 200 yards in Sunday's loss to the Jets, there could well be rumblings about a possible swap-out at quarterback for Jarrett Stidham, especially with Wilson and presumptive No. 1 receiver Jerry Jeudy having negligible chemistry at the moment. With a few extra days of prep time ahead of a Week 7 home matchup against the Packers on Sunday, Oct. 22, head coach Sean Payton may indeed determine it may be an opportune time to try and go in a new direction under center.
Oct 9, 2023
Throws two TDs in defeat
Wilson completed 20 of 31 pass attempts for 196 yards and two touchdowns while rushing seven times for 49 yards in Sunday's 31-21 loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Wilson produced a solid fantasy line in a tough matchup despite failing to lead his team to victory. The 34-year-old didn't throw an interception, but did lose one of Denver's three fumbles Sunday. While the Broncos remain in the league's cellar at 1-4 this season, the addition of head coach Sean Payton has at least resulted in improved play under center. Wilson has amassed 1,210 passing yards with 11 touchdowns to two interceptions through five games, which is a marked improvement over the start he got off to last season. Wilson must quickly shift his focus to the Chiefs for a Week 6 matchup against the defending Super Bowl champions on Thursday Night Football.
Oct 1, 2023
Trows three TDs in comeback win
Wilson completed 21 of 28 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns in Sunday's 31-28 win over Chicago.
ANALYSIS
Wilson opened the scoring with an 18-yard touchdown pass on a screen to Jaleel McLaughlin, but Chicago responded with four unanswered touchdowns before Wilson cut the deficit to 28-14 with a four-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Johnson. The veteran quarterback added a 13-yard touchdown to Courtland Sutton in the fourth quarter, which was followed by a Denver defensive score to tie it up, a Denver field goal and a Justin Fields interception to end it. After picking up their first win under coach Sean Payton, Wilson and the Broncos will look to build on this victory in a Week 5 home game against the Jets. Payton's arrival has had a positive impact on Wilson's production, as Wilson has a 9:2 TD:INT through four games in 2023 after posting a disappointing 16:11 TD:INT across 15 starts in his first season with the Broncos.
Sep 24, 2023
Over 300-yard mark in record loss
Wilson completed 23 of 38 passes for 306 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Broncos' 70-20 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Wilson authored what could arguably be the quietest 300-yard performance in history within the context of the game setting it transpired in. The veteran signal-caller was naturally overshadowed by numerous individual standout efforts on the opposite sideline, and by Miami's NFL-record 70 points overall. However, zooming in on Wilson's performance reveals a second straight encouraging performance from the recently maligned multi-time Pro Bowler, who connected with seven different targets on the afternoon and tossed a 12-yard touchdown to Courtland Sutton in the first quarter. Wilson now has a 6:1 TD:INT through his first three games and back-to-back 300-yard efforts for the first time since Weeks 3 and 4 of the 2020 season, sending him into a Week 4 road matchup with the Bears with plenty of momentum.
Sep 17, 2023
Posts vintage line in loss
Wilson completed 18 of 32 pass attempts for 308 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 35-33 loss to Washington. He added 56 rushing yards on six attempts.
ANALYSIS
Wilson turned back the clock and posted a stat line we haven't seen since his days in Seattle. It was the first time the 34-year-old threw for 300 yards with multiple scores since joining Denver last season. Wilson came out with a more-aggressive mindset as a passer and runner following an underwhelming debut under head coach Sean Payton in Week 1. He connected for two deep scores to Marvin Mims Jr. and Brandon Johnson, and his 56 rushing yards would have been the second-highest total from his entire 2022 game log. Wilson can regain a chunk of his depleted fantasy value if he can maintain this playstyle going forward, starting with a road matchup against the Dolphins next Sunday.
Sep 10, 2023
Mistake-free but quiet in loss
Wilson completed 27 of 34 passes for 177 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and added one rush for one yard in the Broncos' 17-16 loss to the Raiders on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's first full game running new head coach Sean Payton's scheme resulted in a largely unremarkable performance save for his pair of five-yard touchdown passes to Courtland Sutton and Lil'Jordan Humphrey. The veteran signal-caller's numbers were otherwise mostly indistinguishable and even less robust than many of his disappointing 2022 stat lines, and the fact the lackluster season-opening performance came against a vulnerable defense in that of the Raiders' adds to the fantasy-related concerns. However, the fact Wilson was without his presumptive No. 1 receiver in Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) certainly played a part in his modest numbers, and he'll have an opportunity to up his production in a Week 2 home matchup versus the Commanders.

Not expected to play
Wilson and most of Denver's other starters aren't expected to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson played in Denver's first two preseason games and completed 10 of 19 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown. He may not have top receiver Jerry Jeudy (hamstring) in the lineup when the Broncos host the Raiders in Week 1.
Aug 20, 2023
Plays just one drive Saturday
Wilson completed three of his six pass attempts for 24 yards and rushed for 25 yards on three carries in Saturday's preseason tilt against San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Sean Payton said that Wilson and the starters would see 20 to 24 snaps against the 49ers, but he wound up limiting his starting quarterback to the opening drive (10 plays). There is no injury to report here, as Payton may simply have changed his mind mid-game. Wilson didn't do much from the pocket, but he did break off a 17-yard scamper, something we have seen less of from the 34-year-old in the later stages of his career. Wilson saw his stock drop farther than any player following his putrid 2022 campaign, so expectations should be lowered heading into the second year of a five-year, $245 million contract.
Aug 17, 2023
Expected to play 20-24 snaps Saturday
Coach Sean Payton noted after Thursday's practice that Denver's starters are slated to play "somewhere between ''20 and 24 plays'' in Saturday's preseason game against the 49ers, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports. In last Friday's preseason opener against the Cardinals, Wilson logged 20 snaps.
ANALYSIS
It remains to be seen how the Broncos plan to use key players in their preseason finale, but this weekend the team's key healthy starters are once again in line to see work, with the report also noting that RB Javonte Williams -- who is bouncing back from ACL surgery -- is in line to see action on 10-12 plays. Against Arizona last week, Wilson completed seven of 13 pass attempts for 93 yards and a touchdown before being relieved by Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci.
Aug 12, 2023
Finishes first exhibition strong
Wilson completed seven of 13 pass attempts for 93 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason loss to the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Wilson and most of the starters wound up playing 22 snaps on offense (four drives) after head coach Sean Payton said that they would be limited to 15 prior to kickoff. Perhaps Denver's starters refused to end the day after their first drive resulted in a three-and-out, which was then followed by two missed field goals (12 and 40 yards) off the leg of new kicker Brett Maher. The decision to send the starters back out there a fourth time turned out to be a smart one when the 34-year-old Wilson drove the team down the field and threw a 21-yard strike to Jerry Jeudy for a touchdown, which completely shifted the narrative of how the starters looked under Payton for the first time. Wilson still has a long road ahead in terms of restoring his status as a superstar, or even as a starting option in fantasy, but this was a start.
Aug 7, 2023
Starters to see 15 snaps Friday
Coach Sean Payton said Wilson and the Broncos' first-team offense are in line to see roughly 15 snaps during Friday's preseason opener against the Cardinals, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson will be on debut for the first time since his rough 2022 campaign Friday, albeit in limited preseason action. Still, it will be worthwhile to track whether Denver's offense is able to operate more smoothly with Payton calling the shots, even if only for a series or two. Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci will be in line to take the field after Wilson finishes up under center in Arizona.
Aug 7, 2023
In line to see preseason work
Coach Sean Payton noted Saturday that the Broncos' starters, including Wilson, are slated to see playing time during the preseason, Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
With that in mind, Wilson is among the team's healthy key players who are candidates to see snaps in Friday night's preseason opener against the Cardinals. In the event that he does log snaps in the contest, we wouldn't expect it to be a long appearance for Wilson, with fellow QBs Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci also on track to see action versus Arizona.

Showing improved mobility
Wilson is seemingly in better shape than last season and could utilize his mobility more in 2023, Jon Heath of BroncosWire reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson appears poised to get back to a more mobile playing style that made him such a dynamic quarterback in Seattle for the first nine years of his career. In 2022, however, the veteran posted just 55 rushes for 277 yards, accounting for his second-lowest single-season total in rushing attempts and third-lowest in rushing yards. With Wilson losing weight this offseason, head coach Sean Payton has allowed his franchise quarterback to scramble and practice off-script plays. "I'm comfortable when I see him climbing [the pocket] and taking off because one of those plays is like a 30-yard gain," Payton said. "When something breaks down and he flushes, a lot of the time good things happen. You have to practice that and get everyone on the same page when it happens," he added. It's clear the Broncos are committed to giving Wilson the freedom to move around more this season, a departure from Nathaniel Hackett's offensive scheme that seemed to restrict the 34-year-old to the pocket. A return to form for Wilson could

Healthy and lean at OTAs
Wilson (knee) is participating in OTAs and said he feels "leaner and meaner" after losing some weight in the offseason, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Fitness was the least of his problems last year, but it's at least good to hear Wilson is healthy and feeling strong after having arthroscopic surgery on his knee this winter. The Denver offense has a bunch of other players coming back from more serious injuries/surgeries, namely RB Javonte Williams (ACL), LT Garret Bolles (broken leg) and WRs Tim Patrick (ACL) and KJ Hamler (torn pectoral). Even so, Wilson should be set up better under new coach Sean Payton than he was last year with Nathaniel Hackett, aided by pricey additions at left guard (Ben Powers) and right tackle (Mike McGlinchey) and a second-round pick at wide receiver (Marvin Mims). Any issues with the knee didn't seem to impact Wilson's mobility much last year, as a 55-277-3 rushing line in 15 games was an improvement from 43-183-2 in 14 games his final season in Seattle.

