Gardner Minshew Injury News & Updates
Keep up with the latest injuries from the Colts vs Chiefs game on Sunday with our National Football League injury report.Aug 16, 2025
Plays well in exhibition start
Minshew completed seven of nine pass attempts for 70 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 33-16 preseason loss to the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Minshew got the nod under center with Patrick Mahomes resting for the second straight preseason game. The veteran backup looked sharp out of the gates, cashing in a short touchdown pass to Robert Tonyan on the team's second offensive drive. It was a great sign to see Minshew slinging the ball around after suffering a broken collarbone last season with the Raiders. Expect Minshew to serve as Mahomes' primary backup this upcoming season.

Throwing at OTAs
Minshew (collarbone) has been pictured throwing at Kansas City's voluntary OTAs, Charlie Riedel of the Citrus County Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew appears fully recovered from the season-ending broken collarbone that limited him to 10 regular-season appearances (nine starts) with the Raiders in 2024. The veteran journeyman is secure as the No. 2 quarterback behind superstar Patrick Mahomes after signing a one-year deal with the Chiefs in March, with Bailey Zappe and Chris Oladokun battling it out for third-string duties. In the event that Minshew were to see any significant action in relief of Mahomes in 2025, his experience and the presence of pass-catchers Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown and TE Travis Kelce should allow him to pilot coach Andy Reid's offensive scheme to productive ends.

Slated to back up Mahomes
Minshew (collarbone) has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chiefs, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Raiders released Minshew (collarbone) on Wednesday with a failed physical designation, but just one day later the 28-year-old landed his next assignment, that of backing up star QB Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. In that context, Minshew will remain off the fantasy radar as long as Mahomes is available, but in the event that Mahomes misses any time in 2025, Minshew provides the Chiefs with an experienced and reliable backup option to turn to.
Mar 13, 2025
Released with injury designation
The Raiders released Minshew (collarbone) on Wednesday with a failed physical designation, Vic Tafur of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew is still recovering from the season-ending broken collarbone he sustained Nov. 24. He may well need to wait until he's demonstrably healthy to find a new landing spot. The 28-year-old veteran started nine of his 10 appearances with Las Vegas in 2024, completing 203 of 306 pass attempts (66.3 percent) for 2,013 yards, nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Minshew may well have to settle for a backup gig as his next opportunity, though there are still teams around the league looking for stopgaps at the No. 1 quarterback spot.
Mar 5, 2025
To be released
Minshew (collarbone) will be released when the new league year begins next Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew has one year remaining on a two-year contract, following a 2024 campaign that ended early when he suffered a broken collarbone Nov. 24. He should be recovered from the injury in time for offseason activities, but there's no guarantee of another shot to compete for a starting job -- he may have to settle for a backup role this time around.
Nov 28, 2024
Officially moved to IR
Minshew (collarbone) was placed on injured reserve Thursday.
ANALYSIS
The move was a foregone conclusion, as Minshew broke his left collarbone last Sunday against Denver and had already been ruled out for the rest of the season. Second-year quarterback Aidan O'Connell was activated from IR in a corresponding transaction and is set to start against Kansas City on Friday. Desmond Ridder will continue serving as Las Vegas' backup QB.
Nov 25, 2024
Season-ending injury confirmed
Head coach Antonio Pierce confirmed Monday that Minshew will be out for the rest of the season after suffering a broken collarbone in Sunday's 29-19 loss to the Broncos, Levi Edwards of the Raiders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The report also notes that Pierce confirmed that Aidan O'Connell, who suffered a thumb injury in Week 7, could be activated from injured reserve ahead of Friday's game against the Chiefs. "We'll see if Aidan is good to go," Pierce said of O'Connell on Monday. "He's been ramping up." Look for added context regarding O'Connell's status to arrive once the Raiders' first injury report of Week 13 is posted, but if O'Connell isn't ready to face Kansas City, Desmond Ridder would get Las Vegas' starting QB nod.
Nov 24, 2024
Suffers broken collarbone
Minshew is slated to miss the rest of the 2024 regular season after breaking his collarbone in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 29-19 loss to the Broncos, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew broke his collarbone while being sacked late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game and was replaced by Desmond Ridder. Per Tashan Reed of The Athletic, there is a chance Aidan O'Connell (thumb) could be activated off injured reserve and play in Week 13 against the Chiefs on Friday. Otherwise, Ridder would likely get the start at quarterback. Minshew will end the year having completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 2,013 yards, nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions across 10 regular-season games (including eight starts).
Nov 24, 2024
Will get more tests on shoulder
Head coach Antonio Pierce told reporters after Sunday's 29-19 loss to the Broncos that Minshew's left shoulder injury "doesn't look good," and the quarterback will need further testing to determine the severity of the injury, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew injured his left shoulder on a sack late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game. He went to the locker room and did not return, with backup Desmond Ridder taking over under center for the rest of the contest. The Raiders next game is Friday against the Chiefs, and Pierce relayed there is a chance Aidan O'Connell (thumb) could be activated from injured reserve and suit up for Week 13 if Minshew cannot play, per Tashan Reed of The Athletic.
Nov 24, 2024
Hurts shoulder Sunday
Minshew suffered a left shoulder injury during Sunday's contest versus the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Minshew was sacked three times before he exited in the fourth quarter, the last of which caused his shoulder to be driven into the turf and left him in clear discomfort. He then went to the locker room, where the team deemed him questionable to return. He wasn't able to do so, finishing Week 12 with 230 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 25-for-42 passing and two carries for five yards. Desmond Ridder took over for Minshew under center.
Nov 17, 2024
Impressive yardage total in loss
Minshew completed 30 of 43 passes for 282 yards with two touchdowns and one interception while adding two carries for seven yards in the Raiders' 34-19 loss to the Dolphins on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Minshew accumulated a season high in passing yards while mustering just his second multi-TD effort of the campaign. The veteran quarterback focused the overwhelming majority of his attention on Brock Bowers, who accounted for 13 of Minshew's completions on 16 targets. The remainder of Minshew's production was spread among six other pass catchers, and his pair of scoring tosses landed in the hands of Bowers (23 yards) and Ameer Abdullah (10 yards). Aidan O'Connell (IR, thumb) will remain out for several more weeks, so Minshew will be under center again for a tough Week 12 home matchup against the Broncos next Sunday.
Nov 13, 2024
Still the starter
Minshew will remain the Raiders' starting quarterback Sunday against the Dolphins, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
In the wake of a 41-24 loss to the Bengals in Week 9, head coach Antonio Pierce noted his plans to evaluate the Raiders' QB situation heading into the team's bye week, perVic Tafur of The Athletic. On Wednesday, Pierce said "(Minshew) gives us the best opportunity to move forward...what do we got to lose at this point, right? We're 2-7." With no signal-caller change in store, Desmond Ridder will back up Minshew on Sunday.
Nov 4, 2024
Coach non-committal on starting job
Head coach Antonio Pierce declined to say Monday whether Minshew would retain the Raiders' starting quarterback job following the team's Week 10 bye, Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
For the third time in his seven starts this season, Minshew was benched during Sunday's 41-24 loss to the Bengals. Desmond Ridder came on in his place and completed 11 of 16 pass attempts for 74 yards and a touchdown while also losing a fumble. Though unspectacular, Ridder's performance has at least prompted Pierce to consider another changing of the guard at quarterback heading into the Raiders' next game, Week 11 at Miami. Clarity on the Raiders' plans should arrive when the team resumes practicing, but even if Minshew ends up keeping the job, he'll represent a low-end fantasy option. Over his eight appearances, Minshew has turned the ball over 12 times (eight interceptions, four lost fumbles) and has completed 148 of 221 pass attempts (67.0 percent) for 1,501 yards (6.8 YPA) and six touchdowns. Aidan O'Connell, currently on IR with a broken thumb, won't be eligible to return until Week 13.
Nov 3, 2024
Benched for ineffectiveness
Minshew completed 10 of 17 passes for 124 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and rushed once for no gain before being replaced by Desmond Ridder with 5:02 remaining in the third quarter of Sunday's 41-24 loss to the Bengals.
ANALYSIS
Minshew's numbers underscore why he ultimately was replaced by Ridder, as the veteran signal-caller did little of any impact throughout his time in the game. Minshew failed to throw a touchdown for the third time overall this season, and he finished with under 200 yards for the fourth time as well. Ridder was able to lead one touchdown drive late, so it remains to be seen if a quarterback switch is in the offing during the Week 10 bye ahead of a Week 11 road matchup against the Dolphins.
Oct 27, 2024
Looks good against Chiefs
Minshew completed 24 of 30 passes for 209 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions in Sunday's 27-20 loss to the Chiefs. He added two rushes for six yards.
ANALYSIS
Minshew returned to a starting role with Aidan O'Connell (hand) sidelined and managed to average 7.0 yards per attempt for the first time since Week 1. He didn't push the ball down the field aggressively, instead distributing the ball to short areas of the field while allowing his skill-position players to rack up yards after the catch. Minshew managed to play mostly mistake free, though he did lose a costly fumble that ultimately led to the game-winning score for the Chiefs. Overall, it was a decent performance for Minshew, and he showed some rapport with Jakobi Meyers.
Oct 25, 2024
Starting Sunday
Coach Antonio Pierce confirmed Friday that Minshew will be the Raiders' starting quarterback Sunday against the Chiefs, Heidi Fang of the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.
ANALYSIS
Aidan O'Connell came out of a Week 7 loss to the Rams with a broken thumb that forced him to injured reserve and will require 4-to-6 weeks to recover from. Minshew unsurprisingly will retake the reins of Las Vegas' offense, but he does have another experienced option behind him after the team signed Desmond Ridder off the Cardinals' practice squad earlier this week. Ridder will be the No. 2 QB on Sunday, while Minshew will make his fifth appearance of the campaign. In the first four, Minshew completed 52 of 82 passes for 455 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Oct 21, 2024
Reinherits starting role
Minshew will return to the starting lineup for Las Vegas beginning Week 8 against the Chiefs with Aidan O'Connell (thumb) expected to be placed on IR, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew's grasp on the starting gig lasted just five weeks before head coach Antonio Pierce opted to turn to O'Connell during Las Vegas' Week 5 loss to Denver, but the veteran now looks set to return to the No. 1 role with his competition having suffered a thumb fracture during Sunday's 20-15 loss to the Rams. After replacing O'Connell versus Los Angeles, Minshew completed 15 of 34 passes for 154 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions, putting him at a 4:8 TD:INT on the season. With former No. 1 wide receiver Davante Adams now a member of the Jets, it's difficult to picture Minshew's production rapidly improving heading into a difficult matchup against Kansas City.
Oct 20, 2024
Struggles after O'Connell injury
Minshew completed 15 of 34 passes for 154 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions after replacing Aidan O'Connell (thumb) in the first half of Sunday's 20-15 loss to the Rams. Minshew added one rushing attempt for two yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Minshew struggled in relief, failing to make a convincing case to replace O'Connell as the starter moving forward on merit. O'Connell is believed to have sustained a broken thumb, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, and if further testing Monday confirms that diagnosis, the Raiders will have little choice but to turn back to Minshew in Week 8 against the stout Kansas City secondary. Minshew has a 4:8 TD:INT after Sunday's subpar performance against the Rams, which included an interception to end Vegas' last-gasp comeback effort late in the fourth quarter.
