Back with Philly
The Eagles signed Marshall to their practice squad Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2021 second-round pick from LSU was dropped from the Eagles' practice squad in early November, but it now appears the team has had a change of heart. Marshall's last in-game action came with the Raiders in 2024, when he caught three of six targets for 41 yards across seven contests.
Nov 4, 2025
Getting cut from practice squad
Philadelphia released Marshall from its practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Marshall signed with the Eagles' practice squad prior to Week 1, but now he's on his way out after Week 9. He'll become a free agent, and he'll probably have to look for his next opportunity to make an impression elsewhere.
Aug 31, 2025
Back with Philly on practice squad
The Eagles have signed Marshall to their practice squad, Olivia Reiner of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall didn't make Philadelphia's 53-man roster but was initially signed to the practice squad. The LSU product was then cut Friday, but he's now back on the practice squad after offensive lineman Kenyon Green was signed from the practice squad to the active roster.
Aug 29, 2025
Let go from practice squad
The Eagles cut Marshall from the practice squad Friday.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was slated to stick around in Philadelphia after failing to make the 53-man roster at the end of training camp, but the 2021 second-round pick has been removed from the team's practice squad to make room for running back Audric Estime. Marshall will explore his next options and look to catch on with a team's practice squad as a depth wide receiver.
Aug 25, 2025
Cut by Philadelphia
The Eagles released Marshall on Monday, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was limited by a knee injury during training camp, but he managed to play in the final two preseason games and finished with seven catches (on 11 targets) for 66 yards. The 2021 second-rounder had his moments during practices and preseason games, but it wasn't enough for him to crack the Eagles' 53-man roster. Marshall will explore his next options and aim to catch on with a team in need of depth at wide receiver.
Aug 23, 2025
Top receiver in preseason finale
Marshall (knee) caught five of seven targets for 51 yards in Friday's 19-17 preseason win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was sidelined by a knee injury for most of the preseason but made a strong case for a spot on Philadelphia's 53-man roster by leading the team in catches and receiving yards in Friday's preseason finale. The 2021 second-round pick of the Panthers is competing for a depth role with the Eagles. Marshall's chances of making the team got a boost this week when fellow wideout Johnny Wilson (knee) was placed on IR.
Aug 13, 2025
Logs another practice
Marshall (knee) participated in practice Wednesday, Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was sidelined for a couple of weeks before returning to practice in a limited fashion Saturday. The 25-year-old did not play in Philadelphia's preseason opener and should be able to suit up this Saturday as he tries to fight for a job in a wide receiver room that has some openings aside from the duo of DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown. He joined the Eagles on a one-year, $1.195 million contract in April after appearing in seven games for Carolina last season.
Aug 9, 2025
Limited in return to practice
Marshall (knee) was a limited participant in Saturday's training camp practice, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall did not play in the Eagles' 34-27 preseason win over the Bengals on Thursday due to a knee injury. He was cleared to return to practice Saturday, and while it was in a limited capacity, he did participate in team drills with the second-team offense, per Brooks Kubena of The Athletic. Barring any setbacks, Marshall appears on track to play in the Eagles' second exhibition game against the Browns on Saturday, Aug. 16.
Jul 31, 2025
Remains idle with knee injury
Marshall (knee) remained sidelined for Thursday's practice, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was injured during Tuesday's session and hasn't practiced since. The 25-year-old signed with the Eagles back in April after spending 2024 with the Panthers, 49ers and Raiders. Marshall appeared in seven regular-season games last season, all with Las Vegas, and caught three passes for 41 yards on six targets. He's trying to win a job in a top-heavy Philadelphia wideout room behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. Jobs are up for grabs behind the two locked-in starters, but Marshall needs to get healthy.
Jul 29, 2025
Suffers leg injury at practice
Marshall (leg) left Tuesday's practice early with a limp and was evaluated in the medical tent, Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall has built some momentum early at training camp, but he may now be forced to miss some time due to injury. The Eagles haven't yet commented on the severity of Marshall's apparent right leg injury, however. He's competing to carve out a depth role behind A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith (back) and likely No. 3 receiver Jahan Dotson.
Apr 10, 2025
Landing with Philly
Marshall has agreed to a one-year deal with the Eagles, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall, who the Panthers took in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, is coming off a 2024 regular season in which he recorded three catches for 41 yards on six targets in seven games for the Raiders. With the Eagles, Marshall will have a chance to compete for depth slotting behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but as long as the top duo is healthy, steady targets will be hard for the team's other wideouts to come by.
Jan 11, 2025
Finishes season with three catches
Marshall played 14 offensive snaps but was not targeted in the Raiders' Week 18 loss to the Chargers, closing out his 2024 campaign with three catches for 41 yards on six targets across seven games.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was a late-October addition to the Raiders' practice squad before ultimately being activated for seven contests in the silver and black, providing depth at wide receiver following Davante Adams' departure to the Jets and DJ Turner's (knee) placement on injured reserve. Marshall is still only 24 years old, so the former second-round pick will look to compete for a roster spot again in 2025, though it might not be in Las Vegas due to the upcoming arrival of a new head coach and general manager.
Dec 31, 2024
Catches 28-yard pass in win
Marshall caught one of two targets for 28 yards in Sunday's 25-10 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Marshall made his longest reception as a Raider on a 28-yard pass from quarterback Aidan O'Connell early in the second quarter, but the former second-round pick was targeted just once in the second half as Marshall continued to play behind Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker. A much more difficult test awaits in Week 18 when Las Vegas hosts the Chargers.
Nov 28, 2024
Signed to active roster
Marshall was signed to the active roster by the Raiders on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The wide receiver signed to the team's practice squad Oct. 22 and was elevated for Las Vegas' Week 11 loss to Miami, playing on seven offensive snaps and seeing no targets. Marshall, a 2021 second-round pick of the Panthers, caught 64 passes for 767 yards and a touchdown in three seasons with Carolina.
Nov 18, 2024
Back with practice squad
Marshall reverted to the Raiders' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Marshall appeared in his first game Sunday since joining the Raiders' practice squad in late October, failing to record a stat across seven offensive snaps. The 2021 second-round pick played in nine games with the Panthers in 2023, catching 19 of his 33 targets for 139 yards. He could be rejoin the Raiders' active roster if their wide receiver room faces injuries later this season.
