Signs with Niners
The 49ers signed McCormick to their practice squad Thursday.
ANALYSIS
McCormick was unable to make the Raiders' 53-man roster this summer and was cut Tuesday. In San Francisco, he'll provide organizational depth behind Christian McCaffrey, Brian Robinson, Isaac Guerendo and Jordan James (finger). McCormick posted a 39-183-0 rushing line across five regular-season games (two starts) in Las Vegas last season.

Unable to land roster spot
Las Vegas waived McCormick on Tuesday, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After injuries hit the Raiders' running-back room last season, McCormick got an opportunity to play significant snaps late in the campaign and tallied 142 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries across Weeks 13 and 14. However, he injured his ankle in Week 15 and ended the season on IR. McCormick was competing for a depth role behind Las Vegas newcomers Ashton Jeanty and Raheem Mostert during the preseason, but the team is opting to fill out the RB room with Zamir White and Dylan Laube instead.

In mix for depth role behind rookie
McCormick is expected to compete for a depth role behind rookie sixth overall pick Ashton Jeanty, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
McCormick has presumably recovered from the ankle injury that landed him on injured reserve to finish the 2024 season. Prior to getting hurt, McCormick filled in capably as a starter, rushing for 64 yards in Week 13 and 78 yards in Week 14. The 24-year-old running back will likely slide down a couple pegs on the depth chart following the additions of Jeanty in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft and veteran Raheem Mostert in free agency. McCormick may be competing for a roster spot with Zamir White, who was sidelined by a quadriceps injury to finish the 2024 season.
Dec 18, 2024
Placed on IR
The Raiders have placed McCormick (ankle) on IR.
ANALYSIS
The ankle injury that McCormick (who had logged two straight starts at running back) sustained in Monday's loss to the Falcons is thus slated to end the running back's season, with the Raiders eliminated from playoff contention. With Zamir White (quadriceps) also on IR, Alexander Mattison and Ameer Abdullahare poised to lead the team's backfield down the stretch, with Dylan Laube and Chris Collier in reserve. McCormick -- who is under contract with Las Vegas through 2025 -- finishes his 2024 campaign with 39 carries for 183 yards and six catches on seven targets for 29 yards in five contests.

Not expecting to return in 2024
McCormick (ankle) said Tuesday in a story on his personal Instagram account that he plans to "be back next season."
ANALYSIS
The Raiders haven't provided any updates on the severity of the ankle injury that forced McCormick out early in the second quarter of Monday's 15-9 loss to the Falcons, but the running back is implying himself that he's not expecting to be available for the final three games of the season. The ankle injury comes at a particularly tough time for McCormick, a 2022 undrafted free agent who didn't receive his first NFL carries until Week 12 and performed well enough over the previous three games for head coach Antonio Pierce to name him the team's starter prior to the Week 15 contest. Though he averaged a healthy 4.7 yards per carry on 39 totes through five games with the Raiders, McCormick probably won't be guaranteed a meaningful role heading into 2025, as Las Vegas is likely to seek upgrades to its backfield during the offseason.
Dec 16, 2024
Won't return to Week 15 contest
McCormick (ankle) has been ruled out for the remainder of Monday's matchup against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
McCormick was injured on a one-yard carry in the second quarter. He was deemed questionable to return ahead of Las Vegas' next offensive drive, then ruled out after halftime. McCormick logged eight yards on seven carries along with 17 yards on two receptions prior to exiting. The Raiders backfield will consist of Alexander Mattison, Ameer Abdullah and Dylan Laube for the remainder of the game.
Dec 16, 2024
Questionable to return to MNF
McCormick injured his ankle in Monday's Week 15 game against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
McCormick had his ankle rolled up on during a second-quarter carry and went to the locker room shortly thereafter. The Raiders announced near the midway point of the period that he's questionable to return. Prior to his exit, McCormick rushed seven times for eight yards and caught both of his targets for 17 yards. If McCormick is unable to return Monday, Alexander Mattison figures to work as Las Vegas' lead back, with Ameer Abdullah contributing behind him.
Dec 11, 2024
Secure as top man in backfield
Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce said Wednesday that McCormick will start Monday's game against the Falcons even if Alexander Mattison (ankle) retakes the field, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pierce said Mattison will "probably" return from his three-game absence versus Atlanta, but that McCormick has "run his tail off" and earned the No. 1 backfield role. With Mattison and Zamir White (quadriceps), who is now on IR, both sidelined as of late, McCormick has compiled 142 rushing yards on 27 attempts (5.3 YPC) in his last two appearances. He'll work to log another efficient showing versus Atlanta on Monday.
