Replaces Mayfield after injury
Bridgewater completed eight of 15 passes for 62 yards in Sunday's 34-7 loss to the Rams.
ANALYSIS
Baker Mayfield (shoulder) suffered a left shoulder injury on the play immediately prior to halftime and did not return to the game. Bridgewater replaced him under center and had his most extensive run of playing time this season. Given the nature of the game -- Tampa Bay was in the midst of a blowout loss -- he wasn't asked to do much, though he picked up over half of his yards on a 32-yard completion to Emeka Egbuka on a deep pass early in the fourth quarter. Bridgewater could start in Week 13 against Arizona, as Mayfield is set to undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury.
Oct 24, 2025
Ready to rock
Bridgewater (teeth) has no injury designation ahead of Sunday's matchup against the Saints, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Although Bridgewater missed the Buccaneers' first two practices this week, he was a full go Friday, indicating that he's ready to play in Sunday's contest. Now fully healthy, the 2014 first-round pick is expected to operate as Tampa Bay's No. 2 quarterback in the Week 8 divisional matchup.
Oct 23, 2025
Misses Thursday's practice
Bridgewater (teeth) did not participate in Thursday's practice.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater has missed the first two practices of the week, so Friday's injury report will provide clarity on whether he serves as Baker Mayfield's backup against the Saints on Sunday. Connor Bazelak is the lone quarterback on the practice squad, so he would likely be elevated to the active roster for Week 8 if Bridgewater is unable to play.
Oct 22, 2025
Doesn't practice Wednesday
Bridgewater (teeth) did not participate in Wednesday's walkthrough practice, Brianna Dix of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was able to serve as the Buccaneers' backup QB for Monday's loss against the Lions after overcoming an illness, but he popped up on Wednesday's report with a new injury. He'll have two more chances to return to practice ahead of Sunday's NFC South tilt against the Saints.
Oct 20, 2025
Active for MNF
Bridgewater (illness) is active for Monday night's game against the Lions.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was under the weather this past week but is good to go as Bake Mayfield's backup for Bridgewater's return to Detroit.
Oct 18, 2025
Under the weather
Bridgewater is listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Lions due to an illness, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
The illness is a new issue for the veteran quarterback, and it prevented him from participating in Saturday's practice. He'll have some time to recover, but the Buccaneers could elevate Connor Bazelak from the practice squad ahead of Monday's game against Detroit. Bridgewater has not played a single snap during the regular season while operating as Baker Mayfield's backup.
Aug 25, 2025
Set to back up Mayfield
Bridgewater is line to serve as Baker Mayfield's top backup ahead of Week 1, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Fowler, the Buccaneers plan to move on from Kyle Trask, who is dealing with a shoulder issue and is slated to be let go with an injury designation. Fowler notes that in such a scenario, Trask would then revert to IR and subsequently look to reach an injury settlement with the team, which would allow him to sign elsewhere once healthy. Bridgewater last saw regular-season action in 2023, with the Lions.
Aug 23, 2025
Out due to illness
Bridgewater won't play in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills due to an illness, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With No. 1 QB Baker Mayfield set to sit out in Tampa Bay's exhibition finale, Kyle Trask was expected to start, while Bridgewater was in line to enter the contest after him. Now that Bridgewater isn't available Saturday, Connor Bazelak will be tasked with handling any reps under center that don't go to Trask. Bridgewater put some decent tape together last Saturday versus the Steelers, completing six of 11 passes for 85 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions after signing with the team on Aug. 5.
Aug 20, 2025
QB2 for preseason finale
Bridgewater will serve as the Bucs' backup quarterback in Saturday's preseason game against the Bills, Rock Riley of the Tampa Free Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater looked good as the starter in the Bucs' preseason game against the Steelers this past Saturday, when he led two scoring drives and completed six of 11 passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Kyle Trask will serve as the starter in this Saturday's preseason finale, and his and Bridgewater's performance in that game will play a large part in head coach Todd Bowles' decision of who will serve as Baker Mayfield's backup for the 2025 season.
Aug 17, 2025
Leads two scoring drivers
Bridgewater completed six of 11 passes for 85 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Saturday's 17-14 preseason win over the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater drew the start with Baker Mayfield resting and led three drives, with the latter two resulting in scores. He connected with Bucky Irving and Emeka Egbuka in the end zone on throws of 15 and five yards, respectively. Bridgeater also delivered accurate passes for gains of 27 and 18 yards to Sterling Shepard and Jalen McMillan in what was a successful return to an NFL field. Overall, Bridgewater outplayed incumbent backup Kyle Trask, setting up an interesting battle for Week 1.
Aug 13, 2025
May play second preseason game
Bridgewater was featured more prominently in Wednesday's quarterback rotation, and how he performs in a joint practice with the Steelers on Thursday will determine whether he plays in Saturday's preseason contest, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran signal-caller didn't play in the preseason opener against the Titans on Saturday after just having signed a contract earlier in the week. Bridgewater has been gradually getting acclimated to coordinator Josh Grizzard's offense, and he impressed head coach Todd Bowles in Wednesday's session with his increasing grasp of the system. When asked about Bridgewater's potential participation in Saturday's second preseason game against the Steelers, Bowles stated he wanted "to see how much work he can get in" in reference to Thursday's joint practice before making a decision.
Aug 5, 2025
Officially inks with Bucs
Tampa Bay signed Bridgewater to a one-year contract Tuesday, Greg Auman of Fox Sports reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater will spend training camp and the preseason picking up the Buccaneers' offensive scheme and competing with Kyle Trask for the No. 2 quarterback role behind starter Baker Mayfield, missed a couple days due to a hand contusion but retook the field Tuesday. The 32-year-old came out of retirement last December to join Detroit's playoff push, but he didn't see any regular-season action with the team and played just three snaps during the NFC divisional round loss to Washington.
Aug 5, 2025
Expected to sign with Buccaneers
Bridgewater is visiting Tampa Bay on Tuesday and is expected to sign a contract with the team, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater, who ranks among the most proven backup quarterbacks in the league at this stage of his career, retired prior to the 2024 season but returned to sign a one-year deal with the Lions late December. He didn't ultimately log any regular-season stats in 2024, while mostly working as the emergency option behind Jared Goff and Hendon Hooker, but Bridgewater assumed the No. 2 role during Detroit's loss to Washington in the NFC divisional round and played three snaps. If he indeed inks with the Buccaneers, Bridgewater will be primed to compete with Kyle Trask for the No. 2 gig behind Baker Mayfield.
Jan 26, 2025
No impact with Lions in 2024
Bridgewater did not log any stats with the Lions during the 2024 regular season.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater retired from football ahead of the 2024 campaign, only to return to Detroit on a one-year deal in late December to serve as a backup option to starter Jared Goff. Bridgewater did not appear in a regular-season contest before logging three snaps in the team's loss to the Commanders in the NFC divisional round. It's unclear where the quarterback's interests lie in terms of his playing career, but Bridgewater will enter the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.
Jan 18, 2025
Backup for divisional round
Bridgewater is active as the backup quarterback for Saturday's divisional-round game against the Commanders, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater signed with the Lions on Dec. 26 and has operated as the emergency third quarterback in two games since. He'll be officially active for the first time this season and is set to serve as Jared Goff's backup.
Jan 5, 2025
Operating as emergency QB
Bridgewater (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday night's contest against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater will operate as the team's emergency quarterback for the second straight week as Hendon Hooker will slot in as Jared Goff's direct backup versus Minnesota. Bridgewater will only enter the game if both Goff and Hooker are ruled out with injuries.
Dec 30, 2024
Emergency QB for Week 17
Bridgewater (coach's decision) is inactive for Monday night's game against San Francisco.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater came out of retirement and signed with the Lions' active roster this past Thursday. Hendon Hooker will remain as the backup quarterback to Jared Goff on Monday while Bridgewater serves as the emergency quarterback. That means Bridgewater would only be allowed to see the field if both Goff and Hooker were to be taken out of the game due to injury, illness or ejection.
Dec 26, 2024
Joins active roster
The Lions signed Bridgewater to the active roster Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater officially has ended his retirement and will return to the organization that employed him last season. His last extended playing time occurred during the 2022 season, when he made five appearances, including two starts, for the Dolphins, and he hasn't been a regular starter since 2021 as a member of the Broncos. After leading his alma mater to a football state title in Florida this fall, Bridgewater now will be in the mix with Hendon Hooker at QB in Detroit behind No. 1 option Jared Goff.
Dec 26, 2024
Set to end retirement, rejoin Lions
Bridgewater plans to end his retirement and is expected to sign with the Lions, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater spent the 2023 campaign as the top backup to Jared Goff, but the Lions could stash him on the practice squad initially as he rejoins the organization with two weeks left in the regular season. After announcing his retirement following Detroit's run to the NFC Championship Game last January, Bridgewater has spent the past year as a high school head coach at his alma mater, whom he led to a Florida state title. In the midst of his coaching, Bridgewater has apparently kept himself in playing shape, and the 32-year-old signal-caller is now ready to resume his playing career while rejoining Detroit for the stretch run. If Bridgewater is eventually added to the Lions' 53-man roster, it's unclear if he would step back in as the No. 2 quarterback behind Goff, or if he would slot third on the depth chart behind second-year signal-caller Hendon Hooker.
Dec 17, 2024
Could be looking to return to NFL
Bridgewater said Tuesday that he might look to sign with an NFL team over the next few weeks, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was a first-round draft pick by Minnesota in 2014 and played for six different NFL teams before announcing his retirement last season. He moved on to coaching his high school alma mater, Miami (Florida) Northwestern, and concluded a successful season in that role this past Saturday when the team won the Division 3A Florida High School Athletic Association state title game. When asked Tuesday if Bridgewater has a team lined up to join upon retiring, he stated, "Right now, I'm enjoying this state championship," per Grant Gordon of NFL.com, so it's unclear how concrete his plans for a return are. If Bridgewater does make a comeback, it would likely be in a backup role, as he started only twice over six game appearances across his final two professional seasons in 2022 and 2023.
Dec 17, 2023
Plans to retire after season
Bridgewater said Saturday in an interview with Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press that he plans to retire after the 2023 season.
ANALYSIS
After joining Detroit on a one-year, $3 million deal this offseason, Bridgewater has seen light usage behind starting quarterback Jared Goff. The 31-year-old's lone appearance of the season came back in Week 5, when he took three snaps and made two kneeldowns at the tail end of a win over Carolina. Barring Goff missing time due to injury over the final three games or getting rested in Week 18 if the Lions' playoff spot is solidified, Bridgewater looks as though he may have already seen the last of his extended NFL action. Since entering the league as a first-round pick of the Vikings in 2014, Bridgewater has completed 66.4 percent of his passes for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns and 47 interceptions while adding 844 yards and 11 scores on the ground across 79 career games with Minnesota, New Orleans, Carolina, Denver, Miami and Detroit.
Aug 25, 2023
Shines in preseason finale
Bridgewater completed 13 of 22 passes for 178 yards and a touchdown in Friday's preseason game against Carolina.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater's second preseason appearance went much better than his first, including a TD drive on the second series of the game when Carolina still had some starters in. The Lions rested all their starters and some key backups, but that didn't stop Bridgewater from producing 20 points on six drives while playing the entire first half. The highlight was a 70-yard TD pass to Antoine Green, threaded between three defenders, with the Lions seemingly seeing what they needed to confirm Bridgewater as their No. 2 QB for the season opener in Kansas City on Sept. 7.
Aug 19, 2023
Shaky in Lions debut
Bridgewater completed five of his 11 pass attempts for 34 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in Saturday's 25-7 preseason loss to the Jaguars.
ANALYSIS
Jared Goff sat out the game, leaving Bridgewater with the start. He led six offensive possessions but couldn't move the ball much while leading zero scoring drives. It was a lackluster debut for Bridgwater in Detroit, but he'll remain one of the better backup options around the league in 2023.
Aug 19, 2023
Gets Saturday start
Bridgewater is slated to start Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site, coach Dan Campbell noted this week that he didn't plan on playing the team's starters, so Bridgewater will have an opportunity to solidify his standing behind top QB Jared Goff, with Nate Sudfeld and Adrian Martinez on hand to follow Bridgewater on Saturday.
Aug 7, 2023
Joins up with Detroit
The Lions and Bridgewater agreed to terms of a contract Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Behind Detroit's starting quarterback Jared Goff, there previously wasn't much experience on the depth chart between six-year pro Nate Sudfeld, 2023 third-round pick Hendon Hooker (knee) and rookie UDFA Adrian Martinez. Bridgewater himself has 65 starts for five different teams in his career, including two for the Dolphins last year. In five appearances overall in 2022, he completed 49 of 79 passes (62 percent) for 683 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. Bridgewater will slot in as Goff's top backup moving forward.
Jan 20, 2023
Ends season as backup
Bridgewater completed 49of 79 pass attempts for 683 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions across five appearances with the Dolphins in 2022. He also carried the ball three times for 27 yards.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater served as the backup to rookie Skylar Thompson during the Dolphins' final game, a wild-card playoff loss against the Bills, as a dislocated pinky on his throwing hand continued to hamper him. The 30-year-old veteran was mediocre in limited action during his one-year contract with Miami, though he did battle injuries, so it remains to be seen whether the team will be interested in re-signing him during free agency. Bridgewater only saw significant action in five contests during the 2022 season, but the Dolphins lost each of those games.
Jan 15, 2023
Suits up Sunday
Bridgewater (finger/knee) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater approached the Dolphins' postseason opener listed as questionable after practicing in a limited fashion this past week as he continues to work his way back from a dislocated pinkie issue on his throwing hand. While Bridgewater is in uniform against Buffalo on Sunday, he's slated to back up Skylar Thompson, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Meanwhile Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) -- who last saw game action in Week 16 -- is still sidelined.
Jan 15, 2023
Expected to suit up as backup
Bridgewater (finger/knee) is expected to be active for Sunday's playoff opener against the Bills, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The signal-caller, who continues to work his way back from a dislocated pinkie issue on his throwing hand, is listed as questionable for the contest after practicing in a limited fashion this week, but Schefter relays that Bridgewater is in line to back up Skylar Thompson on Sunday, with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) still out. Official confirmation of Bridgewater's availability will arrive when the Dolphins' inactives are posted ahead of the team's 1:00 ET kickoff.
Jan 13, 2023
Listed as questionable for Sunday
Bridgewater (finger/knee) is listed as questionable for Sunday's playoff game against the Bills after practicing in a limited fashion this week, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN relays via coach Mike McDaniel that Bridgewater has been working to make himself available to handle a backup role in Sunday's 1:00 ET contest. In any case, with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) still out, Skylar Thompson will will draw the start at QB for the Dolphins in the team's postseason opener versus Buffalo, with Bridgewater still working his way back from a dislocated pinkie on his throwing hand.
Jan 13, 2023
Optimism he can back up Sunday
The Dolphins are optimistic that Bridgewater (finger/knee) will be available in a backup role for Sunday's playoff game in Buffalo, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Skylar Thompson has been named the starter and Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) has been ruled out, but Bridgewater's status is still up in the air. Bridgewater has had trouble gripping the ball and throwing with power since dislocating the pinkie in his throwing hand in Week 17 against the Patriots. A final decision on his availability may not be made until close to Sunday's 1:00 p.m. EST kickoff against the Bills.
Jan 12, 2023
Remains limited at practice
Bridgewater (finger/knee) remained limited at practice Thursday.
ANALYSIS
While Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's wild-card round game against the Bills, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN relayed Wednesday via coach Mike McDaniel that the Dolphins were preparing for Skylar Thompson to draw the start at QB for the team this weekend, with Bridgewater still working his way back from a dislocated pinkie on his throwing hand. Look for added details regarding Bridgewater's status to arrive Friday, but chances are he'll end up being officially listed as questionable by Miami.
Jan 11, 2023
Logs limited practice Wednesday
Bridgewater (knee/right finger) was limited at practice Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was limited at practice last week before suiting up for Sunday's win over Jets in a backup capacity behind Week 18 starter Skylar Thompson. Per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN, coach Mike McDaniel indicated Wednesday that at this stage the Dolphins are preparing for Thompson (who practiced fully Wednesday) to draw another start in this weekend's playoff opener against the Bills, with Bridgewater still working his way back from a dislocated pinkie finger on his throwing hand as well as a knee issue, and Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) already ruled out.
Jan 11, 2023
Working to be available vs. Bills
Coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that Bridgewater (finger/knee) is uncertain for Sunday's wild card playoff round against the Bills and that Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) is ruled out, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was able to suit up for Week 18's win over the Jets, but due to his health, he was limited to a backup role behind Skylar Thompson (undisclosed). With Tagovailoa out and Thompson having looked limited against New York, the Dolphins may prefer to turn to the experienced veteran, but it remains to be seen whether Bridgewater's health will permit him to start without issue Sunday. McDaniel said as of Wednesday the team is preparing as though Thompson will start Sunday, and that Bridgewater won't be "able to get many reps, if any," per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. Unless Bridgewater is able to quickly resume handling full practice sessions, Thompson could be the likeliest option to start Sunday's playoff game.
Jan 9, 2023
Return to full practice TBD
Coach Mike McDaniel noted Monday that he's not sure if Bridgewater (knee/finger) is ready to practice in full at this stage, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, McDaniel did suggest Monday that he believes Bridgewater may have been in a position to have entered this past Sunday's game against the Jets if Week 18 starter Skylar Thompson had been forced to exit the contest. Considering that, Bridgewater appears to be trending in the right direction as this weekend's playoff opener against the Bills approaches, while that status of Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) -- who has not yet been cleared for football activity -- remains unclear.
Jan 8, 2023
Active, but won't start
Bridgewater (finger/knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Jets.
ANALYSIS
