Joins Cardinals' practice squad
Arizona signed Driskel to the practice squad Thursday, Zach Gershman of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel will offer competition for Kedon Slovis, currently the No. 2 quarterback behind Jacoby Brissett with Kyler Murray (foot) on IR for at least four games. Across the first five weeks of the regular season Driskel resided on the Raiders' practice squad, but he wasn't elevated for a single game with the team. He last drew an NFL start for the Browns in 2023, a Week 18 loss to Cincinnati in which Driskel threw for 166 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Oct 8, 2025
Let go by Las Vegas
The Raiders cut Driskel from the practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The move makes room on the Raiders' practice squad for linebacker Jamin Davis. Driskel was signed to Las Vegas' practice squad Sept. 1 but was not elevated to the active roster for any of the first five games of the regular season, and he'll now be on the lookout for his next opportunity.
Sep 1, 2025
Picked up by Las Vegas
The Raiders signed Driskel to their practice squad Monday, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel's most recent NFL start came with the Browns in 2023, when he threw for 166 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in a Week 18 loss to the Bengals. He gives the Raiders extra depth at quarterback with Aidan O'Connell (wrist) and Kenny Pickett (hamstring) riddled by injuries to begin the regular season.

Set as emergency QB again Sunday
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday and will serve as Washington's emergency third quarterback versus Philadelphia in the NFC Championship Game, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel has been the emergency QB throughout most of the season for the Commanders. The journeyman backup appeared in one game this season when he took one offensive snap Week 2 versus the Giants. He'll only be eligible to enter Sunday's game if both starting quarterback Jayden Daniels and primary backup Marcus Mariota are forced out with injury, illness or ejection.
Jan 18, 2025
Serving as emergency QB vs. Lions
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive Saturday and will serve as Washington's emergency third quarterback against Detroit in the NFC divisional round, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
This is a familiar role for Driskel, as he has consistently been inactive as Washington's emergency QB on gamedays. He's gotten into only one contest on the campaign, taking one offensive snap as the backup to Jayden Daniels in Week 2. Driskel won't be able to enter Saturday's playoff contest unless both Daniels and Marcus Mariota become unable to play due to injury, illness or ejection.
Jan 5, 2025
Emergency third QB again Week 18
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive and serving as Washington's emergency third quarterback Sunday versus the Cowboys, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel has consistently worked as the Commanders' emergency QB on game days this season, and he's logged just one snap (in Week 2 against the Giants) on the campaign. As usual, Driskel will be able to enter Sunday's matchup only if No. 1 QB Jayden Daniels and No. 2 QB Marcus Mariota are unable to play due to injury, illness, or ejection.
Dec 29, 2024
Emergency QB for Week 17
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday night's game against Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
Driskell will serve as the Commanders' emergency quarterback Sunday. That means he will only be allowed to see the field if Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota were to exit the game due to injury, illness or ejection.
Dec 15, 2024
Available as emergency QB
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Saints.
ANALYSIS
The quarterback can only enter the contest if starter Jayden Daniels and backup Marcus Mariota can't continue to play. Driskel has played on one offensive snap this season.
Dec 1, 2024
Emergency QB vs. Tennessee
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Titans, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel will once again serve as the Commanders' emergency quarterback Sunday. He'll only see the field if starter Jayden Daniels and backup Marcus Mariota were both to suffer injuries.
Nov 24, 2024
Emergency QB for Week 12
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against Dallas but will serve as Washington's emergency third quarterback.
ANALYSIS
Driskel won't count against Washington's gameday roster limit but will be eligible to play if Jayden Daniels or Marcus Mariota suffer an injury Sunday. Driskel has appeared in only one game this season, playing one snap during the Commanders' 21-18 win over the Giants in Week 2.
Nov 14, 2024
Emergency QB for Week 11
Drisker (coach's decision) is inactive for Thursday night's game against Philadelphia, but he will serve as Washington's emergency third quarterback, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
As the emergency quarterback, Driskel will only see the field if starter Jayden Daniels and backup Marcus Mariota were both to be knocked out of Thursday's game due to injury. Driskel hasn't taken a snap on offense since Week 2 against the Giants.
Nov 3, 2024
Serving as emergency No. 3 QB again
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's Week 9 matchup versus the Giants but will be available as Washington's emergency third quarterback, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
It will be the third straight week that Driskel serves as Washington's emergency No. 3 QB. The veteran signal-caller can enter Sunday's contest against New York only if Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota are ruled out due to injury, illness or ejection.
Oct 27, 2024
Emergency QB for Week 8
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against Chicago, but he will serve as Washington's emergency quarterback, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
As the emergency quarterback, Driskel will not be eligible to see the field Sunday unless starter Jayden Daniels and backup Marcus Mariota were both injured.
