Tyler Goodson Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Colts vs Chiefs game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Nov 11, 2025
Handles one carry in Week 10
Goodson rushed once for four yards in Sunday's 31-25 win over the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
Goodson played just two of the Colts' 77 offensive snaps Sunday, behind both Jonathan Taylor (70) and Ameer Abdullah (5). With Taylor handling a 91 percent snap share and rushing for 244 yards and three touchdowns, the 25-year-old Goodson was not relied upon in the Colts' offensive plans. This has been the case for most of the 2025 campaign, as the third-year running back has recorded just five carries for 12 yards and two catches for eight yards in the five games he's played so far. Barring an injury to Taylor, Goodson is far off the fantasy radar as Indianapolis heads into its Week 11 bye before a matchup against the Chiefs in Week 12.
Nov 3, 2025
Has one reception in loss
Goodson had one reception for eight yards on two targets in Sunday's loss at Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Goodson played a season-high 10 snaps on offense with the Colts trailing most of the game. However, the Colts didn't turn to a pass-catching running back as they have in the past as Jonathan Taylor stayed in the game and played on 62 of the offense's 79 snaps. Ameer Abdullah played on five snaps and had one carry and one reception. As long as Taylor is healthy, it looks the other running backs will have very minor roles even if the Colts are forced throw the ball.
Oct 27, 2025
Gets two carries in return
Goodson had two carries for two yards in Sunday's 38-14 win over Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Goodson returned after missing three games due to a groin injury. He's clearly ahead of DJ Giddens on the depth chart, who was a healthy inactive. However, Ameer Abdullah may be the No. 2 running back even with Goodson healthy as he played on ten snaps compared to four for Goodson. Both had two carries. However, none of the backups are getting enough work for viable fantasy value as Jonathan Taylor gets almost every touch even in blowouts as Sunday's win was essentially wrapped up before the fourth quarter.
Oct 22, 2025
Practices in full
Goodson (groin) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Goodson didn't suit up for Indianapolis' win over the Chargers in Week 7, his third consecutive absence, but he now appears back to full health. He'll be available to contribute in a reserve capacity behind workhorse running back Jonathan Taylor versus the Titans on Sunday.
Oct 18, 2025
Won't face Chargers
Goodson (groin) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Goodson practiced in limited fashion Friday, but that won't be enough for him to take the field in Week 7. This will mark his third consecutive absence and leave DJ Giddens as the backup to Jonathan Taylor.
Oct 17, 2025
Questionable after limited practice
Goodson (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Goodson managed to practice in limited fashion Friday after being sidelined Wednesday and Thursday. Even if he returns from a two-week absence Sunday, Goodson wouldn't be expected to contribute much as one of the backups to Jonathan Taylor, along with DJ Giddens and possibly practice squad running back Ameer Abdullah.
Oct 16, 2025
Remains non-participant Thursday
Goodson (groin) remained a non-participant in practice Thursday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson seems to be trending toward a third consecutive absence Sunday against the Chargers. Ameer Abdullah handled the only two touches that didn't go to Jonathan Taylor among Colts running backs in their Week 6 win over the Cardinals, and rookie DJ Giddens remains on hand in a depth role.
Oct 15, 2025
Doesn't practice Wednesday
Goodson (groin) did not participate in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Goodson has missed the Colts' last two games due to a groin injury that he picked up in Week 4 against the Rams. He'll need to return to practice in at least a limited capacity in order to have a realistic chance of playing against the Chargers on Sunday. DJ Giddens and practice squad member Ameer Abdullah will continue to handle backup duties out of the backfield behind Jonathan Taylor for as long as Goodson is out of action.
Oct 10, 2025
Remains sidelined by groin injury
Goodson (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Amanda Foster of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson will miss a second consecutive game due to the groin injury he sustained in Week 4 against the Rams. DJ Giddens will continue to work as the primary backup to workhorse running back Jonathan Taylor.
Oct 8, 2025
Misses Wednesday's practice
Goodson (groin) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson sustained a groin injury in the Colts' Week 4 win loss to the Rams and hasn't returned to practice since. The Iowa product has played just 24 snaps (16 on special teams, eight on offense) across two appearances this season, rushing twice for six yards. He likely needs to upgrade to at least limited practice Thursday or Friday to have a chance at suiting up for the Week 6 matchup against the Cardinals.
Oct 3, 2025
Ruled out for Week 5
Goodson (groin) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Raiders, Amanda Foster of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson, who sustained his groin injury during Week 4 action, didn't practice this week and will now target a potential return Oct. 12 against the Cardinals. In his absence this weekend, DJ Giddens will back up Jonathan Taylor, with Ameer Abdullah and Ulysses Bentley representing possible practice squad elevations.