While starting in place of Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) in last week's loss to the Patriots, Bridgewater exited early with a dislocated right pinky finger. Because of that injury along with a lingering knee issue, Bridgewater never managed anything more than limited participation in practices Wednesday through Friday, prompting head coach Mike McDaniel to name third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson the Week 18 starter with Tagovailoa still sidelined. McDaniel noted, however, that Bridgewater progressed from the dislocated finger faster than anticipated, so he'll at least get the opportunity to dress and could even play if Thompson struggles or exits early with an injury more serious than Bridgewater's. The Dolphins also brought up another quarterback (Mike Glennon) from the practice squad and are making him active Sunday, so it's unclear if Glennon or Bridgewater will represent Thompson's direct backup.
Jan 6, 2023
Questionable, could be No. 2 QB
The Dolphins list Bridgewater (finger/knee) as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Bridgewater appears on the Dolphins' Week 18 injury report with two health concerns, it's his dislocated right pinky finger that will be preventing him from picking up a second straight start this weekend, even though Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) remains sidelined. Because Bridgewater was unable to advance beyond limited participation in practice this week, head coach Mike McDaniel announced Friday that third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson will direct the offense Sunday with a playoff spot on the line. According to Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, McDaniel said Bridgewater may still be active as Thompson's backup after making "unbelievable" progress throughout the week, but the veteran signal-caller's status won't be confirmed one way or the other until Miami releases its inactive list 90 minutes before Sunday's 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
Jan 6, 2023
Will be backup if active
Bridgewater (finger) has a shot to be active Sunday against the Jets, but it would be in a backup role, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Mike McDaniel announced that Skylar Thompson will start, and Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) has been ruled out, but Bridgewater's status remains murky. Bridgewater has reportedly made substantial progress in his recovery, but he clearly isn't 100 percent healthy, as a healthy Bridgewater would almost certainly have gotten the starting nod over Thompson for this must-win game.
Jan 5, 2023
Remains limited in practice
Bridgewater (finger/knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Bridgewater's limited listing doesn't represent any change from Wednesday, observers during the media-access portion of Thursday's session suggested the quarterback was able to do more than he did a day ago. Most notably, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post relays that Bridgewater was throwing the football significantly farther than he did Wednesday, indicating that the veteran signal-caller is still in play for the starting assignment Sunday against the Jets with head coach Mike McDaniel having all but ruled Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) from returning to the lineup Week 18. The Dolphins will likely wait until after Friday's practice to decide whether Bridgwater or rookie Skylar Thompson will get the starting nod this weekend.
Jan 4, 2023
Listed as limited
Bridgewater (finger) was a limited practice participant Wednesday, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
While he technically did enough to be listed as limited, Bridgewater's dislocated finger reportedly prevented him from throwing, which meant Skylar Thompson led the first-team offense in practice. With Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) considered unlikely to play, Bridgewater could end up starting Sunday's must-win game against the Jets if his injured hand improves by the end of the week.
Jan 4, 2023
Status hinges on gripping ability
Bridgewater, who was diagnosed with a dislocated right pinky finger after exiting last week's 23-21 loss to the Patriots, hasn't been ruled out from starting Sunday's regular-season finale with the Jets, though his playing status will depend on whether he can grip the ball well enough to comfortably and accurately throw the football, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dolphins are proceeding with Bridgewater and Skylar Thompson as the team's options at quarterback this week with a playoff spot at stake, as head coach Mike McDaniel has already dismissed the possibility of Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) starting Sunday even if the signal-caller clears the five-step protocol before the weekend. When healthy, Bridgewater has worked ahead of Thompson, but before being handed another starting nod, Bridgewater will need to prove during practices Wednesday through Friday that his finger injury isn't an issue. If Bridgewater fails to make enough progress as the week rolls along and isn't fit to start or dress as Thompson's backup, the Dolphins will likely elevate recent practice-squad signee Mike Glennon to step in as the understudy to Thompson.
Jan 2, 2023
Diagnosed with dislocated pinky
Head coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Bridgewater has a dislocated pinky, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
McDaniel added that there'll be more clarity on the quarterback's status Wednesday, but the coach did say he was preparing as if Bridgewater and Skylar Thompson would be his top options heading into the regular season finale, suggesting Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) will be sidelined for a second straight game. Fantasy mangers will likely have to monitor Bridgewater's status closely during Week 18 prep, but a decision on who'll start against the Jets may not come until Sunday.
Jan 1, 2023
Broken finger likely
Bridgewater likely sustained a broken finger on his right hand during Sunday's loss at Miami, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With Tua Tagovailoa out indefinitely due to a concussion, Bridgewater got the start at quarterback for the Dolphins on Sunday, completing 12 of 19 passes for 161 yards, one touchdown and one interception while gaining six yards on his only carry before his exit in the second half. It's unclear if Bridgewater will be able to play through the injury, but Skylar Thompson is on hand in the event the former joins Tagovailoa on the sideline.
Jan 1, 2023
Hurts finger Sunday
Bridgewater was forced out of Sunday's game against the Patriots with a right finger injury.
ANALYSIS
Before exiting the contest, Bridgewater completed 12 of 19 pass attempts for 161 yards with a TD and a pick. In his absence, Skylar Thompson is in at quarterback for the Dolphins, with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) inactive Sunday.
Dec 30, 2022
Set to start versus Patriots
With Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) out Sunday against the Patriots, Bridgewater will draw the start at QB for the Dolphins in Week 17, Marcel Louis-Jacques ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The report indicates that Tagovailoa continues to progress through concussion protocol, but he'll be out this week, at a minimum, with coach Mike McDaniel noting that Tagovailoa will continue to be evaluated on a "day-to-day basis." This Sunday, Bridgewater will be facing a New England defense that is allowing an average of 213.1 passing yards per game to date, but working in his favor from a fantasy perspective is that he'll have a pair of explosive wideouts (Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle) to throw to, while the Patriots are dealing with some injury issues in their secondary.
Dec 28, 2022
In line to start Sunday
With Tua Tagovailoa having been diagnosed with a concussion, coach Mike McDaniel noted Wednesday that the Dolphins are planning to start Bridgewater in Sunday's game against Patriots, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Tagovailoa was also in the NFL's concussion protocol after the Dolphins' Week 4 contest against the Bengals and went on to miss two games before returning to action in Week 7. In that context, the team will proceed cautiously with Tagovailoa and will prepare Bridgewater -- who last saw game action in Week 6 -- to start at QB versus New England this weekend.
Dec 26, 2022
Potential Week 17 starter
With Tua Tagovailoa in the NFL's concussion protocol, per David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel, look for Bridgewater to get the majority of the Dolphins' first-team QB snaps at practice Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Meanwhile, coach Mike McDaniel noted Monday that it's too soon to name the Dolphins' starting QB for this weekend's game against the Patriots, but at this stage it looks like Bridgewater could draw the assignment. The veteran signal-caller had been dealing with a knee injury, but Bridgewater was in uniform this past Sunday as Tagovailoa's backup.
Dec 21, 2022
Full participant Wednesday
Bridgewater (knee) was a full participant during Wednesday's practice, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater hasn't been active for a game since suffering a knee injury during Miami's Week 6 loss to Minnesota, when he was filling in for an injured Tua Tagovailoa. However, Bridgewater appears to have moved past the issue and should reclaim his top backup spot for Miami's Christmas Day matchup against Green Bay. If Bridgewater is indeed available, Skylar Thompson figures to be demoted to third string and will likely be deemed inactive for Week 16.
Dec 17, 2022
Won't suit up Saturday
Bridgewater (knee) is inactive for Saturday's matchup against the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater hasn't suited up since suffering a knee injury during Miami's Week 6 loss to Minnesota. In his absence, Skylar Thompson will presumably continue operating as the primary backup behind Tua Tagovailoa.
Dec 13, 2022
Still limited on practice estimate
Bridgewater (knee) was listed as a limited participant on Tuesday's practice estimate, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater remains limited on Miami's injury report with a knee issue, as he hasn't been made available since he started and suffered the injury Week 6 against Minnesota. If the veteran quarterback is eventually unable to gain medical clearance for an eigth consecutive matchup, then rookie Skylar Thompson would serve as Tua Tagovailoa's primary backup this weekend in Buffalo.
Dec 11, 2022
Inactive for SNF
Bridgewater (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater will be unable to suit up for a seventh consecutive game due to a knee injury. Skylar Thompson will continue to serve as the primary backup behind Tua Tagovailoa.
Dec 9, 2022
Considered questionable
Bridgewater (knee) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the Chargers, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater has been inactive for six straight games due to a knee injury and remained limited throughout Week 14 prep, which suggests he'll miss a seventh consecutive contest. If that's the case, Skylar Thompson would continue serving as the primary backup behind Tua Tagovailoa.
Dec 7, 2022
Remains limited
Bridgewater (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater once again practiced in a limited fashion Wednesday while tending to a knee issue. The veteran quarterback hasn't been available for each of the Dolphins' last six contests, and rookie Skylar Thompson has thus served as Tua Tagovailoa's primary backup in that stretch. Bridgewater will have two more opportunities to ramp back up to full speed before the team will be forced to make a decision on his weekend availability.
Dec 4, 2022
Won't suit up again
Bridgewater (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the 49ers.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater is now slated to miss his sixth consecutive contest as a result of the knee injury he sustained back in Week 6 against the Vikings. Rookie Skylar Thompson is in line to serve as Tua Tagovailoa's primary backup quarterback this weekend in San Fransisco.
Dec 2, 2022
Considered questionable again
Bridgewater (knee) is questionable for Sunday's matchup against the 49ers, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was limited throughout Week 13 prep due to a knee injury that's sidelined him for five consecutive contests. The backup quarterback is once again listed as questionable, but if he remains out for a sixth straight game, Skylar Thompson would presumably continue to operate as the top backup behind Tua Tagovailoa.
Nov 30, 2022
Limited at practice Wednesday
Bridgewater (knee) was a limited participant at practice Wednesday ahead of Sunday's game at San Francisco, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater has been held out of five consecutive games with a knee injury, but his participation at practice signals that he may be nearing a return from his extended absence. Were the veteran signal caller to miss Week 13 at the 49ers though, rookie seventh-rounder Skylar Thompson would once again be set to serve as Tua Tagovailoa's primary backup.
Nov 27, 2022
Held out again
Bridgewater (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Texans.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater is slated to miss his fifth consecutive contest as a result of a knee injury, though he likely wouldn't have seen much action as long as starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa remains healthy. Rookie Skylar Thompson will now serve as the primary backup signal caller in Week 12.
Nov 25, 2022
Availability up in the air Week 12
Bridgewater (knee) is considered questionable to play Sunday against the Texans, Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was sidelined with a knee injury during the Dolphins' Week 9 win over the Browns, and he remained a limited participant in practice coming off the team's Week 11 bye. With the veteran's status still uncertain Friday, rookie Skylar Thompson could be set to step in as Miami's No. 2 quarterback behind Tua Tagovailoa in Week 12.
Nov 23, 2022
Limited at practice Wednesday
Bridgewater (knee) logged a limited practice session Wednesday, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was been battling a knee injury for the past two weeks, and he was inactive for the Dolphins' Week 10 contest against Cleveland prior to their Week 11 bye. He appears to still be struggling with the issue, though his ability to practice in a limited capacity Wednesday suggests he could be available against Houston on Sunday. Should he be unable to go, Skylar Thompson would be in line to be the primary backup behind Tua Tagovailoa.
Nov 13, 2022
Inactive Sunday
Bridgewater (knee) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Bridgewater's knee flared up this week and the Dolphins have elected to play it safe with their No. 2 QB, which sets the stage for Skylar Thompson to back up Tua Tagovailoa on Sunday. Bridgewater will now target a return to the mix in Week 12 versus the Texans, following Miami's Week 11 bye.
Nov 13, 2022
Not available for backup duties
Bridgewater (knee), who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns, is expected to be inactive this week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was a limited participant in Friday's practice after a chronic knee issue flared up on him, and while the injury isn't considered a serious one, the Dolphins are inclined to err on the side of caution with the veteran signal-caller by keeping him out this week. Rookie seventh-round pick Skylar Thompson will likely step in for Bridgewater as the backup to starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Nov 11, 2022
Questionable to play Sunday
Bridgewater (knee) was a limited participant during practice Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater unexpectedly popped up on Miami's injury report Friday, though it's unclear when or how this knee issue first arose. The veteran signal-caller was previously sidelined with a concussion and also dealt with a pectoral injury that kept him limited up until Week 6, leaving rookie Skylar Thompson to step in for injured starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for two games. If Bridgewater's game status does not improve heading into Sunday, then Thompson should slot in as the Dolphins' No. 2 quarterback against Cleveland on Sunday.
Oct 16, 2022
300-yard effort in emergency duty
Bridgewater entered Sunday's loss to the Vikings for an injured Skylar Thompson (thumb) with 11:38 remaining in the second quarter and completed 23 of 34 passes for 329 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed once for 10 yards.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater found himself in a similar scenario as when he entered the Week 4 loss to the Bengals for Tua Tagovailoa, and he was even more impressive Sunday while putting the Dolphins in position to at least attempt an onside kick with more than a minute remaining and down by eight. Both of Bridgewater's touchdown passes went to an unlikely target in tight end Mike Gesicki, but he displayed outstanding chemistry with the elite wideout duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle as well. Bridgewater has unquestionably demonstrated his value as an insurance policy, but he's slated to remain in the No. 2 role in Week 7 against the Steelers next Sunday night with Tagovailoa slated to return to action after clearing concussion protocol Saturday.
Oct 15, 2022
Deemed healthy, still backing up
Bridgewater is no longer listed as questionable for Sunday's matchup, but the veteran quarterback is still expected to back up Skylar Thompson, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
This makes sense considering the Dolphins earlier Saturday announced Bridgewater and Tua Tagovailoa had both cleared their respective concussion protocols. Given neither were able to practice much this week, the former is expected to be the backup to the rookie Thompson while the latter will be held out until next week's primetime matchup against the Steelers. Bridgewater also injured his pec in last week's contest, but the injury is not believed to be serious.
Oct 15, 2022
Clears protocols, status uncertain
Bridgewater cleared concussion protocols Saturday, but the veteran is still expected to back up rookie Skylar Thompson on Sunday against the Vikings, Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater also reportedly injured his pec, but the injury is deemed to be minor. The veteran missed most of practice this week going through the various stages of concussion protocol, which appears to be the reason the Dolphins are opting to start Thompson, who was unimpressive in the loss against the Jets last week. Expect the Dolphins to officially announce the backup plan prior to the 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff Sunday.
Oct 14, 2022
Questionable for Week 6
The Dolphins list Bridgewater as questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings due to his placement in the concussion protocol in addition to a right pectoral injury.
ANALYSIS
Though Bridgewater passed all concussion tests after exiting in the first quarter of last week's loss to the Jets, the league's recently revised policy for addressing head injuries resulted in the veteran quarterback's placement in the protocol. He wasn't able to resume practicing fully until Friday, as he was a limited participant Wednesday and Thursday before taking every rep in the Dolphins' final Week 6 practice. The pec injury isn't believed to be a concern for Bridgewater and the expectation is that he'll formally exit the concussion protocol before Sunday's game, but because he didn't practice fully this week, the Dolphins aren't likely to ask him to serve as anything more than a backup. Rookie Skylar Thompson is on track to make his first NFL start Sunday while Bridgewater likely serve as the No. 2 option both this weekend and for the foreseeable future, as top signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) also practiced fully Friday and tentatively looks on pace to end his two-game absence from the lineu
Oct 13, 2022
Takes step forward in protocol
Bridgewater (concussion) will be on the field for limited, non-contact participation at Thursday's practice, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was present for Wednesday's practice, but he didn't take part in any on-field work and was instead limited to light aerobic activities off to the side. His ability to mix into non-contact drills suggests he's advanced to either the third or fourth phase of the NFL's five-step concussion protocol. Head coach Mike McDaniel has already ruled out the possibility of Bridgewater starting a second consecutive game this weekend against the Vikings even though top quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) won't play, but if he's able to put in a full practice Friday, Bridgewater could be cleared to serve as rookie Skylar Thompson's backup Sunday.
Oct 12, 2022
To be backup if cleared
Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said Wednesday that Bridgewater will handle backup duties behind Skylar Thompson if he can clear the concussion protocol in time to suit up Sunday against the Vikings, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.
ANALYSIS
The Dolphins will proceed through practice this week with the plan of Thompson starting Sunday, with Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) having already been ruled out for a second game in a row and Bridgewater not yet cleared to resume practicing. Per Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com, McDaniel said Bridgewater will be in attendance for Wednesday's practice, but he won't be partaking in any football activities and will instead do only light aerobic work. Bridgewater appears to be in the second phase of the five-step concussion protocol, and since he's unlikely to be a full participant by the end of the week, the Dolphins won't be comfortable starting him Sunday without the benefit of regular practice reps in advance of the game.
Oct 9, 2022
In concussion protocol
Bridgewater is in the NFL's concussion protocol after exiting Sunday's 40-17 loss to the Jets, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Bridgewater subsequently passed his concussion evaluation and doesn't have concussion symptoms at this stage, per Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network, under the league's revised policy on handling head injuries and/or concussions, the QB was deemed a "no-go" to return to Sunday's contest based on the judgement of the booth ATC spotter (independent certified athletic trainer) and was replaced by Skylar Thompson. Bridgewater, who was starting in place of Tua Tagovailoa, who is also in the concussion protocol and without a return timetable, will now look to gain clearance to play ahead of next Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Oct 9, 2022