Oct 20, 2024
Emergency quarterback for Week 7
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Panthers, but he will serve as the emergency quarterback.
ANALYSIS
Driskel will be the Commanders' emergency quarterback Sunday, meaning he will only see the field if starter Jayden Daniels and backup Marcus Mariota are both injured.
Oct 6, 2024
Emergency option
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive Sunday against the Browns, but he'll dress as the team's emergency No. 3 quarterback.
ANALYSIS
Driskel will dress despite technically being inactive. However, he'll only be able to enter the game if Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota get injured.
Apr 1, 2024
Joining Washington's QB corps
The Commanders have signed Driskel.
ANALYSIS
Driskel, who has appeared in 24 regular-season contests (including 12 starts) during his NFL career, last saw game action in Week 18 with the Browns when he drew a spot start in place of Joe Flacco, who the team elected to rest ahead of the 2023 postseason. With the Commanders, Driskel adds depth to a QB corps that also includes Marcus Mariota along with Jake Fromm, and will quite likely be rounded out by a first-round rookie later this month.
Jan 13, 2024
Serving as No. 3 QB
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive for Saturday's game against the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Despite offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt's comments Wednesday about Driskel serving as the Browns' top backup in their wild-card matchup, he'll be the team's emergency third QB. PJ Walker is active and will backup Joe Flacco on Saturday.
Jan 10, 2024
Will be backup Saturday
Driskel will be the Browns' backup quarterback for Saturday's game at Houston, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel had an uninspiring performance in Sunday's 31-14 loss at Cincinnati, recording just 166 passing yards, but he apparently has shown enough to get the nod for the primary backup job over PJ Walker. Joe Flacco has played relatively well as of late, so it would likely take him getting hurt for Driskel to see the field in the wild-card round.
Jan 7, 2024
Throws two late TDs in spot start
Driskel completed 13 of 26 passes for 166 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Bengals. He added 33 yards on seven rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Driskel struggled in his spot start with Joe Flacco resting, as his two interceptions helped the Bengals build a 31-0 lead. The journeyman quarterback salvaged his stat line with fourth-quarter touchdowns of 31 yards and 24 yards to David Bell. Flacco will start in the wild-card round against the Texans, and while the backup job was up in the air between Driskel and PJ Walker heading into the regular-season finale, Driskel likely lost that competition with Sunday's poor performance.
Jan 3, 2024
Set to start Sunday
Driskel will start Sunday's game against the Bengals, Jake Trotter of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Given that the Browns are locked into the No. 5 playoff seed in the AFC, veteran starter Joe Flacco is slated to be rested in Week 18. As a result, Driskel will get the nod in Sunday's regular-season finale and will be backed up by PJ Walker. Driskel thus represents a fantasy lineup option for those scrambling for Week 18 QB help or who are inclined to take a chance on him in DFS formats this weekend.
Dec 29, 2023
Signs with Browns
The Browns signed Driskel to their active roster from the Cardinals' practice squad Friday, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
ANALYSIS
With Deshaun Watson (shoulder) and Dorian Thompson-Robinson (hip) both likely out for the rest of the season, Cleveland saw fit to add some depth at quarterback ahead of the postseason. Over twenty passes with Houston last year, Driskel averaged a dismal 5.4 yards per attempt.
Nov 6, 2023
Reverts to practice squad
Driskel reverted to Arizona's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Driskel took a back seat to rookie fifth-rounder Clayton Tune in Week 9 at Cleveland. With Kyler Murray (knee) on track to return in Week 10, it's not clear if Driskel has any more elevations in his immediate future.
Nov 4, 2023
Elevated from practice squad
The Cardinals have elevated Driskel from their practice squad ahead of Sunday's game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Driskel will be available Sunday to back up Clayton Tune, who is slated to start at QB for Arizona in Week 9, with Kyler Murray still on the PUP list. Driskel last saw regular-season action with the Texans during the 2022 campaign.
Oct 31, 2023
Re-joins Cardinals' practice squad
The Cardinals signed Driskel to their practice squad Tuesday, Howard Balzer of GoPHNX.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was originally let go from the team's practice squad on Oct. 20, but has re-joined the taxi squad after the Cardinals traded Joshua Dobbs to the Vikings on Tuesday. With Kyler Murray (knee) close to returning, Driskel will fill in as the emergency QB behind Murray and Clayton Tune.
Oct 20, 2023
Parts ways with Arizona
Driskel was cut from the Cardinals' practice squad Friday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran quarterback missed Arizona's 53-man roster and was released in late August, but he ended up signing with the team's practice squad just one day later. Driskel has thrown 2,228 yards, 14 touchdowns and eight interceptions throughout his four-year career. The 30-year-old was cut in order to make room for running back Tony Jones.