Oct 1, 2025
DNP on Wednesday
Goodson (groin) did not practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Goodson missed the first two games of the season with an elbow injury but injured his groin in Week 4 against the Rams. Goodson has played a total of eight offensive snaps across two appearances, rushing twice for six yards while catching one pass for no gain.
Sep 28, 2025
Won't return vs. LAR
Goodson (groin) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Goodson will not return Sunday, and his practice participation in the coming week will determine whether he will suit up for the Colts' Week 5 clash against the Raiders on Sunday, Oct. 5. Jonathan Taylor and DJ Giddens will be the Colts' two backfield options for the rest of Sunday's game due to Goodson's injury.
Sep 28, 2025
Exits game due to groin injury
Goodson is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Rams due to a groin injury, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson will continue to be evaluated by medical staff to determine whether he can return to Sunday's contest. DJ Giddens will be the lone backup running back behind Jonathan Taylor if Goodson is not cleared to return.
Sep 22, 2025
Two carries in season debut
Goodson had two carries for six yards in Sunday's win at Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Goodson made his regular season debut after missing the first two games due to an elbow injury. He played four snaps on offense compared to eight snaps for DJ Giddens, but got one more carry. It's not clear who is Taylor's primary backup as Goodson could be used in more passing situations, but neither backup is getting much usage as Taylor again got almost all the opportunities (17 carries and four targets) and played on 77% of the offense's snaps.
Sep 21, 2025
Set to make regular season debut
Goodson is active for Sunday's game at Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Goodson missed each of the Colts' first two games of the season with an elbow injury. It's not clear how much he'll play against the Titans as Jonathan Taylor got every carry (25) among Colts running backs last week and played 93% of snaps on offense. Still, Goodson could be worked in on a few passing downs when Taylor needs a rest.
Sep 17, 2025
Gets in full practice
Goodson (elbow) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Goodson has missed each of the Colts' first two games of the season but appears to be closing in on a return. It remains to be seen if Goodson will cut into Jonathan Taylor's playing time on passing downs.
Sep 14, 2025
Remains inactive Sunday
Goodson (elbow) is inactive for Sunday's Week 2 game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
The reserve running back will sit out for the second time in as many games to open the season due to his elbow issue, despite managing to work back to a full practice Friday. In Goodson's ongoing absence, rookie fifth-round pick DJ Giddens, who recorded 12 carries for 41 yards in the Week 1 win over the Dolphins, will once again operate as the No. 2 back behind Jonathan Taylor. Meanwhile, Goodson will turn his attention to garnering active status for the first time this season in next Sunday's road matchup against the Titans.
Sep 12, 2025
Questionable after full practice
Goodson (elbow) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Broncos after logging a full practice Friday.
ANALYSIS
Friday's full participation level suggests Goodson's trending in the right direction, but it remains to be seen if he'll be cleared to make his season debut Sunday. Once healthy enough to play, Goodson will compete with rookie fifth-round pick DJ Giddens for change-of-pace work behind Jonathan Taylor.
Sep 11, 2025
Limited again Thursday
Goodson (elbow) was limited in practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Goodson has been limited in practice since the start of the regular season, though he couldn't be cleared to suit up Week 1. Once ready to play, Goodson will join DJ Giddens as a depth backfield option behind starter Jonathan Taylor. His next chance to suit up will be Sunday versus the Broncos.
Sep 10, 2025
Limited Wednesday
Goodson (elbow) was limited in practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Goodson was also limited in practice prior to being officially inactive Week 1, so he may need to upgrade to full participation Thursday or Friday in order to gain clearance for Sunday's home game against the Broncos. Once healthy, Goodson will compete with DJ Giddens for reserve touches behind workhorse starter Jonathan Taylor.
Sep 7, 2025
Inactive for Week 1
Goodson (elbow) is inactive for Sunday's season opener against the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
After being limited at practice this week, Goodson approached the contest listed as questionable. With his regular-season debut on hold, DJ Giddens and Ulysses Bentley are available Sunday to handle backfield snaps that don't go to Jonathan Taylor. Goodson's next chance to see action will occur next weekend against the Broncos.
Sep 5, 2025
Questionable for Week 1
Goodson (elbow) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, Amanda Foster of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson has been practicing on a limited basis. If he ultimately can't play Sunday, the Colts could elevate Khalil Herbert or Ulysses Bentley from the practice squad to join starter Jonathan Taylor and rookie fifth-round pick DJ Giddens in the backfield.