Wilson is reportedly already working out and throwing following his knee procedure, so it looks like there aren't any real concerns about his health heading into the offseason program. The Broncos are hoping that new head coach Sean Payton will be able to facilitate a bounce-back from Wilson in the 2023 season, after the multi-time Pro Bowler finished with just 3,524 passing yards and a 16:11 TD:INT ratio in 2022 despite suiting up for 15 games. It's possible that Wilson's subpar play can be blamed partially on his battling injuries, so it will be good to see him enter the 2023 campaign at full health.
Jan 8, 2023
Positive end to poor season
Wilson completed 13 of 24 passes for 283 yards with three touchdowns and one interception and rushed eight times for 18 yards in the Broncos' 31-28 in over the Chargers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's efficiency was off the charts in terms of completion-to-yardage ratio, the product of averaging 11.8 yards per attempt. The veteran signal-caller's touchdown passes went to the unorthodox trio of Eric Tomlinson (three yards), Tyler Badie (24 yards) and Courtland Sutton (20 yards), but he still took a pair of sacks and struggled with his accuracy. Wilson has already vowed to do a top-to-bottom evaluation of his offseason preparation in order to put together an exponentially better 2023, and rumblings that offensive guru Sean Payton will be discussing the team's head coaching job with Broncos brass gives the multi-time Pro Bowler's outlook a potential boost for the time being.
Jan 1, 2023
Three total touchdowns in loss
Wilson completed 26 of 38 pass attempts for 222 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 27-24 loss to the Chiefs. He added 27 rushing yards and two touchdowns on four attempts.
ANALYSIS
After a disastrous Week 16, Wilson bounced back with his second solid fantasy performance against Kansas City this season. Prior to Sunday, the veteran rushed for just one touchdown all season. Wilson's mobility has always been a major part of his game, so the use of his legs to find the end zone was certainly a welcome sight. With that said, the Broncos have a lot to figure out on offense ahead of next season with Wilson at the helm. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Wilson plans to examine his preparation and offseason routine to avoid having another disappointing season. If the 34-year-old signal caller can stack this outing with another strong fantasy performance in Week 18 against the Chargers, it may give fantasy managers a glimmer of hope for Wilson to have a possible resurgence next season.

