The CJ Cup Byron Nelson

May 2 – 5 at TPC Craig Ranch

This week’s PGA Event to find your best bets is the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, which has been played at the TPC Craig Ranch course for the last three years. The track is a Tom Weiskopf design and one of the easier tests on the PGA Tour, where the bombers can wheel away off the tee with very little penalty.

The weather forecast looks a little mixed, with light rain showers and moderate winds due on all four days.

Will Jason Day Retain His Title?

Jason Day could definitely retain the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

The event has been played for three years at TPC Craig Ranch and in that time, there have only been two winners, Kyoung Hoon Lee in 2021, 2022 and Jason Day last year.

Interestingly, this looks like a very weak renewal, and accordingly, Jason Day is near the head of the market at +1600 with Bet365.

Equally, the thirty-six-year-old Aussie has been trending nicely into form at the Masters and RBC Heritage, so now with a drop-in class to this weaker field and defending his crown, perhaps he has an extremely solid opportunity to do so.

Remember, Lee performed the same feat in 2021 and 2022, and perhaps with age, the easier tests are beginning to suit Jason Day slightly more given the reliable nature of his putting stats.

Golf Pick: Jason Day to Win Outright (+1600) at Bet365

Can Stephen Jaeger Do a Quick Double?

Yes, this week is a great opportunity for Stephen Jaeger to win his second PGA Tour title in quick succession, having won the Houston Open a couple of starts ago.

The German was a prolific winner on the Korn Ferry Tour, winning on six occasions as he plied his trade creditably for many seasons on America’s feeder tour to the big league.

This year has been a breakthrough one for the thirty-two-year-old Munich-born golfer on the PGA Tour, with a current FedEx ranking of 15th after two earlier 3rd place finishes in Mexico and Torrey Pines along with the Houston win.

His world ranking has skyrocketed to #43 in the process, and he has some strong course form at this week’s track, TPC Craig Ranch where he finished 11th last year and 38th the year prior.

There is nothing not to like about Stephen Jaeger’s chances this week, so we advise you take the German player at the price of +2800.

Why Kevin Tway Is Perfect for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson

There are several factors pointing towards Kevin Tway having a perfect profile for this week’s event in Texas.

Firstly, he had an 11th-place finish last year to illustrate his liking for the track, which is no surprise for a player who gives the ball a good wallop off the tee and a solid putter.

The thirty-five-year-old from Oklahoma has some very strong recent form to evidence the good nick his golf game is in. A 3rd-place finish at the Corales Puntacana on only his third start of 2024 proved that, and last week at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, he followed that up with another solid effort when partnering Kelly Kraft.

With Tway recapturing the form that saw him win his one and only PGA win at the 2018 Safeway Open, this week looks a good time to jump aboard and back him in the outright market at +12500 and add him for a top 20 finish too.