Sep 3, 2025
Logs limited practice
Goodson (elbow) was listed as a limited practice participant Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
As Week 1 approaches, Goodson is the only player listed on the Colts' initial injury report ahead of Sunday's game against the Dolphins. While his status for the contest shouldn't impact fantasy lineups this weekend, given that top back Jonathan Taylor is healthy, the question of whether Indy would turn to Goodson or DJ Giddens in the event of an injury to Taylor remains unsettled for now.
Aug 25, 2025
Could practice next week
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Monday that Goodson (elbow) could be among players who retake the practice field next week, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson previously said the elbow injury he picked up during Indianapolis' preseason game against Green Bay on Aug. 16 isn't serious, and that he could be available early in the regular season. If he's indeed able to return to practice next week, Goodson could have a shot at being cleared in time for Week 1 against the Dolphins. He's competing with DJ Giddens and Khalil Herbert (undisclosed) for a depth gig behind Jonathan Taylor.
Aug 21, 2025
Sidelined Thursday
Goodson (elbow) didn't practice Thursday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The elbow injury that Goodson suffered during Saturday's preseason game against the Packers isn't viewed as major, per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star, but the running back's absence from practice Thursday suggests that he'll miss Saturday's preseason finale against the Bengals. When available, Goodson is competing with DJ Giddens and Khalil Herbert (undisclosed) for slotting behind top back Jonathan Taylor.
Aug 19, 2025
Avoids major injury
Goodson (elbow) doesn't have a major injury, Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson was third back through the rotation in Saturday's preseason game against Green Bay -- after Jonathan Taylor and DJ Giddens -- but then left early with an elbow injury. It apparently isn't serious, giving Goodson a shot to be ready for Week 1 and keep a spot on the roster. Khalil Herbert (undisclosed) has also been out recently, leaving the Colts with nothing but undrafted rookies in the backfield behind Taylor and Giddens. They'll likely give Taylor the vast majority of snaps come Week 1, with either Giddens or Goodson subbing in occasionally.
Aug 16, 2025
Exits game with elbow injury
Goodson was forced out of Saturday's preseason game against the Packers with an elbow injury, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit from the contest, Goodson -- who was sporting a brace on his arm as he went to the locker room, per Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star -- carried twice for 10 yards with a TD. If he's forced to miss time beyond Saturday, added opportunities behind starter Jonathan Taylor would be available for rookie DJ Giddens as well as Khalil Herbert (undisclosed).
Aug 7, 2025
Makes preseason start
Goodson started Thursday's preseason opener at Baltimore and took four carries for 11 yards.
ANALYSIS
Goodson got the start, but rookie fifth-round pick DJ Giddens played more snaps in the first half, finishing with six carries for 17 yards (and one incomplete target). Khalil Herbert then took over in the third quarter and scored a TD, but only after entering halftime without a touch. The trio will continue competing for backup roles behind Jonathan Taylor, who was held out Thursday night along with most of the other starters.
Aug 4, 2025
Listed as No. 2 RB
Goodson is listed as the No. 2 running back on the Colts' first unofficial depth chart of the preseason.
ANALYSIS
Goodson is listed ahead of both D.J. Giddens and Khalil Herbert. He could be given deference as a returning veteran or may be listed as the second back because he could have a role on passing downs if Jonathan Taylor is healthy. However, Giddens is seen having a stronger camp so far and would likely get the most work if Taylor were to get hurt.
Jan 7, 2025
Signs one-year extension with Colts
Indianapolis signed Goodson to a one-year contract extension Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
In 16 appearances with the Colts in 2024, Goodson handled 32 carries for 153 yards and a touchdown and hauled in 11 of 15 targets for 61 yards and a touchdown. His role with them in 2025 could depend on whether Trey Sermon opts to leave in free agency during the offseason.
Dec 24, 2024
Four carries in win
Goodson had four carries for 22 yards in Sunday's win over Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Goodson had his most carries since Week 7 as he got some work with the Colts having a large lead. Jonathan Taylor had 218 yards rushing and the Colts had 335 yards rushing, so neither Goodson or Trey Sermon are likely to get many carries next week unless a similar blowout scenario happens. Goodson had minimal work the previous eight weeks (three total touches) as Taylor has received almost every touch in the backfield.
Dec 18, 2024
One carry in Week 15
Goodson rushed once for three yards in Sunday's 31-13 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Goodson's one carry was his first rushing attempt since Week 7. Operating as the Colts' No. 3 running back behind Jonathan Taylor and Trey Sermon, the 24-year-old played just five of 76 offensive snaps Sunday. Goodson has recorded just 28 carries for 131 yards and a touchdown this season, adding 10 catches for 56 yards and score in 13 games. Heading into a Week 16 matchup against the Titans, the Iowa product remains far off the fantasy radar.