Still in team's long-term plan
Broncos CEO Greg Penner said Tuesday that Wilson is still central to the team's long-term plan and is expected to rebuond in 2023, ESPN.com's Jeff Legwold reports.
ANALYSIS
The in-season firing of first-year coach Nathaniel Hackett has led to speculation Wilson could be the next be the next big name headed out of Denver, even though he signed a five-year, $245 million extension in early September. The more likely scenario is one where Wilson finishes out the final two weeks of the season under interim coach Jerry Rosburg before getting a fresh start in the offseason with a new coaching staff. Rosburg confirmed Wednesday that Wilson will start Sunday's game against the Chiefs, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Dec 25, 2022
Woes continue with three picks
Wilson completed 15 of 27 pass attempts for 214 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions in Sunday's 51-14 blowout loss to the Rams. He added 17 rushing yards on two attempts.
ANALYSIS
Wilson returned from a one-game layoff due to a concussion, but his fantasy managers are probably wishing he sat this one out based on the poor results. The 34-year-old showed some signs of life in his last start against the Chiefs when he threw three touchdowns for the first time this year, but he followed that up with his first three-interception game in this horrid loss. Wilson was pulled for Brett Rypien late in the contest, but the backup didn't fare much better than the player he replaced (4/8, 45 yards, INT). Assuming the Broncos stick with their $245 million quarterback in Week 17, Wilson will try to recapture the success he experienced against the Chiefs in Week 14 when the two clubs meet on Jan. 1.
Dec 21, 2022
Not listed on injury report
Wilson (concussion) isn't listed on the Week 16 injury report ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Wilson cleared concussion protocol last week but was held out of an eventual win over the Cardinals anyway. He'll now return to the starting job, as confirmed by coach Nathaniel Hackett on Wednesday.
Dec 21, 2022
Full go this week, per coach
Coach Nathaniel Hackett indicated Wednesday that Wilson (concussion) is "full go" as Sunday's game against the Rams approaches, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site, Wilson has already passed the NFL's concussion protocol, but the team elected to err on the side of caution with the QB in Week 15, with Brett Rypien starting in his place in this past Sunday's win over the Cardinals. Barring any setbacks, Wilson is slated to return to action this weekend, a notion that would solidified by an official full practice listing Wednesday.
Dec 16, 2022
Won't play this week
Wilson (concussion) won't play Sunday against the Cardinals, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The report relays that Wilson has progressed through the NFL's concussion protocol, but coach Nathaniel Hackett noted Friday that "as an organization, we've decided to give him another week." As a result, Brett Rypien will draw the start at QB for the Broncos this weekend, while Wilson will target a return to action in Week 16 against the Rams.
Dec 15, 2022
Set to log limited practice
Wilson (concussion) is slated to practice in a limited fashion Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson didn't practice Wednesday, so the QB's looming limited participation Thursday is a step in the right direction for him in advance of Sunday's game against the Cardinals. However, the signal caller will need to fully progress through the NFL's concussion protocol in order to gain clearance to play this weekend. If that doesn't happen, Brett Rypien would be in line to fill in for Wilson in Week 15.
Dec 14, 2022
Not practicing
Wilson (concussion) won't practice Wednesday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Neither will WR Courtland Sutton, who missed Sunday's loss to the Chiefs with a hamstring injury, per Troy Renck of Denver 7 News. Renck also notes that Wilson is doing some form of physical activity, which suggests he's making progress in the concussion protocol even if he isn't ready to practice. The Broncos will turn to Brett Rypien under center if Wilson isn't ready for Sunday's matchup with Arizona.
Dec 13, 2022
Remains in protocol
Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett confirmed following Sunday's 34-28 loss to the Chiefs that Wilson is in the concussion protocol, clouding the quarterback's status for the team's Week 15 game versus Arizona, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports. "We'll go through the step-by-step process and do it the right way," Hackett said, regarding Wilson's potential to play this Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Per Legwold, Wilson said he "felt great" when he was examined by the Broncos' team medical staff Monday, but his availability for this weekend's contest against the Cardinals will ultimate hinge on him gaining clearance from an independent neurologist. Wilson, who suffered the head injury early in the fourth quarter when he was tackled hard to the ground on a scramble, doesn't have a history of suffering from documented concussions, but given his sizable contract along with the fact that Denver has been eliminated from playoff contention, the team could have some motivation to hold the signal-caller out for its final four contests. At this point, Hackett suggested that the Broncos will take things "day by day" with Wilson. Brett Rypien stepped in to play the final 12 minutes of the Week 14 contest and would presumably start Sunday against Arizona if Wilson is ruled out in advance of the game.
Dec 11, 2022
Tests confirm concussion
Wilson has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's game against the Chiefs due to a concussion, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson stayed down with a glazed look in his eyes after taking a big hit. He got up and went into the blue medical tent, then subsequently the locker room for concussion testing while sporting a noticeable welt on his forehead. The testing confirmed a concussion, so Brett Rypien will lead Denver's offense the rest of the way Sunday. Wilson will need to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol to suit up against the Cardinals in Week 15.
Dec 11, 2022
Being evaluated for concussion
Wilson left Sunday's contest versus the Chiefs after hitting his head hard on the turf at the end of a scramble in the fourth quarter, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson remained on the ground for a spell before slowly making his way to the sideline tent and eventually the locker room, per Nick Kosmider of The Athletic. The Broncos announced shortly thereafter that Wilson was being evaluated for a concussion, which, if confirmed, will end his Week 14 with 247 yards, three touchdowns and one interception on 23-for-36 passing and four carries for 57 yards.
Dec 4, 2022
Underwhelming in latest loss
Wilson completed 17 of 22 passes for 189 yards with no touchdown or interceptions in the Broncos' 10-9 loss to the Ravens on Sunday. He also rushed twice for 21 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's snake-bitten first season in Denver continued in trademark fashion Sunday, with the Broncos blowing a late lead despite the Ravens losing Lamar Jackson to a knee injury early and both Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy available to open the game. However, Sutton eventually exited with a hamstring injury, once again leaving Wilson with a makeshift receiving corps against a tough defense. Consequently, points were once again at a premium, and Tyler Huntley was able to ultimately able to help lead Baltimore to a game-winning touchdown on a marathon 16-play drive. Wilson was able to get the Broncos into position to attempt a 63-yard field goal with two seconds remaining, but that attempt came up short. Factoring in Sutton's injury, Wilson will head into a Week 14 home matchup against the Chiefs likely undermanned significantly at receiver once again.
Nov 27, 2022
Struggles continue in Week 12 loss
Wilson completed 19 of 35 passes for 142 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 23-10 loss to the Panthers. He added eight yards on two rushing attempts and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's struggles continued in the first half, as he threw for only 53 yards and fumbled just outside the red zone en route to a 10-3 halftime deficit. Things didn't get much better after halftime outside of a one-yard touchdown pass to rookie Brandon Johnson late in the fourth. Wilson's underwhelming play is the primary reason for Denver's ugly 3-8 record heading into a Week 13 trip to Baltimore.
Nov 20, 2022
Efficient in loss
Wilson completed 24 of 31 passes for 247 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 22-16 loss to the Raiders. He added one rush for eight yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has produced varying degrees of efficiency this season, though he put together a strong performance in that regard by averaging 8.0 yards per attempt. However, his fantasy production remained uninspiring due to his lack of touchdowns, and he still has tallied multiple touchdowns in only one game this season. More positively, after topping 240 passing yards only once in his first four contests, Wilson has topped that mark in four of his last five matchups.
Nov 13, 2022
Performance regresses
Wilson completed 21 of his 42 passes for 286 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 17-10 loss to the Titans. He added eight rushing yards on seven attempts.
ANALYSIS
Wilson turned in his highest yardage total since Week 1 but that was mostly due to volume as he averaged only 6.8 yards per attempt. Much of that damage came on a 66-yard touchdown strike to Jalen Virgil, which came midway through the second quarter -- one of his two completions of more than 20 yards. Wilson lost Jerry Jeudy (ankle) on Denver's first offensive play-- an explanation for some of hi struggles -- but he's failed to throw for multiple touchdowns in seven of eight games this season and has surpassed 300 passing yards just once.
Oct 30, 2022
Shows improved efficiency
Wilson completed 18 of 30 passes for 252 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 21-17 win over the Jaguars. He added four rushes for 17 yards.
ANALYSIS
In contrast to Denver's Week 6 loss, Wilson got off to a slow start in Sunday's win, as he had 19 passing yards and an interception through the team's first three offensive possessions. However, he managed to effectively distribute the ball from there, particularly to Jerry Jeudy and Greg Dulcich while also finding KJ Hamler for a 47-yard gain to set up the game-winning touchdown. Wilson has still managed multiple touchdowns in a game only once this season, but he managed 8.4 yards per attempt -- his second-highest mark of the campaign.
Oct 30, 2022
Active for Sunday's game
Wilson (hamstring) is officially listed as active for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
The QB approached the contest minus an injury designation after practicing fully Friday and is in uniform Sunday. Wilson is thus on track to draw the start the start versus Jacksonville in London after sitting out Denver's 16-9 loss to the Jets in Week 7.
Oct 28, 2022
To start Sunday
Coach Nathaniel Hackett said Friday that Wilson (hamstring) will start Sunday versus the Jaguars barring any setbacks, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson didn't have any limitations at Friday's practice, per Stevens, so it looks like he's even on track to avoid an injury designation heading into Sunday's contest in London. The veteran quarterback said Thursday that he feels felt "great" and "ready to roll" Week 8, Jeff Legwold of ESPN, and it looks like his mobility under center may be unaffected. It's still worth noting that Hackett qualified Wilson would start as long as he avoids any setbacks, so his status will still warrant monitoring as Sunday's 9:30 a.m. ET kickoff approaches. The Broncos are set for a bye week after taking on Jacksonville.
Oct 27, 2022
Logs another limited practice
Wilson (hamstring) remained listed as a limited practice participant Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Jeff Legwold of ESPN, Wilson indicated Wednesday that he felt "great" and "ready to roll" as Sunday's game against the Jaguars in London approaches. For his part, head coach Nathaniel Hackett noted Thursday that the quarterback "had a good day of practice" Thursday, while adding that Wilson "looks good" but is still being viewed as "day-to-day." Barring any setbacks, Wilson looks to be trending toward starting for the Broncos this weekend, though he'll presumably need to practice fully Friday in order to have a chance to avoid an injury designation.
Oct 26, 2022
Trending in right direction
Wilson (left hamstring) indicated Wednesday that he is "ready to roll" as Sunday's game against the Jaguars approaches, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Wilson was a limited participant at Wednesday's practice, but it sounds like the QB is trending toward returning to action this weekend, barring any setbacks. That's a notion echoed by coach Nathaniel Hackett, though Wilson will likely need to practice fully by the end of the week in order to avoid an injury designation ahead of Sunday's 9:30 AM ET kickoff in London.
Oct 26, 2022
Begins week with limited practice
Wilson (hamstring) will practice on a limited basis Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson also practiced on a limited basis leading up to Week 7, when he was ultimately inactive leading to a Brett Rypien start. Coach Nathaniel Hackett has said that Wilson is trending toward a Week 8 return, but the Broncos may still need to monitor the No. 1 quarterback in practice ahead of Sunday's contest against Jacksonville. Wilson will have two more opportunities to increase his practice reps before the team makes a decision about his game-time designation.
Oct 23, 2022
Trending towards Week 8 return
Coach Nathaniel Hackett revealed after Sunday's 16-9 loss to the Jets that Wilson (hamstring) is on track to play in Week 8 against the Jaguars, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson practiced on a limited basis throughout the week leading up to the Week 7 loss but was ultimately inactive. Brett Rypien threw for 225 yards and one interception in Wilson's absence. The Broncos will travel to London in Week 8 to face the Jaguars, and Wilson's trending towards a return after a one-week absence, but his practice participation, or lack thereof, should help determine whether he's indeed ready to return.
Oct 23, 2022
Could miss time beyond Week 7
Tests on Wilson's hamstring revealed a partial tear -- also referred to as a Grade 2 strain, which clouds the QB's status beyond Week 7, according to Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
The report suggests that such an issue can potentially be a multiple-week injury, given the risk of additional damage. That said, Jeff Legwold of ESPN relays that Wilson will be re-evaluated in the coming days to determine whether he has a chance to play on Oct. 30 versus the Jaguars. The Broncos then have a bye in Week 9. In his absence Sunday, Brett Rypien will draw the start against the Jets, backed up by Josh Johnson.
Oct 22, 2022
Out Sunday
Wilson (hamstring) will not play in the Broncos' Week 7 matchup with the Jets, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Denver will opt to err on the side of caution with Wilson and allow him time to heal and prevent a lingering injury. As a result, Brett Rypien will ge the start against the Jets. The veteran's next chance to suit up will come in Week 8 versus the Jaguars.
Oct 21, 2022
Game-time call Sunday
Wilson (hamstring) is officially listed as questionable Sunday, and coach Nathaniel Hackett said Friday that the quarterback's status could come down to a game-time decision, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
If Wilson's ultimately unable to play, Brett Rypien would step in under center against a Jets team that comes in riding a three-game winning streak. Wilson participated in some capacity in all three of Denver's practice during the week, so he has a chance to suit up despite injuring his hamstring Monday against the Chargers.
Oct 21, 2022
Spotted at practice Friday
Wilson (hamstring) is practicing Friday, Zac Stevens of DNVR Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Friday's injury report will detail the extent of Wilson's participation and his injury designation for Sunday's game against the Jets. He was limited both Wednesday and Thursday, but Wilson's ability to take the practice field all three days Sunday is an encouraging sign for his Week 7 availability.
Oct 20, 2022
Remains limited at practice
Wilson (hamstring) will remain limited at practice Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com, coach Nathaniel Hackett indicated that Wilson did "very good" in Wednesday's practice, but at this stage the Broncos' QB plans for Sunday's game against the Jets have yet to be solidified. With that in mind, Hackett relays that the team is preparing Wilson, Brett Rypien and practice squad member Josh Johnson to play this weekend, with Wilson's Week 7 status TBD at this stage.
Oct 19, 2022
Manages limited practice
Wilson (hamstring) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, saying beforehand that he's feeling better each day and hopes to be ready for Sunday against the Jets, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
He's considered day-to-day after an MRI on Tuesday revealed no structural issues with the hamstring he hurt during Monday's overtime loss to the Chargers. If Wilson can't play this week, Brett Rypien would be in line for his second NFL start, having previously faced the Jets in Week 2 of 2020.
Oct 18, 2022
Deemed day-to-day after MRI
Wilson (hamstring) is considered day-to-day after an MRI on Tuesday revealed no significant injury, but his availability for Sunday's game against the Jets remains in question, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Wilson's day-to-day diagnosis likely takes a long-term absence off the table, he sounds like he'll have to play through some pain if he's able to suit up Week 7. The veteran quarterback won't have the benefit of a normal full week of healing time, as he faces a quicker turnaround for the matchup with the Jets after playing hurt in Monday's 19-16 overtime loss to the Chargers. For the fifth week in a row, Wilson threw for less than 300 yards, and he's completed just 55.8 percent of his throws for 7.1 yards per attempt and 4:3 TD:INT over that span. Even if Wilson is ready to go Sunday, his mobility could be limited to some extent while he manages the hamstring injury.
Oct 18, 2022
Undergoes MRI on Tuesday
Wilson (hamstring) underwent an MRI on Tuesday for what could be a "fairly significant" injury, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson sustained the hamstring injury during the fourth quarter of Monday's loss to the Chargers but played through the issue during overtime. While the star quarterback didn't appear limited during the contest, he struggled to move the ball in the second half as the Broncos offense fell flat. Per Pelissero, there's concern pending the test results, but Wilson has played through numerous injuries in his career. The MRI results and Wednesday's injury report should provide further clarity on the situation.
Oct 18, 2022
Picks up hamstring injury
Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said that Wilson sustained a hamstring injury during Monday's 19-16 loss to the Chargers, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson said postgame that he hurt his hamstring in the fourth quarter, but he was able to play through the issue in overtime, according to Myles Simmons of ProFootballTalk.com. The 33-year-old previously received a PRP injection in his right throwing shoulder to address a partially torn lat, which impacted him in Denver's previous two games. Wilson also was limited in practice Thursday before logging full sessions Friday and Saturday. However, Wilson added that the shoulder concern didn't affect him during Monday's game, per Simmons. The veteran quarterback completed all 10 of his passes for 116 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter before going 5-for-18 passing over the remainder of the contest. It will be worth monitoring Wilson's status heading into the Broncos' next game against the Jets on Sunday.
Oct 18, 2022
Another uninspiring performance
Wilson completed 15 of his 28 pass attempts for 188 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Monday's 19-16 loss to the Broncos. He added four rushes for 23 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson seemed to have turned a corner early in the game, as he led the Broncos to points in each of their first two offensive possessions -- highlighted by a 39-yard touchdown throw to rookie Greg Dulcich. However, things took a drastic turn for the worst in the second half when Wilson completed only three of his nine pass attempts for 15 yards. After Monday's performance, Wilson has failed to throw for multiple touchdowns in all but one of his six games and has failed to surpass 200 passing yards on two occasions. In addition to his own struggles, Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy have struggled to produce consistently with Wilson delivering passes.
Oct 14, 2022
Set for full practice Friday
Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett said that Wilson (shoulder) will be a full practice participant Friday, confirming the quarterback is on track to start Monday's game in Los Angeles against the Chargers, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was limited in both of the Broncos' first two workouts of the week, one of which was unofficial since Denver didn't need to submit its first Week 6 practice report until Thursday due to the Monday night game. According to Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com, Wilson's reps were capped to begin the week to afford him more recovery time from an injury to his latisssimus dorsi near his right shoulder, which he initially sustained Week 4 in the Broncos' Oct. 1 loss to the Raiders. Wilson received a platelet-rich plasma injection in the shoulder last Friday, one day after the Broncos' 12-9 overtime loss to the Colts in a Thursday night game. The procedure and the extra recovery time ahead of the Week 6 matchup with the Chargers has Wilson feeling "better every day," though that doesn't necessarily guarantee that he'll immediately show improvement after a slow start to his tenure with the Broncos. Through five games, Wilson has completed a career-low 59.4 percent of his passes for 7.4 yards per attempt and a 4:3 TD:INT.
Oct 13, 2022
Limited in first Week 6 practice
Denver head coach Nathaniel Hackett said Wilson (shoulder) will be a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was limited in each of the Broncos' practices during Week 5, but he ultimately suited up in Denver's 12-9 overtime loss to Indianapolis on Thursday, completing just 21 of 39 attempts for two interceptions while carrying four times for 22 yards. Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported over the weekend that Wilson flew to Los Angeles last Friday to receive a platelet-rich plasma injection to address a right shoulder injury, which Adam Schefter of ESPN more specifically labeled as a partially torn lat. The injury has apparently hampered Wilson in both of the past two contests, but the 33-year-old isn't expected to miss the Broncos' upcoming game Monday in Los Angeles versus the Chargers. Wilson reiterated as much Thursday, telling George Stoia III of The Denver Gazette that his shoulder is getting "better and better" every day since he had the PRP injection.
Oct 11, 2022
Should be OK for Week 6
Coach Nathaniel Hackett said Tuesday that Wilson (shoulder) "should be ready to play" Monday at the Chargers, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of the Broncos' Week 5 loss to the Colts, Wilson received a PRP injection in his right throwing shoulder to relieve what has been termed a partially torn lat, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Wilson initially suffered the injury Week 4 against the Raiders, but he's yet to take off an offensive play through five games this season. With a Monday night AFC West matchup on tap, Denver isn't required to post a practice report until Thursday, at which point his activity level on the field will be one to watch as the weekend approaches.
Oct 8, 2022
Dealing with tear in shoulder
Wilson has played the last two games with a partially torn lat near his right shoulder, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Wilson received a PRP injection in his shoulder to relieve discomfort, but the quarterback isn't expected to need surgery. Per Schefter, Wilson picked up the issue during the team's Week 4 loss to the Raiders, played through the discomfort in Thursday's matchup against the Colts, and plans to do so again against the Chargers in Week 6. While the veteran signal caller was solid in Week 4, he completed just 54 percent of his passes and threw two interceptions during the Broncos' Week 5 overtime loss to Indianapolis.
Oct 8, 2022
Managing shoulder discomfort
Wilson underwent a procedure Friday to relieve discomfort in his throwing shoulder, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson received a PRP injection in his shoulder to help relieve the discomfort, an injury that Pelissero suggests is more common among MLB players. The veteran is expected to play through the issue at least ahead of Week 6's matchup against the Chargers, but it's possible the injury could force Wilson to miss time down the road if it persists. The 33-year-old is coming off a mistake-plagued primetime matchup against the Colts, in which he completed just 21 of his 39 passes and threw two interceptions.
Oct 7, 2022
Comes up short in Week 5 loss
Wilson completed 21 of 39 passes for 274 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions while adding four rushes for 22 yards in the Broncos' 12-9 overtime loss to the Colts on Thursday night. He also fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's final line will show he compiled his second-highest passing yardage total of the season, but the Broncos' inability to score a single touchdown more accurately encapsulates the quality of his performance. After leading Denver to two field goals in the first four possessions, Wilson could only helm one other scoring drive. Additionally, both his interceptions came at particularly costly moments, the first at the Colts' four-yard line early in the fourth quarter and the second coming in the end zone with 2:13 remaining and the Broncos clinging to a 9-6 lead. Wilson's forgettable night would then conclude with an incomplete pass on fourth down at the 2:38 mark of overtime at the end of a six-play, 70-yard march. Wilson doubled his season interception total with the pair of picks, and he and his offensive teammates will now have some extra time to figure out how to snap their season-long funk ahead of a Week 6 Monday night road showdown versus the Chargers on Oct. 17.
Oct 5, 2022
Cleared to play Thursday
Wilson (right shoulder) does not carry an injury designation for Thursday night's game against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
The Broncos listed the QB as a limited participant this week, but Wilson's shoulder issue won't prevent him from starting Thursday's contest against the Colts. While Denver's offense took a hit in Week 4 when RB Javonte Williams suffered a season-ending knee injury, Melvin Gordon provides the team with an experienced lead back to handle rushing duties in the weeks ahead, with Mike Boone and Latavius Murray also on hand. Meanwhile, none of Wilson's top wideout options (Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler) are listed on the Broncos' Week 5 injury report.
Oct 4, 2022
Remains limited Tuesday
Wilson (shoulder) was listed as a limited participant at Tuesday's practice, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
For the second day in a row, "Mr. Unlimited" found himself on the Week 5 injury report as a limited participant, though this time the Broncos actually got on the field for a walk-through session after Monday's practice was merely an estimated one. Wilson is tending to some soreness in his throwing shoulder in the aftermath of Sunday's loss to the Raiders, but head coach Nathaniel Hackett said he doesn't believe the quarterback is in danger of missing Thursday's game against the Colts, per Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site. Whether Wilson approaches the Week 5 contest with an injury designation will likely be determined by what he's able to do at Wednesday's practice.
Oct 3, 2022
Limited on practice estimate
Coach Nathaniel Hackett relayed that Wilson (right shoulder) would have been limited Monday, if the Broncos had practiced, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Hackett, Wilson "got dinged up a little bit" during Sunday's loss to the Raiders, with Tom Pelissero of NFL Network indicating that the QB is dealing with some shoulder soreness. Either way, Hackett told DiLalla that he expects Wilson to play Thursday night against the Colts.
Oct 2, 2022
Creates three TDs in Sunday's loss
Wilson completed 17 of 25 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 32-23 loss to the Raiders. He added 29 rushing yards and a TD on four carries.
ANALYSIS
He was pretty much the whole show for the Broncos, as Wilson led the club in rushing yards and none of his receivers managed more than 55. The performance was still a step forward for the quarterback, who tossed multiple TDs for the first time with Denver as he hit Courtland Sutton for a five-yard score in the first quarter and Jerry Jeudy for a 20-yard strike just before halftime. Wilson will look to build on this effort in Week 5 against the Colts.
Sep 26, 2022
Clutch finish to ugly game
Wilson completed 20 of 33 pass attempts for 184 yards and no touchdowns while adding 17 yards on six carries in Sunday's 11-10 win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Wilson struggled against San Francisco's fierce pass rush all night, even hearing a chorus of boos from the home crowd following multiple consecutive three-and-out drives. The veteran QB seems to be trying a game-manager role with his new club, and the results have not been pretty through three games. It wasn't until Denver's final drive of the game that Wilson took it upon himself to use his legs to escape pressure like he did in his prime in Seattle and will his team to victory. Perhaps the heroic effort will spur Wilson to get back to his old ways of extending plays with his legs and taking deeper shots downfield, because the former fantasy star is posting stat lines best fit for the waiver wire since joining the Broncos. The Raiders' porous defense, which Wilson and Denver will see next week, presents a prime opportunity to finally deliver on the preseason hype.

