Tuesday’s NHL card has some super matchups taking place, and there are plenty of underdogs on our radar today.

Check out why we are taking two +150 moneyline bets as well as Montreal’s Cole Caufield to bring his shooting gloves tonight.

Picks Summary

  • Red Wings ML (+150)
  • Canadiens ML (+150)
  • Cole Caufield Over 3.5 Shots (-125)

Detroit Red Wings vs. New York Rangers

Tuesday, November 7, 2023 – 07:30 PM ET at Madison Square Garden

Betting Trends

  • Detroit are 6-2 in their last 8 games against an opponent in the Eastern Conference.
  • Detroit are 6-3 in their last 9 games when playing as the underdog.
  • Both teams have produced +2.9 units of profit this season on the moneyline.

Detroit Can Cause Upset in Big Apple

Although Detroit are underdogs and playing on the road, we still believe they can cause an upset here and possibly cash at +150 underdogs in this NHL matchup.

Detroit have been solid this season as they find themselves 4th in the Eastern Conference, while the NY Rangers are equally as impressive as they slot into 2nd place in the Eastern Conference and have been on an impressive 7-1 run, but tonight we are opposing them and hoping they have back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

The Pick

The two big things to look out for here is going to be: is Dylan Larkin playing for the Red Wings (currently questionable) and is Igor Shesterkin going to start in the crease for the Rangers (also questionable)?

No Shesterkin is a good sign, while Larkin being available would be a great bonus as he has scored 17 points this season, being the Red Wings’ top scorer and 4th overall in the NHL.

That said, the Red Wings are much stronger than their odds suggest, and even without Larkin and Shesterkin playing, we still give the Red Wings a chance at these odds.

The Red Wings won 3-2 and cashed as +190 underdogs the last time they visited Madison Square Garden.

NHL Pick: Red Wings ML (+150) at Bet365

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Montreal Canadiens

Tuesday, November 7, 2023 – 07:00 PM ET at Centre Bell

Betting Trends

  • Tampa Bay are 1-5 in their last 6 games on the road.
  • Montreal are 4-2 at home thus far this season compared to 1-2-2 on the road.
  • Tampa Bay are playing the second of back-to-back games.

Tampa Bay Not Unbeatable

We are usually not ones to do much advocating for the Montreal Canadiens these days, but when in the right spot with the right odds, we are prone to getting involved.

Montreal have a winning record at 5-4-2 and have totaled 12 points from 11 games, the Tampa Bay Lightning are 6-4-2 this season and have 14 points from 12 games, the Canadiens can unbelievably tie with the Lightning with a win in regulation tonight and will also still have a game in hand.

So why are the Canadiens +150 to win this game on home ice?

The Pick

These teams are almost level on points, yet the road team is getting all the juice at -140 to cash on the moneyline at the top sportsbooks. The Lightning are very weak right now defensively without their number-one goaltender, and it shows, as they have allowed 42 goals, which is the joint highest in the Eastern Conference.

The Lightning are also on the second night of a back-to-back, having lost 6-5 against the Toronto Maple Leafs last night, and to top it off, Montreal are 4-2 on home ice this season compared to Tampa Bay’s 1-3-2 road record.

Give us the home team as underdogs in this scenario all day long. Yes, the Lightning have a better roster, but Montreal are proving their worth and holding their own thus far on home ice.

NHL Pick: Canadiens ML (+150) at Bet365

Betting Trends

  • Cole Caufield has averaged 4.3 shots per game thus far this season.
  • Caufield has seen his shot total go over 3.5 in 7 of his opening 11 games thus far this year (hit rate of 63%)
  • Caufield averages 5 shots per game on home ice compared to 3.1 when playing on the road.

Cole Caufield (Montreal Canadiens)

We can’t help but go back to this matchup only this time we are targeting Montreal center Cole Caufield to see over 3.5 shots in this matchup at -125 NHL betting odds.

As we stated earlier, the Tampa Bay Lightning are on a second night of a back-to-back and had to travel overnight, Montreal should be able to get at this Lightning defense, having been off for almost four days, and most specifically Cole Caufield can.

The Pick

Caufield is by far the highest shot-taker on this Montreal team, having had 14 more shots than the second-best. He is also ranked as the 4th highest shot taker in the NHL this season, and with a 63% hit rate to the over 3.5 shots and an 83% hit rate to the over when playing on home ice, we believe Caufield should be able to manage 4+ shots tonight.

It will also be the Canadiens’ first game on home ice in three matches, as they were on a three-game road stretch, Caufield and co should be well up for this game back on home ice against former back-to-back Stanley Cup champions.

NHL Pick: Cole Caufield Over 3.5 Shots (-125) at Bet365