Dec 2, 2024
Still lacking opportunities
Goodson wasn't involved in the Colts' offense during their 25-24 win over the Patriots on Sunday, but he did have 24 and 25-yard kick returns.
ANALYSIS
Goodson remains No. 3 on the team's running back depth chart, which in a backfield dominated by Jonathan Taylor doesn't leave much. The Iowa product hasn't had a carry since Week 7 or a target since Week 10. Although he should continue to see work in the return game, an injury to Taylor is likely his only path to touches on offense.
Nov 25, 2024
Not involved on offense Sunday
Goodson returned a kickoff for 25 yards while playing all 14 of his snaps on special teams in Sunday's 24-6 loss to the Lions.
ANALYSIS
In a game in which Indianapolis logged just 49 offensive snaps, the Colts didn't need to turn to Goodson to spell Jonathan Taylor or Trey Sermon, who remain ahead of him on the depth chart at running back. Barring either Taylor or Sermon missing time to injury, Goodson -- who has logged no carries and four targets over the Colts' last five contests -- doesn't look as though he'll have a role on offense in the final six weeks of the season.
Nov 18, 2024
Plays just two snaps in win
Goodson did not have a carry or reception in Sunday's win at the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Goodson just two snaps on offense as Jonathan Taylor played on 63 of the offense's 70 snaps. Trey Sermon (five snaps) did play more snaps than Goodson but it may be Goodson that has more of a role as a pass catcher if the Colts fall far behind. Either way, neither Sermon or Goodson currently has much of a role if Taylor is fully healthy.
Nov 11, 2024
Has TD catch in loss
Goodson had two receptions for nine yards on two targets, including a two-yard touchdown, in Sunday's loss to Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
Goodson played nine snaps on offense as he was used in passing situations. However, it was notable that Jonathan Taylor stayed on the field late in the game despite the Colts falling far behind, so it's not certain that Goodson will get more playing time in clear passing situations.
Nov 6, 2024
No touches in Week 9
Goodson failed to record a single carry or target in Sunday's 21-13 loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Goodson played just one offensive snap in the contest, matching a season low in the eight games he's played this season. With teammate Jonathan Taylor back to full health, Goodson has reverted to his No. 3 running back role, with teammate Trey Sermon slotting in as the top backup. The 23-year-old should not be considered for fantasy purposes as the Colts host the Bills in Week 10.
Oct 28, 2024
Has drop on only target
Goodson had a drop on his only target in Sunday's loss at Houston.
ANALYSIS
Goodson played just two snaps on offense, as he and Trey Sermon will have limited backup roles with the return of Jonathan Taylor from an ankle injury. Goodson appeared to move ahead of Sermon in the backfield mix last week with Taylor out, but Sermon played 10 snaps Sunday with Taylor playing 52 snaps. Goodson's pass drop won't help him work his way into the backfield mix as the receiving back, either.
Oct 20, 2024
Scores first career TD
Goodson carried the ball 14 times for 51 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 16-10 win over the Dolphins.
ANALYSIS
While Trey Sermon got the start in place of Jonathan Taylor (ankle), it was Goodson who had the more productive day out of the backfield, capping his performance with a seven-yard run in the third quarter that resulted in his first career NFL touchdown. Taylor could return in Week 8 for a tilt against the Texans, but if he's not ready to go, coach Shane Steichen might decide to ride the hot hand between Goodson and Sermon again, making both backs volatile fantasy options.
Oct 13, 2024
Efficient in Week 6 win
Goodson rushed eight times for 51 yards and brought in four of five targets for 14 yards in the Colts' 20-17 win over the Titans on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Goodson finished with a team-high amount of rushing yards thanks in large part to a game-long 33-yard run. The second-year back was also encouragingly involved as a pass catcher, with his four receptions serving as a career high. If Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is forced to sit out a third consecutive game in next Sunday's home matchup against the Dolphins, Goodson may have earned himself a much closer time share with interim lead back Trey Sermon.
Oct 6, 2024
Tallies 86 all-purpose yards
Goodson rushed five times for 26 yards and brought in all three targets for 31 yards in the Colts' 37-34 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday. He also returned one kickoff for 29 yards.