Underwhelming performance in win
Wilson completed 14 of 31 passes for 219 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding two rushes for three yards in Sunday's 16-9 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Coming off a loss to his former team in Week 1, many expected Wilson and the Broncos to have a huge bounce back week against the Texans on Sunday. Unfortunately, that wasn't in the cards, as the offense is still trying to find its footing under the tutelage of head coach Nathaniel Hackett. Wilson focused on Courtland Sutton throughout the contest, targeting the wideout a team-high 11 times. Jerry Jeudy exited the game with a rib injury, complicating matters for the veteran signal caller with KJ Hamler (knee/hip) already sidelined. Wilson's lone touchdown came early in the fourth quarter to give Denver the lead. The 33-year-old's struggles through the first two weeks are certainly concerning for fantasy purposes, but the Denver offense is too talented to think that things won't improve substantially moving forward. Wilson will have the chance to get cooking against a familiar foe when the Broncos host the 49ers in Week 3.

Takes loss in Denver debut
Wilson completed 29 of 42 passes for 340 yards and a touchdown while rushing once for two yards in Monday's 17-16 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's first three passes of the game all went to fullback/tight end Andrew Beck, and he completed two of them for 52 yards to set up a field goal on Seattle's first drive. His first throw to a wide receiver didn't come until there were less than six minutes left in the second quarter, but he made up for a lack of quantity with quality, as that pass was a 67-yard touchdown to Jerry Jeudy. Denver had no trouble moving the ball but two fumbles by running backs inside the five-yard line and poor clock management down the stretch culminated in the game coming down to a 64-yard Brandon McManus field goal, which narrowly missed. Wilson will have a nice opportunity to bounce back from this loss to his former team when the Texans come to town for his Denver home debut in Week 2.

Agrees to five-year extension
Wilson and the Broncos agreed to terms Thursday on a five-year, $245 million contract extension, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson's extension includes $165 million in guarantees and makes him the highest-played player in Denver's franchise history before taking a snap with the team. As noted by Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com, Wilson's $42.9 million per season salary links him to the Broncos for the next seven years and makes him the seventh highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. The timing of the deal provides both sides with the stability of a long-term commitment leading up to Week 1 of the 2022 campaign, a season-opener which will see the 33-year-old Wilson look to take advantage of a strong roster that includes top wideouts Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy against his former team in Seattle.

Won't play in preseason games
Broncos offensive coordinator Justin Outten said Wilson won't play in any preseason games ahead of his Week 1 matchup with the Seahawks, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson starts his tenure in Denver with a visit to his old home, facing the Seahawks on Monday Night Football. It remains to be seen if Courtland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy can approximate what Wilson had in Seattle with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, but the Broncos are stronger than the Seahawks at most positions, with no gap wider than the one at quarterback. The 33-year-old Wilson competed at least 64.8 percent of his passes for 7.5 YPA or better in each of his final four seasons with Seattle, averaging 32.8 TD passes, 7.8 interceptions, 353.5 rushing yards and 1.8 rushing TDs per season in that stretch.

Not suiting up Saturday
Wilson isn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Cowboys, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports
ANALYSIS
Wilson's first game action as a Bronco will have to wait until Saturday, Aug. 20 in Buffalo, at the earliest. In Wilson's stead, Josh Johnson will direct Denver's offense first, with Brett Rypien taking the field at some point after him.
Aug 11, 2022
May not play Saturday
Wilson won't play much, if at all, in Saturday's preseason game against Dallas, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson might get a few more snaps than other top QBs this preseason, considering he and coach Nathaniel Hackett both are new to Denver. Still, it probably won't amount to much more than a few series, and perhaps in the second/third week of the preseason rather than Saturday.

Continues to impress
Wilson continues to prove himself as a leader and a clear upgrade at the quarterback position, having his best practice of training camp Thursday, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In an end-of-game scenario in practice Thursday, Wilson reminded the Broncos why they made the blockbuster move to acquire the veteran quarterback this offseason. After multiple touchdown drives throughout the practice, Wilson was the one who decided the final plays in crunch time to lead the offense to a win. When discussing play calling in those types of situations, coach Nathaniel Hackett said, "I'm always kind of in his ear, but it's his choice, whatever he's feeling." It's not surprising that the team has placed their trust in the veteran signal caller, and he will certainly provide a much needed boost to Denver's aerial attack. Despite losing Tim Patrick (knee) to a season-ending torn ACL, the Broncos still have an abundance of talented wide receivers, including Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and KJ Hamler. Additionally, tight ends Albert Okwuegbunam and Greg Dulcich are impressing in camp, providing Wilson with dynamic pass catching options. The 33-year-old signal caller also has an effective run game t

Trade to Denver official
The Broncos' trade for Russell Wilson from the Seahawks became official Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
In one of the landmark transactions of the offseason, Denver finally landed its first big-name quarterback since Peyton Manning retired after winning Super Bowl 50. Wilson will have a bevy of pass catchers at his disposal, moat notably wide receivers Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick, tight end Albert Okwuegbunam and running back Javonte Williams. Wilson is coming off a subpar season by his standards, as he missed the first games (three) of his career due to injury and the playoffs for just the second time in 10 pro campaigns. Still, he completed 65 percent of his passes, averaged 7.8 yards per attempt and had 25 touchdowns versus six interceptions in 14 appearances.

