Is Joe Burrow in for Another Dominant Season?
A quarterback needs talented receivers to maximize production. Burrow had some of the best in the NFL in 2024, with Ja’Marr Chase (1,708 yards, 17 touchdowns) and Tee Higgins (911 yards, 10 touchdowns in 12 games) flanking him at the line of scrimmage.
The franchise went out of its way to bring both players back for the foreseeable future. Chase got a four-year contract extension that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, and Higgins agreed to a four-year deal worth $115 million.
With a familiar, reliable receiving corps at his disposal, Burrow could certainly continue breaking records in 2025.
The over/under on Burrow’s passing yards is set at 4,200.5 at BetMGM. He surpassed that mark in his 15th game last season. Injuries have kept Burrow from meeting the mark in two of his five years in the NFL, but when he plays at least 16 games, he’s hit the over every time.
Top Contenders for NFL Passing Leader
Burrow isn’t the only passer angling for the top prize in 2025. The NFL is a quarterback’s league right now, and plenty of teams are looking to air it out as often as possible. There are three rival quarterbacks that could challenge Burrow as passing yards leader:
Patrick Mahomes
Mahomes and the Chiefs could be out for vengeance in 2025 after losing the Super Bowl last season. The precedent is there for the two-time MVP, too: Mahomes led the league in passing yards 2022 when he threw for 5,250 over 17 games.
Mahomes still has the ever-reliable Travis Kelce at his disposal, but many of his top receiving threats missed time last season. Kansas City also has a solid running game and excellent defense, so Mahomes didn’t need to take over quite as often last year.
The over/under on Mahomes’ passing yards comes in at 4,000.5 at FanDuel. He finished with 3,928 yards in 2024, marking the first time since 2017 that he failed to throw for at least 4,000 yards in a single season.
Dak Prescott
Prescott is no stranger to this category. Even though he’s never led the league in passing yards, he’s put together some monster seasons over the last few years, accumulating over 4,500 yards in 2023 and over 4,900 in 2019.
The Cowboys quarterback has often struggled with injuries (he played just eight games in 2024 and five in 2020), but if he can stay healthy, he’s as good a bet as any. Dallas also landed receiver George Pickens in the offseason, giving Prescott another weapon to work with alongside All-Pro CeeDee Lamb.
The over/under for Prescott’s passing yards is set at 3,850.5 at BetRivers. He’s met this mark in three out of nine years, but dare we say there’s a pattern here? Prescott achieved the feat in 2019, 2021, and 2023. Perhaps 2025 will be another big year.
Josh Allen
Allen is just as dangerous with his legs as he is his arm. As such, his 483 pass attempts in 2024 were the third-lowest of his seven-year career. He couldn’t have played any better, though: Allen was named NFL MVP after finishing inside the top five three times prior.
Buffalo made several moves to improve the defense in the offseason, but the offense remains largely the same. That’s good for Allen’s chemistry with his receiving corps, but there isn’t a superstar to be found downfield.
Allen’s over/under for passing yards in 2025 is set at 3,800.5 at Caesars. He’s met this mark in four of his last five seasons, but he failed to do so in 2024.