Won't return Sunday
Bridgewater (elbow/head) won't return to Sunday's game against the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Per Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Bridgewater being held out for the remainder of Sunday's contest is related to the NFL's new concussion protocol, though there are reports that the QB was able to pass his initial concussion tests. In his absence, Skylar Thompson is handling Miami's signal-caller duties against the Jets.
Oct 9, 2022
Departs Sunday's game
Bridgewater suffered an elbow injury and is under evaluation for a concussion during Sunday's game at the Jets.
ANALYSIS
On the play in which Bridgewater was called for intentional grounding while getting taken to the ground by Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner in his own end zone, the quarterback visited the sideline tent before making his way to the locker room. Per Daniel Oyefusi of the Miami Herald, Bridgewater was accompanied by an unaffiliated neurotrauma consultant, but it remains to be seen if he'll be ruled out. Rookie seventh-round pick Skylar Thompson took over under center with Tua Tagovailoa already in the concussion protocol.
Oct 3, 2022
Set for Week 5 start
Coach Mike McDaniel confirmed Monday that Bridgewater will start in place of Tua Tagovailoa (concussion) versus the Jets in Week 5, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater will fill in for Tagovailoa for at least Week 5, though it remains to be seen whether he'll end up seeing a longer stretch of relief duty. The veteran game manager completed 14 of 23 passes for 193 yards with one touchdown and one interception after taking over in the second quarter of Thursday's loss to the Bengals, and versus a suspect Jets secondary he could be a legitimate fantasy option in multi-QB formats. Skylar Thompson figures to handle backup duties while Tagovailoa remains sidelined.
Sep 30, 2022
Capable in emergency duty Thursday
Bridgewater entered Thursday night's 27-15 loss to the Bengals for an injured Tua Tagovailoa (head/neck) with 5:13 remaining in the second quarter and completed 14 of 23 passes for 193 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also rushed once for 11 yards.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater turned in the type of performance he was essentially brought to Miami for, using his experience to hit the ground running and immediately complete a 16-yard pass to Trent Sherfield that set the Dolphins up for a 52-yard field-goal attempt, which ultimately was blocked. Bridgewater then helmed a nine-play, 75-yard scoring march on his first full possession, capping it off with a seven-yard touchdown toss to Chase Edmonds. Bridgewater subsequently led another 88-play drive that culminated in a field goal and had the offense deep in Bengals territory late and down by only five before throwing an interception at the Cincinnati nine-yard line. Tagovailoa was feeling well enough after being evaluated at the hospital to travel home with the rest of the team per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, but it remains to be seen if Bridgewater will need to make a spot start in his stead in a Week 5 road matchup versus the Jets a week from Sunday.
Sep 26, 2022
Makes cameo before Tua's return
Bridgewater didn't complete either of his two pass attempts in Sunday's 21-19 win over the Bills.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater entered the game after Tua Tagovailoa suffered a back injury, but Tua returned to the game, pushing Bridgewater back to the bench. In addition to the pair of incompletions, Bridgewater also took a sack. Tagovailoa's likely to play Thursday against the Bengals, but Bridgewater would slot in under center if Tagovailoa suffers a setback.
Mar 29, 2022
Entrenched as backup
Coach Mike McDaniel described Bridgewater (concussion) as the Dolphins' "backup" quarterback during Monday's press conference at the NFL owners meetings, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater recently declined to discuss the role promised to him after signing with Miami, but McDaniel has now made absolutely clear that the plan moving forward is for the 29-year-old to enter Week 1 as the No. 2 option. McDaniel said the priority for Bridgewater and the coaching staff is "empowering Tua [Tagovailoa] to be the player he be can." Bridgewater, who missed the final four games of the 2021 season with a concussion, is one of the more accomplished and capable backups in the league, and he could certainly provide valuable mentorship for Tagovailoa, who is heading into a make-or-break Year 3 campaign.
Mar 14, 2022
Bound for South Florida
Bridgewater (concussion) agreed Monday with the Dolphins on a one-year contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Though Bridgewater won't get the chance to compete for a starting role for the Dolphins with the team having committed to Tua Tagovailoa as its top quarterback, the chance to return to his hometown of Miami was too enticing to pass up. Before he missed the final four games of the 2021 season with a concussion, Bridgewater started made 14 starts for the Broncos and completed 66.9 percent of his attempts for 3,052 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions while adding 106 yards and two scores on the ground. The 29-year-old's time as a full-time NFL starter may be over, but he'll profile as one of the more accomplished backup options in the league.
Jan 5, 2022
Lands on IR
Bridgewater (concussion) has been placed on IR, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
With the 7-9 Broncos eliminated from playoff contention, the move effectively ends Bridgewater's 2021 season. As a result, Drew Lock is in line to start Saturday's contest against Kansas City, provided he's able to play through a shoulder issue he picked up during Week 17 action.
Jan 4, 2022
Misses practice, likely out Week 18
Bridgewater (concussion) was listed as a non-participant on Tuesday's estimated practice report, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Though head coach Vic Fangio hasn't officially ruled Bridgewater out for Saturday's season finale against the Chiefs, the coach acknowledged that Drew Lock is in line to remain the team's starting quarterback Week 18. Unless Bridgewater takes a dramatic step forward over the next two days in his recovery from the concussion he suffered in the Broncos' Dec. 19 loss to the Bengals, he'll likely be listed as out in advance of the weekend. Bridgewater hasn't practiced in any capacity since sustaining the head injury, a sign he remains in one of the early stages of the NFL's five-step concussion protocol.
Jan 3, 2022
Remains in concussion protocol
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Bridgewater remains in the concussion protocol, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater has missed each of the last two games after sustaining a concussion in Week 15, and Drew Lock (shoulder) has served as the Broncos' starter since then. It's not yet clear whether Bridgewater will be cleared to return in time for Saturday's regular-season finale against Kansas City, but Lock will likely start once again if the 2014 first-rounder remains out.
Dec 31, 2021
Won't play Sunday
Bridgewater (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was unable to practice this past week, and now that he's been officially ruled out Drew Lock is slated to draw the Week 17 start at QB for the Broncos versus Los Angeles.
Dec 29, 2021
Not likely to play this week
Bridgewater (concussion) isn't practicing Wednesday and isn't expected to be ready for Sunday's game against the Chargers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
With Bridgewater absent from practice, as expected, Drew Lock continues to guide the first-string offense. The Broncos also made Lock available to the media Wednesday, a sign he's viewed as the likely starting QB for Week 17. The 25-year-old completed 15 of 22 passes for 153 yards in Sunday's 17-13 loss to Las Vegas, with no touchdowns or turnovers in a game where the Broncos took only 42 snaps on offense.
Dec 28, 2021
Still in concussion protocol
Bridgewater remains in the concussion protocol as of Monday, Ben Swanson of the Broncos' official site reports. "We really don't have an update as far as whether he'd be available or not this week," coach Vic Fangio said.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater picked up the concussion during a Week 15 loss to the Bengals when his face mask took the brunt of a fall into the ground while getting tackled. He was ruled out well ahead of this past Sunday's defeat at Las Vegas, and now it appears he may be in danger of missing another contest. As Fangio noted, Bridgewater's return is subject to an examination with an independent neurologist, but first he'll need to mix into drills before the end of the week. If Bridgewater ends up sitting Sunday at the Chargers, he'll hand over quarterback duties to Drew Lock for another spot start.
Dec 22, 2021
Ruled out this week
Bridgewater (concussion) won't play in Sunday's game against the Raiders but hasn't been ruled out beyond that, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
With Bridgewater ruled out, Drew Lock will make his fourth appearance and first start of the season, hoping to improve upon some ugly numbers in limited action (22 of 40 for 227 yards with one TD and two INTs). Broncos coach Vic Fangio confirmed that Bridgewater will still be the starter once he's healthy, though it isn't clear when that'll happen after a hard hit in Sunday's loss to Cincinnati sent the QB to concussion protocol.
Dec 20, 2021
Unlikely to play Sunday
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Bridgewater (concussion) is "highly unlikely" to play Sunday against the Raiders, George Stoia III of The Denver Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Although Fangio said that Bridgewater is doing "much better" Monday after he was carted off the field in Sunday's loss to the Bengals, it appears as though the quarterback will be forced to miss at least one game after landing in the concussion protocol. Assuming Bridgewater is held out against Las Vegas, Drew Lock is in line to start under center.
Dec 20, 2021
Placed in concussion protocol
Bridgewater, who was released from the hospital Monday, will be placed in the league's concussion protocol.
ANALYSIS
The Broncos' statement reads that Bridgewater is "doing well" one day after having been transported away from Sunday's loss to the Bengals in an ambulance. Bridgewater will now enter the league's five-step concussion protocol, which he will need to fully clear before retaking the field. Denver will doubtless take a cautious approach to Bridgewater's recovery, which could set the stage for Drew Lock to line up under center Week 16 in Las Vegas.
Dec 20, 2021
Slated to be released from hospital
Bridgewater (head) is expected to be released from the hospital Monday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was taken to the hospital via ambulance after he sustained a head injury in Sunday's loss to the Bengals, but he's now regained consciousness and has movement in all his extremities. He was kept overnight at the hospital as a precautionary measure but will be able to head home Monday. His status for Sunday's Week 16 matchup against the Raiders isn't yet clear, but Drew Lock will likely draw the start if Bridgewater is unavailable.
Dec 19, 2021
Evaluation results encouraging
Coach Vic Fangio said after Sunday's loss to the Broncos that everything has "checked out good" for Bridgewater (head) at the hospital, and Fangio believes the quarterback will be fine, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater will stay at the hospital overnight for observation, but it sounds like he avoided a major injury, which is great news after he was carted off with a head injury against the Bengals. Drew Lock threw a touchdown pass after replacing Bridgewater but failed to complete the comeback in the 15-10 loss. It's too early to say which quarterback will start against the Raiders in Week 16.
Dec 19, 2021
Taken to hospital for evaluation
Bridgewater (head) was taken to a Denver area hospital after he was carted off the field during the third quarter of Sunday's game versus the Bengals, Patrick Smyth of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
The decision is a precautionary measure after Bridgewater sustained a head injury at the end of a scramble that left him prone on the turf. Fortunately for the quarterback, he has movement in all his extremities. With Bridgewater out, Denver turned to Drew Lock to direct the offense.
Dec 19, 2021
Gets carted off field Sunday
Bridgewater (undisclosed) was carted off the field during the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Bengals, George Stoia III of The Denver Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
At the end of a scramble, Bridgewater tumbled face-mask first into the turf and didn't move for some time. The Broncos' medical staff carefully moved him onto his back, onto a backboard and eventually onto the cart immobilized. The nature and extent of the injury aren't yet known, but Drew Lock will take over for Bridgewater under center.
Dec 12, 2021
Not busy in big win
Bridgewater completed 18 of 25 passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 38-10 win over the Lions.
ANALYSIS
The Broncos had little trouble with the flu and COVID-ravaged visitors, which left Bridgewater without much to do while the backfield duo of Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams accounted for most of the team's scoring. The QB did salvage decent fantasy value in the second half, however, hitting Williams for a 10-yard score in the third quarter and Albert Okwuegbunam for a four-yard TD in the fourth. It's the first time Bridgewater has tossed multiple touchdowns since Week 7, giving him a bit of momentum heading into a Week 15 tilt against the Bengals.
Dec 6, 2021
Rough performance in loss
Bridgewater completed 22 of 40 pass attempts for 257 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions while adding 17 yards on four carries in Sunday's 22-9 loss to Kansas City.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was the latest to fall victim to the now defense-led Chiefs. The veteran signal-caller was able to finally top 250 passing yards for the first time since Week 6, averaging just 210.6 yards with six touchdowns and three picks over that six-game span. Bridgewater will look to take advantage of a matchup against Detroit in Week 14, who currently surrenders 21.7 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks.
Dec 1, 2021
To avoid injury report
Coach Vic Fangio said Bridgewater (shin) won't be listed on the Broncos' injury report Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater made a brief exit during Denver's Week 12 win against the Chargers due to a shin injury. He clarified what happened Wednesday, telling Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com that he landed on the back of tackle Cameron Fleming's cleat. Overall, Bridgwater fared modestly, per usual, completing 11 of 18 passes for 129 yards and one touchdown while scoring his second rushing TD of the campaign. Considering he'll avoid an injury designation entirely this week, he's good to go for Sunday's visit to Kansas City.
Nov 29, 2021
Feeling better Monday
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Bridgewater (shin) is feeling better, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater briefly exited Sunday's win over the Chargers but was able to play through a shin injury during the second half. While his workload will likely be monitored ahead of Sunday's Week 13 matchup against Kansas City, Fangio said that he isn't too concerned about the quarterback's status going forward.
Nov 28, 2021
Guts through shin injury Sunday
Coach Vic Fangio noted that Bridgewater played through a shin injury during the second half of Sunday's 28-13 win against the Chargers, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports. "He toughed it out," Fangio said. "He was nowhere near 100 percent."
ANALYSIS
It was an up-and-down performance from Bridgewater, who was forced from the contest on the Broncos' third possession. He yielded QB duties to Drew Lock for the rest of the first half, but Bridgewater was able to return after halftime and eventually finished 11-for-18 passing for 129 yards and one touchdown to go with two carries for 10 yards and another score. Bridgewater likely has maintenance in store for him during Week 13 prep, as his status will be monitored closely leading up to next Sunday's road matchup with the Chiefs.
Nov 28, 2021
Back in action
Bridgewater (lower leg) returned to action for the Broncos' first drive of the second half in Sunday's game against the Chargers, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater injured his leg in the first quarter of Sunday's contest and did not see any action in the second period, but he was able to make it back into the game after halftime.
Nov 28, 2021
Sustains lower-leg injury
Bridgewater was forced out of Sunday's game against the Chargers with a lower leg injury, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to his exit from the contest, Bridgewater had completed 6-of-10 pass attempts for 59 yards and ran once for an 11-yard TD. In his absence, Drew Lock has taken over at QB for the Broncos.
Nov 14, 2021
Does little in loss to Eagles
Bridgewater completed 22 of 36 passes for 226 yards in Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Eagles.
ANALYSIS
The Philadelphia secondary took away Denver's wide receivers for the most part, and while Bridgewater was able to gain some yards via his tight ends, that approach didn't put many points on the board. The QB has now failed to reach 250 yards in four straight games despite having Jerry Jeudy back in action for three of them, and the team will try to use its Week 11 bye to try and figure out how to boost the performance of its passing game.
Nov 7, 2021
Lights up Cowboys
Bridgewater completed 19 of 28 pass attempts for 249 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions in Sunday's 30-16 win over the Cowboys. He added three rushes for -1 yards and one touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater picked apart the Cowboys' defense and averaged 8.9 yards per attempt. The primary thing holding him back from a bigger performance was game script, as the Broncos played from ahead for the majority of the game and Bridgewater completed only three passes in the second half. Even so, he now has multiple total touchdowns in four of his last five games heading into a Week 10 matchup against Philadelphia.
Oct 31, 2021
Gets job done Sunday
Bridgewater completed 19 of 26 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 17-10 win over Washington.
ANALYSIS
He also gained one yard on his only carry. Bridgewater's numbers were disappointing given the defense he was facing, but he was efficient and avoided mistakes, with his 15-yard toss to Melvin Gordon late in the second quarter accounting for the game's only passing TD. Bridgewater will take a 13:5 TD:INT through eight starts into a Week 9 clash with the Cowboys.
Oct 21, 2021
Pair of touchdowns in loss
Bridgewater (foot/quadriceps) completed 23 of 33 passes for 187 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in the Broncos' 17-14 loss to the Browns on Thursday night. He also rushed twice for three yards.
ANALYSIS
Battling multiple lower-body injuries, Bridgewater turned in a reasonably effective effort, connecting with seven different pass catchers along the way. The veteran signal-caller hit each of his primary running backs on his pair of touchdown tosses, linking up with Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams from eight and 10 yards out, respectively, in the second half. Bridgewater did toss an interception for the third straight game, with all five of his picks on the season having come during that span. The battered 28-year-old will now have some extra rest days ahead of a Week 8 home matchup with Washington a week from Sunday.
Oct 21, 2021
Suiting up Thursday
Bridgewater (foot/quadriceps) is listed as active Thursday at Cleveland.
ANALYSIS
During the Week 6 loss to the Raiders, Bridgewater incurred 17 quarterback hits and five sacks, emerging from the contest with foot and quad injuries. The issues combined to limited his practice reps Monday through Wednesday, but despite it all he'll be out there for Denver's first offensive snap Thursday. The Broncos appear confident Bridgewater will be able to handle everything thrown his way with the decision to make reserve QB Brett Rypien inactive. As a result, the team has only dressed Bridgewater and backup Drew Lock.
Oct 21, 2021
Expected to start Thursday
Bridgewater (foot/quadriceps), who is listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Browns, is expected to start for the Broncos, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
While taking 17 hits (including five sacks) in Sunday's 34-24 loss to the Raiders, Bridgewater picked up a pair of injuries along the way. The left foot injury in particular appears to be the greater concern, but Palmer notes that Bridgewater has been moving around better as the week has progressed. Assuming Bridgewater checks out fine when he reports to the stadium Thursday, he should avoid the inactive list and direct the Denver offense Week 7. His status will be confirmed with the release of the Broncos' inactive list approximately 90 minutes prior to the 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff.
Oct 20, 2021
Questionable after limited session
Bridgewater (foot/quadricep) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice and is officially listed as questionable for Thursday's game against the Browns, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater logged a trio of limited practices this week and looks truly questionable for Thursday Night Football, though coach Vic Fangio did express optimism that the quarterback will gain clearance to suit up. However, Bridgewater himself was non-committal during Tuesday's media availability. In the event that Bridgewater is cleared to play ahead of Thursday's 8:20 p.m. EDT kickoff, he will take on a Browns team helmed by Case Keenum, and without top running backs Nick Chubb (calf) and Kareem Hunt (calf).

