Heads to IR
The Colts placed Shrader (knee) on injured reserve Tuesday, Amanda Foster of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
His move to IR opens up room on the 53-man roster for Michael Badgley, whom the Colts signed to step in as their new kicker in place of Shrader, who will miss the rest of the season after suffering ACL and MCL tears to his right knee in Sunday's 40-6 win over the Raiders. The Notre Dame product had gotten off to an excellent start to the season, converting 13 of 14 field-goal attempts and 14 of 14 extra-point tries en route to an NFL-leading 53 points through the first five weeks. Shrader is under contract through 2026 and should have the inside track on the kicking job heading into next season if he's able to bounce back well from knee surgery.

Diagnosed with torn ACL and MCL
Coach Shane Steichen confirmed Monday that Shrader will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee in Sunday's win over the Raiders, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a tough blow for Shrader, who had finally been making his way in the NFL as a consistent kicker after winning the Colts' job this past summer. The Colts will now need to look outside the organization for a new kicker since they don't currently employ one on the practice squad. Shrader's season ends with him making 13 of 14 field-goal attempts and all 14 extra-point tries.

Suffers season-ending knee injury
Shrader is believed to have suffered a season-ending knee injury in Sunday's win over the Raiders, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Shrader was injured on an extra-point attempt when a Las Vegas player collided with Shrader's right knee, and he's believed to have suffered multiple torn ligaments, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports. The Colts will now be in the market for a new kicker. If Shrader's season is indeed over, he'll finish the 2025 campaign having made 13 of 14 field-goal tries and all 14 of his extra-point attempts.
Oct 5, 2025
Unlikely to return with knee injury
Shrader is doubtful to return to Sunday's game against the Raiders due to a right knee injury, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis report.
ANALYSIS
Shrader suffered the injury on an extra-point attempt in the second quarter, when Tristin McCollum ran into his right knee. Shrader was slow to walk off the field, and the Colts will seemingly be without a place kicker for the rest of the game, which would necessitate the offense to go for two-point conversions for the rest of Sunday's game.
Sep 28, 2025
Makes every kick Sunday
Shrader hit both of his field goals and both of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
The kicker drilled a 52-yarder in the first quarter and a 38-yarder in the fourth. Shrader has now made 13 of 14 field goals and all 12 extra-point tries in 2025. The Colts host the struggling Raiders next Sunday, which should give Shrader plenty of scoring opportunities.
Sep 21, 2025
Another productive day
Shrader made two of three field goals and all five of his extra-point attempts in Sunday's 41-20 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Indy's kicker recorded double-digit points for the third time in three games this season. Shrader is now 11 of 12 on field goals and 10 of 10 on extra points in 2025.
Sep 14, 2025
Kicks Indy to victory
Shrader drilled all five of his field-goal attempts and both of his extra-point tries in the Colts' 29-28 win over the Broncos on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader accounted for 17 of the Colts' 29 points in this one, making a 29-yard field goal to start off the scoring in the first quarter, followed by makes from 33, 36, 28 and 45. His 45-yard make won the game as time expired in the fourth quarter. On the season, Shrader has made all nine of his field goals and all five of his extra points.
Sep 7, 2025
Posts big line in Week 1
Shrader went 4-for-4 on field-goal attempts while making all three of his extra-point tries in the Colts' 33-8 win over the Dolphins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader got the scoring started in this one with a 4-yard field goal in the first quarter. He also made kicks from 35, 28 and 48 yards, as the Colts rolled the Dolphins. Shrader beat out Maddux Trujillo for Indianapolis' kicking job over the summer.
Aug 17, 2025
Likely clinched placekicking job
Shrader took all the kicks in Saturday's preseason game which likely means he's won the starting job, the Indianapolis Star reports. He made all four field-goal attempts, including a 56-yard field goal, and converted his lone extra-point attempt.
ANALYSIS
Maddux Trujillo is expected to get all kicking opportunities in the final preseason game. Shrader has been seen as ahead in the kicking competition throughout training camp.
Aug 8, 2025
Solid performance in preseason loss
Shrader made three of four field-goal attempts in Thursday's preseason loss at Baltimore. He missed a 52-yard attempt.