ANALYSIS
Goodson saw extended action as part of the domino effect of Jonathan Taylor's (ankle) absence, with the former checking in as the change-of-pace option to lead back Trey Sermon. Goodson was efficient with his limited opportunities after checking into the game with only one touch from scrimmage this season, but he'd likely slide back into fantasy irrelevance if Taylor is able to return for a Week 6 road matchup against the Titans.
Sep 23, 2024
Minimal role on offense again
Goodson did not have a carry or target in Sunday's win over Chicago. He played just two snaps on offense.
ANALYSIS
Goodson is a clear third running back behind Jonathan Taylor and Trey Sermon. Goodson could get more playing time in passing situations when the Colts are trailing, but is unlikely to get significant playing time unless one of the top two running backs are hurt.
Sep 16, 2024
Minimal role on offense
Goodson had one reception for two yards on his lone target in Sunday's loss at Green Bay.
ANALYSIS
Goodson played on just nine of the offense's 56 snaps but got most of his usage late in the fourth quarter when the Colts were playing from behind. Jonathan Taylor was surprisingly on the bench late in the game after some drops earlier in the game, so Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson could see more of a role in the passing game. Goodson didn't play on offense in Week 1.
Sep 9, 2024
Not in the gameplan
Goodson didn't see any snaps on offense in Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Goodson won the team's No. 3 running back role, but that didn't allow him to see any snaps on offense in Week 1. Jonathan Taylor dominated the team's backfield reps, playing 95 percent of the team's snaps on offense, with Trey Sermon picking up the other 5 percent. The Iowa product will likely not see many opportunities moving forward unless there is an injury to Taylor or Sermon, or if he can impress enough in practice to earn a larger role.
Aug 27, 2024
Wins No. 3 RB role
Goodson won the No. 3 running back role with the Colts waiving Evan Hull, the Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson could begin the season as the backup to Jonathan Taylor if Trey Sermon misses time with a hamstring injury. Goodson could also emerge as the third-down/receiving back in the backfield mix.
Aug 22, 2024
Second RB in after Taylor
Goodson rushed 13 times for 57 yards and caught two of three targets for 10 yards in Thursday's 27-14 preseason win over the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Jonathan Taylor started the game, but Goodson was the second running back to mix into the game alongside the rest of the first-team offense, though Evan Hull (nine carries for 30 yards) also got some opportunities with the starters. Goodson continued to play with the backups, as the Colts wanted to get a long look at both him and Hull. Trey Sermon hurt his hamstring in the preseason opener, and if Sermon still isn't ready to play by the Sept. 8 regular-season opener against the Texans, Goodson and Hull would likely split change-of-pace duties behind Taylor.
Aug 18, 2024
Maintains edge in position battle
Goodson took six carries for 35 yards and touchdown (no targets) in Saturday's 21-13 preseason win over Arizona.
ANALYSIS
Goodson was the first back used sans Jonathan Taylor (coach's decision) for the second game in a row this preseason. The 23-year-old responded with touchdowns in both exhibition contests. Fellow backup Evan Hull continues to play well behind Goodson on the depth chart, while projected No. 2 back Trey Sermon (hamstring) remains without a timeline to return. If Goodson holds pole position following next week's preseason finale, then he may find himself serving as Taylor's primary backup come Week 1. The 5-foot-9 speedster out of Iowa would actually complement the starter's bruising north-south style of running better than Sermon, who better matches Taylor's physical build without the superstar's ball skills.
Aug 11, 2024
Scores TD in preseason opener
Goodson had seven carries for 15 yards, including a one-yard touchdown, and had two receptions for one yard in Sunday's preseason loss to Denver.
ANALYSIS
Goodson and Evan Hull are battling for the No. 3 running back role and had nearly identical stats (Hull had 8 carries for 16 yards and a one-yard touchdown). Goodson may have a slight lead in the competition game since he entered the game before Hull. The winner of the No. 3 role could have fantasy relevance if the Colts utilize a third-down back.
Aug 7, 2024
Begins preseason as No. 3 RB
Goodson is listed as the third running back on Indianapolis' first unofficial depth chart of the preseason.
ANALYSIS
Trey Sermon has had a strong camp and looks set as the top backup to Jonathan Taylor. However, it's not clear how Indy will use its running backs on passing downs. It's possible Goodson or Evan Hull could win a role as the team's receiving back in passing situations.
Jul 25, 2024
Practices Thursday
Goodson (toe) participated in practice Thursday, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
A previous report noted that Goodson was dealing with a toe issue, but the running back was out there Thursday for the Colts' first training camp practice. With Jonathan Taylor entrenched as the team's top option, Goodson is in line to compete with Trey Sermon and Evan Hull for depth slotting in Indy's backfield ahead of Week 1.