Nov 16, 2024
Elevated for Week 11
The Raiders elevated Marshall from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was signed to the Raiders' practice squad Oct. 22 after being let go by the 49ers one week earlier. The 2021 second-round pick is set to make his 2024 regular-season debut, though he's unlikely to see heavy usage on offense as he's listed behind Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, DJ Turner and Ramel Keyton on the Raiders' wide receiver depth chart.
Oct 22, 2024
Headed to Las Vegas
The Raiders signed Marshall to the practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was cut from the 49ers' practice squad Oct. 15. He has yet to be elevated to the active roster this season, though he could get a chance with the Raiders following Davante Adams' trade to the Jets and Jakobi Meyers dealing with an ankle injury. Marshall appeared in nine regular-season games for the Panthers in 2023 and finished with 19 catches (on 33 targets) for 139 yards.
Oct 15, 2024
Let go by Niners
The 49ers cut Marshall from the practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
After being waived by the Panthers at the end of training camp, Marshall caught on with the 49ers' practice squad in late August. Despite Ricky Pearsall (shoulder) being on injured reserve, Marshall wasn't elevated to the active roster through the first six regular-season games, and the latter will now explore his next options. Marshall appeared in nine regular-season games for the Panthers in 2023 and finished with 19 catches (on 33 targets) for 139 yards.
Aug 28, 2024
Joins SF's practice squad
Marshall is signing with San Francisco's practice squad Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall didn't work out with the Panthers after being selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and went unclaimed after being waived by Carolina on Tuesday, but he could benefit from a change of scenery. The 49ers have seven wide receivers on their 53-man roster, but Jauan Jennings (oblique) and Ricky Pearsall (shoulder) are both battling injuries heading into the regular season, while Brandon Aiyuk held out in training camp due to a contract dispute that has yet to be resolved, so San Francisco may soon require reinforcements at wide receiver.
Aug 27, 2024
Time up in Carolina
The Panthers are slated to waive Marshall on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall, a 2021 second-round pick, failed to emerge as a consistent option across three seasons with Carolina, in which time he compiled just 767 receiving yards across 36 combined appearances. The offseason additions of Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette effectively spelled the end of Marshall's tenure with the Panthers, at least in any significant role, and he'll now get a chance to make the most of a fresh start elsewhere in the league.
Aug 18, 2024
Records two catches
Marshall recorded two receptions on three targets for 14 yards in Saturday's 15-12 preseason loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers held out their top pass catchers, leaving Marshall among the first receivers to take the field. He made both of his catches on the team's second possession, the first of which helped the offense convert on third down. Marshall has yet to find his footing as a pro and is likely fighting for his roster spot this summer.
Aug 8, 2024
Empty stat line in loss
Marshall failed to come up with either of his two targets in the Panthers' 17-3 preseason loss to the Patriots on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Marshall came up empty after impressing in training camp practices, but the Panthers rolled out undrafted rookie Jack Plummer as the starting quarterback Thursday. Marshall got extra opportunity Thursday with Diontae Johnson, Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette (foot) sitting out, and the fourth-year wideout will look to continue making his longshot bid for a roster spot during Carolina's second preseason game against the Jets on Aug. 17.
Jul 29, 2024
Shining early in camp
Marshall caught a deep pass at Monday's practice, continuing a trend from the first week of training camp, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Multiple Carolina beat writers have mentioned Marshall and Jonathan Mingo as surprise standouts through the first week of training camp. Both are former second-round picks that have disappointed so far, and any fantasy interest in them mostly died out after poor showings in 2023 were followed by the Panthers trading for Diontae Johnson and drafting Xavier Legette (32nd overall). It's still a long shot for Marshall to become useful in fantasy after managing just 767 yards and one TD over his first three professional seasons, but he could at least make it a competition with Legette and Mingo for the third WR spot alongside Johnson and Adam Thielen. Despite being in his fourth professional season, Marshall is only six months older than Legette and 10 months older than Mingo.
Jan 10, 2024
Plays nine games
Marshall finished the regular season with 19 catches on 33 targets for 139 yards and no touchdowns in nine games.
ANALYSIS
Marshall hasn't worked out after joining the Panthers as a second-round pick in 2021. The wideout was granted permission to find a trade during the season and was a healthy scratch for a large chunk after failing to secure an exit route. With Carolina set for a new front office and coaching staff this offseason, it remains to be seen whether Marshall will be around for the 2024 campaign, which marks the final year of his rookie contract.
Dec 31, 2023
Won't play Sunday
Marshall (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Marshall will sit for the seventh consecutive game as he continues to struggle to carve out a role in Carolina. He'll work to earn a chance to suit up again in Week 18.
Dec 24, 2023
Not suiting up
Marshall (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Packers.
ANALYSIS
Marshall will be a healthy scratch for the sixth straight week as the Panthers will choose to dress just four wide receivers for Week 16. The LSU product has 18 catches on 32 targets for 134 yards in his eight games with the Panthers this season.
Dec 17, 2023
Sidelined again
Marshall (coach's decision) will remain sidelined in Sunday's game against the Falcons, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official website reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall's absence will mark his fifth straight game on the sideline. The 2021 second-round pick's next opportunity to suit up will come in one week versus the Packers.
Dec 10, 2023
Inactive again Week 14
Marshall (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game at New Orleans.
ANALYSIS
Marshall hasn't seen the field since Week 10 and will once again be a healthy scratch for the Panthers. The 2021 second-round pick may not see the field again this season given his place on the depth chart.
Dec 3, 2023
Won't play Sunday
Marshall (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Buccaneers, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall will watch from the sidelines for the third straight contest. The LSU product has struggled to maintain a consistent role since getting selected in the second round of the 2021 Draft and currently has 18 receptions on 32 targets for 134 yards in his eight games played this season.
Nov 26, 2023
Inactive Sunday
Marshall (coach's decision) will be sidelined for Sunday's tilt against the Titans, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official website reports.
ANALYSIS
This will mark Marshall's second straight game as a healthy scratch. He appears to be the odd-man-out on the receiving depth chart right now. His next chance to play will come in one week versus the Buccaneers.
Nov 19, 2023
Healthy scratch Week 11
Marshall (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against Dallas.
ANALYSIS
The 2021 second-round pick won't suit up Sunday with Laviska Shenault (ankle) returning from a three-game absence. Marshall has 18 receptions for 134 yards this season but has just two catches for 20 yards in Carolina's past five contests. He was given permission to seek a trade in mid-October, but the Panthers were unable to reach a deal ahead of the trade deadline.
