Dell is scheduled to undergo a second procedure to repair multiple torn ligaments in his left knee Wednesday, Sam Warren of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Dell caught three of seven targets for 40 yards and added 19 rushing yards on two carries in Sunday's 29-27 win over the Colts.

The second-year wideout looked healthy, which was the most important thing after his rookie season ended early due to a broken fibula. While Dell's production wasn't impressive in his first regular-season action since December, his target volume was comparable to both Nico Collins (6-117-0 on a team-high eight targets) and offseason acquisition Stefon Diggs (6-33-2 on six targets). With Dell still apparently set for a significant role in the Texans' dynamic passing attack, he'll look to make a bigger impact in Week 2 against the Bears.

Dell continues to work with the first team offense despite the addition of superstar wideout Stefon Diggs this offseason and continued presence of Nico Collins as the No. 2 option. With C.J. Stroud looking like the real deal under center, the sophomore slot man may be a rare case in today's NFL of a true No. 3 receiver carrying "must-start" status in fantasy (a la Wes Welker with the 2007 Patriots). Dell has already proven his good health -- following last year's fractured fibula -- when he broke off a long touchdown catch in the Texans' first preseason contest before sitting out Saturday's exhibition finale.

Dell found a seam down the field then broke away from a pack of Pittsburgh defenders to get into the end zone on his only reception. It was encouraging to see the second-year wide receiver suit up after a fractured fibula cut his rookie season short in Week 13, and even more encouraging that Dell looked like his usual explosive self on his touchdown catch. Houston's starters played only two drives Friday but may see more run in next Saturday's preseason matchup with the Giants.

Wilson notes that Dell sat out the exhibition contest as a precautionary measure, and the rookie third-round pick's presence at practice supports that notion. As Week 1 approaches, Dell and Noah Brown, among others, are competing for slotting behind the Texans' presumed top two receivers, Robert Woods and Nico Collins. If Dell ends up claiming a key role early on this season he could emerge as a fantasy sleeper, but with rookie C.J. Stroud trending toward being the Texans' Week 1 starting quarterback, Houston's offense could be more reliant on the ground attack in the early stages of the season.

Coach DeMeco Ryans said Dell (undisclosed) was "feeling some tightness" in pregame warmups Saturday prior to the preseason contest against the Dolphins, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.

Dell didn't play in the exhibition loss to Miami, but Ryans said the rookie wideout "will be fine." His practice status will be monitored next week.

Dell caught five of eight targets for 65 yards and a touchdown in Thursday night's 20-9 win over the Patriots in the preseason opener.

Houston head coach DeMeco Ryans described Dell as "quarterback-friendly" following Sunday's camp session, Deepi Sidhu of the Texans' official site reports.

Dell, the former Houston Cougar, made a nice catch in front of fans, who erupted in cheers. Ryans called out Dell's ability to get open and route-running ability. Both Dell and fellow draftee Xavier Hutchinson have impressed early in camp and are in the mix for the final spots at wide receiver.

The Texans selected Dell in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, 69th overall.

Dell won't have to go far to meet up with his new team as the former Houston Cougar gets to stay in the area. A polarizing prospect, Dell was a dominant producer in college (32 receiving TDs) but his nickname of "Tank" is a bit of a misnomer; he's perilously slight at 5-foot-8 and 165 pounds. To be that small, standout athleticism is a necessity and Dell didn't show that at the combine with a 4.49-second 40-yard dash and a 121-inch broad jump. Houston doesn't have much settled in its receiving corps so there's a chance Dell finds his way onto the field, but his margin for error at the next level is small.
