World Wide Technology Championship

November 2 – November 5, 2023 at El Cardonal at Diamante

What Do We Know About This Week’s New Course?

This year, the World Wide Technology Championship has a new host course, the El Cardonal at Diamante.

The designer is none other than Tiger Woods, whose design was inspired by the courses of the West Coast that he grew up playing.

The par 72, 7363 yards track was designed to give the holes multiple strategic options for the golfers, with players being rewarded for executing strong game plans.

Tiger Woods’ ideal behind the course is that the golfers must place their ball well off the tee for the best angles of approach to the oversized Paspalum greens. Despite that ideal, the fairways have wide landing areas at circa 60 yards in width, placed between the sandy arroyos that line El Cardonal.

This week is not one for getting heavily involved but, with a weakish-looking top of the market with maidens Cameron Young and Ludvig Aberg leading the way, a shock result could be in the offing.

Course Correlations to Use

A perfect weather forecast for the week means any course correlations can only be helpful in identifying players who thrive in the agronomy.

Paspalum greens are a regular feature of South American golf, so the Puerto Rico Open and Corales at Puntacana are two with similar conditions. Other Mexican events are also helpful and we have the previous renewals when played in Mayakoba and the Mexico Open at Vidanta, Vallarta to use.

Why Akshay Bhatia Looks Perfect for El Cardonal

At the end of July, Akshay Bhatia won his maiden PGA Tour title at the Barracuda Championship, when he defeated Patrick Rodgers in a sudden death playoff.

Because of the vagaries of the PGA Tour seasons and their cross-overs, since his win, there has been no continuity for the players, with events only once every few weeks, if that.

For most players, the lack of events in recent weeks will have affected their sharpness and practice routines but strangely, here at OddsTrader, we have identified before how the twenty-one-year-old Bhatia plays his best tournaments when returning from a break.

On many of those occasions, those performances have been at tracks of a similar agronomy to this week, especially his first Korn Ferry Tour win, which was in the Bahamas Great Exuma Classic, his first event of 2022.

Rather interestingly, back in the day, Tiger Woods was brilliant off a break, at one point in the early years of his career boasting a strike rate of between 50 and 66%. Well, this week is Woods’ debut as a course designer on the PGA Tour, so it would be perfect symmetry if his fellow Los Angeles native, Akshay Bhatia was to win the event.

Brent Grant Is a Great Long-Shot Pick

Here at Odds Trader, Brent Grant has caught our eye as a lively outsider this week at the World Wide Technology Championship.

The twenty-seven-year-old from Jacksonville looked in far better nick on his recent start at the Shriners Open, where he finished 35th with a strong display off the tee and on the greens.

Grant’s career-best effort on the PGA Tour is an 8th at the Corales Puntacana Championship, which mentioned earlier should correlate well with this week’s conditions.

With large greens and fairways, this week looks like a perfect one for Grant to bomb and gauge his way around the Tiger Woods design, given he ranks 16th for Driving Distance.

We suggest taking Brent Grant in the top 10 market (+2500) and as a lively long-shot selection at the price of (+40000) with Bet365.
