Being part of the FedEx series means that only the top 70 players qualify, and there will be one less with the Masters champion, Rory McIlroy, opting for a week’s rest.
Slick smaller-than-average Bermuda greens set a stern test with tighter-than-average fairways and water hazards on eleven holes to negotiate. Total driving and par-4 scoring, along with Bermuda grass putting, are likely to be three important statistics to look over for this week’s event.
Why Berger Shines at TPC Southwind
Daniel Berger will be glad to be back in Memphis for the St. Jude Championship, having missed the event for the last three years down to injury or an affected FedEx ranking.
It’s been nine years since Berger won his maiden PGA Tour title here in 2016, and amazingly, he won his second a year later when he successfully defended his crown.
A further three starts at TPC Southwind emphasized his affinity for the track with a 2nd in 2020, followed by a 5th in 2021.
Sadly, Berger has not had further opportunities in Memphis because of his light schedules due to back and neck problems that have taken a toll, hence this year will be his first start for four years.
The 32-two-year-old seems to have put his injury problems behind him as he has steadily climbed the world rankings once again and arrives in Tennessee in 28th place on the FedEx Cup standings and #34 on the World Rankings.
A good week here at his favourite event would lock up his Tour Championship place, and there must be a good chance the Florida-born player does just that.

He is also in the middle of a stellar season with a win at the Farmers Insurance Open and two runner-up finishes in major championships, most recently at the Open over in Great Britain.

Like Berger, Harris English will be a solid bet in the same markets on a course where the overwhelming favourite, Scottie Scheffler, has yet to prove himself.