Trade moves toward completion
In the wake of the agreed upon deal that is slated to send Wilson from Seattle to Denver, the quarterback waived his no-trade clause and passed his physical with the Broncos on Tuesday night, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
As a result, Tuesday's blockbuster trade in which the Broncos are in line to send QB Drew Lock, TE Noah Fant, DL Shelby Harris, two first-round draft picks, two second-round picks and a 2022 fifth-round selection to the Seahawks in exchange for Wilson and a 2022 fourth-rounder, continues to move toward becoming official once the league's new league year begins March 16. The looming arrival of Wilson, who turns 34 in November, provides his new franchise with the signal-caller stability it has been seeking and in the process figures to boost the fantasy prospects of the team's core skill players, a unit that includes WRs Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and KJ Hamler, TE Albert Okwuegbunam and RB Javonte Williams.

Trade to Denver in place
A deal is in place to send Wilson and a fourth-round draft pick from the Seahawks to the Broncos in exchange for quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a fifth-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Schefter, the blockbuster hinges on Wilson waiving his no-trade clause, an expected outcome. Additionally, the looming transaction can't be finalized until the new league year begins March 16. Adding Wilson to the mix will provide the Broncos offense with a huge lift and significantly bolsters the nucleus of an attack that also includes running back Javonte Williams as well as wideouts Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and K.J. Hamler.

Reportedly on the move
The Seahawks have reportedly agreed to terms on a deal to send Wilson to the Broncos, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
The report notes that such an outcome is pending a physical and Wilson's approval. Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the looming blockbuster transaction is expected to include multiple first-round draft picks as well as additional draft choices and players.

Wants to explore options
Wilson hasn't demanded a trade from the Seahawks, but sources close to the quarterback indicate that he wants to explore other possible options to see if another team can put him in a better position to win another championship, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Wilson said in one of his final press conferences of the season that he hopes to remain with Seattle in 2022, the quarterback sounds as though he's open to the possibility of being dealt if he can go to a team that has a more promising outlook than the Seahawks, who are coming off a 7-10 season. With that in mind, Wilson looks like he'll be following a script similar to last offseason, when he never formally requested a trade yet still had his agent provide the Seahawks' front office with a list of four teams he would be willing to wive his no-trade clause for. Mike Garofolo of NFL Network reported last weekend that at this stage, the Seahawks have no plans to trade Wilson, who has two years remaining on his contract.

Still wanted by Seattle
Coach Pete Carroll said Monday he expects Wilson to remain the Seahawks' starting quarterback in the 2022 campaign, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Carroll responded "[Wilson's] our quarterback" when asked about the standout veteran's future in Seattle. Of course, the Seahawks will have ample time to mull over any personnel decisions during the upcoming offseason, and there's plenty of precedence that says coach's comments in early January shouldn't exactly be considered a guarantee. A serious finger injury caused Wilson to miss three contests during the 2021 campaign, and upon returning he logged a seven-game slump with only a 8:4 TD:INT ratio. However, Wilson looked more like himself during the final two games of the season, when he posted eight total touchdowns and just one interception.
Jan 9, 2022
Scores four touchdowns
Wilson completed 15 of 26 pass attempts for 238 yards, three touchdowns and one interception while running for five yards and one touchdown against Arizona on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
It was a classic Russell Wilson box score: scoring often, including as a dual threat, all while dealing with low usage volume. To produce four touchdowns on 30 snaps isn't a common feat for most players, but with Wilson it's an old story by now. It's not clear whether that story will continue in Seattle, nor whether Seattle will keep the same coaching either way. Wilson's situation is one to monitor in the offseason.
Jan 2, 2022
Throws four touchdowns
Wilson completed 20 of 29 pass attempts for 236 yards and four touchdowns while running for 24 yards on six carries against Detroit on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The Detroit defense has some of the weakest personnel in the league, and this game proved to be a good setting for Wilson to (hopefully) reestablish some rapport with DK Metcalf (six catches for 63 yards and three touchdowns on nine targets). Wilson will need Metcalf to keep producing alongside Tyler Lockett (three catches for 24 yards and one touchdown on three targets Sunday) if the Seahawks offense is to maintain its momentum against a tough Arizona defense in Week 18.
Dec 26, 2021
Tosses two TDs in loss
Wilson completed 16 of 27 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 25-24 loss to the Bears. He added 13 yards on two carries.
ANALYSIS
On a snowy day in Seattle, Wilson mostly took a back seat to Rashaad Penny, but he was able to cap a couple drives with TD passes to DK Metcalf and Gerald Everett, the latter of which gave the Seahawks a 24-14 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the defense couldn't make it hold up. Wilson has thrown multiple touchdowns in four of the last five games, but with Seattle now officially eliminated from postseason contention, he has little to play for but personal milestones heading into a Week 17 clash with the Lions.
Dec 21, 2021
Poor showing in defeat
Wilson completed 17 of 31 pass attempts for 156 yards, no touchdowns and one interception while failing to record a rushing attempt in Tuesday's 20-10 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Wilson had been looking like his pre-injury self over the last few weeks -- averages of 246 passing yards and two touchdowns over his last three games -- after rushing back too quickly from a broken finger in Week 10. The 32-year-old reverted to his poor passing form against a tough Rams defense, as evidenced by his third sub-60 percent completion rate game this season (zero total touchdowns in those contests). Fantasy managers should probably throw this performance out the window when evaluating Wilson for Week 16, as the tough matchup and lack of playmaker Tyler Lockett (illness) were factors in this dud. A bounce-back showing against the Bears on Sunday would not be surprising.
Dec 17, 2021
Seahawks-Rams moved to Tuesday
Wilson and the Seahawks will no longer play the Rams on Sunday, after the NFL officially rescheduled the matchup between the two teams for Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
ANALYSIS
Due to ongoing COVID-19-related concerns within the Rams organization, the NFL is hopeful that by delaying the game two days, Los Angeles will be able to restore enough players from the reserve/COVID-19 list to alleviate depth concerns on the roster. After Tuesday's game, the Seahawks will face a quick turnaround for Week 16 with a Sunday matchup versus the Bears on Dec. 26.