Oct 9, 2024
Benched for O'Connell
Minshew has been demoted to the backup QB role, with Aidan O'Connell named the starter for Week 6 against Pittsburgh, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew kept the job for five weeks, going 2-3 while completing 70.7 percent of his passes for 7.2 yards per attempt with four touchdowns and five interceptions. His two worst statistical games were the most recent two, for which No. 1 wide receiver Davante Adams (hamstring) was inactive. O'Connell may also end up playing without Adams, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury and a frequent subject of trade rumors.
Oct 7, 2024
No starter for Week 6 named
Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce declined to name Minshew or Aidan O'Connell the starter for Week 6 during his Monday press conference, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew completed 12 of 17 passes for 137 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions before being pulled for O'Connell in the third quarter of Sunday's 34-18 loss to the Broncos. Across four drives O'Connell wasn't much more impressive, as he completed 10 of 20 passes for 93 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. Minshew has now been benched twice in Las Vegas' last three games, so it looks like the team will seriously evaluate options at the quarterback position heading into a difficult home game against the Steelers on Sunday, Oct. 13.
Oct 6, 2024
Starting role in question
Minshew completed 12 of 17 passes for137 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's 34-18 loss to the Broncos. He added two rushes for 22 yards.
ANALYSIS
Minshew began the game fairly well, as he led the Raiders' on two lengthy drives that resulted in 10 points -- the first of which was capped by a 57-yard touchdown pass. However, things stalled from there, with the low point coming on a 100-yard pick-six by Patrick Surtain. After five additional scoreless drives and another interception, Minshew was pulled late in the third quarter. That marks the second time he's been benched in the last three games, and after the loss, coach Antonio Pierce did not rule out a change under center, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Sep 29, 2024
Modest numbers in Week 4 win
Minshew completed 14 of 24 passes for 130 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 20-16 win over the Browns. He also had two rushing attempts for minus-2 yards.
ANALYSIS
Minshew held onto the starting job after the Raiders mulled replacing him with Aidan O'Connell, and Minshew justified that decision by managing Vegas to victory. While Minshew's performance wasn't impressive statistically, he avoided major mistakes while the Raiders went run-heavy in the absence of star wide receiver Davante Adams (hamstring). Minshew may not be asked to do significantly more in Week 5 against the stout Denver defense, especially if Adams remains unavailable.
Sep 23, 2024
Will remain starter
Minshew will remain the No. 1 option under center heading into the Raiders' Week 4 matchup with Browns, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Antonio Pierce indicated Monday that he had not ruled out the possibility of benching Minshew in favor of Aidan O'Connell according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. However, it did not take long before the team put an end to the quarterback controversy. Minshew completed 18 of 28 passes for 214 yards, one touchdown and one interception in a loss to the Panthers on Sunday. He will look to get back on track in Week 4 versus the Browns.
Sep 23, 2024
Quarterback change not ruled out
Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce said Monday he hasn't ruled out the possibility of benching Minshew in favor of Aidan O'Connell to face the Browns in Week 4, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Pierce said he pulled Minshew for O'Connell late in Sunday's 36-22 loss to the Panthers to "look for a spark," per Tashan Reed of The Athletic, but the team doesn't appear to have yet made a firm decision as to who will start Week 4. Minshew completed 18 of 28 passes for just 214 yards, one touchdown and one interception versus an aggressive Los Angeles defense, though a substantial portion of his production (including his lone TD) came in garbage time. O'Connell, for his part, completed nine of 12 passes for 82 yards and one touchdown, also taking advantage of a more lenient defensive looks late in the fourth quarter. In three regular-season games thus far, Minshew has failed to reach 300 passing yards and has thrown exactly one touchdown and one interception in each contest.
Sep 23, 2024
Pulled late in loss
Minshew completed 18 of 28 passes for 214 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 36-22 loss to the Panthers. He added three rushes for 14 yards.
ANALYSIS
Minshew struggled to move the Raiders offense for most of the day, leading them to only one scoring drive before garbage time. That said, a significant portion of his production came from his final drive in the fourth quarter prior to being pulled, during which he completed six of seven passes for 70 yards and his lone touchdown. Though Aidan O'Connell finished the game, there is no indication that the Raiders are considering replacing Minshew as the starter.
Sep 15, 2024
Leads comeback victory Sunday
Minshew completed 30 of 38 passes for 276 yards with a touchdown and an interception while rushing once for minus-1 yard in the Raiders' 26-23 win over the Ravens on Sunday. He also committed a fumble recovered by Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Minshew took his share of hits against the Ravens' aggressive defense, suffering five sacks on the afternoon. However, he and his teammates persevered, overcoming a 10-point second-half deficit to knot the game at 23 via Minshew's one-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams with just under four minutes remaining in the game. Minshew would eventually helm a game-winning drive capped off by a Daniel Carlson field goal, recording his first win in a Raiders uniform on an afternoon when he connected with seven different targets overall. Minshew and the Raiders next do battle with the reeling Panthers at home in Week 3.
Sep 9, 2024
Key fumble in loss
Minshew completed 25 of 33 passes for 257 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 22-10 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Minshew had a decent statistical performance and effectively spread the ball between several pass catchers. His touchdown came late in the first quarter on a dumpoff to Alexander Mattison, though he managed only 100 yards on 18 attempts in the second half to stall the Raiders' offense. Minshew also had a key mistake late in the second quarter when he fumbled on an attempted pass that led directly to three points for the Chargers. Overall, Minshew has shown the ability to help skill-position players in his offense produce, though his own numbers are more likely to remain pedestrian.
Aug 22, 2024
Won't play in final preseason game
Minshew and other starters won't play in Friday's preseason finale against the 49ers, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew was competent but unspectacular this preseason, completing 16 of 33 passes for 212 yards in two games, without any touchdowns or turnovers. Raiders coach Antonio Pierce named the 28-year-old as his Week 1 starter Sunday, leaving Aidan O'Connell as the backup QB heading into a season opener on the road against the Chargers (Sept. 8). In the meantime, Minshew and O'Connell both will sit out the final preseason game, leaving Carter Bradley and Nathan Peterman to handle QB snaps.
Aug 18, 2024
Wins starting QB competition
Raiders coach Antonio Pierce said Sunday that Minshew will be the team's starting quarterback to open the 2024 regular season, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pierce also said that Minshew's experience was the deciding factor when awarding him the starting job over second-year signal-caller Aidan O'Connell, according to Vic Tafur of The Athletic. The six-year veteran has started 37 of his 49 career games compared to 10 starts with a 5-5 record for O'Connell during his rookie season in Las Vegas. Minshew was also named to his first career Pro Bowl with Indianapolis last year, tossing 15 touchdowns to nine interceptions and 3,305 yards across 17 games, and he's completed 16 of 33 combined passing attempts for 212 yards one touchdown over two games so far this preseason. It's still unlikely that he figures into the team's long-term plans at quarterback. But, Minshew will now lead an offense lacking in proven receiving weapons other than star wideout Davante Adams (undisclosed), as Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker should round out the starting wideouts while tight ends Brock Bowers (foot) and Michael Mayer are likely to be featured as well. The Raiders will open the seaso
Aug 18, 2024
Lackluster showing in start
Minshew started the Raiders' 27-12 preseason loss to the Cowboys on Saturday night and completed 10 of 21 passes for 95 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He also rushed once for five yards.
ANALYSIS
Minshew started and played the first five possessions, but two of those ended on downs and another pair culminated in punts. The veteran signal-caller was able to helm one scoring drive, a five-play 49-yard march on which Minshew had a hand in all but one yard thanks to his 48-yard strike to Tre Tucker on the first play of the possession. However, he averaged just 5.2 yards on his other nine completions, and his competition for the starting job, Aidan O'Connell, had a slightly better showing that included a touchdown pass, albeit alongside a pick-six. The job battle could culminate in Friday night's preseason finale against the 49ers, or head coach Antonio Pierce may opt to name his Week 1 starter prior to that date and not risk injury to either player versus San Francisco.
Aug 15, 2024
Scheduled to start this weekend
Minshew is in line start Saturday's preseason game against Dallas, with Raiders coach Antonio Pierce hoping to then name his Week 1 starter after the game, Rachel Gossen of Raiders.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pierce presumably won't name the Week 1 starter right after Saturday's game, but it sounds like it could happen in the following days. Aidan O'Connell started the preseason opener and completed seven of nine passes for 76 yards on his lone drive, with Minshew then finishing out the first half and completing six of 12 passes for 117 yards and a TD. It was an impressive showing for the Las Vegas offense, featuring two TDs and two FGs through the first four possessions.
Aug 11, 2024
Starting battle nearing conclusion
Raiders coach Antonio Pierce said Sunday that he expects to name a starting quarterback between Minshew and Aidan O'Connell following Saturday's preseason game against Dallas, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Pierce said that Minshew and O'Connell will once again play at least one quarter during this upcoming preseason game with Dallas. The two signal-callers have been splitting first-team practice reps throughtout training camp, and, while O'Connell ultimately got the start during last Saturday's 24-23 loss to Minnesota, both quarterbacks saw relatively equal playing time and neither appeared to separate themselves with their performances during the preseason opener. With this competition seemingly in a dead heat up to this point, it's likely that how Minshew and O'Connell perform against the Cowboys and during upcoming practices could weigh rather significantly in this final decision.
Aug 11, 2024
Leads three scoring drives Saturday
Minshew completed six of 12 passes for 117 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 24-23 preseason loss to the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
While he wasn't exactly efficient, Minshew put points on the board quickly for the Raiders after taking the reins from Aidan O'Connell to begin the second quarter. Minshew tossed a 20-yard strike to DJ Turner for the game's first touchdown, then led two more scoring drives before halftime, including one capped by a two-yard TD plunge from Zamir White. The battle between O'Connell and Minshew for the Week 1 starting job would appear to be a dead heat heading into Las Vegas' next preseason contest against Dallas next Saturday.
Aug 5, 2024
Slated to play a quarter Saturday
Coach Antonio Pierce indicated Monday that he expects both Minshew and Aidan O'Connell to play "a legit quarter" in Saturday's preseason opener against the Vikings, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While both QBs are on track to see work Saturday, Pierce didn't reveal who'll take the first snaps against Minnesota. Though there's been some speculation of late that Minshew may have possibly gained a slight upper hand in the Raiders' signal-caller battle, for his part Pierce notes via Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com that he doesn't think "we can sit there and say somebody's won yet." With the ongoing competition in mind ahead of Saturday's contest, Pierce said "who goes out first and who goes out second really doesn't matter. [They will] get hopefully an equal amount of snaps and opportunity to showcase."