Oct 19, 2023
Has permission to find trade
Marshall recently received permission to seek a trade, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was a second-round pick in 2021 and among the younger players in his draft class, but there haven't been many signs of development despite multiple chances to start. He's only 23 and still hasn't played with a quality quarterback, so it isn't out of the question that another team would give up a late-round pick to see what Marshall has to offer. He played only 32 percent of snaps in a Week 6 loss to Miami ahead of Carolina's Week 7 bye.
Oct 16, 2023
No catches Sunday
Marshall didn't catch any of his three targets in Sunday's 42-21 loss to the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
Marshall at least saw the field after being surprisingly unused in Week 5. However, with no receptions, Marshall still posted a goose egg for the second straight week. According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, Marshall is reportedly available on the trade market as Carolina now enters its bye week.
Oct 9, 2023
Suddenly no snaps
Marshall was active but did not play a single snap in Sunday's 42-24 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was coming off a career-best nine catches and 10 targets in Week 4, but with rookie Jonathan Mingo returning to the lineup, Marshall didn't hear his number called once. That swing came despite the Panthers trailing by a sizeable amount and ultimately passing 41 times. After averaging over 43 offensive snaps through Carolina's first four games, it'd be surprising if the healthy Marshall isn't reincorporated in Week 6 versus the Dolphins, but Sunday's goose egg showed anything can happen.
Oct 1, 2023
Highly involved Sunday
Marshall caught nine of 10 targets for 56 yards in Sunday's 21-13 loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Marshall once again saw his role expanded with rookie wideout Jonathan Mingo (concussion) unavailable. In fact, that situation contributed toward Marshall setting career highs in both receptions and targets, leading the Panthers in both categories. Although his average of merely 6.2 yards per grab was unimpressive, Marshall nonetheless helped his value with Sunday's showing.
Sep 25, 2023
Larger role Sunday
Marshall caught five of eight targets for 35 yards in Sunday's 37-27 loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Marshall saw his playing time increase after rookie Jonathan Mingo (concussion) was knocked out of the contest. In featuring for nearly 60 percent of Carolina's offensive snaps, Marshall set a new personal best in single-game receptions while garnering the second-most targets of his career. His outlook for Week 4's matchup versus the Vikings figures to be impacted by Mingo's status.
Sep 19, 2023
Not targeted Monday
Marshall was not targeted in Monday night's 20-17 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Marshall, who led Carolina's wideouts in snaps Week 1, was pushed down the depth chart with DJ Chark making his season debut. His addition led to Marshall playing under 40 percent of the offensive downs, trailing rookie Jonathan Mingo, Adam Thielen and Chark. In a limited passing game thus far, Marshall's fourth receiver role doesn't seem to carry much fantasy upside.
Sep 11, 2023
Catches two passes
Marshall caught two of six targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Marshall overcame a back injury to suit up and ultimately lead Carolina's receivers in snaps. Featuring on 90 percent of the offensive plays, Marshall tied for second in targets, trailing tight end Hayden Hurst's seven. Although his production wasn't anything special, Marshall's usage with DJ Chark (hamstring) sidelined was encouraging. He could remain regularly involved alongside rookie Jonathan Mingo even when Chark returns to his starting place behind Adam Thielen.
Sep 8, 2023
Cleared to play, could start
Marshall (back) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game in Atlanta, while fellow Panthers wide receiver DJ Chark (hamstring) has been ruled out.
ANALYSIS
Marshall missed two weeks of practice in mid-to-late August and was a limited participant Wednesday and Thursday, but he'll be out there Sunday and quite possibly starting after the final injury report brought promising developments. In addition to Marshall's upgrade to full participation and no game designation, Chark's upcoming absence means there's not much competition on the roster for deep perimeter routes/targets. Rookie Jonathan Mingo is expected to spend a lot of time in the slot, and 33-year-old Adam Thielen (ankle) isn't exactly a burner even when he's fully healthy (rather than listed as questionable). There's a nice opportunity ahead for Marshall, Mingo and possibly Laviska Shenault -- even more so if Thielen joins Chark on the inactive list ahead of a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday.
Sep 7, 2023
Another limited practice
Marshall (back) practice in a limited capacity Thursday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
While Marshall maintained his activity level from Wednesday, fellow wide receiver Adam Thielen (ankle) did not, as he joined DJ Chark (hamstring) as a non-participant. If one or both of Thielen and Chark have to sit out Sunday in Atlanta, Marshall could have an elevated role alongside rookie Jonathan Mingo, assuming the former gains clearance to play.
Sep 6, 2023
Still limited at practice Wednesday
Marshall (back) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday ahead of Sunday's game at Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Marshall initially sustained a back injury back on August 14, and now his status for Week 1 is up in the air. If the 2021 second-rounder is unable to go, rookie Jonathan Mingo would likely be one of the largest beneficiaries in terms of snaps.
Aug 29, 2023
Practices in limited fashion
Marshall (back) returned to practice Tuesday as a limited participant, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Frank Reich said Marshall didn't participate fully but that his reps were "enough... a good first step," per Augusta Stone of the Panthers' official site. DJ Chark (hamstring) did rehab work Tuesday, while Laviska Shenault (concussion) was able to take the field in a red non-contact jersey. If Marshall manages to return for Week 1's match against the Falcons but Chark remains sidelined, he could start the season as one of Carolina's top three wideouts.
Aug 17, 2023
Expected to miss a few weeks
Marshall (back) is expected to miss a few weeks, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was injured in practice earlier in the week and is now likely to miss the remainder of the preseason. His status for Week 1 may also be in jeopardy, considering the season opener is in 24 days. With Marshall sidelined, rookie Jonathan Mingo should open the season as a starter alongside Adam Thielen and DJ Chark.
Aug 16, 2023
Won't play Friday
Marshall (back) is out for Friday's preseason matchup against the Giants, Augusta Stone of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Frank Reich said the Panthers are "still evaluating" the extent of Marshall's back injury. The third-year wideout pro as the No. 4 wideout in Carolina's preseason opener, so every remaining practice rep ahead of Week 1 will be crucial for any chance of Marshall earning a starting spot.
Aug 14, 2023
Dealing with back injury
Coach Frank Reich said Monday that Marshall "tweaked a little something in his back" prior to leaving Monday's practice in a cart, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Reich's statement clarifies the nature of Marshall's injury. After being blanked in Saturday's preseason opener against the Jets on both a personal and team level, Marshall will look to recover in time to play in Carolina's next preseason game Friday against the Giants.