ANALYSIS
Shrader was seen having a significant lead over Maddux Trujillo for the placekicking job in training camp and Thursday's game should only help his cause. Trujillo may get more of an opportunity in the next preseason game (he converted his only extra-point attempt in Thursday's game).
Aug 7, 2025
Well ahead of Trujillo
Shrader has opened up a clear lead over Maddux Trujillo in the Colts' kicking competition, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Shrader has been far more accurate in camp, though he missed a long field-goal attempt in the final two-minute drill of a joint practice with Baltimore on Tuesday. While Trujillo doesn't appear to be a serious contender to win the job over Shrader, Boyd believes the Colts could add another kicker if Shrader struggles in the preseason, which begins for the Colts with a road game in Baltimore on Thursday.
Jun 16, 2025
Will face competition for K job
Shrader and and Maddux Trujillo are in a true competition for the starting placekicker job, special teams coordinator Brian Mason told 1075 FM The Fan in Indianapolis. "Spencer certainly has a little bit of a step up in that. He's already been in the league, already been here, but it is definitely an open competition," said Mason.
ANALYSIS
Shrader inked a two-year deal with the Colts mid-March after a tumultuous rookie campaign, in which he appeared in four combined games between Indianapolis, Kansas City and the Jets. He converted all five of his field-goal tries and all nine extra-point attempts across those appearances. The Colts will have a new kicker this season after releasing Matt Gay in April. While Shrader's two-year contract likely indicates he's the favorite, it wouldn't be surprising if Trujillo won the job or if the team acquired another veteran late in training camp for the job. Shrader will need to have a strong preseason as a result.
Apr 10, 2025
Competition departs
Shrader is the only remaining kicker on Indianapolis' roster following the release of Matt Gay on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader inked a two-year deal with the Colts mid-March after a tumultuous rookie campaign, in which he appeared in four combined games between Indianapolis, Kansas City and the Jets. He converted all five of his field-goal tries and all nine extra-point attempts across those appearances. Gay, meanwhile, went 31 for 37 on field-goal tries across 16 regular-season appearances with the Colts, with all six misses coming from 50-plus yards out. Indianapolis will doubtless bring in further options to compete with Shrader this offseason, but Gay's release provides him a clear path to securing the No. 1 job.
Mar 13, 2025
Circles back to Colts
Shrader signed a two-year deal with the Colts on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader had a whirlwind rookie season, as he appeared in games for the Colts, Chiefs and Jets. In total, he went 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts and converted all nine of his extra-point attempts across four games. Per James Boyd of The Athletic, Shrader will compete with Matt Gay for the kicker job this summer.

Non-tendered by Kansas City
Shrader (hamstring) became an unrestricted free agent Wednesday after the Chiefs did not tender his contract, Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Shrader played two regular-season games for the Chiefs while filling in for Harrison Butker, who was on injured reserve due to a knee injury. Shrader went 3-for-3 on field-goal attempts and made all six of his extra-point tries with Kansas City, but he himself went on IR in early December due to a hamstring injury. Now that he's an unrestricted free agent, Shrader will have the freedom to sign with a team looking to sign a kicker.
Dec 4, 2024
Lands on IR
Shrader (hamstring) has been placed on IR by the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Shrader is thus slated to miss at least four games, and in a corresponding move the Chiefs signed Matthew Wright to an active roster contract, which sets the stage for him to kick Sunday against the Chargers. Beyond that, it's possible that Harrison Butker (knee) could return to the mix as soon as Week 15.
Nov 28, 2024
Ruled out for Friday
Shrader (hamstring) has been ruled out for Friday's Week 13 matchup against Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Shrader wasn't able to practice at all this week due to a hamstring injury that occurred during a private workout Monday. The rookie took over kicking duties from the injured Harrison Butker (knee) for Kansas City in Week 11 and converted all three of his field-goal tries and all six of his extra-point attempts over two contests. With Shrader ruled out Friday, Kansas City elevated Matthew Wright from its practice squad to kick against the Raiders.
Nov 27, 2024
Logs DNP on Wednesday
Shrader (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader has now logged consecutive DNPs to begin the Chiefs' week of practice after injuring his hamstring in a private workout Monday, so it appears increasingly likely that he may be sidelined for Friday's matchup against the Raiders. The Notre Dame product has performed well while filling in for the injured Harrison Butker (knee) over the last two games, converting all three of his field-goal attempts and all six of his extra-point tries. Kansas City added Matthew Wright to its practice squad Tuesday, so he's expected to assume the Chiefs' kicking duties if Shrader is held out in Week 13.