Aug 5, 2024
Gaining edge on O'Connell
Minshew outplayed Aidan O'Connell during Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage, ESPN.com's Paul Gutierrez reports
ANALYSIS
Minshew got the first reps with the first-team offense -- something that's rotated between him and O'Connell throughout training camp. Minshew proceeded to throw a pair of TD passes, while O'Connell didn't have any and was picked off twice. It's only one practice, but Gutierrez suggests that Minshew "might have started to put some distance" between himself and O'Connell. Still, the ongoing competition bears close watching this preseason, with the Raiders likely to play their starters more than a lot of other teams will.
Jul 29, 2024
Rotating with O'Connell
Minshew and Aidan O'Connell have rotated first-team reps through the first week of training camp, Tashan Reed of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
There haven't been many hints about the favorite to start Week 1, with Las Vegas beat reporters mostly noting that the defense is getting the better of the offense regardless of which QB is taking snaps. O'Connell was first through the rotation at the start of the offseason program and again on the opening day of training camp, but it sounds like the split has been around 50/50 overall. Raiders offensive coordinator Luke Getsy didn't provide any hints when he talked to reporters Monday, merely saying that he's been pleased with both quarterbacks so far, per Levi Edwards of the Raiders' official site.
Apr 29, 2024
Avoids draft competition
Minshew remains poised to compete with Aidan O'Connell for the starting job this offseason, with the Raiders not having added to the quarterback position in the 2024 NFL Draft, Mark Anderson of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew joined Las Vegas early in free agency back in March, and while it looked like the team was a candidate to add rookie competition via April's draft, six quarterbacks came off the board before the Raiders' first-round selection of tight end Brock Bowers at No. 13 overall. Las Vegas also boosted the O-line with premium picks, selecting second-round guard Jackson Powers-Johnson and third-round tackle Delmar Glaze, so whichever of Minshew or O'Connell ultimately wins the starting role looks to be in a notably better position to succeed.
Mar 11, 2024
Headed for Las Vegas
Minshew has agreed to a two-year deal with the Raiders, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Pelissero, Minshew's deal is for $25 million and includes $15 million fully guaranteed. Given those reported numbers, Minshew should have a chance to compete with Aidan O'Connell for the Raiders' starting QB job. Minshew -- who turns 28 in May -- recorded 3,305 passing yards to go along with 15 TDs and nine picks in 17 regular-season games (13 starts) with the Colts in 2023. With Minshew on the way out, 2023 first-rounder Anthony Richardson, who is bouncing back from a shoulder injury, is poised to reclaim Indy's starting signal-caller assignment this coming season.
Jan 7, 2024
Quiet line in defeat
Minshew completed 13 of 24 pass attempts for 141 yards and added one carry for nine yards in Saturday's 23-19 loss to the Texans.
ANALYSIS
It was the third start this season in which Minshew did not score a touchdown, resulting in a mediocre fantasy performance to close out the regular season. The Colts' charismatic quarterback did a good job of protecting the football Saturday, which afforded Jonathan Taylor (ankle) the opportunity to post a monstrous rushing line (30/188/1) despite the losing effort. Minshew accrued 3,305 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and 14 turnovers while appearing in 17 games (13 starts) replacing injured rookie starter Anthony Richardson (shoulder). The latter underwent successful shoulder surgery and is lined up to start for the Colts in 2024, leaving Minshew -- an unrestricted free agent -- a likely target for teams in need of a veteran signal-caller this upcoming offseason.
Dec 31, 2023
Quiet in win over Vegas
Minshew completed 15 of 23 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 23-20 win over the Raiders.
ANALYSIS
He added three rushing yards on two carries. Minshew and the Colts leaned on their running game after taking a 14-3 lead into halftime, limiting the quarterback's production, but he did help pad that lead with a 58-yard TD strike to Alec Pierce late in the second quarter. Indianapolis remains in a three-way tie atop the AFC South with Jacksonville and Houston, and as a result Minshew could be asked to do a lot more in Week 18's tilt against the Texans with a potential division title on the line.
Dec 24, 2023
Quiet day with short-handed offense
Minshew completed 20 of 37 passes for 201 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Colts' 29-10 loss to the Falcons on Sunday. He also rushed four times for 31 yards.
ANALYSIS
Minshew was working particularly short-handed considering both pass-catching back Zack Moss (arm) and Michael Pittman (concussion/shoulder) were both unavailable. In that context, Minshew put together some serviceable numbers, although he wasn't as efficient as in other games this season. Minshew also failed to throw a touchdown for the first time in four contests, but he should have a solid chance at better numbers in a Week 17 home matchup against a shaky Raiders defense on New Year's Eve, especially if he can get Pittman back into the lineup.
Dec 16, 2023
Tosses three TDs in Week 15
Minshew completed 18 of 28 passes for 215 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions and also had two carries for no yards during Sunday's 30-13 win against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Despite losing his top two available skill-position players in wide receiver Michael Pittman (concussion) and running back Zack Moss (arm) in the first half, Minshew tossed a trio of scores, marking the fifth time he's done so in his 46 career appearances. Minshew connected with eight different players, but only three of his 18 completions went for 20-plus yards, dampening his yards per attempt to 7.7. While there's a chance RB Jonathan Taylor (thumb) returns to action Week 16, Minshew again may be working with a compromised skill group Sunday, Dec. 24 in Atlanta considering the two injuries that befell the Colts on Saturday.
Dec 10, 2023
Solid numbers in Week 14 loss
Minshew completed 26 of 39 passes for 240 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Colts' 34-14 loss to the Bengals on Sunday. He also rushed twice for five yards and threw a two-point conversion pass.
ANALYSIS
Minshew put together his usual reasonably solid numbers, finishing with his third straight productive effort through the air. Minshew connected with Mo Alie-Cox for his only touchdown pass, a two-yard toss late in the first half. The veteran signal-caller connected with eight different targets overall, and he'll aim to continue his current stretch of strong play against the Steelers in Week 15 home matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Dec 3, 2023
Two touchdowns, 300 yards in win
Minshew completed 26 of 42 passes for 312 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 31-28 overtime win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Minshew lost a fumble near the Tennessee goal line late in the second quarter, but he played a clean game otherwise. He delivered long completions of 55, 46 and 36 yards -- the final of which was a touchdown to Alec Pierce -- to top 300 passing yards for the third time on the campaign. Minshew also connected with Michael Pittman on a four-yard score to clinch the overtime victory, marking the first time that he managed multiple passing touchdowns since Week 8.
Nov 26, 2023
Solid numbers in Week 12 win
Minshew completed 24 of 41 passes for 251 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Colts' 27-20 win over the Buccaneers on Sunday. He also rushed three times for six yards and a score and fumbled once but recovered.
ANALYSIS
Minshew wasn't able to get his team in the end zone through the air, but he put together a solid yardage total against a short-handed Buccaneers defense and also contributed a two-yard scoring rush early in the second quarter. Minshew unsurprisingly focused the most on Michael Pittman, who was on the receiving end of 10 of his completions, and standout rookie Josh Downs, who posted a 5-43 line. Minshew's yardage total was his highest since Week 7, and he'll now turn his focus to a Week 13 divisional road clash against the Titans.
Nov 12, 2023
Underwhelming in win
Minshew completed 18 of 28 passes for 194 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 10-6 win over New England.
ANALYSIS
The Colts were able to rely heavily on Jonathan Taylor to escape with the win, as he carried the ball 23 times compared to Minshew's 28 pass attempts. Despite the limited volume, Minshew made plays when needed, including a 28-yard completion to Josh Downs to help clinch the victory. While he's helped the Colts to wins, Minshew now has one or fewer touchdowns in four of the six games he's started.
Nov 5, 2023
Mistake-free ball in win
Minshew completed 17 of 26 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-13 win over the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
He also gained five yards on five carries. Minshew didn't need to do much on a day when the Indianapolis defense intercepted Bryce Young three times and returned two of them to the house, but the QB did toss a screen pass to Jonathan Taylor in the second quarter that turned into a 10-yard touchdown. More importantly. Minshew didn't commit a turnover after getting picked off five times and losing four fumbles over the last three games, giving him a boost of confidence heading into a Week 10 matchup with the Patriots.
Oct 29, 2023
Mediocre numbers in loss
Minshew completed 23 of 41 passes for 213 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Colts' 38-27 loss to the Saints on Sunday. He also rushed once for three yards.
ANALYSIS
Minshew put together an inefficient day overall that highlighted some of his shortcomings as a passer. Minshew did keep the Colts in the game for the majority of the afternoon and connected with Michael Pittman and Drew Ogletree for scoring passes of 10 and 33 yards, respectively, for the quarterback's second straight multi-touchdown effort, but he also threw an interception for the third consecutive contest. Minshew's first opportunity to bounce back comes in a Week 9 road battle against the Panthers.
Oct 22, 2023
Four total touchdowns
Minshew completed 15 of 23 passes for 305 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 39-38 loss to the Browns. He added three rushes for 29 yards and two additional scores.
ANALYSIS
Though the score indicates this was a shootout, the Colts came out with a focus on the ground game as they had 40 rushing attempts compared to Minshew's 23 passes. He made an impact in both areas of the game, as he launched a pair of long touchdowns that went for 59 and 75 yards to Josh Downs and Michael Pittman, respectively. Minshew also showed surprising effectiveness with his legs, rushing for scores of 17 and four yards. The team isn't likely to ask him to do too much moving forward, but the Colts' have the skill-position players to make plays, which could result in spike performances like Sunday's on occasion for Minshew.
Oct 18, 2023
Looks set to start rest of season
Minshew appears set to start the remainder of the 2023 campaign with Anthony Richardson (shoulder) scheduled for season-ending surgery.
ANALYSIS
Minshew stepping in as Indianapolis' starting quarterback won't just be a temporary measure, with rookie first-round pick Richardson now having to turn his attention toward recovering for Year 2. The Colts could still explore further options under center, but even after a sloppy performance during Sunday's loss to the Jaguars, Minshew is likely the team's best option going forward for the foreseeable future. The veteran struggled with turnovers versus Jacksonville, completing 33 of 55 passes for 329 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions while also losing one fumble. On deck Week 7 is a tough matchup against a Browns defense that just successfully contained Brock Purdy and the 49ers' offense.
Oct 15, 2023
Struggles with turnovers in loss
Minshew completed 33 of 55 passes for 329 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions in the Colts' 37-20 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday. He also rushed twice for four yards and and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Minshew's season-best yardage total was secondary to his untimely quartet of turnovers, which helped sink the Colts' chances in the divisional clash. The one-time Jaguars starter's first two interceptions and his fumble led to a total of 17 Jacksonville points, and he also gave the ball up on downs in each of Indianapolis' last two possessions. Despite the sloppy game, Minshew may be the Colts' best option under center for the foreseeable future, considering Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported earlier Sunday that season-ending surgery is being considered for Anthony Richardson's shoulder injury.