Aug 14, 2023
Leaves practice on cart
Marshall (undisclosed) left Monday's practice on a cart, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall rode in the front seat of a cart while leaving Monday's practice, and Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports that the departure didn't seem 'super dramatic.' That paints a somewhat less alarming picture than Schefter's report of Marshall being carted off the field, but the third-year wideout's health will still need to be monitored. Marshall operated as Carolina's No. 4 wideout during the team's preseason opener against the Jets.
Aug 12, 2023
Opens preseason as WR4
Marshall wasn't targeted in Saturday's 27-0 preseason loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Marshall didn't start the game but checked in on the team's second possession while starting quarterback Bryce Young was still in the game. While Marshall didn't gain any ground on Adam Thielen, DJ Chark or rookie second-round pick Jonathan Mingo for a potential starting spot, none of those receivers posted multiple catches in this game, so Marshall could still make a push for a larger role with a strong performance against the Giants in Carolina's second preseason game.
Aug 3, 2023
Excelling in practices
Marshall has "really surged over the last four practices" and was one of Carolina's standouts at the team's in-stadium practice Wednesday night, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
The 2021 second-round pick previously earned praise from coaches and beat writers during the offseason program and seems to have continued the momentum into training camp. Despite catching only 45 passes for 628 yards and one TD through 27 career games, Marshall comes with some third-year-breakout potential in an offense that has a new playcaller (head coach Frank Reich) and a new quarterback (first overall pick Bryce Young). It helps that Marshall is one of the youngest players from his draft class, having turned 23 in June, though he'll still have to battle for snaps after the Panthers signed Adam Thielen and DJ Chark in March and drafted Jonathan Mingo in April. Chark's presence, in particular, could be a significant obstacle for Marshall, considering both are tall, fast receivers who primarily run routes downfield from outside alignments.
Jan 8, 2023
Makes two grabs
Marshall caught two of three targets for 23 yards in Sunday's 10-7 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Marshall actually led the Panthers in all major receiving categories, evidencing their struggles in the passing game. After being frozen out to begin his second campaign, the former second-round pick finished with 28 catches on 47 targets for 490 yards and one touchdown in 14 appearances. That production marked improvement from his rookie year, all the while dealing with a rotating cast of quarterbacks. Marshall will hope to retain his starting role behind DJ Moore in 2023, but as Carolina likely strives to increase its offensive upside, it wouldn't be surprising if Marshall's spot comes under competition prior to next season.
Jan 2, 2023
Quiet in defeat
Marshall caught two of three targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 30-24 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Marshall also coughed the ball up twice but didn't lose either fumble. The wideout had topped 50 yards in consecutive contests entering Sunday, so he'll strive to bounce back and finish the season strong in Week 18 versus his home-state Saints.
Dec 26, 2022
Makes two grabs
Marshall caught two of three targets for 55 yards in Week 16's 37-23 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Marshall again finished second on the Panthers in receiving, going for gains of 36 and 19 yards. Although he lacks volume in the passing game, Marshall's average of 18.8 yards per catch offers value through big plays.
Dec 18, 2022
Catches all looks
Marshall caught all three of his targets for 51 yards in Sunday's 24-16 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Marshall's total included a 40-yard gain during the first quarter. In the end, only top wideout DJ Moore had more receptions and targets than Marshall. After hardly being used during the start of the season, last year's second-rounder has now topped 50 yards four times in his last seven outings.
Dec 12, 2022
Catches only look
Marshall caught his only target for 18 yards in Sunday's 30-24 win over the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Marshall has now made just one reception in back-to-back games. Although fellow starting wideout DJ Moore posted a goose egg Sunday, Marshall's lack of production with quarterback Sam Darnold should temper his already lukewarm stock in Week 15 versus the Steelers.
Nov 30, 2022
Quiet in win
Marshall caught one of three targets for eight yards in Sunday's 23-10 win over the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Marshall's three targets were the second most of any Panthers pass catcher behind only DJ Moore, who finished with four catches on six targets for 103 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Sam Darnold made his first start of the season Sunday, and while Carolina's receivers had to deal with yet another in-season quarterback change, Moore was the biggest benefactor. Marshall just couldn't get anything going on a day when Darnold threw for only 164 yards. The second-year wideout will look to build chemistry with his signal caller as the team enters their bye week. The Panthers visit the Seahawks in Week 14, and Marshall will look to take a step forward and improve upon his underwhelming Week 12 performance.
Nov 27, 2022
Available Sunday, as expected
Marshall (shoulder) is officially active for Sunday's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old was considered questionable for Sunday's contest, but it's no surprise he'll be suiting up after he practiced Friday with no limitations. Marshall has 13 receptions for 290 yards and one touchdown in five games since Robbie Anderson was traded to the Cardinals, though he'll have to contend with another quarterback change with Sam Darnold taking over under center versus Denver.
Nov 25, 2022
Listed as questionable, should play
Marshall (shoulder) was a full practice participant Friday but is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
While the full participation makes Marshall likely to play, cautious fantasy managers will want to make sure he's not named on the inactive list around 11:30 a.m. ET this Sunday. The 2021 second-round pick has been one of the few bright spots for Carolina of late, averaging 2.6 catches for 58.0 yards on 5.2 targets in five games since Robbie Anderson was traded to Arizona. A lot of his yardage has come from jump balls, but it's possible Marshall shows better short/intermediate-area chemistry with Sam Darnold, who is taking over as the starting QB this Sunday.
Nov 24, 2022
Limited Thursday
Marshall (shoulder) was listed as limited on Thursday's practice report, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
For the second day in a row, Marshall received such a listing, giving him just one more chance to get back to all activity before Carolina potentially gives him a designation ahead of Sunday's contest against the Broncos. If he's available this weekend, he'll be working with his third quarterback in as many games, with interim coach Steve Wilks going with Sam Darnold under center.
Nov 23, 2022
Dealing with shoulder injury
Marshall was a limited practice participant Wednesday due to a shoulder injury.
ANALYSIS
Marshall's ability to practice in any capacity at the beginning of the week bodes well for his availability for Sunday's matchup with Denver. The 2021 second-round pick had only 30 yards over the first six weeks of the season but is averaging 2.6 catches for 58 yards on 5.2 targets in five starts since taking over for Robbie Anderson as Carolina's No. 2 receiver. The Panthers are turning to Sam Darnold under center Sunday against the Broncos.