Seahawks-Rams moved to Tuesday
Wilson and the Seahawks aren't in line to play the Rams on Sunday, with the NFL expected to reschedule the game for Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET, pending official confirmation, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Dec 12, 2021
Tosses two scores in win
Wilson completed 17 of 28 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 33-13 win over the Texans. He also ran twice for eight yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson put together his best game since returning from finger surgery in Week 10, tossing a 55-yard touchdown to Tyler Lockett and a one-yard score to Gerald Everett. We haven't seen many deep shots from Wilson since his injury, so his connection with Lockett demonstrated that the 33-year-old quarterback is as close to 100 percent as he can get. Nevertheless, he'll have a tough matchup against the Rams -- who are fourth in the league with 32 sacks -- in Week 15.
Dec 5, 2021
Sharp in Sunday's win
Wilson completed 30 of 37 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 30-23 win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
For the first time in four games since returning from finger surgery, Wilson looked more like himself, and his line would have been even better had Gerald Everett not bobbled a pass at the goal line, turning a sure TD into an INT on Seattle's first drive of the second half. The Seahawks are all but out of the NFC playoff picture at 4-8, but Wilson will likely go down slinging, beginning with a Week 14 tilt against the Texans.
Nov 30, 2021
Comeback falls short
Wilson completed 20 of 31 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns in Monday night's 17-15 loss to Washington. He also rushed twice for 16 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson and Seattle's offense once again struggled to move the ball and produce points. In fact, he led the team in rushing and 94 of his passing yards came on two plays to Tyler Lockett. Besides that, his two leaders in receptions, Gerald Everett and DeeJay Dallas, totaled 64 yards on their 10 combined grabs. Meanwhile, star wideout DK Metcalf's lone, 13-yard catch didn't come until there was just over a minute left. Although Wilson salvaged some value with a touchdown to Everett early and Freddie Swain late, his two-point conversion attempt with 15 seconds remaining was intercepted, capping a frustrating showing from the signal-caller.
Nov 21, 2021
Struggles continue
Wilson completed 14 of 26 pass attempts for 207 yards against Arizona on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was arguably better than he was against Green Bay in Week 10, but other than a few big throws to Tyler Lockett there just wasn't anything good going on for the Seattle passing game Sunday. The Arizona defense may well go down as one of the best in the NFL this year, so Wilson has that excuse at least, but it still seems like he's not fully himself as he works his way back from his finger injury, which he first returned from last week. His Week 12 matchup at Washington is a favorable one, so hopefully the finger cooperates and allows Wilson to really get back on track.
Nov 14, 2021
Major struggles
Wilson completed 20 of 40 pass attempts for 161 yards and two interceptions against Green Bay on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was almost certainly limited by the finger injury he returned from -- a return that occurred quicker than the initial injury prognosis considered possible. When healthy it would be almost inconceivable for Wilson to play like this, especially against a Green Bay secondary without its best corner (Jaire Alexander). Wilson missed throws he usually doesn't, and almost every rep was ugly in some way or another. The Arizona defense is more dangerous than Green Bay's, so hopefully Wilson can get back into game shape before Week 11.
Nov 12, 2021
Activated from IR
Wilson (finger) was activated from injured reserve Friday evening, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
The team didn't bother waiting until Saturday, with coach Pete Carroll having already named Wilson as the starter for Sunday's game in Green Bay. Rookie WR Dee Eskridge (concussion) is also coming off IR for the Week 10 game, while RB Chris Carson (IR/neck) has been ruled out again.
Nov 12, 2021
Confirmed as Sunday's starter
Coach Pete Carroll confirmed Wilson (finger) will start Sunday's game against the Packers,Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
It's not a surprise given Wilson was labeled a full practice participant earlier this week, but it's a good sign to hear confirmation from Carroll regardless. The veteran signal-caller still needs to be officially reinstated from the injured list, but the team can make that roster move at any point ahead of the roster deadline Saturday afternoon.
Nov 10, 2021
Practices without limitations
Coach Pete Carroll said Wilson (finger) would be considered a full practice participant Wednesday if the Seahawks had to list him on their injury report, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The team doesn't have to list him on the injury report this week because Wilson technically is still on injured reserve, with his 21-day window to return opened Monday. It sounds like he's gearing up for Sunday's game in Green Bay, after Carroll said earlier this week that Wilson will get the start if he's medically cleared. His activity level Wednesday suggests the quarterback has made good progress with his surgically repaired finger.
Nov 8, 2021
Gets on practice field Monday
Wilson (finger) participated in Monday's practice, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. "He threw the ball all over the place, so he did really well for the first time out in a limited amount of plays," coach Pete Carroll said.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks designated Wilson for return from injured reserve Monday, and because they're coming off a Week 9 bye, he and his teammates are allowed to hold practice. He's attempting to make a recovery from Oct. 7 surgery to repair a fracture-dislocation and extensor tendon rupture on the front end of his 4-to-8-week timeline, and one week removed from having the pin removed from his right middle finger he was back out there, albeit in a "limited" capacity. Carroll also noted the team intends to clear him to start Sunday in Green Bay if he meets the requirements to play. The Seahawks will have until 4:00 p.m. ET on Saturday to make such a decision, but if Wilson is unable to suit up, Geno Smith will continue to operate as the starting quarterback.
Nov 8, 2021
Officially cleared to practice
Seattle designated Wilson (finger) for a return from injured reserve Monday, John Boyle of the Seahawks' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The team released a statement earlier Monday from Wilson's surgeon, Dr. Steven Shin, who wrote that he has cleared the quarterback for a "full return to play without reservation," given the tremendous progress he's made since undergoing surgery Oct. 7 to repair a fracture-dislocation and extensor tendon rupture of his right middle finger. The Seahawks will likely wait until later in the week to officially reinstate Wilson after getting a chance to observe him in practice, but the 32-year-old signal-caller is on track to make his return to the starting lineup Sunday in Green Bay. Geno Smith presided over the Seattle offense while Wilson was recovering from surgery over the past four weeks, guiding the Seahawks to a 1-2 record while completing 70.5 percent of his passes for 7.3 yards per attempt and a 4:0 TD:INT.
Nov 8, 2021
Cleared to return vs. Packers
Wilson (finger) has received medical clearance to return to action Week 10 versus the Packers, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson hasn't played since Week 5 due to a ruptured tendon in his right finger, for which he was forced to undergo surgery, but the stage appears set for him to retake the field for Sunday's road matchup in Green Bay. However, the Seahawks haven't yet officially activated the star quarterback from IR. During Seattle's bye, Wilson had the pin in his finger removed and resumed handling throwing reps. Meanwhile, the Packers could also have Aaron Rodgers (illness) back from the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Nov 3, 2021
Throwing again after pin removal
Wilson was spotted throwing a football Tuesday, one day after having the pin removed from his injured right middle finger, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson likely isn't yet throwing at full velocity, but his ability to toss the pigskin at all a day following the pin removal suggests he's progressing faster than expected after initially undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in the finger Oct. 8. The Seahawks are on bye this week, but assuming Wilson gradually increases the intensity of his workouts while experiencing no renewed discomfort while throwing, he should be on track to put an end to his three-game absence Nov. 14 at Green Bay in Week 10. While Wilson has been sidelined, Geno Smith has led the Seahawks to a 1-2 record as a replacement starter while completing 70.5 percent of his passes for 7.3 yards per attempt and a 4:0 TD:INT.
Oct 31, 2021
Getting pins removed soon
Wilson is expected to have the pins removed from his surgically repaired right middle finger early this week, and the signal-caller continues to target the Seahawks' Week 10 game in Green Bay on Nov. 14 for a return to action, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
When he initially underwent the procedure Oct. 8, Wilson was projected to miss anywhere from 4-to-8 weeks, but the quarterback looks to be honing in on a return at the short end of that timeline. Wilson is said to be progressing well after having the stitches removed from his finger this past week, and he'll take another step forward in the recovery process if the pins are in fact removed in the coming days. Geno Smith will draw a third straight start in Wilson's stead Sunday against the Jaguars, but the latter looks on pace to be ready to go following the Seahawks' Week 9 bye. The Seahawks likely won't confirm whether Wilson is trending toward a Week 10 return until the coaching and training staffs have a chance to evaluate him in practice.
Oct 23, 2021
Nearing pin removal
Wilson (finger) is expected to have the pin removed from his middle finger within the next week, NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson initially carried a recovery timetable of 4-to-8 weeks after he underwent surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his middle finger. However, the 32-year-old has a chance to return from injured reserve as early as Week 10, when Seattle plays the Packers on Nov. 14. Geno Smith should continue to serve as the Seahawks' starting quarterback while Wilson is sidelined.
Oct 21, 2021
Progressing, but timeline unclear
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Wilson (finger) is "definitely making progress" since undergoing surgery Oct. 8, but Carroll declined to offer up a timeline for the quarterback's return from injured reserve, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Seattle is unlikely to provide any clear updates on when Wilson might be ready to play until the team is on bye Week 9. The quarterback won't be eligible to practice until after he sits out a third consecutive game Oct. 31 against the Jaguars. If Wilson is able to practice during the bye week or during Week 10 prep, he could get the green light to play as soon as Nov. 14 in Green Bay. Initial estimates on Wilson's recovery timeline when he underwent the surgery ranged from 4-to-8 weeks, so fantasy managers planning on stashing him should be prepared for the possibility that he's out until early December at the latest.
Oct 15, 2021
Officially on IR
Wilson (finger) was placed on injured reserve Friday, ruling him out through Week 9, Brady Henderson of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson will first be eligible to return Nov. 14 against the Packers, at which point he'll be a little more than five weeks removed from surgery. Some reports suggested he could be out for as little as four weeks, while other put the timeline around six-to-eight weeks. Either way, the Seahawks plan to start Geno Smith at quarterback for at least three games. Jake Luton, the team's No. 3 QB, presumably will be called up from the practice squad before Sunday.
Oct 15, 2021
Headed for IR soon
Coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Wilson (finger) will be placed on injured reserve soon, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Once it becomes official, Wilson won't be eligible to play again until Nov. 14 against the Packers (Week 10). Even that appears optimistic, with most reports suggests he'll miss at least four weeks and possibly up to eight. While Wilson recovers from Oct. 8 surgery, Geno Smith will serve as Seattle's starting quarterback.

Could be back in four weeks
The Seahawks and Wilson's doctors have optimism that the quarterback could be ready to play in four weeks in a best-case scenario after he underwent surgery Friday to repair a fractured right middle finger, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Before Wilson checked in for surgery Friday, multiple doctors familiar with his injury believed that the signal-caller could be headed for a 6-to-8-week absence. After the surgery was completed, however, Wilson's outlook appears to have brightened a bit, with a four-week absence now seen as realistic. If that's the case, Wilson could be ready to play as soon as the Seahawks' Week 10 game at Green Bay, but his absence for at least the next three contests will snap his streak of 149 consecutive starts. Geno Smith is in line to direct the Seattle offense while Wilson is out, a context that likely amounts to a downgrade to the fantasy values of all of the Seahawks' skill-position players.
Oct 8, 2021
Gets surgery, out several weeks
Wilson (finger) had surgery Friday and is expected to require about six weeks for recovery, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
The timeline could change as more information becomes available, but there does seem to be a general consensus that Wilson will miss multiple games now that he's had surgery. Jordan Schultz of ESPN provides a vaguer timeline than Rapoport, suggesting the QB will miss "a minimum of four games, but in all likelihood...most of the regular season." Wilson suffered tendon damage to his middle finger during Thursday's loss to the Rams, with Geno Smith then taking over at QB for Seattle. Smith now figures to start for at least the next few games, beginning with Week 6 at Pittsburgh. The Seahawks then face New Orleans in Week 7 and Jacksonville in Week 8, followed by a bye in Week 9.
Oct 8, 2021
Likely out at least a month
The Seahawks are preparing for Wilson (finger) to miss at least one month and possibly 6-to-8 weeks, as the ruptured tendon in his middle finger likely will require surgery, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While X-rays came back negative after his exit from Thursday's loss to Los Angeles, the 32-year-old QB was quickly diagnosed with tendon damage, creating concern that he'd need surgery and a long-term absence. That hasn't been confirmed, but it sounds like Wilson and the Seahawks already are leaning in that direction less than 24 hours after the initial injury. Geno Smith is expected to take over as Seattle's starting quarterback.
Oct 8, 2021
X-rays negative, heading for MRI
Wilson had X-rays on his finger come back negative and will undergo an MRI on Friday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
There's concern Wilson is dealing with tendon damage also known as mallet finger, which according to Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune, would typically require a splint that "must be worn day and night for 6-to-8 weeks" and could also require surgery. Wilson is set to visit a hand specialist following the MRI, at which point there should be a better idea of his outlook moving forward. For now, the 32-year-old's status for Week 6 and beyond remains questionable at best. Geno Smith is poised to take over at quarterback for Seattle should Wilson be forced to miss any time.
Oct 7, 2021
Dealing with finger sprain
Wilson is dealing with a "badly sprained finger," Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson left the team's game Thursday against the Rams early in the fourth quarter after hitting his finger on a defensive player's helmet following through on a throw. He briefly played through the injury but ultimately had to be replaced by Geno Smith after being unable to grip the ball properly. Head coach Pete Carroll declined to give a timeline on Wilson's potential return, though some positive news is that the Seahawks will have a long week until they take on the Steelers in Week 6.
Oct 7, 2021
Solid numbers before injury exit
Wilson (finger) completed 11 of 16 passes for 152 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Seahawks' 26-17 loss to the Rams on Thursday night. He also rushed twice for 10 yards before exiting the game for good with 3:36 remaining in the third quarter due to what Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reports is being labeled as a "badly sprained finger."
ANALYSIS
Wilson was actually in the midst of a reasonably efficient performance against a defense that has bedeviled him in recent encounters before suffering the gruesome-looking injury on the helmet of a pass rusher. The multi-time Pro Bowler spent the fourth quarter on the sidelines trying to grip a football and watching backup Geno Smith put together a couple of productive drives before a late game-sealing interception. Bell relays that head coach Pete Carroll called Wilson "an all-time healer" in his postgame press conference, but the star quarterback may still be challenged to be back to full health in time for the Week 6 road matchup against the Steelers a week from Sunday.