Oct 11, 2023
Starting at least next four games
Minshew is set to start at quarterback for Indianapolis for at least the next four contests with Anthony Richardson (shoulder) officially landing on injured reserve Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Minshew will start under center for the Colts until at least Nov. 12 against the Patriots, which will be Richardson's first possible return date. It's also possible, of course, that Richardson's recovery from his AC joint injury could take longer than the minimum requisite four weeks. Meanwhile, Indianapolis also signed Kellen Mond to the practice squad, which will provide some additional emergency depth for the quarterback room heading into a Week 6 divisional matchup against Jacksonville.
Oct 9, 2023
Steps into starting role
Minshew will start versus the Jaguars in Week 6 with coach Shane Steichen saying Monday that Anthony Richardson (shoulder) will miss "some time," Adam Schefter of ESPNreports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew stepped up in relief of Richardson during Sunday's win over the Titans, in which he completed 11 of 14 passes for 155 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. He will start Week 6 at Jacksonville at a minimum, but depending on the severity of Richardson's AC joint injury, the rookie could be a real candidate to land on IR and miss at least the next four contests. Minshew also relieved Richardson in Week 2 and Week 3, throwing a touchdown in each contest without a single interception. A proven veteran, Minshew is worth fantasy consideration versus the Jaguars for teams in need of a spot start, or in leagues that field multiple QBs.
Oct 8, 2023
Relieves injured Richardson
Minshew completed 11 of 14 passes for 155 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 23-16 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Minshew entered the game late in the second quarter after Anthony Richardson suffered a shoulder injury. The Colts had a modest 10-6 lead at the time, and Minshew moved the offense efficiently enough to keep that lead -- though Zack Moss proved to be the primary force for the unit. The extent of Richardson's injury is not yet clear, though Minshew could be in line to start in Week 6 in a pivotal divisional matchup against the Jaguars.
Sep 29, 2023
Returning to backup duties
With Anthony Richardson (concussion) cleared to play Sunday against the Rams, Minshew will return to QB2 duties for the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Minshew performed admirably in his two games (one start) of action following Richardson's head injury. The veteran completed 46 of 67 pass attempts (69 percent) for 398 yards and two touchdowns, preserving a Week 2 win against Houston and then pulling off the upset in Week 3 against Baltimore in overtime. Minshew remains one of the best backups in the NFL.
Sep 24, 2023
Leads Colts to OT win
Minshew completed 27 of 44 passes for 227 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 22-19 overtime win against the Ravens.
ANALYSIS
Minshew drew a spot start with Anthony Richardson (concussion) sidelined. He had an unremarkable 5.2 yards per attempt to post a mediocre stat line, but he was effective for the Colts as he kept the team in the game and didn't turn the ball over. It's likely that Richardson will pass through concussion protocol ahead of a Week 4 matchup against the Rams, meaning Minshew would shift back to the bench.
Sep 22, 2023
Will start against Baltimore
With Anthony Richardson (concussion) ruled out for Week 3, Minshew will start Sunday against the Ravens, Kevin Bowen of the Colts' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After Richardson was injured on his 18th snap against the Texans in Week 2, Minshew came on in relief and completed a crisp 19 of 25 passes (76 percent) for 171 yards and one touchdown, guiding the Colts across the finish line for the victory. Week 3 presents a much tougher task on the road in Baltimore. Minshew is one of the league's most capable backups, but the Ravens' defense is a recommended fantasy play.
Sep 17, 2023
Solid in emergency duty again
Minshew entered the Colts' 31-20 win over the Texans for Anthony Richardson (concussion) with 12:45 remaining in the second quarter and completed 19 of 23 passes for 171 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions and added two rushes for three yards.
ANALYSIS
Minshew's second straight emergency assignment went off nearly perfectly, with the backup as sharp as his final line implies. Minshew has quickly proven to be a prudent offseason signing for the Colts due to his existing knowledge of new head coach Shane Steichen's system and Richardson's pair of in-game injuries thus far. If Richardson is unable to return for a Week 3 road matchup against the Ravens, Minshew will be in line for his first start of the season.
Sep 11, 2023
Throws two passes late in relief
Minshew went 0-for-2 passing in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville as he played on the offense's final three plays at the goal line with starting quarterback Anthony Richardson exiting with a knee bruise.
ANALYSIS
Minshew couldn't convert on a second-and-goal situation on the game's final meaningful plays. Richardson said after the game he was fine and is expected to play next week against Houston. If not, Minshew would get the start as he's firmly entrenched as the backup.
Aug 20, 2023
Tosses TD on Saturday
Minshew completed 13 of 15 passes for 107 yards and one touchdown during Saturday's 24-17 preseason victory against the Bears.
ANALYSIS
During a week in which the Colts named rookie first-rounder Anthony Richardson their Week 1 starting quarterback, Minshew again has been relegated to backup duties. Still, Minshew took advantage of Richardson getting the night off Saturday, missing just two throws to wide receivers Josh Downs and Juwann Winfree. Considering the team rosters only three quarterbacks, Minshew may get some more exhibition action this Thursday in Philadelphia.
Aug 15, 2023
Moves to backup role
Anthony Richardson was named Indianapolis' starting quarterback for the regular season by head coach Shane Steichen, moving Minshew to the backup role, the Indianapolis Star reports.
ANALYSIS
The move isn't a surprise as Indy's goal was always to have the No. 4 overall draft pick take over the starting role. It's a little surprising the announcement came this early in training camp, but Richardson has had a strong camp and promising first preseason game. Minshew was at best going to start a few games while Richardson was developing, but now he may not get much playing time unless Richardson gets hurt.
Aug 13, 2023
Efficient outing in Colts debut
Minshew was 6-for-6 passing for 72 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in Saturday's preseason loss at Buffalo.
ANALYSIS
Minshew came into the game in the second quarter after Anthony Richardson got the start. Minshew was efficient despite being under pressure as the second-team offensive line struggled at times. Richardson held his own in his first start and unless he takes a big step backward later in the preseason he's likely to start the regular season opener over Minshew. However, no decisions have been made and Minshew has shown he gives the team a reliable, if unspectacular, option.
Jul 28, 2023
Works with backups Friday
Minshew worked exclusively with the second-team offense at Friday's practice, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew took all the first-team reps Wednesday, but coach Shane Steichen said the plan was to rotate Minshew and rookie fourth overall pick Anthony Richardson throughout camp. The two quarterbacks reversed roles Friday, with Richardson taking all 15 reps with the starters, though Minshew finished on a high note by closing out his day with a string of six consecutive completions. This quarterback competition is likely to stretch right up until the regular season, and while Minshew could still earn the Week 1 starting job, it's likely just a matter of time until the Colts hand Richardson the reins to the offense.
Jul 26, 2023
Opens camp in starting role
Minshew received all of the first-team reps in Wednesday's practice, but coach Shane Steichen said that Minshew and Anthony Richardson will rotate on the first team as camp progresses, Jake Arthur of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew completed all four of his passes Wednesday on the first day of training camp for the Colts. Richardson was drafted fourth overall in 2023 despite being considered a raw prospect, and Minshew's experience has him slightly ahead in the team's quarterback competition at this point, though Indianapolis will likely give the more mobile Richardson plenty of opportunities to seize the starting job before the season begins.
May 26, 2023
Sharing first-team reps with rookie
Minshew shared first-team reps with Anthony Richardson on Thursday, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Shane Steichen told reporters it was an important step in the Colts' evaluation of Richardson to see him with the first-stringers, adding that the fourth overall pick "made some big plays, some next-level stuff" during Thursday's practice. Minshew may still end up getting more snaps with the starters this spring, but he's got a challenge on his hands to stay atop the depth chart throughout the summer and into Week 1.
May 1, 2023
Richardson seen starting early
Minshew could begin the regular season as Indy's starting quarterback, but 2023 first-round draft pick Anthony Richardson is expected to start sooner rather than later, Zac Keefer of The Athletic reports. "[Richardson's] experience as a player and getting more reps - practice reps, game reps - I think that's how you develop," said head coach Shane Steichen.
ANALYSIS
The Colts signed Minshew to a one-year contract to provide a veteran backup who can ease Indy's transition into a new franchise quarterback. It sounds like the Colts intend for Richardson to be the Week 1 starter, but his ascent into the starting role will depend on how he fares in training camp. Minshew could be the early season starter, but we wouldn't count on him starting many games ahead of Richardson.

Signing with Colts
The Colts have agreed to terms with Minshew, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Minshew's one-year deal is for $3.5 million (fully guaranteed) and could be worth up to $5.5 million with incentives. The 2019 sixth-rounder joins the Colts a day after the team officially released veteran signal-caller Matt Ryan. The addition of Minshew gives Indy an option with NFL starting experience ahead of the 2023 season, but it remains to be seen how the rest of the QB depth chart will end up shaking out, with the franchise likely to continue bolstering the position, quite possibly via next month's draft.
Feb 27, 2023
Solid as backup in 2022
Minshew completed 44 of 76 passes for 663 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions across five appearances (two starts) with the Eagles in 2022. He also had seven carries for three yards and a score, plus four fumbles (one lost).
ANALYSIS
Minshew started Weeks 16 and 17, against the Cowboys and Saints, resulting in two losses for the Eagles while Jalen Hurts missed time due to a shoulder injury. The soon-to-be 27-year-old is scheduled to hit free agency when the new league year begins, though Philadelphia could have motivation to re-sign him and keep total consistency at the quarterback position. In any case, Minshew shouldn't have trouble find a backup role for the 2023 campaign.
Jan 8, 2023
Headed back to No. 2 role
Minshew is set to return to the backup role Sunday against the Giants with Jalen Hurts (shoulder) listed as questionable but slated to start at quarterback in the regular-season finale, ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
While filling in for Hurts in losses to the Cowboys and Saints in Weeks 16 and 17, respectively, Minshew completed 42 of 72 pass attempts for 629 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions to go with five rushing yards and another score. Though Hurts practiced in some capacity all week and isn't expected to be limited Sunday while the Eagles look to secure the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs with a win, the Giants are heavy underdogs and will be starting their third-string quarterback (Davis Webb) while also likely resting several other key players. With that in mind, it wouldn't be surprising if Minshew ends up getting in some snaps in relief of Hurts during the second half if the Eagles have turned the game into a blowout.
Jan 2, 2023
Big second half in loss
Minshew completed 18 of 32 passes for 274 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Minshew had a disastrous first half, as he was sacked five times as opposed to completing only six passes. He turned things around in the final two quarters, primarily thanks to a 78-yard touchdown pass to A.J. Brown. Minshew also threw a pick-six with five minutes remaining in the game, sealing a loss for Philadelphia. It remains to be seen whether Jalen Hurts (shoulder) will return for a Week 18 matchup against the Giants, which will dictate whether Minshew will have the chance to start a third-straight game.
Jan 1, 2023
Starting again Sunday
Minshew is in line to start Sunday's game against the Saints in place of an inactive Jalen Hurts (shoulder), Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew will be afforded a second consecutive start with Hurts tending to a sprained right throwing shoulder. In a Week 16 loss at Dallas, Minshew completed 24 of 40 passes for 355 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, scored a TD on the ground and also lost a fumble.