Dec 8, 2024
Impressive showing in loss
McCormick rushed 15 times for 78 yards and brought in two of three targets for 11 yards in the Raiders' 28-13 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
McCormick took full control of the Raiders' ground game in the absences of Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quadriceps), putting together his second straight efficient performance with the help of a team-long 29-yard run. McCormick's opportunities were somewhat limited by game script, making his numbers all the more impressive. With 142 rush yards on 27 carries over his last two games, McCormick appears likely to serve as the top back again in a Week 15 home matchup against the Falcons on Monday night, Dec. 16, irrespective of the status of his pair of injured teammates.
Dec 8, 2024
Another expanded role may await
McCormick is expected to work in a timeshare out of the backfield with Ameer Abdullah in Sunday's game at Tampa Bay with Zamir White (quadricep) ruled out and with Alexander Mattison (ankle) listed as questionable but considered unlikely to play, Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
The Raiders also have rookie sixth-round pick Dylan Laube on hand as another option at running back, though he played exclusively on special teams while Mattison and White were both out the previous two games. McCormick, meanwhile, was elevated from the practice squad for both contests and carried 17 times for 97 yards (5.7 YPC) to go with two receptions for one yard between those games. Though he has comfortably outpaced McCormick in snaps in both games and has been the superior pass-catching threat (seven receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown on eight targets), Abdullah is averaging just 3.7 yards on his 18 totes over the past two weeks, which could compel the Raiders to give McCormick more work on the ground Sunday. Las Vegas signed McCormick to its 53-man roster Tuesday, potentially giving him some security if one or both of White and Mattison are able to return to the mix later on this season.
Dec 3, 2024
Gets roster spot
The Raiders signed McCormick off their practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Wide receiver DJ Turner (knee) was placed on injured reserve to open up a spot on the 53-man roster for McCormick, an undrafted rookie out of UTSA who had already exhausted his three practice-squad elevations. With Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quadricep) both sidelined for Las Vegas' past two games, McCormick operated as the No. 2 back behind Ameer Abdullah for both contests, carrying 17 times for 97 yards (5.7 YPC) and recording two catches for one yard. Though Mattison and White could both be available for this Sunday's game at Tampa Bay, neither player has been efficient with his opportunities this season, so McCormick could continue to have a role out of the backfield.
Nov 30, 2024
Reverts to practice squad
McCormick reverted to the Raiders' practice squad Saturday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
With Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quadriceps) both inactive for Friday's game against the Chiefs, McCormick was thrust into backup running back duties behind Ameer Abdullah. McCormick finished Friday's game with 12 carries for 64 yards while adding two catches for one yard, and he played 26 snaps on offense while Abdullah led the Raiders' backfield with 42 offensive snaps. McCormick has an opportunity to reprise his backup role for Week 14 against the Buccaneers on Sunday, Dec. 8 if both Mattison and White were to be sidelined for that contest.
Nov 29, 2024
Strong showing in extended duty
McCormick rushed 12 times for 64 yards and brought in both targets for one yard in the Raiders' 19-17 loss to the Chiefs on Friday.
ANALYSIS
McCormick led the Raiders in rushing yardage, logging two additional carries and 25 more rushing yards than backfield mate Ameer Abdullah. McCormick had just seen his first five career touches in Week 12 against the Broncos and had been similarly efficient with a lighter workload, recording 33 yards on five carries on just eight snaps. The UTSA product, who twice rushed for over 1,400 yards in college, has undeniably shown promise, but it remains to be seen what his role will be if both Zamir White (quadriceps) and Alexander Mattison (ankle) are available for a Week 14 road matchup against the Buccaneers on Sunday, Dec. 8.
Nov 29, 2024
In Week 13 backfield mix
McCormick is active Friday against the Chiefs along with fellow RBs Ameer Abdullah and Dylan Laube.
ANALYSIS
With both Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quadriceps) inactive Friday, McCormick -- who logged eight offensive snaps and carried five times for 33 yards in the aforementioned duo's absence this past Sunday against the Broncos -- will have have an opportunity to see added work alongside Ameer Abdullah. In that context, McCormick represents a possible fantasy dart for those scrambling for Week 13 running back help.
Nov 28, 2024
Elevated again for Week 13
McCormick was elevated from the Raiders' practice squad Thursday ahead of Friday's contest against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
McCormick's elevation is his second in as many weeks and his third overall this season. With both Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quadriceps) out last Sunday versus Denver, McCormick logged eight offensive snaps and carried six times for 33 yards. White has been ruled out again this week, but Mattison is questionable to play, and if the latter suits up McCormick could see even fewer opportunities to take the field Friday.