Gets in limited practice
Bridgewater (foot) was limited at Tuesday's walkthrough, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater relayed Tuesday that he injured his foot Sunday against the Raiders when he was stepped on during his late TD pass to tight end Noah Fant (foot), who like his quarterback has been limited on both Week 7 practice reports. There have also been mixed signals from the Broncos, as coach Vic Fangio told Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com that he expects Bridgewater to play Thursday at Cleveland, while the signal-caller himself was more muted. During media availability, Bridgewater was non-committal, instead saying, "Honestly, we're justing hitting it aggressively in the training room right now." Bridgewater will have one more chance to bump up to all activity Wednesday, at which point the Broncos could make a decision on his availability. Otherwise, the call likely won't be made until 90 minutes before Thursday's 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff.
Oct 19, 2021
Won't commit to starting Thursday
Bridgewater (foot) was unwilling to say he will start for certain Thursday against the Browns when asked Tuesday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater reportedly suffered his foot injury when he was stepped on throwing a touchdown pass to Noah Fant late in the fourth quarter. Per Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com, Bridgewater has a noticeable limp at this point, but coach Vic Fangio stated earlier in the day that he anticipates Bridgewater suiting up for the contest. If he does suit up, Bridgewater will be facing a Browns defense that sports 14 players on IR and another 13 on the injury report, so he should have a great matchup in store.
Oct 19, 2021
Expected to play Week 7
Coach Vic Fangio anticipates Bridgewater (foot) being able to play Thursday at Cleveland, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was listed as limited on Monday's practice estimate due to a foot injury, and he's likely to retain that activity level Tuesday after he was seen walking with a deliberate limp to the Broncos' indoor practice facility, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post. Fangio's subsequent comments indicate Bridgewater will be under center Thursday, assuming he gains clearance to suit up. And Bridgwater will be facing a MASH unit on the other side in the Browns, who have 13 players on IR and 13 others on their injury report.
Oct 18, 2021
Bothered by foot injury
Denver lists Bridgewater as a limited participant on Monday's estimated practice report with a foot issue, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater may not be 100 percent following Sunday's loss to the Raiders, but so long as he at least maintains limited listings on the Broncos' next two practice reports, he should be ready to go for a Thursday night matchup with the Browns in Week 7. The signal-caller benefited from a negative game script versus Las Vegas to produce one of his best lines of the season (35-for-49 for 334 yards and three touchdowns), though he committed four turnovers (three interceptions, one lost fumble) in the 34-24 loss.
Oct 17, 2021
Volume offsets turnovers
Bridgewater completed 35-of-49 pass attempts for 334 yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions against Las Vegas on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater of course deserves some blame for the three interceptions, but the strong Vegas pass rush made it difficult by sacking him five times, and that's before you bring up the outrageous 17 hits Bridgewater withstood in the contest. Bridgewater's numbers on the year are generally quite clean -- now at 10 touchdowns versus four interceptions -- so the Broncos should be willing to look past the pressure and turnover struggles from this game, especially since he stood tough and delivered the 334 yards and three touchdowns. Unfortunately for him and the Broncos offense, a road trip to Cleveland in Week 7 brings its own substantial pass rush concern with Myles Garrett waiting there.
Oct 10, 2021
Active for Sunday's game
Bridgewater (concussion) is listed as active for Sunday's game against the Steelers.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater, who was forced out of Week 4's loss to the Ravens, was able to clear the necessary medical hurdles in order to gain clearance to start Sunday's game against a Pittsburgh squad in the midst of a three-game losing streak. In the process, the veteran signal-caller -- who heads into Week 5 with a solid 72.1 percent completion percentage and a 5:0 TD/INT ratio -- will be working with a banged-up pass-catching corps, headed by wideouts Courtland Sutton (who's managing an ankle issue) and Tim Patrick, along with tight end Noah Fant. Meanwhile, WRs Jerry Jeudy (ankle) and KJ Hamler (knee) and TE Albert Okwuegbunam (hamstring) are all on IR.
Oct 9, 2021
Expected to start Sunday
Bridgewater, who is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Pittsburgh, has cleared the concussion protocol and will start at quarterback, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was able to full participate in practice Friday, so this report would appear to confirm previous reports that he was trending toward starting. Still, watch he doesn't have a setback and confirm he's active before the 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
Oct 8, 2021
Practices fully, listed as questionable
Bridgewater (concussion) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Steelers after returning to a full practice Friday, George Stoia III of The Denver Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Per Troy Renck of Denver 7 News, Bridgewater has reportedly cleared the NFL's concussion protocol, including the necessary exam from an independent neurologist, however the Broncos will continue to monitor the QB for the time being. Barring any setbacks, Bridgewater will travel with the team to Pittsburgh on Saturday and in that case, he'd be in line to start Sunday's 1:00 ET contest, backed up by Drew Lock.
Oct 7, 2021
Set for limited practice
Bridgewater (concussion) will practice Thursday in a limited fashion, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater is thus progressing through the NFL's concussion protocol and is trending in the right direction as Sunday's game against the Steelers approaches. If he continues to clear the necessary medical hurdles, there's a chance that the veteran QB could head into the weekend minus a Week 5 injury designation.
Oct 7, 2021
Making progress with concussion
Bridgewater is progressing well in his recovery from a concussion suffered in Sunday's loss to the Ravens, George Stoia of the Colorado Springs Gazette reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater did not practice Wednesday, but the quarterback did participate in other team activities. Coach Vic Fangio said, "He's getting better. He was able to lift today with the group and attend meetings." Fangio also added that it's possible Bridgewater could be a limited participant in Thursday's practice. In order to play in a Week 5, the 28-year-old will have to clear the concussion protocol. If he doesn't, the Broncos will rely on Drew Lock to take the helm as the team's signal caller in a matchup against the Steelers.
Oct 6, 2021
Sidelined Wednesday
Bridgewater (concussion) won't practice Wednesday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
That said, the report notes that coach Vic Fangio seems optimistic that Bridgewater could advance through the NFL's concussion protocol and return to practice before the end of the week. In the meantime, Drew Lock will handle Denver's first-team QB reps in practice.
Oct 4, 2021
Remains in concussion protocol
Coach Vic Fangio said Monday that Bridgewater remains in the concussion protocol, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was knocked out of Sunday's game against the Ravens late in the first half, and the team's medical staff confirmed Monday that he's dealing with a concussion. As a result, he'll have several steps to clear if he hopes to return for Sunday's Week 5 matchup against the Steelers. If Bridgewater isn't cleared to return in time for Sunday's game, Drew Lock will be in line to start under center.
Oct 3, 2021
Concussion confirmed
Bridgewater officially suffered a concussion during Sunday's game versus the Ravens, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
ANALYSIS
Prior to leaving the game, Bridgewater completed seven of 16 passes for one touchdown and had one two-yard rush in one half of work. He'll now be subject to the league's protocol for head injuries before he's cleared to for game action. In the meantime, Drew Lock will direct the Broncos offense.
Oct 3, 2021
Won't return to Sunday's game
Bridgewater (concussion) won't return to Sunday's game against the Ravens, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Drew Lock is now in line to finish out the game at QB for the Broncos, while Bridgewater will aim to gain medical clearance in advance of next Sunday's tilt against the Steelers. Prior to his exit, Bridgewater had completed 7-of-16 passes for 65 yards and a TD and ran once for two yards.
Oct 3, 2021
Possible concussion
Bridgewater is being evaluated for a possible concussion during Sunday's game against the Ravens, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
As a result, Drew Lock has taken over Denver's QB duties to start the second half of the contest. Look for the team to issue an official update on Bridgewater shortly, but for now consider his return questionable.
Sep 27, 2021
No touchdowns in win
Bridgewater completed 19 of 25 passes for 235 yards and zero touchdowns in Sunday's 26-0 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater added four rushes for 24 yards in the contest. In what turned out to be a lopsided affair, the 28-year-old quarterback was able to secure the victory without finding the end zone through the air. The Denver defense was too much for New York to handle, so Bridgewater was not forced to put the team on his back. Instead, the running game accounted for the team's only touchdowns. There will be weeks when the veteran signal caller will be asked to carry more of the load like he did in Weeks 1 and 2. Bridgewater will be given the opportunity to do just that when the undefeated Broncos host the Ravens in Week 4.