Jan 1, 2023
In line to start Sunday
Minshew is slated to start Sunday's game against the Saints, Stacey Dales of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With Jalen Hurts (right shoulder) not in line to play Sunday, a notion that will be confirmed once the Eagles' inactives are posted ahead the team's 1:00 ET kickoff, Minshew is poised to make his second straight start. In the team's Week 16 loss to the Cowboys, Minshew completed 24 of 40 passes for 355 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, while adding four carries for five yards and another TD.
Dec 30, 2022
Likely starting with Hurts doubtful
Minshew is on track to start Sunday's game against New Orleans with fellow Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (shoulder) listed as doubtful, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Hurts showed progress when he returned to practice this week, but the Eagles are leaning cautious and figure to hold him out for another game. They won't have any playoff implications in Week 18 if Minshew leads them to victory this Sunday, so his odds for a third start partially depend on how he plays. Standout RT Lane Johnson (adductor) is out this Sunday, but even without him the Eagles have an above-average offensive line and one of the best groups of skill-position talent in the league. RB Miles Sanders (knee) and WR A.J. Brown (knee) both have been cleared for Sunday after missing out on some practice reps this week.
Dec 24, 2022
Two TDs offset by three turnovers
Minshew completed 24 of 40 passes for 355 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions, had four carries for five yards and another TD and fumbled twice (one lost) during Saturday's 40-34 loss at Dallas.
ANALYSIS
After handling all the first-team reps during Week 16 prep, Minshew got his first start of the season (and first since Week 18 of the 2021 campaign) for an injured Jalen Hurts, who is dealing with a sprained right shoulder. It's unclear if this will be the first of a handful of nods for Minshew down the stretch, but he fared well with volume, while also committing at least three turnovers for the first time since Week 9 of his rookie 2019 season. With a pair of top wide receivers to work with in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, both of whom reached 100 yards Saturday, Minshew has enough skill-position talent to produce as long as he's directing the Eagles offense. If Hurts yields his starting spot to Minshew again Week 17, the latter will be facing the Saints on Sunday, Jan. 1.
Dec 22, 2022
Named Week 16 starter
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said Thursday that Minshew will start Saturday's game in Dallas, Eliot Shorr-Parks of Sports Radio 94 WIP Philadelphia reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Sirianni noted that MVP candidate Jalen Hurts pushed to play through his sprained throwing shoulder, the Eagles won't take any chances with their top signal-caller after he failed to practice in any fashion Tuesday and Wednesday. Expect Hurts to be formally ruled out for the Week 16 contest following Thursday's practice, leaving third-stringer Ian Book to dress as the backup to Minshew, who picks up his first start of the season after making his other three appearances in 2022 at the tail end of blowouts. Minshew previously made two starts in place of Hurts in the 2021 season and fared well in those outings, completing 67.2 percent of his throws for 7.4 yards per attempt and a 4:1 TD:INT. Given his past performance and favorable team context, Minshew should make for a viable lineup option in leagues that start two quarterbacks or have a superflex spot available.
Dec 20, 2022
Out Tuesday, but poised for start
Minshew didn't participate in Tuesday's walk-through practice due to a personal matter, but at this stage of the week, he appears to be trending toward starting Saturday's game at Dallas while top quarterback Jalen Hurts tends to a sprained throwing shoulder, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Hurts was also listed as a non-participant on Philadelphia's first Week 16 practice report, and while both he and head coach Nick Sirianni aren't dismissing the possibility of the signal-caller playing through his injury Saturday, the Eagles' two-game edge over the Vikings for the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs could be enough for the team to err on the side of caution and hold him out this weekend. According to Tim McManus of ESPN.com, Minshew was excused from Tuesday's practice while he attended funeral services for his college head coach, Mike Leach, but Minshew is expected back in the Philadelphia area later Tuesday and should have plenty of time to get prepared for the possible Week 16 starting assignment. All 24 of Minshew's snaps thus far in 2022 have largely come in garbage-time scenarios, but he shined in two starts for Philadelphia last season, completing 67.2 percent of his throws for 7.4 yards per attempt and a 4:1 TD:INT in games against the Jets and Cowboys.
Dec 14, 2022
Appears in blowout
Minshew took five snaps on offense in Sunday's 48-22 win over the Giants, handing off four times and then kneeling down for a one-yard loss on the Eagles' final possession to run out the clock.
ANALYSIS
Minshew has now played in two straight games, with both appearances coming in relief of starting quarterback Jalen Hurts when the outcome of the game has been well in hand. Now sitting at 12-1 and holding a two-game edge on the Cowboys and Vikings for the NFC's top seed, the Eagles could secure a first-round bye plus home-field advantage before Week 18. If that's the case, Minshew could get the opportunity to start the regular-season finale against the Giants if the Eagles are eager to avoid exposing Hurts to a potential injury ahead of the playoffs.
Aug 21, 2022
Efficient in exhibition
Minshew completed 14 of 17 passes for 142 yards in Sunday's 21-20 preseason win over the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Minshew played the entire first half and was rather efficient throwing the ball, particularly when targeting wideout Deon Cain. The pair connected on back-to-back plays of 24 and 23 yards during the second quarter, helping Philadelphia carry a 14-13 lead into halftime. Although Jalen Hurts is slated to start at quarterback for the Eagles this season, Minshew embodies one of the league's better second-string options, as he showed in Sunday's exhibition victory.
Jul 6, 2022
Likely staying in Philly
The Eagles might consider trading Minshew for an early draft pick but otherwise are expected to keep him around as a backup in the final season of his rookie contract, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew was excellent in his one start last year, but Jalen Hurts then returned from an ankle injury and played well down the stretch to lock up a playoff spot. The Eagles then went out and traded for WR A.J. Brown to give their offense a big boost, increasing the odds of Hurts finding success in his second year as a starter. That also means Minshew will be in better position to succeed if he does see the field, but he won't have an opportunity to win the starting this summer.
Jan 24, 2022
Makes two spot starts in 2021
Minshew completed 41 of 60 passes for 439 yards, four touchdowns and an interception across four appearances during the 2021 campaign. He also added nine rushing attempts for 21 yards.
ANALYSIS
While he made four appearances, the majority of Minshew's production came in two spot starts. In Week 13, he drew the start against the Jets while Jalen Hurts (ankle) was sidelined. He led the Eagles to a win by completing 20 of 25 passes for 242 yards and two scores. In Week 18, he took the reins once again from Hurts -- who was resting for the playoffs -- and completed 19 of 33 passes for 186 yards, two scores and one interception, while leading Philadelphia past Dallas. Minshew is under contract for the 2022 season, but his name will likely be mentioned in trade talks after the Eagles expressed confidence in Hurts moving forward.
Jan 9, 2022
Throws two touchdowns
Minshew completed 19 of 33 passes for 186 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 51-26 loss to the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Minshew got off to a decent start, capping the Eagles' opening drive with a three-yard shovel pass to Tyree Jackson for a touchdown. He later had a deep, would-be touchdown dropped by J.J. Arcega-Whiteside, who also couldn't haul in a pass that floated on Minshew before being intercepted in the second half. Fortunately, though, the signal-caller closed on a high note, hitting Quez Watkins for a 36-yard score with under two minutes remaining. Although usual starter Jalen Hurts (coach's decision) should reclaim his job for next weekend's playoff game after resting Saturday, Minshew at least embodies a serviceable backup if needed.
Jan 8, 2022
Getting spot start Saturday
Minshew will start Saturday's game against the Cowboys with Jalen Hurts (ankle) inactive, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.
ANALYSIS
The Eagles are giving Hurts the week off to ensure he's as healthy as possible for the postseason. Minshew thus will make his fourth appearance and second start with the team, which so far has translated to 22-for-27 passing for 253 yards and two touchdowns to go with four carries for 11 yards.
Dec 20, 2021
Headed back to No. 2 role
Minshew is expected to serve as the Eagles' backup quarterback Tuesday against Washington with Jalen Hurts (ankle) entering the Week 15 matchup without an injury designation, Chris Franklin of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Hurts turned in full practice sessions Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, clearing up any lingering concerns about the health of his sprained ankle, which prevented him from playing in the Eagles' Week 13 win over the Jets prior to a Week 14 bye. Minshew stepped in for a spot start in that contest and completed 20 of 25 attempts for 242 yards and two touchdowns in Philadelphia's 33-18 win, but head coach Nick Sirianni reiterated after that game that Hurts would retain the starting job when healthy.
Dec 17, 2021
Eagles-Washington moved to Tuesday
Minshew and the Eagles will no longer play Washington on Sunday, after the NFL officially rescheduled the matchup between the two teams for Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
ANALYSIS
Due to ongoing COVID-19-related concerns within Washington's organization, the NFL is hopeful that by delaying the game two days, the Football Team will restore enough players from the reserve/COVID-19 list to alleviate depth concerns on the roster. The delay should also provide more healing time for Eagles signal-caller Jalen Hurts, who sat out the Eagles' Week 13 win over the Jets with a left ankle sprain before Philadelphia went on bye Week 14. Hurts returned to practice this week and upgraded to full participation Friday after limited activity Wednesday and Thursday, but the Eagles still gave him a questionable designation heading into the weekend. Head coach Nick Sirianni previously said that Hurts would be the team's starter when healthy, but if the Eagles have any reservations about the second-year signal-caller's status by the time Tuesday arrives, Minshew will be prepared to make his second straight start. Minshew continued to share first-team reps in practice with Hurts this week, coming off an impr

Sharing first-team reps
Minshew and Jalen Hurts (ankle) are expected to split practice reps this week, with Hurts considered truly questionable for Sunday's game against Washington, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
Coach Doug Pederson said Wednesday that Hurts is trending up, but Garafolo suggests that's relative to Week 13 when the Eagles knew all along that the 23-year-old QB was unlikely to play. While Hurts has a better chance to suit up after the Week 14 bye, it's apparently no sure thing, giving Minshew a shot at his second start of the year. He completed 20 of 25 passes for 242 yards and two TDs in the 33-18 win over the Jets in Week 13, and the upcoming matchup could be similarly favorable with Washington's defense hit hard by COVID-19 absences.
Dec 5, 2021
Accurate in win
Minshew completed 20 of his 25 passes for 242 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sundays 33-18 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Minshew drew the spot start with Jalen Hurts (ankle) inactive and led the Eagles offense to an efficient performance. He ended the first half having completed 14 of his 15 pass attempts for 188 yards and two touchdowns, also finding the end zone on completions of 36 and 25 yards. Despite the strong effort, his production was curtailed in the second half by game script as the Eagles relied heavily on the run to maintain their lead. Even with this impressive effort, Minshew will likely be limited to this lone start because Hurts will have the Eagles bye in Week 14 to allow his ankle to heal.
Dec 5, 2021
Picking up Week 13 start
Minshew will start Sunday's game against the Jets, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
With Jalen Hurts (ankle) inactive for the first time this season, Minshew will see his first extended action as a member of the Eagles, as his lone prior appearance with Philadelphia came during garbage time of a Week 8 win over the Lions. While Minshew isn't nearly as threatening as Hurts as a runner, he could amount to an upgrade for the Philadelphia passing game. In 23 games (20 starts) with Jacksonville over the past two seasons, Minshew averaged 240.4 passing yards per contest while posting a 37:11 TD:INT.
