We’ve got plenty of baseball action tonight. Here are three picks that the computers at OddsTrader like in the MLB.

Picks Summary

Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Minnesota Twins

Saturday, August 5, 2023 – 07:10 PM EDT at Target Field

Our AI Model believes that the Minnesota Twins will win tonight’s game 5-4.6. At -160, the Twins are a good selection on the moneyline tonight.

Ryne Nelson will get the start for the Diamondbacks. He hasn’t been excellent recently, having allowed a .318 ISO and wOBA of .407 to his last 120 batters. Righties and lefties have been hitting a high ISO and wOBA against him over the last month. He’s been worse against righties and has only earned 9.2% of strikeouts throughout the last 30 days.

Meanwhile, the Twins will likely have more lefties than righties. That’s helpful, but Nelson still allows a .204 ISO and wOBA of .360 against his last 57 lefties. He’ll get rocked regardless. The Twins have a .180 ISO and wOBA of .345 over the last month against righties with their projected lineup.

Kenta Maeda will get the start for the Twins. Maeda has also struggled against righties but has done well against lefties, holding them to a .033 ISO and wOBA of .266. Arizona’s lineup will have more lefties than righties. As a lineup, the Diamondbacks have only hit a .115 ISO.

The Twins have the advantage in this one. I agree with the computers. Take the Twins at -160 betting odds.

MLB Pick: Twins ML (-160) at Caesars Sportsbook

Colorado Rockies vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Saturday, August 5, 2023 – 07:15 PM EDT at Busch Stadium

Our computers believe the Cardinals will win tonight’s game, 6.3-3.8, against the Colorado Rockies. While the Cardinals are massive favorites, there are still ways to bet on St. Louis for better odds.

The Rockies will be using their bullpen a lot tonight. Ty Blach will start for Colorado, but he’s only thrown 36.11 pitches per outing this season. Blach has struck out just 9.6% of batters this season and has allowed a wOBA of .350 to 94 batters.

The Cardinals have hit a .187 ISO and wOBA of .331 with their projected lineup against lefties over the last month. They’ve also got plenty of contributors against right-handed pitchers too.

On the other hand, Steven Matz will get the call for the Cardinals. He’s improved so much over the last month for St. Louis. At one point, he was pitching in the bullpen. But against his last 104 batters, he’s held teams to a .122 ISO and wOBA of .232. He’s also struck out 26% of batters and has walked under 5%.

On top of that, Matz has thrown an average of 90 pitches per start in the last month. He’s starting to get back to his old self. He’ll face a Rockies lineup that has only hit a .113 ISO and wOBA of .265 against lefties over the last month. This same projected lineup has also struck out 28.3% of the time.

I’ll side with Matz and the Cardinals to win on the run line. The AI model is on to something.

MLB Pick: Cardinals -1.5 (-120) at Caesars Sportsbook

Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels

Saturday, August 5, 2023 – 09:07 PM EDT at Angel Stadium

The AI Model suggests that the Angels will win tonight’s game as an underdog at home. The Angels are currently +126 but projected to win 4.7-4.5 over the Mariners tonight.

The Angels and Mariners typically play in high-scoring games, but tonight should be different. George Kirby will take the hill for the Mariners. He’s struck out nearly 29% of batters over the last month and has held righties to a .089 ISO and wOBA of .263. Kirby has limited walks to 4.3% in the last 30 days and has allowed a wOBA of .294 throughout the season.

However, the Angels’ lineup has been hot against righties. It’s going to be a tough matchup for Kirby. He will hold his own, but the Angels should get some runs. Los Angeles has hit a .191 ISO against righties over the last month with their projected lineup. There might be a long ball from a lefty like Shohei Ohtani, Mike Moustakas, or Mickey Moniak.

On the other hand, Tyler Anderson will start for the Angels. He’s a lefty who has allowed a .157 ISO and wOBA of .348 over the last month. But he’s facing a Mariners lineup that has earned a .066 ISO and wOBA of .290 against lefties over the last month. Seattle has struck out 28.7% of the time against lefties with this lineup and has a wOBA of .290. The Angels have a much better lineup.

Take Los Angeles to get an upset win.