Nov 20, 2022
Team-high yardage total
Marshall secured three of six targets for 76 yards in the Panthers' 13-3 loss to the Ravens on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Marshall made a splash play through the air for the second straight game after also recording a 43-yard grab in the Week 10 win over the Falcons. The second-year receiver has over 70 receiving yards in two of his last three games and multiple catches in four of his last five, commendable accomplishments when considering the state of the Panthers' quarterback situation.
Nov 11, 2022
Makes splash on only reception
Marshall brought in one of two targets for 43 yards in the Panthers' 25-15 win over the Falcons on Thursday night.
ANALYSIS
Marshall led the Panthers in receiving yards despite making just one catch, which came on a late third-quarter drive that culminated in a 12-yard touchdown run for D'Onta Foreman. The second-year wideout's increased role over the last four games is encouraging, as he's posted 214 receiving yards and a touchdown on 10 catches in that span. Marshall's next opportunity to continue strengthening his grip on the No. 2 receiver role will come against the Ravens in a Week 11 road matchup a week from Sunday.
Nov 6, 2022
First career touchdown
Marshall recorded three receptions on six targets for 53 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 42-21 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Marshall -- along with the entire Panthers' offense -- was stymied in the first half of Sunday's blowout loss. However, he showed some rapport with Baker Mayfield and also benefitted from soft coverage to tally his first career touchdown on a 21-yard catch midway through the fourth quarter. While Sunday's stat line was somewhat misleading, Marshall does have seven receptions for 140 yards on 15 targets combined across his last two games.
Oct 30, 2022
Career-high nine targets in Week 8
Marshall caught four of nine targets for 87 yards in Sunday's 37-34 overtime loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Marshall set new single-game career highs in targets and receiving yards. The 2021 second-round pick is still searching for his first NFL touchdown, but Marshall has an opportunity to establish himself as Carolina's No. 2 wide receiver behind DJ Moore.
Oct 23, 2022
Two catches in Week 7 win
Marshall secured two of three targets for 31 yards in the Panthers' 21-3 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
With the Panthers playing their first game without both Christian McCaffrey and Robbie Anderson, Marshall stepped up with the second-highest receiving yardage total on the day behind DJ Moore. The second-year wideout was one of four pass catchers to record a gain of at least 20 yards through the air, and it's possible Marshall develops into a reliable No. 2 option alongside Moore if he can continue to outperform Laviska Shenault and Shi Smith.
Oct 19, 2022
Could replace Robbie Anderson?
Coach Steve Wilks said Marshall and Laviska Shenault (hamstring) both looked good at Wednesday's practice, with Wilks declining to name a replacement in the starting lineup for Robbie Anderson, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Anderson caught 13 of 27 targets for 206 yards and a touchdown in six games before the Panthers traded him to Arizona on Monday. The TD and more than one-third of his yardage came on a broken coverage Week 1, with that and one long catch-and-run by Shenault in Week 3 representing a large chunk of the team's WR production this year. It's hard to imagine Marshall or Shenault making a serious dent in an offense where D.J. Moore is averaging only 34.0 yards per game, but the pair of second-round picks will at least have a chance at more playing time. Shi Smith has been the team's No. 3 receiver so far, and with 105 yards on the season his spot could come into question soon as well.
Oct 17, 2022
Just one look
Marshall didn't catch his only target in Sunday's 24-10 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Marshall played 45 percent of Carolina's offensive snaps but failed to find the stat sheet. Although he's hardly featured to begin his second season, the recent second-round pick could see his opportunities increase following Monday's trade of fellow wideout Robbie Anderson. With PJ Walker (neck) being injured Sunday, however, it's unclear who will be under center for Week 7's game versus the Buccaneers.
Oct 10, 2022
Tallies first receptions of 2022
Marshall was on the field for 26 of the Panthers' 69 snaps on offense in Sunday's 37-15 loss to the 49ers, finishing with four receptions for 30 yards on four targets.
ANALYSIS
While taking the field for just the second time in five games this season, Marshall stepped in as the Panthers' No. 4 wideout ahead of Rashard Higgins while Laviska Shenault (hamstring) was inactive. Though his 7.5 yards per target were better than the Panthers' mark as a team on the day (6.5), it's worth noting that two of Marshall's looks came in garbage time, when P.J. Walker took over under center for Baker Mayfield. Walker should get the chance to start Week 6 against the Rams with Mayfield likely to sit out that game due to a high-ankle sprain, but whether Marshall gets the chance to continue establishing a rapport with Walker will likely hinge on Shenault's availability.
Oct 2, 2022
Healthy scratch again
Marshall (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Cardinals, Darin Gantt of Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall will sit again, as Laviska Shenault has pushed him down the wide receiver depth chart. He'll use practice this week to try and earn a chance to be active in Week 5 against the 49ers.
Sep 25, 2022
Healthy scratch Sunday
Marshall (coach's decision) is inactive against the Saints on Sunday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall is the wide receiver who will sit as Laviska Shenault will be active for the first time as a Panther. The former continues to struggle to make headway on the team's positional depth chart, not playing a single-snap in Week 1, then following that up with just six in Week 2.
Sep 20, 2022
Plays six offensive snaps in loss
Marshall failed to draw a single target in Sunday's 19-16 loss to the Giants.
ANALYSIS
After failing to play any offensive snaps in Week 1, Marshall did see limited game action against the Giants. Unfortunately, the 22-year-old wideout was not targeted by quarterback Baker Mayfield on any of his six offensive snaps as he continues to be an afterthought in Carolina's offensive game plan. Marshall will remain off the fantasy radar when the Panthers host the Saints in Week 3.
Sep 16, 2022
Making progress per coach
Coach Matt Rhule said Marshall had his best week of practice this week and added that he's "hopeful" Marshall will see the field in Week 2, Ellis Williams of the Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall didn't play a single snap in the season opener. The 2021 second-round pick doesn't appear to be injured, so whether Marshall sees the field will come down to whether his coach believes the wide receiver's ready to contribute.
Sep 12, 2022
Sidelined all game
Marshall was active but did not play a single snap in Sunday's 26-24 loss to the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Marshall and fellow wideout Rashard Higgins both watched the entirety of Sunday's game from the sidelines, allowing Shi Smith to serve as Carolina's third wideout. Following that surprising development to begin his second season, it'll be worthwhile to monitor Marshall's situation ahead of Week 2's matchup versus the Giants.
