Signs one-year contract
Mandolese inked a one-year, two-way contract with Ottawa on Tuesday, per PuckPedia.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese played in the AHL, ECHL and NHL during the 2022-23 season. He posted a mark of 1-2-0 with a 3.29 GAA and a .916 save percentage in three outings for Ottawa last year. Mandolese spent the majority of his time with AHL Belleville, going 6-8-3 with a 3.33 GAA and an .890 save percentage over 17 appearances. The 22-year-old netminder is likely to begin the 2023-24 campaign in the minors.
Mar 22, 2023
Headed back to minors
Mandolese was sent down to AHL Belleville on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese was brought up to serve as the backup behind Mads Sogaard against the Bruins on Tuesday after youngster Dylan Ferguson came down with an illness. In his three NHL appearances this year, the 22-year-old Mandolese is sporting a 1-2-0 record, 3.30 GAA and .916 save percentage. At this point, it seems unlikely Madnolese will see any more starts this season unless somebody else suffers an injury.
Mar 21, 2023
Summoned by parent club
Mandolese was promoted from AHL Belleville on Tuesday, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.
ANALYSIS
Dylan Ferguson is sidelined with a non-COVID illness, so Mandolese will join the big club and back up Mads Sogaard versus the Bruins on Tuesday. Mandolese will likely head back to the minors as soon as Ferguson is ready to return.
Mar 19, 2023
Heads to AHL
Mandolese was assigned to AHL Belleville on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
In a corresponding move, netminder Dylan Ferguson was recalled from the minors. Mandolese has posted a 1-2-0 record at the NHL level this season.
Mar 12, 2023
Gives up five goals in loss
Mandolese allowed five goals on 39 shots in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Senators.
ANALYSIS
The Flames broke out of the scoring slump, doing damage on special teams in the first period before their 5-on-5 play caught up over the final 40 minutes. Mandolese had allowed just five goals across his first two NHL appearances, but he wasn't as lucky Sunday. The 22-year-old will likely continue to get the occasional start until Cam Talbot (lower body) can return, but it's likely to be Mads Sogaard in goal a majority of the time.
Mar 12, 2023
Tending twine Sunday
Mandolese will get the starting nod in Calgary on Sunday, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese has allowed just five goals on 80 shots in two career NHL games, including a 46-save win against the Islanders on Feb. 14. The 22-year-old should stay with the Senators for the next few weeks while Cam Talbot (lower body) is out. Mandolese has posted a 3.32 GAA and an .889 save percentage with AHL Belleville.
Mar 6, 2023
Back with big club
Mandolese was promoted from AHL Belleville on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old will serve as Mads Sogaard's backup while Cam Talbot (lower body) is on the shelf. Mandolese has stopped 75 of 80 shots in his two NHL appearances this season.
Feb 20, 2023
Reassigned to AHL
Mandolese stopped 29 of 32 shots in Monday's loss to Boston. He was then sent down to AHL Belleville.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese turned in another solid performance Monday, yielding just one goal in each period against the lethal Bruins. He's now given up just five goals on 80 shots in his first two NHL games. If Cam Talbot (lower body) isn't ready for Friday's game in Carolina, Mandolese should be promoted again.
Feb 20, 2023
In goal Monday
Mandolese will get the starting nod on the road versus Boston on Monday, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese was solid in his season debut against the Islanders on Feb 14, stopping 46 of 48 shots faced in a winning effort. Despite that strong performance, Mads Sogaard continues to see the bulk of the workload while Cam Talbot (lower body) and Anton Forsberg (knee) are both unavailable. Still, if Mandolese can put together another strong performance versus the Bruins, he could be in line to steal some starts away from Sogaard.
Feb 14, 2023
Stops 46 in debut
Mandolese stopped 46 of 48 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 shootout victory over the Islanders.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese was superb in his first NHL game, allowing just two goals on 48 shots before blanking the Islanders in the shootout. The 22-year-old netminder could see more opportunities moving forward with Cam Talbot (lower body) and Anton Forsberg (knee) both on the IR. Mandolese certainly played well enough to split starting duties with Mads Sogaard for the time being.
Feb 14, 2023
Making NHL debut
Mandolese will guard the road goal Tuesday versus the Islanders, Ethan Sears of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese will make his first NHL appearance in the second half of a back-to-back, as Mads Sogaard played Monday versus the Flames. Mandolese has struggled with a 3.60 GAA and an .879 save percentage through 13 games with AHL Belleville, so he shouldn't be expected to do much during his time with the big club.
Feb 12, 2023
Up with Senators
Mandolese was called up by Ottawa on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese has a 3.60 GAA and an .879 save percentage in 13 games with AHL Belleville this season. Anton Forsberg left Sunday's game because of a lower-body injury, which is likely why Ottawa decided to promote Mandolese.
Jan 29, 2023
Returns to AHL
Madonlese was assigned to AHL Belleville on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese suited up as Anton Forsberg's backup for the past two games because Cam Talbot (lower body) was unavailable. If Talbot remains out, Mandolese could be back with the big club for Tuesday's road matchup versus Montreal. Ottawa may also decide to bring up a different netminder rather than have Mandolese sit on the bench again.
Jan 26, 2023
Called up from minors
Mandolese was recalled from AHL Belleville on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese has yet to appear in an NHL game but could be in line to make his debut with the Senators heading into a back-to-back versus the Leafs and Canadiens on Friday and Saturday, respectively, though with the upcoming break perhaps the team would use Anton Forsberg in both games. Even if Mandolese does make his debut, his time in the NHL is no doubt linked to the health of Cam Talbot (lower body).
Nov 28, 2022
Moved back to minors
Mandolese was demoted to AHL Belleville on Monday.
ANALYSIS
The decision to reassign Mandolese could be an indication that Anton Forsberg (lower body) is ready to return, though the Senators don't play again until Wednesday. As such, the move could also be a cap-saving measure. Even if Mandolese is brought back up before that clash with the Rangers, he is unlikely to get the starting nod over Cam Talbot.
Nov 25, 2022
Recalled from AHL Belleville
Mandolese has been called up from AHL Belleville on Friday.
ANALYSIS
The 22-year-old netminder is 2-3-1 with a 3.47 GAA and a .868 save percentage in the AHL this season.
Oct 25, 2022
Headed back to minors
Mandolese was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese served as the backup behind Magnus Hellberg on Monday while Anton Forsberg (undisclosed) was unavailable. The demotion of Mandolese would seem to indicate that Forsberg will at least be fit enough to dress for Thursday's clash with the Wild, though Mandolese could be brought back up if needed.
Oct 24, 2022
Up with Senators
Mandolese was called up from AHL Belleville on Monday, per CapFriendly
ANALYSIS
According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, Mandolese may occupy the backup role Monday night behind Magnus Hellberg against Dallas due to the uncertain status of Anton Forsberg.
Oct 4, 2022
Drops back to AHL
Mandolese was reassigned to AHL Belleville following Tuesday's game versus the Canadiens