Questionable to return
Wilson is questionable to return to Thursday's game against the Rams with a finger injury, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson injured his hand after hitting the helmet of a defensive player following through on a throw in the third quarter. He attempted to play through the issue with his finger wrapped, but he was not able to effectively lead the offense doing so. Geno Smith has taken over as the Seahawks' quarterback.

Three scores but meager yardage
Wilson completed 16-of-23 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns against San Francisco on Sunday, adding four carries for 26 yards and one touchdown.
ANALYSIS
The three touchdowns were a useful reminder how Wilson doesn't need much usage volume to find the end zone regularly, but the Seattle offense sputtered at times Sunday and Wilson's usage remained low for the fourth game in a row. Wilson's efficiency and explosiveness are as high as ever through one month, but the Seahawks are not running many plays and as a result Wilson's usage is rather low, averaging just 27.25 pass attempts and 3.75 carries per game through four weeks. Hopefully the Seahawks offense picks up its pace in Thursday's Week 5 matchup with the Rams.

Comes up short in Sunday's loss
Wilson completed 23 of 32 passes for 298 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's 30-17 loss to the Vikings. He also carried the ball three times for seven yards.
ANALYSIS
While Wilson once again was efficient and nearly posted his second 300-yard performance in a row, he only got the ball into the end zone once and didn't get enough support from the rest of the Seattle roster. He still has yet to throw an INT this year with a dazzling 73.3 percent completion rate and seven TDs through three games, but the Seahawks have only a 1-2 record to show for it. Wilson faces another tough test Week 4 on the road against the 49ers.
Sep 19, 2021
Goes for 343 yards, two TDs
Wilson racked up 343 yards and two touchdowns on 22-for-31 passing and recorded 16 more yards on three carries during Sunday's 33-30 overtime loss to the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Wilson backed up his 254-yard, four-touchdown performance from the season opener by stuffing the stat sheet Week 2. However, more than half of his yardage through the air came on three plays -- he had two TDs of 60-plus yards and another 51-yard completion to Tyler Lockett -- and the Titans offense ground and pounded on the back of Derrick Henry in the second half, leading to just six points for the Seahawks between the third and fourth quarters. Wilson will aim to get back to winning ways next Sunday on the road against the 0-2 Vikings.
Sep 12, 2021
Four scores to kick things off
Wilson completed 18 of 23 pass attempts for 254 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's 28-10 win over the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Wilson didn't do much on the ground (five carries for nine yards), but he didn't need to after dissecting the Colts' secondary from the pocket. The 32-year-old replicated his four-score performance from Week 1 of the 2020 season, and his fantasy managers are hoping the superstar quarterback can also copy the 10 touchdowns he rattled off over the following two weeks as well. Indianapolis is no slouch on defense, so Wilson's matchup against a young, fast Tennessee Titans defense next Sunday shouldn't worry his managers.

Doesn't play Saturday
Wilson didn't play in the Seahawks' final preseason game Saturday against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was expected to play about a quarter, but head coach Pete Carroll opted to keep the team's most valuable player on the sidelines for the final exhibition matchup. Even without Wilson on the field, we saw a glimpse of new OC Shane Waldron's system, according to Gregg Bell of The News Tribune. Waldron frequently utilized two tight-end sets, and he even got fullback Nick Bellore involved. Of course, we shouldn't draw too many conclusions from a preseason game. After all, no scheme is going to leave DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett (groin) off the field for more than a couple of snaps per game. With the defense more likely to take a step back than improve, Wilson should end up throwing plenty this season regardless of the initial game plan.
Aug 28, 2021
Should play a little Saturday
Wilson could play about a quarter in Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers, Gregg Bell of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
RB Chris Carson and a few others likely will be held out, but Wilson is expected to get a little playing time to tune up for his Week 1 road matchup with the Colts. The Seahawks brought back the same nucleus of offensive players, albeit with a few tweaks, hoping new OC Shane Waldron can help Wilson bounce back from a disappointing second half of 2020.
Aug 21, 2021
Likely sitting against Broncos
Wilson is not likely to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
General manager John Schneider appeared on the pregame radio show and spoke of the great opportunity that backup quarterbacks Alex McGough and Sean Mannion would have in Saturday's contest. That presumably means Wilson will remain sidelined, as he also didn't appear in the team's first preseason contest against the Raiders.

Gets more pass catchers
The Seahawks added wide receiver D'Wayne Eskridge in the draft and tight end Gerald Everett via free agency to help bolster Wilson's pass-catching options, Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has passed the disgruntled quarterback baton to Aaron Rodgers, as coach Pete Carroll confirmed last week that the Seahawks are on good terms with Wilson and won't trade the quarterback. The Seahawks have made solid upgrades on offense this offseason all the same, as they traded for right guard Gabe Jackson to help bolster the offensive line, and they signed Everett to a one-year, $6 million deal before selecting Eskridge in the second round of the draft. Even with the plethora of weapons at Wilson's disposal, it remains to be seen how he works with his new offensive coordinator, Shane Waldron, who previously worked as the Rams' passing game coordinator.

Willing to waive no-trade clause
Wilson told the Seahawks he wants to stay in Seattle, but he also said he'd be willing to play for the Cowboys, Saints, Raiders or Bears if a trade were considered, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Wilson has surpassed Deshaun Watson and Carson Wentz as king of the February rumor mill, with multiple reports suggesting the 32-year-old QB is contemplating an NFL future after Seattle. According to The Athletic, Wilson is frustrated with coach Pete Carroll's emphasis on the running game and wishes the Seahawks had made their pass-blocking more of a priority. He may not be ready to request a trade, but there's no doubt he's making a statement in going public (albeit indirectly) with his willingness to waive his no-trade clause for specific teams. While the Seahawks presumably will try first and foremost to repair the relationship, it does seem the once-unthinkable -- a Russell Wilson trade -- is now on the table as an option. Granted, the rift could be forgotten in a matter of months if Wilson and Co. take flight under new OC Shane Waldron.