Aug 29, 2023
Getting let go
Driskel will be released by the Cardinals on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel's exit will leave Joshua Dobbs, Clayton Tune and David Blough as the healthy quarterbacks on the team's roster. Wilson speculates that the veteran could return to the team next week though, according to a league source.
Aug 19, 2023
Not playing Saturday
Driskel (calf) isn't in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Chiefs, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Kyler Murray still on the active/PUP list due to his recovery from a torn right ACL, the Cardinals will roll with Colt McCoy, Clayton Tune and David Blough under center in their second exhibition. Meanwhile, Driskel also won't be available due to a strained calf that he sustained prior to the team's first preseason contest. As a result, he'll have just one more chance for game action this month (Saturday, Aug. 26 at Minnesota).
Aug 12, 2023
Nursing calf injury
Driskel was not available for the Cardinals in Friday's preseason opening 18-17 victory over the Broncos due to a strained calf, Howard Balzer of GoPHNX.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel signed with the Cardinals during the offseason, which made them his fifth team in six years. He is invovled in one of the more interesting training camp competitions we have seen before, as he is competing against Colt McCoy, Clayton Tune and David Blough for the opportunity to start under center until Kyler Murray (knee) is ready to return. The race is seemingly wide open, so it would be advantageous for him to have a speedy recovery.
Apr 14, 2023
Heading to Arizona
Driskel has agreed to a one-year deal with the Cardinals, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
The Cardinals will mark Driskel's fifth team in six years since entering the league in 2018. He saw his heaviest workload in Cincinnati during his rookie campaign, when he recorded 1,003 yards, six toudchdowns, and two interceptions across nine games. The journeyman suited up seven times this past season in Houston, and was part of a quarterback share with Davis Mills over the final five games. Starting quarterback Kyler Murray (knee) tore his ACL on Dec. 12 this past year and remains without an estimated return date. Thus, Driskel is expected to compete with Colt McCoy (undisclosed) and David Blough for the starting role under center when the season kicks off.
Jan 14, 2023
Decreased usage in finale
Driskel completed two of two passes for 13 yards and had three carries for seven yards in a 32-31 win over the Colts in Week 18.
ANALYSIS
Driskel, who was part of a quarterback share with Davis Mills over the final five games, had his fewest amount of snaps (six) in the season finale. The gimmick worked as a surprise factor the first week but was less effective in the following weeks. He heads to free agency after completing 14 of 20 passes for 108 yards and a touchdown. Driskel also ran the ball 20 times for 75 yards. The Texans used him in the backfield and at tight end during his two seasons in Houston, and that position versatility could be attractive.
Jan 2, 2023
Still part of gameplan
Driskel completed three of four passes for nine yards and ran twice for seven yards in Sunday's 31-3 loss to the Jaguars in Week 17.
ANALYSIS
Offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton continued to work the two-quarterback system with Driskel and Davis Mills, which yielded good results Week 14 when the Texans nearly upset the Cowboys, but the surprise factor waned in successive weeks. As Jacksonville built a 28-0 lead, Houston averaged 2.1 yards per play with Driskel under center compared to 4.9 yards with Mills, per Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle. Neither Driskel nor Mills were effective, and it appears the organization will be looking for a quarterback in the draft.
Dec 26, 2022
Still in mix at QB
Driskel completed three of four passes for 40 yards, gained two yards on two carries and caught his lone target for four yards in Saturday's 19-14 win over the Titans.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was once again in the mix at quarterback and sometimes in a two-quarterback system along with Davis Mills. Offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton ditched the even split between the two that was deployed two weeks ago against Dallas, but Driskel continues to spot in at times to keep defenses guessing.
Dec 18, 2022
Cedes most work to Mills
Driskel completed two of four passes for eight yards and rushed four times for eight yards in the Texans' 30-24 overtime loss to the Chiefs on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Driskel once again worked in conjunction with Davis Mills at quarterback, but the latter put up 24 pass attempts to Driskel's four. The versatile signal-caller appears likely to continue to cede the majority of passing work to Mills in a Week 16 road battle versus the Titans on Saturday afternoon.
Dec 13, 2022
Signed to active roster
The Texans have elevated Driskel to their 53-man roster, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This marks the fourth and final time the Texans can promote Driskel from their practice squad, which means he has earned a permanent spot on their active roster. He split snaps (33) with David Mills in the team's 27-24 loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. He was primarily used as a rushing threat, recording seven carries for 36 yards. The 29-year-old also threw for 48 yards and a touchdown on 4-of-6 passing. It remains to be seen how head coach Lovie Smith will handle his quarterback situation going forward, but Driskel could be in line for a similar role as this past week.