Nov 26, 2024
DNP on Tuesday
Shrader (hamstring) did not practice Tuesday, Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Shrader made all three of his field-goal attempts and all three of his extra-point tries in Sunday's win over the Panthers. It's unclear when or how he was injured, but the Chiefs have a quick Week 13 turnaround with a Friday game against the Raiders. Kansas City signed veteran kicker Matthew Wright to its practice squad Tuesday.
Nov 25, 2024
Perfect in close win
Shrader made all of his three field-goal tries and converted all of his three extra-point attempts during Sunday's 30-27 win at Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Among Shrader's field goals in Week 12 was a 31-yarder as time expired to win the game for the Chiefs. He hasn't missed a kick since he took over at the position for Kansas City in Week 11, and he'll be looking to build on his success in Week 13 versus the Raiders.
Nov 18, 2024
Doesn't attempt field goal Sunday
Shrader did not have any field-goal tries but converted all three of his extra-point attempts during Sunday's 30-21 loss at Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
Shrader wasn't asked to do much in his debut with the Chiefs, but he wasn't one of the reasons they suffered their first loss of the season in Week 11. Kansas City will travel to take on Carolina in Week 12.
Nov 15, 2024
To handle kicking duties moving forward
Coach Andy Reid said Shrader will handle all kicking duties for the Chiefs during Harrison Butker's (knee) absence, Charles Goldman of AtoZSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Butker underwent surgery on the meniscus in his left knee Friday, resulting in his placement on injured reserve. As such, he'll miss at least four games during his recovery, a stretch that will allow Shrader to be the team's regular placekicker. Shrader has appeared in two games as a fill-in for the Colts and Jets this season, connecting on both field-goal attempts and all three point-after tries.
Nov 14, 2024
Filling in for injured Butker
The Chiefs signed Shrader off the Jets' practice squad Thursday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With Harrison Butker suffering a left knee injury that will likely result in his placement on injured reserve, Shrader is poised to take over as Kansas City's kicker beginning with Sunday's game against the Bills. An undrafted rookie out of Notre Dame, Shrader has previously made one appearance apiece for the Colts and the Jets this season, converting on field-goal attempts for 45 and 25 yards while going 3-for-3 on extra-point tries. During his five-year collegiate career, Shrader knocked down 68.3 percent of his field goals and had a long of 54 yards.
Nov 11, 2024
Moves back to practice squad
Shrader reverted to the Jets' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
With Greg Zuerlein (knee) on injured reserve, Shrader was the second kicker in as many games to get a chance, taking over for the the cut Riley Patterson in Week 10 at Arizona. Shrader connected on both of his field-goal attempts but didn't get a PAT. He's one of two kickers on the Jets' practice squad -- also, Anders Carlson -- but considering Shrader got the call this week, he likely has better odds to do so again this coming Sunday against the Colts.
Nov 9, 2024
Set to kick for NYJ in Week 10
The Jets elevated Shrader from their practice squad to their active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's matchup versus Arizona, John Pullano of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Shrader's elevation Saturday confirms that it will be he, rather than Anders Carlson (who was signed to New York's practice squad Friday), who will work as the Jets' placekicker Sunday. Shrader was signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent in May and served as Indianapolis' kicker in Week 1, making all three of his extra-point tries and not attempting any field goals. The Notre Dame product eventually landed with New York's practice squad Oct. 30, and he'll now get the opportunity to kick in his second NFL game. Shrader will replace Riley Patterson, who was cut by New York on Friday after kicking in the team's Week 9 win over Houston. Greg Zuerlein has been the Jets' kicker most of the season, but he's made just nine of 15 field-goal attempts on the campaign and is slated to miss at least three more games while on IR due to a knee injury.
Oct 30, 2024
Headed to Big Apple
Shrader signed with the Jets' practice squad Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Shrader signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent in the spring, and due to a Matt Gay injury was their Week 1 kicker, and made all three PATs, but didn't get to attempt a field goal. Since then he has bounced off and on the team's practice squad. He'll now spend Wednesday competing with Riley Patterson to see who will kick for the Jets on Thursday against the Texans, as Greg Zuerlein (knee) is not expected to play.
