Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels
Sunday, August 06, 2023 – 04:07 PM EDT at Angel Stadium
Our AI Model believes that the Mariners and Angels will combine to score 11.2 runs tonight. The model has the Mariners earning a 5.7-5.5 victory over the Angels. With the total at 9.5, there’s value on the Over.
The Mariners will start Bryce Miller for today’s game against the Angels. Miller has only thrown an average of 82.5 pitches per start and has allowed a .329 ISO and wOBA of .389 to his last 93 batters. Miller has high strikeouts against righties. However, he rarely earns strikeouts against lefties and has only induced 24.2% of ground balls over the last month.
The Angels have so many talented lefties in the lineup, including Shohei Ohtani, Mike Moustakas, Mickey Moniak, and Luis Rengifo.
Miller has allowed over 59% of hard contact and nearly 26% of line drives. He’s also given up a 16.7% barrel percentage over the last 30 days. On the other hand, the Angels will pitch Chase Silseth. Like Miller, he hasn’t gone very deep. He’s thrown an average of 74 pitches over the last month and has averaged 46.18 pitches throughout the season per appearance.
He’s allowed lefties to hit a .364 ISO and wOBA of .387 over the last month. The Mariners have Cal Raleigh, Cade Marlowe, Josh Rojas, and J.P. Crawford batting from the left side. That’s enough talent to add some runs.
Give me the Over in this game. I’m with the AI model here.
MLB Pick: Over 9.5 (-160) at Caesars Sportsbook
San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland Athletics
Sunday, August 06, 2023 – 04:07 PM EDT at Oakland Coliseum
Our AI Model believes the Giants should win tonight’s 5.8-3.4 game against the Athletics. With a projected 2.4-run win, the AI Model likes the Giants at -1.5.
The AI Model loves the Giants today. Who wouldn’t? They’re taking on the Oakland Athletics, who have been awful this season.
Alex Cobb has limited walks to 6.1% on the season and has watched teams only hit a .134 ISO against him throughout the year. It’s been a more brutal last 30 days for Cobb, but he’s a veteran pitcher that can get himself out of a rut when needed.
Cobb has earned nearly 57% of ground balls and limited fly balls to 15.4%. He’s also held lefties to a barrel percentage of 5%. Meanwhile, he’ll take on an Oakland lineup that has combined to hit a .278 wOBA against righties over the last 30 days.
On the flip side, it’ll be Luis Medina on the mound for Oakland. He’s allowed his last 34 lefties to hit a .156 ISO and wOBA of .384 over the last month. San Francisco should have more lefties in the lineup, and while they haven’t been consistent offensively, they’ve got a good matchup against Medina and the Oakland bullpen.
I’ll also side with the AI Model and take the Giants -1.5 at the MLB odds board.
MLB Pick: Giants -1.5 (-115) at Caesars Sportsbook
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. San Diego Padres
Sunday, August 06, 2023 – 07:10 PM EDT at PETCO Park
The AI Model suggests that the Padres will earn a 5.2-4.8 victory over the Dodgers in tonight’s game. With San Diego listed as underdogs, this game has some value.
The AI Model doesn’t like the Dodgers tonight, and it makes sense. Lance Lynn will take the hill for Los Angeles. He’s allowed a .340 ISO and wOBA of .415 against his last 105 batters. Lefties and righties have hit Lynn well over the last month.
The Padres have a lineup hitting a .237 ISO and wOBA of .355 against righties over the last 30 days. This projected lineup has also struck out just 16.2% of the time against righties.
Lynn is way better against right-handed hitters. He’s struck out 29.6% of righties, but he will face a balanced lineup from the Padres, which should keep him off-balance. Meanwhile, the Padres will give Rich Hill a start for tonight. San Diego just picked him up at the MLB Trade Deadline. He hasn’t earned high strikeouts, but he’s limited righties to 4.5% of walks.
Teams have hit nearly 47% of grounders, 25% of fly balls, and 20.7% of line drives against Hill over the last month. Those are solid enough numbers.
Hill has been more consistent than Lynn over the last month. While both offenses have been outstanding recently, I’ll stick with the more consistent starter. Give me Rich Hill and the Padres.
