Philadelphia Phillies vs. Seattle Mariners

Friday, August 02, 2024 – 09:40 PM ET at T-Mobile Park

The AI Model projects the Phillies will add a 4-3.5 victory over the Mariners despite being on the road. With Philadelphia currently -105 on the moneyline, the Phillies are the play in this game.

Mariners Strike Out Plenty

The Seattle Mariners have some power in the lineup. But it’s hard to hit for consistent power when the team strikes out more than a fourth of at-bats.

The Mariners projected lineup has struck out 26.1% of the time against righties over the last month. However, every single player has struck out at least 23.4% of the time against righties over the last month.

If the Mariners can’t hit Tyler Phillips, the power numbers won’t matter.

Phillies Having Trouble, Too

The Phillies haven’t struck out as much against righties over the last month. However, the projected lineup has still added a .159 ISO and wOBA of .295 against righties over the last 30 days.

Ultimately, the bottom portion of the lineup hasn’t earned a high wOBA over the last month. Part of the struggle is due to low walk rates for most of the players.

They’ll face Bryan Woo of the Mariners, who has held his last 58 batters to 60% of ground balls, 20% of fly balls, and 13.3% of line drives. However, he’s still allowed a .368 ISO and wOBA of .540 to his last 21 lefties.

That leaves the door open for guys like Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper to play hero.

The Pick

In this projected tight game, look for the Phillies to come out on top with their left-handed power.
