ACC Teams to Watch
Clemson Tigers (-110)
Clemson is the prohibitive favorite to win the ACC this season and is hoping to rekindle those national championship hopes. The last time the Tigers won the Natty was during the 2018 season, when they rolled to an undefeated season, capping it off by destroying Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide in the championship game.
But that was then, and this is now. Clemson squeaked into the 12-team playoffs and was subsequently ousted in the opening round by No. 5 Texas.
The defending ACC titlists are ready for another deep run under Dabo Swinney. The Tigers are the consensus pick to win the conference primarily because they are returning a bevy of talent, including quarterback Cade Klubnik and his talented triumvirate of receivers, including Antonio Williams, Bryant Wesco Jr., and T.J. Moore.
The cupboards on both sides of the ball are well-stocked, and the team boasts a motherlode of NFL Draft talent. Now this team has experience to draw on, which makes them as tough a team as you’d want to meet in the nation, let alone the conference.
Louisville Cardinals (+750)
The Cardinals may have the most dynamic running back room in the league with Isaac Brown returning after picking up 1,173 yards and 11 rushing trips to the end zone as a freshman. USC transfer quarterback Miller Moss will take over for Tyler Shough, who was plucked in the second round by the New Orleans Saints.
Moss will have two reliable receivers in Chris Bell and Caullin Lacy, both of whom will get the opportunity to showcase their wares in this rejuvenated offense. The offensive line is expected to improve over last year, which means the offense should be a bit more lethal as long as Moss can replace Shough’s production.
The linebacking corps will be the fulcrum of this defense with Stanquan Clark, TJ Quinn, and Coastal Carolina transfer Clev Lubin as the linchpins. The Louisville secondary is a bit of a crapshoot, as portal transfers will prove prescient decisions by the coaches or unfortunate errors.
Nevertheless, based on the odds of +750 at Caesars Sportsbook, the Cards are loaded with value in this preseason spot.
Duke Blue Devils (+3000)
Duke is coming off a 9-4 season in which they were waxed by Ole Miss in the Gator Bowl. And although they didn’t end the season the way they wanted, their defense this season is the envy of the conference. If the age-old axiom, “defense wins championships”, is true, then we have a live long shot here.
The Blue Devils’ secondary, featuring Chandler Rivers and Terry Moore, will give offenses fits this season, and Duke’s defensive line generates enough pressure so that the defensive backfield won’t be on an island.
However, the offense is much more of an enigma. Tulane transfer quarterback Darian Mensah will need time getting acquainted with his transfer receivers. It’s a mish-mash of offensive puzzle pieces that will either fit nicely or take time to assimilate.
If it’s the latter, a conference title is not in the cards. The first few games will be critical in evaluating this offense, and Duke will be meeting Darian Mensah’s old Tulane squad in the third game of the season, which should add some drama to this matchup.
Start a Sportsbook Account
The best thing you can do if you want to make a wager on a game or bet on a future in your college football conference winner predictions is to open a sports betting account. Don’t stand on the sidelines; get into the game!
Although one account will get the job done, accounts at multiple sportsbooks are the sharpest way to make money betting. Recreational gamblers often make the mistake of frequenting only one sportsbook, but that would be like buying a car at the first and only dealership you visit. Competition is fierce in the mobile sports betting industry, so you will see differing point spreads and odds at each one. So why not take the best price or the sharpest line?
As for these ACC conference championship teams listed above, the lines currently available may not be there in the future, so open your accounts and bet them now. Clemson is the safe choice to win the conference crown, but much can happen between now and the end of the season, so open your account at Caesars or BetMGM and lock it in while you still can at this price.
The same advice goes for Louisville (+750) and Duke (+3000), two ACC powers who could surprise when it’s all said and done.
