It was a busy afternoon for Cunningham and the Texans' defense which was on the field for nearly 35 minutes. The Ravens tormented the Texans on the ground, rolling up 230 yards rushing, including 151 in the fourth quarter. Cunningham leads Houston with 22 tackles through two weeks.

Cunningham recorded a team-high eight tackles in Thursday's 34-20 loss to the Chiefs in Week 1.

Cunningham, who led the Texans in tackles in 2019, picked up where he left off in the 2020 season opener. The downside to his evening was being assessed two penalties (20 yards) on a drive at end of the first half. Those infractions led to a Kansas City field goal and extended the Chiefs' lead to 17-7 heading into the break.

He played 87.5 percent of Houston's defensive snaps last year, piling up 142 tackles (99 solo), two sacks, two fumble recoveries and two pass defenses en route to earning PFF's No. 21 grade out of 90 off-ball linebackers. Cunningham and Bernardrick McKinney provide the Texans with an impressive ILB duo in the middle of an otherwise suspect defense.

Cunningham played every game in 2019, and led the Texans with 142 tackles during the regular season, adding another 16 stops in the playoffs. It was the second consecutive season he ruled the defense in that category. Cunningham will return for 2020 before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2021.