Tops 300 yards
Bridgewater completed 26 of his 34 passes for 328 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's Week 2 win over Jacksonville.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater moved the ball well throughout the game and took advantage of a soft matchup. He primarily connected with Courtland Sutton, including for big gains of 55, 33 and 16 yards. However, Bridgewater also spread the ball effectively and found Noah Fant and Tim Patrick for touchdowns. As is typical, Bridgewater seemed fairly content to take what the defense allowed. That approach has worked through two weeks, as he's racked up 592 passing yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Sep 12, 2021
Leads Denver to victory
Bridgewater completed 28 of his 36 pass attempts for 264 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's Week 1 victory over the Giants. He also added three rushes for 19 yards.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater wasn't able to lead the Broncos to many points to begin the game, though he orchestrated back-to-back touchdown drives to end the second quarter and begin the third quarter. Both of those drives ended in close-range touchdown passes for Bridgewater, the first a two-yard toss to Tim Patrick and the second a four-yard throw to Albert Okwuegbunam. As has been the case throughout his career, Bridgewater largely completed passes near the line of scrimmage, as his longest completion of the day went for 25 yards and he completed only two passes for gains of more than 10 yards. Bridgewater likely won't have to get any more aggressive in a Week 2 matchup against the Jaguars.
Aug 29, 2021
Uninspiring in preseason finale
Bridgewater completed six of his 11 passes for 62 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater led three drives for the first-team offense and played with most of the team's top skill-position players. He was unable to move the offense at all for the first two possessions but did get on track to lead a touchdown drive on his final opportunity. Bridgewater connected with Eric Saubert and Courtland Sutton for gains of 20 and 19 yards respectively, before capping the drive with another completion to Sutton for an eight-yard score. Now, Bridgewater will head into the team's Week 1 matchup against the Giants entrenched as the team's starting quarterback.
Aug 25, 2021
To start preseason finale
In addition to being named Week 1 starter Wednesday, head coach Vic Fangio indicated that Bridgewater will start the Broncos' preseason finale Saturday versus the Rams, James Palmer of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater will apparently start a final tune-up game under center Saturday before ceding the duties to Drew Lock at some point. The obviously bigger news of the day is that Bridgewater has claimed the starting quarterback job and will guide an offense in Week 1. He'll be at the helm of a passing attack that features a number of breakout candidates on the receiving end including Courtland Sutton (knee), Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler (illness) and Noah Fant (leg).
Aug 25, 2021
Named Week 1 starter
Bridgewater has been named the Broncos' starting QB in advance of Week 1, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old had been competing with Drew Lock for the assignment, but coach Vic Fangio has settled on Bridgewater as the team's top signal-caller to begin the coming season. In the process, he'll be helming an offense featuring the talented backfield duo Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams, as well as talented pass-catchers Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and Noah Fant.
Aug 22, 2021
Sharp in starting opportunity
Bridgewater completed nine of 11 passes for 105 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in the Broncos' 30-3 preseason win over the Seahawks on Saturday night. He also rushed once for two yards.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Bridgewater received the starting nod Saturday after Drew Lock, with whom he's competing for the starting job, was afforded that opportunity in Denver's exhibition opener against the Vikings. Bridgewater made an immediate impact by helming a seven-play, 45-yard drive on the Broncos' first possession and capping it off with a two-yard touchdown pass to KJ Hamler. The veteran signal-caller subsequently led his squad on a marathon 16-play, 87-yard march that also resulted in six points, although that ended on a recovery of running back Javonte Williams' fumble in the end zone. That possession would be Bridgewater's final one of the night, and Lock was less impressive while playing with mostly the second-unit offense around him, taking two sacks and fumbling twice but losing neither. It remains to be seen whether head coach Vic Fangio will risk the health of either player in next Saturday's preseason finale against the Rams or if he'll simply rely on what he's seen in the first pair of exhibitions an

