The US Open is the last chance for tennis players to lift a Grand Slam trophy for the 2025 season.
We have had an exciting tennis season with many ups and downs, classic rivalries emerging, upsets, and, don’t forget, the salty handshakes. With that in mind, tennis fans are excited at the culmination of the Grand Slam season when play gets started at the US Open.

US Open 2025 Women’s Singles Overview
So far in 2025, three Grand Slams have been played, and we’ve had three different champions.
Keys’ Australian Open Win
Madison Keys finally broke through and won her first Grand Slam at the Australian Open. As an older player whose play had seemingly diminished, the reemergence of Keys was a delight for many tennis fans. Madison Keys is a wonderful person who has led anti-bullying campaigns and is always a positive presence on tour.
Keys is beloved by her fellow players for her cheerful attitude and good sportsmanship, so it was truly a feel-good story when she won the Australian Open.
However, that tournament surface plays fast, which suits her strength a little more than the slower surface of the US Open. Keys has made the US Open finals before, but that was seven seasons ago. With that being said, it would not be crazy for Keys to rediscover some of her magic and make a deep run here in this tournament, although I do not view her as a true US Open contender.
Gauff’s French Open Victory and Path at the US Open
Another American lifted a trophy when Coco Gauff won the French Open.
This was quite the victory for Gauff, who had struggled on clay up to that point in her career. Gauff’s masterful performance cemented her as one of the true current greats of the game and showed that she has the versatility to win on multiple different surfaces.
However, the media pressure and accolades were intense, and Coco suffered a slump afterwards. With Wimbledon being played and some time being passed, Gauff is ready to refocus her game, block out the noise, and become a US Open Champion once again.
Gauff’s first Grand Slam was won here at the US Open, and it would not be surprising to see her bounce back and get things together. One of the things that has been plaguing Gauff, however, is her weak service game. She’s going to have to go on a run of strong serving in order to win this title. However, we have seen Gauff get her serve together before and go on runs, so this is not as far-fetched as it might seem.
Iga Swiatek’s Rollercoaster Season
Iga Swiatek was the favorite to win the French Open as she was considered to be the new queen of clay. However, she suffered a disappointing loss in the French Open, and after a myriad of disappointing results by her standards, Swiatek was left wondering where she would go from here. Swiatek seemed to be handling the losses poorly, and one of the strongest parts of her game is her mental toughness. The poor attitude and self-confidence were definitely reasons for her decline.
It looked like she might need to wait until 2026 to find the good results that she was known for. However, in another surprising turn of events, she won Wimbledon, the tournament for which she has had the toughest challenges.
Swiatek has never played well on grass up to this point in her career. She struggled with the low bounces and the lack of time that it gave her to set up her shots. Iga Swiatek definitely prefers the court conditions of the US Open, which are slow and with a high bounce, giving her plenty of time to hit through the ball and stay aggressive. Swiatek’s victory at Wimbledon was more evidence that women’s tennis will always be completely unpredictable.
We have had three different winners so far this Grand Slam season, and it would not be a surprise to make it four. Let’s take a look at some of the players who could make a breakthrough and win their first Grand Slam of the year.
Potential Breakthrough Players
Aryna Sabalenka
Sabalenka is the #1 player in the world, and her game translates well here on the hard courts of the US Open.
I would not be surprised if she breaks through this tournament and becomes the fourth different Grand Slam winner of the season; however, at the odds-on-favorite price, there’s no value in making a bet on her.
Elena Rybakina
Rybakina has struggled this year, especially with all the allegations surrounding her coaching situation. However, she’s finding her form at the right time and is coming off an impressive showing in Cincinnati.
Once again, we must note that Cincinnati plays much differently from Flushing Meadows and that her style of play is much more conducive to the quicker hard courts than these slower hard courts. I’m not against a bet at Rybakina at 8 to 1; however, that price seems about right, and I don’t see that there is value there.
Mirra Andreeva
Andreeva is an up-and-coming player. However, I do think she needs another year of development before she wins a Grand Slam trophy.
If you did place a bet on her at 9 to 1, I don’t think that’s the worst idea in the world, but I personally will not be doing it.
Naomi Osaka
Naomi Osaka recently found her form in Canada, yet fell short in the final.
Osaka has all the tools and is a two-time US Open champion, but at this stage in her career, I don’t believe she has the mental toughness to win seven matches in a row.
Karolina Muchova
Muchova has all the game to become a potential Grand Slam Champion, yet due to injury, she has never been able to stay on the court consistently to truly find her form.
Amanda Anisimova
Amanda Anisimova had her best showing of her career at Wimbledon, but her devastating 6-0,6-0 loss in the final could have some negative mental effects on her approach to the rest of the season.
Long Shots and Favorites for WTA Bets
My favorite long shot is Barbora Krejcikova, a former Grand Slam champion who excels on clay. The slower surface of the US Open is right in her wheelhouse, and her consistency and versatile game should shine here.
My favorite bet of the top players is Coco Gauff. After the slump she suffered following the French Open, I believe Gauff has had sufficient time to find her form. The key to Gauff will be executing a consistent serve, and she has the ability and mental toughness to find her serve once again for seven straight matches.
Gauff has won the US Open before and should be comfortable while receiving plenty of crowd support in New York. My favorite bet of the top players on the women’s side is Coco Gauff.