Dec 12, 2022
Shifts back to practice squad
Driskel reverted to Houston's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was activated from the practice squad for the third time this season Week 14. After being used sparingly as a third-down rusher in the first two games of the season, the 29-year-old played the exact same number of snaps (33) as quarterback Davis Mills, as Kyle Allen was ruled a healthy scratch. Driskel continued to play a role as a rushing threat with seven carries for 36 yards while also going 4-for-6 passing for 38 yards. This included a 28-yard touchdown connection to wide receiver Amari Rodgers. With Driskel no longer eligible to be activated from the practice squad this season, he'll now require a permanent spot on the active roster to continue suiting up for Houston. According to Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle, coach Lovie Smith indicated that he's currently unsure if the team will carry three quarterbacks or not moving forward, though he did say the team can't let its roster restrictions "stop us from fielding our best 48 players this week." Therefore, it's possible Driskel could play a
Dec 12, 2022
Splits snaps with Mills
Driskel completed four of six passes for 38 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-23 loss to the Cowboys in Week 14. He added 36 rushing yards on seven carries.
ANALYSIS
The Texans split the playing time between starter Davis Mills and Driskel, each on the field for 33 snaps. The plan caught Dallas off guard and worked... until it didn't. Houston offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton sent Driskel on the field for THE key drive of the game. The Texans, up by three late in the fourth quarter, got a turnover and took over at the Cowboys' four-yard line with a chance to go up by two scores but didn't have Dameon Pierce (ankle) available. A three-yard pass completion and two Rex Burkhead carries lost yards preceded what appeared to be Driskel turning the wrong way on 4th-and-goal, and the Cowboys stopped him from scoring. While the drive will be the topic of post-game debate, it overshadowed what had been been Houston's most productive offensive showing in four games.
Dec 10, 2022
Activated from practice squad
Houston elevated Driskel to the active roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's contest versus Dallas.
ANALYSIS
Driskel has not seen any action since being elevated from the Texans' practice squad for the first two games of the season. While the 6-foot-4 quarterback never attempted a pass over these appearances, he did tally two carries for 15 yards as short-yardage dual-threat while playing five offensive snaps. It's likely that Driskel could see similar usage Week 14 behind Davis Mills, who was restored to a starting role after being benched for Kyle Allen ahead of Week 13's loss to the Browns.
Sep 24, 2022
Won't play at Chicago
Houston won't elevate Driskel from its practice squad for Week 3, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
It was previously reported by ProFootballNetwork.com's Aaron Wilson that the Texans were expected to elevate Driskel from their practice squad for Sunday's game at the Bears, but they'll instead roll with just starter Davis Mills and backup Kyle Allen. Driskel is eligible to be elevated from the practice squad one more time this season before he would need to be signed to the team's active roster in order to play.
Sep 24, 2022
Will be active Sunday
Houston elevated Driskel from its practice squad Friday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
ANALYSIS
It will be the third consecutive week Driskel is active for the Texans and the last time he's eligible to be elevated from the practice squad before he would have to be added to the team's active roster in order to suit up. He's played just four snaps through two weeks this year.
Sep 19, 2022
Returns to practice squad
Driskel reverted to the Texans' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was elevated to the Texans' active roster for a second consecutive week ahead of Sunday's loss to the Broncos, and he played just three of the team's 63 offensive snaps while recording one carry for 10 yards. He'll head back to the practice squad following the game, but it's possible that he rejoins the active roster at some point.
Sep 19, 2022
Plays three snaps
Driskel had one carry for 10 yards in Sunday's 16-9 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
For the second straight week, Driskel was on the active roster ahead of Kyle Allen. He played three snaps and had a 10-yard run on a 3rd-and-1 situation. It's unclear if starter Davis Mills were injured, would the Texans have Driskel to start a game over Allen. Driskel has been used mostly on third downs and hasn't attempted a pass yet.
Sep 17, 2022
Elevated to active roster again
The Texans elevated Driskel from their practice squad to the active roster for Sunday's game against the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
Driskel has been elevated to the active roster for each of the first two games of 2022. During the season opener, he got onto the field for two plays and carried the ball once for five yards. The 2016 sixth-round pick can be elevated three times on gamedays before needing to be signed to the active roster. Kyle Allen was inactive for Week 1 after Driskel was elevated, but it's unclear if that'll be the case again in Week 2.
Sep 12, 2022
Reverts to practice squd
Driskel reverted to the Texans' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was expected to be Houston's No. 3 quarterback, but he suited up ahead of Kyle Allen against the Colts on Sunday. The veteran quarterback saw the field two times in third-and-short situations, and he carried the ball once for five yards.
Sep 12, 2022
Active for Week 1
Driskel was active for Week 1 against Indianapolis, getting on the field for two plays and carrying the ball once for five yards in a 20-20 tie.