Effective following Lock
Bridgewater completed seven of his eight pass attempts for 74 yards and one touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater entered the game behind Drew Lock for the team's fourth offensive possession. He performed as could be expected, providing accurate passes to his receivers while also not pushing the ball down the field frequently. Though he entered the game with the backups Saturday, Bridgewater will have the opportunity to start the Broncos' second preseason contest.
Aug 10, 2021
Split of reps to continue
Coach Vic Fangio said Drew Lock will start the Broncos' preseason opener Saturday in Minnesota, while Bridgewater will get the nod in the team's next exhibition Aug. 21 at Seattle, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
As expected, Fangio is sticking to his word that Lock and Bridgewater will split first-team reps, as they've done since the beginning of training camp. Along the way, neither of the quarterbacks have separated from the other, meaning there's a decent chance Fangio may need preseason Week 3 to make the final call.
Jul 30, 2021
Not separating from Lock
Coach Vic Fangio said Friday that he hasn't seen any separation in the competition between Bridgewater and Drew Lock, Zac Stevens of TheDNVR.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Lock got the first snap of training camp, but with the stipulation that Bridgewater would take just as many reps with the starters this summer. While that may be the case for a few more weeks, the Broncos eventually will want to focus on preparing one or the other for Week 1 against the Giants. Until then, we'll look for any possible signs of one QB moving ahead of the other in their battle for the starting job.
May 1, 2021
Going against Lock for No. 1 gig
Coach Vic Fangio said Bridgewater and Drew Lock will split reps "50-50" during the offseason program and training camp, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
ANALYSIS
Fangio's statement comes as no surprise after the Broncos acquired Bridgewater from the Panthers this week and made no additions to the QB room during the draft. Since his devastating knee injury just before the start of the 2016 season, Bridgewater has started 21 of his 29 appearances between the Saints and Panthers on his way to a 68.5 completion percentage, 5,235 yards, 25 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also racked up 315 yards and five scores on the ground during that stretch. The next few months will determine who among Bridgewater and Lock is under center for Denver in Week 1.
Apr 28, 2021
Dealt to Denver
The Panthers are trading Bridgewater to the Broncos for a sixth-round draft pick, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Wit $10 million of his $17 million base salary for 2021 being guaranteed, Bridgewater didn't have much trade value. In fact, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports the Panthers will pay some of the quarterback's salary to facilitate the trade. Bridgewater now figures to compete with Drew Lock for a starting job, while Sam Darnold is left as the only QB in Carolina with significant NFL experience. This trade seemingly increases the odds of the Panthers drafting a signal-caller and decreases the odds of the Broncos taking one, but it could still go either way in both cases, considering none of Bridgewater, Lock or Darnold looks especially likely to become a true franchise QB.
Apr 6, 2021
Given permission to seek trade
The Panthers are allowing Bridgewater to talk with other teams to facilitate a potential trade, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Sam Darnold trade didn't remove all of Bridgewater's leverage, as he still has a $10 million guarantee on his $17 million base salary for 2021. That means there's some chance he sticks around in Carolina, even if it's ultimately as a backup to Darnold. The Panthers seemingly prefer to trade Bridgewater, but that might be easier said than done at this point in the offseason.
Apr 5, 2021
Next domino to fall?
Bridgewater could be traded after the Panthers acquired QB Sam Darnold on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers could instead ask Bridgewater to adjust his contract, though a $10 million guarantee on his $17 million base salary gives the quarterback an awful lot of leverage in negotiations. If he does end up staying in Carolina, he'll likely be given an opportunity to compete with Darnold for the starting job.
Mar 10, 2021
Gets vote of confidence
Coach Matt Rhule said Wednesday that Bridgewater (ankle) is "having a tremendous offseason" and currently remains the Panthers' top quarterback, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Rhule's comments run contrary to popular speculation surrounding the Panthers this offseason, which has been that the team would look to upgrade at the quarterback position either in free agency or the 2021 NFL Draft. As David Newton of ESPN.com notes, Bridgewater had reportedly been floated as a potential part of a deal for Matthew Stafford, who ultimately landed with the Rams. Bridgewater's contract doesn't have a potential 'out' until after 2021, so he could certainly be back with Carolina next season. Of course, Rhule also made clear that the Panthers will analyze the top rookie quarterbacks available and attend their pro days, per Person. Carolina currently holds the No. 8 overall pick in April's draft, and if the team does end up selecting a rookie signal-caller Bridgewater could make for a fine bridge option.
Jan 3, 2021
Hurts ankle in finale
Bridgewater was replaced by P.J. Walker in Sunday's season-ending 33-7 loss to New Orleans, and coach Matt Rhule revealed after the game that Bridgewater's exit was due to an ankle injury, Bill Voth of the Panthers' official site reports. Prior to his exit, Bridgewater completed 13 of 23 passes for 176 yards and two interceptions while adding seven yards on three rushing attempts.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater played poorly prior his removal and Walker was even worse, completing just five of 14 passes with three interceptions. With a 1:3 TD:INT over the final four weeks, Bridgewater struggled down the stretch of his first season with the Panthers, but he's likely locked in as the starter for two more years based on his hefty contract. The 28-year-old quarterback finishes the year with 3,733 passing yards and a 15:11 TD:INT in 15 games.
Dec 27, 2020
Manages Panthers to win
Bridgewater completed 19 of 28 pass attempts for 197 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Week 16 against Washington.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers didn't need Bridgewater to do much to secure a victory, instead taking advantage of miscues by Washington. Bridgewater wasn't without mistakes of his own, throwing an interception and fumbling twice -- one of which was lost. His lone touchdown of the day came on a 14-yard pass just before halftime. Bridgewater and the Panthers will close the season with a Week 17 matchup against the Saints.
Dec 19, 2020
Solid in Week 15 defeat
Bridgewater completed 21 of 35 passes for 258 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions in the Panthers' 24-16 loss to the Packers on Saturday night. He also rushed four times for 26 yards and a score while losing a fumble.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater extended a theme that's been a recurring one for him through what is now a 10-loss season for the Panthers -- putting together a solid stat line in defeat. The veteran was able to work around three sacks and six quarterback hits overall to connect with the returning DJ Moore on six occasions for a team-high 131 yards, but he ultimately went just 1-for-3 on Carolina's last-gasp drive, which started deep in own territory and never advanced past the 26-yard line. Bridgewater also failed to throw a touchdown pass for the second straight game after a five-game streak with at least one scoring toss, a dubious streak he'll look to snap at the expense of Washington in a Week 16 battle on Sunday, Dec. 27.
Dec 13, 2020
Logs rushing score in Week 14 loss
Bridgewater completed 30 of 40 pass attempts for 283 yards, adding three carries for 31 rushing yards and one touchdown during Sunday's 32-27 loss to the Broncos.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old's fantasy value has been boosted by three rushing scores over his past four outings, but he remains less-than-explosive as a thrower, with zero outings of three-plus passing touchdowns all season. Worse yet for his outlook within the organization, Carolina has dropped seven consecutive Bridgewater starts after kicking off the year 3-2. The sliding Panthers now aim to recalibrate on a short week, traveling to Green Bay to take on the Packers' 12th-ranked pass defense Saturday night.
Dec 9, 2020
Healthy after bye week
Bridgewater isn't listed on Carolina's Week 14 injury report.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was banged up at the end of Carolina's last game, a 28-27 loss to the Vikings in Week 12. He's apparently healthy after a bye week, but two of his top-three receivers are on the reserve/COVID-19 list, and RB Christian McCaffrey (thigh/shoulder) is looking uncertain for Sunday's matchup with Denver.
Nov 29, 2020
Nearly leads memorable comeback
Bridgewater completed 19 of 36 passes for 267 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Panthers' 28-27 loss to the Vikings on Sunday. He also rushed twice for 12 yards and appeared to leave the game after the last offensive play with an undisclosed injury, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater's return to Minnesota had a bit of everything in it, including what came close to qualifying as a memorable comeback. The veteran quarterback was able to hit Robby Anderson on a crossing route for his one touchdown throw and also connected with Curtis Samuel on a clutch 35-yard completion during the Panthers' last-gasp drive that culminated in a missed 54-yard field-goal attempt by Joey Slye with one second remaining. Bridgewater limped off the field after taking a hit on his final pass attempt the play prior, but he looked to be at full health after missing Week 11 with an MCL sprain and was able to extend his streak of games with at least once scoring throw to five. Bridgewater will now look to help Carolina bounce back from the heartbreaking defeat in a tough matchup versus the Broncos in Week 14 following a bye.
Nov 27, 2020
Good to go
Bridgewater (knee) will play in Sunday's game at Minnesota, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
A full practice participant throughout the week, Bridgewater will reclaim the starting job after P.J. Walker filled in for last Sunday's win over the Lions. Bridgewater gets a decent matchup against the Vikings, who have allowed the 12th-most fantasy points to QBs this season.
Nov 25, 2020
Should play this week
Bridgewater (knee) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, with coach Matt Rhule saying afterward that he expects the veteran quarterback to play in Sunday's game against Minnesota, Bill Voth of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
This shouldn't be too much of a surprise after Bridgewater nearly was cleared to play in Sunday's win over the Lions. His mobility might be a bit limited, but the Panthers seem confident Bridgewater will end up missing just the one game.
Nov 23, 2020
Should practice Wednesday
Coach Matt Rhule said Monday that he expects Bridgewater to participate in Wednesday's practice, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater logged a trio of limited practice sessions last week but was a late scratch for Sunday's win over Detroit, and P.J. Walker was ultimately Carolina's starting quarterback. Considering Bridgewater was expected to play Sunday despite a sprained MCL in his right knee, he has a decent chance to return to action in Week 12 against the Vikings.
Nov 22, 2020
Now inactive for Sunday's game
Bridgewater (knee) is inactive Sunday against the Lions, leaving P.J. Walker as the Panthers' starting quarterback, Bill Voth of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater initially was reported to be active, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, but the Panthers quickly changed course and included him on their inactive list. With Bridgewater on the sideline due to a sprained MCL in his right knee, the team will go with Walker under center and Will Grier as his backup.
Nov 22, 2020
Available Sunday
Bridgewater (knee) is listed as active Sunday against the Lions, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater's availability was in limbo due to a MCL sprain in his right knee, which he sustained last Sunday versus the Buccaneers. He was limited in practice all week as a result, but after a pair of pregame warmups he cleared the final hurdle to play. Assuming he also gets the starting nod, Bridgewater will look to exploit a Detroit defense that ranks 24th against the pass (258.4 yards per game).
Nov 22, 2020
Remains game-time call
Bridgewater (knee) is expected to have his available for Sunday's game against the Lions determined by a pregame workout, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old took snaps during Saturday's walkthrough session and wants to play, but he'll need to test out his right knee ahead of Sunday's contest. P.J. Walker is expected to start at quarterback for the Panthers if Bridgewater can't play versus the Lions.
Nov 21, 2020
Optimism for Sunday
Bridgewater (knee) went through some practice work Saturday, and there's some optimism about his availability for Sunday's game against the Lions, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old was a limited participant at practice all week, but he apparently showed some improvements during Saturday's session. Bridgewater should still be considered a game-time decision, and how his knee responds Sunday morning is set to be the determining factor in his status. Will Grier or P.J. Walker are both in the mix to start should Bridgewater be unavailable.
Nov 20, 2020
Likely a game-time decision
Bridgewater (knee) is listed as questionable on the final injury report, with coach Matt Rhule saying the quarterback likely will be a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with the Lions, ESPN's David Newton reports.
ANALYSIS
Reports after Thursday's practice were pessimistic, but Bridgewater apparently looked better Friday while participating in a limited capacity for the third straight day. Rhule is avoiding the question of who will start at quarterback in the event Bridgewater is inactive, saying Friday that he isn't ready to declare either P.J. Walker or Will Grier as the replacement. It's a tricky situation for fantasy managers, but a 1:00 p.m. ET kickoff at least makes things a little easier, as we should have an answer by 11:30 a.m. on Sunday at the latest.
Nov 20, 2020
Could still play this week
The Panthers haven't given up on the possibility of Bridgewater (knee) starting Sunday's game against the Lions, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
A Thursday report suggested the veteran QB was unlikely to play, but he apparently looked better Friday morning, potentially setting up a 'questionable' designation for Sunday's game. It also isn't clear who will start at quarterback if Bridgewater can't play, as the team has both P.J. Walker and Will Grier on its roster.
Nov 19, 2020
Looking unlikely for Week 11
Bridgewater (knee) appears unlikely to start for the Panthers in Sunday's game against the Lions, sources tell Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
ANALYSIS
While the report notes that a final call on Bridgewater's Week 11 status hasn't been made, the quarterback doesn't seem to be trending in the right direction after he was limited in practices Wednesday and Thursday. When asked Thursday about how Bridgewater was coming along in his recovery from an MCL sprain, head coach Matt Rhule said wasn't willing to rule the signal-caller out for Week 11, though he admitted that Bridgewater was "extremely limited" in the aforementioned practices, according to Bill Voth of the Panthers' official site. Bridgewater could create more positivity about his status by increasing his activity at Friday's practice, but the Panthers will continue to keep backup quarterbacks Will Grier and P.J. Walker prepared in the event Bridgewater can't play this weekend.
Nov 19, 2020
Limited again Thursday
Bridgewater (knee) was limited in practice Thursday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
For a second consecutive day, Bridgewater's practice reps were capped due to the sprained right MCL that he suffered this past Sunday against the Buccaneers. After Thursday's session, coach Matt Rhule told Bill Voth of the Panthers' official site that Bridgewater is "extremely limited now, but he's moving around well" and "hasn't really opened up yet. He's preparing as if he's going to play." With a game-time decision seemingly on tap, Bridgewater still has a chance to suit up Sunday against the Lions, but if he's unable to Rhule will turn to one of P.J. Walker or Will Grier.

