Teams to Watch
There are some teams that will almost certainly make the playoffs. Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are a lock. The Philadelphia Eagles are a shoo-in after winning the Super Bowl last year.
The opposite is true for a few others. The New Orleans Saints, at +820, are a massive longshot. The same could be said for the New York Giants at +710.
However, there are a few teams with more middling prices that are worth keeping an eye on.
Detroit Lions (-188)
The Lions were one of the best teams in the NFL last season, finishing with an NFC-best 15-2 record. However, they were shockingly knocked out of the playoffs in the Divisional Round by the Washington Commanders, 45-31.
Part of Detroit’s downfall can be attributed to injuries (particularly on defense). Fortunately, the team has had all summer to get healthy, and it should be right back in the running to dominate on both sides of the ball in 2025.
These -188 betting odds are likely set this low on account of the NFC North getting tougher. The Vikings and Packers remain strong contenders to win the division, and the Bears are on the rise. Still, this is a fairly cheap price tag considering no team had a better record than the Lions last season.
Pittsburgh Steelers (+130)
The Steelers are an incredible testament to the concept of persistence. The franchise has not endured a losing season since 2003 and has refused to hit the reset button countless times along the way. Instead of rebuilding, the Steelers have committed to pressing on with the next best option.
This year, that’s Aaron Rodgers. The 41-year-old is entering what will likely be his final NFL season, capping off a surefire Hall of Fame career with the black and gold.
Rodgers is arguably the most capable quarterback the Steelers have had since Ben Roethlisberger retired, and the team has been to the playoffs twice in three years without him. Buoyed by a stellar defense, Rodgers could certainly help guide Pittsburgh back to the postseason.
Dallas Cowboys (+186)
The Cowboys succumbed to various injuries in 2024, finishing the season 7-10 and snapping a three-year playoff streak. Dak Prescott is healthy now, though, and Dallas got him another talented receiver to help make the most of his arm.
With George Pickens in tow alongside CeeDee Lamb, the Cowboys have perhaps the best wide receiver duo in the NFL. Lamb logged over 1,700 receiving yards in 2023, and Pickens, although limited by the Steelers’ quarterback carousel, hauled in more than 1,100 the same year.
The health of this trio is paramount for Dallas, which lacks a strong ground game and ranked 31st in defense last season. Still, this group might not be a bad bet at +186.