Oct 23, 2024
Dropped from practice squad
Shrader was cut from the Colts' practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader was once again cut from the Colts' practice squad, which has now become a weekly occurrence. The kicker will likely return to the practice unit with Indianapolis in the near future.
Oct 21, 2024
Back with Indianapolis
Shrader signed with the Colts' practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader has been cut and re-signed to the Colts' practice squad multiple times this season. It won't be surprising if this continues to happen in future weeks unless Matt Gay suffers another injury, in which case Shrader would likely move to the active roster.
Oct 16, 2024
Cut from practice squad
The Colts cut Shrader from the practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader has bounced on and off Indianapolis' practice squad multiple times this season, and he's now been let go to make room for running back Salvon Ahmed. While filling in for an injured Matt Gay in Week 1, Shrader converted all three of his extra-point tries. It won't be surprising if he resurfaces with the Colts in some capacity again this year.
Oct 14, 2024
Back with Colts' practice squad
Indianapolis signed Shrader to its practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader was cut from the Colts' practice squad less than a week ago, but he's now back on board after clearing waivers. As long as Matt Gay is available, it's not likely he'll be suiting up for game action any time soon.
Oct 9, 2024
Let go by Colts
Shrader was cut from the Colts' practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader re-signed with the practice squad in Indianapolis on Monday after being let go by the team earlier in the year, but he'll now once again look for another opportunity elsewhere. The kicker went 3-for-3 on extra-point attempts in Week 1 against the Texans while filling in for an injured Matt Gay with the Colts.
Oct 7, 2024
Joins Colts' practice squad
The Colts signed Shrader to their practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
The Notre Dame product filled in for the injured Matt Gay in Indianapolis' Week 1 loss to the Texans and made all three of his point-after tries. Shrader then reverted to the Colts' practice squad and was waived shortly after, but it now appears the team has had a change of heart. He could be elevated to Indianapolis' active roster if Gay deals with any further injuries this season.
Sep 9, 2024
Reverts to practice squad
Shrader reverted to Indianapolis' practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader converted on all three of his extra-point attempts Sunday while filling in for Matt Gay (sports hernia) as the Colts' starting kicker. If Gay ends up being unable to play versus the Packers, Shrader could be elevated once again.
Sep 8, 2024
Doesn't attempt field goal Sunday
Shrader converted all three of his extra-point tries but did not attempt a field goal in Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Matt Gay (hernia) was unable to practice leading up to Week 1, which prompted the Colts to promote Shrader from the practice squad. Shrader didn't end up attempting a field goal in Sunday's loss, though he was perfect on all of his extra-point attempts. Shrader will likely be elevated to the active roster for Week 2 against the Packers if Gay is unable to participate in practice.
Sep 8, 2024
Set for kicking duties
Shrader is in line to assume kicking duties for the Colts in Week 1 against the Texans after Matt Gay (hernia) was declared inactive.
ANALYSIS
Shrader was called up from the practice squad Saturday, and the rookie out of Notre Dame will now make his NFL debut. During his fifth collegiate season with the Irish, Shrader converted on 15 of 22 field-goal attempts and 61 of 62 extra points. While the accuracy wasn't tremendous, he did connect on four kicks of 50-plus yards that season.
Sep 7, 2024
Added to active roster
Shrader was elevated to the active roster from the practice squad ahead of Sunday's game against Houston.
ANALYSIS
Matt Gay missed practice all week after undergoing surgery on a sports hernia following Indianapolis' last preseason game Aug. 22. Shrader's promotion would appear to indicate Gay will not play Sunday, but we won't know for sure until inactives are announced about 90 minutes before a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Aug 29, 2024
Staying in Indianapolis
Shrader signed with the Colts' practice squad Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader was facing an uphill battle to beat out Matt Gay for the team's kicker job, but he did manage to earn a practice squad deal out of the team. An undrafted free agent out of USF, Shrader will likely have a chance to be the team's kicked if Gay gets injured.
Aug 25, 2024
Let go by Indianapolis
The Colts waived Shrader on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Shrader signed with the Colts in May as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame. He was brought in to compete against Matt Gay for the starting kicking job, and Shrader finished the preseason making both of his field-goal attempts and all four of his extra-point tries. Shrader should catch onto another team's practice squad if he clear waivers.
