This week’s PGA Tour event, the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, starts a day early on Wednesday. Torrey Pines is the host course as usual with three rounds at the South Course that has been used for two US Opens, and one at the North Course.

Will Jason Have His Day?
Last week’s easy test down the road in California at the American Express was not particularly well suited to the Australian’s strengths but will work well as a warmup to this week’s Championship Course, test which fundamentally suits him better. Few players over the years hit the golf ball with the length, accuracy and consistency off the tee that Day does, which has always been an advantage this week, particularly for the three rounds at the South Course of Torrey Pines.
Day offered his thoughts on why the course is such a demanding test and how his ability off the tee is of paramount importance when he said,
“It’s so demanding on the driver, you have to get yourself in position. If you’re not and with how the greens are starting to bounce, it’s very difficult to get yourself back into position leaving yourself in the right spot to get up and down.”

Day started the year at the Sentry in Hawaii after bookending 2023 with a win at the Grant Thornton Invitational with Lydia Ko, who won on the LPGA yesterday.
We believe this is a huge year for thirty-six-year-old former world #1 with him seemingly fully recovered from injury.

Harris English Looks Rock Solid This Week
Our second pick is Harris English, a player who started the season in strong form on both PGA Tour outings in Hawaii.
The thirty-four-year-old from Georgia has always had a strong record at Torrey Pines, which is not a surprise given his ball striking has always been elite level.
His best performance at the track came in the 2021 US Open when he finished an impressive 3rd to Jon Rahm. His previous best performance was on debut back in 2015 when he was runner-up to our first selection, Jason Day.
Like Day, English is back to full fitness having been under an injury cloud since 2022 when he was forced to have surgery on his right hip to repair a torn labrum. A surgery like that naturally means a period of convalescence, and it has taken English a while to find the consistency in his game.
His stats indicate that the consistency is back, and he looked strong across the board from putting to ball striking in Hawaii, so with his price of (+4500) at Bet365, this week is a good one to support Harris English.