Limited in practice again
Bridgewater (knee) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Panthers are expected to manage Bridgewater's reps in practice all week while he recovers from an MCL sprain in his right knee, an injury he suffered in the team's Week 10 loss to the Buccaneers. More clarity on Bridgewater's status heading into this weekend's game against Detroit should arrive at the conclusion of Friday's practice, but if he can't go, either P.J. Walker or Will Grier would be in store for their first start of the season.

Limited at Wednesday's practice
Bridgewater (knee) practiced in a limited capacity Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
As expected, the Panthers capped Bridgewater's reps as the team kicked off preparations for a Week 11 matchup with the Lions. There's a decent chance he maintains this activity level to keep pressure off the MCL sprain in his right knee. Assuming the Panthers opt to keep Bridgewater sidelined Sunday, coach Matt Rhule will have a decision to make between reserves P.J. Walker and Will Grier at quarterback.

Likely to be limited Wednesday
Bridgewater (knee) is slated to be a limited practice participant Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Coach Matt Rhule expressed hope that Bridgewater would be on the field Wednesday, and now the quarterback's activity has been forecast. The MCL sprain in Bridgewater's right knee isn't considered to be significant, so taking part in drills to start Week 11 prep seemingly would set him on a path to suit up Sunday against the Lions. If the Panthers are forced to go a different direction, though, Bridgewater's replacement will be either P.J. Walker or Will Grier.

Could practice Wednesday
Coach Matt Rhule is hopeful that Bridgewater (knee) will be able to practice Wednesday, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater underwent an MRI to address a knee injury which forced him out in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 46-23 loss to the Buccaneers, the results of which revealed an MCL sprain. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Panthers consider Bridgewater day-to-day, and Reed notes that Rhule said his quarterback "does not have a significant injury." If he's able to resume practicing quickly, it sounds like Bridgewater could have a solid shot to suit up against Detroit in Week 11. In the event that he misses time, on the other hand, Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer reports that Will Grier and P.J. Walker will compete for the chance to start.