Jul 24, 2024
Could hit PUP list
Goodson (toe) could be placed on Indianapolis' active/PUP list soon, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson was getting some first-team reps with Jonathan Taylor missing practice earlier this offseason, but it now appears that he's dealing with a toe issue that could sideline him for the beginning of training camp. The Iowa product will likely be battling with Trey Sermon and Evan Hull for a depth role in Indianapolis' backfield once he returns to full health.
May 31, 2024
Getting some first-team reps
Goodson, Trey Sermon and Evan Hull got first-team reps at Thursday's practice, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan reports.
ANALYSIS
Jonathan Taylor missed practice for personal reasons, leaving the Colts with an inexperienced group of running backs. Multiple reports have suggested Sermon and Hull will compete for the second spot on the depth chart, but Goodson's work with the starting offense suggests he's also in the running to earn a bench role. While he weighs less than 200 pounds and has taken just 19 regular-season touches since going undrafted in 2022, it wouldn't be shocking if Goodson challenged Hull for a role as the two-minute/hurry-up back. Goodson ran a 4.42 at the 2022 Combine, after piling up 2,551 rushing yards and 70 receptions in three seasons at Iowa.
Jan 8, 2024
Disappointing end to season
Goodson did not handle a carry in Saturday's 23-19 loss versus the Texans, and he failed to bring in either of his two targets.
ANALYSIS
The last meaningful play of a must-win game for Indianapolis was a dropped pass by Goodson that would have extended a potential game-winning drive with just over a minute to play. It's a difficult pill to swallow for Goodson, who had an otherwise promising season in 2023 relative to his rookie year in 2022. He has enough speed to get a second look during the offseason.
Jan 1, 2024
Just one carry in win
Goodson had one carry for three yards in Sunday's win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
Goodson payed just three snaps on offense as the Colts had a large lead most of the game and didn't need a pass catcher to relieve Jonathan Taylor. Instead, Trey Sermon played 18 snaps and had five carries for 32 yards mostly late in the game when Taylor was briefly sidelined.
Dec 26, 2023
Has 30 total yards in loss
Goodson had one carry for 15 yards and on reception for 15 yards on two targets in Sunday's loss to Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Both Goodson and Trey Sermon played 14 snaps on offense in a reserve role behind Jonathan Taylor. Goodson had more opportunities than Sermon, who had just one carry, but both are clearly behind Taylor with Zack Moss sidelined with a shoulder injury.
Dec 19, 2023
Signed off practice squad
The Colts signed Goodson off their practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Having used the maximum three standard elevations on Goodson ahead of the last three contests, Indianapolis needed to add him to the active roster in order for him to be available for game days moving forward. With the statuses of Jonathan Taylor (thumb) and Zack Moss (shoulder) up in the air as the team prepares for Sunday's visit to Atlanta, Goodson now is a healthy option out of backfield along with Trey Sermon. After Moss went down in the second quarter of this past Saturday's win against the Steelers, Goodson split work with Sermon (17 carries, 88 yards) to the tune of 13 touches for 79 yards from scrimmage.
Dec 18, 2023
Moves back to practice squad
Goodson reverted to the Colts' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Goodson has been elevated for each of Indianapolis' last three games, but he was able to mix into the offense more than expected Saturday against the Steelers after Zack Moss departed early due to a shoulder injury. With Jonathan Taylor (thumb) sitting out again, Goodson and Trey Sermon manned the backfield from the middle of the second quarter onward. Goodson played second fiddle to Sermon, seeing 19 snaps to the latter's 29, but both RBs got double-digit touches, with Goodson going for 79 yards from scrimmage on 13 touches and Sermon turning 17 carries into 88 yards. There's a chance Taylor will be able to return Sunday in Atlanta, and Moss also hopes to be available for that contest, so Goodson's prospects for Week 16 output likely are contingent on him being signed to the active roster.
Dec 16, 2023
Gets 13 touches Saturday
Goodson totaled 11 carries for 69 yards and two catches (on two targets) for 10 yards during Saturday's 30-13 victory against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Goodson joined the Colts' practice squad after Week 1, and he remained there until Week 12, when the team elevated him. He's proceeded to see action in three straight games via the same transaction with Jonathan Taylor (thumb) out the last two contests, and Goodson worked in tandem with Trey Sermon out of Indy's backfield Saturday after Zack Moss (arm) exited early in the second quarter. Taylor may be able to return next Sunday, Dec. 24 in Atlanta, but with the statuses of both him and Moss now up in the air, Goodson could be a regular in the offense in the short term. However, because he's exhausted his three allotted elevations, the Colts will need to sign Goodson to the active roster in order for him to do so.

