Miami Heat vs. Denver Nuggets
Sunday, June 4, 2023 – 08:00 PM EDT at Ball Arena
Caleb Martin (Miami Heat)
Caleb Martin was in the running to be the Eastern Conference Finals MVP with his stellar performance against the Boston Celtics. He suffered a huge regression in Game 1 against the Denver Nuggets with only three points and four rebounds in 24 minutes of play and was a dismal 1-7 from the field.
Do not count out Caleb Martin, expect him to bounce back tonight.
The Pick
Before his Game 1 dud, Martin was coming off the best performances of his career. He had 26 points and 10 rebounds in Miami’s decisive Game 7 win against Boston. This came on the heels of a 21-point, 15-rebound performance against the Celtics in Game 6. Martin shot 68.8% from the field in Game 7 against Boston, and that dropped to 14.3% against the Nuggets in Game 1.
Although Martin is not likely to keep shooting at close to a 70% range, he will play much better than he did in Game 1. Caleb Martin will show that all the hype was real and he is a quality NBA player tonight when he goes over his point prop at +108 betting odds.
NBA Prop Pick: Caleb Martin Over 13.5 Points (+108) at BetRivers
Michael Porter (Denver Nuggets)
Denver was able to dominate in Game 1 even without a strong performance from Michael Porter offensively. Porter was effective on the glass, leading the team with 13 rebounds.
Yet Porter is known for his sharpshooting, and in that category he fell short, going 5-16 from the field and only 2-11 from three-point range. Porter will look better on the offensive end tonight.
The Pick
Over the last three games, Porter averaged 10.3 3-point field goal attempts per game. He is an excellent three-point shooter, he has just been cold as of late.
I expect Porter to get back on track tonight with the Nuggets wanting to get him involved. He will have a little more comfort on his side knowing his team has the lead in the series.
Earlier, Porter would have to worry about getting pulled by Denver Nuggets coach Mike Malone for his poor defense, but having increased his defensive acumen has in turn increased Mike Malone’s trust in Porter.
That trust and his teammates’ trust will be evident again tonight when Michael Porter goes over his point prop.
NBA Prop Pick: Michael Porter Over 15.5 Points (-108) at Caesars Sportsbook
Bruce Brown (Denver Nuggets)
Bruce Brown is an important piece of the Denver Nuggets team. Bruce Brown is a smart veteran player who is a versatile defender and brings energy and intensity to the Denver Nuggets team. He is a wily veteran who has been key in the Nuggets’ rise to the top of the Western Conference.
The Pick
Bruce Brown has gone over tonight’s point total in five of his last seven games. During the postseason, he is averaging 12.1 points per game on 53.3% shooting from the field.
The Nuggets will need Brown tonight and I expect him to get more than the 21 minutes he played in Game 1, where he scored an efficient 10 points on 4-7 from the field. Brown only played 21 minutes, but he should see more playing time tonight. The extra playing time will push him over the top and Bruce Brown will go over his point prop.
NBA Prop Pick: Bruce Brown Over 10.5 Points (+100) at BetMGM