Oct 4, 2022
Called up from minors
Mandolese was recalled from AHL Belleville on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese shouldn't be expected to get into Tuesday's preseason clash with the Canadiens, instead serving as an emergency depth option. Heading into Opening Night versus the Sabres on Oct. 13, Mandolese figures to find himself back in the minors where he should play the bulk of his games this year.
Oct 1, 2022
Heading to AHL
Mandolese was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Unsurprisingly, Mandolese did not win an NHL job in camp. The 22-year-old will likely spend most of 2022-23 at Belleville, where he figures to share the crease with Mads Sogaard.
Apr 25, 2022
Reassigned to minors
Mandolese was demoted to AHL Belleville on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese has yet to appear in a game at the NHL level, instead splitting his time between the AHL and ECHL. With the 21-year-old netminder headed back to the minors, he figures to be a long shot to make his NHL debut this year with just three games remaining on the Senators' schedule.
Apr 24, 2022
Brought up from Belleville
Mandolese was recalled from AHL Belleville on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese will switch spots with Filip Gustavsson, who was sent down to the AHL in a corresponding move. If the 21-year-old Mandolese gets into a game for the Senators down the stretch, it would be his NHL debut.

Mar 14, 2021
Backing up Sunday

ANALYSIS

Mar 1, 2021
On taxi squad
Mandolese was recalled to the taxi squad Monday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese has played in just one game with AHL Belleville this season in which he gave up five goals on 41 shots (.878 save percentage) in a losing effort. Even with the injury to Marcus Hogberg (lower body), Madnolese will be hard-pressed to break into an NHL game this year.
Feb 26, 2021
Sent to AHL
Mandolese was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Friday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese will switch spots with Filip Gustavsson, who was promoted to the taxi squad in a corresponding move to serve as the team's No. 3 goaltender.
Feb 19, 2021
Added to taxi squad
Mandolese was promoted from AHL Belleville to the Senators' taxi squad Friday.
ANALYSIS
Goaltender Joey Daccord was sent to the AHL in a corresponding move, so Mandolese will stick with Ottawa's taxi squad for the foreseeable future. He posted a 5.00 GAA and an .878 save percentage in his lone minor-league appearance this season.
Apr 13, 2020
Inks entry-level deal
Mandolese officially signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Senators on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Mandolese is just 19, so he could play another season of juniors if the Senators deem it in his best interests. He put up excellent stats with QMJHL Cape Breton, leading all netminders with a .925 save percentage, but he was only a sixth-round choice, so Ottawa will be in no rush to get him to the NHL level. Consider him only in the deepest of dynasty leagues, as he will be hard-pressed to get above AHL Belleville anytime soon.