Will be available versus Steelers
Indianapolis elevated Goodson from its practice squad to the active roster for Saturday's game versus the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Goodson looks poised to suit up for the third consecutive game in Week 15 with Jonathan Taylor (thumb) still out. Over the past two games, he's turned three targets into three receptions for nine yards.
Dec 11, 2023
Heads back to practice squad
The Colts reverted Goodson to the practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Goodson was elevated for the second straight week with Jonathan Taylor (thumb) out again. Goodson played six snaps on offense and brought in his lone target for minus-two yards. Goodson is eligible to be elevated from the practice squad one more time this season.
Dec 9, 2023
Joins active roster
The Colts elevated Goodson to their active roster Saturday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson has spent the majority of this season on the Colts' practice squad, and he's been elevated to the team's active roster for the second consecutive week. This move ensures depth at running back, with Jonathan Taylor (thumb) in line to miss his second consecutive game in Week 14. Goodson will likely serve as Indianapolis' No. 3 RB on Sunday behind Zack Moss and Trey Sermon.
Dec 4, 2023
Back to practice squad
Goodson reverted to the Colts' practice squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Goodson was elevated ahead of Sunday's overtime win versus the Titans as Jonathan Taylor (thumb) was inactive. The 23-year-old played three offensive snaps and hauled in both of his targets for 11 yards. Goodson could have a chance to play again next week versus the Bengals if Taylor ends up being out once again.
Dec 4, 2023
Two receptions in backup role
Goodson had two receptions for 11 yards on two targets in Sunday's win at Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
Goodson played just three snaps on offense as the third running back behind starter Zack Moss with Jonathan Taylor out with a thumb injury. However, Trey Sermon played on just one snap and had a drop in the passing game, which could open more opportunities for Goodson while Taylor is sidelined.
Dec 2, 2023
Elevated to active roster
The Colts elevated Goodson to their active roster Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Goodson is set to make his season debut on the Colts' active roster. With Jonathan Taylor (thumb) sidelined, he will provide depth in the backfield behind Zack Moss and Trey Sermon. The Iowa product also figures to be a candidate for special teams snaps.

Earns practice squad spot
Goodson signed with the Colts' practice squad Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Goodson showed enough during his tryout Monday to secure a spot on Indianapolis' practice squad. The 22-year-old back out of Iowa spent the majority last season on Green Bay's practice squad after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent. The Colts cut ties with running back Jason Huntley to make room for Goodson.

Gets tryout with Colts
Indianapolis hosted Goodson (shoulder) for a tryout Monday, Howard Balzer of PHNX reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson is a free agent after having received an injury settlement with the Packers, and he's already healthy to work out and search for a new role. He's still looking for a chance to play his first NFL snap.
Sep 6, 2023
Waived by Green Bay
The Packers waived Goodson (shoulder) from injured reserve with a settlement Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson reverted to injured reserve after clearing waivers but will now be free to sign elsewhere once healthy. The 2022 undrafted free agent spent last season on Green Bay's practice squad and appeared in one game but did not play a single snap.
Aug 31, 2023
Back on IR
Goodson (shoulder) reverted to Green Bay's injured reserve Wednesday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Goodson will spend the entire 2023 season on IR, unless he and the Packers can reach an injury settlement. The second-year pro, who is still looking for a chance to make his NFL debut, is dealing with a right shoulder injury.
Aug 29, 2023
Waived/injured Tuesday
Goodson (shoulder) was waived with an injury designation by the Packers on Tuesday, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
If Goodson does not get claimed off waivers he will revert to the Packers' injured reserve and face the possibility of missing the entire season. The seriousness of his shoulder injury is unknown, but if he has the potential to return both he and the Packers could eventually reach and injury settlement. He was hoping to win the No. 3 running back role prior to the injury, but that was now awarded to Emanuel Wilson.

Sports sling at practice Sunday
Goodson was spotted in a sling during Sunday's practice, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson left Friday's preseason opener with a shoulder injury, and it appears he'll miss some time. With Lew Nichols (shoulder) also sidelined, Patrick Taylor has a clear path at winning the No. 3 spot behind Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, though the Packers kept only two running backs on their Week 1 roster last year.
Aug 11, 2023
Injures shoulder
Goodson exited Friday's game against the Bengals due to a shoulder injury.