Dec 4, 2021
Spot start imminent?
Minshew could be in line to earn a spot start Sunday at the Jets with Jalen Hurts (ankle) trending toward inactive status, NFL reporter Derrick Gunn reports.
ANALYSIS
Hurts came out of a Week 12 loss to the Giants with a sore left ankle and proceeded to log limited practices Wednesday through Friday, splitting first-team reps with Minshew in the process, per Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer. The contingency plan set up Minshew to be the Eagles' No. 1 quarterback if Hurts was unable to go, and that scenario seems as if it'll come to pass. The Eagles will confirm as much approximately 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff. While Minshew has only made one brief appearance with the Eagles back in Week 8 -- he completed both passes for 11 yards -- he previously averaged 240.4 passing yards per game, tossed 37 touchdowns versus 11 interceptions and racked up 497 yards and one TD on the ground in 23 games (20 starts) for the Jaguars.
Dec 3, 2021
Could draw Week 13 start
Minshew took about half of the available reps with the Eagles' first-team offense this week and could be needed to start Sunday against the Jets with Jalen Hurts (ankle) listed as questionable for the contest, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Nick Sirianni noted that he's confident in either of his two quarterbacks, but Hurts will retain the starting job if he's able to make enough progress in his recovery from the sprained ankle that limited his practice activity this week. Since the Eagles kick off among the early wave of Sunday games at 1 p.m. ET, fantasy managers looking for clarity on Hurts' status should have alternatives available in the event he's inactive, with Minshew representing one of those options. Though his lone game action this season has come in garbage time of a blowout win over the Lions in Week 8, Minshew showed during his previous two seasons in Jacksonville that he can do an adequate job of directing an offense while presenting some threat as a scrambler, though not nearly to the degree of Hurts. Over 24 career games, Minshew owns a 63 percent completion rate to go with 6.9 yards per attempt and a 37:11 TD:INT.

Moving up depth chart
Minshew moved up the depth chart to No. 2 behind starter Jalen Hurts after the Eagles traded Joe Flacco to the Jets on Monday, Josh Tolentino of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "We feel really good about Gardner Minshew being our No. 2 quarterback," coach Nick Sirianni said.
ANALYSIS
Since he landed in Philly on Aug. 28 after playing out the preseason with the Jaguars, Minshew has been the Eagles' third quarterback behind Hurts and Flacco, relegating him to inactive status for each of the team's seven games to date. Now with Flacco back in New York, Minshew will be on hand in the event of a Hurts injury or demotion. In his first two pro campaigns in Jacksonville, Minshew went 7-13 as a starter, averaged 240.4 yards per game and posted 37 touchdowns versus 11 interceptions in 23 appearances. He also made an impact as a runner, compiling 497 yards and one TD on the ground.
Oct 14, 2021
Inactive Thursday
Minshew (coach's decision) is inactive for Thursday's game against the Buccaneers.
ANALYSIS
Minshew hasn't been active for any of the first six games of the season. Joe Flacco will serve as the primary backup behind Jalen Hurts once again.
Oct 10, 2021
Healthy scratch once again
Minshew (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's matchup with the Panthers.
ANALYSIS
Minshew will be a healthy scratch for the fifth straight week to start the season. Joe Flacco will continue to operate as the backup quarterback behind Jalen Hurts.
Oct 3, 2021
Inactive again
Minshew (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 4 matchup against the Chiefs.
ANALYSIS
Minshew has yet to wrestle the backup quarterback job away from Joe Flacco. As a result, he is inactive for the fourth consecutive game to begin the campaign.
Sep 27, 2021
Sitting again Week 3
Minshew (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday's game against the Cowboys.
ANALYSIS
Minshew will be a healthy scratch for the third straight game to open the season. Jalen Hurts will receive another start with Joe Flacco as Philadelphia's backup quarterback Monday.
Sep 19, 2021
Not playing Week 2
Minshew (coach's decision) is listed as inactive Sunday against the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
As he was in the season opener, Minshew will be in street clothes while Jalen Hurts starts at QB for the Eagles, with Joe Flacco in reserve.
Sep 12, 2021
Healthy scratch Sunday
Minshew (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Minshew arrived in Philadelphia back on Aug. 28 via a trade with the Jaguars, but he won't be in uniform for his first potential game with the Eagles. Instead, Jalen Hurts will be under center, as expected, with Joe Flacco the only other available QB to coach Nick Sirianni.
Aug 28, 2021
Traded to Philly
Minshew was traded to the Eagles for a conditional sixth-round pick Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
It appears as if the quarterback competition orchestrated by coach Urban Meyer paid off as the Jaguars were able to land a sixth-round pick which could turn into a fifth depending on how much Minshew plays on his new team. It's a curious move on the side of the Eagles considering Joe Flacco was supposedly locked in as the team's top backup, but the move to acquire Minshew might mean the veteran Super Bowl winner could slide down on the depth chart. It's hard to imagine the 2019 sixth-round pick will challenge Jalen Hurts for the starting spot, but Minshew is a cheap asset who has proved to be a relatively quality backup during his handful of starts thus far in his career.
Aug 25, 2021
Backup status now official
Coach Urban Meyer announced Wednesday that Trevor Lawrence will start Week 1, leaving Minshew to handle backup duties, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Meyer took his time officially naming a starter in Jacksonville, but it ultimately comes as no surprise to see the rookie No. 1 overall pick operating ahead of Minshew on the depth chart. The third-year pro will be one of the more competent backups in the NFL, to his credit. Across 23 appearances in the first two seasons of his career, Minshew logged a more than respectable 37:11 TD:INT ratio. The 25-year-old could even still garner interest around the league as a trade candidate, should the Jaguars opt to pursue that route.
Aug 23, 2021
Throws costly interception
Minshew completed 13 of 21 passes for 149 yards and an interception in Monday night's 23-21 preseason loss to the Saints.
ANALYSIS
Minshew entered after watching rookie top-pick Trevor Lawrence complete 14 of 23 attempts for 113 yards in the first half, managing just three points on six drives. Although Minshew was more efficient and had the Jags on the doorstep of scoring, his interception from the opposing two-yard line put a big damper on his performance. The third-year pro was already seemingly facing an uphill battle to be named starter over Lawrence, and even though that determination is yet to be made, it wouldn't be surprising if Minshew learns his second-string fate sometime soon.
Aug 15, 2021
Follows Lawrence
Minshew completed four of his eight passes for 47 yards and one interception in Saturday's preseason game against Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
Minshew entered the game for the Jaguars' fourth offensive series, following Trevor Lawrence into the contest. He largely worked near the line of scrimmage and the majority of his production came from Tavon Austin's work after the catch. Despite the team insisting that there is an open competition at quarterback, Minshew is almost certain to begin the season behind Lawrence on the depth chart.
Jul 28, 2021
Takes first snap at camp
Minshew took the first snap of training camp in 7-on-7s, Mark Long of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
New coach Urban Meyer may defer to veterans on the first day of camp, but there's little doubt No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence will get the Week 1 start. Minshew profiles as one of the top backup QBs in the league, potentially making him a valuable trade chip if the Jags want to take things in that direction. The team did sign C.J. Beathard to a two-year, $5 million contract this offseason, so the backup spot will be in decent hands even if Minshew isn't around. It is possible the Jaguars are cautious with Lawrence this summer, given that he had surgery on his left shoulder in mid-February.
Mar 24, 2021
Could be traded soon
The Jaguars' signing of QB C.J. Beathard could set the stage for Minshew to be traded, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
It would be a downgrade for the backup QB spot, but potentially worth it for the Jaguars if they could get an early-ish draft pick or a good player in exchange for Minshew. With the team widely expected to draft Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence, it's hard to imagine Minshew having any objection to a trade.
Jan 19, 2021
Could be traded
It isn't clear Minshew has a future with the Jaguars, John Reid of The Florida Times-Union reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew went 1-7 as a starter in his second NFL season, though his passing stats -- 66.1 completion percentage, 6.9 YPA, 16 TDs, 5 INTs -- show a degree of competence that wasn't matched by fellow Jaguars quarterbacks Mike Glennon and Jake Luton. The team is now expected to draft Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence, potentially leaving Minshew to compete with Luton for the backup job. The Jaguars figure to explore trade opportunities this offseason, so it's possible the 2019 sixth-round pick ends up on a new team for his third NFL campaign.
Dec 30, 2020
Won't get Week 17 start
Head coach Doug Marrone said Wednesday that Minshew will remain the Jaguars' backup quarterback behind Mike Glennon for the team's Week 17 game in Indianapolis, John Oehser of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
When he met with the media Monday, Marrone left the door open for Minshew to supplant Glennon as the Jaguars' Week 17 starter, but the coach ultimately elected to maintain the status quo after reviewing the game film following Sunday's loss to the Bears. Minshew has outproduced Glennon from a statistic standpoint this season (66.1 percent completion rate, 6.9 yards per attempt, 16:5 TD:INT), but the second-year signal-caller has put up a good chunk of his production in garbage time and clearly isn't viewed as the Jaguars' long-term answer at quarterback. Glennon is set to become a free agent this offseason and may not be retained, but Minshew won't have a clear path to the starting role in 2021 with Jacksonville likely to select a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming draft.
Dec 26, 2020
Relegated to backup
Minshew will act as the team's backup Sunday against the Bears after it was announced Mike Glennon would start the contest, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew's relatively solid surface numbers against the Ravens last week (75.9 completion percentage, two touchdowns to one turnover) masked what was a quietly toothless Jaguars offense albeit against a difficult matchup. It's not entirely surprising to see the team turn to Mike Glennon as the starter after both quarterbacks were splitting first-team reps throughout the week, but considering the veteran's track record as as a below-average starter at the professional level it's hard to imagine much will change from an offensive perspective in another difficult matchup on tap for Week 16.
Dec 23, 2020
Competing for Week 16 starting gig
Head coach Doug Marrone said Minshew and Mike Glennon will split first-team reps in practice this week before a decision is made on the Jaguars' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Bears, John Reid of The Florida Times-Union reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew took back the starting role after shining in relief of Glennon in the Week 14 loss to the Titans, but the former struggled mightily to move the offense for most of the day in last weekend's blowout loss to the Ravens. Though Minshew only turned the ball over once and finished with a 75.9 percent completion rate, 7.8 YPA and two touchdown passes, most of his production came in the second half during garbage time. As a result, Minshew will be forced to compete for his job once again, but no matter who wins the battle, fantasy managers will likely want to avoid the Jacksonville quarterback situation Week 16.
Dec 20, 2020
Modest numbers in blowout loss
Minshew completed 22 of 29 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions during Sunday's 40-14 loss at Baltimore. He also had two carries for nine yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
The overall numbers don't look bad, but Jacksonville's offense was unable to get anything going until the second half with Baltimore already leading 26-0. Minshew should retain the starting gig heading into Week 16, though the matchup with the Bears doesn't figure to make things any easier, especially if tailback James Robinson (ankle) is forced to miss any time.