ANALYSIS
In a slightly surprising move, Driskel was activated over Kyle Allen. As a quarterback that's been used in a variety of situations by the Texans, he presents a dual threat to a defense and was on the field for a couple of third-and-short situations. His lone carry produced a first down. It's unclear if his activation was a stratagem specifically designed for the Colts or a permanent shift on the quarterback depth chart. Driskel is currently on the practice squad and can only be elevated three times for gameday, unless he's signed to the active roster.
Sep 10, 2022
Bumps to active roster
The Texans elevated Driskel to the active roster Saturday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
ANALYSIS
This move may be a contingency in the event one of the Texans' top two quarterbacks Davis Mills or Kyle Allen suffers an injury during pregame warmups for Week 1 against the Colts. A decision on Driskel's availability, or lack thereof, will come about 90 minutes before Sunday's 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff.
Aug 31, 2022
Added to Texans' practice squad
The Texans signed Driskel to their practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was released by Houston as part of the team's final roster cuts but will return to the organization via the practice squad. It's possible that the veteran joins an active roster this year if a team needs a backup quarterback.
Aug 30, 2022
Released by Texans
Driskel was released by the Texans on Tuesday, Brooks Kubena of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel operated as the Texans' primary backup option to Davis Mills this preseason, but he will ultimately be a casualty of Tuesday's final cuts. The quarterback has proven to be an NFL-caliber backup option and will likely get another opportunity in the near future.
Aug 14, 2022
Leads 10 drives
Driskel completed 16-of-26 passes for 165 yards, two touchdowns with three interceptions in Saturday's 17-13 preseason win over New Orleans. He added three carries for 17 yards.
ANALYSIS
Starter Davis Mills played two series -- both were quick three-and-outs -- and backup Kyle Allen (illness) was not available, which afforded Driskel three-plus quarters. It was a mixed bag for the third-stringer, who was the beneficiary of three Houston takeaways but also turned it over three times himself. Asked about Driskel's performance following the game, Houston head coach Lovie Smith reaffirmed the quarterback depth chart as Mills, Allen then Driskel.
Aug 13, 2022
In line for heavy work Saturday
Driskel will play a majority of Saturday's preseason opener against the Saints after the Texans announced Kyle Allen (illness) will not be available, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Allen normally runs with the second-team offense, but he did not participate in Thursday's evening practice session and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. Davis Mills will play the first two series of the game, and Driskel will handle the rest of the contest.
Mar 11, 2022
Remains with Texans
Driskel signed a one-year contract extension with Houston on Friday, Aaron Wilson of ProFootballNetwork.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel finished 2021 on injured reserve after suffering a fractured collarbone in December, and he appeared in only one game during the campaign. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the 28-year-old will shift back to quarterback after seeing action at tight end late last season.
Jan 12, 2022
Back from COVID list, still on IR
Driskel (collarbone) was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was placed on the COVID list Thursday, missing about a week before returning to injured reserve Wednesday. The tight end will remain on IR going into the 2022 offseason where he will become a free agent.
Jan 6, 2022
Lands on COVID-19 list
The Texans placed Driskel (undisclosed/collarbone) on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was already ruled out for the remainder of the season when he was placed on injured reserve with a fractured collarbone in late December. However, he'll now be forced to isolate from the team prior to resuming his recovery.
Dec 22, 2021
Goes on injured reserve
Driskel (collarbone) was placed on IR on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Driskel suffered a fracture collarbone in the Texans' Week 15 game with the Jaguars. It was the former quarterback's debut playing the tight end position. He only played 10 snaps on special teams before suffering the injury. Now out for the rest of the season, Driskel will spend the offseason getting healthy and most likely tightening up his skills as a tight end.
Dec 21, 2021
Suffers fractured collarbone
Driskel sustained a fractured collarbone against the Jaguars on Sunday and is expected to be doubtful for Week 16.
ANALYSIS
Driskel has only logged snaps at special teams this season and will likely continue to do so when he returns to the field. Expect the 28-year-old to continue to see a minimal role for the remainder of the season.
Dec 20, 2021
Serves on special teams
Driskel was active as a tight end and played 10 snaps on special teams in Sunday's 30-16 win over Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Driskel, a quarterback that's added tight end to his resume, was active as a tight end for the second straight week. He did not get into last week's game against Seattle but made his non-quarterback debut against Jacksonville on Sunday.
Nov 20, 2021
Working out at tight end
Driskel is transitioning to tight end, Aaron Reiss of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Houston tight ends coach Andy Bischoff described Driskel as "a rare athlete," who could also contribute on special teams, but the coach added this is a developmental process. That means it's unlikely Driskel will be an active tight end in the short term if at all this season. The organization does not consider him a quarterback for the Texans at this time, per conversations between Bischoff, head coach David Culley and general manger Nick Caserio.