Aug 27, 2022
Returns to field
Marshall did not catch his only target in Friday's preseason win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Marshall started alongside DJ Moore and Shi Smith, leaving Rashard Higgins as the odd-man out. Marshall's only target came in the third quarter from Sam Darnold (ankle) -- his only stat of the game. Though it came with little production, Marshall's presence on the field was encouraging after he suffered a hamstring injury Aug. 19 and was forced to miss Carolina's second preseason game.
Aug 23, 2022
Limited at practice
Marshall (hamstring) was limited at Tuesday's practice after returning Monday as a full participant, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It might be a sign he's trying to come back from a hamstring strain too soon, but could also just be the team being cautious. Either way, the missed time has prevented Marshall from making his case for a top-three spot, though he's far from the only Carolina wideout that's been banged up this summer. Rashard Higgins, however, has been healthy, and he's arguably Marshall's biggest competition for playing time as the third receiver.
Aug 22, 2022
Returns to practice
Marshall (hamstring) returned to practice Monday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall missed the Panthers' first two preseason games, while Rashard Higgins caught five of six targets for 33 yards and a touchdown. Marshall, Higgins and Brandon Zylstra seem to be competing for the No. 3 receiver job behind DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson, both of whom also have dealt with minor injuries this summer.
Aug 19, 2022
Hamstring issue
Marshall (hamstring) isn't in line to play in Friday's preseason game against the Patriots, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Person relays that the wideout isn't in uniform for the contest after aggravating his hamstring. Marshall's next chance to suit up for preseason action arrives next Friday versus the Bills.
Aug 15, 2022
Returns to practice
Marshall (lower leg) was back on the field practicing in full Monday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall's injury was first reported Aug. 5, and he's been out or limited during practice ever since. Selected in the second round of the 2021 Draft, Marshall struggled last season only catching 17 passes on 30 targets for 138 yards in 13 games. Now healthy, Marshall will look to establish himself on the Panthers' positional depth chart, while working towards a breakout sophomore campaign.
Aug 13, 2022
In line to return to practice
Coach Matt Rhule expects Marshall (lower leg) to take part in joint practices with the Patriots on Tuesday and Wednesday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall has been dealing with a lower leg strain for more than a week, donning a red non-contact jersey in practice and sitting out the Panthers' preseason opener Saturday at Washington. Assuming he's able to get back on the field for one or both of the joint sessions with the Pats, he'll have a decent shot to be available for Friday's exhibition at Foxboro.
Aug 13, 2022
Still missing time
Marshall (lower leg) will not play in Saturday's preseason matchup against the Commanders.
ANALYSIS
This isn't a particularly surprising decision as Marshall has been dealing with a lower leg strain for most of training camp. DJ Moore and Christian McCaffrey are both healthy absences for the preseason opener which means Rashard Higgins should see the majority of first-team reps at wide receiver.
Aug 9, 2022
In non-contact jersey
Marshall (lower leg) is practicing Tuesday with a red non-contact jersey, Joe Person of The Athleticreports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall suffered a lower leg strain last week, so it's encouraging to see him back on the practice field even as a non-contact participant. The second-year pro is working to take a step forward in Carolina's offense after recording just 138 receiving yards in 13 games as a rookie. Marshall has a few more days to heal up prior to Saturday's preseason opener in Washington.
Aug 5, 2022
Strains lower leg
Marshall has a lower leg strain, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Person didn't speak to the severity of the injury, so Marshall can be viewed as day-to-day until an update emerges. Carolina's second-round selection has just over a week to heal up before the team's Aug. 13 preseason opener against Washington.
Jul 6, 2022
Stock trending up
Marshall said he's more comfortable running routes and processing while on the field heading into his second season, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall has taken a "massive leap" according to star tailback Christian McCaffrey, raising expectations after an underwhelming rookie campaign that included just 17 catches for 138 yards in 13 games. A second-round pick last year, Marshall will need to acclimate to new coordinator Ben McAdoo's scheme while competing with veteran addition Rashard Higgins for Carolina's third-wideout role behind DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson. While Marshall's progress this offseason is encouraging to note, he'll also potentially face a change at quarterback, as the Panthers acquired Baker Mayfield on Wednesday to compete with Sam Darnold for the starting job ahead of this season.
May 6, 2022
In mix for No. 3 WR slot
Marshall and Rashard Higgins are both in the mix to claim the Panthers' No. 3 wide receiver job, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, DJ Moore and Robbie Anderson continue to top the team's wideout depth chart. Marshall -- a 2021 second-rounder -- is coming off a rookie season in which he caught 17 passes (on 30 targets) for 138 yards in 13 games. Presumably past a foot issue that landed him on IR late last season -- he'll have to compete for slotting with Higgins (24/275/1 in 15 games with the Browns) , but if either Moore or Anderson miss time at any point this season, whoever slots in as the team's WR3 could yield a degree of fantasy utility, regardless of who the team's starting QB is at that time.
Jan 10, 2022
Injury considered short-term
Coach Matt Rhule said Monday that he believes Marshall (foot) is dealing with a short-term injury, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury for the regular-season finale, but he's expected to be ready to participate in OTAs this spring. Once the 21-year-old returns to full health, he'll work on carving out a larger role after he caught just 17 of 30 targets for 138 yards during his rookie season.
Jan 5, 2022
Moves to IR
Marshall was placed on injured reserve Wednesday with a foot injury, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
It's a disappointing end to a quiet rookie season, one in which the second-round pick caught only 17 passes for 138 yards and eventually lost the No. 3 receiver job to Brandon Zylstra. In his defense, Marshall is on the young side for a rookie, turning 21 a month after the 2021 NFL Draft, and he spent his debut campaign in one of the worst passing offenses in the league. Still, it's far from promising, especially with the Panthers facing an uncertain future at the QB position.
Jan 5, 2022
Expected to miss season finale
The Panthers are expected to place Marshall (undisclosed) on injured reserve Wednesday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Carolina placing Marshall on IR would officially rule him out for Week 18, though the nature of his injury remains undisclosed. In any case, Marshall's tremendously disappointing rookie season is on the cusp of coming to a close. Through 13 appearances, the 2021 second-round pick has secured only 17 of 30 targets for 138 yards. He has yet to score his first NFL touchdown.
Jan 3, 2022
Makes two grabs
Marshall caught both of his targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 18-10 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Marshall turned in his first multi-reception game since Week 5, playing over 70 percent of Carolina's offensive snaps despite teammate Brandon Zylstra returning from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Although his production still wasn't anything special, the fact Marshall played 44 snaps compared to Zylstra's three could suggest he's in line to finish the campaign as the Panthers' third wideout, potentially aiding his admittedly low fantasy relevancy ahead of Week 18's matchup versus the Buccaneers.