Nov 25, 2024
Moves back to practice squad
McCormick reverted to the Raiders' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
With Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quadriceps) inactive for Sunday's 29-19 loss to the Broncos, McCormick was elevated for the contest and served as the Raiders' No. 2 RB behind Ameer Abdullah. Abdullah led the way with 13 touches for 65 yards from scrimmage and a receiving TD on a 90 percent snap share, while McCormick got the other 10 percent and turned five carries into 33 yards, and Dylan Laube was contained strictly to special teams. If one of Mattison or White is able to return Friday against the Chiefs, McCormick may not get the call for Week 13 action, but that won't be known until later this week.
Nov 23, 2024
Elevated for Week 12
The Raiders elevated McCormick from the practice squad Saturday.
ANALYSIS
With both Alexander Mattison (ankle) and Zamir White (quadriceps) listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Broncos, there's a path for McCormick to potentially see playing time in Week 12. Ameer Abdullah and rookie Dylan Laube are viewed as the favorites for backfield snaps should Mattison and White not gain clearance to play. McCormick's next offensive snap will be his first in the NFL.
Oct 8, 2024
Bumped back down
McCormick reverted to the Raiders' practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
McCormick got a chance with the active roster in Sunday's loss to the Broncos due to Zamir White (groin) being out of action. However, the UTSA product didn't see a single snap on offense, only getting to contribute on special teams.
Oct 5, 2024
Elevated from practice squad
The Raiders elevated McCormick from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday.
ANALYSIS
McCormick has been with the Raiders' organization since signing as an undrafted free agent in May of 2022. He has spent his entire NFL tenure on Las Vegas' practice squad, and Saturday is the first time he has been elevated to the active roster. With Zamir White (groin) ruled out for Sunday's game against the Broncos, McCormick will, if active, serve as the No. 4 running back behind Alexander Mattison, Ameer Abdullah and Dylan Laube.
Aug 28, 2024
Signs with Raiders' taxi squad
Las Vegas signed McCormick to the practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
McCormick finished the preseason with 17 carries for 60 yards while adding five catches for 18 yards. He spent all of 2023 season on the Raiders' practice squad, and he will reprise that role for 2024. McCormick should be called up to the active roster if Zamir White, Alexander Mattison, Dylan Laube or Ameer Abdullah miss time.
Aug 27, 2024
Let go by Raiders
Las Vegas waived McCormick on Tuesday, per the team's official site.
ANALYSIS
McCormick led the Raiders with 60 yards during the preseason slate, but he needed 17 carries to get to that total. The 23-year-old also caught five of six passes for 18 yards. McCormick spent 2022 on IR and was on Las Vegas' practice squad all of last season. He could end up back on the team's practice squad to begin 2024 if he clears waivers.
Jan 8, 2024
Signs with Las Vegas
The Raiders signed McCormick to a reserve/future contract on Monday.
ANALYSIS
McCormick failed to make the Raiders' 53-man roster after training camp, but he did sign with the team's practice squad Aug. 30. He didn't make an appearance this season, but he'll spend the offseason working and competing for a roster spot with Las Vegas for 2024.
Aug 30, 2023
Lands on practice squad
McCormick was signed to the Raiders' practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
McCormick went unclaimed on waivers after being let go Tuesday, and he will now join the Raiders' practice squad ahead of the 2023 campaign. The running back missed his entire rookie season in 2022 while being placed on IR, and he'll now look to impress during practice. McCormick will provide a depth option to be called up to the active roster if needed at any point in the season.
Aug 29, 2023
Gets cut Tuesday
McCormick (undisclosed) was waived without an injury designation by the Raiders on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
McCormick signed with Las Vegas as an undrafted free agent in 2022, but he was placed on IR in May and had to sit out the entirety of his rookie campaign. While the nature of his injury was never revealed, the 5-foot-9 running back now appears to be healthy since he was not designated with an injury Tuesday. Presuming he goes unclaimed on waivers, McCormick is now set to hit unrestricted free agency ahead of his age-23 season.
May 24, 2022
Lands on IR
McCormick (undisclosed) was placed on IR on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
McCormick joined the Raiders last Monday as an undrafted free agent. The nature of the injury is still unknown, but with the time McCormick is likely to miss it could certainly set back his chances of earning a spot on the roster.
May 16, 2022
Signs with Raiders
McCormick has signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent, Rachel Gossen of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
McCormick is coming off a record-setting career with UTSA including 3,939 career rushing yards and 34 rushing touchdowns. The 5-foot-9 running back is one of three ball carriers including Zamir White and Brittain Brown to join the Raiders this offseason. McCormick will likely compete with Brown as well as veterans Brandon Bolden and Ameer Abdullah for depth role this offseason.