Oct 16, 2021
Signed to active roster
The Texans signed Driskel to their active roster Saturday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was elevated from the practice squad for each of the last three games but hasn't yet made his season debut. He'll continue to serve as the backup to Davis Mills while Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) is on injured reserve.
Oct 9, 2021
Elevated to active roster
Driskel was elevated from the Texans' practice squad Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Driskel will assume backup duties for the Texans for a third straight contest while Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) remains sidelined. The 2016 sixth-rounder hasn't taken any snaps across the last two weeks.
Oct 4, 2021
Reverts to practice squad
Driskel reverted to the Texans' practice squad Monday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel joined the active roster for each of the last two games to serve as the backup to rookie QB Davis Mills, but he'll return to the active roster following the Week 4 loss. The 28-year-old will be eligible to be elevated once again for Sunday's contest against the Patriots.
Oct 2, 2021
Set for backup duties
Driskel was elevated from the practice squad Saturday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel will once again take over the backup duties behind Davis Mills with Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) sidelined. This is the second call up for Driskel meaning the team will need to make a decision regarding his status on the active roster next week.
Sep 24, 2021
Reverts to practice squad
Driskel reverted to the Texans' practice squad Friday.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was elevated from Houston's practice squad to serve as depth at quarterback with Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) sidelined Thursday. Although he didn't appear in Thursday's loss to the Panthers, he'll be an option to rejoin the active roster while Taylor remains on injured reserve.

Added to active roster
Driskel has been officially elevated to the Texans' active roster from the team's practice squad.
ANALYSIS
With Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) on IR and Deshaun Watson (not injury-related) set to be inactive, rookie QB Davis Mills is slated to start Thursday night's game against the Panthers. Meanwhile, Driskel will serve as the team's No. 2 signal caller for the contest.

Likely to be promoted
Driskel is expected to be promoted to the Texans' active roster Thursday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Tyrod Taylor (hamstring) has been ruled out for Thursday's contest against the Panthers. In his absence, rookie third-round pick Davis Mills is expected to draw his first career start. Driskel, who has nine career starts, is expected to be promoted and to serve as the backup behind Mills during Week 3.

Rejoins Houston
Driskel was signed to Houston's practice squad Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was with the Texans during the preseason and was a camp casualty Tuesday before rejoining the team Wednesday. Houston's quarterback situation may eventually change, but starting Week 1, Tyrod Taylor is expected to start with third-round pick Davis Mills backing him up. Meanwhile Deshaun Watson made the 53-man roster, but he's not expected to suit up Sundays.

Fails to make 53-man roster
Driskel was cut by the Texans on Monday, independent NFL journalist Aaron Wilson reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel wasn't expected to make the roster with expected starter Tyrod Taylor and rookie third-round pick Davis Mills on the team in addition to Deshaun Watson, who could reportedly be a healthy scratch all year. The 28-year-old quarterback has played in 15 games (nine starts) over the last three seasons, completing 59 percent of his passes for 2,120 yards (6.1 YPA), 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also ran for 309 yards and three scores. Driskel may serve as practice-squad depth for the Texans.

Lands in Houston
The Texans signed Driskel to a one-year contract worth up to $2.5 on Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel has a $1 million base salary with numerous potential bonuses and incentives. Given the murky situation surrounding Deshaun Watson's future with the Texans, Driskel's landing spot is more intriguing for fantasy purposes than had he secured a normal backup gig. Behind Watson, it's conceivable that Driskel could compete with both Tyrod Taylor and Davis Mills for reps, while Ryan Finley now appears to be the odd man out in Houston's quarterback room.

Could sign with Dallas
Driskel will meet with the Cowboys on Friday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
If the 28-year-old signs with the Cowboys, he would likely slot in as the No. 2 quarterback behind Dak Prescott (ankle). Driskel has played for three different teams in his three-year NFL career since making his debut for the Bengals in 2018, posting a 13:8 TD:INT, 58.6 percent completion rate and 6.1 YPA in 15 games.

Ousted from QB room
The Broncos released Driskel on Monday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel threw three touchdowns and two interceptions in three appearances (one start) for the Broncos last season. Per Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com, his release saves the team $2.5 million in cap space. Drew Lock, Teddy Bridgewater and Brett Rypien remain under contract for Denver.

Finishes 2020 with three touchdowns
Driskel completed 35 of 64 passes for 432 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions during the 2020 season. He added 28 yards on six carries.