Dec 27, 2021
Breaks catch slump
Marshall caught his only target for six yards in Sunday's 32-6 loss to the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Marshall made his first reception since Week 6 as teammate Brandon Zylstra was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list ahead of Sunday's kickoff. While finally breaking his catch slump is a welcomed development for Marshall, he still was only targeted once on 41 offensive snaps. Such underwhelming involvement further emphasizes Marshall's restricted upside, and although giving the rookie second-rounder more chances to close the season could be a priority of the Panthers, Zylstra's potential return in Week 17 versus the Saints could impact Marshall's usage.
Dec 20, 2021
Another goose egg
Marshall didn't catch his only target in Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Marshall played just eight offensive snaps while Brandon Zylstra featured for 54 plays, clearly evidencing the current pecking order of Carolina's third and fourth wideouts. Having dropped down the depth chart in an underwhelming offense, the rookie Marshall's fantasy value is severely restricted heading into the final three weeks of the campaign.
Dec 13, 2021
Not targeted Sunday
Marshall was not targeted in Sunday's 29-21 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Marshall returned to the lineup after being a healthy scratch in Carolina's last game. Although he played almost half of the team's offensive snaps, Marshall didn't get any looks his way in the passing game and veteran Brandon Zylstra again outperformed him, finishing with four catches for 45 yards while playing a few more snaps. Without a catch since Week 6, Marshall has run into a substantial rookie wall that has seen Zylstra surpass him in the pecking order.
Dec 12, 2021
Returns Sunday
Marshall will play Sunday against the Falcons, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was a healthy scratch in Week 12 against the Dolphins. The rookie second-round selection has struggled this season, not recording a catch since Week 6 against the Vikings. He'll try to get going Sunday against the Falcons.
Nov 28, 2021
Healthy scratch Sunday
Marshall (coach's decision) is listed as inactive Sunday at Miami, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall previously sat out Weeks 7 and 8 due to a concussion, but this time around his absence can be attributed to a healthy scratch. The rookie second-rounder actually has recorded a catch since Week 6, failing to gather in any of his four targets in three appearances in the meantime. Behind top wide receivers DJ Moore and Robby Anderson, the Panthers will have Brandon Zylstra, Alex Erickson, Shi Smith and Matt Cole available at wide receiver for Sunday's game.
Nov 22, 2021
No catches Sunday
Marshall didn't haul in his only target in Sunday's 27-21 loss to Washington.
ANALYSIS
Marshall, despite making three appearances, hasn't caught a single pass since suffering a concussion in Week 6. On Sunday, backup Brandon Zylstra played 10 more offensive snaps than him. The rookie will strive to get out of his slump in Week 12 versus the Dolphins.
Nov 15, 2021
Catches conversion Sunday
Marshall didn't catch either of his two targets but hauled in a two-point conversion in Sunday's 34-10 win over the Cardinals.
ANALYSIS
Marshall caught at least three passes in each of his first three games, but he's seen his production flat line since then. The rookie hasn't hauled in a pass in two games since returning from a concussion, but Marshall at least helped with his conversion reception Sunday.
Nov 8, 2021
No grabs in return
Marshall didn't catch his only target in Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Patriots.
ANALYSIS
Marshall returned after missing the prior two games due to a concussion, but the wideout failed to make an impact amid continued struggles from quarterback Sam Darnold. On the bright side, Marshall trailed only starters DJ Moore and Robby Anderson in snaps among Carolina's receivers, immediately reclaiming his third wideout role.
Nov 4, 2021
Out of concussion protocol
Marshall cleared the concussion protocol Thursday, making him available to return Sunday versus the Patriots, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall missed the last two games after taking a massive hit from Vikings safety Xavier Woods in Week 6. Prior to the early exit, he has actually increasing his share of the offensive snaps through the first five games of his career, going from 52 percent in the season opener to 76 percent by Week 5. Marshall only produced a 13-107-0 line on 20 targets during that five-game stretch, but the playing time was an encouraging sign that regular production was possible. He'll slot in behind DJ Moore and Robby Anderson moving forward.
Nov 3, 2021
Back to full participation
Marshall (concussion) practiced in full Wednesday, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall remains in the protocol for head injuries, but considering his activity level to begin Week 9 prep he's closing in on gaining clearance from an independent neurologist to return to action. He's been sidelined the past two games due to a concussion, but his absence has had a trickle-down effect on Shi Smith or Alex Erickson, who have combined for one catch and three targets during that stretch.
Oct 29, 2021
Remains absent in Week 8
Marshall (concussion) won't play Sunday against the Falcons, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall hasn't practiced since suffering a concussion in Week 6, so it's not surprise that the rookie wide receiver will remain sidelined for a second consecutive game. Shi Smith and Alex Erickson will continue to vie for snaps in three-receiver sets alongside DJ Moore and Robby Anderson, though their roles aren't expected to be fruitful with Sam Darnold struggling to connect with any receivers besides Moore on a consistent basis. Marshall doesn't appear to have cleared the NFL's concussion protocol yet and will need to do so in order to make his return in Week 9 against the Patriots.
Oct 28, 2021
Out again Thursday
Marshall (concussion) was still inactive for Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
The wide receiver is still yet to practice since suffering the concussion in Week 6 against the Vikings. He still has to clear concussion protocol before he can return to game action and appears unlikely to suit up Sunday against the Falcons. If Marshall remains out in Week 8, Keith Kirkwood and Shi Smith will garner more snaps once again.
Oct 27, 2021
Misses practice
Marshall (concussion) didn't practice Wednesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The rookie entered concussion protocol Week 6 and missed a Week 7 loss to the Giants. With No. 4 receiver Brandon Zylstra (hamstring) on injured reserve, Keith Kirkwood and Shi Smith both got playing time in Marshall's absence, combining for seven targets and 49 snaps. It could be the same deal again this Sunday at Atlanta if Marshall can't clear protocol by the end of the week.
Oct 22, 2021
Not playing Week 7
Marshall (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After he was diagnosed with a concussion coming out of the Panthers' Week 6 loss to the Vikings, Marshall was unable to practice in any capacity Wednesday through Friday. As a result, the Panthers' decision to rule Marshall out for the Week 7 matchup comes as little surprise. With Marshall sidelined for the first time this season and Alex Erickson (concussion) listed as questionable but uncertain to play Sunday, rookie Shi Smith could have a regular spot in three-wide sets alongside DJ Moore and Robby Anderson.