Dec 14, 2020
Back in starting seat
Coach Doug Marrone said Monday that Minshew will start Sunday's game in Baltimore, Mark Long of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew entered last weekend's loss to the Titans in relief of Mike Glennon early in the second half, completing 18 of 31 pass attempts for 178 yards and one touchdown. The second-year signal-caller's performance has earned him the starting nod for Week 15, but he'll draw a tough matchup on the road in Baltimore.
Dec 13, 2020
Enters game in second half
Minshew completed 18 of 31 pass attempts for 178 yards and one touchdown in Week 14 against the Titans. He added two rushes for 22 yards.
ANALYSIS
Minshew entered the game in relief of Mike Glennon, who was benched for poor performance. He played nearly the entire second half and led the Jaguars to their only touchdown of the game. However, as has been typical, Minshew didn't look to push down the field, with his longest completion of the day going for 22 yards. It remains unclear whether Minshew or Glennon will be under center in Week 15 when the Jaguars take on the Ravens.
Dec 2, 2020
Healthy, but not starting
Head coach Doug Marrone said Wednesday that Minshew's sprained right thumb is "fine," but the second-year quarterback will serve as the backup quarterback to Mike Glennon in the Jaguars' Week 13 game in Minnesota, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Marrone noted that team trainers have informed him that Minshew will be a "full go" in practice Wednesday after his thumb injury prevented him from playing in each of the past four games, but the Jaguars will stick with Glennon at quarterback for now after he turned in a serviceable outing his first start since 2017 in last week's two-point loss to the Browns. The coach still left the door open for the team's starting quarterback situation to come down to a week-to-week decision, so Glennon's performance against the Vikings will likely dictate whether or not Minshew eventually recaptures the job over the final quarter of the season.
Nov 29, 2020
Not suiting up Sunday
Minshew (thumb) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Minshew was considered questionable for Sunday's contest but won't be available for the fourth straight contest due to the thumb issues. Even if he suited up, the 24-year-old wasn't yet cleared to start and would have served as the backup for Mike Glennon. Jake Luton will operate as Jacksonville's No. 2 quarterback versus Cleveland. Minshew's return to practice this week potentially puts him in good position to reclaim the starting role against the Vikings next Sunday.
Nov 27, 2020
Questionable for Sunday
Minshew (thumb) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Doug Marrone said earlier this week the 24-year-old won't be ready to handle starting duties this weekend, but he could be available to serve in the backup role to Mike Glennon. Minshew returned to practice as a limited participant this week and was ramping up his throwing, so if all goes well he could return to start at Minnesota next week. Jake Luton is primed to serve as Jacksonville's No. 2 quarterback Sunday should Minshew be unavailable.
Nov 25, 2020
Not ready for starting duties
Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said Wednesday that Minshew (thumb) won't be ready to handle starting duties this weekend versus the Browns, though the 24-year-old could serve as a backup to Mike Glennon, Mark Long of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew has been dealing with multiple fractures and a sprained ligament to the thumb on his throwing hand for nearly a month, missing three games along the way. He at least took a step forward last week by practicing in a limited fashion Wednesday through Friday and carrying a questionable tag into the weekend, but he was ultimately inactive for the Jaguars' 27-3 loss to the Steelers. Per John Shipley of SI.com, Minshew is slated to increase his throwing in practice this week, and if he demonstrates enough progress, he could be active as the backup over Jake Luton, who has been benched in favor of Glennon after starting the past three weeks. Assuming Minshew endures no setbacks and is able to progressively ramp up his activity, he should be on track to reclaim starting duties Week 13 in Minnesota, regardless of how Glennon performs against Cleveland.
Nov 22, 2020
Unavailable Week 11
Minshew (thumb) is inactive Week 11 against Pittsburgh.
ANALYSIS
Despite working up to a questionable tag following a week of limited practices, Minshew was never expected to suit up for this contest. The Jaguars will proceed with Jake Luton as the starting quarterback, with Mike Glennon on hand in a backup capacity.
Nov 20, 2020
Unlikely to play Week 11
Minshew (thumb), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Steelers, isn't expected to be available to play, John Oesher of the Jaguars' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
After sitting out Jacksonville's last two games with multiple fractures and a sprained ligament to his right thumb, Minshew was cleared to practice on a limited basis this week. While coach Doug Marrone indicated that while Minshew was gradually able to throw a little more each day this week, the quarterback still isn't 100 percent. Marrone has already named Jake Luton the team's Week 11 starter, so if Minshew ends up being active Sunday, he would merely be serving as an emergency backup. The Jaguars are expected to reassess their options at quarterback ahead of their Week 12 game against Cleveland.
Nov 20, 2020
Listed as questionable for Week 11
The Jaguars list Minshew (right thumb) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Steelers, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew saw some limited work at practice this week, but the team relayed earlier in the week that Jake Luton would be the starting quarterback against Pittsburgh. Unless there's been a change in that plan, Minshew will either be made inactive or serve as a backup Sunday.
Nov 16, 2020
Won't return Week 11
Coach Doug Marrone said Monday that Minshew won't be available to face the Steelers but may "throw a little" this week, John Shipley of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew looks set to miss his third straight game while working to recover from multiple fractures and a sprained ligament in his thumb, but it would at least represent a notable step forward if he's cleared to resume throwing. Jake Luton is thus bound for another chance to showcase his skillset under center, though Pittsburgh's defense will present a challenge for the rookie sixth-round pick. As Shipley has reported, Marrone has previously stated that Luton could hold on to the starting gig even when Minshew returns to full health, depending on the quality of his play.
Nov 11, 2020
May not start when healthy
Head coach Doug Marrone hinted Wednesday that Minshew may not resume duties as the Jaguars' starting quarterback once he recovers from his right thumb injury, John Shipley of SI.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew hasn't been cleared to throw since being diagnosed Oct. 29 with multiple fractures and a sprained ligament in his thumb, so he'll be sidelined for a second straight game Sunday in Green Bay. In Minshew's stead, Luton will pick up another start after turning in a respectable outing in his NFL debut Week 9, completing 26 of 38 attempts for 304 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding a 13-yard touchdown run in the Jaguars' 27-25 loss to the Texans. Marrone noted that a decision on which quarterback starts beyond Week 10 will hinge on how Minshew heals from the injury and how Luton performs against Green Bay.
Nov 9, 2020
Expected to miss another week
Coach Doug Marrone said Monday that Minshew (thumb) is "unlikely to be available" in Green Bay on Sunday, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew has yet to resume throwing as he works to recover from multiple fractures and a sprained ligament in his right thumb, and while the Jaguars have yet to offer an official timeframe for his return, it certainly looks like he's trending in the wrong direction for Week 10. If Minshew indeed can't go in Green Bay, rookie sixth-round pick Jake Luton will get another opportunity under center. Luton impressed in his first NFL action against the Texans on Sunday, as he threw for 304 yards and one interception while accounting for two scores (one passing and one rushing).
Nov 8, 2020
Not yet throwing
Coach Doug Marrone said after Sunday's loss to the Texans that Minshew (thumb) has yet to resume throwing, Mark Long of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old missed Sunday's contest while dealing with multiple fractures and a sprained ligament in his right thumb, and it appears his outlook for the immediate future remains muddled. Minshew's practice participation later in the week should indicate whether the injuries have improved, but for now he doesn't appear significantly closer to playing. Rookie Jake Luton received the start versus Houston and completed 26 of 38 passes for 308 yards with two total touchdowns and one interception, so he figures to start again next week if Minshew remains unavailable.
Nov 4, 2020
DNP on Wednesday
Minshew (thumb) did not practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Minshew has already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Texans due to multiple fractures and a sprained ligament in his right thumb, so it doesn't come as much of a surprise to see him held out of practice to start the week. Rookie sixth-round pick Jake Luton appears set to start Week 9, with veteran Mike Glennon serving as his backup. The Jaguars haven't yet provided an official timetable for Minshew's return.
Nov 2, 2020
Ruled out for Week 9
Coach Doug Marrone relayed that Minshew (thumb) won't play Sunday versus the Texans, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
It was revealed following the Week 8 loss to the Chargers that Minshew has been dealing with multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb since early October. He'll be shut down as a result, and rookie Jake Luton is expected to start against the divisional rival. Mike Glennon will serve as the backup. There's no clear timeline for when Minshew will return. The second-year quarterback produced 1,855 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and five interceptions while running for 122 yards and a score through the first seven games.
Nov 1, 2020
Unlikely for Week 9
The Jaguars expect Minshew (thumb) to be inactive for the team's Week 9 game against the Texans, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Shortly after the Jaguars headed into their Week 8 bye, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Minshew was revealed to be dealing with multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb after he was sent in for X-rays. While the team hasn't commented on Minshew's injury nor provided a timeline for his return, the second-year signal-caller doesn't look like he'll be ready to go following the open date in Jacksonville's schedule. The Jaguars are expected to have the other two quarterbacks on the roster, Mike Glennon and Jake Luton, compete in practice during the upcoming week before head coach Doug Marrone names a starter for the Nov. 8 game versus Houston.
Oct 29, 2020
Dealing with thumb injury
Recent X-rays revealed that Minshew "has multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb," Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Per the report, the QB has been dealing with discomfort in his thumb since Week 5, but the Jaguars didn't know about the injury until this week. Schefter adds that it's uncertain whether Minshew will be able to play against the Texans in Week 9 following this week's bye. Next up on the team's QB depth chart are Mike Glennon and Jake Luton.
Oct 25, 2020
Has so-so showing Sunday
Minshew completed 14 of 27 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns while rushing four times for 21 yards during Sunday's 39-29 road defeat to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Prior to the game, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Minshew's job security was thinning, and he didn't exactly help his cause with this Week 7 performance. While he tossed multiple touchdowns for the fifth time and avoided throwing a pick for the third occasion in seven games, he matched his season low in passing yards, and his 51.9 completion percentage stands alone is his worst in a single contest on the campaign. The Jaguars have a bye week on tap, so coach Doug Marrone will have time to evaluate Minshew before making a decision on a Week 9 starter under center. Behind Minshew, Mike Glennon and rookie sixth-rounder Jake Luton are the next players up at quarterback in Jacksonville.
Oct 25, 2020
Job security loosening
Minshew is in danger of losing Jacksonville's starting quarterback job if he continues to struggle in Sunday's game against the Chargers, multiple sources tell Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
ANALYSIS
While neither of the other two signal-callers on the 53-man roster (Mike Glennon and Jake Luton) represent long-term solutions behind center, coach Doug Marrone could be willing to make a change at the position if Minshew is unable to help Jacksonville end its five-game losing streak Sunday. At the very least, Minshew will likely need to keep the offense running smoothly through the first three quarters, which has largely been a challenge this season. During the five-game slide, Minshew has completed 65 percent of his passes for eight touchdowns and 6.9 yards per attempt, but he's put up a fair amount of his production in garbage time and has turned the ball over eight times (five interceptions, three lost fumbles).