ANALYSIS
Driskel filled in admirably for Drew Lock after the latter injured his shoulder in Week 2 against Pittsburgh, nearly leading the comeback. A ho-hum outing in Week 3 against Tampa Bay pushed him down the depth chart and he didn't record a touch after a carry in Week 4. Driskel actually finished with a team-high quarterback rating of 78.4, but that does not quite provide the veteran stability Denver needs with youngsters Lock and Brett Rypien on the roster. The Broncos would have a net savings of $2.5 million against the cap should they move on from Driskel, and that seems likely as the team figures to look for a more established hedge on its bet on Lock.

Back from COVID-19 list
The Broncos activated Driskel off the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was placed on the list Nov. 29 after testing positive for the virus. His positive test forced the rest of the quarterback room in Denver onto the list as close contacts, ultimately leading to practice-squad receiver Kendall Hinton taking the reigns at quarterback. With Driskel back healthy, it's likely he'll take over the No. 2 job behind Drew Lock for Saturday's game against the Bills.
Nov 29, 2020
Positive for COVID-19
Driskel's placement on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday was the result of a positive COVID-19 test, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
At the time Driskel was placed on the list, it wasn't immediately clear whether he tested positive himself or was considered a close contact of someone who did. After the Broncos confirmed Driskel was infected, fellow quarterbacks Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles were added to the list Saturday, when all three were pulled off the practice field and told to self-isolate since they were discovered to have not worn masks at one point during contact with Driskel in recent days. With the NFL opting not to postpone Sunday's Broncos-Saints game, Denver will be without its top four quarterbacks, forcing the team to turn to practice squad receiver Kendall Hinton -- who previously played quarterback early in his college career at Wake Forest -- as its starter under center. As of Sunday, Lock, Rypien and Bortles continued to test negative for COVID-19 and should be activated by Tuesday, but Driskel looks poised to remain out through the Broncos' Week 13 game in Kansas City while he's still infected.

Headed to COVID list
Driskel will be placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
According to coach Vic Fangio, the Broncos have been cleared to practice Thursday, and Sunday's contest versus New Orleans does not appear to be at risk. Driskel will need to clear the league's COVID protocols before resuming team activities, but that isn't likely to impact the team's offense much as the quarterback is third on the team's depth chart and hasn't taken a snap since Week 4.
Oct 18, 2020
Healthy scratch Sunday
Driskel (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game versus the Patriots, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel struggled in his lone start against Tampa Bay this year, completing 17 of 30 passes for 176 yards, a touchdown and an interception, while Brett Rypien showed a bit of promise in his Week 4 win over the Jets. With Drew Lock (shoulder) returning to the lineup, Rypien will serve as the backup while Driskel watches the game in street clothes.
Sep 29, 2020
Move to backup role confirmed
Denver head coach Vic Fangio named Brett Rypien the starting quarterback for Thursday's game against the Jets, leaving Driskel in line to fill a backup role, Aric DiLalla of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Starting Week 3 in place of an injured Drew Lock (shoulder), Driskel struggled to move the offense in a 28-10 loss to the Buccaneers, completing 17 of 30 attempts for 176 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Midway through the the fourth quarter, Fangio pulled Driskel in favor of Rypien, who completed eight straight passes before throwing a fourth-down interception on Denver's final possession of the day. The Broncos were satisfied enough with how Rypien performed prior to the turnover, so he'll get the keys to the offense over Driskel in Week 4. Since Lock remains out and the newly signed Blake Bortles hasn't had much time to get familiar with Denver's playbook, Driskel is still likely to serve as the No. 2 option behind Rypien.
Sep 29, 2020
Likely returning to backup role
Driskel will likely serve in a backup role Thursday against the Jets, as the Broncos are expected to name Brett Rypien as their starting quarterback for the Week 4 matchup, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Head coach Vic Fangio likely won't announce a Week 4 starter until later Tuesday or at some point Wednesday, but Driskel's run atop Denver's depth chart looks like it will come to an end after one game. Filling in Week 3 for an injured Drew Lock (shoulder), Driskel completed 17 of 30 attempts for 176 yards, a touchdown and an interception in Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Buccaneers before giving way to Rypien in the fourth quarter. Though he was only under center for one possession, Rypien moved the offense well, completing his first eight pass attempts for 59 yards before tossing a red-zone interception on fourth down. Assuming Rypien is indeed named the team's new starter, Driskel could still serve as the No. 2 option Thursday, as Lock remains sidelined and the recently signed Blake Bortles may need more time to get up to speed with Denver's playbook.
Sep 28, 2020
Starter for Thursday still TBD
Vic Fangio said Monday that he has yet to decide whether Driskel or Brett Rypien will start in New York on Thursday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was benched during the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers, and he only had 176 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception before leaving the field. Brett Rypien wasn't much more effective in relief of Driskel, as his only drive ended in a red-zone interception. Whomever of Driskel or Rypien gets the nod Thursday will get the benefit of a more favorable matchup against the Jets' secondary, and Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports that Blake Bortles isn't in consideration to start.
