This year is the first year of Oakdale’s history that they have played host to the Canadian Open and they are scheduled to do so again, in 2026. The course looks to be an undulating tree-lined test and players will have more undulation changes for their second shots than most tracks.
The greens are a Bentgrass/Poa annua mix and the designer Stanley Thompson was responsible for last year’s track, the St. Georges Golf & Country Club, also in Ontario which earned rave reviews from the players.
This week’s RBC Canadian Open has an extremely weak American representation, so much so, that with only three yanks in the top 13 of the world rankings, they are easily overlooked.

Can Rory McIlroy Do a Canadian Three-Peat?
Yes, I believe Rory McIlroy can do a Canadian Open three-peat this week having won pre Covid-19 in 2019 and retained last year. Having missed those two years through the pandemic, it would mean in theory Rory McIlroy would be the Canadian Open holder for over five years.
We have seen how proud the Northern Irishman is with his leading the line for the PGA Tour against LIV Golf but now is the time for him to get back to doing what he does best, winning golf tournaments. McIlroy’s recent press conferences and withdrawal from the Heritage Classic indicate he is determined to focus on himself and get back to winning ways.
After a respectable PGA Championship and strong effort at the Memorial Tournament last week, Rory McIlroy looks a strong favorite this week with no Jon Rahm or Scottie Scheffler.
Golf Pick: Rory McIlroy to Win (+400) at Bet365
A Rare Missed Cut Could Be Just the Ticket for Tommy Fleetwood
The Charles Schwab Challenge saw a very unusual result for the popular Englishman when he missed the cut for the second time in his last 50 events. In fact, a missed cut could be just the ticket for Fleetwood and a blessing in disguise, allowing him to regroup. After all, he has been in solid form all year and nearly won the Valspar Championship.
Looking at the flyover of the Oakdale Golf and Country Club, the track reminds me of Wentworth in England a little which will help Fleetwood’s cause.
Tommy Fleetwood was 6th at the 2018 Canadian Open and we know with the carrot of a first PGA Tour win on the line, in a weaker renewal than normal, he has a great chance this year.

C.T. Pan Is an Interesting Sleeper Pick for Props This Week
Pan Cheng-Tsung or C.T. Pan as he’s more popularly known caught my eye as a sleeper pick this week in the Canadian Open. His 4th at the Byron Nelson on his last start was a performance that stood out for Pan, on only his third start of 2023, having been off for several months due to a niggling wrist injury.
With a few weeks off in the interim, hopefully, Pan will be recovering nicely and his career form at tree-lined tracks gives him an interesting profile this week. To illustrate that fact, his one PGA Tour win was at the Heritage Classic in 2019.
Interestingly has lots of strong form on Bentgrass/Poa annua mix greens with runner-up finishes at both the Farmers Insurance Open and Wyndham Championship. C.T. Pan has maximum motivation for another good week given this will only be the ninth start of a disrupted season and his previous foray into Canada for their Open saw him finish 14th in 2017.
Here at Oddstrader, there are lots of props to get stuck into for C.T. Pan and I suggest the top 5 for a modest stake and the top 20 for the meatier option for your betting picks.
