Last week encompassed many super exciting games involving high-ranking teams.

LSU Tigers vs. Ole Miss Rebels (+8.5)

Purdue’s offense is characterized by its focus on passing. The Boilermakers own the 18th-highest pass play percentage, indicating that the success of their offense will be conditioned by the success of their pass attack.
Their offense owns a solid outlook against an Illinois defense that struggles against opposing quarterbacks. Most recently, USC’s quarterback threw for 364 yards against the Illini. On the season, the Illini rank 114th in limiting the opponent’s passer rating.
However, Purdue also has an awful pass defense, one that ranks 121st at limiting the opponent’s passer rating. Illinois is built to exploit this weakness with quarterback Luke Altmyer, who has thrown eleven touchdowns to zero interceptions thus far.
This is a game in which both quarterbacks will flourish.
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (-24)

The Buckeyes reliably allow low point totals. Thus far, they’ve given up seven points to Texas, zero to Grambling, nine to Ohio, and six to Washington.
Minnesota’s offense lacks an efficient rush attack that can be relied upon against respectable competition. Overall, the Golden Gophers rank 105th in rush offense.
Their quarterback does a good job of avoiding turnovers, which means that he will inhibit Ohio State’s offense from scoring easy points off turnovers. Still, Drake Lindsey lacks the prolific qualities to navigate Ohio State’s solid defense.
Minnesota’s defense will simply have to avoid being throttled. While Ohio State’s young quarterback develops, the Buckeyes will lean on their rush attack.
Colorado Buffaloes vs. TCU Horned Frogs (-14.5)

Last week, TCU surrendered 209 rushing yards on five YPC in its loss to Arizona State. Colorado’s offense can match this productivity with its reliance on running back Micah Welch and his season-long 5.3 YPC.
Welch’s success has persisted against ranked competition, including Georgia Tech and BYU.
Running backs absorb attention from the opposing defense, making life easier for their quarterback. Colorado’s offense as a whole is vastly better with quarterback Kaidon Salter healthy, its normally productive dual-threat, who most recently almost led his team to an upset win over BYU despite an off day against a fantastic high-ranking defense.
The Horned Frogs on offense rely heavily on their quarterback, but Colorado’s pass defense ranks well above average. To have a chance of covering the spread, TCU would need Colorado’s pass defense to be utterly putrid, which is far from being the case.
