Let’s find the best values on the board for NFL player props in Week 5. Player props give us a way to handicap the games that don’t involve the sharpest betting market in the world, NFL sides and totals. We can analyze a player on a hot or cold streak, and also use our knowledge of an individual matchup against a certain defensive scheme to determine whether or not they are a good bet.
Player props reward preparation, and this week’s slate features several players in situations we can exploit. Below, we’ve highlighted three of the best player props for Week 5 that stand out as strong value bets.
Alvin Kamara Over 57.5 Rushing Yards (-117) at Caesars
New York Giants vs. New Orleans Saints – Sunday, October 5, 1:00 PM EDT
The New York Giants have a fearsome pass rush, but they are one of the worst teams against the run this season, giving up 465 yards rushing in four games.
This will play right into the hands of New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara, who is averaging 64 yards per game this season against much better defenses. Kamara put up 99 yards against San Francisco in Week 2 and 70 yards in the Saints’ most recent outing against the Buffalo Bills.
The Giants have a worse rushing defense than both those teams, and the Saints should be motivated to use the ball on the ground and avoid the ferocious pass rush against their young quarterback, Spencer Rattler. Kamara is an excellent player and the game script makes sense for the Saints to feature the run. Watch one of the best running backs in the league take advantage of a porous run defense.
Garrett Wilson Over 60.5 Receiving Yards (-130) at Caesars
Dallas Cowboys vs. New York Jets – Sunday, October 5, 1:00 PM EDT
The Jets have struggled through a 0-4 start, and they’ll be throwing the kitchen sink at the Dallas Cowboys this week to get their first win. And if there’s anything that can make an offense look good, it’s playing against the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys have allowed the most receiving yards to opponents this season, giving up 827 yards to opposing wide receivers through just four games, as well as nine touchdowns to opposing wide receivers. The Cowboys’ opponents know that the way to beat them is through the air.
Garrett Wilson should have had a big game in Week 4 on Monday night football against the Miami Dolphins, but he was robbed by a bad penalty call in that matchup. Wilson will get back on track this week against the weakest secondary in the league. The Cowboys will continue to put up points on offense and give up points on defense. The Jets will be the latest to take advantage of their bad defense. Take Garrett Wilson over on his receiving yards.
CJ Stroud Over 219.5 Passing Yards (-115) at Caesars
Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens – Sunday, October 5, 1:00 PM EDT
Although CJ Stroud is only averaging 208 yards per game passing, he is continuing to get better as the season progresses, throwing 188 yards in Week 1, around 205 yards in Weeks 2 and 3, and 233 yards in his most recent game against the Titans.
Of course, some of that has to do with playing a weak Titans defense, but, lo and behold, the Ravens are even worse against the pass than the Titans. So far this season, the Ravens have allowed the fourth most passing yards at 1,084 in just four games. They’ve allowed opposing quarterbacks to throw for nine touchdowns and just one interception.
Injuries have beleaguered the Ravens’ defense, and they are in no position to put up a fight against a Texans team that has found some momentum with a victory last week. The Texans are getting more and more comfortable. In this game they’ll be the latest team to dice up the Ravens. CJ Stroud will continue to improve, and the Texans will make a statement this week. Take CJ Stroud to go over on his passing yards.
