The Athletics are playing Darell Hernaiz at third base right now.
The right-hander has hit a .107 ISO and wOBA of .261 with 50% of ground balls and 18.5% of fly balls. Ultimately, he’s got a .226 BABIP over the last month against righties and has hit a 5.6% barrel percentage during that stretch.
He’ll face Logan Gilbert of the Mariners, who has indeed struggled against righties over the last month. Gilbert has earned nearly 13% of swinging strikes against righties and has struck out 26.5% of batters. But when guys make contact, it hasn’t been pretty against Gilbert.
Still, we know what Gilbert is capable of. He’s become one of the best pitchers in baseball and likely won’t allow a weak hitter like Darell Hernaiz to take advantage of him.
I’ll side with the AI Model and take Hernaiz to add below .5 hits tonight. He’s one of the weakest hitters in the Athletics lineup today.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto will get another crack on the mound. He’s already held his last 102 batters to a .077 ISO and wOBA of .261 with 58.5% of ground balls induced and 26.5% of strikeouts.
He’s also allowed a .270 BABIP to his last 102 batters and has given up just 15.4% of line drives during that stretch.
He’ll take on a Padres lineup that has four batters who have hit an ISO of .137 or less over the last month against righties. The lineup doesn’t have a ton of power against righties, which will help Yamamoto limit the damage.

Ben Rice has been one of the hottest hitters on the Yankees over the last month against righties.
He’s hit a .250 ISO and wOBA of .415 with only 14.5% of strikeouts against righties during this time. However, he’s also hit 43.4% of ground balls and just 20.8% of line drives. If this trend continues, it’s hard to imagine his ISO and wOBA numbers will keep rising.
Meanwhile, he’ll face Dustin May of the Red Sox. May has limited his last 48 lefties to 23.3% of line drives. He’s also recorded over 29% of strikeouts gaainst lefties and has allowed only a 6.7% barrel percentage to lefties over the last month.
Don’t count on Ben Rice to continue his surge against righties.
