Chicago Cubs vs. San Diego Padres
Monday, April 08, 2024 – 09:40 PM ET at Petco Park
The AI Model likes the Padres over the Cubs, 5-3. However, the Padres are just -135 betting odds on the moneyline. We’ll absolutely roll with the Padres here.
Javier Assad’s first start for the Cubs was fantastic. He got the win and didn’t allow a run. But it probably won’t get any better than that moving forward. After all, Assad allowed a .171 ISO and wOBA of .322 to 239 righties last season. He’ll have to face powerful righties like Xander Bogaerts, Fernando Tatis, Manny Machado and Ha-Seong Kim.
The Padres should put up some runs, especially knowing that the lineup isn’t a high strikeout lineup against righties.
San Diego will pitch Yu Darvish, who took a step back last season. However, in two starts this year, Darvish only has a 2.30 ERA and has struck out 27.7% of batters with only 4.3% of walks. Darvish looks much more improved this season and has allowed just a .277 wOBA to those 47 batters faced.
Meanwhile, the Cubs have seven players who have struck out at least 20.7% of the time against righties and an ISO of just .163 against righties as a unit dating back to last season.
I’ll trust Darvish at home. Take the Padres at -135.