Struggles in loss to Rams
Wilson completed 11 of 27 passes for 174 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 30-20 wild-card loss to the Rams. He also ran four times for 50 yards.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks showed increased dysfunction toward the end of the season and specifically against the Rams. This was another prime example, and it was perhaps Wilson's worst game of the season. The 32-year-old quarterback threw a costly pick-six to Darious Williams in the second quarter, completed just 41 percent of his passes and was sacked five times. Garbage time provided a slight boost to an otherwise putrid stat line, as he added 49 passing yards and a score in addition to 28 rushing yards on the second to last drive. Wilson appeared to be an MVP front runner to start the season, but he started slipping in the second half of the year and ultimately fell out of the race. Nevertheless, Wilson set career highs in touchdowns (40) and completion percentage (68.8) during the regular season, and his 4,212 passing yards were just eight yards short of a personal best as well. Both DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett will be returning next year as well, so the Seahawks' passing game is equipped to return to the early seaso
Jan 3, 2021
Clutch in crunch time
Wilson completed 20 of 36 pass attempts for 181 yards and two touchdowns, adding 29 yards on five rushing attempts in Sunday's 26-23 win over the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was held in check for the first three quarters of action by a varied defense called by 49ers' defensive coordinator (and popular head coach candidate) Robert Saleh, but "Mr. Unlimited" was finally able to break through with 20 points in the fourth quarter to lead his team to victory. The 31-year-old fell seven yards shy of the career-high 4,219 passing yards he threw back in 2016. Unlike that season, Wilson put himself firmly in the MVP conversation with a new high water mark of 40 passing touchdowns (to 13 interceptions) to go along with 513 rushing yards and two more scores. Wilson continues to be the true definition of a dual-threat quarterback with his incredible accuracy at all three levels (70 percent completion), plus arm strength and the ability to use his legs as a weapon. He will begin the 2021 fantasy season an elite option with a high floor and high ceiling, but first, he will have to take on the Rams in the first round of the playoffs Sunday.
Dec 27, 2020
Accounts for two TDs vs. Rams
Wilson completed 20 of 32 pass attempts for 225 yards and a touchdown while adding nine yards and a touchdown on three carries during Sunday's 20-9 win over the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was hurried early and often by one of the NFL's top defensive units as he took five sacks and struggled to connect with his pass-catchers at times. He managed to avoid turnovers, however, and contributed his second rushing touchdown of the season before throwing a TD pass to Jacob Hollister to put the game away. After a stellar start to the campaign, Wilson has been held under 250 yards in six of his last seven games and has thrown multiple touchdown passes just twice in that stretch. With the NFC West crown in hand, he will set his sights on playoff positioning in next Sunday's matchup with the 49ers.
Dec 20, 2020
Throws for just 121 yards
Wilson completed 18 of 27 passes for 121 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 20-15 win over Washington. He also carried six times for 52 yards.
ANALYSIS
With a banged-up Seattle offensive line up against a fierce Washington pass rush, Wilson struggled to get much going through the air. He finished with just 4.5 yards per passing attempt -- his lowest mark of the year. However, the veteran quarterback was quite effective on the ground, ripping off a 38-yard run in the second quarter. That season-long run set up Seattle's first touchdown of the day, a 10-yard toss to tight end Jacob Hollister. The Seahawks let off the gas in the second half, however, as they failed to score on their final four offensive drives. Nevertheless, they accomplished enough to win their 10th game of the year and clinch a third straight playoff appearance. They may have a chance to lock up the division against a tough Rams defense in Week 16.
Dec 13, 2020
Fires four TDs in rout of Jets
Wilson completed 21 of 27 passes for 206 yards and four touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 40-3 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Aside from a first-quarter pick on a bomb into the end zone intended for DK Metcalf, Wilson was unchallenged by an overwhelmed Jets secondary and found four different receivers for scores, matching his TD total from his prior four games combined. Wilson now has a career-high 36 passing touchdowns (and a career-high 12 INTs) on the season, but he'll face a tougher test in Week 15's road matchup with Washington.
Dec 6, 2020
Struggles in loss to Giants
Wilson completed 27 of 43 pass attempts for 263 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 13 against the Giants. He added seven carries for 45 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson led a strong opening drive that led to a field goal, racking up 35 yards on six pass attempts. However, the Seahawks' offense didn't manage to put up points again until midway through the fourth quarter when Wilson connected with Chris Carson for a 28-yard touchdown. The result was an inefficient performance, summarized by Wilson averaging only 6.1 yards per attempt. Though a down performance, Wilson did manage to add value on the ground, surpassing 40 rushing yards for the third time in his last four games. He and Seahawks will look to get back on track in what should be an exceptional Week 14 matchup against the Jets.
Dec 1, 2020
Throws one touchdown in win
Wilson completed 22 of 31 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's 23-17 win over the Eagles. He also rushed six times for 12 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson didn't put up gaudy numbers, but he did enough to lead the Seahawks to victory and did not turn the ball over. The quarterback's lone touchdown came on a one-yard fade pass to David Moore during the second quarter, but Wilson had another one dropped by wideout DK Metcalf in the fourth. Although his scoring pace has slowed since his sensational start, Wilson remains the strong play ahead of Week 13's matchup against the Giants.
Nov 19, 2020
Efficient through ground and air
Wilson completed 23 of 28 passes for 197 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Seahawks' 28-21 win over the Cardinals on Thursday night. He also rushed 10 times for 42 yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson checked in under 200 passing yards for the first time all season, but he turned in a much-needed mistake-free effort devoid of some of the risky throws and questionable decisions that had characterized his play in recent contests. Wilson had thrown seven of his 10 interceptions on the campaign in three of his prior four games, but Thursday, he appeared to stick to what the defense gave him and picked his spots effectively. Two of those came on scoring strikes of 25 and 11 yards to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, respectively, in the first half. Wilson would go on to connect with eight different pass catchers overall on the night while posting only his second interception-free performance since Week 3. He'll now look to carry over the momentum into a Week 12 Monday night matchup against the Eagles on Nov. 30.
Nov 15, 2020
Sloppy performance in loss to Rams
Wilson completed 22 of 37 passes for 248 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 23-16 loss to the Rams. He also lost a fumble and added eight carries for 60 yards.
ANALYSIS
The veteran quarterback was never comfortable behind his offensive line, as he was quick to flee the pocket or concede the sack, taking six total sacks for a loss of 28 yards. Wilson appeared increasingly uncomfortable in the fourth quarter when the Seahawks were trying to erase a two-possession deficit, and perhaps the most glaring lapse was a delay of game penalty on third down with 7:59 remaining in regulation. At one point in the fourth quarter, second-year receiver DK Metcalf beat Jalen Ramsey deep with a clear path to the end zone, but Wilson didn't even look his way, a move that manifested visible frustration from Metcalf. The Seahawks will fall to third place in the division as a result, and they'll need to calibrate quickly with a Thursday night game against Arizona on deck.
Nov 8, 2020
Roughed up by Bills
Wilson completed 28 of 41 passes for 390 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 44-34 loss to the Bills. He also ran twice for five yards and a score, and he lost two fumbles.
ANALYSIS
The Seahawks got off to a tough start, as they went three-and-out on the first drive and Wilson tossed an interception on the next series. They started to turn it around after that, as Wilson scored on a rare QB sneak in the second quarter, and the Seahawks added a field goal on their final drive of the first half. Coming out of halftime with a 14-point deficit, the Seahawks' hopes of a quick score were squandered, as Wilson was strip-sacked just 18 seconds into the third quarter. Wilson wasn't consistent for the rest of the game, and his four turnovers were the most he's coughed up in a game since September of 2018. However, to provide solace to his fantasy managers, Wilson recorded his eighth straight multi-touchdown game and finished with a season high in passing yards. Wilson draws a tough Week 10 matchup against the Rams, who have allowed just 197.1 passing yards per game (second in the league).
Nov 1, 2020
Rips through 49ers
Wilson completed 27 of 37 pass attempts for 261 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 8 against the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Wilson terrorized the 49ers defense, orchestrating a touchdown in four of five drives spanning from late in the first quarter to the end of the third quarter. All told, he recorded his fourth game this season with at least four passing scores -- but his first since Week 3. Wilson threw two of touchdowns to D.K. Metcalf, highlighted by a slant across the middle that Metcalf took to the end zone for a 46-yard play. Through seven games, Wilson has made a strong case to be in the running for MVP, racking up 2,151 passing yards and 26 passing touchdowns. He'll look to maintain his excellent form in Week 9 against the Bills.
Oct 26, 2020
Roller coaster effort in OT loss
Wilson completed 33 of 50 passes for 388 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions in Sunday's 37-34 overtime loss to the Cardinals. He also rushed six times for 84 yards.
ANALYSIS
Coming off a bye week, Wilson revved up the Seahawks' offense quickly, completing his first five passes of the night for 65 yards and a touchdown to Tyler Lockett. He led two more drives that ended in field goals before marching into the red zone again only to toss an interception at the goal line to Budda Baker, who would've scored if not for a remarkable run-down effort by DK Metcalf. The rest of Wilson's night was up and down. The veteran signal-caller tossed two more scores to Lockett, who finished with 15 receptions and 200 yards, and he set a new career-high for rushing yards in a game. However, he was suffocated by the Cardinals' pass rush all night and threw two more untimely interceptions, including one to rookie Isaiah Simmons with 1:04 left in overtime, which set up the eventual game-winning kick. The highs outweigh the lows for fantasy purposes, as Wilson posted a sixth straight multi-touchdown effort while reaching a season-high in passing yards, but he'll look to eliminate the errors next week w

Three more touchdowns on SNF
Wilson completed 20 of 32 pass attempts for 217 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while adding 58 rushing yards on five attempts in Sunday's comeback victory over the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Wilson started the night a perfect 15 of 15 on pass attempts, and while he did have an uncharacteristic inaccurate interception in the second half, the magician was able to pull another late comeback victory to keep Seattle undefeated. The early MVP talks surrounding the 31-year-old are well warranted given his pocket mobility, incredible accuracy at all three levels (72.7 completion percentage) and his knack to carry his team to victory in clutch moments. Wilson is a top-five fantasy quarterback heading into his bye week, and will take on the Cardinals in Week 7.
Oct 4, 2020
Ties NFL record in win
Wilson completed 24 of 34 passes for 360 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 31-23 road win over the Dolphins. He also rushed four times for five yards.
ANALYSIS
Wilson seemed a bit off at times Sunday, and he tossed a rare interception in the end zone. Still, he was overall quite effective, recording a season-high 10.6 yards per attempt, and he threw two touchdowns, hitting Travis Homer and David Moore, after tossing a combined 14 through the first three weeks. With 16 touchdowns on the season, Wilson ties Peyton Manning for the most passing scores thrown through the first four games of a season. The MVP campaign is alive and well for the 31-year-old signal caller, and he'll look to pick apart a brutal Vikings defense that has allowed 13 passing scores in Week 5.
Sep 27, 2020
Makes history in shootout win
Wilson completed 27 of 40 passes for 315 yards and five touchdowns during Sunday's 38-31 win over the Cowboys. He added 22 rushing yards on six carries.
ANALYSIS
Incredibly, he could have had a sixth TD, but DK Metcalf thought he could coast into the end zone on a 62-yard catch-and-run and had the ball knocked out of his hands from behind, resulting in a touchback. Wilson is now the first quarterback in NFL history to throw for at least four touchdowns in each of the first three games of a season, and his 14 passing TDs during that stretch also breaks the NFL record of 13 set by Patrick Mahomes two years ago. Wilson will head to Miami in Week 4 to take on a Dolphins defense that's already been lit up by Josh Allen this season.
Sep 21, 2020
Fires off five touchdowns in win
Wilson completed 21 of 28 pass attempts for 288 yards, five touchdowns and an interception. He added 39 yards on five carries in a 35-30 win over New England.
ANALYSIS
Wilson was incredible once again, always keeping his club one step ahead of the Patriots' comeback attempts. The dual-threat quarterback completed a touchdown pass to five different receivers in this one, bring his season total up to nine through two contests. Wilson could be involved in yet another shootout next week against a Dallas squad that can put up points, but has trouble preventing them.
Sep 13, 2020
Remarkable in win over Falcons
Wilson completed 31 of 35 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday's 38-25 win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
With potentially the best set of pass-catchers in his career, Wilson was given a prime opportunity to showcase his talents Sunday as head coach Pete Carroll called just 17 run plays. The star quarterback came out of the gate hot, tossing two touchdowns to Chris Carson before he threw his first incompletion, and he added a 28-yard carry in the first half that put him over 4,000 rushing yards in his career. His efficiency ranked supreme, as he completed 88.6 percent of his passes -- the third-highest rate for a single game (35 attempts minimum) in NFL history -- and a whopping 9.2 yards per attempt. While this was a favorable matchup against the Falcons, it's encouraging to see the Carroll willing to throw the ball early in games. The Seahawks host a much tougher Patriots' defense in Week 2.

Sees big things ahead
Wilson believes he's just now entering the prime of his career, John Boyle of Seahawks.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 31-year-old may be slightly past his physical prime, but it would hardly be an oddity for an NFL quarterback to enjoy his best seasons in his early-to-mid 30s. Wilson also happens to have the best receiving corps of his career, with Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf forming a formidable duo at wide receiver while Greg Olsen and Will Dissly (Achilles) figure to get most of the targets at tight end. Seahawks OC Brian Schottenheimer has taken a lot of heat for his run-heavy approach, but he did find a better balance last season, with Wilson jumping from 427 pass attempts in 2018 to 516 in 2019. Another increase isn't out of the question, as Wilson has now reached a 65 percent completion rate and 8.0 YPA in back-to-back seasons.
Jan 12, 2020
Comeback falls short in Green Bay
Wilson completed 21 of 31 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown while adding 64 rushing yards on seven carries in Sunday's 28-23 divisional round loss to the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Wilson came up just short of digging his team out of a 21-3 halftime hole, tossing a seven-yard touchdown to Tyler Lockett in the process. This loss puts an end to an excellent campaign from Wilson, who finished with 4,110 passing yards and a 31:5 TD:INT in the regular season before knocking off the Eagles in the wild-card round. Coming off three consecutive seasons with 30-plus touchdown passes and still a threat to add meaningful contributions with his legs any given Sunday, Wilson should be among the first few quarterbacks off the board in fantasy next season.