Oct 21, 2021
Absent from practice again
Marshall (concussion) didn't practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
With no practice activity since he was diagnosed with a concussion following Sunday's loss to the Vikings, Marshall doesn't appear to have taken a notable step forward in the NFL's five-step protocol for head injuries. Unless he returns to the field in some capacity for Friday's practice, Marshall looks on track to sit out this weekend's game against the Giants.
Oct 20, 2021
Sits out Wednesday
Marshall (concussion) didn't practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
It's no surprise Marshall hasn't cleared the necessary steps in the NFL's protocol for head injuries after taking a big hit from Vikings safety Xavier Woods this past Sunday. Marshall has had a slow start to his NFL career despite seeing at least 50 percent of the Panthers' offensive snaps in five of six games, hauling in 14 of 22 targets for 116 yards and no TDs. With Marshall and fellow wide receiver Alex Erickson diagnosed with concussions, the Panthers are left with Shi Smith at the position on the active roster behind starters DJ Moore and Robby Anderson.
Oct 17, 2021
In concussion protocol
Marshall sustained a concussion during Sunday's game against the Vikings, Darin Gantt of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was the recipient of a brutal hit from safety Xavier Woods in the second quarter, drawing an unnecessary roughness penalty in the process. The rookie second-round pick remained on the turf for minutes before making his way to the sideline, and he'll officially finish Week 6 with one catch (on two targets) for nine yards. Alex Erickson and Shi Smith will be the candidates to get work as the Panthers' third receiver behind DJ Moore and Robby Anderson as long as Marshall is in the concussion protocol.
Oct 4, 2021
Only one catch
Marshall caught one of three targets for two yards in Sunday's 36-28 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Marshall played over 70 percent of Carolina's offensive snaps, yet hardly got involved in the passing game. The rookie second-rounder is still awaiting his first touchdown and hasn't topped 50 yards yet either, but Marshall's starting role alongside DJ Moore and Robby Anderson at least gives him upside as a complementary option going forward.
Sep 24, 2021
Makes four grabs
Marshall caught four of five targets for 48 yards in Thursday night's 24-9 win over the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Marshall made a good impact on crossing routes, trailing only DJ Moore in all major receiving categories for the Panthers. The rookie second-rounder is yet to have his breakout game, but Marshall was remained steadily involved in Carolina's first three outings. In fact, with 10 catches, he actually sports twice as many grabs as teammate Robby Anderson. In Week 4 versus the Cowboys, Marshall will strive to continue his momentum while finding the end zone for the first time.
Sep 20, 2021
Another three-catch outing
Marshall caught all three of his targets for 17 yards in Sunday's 26-7 win over the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Marshall has hauled in three passes in both of his appearances as a pro, managing only modest yardage from his looks so far. On the bright side, the rookie played just over half of Carolina's offensive snaps Sunday, so he'll hope similar involvement enables him make a breakthrough in this Thursday's matchup against the Texans.
Sep 13, 2021
Makes three grabs in debut
Marshall caught three of six targets for 26 yards in Sunday's 19-14 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Marshall's regular-season debut saw him trail only Christian McCaffrey and DJ Moore in targets, including a couple looks in the red zone. The second-rounder's final stats weren't overly impressive, but after a standout preseason, it's good to see Marshall remain regularly involved now that the games matter. Although fellow wideout Robby Anderson will surely garner more than Sunday's three targets in most games, Marshall's status as Carolina's third wideout gives him decent value going into Week 2's divisional matchup versus the Saints.
Aug 28, 2021
Finds end zone
Marshall recorded three receptions on four targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason game against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Marshall was on the field with the team's top offensive unit, drawing targets while playing alongside DJ Moore and Robby Anderson. While both Moore and Anderson saw the majority of their targets near the line of scrimmage, Marshall was targeted deep on a number of occasions -- one of which he converted into a 24-yard reception. Marshall also found the end zone for the first time as a pro, taking a screen pass to the house from 13 yards away. He's contributed significantly in each of the team's preseason games, which could line him up to make an immediate impact in Week 1 of the regular season against the Jets.
Aug 22, 2021
Another fruitful outing
Marshall gathered in all three targets for 50 yards during Saturday's preseason defeat to the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Marshall made the most of his looks from reserve quarterback Will Grier, including a 34-yard grab down the right sideline to kick off the second quarter. With D.J. Moore not available Saturday due to back tightness, Marshall got some work early, and David Moore, his primary competition for the No. 3 WR role, wasn't targeted while returning one punt for nine yards. A rookie second-round pick, Marshall has been as advertised through two exhibitions, averaging 23 YPC and 17.3 YPT on his six receptions and eight targets to date.
Aug 15, 2021
Strong preseason debut
Marshall had three receptions (five targets) for 88 yards in Sunday's 21-18 preseason loss to the Colts.
ANALYSIS
P.J. Walker connected with Marshall for a huge 60-yard gain in the first half, just falling short of a would-be touchdown. It was an impressive splash for the 2021 second-round pick in his first action as a pro. Marshall is already considered the front runner to begin the regular season as the Panthers' No. 3 wideout behind veterans Robby Anderson and DJ Moore.
Aug 9, 2021
Leading position battle
Marshall is the early favorite to become the Panthers' No. 3 wide receiver, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall sat out most of Carolina's offseason activities to ensure he'd be healthy for training camp, and the rookie second-rounder has proceeded to hit the ground running. Already familiar with coordinator Joe Brady's scheme from their time at LSU, Marshall has also impressed with his hands in practice, where head coach Matt Rhule said, "We're trying to force-feed Terrace and bring him along as fast as we can." Given that admission, it seems likely Marshall will be the Panthers' third-choice wideout behind DJ Moore and Robby Anderson before long, making him a higher priority than veteran signing David Moore.

Starts camp strong
Marshall made some tough catches at Thursday's practice, earning praise from Panthers head coach Matt Rhule afterward, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. "Like any rookie, [Marshall]'s going to have some good days, some bad days," Rhule said. "I thought today looked like a good day."
ANALYSIS
The rookie second-round pick is off to a good start through two days of training camp, perhaps building his case for the No. 3 spot at wide receiver. The Panthers did sign David Moore away from Seattle this offseason, and it should come as any surprise if the veteran gets more work with the first-team offense this summer.