Sep 27, 2020
Benched in loss
Driskel was benched in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 28-10 loss to the Buccaneers, and coach Vic Fangio said in the post-game that he replaced Driskel with Brett Rypien "to see if he could get rid of the ball quicker", Mike Klis of 9News reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel completed 17 of 30 passes for 176 yards, one touchdown and one interception before being replaced. Rypien completed his first eight passes to lead the team down the field before throwing a red-zone interception. Both quarterbacks averaged 5.9 yards per pass, and Fangio refused to name a starter for Thursday's Week 4 game against the Jets, though the team won't have much time to deliberate given the quick turnaround.
Sep 21, 2020
May start multiple weeks
Driskel is slated to start against the Buccaneers in Week 3 and as long as Drew Lock (shoulder) remains sidelined, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel looks set to start at least Denver's next two contests, against the Buccaneers and the Jets, after which point Lock will be re-evaluated. The nature of Lock's rotator/labral injury puts him at risk of missing up to six weeks, so Driskel could see the opportunity to make a number of starts. The journeyman signal-caller performed well in relief of Lock against Pittsburg's vaunted defense on Sunday, when he completed 18 of 34 pass attempts for 256 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, but he'll have to manage without top wideout Courtland Sutton (knee) going forward.
Sep 20, 2020
Plays respectably after Lock injury
Driskel completed 18 of 34 pass attempts for 256 yards, two touchdowns and one interception during Sunday's 26-21 loss to the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was summoned into action early on as Drew Lock (shoulder) left with an injury and managed a respectable average of 7.5 yards per attempt against a stout defense. He completed touchdown passes to Noah Fant and Melvin Gordon as he helped his team hang tough in a difficult road matchup, though his interception in the second quarter helped Pittsburgh build a lead. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Lock is expected to be out 2-6 weeks with an AC injury, meaning Driskel should get the nod in next Sunday's home matchup with the Buccaneers.

Gets two-year deal in Denver
Driskel (hamstring) agreed to a two-year, $5 million contract with the Broncos on Wednesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel showcased upside as a more than competent backup across three games in Detroit last season, and he'll now hold down the fort behind Drew Lock in Denver. The move leaves the future of veteran signal caller-caller Joe Flacco (neck) with the Broncos a lingering question mark.
Mar 17, 2020
Heading to Denver
Driskel is expected to sign with the Broncos, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Driskel will become the new backup for Drew Lock in Denver, leaving Joe Flacco's status with the team in question. Driskel played in three contests for the Lions last season before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury. He compiled 685 passing yards with a 59.0 passing percentage, to go along with four touchdowns and four interceptions. Look for more updates on his hamstring injury to come when he officially joins his new team for offseason activities.

Garnering Week 11 start
Driskel is in line to make a second consecutive start Sunday against the Cowboys after coach Matt Patricia announced that Matt Stafford (back) has been ruled out for the contest, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Stafford was unable to practice all week due to fractures in his back, making it not especially surprising that he'll miss another game. The Lions didn't hesitate to have Driskel air it out in their Week 10 loss to the Bears, but the signal-caller generally struggled to shepherd the offense, completing only 27 of 46 attempts for 269 yards (5.8 YPA), one touchdown and one interception while rushing five times for 37 yards. Driskel will get another tough assignment this weekend, taking on Dallas' seventh-ranked pass defense.
Nov 10, 2019
Officially starting Week 10
Driskel will start Sunday's Week 10 matchup against the Bears with Matthew Stafford (back) inactive for the contest.
ANALYSIS
This merely confirms what was already reported earlier this morning once Stafford was announced as out with multiple back fractures. Driskel brings nine games of NFL experience from his 2018 campaign with the Bengals, a stint during which he posted 1,003 passing yards and a 6:2 TD:INT while also rushing for 130 yards and a pair of scores. While Driskel showed some upside last season and will have a formidable receiver duo in Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones to work with, a last-minute call to action against the Bears at Soldier Field figures to be a tough assignment.
Nov 10, 2019
In line to start Sunday
With Matthew Stafford (back) not expected to play Sunday against the Bears, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Driskel is in line to start at QB for the Lions in Week 10.
ANALYSIS
He'll be backed up by David Blough on Sunday. While Driskel -- who started five games for the Bengals last season -- doesn't posses Stafford's fantasy upside, the 26-year-old is at least an option for those scrambling for a QB fill-in on on bye-heavy week.
Sep 11, 2019
Waived from IR
The Bengals waived Driskel (hamstring) with an injury settlement.
ANALYSIS
Driskel was on injured reserve, and he'll be free to sign with a new team once healthy.