ANALYSIS
There is no word on whether Goodson is available to return, but expect the Packers to exercise caution. He had tallied two yards and one touchdown on three carries prior to sustaining the injury. With Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon presumably done for the game, and Lew Nichols not active, that leaves three running backs available for Green Bay for the remainder of the preseason contest.
Jan 11, 2023
Sticking with Green Bay
Goodson signed a reserve/future contract with the Packers on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Goodson joined the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa this past offseason. Wound up competing for the team's No. 3 running spot during the preseason, but he was eventually waived in late August before quickly re-joining via the practice squad. Goodson was bumped up to the active roster for the Week 17 win over Minnesota, though he never saw the field against the Vikings. The 22-year-old is now set to compete with Patrick Taylor for a depth role this offseason.

Returns to practice squad
Goodson reverted to Green Bay's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Goodson was promoted to the active roster for the first time ahead of Sunday's win against the Vikings. However, the undrafted rookie never wound up seeing the field Week 17, as Patrick Taylor served as the Packers' No. 3 running back and Keisean Nixon handled return duties on special teams. Goodson will now look to make his NFL debut if he is once again elevated from the practice squad for the team's crucial Week 18 matchup against Detroit.
Dec 31, 2022
Up to active roster
Goodson was elevated from the practice squad Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Aaron Jones (knee/ankle) was able to shed his injury status Friday, so it's entirely possible Goodson's elevation simply is a safety net for the status of return man Keisean Nixon (groin). The undrafted rookie could make his first NFL appearance Sunday against the Vikings.
Aug 31, 2022
Returns to Green Bay
The Packers signed Goodson to their practice squad Wednesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Kylin Hill (knee) sidelined, Goodson and Patrick Taylor dueled during the preseason for the No. 3 spot behind Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. Goodson did his best to earn the gig, totaling 29 rushes for 107 yards and one score across three exhibition contests. However, neither Goodson nor Taylor ultimately made the initial 53-man roster as the Packers opted to only keep two running backs, with the understanding that Amari Rodgers or Randall Cobb could handle emergency RB duties if Jones or Dillon went down with an injury. Regardless, Goodson and Taylor will both be candidates to be elevated on a weekly basis now that they are members of the practice squad.
Aug 30, 2022
Let go by Green Bay
The Packers waived Goodson on Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson signed with the Packers in May as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa, where he rushed for 2,551 yards and 18 touchdowns across three seasons. He also caught eight passes for 60 yards. However, the Iowa product still couldn't earn a spot on the Packers' initial 53-man roster. Nonetheless, per Rapoport, Green Bay wants him back on a practice squad deal, but it's unclear if he'll clear waivers after his promising preseason performances.

Finds paydirt in finale
Goodson had seven carries for 28 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason finale against the Chiefs. He also caught five passes for 26 yards and returned two kicks for 27 yards.
ANALYSIS
Goodson was held in check on most of his 12 touches in the Packers' final exhibition contest, but he did score on an impressive 24-yard run early in the second quarter. With 167 yards from scrimmage over the last three weeks, the undrafted rookie has done just about all he could have done to earn a roster spot. The Packers could still elect to keep Patrick Taylor as the third running back, but Goodson was the more impressive of the two during the preseason.
Aug 20, 2022
Continues push for roster spot
Goodson had 10 carries for 42 yards and one reception for 10 yards in Friday's exhibition contest against the Saints.
ANALYSIS
After starting the preseason opener Goodson worked behind Patrick Taylor on Friday, but the former wound up with more touches and yards from scrimmage and also showed a bit more burst. Unless fellow running back Kylin Hill (knee) returns to action in the next week or so, either Goodson or Taylor will open the season as the third option in the Packers' backfield, and it's a tight race with one audition to go.
Aug 13, 2022
Tallies 14 touches in debut
Goodson had 12 carries for 37 yards and two receptions for 24 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the 49ers. He also returned a kick for 19 yards.
ANALYSIS
Goodson did not run for more than seven yards on any of his 12 attempts, but he ripped off 23 yards on a screen pass in the first quarter and finished the night with a team-high 14 touches. With fellow running back Kylin Hill (knee) still on the PUP list, the third running back spot on the Packers' depth chart is up for grabs, and Goodson has done enough to challenge Patrick Taylor for that spot.
May 2, 2022
Set to join Green Bay
Goodson is expected sign with the Packers an undrafted free agent, Zach Kruse of the Packers Wire reports.
ANALYSIS
Goodson rushed for 2,551 yards and 18 touchdowns and caught 70 passes in 34 games over three seasons at Iowa. He'll get an opportunity to compete with Kylin Hill and Patrick Taylor for a backup job behind the dynamic duo of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon.