Day-to-day with MCL sprain
Bridgewater (knee) suffered a sprained MCL during Sunday's 46-23 loss to the Buccaneers and is considered day-to-day, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was forced out of last weekend's loss in the fourth quarter, and the results of his MRI have now revealed an MCL sprain in his right knee that leaves him with a chance to play Week 11, per Rapoport. The Panthers stand to subject Bridgewater to a number of trials at practice this week in order to determine his chances of retaking the field without missing time. If Bridgewater requires a stint on the sideline to get healthy, however, P.J. Walker would likely step up under center for Carolina.

MRI ordered up on knee
Bridgewater is undergoing an MRI on his right knee Sunday evening, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater left Sunday's 46-23 defeat to the Buccaneers in the fourth quarter, having his right knee examined before heading to the locker room. Coach Matt Rhule didn't provide an update on Bridgewater's health after the game, per David Newton of ESPN.com, but there's apparently enough concern that an MRI has been ordered up. Next up for reps behind Bridgewater is P.J. Walker.

Tallies three TDs before injury
Bridgewater (knee) didn't return to Sunday's 46-23 loss to the Buccaneers, finishing Week 10 having completed 18 of 24 passes for 136 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while turning three carries into 16 yards and one TD.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater departed in the fourth quarter and had his right knee evaluated before going to the locker room. Afterward, coach Matt Rhule told David Newton of ESPN.com that he had no update on Bridgewater's health. The Panthers likely will put Bridgewater through a battery of tests to determine the extent of the injury, and if he needs any time away from the field, P.J. Walker will direct the offense in his stead.

Suffers knee injury Sunday
Bridgewater (knee) went to the locker room near the end of Sunday's game against the Buccaneers, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. The Panthers deemed Bridgewater doubtful to return, per Alaina Getzenberg of The Charlotte Observer.
ANALYSIS
Trainers examined Bridgewater's right knee before heading inside. With little reason to bring him back in what is a soon-to-be loss, he'll finish 18-for-24 passing for 136 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also contributed three rushes for 16 yards and one touchdown. P.J. Walker entered the game in Bridgewater's place.

Holds own against Mahomes
Bridgewater completed 36 of 49 passes for 310 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Panthers' 33-31 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. He also rushed twice for 19 yards and another score.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater gave a strong accounting of himself in a head-to-head showdown with Patrick Mahomes, and he clearly benefited from having Christian McCaffrey (ribs), who he connected with on 10 occasions, back in the fold. The veteran quarterback not only remained free of mistakes, but he complemented his strong passing performance with two excellent runs, one going for a four-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter and another a spectacular 15-yard effort for a first down that culminated in an impressive leap past the marker. Bridgewater now has a trio of 300-yard efforts, and he'll look to continue building up his numbers in a tough Week 10 battle against the Buccaneers.

Endures rough night in loss
Bridgewater completed 15 of 23 passes for 176 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Panthers' 25-17 loss to the Falcons on Thursday night. He also rushed five times for 30 yards.
ANALYSIS
It was ultimately a forgettable night all the way around for Bridgewater, albeit one that started off with plenty of promise. The seven-year veteran led the Panthers on a pair of first-half scoring drives that were capped off by Curtis Samuel touchdowns, but he all but disappeared in the second half while also briefly missing time due to a neck injury. Bridgewater would ultimately have one late opportunity to get Carolina in position to tie up the game with a touchdown and two-point conversion, but he threw an interception at the Falcons' nine-yard line with 1:04 remaining to snuff out any hopes of a comeback. Bridgewater's passing yardage total was his lowest of the season by far, but he'll have to quickly put the hiccup behind him with a high-powered Chiefs squad on tap in a Week 9 road interconference matchup on Sunday, Nov. 8.

Re-enters Thursday's contest
Bridgewater (neck) has retaken the field in the fourth quarter Thursday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was forced out of action Thursday after suffering a late hit to the head during the third quarter. He was initially listed as questionable after clearing the concussion protocol, and P.J. Walker began the Falcons' subsequent offensive drive, but Bridgewater managed to sprint back on the field with just under nine minutes remaining in the game. He'll attempt to lead the Panthers out of a 25-17 deficit.

Leaves field after late hit
Bridgewater has been forced out of Thursday's divisional match against the Falcons after taking a hit to the head in the third quarter, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was tripped by Falcons defensive end Dante Flowler before then suffering a hit to the head from Charles Harris, who was subsequently ejected from the game. He was able to walk off the field under his own power before entering the blue medical tent. P.J. Walker, the Panthers' only other active quarterback for Thursday night, will slot in under center as long as Bridgewater remains sidelined.
Oct 25, 2020
Efficient, mistake-free in loss
Bridgewater completed 23 of 28 passes for 254 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Panthers' 27-24 loss to the Saints on Sunday. He also rushed two times for 10 yards.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was back in the stadium that hosted several of the 2019 performances that helped score him a lucrative free-agent contract, and he bounced back from a rocky Week 6 outing against the Bears in Sunday's loss. The veteran averaged an impressive 9.1 yards per attempt while connecting with D.J. Moore for both of his touchdown tosses and hitting six different pass catchers overall. Bridgewater was nearly able to lead Carolina on what would have been a game-winning drive, but the march stalled at the Saints' 47-yard line with a sack and Joey Slye subsequently fell just short of drilling a 65-yard field-goal attempt. Despite the disappointing team outcome Sunday, Bridgewater once again delivered for fantasy managers and will look to help the Panthers get back in the win column against the Falcons in a Week 8 Thursday night battle.
Oct 18, 2020
Rough outing against physical Bears
Bridgewater completed 16 of 29 pass attempts for 216 yards, committing two interceptions during Sunday's 23-16 loss to Chicago. He also ran for 48 yards on eight rush attempts.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old signal-caller entered Sunday throwing to an uber-efficient 73.4 percent completion rate and 6:3 TD:INT, but the Bears registered six QB hits and four sacks on Bridgewater, holding him to a lowly 34.3 QBR on the afternoon. It may have been a completely different outcome had Bridgewater been able to redo his first and final series of the day, as he threw an interception on the third play from scrimmage, before committing a game-sealing INT on Carolina's final offensive drive. In between came plenty of solid play from Bridgewater, as he ultimately had his team within one possession, ball in-hand late in the fourth quarter. The Panthers drop to 3-3 with the loss, and now head into a Week 7 matchup against Bridgewater's former team, New Orleans.

Breaks 300 yards against Atlanta
Bridgewater went 27-for-37 passing with 313 yards and two touchdowns during Sunday's 23-16 win against the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
The one-time Pro Bowl QB has been prolific in the yardage department through his first five outings as a Panther, averaging 292 passing yards per game with a 6:3 TD:INT. Bridgewater has also been uber-efficient in terms of his completion percentage, with Sunday's outing against the Falcons being his fourth performance of the season with a completion rate exceeding 70 percent. In Week 6, Bridgewater will face a Bears defense that surrendered 253 passing yards and one TD to Tom Brady in its last time out.
Oct 4, 2020
Leads Panthers to second straight W
Bridgewater went 26-for-37 passing with 276 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, adding six rushes for 32 yards and a touchdown during Sunday's 31-21 win against Arizona.
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old signal-caller has composed winning starts in consecutive outings, handing Carolina its first back-to-back wins since Weeks 5 and 6 of 2019. Bridgewater has provided ample production in the yardage department through four appearances, throwing for more than 285 passing yards per game, but he had just two total touchdowns entering Sunday's contest. The scoring breakout from Bridgewater comes as Carolina prepares for a favorable QB matchup against Atlanta's bottom-three pass defense.

Avoids turnovers in victory
Bridgewater completed 22 of 28 pass attempts for 235 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Chargers. He also carried two times for 12 yards in the 21-16 win.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater completed an impressive 79 percent of his passes while averaging a healthy 8.4 yards per attempt. He connected with Mike Davis for a 13-yard touchdown in the second quarter, doubling his season touchdown output, but it proved to be his only score of the day. Bridgewater's yardage and completion numbers have been quite strong through three games, but his fantasy value has suffered because of a lack of touchdowns. He'll look to buck that trend next Sunday against the Cardinals.
Sep 20, 2020
Prolific numbers in losing effort
Bridgewater completed 33 of 42 passes for 367 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in the Panthers' 31-17 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
ANALYSIS
A game script that saw the Panthers down by 21-0 by halftime worked in Bridgewater's fantasy managers' favor, as it required the veteran quarterback to constantly put the ball up in the second half. Bridgewater unsurprisingly made a couple of errors with that level of volume, and considering he was under constant duress while getting sacked five times. Despite the high number of completions, however, Bridgewater only completed passes to three wideouts overall (DJ Moore, Robby Anderson and Curtis Samuel), with all but two of of his other connections transpiring with running backs Mike Davis and Christian McCaffrey. Through two games, Bridgewater has rewarded fantasy managers with a whopping 637 passing yards, but that's been accompanied by a pedestrian 1:2 TD:INT. Bridgewater will look to helm a more balanced offensive effort in a Week 3 road inter-conference battle against the Chargers.
Sep 13, 2020
Totals 270 yards
Bridgewater completed 22 of 34 passes for 270 yards and one touchdown in Week 1 against the Raiders. He also chipped in 26 rushing yards on four attempts.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater was fairly unimpressive early on, completing only short passes. However, he opened things up a bit in the second half, particularly on a deep 75-yard touchdown pass to Robby Anderson. Reports suggested that Bridgewater was looking mobile during camp, and while he won't rival the elite rushing quarterbacks, it is noteworthy that he added 26 additional yards on the ground. He'll look to build on this performance in a Week 2 matchup against the Buccaneers.
Aug 19, 2020
Building familiarity within offense
Bridgewater has shown good mobility and a developing rapport with wideout Robby Anderson early in training camp, The Charlotte Observer reports.
ANALYSIS
Bridgewater certainly won't be mistaken for a former track star, but the quarterback is capable of scampering for a first down here and there. More importantly, it's the turbo-charged Anderson whose speed has impressed at camp thus far, as he's reportedly gotten consistent separation ahead of connections from Bridgewater. With D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel and Christian McCaffrey also in tow among his top targets, Bridgewater undoubtedly has a dynamic set of runners at his disposal as he re-familiarizes himself with coordinator Joe Brady this season.

Going to Carolina
The Panthers and Bridgewater have agreed to a three-year, $63 million contract, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Once teams can announce signings with unrestricted free agents Wednesday, the Panthers will officially have moved on from Cam Newton (foot). Bridgewater himself fared well in six extensive outings (five starts) in placed of an injured Drew Brees last season, completing 67.7 percent of his passes for 1,370 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions during that stretch. In Carolina, Bridgewater will have perhaps the most versatile running back in the NFL (Christian McCaffrey) at his disposal along with a pair of young wide receivers (D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel).
Mar 17, 2020
Nears deal with Carolina
The Panthers and Bridgewater are reportedly working toward a three-year deal thought to be in the $60 million range, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Mortensen notes that the deal "is not done as they work out details but it is expected to be complete when (the) new league year opens Wednesday." Assuming the anticipated signing happens, Bridgewater would be in line to take over the Panthers' starting QB job, with the team poised to move on from Cam Newton.
Feb 17, 2020
Looking at strong market
Bridgewater is expected to have a strong market for his services as an unrestricted free agent this spring, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With Drew Brees likely coming back for another season and Taysom Hill still under contract, Bridgewater figures to leave New Orleans for a shot at a starting job. He won each of his five starts in 2019, completing 69.7 percent of passes for 7.3 yards per attempt in those games, with just nine sacks, two interceptions and no fumbles. The one negative for Bridgewater is a crowded market for free-agent QBs, including Tom Brady, Philip Rivers and Jameis Winston.