Oct 18, 2020
Two turnovers in blowout loss
Minshew completed 25 of 44 pass attempts for 243 yards, one touchdown, one interception and a lost fumble in Week 6 against the Lions. He also added three rushes for 14 yards and another score.
ANALYSIS
After a dismal start to the game, Minshew salvaged his day in the second half by finding the end zone twice. His first score came on the ground when he scrambled out of the pocket and evaded a defender for a six-yard rushing touchdown. With five minutes remaining in the game, he tallied his second touchdown on a swing pass to James Robinson from 14 yards away. For the season, Minshew has now recorded multiple touchdowns in five of his six starts. Volume has also been on his side, as he's attempted at least 40 passes in each of his last five games. However, Minshew and the team may be in for a slower-paced game in Week 7 against the Chargers.
Oct 11, 2020
Tops 300 yards
Minshew completed 31 of 49 pass attempts for 301 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 5 against Houston. He also chipped in 18 yards on four rushes.
ANALYSIS
Minshew attempted a season-high 49 passes, but he wasn't particularly efficient by averaging just 6.1 yards per attempt. His longest completion of the day was a 51-yard deep shot to Chris Conley, though he also connected on a pair of completions that went for more than 15 yards with Laviska Shenault. For the season, Minshew has at least two passing scores in four of his five starts and topped 300 yards on three occasions. He'll face a positive matchup against the Lions in Week 6.
Oct 4, 2020
Tops 350 yards in loss
Minshew completed 27 of 40 passes for 351 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 33-25 loss to the Bengals. He added two carries for nine yards.
ANALYSIS
After throwing an interception on the opening drive, Minshew made amends with an 11-yard touchdown to DJ Chark to grab a 7-3 lead late in the first quarter. Unfortunately for the Jaguars, they didn't get back into the end zone again until Minshew's two-yard score to Chark with 6:14 left in the game. The second-year quarterback has thrown for 1,138 yards and an 8:4 TD:INT heading into his team's Week 5 trip to Houston.
Sep 24, 2020
Numbers go for naught in loss
Minshew completed 30 of 42 passes for 275 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in the Jaguars' 31-13 loss to the Dolphins on Thursday. He also rushed three times for 22 yards and lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Minshew had one of the better stat lines you'll see for a quarterback on the wrong end of an 18-point decision. The second-year gunslinger once again displayed above-average accuracy while averaging 6.5 yards per attempt, but he found himself frequently under duress while taking four sacks and 10 hits overall. Minshew's first turnover, a third-quarter fumble at his own seven, was particularly costly and came on one of those sacks, while the second came late in the contest with Jacksonville trying to tack on a meaningless touchdown. Despite Thursday's so-so fantasy effort, Minshew does still sport solid numbers in that regard through his first three games, as he still owns a 6:2 TD:INT and has quickly amassed 787 passing yards. He and his teammates will look to regroup ahead of a favorable Week 4 road matchup against the Bengals on Sunday. Oct. 4.

Comeback falls short
Minshew completed 30 of 45 passes for 339 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions and had four carries for 19 yards during Sunday's 33-30 loss to Tennessee.
ANALYSIS
The 24-year-old was near perfect in the season-opening win against the Colts and found plenty of success through the air versus the Titans, though he did have the two giveaways Sunday. Minshew threw two touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to overcome a 13-point deficit, but Tennessee kicked a late field goal to win it. Minshew has completed 49 of his 65 pass attempts for 512 yards with six touchdowns and two interceptions through his first two games of the season and has a matchup with the Dolphins in Week 3.

Dismantles Colts' secondary
Minshew competed 19 of his 20 pass attempts for 173 yards and three touchdowns in Week 1 against the Colts. He also chipped in five rushes for 19 yards.
ANALYSIS
Minshew didn't have to throw much as the Jaguars' surprisingly found themselves leading the Colts. However, when he took to the air, he dissected the opposing secondary with only one of his attempts falling incomplete. He also delivered a trio of touchdowns, coming from six, 15 and 22 yards respectively. Minshew will look to maintain this type of performance in Week 2 as the Jaguars take on the Titans.

Moved to active roster
The Jaguars activated Minshew from the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday morning.
ANALYSIS
Placed on the list two days prior, Minshew has now passed the necessary tests to be reinstated to the active roster. He's the unquestioned starting quarterback in Jacksonville, where Mike Glennon, Jake Luton and Joshua Dobbs are expected to compete for backup work.

Lands on COVID list
The Jaguars placed Minshew (illness) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday.
ANALYSIS
After the Jags sent Nick Foles to Chicago back in March, Minshew had no impediments to the starting QB gig in Jacksonville. However, he's now either tested positive for COVID-19 or recently been in close contact with someone who did. NFL teams aren't allowed to reveal which one is the case, but Minshew has to pass the requisite number of tests before he's allowed in the team's facilities.

Becomes uncontested starter
Minshew is the uncontested No. 1 quarterback in Jacksonville following the team's decision to trade Nick Foles to the Bears, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jaguars plan to deal Foles to Chicago in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick, per Schefter, a move which will hand Minshew the offensive reigns without contest. Minshew burst onto the scene as a rookie and put together an impressively competent season, notably demonstrating finesse in the red zone with a 21:6 TD:INT ratio. The 23-year-old also showcased an ability to spark Jacksonville's offense via his athleticism, logging 67 rush attempts for 344 yards, an attribute which Foles lacked under center. Minshew is now set to enter training camp as the Jaguars' clear starter, with Joshua Dobbs as his backup.

Primed for competition with Foles
Coach Doug Marrone said Minshew, Nick Foles and Joshua Dobbs will compete for the Jaguars' starting quarterback job this offseason, John Reid of The Florida Times-Union reports.
ANALYSIS
A report from early January suggested Foles would enter the offseason program as the top QB, though it's common sense that Minshew will at least have a shot at the job after his unexpectedly competent rookie season. Dobbs, on the other hand, isn't likely to see many first-team reps. The battle between Foles and Minshew will dominate headlines in Jacksonville throughout the spring and into the summer.

Minshew Mania ends on high note
Minshew (shoulder) completed 27 of 39 pass attempts for 295 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Sunday's 38-20 win over the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Minshew provided one of Week 17's biggest surprises when you consider he entered the game nursing an injured shoulder while also coming off of his worst performance of the season last week against Atlanta (13 of 31 for 181 yards). Filling in for the injured Nick Foles to begin the year, the 2019 sixth-round pick created a huge buzz with some strong fantasy performances coupled with his unorthodox sense of style, thus creating 'Minshew Mania." The Jaguars signed Nick Foles to a huge four-year, $88 million contract this past offseason, money that could dictate giving him another chance to start in 2020, but Minshew showed the team that he is a capable NFL quarterback (60.6 completion percentage, 3,271 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions in 14 games), and he appears to have a higher fantasy ceiling due to his ability to chip in some rushing stats (344 rushing yards).

Ready for season finale
Minshew (shoulder) is officially active for Sunday's season finale against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Minshew was considered questionable due to the bothersome right shoulder, but he'll once again play through the injury. The 23-year-old will look to finish his rookie campaign on a strong note after completing only 13 of 31 passes in Week 16.
Dec 27, 2019
Deemed questionable for Week 17
The Jaguars list Minshew (shoulder) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Colts.
ANALYSIS
Minshew's right shoulder bothered him heading into last weekend's loss to the Falcons, but he entered the contest without an injury designation. The Jaguars' decision to list him as questionable ahead of the season finale suggests his shoulder might be at least a little more of a concern, but no reports have surfaced at this point suggesting that Minshew is truly in jeopardy of sitting out. The rookie has at least been able to get on the practice field in some fashion this week, logging limited workouts Wednesday and Thursday.
Dec 26, 2019
Limited in practice again
Minshew (shoulder) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
The shoulder issue previously limited Minshew for the first two practices of last week, but he turned in a full practice Friday and entered Sunday's 24-12 loss against the Falcons without an injury designation. With the Jaguars offering no indication that Minshew experienced a setback coming out of that contest, he'll likely take every rep in the Jaguars' final practice of Week 17 and make his 12th start of the season in the finale versus the Colts.
Dec 25, 2019
Limited on first practice report
Minshew (shoulder) was listed as limited on Wednesday's estimated practice report.
ANALYSIS
Minshew managed to suit up without an injury designation Week 16 despite initially practicing in a limited fashion, so if things progress as usual, he'll suit up unhindered against Indianapolis on Sunday. If the rookie signal-caller is able to practice fully by Friday, any doubts about his availability will be put to rest.
Dec 20, 2019
Cleared for Week 16
Minshew (shoulder) doesn't have an injury designation for Sunday's game in Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
The rookie quarterback was limited at practice Wednesday and Thursday with the right shoulder issue, but he was able to finish the week with a full practice. Minshew is set to receive his 11th start of the season Sunday against the Falcons, which are allowing 253.7 YPG through the air and a 99.5 opponent QB rating.
Oct 11, 2019
Cleared to play
Minshew (groin) doesn't carry a Week 6 injury designation after returning to a full practice Friday.
ANALYSIS
Minshew logged a limited practice Thursday due to minor groin soreness, but he worked fully Friday, which sets the stage for him to start Sunday's game against the 4-1 Saints, who have won three in a row. The rookie signal-caller is firmly on the fantasy radar after logging a 6:0 TD:INT ratio over his last three games and putting up 374 passing yards in a 34-27 loss to the Panthers in Week 5.
Oct 4, 2019
Manages full practice
Minshew (knee) was a full participant in Friday's practice, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The left knee issue limited Minshew's participation in the first two practices of Week 5, but his ability to complete a full session Friday will allow him to head into Sunday's game in Carolina without an injury designation. The rookie signal-caller will take aim at a stingy Panthers pass defense that has allowed only 5.2 yards per attempt this season, the second-best mark in the NFL.
Oct 3, 2019
Another limited practice
Minshew (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Jaguars have capped the rookie's reps for both of their first two practices of the week while he continues to manage the knee injury he picked up on the final drive of Jacksonville's thrilling victory over the Broncos on Sunday. Minshew may be subject to some more restrictions again Friday, but unless the Jaguars add another quarterback to roster prior to Saturday's deadline, he should receive the green light to start in the team's Week 5 game in Carolina.
Oct 2, 2019
Limited by knee injury
Minshew (knee) will be a limited practice participant Wednesday, John Reid of The Florida Times-Union reports.
ANALYSIS
Minshew was able to play through a minor knee injury on the final drive of Sunday's 26-24 win over Denver. The ailment doesn't seem like a major threat to his Week 5 availability, but it's at least worth keeping an eye on if he can't return to full practice participation Thursday or Friday. The Jaguars have a road game against the Panthers on Sunday.
Oct 2, 2019
Bothered by sore knee
Minshew is dealing with a minor knee injury, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Mike Klis of 9News Denver notes that Minshew came up limping after he took a hard hit on the final drive of Sunday's 26-24 win over Denver. He stayed in the game to lead the Jaguars into range for a last-second field goal, but then was spotted with ice over his left knee after the contest. It sounds like Minshew escaped with a bad bruise, though it could impact his practice participation this week.
